Crime And Violence Of Mexico
Crime and Violence in Mexico as we know it is all too common. The Drugs power and control is often
heard way too many times. Drug traffickers often come from a childhood of poverty. But the battle for
survival among cartels in Mexico, in which thousands of people, mostly in the drug trade or fighting
it, have been killed, has only led drug traffickers to redouble their efforts to get their drugs to market
in the United States. These Drug Traffickers all have one thing in common they all want territory
control and want to be the number one organization. One of the most powerful Drug lords in today s
history is named El Chapo Guzman. He became Mexico s top drug kingpin in 2003. He was

Orchestra Performance Review
Mozart and Part Orchestra Festival Review
The Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, recently hosted Gustavo Dudamel and the
Philharmonic choir for a four day orchestra event, running from 19th 22nd may 2016, to showcase
Mozart s Requiem and Avro part s Miserere. The event was a unique experience that gave me the
chance to sample the work of two of the best known music composers. Both Mozart and Part are
renowned for transparency and sonic beauty in their music which unfolds effortlessly and naturally
and I knew this was going to be a great experience for the audience and performers alike.

The Influence Of The Domino Theory In Vietnam
The U.S. couldn t have one this war because they didn t take the time to gain the intelligence required
to give them the upper hand, research what technology would work or wouldn t work, and create a
strong clear mission for everyone to follow.
The U.S fought in the Vietnam War because of the domino theory. The domino theory is the fear that
if one country fell to the influence of communism then the surrounding countries would soon follow.
President Eisenhower quotes You have a row of dominoes set up, you knock over the first one, and
what will happen to the last one is the certainty that it will go over very quickly . The domino theory,
and communism led the U.S. into the war. The United States real fight was with the Soviets over

They did not get to know the land, language, or the people. Soldiers were sent into places in Vietnam

fighting. They had received all of their knowledge from the French. Although the French hadn t really
bothered to learn any information either. Technology also played a big factor in why the U.S. could
not win this war. They were too focused on using the newest technologies. They thought that airpower
alone was enough to win the war, but they couldn t have been more wrong. They over relied on air
power and thought of winning as dropping the most bombs or killing the most people. Tanks were also

Small Urban Areas Of Comparative Advantage
Small urban areas can do a number of things to increase and diversify export efforts. Increasing the
exports will enhance the ability of the small urban area to pay for its imports. First the small urban
areas should look at other opportunities so they can mitigate the export dependency they have on
target areas such as large urban areas that have economies of scale. They could target investment and
industrial policy to develop potential new areas of comparative advantage. Thing such as technology,
infrastructure development, entrepreneurship, institutional and regulator efforts, and communication
all are essential components in looking for new areas of comparative advantage. In addition, things
like investment in human capital development, and integration into the global market, which provide
more profitable value chains, should also be a focus to address this type of issue as well 1. As income
levels change from area to area or through time, there is also a systematic change that takes place. This
change takes place in the importance of higher and lower order centers. At higher income levels, more
shopping and specialty goods are demanded, and people are willing to travel farther to obtain the
goods they desire. Income, scale, and accessibility changes are all responsible for the progressive
centralization of functions in the higher level centers in the United States and the progressive decline
of the smaller cities. In conclusion when people have more

The Trial Of Galileo And The Catholic Church
In the Trial of Galileo, The Roman Catholic church is the largest christian church in the Western
civilization .The moral aspect concerns salvation. The Catholic Church was directed by the Holy
Scripture by the Church Fathers, which provided the means of eternal salvation: those don t renounce
the Catholic Church of Catholicism place their souls in peril. Protestantism was an enemy Galileo had
encountered but it derives the Catholic Church of converts because it deprives people from the true
ideal of salvation amongst early catholic people. But in some situations got difficult for Galileo to
handle more than one role played. The Galileo case for many anti catholics, is to be proven that church
abhors science, refuse to abandon outdated teachings. The Church was not anti scientific but it
supported scientific endeavors for centuries. The Jesuits were a respected group of astronomers and
scientist in Rome during Galileo s time. Individuals and church officials and from the church, were
many notable scientist who received fundings. During this time period Church funding from many
scientific advances were contributed by clerics. Therefore if Galileo had not been prosecuted with the
political controversy of the Catholic Church, he would have lived a longer life contributing more
towards his theories and inventions as a scientist than his religious obedience.
The Catholic Church teaches the most important that is the one true church founded by Jesus Christ.

The Influence Of The Potsdam Conference
The Potsdam Conference was held at Cecilienhof, the home of Crown Prince Wilhelm Hohenzollern,
in Potsdam, occupied Germany, from 17 July to 2 August 1945. The goals of the conference also
included the establishment of post war order, peace treaty issues, and countering the effects of the war.
In the five months since the Yalta Conference, a number of changes had taken place which would
greatly affect the relationships between the leaders. The Soviet Union was occupying Central and
Eastern Europe and Stalin claimed that it was a legitimate sphere of Soviet influence. Roosevelt had
dismissed warnings of a potential domination by a Stalin dictatorship in Europe, however, his
successor Harry S. Truman became increasingly suspicious of Soviet intentions under Stalin. The
Potsdam Conference marks the first and only time Truman would ever meet Stalin in person.
At the end of the conference it was decided that both Germany and Austria would be divided into four
zones and that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Among the controversial decisions to be reached at Potsdam were those pertaining to Poland. As part
of the Potsdam talks, the US and Britain agreed to recognize the Soviet backed Provisional
Government of National Unity rather than the Polish government in exile which had been based in
London since 1939. In addition, Truman reluctantly agreed to accede to Soviet demands that Poland s
new western border lay along the Oder Neisse Line. The use of these rivers to denote the new border
saw Germany lose nearly a quarter of its pre war territory with most going to Poland and a large part
of East Prussia to the Soviets. Though Bevin argued against the Oder Neisse Line, Truman effectively
traded this territory to gain concessions on the reparations issue. The transfer of this territory led to the
displacement of large numbers of ethnic Germans and remained controversial for

Real Property Tax Assessment
This is the first in a series of articles written to inform the real property taxpayer how to appeal your
property tax assessment. Drawing upon my many years of experience in both the private and public
sector property tax business, I have written this article in general terms that apply to the many states
and counties in the US, and focused it on what everyone needs to know should you want to appeal
your property tax value.
Fair Market Value
All states base their assessed value on fair market value (also referred to as market value ), or a
defined percentage of fair market value (here in GA we are assessed at 40% of the fair market value
estimate). The Appraisal Institute has defined market value as:
The most probably price, as of a specific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2. Sales Comparison Approach...estimates a property s value (or some other characteristic, such as its
depreciation) by reference to comparable sales.
This approach, like the name implies, entails comparing your property to the sale of comparable
properties in your market area. Adjusting for differences (such as numbers of bathrooms) by adding
(or subtracting) the approximate value of the differences to the sale price, you can get an indication of
what your property might sell for.
3. Income Approach...uses capitalization to convert the anticipated benefits of the ownership of
property into an estimate of present value.
This approach is rarely (I m guessing never) used by taxing jurisdictions to appraise single family
residential property. Larger metropolitan counties with a lot of market data use this approach to value
commercial properties. Essentially the income approach takes the potential rental income of your
property, deducts for anticipated operating expenses, and applies a capitalization rate to the left over
net operating income (NOI). The capitalization rate is derived from market data showing what
multiple of NOI investors are paying for similar

The Effects Of Sporting Events On Soccer 2010
The stadium was shaking with the thunderous cheers of fans supporting their countries. The
excitement grew as coaches gave last minute instructions to their players. The kick off of the 1966
World Cup, held in England, in which Germany versed England, was moments away. The whistle
blew and the match was on. The first ninety minutes of the match were an exciting battle and the game
ended in a 0 0 score; on to overtime! According to an article written Zoe Doherty During the final,
with eleven minutes gone in extra time, Alan Ball crossed to George Hurst whose subsequent shot
cannoned off the underside of the goal and down either just on or over the goal line. The goal was
controversially allowed, and its validity is still questioned to this day. (Goal line technology in soccer
2010) Controversy has always played a major role in the officiating of sporting events since the
official s decisions are based upon their judgments and observations. Maybe in 1966 that had to be the
case, but today, thanks to modern technology, that s not so. Rather than relying solely on their personal
observations to determine a call, soccer officials are now being assisted by goal line technology, a tool
to assist them making their official rulings during a game. According to the Fédération Internationale

of soccer, goal line technology is, A technical means of instantly determining

Mass Casualty Incident Essay
Mass casualty incident by definition is any incident, which because of its physical size, the number
and criticality of victims, or its complexity, is likely to overwhelm those local resources which would
typically be available (Mass, 2017). Many actions are taken initially upon the choice to make a
pronouncement to classify a situation mass casualty incident. These consist of initial actions, which
can include assessment of the scene, request for additional resources such as chemical isolation as an
example, scene set up, such as triage area and transport. All of these beginning stages will likely be
performed by a medical officer who will assign roles for personnel to fulfill. As a nurse things to do to
prepare to be part of that team are to understand the triage classifications. This important and can be
difficult to achieve especially in a situation where people who may be badly injured yet classified as
green are calling for help. Doing triage exercises and becoming familiar with the type of injuries that
come from a mass casualty incident, and having the ability to stabilize a patient that may need
intervention to stay alive are ways to prepare in case of a mass casualty event. For a nurse that is not

Is it a fire, a chemical spill, a tornado, a multiple car accident scene? This will define who the hospital

rooms with negative air flow and ICU care are some challenges. This would prompt a need for
communication and transport to hospitals in the region that could help with stabile patients needing
continuing care from a hospital without the needed resources

How Successful Was Elizabethan Foreign Policy Between...
How successful was Elizabethan Foreign Policy between 1558 and 1588 From the amicable friendship
with Spain and traditional rivalry with France and Scotland at the beginning of her reign, Elizabeth
had transformed the state of foreign affairs so that, by 1588, England was friendly with Scotland,
allied with France and warring with Spain. Facing these three threats at different points in time and
having to keep an eye on the Spanish Netherlands a gateway to England for any invading nations
along with the varying opinions of her Privy Councillors, the aims of Elizabethan foreign policy
constantly varied, but one thing was clear: At all costs, Elizabeth wanted to avoid war with any major
power thus her policy was limited and defensive for the majority of the time period. But how
successful was Elizabethan foreign policy? Through the different threats and aims, the success of her
policy fluctuated thus this essay will argue Elizabeth was not mostly successful in ... Show more

There was a struggle for power between the Catholics and Protestants, and it was only with Elizabeth
s intervention that the Lords of the Congregation managed to retain their power, but even this was a
close call. This can be seen as a failure for Elizabeth as she was wholly against rebellion against the
rightful monarch, thus her intervention against Mary s seat of power in Scotland went against
Elizabeth s own beliefs. Further failure can be seen in 1579 80 when Esme Stuart became a favourite
of James VI in the Scottish court. Likely an agent of the Guise, Esme manipulated James VI and
overthrew Morton in an attempt to revive the Auld Alliance between Scotland and France, planning an
invasion of England with the English Catholics. This shows how, in Scotland, Elizabethan foreign
policy was successful in all but a few

SCAP, viewed educational reform as another way to decentralize Japan (McClain 548). In the fall of
1946 SCAP placed a full report before a Japanese commission (McClain 548). As result, jurisdiction
over the school system shifted from the Ministry of Education to elected prefectural school boards.
These school board were given the power to select teachers, decide texts, and set the curriculum

school system (McClain 549). The American school system included six years of elementary school,
three years of junior high school, three years of high school, and four year colleges (McClain 549).
Alongside the structural alterations, SCAP officials addressed the educational philosophy.
Subsequently, in 1947 the Japanese government introduced the Fundamental Law of Education, which
declared, that the primary goal of the educational system was to esteem individual dignity and
endeavor to bring up people who love truth and peace (McClain 549). As SCAP was rebuilding the

Trent is wearing a cap with jeans and a sleeveless shirt, which is covered in sweat, even without
knowing his occupation we can see that he is in a lower class to the people in the village. He has a
southern American accent, which is generally associated with working class people.
The camera work and editing effectively give us a view of how the filmmakers want us to see the
characters and the neighbourhood. The first set we see is a crane on the small neighbourhood to
introduce us to the houses, after this we are introduced to the main characters and their families. There
is a low angle shot of Devon, with her family beside her, to emphasise her middle class background,
when she is in her Young Rangers uniform she is viewed form the feet upwards. Whereas when we

better insight to where they live and their social status.

This takes courage: Courage to step outside of societal norms. Courage to accept not only ourselves,
but to accept others, just as they are. Courage to learn the difference between belonging and fitting in.
Courage to discern between real fear that keeps you alive, and fear that keeps you from living.
Here are five ways to begin practicing ahimsa.
1. Go Outside Your Comfort Zone.
Begin by doing one thing daily that you normally wouldn t do. If you re feeling brave, make that one
thing that scares you.
2. Listen to Your Body.
Create balance by finding guidance from messages of your body. Practice yoga or find movement
through a connection to your breath and listen.
3. Check In With Yourself.
Notice what you might be avoiding in your own life because you are so interested in others lives. Are
you a worrier? A fixer? Discern the difference between help and support.
4. Pretend You Are Complete.
There is no need to expect anything from yourself, or to criticize, judge, or change anything about

containing the step because it took me quite some time to interpret what it meant. This step states:
Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity. My interpretation was
that an alcoholic had to believe that a power such as God or another deity could cleanse his or her

Who Is Responsible For The Inca s Downfall

Their king had plenty of work to do. He controlled politics, society, food stores, and commander in

The Social Needs For Students Intellectual Development...
Introduction: Background Generally speaking, universities place emphasis on students intellectual
development more than their personal growth. Nevertheless, many students experience college life
stressful. College students often find themselves feeling isolated as they begin their lives on a
university campus (Corey, Corey, Corey, 2014). Therefore, their social needs in addition to their
academic needs must be addressed (see Corey, et al., 2014; Ramsay, Jones, Barker, 2007).
Developmentally, college age individuals transition from adolescence to young adulthood (Gardiner
Kosmitzki, 2010). One of developmental theorists, Erik Erikson (in Lerner, 2002) postulated that
young adults developmental task is negotiating their identity within the intimate relationship.
Furthermore, Côté (2006) stressed that reflecting and exploring their lives in adolescence to emerging
adulthood helps them obtain what he called identity capital, which refers to a repertoire of personal
resources (Côté, 2006, p. 91). It includes both tangible and intangible resources and attributes (Côté,
2006). Lack of engagement or passivity of adolescents and emerging adults result in diffusion (
apathetic noncommitment (Côté, 2006, p. 104). Gleaning from these theorists observations, college
students face developmental tasks, which carry them forward to adulthood. Therefore, their social
needs in addition to their academic needs must be addressed (see Corey, et al., 2014). The rate of

a bridge to the 18th century
Building a Bridge to the Eighteenth
Neil Postman identifies himself as a neo Luddite .
What bothers Postman most is the fact that the great innovators of this time have no frame of
reference other than their own experience, and that experience is only that of the 20th century.
Advocates of trends such as information superhighways and economic globalization appear to know
nothing of history, philosophy and culture; they live digitally in the hollow present.
Postman assesses different ideas in each chapter:
Chaper One: A Bridge to the Eighteenth Century

He examines the perspectives which our language forces us to view situations from and alerts the
reader that our language creates an invisible bias in our thinking.
Chapter Five: Information
Information is a relatively modern noun, and
Postman argues that if one searches hundreds of eighteenth century indexes for the term he will not
find a listing for it, even though much information and knowledge was gained during the
enlightenment.
Postman warns against viewing information as a secular entity that is not involved in a larger context
of wisdom, knowledge, and purpose.
Chapter Six: Narratives
Postman states that the narratives of the 20th and
21st centuries should not cause us to view prior narratives and philosophies in a derogatory or
condescending light. Quoting Niels Bohr, Postman writes, The opposite of a correct statement is an
incorrect statement. The opposite of a profound truth is another profound truth. Postman says that we
should consider the values of other cultures and eras vision of Truth to make true progress and attain
true wisdom.

Postman stresses the importance of a childhood, a concept that Postman thinks is disappearing from
our culture. Chapter Eight:

Bernal Del Castillo View Of Doña Marina
Bernal Diaz del Castillo view of Doña Marina was a loyal, passionate and forgiving person. Doña
Marina story talks about how she was given away by her parents to some Indians and was claimed
dead by her parents. The reason for all this trouble was because her mom and stepdad preferred her
stepbrother and her parents wanted him to be inherent in their fortune. Without knowing they gave
Doña Marina better life because those Indians gave her to Cortez who took care of her and made an
important woman. She met her husband Juan Jaramillo during an expedition with Cortez. The reason I
believe that Bernal sees Doña as loyal is that Doña was offered a very high position in Spain because
she was the one that translated new Spain to Mexico language,

Youtube Case Analysis
Fun, creative, motivational, and humorous, private and homemade videos were where YouTube really
shined during the previous decade. Anyone with a computer, camera, and video editing software had
an outlet to show their creative works for fun or presentation, with little restriction besides time and
data limits, or certain language and content, to keep the creative environment friendly and legal. The
addition of advertisement came along with channels becoming more and more popular, acquiring large
followings, yet did not present any more restrictions to the video sharing site. However, in the recent

Endangered Species Essay
Richard Nixon once said, Nothing is more priceless and worthy of preservation than the rich array of
animal life with which our country has been blessed. The world is full of a wide variety of animal and
plants. On the other hand, some of that variety is endangered. The definition of an endangered species
is a species that is at a critical risk of extinction. Not only can different species be endangered, they
can also be categorized into six major categories which are; vulnerable, endangered, critically
endangered, and extinct in the wild. The IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) is
one of the main resources for the categorization of these species. The Genus name is Macaca silenus
and it is a part of the endangered species category. This lion tailed macaque is endangered because of
deforestation of their habitat. It is estimated that there are less than one thousand individuals
remaining in their habitats in India. During the last few decades there has been a dramatic decrease.
This species has declined due to habitat fragmentation (Singh). This form of deforestation is caused
because of the major increase in agriculture in the Indian mountains. While deforestation is the leading
cause in their endangered status, it is not the only reason. Over the years there has been an increase in
shelters and safe zones for this species, but will their population continue to decrease? lion tailed
macaque is also called the Wanderoo, which is the common name, is a primate that spends most of
their lifespan in the trees of the Western Ghats mountain range in three southern states in India. Which
are, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. This species can weigh up to twenty two pounds and can
reach the length of twenty four inches long when in adulthood (IUCN). They have a dark black slim
body with a lighter area with a grey silvery fur that hangs down surrounding the face. They receive the
name the lion tailed macaque because of their tail, which is long tuft and slender. The lion tailed
macaque is considered the most endangered and smallest group of the species the macaque monkey.
Monkeys of this species type only live in small family groups of three to four which usually are
composed of a female, her

Analysis Of Money In The Great Gatsby
Happiness of Money
(Literary analysis on The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald) Gold diggers are commonly known as
women that only go after a guy because of the money that he has. The said women doesn t even need
to love the man just to have the money is enough to keep her around on him. Often times there is a
man that really does like this lady, but because he doesn t have money he never gets with her. What if
this man without the money decide he would do anything to get money to impress the girl. The Great
Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald tells a story of a man name Gatsby that left his love of his life to go and

An online article by Teachout states, such stories embody the rags to riches vision of worldly success
that has come to be known as the American Dream . American dream is what many stand for. The true
way he got the money was through drug dealing and the bad side of things, the money was not earn
honestly. Clearly, the American dream to become someone from very little is in play in this message.
Another message for The Great Gatsby is challenging the idea of money makes you happy. Having a
lot of money means you can buy anything such as , big house, new vehicles, etc. Anything new that
comes out can easily be bought. Gatsby reached this point and this is why he spends lots of money on
parties because he had so much money it doesn t matter. But is Gatsby really happy? In the novel it
says, Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy would be just across the bay (Page78). Even with all his
money Gatsby was still not happy because he didn t have what he really wants which was Daisy. The
reason he even got all this money was in hopes to get Daisy to see all his money and make her come
back to him. This didn t go as planned because Daisy husband Tom would not let her go anywhere
without him. So Gatsby was left alone with all that money but no love. In this novel money doesn t
equal happiness, but love was truly the point of happiness. In another online article it says, None of
these are bad but certainly distracting at

The Relevance Of The Nascaturus Fiction
The purpose of this essay is to discuss the rule and law of the nasciturus fiction, with reference to legal
subjectivity. It aims to investigate the relevance of the nascaturus fiction within South African law, and
with reference to cited cases, demonstrate the reality of this law within current times.
Many meaning exist for the term birth within South African law. South African law is based on
Roman Dutch law, and analysing the structure of Roman Dutch law may aid in the interpretation of
the nasciturus fiction within South African law.
Birth registration was not a lawfully necessary action in ancient Rome, but was rather used to
determine proof of birth and age [1]. No damages in terms of law were suffered by people who did not
register children at birth, and it did not lead to any disadvantages within law [2]. However, the use of
such birth registration proved fruitless as it did not effectively prove a person s age.
The term legal subjectivity arises, and this is questionable in terms of the nasciturus fiction. Legal
subjectivity, in terms of law, begins at birth, provided that the birth is successful and the baby born.
Common law requirements state: The body of the nasciturus or foetus must be separated from the
body of the mother; it is not required that the umbilical cord be cut; the child must live after being
born, even for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It should be noted that the nasciturus fiction and the nasciturus rule differ. The nasciturus rule allows
that if a situation arises where a foetus would have benefited if it was born, the rights that would be
given to the born child are conferred to the foetus. This results in the foetus becoming a legal person.
The foetus subsequently has legal capacity and subjectivity from the date upon which conception is
placed. It is not necessary for the child to be born alive in the case of the nasciturus

Jessica Kuang 11CH3
Question 1: (4 marks)
Construct a timeline to summarise the development of the Periodic Table and the major contributions
made by notable scientists (up to G Seaborg) Question 2: (8 marks)
(a) The elements lithium, sodium and potassium formed one of the original triads used to show that
elements could be grouped . What scientific evidence did scientists have to justify this grouping of
elements?
Johann Dobereiner, a German chemist, suggested the grouping of elements with similar properties into
clusters of three triads. He discovered that when arranged in ascending atomic mass, in the case of
lithium, sodium and potassium, sodium s atomic mass was approximately the arithmetic mean of
lithium and potassium. There was also a correlation between the atomic numbers, (Li 3, Sodium 11,
Potassium 19) which showed the mean of the lowest and highest atomic numbers equalled the atomic
number of the middle element.
(b) Identify two other triads which were identified during the early construction of the Periodic Table.
The other two triads are sulfur, selenium and tellurium and chlorine, bromine and iodine.
(c) In 1864, John Newlands observed that the properties of the known elements varied periodically
with their atomic masses. He saw a pattern which reminded him of the musical scale and published his
findings as the law of octaves

This concept of the teen drama is not a foreign one, and there is something about teens with insane,

It all started in 1990, when the first show to ever be classified as a teen drama was put into our hearts

Have anyone ever wondered why literacy rates are low? Technology is a very good thing, but people
should measure their usage. All electronic devices have apps where people can communicate and even

literacy rates are dropping. People need to reduce the amount of texting because some people text and

Another term for texting would be considered sms (source B). Sms stands for short term message. Tm

The Life Of Reason By George Santayana
Here s an experiment for you. Ask the next 10 people you meet about what comes to mind when they
think of the word disaster. I did, and you ll probably get answers similar to the ones that I received:
war, hurricane, earthquake, etc. Not a single person got anywhere close to housing crisis, and unless
you work at a mortgage lender or economic think tank, you re probably not going to get that answer
either. This is despite the fact that anybody on the receiving end of that question has probably not
experienced a severe earthquake or hurricane, yet has felt the impact of the 2008 housing bubble
simply by being a participant in the economy.
In The Life of Reason, novelist George Santayana wrote the now famous phrase, those who cannot
remember the past are condemned to repeat it. That holds true for housing crises, specifically the one
in 2008. Less than a decade after the world economy nearly collapsed, the vast majority of us still don
t understand what happened or why it happened. Some of us do know, but choose not to care. Both are
equally dangerous.
Housing crises are avoidable. They are borne out of lapses in judgment from three main groups:
lenders that do not make responsible lending decisions, buyers that do not make responsible buying
decisions, and governments that do not make responsible legislation to govern either of the former
parties. Each of them needs to be addressed in order to avoid repeating a sordid, destructive past.

Tax Reform Act 1986
America s first income tax was executed as a way to help finance the overwhelming costs of the Civil
War. Even though the income tax in 1862 was commonly a personal income tax, it added a tax on
corporations, including withholding and taxing certain corporate interest and dividends but pursued to
avoid double taxation. An 1885 pamphlet wrote [double corporate taxation] violate[s] the principles at
the foundation of all systems of taxation (Bloomfield 2011 p. 179). This attempt to raise money was

The United States has the highest corporate tax rate of the 34 developed, free market nations that
make up the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The marginal
corporate tax rate in the United States is 35% at the federal level... according to the 2013 OECD Tax
Database. The global average is much lower, at 25% (Fontinelle, 2014). Even though there are ways
for businesses to decrease or even avoid these payments, this high figure deters foreign investors from
considering the United States for business and sends them looking in more favorable countries like
Canada or Ireland. Adding to pushing away potential foreign investors, U.S. firms flee to those tax
favorable places to avoid it. When these companies move their headquarters or create foreign
subsidiaries, jobs and profits move overseas (Fontinelle,

I strongly believe that children should come with an instruction manual in different languages, after
all, even the most complicated computer system or VCR has a manual in three to four languages, or
more. Granted, sometimes we can t understand the instructions, but we have them and sometimes even
a toll free help line. Now some people would say their own parent would be the help line but not
always does that work out. Our own parents advice can be, shall I say, out dated; for example, many
would suggest to us new parents to tell our child, what we say goes, or stop that crying or I ll give you
something to cry about, or do it because I m the parent and I said so, not the desired tone for positive

Frankly, the whole exchange of dialogue is exhausting and I have given in more times than I d like to.
I m sure that the lack of a Parenting Manual is not the reason for school uniform codes, but in my
household uniforms certainly would make mornings easier. School uniforms have a multitude of
rewards and benefits for both the parent and child and should be implemented in all elementary
schools. The rewards and benefits far outweigh any negative connotations that opposing adults have.
These benefits include: reduced headache and stress in the morning, reduced expense of clothing,
increased focus on academics in the classroom, increased building of team spirit among classmates,
and the, for lack of a better word, non discrimination on the popularity poll. I ll begin with exploring
the morning ritual and the reward a uniform has on this process. Critics opposed to uniforms would
say the solution to the miserable morning is to lay the clothes out at night, hence avoiding such
conflicts. This idea sounds good at the outset; however, it just creates conflicts at bedtime so I haven t
seen the advantages or solution to this nighttime ritual. On the other hand, the uniform idea poses
some great alternatives; first the choices are limited, usually to a few shirts, sweaters, or sweatshirts,
and one or two pairs of pants or shorts, and

René Descartes was a famous French mathematician, scientist, and philosopher. He was arguably
known as the Father of Modern Philosophy. Descartes published many works of mathematics and
philosophy throughout his life. In one of his most important works, Meditations on First Philosophy,
he added a number of arguments for and against skepticism. Skepticism is the doubt about the truth of
something and that absolute knowledge is not possible. Like past famous philosophers before him,
Plato and Parmenides, Descartes believed that evidence from the senses was inadequate to prove the
kind of justification required for a claim of knowledge.
In the first of Rene Descartes Meditations, he provided arguments for the skeptical position. He ...

The method of hyperbolical doubt, also known as methodic doubt, is a methodical process of being
skeptical about the truth of one s belief. According to the article Descartes Epistemology, Hyperbolical
Doubt is perceived to mean that one applies doubt to all candidates of knowledge. However, Descartes
sees hyperbolical doubt as this: when one decides to doubt their knowledge, one must apply their
doubt to all candidates collectively and start at the foundation. As the phrase goes, one bad apple can
spoil a bunch, one false piece of knowledge can cause an entire belief to collapse. René Descartes
describes three skeptical arguments in Meditation I. The first argument is about how one cannot rely
solely on senses for knowledge because senses can be deceiving. One often makes decisions and
judgments based on what one sees, hears, feels, smells, and so forth; therefore, when one experiences
some form of sensory illusion, their judgment is impaired and the information can possibly be false.
For example, a person can be driving on a highway on a scorching hot summer day and be absolutely
certain that he or she sees a puddle of water on the road ahead. However, the closer they get to the
puddle of water, they quickly realize that it was an illusion of the sun. Their eyes deceived them and
the knowledge which they

New Zealand s Energy Supply
Dear Prime Minister,
I believe that New Zealand s energy supply is secure for the future. From my research, I have found
that from 1974 to 2009 the electricity demand has more than doubled in size. Currently, most of New
Zealand s energy is generated from renewable sources which mean that it can be used by future
generations to come; we do not need to be concerned that they will cease to exist.
However, New Zealand has been named as one of the least energy efficient countries in the world and
therefore, I propose implementing strategies in order to make New Zealand more energy efficient and
this will mean that less energy is wasted which will benefit New Zealand s energy supply. I propose
more power stations in North Island as that would reduced line loss as most customers are in North
Island so less energy is lost in transmission. Although, 75% of all energy production is already
renewable, I propose for at least 90% of New Zealand s energy to be renewable in the future and this
will minimise the effects of fossil fuel generation such as global warming and air pollution. Because
of this, I think that the amount of wind power should be increased; we should not build nuclear power
plants because uranium waste is a hazard to the environment and fossil fuel electricity use should
decrease because it will run out.
Electricity is produced in New Zealand predominately through hydropower, geothermal power and
wind energy which are renewable energy sources. There are numerous

How Does Alba Present Ideas About Life And Death
In the plays Waiting for Godot and The House of Bernarda Alba, life and death are significant
concepts. Life is meaningless in Godot as they merely wait until death, whilst Bernarda Alba depicts
futility of life without passion, love or freedom. The House of Bernarda Alba, through Adela s
rebellious spirit signifies living a life that is passionate, while in Waiting for Godot Beckett seems to
imply that life is meaningless. Whilst Waiting for Godot focuses more on the metaphorical aspect of
death, The House of Bernarda Alba takes on the literal death through Adela s suicide. As playwrights,
Lorca and Beckett convey their views on life and death through their works. Beckett portrays a
cyclical, boring existence in Waiting for Godot, whilst ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, Estragon throws away his boots. The act of throwing away his boots is an act of giving
up, reiterating futility of life. This dismal view of life contrasts significantly with Lorca s passionate
view on life, as expressed through his portrayal of Adela as a vivacious, hopeful young woman. When
mother was in mourning, Adela gave her a round fan with green and red colors (Lorca 164). The color
green and red signifies vitality and courage. In Hispanic Culture, green is symbolized as hope. When
everyone s wearing black, she chooses to wear her green dress and go walking in the streets (Lorca
173). Mainly through the colors she wears, characterizes her as a very passionate person. While others
stays at home and sew, Adela walks in the streets . Lorca views life as a precious gift that possesses
outstanding variety and possibility. In contrast, Beckett characterizes life as meaningless. Time
shouldn t be labeled. One day a person went dumb... went blind... go deaf...were born...shall die, the
same day, the same second (Beckett 103). The repetition of diction choice the same is used to discard
differences between day and second . It is pointless to label time because our lives are cyclical and at
end, everything will die. This is a big contrast to Adela s life, which its events are full of importance.

The Problem of Poverty in Famine, Affluence, and Morality...
Peter Singer is often regarded as one of the most productive and influential philosophers of modern
times. He is well known for his discussions of the acute social, economic, and political issues,
including poverty and famines. In his Famine, Affluence, and Morality , Singer (1972) discusses the
problem of poverty and hunger, as well as the way this problem is treated in the developed world.
Singer believes that charity is inseparable from morality, and no distinction can be drawn between
charity and duty. The philosopher offers possible objections to his proposition and relevant arguments
to justify his viewpoint. The modern world does not support Singer s view, treating charity as a
voluntary activity, an act of generosity that needs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Singer (1972) is convinced that affluent societies should give away within the limits that do not slow
down their economic and social growth. Here, the concept of marginal utility comes into play.
According to Singer (1972), marginal utility is the level, at which, by giving more, I would cause as
much suffering to myself or my dependents as I would relieve by my gift (p. 241). In other words, it is
a fragile boundary between being a moral person and a person, who makes his dependents suffer for
the sake of saving some distant communities from poverty. Marginal utility is a measure of balance,
which implies that bad things are prevented without causing other bad things to happen. Singer (1972)
does not say that affluent societies should limit themselves to marginal utility, but they should avoid
causing something significantly bad to their families. Certainly, the world presented by Singer (1972)
differs considerably from the real order of things. In the real world, charity is not considered as a
moral duty. Rather, it is a voluntary act of generosity, which is subject to public approval and praise.
This position favors many society members, who can use charity as an instrument of manipulation to
achieve their own purposes. Meanwhile, a consensus is emerging that charity is a negative
phenomenon, which does not allow changing the situation from within. According to BBC (n.d.),
charity deals with the symptoms, rather than causes, of poverty and famines. It

  • 22. The Social Needs For Students Intellectual Development... Introduction: Background Generally speaking, universities place emphasis on students intellectual development more than their personal growth. Nevertheless, many students experience college life stressful. College students often find themselves feeling isolated as they begin their lives on a university campus (Corey, Corey, Corey, 2014). Therefore, their social needs in addition to their academic needs must be addressed (see Corey, et al., 2014; Ramsay, Jones, Barker, 2007). Developmentally, college age individuals transition from adolescence to young adulthood (Gardiner Kosmitzki, 2010). One of developmental theorists, Erik Erikson (in Lerner, 2002) postulated that young adults developmental task is negotiating their identity within the intimate relationship. Furthermore, Côté (2006) stressed that reflecting and exploring their lives in adolescence to emerging adulthood helps them obtain what he called identity capital, which refers to a repertoire of personal resources (Côté, 2006, p. 91). It includes both tangible and intangible resources and attributes (Côté, 2006). Lack of engagement or passivity of adolescents and emerging adults result in diffusion ( apathetic noncommitment (Côté, 2006, p. 104). Gleaning from these theorists observations, college students face developmental tasks, which carry them forward to adulthood. Therefore, their social needs in addition to their academic needs must be addressed (see Corey, et al., 2014). The rate of international ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What bothers Postman most is the fact that the great innovators of this time have no frame of reference other than their own experience, and that experience is only that of the 20th century. Advocates of trends such as information superhighways and economic globalization appear to know nothing of history, philosophy and culture; they live digitally in the hollow present. Postman warns against viewing information as a secular entity that is not involved in a larger context of wisdom, knowledge, and purpose. Chapter Six: Narratives Postman states that the narratives of the 20th and 21st centuries should not cause us to view prior narratives and philosophies in a derogatory or condescending light. The world is full of a wide variety of animal and plants. On the other hand, some of that variety is endangered. The definition of an endangered species is a species that is at a critical risk of extinction. Not only can different species be endangered, they can also be categorized into six major categories which are; vulnerable, endangered, critically endangered, and extinct in the wild. • 30. The Relevance Of The Nascaturus Fiction The purpose of this essay is to discuss the rule and law of the nasciturus fiction, with reference to legal subjectivity. It aims to investigate the relevance of the nascaturus fiction within South African law, and with reference to cited cases, demonstrate the reality of this law within current times. Many meaning exist for the term birth within South African law. South African law is based on Roman Dutch law, and analysing the structure of Roman Dutch law may aid in the interpretation of the nasciturus fiction within South African law. Birth registration was not a lawfully necessary action in ancient Rome, but was rather used to determine proof of birth and age [1]. No damages in terms of law were suffered by people who did not register children at birth, and it did not lead to any disadvantages within law [2]. However, the use of such birth registration proved fruitless as it did not effectively prove a person s age. The term legal subjectivity arises, and this is questionable in terms of the nasciturus fiction. Legal subjectivity, in terms of law, begins at birth, provided that the birth is successful and the baby born. Common law requirements state: The body of the nasciturus or foetus must be separated from the body of the mother; it is not required that the umbilical cord be cut; the child must live after being born, even for ... What scientific evidence did scientists have to justify this grouping of elements? Johann Dobereiner, a German chemist, suggested the grouping of elements with similar properties into clusters of three triads. He discovered that when arranged in ascending atomic mass, in the case of lithium, sodium and potassium, sodium s atomic mass was approximately the arithmetic mean of lithium and potassium. There was also a correlation between the atomic numbers, (Li 3, Sodium 11, Potassium 19) which showed the mean of the lowest and highest atomic numbers equalled the atomic number of the middle element. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Frankly, the whole exchange of dialogue is exhausting and I have given in more times than I d like to. I m sure that the lack of a Parenting Manual is not the reason for school uniform codes, but in my household uniforms certainly would make mornings easier. School uniforms have a multitude of rewards and benefits for both the parent and child and should be implemented in all elementary schools. The rewards and benefits far outweigh any negative connotations that opposing adults have. These benefits include: reduced headache and stress in the morning, reduced expense of clothing, increased focus on academics in the classroom, increased building of team spirit among classmates, and the, for lack of a better word, non discrimination on the popularity poll. I ll begin with exploring the morning ritual and the reward a uniform has on this process. Critics opposed to uniforms would say the solution to the miserable morning is to lay the clothes out at night, hence avoiding such conflicts. This idea sounds good at the outset; however, it just creates conflicts at bedtime so I haven t seen the advantages or solution to this nighttime ritual. On the other hand, the uniform idea poses some great alternatives; first the choices are limited, usually to a few shirts, sweaters, or sweatshirts, and one or two pairs of pants or shorts, and ... • 41. On My Way René Descartes was a famous French mathematician, scientist, and philosopher. He was arguably known as the Father of Modern Philosophy. Descartes published many works of mathematics and philosophy throughout his life. In one of his most important works, Meditations on First Philosophy, he added a number of arguments for and against skepticism. Skepticism is the doubt about the truth of something and that absolute knowledge is not possible. Like past famous philosophers before him, Plato and Parmenides, Descartes believed that evidence from the senses was inadequate to prove the kind of justification required for a claim of knowledge. In the first of Rene Descartes Meditations, he provided arguments for the skeptical position. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The method of hyperbolical doubt, also known as methodic doubt, is a methodical process of being skeptical about the truth of one s belief. According to the article Descartes Epistemology, Hyperbolical Doubt is perceived to mean that one applies doubt to all candidates of knowledge. However, Descartes sees hyperbolical doubt as this: when one decides to doubt their knowledge, one must apply their doubt to all candidates collectively and start at the foundation. As the phrase goes, one bad apple can spoil a bunch, one false piece of knowledge can cause an entire belief to collapse. René Descartes describes three skeptical arguments in Meditation I. The first argument is about how one cannot rely solely on senses for knowledge because senses can be deceiving. One often makes decisions and judgments based on what one sees, hears, feels, smells, and so forth; therefore, when one experiences some form of sensory illusion, their judgment is impaired and the information can possibly be false. For example, a person can be driving on a highway on a scorching hot summer day and be absolutely certain that he or she sees a puddle of water on the road ahead. However, the closer they get to the puddle of water, they quickly realize that it was an illusion of the sun. Their eyes deceived them and the knowledge which they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. New Zealand s Energy Supply Dear Prime Minister, I believe that New Zealand s energy supply is secure for the future. From my research, I have found that from 1974 to 2009 the electricity demand has more than doubled in size. Currently, most of New Zealand s energy is generated from renewable sources which mean that it can be used by future generations to come; we do not need to be concerned that they will cease to exist. However, New Zealand has been named as one of the least energy efficient countries in the world and therefore, I propose implementing strategies in order to make New Zealand more energy efficient and this will mean that less energy is wasted which will benefit New Zealand s energy supply. I propose more power stations in North Island as that would reduced line loss as most customers are in North Island so less energy is lost in transmission. Although, 75% of all energy production is already renewable, I propose for at least 90% of New Zealand s energy to be renewable in the future and this will minimise the effects of fossil fuel generation such as global warming and air pollution. Because of this, I think that the amount of wind power should be increased; we should not build nuclear power plants because uranium waste is a hazard to the environment and fossil fuel electricity use should decrease because it will run out. Electricity is produced in New Zealand predominately through hydropower, geothermal power and wind energy which are renewable energy sources. There are numerous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. How Does Alba Present Ideas About Life And Death In the plays Waiting for Godot and The House of Bernarda Alba, life and death are significant concepts. Life is meaningless in Godot as they merely wait until death, whilst Bernarda Alba depicts futility of life without passion, love or freedom. The House of Bernarda Alba, through Adela s rebellious spirit signifies living a life that is passionate, while in Waiting for Godot Beckett seems to imply that life is meaningless. Whilst Waiting for Godot focuses more on the metaphorical aspect of death, The House of Bernarda Alba takes on the literal death through Adela s suicide. As playwrights, Lorca and Beckett convey their views on life and death through their works. Beckett portrays a cyclical, boring existence in Waiting for Godot, whilst ... This dismal view of life contrasts significantly with Lorca s passionate view on life, as expressed through his portrayal of Adela as a vivacious, hopeful young woman. When mother was in mourning, Adela gave her a round fan with green and red colors (Lorca 164). The color green and red signifies vitality and courage. In Hispanic Culture, green is symbolized as hope. When everyone s wearing black, she chooses to wear her green dress and go walking in the streets (Lorca 173). Mainly through the colors she wears, characterizes her as a very passionate person. While others stays at home and sew, Adela walks in the streets . Lorca views life as a precious gift that possesses outstanding variety and possibility. In contrast, Beckett characterizes life as meaningless. Time shouldn t be labeled. One day a person went dumb... went blind... go deaf...were born...shall die, the same day, the same second (Beckett 103). The repetition of diction choice the same is used to discard differences between day and second . It is pointless to label time because our lives are cyclical and at end, everything will die. This is a big contrast to Adela s life, which its events are full of importance. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Problem of Poverty in Famine, Affluence, and Morality... Peter Singer is often regarded as one of the most productive and influential philosophers of modern times. He is well known for his discussions of the acute social, economic, and political issues, including poverty and famines. In his Famine, Affluence, and Morality , Singer (1972) discusses the problem of poverty and hunger, as well as the way this problem is treated in the developed world. Singer believes that charity is inseparable from morality, and no distinction can be drawn between charity and duty. The philosopher offers possible objections to his proposition and relevant arguments to justify his viewpoint. The modern world does not support Singer s view, treating charity as a voluntary activity, an act of generosity that needs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Singer (1972) is convinced that affluent societies should give away within the limits that do not slow down their economic and social growth. Here, the concept of marginal utility comes into play. According to Singer (1972), marginal utility is the level, at which, by giving more, I would cause as much suffering to myself or my dependents as I would relieve by my gift (p. 241). In other words, it is a fragile boundary between being a moral person and a person, who makes his dependents suffer for the sake of saving some distant communities from poverty. Marginal utility is a measure of balance, which implies that bad things are prevented without causing other bad things to happen. Singer (1972) does not say that affluent societies should limit themselves to marginal utility, but they should avoid causing something significantly bad to their families. Certainly, the world presented by Singer (1972) differs considerably from the real order of things. In the real world, charity is not considered as a moral duty. Rather, it is a voluntary act of generosity, which is subject to public approval and praise. This position favors many society members, who can use charity as an instrument of manipulation to achieve their own purposes. Meanwhile, a consensus is emerging that charity is a negative phenomenon, which does not allow changing the situation from within. According to BBC (n.d.), charity deals with the symptoms, rather than causes, of poverty and famines. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
