1) What perceptions of others are reflected attending Miss Columbia s School House (Document 1)?
How does Aguinaldo s criticism of America s policies towards the Philippines (Document 2) echo the
1894 political cartoon? What do these two documents suggest about the way America perceived
conquered peoples and the likelihood that they would ever be fit for American citizenship and its
liberties?
There is a very different perception of the others as presented by the issue in the Miss Columbia
School. Others are seen as the no Americans and particularly the non whites who are seen to be
inferior and cannot be compared to the American citizens. The male figure that is seen to ... Show

It can also be said to be a state of lawlessness. The only means of management is through the use of
force.
The Americans saw conquered people as slaves and that they were inferior. The manner and nature of
racism shows clearly that they did not believe that the conquered individuals can manage themselves.
They were also sure that they could never at any time fit in the shoes of the Native Americans who
were very superior to them. In other words, all the conquered people were slaves and servants.
2) What relationship does President Eisenhower draw between events in the modern Civil Rights
Movement and the goals of the United States in waging the Cold War (Document 3)? How does the
Alcatraz Proclamation (Document 4) and the The Soiling of Old Glory photograph (Document 5)
reflect the increasing radicalization of the Civil Rights Movement by the 1970s as well as the violent
responses it could produce within Anglo American communities? Based upon Eisenhower s speech,
how do you believe he would respond to Documents 4 and 5 in the context of the Cold War?
The president believe that the right movements do not have their say in many issues. He believes that
the rule of the supreme courts should be and must be implemented using all the mechanisms that are
in place. In reference to the case that had happened at the little rock and the attention that it had
received over issues of racism, the common thing that is drawn is that in both, the

My Neighborhood Exploration Is On The Island Of Manhattan...
My neighborhood exploration is on the island of Manhattan s Chinatown. Before I begin noting my
description of Chinatown, I must inform the reader of my existing attachments, sentiments, and
personal connection with the neighborhood. I have been visiting this particular neighborhood for a
rather large portion of my life. With my grandparents having lived in the Lower East Side for the
formative years of my childhood, visiting Chinatown is something my brothers and I grew up doing
for family outings and restaurant visits. For the past year, I have worked at the Museum of Chinese in
America located on 215 Centre Street and therefore have regular interaction with the people who live
and work in the neighborhood, as I am one of them. Although I live in the Bronx, like in most New
York City neighborhoods, there exist many dimensions and areas that have their own unique and
interesting histories that may be hidden to New York City residents and tourists alike. As for my
description and commentary on the materiality of the neighborhood I will focus on the main street that
runs through the heart of Chinatown, known as Canal Street, and specifically the streets of Bayard,
Centre, and Mott. Canal Street is one of the arteries of the heart of the City of New York. With the
Manhattan Bridge s entrance from Brooklyn directly leading onto Canal Street, the amount of traffic
that bustles by on a daily basis is crazy and there are always traffic cops on duty whistling away. The

The Brothers Grimm Essay
Fairy tales have been passed down from generation to generation, each person in one way or another
altering the tale to reflect a piece of their life in the work . The Brothers Grimm wrote hundreds of
fairy tales in their life time and in these works they used their childhood experiences as reference.
Because of the hardships they faced growing up their tales take on a more gruesome approach to fairy
tales. Because their mother was their only caregiver growing up, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm reflect
their fondness towards her through the strong willed, independent female characters in their fairy
tales. Female heroines are rarely seen in modern day fairy tales, but as a result of their childhood the
Brothers Grimm utilized them frequently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A true hero in the eyes of Jacob and Wilhelm, their mother single handedly overcame opposition in
their family, just as their sister did growing up with five brothers. (Grimm, 11) The sentiment of being
abandoned as children unlocked a new territory of potential as their creative juices began to surge.
Child abandonment is a many faceted concept within myth, folktale, and literature, and the Brothers
Grimm explored this concept in great detail (Garry, 3). As they began to express themselves through
literature, male figures, such as fathers, were often dismissed as the females stole the spotlight in their
fairy tales. Some modern psychologists have argued that [their] harsh family background influenced
the ways the Brothers Grimm interpret and present their tales (Grimm, 15). Without a prominent male
figure growing up, they only had their mother to look up to and to idealize as the strong willed
individual who never gave up despite all the privation send her way. The Brothers Grimm incorporate
their own perspectives to generally recognized fairy tales, often adding a twist and a more callous feel
to them. They first started their collection of fairy tales in 1806 by writing down those that they had
previously heard from the females in their neighborhood while growing up. This serves as another
female sway on their fairy tales that influences their stance on men vs. women in regards to

Comparison Of The Book And Alice In Wonderland
Comparison of Alice in Wonderland Book and Movie Alice s Adventures in Wonderland written by
Lewis Caroll was originally published on November 26, 1865. On the other hand, the movie version,
directed by Clyde Geronimo, Wilfred Jackson, and Hamilton Luske and produced by Walt Disney, was
published in 1951. Carroll s book has twelve chapters and begins by describing a girl who named
Alice that falls down a hole and finds herself in wonderland. In comparison, the movie begins with a
scene not included in the book in which Alice sings about her world, foreshadowing wonderland. In
the beginning, the versions are similar. Alice follows the rabbit because she is bored with her sister
who only wants to read books with pictures. When she follows the rabbit, Alice finds herself in a
different world. The difference is that in the book when Alice comes to the place, she finds the rabbit
and follows him until she sees many doors. In the movie, however, the door talks to her instead. In the
movie Mrs. Doorknob never appears, but the door has magic and gives her a potion bottle and box on
the table. Conversely, in the book the bottle and box are already there. Because she didn t see the two
things, they appear after she talks to the door and he works his magic, and she drinks the potion to
become smaller so she can enter the door. In the second chapter, there are several differences. In the
book Alice feels so desperate that she was ready to ask help from

SUV VS GUYS
As the years have gone on we have seen many changes in the differences and roles of gender. Little
have we thought of seeing cars taking a role of gender, in this case an SUV. SUVs have taken the role
of a male with a feminine touch. Dave Barry s Guys vs. Men is a funny, interesting and in fact true
effort at explaining who guys really are, and why they are that way.
Reptile Dreams focuses more on characteristics of an SUV that reflect the characteristics of men. Both
authors produced a strategically strong essay in reference to their point of view with their own
personal touch using a topic that they know most about.
Dave Barry, the author of Guys vs. Men projects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My theory is the reptilian always wins, he said, If there s a crash, I want the other guy to die. Of
course, I can t say that aloud. Hence, the rationale for owning an SUV, and willingness to put others at
risk rather than themselves in a crash situation. Again, questioning the rules of moral behavior. For
Rapaille, the archetype of a sport utility vehicle reflects the reptilian desire for survival. People buy
SUVs, he tells auto executives, because they are trying to look as menacing as possible to allay their
fears of crime and other violence. The Jeep has always had this image around the world because of it
its heavy use in war movies and frequent appearances in newsreels from the 1940 s and 1950 s, and
newer SUVs share the image.
Guy vs Men strategy for showing a certain guy characteristic, like wanting neat stuff such as
mechanical and unnecessarily complex For example the result of guys having the need to have stuff
such as star wars, nuclear weapons, and such items that are in the extends of that genre. as to
differentiate with the characteristics of a women, he used the example of a women and her living room
design arrangement. Whereas a women find the need to rearrange the original position of their
furniture and would cheerfully use the same computer for years, oppose to guys, they do not have a
basic need to rearrange furniture nor keep a computer that is outdated. Dave

Summary Of Don Sabo s Pigskin, Patriarchy, And Pain
In Don Sabo s essay Pigskin, Patriarchy, and Pain , Sabo s central claim states that society s pressure
synthesizes males to accept and conform to pain, whether that be external or internal with an
underlying message to walk away from conformity. At the beginning of Sabo s essay, Sabo mainly
speaks about the external pain of his back, which started when he went out for football when he was
only eight years old in the interest of changing his physical appearance. While beginning at the age of
eight, Sabo played until the end of his NCAA career, which ultimately, turned out to be the result of
Sabo s spinal fusion surgery, and also was the result of Sabo being one of many men who got
swallowed up by a social system on male domination (86). The system that Sabo commonly refers to
is also known as patriarchy, which teaches kids to not only enjoy the pain, but to inflict pain too.
These teachings, according to Sabo, is the pain principal, which includes taking our anger out on other
people and limits our emotional expression (86). Another part of these teachings include taking pain,
and to take women, and take their place (87). Through all of this information, Sabo is trying to make
the inference that our Patriarchy system is corrupted and unfair. Women in this system are at the
bottom of the totem pole, and are even considered a prize for enduring the pain. This patriarchy
system doesn t only exist in sports, but it also exists in the military, business world, and in the

The Origin Of The Greaser Subculture In America
The term subculture is defined in the dictionary as a culture within a broader mainstream culture, with
its own separate values, practices, and beliefs. Studying subculture in the perspective of a sociologist,
is to understand and comprehend a specific culture. In today s modern society of America, there are
many variety of subcultures that a sociologist can examine from the past or in today s society. For this
paper, the chosen subculture to be investigated is the greaser subculture. Greasers are defined as a
working class youth subculture that originated in the 1950s among teenagers in northeastern and
southern United States. The paper will discuss the specifics on the origin of the greaser subculture in
America along with other factors that came along with it in history. The origin of the term greaser was
originally a derogatory name taken from the Greaser Act of 1855. The Act was passed in California
meant to deride workers or laborers of Mexican background in the middle of the 19th century. It was
also applied to Mexican with disdain due to their jobs at greasing wagon carts. The name for a greaser
in the fifties was given due to the unique hairstyle applied with hair wax and slicked back. How the
subculture of greasers came to be in America was that in the late 1940 s after the end of World War,
the male soldiers were either being discharged or sent back home. Most them were suffering from
what was known as shell shock or battle fatigue from the battlefields.

A Narrative Of The Captivity And Restoration
Held Captive, but not in Spirit Puritans take their relationship with God seriously, see him as good,
and rely on the Bible for guidance by reading it diligently. They look for ways that the Bible
resembles their own real life situations and try to carry on similar as they did. This is called typology
and is reoccurring theme in the narrative, A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration, written by
Mary Rowlandson. Rowlandson was taken captive by Indians in 1675, she documented those eleven
weeks in this narrative (Rowlandson ,256). It is a tragic tale that starts with seeing her family and
friends drowning in their own blood, all the while seeing her old life go up in smoke. Mary is a fine
example of puritan faith who never gave up hope. In Mary Rowlandson s narrative she demonstrates
her puritan faith through typology and relying fully on God s providence to revive her spirit daily.
Mary having only the cloths on her back, a sick baby, and a moldy cake in her pocket could only rely
on God s providence to keep her and give her favor. She was wounded when taken captive, but God
sent her someone to help her and give her medicine to apply to her wound. Then I took oaken leaves
and laid to my side, and with the blessing of God it healed me also, (Rowlandson, 261). We may not
consider these to be big blessings, but to Mary being in such a desolate state that they became her
bread and butter. After the death of her baby and being of low spirits, Mary asked God for a

Millard Fillmore Major Accomplishments
Millard Fillmore Millard Fillmore was the 13th president of the United States, taking over the
presidency after Zachary Taylor died in office. As a result, he was the second vice president to be the
president. His term lasted from 1850 to 1853 and he was the last Whig party president in office.
Millard Fillmore was known for being modest, even declining an honorary degree from Oxford
University, saying he had nothing to deserve it. Although he was more of a accidental president,
Fillmore did achieve some accomplishments during his administration that are widely known today.
The early years of Millard Fillmore were uneventful and filled with strenuous work. He was born in

After Zachary Taylor died suddenly in office in 1850, Fillmore took over the presidency without a vice
president. Thus, he was left to solve the conflicts that had arose between the North and South. One of
the solutions was proposed by Henry Clay, called the Compromise of 1850. Under the Compromise of
1850, California entered the Union as a free state, the Fugitive Slave Act was put into effect, the slave
trade in Washington D.C. was abolished, the border dispute between New Mexico and Texas was
settled, and the territories from the Mexican American War were left up to the people to decide
whether they wanted to be a slave or free state. Fillmore supported the compromise wholeheartedly
and hoped it would preserve the country and ultimately prevent a civil war. It did not prevent the civil
war, yet the compromise prolonged the war for another ten years. Additionally, towards the end of his
administration, he sent a fleet of ships lead by Matthew Perry to Japan to force trade relations. Once
his term ended in 1854, he ran for a second term in the election of 1856 with the Know Nothing Party,
an anti immigrant political party but

Director Boaz Yakin created film Remember the Titans . This film was set placed in Alexandria,

What Is Racism In Huck Finn
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain is one of the most controversial books in
American literature. Many students, parents, and teachers have been offended by this novel being a
mandatory reading in high school. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn should be a mandatory
reading for all juniors at Lake Oswego High School because of its historical context and important
insight into racism at the time period. The use of pejorative language throughout the novel is
polarizing due to the fact that many are offended by the words used, but others accept because of the
historical context. The n word is used a total of 219 times in Huck Finn. Many find the use of the word

Interpersonal racism is when someone has racist ideas instilled in their mind. It is nearly impossible
not to have any interpersonal racism in some form. An example would be having a new black kid at
school and the fact that he is black is the first thing that comes to mind. Interpersonal racism comes
largely from institutional racism. It mostly means when the government fails to provide appropriate
conditions for criminal justice, employment, housing, health care, political power, and education.
Institutional racism was at an all time high during the time period of Huck Finn. If you were an
African American, you were either a slave, or a free person with little to no chance at success in
America. Racism at the institutional level is a major contributing factor to interpersonal racism. How
the government treats a certain group makes you feel like that is okay but you do not really know why.
The ideas of racism have been instilled in everyone s mind forever and the government does that
change anything by treating African Americans like property when Huck Finn takes place. The
character of Huck Finn shows interpersonal racism throughout the novel because it was socially
acceptable to be racist to African Americans because most of them were slaves at the time. An
example of this is when Huck was confused that Jim was not as stupid as he thought Well, he was
right; he was most always right; he had

Stereotypes Of Mountain Biking
Picture a person mountain biking in your head. There is a stereotypical mountain biker. One who
doesn t care about nature, the one who leaves used energy packs on the ground, someone attempting to

but due to them leaving the most impactful impression on others that is how we have become marked .
Due to this stereotype, we have gotten banned from several trails. The truth is that many of the
workers who help maintain the trails that mountain bikers, hikers, and horse riders all share are
mountain bikers. Since then these trails with biking barred have gone into decay. This hatred of

international case Essay
Philips vs Matsushita Case
1.Briefly describe reasons for Phillips and Matsushita to operate internationally. Why do they do it?
Describe the international strategy of Phillips and Matsushita using the international strategy
classifications we discussed in class (e.g., localization, transnational, global).
Philips and Matsushita are two electronic (equipment and service) based powerhouses who had to
expand their business to the international market. One my ask why they needed to operate
internationally... each company, Philips and Matsushita, wanted to stand in front of their peer
companies as the market leader in the industry. In order to do this, each company would go through
various changes, some of which hurt and some of which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This structure is unlike that of the Philips where locals, within the national organizations, held senior
management positions. Basically, the structure gave some leeway to product control but still kept the
same global image of Matsushita. As times/cultures changed, the strategy that existed with Matsushita
during the early years proved to be the foundation of a successful company.
3.How these strategies are related the performance of these companies over time? Why? What is going
on in terms of industry competition and markets that makes one strategy outperform the other at any
point in time?
The performance of each company is different from time to time based on their two different
international strategies. Philips, for instance, showed poor struggles between national organizations
and product divisions since there was no centralized decision making terminal. In the end, the national
organizations held the power because they were in control of the assets. Being in control of assets, the
national organizations had more influence on the management team. Also the lack of clarity between
the two s responsibilities did not allow Philips to function effectively as a whole. They did have one
thing going for them though. Philips was able adapt to changing markets based on their localization
strategy. They

Questions On The Parenting Plan
Alvin,
I have some things that I would like to discuss with you, regarding the parenting plan. I recognize the
two of us have sort of have steered away from a few details and feel we need to get back on track.
EXCHANGE
Initially, when creating the parenting plan, the two of us agreed to meet half way for exchange since
you were living in Spring Hill, and I in Palm Harbor. This is why we chose the church. Since you
moved to New Port Richey a few months back, I have not suggested changing the location as I felt
comfortable meeting there. However, since your move, I understand you only live approximately 5
minutes away from the church; making it an exchange location no longer half way. After this past
Sunday, when I drove 30 minutes out of my way for the switch not to happen, I realized how unfair
that is to me. For this reason, I would like to change the exchange location to be closer to the middle
again. According to Google Maps there is slightly under 30 minutes drive (with no traffic) between
our addresses, therefore I feel a suitable meeting spot is at Publix in Tarpon Springs. This is still
further of a drive for me than for you, nevertheless I feel that it is an excellent location for a

The Death Of The Moth Annie Dillard Analysis
Annie Dillard s piece The Death of the Moth , is about Dillard being reminded of the death of a moth
she observes and how it relates to herself, this piece is a great depiction of the impact of life and death.
Dillard describes her surroundings living in a rural area and within her bathroom is a spider which
Dillard reminds of a moth that she killed in her past when she sees the web that the spider has spun
and how it has caught many bugs including two moths. She is intrigued by the dead moth s bodies and
givings a vivid description of the bodies While describing the moth s dead torn body she relates it to a
personal experience from her past where she watched a moth die with candle two years ago. Dillard
described the burning moth in vivid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Knowing this, she takes her experience and uses it to write this piece and uses it to spread her message
and her feelings toward the topic.
Dillard uses descriptions of her experience to flow with the story using metaphors and other ways of
conveying her message about life and death. Through this she allowed us to peer into her life in that
moment and convey the feeling she felt indirectly through the descriptions. This makes the text
effective because it causes the reader to look at oneself about life and death and the other topics that
could come from the essay. This gives her credibility because she experienced it first hand (ethos,
pathos). Playing on your emotion from person experience with death. Making the text more effective.
To conclude, Annie Dillard s piece The Death of the Moth; is about Dillard being reminded of the
death of a moth she observes and how it relates to herself, this piece is a great depiction of the impact
of life and death. She talks about her personal experience in a tone that

Globalization Is Not Being Exploited By Capitalists Essay
At one time, Joan Robinson, a British economist had said, There is only one thing that is worse than
being exploited by capitalists. And that is not being exploited by capitalists (Nayyar 2006, 4). The
process of globalization has changed the ways of human interaction and the flow of goods and
services, people, information and ideas creating an interconnected single community that is
continuously uniting many nations across borders. The emergence of easier accessibility to consumers
needs has skyrocketed the production and consumption of goods and services. With a greater demand
comes greater production and the twenty first century capitalist economies have changed patterns of
free trade, rely on commodities and resources to be able to make profit and be integrated into the open
market, benefitting from further economic growth. This change in trade patterns amongst different
markets are based on product specialization and the division of labour to create employment
opportunities, income and surplus benefits are extended to other parts of the globe. These patterns of
trade encourage greater competition between markets and low cost goods and services for consumers
(Ebeling 2004, 3). However, the process of globalization has created two different worlds of a winner
and a loser; the included and the excluded. Comparing these two worlds, one of them consists of
industrialized countries that benefit from more prosperity, inclusion, advanced efficient production

Lactose Lab Report
Abstract Lactose is recognised as a disaccharide; in other words, it consists of glucose and galactose
and two smaller sugars bound altogether with a covalent bond. In the form described, lactose is
indigestible by us humans; therefore it must be hydrolysed, or broken down, for our body in order to
process it. Lactase catalyses this process by decreasing the energy required for hydrolysis to happen.
Lactase is a digestive enzyme that catalyses the breakdown of lactose, a sugar found in milk. Lactase
works well within a limited range of both pH and temperature in its environment, thus making it
dependent on both elements for it to complete this essential reaction. If lactase is seen as non
functional because of temperature or pH extremes, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Fictional Technological Company Named Decisiontech, Inc.
Patrick Lenciono wrote about a fictional technological company named DecisionTech, Inc. to
illustrate how dysfunctional teams hinder the growth in every faucet of a business operation. The story
focuses on Kathryn, the new CEO, and her journey to fix the inefficiency and ineffectiveness of the
executive staff. Kathryn s primary task is to establish a system of trust and teamwork within the
executive team by destroying the five dysfunctions, absence of trust, fear of conflict, lack of
commitment, avoidance of accountability, and inattention to results that cripple the potential of any
team.
Within two years, DecisionTech, Inc. had built a reputation as the top technology company in the
country. They had a strong business plan that would lead them into the next stages of new technology
and investors were lining up to get a piece. Furthermore, they had young qualified engineers
submitting resume s regularly in hopes of employment. However, after a while, their executive team
developed internal conflict and was unable to lead this bright and promising company to the next
stage. Word of these actions had circulated and the company had now become known for having
personal political agendas and backstabbing; therefore, the Chairman of the board demanded change.
Change came in the form of replacing the formal CEO and co founder, Jeff, who remained within the
company as the head of business development. His replacement, Kathryn, lacked knowledge in the
technology field, but

Comparing Empires (Persia vs Rome)
Jacob Anderson
World Civ I
Empires
Persia Rome
The foundations of an ancient empire are shaped by many characteristics originating in a civilization s
social, philosophical, and theological values. Collectively these will bring about an empire that has
aspects which will classify them in distinctive ways. The aspects that will be compared between Persia
and Rome are the motives for expansion, methods of expansion, the administration, the impact on
those conquered and the original empire, and the reasons for the decline of each empire. When
combined, these aspects predispose the individual overall shape of ancient Rome and Persia. Both
empires began with conquering larger rulers and creating vast empires which had never been seen ...

Having the satraps lessened the attempt of independence as well as having an administration made up
of locals helped keep revolts down. The impact of expansion on the core Persian Empire was
generally looked at and received in a positive manner. Increasing populations created more cities and
more job opportunities allowed many Persians the luxury of making more money as the empire grew.
The bulk of the empire was still mostly farmers, however. One of the largest influences on the core
empire was Zoroastrianism. This was advocated by both Cyrus and Darius, Darius used it in order to
claim divine right to kingship. This new religion spread very quickly through high ranking Persians
(Bentley and Ziegler, 174). Zoroastrianism preached for people to enjoy this life but to live well for
the afterlife (Stearns, Zoroastrianism: The Major Persian Religion, 43 45). This allowed people to
have fun in this life and still be able to have eternal bliss; when people are having fun and happy they
are less likely to challenge their rulers. Cyrus and Darius both tolerated ethnic and theological
diversity. They did not try to force Persian culture on the conquered people. It seemed as though the
Persians just wanted to have the right to tax and have control of the land and its riches. The Seleucids,
Parthians, and Sasanids also advocated this policy. Although this policy worked quite well in allowing
for fluid execution of ruling,

Research Paper On Richard Branson
Richard Branson Innovation happens when people are given the freedom to ask questions and the
resources and power to find the answers. (Richard Branson) Richard Branson lived a troubled, yet
successful life. He is an inspiration to people all over the world. To me, Branson is living proof that
even if you fail, you can still succeed if you have the mindset and will to do so. Richard Branson had
three children by the names of Sam Branson, Holly Branson, and Clare Sarah Branson. He s had two
wives. In 1972 1979, he was married to a woman named Kristin Tomassi. His current spouse, married
in 1989, is Joan Templeman. A famous quote by Richard Branson says If you fall flat on your face, at
least you re moving forward. Branson was born on July 18th, 1950 in Surrey, England. According to
Biography Reference Bank , pg. 1 on Richard Branson, Branson s Father was a barrister, and his
mother, a flight attendant in London. My parents brought me up with this philosophy, Branson has
said, as quoted by Fred Goodman for Vanity Fair (May 1992): You must do things you mustn t watch
what other people are doing; you mustn t listen to what other people are doing. Branson took this
advice seriously and he ended up doing more sports than studying. His academic performance was
poor. Branson s dyslexia did not help his academic performance.. He went through several schools and
struggled for a long period of time with schooling. Virgin.com is Richard Branson s website today

What Does Integrity Mean To Me
As described by Merriam Webster dictionary:
1. Integrity
a. The quality of being honest and fair
b. The state of being complete or whole
2. Professionalism
a. The skill, good judgment, and polite behavior that is expected from a person who is trained to do a
job well
What integrity means to me? Integrity is being honest and fair along with being complete or whole.
Throughout my career in the military as well as in my personal life, I find integrity to be an important
trait in the way I live and hold myself. As of this time and point in my life I do not believe that I have
lost any of those things. Integrity and professionalism can go hand in hand. During my time on
deployment, being the only mine man, I have found myself working 13 plus hours on many days. A
normal work day is 0600 to 1600 but we do not see too many of those. Possessing the integrity to be at
work at 0600 to muster with someone that is not here themselves. With the long schedule I do not
complain, in turn, I provide the Navy with my strength, skills and abilities to do the best that I can.
I also have the integrity to do my job with professionalism to help my fellow I.T. sailor as much as
possible. Having the integrity to stay late and work continuously so that the ... Show more content on

Corporate Social Responsibility And How Companies Like...
In this week s journal, the discussion focuses on corporate social responsibility and how companies
like Citibank, N.A. are managing to navigate its organizational culture to fully embrace it. In addition,
we will discuss potential right versus right as well as right versus wrong scenarios that could emerge
under my leadership. I worked for ten years and have written about various aspects of the organization
for several courses. Therefore, my knowledge of Citi s performance and history continues to expand.

In the case of Citibank (aka Citi), corporate social responsibility is driving responsibility of its 2014
stakeholder engagement process. Citibank refers to it as its Citizenship policies and programs
(Citigroup, 2015).In the Citi Global Citizenship Report 2014; CEO Mike Corbat shared his view on
Citizenship. According to Corbat, given the pace and scale of global challenges and opportunities,
from providing access to basic banking services for the two billion people who lack it, to training the
workforce of tomorrow, Citi has a unique capacity to support economic progress in the communities
where we operate around the world (Citigroup, 2015, p.5). Founded within this three element
collective (invest, partner and act), there are five target areas; economies, cities, sustainable growth,
people and integrity (p.4). Citi identifies eight main groups as its stakeholders; clients and customers,
investors and Socially Responsible Investors (SRIs), employees, government and regulators, suppliers,
nongovernmental organizations, media and other financial institutions (p.70). For this discussion, we
will focus on four stakeholders.
Clients. Clients and customers are essential to Citi s success. Citi considers its clients and customers
as partners. They help to drive the business and client engagement. By actively engaging its customers
via social media and customer satisfaction surveys, Citi is working to rebuild

Barry B. Powell s Sedna, Mistress Of The Underworld
Sedna, mistress of the underworld is an Inuit myth that has been around for hundreds of years and
passed down generations. It is not clear when who the author or the myth is or when the myth started
being told since this story has been told for many, many years and was mostly likely told orally.
According to Barry B. Powell, this myth serves as an explanation for where whales and seals came
from as well as how Sedna became the mistress of the underworld, which is why the myth can still be
told today (Powell 488). At the beginning of the story, Sedna and her father are introduced to the
audience, who then learns that many young men are wanting to marry Sedna. She does not accept any
of them, however, because of her proud heart. Later on, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The imagery that is used when describing the setting allows the audience to not only picture clearly
where the characters are but also to give an explanation for why Sedna would rather marry a seagull
she just met than a young man who she has probably known for some time. Sedna wants the best for
herself and does not wish to be with a man who cannot offer her anything that her father cannot offer
her himself in terms of a shelter and food. Sedna s pride is her tragic flaw, and by not accepting what
was given/offered to her, she ended up being worse off than she was before. Another flaw for Sedna
and her father is that they are vengeful. Sedna s father gets revenge on the seagull, which almost
results in him murdering his daughter, and it is Sedna s revenge on her father and their hatred that
caused the earth to swallow them. From these, it can be understood that peacefulness, humility, whales
and seals, and being weary of strangers are all ideas, or animals, that this culture thinks is important.
These are a few of the ideas that can be taken away from this myth, but if they are looked at from
another

lot of saxophones solos from alto sax to baritone sax. The trumpet also played a big part to for solo,
this piece they did lot of crescendos as well as decrescendos. It gave a more bold jazz feeling which I
really enjoyed. Last but not least the NMSU jazz I came about on the stage to finish out the concert.
They had four songs to play instead of three like the other bands. They started off with Cell Talk
composed by Sammy Nestico . This piece was a calmer piece like a modern typical jazz piece. There
was great transitions as well bold accents through the pieces. The band ends with a piece called Uno

Before I begin noting my description of Chinatown, I must inform the reader of my existing attachments, sentiments, and personal connection with the neighborhood. I have been visiting this particular neighborhood for a rather large portion of my life. With my grandparents having lived in the Lower East Side for the formative years of my childhood, visiting Chinatown is something my brothers and I grew up doing for family outings and restaurant visits. For the past year, I have worked at the Museum of Chinese in America located on 215 Centre Street and therefore have regular interaction with the people who live and work in the neighborhood, as I am one of them. Although I live in the Bronx, like in most New York City neighborhoods, there exist many dimensions and areas that have their own unique and interesting histories that may be hidden to New York City residents and tourists alike. As for my description and commentary on the materiality of the neighborhood I will focus on the main street that runs through the heart of Chinatown, known as Canal Street, and specifically the streets of Bayard, Centre, and Mott. Canal Street is one of the arteries of the heart of the City of New York. With the Manhattan Bridge s entrance from Brooklyn directly leading onto Canal Street, the amount of traffic that bustles by on a daily basis is crazy and there are always traffic cops on duty whistling away. The Brothers Grimm wrote hundreds of fairy tales in their life time and in these works they used their childhood experiences as reference. Because of the hardships they faced growing up their tales take on a more gruesome approach to fairy tales. Because their mother was their only caregiver growing up, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm reflect their fondness towards her through the strong willed, independent female characters in their fairy tales. A true hero in the eyes of Jacob and Wilhelm, their mother single handedly overcame opposition in their family, just as their sister did growing up with five brothers. (Grimm, 11) The sentiment of being abandoned as children unlocked a new territory of potential as their creative juices began to surge. Child abandonment is a many faceted concept within myth, folktale, and literature, and the Brothers Grimm explored this concept in great detail (Garry, 3). As they began to express themselves through literature, male figures, such as fathers, were often dismissed as the females stole the spotlight in their fairy tales. Some modern psychologists have argued that [their] harsh family background influenced the ways the Brothers Grimm interpret and present their tales (Grimm, 15). Without a prominent male figure growing up, they only had their mother to look up to and to idealize as the strong willed individual who never gave up despite all the privation send her way. The Brothers Grimm incorporate their own perspectives to generally recognized fairy tales, often adding a twist and a more callous feel to them. Comparison Of The Book And Alice In Wonderland Comparison of Alice in Wonderland Book and Movie Alice s Adventures in Wonderland written by Lewis Caroll was originally published on November 26, 1865. On the other hand, the movie version, directed by Clyde Geronimo, Wilfred Jackson, and Hamilton Luske and produced by Walt Disney, was published in 1951. Carroll s book has twelve chapters and begins by describing a girl who named Alice that falls down a hole and finds herself in wonderland. In comparison, the movie begins with a scene not included in the book in which Alice sings about her world, foreshadowing wonderland. In the beginning, the versions are similar. Alice follows the rabbit because she is bored with her sister who only wants to read books with pictures. When she follows the rabbit, Alice finds herself in a different world. The difference is that in the book when Alice comes to the place, she finds the rabbit and follows him until she sees many doors. In the movie, however, the door talks to her instead. In the movie Mrs. Doorknob never appears, but the door has magic and gives her a potion bottle and box on the table. Conversely, in the book the bottle and box are already there. Because she didn t see the two things, they appear after she talks to the door and he works his magic, and she drinks the potion to become smaller so she can enter the door. Summary Of Don Sabo s Pigskin, Patriarchy, And Pain In Don Sabo s essay Pigskin, Patriarchy, and Pain , Sabo s central claim states that society s pressure synthesizes males to accept and conform to pain, whether that be external or internal with an underlying message to walk away from conformity. At the beginning of Sabo s essay, Sabo mainly speaks about the external pain of his back, which started when he went out for football when he was only eight years old in the interest of changing his physical appearance. While beginning at the age of eight, Sabo played until the end of his NCAA career, which ultimately, turned out to be the result of Sabo s spinal fusion surgery, and also was the result of Sabo being one of many men who got swallowed up by a social system on male domination (86). The system that Sabo commonly refers to is also known as patriarchy, which teaches kids to not only enjoy the pain, but to inflict pain too. These teachings, according to Sabo, is the pain principal, which includes taking our anger out on other people and limits our emotional expression (86). Another part of these teachings include taking pain, and to take women, and take their place (87). Through all of this information, Sabo is trying to make the inference that our Patriarchy system is corrupted and unfair. Women in this system are at the bottom of the totem pole, and are even considered a prize for enduring the pain. The Act was passed in California meant to deride workers or laborers of Mexican background in the middle of the 19th century. It was also applied to Mexican with disdain due to their jobs at greasing wagon carts. The name for a greaser in the fifties was given due to the unique hairstyle applied with hair wax and slicked back. • 13. A Narrative Of The Captivity And Restoration Held Captive, but not in Spirit Puritans take their relationship with God seriously, see him as good, and rely on the Bible for guidance by reading it diligently. They look for ways that the Bible resembles their own real life situations and try to carry on similar as they did. This is called typology and is reoccurring theme in the narrative, A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration, written by Mary Rowlandson. Rowlandson was taken captive by Indians in 1675, she documented those eleven weeks in this narrative (Rowlandson ,256). It is a tragic tale that starts with seeing her family and friends drowning in their own blood, all the while seeing her old life go up in smoke. Mary is a fine example of puritan faith who never gave up hope. In Mary Rowlandson s narrative she demonstrates her puritan faith through typology and relying fully on God s providence to revive her spirit daily. Mary having only the cloths on her back, a sick baby, and a moldy cake in her pocket could only rely on God s providence to keep her and give her favor. She was wounded when taken captive, but God sent her someone to help her and give her medicine to apply to her wound. Then I took oaken leaves and laid to my side, and with the blessing of God it healed me also, (Rowlandson, 261). We may not consider these to be big blessings, but to Mary being in such a desolate state that they became her bread and butter. Thus, he was left to solve the conflicts that had arose between the North and South. One of the solutions was proposed by Henry Clay, called the Compromise of 1850. Under the Compromise of 1850, California entered the Union as a free state, the Fugitive Slave Act was put into effect, the slave trade in Washington D.C. was abolished, the border dispute between New Mexico and Texas was settled, and the territories from the Mexican American War were left up to the people to decide whether they wanted to be a slave or free state. Fillmore supported the compromise wholeheartedly and hoped it would preserve the country and ultimately prevent a civil war. It did not prevent the civil war, yet the compromise prolonged the war for another ten years. Additionally, towards the end of his administration, he sent a fleet of ships lead by Matthew Perry to Japan to force trade relations. An example would be having a new black kid at school and the fact that he is black is the first thing that comes to mind. Interpersonal racism comes largely from institutional racism. It mostly means when the government fails to provide appropriate conditions for criminal justice, employment, housing, health care, political power, and education. Institutional racism was at an all time high during the time period of Huck Finn. If you were an African American, you were either a slave, or a free person with little to no chance at success in America. Racism at the institutional level is a major contributing factor to interpersonal racism. How the government treats a certain group makes you feel like that is okay but you do not really know why. The ideas of racism have been instilled in everyone s mind forever and the government does that change anything by treating African Americans like property when Huck Finn takes place. The character of Huck Finn shows interpersonal racism throughout the novel because it was socially acceptable to be racist to African Americans because most of them were slaves at the time. • 23. Globalization Is Not Being Exploited By Capitalists Essay At one time, Joan Robinson, a British economist had said, There is only one thing that is worse than being exploited by capitalists. And that is not being exploited by capitalists (Nayyar 2006, 4). The process of globalization has changed the ways of human interaction and the flow of goods and services, people, information and ideas creating an interconnected single community that is continuously uniting many nations across borders. The emergence of easier accessibility to consumers needs has skyrocketed the production and consumption of goods and services. With a greater demand comes greater production and the twenty first century capitalist economies have changed patterns of free trade, rely on commodities and resources to be able to make profit and be integrated into the open market, benefitting from further economic growth. This change in trade patterns amongst different markets are based on product specialization and the division of labour to create employment opportunities, income and surplus benefits are extended to other parts of the globe. These patterns of trade encourage greater competition between markets and low cost goods and services for consumers (Ebeling 2004, 3). However, the process of globalization has created two different worlds of a winner and a loser; the included and the excluded. Comparing these two worlds, one of them consists of industrialized countries that benefit from more prosperity, inclusion, advanced efficient production through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Lactose Lab Report Abstract Lactose is recognised as a disaccharide; in other words, it consists of glucose and galactose and two smaller sugars bound altogether with a covalent bond. In the form described, lactose is indigestible by us humans; therefore it must be hydrolysed, or broken down, for our body in order to process it. Lactase catalyses this process by decreasing the energy required for hydrolysis to happen. Lactase is a digestive enzyme that catalyses the breakdown of lactose, a sugar found in milk. Lactase works well within a limited range of both pH and temperature in its environment, thus making it dependent on both elements for it to complete this essential reaction. Comparing Empires (Persia vs Rome) Jacob Anderson World Civ I Empires Persia Rome The foundations of an ancient empire are shaped by many characteristics originating in a civilization s social, philosophical, and theological values. Collectively these will bring about an empire that has aspects which will classify them in distinctive ways. The aspects that will be compared between Persia and Rome are the motives for expansion, methods of expansion, the administration, the impact on those conquered and the original empire, and the reasons for the decline of each empire. When combined, these aspects predispose the individual overall shape of ancient Rome and Persia. Both empires began with conquering larger rulers and creating vast empires which had never been seen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Having the satraps lessened the attempt of independence as well as having an administration made up of locals helped keep revolts down. The impact of expansion on the core Persian Empire was generally looked at and received in a positive manner. Increasing populations created more cities and more job opportunities allowed many Persians the luxury of making more money as the empire grew. The bulk of the empire was still mostly farmers, however. One of the largest influences on the core empire was Zoroastrianism. This was advocated by both Cyrus and Darius, Darius used it in order to claim divine right to kingship. This new religion spread very quickly through high ranking Persians (Bentley and Ziegler, 174). Zoroastrianism preached for people to enjoy this life but to live well for the afterlife (Stearns, Zoroastrianism: The Major Persian Religion, 43 45). This allowed people to have fun in this life and still be able to have eternal bliss; when people are having fun and happy they are less likely to challenge their rulers. Cyrus and Darius both tolerated ethnic and theological diversity. They did not try to force Persian culture on the conquered people. It seemed as though the Persians just wanted to have the right to tax and have control of the land and its riches. The Seleucids, Parthians, and Sasanids also advocated this policy. It is not clear when who the author or the myth is or when the myth started being told since this story has been told for many, many years and was mostly likely told orally. According to Barry B. Powell, this myth serves as an explanation for where whales and seals came from as well as how Sedna became the mistress of the underworld, which is why the myth can still be told today (Powell 488). Sedna s pride is her tragic flaw, and by not accepting what was given/offered to her, she ended up being worse off than she was before. Another flaw for Sedna and her father is that they are vengeful. Sedna s father gets revenge on the seagull, which almost results in him murdering his daughter, and it is Sedna s revenge on her father and their hatred that caused the earth to swallow them.
