The document describes the design, development, analysis, and testing of a reusable sacrificial vehicle crash energy absorber impact damper. The proposed design includes an impact damper with a pressure relief valve to absorb crash forces during rear-end collisions. When a collision occurs, the damper spring is deflected and the pressure relief valve releases oil to dissipate impact forces without damaging vehicle components. The aim is to provide safety against rear and under-ride collisions. Through loading tests at different drop heights, the impact damper absorbed energy more effectively than a conventional system, with less displacement and a higher percentage of safety absorbed. The impact damper design is reusable, compact, cost-effective and provides increased vehicle and passenger safety during collisions
