Process-Centric Governance and Information ArchitectureSimon Rawson
All content is produced by processes, intended for the support or consumption of other processes. This is a premise I have propounded for over a decade. I have challenged thousands of people over nearly a decade to disprove this statement and offered $100 to anyone who can find an example which proves otherwise. I still have that $100 tucked away.
This presentation shows a high level process-centric information architecture, and tools to map processes and associate the content inputs and outputs. It shows examples of governance structures for ECM/KM projects, and the topics a governance strategy/plan should cover.
Finally, lessons learned about the common characteristics of highly successful ECM/KM projects are described.

Includes comparisons of on prem and online advantages and risks, and a quiz to help organizations plan accordingly.
Cross Process Governance: How to Balance Agility & ComplianceJason Bloomberg
Organizations have numerous, disparate ways of leveraging IT to automate or otherwise support the variety of business processes that constitute the operation of the business, typically focused on achieving business outcomes through continual optimization.
But when the organization seeks to be innovative, the story gets tricky when they treat innovation itself as a set of business processes. Innovation requires disruption, thus requiring a different management approach from traditional BPM-friendly "better-faster-cheaper" management techniques that drive optimization but limit innovation and resilience.
As a result, we're faced with the dilemma: invest heavily in custom integration to govern all our processes, thus sacrificing the agility drivers of innovation and resilience, or govern many of the processes manually in a piecemeal fashion, risking holes in our compliance.
The answer: cross-process governance that leverages dynamic constraint satisfaction. Implement technology that is able to interpret and apply diverse metadata across the organization, including policies, rules, and other governance-related information, maintaining compliance "on the edges," while disruptive innovation takes place as needed across the organization.
Webinar presented on Oct 21st (US) and Oct 23rd (EMEA), 2014 by Christian Buckley, Managing Director at GTconsult and Steve Marsh, Director of Product Marketing at Metalogix.

Microsoft SharePoint® Portal Server enables enterprises to deploy an intelligent portal that seamlessly connects users, teams, and knowledge so that people can take advantage of relevant information across business processes to help them work more efficiently. Two great examples are Washington University in St. Louis’ division of Biology and Biomedical Sciences and Cassidy Turley.
Washington University: The Division of Biology and Biomedical Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis was in need of not only a new web site, but a whole new platform to design and develop a dynamic internet presence. Bu utilizing Sharepoint, the new site has given us an efficient and smooth interface with many types of social networking, straightforward integration with existing database of information to broaden the reach of the division to our diverse audiences, and expanded ease of content management staff as well as constituents.
Cassidy Turley: Cassidy Turley is one of the biggest commercial real estate management organizations in the country, with diversified branches and numerous locations across United States – one of them being their brokerage division. In order to integrate all their business units, they needed a platform to organize and disseminate information across the organization and their existing platform was not serving their needs. By using Sharepoint 2010 they were able to create synergy within their organization across multiple divisions.

Webinar delivered by Informatica following Dreamforce 2012. This presentation features some of the #DF12 highlights, cloud integration and data management sessions and content and dives into a demonstration of Salesforce and SAP integration as well as Cloud Master Data Management (MDM).
There’s growing recognition in the analyst community that reference data is a form of master data that requires its own governance. Locations, currency codes, financial accounts, and organizational hierarchies are so widely used in an organization that mismatches can result in: reconciliation issues, poor quality analytics or even transactional failures.
While it’s easy to see how poor reference data management (RDM) can cause problems, many companies struggle with determining how to get started. Multiple questions arise: What’s the scope? How should one choose between RDM solutions? How do I compute ROI? To answer these questions and more, Orchestra Networks teamed up with Aaron Zornes, Chief Research Office of the MDM Institute and Godfather of MDM, for: Everything you ever wanted to know about Reference Data (but were afraid to ask).
In this hour long webcast featuring Aaron Zornes (MDM Institute) and Conrad Chuang (Orchestra Networks) you will learn the:
Characteristics of reference data,
Key features of a reference data management (RDM) solution,
Lessons learned RDM implementations,
and more

Metadata Matters – Collaboration, Search, and Information Governance at Brail...Concept Searching, Inc
Brailsford & Dunlavey has earned a reputation as a premier national program management firm, overseeing billions of dollars in new construction and renovation projects. It offers comprehensive services, ranging from planning through implementation, and manages all areas of risk, and maintains constant control of budget, schedule, and quality.
Brailsford & Dunlavey’s goal was to update its SharePoint 2010 intranet, to refresh an out-of-the-box design and to improve usability and collaboration. The existing intranet lacked a clear governance structure, effective information architecture, and mobile accessibility. With nearly 70,000 documents and more than 8,000 list items on its intranet, and another 200,000 on its client portal, the firm needed a way to make intranet content significantly more accessible to employees across several national offices.
The redeveloped and redesigned intranet was implemented with responsive design, to encourage the highly mobile workforce to access the site from anywhere. The intranet’s new, intuitive design reflects the look and feel of Brailsford & Dunlavey’s public facing website, and the refreshed information architecture has provided a clear path to find important information.
Join Brailsford & Dunlavey and Concept Searching to:
• Discover what was done from a technology perspective
• Understand how all the firm’s documents were tagged and classified
• Find out how long the project took
• Hear about challenges and lessons learned
• Learn what the benefits have been
• Watch a demo and see the intranet in action

This presentation tells the story of how we developed and delivered a product that met RIM requirements and was successfully adopted by the populace.

Hosted by Prescient Digital Media and Digital Workplace & Intranet Global Forum conference founder Toby Ward, who has now been hosting this monthly webinar for 17 years (outside of Covid).
The intranet is not a project, it’s a process. In fact, the intranet has more to do with people and process than technology, which is merely an enabler.
Designing a new or redesigning an old intranet requires a completely different approach to design than a consumer website (or mobile site, or mobile app).
In this 30-minute webinar, expert intranet consultant Toby Ward will look at and examine the importance of the key people behind leading intranets. You will learn:
* Engaging employees and executives during design
* Governance principles and best practices, roles and responsibilities

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)Ralf Eggert
In this presentation, we examine the challenges and limitations of relying too heavily on PHP frameworks in web development. We discuss the history of PHP and its frameworks to understand how this dependence has evolved. The focus will be on providing concrete tips and strategies to reduce reliance on these frameworks, based on real-world examples and practical considerations. The goal is to equip developers with the skills and knowledge to create more flexible and future-proof web applications. We'll explore the importance of maintaining autonomy in a rapidly changing tech landscape and how to make informed decisions in PHP development.
This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

63. And From this Complexity
We Heard From Employees…
Missing Important Communications
Employees were frequently missing important
announcements and time-sensitive reminders.
Delayed Approvals
Managers were losing approvals amongst other emails,
blocking important work or requests from being completed.
Too Many Login Screens
Many systems do not support Single Sign-On, requiring
employees to manually type their username and password
over and over.
Too Many Steps
If often took 10-15 clicks for employees to complete simple
transactions like approving an expense report or timesheet.
Time Wasted Context Switching
Employees would lose valuable time jumping from one system to
another to complete tasks or lookup common information.
Disconnected Corporate Systems
With each corporate department buying their own best-in-class SaaS
and vendor systems, it left a siloed impression of these groups.
Ignored Intranet Content and Communications
Information on the company intranet and other communications
weren’t personalized enough for employees to actually stop and read.
Complex Employee Experience
With no system to bring it all together, each vendor or SaaS product
had a completely different user experience from the other.
Difficulty Finding Information
Employees didn’t have a single tool to ask basic employee questions
like “what is the time off policy?”, ”what’s on the café menu?”, or “how
do I report a system outage?”
Cognitive Overload
With too many systems for employees to use, key information
and tasks were spread across multiple systems wasting
valuable employee time and increasing frustration.
