CURRICULAR STATEMENT
Develop factual, conceptual, procedural, metacognitive knowledge, process skills
and attitude on ear through lecture method, demonstration, group discussion and evaluation by questioning, participating in
group work and discussion.
CONTENT ANALYSIS
NEW TERMS: pinna, ear drum or tympanum, ear canal, ear ossicles, Eustachian tube, cochlea, oval window, perilymph,
endolymph, organ of corti, auditory centre
FACTS:
 Pinna directs the sound waves towards the ear canal.
 Ear canal directs sound waves to the ear drum. Small hairs and ear wax seen in this area prevent dust and pathogens.
 Ear drum or tympanum is the membrane at the inner most end of the ear canal. Vibrates in accordance with sound
waves.
 Ear ossicles directs the vibrations that occurin the ear drum towards the oval window. It consists ofmalleus, incus, and
stapes.
 Cochlea is the part with three fluid filled sacs. Auditory receptors are situated in this part. It has a shell of snail like
appearance.
 The middle chamber of cochlea is filled with a fluid called endolymph and other two with perilymph.
 Oval window vibrates in accordance with the vibration of stapes.
 Eustachian tube connects the middle ear with pharynx. It regulates the pressure in the middle ear.
 Vibration of the oval window causes vibration in the perilymph.
 Organ of corti is located in the middle chamber of cochlea.
 Impulses thus formed reach the auditory centre of the brain through the auditory nerve.
 The semicircular canals and vestibule that are parts of the inner ear help to maintain the equilibrium ofthe body. These
parts are filled with endolymph
CONCEPTS
MINOR CONCEPTS
 External ear constitute pinna, ear canal, ear drum.
 Middle ear consists of ear ossicles and Eustachian tube.
 Internal ear consists of oval window, cochlea, semicircular canals, vestibule and auditory nerve.
MAJOR CONCEPTS
 Ear is the sense organ that aids in hearing. It consists of external, middle and internal ear.

INTRODUCTION
Teacher makes a rapport with students by asking questions
related to contextual situation .Then teacher asks following
Questions for checking previous knowledge
1) What are sense organs?
2) Can you name any sense organ?
3) Which is the sense organ which helps in hearing?
Teacher says “so today we are going to study about ear and its
Parts along with its function”
PRESENTATION
ACTIVITY I
Teacher shows a CD depicting ear and its parts. Teacher asks
Students to observe the various parts of ear.
BLACKBOARD
 Pinna
 Ear canal
 Tympanum
 Eustachiantube
 Ear ossicles- malleus, incus, stapes
 Oval window
 Cochlea
 Auditory nerve
 Semi circular canals
ACTIVITY II
The teacher shows a chart explaining parts of ear and
their functions. Later she explains about it.
Consolidation
Ear is senseorgan which aids hearing and it
has external ear, middle ear and internal ear.
EAR
EXTERNAL EAR
 Pinna- directs the sound waves towards the ear canal
 Ear canal – directs sound waves to ear drum. Small
hairs and ear wax prevent dustand pathogens
 Ear drum /tympanum – membrane at the
innermost end of the ear canal. Vibrate the
accordancewith sound waves.
MIDDLE EAR
 Ear ossicles– direct the vibrations that occurin ear
drum towards the oval window. It consists of incus,
malleus, and stapes.
 Oval window- vibrates in accordancewith the
vibration of stapes.
 Eustachiantube – Connects middle ear with
pharynx. Regulates pressure in the middle ear.
INTERNALEAR
 Cochlea – It has three fluid filled sacs. Middle
chamber filled with endolymph and others with
perilymph. Auditory receptors seen in the organ of
corti in middle chamber.
 Semicircularcanals and vestibule – It is the part
of inner ear help to maintain the equilibrium of the
body. These parts contain endolymph.
 Auditory nerve – impulses are carried to auditory
nerve.
Teacher asks questions,
1. Which are the parts of internal ear?
2. What is the function of Eustachian tube?
3. What is organ of corti?
4. What is the function of semicircular canal and vestibule?
BLACKBOARD
 External ear – ear canal, ear drum,
pinna.
 Middle ear– oval window, ear
ossicles, Eustachian tube.
 Internal ear –cochlea and semicircular
canals.
ACTIVITY III
Teacher divides pupil into groups and give them
Hand-outs containing crossword puzzle to solve based on topic.
ACROSS
4) Small hairs and ear wax is seen.
6) Regulates pressure in the middle ear.
9) Directs vibrations towards oval window.
10) Auditory receptors are seen here.
CONSOLIDATION
 External ear and middle ear helps in
transmission of sound vibrations to
internal ear.
 Internalear helps in balancing body.
11) Fluid in the middle chamber of cochlea.
DOWN
1) Membrane at the innermost end of the ear canal.
2) Directs sound waves towards ear canal.

Innovative lesson plan

  • 1. INNOVATIVE LESSON PLAN Name Of The Teacher: Standard: Name Of The School: Strength: Name Of The Subject: Biology Average Age: Name Of The Unit : Sense Organs Duration: Name Of The Lesson: Ear Date: CURRICULAR STATEMENT Develop factual, conceptual, procedural, metacognitive knowledge, process skills and attitude on ear through lecture method, demonstration, group discussion and evaluation by questioning, participating in group work and discussion. CONTENT ANALYSIS NEW TERMS: pinna, ear drum or tympanum, ear canal, ear ossicles, Eustachian tube, cochlea, oval window, perilymph, endolymph, organ of corti, auditory centre FACTS:  Pinna directs the sound waves towards the ear canal.  Ear canal directs sound waves to the ear drum. Small hairs and ear wax seen in this area prevent dust and pathogens.
  • 2.  Ear drum or tympanum is the membrane at the inner most end of the ear canal. Vibrates in accordance with sound waves.  Ear ossicles directs the vibrations that occurin the ear drum towards the oval window. It consists ofmalleus, incus, and stapes.  Cochlea is the part with three fluid filled sacs. Auditory receptors are situated in this part. It has a shell of snail like appearance. These parts are filled with endolymph CONCEPTS MINOR CONCEPTS  External ear constitute pinna, ear canal, ear drum.  Middle ear consists of ear ossicles and Eustachian tube.  Internal ear consists of oval window, cochlea, semicircular canals, vestibule and auditory nerve. MAJOR CONCEPTS  Ear is the sense organ that aids in hearing. It consists of external, middle and internal ear.
  • 3. LEARNING OUTCOMES IN TERMS OF SPECIFICATIONS Enable the pupil to develop 1) Factual knowledge on ear through: a) Recalling the new terms like pinna, ear drum, ear canal, ear ossicles, Eustachian tube, cochlea, oval window, perilymph, endolymph, organ or corti, auditory nerve. b) Explaining about ear, its parts and functions. 2) Conceptual knowledge on ear, its parts and functions through: a) Explaining about ear, its parts and functions. 3) Procedural knowledge on ear and its functions through: a) Explaining about ear, its parts and functions. 4) Metacognitive knowledge on ear and its functions through a) Recognizing about ear, its parts and functions. b) Describing about ear, its parts and functions. 5) Different process skills through: a) Observing different parts of ear and its functions. b) Identifying different parts of ear. c) Communicating through presenting group work. 6) Scientific attitude towards the study of ear, its parts and functions PREREQUISITES Pupil knows that ear helps in hearing and maintaining balance ofbodyand it consists ofexternal ear, middle ear, and internal ear.
  • 4. TEACHING LEARNING RESOURCES ICT MATERIALS  CD depicting the ear and its parts CHARTS  Chart showing different parts of ear and its function REFERENCES  Textbook of standard X, NCERT  Textbook of standard IX, SCERT CLASS ROOM INTERACTION PROCEDURE PUPIL RESPONSES INTRODUCTION Teacher makes a rapport with students by asking questions related to contextual situation .Then teacher asks following Questions for checking previous knowledge 1) What are sense organs? 2) Can you name any sense organ? 3) Which is the sense organ which helps in hearing?
  • 5. Teacher says “so today we are going to study about ear and its Parts along with its function” PRESENTATION ACTIVITY I Teacher shows a CD depicting ear and its parts. Teacher asks Students to observe the various parts of ear. BLACKBOARD  Pinna  Ear canal  Tympanum  Eustachiantube  Ear ossicles- malleus, incus, stapes  Oval window  Cochlea  Auditory nerve  Semi circular canals
  • 6. ACTIVITY II The teacher shows a chart explaining parts of ear and their functions. Later she explains about it. Consolidation Ear is senseorgan which aids hearing and it has external ear, middle ear and internal ear. EAR EXTERNAL EAR  Pinna- directs the sound waves towards the ear canal  Ear canal – directs sound waves to ear drum. Small hairs and ear wax prevent dustand pathogens
  • 7.  Ear drum /tympanum – membrane at the innermost end of the ear canal. Vibrate the accordancewith sound waves. MIDDLE EAR  Ear ossicles– direct the vibrations that occurin ear drum towards the oval window. It consists of incus, malleus, and stapes.  Oval window- vibrates in accordancewith the vibration of stapes.  Eustachiantube – Connects middle ear with pharynx. Regulates pressure in the middle ear. INTERNALEAR  Cochlea – It has three fluid filled sacs. Middle chamber filled with endolymph and others with perilymph. Auditory receptors seen in the organ of corti in middle chamber.  Semicircularcanals and vestibule – It is the part of inner ear help to maintain the equilibrium of the body. These parts contain endolymph.  Auditory nerve – impulses are carried to auditory nerve.
  • 8. Teacher asks questions, 1. Which are the parts of internal ear? 2. What is the function of Eustachian tube? 3. What is organ of corti? 4. What is the function of semicircular canal and vestibule? BLACKBOARD  External ear – ear canal, ear drum, pinna.  Middle ear– oval window, ear ossicles, Eustachian tube.  Internal ear –cochlea and semicircular canals.
  • 9. ACTIVITY III Teacher divides pupil into groups and give them Hand-outs containing crossword puzzle to solve based on topic. ACROSS 4) Small hairs and ear wax is seen. 6) Regulates pressure in the middle ear. 9) Directs vibrations towards oval window. 10) Auditory receptors are seen here. CONSOLIDATION  External ear and middle ear helps in transmission of sound vibrations to internal ear.  Internalear helps in balancing body.
  • 10. 11) Fluid in the middle chamber of cochlea. DOWN 1) Membrane at the innermost end of the ear canal. 2) Directs sound waves towards ear canal. 3) Maintains equilibrium of the body. 5) Appears like the shell of a snail. 7) Impulses reach the auditory centre of brain. 8) Smallest bone in body.
  • 11. REVIEW QUESTIONS 1) What is organ of corti? 2) Mention the functions of internal ear? FOLLOW UP ACTIVITY 1) Draw the diagram of ear and label the parts
