a) comprehend the figure of speech. 
b) comprehend vocabulary and sentence pattern. 
c) communicate using appropriate language. 
d) develop self reading habits. 
: Oxymoron is a figure of speech in which incongruous 
or seemingly contradictory terms appear side by side. 
Teaching – Learning Resources : Flash cards 
: The pupils might be familiar with figure of speech. They might 
have a general idea about the figure of speech ‘Oxymoron’.

ENTRY ACTIVITY: 
The teacher enters the class and creates rapport by asking some questions.

b) Are you familiar with figure of speech? 
c) Say any two figures of speech that you are familiar with? 
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: 
A figure of speech is a form of expression used to convey the meaning or heighten effect, often by 
comparing or identifying one thing with another that has a meaning familiar to the reader or listener. 
INTRODUCTION: 
Today we are going to learn the figure of speech ‘Oxymoron’. The teacher gives flashcards to each 
bench regarding the examples of Oxymoron. 
OXYMORON EXAMPLES 
 Known secret 
 Orderly confusion 
 Original copy 
 Random order 
 Pretty ugly
The students are asked to observe the examples and generate the rule. 
DETAILED DESCRIPTION: 
The teacher gives the definition for the figure of speech ‘Oxymoron’. 
‘An Oxymoron is usually defined as a phrase in which two words of contradictory meaning are 
brought together’. 
The teacher then asks the students to observe the examples given below. 
ACTIVITY: 
 Clearly misunderstood 
 Act naturally 
 Exact estimate 
 Only choice 
The teacher divides the class into two groups. The students are asked to construct examples 
regarding the figure of speech ‘Oxymoron’ and to write one sentence for each example. 
DISCUSSION: 
The teacher make the students read the examples from each groups.
WINDING UP ACTIVITY: 
The teacher provides the given sentences. The students are asked to find out the Oxymoron from 
the examples. 
HOME WORK: 
 The oink of the pig. 
 The sound of silence. 
 It was seriously funny. 
 The achoo of the sneeze. 
 Life is a journey. 
 There is a small crowd in front of the shop. 
Find out any five examples regarding the figure of speech ‘Oxymoron’

A Unit : Figure of speech Name of the supervisor : Dr. Meenakshy Topic : Oxymoron Type of lesson : Innovative lesson plan Date : Serial number : 1 Strength : Standard : VIII Period : Subject : English Duration : 45 minutes : To enable the learners to comprehend the figure of speech ‘ ‘Oxymoron’ through listening, speaking, reading and writing. : The pupils will be able to a) comprehend the figure of speech. b) comprehend vocabulary and sentence pattern. c) communicate using appropriate language. d) develop self reading habits. : Oxymoron is a figure of speech in which incongruous or seemingly contradictory terms appear side by side. Teaching – Learning Resources : Flash cards : The pupils might be familiar with figure of speech. They might have a general idea about the figure of speech ‘Oxymoron’. ENTRY ACTIVITY: The teacher enters the class and creates rapport by asking some questions. a) Do you like English language? b) Are you familiar with figure of speech? c) Say any two figures of speech that you are familiar with? GENERAL DESCRIPTION: A figure of speech is a form of expression used to convey the meaning or heighten effect, often by comparing or identifying one thing with another that has a meaning familiar to the reader or listener. INTRODUCTION: Today we are going to learn the figure of speech ‘Oxymoron’. The teacher gives flashcards to each bench regarding the examples of Oxymoron. OXYMORON EXAMPLES  Known secret  Orderly confusion  Original copy  Random order  Pretty ugly
  • 3. The students are asked to observe the examples and generate the rule. DETAILED DESCRIPTION: The teacher gives the definition for the figure of speech ‘Oxymoron’. ‘An Oxymoron is usually defined as a phrase in which two words of contradictory meaning are brought together’. The teacher then asks the students to observe the examples given below. ACTIVITY:  Clearly misunderstood  Act naturally  Exact estimate  Only choice The teacher divides the class into two groups. The students are asked to construct examples regarding the figure of speech ‘Oxymoron’ and to write one sentence for each example. DISCUSSION: The teacher make the students read the examples from each groups.
  • 4. WINDING UP ACTIVITY: The teacher provides the given sentences. The students are asked to find out the Oxymoron from the examples. HOME WORK:  The oink of the pig.  The sound of silence.  It was seriously funny.  The achoo of the sneeze.  Life is a journey.  There is a small crowd in front of the shop. Find out any five examples regarding the figure of speech ‘Oxymoron’
