INNOVATIVE LESSON PLAN
Name of the teacher trainee: PRIYANKA L.P
Unit : Cell clusters
Lesson unit : A field trip to school garden to familiarise Simple plant tissues
Standard : VIII
Curricular statement : In developing conceptual , factual and meta cognitive dimensions of
knowledge , process skills , interest , attitude and appreciation about Simple plant tissues through
lecture method , field trip , evaluated by oral questioning and checking science diary
Content analysis
New terms : Parenchyma , aerenchyma , chlorenchyma collenchyma, sclerenchyma .
Facts
 Simple tissues are made up of one type of cell.
 Simple permanent tissues found in plant body are parenchyma ,
collenchyma and sclerenchyma.
 The parenchyma cells are oval , spherical, or polygonal in shape.
 The walls of parenchyma cells are made up of cellulose .
 Parenchymatous cells are found in the soft parts of the plant body.
 When parenchyma contain chloroplast it is called chlorenchyma.
 Chlorenchyma carry out photosynthesis.
 Parenchyma also carried out photosynthesis.
 When parenchyma contain air chambers it is called arenchyma .
 Floating of aquatic plants are due to the presence of arenchyma.
 Collenchyma is composed of cells that are thick only at
corners.
 It provide flexibility and support to the plant body.
 Collenchymas can prevent the bending and stretching of wind.
 Sclerenchyma is composed of cells that are uniformily thickened.
 It provide strength and support to the plant body.
Objectives
 To make the students aware about different types of simple plant tissues
 Differentiate different simple plant tissues
 Identify the functions of simple plant tissues
 Checking the necessity of different plant tissues in plant body
Pre requisite
Plant body is composed of different types of tissues.
Teaching learning resources
Tender plant parts , aquatic plants, coconut shell, different plant parts seen in the surrounding
Chart showing plant tissues.
Reference
Biology text book VIII standard
Plant physiology B.P Pandey
Interaction procedure students response
Teacher asked students that
Today we are going to learn by going outside our classroom.
Are you ready? Yes
So you have to observe carefully our surrounding
Teachers and students get entered in to the school garden students touches and feels the nature
and showed a tender plant tip to the students and asked of plant tip
students to touch it
what is the peculiarity of this plant tip? It is very soft to touch
very good , can you find such soft parts any where yes
else in the plant body?
Which are they ? Emerging leaf buds, flowerbuds
Yes you are right . do you know how these plant parts feel no
very soft ?
This is due to the presence of parenchymatous cells. The cells
of the parenchymatous tissues may be oval , spherical or
polygonal. And these are composed of only one type of cells .So
it is a simple tissue.
when the Parenchyma contain chloroplast it is called
chlorenchyma. What is the function of chloroplast? photosynthesis
So that chlorenchyma carry out photosynthesis .
Interaction procedure Students response
Teacher asked students to observe the floating plants in a
Pond in the garden
How the plants float in the water bodies?
No It is due to the presence of air chambers in the
parenchymatous cells these cells are called aerenchyma.
So that we had studied about parenchyma and two types of
Parenchyma such as chlorenchyma and aerenchyma.
Teacher showing the chart containing parenchyma and its
types
Teacher asked students to observe a bended branch of a
tree and told the students that this branch has been bended
due to the heavy wind. But it didn’t break. isn’t it ?
why ?
This flexible nature of branches is due to the presence of
Collenchymatous cells .These cells have thickening only at
the corners ,they provide flexibility and support to the plant
Body , it is also a simple tissue .
Teacher showed students a bit of coconut shell in the
garden and asked one of them to take and feel the nature
of coconut shell. What do you feel?
It is very thick due the presence of cells called
sclerenchyma . It provide strength and support to plant body.
Teacher showing the chart containing the picture of
collenchymas and sclerenchyma.
Students observing the floating plants
Due to the flowing nature of water
Yes
Because the branch is very flexible
It is very thick
Interaction procedures
Ok now we had seen different plant tissues and its function.
What are the different types of plant tissues?
Which tissue is responsible for the soft nature of the plant
tip?
Which tissue is responsible for the floating nature of water
Plants?
Which plant tissue have uniform thickening in their walls ?
response
Parenchyma, collenchyma and
sclerenchyma
Parenchyma
Aerenchyma
sclerenchyma
Enrichment activity
Teacher asked students that you have to find possible examples different plant parts
from your locality as examples of different plant tissues

The cells of the parenchymatous tissues may be oval , spherical or polygonal. And these are composed of only one type of cells .So it is a simple tissue. when the Parenchyma contain chloroplast it is called chlorenchyma. What is the function of chloroplast? photosynthesis So that chlorenchyma carry out photosynthesis .
  • 4. Interaction procedure Students response Teacher asked students to observe the floating plants in a Pond in the garden How the plants float in the water bodies? No It is due to the presence of air chambers in the parenchymatous cells these cells are called aerenchyma. So that we had studied about parenchyma and two types of Parenchyma such as chlorenchyma and aerenchyma. Teacher showing the chart containing parenchyma and its types Teacher asked students to observe a bended branch of a tree and told the students that this branch has been bended due to the heavy wind.
