This document discusses Paracoccidioidomycosis, a chronic fungal infection of the lungs that can also affect the mucous membranes, skin, and lymph nodes. The infection is associated with soils and armadillos. The main symptoms are pulmonary lesions, cervical adenopathy, and tooth loss. The fungus has a long latency period of 10-20 years. Clinical specimens used to diagnose include sputum, biopsies, pus, and bronchial washings. Serological testing using immunodiffusion has high sensitivity and specificity. Recommended treatments include amphotericin B, sulfonamide-trimethoprim, itraconazole, and voriconazole.
