The Main reasons why the Industrial
Revolution began in Britain
Some key points to remember:
• The Agricultural Revolution of the 18th century provided a favourable climate for industrialization.
• With a growing population, resources needed to be quickly and easily manufactured in large quantities. The
establishment of factories and large businesses with labor force.
• People moved from rural villages or hamlets, to larger cities, where work was readily available. Cites such as
London, Manchester and Liverpool saw population booms during the peak of the Industrial revolution.
• The iron and textile industries, along with the development of the steam engine, played central roles in the
Industrial Revolution, which also saw improved systems of transportation, communication and banking.
• While industrialization brought about an increased volume and variety of manufactured goods and an
improved standard of living for some, it also resulted in often grim employment and living conditions for the
poor and working classes.

to view and take notes on your experience with your site study. There will be
images and two discussion questions required for you to complete after your
visit!

  • 1. Industrial Revolution ICT Source-work assessment and Site study review. Weight: 10%
  • 2. Site Study Where will we be going? In week 10, students from History 10A will attend the workshop and exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum (MAAS) in Sydney. What will we see on the trip? Primary artifacts and evidence of the Industrial revolution (19th cen.). What will I need? Permission note, ICT PowerPoint template for assignment task, and your thinking caps!

Section One: Source-Work: Use images in previous slide to answer the questions. • Who and what do you see? • What are they doing? • What can you see in the foreground or background? • Tell us about their gestures, expressions? • Using these scenes/photographs, what do you think may be happening to these individuals?

The Main reasons why the Industrial Revolution began in Britain Some key points to remember: • The Agricultural Revolution of the 18th century provided a favourable climate for industrialization. • With a growing population, resources needed to be quickly and easily manufactured in large quantities. The establishment of factories and large businesses with labor force. • People moved from rural villages or hamlets, to larger cities, where work was readily available. Cites such as London, Manchester and Liverpool saw population booms during the peak of the Industrial revolution. • The iron and textile industries, along with the development of the steam engine, played central roles in the Industrial Revolution, which also saw improved systems of transportation, communication and banking. • While industrialization brought about an increased volume and variety of manufactured goods and an improved standard of living for some, it also resulted in often grim employment and living conditions for the poor and working classes.
