My Life I Have Been Exposed With Little Diversity Essay
Throughout my life I have been exposed to little diversity. I grew up in what is considered to be the
whitest city in America , in schools that were even less diverse. In fact, I went to the third richest
public high school per capita in the country with a student body that was 98% white. It may seem like
I am flaunting myself, however, it is the opposite. Growing up in a city neighborhood where I was
rarely exposed to outside affliction, I never truly grasped the true meaning of freedom . Of course, like
in most schools, my professors would discuss it in class, but it is impossible to comprehend a concept
without experiencing, witnessing or reading about it in depth. Throughout high school, freedom to me
was refusing a curfew and staying up late with friends, aware, but rarely caring about went on outside
my bubble. Despite not accepting it at the time, I was what most upper middle class white kids are.
Ignorant.
Fortunately, I decided to branch out and travel more than 3,000 miles to come to a small liberal arts
college (little did I know that one class would change my perspective on freedom entirely).
Throughout the term nearly all the books had a theme of freedom, however, five stood out in
particular Democracy and Its Global Roots by Amartya Sen, On Liberty by John Stuart Mill and The
Republic by Plato, The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Frederick Engels and Omelas by

Agriculture Change over Time? The transatlantic slave trade which took place during the mid
seventeenth century until the late eighteenth century is observed as one of the largest forced
migrations (Lewis, et Al., 2009, 2). The discovery of the America s pursued by European nations led
to the uncovering of significant luxury goods and precious metals such as sugar, coffee, and gold
(Eltis, 2008, 1). The slave trade resulted in African slaves that were trafficked from Africa to the
America s to be used as labor supply to mass produce these goods on plantations set up along the
coast. These luxury products in its primary form were produced at these plantations and were
transported back to Europe to satisfy the high demand for luxury goods (Eltis, 2008, 4). Over the
period where the transatlantic slave trade was active, the relationship between the economic viability
of the slave trade system and the agricultural productivity of slaves offset each other and move with
each other. The research presented has demonstrated that mortality rates of slaves and transportation
costs affected the economic viability to sustain the slave trade which would then affect agricultural
slave productivity on the plantations within the Caribbean. What has been examined throughout the

Blood In Blood Out Analysis
Identity that which we all struggle to find. Miklo is the very same case in Taylor Hackford s Blood In
Blood Out who struggles to prove himself as a Chicano due to his white skin however culturally
Miklo is as Chicano as anyone in Onda. The most important part of this dynamic, is that when Miklo
gets arrested for killing spider, a rival gang leader, the prison gang system is divided by race and skin
color all which he is stuck in the middle of. In prison, is where he would meet Magic a member of
spider s gang which openly fought with Miklo s gang Vatos Locos. They quickly become friends
despite their previous conflicts and confrontations between the two gangs because as Popeye

It is a black versus brown versus white with no blending in between until Miklo who in the surface is
very white but brown within. Only when Onda unites does everything go well, this in part was due to
the murder of El Mero Mero. One major theme in Blood In Blood Out is that political and social
improvements are inevitable once the Raza Unites. A similar case is discussed in Chapter 27 of En
Aquel Entonces which discuss the La Raza Unida Party who in great part was influenced by the Black
Power Movement which stressed pride in black culture. In a very similar ideology, La Raza Unida

Introduction Child labor has been an enormous issue lingering amongst our world today, but yet
people d not realize that it is still occurring more often in developing countries. Throughout the last
few decades, child labor has been declining in many countries. However, more than 250 million
children between the ages of 5 and 14 are still working ( Child labor around, 2013). Some sort of child
labor exists in each country due to weak economic structure and lack of regulations. These children
are often forced to work under hazardous conditions, which can be identified as child labor ( Child
labor around, 2013). Many of these children s childhood are taken away from them as well as an
opportunity to gain an education. They lose the opportunity to understand what it is like to have a
normal childhood. Children in poverty end up with no choice but to work under extremely hazardous
conditions. Children are often viewed as cheap labor which leads to corporations taking advantage of
child labor to look for an opportunity of increasing their profits. Corporations often have overseas
subcontractors that use child labor as a method of maximizing profits ( Child labor around, 2013).
Child labor often occurs to the poverty trap cycle , which means children lacking an education lead
towards the work path. The poverty trap cycle is classified as a cause and effect; the first step of
