What Is Luck Is A Matter Of Preparation Meeting Opportunity
Oprah Winfrey once said, Luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity. What Oprah means by
this statement is that hard work and effort are the key to meeting opportunity. When someone
succeeds and another fails, it is not because of how lucky either of them were, but how much of an
effort each of them had made. I agree with Oprah Winfrey because hard work and effort are more
important.
First, opportunity is rare to come by making it better to have the experience of taking. Experience
gives people an advantage over the other, the more of it one has, the better their chances. For example,
Oprah Winfrey went through countless interviews while working for small television companies and
every time she failed she only gained the experience in doing better next time. Now look at her, she is
one of the riches women in the world living the dream life. Gaining experience allows us to expand
our perception of what we see. The bigger our viewpoint is the more ideas we develop and the greater
an asset we become, increasing the chances of being successful.
Second, preparation, it can only be beneficial and advantageous. Preparation increases the chances of
being successful. Furthermore there is no harm in being prepared. For example, studying for a test will
increase the odds of gaining a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The stronger the feelings to accomplish a goal the more effort and work will be put into making that
goal a possibility. If we believe that someone or something will come along and lend a helping hand
that will only lead to failure. Although if something does happen and someone does offer help,
without any skills, experience or attitude in moving along you will just end right back at square one
depending on luck. This is why we need the motive to work whether it may be internal motivation or
external motivation it does not matter. Motivation allows us to work towards our goals slowly making

Finance At The University Of Florida
Page 1: Personal Reflection 1. I am studying Finance at the University of Florida because not only do
I have a creative side but an intellectual side of me too. Crazily, mathematics comes naturally to me
and is also a huge concept in finance, but finance isn t just numbers, it incorporates various aspects
such as communication, problem solving, and creativity. Finance unites my limitless passion for math
and joins it with some of my personality traits, which is the best of both worlds. More specifically, in
my upbringing, money was tight and my parents always stressed when facing financial issues. My
background catalyzed my admiration to the effect the power of money holds when used properly.
Finding the best financial effects and awareness of all options to make well informed financial
decisions to assist an individual or a company in the most beneficial way seems rewarding and
intriguing to me. So, all of these elements have directed me into my interest in Finance. 2. Ideally,
successful, inspired, independent, and skilled are just a few ideas that describe my picture perfect
image of what I imagine of my life 5 years ahead of today. After I receive my bachelor s degree in
Finance I plan to pursue higher education in a Master s program for Finance. I would love to do my
Master s at a high profile school ranging from University of Florida to New York University. A vision
I ve always had of myself is that I would accomplish to be a business woman that works for a huge

Camouf
In this essay, we ll look further into the adaption trait of camouflage. Camouflage has been an
adaptation that has evolved in many species of animals to help them escape the threat of predators.
When considering an intelligent way to avoid being eaten, camouflage seems to be a winning trait that
would certainly be passed down to subsequent generations of offspring.
Examples of camouflage in nature are wide ranging and found in animals of almost every biosphere
on the planet. Some specific examples of animals that use camouflage are: scorpion fish that change
colors to match their surroundings, the walking stick which looks nearly identical to a twig on a tree,
and perhaps the most noticeable and talked about in recent history, the peppered ... Show more content

Because the ability to evade predators is a matter of life and death in the animal kingdom, camouflage
has evolved due to natural selection (National Geographic, 2013). Going back to the famous case of
the peppered moths: this particular indecent of fast acting natural selection was a well documented
example of animals in the wild changing their color through offspring in order to survive. During the
late 1800 s while the industrial revolution was in full stride, British scientist noticed that the normally
lite colored peppered moths stood out very noticeable against the soot covered trees (National
Geographic, 2013). Because the environment had changed, birds were able to more easily find and eat
the lighter moths, and thus a rare, dark colored peppered moth became much more common as they
were more camouflage than their white counter parts (National Geographic, 2013). This may seem
like a coincidence, whoever, once Britain started to clean its air and produced less soot, the moths
more common color went back to being white. This strongly supports that animals with the best
camouflage survive in greater numbers, and thus pass those traits on to offspring who also stand a
better chance of survival.
As camouflage is an adaptation that occurs across many species and different groups in the same
habitat it is considered an analogous trait. Analogous traits are those that occur because

Do Not Assume Who I Am By My Appearance Essay
Do Not Assume Who I Am By My Appearance Nowadays, stereotypes seem to be the way we justify
and categorize society. It can also be said that stereotypes are one way in which we define the world in
order to see it. Because, if the world isn t defined, then how can we as people, grasp the concept of it?
How do we justify our action, and those of others? People often, prejudge others or objects by
grouping them into categories or styles they are familiar with, and then treat them by their experiences
or just follow what other people usually do, without questioning their actions and motives. That causes
miscommunication, argument or losing opportunities to broaden the life experience. Stereotypes are
usually formed based on an individual s appearance, race, and gender that would put labels on people.
The appearance of a person in general is one of the most important causes of stereotypes. People
usually tend to stereotype a person from what they see and think. In Brent Staples Just Walk On By: A
Black Man Ponders His Power to Alter Public Space, he experienced a certain stereotype from a white
woman because of his appearance. He explained, To her, the youngish black man a broad six feet two
inches with a bread and billowing hair, both hands shoved into the pockets of a bulky military jacket
seemed menacing close (Staples 394). That white woman labeled Staples as a dangerous person who
might hurt her, so she ran away as soon as she could. In other words, people

Essay about Why Marijuana Should Be Legalized
Marijuana s illegalization has always been erroneous. Early in the 1900s, a surge of Mexicans
immigrated to the U.S., and the marijuana they brought with them was quickly associated with them.
In the 1930s, tensions between white Americans and Mexican immigrants were heightened due to the
Great Depression, and the use of marijuana was ultimately prohibited for the general public in 1937
with the Marijuana Tax Act ( Marijuana Timeline ). By the 1960s, marijuana became a symbol of
counterculture, and the government stopped any research involved with its properties. In 1971,
President Richard Nixon began the War on Drugs, and marijuana was dragged into it. Nixon assigned
a commission to review the danger marijuana possesses, and the ... Show more content on

Studies by the British Medical Association and World Health Organization have concluded that
medical marijuana could be used to treat symptoms of certain diseases (Koch). Due to the extensive
testing that these two organizations did and the fact that they are very reputable, there is enough
evidence that medical marijuana should be used to help patients. Since marijuana is readily available,
and there is research to confirm its medical uses, there is no reason not to use it. Opponents of the use
of medical marijuana argue that it could have unintended societal consequences. Robert L. DuPont of
the National Institute on Drug Abuse argues that teen attitudes to marijuana are linked to medical
marijuana laws, and that medical marijuana would normalize drug use ( Teen Drug Use ). This is not
true. The Institute of Medicine was asked to conduct a study on medical marijuana by the White
House. The IOM concluded that, among other things, the use of medical marijuana would not increase
recreational usage rates of marijuana (Koch). Since this organization is clearly reputable, there is
enough evidence that the legalization medical marijuana wouldn t affect the general population s use
of marijuana in any way. Since DuPont also didn t provide any evidence for his claim, it can be
dismissed. Due to the evidence provided, it is clear that marijuana has positive health benefits. In
addition, marijuana should be legalized because its illegalization

Theme Of Courage In Beowulf
In the epic poem, Beowulf, the main character, Beowulf, can be seen as one of the most prime and
pure examples of an epic hero due to his almighty courage. What is an epic hero without courage?
Well, not a epic hero at all. Beowulf has the superhuman strength, glory and fame, but he cannot
embody those characteristics if he does not have courage to drive him primarily. Initially, the reader
can get a taste of Beowulf epicness when he heavily boasts about his battle at sea with Breca. Due to
jealousy, Unferth calls him out for his loss in the thrashing waves, yet Beowulf shows no
embarrassment and even exploits Unferth for his lack of braveness as he claims, The fact is, Unferth,
if you were truly as keen and courageous as you claim to be, Grendel would never have gotten away
with such unchecked atrocity, attacks on your king, havoc in Heorot and horror everywhere (Heaney
590 594). He makes it clear that no one can deteriorate or match the courage that he beholds. While he
the battle is brought up, Beowulf states that Often, for undaunted courage, fate spares a man that it has
not already marked (572 573). This is inferring that if one hasn t died yet due to fate, they can
continue living their life through courage. This foreshadows the mindset of Beowulf and how he holds
the theory of bravery close in his morals. As Beowulf goes on to explain this rigorous battle, he claims
that not only did he swim for seven days in full armor, but also nonchalantly slayed nine sea

The Cause Of A Child Living In Poverty
Society has gotten to a point in which many of those whom are left in poverty stricken situations are
forgotten. We sometimes seem to care more about the health and wellbeing of those in other countries
before helping those closest to home during their time of need. Many continue going about their day
to day lives not realizing those forgettable people we threw to the side were once children that could
have been helped if we had just taken the extra time and concern. Those people could have had the
chance to live up to their full potential and perhaps could have changed the world. Children who live
in poverty are subjected to such things as lower education attainment as well as low earning potential.
Poverty stricken children are more likely to be raised in poor neighborhood environments, have less
access to food, minimal access to health care, and a toll can be taken on their emotional and
behavioral development. So what could be the cause of a child living in poverty? There is only one
answer to that question and that is INCOME . If a family does not have the financial means to run a
family then there will be many things that they will have to go without. The most important of those
things is a child would be growing up and missing out on many mental growth developments. Living
in poverty brings forth lots of risk to a child s overall development. However, we must get to the root
of the issue in order to find a way to solve the problem. Through research I was able to

I Am A Soldier And A Good Person
The army has taught me so many great things. It taught me how to be a disciplined soldier and a good
person. I was inexperienced of life before I joined the army. Therefore, I was overwhelmed of life
lessons when I came to basic training. However, I learned the seven army values which were loyalty,
duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage; I experienced every value
throughout my training process. They help me to discipline myself to be a good soldier and a good
person. The value that I honored most was integrity. I was taught that integrity was doing what s right,
legally and morally. However, throughout my training experience, I understand integrity as fearless, to
tell the truth, responsible for your own action, and hardworking.
Integrity means the courage, to tell the truth. In the beginning of my training process, I was told to
study the seven army values by heart. I didn t understand why my drill sergeants made such a big deal
about those values. The seven words were easy to remember, and we all knew the meaning of them.
However, I changed my mind when I witness Lopez s situation. Lopez ate a Twister bar and left its
wrap in the trash can. My drill sergeants found out about it and questioned the whole platoon. Lopez
was fear of the punishment, so he didn t admit his wrong action. Lopez was considered having no
integrity by the whole platoon. However, Lopez wasn t the only one who was accused of having no
integrity; my drill sergeants were

The moon is widely believed to have formed when a mars sized object collided into the earth about
4.5 billion years ago this impact was so catastrophic that debris was kicked into orbit around earth

first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning crescent, third quarter, and waning gibbous. All of
these phases take about 29 days to complete. The phases of the Moon depend on its position in

Impact of the Ratification of the 13th Amendment on Commerce
Background Information on the Thirteenth Amendment:
The 13th amendment to the United States constitution was introduced in order to free the slaves from
slavery and make united states a free country by abolishing and prohibiting slavery. This amendment
finalized the abolition of slave trade in the United States. The 13th amendment has its origin in the
proposition made by Abraham Lincoln to his cabinet in relation to the freeing of all slaves in the
rebellious states. It was proposed by the 38th congress of the United States and passed by the senate
on 8th April 1864 before being adopted on the 6th of December in 1865 following the announcement
of the secretary of state who declared it to have been adopted.

Cotton which was grown by slaves contributed to more than half of the export earnings of the United
States before the abolition of slave trade. Slaves were the best and cheap forms of labor in most of the
plantations as it allowed the plantation owners to increase production at lower costs. Slave trade had
been an integral part of southern America and the abolition of slave trade through the thirteenth
amendment destroyed the foundations of the southern economy because most of the slaves worked in
agricultural fields in the south. Following the ratification of the 13th amendment, agricultural output
declined which was followed by the subsequent reduction in income. Slave trade was important in
agricultural, mining and construction industries as well as factories which were of significant impact
to the southern economy (Engerman 192).
Since most of the slaves in the southern region moved up the northern region after the abolition of
slave trade, this created a huge gap in the workforce of the southern region which strained the
southern region. As a result the south printed huge amounts of money which caused inflation and
subsequently plunged the region into debt. This region could not recover from the debts because it
could not receive any foreign aid. In the aftermath of slave abolition, there was reduced demand for
cotton which was a main source of revenue in the south which limited the region s ability

The Film American History X
The film American History X begins with an average American middle class family; four well
behaved children and two all American parents living in Long Beach, California. The father is killed
in a shooting, leaving his eldest son, Derek, the head of the household. Derek becomes enveloped in
Neo Nazi culture from the end of his adolescent years into early adulthood, and he becomes the leader
of a gang. At this point, his younger brother, Danny, is an adolescent and begins mimicking his older
brother s behavior. But the turning point of the movie is when Derek is convicted for murdering a
black man and serves three years in prison. This film is primarily an example of moral growth,
ontological shock, and choosing what kind of influence one wants to project onto others. Derek
realizes that he is going to be held accountable for all of the viewpoints he has endorsed to others, that
with drastic actions come drastic consequences, and that autonomy is a powerful force when fueled
with willpower. The importance of social influence is a strong theme to American History X, which is
why I think Lev Vygostky s socio cultural theories surrounding cognitive development can explain the
film s meaning well. According to Vygotsky, the interactions a person has between the environment
and other human beings determines the learning that takes place. The type of environment that a child
grows up in also greatly affects a person throughout life, as well. Vygostky also believed that tutors

Whaling in US compared to Japan Essay
Whaling in US compared to Japan
Did you know that in the last 50 years over two million whales have been killed? The United States
views whaling very differently than Japan does. It is a complicated and controversial topic. Many
people have opinions about whale hunting. However, everyone should know both sides of the whale
hunting issues before they act on the issue. To start out I am going to tell you a little about whaling.
The first whale hunters were in the prehistoric times. At first they would just kill and eat beached
whales. That became such a habit that they started hunting them. Most whale hunters use harpoons,
guns, lances, or bombs that blow up inside the whale. They use catcher boats, or kayaks. In 1925,

code on whale hunting. The United States never depended on whale meat like Japan. They mostly
whale hunted for a hobby. The Congress feels that whales are a unique resource of great scientific
interest to mankind and are a vital part of the marine ecosystem. Man has overexploited whales for
many years, highly reducing species and endangering others. The United States has extended its
responsibilities to protect all marine animals. They think that whales are a particular interest to citizens
of the United States. Japan started whaling way back in the 2nd Century BC. They whale because they
have whale meat as part of their diet. In 1946, whale meat was not considered special food anymore
but was necessary to keep the Japanese healthy and alive because they depended on it for so long.
People ate whale meat as a source of protein whether they liked it or not. In 1947, about 47% of the
total animal protein was whale meat. Until the 1960 s, whale meat continued to be their main source
of protein. In 1962, the whaling industry recorded 226,000 tons of whale meat; this was the highest
amount throughout the history of the Japanese whaling. The percentage of whale meat consumption
compared to the total animal meat consumption was 23% in 1964. (whalenet 1) Whale meat was the

War is destructive of youth and innocence. There is a change in mood where the first stanza talks

in verse 10. He hated those who considered to be making a profit out of the war and those who were
happy and proud their children going to serve their country: This creates a patriotic feeling.
Moods/ Feelings * Bitter * Conscious * Anger * Rage * Antagonism * Resentment * The dominant
mood of this poem is anger but there is also a feeling of sadness and sorrow about the young man s
death.

faced in the trenches. it made me think how inhumane the world that we are a part of is, that such

How Did The Drought Affect The Dust Bowl
Source 1 The Dust Bowl is a popular name for the approximately 388,500 km2 (150,000 mi2) area
that includes the Oklahoma and Texas panhandles and adjacent parts of Colorado, New Mexico, and
Kansas. The area is characterized by light soil, a low annual rainfall of 380 mm (15 in), and high
winds. The federal government replanted grass, planted trees, and introduced scientific agricultural
methods; as a result, farming became possible again. The Dust Bowl endured other, less severe
droughts in the 1950s and 60s. The migration and hardships of the Dust Bowl farmers are described in
John Steinbeck s novel The Grapes of Wrath (1939).

Machines are beneficial to the degree that they eliminate the need for labor, harmful to the degree that

How Did The Us Achieve Latin America s Goals
The United States had many ways to try and achieve it s goals in Latin America.
The United States Congress passed the Foraker Act, which established a civil government in Puerto
Rico. This act authorized the President of the U.S. to appoint a governor and part of the Puerto Rican
island legislature.
The U.S. established Cuban as a protectorate. The Treaty of Paris granted Cuba its independence, but
the U.S. Army didn t want to withdraw from the island until the year 1902. The Platt Amendment
restricted the rights of newly independent Cubans and effectively brought the island with the U.S.
sphere. This amendment prevented Cuba from signing a treaty with another nation without American
approval. It also allowed the U.S. the right to intervene to preserve order in Cuba. Cuba eventually
agreed with the Platt Amendment and added it to it s constitution. This treaty made Cuba a
protectorate of the U.S. and governed their relationship for many years.
Theodore Roosevelt developed a policy for the U.S. action in Latin America. It is called big stick

The Perspective of Plato and Aristotle on the Value of...
The Perspective of Plato and Aristotle on the Value of Art
As literary critics, Plato and Aristotle disagree profoundly about the value of art in human society.
Plato attempts to strip artists of the power and prominence they enjoy in his society, while Aristotle
tries to develop a method of inquiry to determine the merits of an individual work of art. It is
interesting to note that these two disparate notions of art are based upon the same fundamental
assumption: that art is a form of mimesis, imitation. Both philosophers are concerned with the artist s
ability to have significant impact on others. It is the imitative function of art which promotes disdain
in Plato and curiosity in Aristotle. Examining the reality that art ... Show more content on

Art is removed from any notion of real truth, an inherently flawed copy of an already imperfect world.
Art as an imitation is irrelevant to what is real.
Aristotle approaches reality from a completely different premise. While his ideas do stand in sharp
contrast to Plato s, they are not simply a refutation of his former mentor s views. To Aristotle, the
world exists in an infinitely diverse series of parts. These various parts are open to human observation
and scrutiny. Rather than an eternally regressing truth beyond the scope of human apprehension,
knowledge of truth and good are rooted firmly in the observable universe; truth, or at least gestures
toward it, lies in existence rather than essence. Aristotle encourages embracing the particular in order
to possibly gain a sense of the universal. There is, however, no universal system of inquiry to
investigate each part of the whole. Different parts require different methods of discourse. In The
Poetics, Aristotle attempts to articulate a method of inquiry, not a rigid system or standard of
evaluation, applicable to tragedy. Tragedy attempts to imitate the complex world of human actions,
and yet tragedy is itself still part of a larger, more complicated world of human existence. Tragedy is a

Importance Of The Lower Class In A Connecticut Yankee In...
In A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court, written by Mark Twain, there exists a clear
incongruence between nobility and the lower class. While knights and landlords live lavishly without
a concern for acquiring basic necessities, peasants often struggle to feed themselves and their families.
With so few individuals holding such a large portion of the wealth, a vast gap between the rich and the
poor plagues society. For the most part, King Arthur remains completely oblivious to these issues that
the lower class faces every day. He ineffectively governs, failing to consider the needs of all people.
King Arthur s interactions with the lower class and his inability to understand peasants lifestyles
demonstrate the flaws of the monarchy system. Hank, on one hand, wants to infiltrate the lower class
so that he can observe first hand the effects of his innovations on the lifestyle of the common man. In
contrast, the king goes along simply for the purpose of enjoyment. Hank narrates, When I told the
king I was going out disguised as a petty freeman to scour the country and familiarize myself with the
humbler life of the people, he was all afire with the novelty of the thing in a minute, and was bound to
take a chance in the adventure himself (Twain 150). King Arthur does not seem to understand the
difficult lifestyle of the lower class. Any individual who accurately perceives the hardships and
burdens of the life of a peasant would not jump at the opportunity to

The political landscape, economic climate change and religious beliefs all factored into the Cold War
due the fact that it lasted nearly 5 decades. The Cold War changed histrionically from each
administration change that every nation faced during these long time periods. In the Soviet Union
political landscapes went from Stalin to Khruschev then Brezhnev, each impacting the Cold War with
significant actions. In the film Czechoslovakia 1968: We Don t Want to Live on Our Knees explains
after the suicide of Hitler the fascist regime merely changed from Hitler s Third Reich to Stalin s Red
Army in 1944 45. The same could be seen in Khruschev who shifted from non aggressive too
aggressive in Hungary October 31st 1958 (Zubok, p.117). Next, Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev
invaded Prague, Czechoslovakia in the spring of 1968, which was dubbed the Brezhnev Doctrine,
which states Moscow has the right to intervene in any country where a communist government had
been threatened. (History.state.gov, 2014). This oppression could be felt in economical, religious and
cultural facets as well and all made subsequent Soviet/American relations increasingly difficult.

The Importance Of Juvenile Delinquency
Juvenile delinquency is an issue that remains troublesome since it is in direct correlation with adult
crime. While the age crime curve, which is universal in Western populations remains constant,
persistence in terms of criminal behavior seems higher for individuals who start early in life (NIJ,
N.A.). Since girls tend to start offending at a younger age, they should receive more attention in terms
of prevention but they do not (NIJ, N.A.). Selecting female juvenile delinquency as an issue since it
should receive more attention than it has been granted in the past seems adequate. Girls enter a system
that was created by men for men and lacks of appropriate programs and initiatives for a population
that requires it. The lack of gender responsive programs and consideration for criminal pathways make
this issue important to analyze. In the past, girls have been considered as deviant for a multitude of
different aspects, whether it is related to their sexuality, their mental instability or their refusal to
adhere to their social roles. We now see a trend where girls commit similar crime than boys, while
they remain less violent, they have expanded in the participation in criminal behavior. Research shows
that girls become delinquent for different reasons than boys, but those differences are rarely addressed
in the juvenile justice setting. Offering truly gender responsive programming and educating society
and justice professionals as to which pathways lead to criminality in

America’s Assistance to the Tibetans Essay
America s Assistance to the Tibetans
Starting in the late 1940s, with Cold War tensions running high and the subsequent Communist
takeover of China as well as the outbreak of the Korean War, there was a growing fear in the United
States of the possibility of a global conflict between the Communist bloc and the West. Thus, the US
government adopted a policy of doing its best to contain Communism around the world, especially in
Asia after the formation of the People s Republic of China (PRC). When the People s Liberation Army
(PLA) invaded Tibet in 1950, the US considered it possible or even probable that the PRC would use
Tibet as a launching pad to expand Communism into the rest of South and Southeast Asia, an early

In keeping with the historic Chinese conviction(never actually formalized) that Tibet was at the very
least a vassal state of China, the Nationalist government took the official stated view that Tibet was an
integral part of the Republic of China (Xu 1063). Therefore, we deferred to the Nationalist point of
view when considering Tibet s legal status in the 1940s. The fact that the KMT believed Tibet to be
part of China would be a factor in the US Tibet policy as long as the KMT remained in power in
mainland China ( Norbu 264). In fact, if the KMT somehow managed to hold on to power in China in
the Civil War against the Communists, the US would have declined to support Tibetan independence.
However, by 1948 the KMT s defeat was imminent and the US Ambassador in India recognized the
possibility that if the Communists succeed in controlling all of China...we should be prepared to treat
Tibet as independent to all intents and purposes (Knaus 55). At this early stage, even with such
statements bringing up the issue of recognizing Tibetan independence, the US continued to make an
effort to avoid alienating Chiang Kai shek and the KMT (Roberts 2).
By early 1949, Mao s Communist forces had gained full control and formed the PRC. Its stated goals

Mozart s Requiem At The Seattle Symphony
Every time I hear about famous composers, like Bach or Mozart, the names themselves put me to
sleep quicker than any anesthesia ever could. So, it was no surprise that I absolutely dreaded the idea
of seeing a piece written by any of these composers. I attended Mozart s requiem at the Seattle
symphony, I grunted at the idea of paying $38 for something I wasn t even interested in. How dare
they charge an absurd amount for something that was written before time itself? I took my seat and
looked out at the sea of older retired couples and couldn t believe this would be my fate someday.

and currently the music director for the Seattle symphony.
Morlot started off playing the violin, but in 1994, attended the Royal Academy of Music to become a
conductor. He first started playing for the Seattle Symphony in 2009, and would later go on to sign a
six year contract with the Seattle symphony. As the lights dimmed, the musicians took their places and
began playing. At the same time I sank into my seat and put my phone on the dim setting and began
my quest to find something interesting on Facebook. The first piece consisted of only string
instruments, and only about twenty musicians playing. The tone of the music started off slow and
gentle. As they kept playing, I quickly found it harder and

Battleship Potemkin Essay
Editing manipulates the audience s point of view of the story. Different cuts can delineate the plot and
the meaning of the images distinctively. Battleship Potemkin, directed by Sergei Eisenstein was the
example of how editing created emotions to the viewers in the theatre. The editing made the sequence
into a lesson of how the Soviet Union authority was pressuring the public with complete dominance of
violence. Battleship Potemkin is a movie produced by Eisenstein in 1925. A film about the Soviet
Union soldiers life on the battleship and how they disobey their authoritative generals. In addition,
how they are welcomed by their families and the people, but get turned down by the governmental

Traditional Methods Of Managing Personal Income
There are three traditional methods of managing personal income. 1. Budgeting, 2. Keeping a
spending history, and 3. Doing nothing (also known as living from paycheck to paycheck). Budgeting
involves setting what percent of future income is to be spent on which categories of expenses, and
then recording all purchases in order to track how well spending is staying within the predefined
limits. The process sounds very simple, however, it is difficult, in my opinion, to stick with a budget
for very long. The energy and dedication needed to keep track of where the money goes is
tremendous. I ve tried budgeting on several occasions and failed miserably because I couldn t stomach
keeping track of every penny I spent. Traditional budgets also tend to fail because the setting of rigid
spending limits does not lend itself well to being flexible. When unforeseen expenses pop up, a budget
can be rendered useless very quickly. It s my experience that budgets can feel like monetary straight
jackets that are soon abandoned. Spending Histories A Vicious Cycle Keeping a spending history also
involves the recording of every penny spent. The intent is to use the spending history as a basis for
identifying spending habits that can be improved and then making needed changes to future spending
patterns. The main weakness of keeping a spending history is that it is focused on past activity and,
therefore, is of little help when a person is trying to make immediate decisions about

Bananas, Chiquita, and Globalization
Bananas, Chiquita and Globalization
While globalization is a relatively new phenomenon in theory, but not necessarily in history, as of
2009 it has created transnational corporations linked to government, international economic
institutions, and non government organizations. (Steger 67). With this definition bananas are a
textbook example of the globalization of tropical fruit commodities. The transnational corporations of
the United States, most notably Chiquita, Dole and Del Monte, have been linked to the governments
of Latin and South America, the World Trade Organization, and the organic fruit movement. By
tracing the path from banana plantations to supermarket it becomes clear how the morals of capitalism

It is at this first stage of production at the plantation where the most exploitation of workers takes
place. As an article about workers rights in Ecuador says, people are not seen as being as important as
the final product (Astorga 2). Because a lot of banana exporting countries have monoculture
economies, most of the countries depend on jobs and income from banana producers. Most of these
jobs are contracts too resulting in only temporary work. Not surprisingly, 10 cents of every dollar
spent on Chiquita bananas stays in the production process (Wiley 71). Banana workers are notorious
for being paid dismal wages; it should be no surprise that profits benefit the powerfully rich fruit
companies not plantation workers. Ecuador , in particular, is known for paying the lowest wages
because there are few unions. The average daily wage in Ecuador is $2 in contrast to $9 in Costa Rica
(STITCH), allowing Ecuador to sell boxes of bananas for cheaper. With no unions, Chiquita does not
pay health insurance, overtime pay or money for education. For most banana workers the threat of
being fired triumphs the promises of unions, simply because Chiquita would not be profitable without
cheap labor. For banana workers they must work under strenuous working conditions, often working
twelve hour days, carrying heavy bunches of bananas cut from the banana trunk.

Basic Financial Concepts and Pinkerton
Executive Summary. Wathen is attempting to value the proposed acquisition of Pinkerton in an effort
to determine whether bids of $85 million to $100 million is value enhancing for CPP s shareholders.
Additionally, Wathen must choose between two financing options: (1) raising $100 Million via a $75
million debt structure at 11.5% interest rate together with a $25 million equity investment for a 45%
stake in the combined company and (2) a $100 million debt facility at 13.5% interest rate. General

With the synergies expected, the value to CPP increases by $14.6 Million (see exhibit 4). Generally
for the particular small firms to maintain rating of A, the firms have to maintain a debt service ratio of
6. Hence it is practical to assume interest coverage ratio of 6.0x in the long term for Pinkerton in this
case. Pinkerton gets benefit from 34% tax shield, which account for the value of $15.4 Million (see
exhibit 5). Therefore, as calculated in exhibit 6, the total value of Pinkerton from 3 sources to CPP in
expected case is $119.7 Million. This is higher than the $100 million asking price. Financing: Free
cash flow after debt service is still positive in both options. For the value to existing shareholder, as
option 1 CPP gives premium of $15.2 Million over $25 Million for 45% stake of CPP to investors,
option 2 of $100 Million Debt would be more preferable. Pessimistic Case Valuation: We then
perform the valuation exactly the same method as expected case. The value of Pinkerton with less
gross margin and more working capital needed is $67.1 Million (See exhibit 9 for 5 years valuation
and exhibit 10 for terminal value). With lower performance, the value of 34% tax shield is also lower
to $10.8 Million (see exhibit 12). Without any additional incremental value to CPP (exhibit 11), total
Pinkerton value from 3 sources is $77.9 Million (exhibit 13), which is even less than the original
proposed value of $85 Million from Wathen. Financing:

The Social Studies Problem Solving Processes Essay
) What is meta cognition in social studies? Using three examples explain the social studies problem
solving processes.
Meta cognition in social studies is said to be the ability to use prior knowledge to plan a strategy for
approaching a learning task, take necessary steps to problem solving, reflect and evaluate results and
modify one s approach as needed. It can also be said to be awareness of one s own knowledge, what
one does and doesn t know, and one s ability to understand, control and manipulate one s cognitive
processes.
Meta cognition can therefore be defined as the knowledge and control people have over their thinking
and learning activities. It involves thinking about thinking that is to say, the knowledge and control
people have their own thinking and learning activities.
In relation to the acquisition of critical thinking skills, meta cognition refers to what a learner knows
about his/her thinking processes, (conscious awareness) and the ability to control these processes by
planning, choosing and monitoring. Literally, therefore, meta cognition means big thinking .
EXAMPLES OF SOCIAL STUDIES SOLVING PROCESS.
Problem solving process in social studies is defined as cognitive processing that is mental functioning
and thinking directed at achieving a goal when a solution method is obvious to the problem solver.
The processes or steps involved in problem solving are;
(1) Definition or identification of problem.
(2) Analyze the problem (determine or guess the

The Bill Becomes A Law Essay
The process in which a bill becomes a law can be a lengthy one; it must go through many steps in
order to become the law of the land. It is believed that this process should be a matter that every
American citizen should be informed of in order to fully understand and appreciate the inner workings
of congress with regard to The House of Representatives and the Senate. The steps in which a bill
becomes a law is an example of the democratic way of life here in The United States. The fact that a
proposal cannot become a law without consideration and approval by both houses of congress is an
outstanding virtue of our bicameral legislative system. (Maes 1 2) Anyone can create a bill not just a
member of congress. Any citizen, group or organization can draw up a bill just from an idea. The right
to petition is guaranteed by the first amendment. These bills are usually written in the form of a letter.
It is estimated that more then 15,000 bills are introduced to The House of Representatives and the
Senate each year. Each one is then assigned to a committee after it is given a number. Twenty two of
these committees belong to The House of Representatives and fifteen to the Senate. There are four
types of committees, they are; the Standing Committee, The Select Committee, The Conference

  • 2. What Is Luck Is A Matter Of Preparation Meeting Opportunity Oprah Winfrey once said, Luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity. What Oprah means by this statement is that hard work and effort are the key to meeting opportunity. When someone succeeds and another fails, it is not because of how lucky either of them were, but how much of an effort each of them had made. I agree with Oprah Winfrey because hard work and effort are more important. First, opportunity is rare to come by making it better to have the experience of taking. Experience gives people an advantage over the other, the more of it one has, the better their chances. For example, Oprah Winfrey went through countless interviews while working for small television companies and every time she failed she only gained the experience in doing better next time. Now look at her, she is one of the riches women in the world living the dream life. Gaining experience allows us to expand our perception of what we see. The bigger our viewpoint is the more ideas we develop and the greater an asset we become, increasing the chances of being successful. Second, preparation, it can only be beneficial and advantageous. Preparation increases the chances of being successful. Furthermore there is no harm in being prepared. For example, studying for a test will increase the odds of gaining a ... This is why we need the motive to work whether it may be internal motivation or external motivation it does not matter. Motivation allows us to work towards our goals slowly making them into ... • 3. Finance At The University Of Florida Page 1: Personal Reflection 1. I am studying Finance at the University of Florida because not only do I have a creative side but an intellectual side of me too. Crazily, mathematics comes naturally to me and is also a huge concept in finance, but finance isn t just numbers, it incorporates various aspects such as communication, problem solving, and creativity. Finance unites my limitless passion for math and joins it with some of my personality traits, which is the best of both worlds. More specifically, in my upbringing, money was tight and my parents always stressed when facing financial issues. My background catalyzed my admiration to the effect the power of money holds when used properly. Finding the best financial effects and awareness of all options to make well informed financial decisions to assist an individual or a company in the most beneficial way seems rewarding and intriguing to me. So, all of these elements have directed me into my interest in Finance. 2. Ideally, successful, inspired, independent, and skilled are just a few ideas that describe my picture perfect image of what I imagine of my life 5 years ahead of today. After I receive my bachelor s degree in Finance I plan to pursue higher education in a Master s program for Finance. I would love to do my Master s at a high profile school ranging from University of Florida to New York University. A vision I ve always had of myself is that I would accomplish to be a business woman that works for a huge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Camouf In this essay, we ll look further into the adaption trait of camouflage. Camouflage has been an adaptation that has evolved in many species of animals to help them escape the threat of predators. When considering an intelligent way to avoid being eaten, camouflage seems to be a winning trait that would certainly be passed down to subsequent generations of offspring. Examples of camouflage in nature are wide ranging and found in animals of almost every biosphere on the planet. Some specific examples of animals that use camouflage are: scorpion fish that change colors to match their surroundings, the walking stick which looks nearly identical to a twig on a tree, and perhaps the most noticeable and talked about in recent history, the peppered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because the ability to evade predators is a matter of life and death in the animal kingdom, camouflage has evolved due to natural selection (National Geographic, 2013). Going back to the famous case of the peppered moths: this particular indecent of fast acting natural selection was a well documented example of animals in the wild changing their color through offspring in order to survive. During the late 1800 s while the industrial revolution was in full stride, British scientist noticed that the normally lite colored peppered moths stood out very noticeable against the soot covered trees (National Geographic, 2013). Because the environment had changed, birds were able to more easily find and eat the lighter moths, and thus a rare, dark colored peppered moth became much more common as they were more camouflage than their white counter parts (National Geographic, 2013). This may seem like a coincidence, whoever, once Britain started to clean its air and produced less soot, the moths more common color went back to being white. This strongly supports that animals with the best camouflage survive in greater numbers, and thus pass those traits on to offspring who also stand a better chance of survival. As camouflage is an adaptation that occurs across many species and different groups in the same habitat it is considered an analogous trait. Analogous traits are those that occur because ... • 6. Do Not Assume Who I Am By My Appearance Essay Do Not Assume Who I Am By My Appearance Nowadays, stereotypes seem to be the way we justify and categorize society. It can also be said that stereotypes are one way in which we define the world in order to see it. Because, if the world isn t defined, then how can we as people, grasp the concept of it? How do we justify our action, and those of others? People often, prejudge others or objects by grouping them into categories or styles they are familiar with, and then treat them by their experiences or just follow what other people usually do, without questioning their actions and motives. That causes miscommunication, argument or losing opportunities to broaden the life experience. Stereotypes are usually formed based on an individual s appearance, race, and gender that would put labels on people. The appearance of a person in general is one of the most important causes of stereotypes. People usually tend to stereotype a person from what they see and think. In Brent Staples Just Walk On By: A Black Man Ponders His Power to Alter Public Space, he experienced a certain stereotype from a white woman because of his appearance. He explained, To her, the youngish black man a broad six feet two inches with a bread and billowing hair, both hands shoved into the pockets of a bulky military jacket seemed menacing close (Staples 394). That white woman labeled Staples as a dangerous person who might hurt her, so she ran away as soon as she could. In other words, people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Essay about Why Marijuana Should Be Legalized Marijuana s illegalization has always been erroneous. Early in the 1900s, a surge of Mexicans immigrated to the U.S., and the marijuana they brought with them was quickly associated with them. In the 1930s, tensions between white Americans and Mexican immigrants were heightened due to the Great Depression, and the use of marijuana was ultimately prohibited for the general public in 1937 with the Marijuana Tax Act ( Marijuana Timeline ). By the 1960s, marijuana became a symbol of counterculture, and the government stopped any research involved with its properties. In 1971, President Richard Nixon began the War on Drugs, and marijuana was dragged into it. Nixon assigned a commission to review the danger marijuana possesses, and the ... Since marijuana is readily available, and there is research to confirm its medical uses, there is no reason not to use it. Opponents of the use of medical marijuana argue that it could have unintended societal consequences. Robert L. DuPont of the National Institute on Drug Abuse argues that teen attitudes to marijuana are linked to medical marijuana laws, and that medical marijuana would normalize drug use ( Teen Drug Use ). This is not true. The Institute of Medicine was asked to conduct a study on medical marijuana by the White House. The IOM concluded that, among other things, the use of medical marijuana would not increase recreational usage rates of marijuana (Koch). Since this organization is clearly reputable, there is enough evidence that the legalization medical marijuana wouldn t affect the general population s use of marijuana in any way. • 9. Theme Of Courage In Beowulf In the epic poem, Beowulf, the main character, Beowulf, can be seen as one of the most prime and pure examples of an epic hero due to his almighty courage. What is an epic hero without courage? Well, not a epic hero at all. Beowulf has the superhuman strength, glory and fame, but he cannot embody those characteristics if he does not have courage to drive him primarily. Initially, the reader can get a taste of Beowulf epicness when he heavily boasts about his battle at sea with Breca. Due to jealousy, Unferth calls him out for his loss in the thrashing waves, yet Beowulf shows no embarrassment and even exploits Unferth for his lack of braveness as he claims, The fact is, Unferth, if you were truly as keen and courageous as you claim to be, Grendel would never have gotten away with such unchecked atrocity, attacks on your king, havoc in Heorot and horror everywhere (Heaney 590 594). He makes it clear that no one can deteriorate or match the courage that he beholds. While he the battle is brought up, Beowulf states that Often, for undaunted courage, fate spares a man that it has not already marked (572 573). This is inferring that if one hasn t died yet due to fate, they can continue living their life through courage. This foreshadows the mindset of Beowulf and how he holds the theory of bravery close in his morals. Many continue going about their day to day lives not realizing those forgettable people we threw to the side were once children that could have been helped if we had just taken the extra time and concern. Those people could have had the chance to live up to their full potential and perhaps could have changed the world. Children who live in poverty are subjected to such things as lower education attainment as well as low earning potential. Poverty stricken children are more likely to be raised in poor neighborhood environments, have less access to food, minimal access to health care, and a toll can be taken on their emotional and behavioral development. So what could be the cause of a child living in poverty? There is only one answer to that question and that is INCOME . It was proposed by the 38th congress of the United States and passed by the senate on 8th April 1864 before being adopted on the 6th of December in 1865 following the announcement of the secretary of state who declared it to have been adopted. Cotton which was grown by slaves contributed to more than half of the export earnings of the United States before the abolition of slave trade. Slaves were the best and cheap forms of labor in most of the plantations as it allowed the plantation owners to increase production at lower costs. Slave trade had been an integral part of southern America and the abolition of slave trade through the thirteenth amendment destroyed the foundations of the southern economy because most of the slaves worked in agricultural fields in the south. Following the ratification of the 13th amendment, agricultural output declined which was followed by the subsequent reduction in income. Slave trade was important in agricultural, mining and construction industries as well as factories which were of significant impact to the southern economy (Engerman 192). Since most of the slaves in the southern region moved up the northern region after the abolition of slave trade, this created a huge gap in the workforce of the southern region which strained the southern region. As a result the south printed huge amounts of money which caused inflation and subsequently plunged the region into debt. This region could not recover from the debts because it could not receive any foreign aid. In the aftermath of slave abolition, there was reduced demand for cotton which was a main source of revenue in the south which limited the region s ability ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Film American History X The film American History X begins with an average American middle class family; four well behaved children and two all American parents living in Long Beach, California. The father is killed in a shooting, leaving his eldest son, Derek, the head of the household. Derek becomes enveloped in Neo Nazi culture from the end of his adolescent years into early adulthood, and he becomes the leader of a gang. At this point, his younger brother, Danny, is an adolescent and begins mimicking his older brother s behavior. But the turning point of the movie is when Derek is convicted for murdering a black man and serves three years in prison. This film is primarily an example of moral growth, ontological shock, and choosing what kind of influence one wants to project onto others. Derek realizes that he is going to be held accountable for all of the viewpoints he has endorsed to others, that with drastic actions come drastic consequences, and that autonomy is a powerful force when fueled with willpower. The importance of social influence is a strong theme to American History X, which is why I think Lev Vygostky s socio cultural theories surrounding cognitive development can explain the film s meaning well. According to Vygotsky, the interactions a person has between the environment and other human beings determines the learning that takes place. The type of environment that a child grows up in also greatly affects a person throughout life, as well. Vygostky also believed that tutors ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. How Did The Us Achieve Latin America s Goals The United States had many ways to try and achieve it s goals in Latin America. The United States Congress passed the Foraker Act, which established a civil government in Puerto Rico. This act authorized the President of the U.S. to appoint a governor and part of the Puerto Rican island legislature. The U.S. established Cuban as a protectorate. The Treaty of Paris granted Cuba its independence, but the U.S. Army didn t want to withdraw from the island until the year 1902. The Platt Amendment restricted the rights of newly independent Cubans and effectively brought the island with the U.S. sphere. This amendment prevented Cuba from signing a treaty with another nation without American approval. It also allowed the U.S. the right to intervene to preserve order in Cuba. Cuba eventually agreed with the Platt Amendment and added it to it s constitution. This treaty made Cuba a protectorate of the U.S. and governed their relationship for many years. Theodore Roosevelt developed a policy for the U.S. action in Latin America. It is called big stick diplomacy because it depended on a strong military to help achieve America s goals. ... • 26. The Perspective of Plato and Aristotle on the Value of... The Perspective of Plato and Aristotle on the Value of Art As literary critics, Plato and Aristotle disagree profoundly about the value of art in human society. Plato attempts to strip artists of the power and prominence they enjoy in his society, while Aristotle tries to develop a method of inquiry to determine the merits of an individual work of art. It is interesting to note that these two disparate notions of art are based upon the same fundamental assumption: that art is a form of mimesis, imitation. Both philosophers are concerned with the artist s ability to have significant impact on others. It is the imitative function of art which promotes disdain in Plato and curiosity in Aristotle. Examining the reality that art ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Art is removed from any notion of real truth, an inherently flawed copy of an already imperfect world. Art as an imitation is irrelevant to what is real. Aristotle approaches reality from a completely different premise. While his ideas do stand in sharp contrast to Plato s, they are not simply a refutation of his former mentor s views. To Aristotle, the world exists in an infinitely diverse series of parts. These various parts are open to human observation and scrutiny. Rather than an eternally regressing truth beyond the scope of human apprehension, knowledge of truth and good are rooted firmly in the observable universe; truth, or at least gestures toward it, lies in existence rather than essence. Aristotle encourages embracing the particular in order to possibly gain a sense of the universal. There is, however, no universal system of inquiry to investigate each part of the whole. Different parts require different methods of discourse. In The Poetics, Aristotle attempts to articulate a method of inquiry, not a rigid system or standard of evaluation, applicable to tragedy. Tragedy attempts to imitate the complex world of human actions, and yet tragedy is itself still part of a larger, more complicated world of human existence. Tragedy is a ... • 27. Importance Of The Lower Class In A Connecticut Yankee In... In A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court, written by Mark Twain, there exists a clear incongruence between nobility and the lower class. While knights and landlords live lavishly without a concern for acquiring basic necessities, peasants often struggle to feed themselves and their families. With so few individuals holding such a large portion of the wealth, a vast gap between the rich and the poor plagues society. For the most part, King Arthur remains completely oblivious to these issues that the lower class faces every day. He ineffectively governs, failing to consider the needs of all people. King Arthur s interactions with the lower class and his inability to understand peasants lifestyles demonstrate the flaws of the monarchy system. Hank, on one hand, wants to infiltrate the lower class so that he can observe first hand the effects of his innovations on the lifestyle of the common man. In contrast, the king goes along simply for the purpose of enjoyment. Hank narrates, When I told the king I was going out disguised as a petty freeman to scour the country and familiarize myself with the humbler life of the people, he was all afire with the novelty of the thing in a minute, and was bound to take a chance in the adventure himself (Twain 150). The Cold War changed histrionically from each administration change that every nation faced during these long time periods. • 30. The Importance Of Juvenile Delinquency Juvenile delinquency is an issue that remains troublesome since it is in direct correlation with adult crime. While the age crime curve, which is universal in Western populations remains constant, persistence in terms of criminal behavior seems higher for individuals who start early in life (NIJ, N.A.). Since girls tend to start offending at a younger age, they should receive more attention in terms of prevention but they do not (NIJ, N.A.). Selecting female juvenile delinquency as an issue since it should receive more attention than it has been granted in the past seems adequate. Girls enter a system that was created by men for men and lacks of appropriate programs and initiatives for a population that requires it. The lack of gender responsive programs and consideration for criminal pathways make this issue important to analyze. In the past, girls have been considered as deviant for a multitude of different aspects, whether it is related to their sexuality, their mental instability or their refusal to adhere to their social roles. We now see a trend where girls commit similar crime than boys, while they remain less violent, they have expanded in the participation in criminal behavior. Thus, the US government adopted a policy of doing its best to contain Communism around the world, especially in Asia after the formation of the People s Republic of China (PRC). • 34. Traditional Methods Of Managing Personal Income There are three traditional methods of managing personal income. 1. Budgeting, 2. Keeping a spending history, and 3. Doing nothing (also known as living from paycheck to paycheck). Budgeting involves setting what percent of future income is to be spent on which categories of expenses, and then recording all purchases in order to track how well spending is staying within the predefined limits. The process sounds very simple, however, it is difficult, in my opinion, to stick with a budget for very long. The energy and dedication needed to keep track of where the money goes is tremendous. I ve tried budgeting on several occasions and failed miserably because I couldn t stomach keeping track of every penny I spent. Traditional budgets also tend to fail because the setting of rigid spending limits does not lend itself well to being flexible. When unforeseen expenses pop up, a budget can be rendered useless very quickly. It s my experience that budgets can feel like monetary straight jackets that are soon abandoned. Spending Histories A Vicious Cycle Keeping a spending history also involves the recording of every penny spent. The intent is to use the spending history as a basis for identifying spending habits that can be improved and then making needed changes to future spending patterns. The main weakness of keeping a spending history is that it is focused on past activity and, therefore, is of little help when a person is trying to make immediate decisions about ... It is at this first stage of production at the plantation where the most exploitation of workers takes place. As an article about workers rights in Ecuador says, people are not seen as being as important as the final product (Astorga 2). Because a lot of banana exporting countries have monoculture economies, most of the countries depend on jobs and income from banana producers. Most of these jobs are contracts too resulting in only temporary work. Not surprisingly, 10 cents of every dollar spent on Chiquita bananas stays in the production process (Wiley 71). Banana workers are notorious for being paid dismal wages; it should be no surprise that profits benefit the powerfully rich fruit companies not plantation workers. Ecuador , in particular, is known for paying the lowest wages because there are few unions. The average daily wage in Ecuador is $2 in contrast to $9 in Costa Rica (STITCH), allowing Ecuador to sell boxes of bananas for cheaper. With no unions, Chiquita does not pay health insurance, overtime pay or money for education. For most banana workers the threat of being fired triumphs the promises of unions, simply because Chiquita would not be profitable without cheap labor. With the synergies expected, the value to CPP increases by $14.6 Million (see exhibit 4). Generally for the particular small firms to maintain rating of A, the firms have to maintain a debt service ratio of 6. Hence it is practical to assume interest coverage ratio of 6.0x in the long term for Pinkerton in this case. Pinkerton gets benefit from 34% tax shield, which account for the value of $15.4 Million (see exhibit 5). Therefore, as calculated in exhibit 6, the total value of Pinkerton from 3 sources to CPP in expected case is $119.7 Million. This is higher than the $100 million asking price. Financing: Free cash flow after debt service is still positive in both options. For the value to existing shareholder, as option 1 CPP gives premium of $15.2 Million over $25 Million for 45% stake of CPP to investors, option 2 of $100 Million Debt would be more preferable. Pessimistic Case Valuation: We then perform the valuation exactly the same method as expected case. The value of Pinkerton with less gross margin and more working capital needed is $67.1 Million (See exhibit 9 for 5 years valuation and exhibit 10 for terminal value). With lower performance, the value of 34% tax shield is also lower to $10.8 Million (see exhibit 12). • 39. The Social Studies Problem Solving Processes Essay ) What is meta cognition in social studies? Using three examples explain the social studies problem solving processes. Meta cognition in social studies is said to be the ability to use prior knowledge to plan a strategy for approaching a learning task, take necessary steps to problem solving, reflect and evaluate results and modify one s approach as needed. It can also be said to be awareness of one s own knowledge, what one does and doesn t know, and one s ability to understand, control and manipulate one s cognitive processes. Meta cognition can therefore be defined as the knowledge and control people have over their thinking and learning activities. It involves thinking about thinking that is to say, the knowledge and control people have their own thinking and learning activities. In relation to the acquisition of critical thinking skills, meta cognition refers to what a learner knows about his/her thinking processes, (conscious awareness) and the ability to control these processes by planning, choosing and monitoring.
