The Use Of Lichen And Its Effect On The Environment
Lichens are widely distributed in many different areas and can be found inhabited within harsh
habitats such as dry arid hot deserts and freezing mountain tops. Environmental factors such as
temperature, sun exposure levels, and the pH levels of soil influence the growth of Lichens. Their
natural structure and symbiotic relationship with fungus and a photosynthetic partner has given
these organisms the ability to survive such harsh and exposed environments. Their ability to absorb
substances and minerals dissolved in rain and dew has also enabled Lichento live and survive in
such extreme areas, but this ability has had the effect of making them very sensitive to pollutants
in the air; and therefore cannot survive in polluted areas such as the city because of automobile
traffic such as cars, and industrial activity. Lichen can be found growing within soil, on the
surface layer of rocks, and most commonly, they are found growing on the bark of trees (Raven et
al. 2010, p. 626 627).
The graph above shows that the south aspect of most of the trees in Campbelltown Campus had the
greatest surface area of lichen coverage on the tree trunk, compared to the other aspects (east, north
and west). The east aspect had the second highest average cell count of lichen coverage. The north
and west aspects had a similar cell count which varied by a small amount, with the north aspect
having the lowest amount of lichen coverage, and the west being the second lowest.

Essay about Vincent Van Gogh
Vincent Willem van Gogh Vincent Willem van Gogh was born on March 30th 1853, in Zundert,
The Netherlands. Van Gogh spent his teenage year s working for a firm of art dealers; however,
he did not embark upon his art career until 1880. Originally, he worked only with dark and
gloomy colors, until he came across the art movements developed in Paris known as,
Impressionism and Neo Impressionism (Meier Graefe 4). Van Gogh than included their brighter
colors and unique style of painting into his very own creations. He produced more than 2,000
works, including around 900 paintings and 1,100 drawings and sketches, during the last ten years
of his life (Meier Graefe 10). However, most of his best known works were produced in his last...

High doses of thujone will also cause a person to see objects in yellow, which may also be the
reason why he loved the color yellow. Yet, due to Van Gogh s extreme commitment to religion,
and enthusiastic speed in this art pieces, many doctors also assumed Van Gogh could have been
bipolar. Van Gogh s episodes were always followed by exhaustion, and depression, and
eventually suicide (Meier Graefe 46). Therefore, bipolar may be a logical reason of Van Gogh s
mental condition. Though, there may have been many arguments of Gogh s mental condition,
there is still a final agreement that throughout his Van Gogh still created intriguing art for the
world to see. One of Van Gogh s most famous paintings is The Starry Night. Although, Van Gogh
sold only one painting in his life, the aftermath of his work is enormous (Schapiro 31). Widely
known as his greatest piece of work, the painting has been reproduced several times and is one of
his most famous paintings. Van Gogh however, was not satisfied with this painting, in a letter to
his brother Theo from Saint Remy he states, In all this batch I think nothing at all good save the
field of wheat, the mountain, the orchard, the olives with the blue hills and the portrait and the
entrance to the Quarry, and the rest says nothing to me, because it lacks individual intention and
feeling in the lines. Where these lines are close and deliberate it begins to be a picture, even if it is

Essay On Post Operative Risk Management
What pre/peri/post operative risk management strategies will you utilize with this patient and why?
Female patients diagnosed with anxiety, depression and past chronic pain are at increased risk of
developing chronic post surgical pain (1). Studies have shown high preoperative anxiety and
female gender are the two major risk factors of developing acute postoperative and post chronic
surgical pain (1). Several strategies can be used to reduce the patient s anxiety and the incidence of
developing acute post operative chronic pain. At the consultation appointment, the clinician should
address patient s attitudes and concerns, educate the patient on the dental procedure, and identify
the procedures that are likely to cause severe pain (1).
Studies show chronic post surgical pain is associated with poor surgical technique, increased time
of surgery, and operations with high risk of nerve injury (1). One may consider the use of cone
beam topography to map the inferior alveolar nerve and its proximity to the tooth in question. This
patient should also be treated by an oral surgeon as they are highly trained and efficient in
exodontia. The surgeon should use conservative surgical approach with acceptable exposure, and
multimodal pharmacological analgesic in addition to local anesthesia (1). Also, due to her history

to understand the societies that they lived in. By going to an general idea of Spartan and Athenian
culture one can see how women were treated and viewed. Then in return contrast the difference of
what rights and opportunities were entitled to the women of Sparta and Athens. Studying the role
of women is no different then when studying men simply identity their rights, opportunities, and

The haemostatic system is a process that keeps the blood in balance between bleeding and
thrombosis. In a healthy individual, blood is maintained in a stable flowing state and is able to
rapidly form a haemostatic plug that will prevent unrestricted bleeding when a vessel is ruptured.

COAGULATION
Coagulation is a process where there is a blood clot formation at the site of an injured blood vessel.
Once there has been an injury to the blood vessel wall, vasoconstriction immediately occurs, and
then we get primary haemostasis. Platelet activation occurs in this process and they adhere to the
subendothelial complex. There is a formation of fibrin in this process and this leads to a
haemostatic plug being formed at the site of injury. Secondary haemostasis also occurs
simultaneously with primary haemostasis. In this process, tissue factors are involved in the
initiation of the coagulation cascade. The end result of the coagulation cascade is the activation of
thrombin. Thrombin is an important enzyme in haemostasis as it is needed for the conversion of
fibrinogen to an insoluble fibrin monomer to form the matrix of the clot and also it is important for
further platelet activation. (Khan and Dickerman, 2006; Hoffman, 2003; Clemetson, 2012; Arnout

The Influence Of Chicken Katsu In Hawaiian Culture
Food is a enormous aspect of hawaiian culture. Due to the influences of incoming voyagers
bringing new and more agricultural diversity Hawaiian foods shifted and changed. Resulting in
the increasing agriculture there was a higher demand from plantation workers. Plate lunch then
became an important aspect of hawaiian culture providing a quick easy lunch for plantation
workers and many others. Plate lunch is still a very well known and loved dish today in Hawaii
and is slowly making its way to the mainland. More specifically chicken katsu is usually a
favorable option on a common plate lunch. Chicken katsu which originated in Japan has changed
and influenced plate lunch and hawaiian culture. Chicken katsu is a delicious Japanese dish
invented in 1899. Katsu is short for katsuretsu the Japanese transliteration for cutlet. It consists of
breaded, deep fried, chicken cutlet a couple centimeters thick. In Japan it is served with a
tonkatsu sauce, shredded cabbage, rice and/or miso soup. It is also commonly served with rice
and a silky curry. In a typical Hawaiian plate lunch chicken katsu is served with a scoop of
macaroni salad and rice.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

project. There are so many things that are foreign to this island that changed and influences the
whole Hawaiian culture. Pineapples, ukuleles, majority of food, so many things loved about
hawaiian culture are from everywhere else. Like a lot of people and things in these islands,
banyan are imports from somewhere else. (page 1 paragraph

Biomechanical Analysis Introduction
Introduction to Biomechanics
October 10, 2014
The game of soccer is often called the world s game and the greatest sport ever to be played. Here
in America, soccer is the nation s game and only popular when one of the national teams is playing
in the World Cup or Olympics. While the sport is gaining popularity, Americans would rather play
and watch football and baseball. The slower paced, timeout centered sports such as football and
baseball give teams moments to regroup. In soccer there are hardly any pauses in a forty five
minute half where a team can have a few moments to take a breath before continuing play. A corner
kick is one of the ways of restarting play in the game of soccer and regrouping as a team. When
the ball is played out of bounds and last touched by a defending player, the attacking team is
awarded with a corner kick. This brief pause in the game allows the attacking team to regroup
and an opportunity for them to score a goal. A corner kick is taken from the nearest corner of the
field where the ball exited. The soccer ball is placed inside the arc, where the goal line and
sideline intersect. The attacking player kicks the soccer ball towards the group of attackers and
defenders that are swarmed around the goal. This is the optimal goal scoring opportunity for the
attack team. By placing the ball in the right place, the attacking team has the opportunity to score.

Franco Spainco Research Paper
After World War Two, Francisco Franco took control of Spain and greatly impacted the people with
an extreme fascist government. Fascism is defined as an authoritarian nationalistic system of
government and social organization (Passmore), which was how Franco ran his government, taking
complete control and doing many extreme things that took away the country s culture and diversity,
leaving it very isolated. Franco s fascist government profoundly impacted the people because of the
establishment of a totalitarian regime and the severe political repression that it caused in the
country. The fascist government under Francisco Francoled Spainto become an isolated and hated

state, which in accordance with its tradition is constituted as a Kingdom. The Head of the State
is the chieftain of the crusade and the Generalissimo of Armies, Don Francisco Franco y
Bahamonde (Francisco Franco). The very first article of this decree states that Francisco Franco
holds all power and everything should be done his way. It even states that Spain is constituted as
a Kingdom , meaning it is directly and completely ruled by a king, or Franco himself. He runs the
military, the government, and watches everything the people do. It is also suggesting that Spain
is catholic, but it does not speak of any other religion, which is an example of an extreme
limitation he put on the people, impacting the culture of the country. Franco isolated the people by
putting many restrictions on them, such as banning foreign languages and creating a secret police
network to spy on the people (History 2). Francisco Franco took a totalitarian government system
to another level and took away the cultural diversity of the country. Not only did he forbid cultural
diversity with the law, but he also took an extra step to make sure that the citizens were obeying
him by using secret spies. If his rules were not followed, then there were severe consequences, that
vary from just getting tried in court all the way to execution. All in all, Franco ran an extreme
totalitarian government because of his political, social, and cultural restrictions of the

Examples Of Annotated Bibliography
What is an annotated bibliography? When and why is it used? Also, what are in text citations and
why do we use them? These are a few questions that we will be addressing in this paper, in addition
to many other questions about these topics. Let us start by defining an annotated bibliography. As
mentioned by Bullock et. al, an annotated bibliographydescribes and gives publication information
for, and sometimes evaluate each work on a list of sources. (p.66) Additionally, an in text citationis
defined as a reference made within the body of text of an academic essay ( What is an in text
citation? , para. 1) We will discover their purpose, why they are important, how to construct them,
and when to use them. The purpose of an annotated bibliographyis to inform the reader of the
relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited. ( Annotated Bibliography, 2007) It can be

al, 2017) It can be written in different ways, for example, if the author is mentioned in the sentence,
you would put just the page number in parenthesis, e.g. (263). If not, the parenthesis would include
the authors last name and page number, e.g. (Wordsworth 263). Additionally, there are many
guidelines depending on the type of source, what information is available, etc. Therefore, it is best
to research certain types of citations when you come across them.
In conclusion, we learned that the purpose of an annotated bibliography is to summarize or analyze
the source used for your research. Additionally, having an annotated bibliography has many
benefits. One example is the assistance in developing the proper thesis statement for your paper.
With the extensive summaries or analyzations, you can use this information to choose the right path
for your essay. The length and format of your annotated bibliography is dependent on the style you
chose as well as instructions given for the

Analysis Of Get On The Balcony By Ronald A. Linsky
Get on the Balcony by Ronald A. Heifetz and Marty Linsky brings a lot in perspective especially
when thinking about how to approach leadership in a class that focuses on us as a person and
how we recognize certain things within and without. One of my favorite examples that was
used was the dance floor scenario, it brings a lot into perspective when thinking deeper into
matters. Sometimes by being on the dance floor you miss a lot of details and minor things that
you would only be able to catch by being on the balcony. If we think of life as a dance floor it
because very easy to relate the situation to what so often happens to us. We sometimes become so
focused on what is going on with us, how to keep ourselves afloat, worry about those closest to us...

They were more focused on who was winning the game, the bets they had made, the nice warm

having that opportunity to have that balcony view. The authors capture a very important point,
But if you had gone up to the balcony and looked down on the dance floor, you might have seen a
very different picture. You would have noticed all sorts of patterns (Heifetz and Linsky 3). In our
class I think it will be important to sometimes take that step back as a participant and try to
understand things from a different view. Learning how to step outside our comfortable comfort zone
and not just trying to see things how we expect they should be but allowing the reality of things to
impact how we relate and interact in the community. Learning that certain discussions and opinions

How Does Ninotchka Relate To Capitalism
Ninotchka: Capitalism over Communism
The film from 1939, Ninotchka, the comedy drama directed by Ernst Lubitsch shows how the
culture and attitude was towards Soviets and follows an underlying political issue about whether
communism is better than capitalism and vice versa. Ninotchka was made during a turbulent time
in history. It was released during the second World War, not long after Hitler had invaded Poland.
In Europe, the year of the film s release, World War II had broke out and the foreign market for
movies was waning. Mussolini had also said that Italy would be entering the war in that year. The

Ninotchka was made during a very integral part of history and shows some key historical aspects
and cultural aspects of the time period. This film reverses gender roles through the character of
Ninotchka and shows how sexuality was becoming more and more overt in films and
regulations becoming more lax on it because people wanted to see more overt sexuality.
Ninotchka was released just as World War II was starting. The theme of the film was also very
important because it explored the different aspects of the capitalist system versus the communist
system while portraying the capitalist system in a more favorable light. However it makes a
joke out the communist system through its portrayal of the three comrades and their behavior.
It addresses a major issues and takes a stand against it while also doing so in a comical way. For
these reasons, the film, Ninotchka had a very significant political meaning because of the time
period it was released and the risk it was taking against Russia who was a much needed ally. It
also shows the culture of the time period and how people were feared the threat of communism
and the influence it might have on their country. Ninotchka was able to encompass all of these
aspects and was able to portray it in a way that was enjoyable but was also very persuasive in
showing why capitalism is more favorable than

traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a type of anxiety disorder acquired when a person becomes a
victim of some form of trauma. Trauma can come in the form of experiencing natural disasters
such as hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, or floods. Personal traumas such as being robbed,
assaulted, raped, physically or sexually abused, or tortured can cause PTSD. Those who have
suffered extreme illness such as Cancer and AIDS may experience it. And even those who have
watched their loved ones suffer through extreme illnesses can succumb to the disorder. They
suffer what is called a secondary trauma. It has even been recently discovered that someone
viewing media coverage of a traumatic event can even get PTSD. There were people viewing

cells of all three germ layers. Due to the great replicative powers of these cells, they may be used
to treat degenerative diseases, or injuries to the nervous system. However, as these ES cells are
extracted from blastocysts, an ethical dilemma arises, not to mention potential rejection of foreign
bodies in patients. Typically, in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The 24 candidate genes were then introduced to mouse embryonic fibroblast(MEF); when grown,
no single candidate was capable of activating the Fbx15 locus. Conversely when all 24
candidates were expressed Yamanaka and Takahashi were able to obtain multiple G418 resistant
colonies. The experiment was repeated, and six colonies were chosen. Out of these six, four
displayed morphology and proliferation properties which were highly similar to ES cells. Reverse
transcriptase PCR(RTPCR) revealed several ES cell markers, and further analysis provided evidence
that it was a combination of some of the 24 factors which induced pluripotency.
To find the specific combination required to induce pluripotency, Yamanaka and Takahashi
observed the effect of removing certain factors. A total of ten factors were noted to have critical
effect on the early growth of cells; removal of any of these ten factors resulted in no colony growth
within the first ten days of culturing. Furthermore, when these ten genes were combined, Yamanaka
and Takahashi noted that the resulting cells were more similar to ES cells than cells with all 24
factors were transduced. Out of these ten factors, further factors were withdrawn; when factors Oct
Вѕ or Klf4 were removed no G418 resistant colonies formed. Moreover, when Sox2 was removed
minimal colonies formed. While resistant colonies still formed despite the removal of c Myc, the
colonies had a distorted morphology from regular ES cells (Figure 1). The

THE CONTEXT OF TALENT MANAGEMENT
As South Africa embarks on it s journey into the second decade of democracy, few can argue that
tremendous strides have been made on the political, economic, social and legislative fronts. Much
of our legislation and policy directions are amongst the most progressive in the world. However,
many challenges remain. One of these is the shortage of professional and managerial skills and the
imbalances in terms of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This manifests itself at 2 levels. Firstly, firms soon reach a state of overload. Deadlines are
missed, standards and quality of work drop and a vicious cycle emerges and feeds on itself. This
is a very common phenomenon with small and medium sized professional firms. They do not
have the capacity to manage their growth or the peaks and valleys associated with the modern
business world. Secondly, the firm is so consumed with meeting operational deadlines that it loses
it s ability to keep up to date with latest best practice, legislation or other issues demanding new
skills. In this case clients will soon recognise that mistakes are made due to lack of currency of
skills. These are some of the more visible risks to firms who do not pay attention to the attraction,
growth and retention of key talent. Beyond the visible, other manifestations of the problem arise.
Staff morale declines because leadership talent is absent and this energy drop is transferred to the
client. Internal politics and protection of territory or unwillingness to share information and surface
problems affect the functioning of the firm. All of these things affect the ability of the organisation
to offer great service and take advantage of opportunities to grow.

Challenges Facing Urban Sprawl And Inner City Poverty
voice of the people and leaves staff and administration struggling to find suitable solutions in a fixed
budget.
Public choice theory supports the theory that fragmented municipal structures generate savings
because they allow individuals to make their own choices about services and taxes (L.G.C, pg.
155). This can lead to greater issues of urban sprawl and inner city poverty as the larger municipality
becomes more fragmented.
Key Purpose: Equity
When examining equity and equality in a fragmented municipal structure, serious concerns can be
raised in regards to inequalities to income, economic opportunity and quality of life (L.G.C, pg.
161). It is sadly ironic that suburb residents avoid the social costs of the inner city, but yet, the inner
city residents are subsidizing the expensive projects in the suburbs like infrastructure and water
/sewer lines (L.G.C, pg. 161).
Solutions for equity issues can be successfully addressed in other ways than restructuring. Issues
such as spillover overs and externalities are often amplified when urban and rural municipalities
with varying service standards are brought together. Vojinovic emphasizes that if the different levels
of services among merging municipalities is not recognized and built into the tax structure,
externalities can result in residents businesses can be paying for services that do not benefit them
(L.G.C, pg. 163).
Conflict
A disadvantage to amalgamation is inter municipal disagreements and turf wars

The Consequences Of Jutigment In Twelve Angry Men
In society, we have an obligation to our community to defend it by using judgment to determine a
person s innocence or guilt. It is a civic responsibility to make an informed decision that is
determined based on evidence to help come to a logical conclusion. This essay argues that
judgment in Twelve Angry Men is addressed by the jurywho think rationally against a 16 year old
kid facing the death sentence.
It looks at the gender and ethnicity of the jury and suggests that the environment the jurors are
placed in forwards their own judgment on themselves, making judgment become an empathetic
experience.
The placement of 12 men in a jury shows inconsistency towards female s input upon what
judgment should be made for the accused. Inserting 12 men together only evokes testosterone
against one another affecting their critical thinking and causing drama. For Juror, 7 judgment is
a fast process and is addressed in the drama as Rose (121) states that, 7th Juror, Listen, I ll tell
you something. I m a little sick of this whole thing already. All this yakkin s gettin us nowhere so
I m going to break it up here. I m changing my vote to not guilty. 11th Juror, What kind of man are
you? You have sat here and voted guilty with everyone else because there are some baseball tickets
burning a hole in your pocket .
The drama is now directed away from the accused of murder and now towards Juror 7 that shows
irony towards the relevance of importance. It is from the example above we see

My First Thoughts Of Buffalo State
My first thoughts of Buffalo State, I had many different ideas on what I should expect. First I
was very excited to step foot in a place that I never been. I love experiencing new places.
Considering I never been to the Buffalo State college or even orientation I expected the best. I
figured the campus be beautiful and very spacy. I researched facts about BuffaloState and I was
very surprised to see how many students attended. I love the fact that the college presented a lot
of diversity. I also expected that the college life would be very social since I asked the former
students of Buffalo State about it. Of course I was a little nervous that there was a little chance
that it May not be anything close to what I expected. The helping hands on the college life I
expected would be top notch since there were so many students living on campus. When I
received the letter that I would be attending the EOP program which I applied for I was very
excited. I wasn t really sure exactly what EOP actually was but I hoped for the best. My mom
gave me a brief description on what the program was. I didn t like the fact that it was three
weeks long and the first thing that came to my mind when I heard that was my summer was
coming to an end quite early. I didn t think too negative about it but I hoped that it gave me all
the tips I needed to know about the college and the college life on campus. I like to think positive

Many Fortune 500 companies have management training programs. A company must always have
the competitive edge over its competitors. These companies must invest in creating curriculums to
help the mangers create motivation in the employees as well as attain the goals set forth by the
corporation. According to the Random House Unabridged Dictionary, managementis the act or

The organization needs to have open communication at all times so the employees feel comfortable
in voicing opinions and complaints. Management must always be motivating the team because of
the highly stressful environment. Motivation comes in the form of verbal praise to monetary
incentives at the end of every month. This is a gear that must be in constant motion to make the
employees happy and efficient.
The final principle is controlling. This is the management function of monitoring performance and
making the necessary changes (Bateman, 2007). Keeping an eye on things is the way to be
absolutely certain that everything is going according to plan. Problems will arise but this is why
the plan executed in the beginning will help to create solutions.
Bank of America, being so large, is monitored all the time. We must adhere to state and federal laws
and regulations. Meetings are done frequently to address issues that are happening around the
United States which may directly or indirectly affect performance. The manager of each team
monitors the individuals with all the high tech screens on their computers. Controlling what can be
controlled and having a contingency plan for when problems occur keep the bank at its high peak
in the financial realm.
The four management principles are applied to all great companies. Planning helps set the stage for
the organizing the team to its appropriate places. Leading generates loyalty, and

American Involvement Of Foreign Affairs Essay
American Involvement In Foreign Affairs
Kennith Raba
For the longest time America has been known to ally with foreign countries, or be involved with
few disputes in other countries. Yes, we need to trade and keep peace. However, what is better
peace or to not be involved at all? Now, is a circumstance where we are stuck in Iraq and Afghan
over issues such as terroristic activities but why did they start? America does have its own gas
storage, not only that but there are areas where oil can be dug up from and bought from within
borders and it could be sold amongst the few of us, instead we bought it from the middle east
and when they fought amongst each other we got involved to keep the trade going, when it was
none of our business. Yes World Peace is a great concept, But it doesn t work, there will always
be problems and trying to fix them only seems to make it worst, American forces should serve to
defend and only attack after we ve been attacked not used to help end civil wars or so on, it s not
our business, and most definitely not our problem but due to us stepping in, it becomes one. From

Misrepresentation Of Women s Role In Mythology
Women play different roles throughout mythology. The Greeks and Romans for example viewed
women as prizes to men, as male s lesser counterparts and with roles that required them to be seen
and not heard. Yet there are Goddesses with stories that tell of their victories, stories that spit in
the face of the standards women were expected to follow. It is easy to assume that strong and
deserving women were simply misrepresented due to the male dominated societies they lived in. It
is no secret that the Roman World was male dominated. The myths we know about today come
from male writers and scholars, and the stories they tell hail from a male dominated society.
Because of this, the role and status of women in Roman society has been misrepresented.

Development started only after there was a significant developer concession to write down a long

Colorado s significant tourist areas, Glenwood Springs and Aspen, are necessary to support the

Though the desire for excitement and adventure lives in everyone, even if the definition for such
things varies for each person, it is safe to say there are some who are more inclined to achieve
their desires rather than watch them pass by. This inclination is a driving force that can, and often
does, lead to disastrous or unnecessary outcomes. In watching Redcrosse in the first canto of
Edmund Spensers, The Faerie Queene, it is seen that humankind can be selfish and inconsiderate
of who or what it may affect. So much so that a sheltered, nursing mother is ultimately killed

what Redcrosse had in mind. Instead of recognizing that he was the intruder and backing out, he

not revolved around such a narrow minded outlook. A family was destroyed by a blatant lack of
judgement and disregard for anything besides a selfish thirst for excitement that could have easily
been obtained without the resulting destruction.
There is no doubt Redcrosse deserved to have excitement and adventure in his life, but how he
obtained this was out of arrogance and ignorance. He caused many lives to be destroyed all

stopping to think about the consequences of his selfishness, Redcrosse led his companions into

Confucianism Influence On Australian Society
Confucianism is a system of philosophical and ethical teachings founded by Confucius. It
explores and teaches a sense of doing what is right, serving their superiors diligently and loyally,
and to display benevolence towards others. It also practices rituals and teaches morals on how we
were created which are aspects that define a belief system to be a religion. Confucianism, in terms of
relating to other countries, does not have a strong connection or relevance to the 21st Century
Australian society in regards to the search for meaning. The only reason that our Australian society

What happens to us after death? What is our purpose in life?), Confucianism doesn t actually
explore the afterlife and that is why it is controversial as to whether it is a religion or not. But in
terms of these big questions and what our purpose in life is, Confucianism teachings explored
very wise, simple concepts such as treat others the way you want to be treated , or If I am
walking with two other men, each of them will serve as my teacher. I will pick out the good
points of the one and imitate them, and the bad points of the other and correct them in myself . It
is many teachings like these that gave Confucius followers a sense of meaning and purpose. When
referring to the Ten desires that dive us , by Hugh Mackay, Confucianism fulfils many of these
desires including, the desire to be taken seriously , Confucianism fulfils this in his teaching of treat
others the way you want to be treated . The desire to connect is in nearly all of Confucius teaching
because they all involve interacting with other people. The desire to be useful, because
Confucianism gives you a purpose in everything you do. Confucianism fulfils so many desires and
this, in a way can relate to not just Australian society but all of society. Large manufacturing and

Giving injections of a drug to children who may not need it would be unnecessary time and money
spent on treatment.
According to bioethicist Arthur L. Caplan, using such drugs to change the height of children
implies it is unacceptable to be short. Whenever you take people on the low end of a distribution
curve and say they have a disorder, you re starting down a slippery slope (Bailey). It is dangerous
to state people who are different have a problem or disorder. If one group is considered abnormal
then more will believe there is something seriously wrong with them. People of short stature often
do not have disorders. Short stature is not a problem, it is just a situation, just like those who are
naturally taller than most. Because these people are being labeled with disorders, they believe the
use of drugs will increase their growth to, what people consider, is a normal height.
At a young age, it is hard to tell what size a child will grow to. There are many formulas people

Non State Networks That Emerge During War
Non state networks that emerge during war are largely informed by the country s peacetime
dynamics, adjusting to opportunities and challenges in a less secure environment. Are they
inherently predatory, undermining the state and stripping its assets or can they be foundations from
which a strong civil society can be built upon as, ostensibly, relative stability returns? Different
actors in a conflict have different tools at their disposal and thus divergent mechanisms for
harnessing power. Picard (2000) categorises four organizational networks that emerged during
Lebanons fifteen year civil war: ideological and welfare based entities; loosely controlled armed
groups; autonomous principalities; and corporatist structures. It goes without saying that these
categories are not rigid and can exhibit overlapping characteristics. Their separation however serves
a useful analytical purpose and reveals the diversity in the means devised, to both maintain local
legitimacy and maintain a steady revenue stream, devised by those who take part in war making.
Loosely Controlled Armed Groups
The Lebanese Shi ite militia, Amal was composed of a variety of local self defence groups

Confirmability alludes to the degree to which the outcomes could be approved by others, or put in
another way; how objective are the outcomes. This may, for instance, be accomplished by giving
definite descriptions of the methodology connected in the thesis to allow others to examine the
thesis procedure. Also, the researcher can guarantee objectivity by taking an impartial position on
the topic to evade potential personal predispositions.
Information on each corporation s negative and positive outcomes is gathered from reports of the

Global Compact and the strategy of corporations for peace
We need business to give practical meaning and reach to the values and principles that connect
cultures and people everywhere .
Ban Ki moon, Secretary General of the UN
The UNs Global Compact was originally an approach by the UN in 2000. The strategy was
founded in order to function as a podium for the execution and disclosure of including responsible
businesses to the purpose of enhanced global development. The UNGC was planned to carry the
international community and the businesses of the world collectively. The corporation between
business, governments, civil society, labor and the UN has resulted in hopes to address landmarks
for development, such as building markets, protecting the environment, struggle against corruption
and guaranteeing social inclusion. The UNGC is established on ten principles that cover the parts
of human rights, labor, environment and anti corruption. Now, there are almost 8,000 corporate
contributors from over 140 countries worldwide. The UNGC is now the world s principal
voluntary initiative for corporate sustainability (UNGC, 2014:1). The ten principles of the UNGC

Alexis Bledel Research Paper
Alexis Bledel is latina who is often mistaken as Irish because of her fair skin. Alexis was born in
Houston, Texas, on September 16, 1981. Although she was born in America, her parents laid out
their Latin roots. Her mother is Mexican and her father is from Argentina. Her parent s origins
created an environment that was multicultural and Spanish speaking. She did not start speaking
English until she entered school. Alexis was timid as a young girl but found her way into acting
and modeling. In return, this encouraged her to break open her shell. She first received her big

Bledel recalls being afraid of the role at first because she did not want to be the weakest link. For
the majority of the script, she had very few lines; meaning, she would only be able to use her

helped me to open a whole new world in my life. I love providing the audience with emotion
without even saying a word. Alexis is particularly incredible because she proved people s
assumptions incorrect. Many people believed that she was a pretty face and did not have the
talent to keep up with the big name actors. Even her directors and producers on Gilmore Girls
degraded her abilities. But, she made them think again with her Emmy award winning
performance in the Handmaid s Tale. Alexis Bledel displayed to everyone that she has more talent
than anyone realized. Alexis is also an inspiration to actresses and mothers across America. Alexis
lives a balanced life of acting and being a mom, while many actresses feel the need to choose

she can do what she loves. She said, In my life, I don t want to have my face plastered

The Importance Of Environmental Change On The Environment
Environmental change on the planet can be caused by different exercises. At the point when
environmental change happens; temperatures can expand a significantly. At the point when
temperature rises, a wide range of changes can happen on Earth. For instance, it can bring about
more surges, dry seasons, or extraordinary rain, and in addition more continuous and extreme
warmth waves. Seas and icy masses have additionally encountered a few changes: seas are
warming and ending up more acidic, ice sheets are dissolving, and ocean levels are rising. As these
progressions regularly happen in future decades, they will probably exhibit difficulties to our
general public and condition.
Amid the previous century, human exercises have discharged a lot of carbon dioxide and other
nursery gasses into the air. The vast majority of the gasses originate from consuming petroleum
derivatives to deliver vitality. Nursery gasses resemble a cover around the Earth, catching vitality in
the climate and making it warm. This is known as the nursery impact and it is characteristic and
important to help life on earth. Be that as it may, while nursery gasses development, the atmosphere
changes and result in perilous impacts to human wellbeing and biological communities. Individuals
have adjusted to the steady atmosphere we have appreciated since the last ice age which finished a
few thousand years back. A hotter atmosphere can bring changes that can influence our water

Assyrian King Sennacherib Research Paper
In 701 BCE, the Assyrian king Sennacherib led a campaign across the ancient Near East to gain
tribute from the people living therein, as well as to punish Judah s King Hezekiah for supporting
an insurgency by Egypt and Babylonia. In order to get what he wanted, Sennacherib laid siege to
46 cities between Assyriaand Jerusalem. A prime example of this is Lachish, the second largest city
in Judah after Jerusalem. The sacking of Lachish is considered to be Sennacheribs biggest feat, and
he vividly describes his accomplishments in taking Lachish on the walls of his Assyrian palace.
Town to town, he made his way towards Jerusalem, leaving a trail of death and destruction in his
wake.
Hearing that Sennacherib was on his way, Hezekiah began to fortify, prey, and plan for the
inevitable extended siege that was approaching. With an impressive show of ancient engineering,
Hezekiah extended the tunnels that served as the water carrying network in order to supply
Jerusalem with water for an extended period of time without requiring men to leave the city walls.
He also built up stockpiles of grain and other staples in order to guarantee the safety of the ... Show

The Hyksos
This essay will discuss the conquering of Upper Egypt 200 year ruling and adaptation of the
Hyksos over Egypt, during the second intermediate period. At the end of the twelfth dynasty after
the reign of Sobekkare, there was a short time(period) where Egypt had no ruler because there was
no heir to the throne. Unexpectedly from a region East to (of) Egypt, invaders of unknown ethnicity
marched into Egypt with confidence. They easily seized it without striking a blow (Van Seters
p.15). According to Manetho, they overpowered the rulers of the land, burned the cities, and tore
many monuments down ruthlessly. They treated the civilians harshly, massacring many, and
leading many others into slavery; eventually they took over the empire, making... Show more

They used these weapons to take control over Upper Egypt. However once they did take control,
they brought these weapons into the Egyptian way of war, they taught the Egyptians how to use and
build them. Eventually after 200 years of ruling over Egypt they would be pushed out and defeated
by the Egyptians using these weapons.
It seems as thought the Hyksos were able to easily take over Upper Egypt for two reasons; their
superior military advancements and the perfect timing, during a political weakness. But it is
possible that another factor may have facilitated this conquering as well. There is another
theory, which suggests that; the whole area was infected by plague, perhaps this is what is
meant by the smiting of god (Van Seters p.203). If the Hyksos were to march into Upper Egypt
at this time, there would be no one to stop them from taking over. Which is why there is little to
no evidence of war during this time. Apophis was the Final Hyksos leader, he was a great king,
who had great wealth and a great reputation, and perhaps this is what drove the Egyptians to take
back Lower Egypt. The end of the Hyksos ruling began with the Egyptian ruler Seqenenre, who
directed a campaign against the Hyksos from Thebes. Apophis sent Seqenenre a letter claiming the
hippopotami of Thebes were disgraceful, bellowing so loudly that he could not sleep . (Watterson,
p.58) These inevitably sent Egypt into a revolution.

Popper Falsification
Popper termed the idea of falsification as a means of separating science from non science. The
separation of science and non science became known as the problem of Demarcation. He believed
that any theory was scientific on the basis that such theories could have possible evidence to
suggest that the theorywas wrong. Conversely, a notion would be deemed unscientific if no
contradictory evidence could be gathered. An example of Demarcation is the separation of Einstein
s theory of relativity and Freud s psychoanalytic theory (section 2). Popper saw Einstein s theory as
making predictions that could potential be incorrect and that such examples would falsify the entire
theory. Conversely, Freud s psychoanalytic theory was capable of explaining most of human
behavior without contradictory evidence.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of this, using observations cannot completely verify a theory, it would only verify what a
scientist would be looking for. On the other hand, searching for counterexamples to a theory can
falsify the theory. In addition, falsification allows more questions to be raised to search for
contradiction evidence. This search for falsification of a theory is consequently a better
methodology for separating science from non science(section 3). In addition, Popper believed all
scientific theories as being tests for falsification and not verification. This extends into the idea that
no theory is a universal truth, but only that contradictory evidence has not been found for such a

Faith is a hard thing to master, and sometimes obtaining it is even harder. Many of the character

Designing A Twelve Week Support Group For Those Who Have...

Group Description
I will be designing a twelve week support group for those who have lost someone to suicide. The
purpose of support groups is to help members cope with stressful life events and revitalize existing
coping abilities (Toseland) but the purpose of this specific support group will be to give members
involved a sense of normality and a feeling of belonging. Within such a tragedy it isn t uncommon
to let the grief transcend into a depression or isolation, but it s proven that human relationships (i.e
groups) can provide the needed support for individuals to work through their grief and heal. The
issue addressed will be moving forward after the loss of a loved one.
The group will be closed, as with such personal and delicate content it s important to create trust
and cohesion, which has a better chance of occurring if the group is closed. Cerel (2009) states
that it isn t clear if open ended group membership leads people to be re traumatized by constantly
hearing stories of violent death over and over. Growing together as a limited group can teach
individuals coping techniques and give meaningful support. Flatt (2007), states that commonly
Survivors of Suicide groups often meet anywhere from 1 ВЅ to 2 hours and Wesner (1999) suggest
groups occur weekly. Having this be consistent is crucial.
There are a multitude of overall goals of the group that have to do with individual and societal
perceptions of

The Symbol Of Christmas In Grecian Home
In the county of Greece, St. Nicholas is called О†ОіО№ОїП‚ О’О±ПѓОЇО»О·П‚. His clothes are
soaked with brine and his beard is dripping wet. As the protector of sailors and seamen, his face is
covered with perspiration as he tries to reach sinking ships and save men from drowning.
Christmas trees are not traditional symbols in Greek homes. Rather, the symbol of Christmas in
Grecian homes is a clay bowl with a piece of wire suspended across the top. Hanging from the wire
is a sprig of basil tied around a wooden cross, and below the cross, to keep the basil fresh is a bit of
holy water.
Greek tradition says that during the twelve day period, from Christmas to the Feast of the Epiphany
on January 6th, the Killantzaroi, a type of goblin, rises from the

NextGen is a tremendous, historic shift to revamp the U.S. air transportation system. This all
embracing initiative integrates new and existing policies, procedures, and technologies, including
satellite navigation and advanced digital communications. Two major parts of this upgrade and
modernization include, but not limited to, Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System
(STARS) and En Route Automation Modernization (ERAM). These systems enable NextGen
capabilities in all phases of flight and safety. STARS for instance, replaces multiple automation
systems for controllers who provide control services to pilots in terminal airspace and the airspace
immediately surrounding major airports. Additionally, ERAM combines flight plan information
with surveillance data from Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADS B), Wide Area
Multi lateration, and radar to automate many air traffic control functions. Other parts of ERAM
include, System Wide Information Management (SWIM), which provides the digital data sharing
backbone of NextGen. SWIM also connects producers and users of data with a common language
and single point of contact to access aeronautical, flight, and weather information. ADS B sends out
broadcasts of an aircraft s position, altitude, and velocity to a network of ground stations that relays
the information to air traffic control displays and nearby aircraft that are equipped to receive the
data. Each component delivers specific capabilities to provide integration and smooth traffic flow to

In order to show the importance of website design and its flow, Amazon is taken as an example.
Amazon has spent millions of dollars on the design of their website; and finally succeeded in
creating the Amazon brand. Because of its ability to attract the customers attention and satisfy the
customers, many companies adopted the Amazon website design when designing their own
websites (Rosen Purinton, 2004). Although the product, product descriptions, cover images, and
editorial content from their vendors are the same between Amazon and its competitors such as
Barnesandnoble.com, Amazon engages its users better by making use of the customer activity to
produce better search results; unlike other website searches which only lead with the company s
own products or sponsored results (O Reilly, 2007). Involving more user participation in its website
design is one of the most important reasons why Amazon gains a higher level of satisfaction from
customers and a greater success than its competitors.
Apart from website design, perceptions of online trust play an important role in e satisfaction.
Trust is used in this essay because it includes both security and privacy. According to the finding
of Koufaris and Hampton Sosa (2004), although the number of the web users grows at a fast speed,
only approximately 15% of those surfers buy online. Besides, an increasing

Impact of the Presence of Sugar Daddies in the European...
Introduction 271 words 2,070 overall
The main aim of this paper is to identify and discuss a contemporary issue that affects operations
management, strategic management and human resource management within the specific industry.
Building on the authors interest this paper will focus on the arising issues and problems related
with the rapid growth of the influence of private and public (to lesser extent) benefactor owners
within the European football industry (Lang et al., 2011). The European model of Sport (Holt,
2009) refers to the overall design of the European Football Industry and implies a guideline that
organisations has to follow. The most important principles assume a global hierarchy where

These are strategic management, operations management and human resource management, which
will be briefly explained in this subchapter. To better understand the sugar daddy phenomenon it
is important to define it within the right historical and economical context. The sugar daddy
term refers to wealthy individual who decided to invest large amount of their capital into taking
over the football club (Lang et al., 2011) and then to inject even more money in order to acquire
better coaching and playing talent, hence to increase the overall team quality (Madden, 2012).
However there were many private owners of football clubs in the past. Wealthy investors like
Jack Walker (Blackburn Rovers F.C); Silvio Berlusconi (AC Milan) or Masimo Moratti
(Internazionale Milano) (Lang et al., 2011) managed their clubs in a way they could achieve both
sporting success and its long term financial stability. Only recently football clubs became an
expensive toy for even wealthier individuals (Kuper, 2009). The core example and a kind of
archetype of modern sugar daddy is Chelsea London Football Club owner Roman Abramovich who
injected a total of ВЈ880 million into his club between 2003 and 2012 (Franck Lang, 2012;
Madden, 2012). He was then followed by others: Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan bought
Manchaster City (England) in 2008 for ВЈ800 million (Franck Lang, 2012);

A Brief Note On Surface Water And Water
Surface water (waterways, streams, and lakes) covers almost 70% of the Earth s surface are the
principle wellsprings of water for mechanical, household, and watering system utilizes making it a
standout amongst the most vital players in the hydrologic and biogeochemical cycles. As critical as
these surface waters may be, just a little number are kept up and found in their normal condition
because of concentrated anthropogenic exercises, for example, urbanization and surface water
contamination, in this manner, making it an awesome natural issue on the planet everywhere
(Zhao et al., 2011). Frequently than not, these waterways and streams are profoundly powerless
water bodies in view of the part they play in carting away and taking in point (local wastewater
and mechanical release) and non point source (farming and urban spillover) contaminations
(Carpenter et al., 1998). Wastewater release from local and mechanical situations makes up a
steady dirtying source, though surface spillover from urbanized and farming situations are to a
great extent affected by climatic conditions inside a watershed (Singh et al., 2004). Regular variety
in precipitation (downpour) and its related surface overflow stream strongly affect surface water
release and, in this manner, on the centralization of toxins in waterways, streams and lakes (Booth,
1991, Vega et al., 1998). In view of the confusions connected with corruption of waterways and

  • 2. The Use Of Lichen And Its Effect On The Environment Lichens are widely distributed in many different areas and can be found inhabited within harsh habitats such as dry arid hot deserts and freezing mountain tops. Environmental factors such as temperature, sun exposure levels, and the pH levels of soil influence the growth of Lichens. Their natural structure and symbiotic relationship with fungus and a photosynthetic partner has given these organisms the ability to survive such harsh and exposed environments. Their ability to absorb substances and minerals dissolved in rain and dew has also enabled Lichento live and survive in such extreme areas, but this ability has had the effect of making them very sensitive to pollutants in the air; and therefore cannot survive in polluted areas such as the city because of automobile traffic such as cars, and industrial activity. Lichen can be found growing within soil, on the surface layer of rocks, and most commonly, they are found growing on the bark of trees (Raven et al. 2010, p. 626 627). The graph above shows that the south aspect of most of the trees in Campbelltown Campus had the greatest surface area of lichen coverage on the tree trunk, compared to the other aspects (east, north and west). The east aspect had the second highest average cell count of lichen coverage. The north and west aspects had a similar cell count which varied by a small amount, with the north aspect having the lowest amount of lichen coverage, and the west being the second lowest. The results did not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay about Vincent Van Gogh Vincent Willem van Gogh Vincent Willem van Gogh was born on March 30th 1853, in Zundert, The Netherlands. Van Gogh spent his teenage year s working for a firm of art dealers; however, he did not embark upon his art career until 1880. Originally, he worked only with dark and gloomy colors, until he came across the art movements developed in Paris known as, Impressionism and Neo Impressionism (Meier Graefe 4). Van Gogh than included their brighter colors and unique style of painting into his very own creations. He produced more than 2,000 works, including around 900 paintings and 1,100 drawings and sketches, during the last ten years of his life (Meier Graefe 10). However, most of his best known works were produced in his last... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... High doses of thujone will also cause a person to see objects in yellow, which may also be the reason why he loved the color yellow. Yet, due to Van Gogh s extreme commitment to religion, and enthusiastic speed in this art pieces, many doctors also assumed Van Gogh could have been bipolar. Van Gogh s episodes were always followed by exhaustion, and depression, and eventually suicide (Meier Graefe 46). Therefore, bipolar may be a logical reason of Van Gogh s mental condition. Though, there may have been many arguments of Gogh s mental condition, there is still a final agreement that throughout his Van Gogh still created intriguing art for the world to see. One of Van Gogh s most famous paintings is The Starry Night. Although, Van Gogh sold only one painting in his life, the aftermath of his work is enormous (Schapiro 31). Widely known as his greatest piece of work, the painting has been reproduced several times and is one of his most famous paintings. Van Gogh however, was not satisfied with this painting, in a letter to his brother Theo from Saint Remy he states, In all this batch I think nothing at all good save the field of wheat, the mountain, the orchard, the olives with the blue hills and the portrait and the entrance to the Quarry, and the rest says nothing to me, because it lacks individual intention and feeling in the lines. • 5. Essay On Post Operative Risk Management What pre/peri/post operative risk management strategies will you utilize with this patient and why? Female patients diagnosed with anxiety, depression and past chronic pain are at increased risk of developing chronic post surgical pain (1). Studies have shown high preoperative anxiety and female gender are the two major risk factors of developing acute postoperative and post chronic surgical pain (1). Several strategies can be used to reduce the patient s anxiety and the incidence of developing acute post operative chronic pain. At the consultation appointment, the clinician should address patient s attitudes and concerns, educate the patient on the dental procedure, and identify the procedures that are likely to cause severe pain (1). Studies show chronic post surgical pain is associated with poor surgical technique, increased time of surgery, and operations with high risk of nerve injury (1). One may consider the use of cone beam topography to map the inferior alveolar nerve and its proximity to the tooth in question. This patient should also be treated by an oral surgeon as they are highly trained and efficient in exodontia. Factor V mutations include: Factor V Leiden, Factor V Cambridge and Factor V Hong Kong. Studies have been conducted to see the prevalence of these mutations in patients who have been diagnosed with venous thrombosis and its association with activated protein C resistance. COAGULATION Coagulation is a process where there is a blood clot formation at the site of an injured blood vessel. Once there has been an injury to the blood vessel wall, vasoconstriction immediately occurs, and then we get primary haemostasis. Platelet activation occurs in this process and they adhere to the subendothelial complex. There is a formation of fibrin in this process and this leads to a haemostatic plug being formed at the site of injury. Secondary haemostasis also occurs simultaneously with primary haemostasis. In this process, tissue factors are involved in the initiation of the coagulation cascade. The end result of the coagulation cascade is the activation of thrombin. Thrombin is an important enzyme in haemostasis as it is needed for the conversion of fibrinogen to an insoluble fibrin monomer to form the matrix of the clot and also it is important for further platelet activation. • 8. The Influence Of Chicken Katsu In Hawaiian Culture Food is a enormous aspect of hawaiian culture. Due to the influences of incoming voyagers bringing new and more agricultural diversity Hawaiian foods shifted and changed. Resulting in the increasing agriculture there was a higher demand from plantation workers. Plate lunch then became an important aspect of hawaiian culture providing a quick easy lunch for plantation workers and many others. Plate lunch is still a very well known and loved dish today in Hawaii and is slowly making its way to the mainland. More specifically chicken katsu is usually a favorable option on a common plate lunch. Chicken katsu which originated in Japan has changed and influenced plate lunch and hawaiian culture. Chicken katsu is a delicious Japanese dish invented in 1899. Katsu is short for katsuretsu the Japanese transliteration for cutlet. It consists of breaded, deep fried, chicken cutlet a couple centimeters thick. In Japan it is served with a tonkatsu sauce, shredded cabbage, rice and/or miso soup. It is also commonly served with rice and a silky curry. In a typical Hawaiian plate lunch chicken katsu is served with a scoop of macaroni salad and rice.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 9. The Game Of Soccer Is The World s Game And The Greatest... Erin Johnson and Megan Nieland Biomechanical Analysis Introduction Introduction to Biomechanics October 10, 2014 The game of soccer is often called the world s game and the greatest sport ever to be played. Here in America, soccer is the nation s game and only popular when one of the national teams is playing in the World Cup or Olympics. While the sport is gaining popularity, Americans would rather play and watch football and baseball. The slower paced, timeout centered sports such as football and baseball give teams moments to regroup. In soccer there are hardly any pauses in a forty five minute half where a team can have a few moments to take a breath before continuing play. A corner kick is one of the ways of restarting play in the game of soccer and regrouping as a team. When the ball is played out of bounds and last touched by a defending player, the attacking team is awarded with a corner kick. This brief pause in the game allows the attacking team to regroup and an opportunity for them to score a goal. A corner kick is taken from the nearest corner of the field where the ball exited. The soccer ball is placed inside the arc, where the goal line and sideline intersect. The attacking player kicks the soccer ball towards the group of attackers and defenders that are swarmed around the goal. This is the optimal goal scoring opportunity for the attack team. By placing the ball in the right place, the attacking team has the opportunity to score. Proper mechanics of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fascism is defined as an authoritarian nationalistic system of government and social organization (Passmore), which was how Franco ran his government, taking complete control and doing many extreme things that took away the country s culture and diversity, leaving it very isolated. Franco s fascist government profoundly impacted the people because of the establishment of a totalitarian regime and the severe political repression that it caused in the country. In Article one of Franco s decree, it states that Spain, as a political unity, is a Catholic and social state, which in accordance with its tradition is constituted as a Kingdom. The Head of the State is the chieftain of the crusade and the Generalissimo of Armies, Don Francisco Franco y Bahamonde (Francisco Franco). The very first article of this decree states that Francisco Franco holds all power and everything should be done his way. It even states that Spain is constituted as a Kingdom , meaning it is directly and completely ruled by a king, or Franco himself. He runs the military, the government, and watches everything the people do. It is also suggesting that Spain is catholic, but it does not speak of any other religion, which is an example of an extreme limitation he put on the people, impacting the culture of the country. Franco isolated the people by putting many restrictions on them, such as banning foreign languages and creating a secret police network to spy on the people (History 2). Francisco Franco took a totalitarian government system to another level and took away the cultural diversity of the country. Not only did he forbid cultural diversity with the law, but he also took an extra step to make sure that the citizens were obeying him by using secret spies. If his rules were not followed, then there were severe consequences, that vary from just getting tried in court all the way to execution. These are a few questions that we will be addressing in this paper, in addition to many other questions about these topics. Let us start by defining an annotated bibliography. As mentioned by Bullock et. al, an annotated bibliographydescribes and gives publication information for, and sometimes evaluate each work on a list of sources. (p.66) Additionally, an in text citationis defined as a reference made within the body of text of an academic essay ( What is an in text citation? , para. 1) We will discover their purpose, why they are important, how to construct them, and when to use them. Additionally, there are many guidelines depending on the type of source, what information is available, etc. Therefore, it is best to research certain types of citations when you come across them. In conclusion, we learned that the purpose of an annotated bibliography is to summarize or analyze the source used for your research. Additionally, having an annotated bibliography has many benefits. One example is the assistance in developing the proper thesis statement for your paper. With the extensive summaries or analyzations, you can use this information to choose the right path for your essay. Heifetz and Marty Linsky brings a lot in perspective especially when thinking about how to approach leadership in a class that focuses on us as a person and how we recognize certain things within and without. One of my favorite examples that was used was the dance floor scenario, it brings a lot into perspective when thinking deeper into matters. Sometimes by being on the dance floor you miss a lot of details and minor things that you would only be able to catch by being on the balcony. If we think of life as a dance floor it because very easy to relate the situation to what so often happens to us. The authors capture a very important point, But if you had gone up to the balcony and looked down on the dance floor, you might have seen a very different picture. You would have noticed all sorts of patterns (Heifetz and Linsky 3). In our class I think it will be important to sometimes take that step back as a participant and try to understand things from a different view. This film reverses gender roles through the character of Ninotchka and shows how sexuality was becoming more and more overt in films and regulations becoming more lax on it because people wanted to see more overt sexuality. Ninotchka was released just as World War II was starting. The theme of the film was also very important because it explored the different aspects of the capitalist system versus the communist system while portraying the capitalist system in a more favorable light. However it makes a joke out the communist system through its portrayal of the three comrades and their behavior. It addresses a major issues and takes a stand against it while also doing so in a comical way. For these reasons, the film, Ninotchka had a very significant political meaning because of the time period it was released and the risk it was taking against Russia who was a much needed ally. Pluripotent Stem Cell Essay A review on Induction of Pluripotent Stem Cells from Mouse Embryonic and Adult Fibroblast Cultures by Defined Factors В¬Stem cells are yet undifferentiated cells, with the potential capability to further divide indefinitely, and the ability to give rise to more specialized cell types. Embryonic stem(ES) cells are of especially great importance due to their pluripotency and hence ability to differentiate to cells of all three germ layers. Due to the great replicative powers of these cells, they may be used to treat degenerative diseases, or injuries to the nervous system. Conversely when all 24 candidates were expressed Yamanaka and Takahashi were able to obtain multiple G418 resistant colonies. The experiment was repeated, and six colonies were chosen. Out of these six, four displayed morphology and proliferation properties which were highly similar to ES cells. Reverse transcriptase PCR(RTPCR) revealed several ES cell markers, and further analysis provided evidence that it was a combination of some of the 24 factors which induced pluripotency. To find the specific combination required to induce pluripotency, Yamanaka and Takahashi observed the effect of removing certain factors. A total of ten factors were noted to have critical effect on the early growth of cells; removal of any of these ten factors resulted in no colony growth within the first ten days of culturing. Furthermore, when these ten genes were combined, Yamanaka and Takahashi noted that the resulting cells were more similar to ES cells than cells with all 24 factors were transduced. Out of these ten factors, further factors were withdrawn; when factors Oct Вѕ or Klf4 were removed no G418 resistant colonies formed. Moreover, when Sox2 was removed minimal colonies formed. While resistant colonies still formed despite the removal of c Myc, the colonies had a distorted morphology from regular ES cells (Figure 1). The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Challenges Facing Urban Sprawl And Inner City Poverty voice of the people and leaves staff and administration struggling to find suitable solutions in a fixed budget. Public choice theory supports the theory that fragmented municipal structures generate savings because they allow individuals to make their own choices about services and taxes (L.G.C, pg. 155). This can lead to greater issues of urban sprawl and inner city poverty as the larger municipality becomes more fragmented. Key Purpose: Equity When examining equity and equality in a fragmented municipal structure, serious concerns can be raised in regards to inequalities to income, economic opportunity and quality of life (L.G.C, pg. 161). It is sadly ironic that suburb residents avoid the social costs of the inner city, but yet, the inner city residents are subsidizing the expensive projects in the suburbs like infrastructure and water /sewer lines (L.G.C, pg. 161). Solutions for equity issues can be successfully addressed in other ways than restructuring. Issues such as spillover overs and externalities are often amplified when urban and rural municipalities with varying service standards are brought together. Vojinovic emphasizes that if the different levels of services among merging municipalities is not recognized and built into the tax structure, externalities can result in residents businesses can be paying for services that do not benefit them (L.G.C, pg. 163). A family was destroyed by a blatant lack of judgement and disregard for anything besides a selfish thirst for excitement that could have easily been obtained without the resulting destruction. There is no doubt Redcrosse deserved to have excitement and adventure in his life, but how he obtained this was out of arrogance and ignorance. He caused many lives to be destroyed all because he refused to believe there was any other way he could have achieved his desire. • 36. Confucianism Influence On Australian Society Confucianism is a system of philosophical and ethical teachings founded by Confucius. It explores and teaches a sense of doing what is right, serving their superiors diligently and loyally, and to display benevolence towards others. It also practices rituals and teaches morals on how we were created which are aspects that define a belief system to be a religion. Confucianism, in terms of relating to other countries, does not have a strong connection or relevance to the 21st Century Australian society in regards to the search for meaning. Giving injections of a drug to children who may not need it would be unnecessary time and money spent on treatment. According to bioethicist Arthur L. Whenever you take people on the low end of a distribution curve and say they have a disorder, you re starting down a slippery slope (Bailey). It is dangerous to state people who are different have a problem or disorder. If one group is considered abnormal then more will believe there is something seriously wrong with them. People of short stature often do not have disorders. Short stature is not a problem, it is just a situation, just like those who are naturally taller than most. Because these people are being labeled with disorders, they believe the use of drugs will increase their growth to, what people consider, is a normal height. Non State Networks That Emerge During War Non state networks that emerge during war are largely informed by the country s peacetime dynamics, adjusting to opportunities and challenges in a less secure environment. Are they inherently predatory, undermining the state and stripping its assets or can they be foundations from which a strong civil society can be built upon as, ostensibly, relative stability returns? Different actors in a conflict have different tools at their disposal and thus divergent mechanisms for harnessing power. Picard (2000) categorises four organizational networks that emerged during Lebanons fifteen year civil war: ideological and welfare based entities; loosely controlled armed groups; autonomous principalities; and corporatist structures. It goes without saying that these categories are not rigid and can exhibit overlapping characteristics. Their separation however serves a useful analytical purpose and reveals the diversity in the means devised, to both maintain local legitimacy and maintain a steady revenue stream, devised by those who take part in war making. It seems as thought the Hyksos were able to easily take over Upper Egypt for two reasons; their superior military advancements and the perfect timing, during a political weakness. The separation of science and non science became known as the problem of Demarcation. Conversely, a notion would be deemed unscientific if no contradictory evidence could be gathered. An example of Demarcation is the separation of Einstein s theory of relativity and Freud s psychoanalytic theory (section 2).
