Medicine In Muslim World Essay
Medicine in the Muslim World and the Americas, 700 1500
Medicine was an important part of the Muslim world; both rich and poor people were interested in
health and diseases. In fact, one of the greatest contributions to the Muslim world to modern medicine
is the preservation of many of the original works of philosophers, poets and physicians. Subsequently,
Muslim doctor and scholars wrote about health and developed an extensive complex medical
literature. Unlike medical literature today, which is specialized, but in the medieval world
amalgamated amongst natural science, astrology, alchemy, religion, philosophy and mathematics are
medical literature (Nordqvist, 2012).
Recognize through the reciprocal contributions to the Old and the New Worlds to the history of
diseases, their treatment is America. It also shows the consequences of this discovery, as they are

For example, the Aztec believed that sickness was a divine act of the gods, and when the sickness fell
upon them they accepted ruination, they saw it as a radical measure necessary to fulfilling the gods
wishes. Conversely, in the Muslim world they believed that the Holy Quran contains a cure for all
aliment, physical and spiritual, in the same way; they made an enormous contribution to the world in
Islamic medicine (Shuttleworth, 2010). Healers were Priests, physicians, and gods. Substantiate in the
Muslim world s medical practices and writing were the principals of Hippocrates and Galen and other
scientific writers of the classic Greece and Rome. Additionally, one of the greatest contributions to the
world was their preservation of the original works of philosophers, poets and physicians with which
the Greco Roman tradition would have vanished (Anderson, 2007, p.

Make and Receive Telephone Calls
Make and Receive Telephone Calls
This unit is about making and receiving telephone calls and transferring calls, when necessary, in a
business environment.
1 Understand how to make telephone calls.
1.1 Describe the different features of telephone systems and how to use them.
Telephone systems have many different features this allows us to handle and manage calls in a
professional manner.
Call holding places a caller on hold so you can perform another task. This could be to locate
paperwork, find client/customer details, retrieve information from another member of staff or contact
another colleague to divert the call along to.
Call waiting lets you know when there is a caller waiting on another line and wishes to speak to you.

Whenever you make a call you are your companies representative so it is always important to be as
polite and as helpful as possible as this may in turn create more custom for your business.
1.6 Explain the purpose of summarising the outcomes of a telephone conversation before ending the
call.
Summarising is important so both parties involved are sure of the information that has been
exchanged, it also ensures all questions are answered fully. For example during a long conversation
about several different products your company produces you say £5 per unit but the caller thinks you
said 5 units per £ so summarising will prevent misunderstanding and incorrect information being
relayed in a different company. Also if the conversation was long some finer details may have been
missed simply due to the large amount of information discussed. Some companies have a policy were
a courtesy email is sent to the caller in which all the information from the call has been summarised
and additional information can be added.
1.7 Describe how to identify problems and who to refer them to.
When a call comes into the office always take a name (full if possible and preferably) and the
company they are calling from, try and obtain from the caller either what the problem is exactly or
from which department the problem arisen from and if they know who within the department they
spoke to. Pass message along to department or relevant staff and see what information can be found to

The Case for Contamination, by Kwame Anthony Appiah
In the article, The Case for Contamination , by Kwame Anthony Appiah, the author focused on
globalization and its effects on the world. He stressed how new innovations and traditions, rooted
from modernization, are essentially contaminating age old customs and values. Appiah used examples
from his personal experiences to illustrate the shift from traditional customs to modern practices
within cultures. Although the author explained how globalization adversely affects traditional values
and cultures, he also stressed the importance of free will and that ultimately, the people choose which
course of action globalization will take on humanity. Though that may be true, the fact still remains
that the world is being contaminated with new, modern innovations and values, and globalization is
negatively affecting society.
The world consists of almost 200 countries. Within those countries, you find millions of people from
all shapes, colors, and sizes. They may look different, think differently, wear peculiar clothing, and
even speak another language, but as humans, though we may fear it, we find that exciting
experiencing something outside of our comfort zone. With globalization, new technologies and
ideologies become prevalent and traditional practices become almost extinct. In the article, Appiah
discussed his first hand experience on the effects of globalization in his home country of Ghana. He
attended a ceremony where he assumed traditional festivities would take place, but

Philadelphia Art Museum
My trip to Philadelphia Museum of Art was really knowledgeable, joyful and informative. This
Museum of Art is the largest museum in the United States. When I arrived at the front of the museum I
was surprised and amazed how beautiful was the front entrance. The unique design and the gigantic
pillared building attracted me. The entrance had a huge statue of a lady with a bow and arrow in her
hand at the top of the Museum s Great Stair Hall known as Diana (1892 1893) by Augustus Saint
Gaudens. Diana is made up with copper sheets with the height of 14 feet 6 inches. I was fascinated
with many of the exhibits they had set up. There were rooms with different groups of art according to
their type, year and location they were made. All of the art in the art museum were interesting to look
at and interpret.
There were many paintings in the museum which caught my attraction. One of the painting I ... Show

Condoms And Birth Control
Although most parents frown upon their children having sex, safe sex is still important, which is why
condoms and birth control should not be permitted by the parents. For centuries now, most parents
have made a point that sex is forbidden until marriage or until they have moved out the house. The
effect of that, teens are very reluctant about letting their parents know that they are sexually active. So,
why would a teen ask a parent to set them up on birth control, knowing they don t allow sex in the first
place? They would not, unless they had some kind of death wish. It is a tough situation, with a non
win win solution. It s either they sneak around their parents back and have unprotected sex, and
possibly end up with a sexually transmitted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First off, in this world of 2017, sex is one of the biggest topics that stays trending. It is on television,
in magazines, books and even in commercials. It is a tight subject to be on, and your outlook on it can
either make or break how people even look at you. So, if a teen is to get in a relationship, or maybe
even just a fling, sex will be brought up soon. A teen who will stay sex free in this generation will
more than likely suffer for social insecurities, self esteem issues and could even become sexually
confused. Since the teen is not able to express his or her sexuality when needed, they bottle it up and
keep it inside, causing mixed feelings on what sex should and should not be like. In the future, this
could cause problems between whomever they marry. They never got to express it, therefore they don
t know what they like until it is too late, which could also cause early divorce as well. The teen will
also soon grow sexually frustrated, and irritable. Fighting normal sexual urges, while dealing with
hormones can take a lot out on the brain, causing them to lash out, and push others away. The teen will
then find another way to relieve stress and express themselves, which could be very violent or illegal.
Not to mention the social insecurities they will endure during their teen years. Obeying your parents
and staying a virgin is looked down upon by many peers and

Going through our warm up, like all volleyball games start, Brenna and I get our arms loose and get
our brains ready for action. We throw the ball back and forth. We go through all the drills of our warm

stand in our positions waiting for the return. The ball comes and two of my teammates go for the same
ball. One yells, Got it! while the other just stand there assuming the other one knows they are going to
get it. The ball shanks off and hits the floor. My teammates and I come together. Some yell at the

The Political Process Has Consumed My Time At Columbia Essay
The political process has consumed my time at Columbia. From a very young age, I knew that I
wanted to be involved in one day being a leader that constructs policy. With this calling in mind, I
have always been a fan of political history. There have been many great achievements in the realm of
domestic politics and foreign policy, but there are also examples of extraordinary failure. These
failures demonstrate what works when one seeks to build a team and make decisions that affect the
lives of millions of people. One such failure that comes to mind is the failed Bay of Pigs invasion.
The invasion was a plan to topple the Cuban government, with a group of Cuban expatriates with the
support of the U.S. government. The invasion was a complete failure. Although Kennedy was known
to have a cabinet and set of advisors, which came from the best schools and were supposed to be the
best in the business they failed to notice even the most obvious flaws in their plan. In short, there were
numerous flaws, ranging from the expected reaction of the Cuban populace, the capacity of the Cuban
military and all around faulty intelligence. In fact, many of these issues were never even addressed,
while the plan was being discussed. Many of these issues were based on faulty intelligence, which was
never questioned. Irving Janis, wrote a book called Group Think, which examined these fiascos like
these along with many others. The premise was simple, why do groups of what we consider very

With strong R D centers, the company designed a lessened sugar chocolate Truvia (Marketline, 2013),
which it sold intensively in retail chains of the USA, discussed in the next section of the report.
Cargill targets commodity markets in Asia, yet it prefers the Western markets for experimental and
marketing oriented commerce.
As a commodity company, Cargill targets resource markets, however its marketing activities tend to
concentrate in the West because in USA or Europe Cargill has a better foothold. Instead its commodity
and mass produced goods are spread in the rest of the world with an exception of Sri Lanka, where the
company holds a retail chain (Seas of Change, 2010).
Marketing activities in the West are more horizontally integrated: in a joint with Coca Cola, Cargill
devised sugar free sweetener for sugar conscious market in USA (Cargill,2013). Efficient work can be
seen behind Cargill s R D team which correctly identified American market accounting for nearly 80%
of reduced fats/sugars market (Confectionery,2011) .

Calcutt The Prominent Place Of Mother
Calcutta is the prominent place of Mother Teresa s missionary work. The city was founded by
Charnack. In 1690 it became an East India Company settlement. In 1756 Calcutta was invaded by
Bengal and its Muslim ruler. The Bengalis punished and killed the British, in what is known as the
Black Hole of Calcutta. The British quickly took offense and attacked the Bengalis. The British were
able to win back Calcutta. Calcutta started to become a major source of trade, which rooted the class
divisions even deeper. The city was flourishing and providing England with the money they had hoped
for. After the abolition of the East India Company in 1858, Calcutta, unfortunately, transformed into a
city overflowing with impoverished and ill people.
Then in 1905 The Partition of Bengal took place. This separated the Hindus from the Muslims. The
Partition, as well as the creation of Pakistan, which became dominantly Muslim, led to mass
immigration of refugees. Most of the citizens lived in bustis, or slums, continuing to today.
In 1977 the Communist party rose to power, with the help of the Bengali elite. It served as the longest
reigning elected communist government ever. They were able to gain power due to the horrid living
conditions and the confusion caused by the refugees escaping into Calcutta. Calcutta is a place of
poverty and religious conflict. Mother Teresa grew up involved in charity and neighborly love. Mother
Teresa was born Ganxhe Agnes Bojaxhiu in 1910 in

There was also a theory that damage to the STN would relief some of the symptoms of Parkinson s

positive role that the STN serves on hyperkinetic disorders.
(Freed, 2001) The purpose of this study was to see whether implanted embryonic dopamine neurons in
Parkinson s disease patients led to a relieve of symptoms and also to see whether age played a role in
whether the implanted neurons survived. All the participants were patients with Parkinson s disease
who had if for at least seven years and had all three signs of Parkinson s disease. The patients were

the treatment and of the 40 patients only 39 actually completed the study, one of the patients died in a
car crash before the study was finished the study lasted for a whole year. Also only patients who were

Persuasive Literary Devices In Could We Be Amusing...
Could We Be Amusing Ourselves to Death?
The evolution of technology has become indescribable. Technology is prevalent in our society, as well
as its portrayal in the media, a seemingly essential aspect of our everyday lives. Although many
idolize how technology has improved our lives, many fail to recognize technology s faults. By using
three persuasive literary devices (pathos, logos, and ethos), Neil Postman expresses his concern for
technological advancement and possible failure in the book Amusing Ourselves to Death. Logos
appeals to logic; when using a persuasive device such as logos, you are using logical reasoning to
appeal to the reader. When using logos, you must include facts, statistics, and citing credible sources.
By using ethos, the author conveys his ideas while being well aware of what he is talking about by
utilizing credible sources. Pathos, however, conveys the author s ideas by appealing to the reader s
emotions. Postman does an outstanding job of orchestrating a piece using the most popular persuasive
elements. Postman was able to incorporate all three of these devices into his book, but the most
prominent one in my opinion, and that helps to best convey Postman s point, is logos; statistics and
facts are two things you very rarely can fight against. Over and over Postman uses facts on how the
media is basically dumbing us down. For example, Postman pointed out that with the rise of the
televised age there was then a decrease in literacy.

Farming, it s the life blood of our nation, the backbone of this great planet.
But for those who don t know, corn doesn t come from a can, it comes from a field and months of hard
work. You are wondering how does the farmer harvest the corn?
Well the answer is the combine, which is a revolutionary piece of equipment that has been modernized
many many many times. It started when farmers wanted something that could cut, thresh, and dispose
of the waste. Thus the combine was invented. Newer combines are safer, hold more, and have higher

(Greatestachiavements.com) Newer combine bodies are made out of plastic which melts in a fire or

the back of the combine. The problem of having the engine compartment in the rear is that if a fire
starts, you won t see it right away, you will only smell it. Also the fuel tank is in the back which
carries about 400 gallons of diesel which is highly flammable. But the manufacturers got one thing
right, the fact that there is a bar inside the cab which will protect the driver in a rollover, which almost
never happens. But newer combines have a higher tendency to burn completely down and are better
off buying a new combine, while older combines just need a new engine and a new paint job. Also
older combines can get parts cheaper than new combines. But newer combines you can order parts and

Issues of Illegal Immigration
Introduction Alabama is not necessarily known as a hotbed for illegal immigration issues, so the news
flew under the radar. Last year, the state enacted immigration reform of its own after tiring of seeing
politicians of all stripes kick the problem down the road. But here s the thing the reforms worked. The
state s unemployment rate fell 0.6%, and a lot of those new jobs that were created were specifically
attributed to companies hiring Americans after shedding their illegal workers (Munro, 2011). So what
is it about immigration reform? Everybody knows that we need it. And on many points, everybody
agrees. Yet at the federal level, nothing seems to ever get done, leaving it to the states to create an
inherently inefficient system of patchwork laws. What we need is for someone to take charge of this
issue in the White House and in Congress it really does not matter who and actually implement
meaningful immigration reform.
Illegal immigration causes nothing but problems for America and for Americans. Illegal immigrants
undercut American workers for jobs. In many states they are eligible for various forms of public
assistance despite not paying taxes, and this happens even in conservative states like Texas and
Arizona (Ferrari, 2011). A patchwork of state laws is not going to address this issue adequately, but
merely push the problem around the country from one state to another. Reform is needed at the federal
level, as this is a problem that affects all states and all

For a romance about Francesca Johnson and Robert Kincaid, The Bridges of Madison County
mentions Francesca s husband Richard a surprising number of times. When the story begins, Italian

schools onto the public agenda.[2] Their work resulted in the Indian Residential School Settlement
Agreement, which stipulated a residential school Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada be
conducted.[2] The commission concluded that the Canadian residential school system was established
for the purpose of separating children from their families.[2] According to the commission, this was
done with the intention to minimize the family s ability to pass along their cultural heritage to their
children.[2][3] The commission spent six years traveling to different parts of Canada to hear the
testimony of approximately six thousand Aboriginal people who were taken away from their families
and placed in residential schools as children. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some former students made allegations of physical, psychological, and sexual abuse and neglect.[4]
The commission studied records and took testimony for evidence of activities alleged to have occurred
at residential schools, as well as the negative effects resulting from the schools stated aim to assimilate
First Nations children into the majority culture. The matter of student deaths at these institutions and
the burial of deceased students in unmarked graves without the notification or consent of the parents

The Human Mark On The Environment
Sedentism and domestication represent not just a technological change but also a change in
worldview. Land was no longer a free good, available to anyone, with resources scattered randomly
across the landscape; it was transformed into particular territories, collectively or individually owned,
on which people raised crops and flocks. Thus, sedentism and a high level of resource extraction
(whether by complex foraging or farming) led to concepts of property that were rare in previous
foraging societies. Graves, grave goods, permanent housing, grain processing equipment, as well as
the fields and herds, connected people to places. The human mark on the environment was larger and
more obvious following sedentization and the rise of farming; people transformed the landscape in
more dramatic ways building terraces or walls to hold back floods.
One of the more dramatic effects of settling down was the change in female fertility and the rise in
population. A number of different effects together caused the population to grow.Among modern
foragers, a woman s pregnancies tend to be spaced three to four years apart because of the extended
period of breastfeeding characteristic of these societies. Extended means not just that children are
weaned at three to four years of age but that they still nurse whenever they feel like it, as frequently as
several times an hour (Shostak 1981, 67). This nursing stimulus triggers the secretion of a hormone
that suppresses ovulation (Henry

How Did Charles Dickens Contradictions During The...
Charles Dickens s Oliver Twist was published in 1837 during the Victorian Era. The book was written
during a time of great advancements in medicine, technology, and science. These new technologies
along with the British imperial expansion led to a skyrocket in population and wealth. The increase of
people and wealth made Britain s poor even poorer, and resulted in distasteful practices that led to the
Victorian Era being known as a time of contradictions. Charles Dickens s life and Oliver Twist
symbolize the contradictions that were prevalent during the Victorian Era.
The Victorian Era was the time period during Queen Victoria s reign. The period lasted from 1837
until 1901 and began after the end of the industrial revolution. The time was ... Show more content on

Oliver, a small boy, is orphaned at a young age. He encounters many trials, and finds out that he is the
heir to a fortune. Oliver is thrown into the harsh environment of child labor, crime, and corruption. He
remains good natured, despite the world around him telling him that he is bad. Many characters in
Oliver Twist symbolize the contradictions in the Victorian Era. The Artful Dodger, Jack Dawkins, is a
thief in Fagin s gang. He meets young Oliver early on in the story and introduces him to Fagin. Jack
then helps Oliver to become a thief only to fail and betray Oliver by leaving him to take the fall. Jack
symbolizes the young children who have to cut their childhood short and grow up in order to provide
for themselves. Oliver describes Jack He was a snub nosed, flat browed, common faced boy enough;
and as dirty a juvenile as one would wish to see; but he had about him all the airs and manners of a
man . Jack follows the idea that the poor are destined for crime and ends up being caught and is
punished. Bill Sikes is a vicious, cold, and brutal man. He is one of, if not, the most brutal characters
in Oliver Twist. Sikes represents the Victorian preconception of poor people and criminals. Sikes kills
the only one that ever shows him affection. He later accidentally or intentionally hangs himself after
being chased by a mob. Noah Claypole is met in the beginning of the story. Noah physically

Analysis Of William Blake s Songs Of Innocence And Of...
Songs of Innocence and of Experience, which is written by William Blake, was published in 1794.
Author wants to describe the contrary of two states of human soul: innocence and experience. While
Songs of Innocence include is collection of poems about happy, or joyful world, Songs of Experience
are a collection of poems about sorrows, or sufferings. The above selection text is from The Lamb
which is a poem in Songs of Innocence. The first impressive about this poem is that it is as a song for
children and describes the innocence state of human through the conversation between a child and the
lamb. However, each poem could reflect the knowledge of author about something. Blake said that all
he knew is in bible. His poems may be implying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The text starts with naive questions Little Lamb, who made thee? Dost thou know who made thee?
(Blake). It could be considered as simple questions of a child to want to know about the world. These
questions are simple, but nobody can have a correct answer. Descriptive sentences are follow the
questions. A lamb is described through its wool and voice. Those are first things can be observed by
children, so it will be easy for them can know what author is describing. In addition, Blake uses words
delight , bright , tender , rejoice to describe about the lamb, they are also words implied to innocence.
The children are same as the lamb in the selection text and consider a innocence creature. They are
naive, happy and holy. Third, literary device helps to describe the innocence in the selection text. The
lamb is selected on the text rather than other animals. Characteristic of lamb is gentle and playful, and
it have a white soft wool. They could be a symbol of innocence. However, lamb is the choice of Blake
in his poem could imply another thing. The word Lamb is capitalized in the poem. It means that Blake
want to imply specific somebody or something rather than normal lamb. It will difficult to consider
whom Blake wants to talk about. However, as we know about Blake, all his knowledge is from bible.
Lamb in the bible is considered as children of God, and they are guided by God, so they do not have

Contract Transfer of Title to Real Property Essay
What advice R.J. is likely to give Padrina depends predominantly upon whether she and Orande have
an enforceable agreement. For a contract involving an agreement to transfer title to real property, as
here, to be enforceable, more than offer, acceptance and consideration must be present. The contract
must also comply with the Statute of Frauds. The Statute of Frauds requires that either the contract or
some memorandum of it is in writing and that writing is signed by the party to be charged. The writing
must also contain sufficient evidence of the contract s terms. Here, we are told to assume there is a
contract. However, there is no mention or evidence that the contract is in writing. So, we need to see if

In many cases where the parties did not specify some terms, the courts will presume they intended to
act according to a normative standard in the community. Here, the facts state the parties had a
contract. So, we do not need to address the formation issues. The property description does not have to
be a legal description if the evidence shows that, as between the seller and buyer, there was an
understanding of which property was involved. Here, there is no legal description. But, there is no
evidence Orande owned any other property known as CALIacre in Las Nachos. Therefore, this note
probably meets the property description test. The note refers to the parties by name. So, it provides
that term. The note refers to Orande s agreement to sell and Padrina s to buy CALIacre with the
attached apartment. As a result, it provides evidence of their agreement to sell and buy. The notes state
the price as $1,500,000. So, it meets that requirement. When, as here, the parties fail to state the terms
of payment, courts presume payment is in cash at the time of closing. Here, the note refers to a
mortgage amount and Padrina s having the rest of the money in cash. Therefore, a court would likely
presume they intended a cash payment to Orande at the time of closing. If the parties fail to state a
closing date, courts infer they intended to close within a reasonable time after they entered into their

UCC, UCIL, the Indian government, etc. UCC needs to be mentioned in the first paragraph.) On
December 2nd 1984, 40 tons of deadly Methyl Isocyanate (MIC) gas and other toxic gasses were
released in to the atmosphere from Union Carbide India, Limited s (UCIL) plant in Bhopal, India.
Water meant for cleaning internal pipes was mixed with MIC, due to a faulty valve, which led to an
exothermic reaction. The pressure and heat from this powerful reaction led to break down of a safety
valve which then caused MIC gas to be released into the atmosphere. During 1970, Indian government
encouraged foreign companies to invest in local industry and Union Carbide Corporation (UCC) was
asked to set up a plant to manufacture pesticide, to market throughout Asia. Bhopal was chosen as its
location because of central location and easier means of transportation. The plant was operated by
UCIL, a company controlled by Union Carbide Corporation (UCC), an American giant chemical
company presently a subsidiary of Dow Chemicals, held a 51% ownership in UCIL and 49% by
Indian investors including Government of India. Prior, to the catastrophe the plant had been

Similarities Between Dadaism And Internet Art
Art, quite simply, is a social force. It reflects on the feelings of people in society, whether individually
or as a whole. Usually art that vents the feelings of the artist occur around times or events that evoke
emotions powerful enough to provide a muse for artwork. Some art styles, such as Dadaism and
Internet Art, can directly tie their absurdist means to what was happening in that time. But do the time
periods in which those art styles were popular relate to the meaning behind the art? The similarities
between Dadaism and Internet/Postinternet art show the state of disarray and lack of hope for the
future that millennials have revived.
Dadaism
Dadaism is an art style defined as a form of artistic anarchy born out of disgust for the social, political,
and cultural values of the time. (Artyfactory). Pieces made in this style went against almost all of the
previously written rules of art, which earned it the title of anti art . Dada was presented in many ways,
the most well known being collages made on paper [Fig 1]. Another popular presentation was
photography, which was a relatively new concept at the time. These photographs turned ordinary
things into art by showcasing the abstractness of ordinary things as seen through a lens. One of the
most well known examples of Dada photography is Fountaine by Marcel Duchamp [Fig. 2].
Technology was also a new concept that Dada creating artists used to their advantage. Film and radio
broadcasting were used as mediums, one

Forgetfulness Billy Collins Analysis
Forgetfulness by Billy Collins Naturally, life is a continuous cycle of experience and learning. Yet
often times so much is buried in our lives that we fail to remember or recall what we have learned.
Memories that range from miniscule facts to important emotions can often leave unknowingly from
our mind. Billy Collin s Forgetfulness shows how memories are delicate and fragile, and that the
process of forgetting is one that is nonchalant. Billy Collins effectively blends subtle humor and irony
with a dramatic tone shift to explain that ideas and facts that people think are important flee the mind,
showing that nothing good can last. Although he refers to memories in a lighthearted, thoughtful
manner, the poem gradually shifts (just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Collins uses words that are fused with loss and melancholy when he says night and war which indicate
a tonal shift. He then also mentions the moon drifting out of a love poem, an emotional memory that
one will never be able to recall again. The tone shift is also seen specifically through the words
denoted in the poem; such as slip and float which imply a sense of a gradual and smooth process of
forgetting. Collin s purpose of evoking emotion to the reader and signifying the continual process of
forgetting is revealed through small attention to detail such as the common diction and personification.
Collins uses very clever and witty images to describe the process of forgetting to ironically make it
seem that memories are not as important, although they are significant in individuals lives: the
memories you used to harbor decided to retire to the southern hemisphere of the brain. Here Collins
plays on the idea of an older person retiring not only from a job, but retiring from his or her own mind.
Collins reaches out to the older audience saying that forgetting is a normal process of life, one that
must be accepted. Collins also personifies the phrase the quadratic equation pack(ed) its bag to explain
that important facts are decreasing, showing that the mind has no control later in life. He also uses
personification to give the writing more variation and to

Misogynistic Reason Why The Decameron
One of the lines mentioned by Professor Marchesi in regards to the introduction of The Decameron
stood out to me. The ladies who listen to these tales, In reading them, ...will be able to derive, not only
pleasure...but also some useful advice. The stories of The Decameron are clearly meant to have some
sort of instructive value. However, whether this advice is useful and productive or not is up for debate.
Most of the stories, especially the tenth story of the fifth day, have misogynistic statements. In this
story, an old woman tells a married woman that women exist for no other purpose than to...bear
children (472). This contributes to the limitation of female ambition and the worth with which women
see themselves.

or whatever the people believed, and shrugged it off.
However, when Natsu and his team returned after taking down one of the corners of the infamous

The thrill that flooded his veins at the defeat of Jura was addicting. He was strong. Of course, he d
known he was strong anyway, but defeating one of the ten wizard saints was important. He felt like he

because he hadn t been powerful enough. Now, he had not only single handedly defeated his father
and his guild, but he also beat a wizard saint.
But then the dragons happened, and suddenly he was one of the only people with the ability to actually
do anything. To kill a dragon was the reason for his power, the purpose of his magic, and he was
determined to do so. Last time he saw a dragon, Acnologia itself, even the power of four dragon
slayers was not enough, but now he was stronger, and he would protect everyone.
When he heard that Cobra, the poison dragon slayer, was also fighting, he briefly wondered whether
he also wanted to prove himself. Because despite the attitude, and the fights, and the anger, they weren

Homelessness Of The Ozarks And Its Effect On Mental Illness
Homelessness in the Ozarks and its Effect on Mental Illness in Older Adults
Landon Green
Missouri State University
Homelessness In the Ozarks: Then to Now The issue my team chose to research and tackle was
homelessness in the Ozarks. Specifically, we wanted to look at the demographics of the issue and then
ultimately we wanted to look into the effects the issue of homelessness is having on another serious
issue, mental illness, and vice versa. The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines homelessness as one
having no home or permanent place of residence. It defines mental illness as any of a broad range of
medical conditions that are marked primarily by sufficient disorganization of personality, mind, or
emotions to impair normal psychological functioning and cause marked distress or disability and that
are typically associated with a disruption in normal thinking, feeling, mood, behavior, interpersonal
interactions, or daily functioning. Some of the examples of mental illnesses given by Merriam Webster
are major depression, schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive disorder, or panic disorder. The main
aspects of the issue that will be covered are the current status of the issue, the causes, current
organizations involved in finding solutions, and what more needs to be done. Looking at the status of
homelessness from the past to the present, we can see that there has been a drastic increase in the
percentage of homeless. In a 2013 Statewide Homelessness Study

Applying Two Kinds Of A Spherically Symmetric...
In this work, we consider two kinds of a spherically symmetric semiconductor quantum dots: (a) type
I single quantum dot (SQD) with radius r_1, in which electrons and holes are confined in the same
region of space, and (b) type II core/shell quantum dot (CCQD) with the same core radius, r_1, coated
with shell thickness t=r_2 r_1, in which the spatial confinement of electrons and holes depends
strongly on the geometrical parameters (core radius and shell thickness) and strain effects. Due to the
potential structure of CdSe/CdTe CCQD, electrons mainly reside in the CdSe core region, while the
holes dwell mainly in the CdTe shell region. This separation is shown in Fig. 1. For clarity, we
designate the band gap energy, the conduction band minimum (CBM) and the valence band maximum
(VBM) of bulk semiconductor materials in the unstrained case by E_g0^i, E_c0^i and E_v0^i,
respectively. E_c^i and E_v^i denote the bulk band edges of each nanoheterostructure compound
including strain effect. In this paper, the index i=1,2,3 refers to the CdSe region (1), CdTe region (2)
and the external medium (3), c(v) holds for conduction (valence) band and e(h) holds for electron
(hole). E_g and V_(e(h)) are the bulk gap energy and the electron (hole) confining potential of
strained hetero nanocrystal, respectively. In Fig 1, ε_1, ε_2 and ε_3 are dielectric constants of core,
shell and external medium, respectively. For simplicity, we assume that the potential outside each kind

Make and Receive Telephone Calls Make and Receive Telephone Calls This unit is about making and receiving telephone calls and transferring calls, when necessary, in a business environment. 1 Understand how to make telephone calls. 1.1 Describe the different features of telephone systems and how to use them. Telephone systems have many different features this allows us to handle and manage calls in a professional manner. Call holding places a caller on hold so you can perform another task. Whenever you make a call you are your companies representative so it is always important to be as polite and as helpful as possible as this may in turn create more custom for your business. 1.6 Explain the purpose of summarising the outcomes of a telephone conversation before ending the call. Summarising is important so both parties involved are sure of the information that has been exchanged, it also ensures all questions are answered fully. For example during a long conversation about several different products your company produces you say £5 per unit but the caller thinks you said 5 units per £ so summarising will prevent misunderstanding and incorrect information being relayed in a different company. Also if the conversation was long some finer details may have been missed simply due to the large amount of information discussed. Some companies have a policy were a courtesy email is sent to the caller in which all the information from the call has been summarised and additional information can be added. 1.7 Describe how to identify problems and who to refer them to. When a call comes into the office always take a name (full if possible and preferably) and the company they are calling from, try and obtain from the caller either what the problem is exactly or from which department the problem arisen from and if they know who within the department they spoke to. • 4. The Case for Contamination, by Kwame Anthony Appiah In the article, The Case for Contamination , by Kwame Anthony Appiah, the author focused on globalization and its effects on the world. He stressed how new innovations and traditions, rooted from modernization, are essentially contaminating age old customs and values. Appiah used examples from his personal experiences to illustrate the shift from traditional customs to modern practices within cultures. Although the author explained how globalization adversely affects traditional values and cultures, he also stressed the importance of free will and that ultimately, the people choose which course of action globalization will take on humanity. Though that may be true, the fact still remains that the world is being contaminated with new, modern innovations and values, and globalization is negatively affecting society. The world consists of almost 200 countries. Within those countries, you find millions of people from all shapes, colors, and sizes. They may look different, think differently, wear peculiar clothing, and even speak another language, but as humans, though we may fear it, we find that exciting experiencing something outside of our comfort zone. With globalization, new technologies and ideologies become prevalent and traditional practices become almost extinct. In the article, Appiah discussed his first hand experience on the effects of globalization in his home country of Ghana. He attended a ceremony where he assumed traditional festivities would take place, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When I arrived at the front of the museum I was surprised and amazed how beautiful was the front entrance. The unique design and the gigantic pillared building attracted me. I was really confused at first when I looked at the art work and it took me a while to figure out what the art really means to its viewer. In general, the visual elements present in the art work like color, shape, lines, curves, and the subject itself are most remarkable visual features. While viewing this piece of art one thing you will notice is the color shade and the sharpen lines of the artwork attracts the viewers and hold you up for a while. • 6. Condoms And Birth Control Although most parents frown upon their children having sex, safe sex is still important, which is why condoms and birth control should not be permitted by the parents. For centuries now, most parents have made a point that sex is forbidden until marriage or until they have moved out the house. The effect of that, teens are very reluctant about letting their parents know that they are sexually active. So, why would a teen ask a parent to set them up on birth control, knowing they don t allow sex in the first place? They would not, unless they had some kind of death wish. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First off, in this world of 2017, sex is one of the biggest topics that stays trending. It is on television, in magazines, books and even in commercials. It is a tight subject to be on, and your outlook on it can either make or break how people even look at you. So, if a teen is to get in a relationship, or maybe even just a fling, sex will be brought up soon. A teen who will stay sex free in this generation will more than likely suffer for social insecurities, self esteem issues and could even become sexually confused. Since the teen is not able to express his or her sexuality when needed, they bottle it up and keep it inside, causing mixed feelings on what sex should and should not be like. In the future, this could cause problems between whomever they marry. They never got to express it, therefore they don t know what they like until it is too late, which could also cause early divorce as well. The teen will also soon grow sexually frustrated, and irritable. Fighting normal sexual urges, while dealing with hormones can take a lot out on the brain, causing them to lash out, and push others away. The teen will then find another way to relieve stress and express themselves, which could be very violent or illegal. Not to mention the social insecurities they will endure during their teen years. From a very young age, I knew that I wanted to be involved in one day being a leader that constructs policy. With this calling in mind, I have always been a fan of political history. There have been many great achievements in the realm of domestic politics and foreign policy, but there are also examples of extraordinary failure. These failures demonstrate what works when one seeks to build a team and make decisions that affect the lives of millions of people. One such failure that comes to mind is the failed Bay of Pigs invasion. The invasion was a plan to topple the Cuban government, with a group of Cuban expatriates with the support of the U.S. government. The invasion was a complete failure. Although Kennedy was known to have a cabinet and set of advisors, which came from the best schools and were supposed to be the best in the business they failed to notice even the most obvious flaws in their plan. In short, there were numerous flaws, ranging from the expected reaction of the Cuban populace, the capacity of the Cuban military and all around faulty intelligence. In fact, many of these issues were never even addressed, while the plan was being discussed. Many of these issues were based on faulty intelligence, which was never questioned. Irving Janis, wrote a book called Group Think, which examined these fiascos like these along with many others. The premise was simple, why do groups of what we consider very smart ... Cargill targets commodity markets in Asia, yet it prefers the Western markets for experimental and marketing oriented commerce. As a commodity company, Cargill targets resource markets, however its marketing activities tend to concentrate in the West because in USA or Europe Cargill has a better foothold. Instead its commodity and mass produced goods are spread in the rest of the world with an exception of Sri Lanka, where the company holds a retail chain (Seas of Change, 2010). Marketing activities in the West are more horizontally integrated: in a joint with Coca Cola, Cargill devised sugar free sweetener for sugar conscious market in USA (Cargill,2013). Efficient work can be seen behind Cargill s R D team which correctly identified American market accounting for nearly 80% of reduced fats/sugars market (Confectionery,2011) .

In 1756 Calcutta was invaded by Bengal and its Muslim ruler. The Bengalis punished and killed the British, in what is known as the Black Hole of Calcutta. The British quickly took offense and attacked the Bengalis. The British were able to win back Calcutta. Calcutta started to become a major source of trade, which rooted the class divisions even deeper. The city was flourishing and providing England with the money they had hoped for. After the abolition of the East India Company in 1858, Calcutta, unfortunately, transformed into a city overflowing with impoverished and ill people. Then in 1905 The Partition of Bengal took place. This separated the Hindus from the Muslims. The Partition, as well as the creation of Pakistan, which became dominantly Muslim, led to mass immigration of refugees. Most of the citizens lived in bustis, or slums, continuing to today. In 1977 the Communist party rose to power, with the help of the Bengali elite. It served as the longest reigning elected communist government ever. They were able to gain power due to the horrid living conditions and the confusion caused by the refugees escaping into Calcutta. • 16. Persuasive Literary Devices In Could We Be Amusing... Could We Be Amusing Ourselves to Death? The evolution of technology has become indescribable. Technology is prevalent in our society, as well as its portrayal in the media, a seemingly essential aspect of our everyday lives. Although many idolize how technology has improved our lives, many fail to recognize technology s faults. By using three persuasive literary devices (pathos, logos, and ethos), Neil Postman expresses his concern for technological advancement and possible failure in the book Amusing Ourselves to Death. Logos appeals to logic; when using a persuasive device such as logos, you are using logical reasoning to appeal to the reader. When using logos, you must include facts, statistics, and citing credible sources. By using ethos, the author conveys his ideas while being well aware of what he is talking about by utilizing credible sources. Pathos, however, conveys the author s ideas by appealing to the reader s emotions. Postman does an outstanding job of orchestrating a piece using the most popular persuasive elements. Postman was able to incorporate all three of these devices into his book, but the most prominent one in my opinion, and that helps to best convey Postman s point, is logos; statistics and facts are two things you very rarely can fight against. Over and over Postman uses facts on how the media is basically dumbing us down. For example, Postman pointed out that with the rise of the televised age there was then a decrease in literacy. ... Last year, the state enacted immigration reform of its own after tiring of seeing politicians of all stripes kick the problem down the road. But here s the thing the reforms worked. The state s unemployment rate fell 0.6%, and a lot of those new jobs that were created were specifically attributed to companies hiring Americans after shedding their illegal workers (Munro, 2011). So what is it about immigration reform? Everybody knows that we need it. And on many points, everybody agrees. Yet at the federal level, nothing seems to ever get done, leaving it to the states to create an inherently inefficient system of patchwork laws. What we need is for someone to take charge of this issue in the White House and in Congress it really does not matter who and actually implement meaningful immigration reform. Illegal immigration causes nothing but problems for America and for Americans. Illegal immigrants undercut American workers for jobs. In many states they are eligible for various forms of public assistance despite not paying taxes, and this happens even in conservative states like Texas and Arizona (Ferrari, 2011). A patchwork of state laws is not going to address this issue adequately, but merely push the problem around the country from one state to another. • 22. The Human Mark On The Environment Sedentism and domestication represent not just a technological change but also a change in worldview. Land was no longer a free good, available to anyone, with resources scattered randomly across the landscape; it was transformed into particular territories, collectively or individually owned, on which people raised crops and flocks. Thus, sedentism and a high level of resource extraction (whether by complex foraging or farming) led to concepts of property that were rare in previous foraging societies. Graves, grave goods, permanent housing, grain processing equipment, as well as the fields and herds, connected people to places. The human mark on the environment was larger and more obvious following sedentization and the rise of farming; people transformed the landscape in more dramatic ways building terraces or walls to hold back floods. One of the more dramatic effects of settling down was the change in female fertility and the rise in population. A number of different effects together caused the population to grow.Among modern foragers, a woman s pregnancies tend to be spaced three to four years apart because of the extended period of breastfeeding characteristic of these societies. Extended means not just that children are weaned at three to four years of age but that they still nurse whenever they feel like it, as frequently as several times an hour (Shostak 1981, 67). Usually art that vents the feelings of the artist occur around times or events that evoke emotions powerful enough to provide a muse for artwork. Some art styles, such as Dadaism and Internet Art, can directly tie their absurdist means to what was happening in that time. But do the time periods in which those art styles were popular relate to the meaning behind the art? The similarities between Dadaism and Internet/Postinternet art show the state of disarray and lack of hope for the future that millennials have revived. Yet often times so much is buried in our lives that we fail to remember or recall what we have learned. Billy Collin s Forgetfulness shows how memories are delicate and fragile, and that the process of forgetting is one that is nonchalant. Collins uses words that are fused with loss and melancholy when he says night and war which indicate a tonal shift. He then also mentions the moon drifting out of a love poem, an emotional memory that one will never be able to recall again. The tone shift is also seen specifically through the words denoted in the poem; such as slip and float which imply a sense of a gradual and smooth process of forgetting. Collin s purpose of evoking emotion to the reader and signifying the continual process of forgetting is revealed through small attention to detail such as the common diction and personification. Collins uses very clever and witty images to describe the process of forgetting to ironically make it seem that memories are not as important, although they are significant in individuals lives: the memories you used to harbor decided to retire to the southern hemisphere of the brain. Here Collins plays on the idea of an older person retiring not only from a job, but retiring from his or her own mind. Collins reaches out to the older audience saying that forgetting is a normal process of life, one that must be accepted. Because despite the attitude, and the fights, and the anger, they weren t the real deal. They were experiments, artificially made, and what right did they have to call themselves dragon slayers if they couldn t even slay a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Homelessness Of The Ozarks And Its Effect On Mental Illness Homelessness in the Ozarks and its Effect on Mental Illness in Older Adults Landon Green Missouri State University Homelessness In the Ozarks: Then to Now The issue my team chose to research and tackle was homelessness in the Ozarks. Specifically, we wanted to look at the demographics of the issue and then ultimately we wanted to look into the effects the issue of homelessness is having on another serious issue, mental illness, and vice versa. The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines homelessness as one having no home or permanent place of residence. It defines mental illness as any of a broad range of medical conditions that are marked primarily by sufficient disorganization of personality, mind, or emotions to impair normal psychological functioning and cause marked distress or disability and that are typically associated with a disruption in normal thinking, feeling, mood, behavior, interpersonal interactions, or daily functioning. Some of the examples of mental illnesses given by Merriam Webster are major depression, schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive disorder, or panic disorder. The main aspects of the issue that will be covered are the current status of the issue, the causes, current organizations involved in finding solutions, and what more needs to be done. Looking at the status of homelessness from the past to the present, we can see that there has been a drastic increase in the percentage of homeless. In a 2013 Statewide Homelessness Study ... • 34. Applying Two Kinds Of A Spherically Symmetric... In this work, we consider two kinds of a spherically symmetric semiconductor quantum dots: (a) type I single quantum dot (SQD) with radius r_1, in which electrons and holes are confined in the same region of space, and (b) type II core/shell quantum dot (CCQD) with the same core radius, r_1, coated with shell thickness t=r_2 r_1, in which the spatial confinement of electrons and holes depends strongly on the geometrical parameters (core radius and shell thickness) and strain effects. Due to the potential structure of CdSe/CdTe CCQD, electrons mainly reside in the CdSe core region, while the holes dwell mainly in the CdTe shell region. This separation is shown in Fig. 1. For clarity, we designate the band gap energy, the conduction band minimum (CBM) and the valence band maximum (VBM) of bulk semiconductor materials in the unstrained case by E_g0^i, E_c0^i and E_v0^i, respectively. E_c^i and E_v^i denote the bulk band edges of each nanoheterostructure compound including strain effect. In this paper, the index i=1,2,3 refers to the CdSe region (1), CdTe region (2) and the external medium (3), c(v) holds for conduction (valence) band and e(h) holds for electron (hole). E_g and V_(e(h)) are the bulk gap energy and the electron (hole) confining potential of strained hetero nanocrystal, respectively. In Fig 1, ε_1, ε_2 and ε_3 are dielectric constants of core, shell and external medium, respectively. For simplicity, we assume that the potential outside each kind of nanocrystal is ...
