An environmental impact assessment identifies the environmental aspects and impacts of a proposed project. It provides a systematic and documented evaluation of the social, environmental, and economic impacts, as well as possible preventions, remedial measures, and alternatives. Environmental aspects are elements of a project's activities, products, or services that can interact with the environment, while impacts are any resulting changes to the environment. Impacts are characterized by their nature, magnitude, extent, duration, uncertainty, reversibility, likelihood, and significance. Impacts can be direct, indirect, cumulative, or residual. The assessment identifies alternatives to reduce negative impacts.
