KVKs, or Krishi Vigyan Kendras, are agricultural extension centers in India that aim to disseminate new agricultural technologies to farmers. Their performance can be evaluated based on several indicators, including their leadership, need assessment and planning, innovative programs, support from partner institutions, resources and facilities, impact assessments, and overall performance ratings from assessments of 78 KVKs.

• Leadership
• Need assessment, long run planning, focused programs covering
wide range of needy, creative innovations, cross learning, scaling up
and implementation culture and record
• Support of ZPD, Host institution and surrounding institutions
• Location, wide awareness about presence and reputation of host
institution
• Adequate staff, critical resources, basic facilities including IT and
net connectivity, progressive personal policy, work friendly rules,
incentives for performance
• Rapport/personal touch and convergence with research system,
farmers, development departments, Private sector, Banks,
Insurance and other input and service agencies

delivery, documentation, M&E system,
professional analysis, effective
communication, system-wide influence,
replicable evidence of development impact
• Assessed the performance of 78 KVKs, 24 in
person remaining through travel workshops
• In general KVKs are doing well, about 30%
performers, 50% average and 20% poor
