1. IDENT PACKAGE
• This section is where you will be planning your overall
ident ‘package’
• This should include all design docs for your idents (min. 3
for the package)
• You should ensure that your package has a consistency of
design, font, colour, tone, etc
• Consider giving you ident package a working title, try and
use a title that defines your concept

CONCEPT
Summarise your concept in a single statement, how does it fit the
audience and best represent the channel type you are working on? You
could add in visual aids to fully express this.
Channel type: Universal Entertainment, this means that my channel will
have very neutral Idents that appeal to all audiences.
General concept: Because my channel is Universal Entertainment I have
kept my Ident simple and visually pleasing. The Ident logo consists of a
3x3 white square grid. The Ident will be track an object or tracking
something towards the object that has squares on it, for example a
building which windows that match the 3x3 ratios on my logo design
(top right). For this idea I will have the camera pan around showing a
whole city then get closer to a specific skyscraper with a 3x3 shape. As
the camera meets it’s requirement the logo will fade in overtop of the
windows and squares will start to fill the screen. Inside the 3x3 squares
will either be different cultures, locations or TV programs that are
broadcasted on the channel itself; whilst these are playing I will have
the grid text fade in from left to right letter by letter similar to the
Oneness Idents.

LOGO DESIGN
Show your plans for the logo, as a minimum:
• intended animations [you could show a test using frame animation in Photoshop for example]
• how the logo looks in different colours
• Mock ups using still frames from TV programmes

SOUND DESIGN
What are sound design plans? How do you intend to create these? Include
some tests.
For the sound I will have two different sounds playing at the same time, the
Idents background noise, for example the wind outside a 40 story skyscraper
and the TV show sound from the program playing inside the squares. For
example in this Ident mock up with the building and blue planet. I will have
wind form outside the skyscraper play in the background but slowly lower as
the blue planet show fades in turning the decibels up.
Here I have created a sound affect
that would go perfectly with the Ident
without the voice over of narrator for
the next show.

MOTION GRAPHICS AND
COMPOSITING TECHNIQUES
Explain the techniques you are using in your idents – you MUST
include a motion track, composite shots using at least some
original filmed footage and animated graphics [logo and/or text]
I will be using all of the techniques that are required in the Ident. I
will use motion tracking on the logo having it track to the side of
the building, shown in the example with the dolphins.
I have created a separate animation for the
logo using Photoshop; the logo consists of 9
squares that fade in like a spiral to form a 3 x
3 grid.
If I was to use a camera to produce this I
would either need a helicopter or drone to
capture the windows on the skyscraper.
Throughout the Ident as the white boxes form
the 3 x 3 grid the squares will replace with
whatever show is broadcasting next. In this
example they are replaced with dolphines
underwater as blue planet 2 is broadcasted

IDENT 1
Include:
• Simple storyboard
• Photoshop mock up
• Notes on sound, animation and design decisions
• Tracking building when comes into view.
• Sound: City background noise (low sound
traffic).
• You may need to add further slides
General Ident idea: For this Ident I will have a city sky line with the camera flying
between skyscrapers. The camera will pan around until it shows the viewer it’s
location. It will then pan slowly onto one building with grid shapes windows. The
camera will slowly get closer to the windows until it can only see the windows
another nothing else. At this point the logo sequence will begin covering the
windows with the white squares. As the rest of the squares are fading in I will
have the TV program that is playing next fade match the squares that are fading
in to create a smooth sequence.
For this Ident I have chosen to use a windy sound mixed with
a low traffic noise which will be behind the wind noise to
create a high up effect to help make the camera more
believable.

IDENT 1 STORYBOARD
The idea of this sequence is to have the camera fly through the sky between
the a city of skyscrapers whilst panning around showing the location, the
camera then focuses on one building in particular and gets closer and closer
until it’s close enough for the Ident logo to begin as the skyscraper windows
need to be the same size as the Ident logo for the logo to play.

IDENT 2
Include:
• Notes on sound, animation and design
decisions
• Track a person ending up in the Ident
logo location
• Nature sounds, birds, wind and tree
rustling.
General Ident idea: For this Ident I will be tracking a person getting their bicycle out
of their garage and following them until we reach the grass where there camera
will carry on tracking onto the grass eventually ending up facing a set of tiles set
out as a 3x3 grid on the grass. Once facing the 3x3 tiles the logo sequence will
begin thus ending the Ident.
For the sound I have used an outdoor ambient sound effect that
will go behind the original audio recorded when filming.

IDENT 2 STORYBOARD
For this sequence the camera will be panning in the beginning of the shot then
track the person pushing the bike until they reach the edge of the gravel where
the camera breaks of from tracking the person and carries on moving onto the
grass which then finds the tiles which are shaped in a grid, at this point the
camera will turn into a birds eye view angle and the Ident logo will start

IDENT 3
Include:

decisions
• Move down a corridor into a classroom.
• College background noise (chatting,
shuffling etc)
General Ident idea: For this Ident I will use York College as my location. The
classrooms on floor 2 have square grid carpets which match nicely with my
Ident logo. I will have the camera move slowly down the hallway into one of
the classrooms then have the camera position in a birds eye view of the
carpet allowing the logo to being it’s sequence.
For the sound I will be using the audio generated from filming the
Ident and from different sources that will create a college
background affect.

IDENT 3 STORYBOARD
For this sequence the camera will begin at the end of a hallway inside york
college. When the Ident begins the camera will slowly move down the corridor
looking left when it connects to another corridor then back to the center. After
reaching a certain door the camera will go through the door into the classroom
and will pan slowly around. At this point the camera can see the grid squares on
the floor which is the carpet. The camera will then find the point where the Ident
logo will play and will go into a birds eye view angle letting the logo sequence

FINAL IDENT TO
PRODUCE
Which Ident are you going to move to production? Why have you
chosen this one? Consider viability, techniques, costs, etc.?
For my final Ident choice I have chosen to create the second Ident. The
second Ident will be taking place at my own home using square tiles
which are placed in the front yard. The tiles will be used to form a grid
shape consisting of a 3x3 layout in the middle with left over tiles
surrounding it. This will be used for the logo to track onto when
starting. Because the Ident is shot outside, I’ll be able to shoot the Ident
at any time of day which can help relate to what time of day the Ident is
playing on the television. This allows for multiple Idents as I can create
the same Ident at a different time of day. Another reason is the costs,
the location requires no travel and no production time period there for
saving money. The techniques I will be using are generally tracking with
a small panning shot. The camera will also be zooming out once it
reaches the requires tracking point for the logo sequence to begin.
There will be one actor in the Ident and one crew member which will
help behind the scenes. The main reason I have chosen to create this
Ident is because of it’s flexibility and that I can basically film the Ident
whenever.

STORYBOARD/SEQUENCE
PLANNING
• Sequence plan:
The whole sequence is going to be one shot consisting of multiple
techniques. For the beginning of the shot I will be using a panning shot
which will track/follow the actor as they open a garage door, grab their bike
and then walk with their bike towards the Logo location. As they walk past,
the camera will pan slowly and follow them from behind, breaking off as they
reach the end of the gravel. This is the point where the grass and tiles
become visible in the shot. At this point the actor will go off the camera view
and the camera will carry on moving forward onto the grass. At this point the
tiles will be fully visible and the camera will then change it’s angle into a bird
eye view, I will use a ladder off camera to have the camera slowly move
upwards in the birds eye view angle similar to the 2007 BBC one bicycle
Ident where the camera uses the birds eye view angle to create a circle
using the cyclists and slowly moves up (although they use a helicopter).
Whilst the camera is moving upwards once it reaches a certain point the
logo sequence will begin marking the point where the narrator begins (if I
have one) and the end of the Ident, as the logo fades in the TV program
broadcasting will play in in side some of the squares. The TV program will
either fade in with the rest of the logo squares that surround the main 3x3
grid or will replace the initial logo squares from the start but I believe this

SOUND PLANNING
How I acquire the sound: For finding the right audio for the Ident I could either,
produce my own audio tracks using a recorder or find existing professional
tracks on the internet. My main idea is to firstly create my own audio tracks and
see how they turn out, if these don’t work then I will resort to finding
professional audio tracks which will fit well with the Ident, I will find these using
the internet and websites like SoundCloud and YouTube. Due to the fact that the
Ident needs to be royalty free meaning that I can only use what I create. Because
of this; this option might not work.
What the audio will sound like: The audio in the Ident will be a calm outside
everyday track. It will have birds and traffic playing in the foreground and
background and will also consist of the audio that the camera picks up whilst
filming the Ident.
Voice audio: For the voice over (the casting voice which explains what show is
next) I will either record my own or a voice actor’s voice to voice over the Ident.
This process will be carried out during the post production process as I want to
see the visual sequence before deciding weather to add voice audio to the Ident.

TIMESCALE
Time the production will take: Production for the Ident will begin
on the 9th starting with filming the Idents visuals first, this will
last the whole weekend taking up the 9th and 10th. Post
production begins on Monday 11th after the filming and editing
will begin. Firstly I will use this week to create the sequence and
implement most of the special effects and major edits for
example, color correction, the logo animation and adding the TV
show into the logo. After this week I will spend the following
weekend cover over a general plan for the next week, a brief
plan would be to finish the post production and give the Ident
it’s final touches, this will be done by the 20th or sooner.
How long the Ident will last: The Ident will last anywhere
between 30-60 seconds depending on the voice audio
How long the audio will play in the Ident: The background audio
will be playing throughout the whole Ident. The voice audio will
be decided through the post production process as I need to
see a full visual sequence before deciding to add it.

footage as I did not have a steady cam when filming causing the footage to be
shaky.

METHODS OF PRODUCTION
What methods of production have you used – e.g. motion tracking, green
screen, compositing, etc
Remember, you must include motion tracking, parallax/motion graphics,
composited shots in your sequence
I used motion tracking in the final shots but because the background wasn’t
moving much you can’t tell the logo is following. Used parallax motion graphics to
create the logo animation using Photoshop.

SOFTWARE & FILE MANAGEMENT
Which software have you used and how have you managed your files
List specific types of files formats chosen [mov, aac, etc] and why –
consider working docs and export docs
I have used Adobe premiere pro to create my footage sequence, I could
have made the sequence in after effects but because of the render time
and how the program works it’s much easier and faster to use Adobe
premiere pro.
I have used Adobe after effects to add in small effects and colour
grading to the sequence. I also used it to create the animation for the
text.
I have used Adobe photoshop to create the Logo animation that
consists of 3x3 squares. This program was also used to create mockup
Idents before finalizing my ideas.
All the file formats used: .psd (photoshop), .aep (after effects), .mov
(movies/video), .prproj (premiere pro), .jpg (photos) and .png (photos)

QUALITY CONTROL
How have you gone about maintaining a high quality product
through your process and production?
Firstly I have made sure that all the footage is perfectly shot
and is the way I need it. I have compared my work to others
and taken ideas from them and applied it to mine for
example, changing the colour grading or adding in solar
flares. I have considered a huge range of different ideas and
have decided to produce what I believe will produce the best
results.

TIME MANAGEMENT
Explain your process and how you have managed your time effectively:
I first begun by carrying out research on existing Idents and how people
design and make them, this took around a week or so as I wasn’t too
family with Idents in the beginning so research was very necessary in
this process. After doing enough research I began designing my own
Ident and planned out how it was going to look through drafts and how I
was going to make it, this process took another week or so as I wasn’t
sure what I wanted to make at the time so it took some thought. After
finishing the planning I began producing the Ident, producing the Ident
itself was the hard part. After filming it the first time I wasn’t happy so I
scrapped the footage and decided to shoot it, this time the footage
turned out good and I was pleased with what I had created but then I
lost my USB containing my footage and all my files so I had to use my
phone to film the Ident instead. Without the proper equipment my Ident
turned out terrible and shaky. This process took a few weeks.

FITNESS FOR PURPOSE
How does your ident package match up to professional
productions? Compare/contrast against similar channels.
How does your work compare? What works/doesn’t
work/how could you improve it?
My Ident package is similar to Channel 5’s Idents as it has the
same concept of matching the logo with the visuals. When
comparing my work to a professional work it’s terrible, it lacks
most aspects and editing and is extremely short. One huge
improvement I would make is to add 3D motion tracking to so I
can add more shots of the grid before using the birds eye view
(couldn’t use the other footage because it was too shaky and
warp stabilizer looked terrible)

LEGAL & ETHICAL
What legal and ethical considerations have you had to
consider in your ident package? How have you worked with
these to maintain your product
One problem I was facing was catching the next door neighbors
house in the shot, I decided to not include this footage as it was
too shaky anyway which avoided the problem. Other than that
nothing else was considered.
