The NFL Lockout Essay
Business deals happen every day; Contracts expire, renew, and are negotiated without the public
knowing for many large corporations and even sporting leagues. However, some contract changes
cannot escape the media s attention. The National Football League (NFL) is facing an expiration of its
Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) (NFL Lockout Now One Month Old). Currently, the
agreement has expired and NFL team owners have selfishly chosen to lock the players out. The term
lockout means that the players are essentially not allowed to participate in any team activities or duties
until the owner s rescind this lockout. While many believe this is simply a battle between team owners
and a player union, it can only appear to most as a selfish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Never the less, we need to look deeper into the negotiations to see what is really being argues and who
is genuinely at fault. One of the bigger arguing points of the expiration and creation of the new
Collective Bargaining Agreement was the expansion of the football season from 16 games to 18
games. While, at the surface this may seem as though it is simple two games , it would be a dramatic
change to many season aspects. Firstly, this would reduce the number of pre season games from four
to two. This lessens the team s real life preparation time. Which gives both players and coaches real
scenarios to base decisions about who to play, what players to release from the team and generally
how to plan for their seasons. Another great thing about preseason is it gives fans a chance to see their
teams in a cheaper setting, as these games normally do not have full price tickets. Additionally, there
was great concern from players about health reasoning, as a 16 game season is already cruel to a
football player s body. Many players are often on the sideline for at least a small portion of the season
with some sort of injury. Adding two more games only increases the chances for injury, which is
accelerated with the short preparation time in a shorter preseason. You may ask at this point, what the
owner s standpoint may be. Unfortunately, it is most simply as being stated to recuperate more income
from potential income losses. Obviously, the owners only see money in the

Analysis Of I Lean Over The Chasm Rail
I lean over the chasm rail. No one is here, so I shouldn t be seen. I am wearing a black T shirt, but I
haven t looked at my arms. I have decided I will just take a look. I move my arm so I can examine the
self inflicted wounds. God, I am so stupid. Why would I choose to stay here if I hate it so much? Why
am I still living if I hate myself? I run a hand over my scars, flinching at some points because the areas

gorgeous, too. I remember how after the Choosing Ceremony, which was a few weeks ago, at
lunchtime, after all of the transfers changed from the colors of their previous factions changed into
black, I was sitting alone, as always, only this time, I wasn t sitting alone the entire half hour. Lex
came over, sat down, and we just talked for the remaining minutes. I pull a pocket knife out of of the

The Effects Of Physical, Mechanical, And Electrochemical...
Summary of:
An experimental study on the effects of physical, mechanical, and electrochemical properties of
natural cohesive soils on critical shear stress and erosion rate
This article is about the different soils in manitoba rivers and their erosion rate. The study was done
using samples taken near the surface of the river. Samples from northern Manitoba contained brown
clay with high amount of clay, silt and also organic content but samples from the Red River in
southern Manitoba contained grey clay with high plasticity.
Therefore, this study can represent behavior of cohesive river bank erodibility in Manitoba over a
wide range of soil and sediment properties. (Kimiaghalam Et Al.) study is trying to measure different
erosion rates of soil in manitoba rivers. It was conducted by three scientists. Navid Kimiaghalam
works at the University of Manitoba and has a Phd in. Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering,
and Geomorphology.
Shawn P Clark Works at the university of manitoba and has a Phd in Civil Engineering.
Habib Ahmari has a Phd in Civil Engineering and Hydrotechnical Engineering. He works at university
of Texas Arlington and is a senior lecturer there. These scientists measured different erosion rates in
order to learn about the properties that effect erosion. There has been very little study done on this
topic so they had to make sure their research was thorough. In order to do so they used 13 different
soil samples from 3 different locations.

Court of Appeal Holding Clarifies Employer Calculation of Probationary Period
A recent ruling by the California Court of Appeal clarifies when a government employer should
calculate the beginning and end of an employee s probationary period. In California Department of
Correction and Rehabilitation v. California State Personnel Board (2015) Cal.App.5th , the Court of
Appeal held that the first day of the probationary period should be counted when calculating the
probationary period, and therefore, any notice not properly served as required by statute within the
period is defective.
The case revolved around Appellant, McCauley, who was hired as a Correctional Sergeant at Avenal
State Prison. His new position began on December 2, 2008 and was subject to a 12 month
probationary period before becoming permanent. On December 1, 2009, the California Department of
Correction and Rehabilitation (CDCR) served McCauley with a notice of rejection removing him from
the position effective December 8, 2009. On December 2, 2009, another document was served on him
extending his probationary period until December 8, 2009. McCauley contended the papers were
invalid due to the CDCR s failure to comply with timing and notice requirements in relation to the
duration of the probationary period. He appealed to the California State Personnel Board which agreed
with him and revoked the notice of rejection. The CDCR thereafter challenged the finding by filing a
writ of mandate in the trial

Jacob, The, And Jacob
Let us commence a journey into the much travelled topic of Jacob wrestling with God. Jacob portrays
deceitful characteristics throughout Genesis; Jacob gets his name from his twin brother Esau. When
Jacob brother of Esau was born, his brother came out, with his hand grasping Esau s heel; so he was
named Jacob (Gen. 25.26). Part of the reason Jacob is who he is because of his brother Esau. Esau and
Jacob were more than just the typical brothers. Jacob hated Esau. It was all a competition between
them. Esau was born the hunter and Jacob did just enough to get by. They are the sons of Isaac. Jacob
had a past of struggling with God almost as if he was seeking to fulfill his own destiny all on his own.
Jacob had always been trying to seek a life that didn t involve God. The wrestling with God plays a
big part in his overall character. This is true because, when Jacob wrestles with God he comes to him.
Jacob came to God because he realized that he couldn t choose his own destiny and get there with out
God. While he was wresting with God, If the wrestler is unable to overcome Jacob spiritually, it is
because Jacob is not willing to yield. Only when the man threatens to go without offering assurances
of God s help does Jacob show his willingness to negotiate in the critical issues. (Walton 605). Jacob
so desperately wants God, he is clinging to him. Although, he is very stubborn before he submits
himself to God he wants a blessing from him, Jacob s willingness to submit

Children of Broken Homes
CHAPTER 2 REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE This chapter presents the review of related
literature and studies about broken homes and their effects to children s character. The review focuses
on a number of different instruments used to prove that belonging to a broken family is the main cause
for these children to possess strong character. The chapter begins with the definition of broken home,
and then followed by its effects on the children. The struggles faced by these children, and their
perspective in life are discussed. 2.1 RELATED LITERATURE 2.1.1 INTRODUCTION According to

It really brings kids down, when they come home and see that their parents are fighting. Children of
broken families may go on to have commitment issues. Children from broken families are nearly five
times more likely to suffer damaging mental troubles than those whose parents stay together,
government research has found. It also showed that two parents are much better than one if children
are to avoid slipping into emotional distress and anti social behavior. The findings say that children s
family background are as important if not more so than whether their home is poor, workless, has bad
health, or has no one with any educational qualifications. 2.2.5 POSSIBLE EFFECTS TO THESE
CHILDREN 2.2.5.1 EMOTIONAL ASPECT 2.2.5.1.1 BEING INDEPENDENT Children from
broken families nowadays choose to live their life worth it. Because the child has no parents to lean
on, they stand by themselves and hold on to something which will make their lives better. This shows
that even if children suffered from a traumatizing event, they still managed to recover and help
themselves alone which makes them an independent person, a better person in the community. Youth
from broken homes need love and acceptance. They need an accepting environment where they feel
wanted, a sense of belonging and know the joy of being involved in a stable and secure peer group.
Loving youth involves letting them talk openly about

Business Proposal
Business proposal
A business proposal is perhaps one of the most critical documents you need to learn how to write. It is
what spells the difference between success and failure, whether you re a freelancer or you have a
company of your own.
In today s cut throat business world, entrepreneurs find themselves spending hours upon hours
submitting business proposals to potential clients, and not get any results. On the other hand, there are
those that are like snipers, able to get the contract after just submitting one business proposal.
So how do they do it? Well, this article will teach you show you how to do just that.
The Basics of a Business Proposal
Before you even go and start writing that business proposal, you must first understand ... Show more

Pricing Information
For many clients, the pricing information is what will make them decide whether they would offer you
the contract or not.
How to write this part greatly depends on the solution or solutions you included in the previous
segment. If the solution proposed will only entail a short period of time, a Fee Summary will suffice.
For longer projects, segment these payments to specific milestones in a Fee Schedule list.
Things to Remember When Writing a Business Proposal
Now that you know the essentials of a winning business proposal, it s time to go ahead and start
writing, right? Well, not exactly.
The next part is to be able to find out what to put under the 3 Ps so that you can develop a business
proposal that gets their attention and awards you that contract.
Do Your Research
Not all clients and buyers will give you the explicit details of their wants and needs, especially if you
re submitting an unsolicited business proposal. Extend your research9 to include the competitors of
your potential client, and their customers as well. This will ensure that your business proposal will be
as comprehensive and as detailed as possible.
Put Yourself in their Shoes
Another thing to remember when writing a business proposal is to always put yourself in the shoes of
your potential clients. Doing this will help you provide information on things that they would

abortion annually (Negedu, 2011). pregnancies are either mistimed or unwanted among adolescents.
Studies in the past have Indicated that, lack of adequate sexual and reproductive health knowledge
may possibly represent a key factor preventing the complete elimination of unwanted pregnancies, and
unsafe induced abortion among adolescent girls in Nigeria. According to Ipas(2005) unplanned
pregnancies are the result of various factors, including lack of knowledge about menstruation and
pregnancy, lack of access to, and knowledge about how to use contraceptives; difficulties in using
contraceptives because of a partner s or family objections; contraceptive failure; and sexual assault.
Also, adolescents may more often delay seeking care for abortion related complications due to lack of
transportation, lack of knowledge about where post abortion care can be obtained, fears of censure
from their parents and health care providers, fear of legal repercussions, or lack of money to pay for
services (Ipas, 2005). This may be particularly so in rural communities where access to basic in
frastructural facilities remain low and inadequate
1.2 RESEARCH QUESTIONS
The guiding research questions for this study include the following:What is the knowledge level of
adolescent girls about reproductive health issues generally?
What is their level of awareness concerning the existence of family planning services?

Analysis Of Are Too Many People Going To College
Are too many people going to college? A question that I would have never expected or never heard of
until I read the title of the article, Are Too Many People Going to College? , by Charles Murray.
College is where most people strive to be. It s a place to learn and evolve into a human being who will
change and innovate the world, so a question like this startled me and made me really confused as to
why but it also caught my attention. Murray provides us with reasons, examples, and statistics on why
he believes people should or should not go to college. In his article Murray talks about the
compensations that come with a degree, the reality about college, bachelor of arts, liberal education,
core knowledge, and the four years spent at university. Three particularly points that sparked my
interest were: the truth about college, the supposed rewards that accompany a college degree, and the
four years you spend at your desired institution. I will be discussing the many flaws that are contained
within his arguments and will be utilizing logical fallacies, diction, to describe why. One of Charles
Murray points is about college and claims that it s not all the hype It s known to be. Murray provides
us with an example comparing a young male, more specifically a high school graduate, aspiring to get
a business major or settling as an electrician.
He states that he s got talent and has the skills required to be an excellent electrician,

The Dedication Of Abigail Williams And Elizabeth Proctor
Amber Chan American Lit I Ms. Crimmel March 6, 2015 The Dedication of Abigail Williams and
Elizabeth Proctor Arthur Miller creates many unforgettable characters in his play, The Crucible, to
depict the historical events of the Salem witch trials. Although there are many other influential
characters in the town of Salem that cause major events to happen during the trials and are eventually
subject to their consequences, two women were most prominent. As a young, manipulative, vengeful,
jealous, and selfish liar, Abigail Williams feels that she has superiority over everyone and uses this
mindset to accomplish her malicious intentions. Elizabeth Proctor portrays a virtuous, selfless, and
forgiving housewife who can often be cold towards people but still has the courage to face the people
after finding out about her husband, John Proctor s, sin of committing adultery. Despite the numerous
hardships they overcome throughout the play, both women continue to prove their determination
towards achieving their respective goals. In The Crucible, Arthur Miller shows the true dedication of
Abigail Williams and Elizabeth Proctor through their love for John Proctor, realization of their role in
the witch trials, and their influence on their surroundings. Although there are countless differences
between Abigail Williams and Elizabeth Proctor, something they share is their love for John Proctor.

New Forms Of Extreme Vulnerability
Globalization processes have created new forms of extreme vulnerability that disproportionately
impact the welfare of poor women of color living in border cities. As borders have become
increasingly permeable and capitalism has transcended national borders, outsourcing labor has
become a common practice within transnational corporatism. To meet the demands of the global
North, gendered forms of labor have emerged in the global South that have resulted in the exploitation
and abuse of poor women of color. The rising levels of violence that poor, border women are subjected
is one of the multi faceted effects of globalization within border cities. The presence of an informal
economy, existing forms of patriarchal structure, racial hierarchies, and the militarization of borders
all lead to conditions that make female migrant workers across U.S. and Mexican borderlands
denationalized citizens. Because of the state s role in using militarization and policing as forms of
social control, migrant women cannot exercise their citizenship and claim control over their own
bodies. Although globalization is viewed as a phenomenon that improves the living conditions for all,
I argue that it presents complex challenges to women s claim over their own bodies and contributes to
their overall state of rightlessness within borderlands.
The presence of an informal economy alongside the formal economy within border cities neutralizes
sex service and gendered labor. Sexual violence towards women

Juveniles Should Not Be Prison

Different people believe in different things. For example a group of people believe that juveniles
should be sentenced to life in jail if they commit a heinous crime. Then there are people that believe
that the juveniles should not be sentenced to life in prison. I personally belief that Juveniles or young
adults should be sentenced to life in prison if they did commit a heinous crime. I believe in this
because in my belief I feel that if someone took the time to plan a murder or a rape or a killing and
knows it s wrong I feel that they know what they are getting themselves into. I feel that if they take the
time to plan a heinous crime then they are aware of their actions and what they are doing. I personally
believe that every human being knows it is wrong to kill another human being no matter what age you
are. I know that there are people out there that believe a person in jail can change and they have
learned what they have done wrong. I know that young Juveniles people say have changed in prison

Nursing Home Case Study
The duty of nursing homes is to exercise that degree of care, skill and diligence used by nursing
homes in the community. A nursing home does not have to apply the same standard care as a hospital.
Consequently, what is considered negligence in a hospital does not necessary mean it apply to a
nursing home. The duty of a nursing homes depend upon the patient s condition. The patient s
physical and mental ability is determined by the court (Alcoy v Valley Nursing Homes, Inc., 272 S E
2d 301 (Sup. Ct., Va. 2006). Although treatment of a patient is the physician responsibility, a nursing

When a nursing home resident is not capable of providing care for themselves, the nursing home is

The administrator also stated the nursing home was failed to protect the resident from assault. In

We Should Invest Our Tax Dollars Essay
INTRODUCTION
I grew up in South Akron, and graduated from Garfield High school. This high school has meant a lot
to the community and the students that attended it. This is not just a building, but an institution that
has turned out a lot of great minds and professional athletes. Losing the high school in this district
would be devastating. I feel that we should invest our tax dollars in our own city, and worry about the
future of our own child, by keeping Akron schools in the community of Akron.
Purpose
Garfield high along with Kenmore High school have been slotted to be torn down. There are no dates
as of yet to when the projects will start. The removal of these two public two public high schools
would leave the entire southern portion of Akron and nearby Kenmore without a high school in or near
these districts.
Problem
Building the learning site in Kenmore would cause major busing problems. The city already owns the
property of Garfield High school, so why go out and spend money for property, when you have a
property already available? Some people may disagree and say Kenmore is an excellent choice
property wise, and the land is readily available. I feel that we should invest our tax dollars in our own
city, and worry about the future of our own child, by keeping Akron schools in the community of
Akron.
Scope
My proposal for a solution to the problem is to build a new learning center on the site occupied

Headscarf Controversy
French media coverage of the headscarf controversy perpetuates considerable misunderstanding of
Islam and thus the politics of secularism extend to media framing of the tension between religious
minorities and the non religious in a society where secular is hegemonic. In 1989, in a small town
outside of Paris, three girls were expelled for wearing Hijabs. The girls were in no way disruptive, or
incapable academically, however, the event became significant to the reframing of the headscarf as a

The Characteristics Of Intriguing Characters In A Game Of...
1. Introduction
While A Game of Thrones can in many ways be compared to other outstanding works in literature,
whether it is Lord of the Rings for its fantasy setting or Hamlet for themes of love, intrigue, political
games and treachery, what truly make the novel great are its characters. In many novels, one might
argue that the characters are merely a product of their situation and the story, while in A Game of
Thrones the story is in many ways the product of the characters. What I mean by this is that characters
often merely react to events that occur around them, while characters in A Game of Thrones create the
events that build up the story. Therefore I will look at how George R.R. Martin uses creates and uses
intriguing and diverse characters in A Game of Thrones. The world in A Game of Thrones is full of
complex and changing characters with very distinct personalities and some of them change drastically,
which makes it ideal for this type of investigation.

The Role Of Eskimo Culture In Gabrielle Roy s Windflower
Gabrielle Roy s Windflower was analyzed in the interactive oral. The contrast of European/white
culture and Eskimo culture was heavily evident in the novel. The contrast between the role of Eskimo
mothers and white mothers was discussed in the oral. It was said that Eskimo mothers such as Winnie
take care of their families because it is her role for supporting the family and helping them survive
while white mothers such as Madame Beaulieu seem to take care of their families only because they
are not given anything else to do. By understanding the difference in the cultural role of mothers, I am
able to further understand how Elsa wavers back and forth between the two ways of life, and how she
is constantly being influenced by both and

experienced sprinter that already had the privilege to compete in the Summer Olympic Games. Patrick
is struggling to find the difference between right and wrong when faced with illicit drugs used enhance
his performance. This case study includes many key elements related to moral development. Moral
development is the process in which an individual develops the proper mindset towards situations
based on social and cultural norms. Patrick began his moral journey when he encountered obstacles
during his athletic career. His coach began to put pressure on him to improve his performance through
using performance enhancing drugs, ultimately influencing Patrick s thoughts and leading to him

A Study On Smoke Management System
1 LITERATURE REVIEW 1.1 Introduction Buildings with atrium are big challenge for smoke
ventilation system, because if fire is initiated in atrium by any different causes at any level of atrium
where there is amount of fuel to maintain steady heat release rate, there is probability that the fire will
be maintained. Study fire development, smoke layer, temperature distribution and carbon monoxide
concentration is complicated and unstable. Therefore, computational fluid dynamics is useful tool to
analyze smoke management system. FDS (Fire Dynamic Simulator) is frequently used tool in such
type of studies.[1,2]. This chapter presents an overview on the previous work in the field of smoke
management system in atrium. First, study the effect of atrium height and location of exhaust fans on
the smoke movement in atrium buildings Many research centers conduct studies on smoke
management system. The Canadian Foundation for Innovation, (CFI) has approved a proposal by
Carleton University for the development of a unique $10 million, full scale fire research facility. CFI s
contribution to this project is $4.0 million. Other contributing partners include the National Research
Council, the Ottawa Fire Services and the Toronto Transit Commission. Funding is also expected from
the Ontario Innovation Trust. The facility will be used to conduct research to identify fire safety levels
in residential and commercial buildings, as well as transportation facilities, such as tunnels.

Concept Analysis Of Effectiveness In Nursing
Concept Analysis of Effectiveness
Effectiveness, as a concept, is important to nursing. What actions nurses take and do can make a
difference in care and determine whether or not care or treatment is effective. According to Rodgers
(2015) concepts are important in portraying the character and scope of a discipline (Butts Rich, 2015).
However, defining what effectiveness as a concept is, is not unique to nursing. To create a better
understanding of the concept of effectiveness, a glimpse at other discipline s and their incorporation of
the term is beneficial. Isolating the term and the definitions create a basis for understanding the role of
effectiveness. This paper will define the term effectiveness across multiple disciplines and give

Case Examples
Walker and Avant (2005) analysis methods advise applying case examples to represent the meaning of
a concept. Each of the following cases will further define and create understanding of the concept of
effectiveness. First is a model case, showing an ideal use of the concepts. Next will be cases that are
similar in a fashion, but not ideal. Finally will be a contrary case, exemplifying what the concept is
not. Conclusion In conclusion, effectiveness is a large part of nursing, making improvements in
overall health care of patients. The review of effectiveness through definitions, spanning several
different disciplines, gives a solid foundation for understanding the concept. The further building
blocks of the descriptive words, specific to the term effectiveness and case studies, is essential to the
nursing profession to appreciate the concept and provide continued effectiveness in

Introduction to Information Technology
Introduction The environment of information technology is dynamic and fast changing which explains
the changes in current educational systems which could be going in the directional of transformational
than incremental. Some of researchers believe that it might be the end of an era for university
campuses since they have been known currently to be identifying a change within the traditional
paradigm of learning. Even though education is adopting the information technology faster as it is
being considered to be of positive change than negative change, the changes towards this information
technology could be of detrimental to the education. Due to this introduction of information
technology in the education sector, there are many detrimental that can be realized with this, for
example, Joo (1998) argues that teachers could be removed from classrooms. This is because lecturers
are taken to be never anymore a major source of information towards students for materials that they
were using at one time can now be gotten freely to any individual and hence devaluated.
Attendance in classes tends to reduce because students just meet with tutors in any case there is rise of
a problem and if there is a synchronous solution which is needed. Hutchison (1998) as well considers
face to face lecturing little more as compared to filter for the process of learning, even though both
students are capable of studying and learning the curriculum with textbooks which are recommended.

Cruelty In Machiavelli
In The Prince, Machiavelli even discusses the best and most effective ways of using cruelty.
Machiavelli says; I think it s a question of whether cruelty is well or badly used. Cruelty well used is
short lived and decisive, no more than is necessary to secure your position and then stop (The Prince,
XIII). Machiavelli s governing code is completely absent of ethical concerns. He hates Christianity
and is attempting to remove its influence on the mindset of rulers. This indeed would not sit well with
Socrates. He would disapprove of this new moral code and any state governed by it. Socrates believes
that when deciding to perform an action the only consideration you should take is if that action is
ethically sound. Cruelty is objectively unjust and unethical. Socrates would never advocate its use no
matter how beneficial it is to the state. Socrates believes under no circumstances should one
knowingly commit an unjust act. While in prison Socrates, says to Crito; there is no sense in which an
act of injustice is good or honorable (Crito, 49a). Socrates would not support a system that advocates
the use of cruelty and other vicious actions for political gain. Machiavelli and Socrates respective
beliefs on political thought are shaped by how they view the world. Machiavelli looks at the world
through a realist scope. He sees the world as how it is, not how it should be. Machiavelli is often
dubbed the father of realism and his ideal political system reflects that. He believes the paramount
interest of a state is to protect its political autonomy. He instructs princes to be cunning, deceitful, and
constantly suspicious of other rulers. The Prince will be judged by the results of his reign rather than
the means he used to achieve them. War for Machiavelli is good; it allows the Prince to broadcast his
power, instilling fear in other rulers. Socrates would oppose this mindset and outlook on the world. He
would instead take a more idealized approach to political affairs. Socrates would instruct a Prince to
look at other sovereign rulers as potential allies. War, for Socrates, is the last resort, if an option at all.
Socrates prince would work tirelessly to settle disputes with diplomacy

Functional Symbols Of George Janine At Sunrise Senior Living
A diverse family can be defined in many ways. However, after observing some of the individuals at
Sunrise Senior LIving, this can be defined as all the members of a household under one roof. While
residents had their own rooms, and shared if married, everyone was technically under the same roof.
The seniors came together for meal times, spent quality times in the common areas to socialize, and
enjoyed the extracurricular activities that were planned on a weekly basis, along with meeting many
volunteers to light up their day. George Herbert Mead was trusted with expressing the foundations of
the symbolic interaction (SI) theory. It is used to understand how families create meaning. The
premise of this came from his curiosity to understand the way humans create, react to, and redefine the
shared, symbolic meanings in their social environment. As the text mentions, Mead agreed that words
and nonverbal behaviors are the primary symbols to which humans assign meaning. In addition to this
idea, he also explained on the idea that symbolic meanings are heavily influenced by perceptions,
including people s own perceptions and other people s perceptions of them and the social structure
around them. This was particularly for Ms. Janine at Sunrise Senior Living. She was a social butterfly
who seemed to know everything that was going on around the home and most things about the health
conditions some residents were living with. Anytime she sat in the kitchen to unwind, more

What Was The Use Of The Steam Engine During The Industrial...
The steam engine was one of the most important technologies of the Industrial Revolution, although
steam did not replace water power in importance in Britain until after the Industrial Revolution. From
Englishman Thomas Newcomen s atmospheric engine, of 1712, through major developments by
Scottish inventor and mechanical engineer James Watt, the steam engine began to be used in many
industrial settings, not just in mining, where the first engines had been used to pump water from deep
workings. Early mills had run successfully with water power, but by using a steam engine a factory
could be located anywhere, not just close to water. Water power varied with the seasons and was not
available at times due to freezing, floods and dry spells.

Religion Is A Form Of Government
Democracy is a form of government, where a constitution guarantees basic personal and political
rights, fair and free elections, and independent courts of law. (Democracy 2004). Religion and politics
have been long viewed as partners for many and yet some find the relationship a struggle. Religion
usually pertains to an individual or a community of like minded members in the private sector. An
example of such a body of individuals includes church or social organizations. As part of Western
civilization, Americans typically embraced the separation of church and state as they believe that
religion has no place in politics at all. Politics usually apply to the public sector where individuals

How do they impact each other?
According to Wikipedia 2014, Religion is an organized collection of beliefs, cultural systems, and
world views that relate humanity to an order of existence. It is also the most intensive and
comprehensive method of valuing that is experienced by humankind . Religion is often difficult to
identify or define because it overlaps on many different boundaries in human experience. This
complex phenomenon has led many theorists to attempt to form a cohesive definition, however, every
theory has its limitations thus making this task utterly impossible to complete. Religion can also
resolve matters on the private and public sector such as issues regarding life and death, love and sex,
authority and freedom. Although religious traditions often challenge each other, they also offer
individuals with a sense of security and direction. It can also dictate those who are in power versus
those who are not, and often provides validation for imbalances in social, economic, and political
power, as well as structure for advancement and revolutionary change.

governing of a political entity, such as a nation, and the administration and control of its internal and

Local-Color Regionalism in Tennessees Partner Essay
The literary movement of local color regionalism in American literature is a very distinctive and
interesting form of fiction writing that effectively combines regional characteristics, dialect, customs
and humor. In Bret Harte s Tennessee s Partner, these characteristics helped the story jump off the
page, allowing the reader to understand the times rather than just the characters. And, for that reason, I
feel that this is an outstanding piece of work.
One of the most distinguishable characteristics of local color regionalism writing is the usage of
authentic dialect based on the story s setting. In Tennessee s Partner, Harte uses this tactic best when
quoting the title character. For example, when Tennessee s Partner suddenly appears ... Show more

I call.
LYNCH: Two bowers and an ace.
TENNESSEE: That takes me.
Another local color characteristic that Harte used in Tennessee s Partner was the development of
characters based on their setting. The reader never feels like he knows much at all about any of the
characters even Tennessee and his partner at all. In fact, neither does the narrator. But through the use
of description, the two main characters become more stereotypes of miners in the Gold Rush era; they
were typical rugged, gambling, scorched skinned, strong, simple womanizing men.
This much is true with no one more than the title character, as his actions reveal more about the time s
concept of death during his friend s execution and burial rather than going too deep into his own
personal feelings about this particular death. Tennessee s Partner quickly compares his friend s burial
to all the other drunken trips his shouldered with Tennessee in the past and seemingly moves on from
the finality of the situation with ease.
Lastly, Harte uses the setting as a major element of the story, almost turning the vast land of Tennessee
s Partner into a character itself. The settings in most local color stories usually have an emphasis on
nature and the land is usually remote and out of the way, and the setting of this story is no different.

China s Economic Power On A Global Scale
China has established itself as an economic power on a global scale. A national transition in industry,
finance and technology has placed china at the top of the list as an appealing global trade partner.
Chinese Manufacturing has led the way to a boom in exports and recognition for the Chinese
workforce as a world leader in cost effective manufacturing. A shift in work force has provided
inexpensive labor, paired with a strong economy China has also positioned itself among the top world
leaders for global exports. China went from an under developed country to emerge as a leading world
economy among economic powerhouses like the United States and the European Union.
Americas insatiable demand for cheap goods has caused an increased gap in the annual U.S. trade

2015. The United States imports consumer electronics, clothing and industrial machinery from China.
Many of the imports are from U.S. based corporations that send components to China for less
expensive assembly. After assembly the products are shipped back to the U.S market for retail sale.
Although the profits are attributed to American owned companies which are ultimately domestic
entities the merchandise is classified as an import by law. The growing trade deficit with China is a

Outside View of a Large Distribution Center
Outside view of a large distribution center
A distribution center is a building or multiple buildings, that are primarily used as storage. For goods,
that retailers sell in their shops or online platforms. They store these goods until they are ordered to be
distributed, whether to business s or directly to customers. The main purpose for a distribution center
is to hold stock, until it is needed. These centers can often be shared by several small business s to
reduce overheads or are owned outright by larger companies, who rely on having large amounts of
stock, but do not have a large amount of shop space. They are also heavily relied on by online
companies, who use a digital shop platform.
Traditionally large retail chains such as Amazon own their own distribution centers. This minimizes
their overheads, by cutting out the middle man. You will tend to find that large retail chains have more
than one distribution center. They tend to place them strategically throughout the countries that they
ship to. Small independent retailers however cannot afford the overhead costs of owning their own
distribution centers. This means they have to go to third party centers which charge them a much
smaller overhead in comparison. This is because these third party services tend to serve more than one
small retailer. Meaning that the overhead costs are split between multiple business s rather than just
one.

Alcohol Summary
* Executive Summary
In 2001 spirit makers ended a long standing volunteer policy against aggressive alcohol advertising
(Steiner and Steiner, 2009). Since that time, there has been an unprecedented shift toward increased
alcoholic advertisements in an effort to increase market share and raise profits. This shift brings into
light the challenge alcoholic companies face in balancing their fiduciary duties to their shareholders
and their corporate and social responsibility to society.
This report focuses on the issues surrounding Anheuser Busch s Spykes beverage and the corporate
and social issues similarly faced by other alcoholic beverage companies.

From society s perspective, any activities conducted by the alcohol beverage companies to remove
alcohol related problems like violence, decreased morality and intoxication related problems like
drinking driving are seldom advertised and marketed. In this sense, society is only seeing
advertisements related to increased consumption leading to increased profits. Accordingly alcohol
industries fail to fulfill their ethical duty to be informative and truthful in their advertising efforts.
At present, alcohol beverage companies create a brand image by sponsoring sports and cultural
activities that attract drinkers, first starting as a social drinker and then becoming regular drinkers
(Munro amp; De Wever, 2008). The current alcohol advertising regulatory system in Australia should
aim to minimize exposure and appeal to children (VAADA, 2010).
In Australia, advertising activities are regulated by legislation and a code of practice such as the
Advertiser Code of Ethics and Alcoholic Beverages Advertising Code (ABAC). This code is based on
a voluntary system of self regulation which is funded and administered by the alcohol beverage
companies. Currently there are no penalties for non compliance (Jones, Hall amp; Munro 2008).
Additionally, the organisation is partly funded by alcoholic beverage companies. This presents a
conflict of interest as in most instances, their fiduciary duties are act in the best interests of

Different Types Of Cell Cycle
Chapter five primarily covers information about cells, cell division, and the different types of cell
cycles. The cell cycle is a sequence of events that makeup the life of a typical eukaryotic cell, from the
moment of its origin, to the time it divides to produce two daughter cells. Interphase starts off the cell
cycle and it is the longest stage in the cell cycle. Most cells spend 90% or more of their life span in
interphase. Interphase is divided into three main phases G0, G1, S, and G2 phases. This portion of the
cell cycle takes in nutrients; manufactures proteins and other substances, expands in size, and
conducts special functions which depend on the cell type. The G1 phase is the first phase in the life of
a newborn cell, and is known as the gap 1 phase. The S phase is the phase that follows the G1 phase.
In this phase, cells that are destined to divide, preparations for cell division begin during the S phase.
The s in this phase stands for synthesis . This phase is responsible for replication of the cell s DNA,
and this is one of the most important responsibilities performed in this phase. G2 phase occurs after
the S phase but before the start of cell division. The G2 phase is known as the gap 2 phase. The G1
phase, S phase, and G2 phase, each make up the parts of interphase. Cell division is the last stage in
the life of an individual cell. As cell division begins, the cell contains twice the amount of DNA
because of DNA replication in the S phase. The G0

Anxiety is an aroused emotional state distinguished by feelings of apprehension and bodily tension
present when no real danger is present ( Measuring stress and anxiety, 2011). Although used
synonymously in everyday life, they are not the same. Psychologists view stress as a larger construct
than anxiety; anxiety is the deleterious emotional reaction to stressors ( Measuring stress and anxiety,

Voter Registration Fraud Case Study
If accurate voter rolls aren t incentive, then maybe cost saving is. Since regulations very state to state,
it is hard to assess national cost. Considering money is a motivating factor to change, a case study for
registration cost was done using Oregon as the test subject. Pew considered every level of registration.
Beginning locally, it determined printing and postage, staff salaries, and facilities. Additionally, the
Secretary of State incurs expenses related to maintain the voter rolls, providing and distributing
registration forms, training and assisting agencies involved with voter registration, and manning the
toll free call center for public questions regarding registration. All totaled, Oregon spent almost nine
million dollars registering voters for the 2008 election, that s $4.11 per active registered voter or $7.67
per registration transaction (Pew). Compare that cost to Canada, who maintains their voter roll using
automatic registration, with just 35 cents per active voter (Pew). That is a significant cost savings. ...

Arguably, any duplicitous activity surrounding our elections should be investigated and punished
accordingly. Indeed, most allegations of voter fraud turn out to be clerical errors, and individual voter
fraud is rare for two compelling reasons. First, individual fraud begets minimal votes, certainly not
enough to win an election. And second, it comes with a severe penalty (Brennan). Henceforth, our
country needs to find the balance between the possibility of fraudulent elections with the probability
of voter suppression and disenfranchisement. Automatic voter registration not only mends the system,
but also protects it by removing those that would most benefit from voter registration fraud from the
process ie. political parties and partisan third party

The Human Condition By Hannah Arendt
Hannah Arendt s most influential work The Human Condition was published in 1958. It makes
distinctions between labor, work and action, between power, violence and strength and between
property and wealth. It is surprising that more than 55 years later the originality and novelty of this
book is still present. Arendt compels the reader to open their eyes and to look at the world and human
affairs in new ways and with a completely different perspective. In her prologue she professes that she
wants us to do nothing more than to think what we are doing. The Human Condition is associated with
Arendt s work on totalitarianism. The Human Condition and her work on totalitarianism work together
to highlight the contemporary human predicament. Arendt s interest in human affairs was due to her
encounter with Nazis which led to her interest and participation in political activities. Hannah Arendt
developed her philosophy of education during her time in the United States. Her philosophy is shaped
by the political turmoil that played out in public schools at that time. Arendt was influenced by many
philosophers. One sees Jasper s influence in The Human Condition in which Arendt developed this
idea of action: public, political behavior based on communication (Snelgrove, 4). Hannah Arendt was
struck by Cal Marx s picture of individuality which was devoted to production and consumption. For
Arendt this is a revealing representation of modern society in which economic concerns have come

The Ethics Of Gestational Surrogacy
Perhaps one of the greatest human desires is to create and love a child. There are those who, by nature,
do not possess such personal aspiration, seeking preventative measures to avoid conception. Then
there are those thrilled to take on the role of parent, whether or not pregnancy fit into the initial plan.
Still there are those who long for a tiny biological life, which cannot be traditionally conceived or
carried to term due to a failure of mechanisms within the body beyond the control of the intended
parents. Such problematic infertility issues have prompted would be parents to turn to surrogacy
arrangements to acquire a gestational surrogate, a woman who would consent to implantation and of a
couple s embryo created through in vitro fertilization (IVF) and carrying the fetus to termination
should a pregnancy result. Referred to as a Wild, Wild West globalized industry, the United States is a
relatively unregulated playground of opportunity for commercial for hire contractual surrogacy
otherwise found illegal in the majority of developed countries around the world. In terms of state to
state approaches regulating surrogacy reproductive modalities, a patchwork of laws exist from
extreme outlawing of surrogacy, permissibility with limitations, or most favorable flexible allowance
in operation; consumers of surrogacy services are forced to research the market for the most
advantageous forum. There is no current overarching federal law regulating surrogacy

The Colonization Of The Colony Collapse Disorder
Introduction: The Colony Collapse Disorder is a strange occurrence in which worker bees from
different honeybee colonies just disappear. Honeybees, which are a crucial part of the U.S. agriculture,
have been under some drastic stress from the mysterious Colony Collapse Disorder, which is a
syndrome defined as a dead colony with no adult bees or dead bee bodies but with a live queen, honey
and juvenile bees still present in the hive. A scientific cause for the Colony Collapse Disorder has yet
to be proven. What has become of the adult bees after the Colony Collapse Disorder? Body: Between
2006 2007, many beekeepers had begun to report losses of 30 90 percent of their hives. Close to 50
percent of the affected colonies have showed signs inconsistent with the known causes of honeybee
death (Colony). The main symptom of the Colony Collapse Disorder is very low if not zero adult
honeybees present in the hive, although a live queen is still present. There are also no dead honeybee
bodies present, and often still honey and younger bees present in the hive. Verroa mites, a virus
transmitting parasite of honeybees, are often very frequently found in the hives that have been hit by
Colony Collapse Disorder (Honey). Beekeepers have experienced unexpected losses such as this
before; research has shown many other honeybee colonies seen losses during the 1880s, 1920s and
1960s. The descriptions of these losses sound very similar to the Colony Collapse Disorder, although
there is no way

Chocolat Movie Critique
Chocolat is about a war between the forces of paganism and Christianity, and because the pagan
heroine has chocolate on her side, she wins. Her victory is delayed only because, during Lent, a lot of
the locals aren t eating chocolate. The movie happens in the backdrop of a French village. Vianne
Rocher (Juliette Binoche), an expert chocolatier, drifts across Europe with her daughter Anouk
(Victorie Thivisol), following the north wind. In the beginning of the Lenten season in 1959, fifteen
years after the War, they travel to the French village that closely adheres to tradition, as led by the
village mayor, the Comte de Reynaud (Alfred Molina).
Just as the villagers begin observing the forty days of Lent, Vianne opens a chocolate shop, much to
Reynaud s displeasure. Chocolat was directed by Lasse Hallstorm in 2000. ... Show more content on

She does not fit in well with the townspeople, but is nevertheless optimistic about her business. Her
friendly and alluring nature begins to win the villagers over one by one, causing Reynaud to openly
speak against her for tempting the people during a time of abstinence and self denial. The Comte will
not admit that his wife has left him; he is romantically interested in Caroline, but he does not pursue
her.One of the first to fall under the spell of Vianne and her confections is Armande (Judi Dench), her
elderly, eccentric landlady. Armande is unhappy that her cold, devoutly pious daughter Caroline
(Carrie Anne Moss) will not let Armande see her grandson Luc because Caroline thinks Armande is a
bad influence . Vianne arranges for Luc and his grandmother to see each other in the chocolaterie,
where they develop a close bond. Caroline later reveals to Vianne that her mother is a diabetic, though
Armande continues to eat the chocolate despite her

Using Math Vocabulary With Intentionality While...
Students will use math vocabulary with intentionality while incorporating a comprehensive
vocabulary program that will be updated and utilized throughout the year as a main component of my
instruction. Throughout the ELL certification program, vocabulary has been consistently emphasized
as an invaluable strategy for the teaching and learning of ELL students. Although this has been
stressed, it has not become a focus in my instruction; my plan is to develop a structure that will ensure
that vocabulary becomes a part of my weekly lesson plan. Robert Marzano has written much
regarding vocabulary instruction. Additionally, he provides research to support just how important it is
not only to EL students, but also to all students throughout their learning. Marzano states, direct
vocabulary instruction has an impressive track record of improving students background knowledge
and the comprehension of academic content. Direct instruction on words that are critical to new
content produces the most powerful learning. Marzano is asserting that vocabulary is fundamental to
learning.

Research Assistant Personal Statement
As the completion of my Economics degree from The University of Kansas, it is with great excitement
that I submit my application for the Research Assistant position. As an Assistant, I would welcome the
opportunity to apply my education and my internship experiences in multiple industries for the benefit
of Abt Associates and its clients.
After reviewing the position description and conducting brand research, I believe that I have the skill
set necessary to be a Research Assistant. Throughout my academic training, I have developed
quantitative analysis and problem solving skills. As I studied Industrial Engineering in Colombia, I
learned to analyze tasks more efficiently and create solutions to improve company processes. I firmly

As a Supplemental Instructor Leader, I have offered assistance to students who had difficulty
understanding the class topics. I have also corresponded professionally with faculty members on a
regular basis. Consequently, I have gained strong written and communication skills that I could
transfer to working with Abt Associates. During last summer, I completed an analytics focused
internship with Channel IQ, a data firm in Chicago. As a Data Analyst, it was required to acquire and
report a large amount of data meeting tight deadlines. This internship trained me in the use of various
software programs. My ability to understand and troubleshoot in various programs would allow me to
use quantitative and qualitative standard procedures. In any organization where I had the chance to
learn, I demonstrated my aptitudes and abilities, such as focusing on details, analyzing procedures,

  • 2. The NFL Lockout Essay Business deals happen every day; Contracts expire, renew, and are negotiated without the public knowing for many large corporations and even sporting leagues. However, some contract changes cannot escape the media s attention. The National Football League (NFL) is facing an expiration of its Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) (NFL Lockout Now One Month Old). Currently, the agreement has expired and NFL team owners have selfishly chosen to lock the players out. The term lockout means that the players are essentially not allowed to participate in any team activities or duties until the owner s rescind this lockout. While many believe this is simply a battle between team owners and a player union, it can only appear to most as a selfish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Never the less, we need to look deeper into the negotiations to see what is really being argues and who is genuinely at fault. One of the bigger arguing points of the expiration and creation of the new Collective Bargaining Agreement was the expansion of the football season from 16 games to 18 games. While, at the surface this may seem as though it is simple two games , it would be a dramatic change to many season aspects. Firstly, this would reduce the number of pre season games from four to two. This lessens the team s real life preparation time. Which gives both players and coaches real scenarios to base decisions about who to play, what players to release from the team and generally how to plan for their seasons. Another great thing about preseason is it gives fans a chance to see their teams in a cheaper setting, as these games normally do not have full price tickets. Additionally, there was great concern from players about health reasoning, as a 16 game season is already cruel to a football player s body. Many players are often on the sideline for at least a small portion of the season with some sort of injury. Adding two more games only increases the chances for injury, which is accelerated with the short preparation time in a shorter preseason. You may ask at this point, what the owner s standpoint may be. Unfortunately, it is most simply as being stated to recuperate more income from potential income losses. Obviously, the owners only see money in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of I Lean Over The Chasm Rail I lean over the chasm rail. No one is here, so I shouldn t be seen. I am wearing a black T shirt, but I haven t looked at my arms. I have decided I will just take a look. I move my arm so I can examine the self inflicted wounds. God, I am so stupid. Why would I choose to stay here if I hate it so much? Why am I still living if I hate myself? I run a hand over my scars, flinching at some points because the areas are still tender. Then, I remember why I haven t just cut a vein, why I haven t just forfeited out of Dauntless. Lex. The Amity transfer. I never thought I would be attracted to an Amity, because most Amity annoy the living hell out of me, but there s something different about her; she s brave, but she is also one of the kindest people I have ever met. She s from Amity, but she isn t annoying. Lex is gorgeous, too. I remember how after the Choosing Ceremony, which was a few weeks ago, at lunchtime, after all of the transfers changed from the colors of their previous factions changed into black, I was sitting alone, as always, only this time, I wasn t sitting alone the entire half hour. Lex came over, sat down, and we just talked for the remaining minutes. I pull a pocket knife out of of the pocket in my jacket. What s so bad about cutting open some of these scars? Summary of: An experimental study on the effects of physical, mechanical, and electrochemical properties of natural cohesive soils on critical shear stress and erosion rate This article is about the different soils in manitoba rivers and their erosion rate. The study was done using samples taken near the surface of the river. Samples from northern Manitoba contained brown clay with high amount of clay, silt and also organic content but samples from the Red River in southern Manitoba contained grey clay with high plasticity. Therefore, this study can represent behavior of cohesive river bank erodibility in Manitoba over a wide range of soil and sediment properties. (Kimiaghalam Et Al.) study is trying to measure different erosion rates of soil in manitoba rivers. It was conducted by three scientists. Navid Kimiaghalam works at the University of Manitoba and has a Phd in. Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Geomorphology. Shawn P Clark Works at the university of manitoba and has a Phd in Civil Engineering. Habib Ahmari has a Phd in Civil Engineering and Hydrotechnical Engineering. He works at university of Texas Arlington and is a senior lecturer there. These scientists measured different erosion rates in order to learn about the properties that effect erosion. There has been very little study done on this topic so they had to make sure their research was thorough. In order to do so they used 13 different soil samples from 3 different locations. ... • 5. Court Of Appeal Holding Clarifies Employer Calculation Of... Court of Appeal Holding Clarifies Employer Calculation of Probationary Period A recent ruling by the California Court of Appeal clarifies when a government employer should calculate the beginning and end of an employee s probationary period. In California Department of Correction and Rehabilitation v. California State Personnel Board (2015) Cal.App.5th , the Court of Appeal held that the first day of the probationary period should be counted when calculating the probationary period, and therefore, any notice not properly served as required by statute within the period is defective. The case revolved around Appellant, McCauley, who was hired as a Correctional Sergeant at Avenal State Prison. His new position began on December 2, 2008 and was subject to a 12 month probationary period before becoming permanent. On December 1, 2009, the California Department of Correction and Rehabilitation (CDCR) served McCauley with a notice of rejection removing him from the position effective December 8, 2009. On December 2, 2009, another document was served on him extending his probationary period until December 8, 2009. McCauley contended the papers were invalid due to the CDCR s failure to comply with timing and notice requirements in relation to the duration of the probationary period. He appealed to the California State Personnel Board which agreed with him and revoked the notice of rejection. The CDCR thereafter challenged the finding by filing a writ of mandate in the trial ... • 6. Jacob, The, And Jacob Let us commence a journey into the much travelled topic of Jacob wrestling with God. Jacob portrays deceitful characteristics throughout Genesis; Jacob gets his name from his twin brother Esau. When Jacob brother of Esau was born, his brother came out, with his hand grasping Esau s heel; so he was named Jacob (Gen. 25.26). Part of the reason Jacob is who he is because of his brother Esau. Esau and Jacob were more than just the typical brothers. Jacob hated Esau. It was all a competition between them. Esau was born the hunter and Jacob did just enough to get by. They are the sons of Isaac. Jacob had a past of struggling with God almost as if he was seeking to fulfill his own destiny all on his own. Jacob had always been trying to seek a life that didn t involve God. The wrestling with God plays a big part in his overall character. This is true because, when Jacob wrestles with God he comes to him. Jacob came to God because he realized that he couldn t choose his own destiny and get there with out God. While he was wresting with God, If the wrestler is unable to overcome Jacob spiritually, it is because Jacob is not willing to yield. Only when the man threatens to go without offering assurances of God s help does Jacob show his willingness to negotiate in the critical issues. (Walton 605). Jacob so desperately wants God, he is clinging to him. Although, he is very stubborn before he submits himself to God he wants a blessing from him, Jacob s willingness to submit ... A question that I would have never expected or never heard of until I read the title of the article, Are Too Many People Going to College? , by Charles Murray. College is where most people strive to be. It s a place to learn and evolve into a human being who will change and innovate the world, so a question like this startled me and made me really confused as to why but it also caught my attention. Murray provides us with reasons, examples, and statistics on why he believes people should or should not go to college. In his article Murray talks about the compensations that come with a degree, the reality about college, bachelor of arts, liberal education, core knowledge, and the four years spent at university. Three particularly points that sparked my interest were: the truth about college, the supposed rewards that accompany a college degree, and the four years you spend at your desired institution. I will be discussing the many flaws that are contained within his arguments and will be utilizing logical fallacies, diction, to describe why. One of Charles Murray points is about college and claims that it s not all the hype It s known to be. The Dedication Of Abigail Williams And Elizabeth Proctor Amber Chan American Lit I Ms. Crimmel March 6, 2015 The Dedication of Abigail Williams and Elizabeth Proctor Arthur Miller creates many unforgettable characters in his play, The Crucible, to depict the historical events of the Salem witch trials. Although there are many other influential characters in the town of Salem that cause major events to happen during the trials and are eventually subject to their consequences, two women were most prominent. As a young, manipulative, vengeful, jealous, and selfish liar, Abigail Williams feels that she has superiority over everyone and uses this mindset to accomplish her malicious intentions. Elizabeth Proctor portrays a virtuous, selfless, and forgiving housewife who can often be cold towards people but still has the courage to face the people after finding out about her husband, John Proctor s, sin of committing adultery. Despite the numerous hardships they overcome throughout the play, both women continue to prove their determination towards achieving their respective goals. In The Crucible, Arthur Miller shows the true dedication of Abigail Williams and Elizabeth Proctor through their love for John Proctor, realization of their role in the witch trials, and their influence on their surroundings. • 16. New Forms Of Extreme Vulnerability Globalization processes have created new forms of extreme vulnerability that disproportionately impact the welfare of poor women of color living in border cities. As borders have become increasingly permeable and capitalism has transcended national borders, outsourcing labor has become a common practice within transnational corporatism. To meet the demands of the global North, gendered forms of labor have emerged in the global South that have resulted in the exploitation and abuse of poor women of color. The rising levels of violence that poor, border women are subjected is one of the multi faceted effects of globalization within border cities. The presence of an informal economy, existing forms of patriarchal structure, racial hierarchies, and the militarization of borders all lead to conditions that make female migrant workers across U.S. and Mexican borderlands denationalized citizens. Because of the state s role in using militarization and policing as forms of social control, migrant women cannot exercise their citizenship and claim control over their own bodies. Although globalization is viewed as a phenomenon that improves the living conditions for all, I argue that it presents complex challenges to women s claim over their own bodies and contributes to their overall state of rightlessness within borderlands. The presence of an informal economy alongside the formal economy within border cities neutralizes sex service and gendered labor. Sexual violence towards women ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Different people believe in different things. For example a group of people believe that juveniles should be sentenced to life in jail if they commit a heinous crime. Then there are people that believe that the juveniles should not be sentenced to life in prison. I believe in this because in my belief I feel that if someone took the time to plan a murder or a rape or a killing and knows it s wrong I feel that they know what they are getting themselves into. I feel that if they take the time to plan a heinous crime then they are aware of their actions and what they are doing. I personally believe that every human being knows it is wrong to kill another human being no matter what age you are. I know that there are people out there that believe a person in jail can change and they have learned what they have done wrong. • 19. We Should Invest Our Tax Dollars Essay INTRODUCTION I grew up in South Akron, and graduated from Garfield High school. This high school has meant a lot to the community and the students that attended it. This is not just a building, but an institution that has turned out a lot of great minds and professional athletes. Losing the high school in this district would be devastating. I feel that we should invest our tax dollars in our own city, and worry about the future of our own child, by keeping Akron schools in the community of Akron. Purpose Garfield high along with Kenmore High school have been slotted to be torn down. There are no dates as of yet to when the projects will start. The removal of these two public two public high schools would leave the entire southern portion of Akron and nearby Kenmore without a high school in or near these districts. Problem Building the learning site in Kenmore would cause major busing problems. The city already owns the property of Garfield High school, so why go out and spend money for property, when you have a property already available? Some people may disagree and say Kenmore is an excellent choice property wise, and the land is readily available. I feel that we should invest our tax dollars in our own city, and worry about the future of our own child, by keeping Akron schools in the community of Akron. Scope My proposal for a solution to the problem is to build a new learning center on the site occupied Garfield High school. This would give the southern portion of ... Introduction While A Game of Thrones can in many ways be compared to other outstanding works in literature, whether it is Lord of the Rings for its fantasy setting or Hamlet for themes of love, intrigue, political games and treachery, what truly make the novel great are its characters. In many novels, one might argue that the characters are merely a product of their situation and the story, while in A Game of Thrones the story is in many ways the product of the characters. What I mean by this is that characters often merely react to events that occur around them, while characters in A Game of Thrones create the events that build up the story. Therefore I will look at how George R.R. Martin uses creates and uses intriguing and diverse characters in A Game of Thrones. Machiavelli says; I think it s a question of whether cruelty is well or badly used. Cruelty well used is short lived and decisive, no more than is necessary to secure your position and then stop (The Prince, XIII). Machiavelli s governing code is completely absent of ethical concerns. He hates Christianity and is attempting to remove its influence on the mindset of rulers. This indeed would not sit well with Socrates. He would disapprove of this new moral code and any state governed by it. Socrates believes that when deciding to perform an action the only consideration you should take is if that action is ethically sound. Cruelty is objectively unjust and unethical. Socrates would never advocate its use no matter how beneficial it is to the state. Socrates believes under no circumstances should one knowingly commit an unjust act. While in prison Socrates, says to Crito; there is no sense in which an act of injustice is good or honorable (Crito, 49a). Socrates would not support a system that advocates the use of cruelty and other vicious actions for political gain. Machiavelli and Socrates respective beliefs on political thought are shaped by how they view the world. Machiavelli looks at the world through a realist scope. He sees the world as how it is, not how it should be. Machiavelli is often dubbed the father of realism and his ideal political system reflects that. He believes the paramount interest of a state is to protect its political autonomy. He instructs princes to be cunning, deceitful, and constantly suspicious of other rulers. The Prince will be judged by the results of his reign rather than the means he used to achieve them. War for Machiavelli is good; it allows the Prince to broadcast his power, instilling fear in other rulers. Socrates would oppose this mindset and outlook on the world. He would instead take a more idealized approach to political affairs. Socrates would instruct a Prince to look at other sovereign rulers as potential allies. War, for Socrates, is the last resort, if an option at all. Socrates prince would work tirelessly to settle disputes with diplomacy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While residents had their own rooms, and shared if married, everyone was technically under the same roof. The seniors came together for meal times, spent quality times in the common areas to socialize, and enjoyed the extracurricular activities that were planned on a weekly basis, along with meeting many volunteers to light up their day. George Herbert Mead was trusted with expressing the foundations of the symbolic interaction (SI) theory. It is used to understand how families create meaning. The premise of this came from his curiosity to understand the way humans create, react to, and redefine the shared, symbolic meanings in their social environment. As the text mentions, Mead agreed that words and nonverbal behaviors are the primary symbols to which humans assign meaning. In addition to this idea, he also explained on the idea that symbolic meanings are heavily influenced by perceptions, including people s own perceptions and other people s perceptions of them and the social structure around them. But through the use of description, the two main characters become more stereotypes of miners in the Gold Rush era; they were typical rugged, gambling, scorched skinned, strong, simple womanizing men. This much is true with no one more than the title character, as his actions reveal more about the time s concept of death during his friend s execution and burial rather than going too deep into his own personal feelings about this particular death. Tennessee s Partner quickly compares his friend s burial to all the other drunken trips his shouldered with Tennessee in the past and seemingly moves on from the finality of the situation with ease. Lastly, Harte uses the setting as a major element of the story, almost turning the vast land of Tennessee s Partner into a character itself. For goods, that retailers sell in their shops or online platforms. They store these goods until they are ordered to be distributed, whether to business s or directly to customers. The main purpose for a distribution center is to hold stock, until it is needed. These centers can often be shared by several small business s to reduce overheads or are owned outright by larger companies, who rely on having large amounts of stock, but do not have a large amount of shop space. This portion of the cell cycle takes in nutrients; manufactures proteins and other substances, expands in size, and conducts special functions which depend on the cell type. The G1 phase is the first phase in the life of a newborn cell, and is known as the gap 1 phase. The S phase is the phase that follows the G1 phase. In this phase, cells that are destined to divide, preparations for cell division begin during the S phase. The s in this phase stands for synthesis . This phase is responsible for replication of the cell s DNA, and this is one of the most important responsibilities performed in this phase. G2 phase occurs after the S phase but before the start of cell division. The G2 phase is known as the gap 2 phase. The G1 phase, S phase, and G2 phase, each make up the parts of interphase. Cell division is the last stage in the life of an individual cell. As cell division begins, the cell contains twice the amount of DNA because of DNA replication in the S phase. The G0 ... Considering money is a motivating factor to change, a case study for registration cost was done using Oregon as the test subject. Pew considered every level of registration. Beginning locally, it determined printing and postage, staff salaries, and facilities. Additionally, the Secretary of State incurs expenses related to maintain the voter rolls, providing and distributing registration forms, training and assisting agencies involved with voter registration, and manning the toll free call center for public questions regarding registration. All totaled, Oregon spent almost nine million dollars registering voters for the 2008 election, that s $4.11 per active registered voter or $7.67 per registration transaction (Pew). Indeed, most allegations of voter fraud turn out to be clerical errors, and individual voter fraud is rare for two compelling reasons. First, individual fraud begets minimal votes, certainly not enough to win an election. And second, it comes with a severe penalty (Brennan). Henceforth, our country needs to find the balance between the possibility of fraudulent elections with the probability of voter suppression and disenfranchisement. • 47. The Human Condition By Hannah Arendt Hannah Arendt s most influential work The Human Condition was published in 1958. It makes distinctions between labor, work and action, between power, violence and strength and between property and wealth. It is surprising that more than 55 years later the originality and novelty of this book is still present. Arendt compels the reader to open their eyes and to look at the world and human affairs in new ways and with a completely different perspective. In her prologue she professes that she wants us to do nothing more than to think what we are doing. The Human Condition is associated with Arendt s work on totalitarianism. The Human Condition and her work on totalitarianism work together to highlight the contemporary human predicament. Arendt s interest in human affairs was due to her encounter with Nazis which led to her interest and participation in political activities. Hannah Arendt developed her philosophy of education during her time in the United States. Her philosophy is shaped by the political turmoil that played out in public schools at that time. Arendt was influenced by many philosophers. One sees Jasper s influence in The Human Condition in which Arendt developed this idea of action: public, political behavior based on communication (Snelgrove, 4). Honeybees, which are a crucial part of the U.S. agriculture, have been under some drastic stress from the mysterious Colony Collapse Disorder, which is a syndrome defined as a dead colony with no adult bees or dead bee bodies but with a live queen, honey and juvenile bees still present in the hive. A scientific cause for the Colony Collapse Disorder has yet to be proven. What has become of the adult bees after the Colony Collapse Disorder? Body: Between 2006 2007, many beekeepers had begun to report losses of 30 90 percent of their hives. Close to 50 percent of the affected colonies have showed signs inconsistent with the known causes of honeybee death (Colony). The main symptom of the Colony Collapse Disorder is very low if not zero adult honeybees present in the hive, although a live queen is still present. There are also no dead honeybee bodies present, and often still honey and younger bees present in the hive. Verroa mites, a virus transmitting parasite of honeybees, are often very frequently found in the hives that have been hit by Colony Collapse Disorder (Honey). Beekeepers have experienced unexpected losses such as this before; research has shown many other honeybee colonies seen losses during the 1880s, 1920s and 1960s. Students will use math vocabulary with intentionality while incorporating a comprehensive vocabulary program that will be updated and utilized throughout the year as a main component of my instruction. Throughout the ELL certification program, vocabulary has been consistently emphasized as an invaluable strategy for the teaching and learning of ELL students. Although this has been stressed, it has not become a focus in my instruction; my plan is to develop a structure that will ensure that vocabulary becomes a part of my weekly lesson plan. Robert Marzano has written much regarding vocabulary instruction. Additionally, he provides research to support just how important it is not only to EL students, but also to all students throughout their learning. Marzano states, direct vocabulary instruction has an impressive track record of improving students background knowledge and the comprehension of academic content. Direct instruction on words that are critical to new content produces the most powerful learning. Marzano is asserting that vocabulary is fundamental to learning.
