Jazreel Kibbutz Analysis
Israel Journal Hearing the description of the Jezreel kibbutz from the fellow first phase diggers (at
times giving scary accounts of their experiences), however these could not dampen my excitement and
anticipation of my visit and work on the Tel. Although, I had read the literature on the kibbutz, when
we entered the location I was not prepared for what seemed like a little village. Our accommodations
were quite adequate and it was soon time to prepare for the next day and get to bed. Getting up early
was not a problem for me and in fact I arrived early at the bus stop for the short ride to the Tel. Once
at the Tel, we were given a history lesson and taken on a tour of the location by one of the lead
archeologist, Dr. Norma Franklin. On

Decision Framing
Making good decisions is vital to living a successful and productive life. The ability to decide and
choose wisely and rightly depends on the situation. Though we try to be as logical as possible in
taking a decision, sometimes we end up making the wrong choices. So, it is important to understand
how people decide things.. The sad truth is that people, even at the highest level, simply do not like to
make good choices as every decision involves a certain amount of risk. Decision framing is the first
step in the decision making process, and it builds the plan for making a good choice. The decision
frame does not always ensure the right outcome. However, without it, there is no structure when
making a decision. Framing is all about how information is presented and if it has an affect on the
outcome. Framing is all about how we interpret the information. People interpret things ... Show more

I knew that starting my next semester I had to choose something I wanted to study. This was one of
the hardest decisions I had to make. I was worried that if I choose something that I would eventually
lose interest and regret it. After some thinking I did some research on Health Sciences. My doctor
once talked to me about becoming a physician assistant. This is what influenced my decision and I
ended up changing from liberal arts to Health sciences. Making decisions is something we do
everyday. Some decisions are minor and others can be life changing. The more we grow up we realize
that we have to make more difficult decisions. Just realize that everyone goes through this and things

The Impact Of Media On Technology On Our Lives Essay
Often, we take for granted the significance of media within our lives. Experimenting without media
usage for a day, I was amazed at the change in my thought and behavior. Personal experiences and
examples provide proof of new ideas and present theories, discussed and developed within the essay.
Presenting a balance to the subject, there is an analysis to both the positivity and negativity behind
abandoning media. Within the essay, the reader is able to attain a college point of view, illustrating the
role mass media plays while in class, working on homework, eating with friends, or playing a sport.
Ultimately, the essay enhances the importance of our dependency on technology and our path to
robotic communication.
A Response to Media Fasting Completing the media fast assignment was one of the most difficult,
frustrating, and engaging tasks that I have ever participated in. After two failed attempts of living
without my iphone for twenty four hours, I was forced to lock my phone up, physically detaching
myself from it. Although my failed attempts occurred because of unconsciously responding to a text or
checking the time, close observation of my habitual phone patterns proved to be truly remarkable.
Media, as a whole, occupies a huge part of our lives, keeping us connected and up to date with the
latest news, trends, and advertisements. Subtracting media out of my life for a day actually made me
feel unconnected from others, which I never would imagine to occur.

Developing Children s (3 8 years) Mathematical Skills
E1
There are different national frameworks and policies that are used for the development of
mathematical learning from 3 to 8 years old.
One of these is the Childcare Act 2006. The Childcare Act is an update on the Children Act 2004. It
basically makes sure that local authorities reduce any inequalities in their individual areas by
providing an integrated service for children and their families. They make it so that each local area has
the appropriate provision to help the care and learning of all children aged 3 or 4, and a free minimum
amount of provision should be available. Parents have a right to obtain information for their child, and

This could become an activity by ordering the bricks or sorting the bricks into different colours or

depending on the mathematical development of the individual children.
E4
The seven strands that are part of the mathematical framework are: * Using and applying mathematics
* Counting and understanding number * Knowing and using number facts * Calculating *
Understanding shape * Measuring * Handling data *
The first activity of water play with different sized beakers, would come under the measuring strand of
the mathematical framework, but could also come under the understanding shape strand due to the fact
that there were beakers being used that were different sizes and possibly shape, for example even
though beakers are usually cylinders, there could have been some beakers used that were cuboids or
even pyramids to help with creativity since beakers don t have to all be the same so children broaden
their horizons and think outside the box .
The second activity which involved coloured bricks would come under the Understanding shape
strand of the mathematical framework but perhaps could also come under Calculating, if the bricks
had numbers on the or if you were counting the bricks or if the activity involved having a 2 or 3
groups of bricks with different

Advantages And Disadvantages Of An Antena
An Antenna is an electrical device which converts electric power into radio waves and radio waves
into electric power. An antenna used with a radio transmitter or radio receiver. During transmission, a
radio transmitter supplies an electric current oscillating at radio frequency to the terminals of antenna,
and the antenna radiates the energy in the form of electromagnetic waves. During reception, an
antenna intercepts some of the power of an electromagnetic wave in order to produce a tiny voltage at
its terminals that is applied to a receiver to be amplified. Communication is defined as the transfer of
information from one point to another point. Communication system is required to convey the
information over a distance. The information can be transfer by superimposing or modulating the
information on to a carrier which is an electromagnetic wave. At the receiving side, the received
modulate carrier can be recovered by demodulation to get the original information. For this process
complicated techniques have been developed using electromagnetic carrier waves operating at radio
frequencies as well as millimeter and microwave frequencies. In today s modern communication
industry antennas play an important role to create a communication link. Microstrip antennas ... Show

Essay on Quentin Tarentino
Quentin Tarentino
Throughout the many years the film industry has grown, a certain type of filmmaker immerged,
known as an auteur. An auteur, usually a director, has a strong personal style and exercises creative
control over his or her works. Quentin Tarentino, for example, has proven himself to be an auteur in
various ways. Quentin Tarentino worked for four years as a clerk in a Los Angeles video store, where
he made his feature directorial and screenwriting debut of Reservoir Dogs, and where he further
expanded his great knowledge of film. Tarentino s personal style incorporates a lot of well thought out
violence, swearing, repetitive casting, and many other filming techniques. In looking at Reservoir
Dogs, Jackie Brown, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The last very brutal scene of the movie is when the whole crew of gangsters hold guns that are pointed
at each other for the sake of Mr. Orange s life. Eventually, the whole gang ends up dying, even Mr.
Orange. When he confesses to being a cop Mr. White puts a bullet in his head and is instantly killed by
the police officers that came in for the bust. All this violence portrays many things about the film and
about what Tarentino is trying to suggest. He manifests these gangster characters with such disregard
to living, going to jail, and swearing simply to show the audience how he believes criminals act.
Quentin therefore tries to present a criminal lifestyle as it most likely is, not worth it. He suggests that
a life of crime and violence leads to dead ends such as jail, death, or predicaments such as having an
informant on a well planned out diamond heist. Quentin Tarentino uses tracking shots that also leave
his mark on the movies he directs. For instance, when Mr. Blonde starts to lead his fellow criminals
out to the car to look at the cop he has captured. The camera begins to follow the group out to the car
from their backsides, and then opens up to the outside of the warehouse, from dark to light. This
shows the criminals containment in the warehouse; in a way trapped from leaving. When they arrive
to the car, the camera shows the criminals from a low angle. This represents their power over the cop,
and the feelings they hold for their superiority over law, when

Overview of the Fall Prevention Program
The Fall Prevention Program Executive Summary The Purpose of the Program According to the Joint
Commission Resources JCR (2005), there is no universally accepted definition of a fall. Thus several
definitions have been floated over time in an attempt to define the same. One such definition of a fall
is an untoward event that results in the patient or resident coming to rest unintentionally on the ground
or another lower surface (Joint Commission Resources, 2005). Falls are regarded common causes of
injury at every age. However, it is important to note that for seniors, falls can have serious
consequences. This is more so the case given that a fall can bring about pain, trauma, or even death.
With that in mind, the primary purpose of this program remains the reduction of falls and hence the
aversion of related injuries amongst the concerned patients. Of key importance remains the
identification of patients who appear to be at high risk of falling. This way, appropriate strategies can
be developed to reduce the injuries related to inpatient falls. The Target Population/Audience
According to the Joint Commission Resources (2005), falls are the ¦primary etiology of accidental
deaths in persons over the age of 65. However, it is important to note that in the opinion of JCR, the
injury rate happens to be highest amongst those aged 85 years and above. To highlight the seriousness
of the issue, the commission further points out that the number of deaths associated with

An introduction to the study that provides an overview of the issues studied and discussed: The study
of The Relationship of Sugar to Population Level Diabetes Prevalence: An Econometric Analysis of
Repeated Cross Sectional Data , revolves around the effects of sugar consumption on diabetes. It is
said that the rise in diabetes is mostly due to type 2 diabetes that lead to hypertension, insulin
resistance, and dyslipidemia. But it is unclear whether the prevalence of type 2 diabetes is determined
by the amount of sugar being consumed. While studies have shown that sugar plays an independent
role in obesity, obesity doesn t cause diabetes. Some countries have a large population with diabetes

But an increase of sugar availability of 150 kcal/person/day resulted in a rise of 1.1% in diabetes
prevalence. From the cross national model of diabetes prevalence from 2000 to 2010, there has been
an overall increase of diabetes by 27% on average, with one fourth of the results accounted by an
increase of sugar availability. The Gross Domestic Product coefficient also played a role in that a 1%
increase in GDP resulted in a 1.07% increase in diabetes prevalence. This goes to show that economic
development is an important factor in the prevalence of diabetes. Findings further showed that sugar
significantly correlated with the prevalence of diabetes but the effects of sugar was independent on the
total calorie consumption and obesity. When the obesity factor was unaccounted for, the effect of
sugar was not drastically changed, which shows that obesity remains independent on sugar s impact

In our case, our client s warnings about raw foods were displaced and were not visible to customers.
In Jarrell, the court established a legal standard for adequate warning. According to the decision in

means a visible sign. In her restaurant, our client had two warnings. One was placed on the menu and
the other was the 3 x 5 cards on the tables, interview 2: 21, which could have been sufficient to

reasonable person to be aware of the possible danger. I would argue that our client met both prongs of

Resonant Characteristics Of The Acoustic Theory Of Speech...
According to the acoustic theory of speech production, what we know to be speech output results from
a source of sound energy (e.g. the larynx) modulated by a transfer (filter) function which is determined
by the shape of the resonator (vocal tract). This model, often referred to as the source filter theory of
speech production, originates from the works of Gunner Fant (1960, 1980) and Stevens and House
(1955, 1961) (Haskins Laboratory, Yale University 2008). Source filter theory puts forth two distinct
and important ideas; one is that the specific articulatory postures that the vocal tract takes on results in
the production of specific sounds, which is why speakers can deduce the shape of the vocal tract upon
hearing a speech sound. The other is that while the source may produce a sound, the filter will select
only a portion of the harmonics within that sound to be amplified and issued from the mouth
(Behrman, A. 2017).
Resonant Characteristics of the Vocal Tract
Because source filter theory breaks up speech production into the resonator and the source, it allows
us the advantage of assessing the contributions of each. When examining the glottal source, it is
important to keep in mind its acoustic characteristics. The glottal source, perceived as a buzzing noise
when not filtered through a resonator, has a fundamental frequency and corresponding harmonics. The
first characteristic to consider would be whether the sound is voiced or voiceless. When a sound is
voiced, the

Genetically Modified Organisms ( Gmo ) Essay
Agriculture has existed for thousands of years and has been able to support the lives of many
individuals through providing consumer goods. These consumer good are constantly being bought and
sold between various countries in order to sustain life on earth. Although past agricultural methods
were seen as natural from farmers working out in the field and growing food sustainably, the drive for
economic gain that society possessed allowed for many corporations such as Monsanto to develop.
The Monsanto Corporation is located in St. Louis Missouri and is known as an American
multinational agrochemical and agriculture biotechnology corporation. (Monsanto Company, 2015).
Monsanto was founded in 1901 and began to create herbicides between 1945 and 1976. With the
success of the herbicide creations, Monsanto then began to develop plants that contained
biotechnology traits known as genetically modified organisms (GMO) or genetically modified (GM)
crops (Monsanto Company, 2015). These GM crops are used for agricultural purposes into which one
or several genes coding for desirable traits have been inserted through the process of genetic
engineering (Qaim, 2009, p.1). The use and expansion of GM crops continues to rise with the United
States being one of the world s largest leading producers (GMO compass, 2007). GM crops were
introduced into society because many believed that this new technology would be able to improve the
quality of the worlds food supply (Conner et al, 2003).

the opportunity to analyse and interpret these reports, calculate ratios and compare these with the

Tikki Tavi Theme Essay
The story of Rikki Tikki Tavi is of a story of a mongoose who fights to protect his garden and family.
The classic tale of good versus evil, where the good triumphs evil. However, there lies an allusion to
meaning between what good and evil is considered to be. Rudyard Kipling, the author of Rikki Tikki
Tavi, portrays the cobras as evil, but are they really the evil one? They shouldn t be the only one
marked evil because even Rikki Tikki resorted to such ways to achieve what he wanted. The true evil
is the self interest if these characters. We begin near the start of the story when Rikki Tikki meets with
the bird Darzee, who is in sorrow because one of his babies fell and was eaten by Nag. Right after,
Nag appears before Rikki Tikki and says I am Nag. The great god Brahm put his mark upon all our
people when the first cobra spread his hood to keep the sun off Brahm as he slept (Kipling). In
Hinduism, Brahm, or Brahma, is comparable to Christianity as god. Brahm does not represent evil, yet

Analyzing Kipling s choice of animals is not difficult to comprehend which is good or evil . The
protagonist, the mongoose Rikki Tikki, and the antagonists are two cobras, Nag and Nagaina. The
cobras are not difficult to identify as the evil of the two since snakes are evil because they kill

describes the mongoose like a little cat and... he could fluff up his tail till it looked like a bottle brush

Cardiac Tamponade Lab Report
Cardiac Tamponade is a life threatening medical complication in which blood or fluids fill the area
between the sac that encases the heart and the heart muscle, placing tremendous pressure on the heart.
The extreme pressure restrains the heart s ventricles from extending fully and keeps the heart from
functioning normally. The heart is not able to pump enough blood to the rest of your body, which
could lead to organ failure, hypotension, shock, and in the worst case possible even death. According
to (NCBI) 2 out of 10,000 people can end up getting the condition. (Barwell, 2012) This pressure is
enough to back up blood returning to the heart as well. There are many different things that can cause
the onset of cardiac tamponade. There are several types of test that can be performed to see if the
individual presents the signs of cardiac tamponade. An Echocardiogram is the main test that is used in
diagnosing and determining if the patient has cardiac tamponade. While performing an
Echocardiogram, a sonographer will pay special attention to the pressure of the mitral and tricuspid

Self-Identity Qualities
Identity is defined as the qualities that distinguish one from someone else. Thus, self identity is how
one characterizes themselves as an individual. This may at first seem easy to conclude. One might say
I am me because I look in the mirror and recognize myself. Or, I am me because I possess a mind and
memories unique to me that cannot be replicated by another in the same perspective. However, the
body and the mind undergo constant change throughout life, so how can they be attributed to one s
sameness ? I have arrived at the problem of self identity, what makes one person the same over time? I
assert that in addition to the presence of unique physical and mental substance, in each person is a
constant factor that cannot be altered. I shall show that the problem of self identity is solved with both
the existence of a soul as well as psychological makeup; X is the same as Y so long as X possesses the
same soul, body and consciousness as Y.
Descartes theory of dualism supposes that there are two fundamental substances. The body is an
example of a material substance, as it can be defined by its dimension, shape, movement, and other
extensions. However, an immaterial substance like the mind cannot be defined by such concepts, nor
can it be interpreted from sensory data. Descartes argues that the mind is the soul, as it cannot be
altered by physiological means and ascribes its place in the pineal gland. Though I agree with
Descartes distinguishing of the mind and body, I do

Baroque and Classical Orchestras Differences
Baroque Orchestras Classical Orchestras
String section and basso continuo central to the orchestra. Other instruments are occasional additions.
Standard group of four sections: strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion. Different instruments
treated individually.
Fairly small; generally 10 40 players. Larger than baroque; great variation to the numbers of players.
Flexible use of timbres, e.g. Timpani and trumpets used generally just for festive music. Standardised
sections. Most sections used regularly.
Tone colour is distinctly secondary to other musical elements. Greater variety of tone colour and more
rapid changes of colour.

First movement has solo passages extending into long sections; alternated between four or five
ritornello sections. First movement constructed in a variant of ritornello form with a double
exposition.
Violin is preferred concerto solo instrument although the harpsichord becomes more and more popular
throughout the century. The newly prominent piano takes over as the most popular solo instrument.
Composers rely heavily on ritornello form. More freedom in the form although a sinfonia proper is
later developed.
The melody is made up of long, drawn out phrases. The melodies are shorter motifs.
Minuet and trio third movement. Minuet and trio is left out of the dramatic symphonic form.
Expansion of Music in the 20th Century
There are many elements that led to the expansion of music in the 20th Century. In some ways these
elements were all linked to each other and it is difficult to say what events or ideas triggered the huge
development of music. For example, World War I and II in the first half of the century lead to the rapid
development of technology and communications as well as, eventually, political and social freedom,
all aspects which have created changes and growth. The great advances in technology were in part
responsible for globalism, although nationalism was also partly a product of the wars. The advent of
the Great Wars also produced great emotion.
The father of 20th Century music is often said to be Claude

The Pros And Cons Of Bonds
Bonds are income investments used to raise capital whereby investors loan out their finances usually
to Municipalities, Corporations or Governmental (Siegal Yacht, 2009) entities who borrow the
required funds for a specific period of time agreed upon by both parties (bond issuer and bond holder)
at a regular or fixed interest rate (Investopedia, 2018). The bond issuer is the person or company
selling or borrowing bonds while the bond holder is the person or investor buying or lending bonds (in
other words, the bond holder acts as a bank loaning his money to the bond issuer). Bonds have several
features but the main ones are:

But when it makes losses, you lose out as well.
As a new shareholder, you have the right to voice out your opinions and contribute whatever ideas you
may have, make decisions that might benefit the company or those in relation to how it is run.
How stocks are traded
Stocks are traded on stock exchanges after a company completes an Initial Public Offering (IPO)
because its shares now become public and are ready to be traded (Hayes, 2018). This is a very
straightforward way of investing unlike bonds that can be time consuming and mostly involve a lot of
documentation. Every country has stock exchanges (physical or electronic) where investors go
whenever they want to buy or sell stocks.
How to Calculate an Annual Rate of Return
Annual Rate of Return this is the interest rate that is earned on an investment for the whole year
(Investopedia, 2018). It is calculated by first adding any income earned to the total obtained after
subtracting the end of year amount earned with the beginning of the year amount. After this, divide the
total amount obtained by the original amount invested at the beginning of the year. This can further be
illustrated as

A Summary Of The Blade Runner Replicant
The 1982 film The Blade Runner introduces the idea of a replicant. A replicant is a fictional
bioengineered or biorobotic android. These bioengineered androids are identical to an adult human,
with the exclusion of having superior strength. Distinguishing the difference between a human and a
replicant is problematic. Within the film, The Blade Runner Deckard is a blade runner, or someone set
out to retire Replicants . Deckard develops a series of emotion provoked questions to decipher the
difference between the two. Through a series of twenty to thirty questions Deckard is able detect if
one is a human or bioengineered android. He ascertains this by the emotions displayed behind every
answer. On the contrary, though Deckard s job is to kill Replicants , he finds himself falling in love
with one. Knowing that a Replicant is a man made human and not a natural born citizen it is illogical
to grant them basic human rights. Within the film Deckard says Replicants are like any other machine,
are either a benefit or a hazard. He identifies a replicant as a machine not human. Although, replicants
have true human emotions they should not possess basic human rights because they are not made in
God s image, and they do not live long enough to evolve, thus making no major contribution to
society.
Replicants are man made humans with super strength that are generated in a lab rather than born in a
hospital. Dating back to the early parts of the Old Testament it states in Genesis

Dinosaurs Are Awesome
If I had a time machine, I would want to go to a very famous time 67 million years ago. Although no
humans were living during that time, I still want to see how different earth was during that time so I
could confirm and add to the overall knowledge about the dinosaurs. The Cretaceous time period was
the last time period in which dinosaurs are seen. This time period spanned from 144 million years ago
(mya) to 66 mya; right after the Jurassic time period and before the Tertiary. This is a time when
dinosaurs were at their height with many thousands of different species known or yet to be identified.
Our earliest ancestors were small rodent like mammals that lived during this time and gradually
evolved into the many different types of mammals we see today. The dinosaurs though, would become
small reptiles such as the lizards we see today after one of the greatest known extinctions of all times
the K T Extinction also known as the extinction of the dinosaurs. In this time, I would see many giant
dinosaurs such as the T rex. These dinosaurs would be competing for their own survival and their
children s survival very roughly by killing other dinosaurs who get too close to their nests or them.
During this time, I would be wondering how did these giant creatures 30 feet tall die and have us puny
mammals take their place as the dominant species? I would then recount that thanks to a combination
of a massive asteroid hitting earth, mammals, deadly diseases, volcanoes, flowering

Essay about The Zulu Clan
The Zulu Clan
In the 1820 s, during a period of social unrest and warfare, the Zulu clan, a Bantu people, rose to
political prominence under the great King Shaka in present day South Africa. This period is called
mfecane, or crushing because it was characterized by Shaka s tyrannous reign during which he
conquered neighboring peoples and established a kingdom for the Zulu people on South Africa s
eastern coast. The word zulu was used in 1824 to refer to a war like race of South African Blacks .
(Ngubane, 1977) The British characterization of Shaka as a monster, however, is now seen as a
propagandist attempt to disguise their own interests in procuring land and labor in the region. In fact,

Considering the social trauma associated with colonialism and apartheid the Zulu responded by
clinging more tenaciously to their heritage as a means of psychological survival in a society which
systematically degraded and disrespected them as a people. Berglund (1976) points out that it is the
rituals and symbols of a society which express the relationships between members of that society and
makes living in that society a meaningful experience. The focus of this paper will be centered on
traditional Zulu spiritual beliefs and, to whatever extent possible, not those adapted to Western
thought. In providing first the basic cosmological beliefs and then moving on to the central theme of
traditional spiritual beliefs involving deceased ancestors and their role in Zulu society, my goal will be
to demonstrate how social harmony is maintained as a result of the observance of these spiritual
beliefs and practices. According to traditional belief, uMveliqangi, the Lord of the Sky, emerged full
blown from the reeds in the realm of the sky. Man later emerged from the reeds and was let down to
earth through a hole in the floor of the sky. This explains the origin of the Zulu clan name, zulu
meaning of the sky . The Lord of the Sky then sent a chameleon down to earth to tell the people that
they will not die. Later on, he sent a

Marcus Aurelius
There once lived a man who, to some extent, could be considered a real philosopher king. Marcus
Aurelius, known as the last of the good emperors, was a legacy of gentleness and thoughtfulness
whom Russell Crew, the Hollywood actor, played his role in the movie Gladiator (2000) . He was born
in Rome (121 180 CE) and at the age of eleven, he was introduced to the precepts of philosophy.
Through his 19 years as an emperor, the choices Aurelius made towards his people are remarkable
evidences of kind, loving, and prudent character. Together with his work, Meditations (his diaries)
made him one of the most virtuous, humblest, and noblest characters in history. He, to some extent,

However, standards of goodness differ from a person to another. Plato believed a philosopher king can
achieve the absolute standards of goodness and then must be the ruler. Most people, on the contrary,
do not believe in Plato s ideals as various individuals have different interests, and for the sake of
peace, there should not be a ruler who chooses what he thinks is right for his subjects. They want a
system that reflects what they want; they want democracy. Here comes the argument if a philosopher
king should control everything or it is the right of people, the majority, to decide what to happen
(tyranny democracy); to rule themselves. Apparently, there is no absolute regime that has no
drawbacks. Each regime has its own strengths and weaknesses, but which is more compatible with this
age, which is a more appropriate way to settle peace and justice, and which is a better economical
solution a philosopher king or tyranny democracy?
For the sake of justice, people most have the power to rule themselves. This is what Democracy
proponents believe. They believe democracy is the key to a successful nation no matter it is a tyranny

people s voice. Everybody is allowed to participate in the country s

Traditional American Family Essay
When the idea of a family life first began, the man was supposed to be the sole breadwinner while the
wife stayed home to cook or clean or take care of the children. A traditional American family used to
be a mom and a dad, with a few kids. However, that white picket fence lifestyle has become almost
abnormal now. Ever since the choices of divorce, homosexuality, even role reversal have been offered
to families things have never been quite the same. In the early days, divorce was an extremely
shameful thing. The concept of for better or worse truly held it s meaning. A man and a woman would
almost never split up, no matter how bad things got. Today, divorce papers can be mailed and signed
with virtually no hassle, making the ending of a marriage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A century ago, homosexuality would have been a taboo thought. A family was made of a man and his
wife, with their natural children. With the choice of homosexuality being introduced, people can now
marry whoever they want to and have kids from a surrogate, from adoption, or even from artificial
insemination has greatly expanded familial bounds. A century ago, the man of the household was the
one that brought home the bacon. His wife would be waiting for him at home with a cold beer or other
beverage and have his favorite show on if a radio or TV was available. Fast forward a century and stay
at home dads are becoming more common. Single parents are almost normal to see, and the woman of
the house is now allowed to earn a paycheck. By giving families a choice in how they want to go
about daily life has greatly changed how families work now. As Pew Research Center states it, Parents

evolving family forms. By contrast, in 1960, the height of the post World War II baby boom, there was

Following the Nicene Council, the debate continued, including

Fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) is physical and mental damage in a child due to alcohol exposure while

The Great Transformation Of The Market Society
The market society has changed and transformed into a set of ideas only based on commodities. The
market society is a human invention that took place with the ideas of capitalism. The great
transformation started with the modern state. It is crucial to understand the great transformation
because prior, in the past, the market had little say on the society. Currently the market is what shapes
our society and culture. The role of the market has drastically and dramatically changed and is
something that controls people.
To understand the great transformation it is first important to understand the market society . For
Polanyi, the market society is when the society and social relations are imbedded into the economy.
For him a market economy has become a market society when all of land, labour, and capital are
commodified. This is the brief definition of what the market society is. An example, which comes to
mind right away, is that in the past everything was done by hand, and workers worked to finish a task
or job assigned. Once they completed what was given to them, then the workers would use it for their
own benefit. Their own benefit would be to either use what they produced and made or trade it for
what is needed in their daily. This is what work was. Now machineries took place and it transformed
everything. So whatever the society needs is produced in large amounts, and whatever is not sold, will
eventually be sold.
The market, economy and social structure use to be

How To Stop Poaching
Killing In Action Poaching is a war, and many animals lose their lives and family to it. Although many
people don t think it s bad, it is. Many animals have gone extinct from it. People in the world need to
stop poaching otherwise we won t have elephants, tigers, rhinos or any other animals anymore. People
really don t care, but if we don t stop poaching we won t have any of these animals. Elephants tusks
are used for piano keys, billiards balls and many other human enjoyments. Many animals get poached
but there are few that get poached so much that there is little to non left. Elephant numbers have
declined in the past five years at more than 75 percent of the sites that they still occur.1 Elephant
numbers have dropped because people have been killing them for their tusks.1 The population of wild
tigers has dropped from 100,000 to 3,500. 2 The population of tigers has dropped because their pelts
are really valuable on the black market.3 Rhino population has dropped drastically because of ... Show

Racial And Ethnic Group Interactions
Racial and ethnic group interactions occur daily in the world; in Miami, however one can learn from
the interactions between different ethnic and racial groups in a workplace setting. Mr. Elman adapted
his management style of his apparel factory to the needs of his immigrant workers; his style helped
reduce ethnic friction and returned his investment in high production levels and loyalty (Stepick, 92).
Mr. Elman was successful in getting his employees to willingly agree to pay a cut, which exemplifies
how much clout Mr. Elman had amongst his workers (Stepick, 93). The previous success that the
factory had under his management would likely not be found again under the American management
style, partly because the workers were used to Mr. Elman. Also after more Haitian workers were hired,
the Miami Cubans seemed to create a notion of seniority when decisions had to be made, but instead
of the senior member not working they would opt to work, leaving the new Haitian workers without
work (Stepick, 103). Mr. Elman eventually sold his apparel factory and new more American managers
moved in, these managerial practices took away the things that lead to a positive work environment
and high productivity: personal fans, individual radios, and hot plates (Stepick, 93). The new
American managers admitted their defeat, at least they learned to adapt to a more Latino based
workforce as per one of the plant managers (Stepick, 94). While I understand the new American
management style,

Should The Minimum Age Be Raised To 18
For many teenagers in the United States their 16th birthday is an important milestone. This is the age
that teenagers begin to integrate more into society as they begin to drive and experience new levels of
freedom. As 16 is the usual minimum age for employment in most industries some teens even get jobs
for personal reason or to benefit their household. The minimum age to acquire a driver s licence
should not increase to 18 as younger teens will not be able to help provide for their families with
current public transportation methods in the United States. According to the Insurance Institute for
Highway Safety the first drivers license dates back to 1899 with a license being issued for a steam
propelled vehicle in Chicago, Illinois. Over the next five years various states began introducing laws
on driving, specifically the minimum age, to ensure public safety. While some states like
Massachusetts and Missouri were quick to enact these laws, others were not. South Dakota took over
50 years to enact a minimum driving age in the state. As states, one by one, began drafting these
public safety laws, the age required to obtain a license varied from 14 18 years old. ... Show more

enables these teens to get to and from work, job interviews, or even in some cases become employed
in the delivery business. USA Today reports that while 30% of teens have jobs, employment rate is
still falling. Increasing the driving age would only decrease the number of teens in the workforce.
Surprisingly one third of those teens working, do so to support their family. Without proper
transportation these teens would be forced to either miss more school or work less in order to make

The great harmful power of the atomic bomb persuaded several leaders of the necessity to limit this

The US couldn t, alone, stop the unfold of nuclear weapons. Since Russia inherited the bomb in 1949

History of Spanking Essay
Since the birth of the nation Americans have wrestled about the topic of spanking children for
discipline. We waver back and forth for a while it is okay and expected that we will discipline the
children by using corporal punishment. Then everything changes and for years it is no longer
acceptable. It has been the subject of many heated debates and will continue to do so as long as we
have parents and as long as they raise children. In the long run we will find out if spanking turned out
to be an asset or a liability but for the immediate future it is something America needs to go back to
using for guidance purposes. We are seeing more violence in teenagers than ever before, the juvenile
crime rate seems to be rising and for the last two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Members of the House of Prayer say their brand of corporal punishment is nothing more than an old
fashioned spanking. State officials say the spankings administered to at least two of the children in
that church crossed the line (Matrz, 2001). Corporal punishment, the DFCS manual says, is any
physical punishment of a child to inflict pain as a deterrent to wrong doing. It may produce transitory
pain and potential bruising. If pain and bruising are not excessive or unduly severe and result only in
short term discomfort, this is not considered maltreatment (Matrz, 2001). Where the line is crossed,
Liber said, is when the discipline causes injuries to the child. Once physical injury is left (on the
child), it constitutes child abuse and we have to intervene, she said (Matrz, 2001). While courts
continue to rule that spanking is okay, and schools are still using it as a measure of punishment in
many areas of the county there are millions of Americans who protest the use of corporal punishment
as a means to control or teach children lessons. For those who are against spanking they use the
argument that it is assault on a child. Any form of hitting even a swat on the butt is an assault on a
human being and should. Most parents feel strongly for or strongly against spanking. Their positions
are mainstays of their basic approaches to their children. At my town meetings and presentations,
parents often split and oppose one another as they defend

Drug Abuse In School Drug Policy
The school district in these cases have very specific definitions of what drugs and weapons are and the
consequences for violating the rules. The three issues faced by the principal are, did the student violate
the school s drug/ weapon policy, what was the student s intent, and lastly, what should the
consequences be for the student s actions? In the first case an African American female was
discovered taking a pill that she claimed was allergy medication. The school district defines drugs as
marijuana or a controlled substance as defined by 21 U.S.C. Section 801 et seq.; or a dangerous drug
otherwise defined in the State Safety code. The penalty is immediate assignment to the alternative
school for one semester. In order to determine if the student violated the drug policy I would contact
the student s parents to get confirmation that the student is taking the medication with the parent s
knowledge and ask the parent to bring the bottle to confirm the medication. Then, I would show the
medication to the person who witnessed the student taking the pill to confirm that the pills in the bottle
are the same as the pill that they saw the student taking. Furthermore, I would have the student
examined by the nurse and monitor the student to see if any signs of impairment could be observed.
After determining if the student had violated the school s drug policy or not I would assign the in
school suspension for a few days because even over the counter drugs are not permitted

Key Theories Of Learning
Learning theories are conceptual frameworks that describe how information is absorbed, processed
and retained during learning. Theories of learning explain how people learn and can help teachers to
understand the meaning of things and review effectively and confidently their practice accordingly
(Wilson,2009). The main theories of learning are behaviourism, cognitivism and humanism.
Behaviourism is based on the idea that people respond to things around them. Behaviour is learned
from things seen around them or from the environment and that learning and ability to learn requires a
change in behaviour. The key figures of behaviourism are P.Pavlov, S.Freud, J.B.Watson, B.F.Skinner.
Cognitivism is based on the idea that learning is a process ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Rogers(1959)only when a person is free from frustration and external impositions can
grow and develop ,setting his/her own goals, following universal values, such as honesty, love,
responsibility and autonomy. Rogers idea suggest that an external and objective reality does not exist
and individuals observe the world in their own way, having their own reality and behaving
accordingly to it. He emphasised the relationship between teacher and students, recommending a
climate of respect, trust and empathy. These ideas emphasising that the teacher should always treat
learners as unique individuals and listen to them. Maslow stressed the importance of positive
experience in order to reach autonomy and personal growth. He stated that self actualization requires
an accommodating and enabling environment, responsibility, maturity and achievement of certain
needs in a hierarchical order (Neto,2015).Based on these concepts Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs
evolved, that involves Physiological need such as food and shelter, safety needs such as stable and
predictable environment, belonging needs such as affection from family and friends ,esteem needs
such as self confidence and appreciation from others, self actualization needs such as discovering and
fulfilling one s own potential(Eysenck,2004).In my subject specialism, science its

Standing Essay
In the modern world, many different events take place that cause people to believe that their rights are
being violated; consequently, they begin to protest. The reason people do this is to stand up for what
they believe is right.
The trend of standing up for what others believe has stormed across the nation for diverse reasons.
One of many examples of this situation includes the National Football League(NFL). Approximately
two years ago, quarterback Colin Kaepernick began to protest the national anthem due to his belief
that his rights and the rights of other african americans were being violated. Shortly after many other
professional athletes followed his lead and protested the national anthem by kneeling down, locking

Italy during the 14th century. The family was from the Mugello region of the Tuscan countryside, they
were gradually rising until they fund the bank that was called the Medici Bank. The Medici Bank was
the largest in europe during the 15th century, we can see that the Medici gained political power in
florence, though officially the remained only citizens not monarchs. The Medici Bank became so

and authority. To get there they also did a lot of bad things such as killing a lot of people and these
other people were their bank s rivals, but if they didn t they would be dead because their rivals you
have probably done the same, and after they did that they just became even more powerful like super
powerful. Even though they did a lot of bad things they still helped a lot of people and also the
renaissance. The Medicis Family also had a lot of connections to popes, lords and kings, so that made
them even more powerful and harder for anyone who would try to stop them and The Medicis
patronized a lot of artists which helped art to become such a big thing during the renaissance, because
of them people started to pay attention to the art and if that hadn t happened we would not be where
we are today with art.
The Cons of The Medicis:
They were very cruel and they would kill anyone standing in their way ( they probably read the prince

Examples Of Cultural Issues In The 1920s
The 1920s was a breeding ground for racial violence and cultural wars. These social issues impacted
many different people groups. Racial violence was a bad issue in the 1920s because it lead to many
deaths and injuries. An example of this is the Tulsa race riot killing 39 and injuring over 800 people.
The cultural wars in the 1920s were a result of the conflict between conservative ideas and liberal
ideas. The main conflict was between the fast city way of life and the slow rural way of life. This was
bad because it created a divide between the people creating conflict and more social issues. A few of
the cultural issues of the 1920s were Prohibition and the Red Scare. Prohibition was the prevention of
manufacturing alcohol in the 1920s. This

Although, I had read the literature on the kibbutz, when we entered the location I was not prepared for what seemed like a little village. Our accommodations were quite adequate and it was soon time to prepare for the next day and get to bed. • 4. Decision Framing Making good decisions is vital to living a successful and productive life. The ability to decide and choose wisely and rightly depends on the situation. Though we try to be as logical as possible in taking a decision, sometimes we end up making the wrong choices. So, it is important to understand how people decide things.. The sad truth is that people, even at the highest level, simply do not like to make good choices as every decision involves a certain amount of risk. Decision framing is the first step in the decision making process, and it builds the plan for making a good choice. The decision frame does not always ensure the right outcome. However, without it, there is no structure when making a decision. Framing is all about how information is presented and if it has an affect on the outcome. • 5. The Impact Of Media On Technology On Our Lives Essay Often, we take for granted the significance of media within our lives. Experimenting without media usage for a day, I was amazed at the change in my thought and behavior. Personal experiences and examples provide proof of new ideas and present theories, discussed and developed within the essay. Presenting a balance to the subject, there is an analysis to both the positivity and negativity behind abandoning media. Within the essay, the reader is able to attain a college point of view, illustrating the role mass media plays while in class, working on homework, eating with friends, or playing a sport. Ultimately, the essay enhances the importance of our dependency on technology and our path to robotic communication. A Response to Media Fasting Completing the media fast assignment was one of the most difficult, frustrating, and engaging tasks that I have ever participated in. After two failed attempts of living without my iphone for twenty four hours, I was forced to lock my phone up, physically detaching myself from it. Although my failed attempts occurred because of unconsciously responding to a text or checking the time, close observation of my habitual phone patterns proved to be truly remarkable. Media, as a whole, occupies a huge part of our lives, keeping us connected and up to date with the latest news, trends, and advertisements. Subtracting media out of my life for a day actually made me feel unconnected from others, which I never would imagine to occur. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Advantages And Disadvantages Of An Antena An Antenna is an electrical device which converts electric power into radio waves and radio waves into electric power. An antenna used with a radio transmitter or radio receiver. During transmission, a radio transmitter supplies an electric current oscillating at radio frequency to the terminals of antenna, and the antenna radiates the energy in the form of electromagnetic waves. During reception, an antenna intercepts some of the power of an electromagnetic wave in order to produce a tiny voltage at its terminals that is applied to a receiver to be amplified. Communication is defined as the transfer of information from one point to another point. Communication system is required to convey the information over a distance. The information can be transfer by superimposing or modulating the information on to a carrier which is an electromagnetic wave. At the receiving side, the received modulate carrier can be recovered by demodulation to get the original information. For this process complicated techniques have been developed using electromagnetic carrier waves operating at radio frequencies as well as millimeter and microwave frequencies. • 8. Essay on Quentin Tarentino Quentin Tarentino Throughout the many years the film industry has grown, a certain type of filmmaker immerged, known as an auteur. An auteur, usually a director, has a strong personal style and exercises creative control over his or her works. Quentin Tarentino, for example, has proven himself to be an auteur in various ways. Quentin Tarentino worked for four years as a clerk in a Los Angeles video store, where he made his feature directorial and screenwriting debut of Reservoir Dogs, and where he further expanded his great knowledge of film. Tarentino s personal style incorporates a lot of well thought out violence, swearing, repetitive casting, and many other filming techniques. In looking at Reservoir Dogs, Jackie Brown, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The last very brutal scene of the movie is when the whole crew of gangsters hold guns that are pointed at each other for the sake of Mr. Orange s life. Eventually, the whole gang ends up dying, even Mr. Orange. When he confesses to being a cop Mr. White puts a bullet in his head and is instantly killed by the police officers that came in for the bust. All this violence portrays many things about the film and about what Tarentino is trying to suggest. He manifests these gangster characters with such disregard to living, going to jail, and swearing simply to show the audience how he believes criminals act. Quentin therefore tries to present a criminal lifestyle as it most likely is, not worth it. He suggests that a life of crime and violence leads to dead ends such as jail, death, or predicaments such as having an informant on a well planned out diamond heist. Quentin Tarentino uses tracking shots that also leave his mark on the movies he directs. For instance, when Mr. Blonde starts to lead his fellow criminals out to the car to look at the cop he has captured. The camera begins to follow the group out to the car from their backsides, and then opens up to the outside of the warehouse, from dark to light. This shows the criminals containment in the warehouse; in a way trapped from leaving. When they arrive to the car, the camera shows the criminals from a low angle. This represents their power over the cop, and the feelings they hold for their superiority over law, when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Overview of the Fall Prevention Program The Fall Prevention Program Executive Summary The Purpose of the Program According to the Joint Commission Resources JCR (2005), there is no universally accepted definition of a fall. Thus several definitions have been floated over time in an attempt to define the same. One such definition of a fall is an untoward event that results in the patient or resident coming to rest unintentionally on the ground or another lower surface (Joint Commission Resources, 2005). Falls are regarded common causes of injury at every age. However, it is important to note that for seniors, falls can have serious consequences. This is more so the case given that a fall can bring about pain, trauma, or even death. With that in mind, the primary purpose of this program remains the reduction of falls and hence the aversion of related injuries amongst the concerned patients. Of key importance remains the identification of patients who appear to be at high risk of falling. This way, appropriate strategies can be developed to reduce the injuries related to inpatient falls. The Target Population/Audience According to the Joint Commission Resources (2005), falls are the ¦primary etiology of accidental deaths in persons over the age of 65. However, it is important to note that in the opinion of JCR, the injury rate happens to be highest amongst those aged 85 years and above. To highlight the seriousness of the issue, the commission further points out that the number of deaths associated with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is said that the rise in diabetes is mostly due to type 2 diabetes that lead to hypertension, insulin resistance, and dyslipidemia. The Gross Domestic Product coefficient also played a role in that a 1% increase in GDP resulted in a 1.07% increase in diabetes prevalence. This goes to show that economic development is an important factor in the prevalence of diabetes. One was placed on the menu and the other was the 3 x 5 cards on the tables, interview 2: 21, which could have been sufficient to heighten the warning and mitigate the harm. • 13. Resonant Characteristics Of The Acoustic Theory Of Speech... According to the acoustic theory of speech production, what we know to be speech output results from a source of sound energy (e.g. the larynx) modulated by a transfer (filter) function which is determined by the shape of the resonator (vocal tract). This model, often referred to as the source filter theory of speech production, originates from the works of Gunner Fant (1960, 1980) and Stevens and House (1955, 1961) (Haskins Laboratory, Yale University 2008). Source filter theory puts forth two distinct and important ideas; one is that the specific articulatory postures that the vocal tract takes on results in the production of specific sounds, which is why speakers can deduce the shape of the vocal tract upon hearing a speech sound. The other is that while the source may produce a sound, the filter will select only a portion of the harmonics within that sound to be amplified and issued from the mouth (Behrman, A. 2017). Resonant Characteristics of the Vocal Tract Because source filter theory breaks up speech production into the resonator and the source, it allows us the advantage of assessing the contributions of each. When examining the glottal source, it is important to keep in mind its acoustic characteristics. The glottal source, perceived as a buzzing noise when not filtered through a resonator, has a fundamental frequency and corresponding harmonics. The first characteristic to consider would be whether the sound is voiced or voiceless. When a sound is voiced, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These consumer good are constantly being bought and sold between various countries in order to sustain life on earth. Although past agricultural methods were seen as natural from farmers working out in the field and growing food sustainably, the drive for economic gain that society possessed allowed for many corporations such as Monsanto to develop. The Monsanto Corporation is located in St. Louis Missouri and is known as an American multinational agrochemical and agriculture biotechnology corporation. (Monsanto Company, 2015). Monsanto was founded in 1901 and began to create herbicides between 1945 and 1976. With the success of the herbicide creations, Monsanto then began to develop plants that contained biotechnology traits known as genetically modified organisms (GMO) or genetically modified (GM) crops (Monsanto Company, 2015). These GM crops are used for agricultural purposes into which one or several genes coding for desirable traits have been inserted through the process of genetic engineering (Qaim, 2009, p.1). The use and expansion of GM crops continues to rise with the United States being one of the world s largest leading producers (GMO compass, 2007). GM crops were introduced into society because many believed that this new technology would be able to improve the quality of the worlds food supply (Conner et al, 2003). ... The classic tale of good versus evil, where the good triumphs evil. However, there lies an allusion to meaning between what good and evil is considered to be. Rudyard Kipling, the author of Rikki Tikki Tavi, portrays the cobras as evil, but are they really the evil one? They shouldn t be the only one marked evil because even Rikki Tikki resorted to such ways to achieve what he wanted. The true evil is the self interest if these characters. We begin near the start of the story when Rikki Tikki meets with the bird Darzee, who is in sorrow because one of his babies fell and was eaten by Nag. The Grass Is Singing narrates the life events of Mary Turner shaped by colonial experience, in the Rhodesian veld and South Africa, and questions the entire values of the Rhodesian white colonial society. Lessing spins an intricate text, interweaving Mary s life and struggle in a colonial world. Cardiac Tamponade Lab Report Cardiac Tamponade is a life threatening medical complication in which blood or fluids fill the area between the sac that encases the heart and the heart muscle, placing tremendous pressure on the heart. The extreme pressure restrains the heart s ventricles from extending fully and keeps the heart from functioning normally. The heart is not able to pump enough blood to the rest of your body, which could lead to organ failure, hypotension, shock, and in the worst case possible even death. According to (NCBI) 2 out of 10,000 people can end up getting the condition. (Barwell, 2012) This pressure is enough to back up blood returning to the heart as well. • 22. Self-Identity Qualities Identity is defined as the qualities that distinguish one from someone else. Thus, self identity is how one characterizes themselves as an individual. This may at first seem easy to conclude. One might say I am me because I look in the mirror and recognize myself. Or, I am me because I possess a mind and memories unique to me that cannot be replicated by another in the same perspective. However, the body and the mind undergo constant change throughout life, so how can they be attributed to one s sameness ? I have arrived at the problem of self identity, what makes one person the same over time? I assert that in addition to the presence of unique physical and mental substance, in each person is a constant factor that cannot be altered. I shall show that the problem of self identity is solved with both the existence of a soul as well as psychological makeup; X is the same as Y so long as X possesses the same soul, body and consciousness as Y. Descartes theory of dualism supposes that there are two fundamental substances. The body is an example of a material substance, as it can be defined by its dimension, shape, movement, and other extensions. However, an immaterial substance like the mind cannot be defined by such concepts, nor can it be interpreted from sensory data. Descartes argues that the mind is the soul, as it cannot be altered by physiological means and ascribes its place in the pineal gland. These bioengineered androids are identical to an adult human, with the exclusion of having superior strength. Distinguishing the difference between a human and a replicant is problematic. Within the film, The Blade Runner Deckard is a blade runner, or someone set out to retire Replicants . Deckard develops a series of emotion provoked questions to decipher the difference between the two. Through a series of twenty to thirty questions Deckard is able detect if one is a human or bioengineered android. He ascertains this by the emotions displayed behind every answer. On the contrary, though Deckard s job is to kill Replicants , he finds himself falling in love with one. Knowing that a Replicant is a man made human and not a natural born citizen it is illogical to grant them basic human rights. Within the film Deckard says Replicants are like any other machine, are either a benefit or a hazard. He identifies a replicant as a machine not human. Although, replicants have true human emotions they should not possess basic human rights because they are not made in God s image, and they do not live long enough to evolve, thus making no major contribution to society. The worst problems are caused when mothers drink during the first trimester, because that is when most of the baby s brain development occurs. The market society is a human invention that took place with the ideas of capitalism. The great transformation started with the modern state. It is crucial to understand the great transformation because prior, in the past, the market had little say on the society. Currently the market is what shapes our society and culture. The role of the market has drastically and dramatically changed and is something that controls people. To understand the great transformation it is first important to understand the market society . For Polanyi, the market society is when the society and social relations are imbedded into the economy. For him a market economy has become a market society when all of land, labour, and capital are commodified. This is the brief definition of what the market society is. An example, which comes to mind right away, is that in the past everything was done by hand, and workers worked to finish a task or job assigned. Once they completed what was given to them, then the workers would use it for their own benefit. Their own benefit would be to either use what they produced and made or trade it for what is needed in their daily. This is what work was. Now machineries took place and it transformed everything. So whatever the society needs is produced in large amounts, and whatever is not sold, will eventually be sold. The market, economy and social structure use to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Racial And Ethnic Group Interactions Racial and ethnic group interactions occur daily in the world; in Miami, however one can learn from the interactions between different ethnic and racial groups in a workplace setting. Mr. Elman adapted his management style of his apparel factory to the needs of his immigrant workers; his style helped reduce ethnic friction and returned his investment in high production levels and loyalty (Stepick, 92). Mr. Elman was successful in getting his employees to willingly agree to pay a cut, which exemplifies how much clout Mr. Elman had amongst his workers (Stepick, 93). The previous success that the factory had under his management would likely not be found again under the American management style, partly because the workers were used to Mr. Elman. Also after more Haitian workers were hired, the Miami Cubans seemed to create a notion of seniority when decisions had to be made, but instead of the senior member not working they would opt to work, leaving the new Haitian workers without work (Stepick, 103). Mr. Elman eventually sold his apparel factory and new more American managers moved in, these managerial practices took away the things that lead to a positive work environment and high productivity: personal fans, individual radios, and hot plates (Stepick, 93). This is the age that teenagers begin to integrate more into society as they begin to drive and experience new levels of freedom. As 16 is the usual minimum age for employment in most industries some teens even get jobs for personal reason or to benefit their household. The minimum age to acquire a driver s licence should not increase to 18 as younger teens will not be able to help provide for their families with current public transportation methods in the United States. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety the first drivers license dates back to 1899 with a license being issued for a steam propelled vehicle in Chicago, Illinois. Over the next five years various states began introducing laws on driving, specifically the minimum age, to ensure public safety. While some states like Massachusetts and Missouri were quick to enact these laws, others were not. South Dakota took over 50 years to enact a minimum driving age in the state. Members of the House of Prayer say their brand of corporal punishment is nothing more than an old fashioned spanking. State officials say the spankings administered to at least two of the children in that church crossed the line (Matrz, 2001). Corporal punishment, the DFCS manual says, is any physical punishment of a child to inflict pain as a deterrent to wrong doing. It may produce transitory pain and potential bruising. If pain and bruising are not excessive or unduly severe and result only in short term discomfort, this is not considered maltreatment (Matrz, 2001). Where the line is crossed, Liber said, is when the discipline causes injuries to the child. Once physical injury is left (on the child), it constitutes child abuse and we have to intervene, she said (Matrz, 2001). While courts continue to rule that spanking is okay, and schools are still using it as a measure of punishment in many areas of the county there are millions of Americans who protest the use of corporal punishment as a means to control or teach children lessons. For those who are against spanking they use the argument that it is assault on a child. Any form of hitting even a swat on the butt is an assault on a human being and should. The three issues faced by the principal are, did the student violate the school s drug/ weapon policy, what was the student s intent, and lastly, what should the consequences be for the student s actions? In the first case an African American female was discovered taking a pill that she claimed was allergy medication. The school district defines drugs as marijuana or a controlled substance as defined by 21 U.S.C. Section 801 et seq.; or a dangerous drug otherwise defined in the State Safety code. The penalty is immediate assignment to the alternative school for one semester. In order to determine if the student violated the drug policy I would contact the student s parents to get confirmation that the student is taking the medication with the parent s knowledge and ask the parent to bring the bottle to confirm the medication. Then, I would show the medication to the person who witnessed the student taking the pill to confirm that the pills in the bottle are the same as the pill that they saw the student taking.
