Treaty Of Guadalupe Hidalgo Essay
One of the most important documents in the history of the state of Texas is the Treaty of Guadalupe
Hidalgo, whose many functions included the termination of the Mexican American War, the
establishment of the Rio Grande as the official border between the state of Texas and the country of
Mexico, as well as granting rights to all Mexican citizens living in the state (Collier et al. 12).
However, it is essential to recognize how the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo established the core
identity of Texas an ethnically and culturally diverse state because of the functions explicitly outlined
in within its text, making it the marker of a major turning point in the history of the state (Collier et al.
12). Since its signing on February 2nd, 1848, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo remains in effect and

Several conflicts, including the Civil War, forced many Mexicans out of Texas due to xenophobic
attitudes towards them (Collier et al. 14). Despite these troubles, years of cultural assimilation and
population growth has led to Hispanics composing 38.6% of the state s population as of 2014,
according to the data presented by Collier et al., making Texas a majority minority state (28). This
term can be applied because Hispanics, being an ethnic minority, make up a large part of population of
the state, and have a large influence on politics and culture due to how ingrained they have become in
the history of Texas (Collier et al. 27). Overall, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo denotes a turning
point in the history of Texas because it represents the point at which the core aspects of the state were
defined, allowing for Texas to develop through the years into a modern, multicultural, and diverse
state (Collier et al.

Military Budget Cuts
To fund or not to fund the Armed Forces? Many Americans have asked why we should pay for the
military. Is the military a priority to fund during harsh economic times? Critics argue that the military

Billy Elliot Transitions
The process of transitions has the power to allow individual to seek new pathways in order to allow
new opportunities to arise, challenging perspectives and stereotypes, while ultimately growing as an
individual. However, it is only through overcoming challenges, that a transition empowers the
individual to overcome hardships, gaining a deeper understanding of self, while developing strength
and integrity. The film Billy Elliot positions the audience to perceive hardships that individuals must
overcome in order to successfully achieve their ultimate transition, challenging gender stereotypes and
societal norms . Tracey Chapmans song Fast Car, outlines obstacles that the persona and the audience

Hate Wearing Seatbelt
I used to hate wearing my seatbelt. It irritated me how the portion of it that goes across my chest
would scratch the side of my neck. I would have battles with it at times on how annoying it was. I only
wore the part that went around my waist because that is all I would tolerate. My parents would yell at
me about it because it was dangerous. But I was 9, and what do 9 year olds even care about at the time
anyway? We just want to have fun! I never understood the seriousness of wearing the seatbelt until
that car accident; the habit broke after that. It was typical afternoon, I suppose. October 25th, only 6

Differences Between Forward Logistics And Reverse Logistics
1.1. Difference between Forward Logistics and Reverse Logistics:
Forward logistics (or conventional logistics) is the regular distribution channel followed by the
manufactures from time immemorial. Forward logistics concentrates on the products (goods or
services) reaching the consumer end and deals with the line of flow from the manufacturer s end to the
consumer s end. It deals with the very essence of Supply Chain Management and logistical activities
of an organization. It has a significant impact on the primary operations carried out, which act as the
basic revenue generating aspect of a business. In this logistical system, the flow is a one to many type
and the forecasting or traceability is quite simple.

Significance of Indian Beverage Industry with Reverse Logistics:
Indian food industry, with a net market value of around US$ 300 billion, is one of the major food
markets in the world. Looking at the contribution of the beverage sector in these statistics, we have
soft drink (carbonated and juices) market estimated at US$ 1 billion a year and health beverages
estimated at US$ 230 million, which is on a continuous verge of exponential growth.
It is expected that by 2021, India s projected population of 1.3 billion will constitute 64.2% of people
in between the age group of 15 and 59.
According to the global research firm Dun Bradstreet, an increasing pattern of income level when
coupled with the above statistics will give a growth of 9.1% of consumption of consumer goods in a
year.
In the Indian scenario, with relatively less importance given to efficient logistics, the market leaders in
beverage industry like Coca Cola, PepsiCo and Parlé Agro have their own well established strong
logistics network. The other small scale industries producing both carbonated and non carbonated soft
drinks in glass/ PET bottles or in Tetra Pak cartons have a comparatively well established third party
logistics system. They have the help of local providers in providing vehicles for small transfers which
help them in overcoming problems such as demands for bribes by retailers, security and other logistics

German Immigration And The Republic Of Texas
German Immigration to the Republic of Texas German immigrants came to Texas to seek cheaper land
and to escape the war in Germany. Germans settled land in Texas and they helped herd cattle. They
wanted to start over in a new country. The Adelsverein founded the towns of New Braunfels and
Fredericksburg. They settled in so many places and there were large numbers of Germans in each
place so they named it The German Belt . The German Belt was named because of the large number of
Germans that joined Texas around the same time. Many immigrants stayed in cities such as Galveston,
Houston, and San Antonio. Others settled in the rugged Texas Hill Country to form the western end of

hand crafted Christmas decorations, cute little incense burners, wooden carved toys, and nativity
scenes to place at the heart of your Christmas display. Germany s first Christmas market was recorded
in 1393. Today, there are thousands of them all over the country. Both gingerbread houses and the
Nutcracker came from German stories. Another tradition celebrated in parts of Texas is Oktoberfest.
This 16 day festival in Munich attracts over six million visitors per year who consume about
1,320,860 gallons of beer, 400,000 pork sausages and 480,000 roasted chickens. It started October 12,
1810, at the wedding of Bavaria s Crown Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese of Saxony
Hildburghausen. Against tradition, the couple invited Munich s locals. The events were held over five
days on the fields that today are named Theresienwiese after the bride.
The Germans brought a lot of foods that we eat today. The Germans eat a lot of whole grain breads,
cheeses, sausages, mustards, and pickles (gherkins are and were very popular). They eat toast, rolls,
marmalade, honey, eggs, ham , salami, and tea or coffee for breakfast. Germans eat their main meal
during the day between 12 and 2 p.m. It is nothing more than a snack. The German dinner is called

Dr Manette A Tale Of Two Cities
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times (pg 3) For some of the characters in this story, it was
the best of times while for others, it was the worst of times. Dr. Manette s internal struggle is focused
more around his horrible past where he was forced by the Marquis family to help out a dying woman
and her stabbed brother. After being mentally scarred by what he had seen, he tried to write a letter to
the Minister of state explaining what he had witnessed, but then he was stopped by the Marquis family
and then wrongfully thrown into prison. This devastated him and left him with a wrecked mental state
and most of his memories of his family lost. Throughout the story, A Tale of Two Cities by Charles
Dickens, we see some characters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Manette plays a huge role in A Tale of Two Cities and has changed drastically which made him into a
better man than how he first started. When we first were introduced to Dr. Manette, he was in the top
of a wine shop making shoes. This time was most likely where his mental state was at its worse
because he had no idea that he wasn t in prison anymore. He was in such bad condition that he
referred to himself as cell 105 North Tower (Where he was kept in prison) and didn t recognize his
daughter when she came to find him. We start to see things get better for him after his daughter starts
to take care of him and take him away from the wine shop. She nurses him back to health but we still
see that he has trouble with his past. Even though he is almost back to normal and doing much better,
we still see that things can set him back to when he made shoes as a prisoner. An example of this is
when Charles Darnay talks to Dr. Manette about his love for Lucie. When having this conversation, he
starts to talk to him about his horrible past and Dr. Manette immediately stops him and becomes very
pale and stressed out about this past. My present name, though but slightly changed from my mother s,
is not, as you will remember, my own. I wish to tell you what that is, and why I am in England. Stop!
Said the Doctor of Beauvais. I wish it, that I may the better deserve your confidence , and have no
secret from you. The Doctor then proceeds to cover his ears and refuse to listen to Charles. Finally
when we see Charles Darnay tell Dr. Manette his past before his and Lucies wedding we see Dr.
Manette go back to making shoes and remember nothing that had happened in the time that had
passed, where he wasn t in the wine shop. We see Dr. Manettes mental stability jumps around
throughout the story, The second part of the story though is where we really see Dr. Manette develope

The Trinity And The Kingdom Of God
Preamble
Over the past few decades there has been much written, from both Catholic and Protestant
perspectives, on the doctrine of the Trinity . The consensus among these various writings has been
that, although the doctrine is important and central to the Christian faith and theology, it has been
neglected and made obscure, and has become a complex and theological technical term . This
obscurity renders the doctrine of the Trinity impossible to understand or apply to ordinary life.
Karl Rahner in his observations insists that modern Christians are almost mere monotheists , only
paying lip service to the doctrine of Trinity but lacking in the actual practices . Rahner s observation
has been widely acknowledged with the desire being to make a change .
The need to place the doctrine of the Trinity at the heart of Christianity would be considered the
epistemological and methodological safe ground upon which other doctrines are based. Since Júrgen
Moltmann s book The Trinity and the Kingdom of God was published in 1980, the propagation of a
social understanding of God has gained propulsion. Kilby says that such an understanding has become

The Hush Episode Of Buffy The Vampire Slayer
As the well known television series called Buffy the Vampire Slayer is meant to portray the life of a
teenager and her friends who kill monsters and vampires to protect the life of others, it can also be
interpreted in many other ways. It was known to be one of the best t.v shows in history, and it
continued to retain that title even as books. Its educational value lays the foundation for college
courses being taught all around the states and has continued to do so over the years. Since it has been
interpreted in different ways, some may think of it as a resemblance of teenage life and their struggles,
while others may think of it as a metaphor of life s problems. The Hush episode of Buffy the Vampire

Free Throw Shooting
Smart 2 Introduction: Free throw shooting is an art and skill which can affect the outcome of the
game. The true definition is a stand still uncontested shot that is placed fifteen feet or four and fifty
seven hundredths meters from the basketball hoop (Lowry,5/13/07). In a coach s mind free throws
should be automatic, a player should rarely miss a free throw. But as the game keeps evolving, the
fundamental of the free throw is being lost. There are plenty of things that go into the shot, first the
routine, then the balance, after that you look at the rim or sight your goal, and finally you shoot
(Timms, 10/6/08). If you are missing mechanics or balance it will throw off your shot, even changing
your routine can drop your free ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A routine consists of dribbles, spins, and breaths, whatever someone s routine is it will only be
effective if they repeat it (Lowry,5/13/07). If you change your routine a couple times in one season it
can throw off your rhythm and drop your shot percentage. Rhythm follows routine because with the
routine comes rhythm. When the shooter repeats their routine for a long period of time the natural
rhythm flows into the shot and helps the percentage (McCormick, 2/10/10). Of all these three things,
none of them are the most important, one must repeat all of them to be considered a good free throw
shooter. Focusing during a free throw is one of the most key things you can do. With the game on the
line the shooter cannot be thinking about the pressure they must think about the shot and that s it.
When the crowd is yelling wildly the shooter must clear their mind and do what feels natural (Timms,
10/6/08). A free throw is shot from the same spot with no defensive pressure being the reason it is
called a FREE throw (McCormick, 2/10/10). When a free throw is missed it is the mechanics, rhythm,
or focus that went wrong. Coaches believe that free throws are inexcusable, even though there are
plenty of things that could go wrong that is why a true shooter repeats his routine and shot form every

Essay on Stress Management
Stress Management
Responses to stressors present different impacts on each individual. Stressors have a physical and
psychological effect on people although some people seem to be much less effected by stress being
able to withstand high levels of stress almost as if there daily lives depend on it. Even though it is
accepted stress is with us from are waking moment to the minute we sleep, almost all individuals
through time suffer physical or psychological illness. Individual responses to stress have been put into
to categories of personality type; a distinction has been made and put into a category of either type A
or type B.

Here we will look at the different approaches plus the strengths and weaknesses of these methods.
PHYSICAL METHOD OF STRESS MANAGEMENT.
Drugs.
Strengths.
Prescribed drug treatment seems to be the strongest source of psychological stress control. Anti
depressants and BZs are prescribed to reduce the feelings of anxiety or depression induced through
stress induced illness. The effect of the drugs is simple; they suitably block or reduce the activity of
the brains neurotransmitter for release of serotonin, or directly reduce activity in the pathways leading
to the nervous system around the body, not allowing blood pressure or the heart rate to rise, as it is
these bodily systems that influence the feelings of anxiety. Once blocked or suppressed the individual
when faced with a stressor will feel much calmer and able to cope with the unwanted stressor
presented to them.
Weaknesses.
All drugs present side effects which are usually unpleasant. Most common side effects are nausea,
dizziness and stomach upset. Other side effects experienced are drowsiness and subdued awareness,
these are more serious side effects which can cause a threat to personal safety whilst driving or if you
are in a job that requires you to operate machinery. Drugs only treat the physical feelings experienced
from stress and not the psychological cause so also

Lord Of The Flies Film Analysis
Many students across the United States read the classic novel Lord of the Flies written by William
Golding. The story traces a group of lost boys who find themselves alone on an island after opposing
forces shoot down their escape plane during a futuristic version of World War III. Because of the novel
s uncanny resemblance to other classics, like Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson or Peter Pan
by J. M. Barrie, Lord of the Flies quickly caught fire, eventually leading to two film adaptations. Tony
and Emmy Award winning Peter Brook released the first film adaptation 1963. Brook s adaptation
consists of a randomly selected group of British schoolboys with no real scripts on a tiny island off the
coast of Puerto Rico. Brook takes advantage of the dialogue, visuals, and character foils in order to
effectively portray the theme: darkness in man s heart. While Brook had a small amount of funding
and the boys simply improvised most of the lines, the 1963 film adaptation of Lord of the Flies
portrays the theme better than the original novel. Being able to hear the dialogue between the boys on
the island already gives the film an advantage. In the movie, Ralph s kind actions and his sincere tone
when he talks to Piggy is much more obvious than in the same dialogue in the novel. For example, in
both the movie and the novel, Jack breaks Piggy s glasses. In the novel, the narrator observes that

The Creature Of The Beast
In France in the late 1760 s, there was an atrocity that involved around one hundred animal attack
deaths caused by one creature, the infamous Beast of Gevaudan. Per Jaime Hill, the beast was the size
of a horse and looked like a bear, hyena, wolf, and panther hybrid. It had a long wolf or pig like snout.
Many researchers believed there were at least two, or more than two, beasts roaming the area. The
color of the beast changed every time the beast was spotted; it would go from red to red with grey and
white patches to red with stripes. Sometimes there would even be no red, it may just be black or white.
Locals believed it to be a werewolf, or a sorcerer who shapeshifted into a monstrous predator to feed
on human flesh. The beast was also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
June of 1767, a man said the beast could be killed, that he had found a way. He said he needed a holy
bullet made of silver, blessed by a holy man. He takes the ammunition into the forest and arrives back
to the village with a wolf. Villagers agree it is the beast and no beast is spotted afterwards. In 2000,
historians notice things do not add up; a wolf cannot remove someone s clothes. In 2011, researchers
concluded that Jean trained the wolf, killed the people, and then killed the wolf to make it look like a
beast. Still to this day, no one knows for sure what happened ( Mysteries at the Museum n.p.).
Per World of Mythology, the attacks of the beast started in 1764. People all around hunted every wolf
they could find, hoping it would be the beast, but the attacks continued. In 1765, Francois Antoine
killed a large grey wolf, but the attacks continued Also in 1765, a doctor came across a man in a wolf
suit assaulting a woman and killed him but the attacks still went on. Finally, a man by the name Jean
Chastel discovered that if a silver bullet is blessed by a church, it could kill the beast. Chastel got three
silver bullets blessed by the local church and went into the woods, returning with a dead wolf. This
was the final attack on a wolf by the time the attacks stopped. Chastel said he went into the woods and
found the giant wolf. He was the size of a horse and looked like a panther and wolf hybrid. He

The Cost Of A Gallon Of Gas Prices
In January 2016, the cost of a gallon of gas dropped below two dollars, and consumers were rejoicing.
Driving that car with twelve miles to the gallon car wasn t so bad. Going to the grocery store was a
little cheaper because of the transportation costs of goods. Americans could afford a like extra and
never wonder about why the gas dropped. We were still hurting from three dollars or more for a

Oil towns started dying when the restaurants and stores have no more customers, because there was no
money. This could start a domino effect and cause an economic meltdown in states like Texas, New
Mexico, and North Dakota (Egan). This event was caused by the U.S. s dependence on imported
foreign oil, because when the U.S. imports more than half of the oil it uses on a daily basis, someone
else has the control over the economy. Energy dependence is not a new problem but one that started in
1973 after the oil embargo. It was caused by the Arabian government cutting off the oil and gas supply
as a protest against the U.S. support for the Israel in the war between Egypt and Syria (Myre).
President Richard Nixon gave a speech claiming his plan called Project Independence could produce
enough energy needed in America and stop importing oil and gas by 1980. Then in 1975, President
Gerald Ford had a similar plan with a deadline of 1985, and this was the cycle that lasted eight
presidents so far. The deadline has now been moved up to 2025, but now, the U.S. is in a hole more
than ever before. In the 1970s, imports only accounted for about 30% of all oil consumed. In 2010,
imports account for 60% to 70% of all oil consumed. This problem has accelerated almost to the point
of no return (Gottesdiener). The idea of energy independence is that the U.S. would not import any oil
or gas from outside counties and produce all energy needs inside the U.S.

Bishop Spong And The Bible
Bishop Spong is certainly not like most church leaders, he views religion and religious beliefs as they
should apply to the current generation and incorporates the Bible into society not as fundamental law
but by addressing the overall message of God I choose to discuss Bishops Spongs ideas with someone
not in this class and I choose to confer on this subject matter with my live in boyfriend Justin. I felt
that discussion on these topics with him would be beneficial not only in the completion of my course
work but also contribute to the growth and understanding in our relationship of our beliefs regarding
the bible and religion, divorce, and homosexuality. Throughout this course I enjoyed many of the
topics and discussed them very openly with my spouse because unlike myself he is religious but did

Bishop Spong and the Bible as the truth I came to the conclusion that people agree with the Bishop
Spongs statements that the Bible is used most times to support injustice and prejudice with in the
world. Justin has always told me since we met that while he believes in God he feels the Bible is just a
history book and can be used as a guide for humankind but cannot be applied to the present day.
Initially I must say I was a little offended but upon taking this course we can agree that many stories
in the Bible tend to be conflicting. In many ways this is a reflection upon society

What Is The Paradoxical Relationship Between The Health...
I plan to study the paradoxical relationship between the health benefits of safe cycling infrastructure
and the claim that it promotes gentrification and drives the communities it is intended to serve further
into the peripheries of cycling friendly cities. In November 2016, Austin voters passed Proposition I,
which granted $137 million dollars to improve sidewalks and urban pathways1. Among opponents of
improving cycling infrastructure in East Austin, many pointed out that bicycle lanes would increase
the growing pressures of gentrification on the lower income members of the community. This fear
accompanied the claim that minorities and lower income residents of East Austin do not use bicycles
for transportation, and that the lanes would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am personally interested in this topic because I believe that access to environments that promote
healthy lifestyles should not be restricted to the wealthy, and that city governments should concentrate
on increasing bike ability and walkability in lower income neighborhoods. Several studies have shown
replacing car travel with cycling and walking decreases obesity and increases overall health5, and one
study in Kansas even showed a significant decrease in employee healthcare costs following
investments in local cycling programs3. However, before interest groups launch advocacy and
infrastructure expansion, it is important that they understand the effects of that expansion, and
integrate consideration for future housing affordability into their plans.
Population (Inclusion/ Exclusion Criteria)
Through my capstone research, I hope to shed light on the three way relationship between bicycle
lanes, community health, and gentrification. To do this, I plan to find primary research that helps me
answer the following questions.
1. How does the addition of bicycle lanes affect community economics and growth?
2. Has research shown a correlation between the addition of bicycle lanes and gentrification?
3. How does bicycle lane availability differ in low income and high income

Growing Up Samoan By Aotearoa New Zealand Essay
GROWING UP SAMOAN, IN AOTEAROA NEW ZEALAND. IDENTITY. ADAPTATION.
ACCULTURATION.
The purpose of this essay is to describe the Samoan culture as an indigenous culture prior to contact
with western civilisation. The changes that came with the advent of Christianity. Samoan migration to
Aotearoa New Zealand particularly during the influx of sought after workers, from 1950s to1980s.
The impact on Samoan families when employment was threatened by decreased workload and
disgruntled New Zealanders. The dawn raids of 1970s to 1980s. This history will precede the required
time frame of 1990 2010, to show the flow of events during the political climate. Within this time
frame, three takepu/Maori principles will be injected to frame the tau kumekume/positive and negative
conflict of the lived experiences of the Samoan people. These takepu will inform and navigate the
struggles of the Samoan people for social equity, as opposed to equality; particularly in the context of
social work practise. The role of Te Tiriti o Waitangi/The Treaty of Waitangi will be examined, in
personal and social work contexts; to determine how or if they unify or conflict with Samoan culture,
in Aotearoa. Within the time frame, writers, and ideologies of Samoan culture will be identified
according to their bias for or against. The resilience of the Samoan culture, and its people; and how
they emerged from the challenges they encountered. Included throughout, are my lived experiences,

What Are The Similarities Between The Julius Caesar And...
The last century of the Roman Republic holds two of greatest political alliances in history, the First
Triumvirate, created in 60 BC, and the Second Triumvirate, created in 43 BC. While the circumstances
and actions of these two unions are very different, they tend to have vey similar trends. Three men
come together to increase their political power, take control of the Republic, and fight against a
particular group that opposes them. First, we shall look at the creations of these two alliances, as they
seem to have distinct similarities. The characters that fill these two coalitions, a brilliant politician, a
military commander, and a successful senator, share similar qualities in themselves. Finally, they both
end in a similar fashion, as the two more successful men fight for control of the Roman State. In 60
BC Gaius Julius Caesar returned to Rome from his governorship of Hispania Ulterior. There he has
successfully campaigned against local tribes and given a triumph. Roman law stated that generals
given a triumph had to stay outside the city until the triumph commenced, but Caesar also wanted to
run for the consulship of 59 BC, which he had to be in the city to declare. The Senate, led by Cato,
denied his request to run in absentia, so Caesar gave up his triumph to become a candidate. Caesar had
a lot of opposition against him in the senate, especially from the optimates. The greatest Roman
general in 60 BC is Gneaus Pompeius, a man given the title Magnus (The Great)

Slavery Impact On Roman Economy
The impact of Slavery on the Roman Economy
I will split the economic impact of slave labor into the three major sectors often used by modern
economists (National Bureau of Economic Research, n.d.).
1. Primary economies involve raw materials produced by farming, mining, logging, etc.
2. Secondary economy involves manufacturing of goods such as pottery, tools, and sundry goods.
3. Tertiary economy involves trade, and sales of goods.
Less indirect impacts such as the centralization of wealth, and the suppression of offshoot economies,
and the economic impacts on subgroups will also be discussed.
Primary Economy
With the introduction of cheap slave labor many raw materials, particularly in the area of farming and
mining could be produced at significantly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When most of the workers are slaves with little disposable income, there is little net benefit to the
local economy. An additional factor is that newer and smaller companies usually employ more people
(National Bureau of Economic Research, n.d.). Unfortunately, with the centralization of wealth and
power small farms and businesses were often suppressed or gobbled up by the wealthy. Summary
The slave economy helped increase the inflow of wealth to Rome filling it s coffers and benefiting the
wealthy nobility which grew up to take advantage of it. It was the strength of this economy, which
helped Rome achieve Greatness. This however, came at a cost since that wealth was unevenly
distributed and used to suppress competition from the less wealthy. In addition, a significant portion of
the population was pushed into poverty resulting in a welfare state. Thus resulting in a drain on the
public coffers and the loss of productivity these people would normally have provided.
I leave this discussion with a final thought. Rome was full of creative thinkers, architects, and
engineers. If Rome had managed to wean itself off of cheap slave labor, would solutions to rising
labor costs goaded them into the creation of an industrial revolution, 1500 years in advanced to our

Examples Of Id Ego And Superego In Lord Of The Flies
Sigmund Freud created the structural model of personality that describes the id, ego, and superego
parts of a person. Id is represented as the devil and based on the pleasure and benefiting themselves.
Ego is the angel and devil together, where there is balance of good and bad. Lastly, superego is shown
as the angel with good behavior and morals. In Golding s book Lord of the Flies, he uses Jack, Ralph,
and Piggy to represent Sigmund Freud s theory of the three personalities: id, ego, and superego.
Throughout the book, it can be noticed that Jack has the id personality. He wants to kill the pigs not
for the benefit of the group, but for himself. He can also be seen as the devil because of how he acts.
When Ralph and Jack were talking to each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the group were discussing about the fire, Piggy says, Cos the smoke s a signal and we can t be
rescued if we don t have smoke (173). Piggy is working to help out the boys by trying to inform them
about their situation, and how they can fix it together. Piggy is the voice of reason out of all the boys
by telling them how things will affect them as a group, and that is just like how the superego tells the
ego on how the action will influence society. Piggy always wants what is best for the group, and wants
them all to get off the island safely. When the group decided to move the fire from the mountain,
Golding describes, Piggy was so full of delight and expanding liberty in Jack s departure, so full of
pride in his contribution to the good of society, that he helped to fetch wood (129). Piggy wants to
guide the boys on the right path of survival, and enjoys when he is able to help. His involvement in
book by helping Ralph and the other boys is based on the focus of the superego to help the needs of
society.
Golding s Lord of the Flies takes the structural model of personality and uses it to represent Jack,
Ralph, and Piggy in the novel. He uses them to show how they interact with each other in society. He
wants the readers to understand that the id makes decisions and actions that feels good for themselves,
and not for others. The superego wants to help out society, and follow good morals, but often gets
overpowered and ignored by the id. Lasty, the ego is a balance of the two, and listens to both the

The Stock Market Crash Of 1929, By Brenda Lange
On October 29, 1929, America experienced the most calamitous stock market crash in its history.
Although some tried to prevent the crash from getting worse, the fear and panic that so many
Americans felt, caused them to make a horrible situation even worse. The 1929 stock market crash
affected America in several ways, causing America to go from a time of prosperity, to a time of strife,
leading Americans to lose billions of dollars and also leading to an increase in homelessness and
unemployment rates, leaving America devastated.
Before the market crash, many people were happy and optimistic about the future. Brenda Lange,
author of The Stock Market Crash of 1929, wrote that the time before the crash was a time of
optimism and hope, and the future looked promising. (Lange 12), referring to how people had nothing
to worry about. With a majority of people believing that nothing bad would happen, the small signs of
the future crash went unnoticed, leading to a mass panic when the market first went down, which was
a partial cause of the October 29th crash. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Therefore, all stock prices went down by a immense percentage, causing citizens and companies alike

The title of the text is Anne meets her class . The author s name is Dora Jessie Saint, best known by
pen name Miss Reed, she is an English novelist. The text is extract from the novel Fresh from the
Country , the story of a young country girl who has taken a first teaching job in the big city.
The text tells us about first day of a young teacher at school. She was introduced to her new class by
the headmistress. At that moment Anne felt helpless and embarrassed. The headmistress, Miss

When Miss Enderby gave Anne final instructions I think Anne felt reassurance because Miss Enderby
was very polite and she said that she could depend on her. In my opinion in school Anne was attentive
and diligent student, she was active and had good relations with teachers. When the headmistress went
out and the noise grew in volume, because the children communicate with each other very animatedly,
Anne remembered advice given her at college in such a situation: to stand still and to be calm and
gradually children will notice that you are waiting. Such advice could give her one of her teachers.
Plot structure of the text is direct. It consists of the exposition: Anne meets her class ; the beginning of
the plot: Miss Enderby goes out of the class ; plot complications begin with the phrase Anne gave
watery smile and end with the phrase Anne advanced into action ; the climax of the text is considered
in the following phrase: To your desks! she roared, And quickly. and the denouement: Anne s self
esteem crept back .
My attitude to Anne is positive. Reading this extract I understood that she is good natured and modest
person and treats with respect to other people. What about the text itself? Unfortunately we don t
know the continuation of the story, but

Corporate and Social Responsibility
CRITICAL REVIEW OF ARTICLES
D. Birch (2002). Social, Economic and Environmental Capital. Corporate Citizenship in a New
Economy. Deakin University, Melbourne
J.M. Darley (2005). How Organizations Socialize Individuals into Evildoing
In recent years, Corporate and Social Responsibility has become an ever increasing concern and
source of community debate. It is now socially accepted that corporations have some ongoing
responsibility, though sometimes ignored, to set a good example, make decisions based on social good
and on ensuring positive environmental practices.
The two articles reviewed both focus on this corporate responsibility but they have very different
approaches and draw very different conclusions. John Darley s ... Show more content on

Acknowledging that such a change in thinking is easier said than done, Birch still determines that this
type of Sustainable Capitalism needs to be at the heart of New Economics – it is about investing in
the long term (p.5).
While I believe this is an overly simplified way of looking at the problem of ensuring corporate
responsibility I think it does offer hope for future corporate social reform and some means for
achieving this reform. How we perceive, deal with and interact with corporations and how they
interact with each other may well have to change if there are to be broad sweeping changes within the
corporate world involving social responsibilities. Consideration also needs to be given not only to
incentives for acting responsibly but for deterrents and penalties.
As both articles identified, there is a growing desire in the community for greater care, a sense of
involvement and social corporate interaction. While Birch examines this desire in terms of positive
corporate influence and increased interaction in the community and then offers some ideas on ways to
move forward, Darley focuses on the concern caused by lack of past corporate responsibility and how
individuals played a part in these larger processes.
Corporate Responsibility is obviously a broad reaching topic that is composed of many other factors.
Neither article chose to look in depth at some of these other

Development and Further Enlargement of European Union
ACCESSION CRITERIA: HISTORY OF DEVELOPMENT AND FURTHER ENLARGEMENT OF
THE EU: WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO TURKEY
Building of the European Union (EU) is a political project intended to eradicate returning wars and to
fortify autonomous values, prosperity, and constancy on the European continent 1. The plan of
European Union come out and developed in the course of history, and Turkey has been an element of
this common history and tradition. The Ottoman Empire, modern day Turkey s governmental ancestor,
had its most expanded provinces in the Balkans started in 14th century. For almost five centuries, the
Ottoman Empire was a significant player in the region and a component of the Concert of Europe1.
Also to its profound historic line, Turkey s relationships with Europe have been revived with current
geopolitical growths. Turkey plays a moderating function in the European border as a not religious
and autonomous country. A lot of people argue that abiding change in Turkey on its way to EU
succession may fortify Turkey s stabilizing function with relationships to its neighbors and in the EU,
and therefore add to safety in Europe2. Moreover, Turkey is a regional power and that adds to regional
safety in the Middle East, and consequently, in the US. Turkey s succession might as well lessen the
cultural segregations in Europe, particularly those pertaining to immigration and the assimilation of
Muslims into European societies. The subsequent curriculum will give a wide setting

Rogers gave the Korean government ten days to apologize or begin talks, but the Royal Court kept

Summary Of Oppression By Paul Laurence Dunbar
Oppression is at the root of many of the most serious, enduring conflicts in the world. Times were
tough in America during the turn of the century. Lots of changes were occurring, and many folks had a
difficult time coming to terms with them. Black Americans in particular found themselves caught in a
culture that appeared somewhat better than it had been before and during the Civil War. But the fact of
the matter was: things just weren t so peachy. This poem is a reaction to the racial climate of the late
nineteenth century. The son of former slaves, Paul Laurence Dunbar, was born on June 27, 1872 in
Dayton, Ohio to parents who had been enslaved in Kentucky before the American Civil War. At age
33, he died of tuberculosis on February 9, 1906. He was the first African American poet to reach a
wide audience, publishing verse poems and short stories before his early death. His use of both negro
dialect and standard English helped to portray his cultural lifestyle, joys, and tribulations
distinguishing him from other writers of the late 1800s, early 1900s. In his poem, the speaker opens
the poem with the declaration that we wear masks that hide our true feelings. He goes on to emphasize
the severity of the pain and suffering that these masks try to cover up. By the end we understand that
all of the politeness and subdued emotions are just phony disguises of the painful truths that hide
behind them. With that knowledge, he try s to get his audience to understand his purpose in

Racial Tensions And Racial Profiling
With the recent upheaval in Ferguson, Missouri, racial tensions have taken a center stage role in the
daily lives of many Americans. Color blindness remains the gut response to inequality, but this ignores
the fact that heritage makes us inevitably different. Thus, the question, why does society continue to
assimilate other races into a color blind whiteness instead of recognizing and affirming difference?
In modern society, racism is on a fast track to becoming a buzz word. Terms such as cracker and the n
word as racial slurs hurt feelings, but that does not make them racist. The racism comes from the
historical context of the word and its reinforcement through time. Cracker is an example of racial
prejudice but not racism because the word originally means someone in the south that refused to
integrate after the civil war. However, the n word is both racial prejudice and racist due to its
historically oppressive context of slavery and association with the status of black bodies as animals of
domination. While everyone is hurt by racial prejudice, this divergence is critical when addressing
issues of race. This difference removes all chances of reverse racism that many whites claim as a
means of victimization in order to claim their oppression of minorities is reciprocal. Essentially,
racism is prejudice from a position of power and privilege.
With the surfacing of the civil rights movement, self proclaimed advocates for equality incorporate an
ethic of

The Concepts Of Marketing And Marketing
Marketing deals with people s emotions and feelings, it also includes knowledge about the buyer s
psychology, his motives, attitudes, as well as influences of his family, groups of friends, and culture.
To increase advertisements persuasiveness, advertisers can use various means, such as the theory of
cognitive dissonance
The elements of the marketing process are referred to as a set of controllable tools that the firm blends

The marketing process contains four steps. These four steps are all completed with the objective of
creating value for your target customers. Some elements of the steps are executed continuously, for
example monitoring the marketing environment. A few are done annually, that include the annual
development of a marketing communications plan. Lastly, some of the steps, if done correctly, ought

they listen to the chanting s of monks, reading from religious texts. Unlike other religions, Buddhists
do not consider the Buddha a god, but instead worship him out of respect.
Most world religions have one sacred text. Unlike these religions, Buddhism has more than one sacred
text. Each group of Buddhists have a different set of scriptures. The main Buddhists belief is that of
the four noble truths. The first is Dukkha (life is suffering). The second is Tanha (the cause of
suffering is the desire for the pleasures of life). The third is Nirvana (The way to end suffering is by
overcoming desire and experiencing enlightenment). The final one, is that to overcome desire, one
must follow the principles of the middle way or the eightfold path.
There are three main religious buildings for Buddhists. A temple contains a shrine and meditation
often takes place here. The second is a monastery. This is where a group of men or woman who are so
devoted to their religion that they have chosen to withdraw from everyday society. These men and
woman are called monks or nuns. The final type of building is a Stupa or a pagoda. These monuments
are very decorative and are built over the remains of nuns or monks.
The main celebrations of Buddhists is Vesak. Other festivals include the Buddhist New Year and
Losar.
There three major groups of Buddhists are Mahayana

Quantitative Techniques Used By Marketing Costing, Time...
Abstract In today s competitive world, apart from a few isolated cases (e.g. luxury goods), the selling
price of a product is predefined by the market because customers are not willing to pay more than a
certain amount of money for the product. Hence cost is one of the most influential factors in the
outcome of a product or service. Hence over the past years different costing techniques are evolved
such as operation based approach, case based, break down approach, feature based costing, Activity
based costing, time driven activity based costing etc. These techniques are classified based on
techniques with similar features. They are mainly classified into qualitative techniques and
quantitative techniques. Qualitative cost estimation techniques are based on a comparison analysis of a
new product with the products that have been manufactured previously in order to identify the
similarities in the new one. Whereas the quantitative techniques are based on a detailed analysis of a
product design, its features, and corresponding manufacturing processes. Therefore quantitative
techniques are more preferred. Time driven activity based costing is a relatively new tool based on
quantitative technique.
This article provides a comprehensive literature review of Time Driven Activity Based Costing
(TDABC), which is used to improve the cost allocation to products in manufacturing industry. This
paper presents evolution of costing techniques and TDABC. It also gives detailed description

Discovery Of Uranus Research Paper
Discovery of Uranus by William Herschel in 1781
In 1781 William Herschel, discovered the planet we know today as Uranus. Herschel, who had been
raised in a musical family, was an amateur astronomer who enjoyed charting the sky in sections each
night. Herschel used his skills in music to fund his passions for astronomy and building telescopes.
Through his nightly charting, Herschel discovered Uranus. Initially, Herschel thought it was a comet
because of its slightly askew shape, however upon further exploration he found it to be a planet.
Herschel confirmed his discovery by contacting Nevil Maskelyne. Maskelyne was the astronomer
royal. Herschel named the planet Georgium Sidus after King George III. France would not use the
name, calling the

The Cloud Based Electronic Health Record
The Cloud Year after year, installing, upgrading, patching, backing up and, in general troubleshooting
server issues was a taxing responsibility that burdened the day to day operations of a practice. Finally,
a cloud based electronic health record (EHR) system removes the obligation from playing IT tech and
lets one focus on managing practice operations and patient care. More and more, EHR vendors are
developing cloud based systems due to the client demand for a product that is reliable, versatile,
practical and convenient to all users, including physicians, staff, patients and third party companies.
Introducing a practical workflow that streamlines the day to day processes to include record
documentation, prescription, diagnostic and laboratory ordering, scheduling, insurance verification,
billing and collection tasks, improve effectiveness and efficiency of the practice. As more importance
is focused on patient care, as opposed to focusing on purchasing and maintaining hardware and
software, a cloud based EHR system relieves some of the financial costs and time consuming duties
associated with managing an on site server. Providing bi directional integration with laboratories and
third party companies with an option to publish results to the patient portal plays a crucial role in
enhancing patient doctor relationship while empowering patients to manage their health. Therefore, a
cloud based EHR system adds considerable value to the medical practice. Cloud based EHR systems

Case 3.2 Sonoma Essay
Answer
The problem is to be formulated as two integer programming problems, one for the first year and the
other for the second year.
I Year Problem
Total fund available = $10,000
For convenience rename the brand Petite Sirah as Brand I and brand Sauvignon Blanc as Brand II
For Brand I the cost for grape is $0.80 per bottle and for Brand II the cost for grape is $0.70 per bottle.
It is given that one dollar spent for promoting Brand I produce a demand for 5 bottles and one dollar
spent for promoting Brand II produce a demand for 8 bottles . This means the advertisement cost per
bottle for Brand I is $0.20 and the advertisement cost per bottle for Brand II is $0.125.
The cost profit structure of the two brands during the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
cost |Total cost |Selling Price |Profit |
|Brand I |$0.75 |$0.167 |$0.917 |$8.25 |$7.333 |
|Brand II |$0.85 |$0.100 |$0.950 |$7.00 |$6.050 |
Suppose George decide to produce X bottles of Brand I and Y bottles of Brand II
Then the total profit function to be maximised is [pic]
Total amount required is [pic].
Hence the constraint on the funds becomes C1: [pic]
Further it is given that the proportion of Brand I should be between 40% and 60%. The corresponding
constraint becomes [pic] This can be expressed as two constraints as follows
C2: [pic]
C3: [pic]
Thus the second year problem can be expressed as the following integer programming problem.
Maximize [pic]
Subject to [pic] [pic] [pic] X and Y non negative integers
Solution of the problem using Solver of MS Excel is as follows
| |X |Y |Function |limits |

The Energy Source Of Energy
In an era where fossil fuels are the dominant source of energy, environmentalists and scientists are
looking for alternative energy sources in the fear that fossil fuels will sooner or later become
consumed by our energy needs. In the hunt to find a strong alternative energy source, scientists have
reverted back to an old formula E=MC2. The indicated formula was first thought up by Albert
Einstein to describe a part of general relativity in the paper Does the Inertia of a Body Depend Upon
Its Energy Content? Furthermore, in his publication Albert Einstein explains that mass and kinetic
energy are proportionally equal. Meaning you can transfer energy into mass and vice versa. In
addition if you are able to transfer mass into energy that mass will be multiplied by the speed of light
(C) squared, meaning that a little mass can turn into a lot of energy. Moreover, Einstein s reasoning for
using the speed of light is because atoms when separated travel the speed of light thus carrying a lot of
energy. At the time Einstein was working on trying to find ways to separate and or fuse atoms in order
to gain energy and put his formula to use. However, today we have found two different ways of doing
so in what we call nuclear fusion and nuclear fission.
Nuclear fusion has been around since the big bang, as it is the process that powers stars just like ours
and is how our universe continues to grow. Moreover, nuclear fusion occurs when two or more atoms
fuse together at very high

Dipteran Research Paper
INTRODUCTION Across the globe, there are many regions that are solely dedicated to produce
different types of crops and other produce in order to support the needs and demands of society. Many
of these areas are concerned with ways to maximize their crop production, and often many insects,
particularly true flies (order Diptera), potentially affect these crops during the growing and harvesting
seasons. Dipterans have vastly important roles throughout ecosystems across the world, mainly having
the duty of pollinating as well as serving a crucial part of the food chain, allowing many insects and
animals a source of food, without having to resort to the ingestion of plants. Many authors have
discussed and examined the potential roles that dipterans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pitfall traps were positioned on a rocky hill with hard soil and periodic patches of Artemisia
tridentate (Great Basin sagebrush). Throughout the course of the study, the average temperature was
11 ºC, with an average daily maximum temperature of 18 ºC and an average daily minimum
temperature of 3 ºC. The control pitfall trap was filled with approximately 0.4 L of soapy water with a
ratio of 3:1 water to soap; the experimental pitfall trap was filled with approximately 0.2 L of soapy
water, and 0.2 L of non alcoholic wine. The pitfall traps were filled with water every other day so that
the volume was consistently at 0.4 L. The insects caught in the pitfall traps were harvested once a
week and the traps were refilled with the starting volume of solutions. The harvested insects were
stored in separate vials depending on whether they were retrieved from the soapy water or the non
alcoholic pitfall traps. The storage vials were filled with a 70% ethanol solution to preserve the
specimens. The dipterans collected from the two pitfalls were compared using a Chi squared analysis
to determine whether the non alcoholic wine was a significant dipteran

Analysis of the Movie Soundtrack Eternal Sunshine of the...
Sound
Choosing the soundtrack for a movie is another difficult task that a director has to do because they
have to find a perfect song or an instrumental track that will fit or compliment the scene that they are
editing. The soundtrack of a movie is also a guaranteed way of effecting the emotions of the audience
members. As a result, directors spend a great deal of time in choosing the right soundtrack for the
movie. They want to make sure that they target the correct emotions for each scene. The sequence of
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind featured many different sounds; such as, speech, music and
sound effects.
The scene begins with Joel and Clementine laying underneath a blanket. Clementine is telling Joel a
story from her childhood, and as she tells the story, we can hear music in the background, which is
considered non diegetic sound because the audience can hear it but not the characters in the movie.
The music we hear, as audience members, is very calming and smooth and continues to play as
Clementine tells her story. We then see Joel crawling between blankets because he is trying to catch up
with a memory that is currently being erased. As he moves to another memory, we can hear another
type of non diegetic sound; however, this time it is harsh and fast, which indicates that he is moving
fast because he does not want the memory to be erased. We continue hearing this harsh sound as he
remembers the beginning of the memory of him and Clementine

Analysis Of Kate Chopin s A Respectable Woman
Carson Chauncey
ENC 1102
Martinez
April 15, 2016
Many things one does or does not do in life are based on perception; our perception of someone, their
perception of us, and even our perception of ourselves. John Moore says, your opinion is your
opinion, your perception is your perception do not confuse them with facts or truth. Wars have been
fought and millions have been killed because of the inability of men to understand the idea that
everybody has a different viewpoint (Quotations for Martial Artists, John Moore, p 1). In Kate Chopin
s A Respectable Woman, perception is a major theme; for example, Mrs. Baroda s perception of her
husband s friend, Gouvernail, shifts drastically throughout the short story. Chopin s main theme of
perception is displayed well because of her use of literary devices such as imagery, setting and
dialogue; through these devices, Chopin reveals Mrs. Baroda s feelings and thoughts, based on the
way she perceives Gouvernail before, during and after meeting him for the first time; this paper will
discuss the literary devices and how Kate Chopin uses them to portray themes of freedom, identity,
desire, as well as perception. In the beginning of the story, Chopin uses description in order to form
Mrs. Baroda s initial perception of Gouvernail when she finds out her husband had invited him to
spend a few weeks on their plantation; Mrs. Baroda was less than pleased to discover his arrival. Mrs.

  • 3. Treaty Of Guadalupe Hidalgo Essay One of the most important documents in the history of the state of Texas is the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, whose many functions included the termination of the Mexican American War, the establishment of the Rio Grande as the official border between the state of Texas and the country of Mexico, as well as granting rights to all Mexican citizens living in the state (Collier et al. 12). However, it is essential to recognize how the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo established the core identity of Texas an ethnically and culturally diverse state because of the functions explicitly outlined in within its text, making it the marker of a major turning point in the history of the state (Collier et al. 12). Despite these troubles, years of cultural assimilation and population growth has led to Hispanics composing 38.6% of the state s population as of 2014, according to the data presented by Collier et al., making Texas a majority minority state (28). This term can be applied because Hispanics, being an ethnic minority, make up a large part of population of the state, and have a large influence on politics and culture due to how ingrained they have become in the history of Texas (Collier et al. 27). After being mentally scarred by what he had seen, he tried to write a letter to the Minister of state explaining what he had witnessed, but then he was stopped by the Marquis family and then wrongfully thrown into prison. When we first were introduced to Dr. Manette, he was in the top of a wine shop making shoes. This time was most likely where his mental state was at its worse because he had no idea that he wasn t in prison anymore. He was in such bad condition that he referred to himself as cell 105 North Tower (Where he was kept in prison) and didn t recognize his daughter when she came to find him. We start to see things get better for him after his daughter starts to take care of him and take him away from the wine shop. She nurses him back to health but we still see that he has trouble with his past. Even though he is almost back to normal and doing much better, we still see that things can set him back to when he made shoes as a prisoner. An example of this is when Charles Darnay talks to Dr. Manette about his love for Lucie. When having this conversation, he starts to talk to him about his horrible past and Dr. Manette immediately stops him and becomes very pale and stressed out about this past. My present name, though but slightly changed from my mother s, is not, as you will remember, my own. I wish to tell you what that is, and why I am in England. Stop! Said the Doctor of Beauvais. I wish it, that I may the better deserve your confidence , and have no secret from you. The Doctor then proceeds to cover his ears and refuse to listen to Charles. Finally when we see Charles Darnay tell Dr. Manette his past before his and Lucies wedding we see Dr. Manette go back to making shoes and remember nothing that had happened in the time that had passed, where he wasn t in the wine shop. • 11. The Trinity And The Kingdom Of God Preamble Over the past few decades there has been much written, from both Catholic and Protestant perspectives, on the doctrine of the Trinity . The consensus among these various writings has been that, although the doctrine is important and central to the Christian faith and theology, it has been neglected and made obscure, and has become a complex and theological technical term . This obscurity renders the doctrine of the Trinity impossible to understand or apply to ordinary life. Karl Rahner in his observations insists that modern Christians are almost mere monotheists , only paying lip service to the doctrine of Trinity but lacking in the actual practices . Rahner s observation has been widely acknowledged with the desire being to make a change . The need to place the doctrine of the Trinity at the heart of Christianity would be considered the epistemological and methodological safe ground upon which other doctrines are based. The true definition is a stand still uncontested shot that is placed fifteen feet or four and fifty seven hundredths meters from the basketball hoop (Lowry,5/13/07). In a coach s mind free throws should be automatic, a player should rarely miss a free throw. But as the game keeps evolving, the fundamental of the free throw is being lost. There are plenty of things that go into the shot, first the routine, then the balance, after that you look at the rim or sight your goal, and finally you shoot (Timms, 10/6/08). If you are missing mechanics or balance it will throw off your shot, even changing your routine can drop your free ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A routine consists of dribbles, spins, and breaths, whatever someone s routine is it will only be effective if they repeat it (Lowry,5/13/07). If you change your routine a couple times in one season it can throw off your rhythm and drop your shot percentage. Rhythm follows routine because with the routine comes rhythm. When the shooter repeats their routine for a long period of time the natural rhythm flows into the shot and helps the percentage (McCormick, 2/10/10). Of all these three things, none of them are the most important, one must repeat all of them to be considered a good free throw shooter. Focusing during a free throw is one of the most key things you can do. With the game on the line the shooter cannot be thinking about the pressure they must think about the shot and that s it. When the crowd is yelling wildly the shooter must clear their mind and do what feels natural (Timms, 10/6/08). A free throw is shot from the same spot with no defensive pressure being the reason it is called a FREE throw (McCormick, 2/10/10). When a free throw is missed it is the mechanics, rhythm, or focus that went wrong. Coaches believe that free throws are inexcusable, even though there are plenty of things that could go wrong that is why a true shooter repeats his routine and shot form every ... Prescribed drug treatment seems to be the strongest source of psychological stress control. The effect of the drugs is simple; they suitably block or reduce the activity of the brains neurotransmitter for release of serotonin, or directly reduce activity in the pathways leading to the nervous system around the body, not allowing blood pressure or the heart rate to rise, as it is these bodily systems that influence the feelings of anxiety. Once blocked or suppressed the individual when faced with a stressor will feel much calmer and able to cope with the unwanted stressor presented to them. Weaknesses. • 16. Lord Of The Flies Film Analysis Many students across the United States read the classic novel Lord of the Flies written by William Golding. The story traces a group of lost boys who find themselves alone on an island after opposing forces shoot down their escape plane during a futuristic version of World War III. Because of the novel s uncanny resemblance to other classics, like Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson or Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie, Lord of the Flies quickly caught fire, eventually leading to two film adaptations. Tony and Emmy Award winning Peter Brook released the first film adaptation 1963. Brook s adaptation consists of a randomly selected group of British schoolboys with no real scripts on a tiny island off the coast of Puerto Rico. Brook takes advantage of the dialogue, visuals, and character foils in order to effectively portray the theme: darkness in man s heart. While Brook had a small amount of funding and the boys simply improvised most of the lines, the 1963 film adaptation of Lord of the Flies portrays the theme better than the original novel. Being able to hear the dialogue between the boys on the island already gives the film an advantage. In the movie, Ralph s kind actions and his sincere tone when he talks to Piggy is much more obvious than in the same dialogue in the novel. For example, in both the movie and the novel, Jack breaks Piggy s glasses. In the novel, the narrator observes that Unwillingly Ralph felt his lip twitch; he was angry with himself for giving way ... In 2011, researchers concluded that Jean trained the wolf, killed the people, and then killed the wolf to make it look like a beast. Still to this day, no one knows for sure what happened ( Mysteries at the Museum n.p.). Per World of Mythology, the attacks of the beast started in 1764. People all around hunted every wolf they could find, hoping it would be the beast, but the attacks continued. In 1765, Francois Antoine killed a large grey wolf, but the attacks continued Also in 1765, a doctor came across a man in a wolf suit assaulting a woman and killed him but the attacks still went on. Finally, a man by the name Jean Chastel discovered that if a silver bullet is blessed by a church, it could kill the beast. Chastel got three silver bullets blessed by the local church and went into the woods, returning with a dead wolf. This was the final attack on a wolf by the time the attacks stopped. Chastel said he went into the woods and found the giant wolf. He was the size of a horse and looked like a panther and wolf hybrid. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This could start a domino effect and cause an economic meltdown in states like Texas, New Mexico, and North Dakota (Egan). This event was caused by the U.S. s dependence on imported foreign oil, because when the U.S. imports more than half of the oil it uses on a daily basis, someone else has the control over the economy. Energy dependence is not a new problem but one that started in 1973 after the oil embargo. It was caused by the Arabian government cutting off the oil and gas supply as a protest against the U.S. support for the Israel in the war between Egypt and Syria (Myre). President Richard Nixon gave a speech claiming his plan called Project Independence could produce enough energy needed in America and stop importing oil and gas by 1980. Then in 1975, President Gerald Ford had a similar plan with a deadline of 1985, and this was the cycle that lasted eight presidents so far. The deadline has now been moved up to 2025, but now, the U.S. is in a hole more than ever before. In the 1970s, imports only accounted for about 30% of all oil consumed. In 2010, imports account for 60% to 70% of all oil consumed. This problem has accelerated almost to the point of no return (Gottesdiener). • 20. Bishop Spong And The Bible Bishop Spong is certainly not like most church leaders, he views religion and religious beliefs as they should apply to the current generation and incorporates the Bible into society not as fundamental law but by addressing the overall message of God I choose to discuss Bishops Spongs ideas with someone not in this class and I choose to confer on this subject matter with my live in boyfriend Justin. I felt that discussion on these topics with him would be beneficial not only in the completion of my course work but also contribute to the growth and understanding in our relationship of our beliefs regarding the bible and religion, divorce, and homosexuality. Throughout this course I enjoyed many of the topics and discussed them very openly with my spouse because unlike myself he is religious but did not grow up in a home in which church was attended regularly. In discussing and viewing the video on Bishop Spong and the Bible as the truth I came to the conclusion that people agree with the Bishop Spongs statements that the Bible is used most times to support injustice and prejudice with in the world. Justin has always told me since we met that while he believes in God he feels the Bible is just a history book and can be used as a guide for humankind but cannot be applied to the present day. Initially I must say I was a little offended but upon taking this course we can agree that many stories in the Bible tend to be conflicting. In many ways this is a reflection upon society ... I plan to study the paradoxical relationship between the health benefits of safe cycling infrastructure and the claim that it promotes gentrification and drives the communities it is intended to serve further into the peripheries of cycling friendly cities. In November 2016, Austin voters passed Proposition I, which granted $137 million dollars to improve sidewalks and urban pathways1. Among opponents of improving cycling infrastructure in East Austin, many pointed out that bicycle lanes would increase the growing pressures of gentrification on the lower income members of the community. I am personally interested in this topic because I believe that access to environments that promote healthy lifestyles should not be restricted to the wealthy, and that city governments should concentrate on increasing bike ability and walkability in lower income neighborhoods. However, before interest groups launch advocacy and infrastructure expansion, it is important that they understand the effects of that expansion, and integrate consideration for future housing affordability into their plans. Population (Inclusion/ Exclusion Criteria) Through my capstone research, I hope to shed light on the three way relationship between bicycle lanes, community health, and gentrification. The last century of the Roman Republic holds two of greatest political alliances in history, the First Triumvirate, created in 60 BC, and the Second Triumvirate, created in 43 BC. While the circumstances and actions of these two unions are very different, they tend to have vey similar trends. Three men come together to increase their political power, take control of the Republic, and fight against a particular group that opposes them. First, we shall look at the creations of these two alliances, as they seem to have distinct similarities. The characters that fill these two coalitions, a brilliant politician, a military commander, and a successful senator, share similar qualities in themselves. Finally, they both end in a similar fashion, as the two more successful men fight for control of the Roman State. In 60 BC Gaius Julius Caesar returned to Rome from his governorship of Hispania Ulterior. There he has successfully campaigned against local tribes and given a triumph. Roman law stated that generals given a triumph had to stay outside the city until the triumph commenced, but Caesar also wanted to run for the consulship of 59 BC, which he had to be in the city to declare. The Senate, led by Cato, denied his request to run in absentia, so Caesar gave up his triumph to become a candidate. Caesar had a lot of opposition against him in the senate, especially from the optimates. The greatest Roman general in 60 BC is Gneaus Pompeius, a man given the title Magnus (The Great) ... Tertiary economy involves trade, and sales of goods. An additional factor is that newer and smaller companies usually employ more people (National Bureau of Economic Research, n.d.). Unfortunately, with the centralization of wealth and power small farms and businesses were often suppressed or gobbled up by the wealthy. Summary The slave economy helped increase the inflow of wealth to Rome filling it s coffers and benefiting the wealthy nobility which grew up to take advantage of it. It was the strength of this economy, which helped Rome achieve Greatness. This however, came at a cost since that wealth was unevenly distributed and used to suppress competition from the less wealthy. In addition, a significant portion of the population was pushed into poverty resulting in a welfare state. Thus resulting in a drain on the public coffers and the loss of productivity these people would normally have provided. I leave this discussion with a final thought. Id is represented as the devil and based on the pleasure and benefiting themselves. Ego is the angel and devil together, where there is balance of good and bad. Lastly, superego is shown as the angel with good behavior and morals. In Golding s book Lord of the Flies, he uses Jack, Ralph, and Piggy to represent Sigmund Freud s theory of the three personalities: id, ego, and superego. Piggy is the voice of reason out of all the boys by telling them how things will affect them as a group, and that is just like how the superego tells the ego on how the action will influence society. Piggy always wants what is best for the group, and wants them all to get off the island safely. When the group decided to move the fire from the mountain, Golding describes, Piggy was so full of delight and expanding liberty in Jack s departure, so full of pride in his contribution to the good of society, that he helped to fetch wood (129). Piggy wants to guide the boys on the right path of survival, and enjoys when he is able to help. His involvement in book by helping Ralph and the other boys is based on the focus of the superego to help the needs of society. Golding s Lord of the Flies takes the structural model of personality and uses it to represent Jack, Ralph, and Piggy in the novel. He uses them to show how they interact with each other in society. He wants the readers to understand that the id makes decisions and actions that feels good for themselves, and not for others. Although some tried to prevent the crash from getting worse, the fear and panic that so many Americans felt, caused them to make a horrible situation even worse. The 1929 stock market crash affected America in several ways, causing America to go from a time of prosperity, to a time of strife, leading Americans to lose billions of dollars and also leading to an increase in homelessness and unemployment rates, leaving America devastated. How we perceive, deal with and interact with corporations and how they interact with each other may well have to change if there are to be broad sweeping changes within the corporate world involving social responsibilities. Consideration also needs to be given not only to incentives for acting responsibly but for deterrents and penalties. As both articles identified, there is a growing desire in the community for greater care, a sense of involvement and social corporate interaction. While Birch examines this desire in terms of positive corporate influence and increased interaction in the community and then offers some ideas on ways to move forward, Darley focuses on the concern caused by lack of past corporate responsibility and how individuals played a part in these larger processes. • 35. Summary Of Oppression By Paul Laurence Dunbar Oppression is at the root of many of the most serious, enduring conflicts in the world. Times were tough in America during the turn of the century. Lots of changes were occurring, and many folks had a difficult time coming to terms with them. Black Americans in particular found themselves caught in a culture that appeared somewhat better than it had been before and during the Civil War. But the fact of the matter was: things just weren t so peachy. This poem is a reaction to the racial climate of the late nineteenth century. The son of former slaves, Paul Laurence Dunbar, was born on June 27, 1872 in Dayton, Ohio to parents who had been enslaved in Kentucky before the American Civil War. At age 33, he died of tuberculosis on February 9, 1906. He was the first African American poet to reach a wide audience, publishing verse poems and short stories before his early death. His use of both negro dialect and standard English helped to portray his cultural lifestyle, joys, and tribulations distinguishing him from other writers of the late 1800s, early 1900s. In his poem, the speaker opens the poem with the declaration that we wear masks that hide our true feelings. He goes on to emphasize the severity of the pain and suffering that these masks try to cover up. By the end we understand that all of the politeness and subdued emotions are just phony disguises of the painful truths that hide behind them. (DiBonaventura, page 10). What they mean by HrQol (DiBonaventura, page 10) is a person s quality of life. In DiBonaventura et al. research they found that insomnia negatively impacts a person s life, the same happens to the narrator in Fight Club. The antisocial behavior is evident after he secretly blows up his apartment and destroys everything he owns, this act itself in not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Ella The Curse What do you think it would be like to have a curse? Probably it would be challenging. My favorite part of the movie is when Lucinda shows up in her room in the begging of the movie to give Ella the curse because it is where the story begins. When I first saw that part I think what is going to happen with her curse? I recommend the movie than the novel because the movie brings everything to life so you can see what will happen. Now I will share some similarities between the movie and the novel. At the begging of the novel Ella and char are basically want nothing to do with each other, especially Ella. In the movie it s the same. Also the movie and the novel have mostly all the characters Ella Char, Hattie, Olive, Dame, Mandy, and Lucinda. Secondly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Racial Tensions And Racial Profiling With the recent upheaval in Ferguson, Missouri, racial tensions have taken a center stage role in the daily lives of many Americans. Color blindness remains the gut response to inequality, but this ignores the fact that heritage makes us inevitably different. Thus, the question, why does society continue to assimilate other races into a color blind whiteness instead of recognizing and affirming difference? In modern society, racism is on a fast track to becoming a buzz word. Terms such as cracker and the n word as racial slurs hurt feelings, but that does not make them racist. The racism comes from the historical context of the word and its reinforcement through time. Cracker is an example of racial prejudice but not racism because the word originally means someone in the south that refused to integrate after the civil war. However, the n word is both racial prejudice and racist due to its historically oppressive context of slavery and association with the status of black bodies as animals of domination. While everyone is hurt by racial prejudice, this divergence is critical when addressing issues of race. This difference removes all chances of reverse racism that many whites claim as a means of victimization in order to claim their oppression of minorities is reciprocal. Essentially, racism is prejudice from a position of power and privilege. With the surfacing of the civil rights movement, self proclaimed advocates for equality incorporate an ethic of ... Some elements of the steps are executed continuously, for example monitoring the marketing environment. A few are done annually, that include the annual development of a marketing communications plan. Lastly, some of the steps, if done correctly, ought to last for decades, such as segmentation, targeting, and positioning. (According J. • 41. Buddhism And Its Impact On The World Buddhism is a well known religion that has taken the world by storm. With 300,000,000 believers worldwide. According to the 2006 census 2.6% of Australians are Buddhist. It originated in an area of Nepal that was originally part of Northern India. Although there are 300 million Buddhists worldwide, they all share the same core beliefs. Instead of an afterlife, Buddhists believe in Reincarnation, the cycle of birth, death, and being reborn again as either a plant, animal, or human. Buddhism was founded by Siddhartha Guatama. The third is Nirvana (The way to end suffering is by overcoming desire and experiencing enlightenment). The final one, is that to overcome desire, one must follow the principles of the middle way or the eightfold path. There are three main religious buildings for Buddhists. • 42. Quantitative Techniques Used By Marketing Costing, Time... Abstract In today s competitive world, apart from a few isolated cases (e.g. luxury goods), the selling price of a product is predefined by the market because customers are not willing to pay more than a certain amount of money for the product. Hence cost is one of the most influential factors in the outcome of a product or service. Hence over the past years different costing techniques are evolved such as operation based approach, case based, break down approach, feature based costing, Activity based costing, time driven activity based costing etc. These techniques are classified based on techniques with similar features. They are mainly classified into qualitative techniques and quantitative techniques. Qualitative cost estimation techniques are based on a comparison analysis of a new product with the products that have been manufactured previously in order to identify the similarities in the new one. Whereas the quantitative techniques are based on a detailed analysis of a product design, its features, and corresponding manufacturing processes. Therefore quantitative techniques are more preferred. Time driven activity based costing is a relatively new tool based on quantitative technique. This article provides a comprehensive literature review of Time Driven Activity Based Costing (TDABC), which is used to improve the cost allocation to products in manufacturing industry. This paper presents evolution of costing techniques and TDABC. It also gives detailed description ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Herschel, who had been raised in a musical family, was an amateur astronomer who enjoyed charting the sky in sections each night. Herschel used his skills in music to fund his passions for astronomy and building telescopes. Through his nightly charting, Herschel discovered Uranus. Initially, Herschel thought it was a comet because of its slightly askew shape, however upon further exploration he found it to be a planet. Herschel confirmed his discovery by contacting Nevil Maskelyne. Maskelyne was the astronomer royal. Herschel named the planet Georgium Sidus after King George III. • 44. The Cloud Based Electronic Health Record The Cloud Year after year, installing, upgrading, patching, backing up and, in general troubleshooting server issues was a taxing responsibility that burdened the day to day operations of a practice. Finally, a cloud based electronic health record (EHR) system removes the obligation from playing IT tech and lets one focus on managing practice operations and patient care. More and more, EHR vendors are developing cloud based systems due to the client demand for a product that is reliable, versatile, practical and convenient to all users, including physicians, staff, patients and third party companies. Introducing a practical workflow that streamlines the day to day processes to include record documentation, prescription, diagnostic and laboratory ordering, scheduling, insurance verification, billing and collection tasks, improve effectiveness and efficiency of the practice. As more importance is focused on patient care, as opposed to focusing on purchasing and maintaining hardware and software, a cloud based EHR system relieves some of the financial costs and time consuming duties associated with managing an on site server. Providing bi directional integration with laboratories and third party companies with an option to publish results to the patient portal plays a crucial role in enhancing patient doctor relationship while empowering patients to manage their health. Therefore, a cloud based EHR system adds considerable value to the medical practice. Cloud based EHR systems ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. The Energy Source Of Energy In an era where fossil fuels are the dominant source of energy, environmentalists and scientists are looking for alternative energy sources in the fear that fossil fuels will sooner or later become consumed by our energy needs. In the hunt to find a strong alternative energy source, scientists have reverted back to an old formula E=MC2. The indicated formula was first thought up by Albert Einstein to describe a part of general relativity in the paper Does the Inertia of a Body Depend Upon Its Energy Content? Furthermore, in his publication Albert Einstein explains that mass and kinetic energy are proportionally equal. Meaning you can transfer energy into mass and vice versa. In addition if you are able to transfer mass into energy that mass will be multiplied by the speed of light (C) squared, meaning that a little mass can turn into a lot of energy. Moreover, Einstein s reasoning for using the speed of light is because atoms when separated travel the speed of light thus carrying a lot of energy. At the time Einstein was working on trying to find ways to separate and or fuse atoms in order to gain energy and put his formula to use. However, today we have found two different ways of doing so in what we call nuclear fusion and nuclear fission. Nuclear fusion has been around since the big bang, as it is the process that powers stars just like ours and is how our universe continues to grow. Moreover, nuclear fusion occurs when two or more atoms fuse together at very high ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many of these areas are concerned with ways to maximize their crop production, and often many insects, particularly true flies (order Diptera), potentially affect these crops during the growing and harvesting seasons. Dipterans have vastly important roles throughout ecosystems across the world, mainly having the duty of pollinating as well as serving a crucial part of the food chain, allowing many insects and animals a source of food, without having to resort to the ingestion of plants. Many authors have discussed and examined the potential roles that dipterans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 49. Analysis of the Movie Soundtrack Eternal Sunshine of the... Sound Choosing the soundtrack for a movie is another difficult task that a director has to do because they have to find a perfect song or an instrumental track that will fit or compliment the scene that they are editing. The soundtrack of a movie is also a guaranteed way of effecting the emotions of the audience members. As a result, directors spend a great deal of time in choosing the right soundtrack for the movie. They want to make sure that they target the correct emotions for each scene. The sequence of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind featured many different sounds; such as, speech, music and sound effects. The scene begins with Joel and Clementine laying underneath a blanket. Clementine is telling Joel a story from her childhood, and as she tells the story, we can hear music in the background, which is considered non diegetic sound because the audience can hear it but not the characters in the movie. The music we hear, as audience members, is very calming and smooth and continues to play as Clementine tells her story. We then see Joel crawling between blankets because he is trying to catch up with a memory that is currently being erased. As he moves to another memory, we can hear another type of non diegetic sound; however, this time it is harsh and fast, which indicates that he is moving fast because he does not want the memory to be erased. We continue hearing this harsh sound as he remembers the beginning of the memory of him and Clementine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. Analysis Of Kate Chopin s A Respectable Woman Carson Chauncey ENC 1102 Martinez April 15, 2016 Many things one does or does not do in life are based on perception; our perception of someone, their perception of us, and even our perception of ourselves. John Moore says, your opinion is your opinion, your perception is your perception do not confuse them with facts or truth. Wars have been fought and millions have been killed because of the inability of men to understand the idea that everybody has a different viewpoint (Quotations for Martial Artists, John Moore, p 1). In Kate Chopin s A Respectable Woman, perception is a major theme; for example, Mrs. Baroda s perception of her husband s friend, Gouvernail, shifts drastically throughout the short story. Chopin s main theme of perception is displayed well because of her use of literary devices such as imagery, setting and dialogue; through these devices, Chopin reveals Mrs. Baroda s feelings and thoughts, based on the way she perceives Gouvernail before, during and after meeting him for the first time; this paper will discuss the literary devices and how Kate Chopin uses them to portray themes of freedom, identity, desire, as well as perception. In the beginning of the story, Chopin uses description in order to form Mrs. Baroda s initial perception of Gouvernail when she finds out her husband had invited him to spend a few weeks on their plantation; Mrs. Baroda was less than pleased to discover his arrival.
