Erruptions at Old Faithful Geyser
ERRUPTIONS OF THE OLD FAITHFUL GEYSER 1.0 Literature Review A geyser refers to a hot
spring that occasionally due geographical processes and difference in pressure erupts hot water and
steam in the air. The Old Faithful Geyser at Yellowstone National Park , Wyoming is one of the most
famous geyser in the world. Given the fame of this geyser, it receives visitors from various parts of the
world. For convenience of time, the national park service have erected some sign at the site to try help
visitors predict the time for the occurrence of the next eruption. The Old Faithful Geyser is not the
biggest or most regular geyser in Yellowstone but it is the biggest regular geyser. It has been erupting

The interval for the next eruption is based on the total duration of the current eruption. 1.2 Research
Question From previous studies there are misguided interpretations on the eruption duration and how
it affects the waiting time. From mere observations we can conclude that Old Faithful has a pattern
which follows a fixed set of time. The research questions that arises is; Does the eruption and waiting
time of the Old Faithful geyser follow a fixed set of time or is there a variation in the waiting time
with respect to the eruption time? 1.3 Research Methodology Data collection and sources; the data
used in this study comes from Azzalin and Bowman(1990). It includes a data frame with 272
observations on 2 variables that is eruption time and waiting time. The data is heavily rounded times
originally in seconds. Of the variables the waiting time has been used as the response variable while
eruption time appears as the predictor variable. These means that waiting time is seen to be
determined by the time an eruption takes. So we expect that the longer the eruption period, the longer
the waiting period. This paper wishes to study the test that, under the null hypothesis, there is no
variation in the waiting time. theassumptions under this hypothesis is that the interval time between
one eruption to the next is fixed and do not occur by chance. This paper shall use the

What Links Disciplines Of Literature, Philosophy And...
What links the disciplines of literature, philosophy and mathematics? The answer is, quite simply,
fiction. Fiction has probably existed since the human brain was capable of imagination, either for
distraction or for the more functional purpose of envisioning hunt scenarios when our nomadic
ancestors would need to survive. Fiction can be defined as a literary tool that fools readers or theatre
goers into thinking that the author possesses certain knowledge about the world (Plato et al., 1963) but
is usually understood as a world or scenario that is created by human imagination. However, that
doesn t necessarily make it untrue, as fiction can be based on reality and can become a useful
mechanism to convey important messages and help shape ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Numbers and equations simply to not concretely exist in our world. Maths is, after all, like any written
language, glorified scribbling that somehow resonates with meaning in our minds. Take as an example
4 = 2 + 2 . This string of symbols translates itself into what we understand is an equation: the two
sides of the = sign are the same. However, neither 4 not 2 + 2 exist. They are not visually identical. Yet
somehow we accept that connecting them with the = symbol indicates that their numerical value is
equivalent. Like fiction, maths merely requires us to suspend our disbelief long enough for us to
understand whatever story or message the author is trying to impart. This philosophical position is
called Mathematical Fictionalism. Its proponents believe that mathematics are purely fictional but are
still functional as long as its purpose is not meant to be a mirror of reality (Leng, 2016). However, this
position calls into question the validity of mathematics. Fiction, if assumed completely truthful,
becomes a lie. So if mathematics are purely a human made language created to describe phenomena
that cannot be described in another language, how can we ascertain its precision and how much power
should we give it in a discussion? Mathematical entities do not exist concretely, yet we give them
characteristics and magnitudes that allow them to be ranked, ordered and even to interact amongst

The United Kingdom Of England And Northern Ireland
Arguments by the UK:
The United Kingdom of England and Northern Ireland believes that Ecuador has no legal right or
basis to grant political or diplomatic asylum to Assange for various legal reasons that the Court is set
to debate.
First, the United Kingdom s involvement in the topic comes from their obligation to extradite Julian
Assange to Sweden under Article 35, Clause 3 of the Extradition Act of 2003. Since Sweden has filed
for an EAW that has been approved by the UK, the UK is under a formal legal obligation to extradite
Assange to Sweden. An EAW is a legal document that obligates European members to surrender
persons who have committed or are suspected of committing crimes in EU territories.15
The United Kingdom counter argues Ecuador s claim that Assange is a political refugee who has been
granted political asylum on the grounds that he is escaping persecution due to his political beliefs.
They see no relevance of Assange s political actions or views to this case as the primary purpose of his
extradition is due to allegations of sexual assault that have supposedly occurred in Sweden. Due to
sexual assault being a crime that has no known relation to his political views, the UK claims that
Assange does not fit the criteria listed within Article 1 of the United Nations Convention and Protocol
Relating to the Status of Refugees. Therefore, Assange s status as a political refugee is unfounded in
the opinion of the UK.
On the topic of his potential extradition to the

The rules and regulations regarding the student athlete are set forth by the NCAA, which serves as the

Evaluating An Informative Speech
In an informative speech, the quintessential aspect that can make or break your speech is the audience.
If the audience is a group of 12 year olds, then giving a speech on how to retire at 65 is not going to
draw a positive response. Knowing certain demographics about the audience, including age, gender,
race and many others should determine the topic of your speech. Accordingly, the relevancy of my
speech played a pivotal role in its effectiveness because of how relatable an issue it was to my
audience. Also, sharing the same demographic with the audience gave the speech a more familiar tone,
than the normal speech given by someone who is older. In my informative speech, I effectively
discussed the correct process of how to buy textbooks with minor errors because of an effective
introduction, clear and concise content and relevant topic. An audience can immediately tell on how
well a speech will be as soon as the introduction is completed. Evidently, my speech gave a strong

humor add libs to the speech which kept the audience s attention. Something that could have been
added to the speech, would be to add a concluding statement that wraps up the speech before my

The Role Of The British Actress And Playwright

The title of the performer, until only decades ago, was denoted by the individual s gender: the actor
being male and the actress being female (gender performing function). In recent times the function of
the performer has become the sole focus with the introduction of the term actor as a universal label for
all thespians. This essay will attempt to assess the voice and roles of the two aforementioned women
in an effort to examine the evolution of the female actor and playwright within their individual period
and the changing function of gender in performance.
The formal entrance of women on the stage in England is usually credited to the epoch of the
Restoration. Amongst the turbulence of the era spiked with civil unrest, religious upheaval, the first
regicide noted in modern history and the initial construction of the commonwealth s skeletal

Society Has Been Wrongly Judging The Behavior Of Others...
Society has been wrongly judging the behavior of others for centuries ( Dr. Sex discusses societal
conventions, BDSM ). For decades practitioners of BDSM have been judged because of the way they
choose to live their lives. When one hears or thinks of the acronym BDSM, there are stigmas that they
think of as well. By stigma, we mean that a person is recognized or labeled as having undesired
differentness from what we had anticipated (Hoff). Practitioners of BDSM have always faced these
stigmas, and because of this fact, practitioners have been forced to hide the way they live. Not only

Sex ). When people think about BDSM their thoughts are usually negative, associating BDSM purely
with pain, but the idea that all BDSM play involves pain is a common misconception: many play
activities are focused not on pain, but rather on psychological power exchange (Hebert). Usually,
stigmas are accepted by the general public, but according to Hebert, the stigmas about BDSM are
usually accepted by medical and legal professionals as well. In particular, it is commonly believed that
those who participate in BDSM must be psychologically disturbed. Because of these stigmas
associated with BDSM, people act and treat BDSM practitioners differently than those who do not
practice BDSM. In a study done by Ali Hebert and Angela Weaver, there were several benefits and
disadvantages discovered when discussing BDSM with several practitioners of BDSM. The very first

lt;Insert Response Here gt; The brain is a crucial part of the human body. Our abilities to learn,
remember things, and feel emotions are controlled by this very vital organ. Also, the spinal cord is a
crucial part of the central nervous system. The nerves that send messages to the body are located all
throughout the spinal cord. Additionally, within the brain there are three major regions. They are
called the central core, the limbic system, and the cerebral cortex, which has four hemispheres. The
four hemispheres are the occipital lobe, the temporal lobe, the parietal lobe, and the frontal lobe.
Found within the central core region of the brain are five different regions. Each region controls
different behavioral functions within the human body. These regions are called the medulla, pons,
cerebellum, thalamus, and hypothalamus.
The medulla is responsible for many vital functions, such as; the heart rate, the regulation of

What Is The Theme Of Law And Order In Lord Of The Flies
William Goldings Lord of the Flies represents the theme of Law and order throughout the novel.
During the novel the group of the boys are stuck on an island and some turn into savages. Golding
uses symbolism, characters and actions to represent law and order.
The conch was the first thing to gather all the boys on the island, for a meeting. The boys then
discussed how things should be done and they elect to vote for a chief. Him with the shell. Ralph, the
fair haired, good looking boy is voted as chief. But he isn t voted chief because of his age, leadership
skills or any form of democracy. Ralph was voted in as chief because he was the one who blew the
conch. The conch that would call the boys to sort out and discuss all the problems that they would
have over the months that the boys would spend on the island. During these meetings, the conch didn t
just call them, the conch allowed the holder to speak. To express their thoughts and ideas to all the
other boys. But as soon as fear and bloodthirst took over their minds, the conch didn t mean anything
to them and once this happened there was no way of getting them back. Soon Jack, Ralphs hunter,
turned too and decided to start his own group. Who ll join my tribe and have fun? Boy by boy, more
kids started to join Jacks tribe. Eventually the conch smashes and all breaks loose on the island. The

According to Army Doctrine Reference Publication (ADRP) 6 22, leadership is the process of
influencing people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation to accomplish the mission and
improve the organization . This essay will analyze two different leaders, William Wallace from
Braveheart and Ahmad ibn Fadlan from The 13th Warrior. After analyzing each leader, this essay will

essay will suggest how Army leaders can employ the aforementioned perceptions to motivate others to

Juveniles And The Juvenile Justice System
Juveniles committing crimes is not a new issued being introduced to society; actually, it has been an
issue for centuries. However, the big question is, should juveniles be tried in adult courts? Before
answering, take into consideration every possible scenario that could have led them to commit the
crime. For instance, were they the leader in the act? Did they participate in the crime? Was the
juvenile even aware of what was taking place? Were they peer pressured? Did they have any other
choice at the time? There are so many other questions we could consider when making a decision
here.
In addition, think about how they will be affected if tried as an adult and convicted. Let us remember,
the United States has the Juvenile Justice System, which is solely for juvenile delinquents. This is
supposed to protect them from receiving longer sentences, and harsh punishments, which is the
opposite of adult courts. Also, the Juvenile Justice System is supposed to help rehabilitate the juvenile.
Luckily, for juveniles, the court had recognized that even homicide does not warrant a mandatory life
sentence without the possibility of parole if the offender is less than 18 years old at the time of the
crime (Holt p.1395). However, in Nevada, Mississippi, and Utah, lawmakers now leave it up to the
juvenile courts to decide whether to transfer a juvenile to adult court (Brown p. 21). Unfortunately,
juveniles sent to adult prison suffer physically, mentally, and emotionally. With that

enslaved them, forcing them into hard labor and other duties within the Kingdom. This did not do
much to stop them so he then ordered that all newborn Hebrew boys should be killed which is where
Moses comes in. After being hidden in the Nile river and found by Pharaoh s daughter, he was raised

The Heroine In Doctor Johnson s Classroom
A name is a label given to distinct every person. The authors have purposely given nicknames so that
it describes each individual s character. The character of Big Brother in 1984, The Heroine in
Rebecca, and the bear in Doctor Johnson s classroom are all in contrast. Big Brother s real name
should be Joseph, Joe for short, The Heroine s name should be Lisa, and the bear in Doctor Johnson s
classroom should be Albert. George Orwell wrote 1984 with the character of Big Brother being
described as a Dictator and showing no respect or privacy for others. He can be thought of as an actual
big brother or a nosey neighbor. He should have the name Joseph, Joe for short because he seems
more of a nosey neighbor. At one point or another every person

Coubertin Hockey History
The Olympics were reinvented when Coubertin invented the International Olympic Committee in the
late 1800s. The IOC was made to modernize the games to societies standards. Coubertin had a more
inclusively cosmopolitan vision and greater organizational skills than any of his predecessors, [he]
succeeded where they had failed (Guttman,121). Originally, Coubertin chose a Greek scholar named
Demetrios Bikelas to become the first president of the IOC. He served as president for the six years
and then Coubertin took over for almost the next 30 years. Coubertin used the Olympics to introduce
new sports to the masses and to show political neutrality when countries were in conflict and/or at

Hockey became a sport that everyone could bond over. From natives, immigrants, and locals, hockey
was able to form a community s collective identity regardless of where they were from and their socio
economic status. According to Bairner, there is certainly a perceived Canadian way of playing the
game that is celebrated as being in some manner indicative of a national character rugged, honest,
utilitarian (Bariner,125). This Canadian way could have effected Canada s Olympic Performances
because they do not want to be put in the same box as their southern counterpart, the United States.
Even though the two countries are connected, Canadians pride themselves on being different from the
United States and their standards. They do not want to be categorized together and the Olympics is an
opportunity for them to distinguish themselves from Americans. As another powerful nation, the
Olympics becomes a time for Canadians to prove that they are a contender among the United States,
Russia, and China. The grit that is needed in hockey and the Canadian way, is then passed along to all
the other Canadian athletes in the games. Hockey pretty much sets the tone for all the other athletes in

Media And Psychological Analysis
The influence of the media on psychological human development is profound (PMC, 2003). Media
influences do play a vital role in shaping a person s behaviour, particularly in adolescent and young
adult years. Media affects society and can control how people interact and behave, also contributing to
what is socially and culturally accepted (raisingchildren.net.au, 2015).
The effects of media are most powerful during a person s adolescent and young adult years.
Adolescents and young people have to work through a broad range of issues in their transition from
childhood to adulthood and usually becomes a time for experimenting and partaking in risky
behaviours (Better Health Channel, 2015). A person may turn to certain media outlets, including print,
television, film and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As society changes and moves towards a more technological era, media is heavily relied upon. When a
person is insecure or vulnerable, media can be a way for people to feel connected with the world and
people around them. Children are exposed to media and technology from a very early age, particularly
with its use in schools and households. For example, a toddler watching Sesame Street can be taught
valuable lessons about racial harmony, cooperation, simple arithmetic and the use and application of
literacy, through an educational television format. The use of media continues throughout a person s
life, as society depends more and more on it for relaying information and educating (PMC, 2003).
Media is changing the way how people access and share knowledge (common sense, 2015). Cultural
and political awareness can be learned, as media can expose young people to an array of different
cultural backgrounds, ethnic groups and traditions. Family members and peers may display
stereotypes of different cultural groups, though media outlets can offer a varied display of ethnic
groups and can allow people to think critically,

Desiderius Erasmus s Accomplishments During The Renaissance
Desiderius Erasmus was an orphan from the Netherlands, forced into monastic life because of poverty;
yet, somehow, he became who most consider as one of the greatest humanists of the Renaissance. The
Renaissance was a time of rebirth starting in Italy. It is the period of time in Europe between the
Middle Ages and modern time. During the Renaissance, there was a boost in arts, science, and
intellectual activity. The Renaissance embraced humanism, an interest in human society and spread of
ideas, and one of the greatest humanists was Desiderius Erasmus. Desiderius Erasmus was important
to the Renaissance because of his theology, literature, and teachings.

Expectationships And Personal Relationships
People are relational and communicative human beings who, often, fail at being relational and
communicative with other human beings, such as their life partners. Humans enter relationships for
multitudes of reasons, but most are searching for someone to love and build a life with. However,
people have different concepts of what a life together constitutes. When people begin to build a
relationship with a partner they bring a variety of expectations into the partnership. These expectations
may apply to one, the other, or both members of the relationship and they may, or may not, be in
accordance to the expectations that the other person has brought into the relationship. Expectations
can complicate or simplify relationships; similarly, expectations can make or break relationships. My
husband and I have been together for over seven years, but married a little over one year. My husband
and I s changing relational dynamic has been evaluated through both of us taking the Household
Survey. The discussion that followed showed that we disagree about the division of household chores
and aspects of our future family, but we have similar perspectives about our finances. As shown in the
survey, Cade and I disagree about the division of various household chores, such as dishes, grocery
shopping, laundry, and cleaning the house. Before we got married both Cade and I knew that we were
not the most organized or chore focused people. When we are together we would rather enjoy the

Cirrhosis and Related Liver Disorders
Cirrhosis and Related Liver Disorders
The liver is the largest gland and second largest organ in the human body. It is also the only internal
organ capable of regeneration following injury. Located in the abdominal cavity, this reddish brown
organ is divided into lobes of different size and shape. The liver plays a critical role in metabolism,
digestion, elimination, and detoxification, among other processes. This organ performs a surprisingly
large number of functions that influence virtually all other body systems. This is why diseases of the
liver can be so devastating. One class of chronic diseases affecting the liver is cirrhosis. (Kasper,
2008) Cirrhosis is a condition in which normal liver cells are damaged and replaced by ... Show more

These cells are also responsible for the regenerative capabilities of the liver. Specialized macrophages,
called Kupffer cells, also inhabit the liver. These cells are capable of filtering bacteria and toxins from
the blood. Kupffer cell activation is also responsible for early alcohol induced liver injury. In a
cirrhotic liver these cells are replaced by scar tissue. Some of the damaged cells in the liver continue
to divide and form nodules. This restricts blood supply and greatly reduces liver function. (Kasper,
2008) The liver is essential to digestion and subsequent metabolic processes. It is a plays a large part
in the processing of carbohydrates and lipids. As carbohydrates are absorbed in the small intestine,
they are first brought to the liver via the portal vein. Depending on the needs of the body, the liver will
either store excess glucose as glycogen or breakdown glycogen to release glucose into the
bloodstream. Lipids are not soluble in water and cannot be efficiently absorbed without bile produced
by the liver. Bile emulsifies fats and allows lipase, an essential protease produced by the pancreas, to
effectively break down complex lipids for absorption. The liver also detoxifies the body by trapping
toxins that have entered through digestion, the skin, or the respiratory system. The first way that the
liver detoxifies the body is through filtering the blood. It removes viruses, bacteria, and

A basic theatre performance structure is as follows:
1. Prologue
Spoken by one or two characters before the chorus appears. The prologue usually gives the
mythological background necessary for understanding the events of the play.
2. Parodos
This is the song sung by the chorus as it first enters the orchestra and dances.
3. First Episode
This is the first of many episodes , when the characters and chorus talk.
4. First Stasimon
At the end of each episode, the other characters usually leave the stage and the chorus dances and
sings a Stasimon, or choral ode. The ode usually reflects on the things said and done in the episodes,
and puts it into some kind of larger mythological framework.
5. Exodos
The playwright determines how many Episodes and Stasimons there are in the play.
There were approximately 12 50 members in a chorus and usually only a maximum of 3 actors on
stage. The actors would alternate roles and would wear masks to identify their character. Women were
prohibited from acting; therefore men performed both roles of both genders.
The most common roles played were:

The Theory Of Organizational Change
Literature Synthesis The idea of change can alarm any system and lead to unexpected reactions from
the members associated with the system. As the change begins to be implemented, these uncertainties
intensify and can lead to crisis. This phenomenon becomes even more crucial when the system
involves an organization with leaders and those members with non managerial responsibilities. When
change is being implemented within an organization by its leaders, the consequences of it can be
underestimated or ignored by them, resulting in crises and, eventually, failure of the change efforts. In
order for change to succeed, specifically in today s business world, where organizations are constantly
undergoing change at a fast rate, companies should educate their employees in understanding and
supporting change. Taking both organizational and employee perspectives into account, Armenakis
and Bedeian (1999) have reviewed major research publications on the theory of organizational change
from 1987 to 1999. To set a basis for selecting from the vast number of the available material, their
study was concentrated on those researches focusing on the fundamentals of organizational change
dynamics. The researchers acknowledge the effect of the extent of their resource selection on the
literature review outcome, stating that their choice of subject area will provide a deeper understanding
of the existing approaches governing organizational change. In order to make their research
manageable,

The Priest Walchelin And The Hellequin s Hunt
While Phaedrus, the Bhagavad Gita, Epicurus Letters to Menoeceus, and the story of The Priest
Walchelin and the Hellequin s Hunt all offer slightly different theories on what happens after death,
they all agree that the death of the body is inevitable. However, the texts fail to give explicit
instruction on how mortals should best live their life so as to be best situated for existence after death.
Identifying how the texts instruct people to live life in a way that s meaningful despite its temporary
nature will help identify methods for benefitting humanity and thus retroactively reveal our
shortcomings. According to these texts, the only way to live a meaningful life is to focus on the
betterment of the soul. Because the soul will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Given that the soul outlives its host body, it must have somewhere to go once the body dies. The
uncertainty of where the soul goes after death is the greatest source of fear for mortals. Whether the
soul goes to a new body or to a place of divine reward or punishment, these texts reveal a change of
scenery for souls. While many would like to believe that if they follow a generally moral path they ll
be rewarded after they die, The Priest Walchelin and the Hellequin s Hunt challenges that idea. In this
story, a member of the living is shocked to see many highly regarded figures who... should have gone
straight to join the saints in heaven (Joynes 50) roaming the earth as punishment for sins of which the
public was unaware. Through this story it becomes apparent that previous modes of judging whether
one will be rewarded after death aren t reliable. This unexpected outcome is a source of terror and
apprehension for many other seemingly qualified men, such as Prince Arjuna in The Bhagavad Gita .
In the Gita, Arjuna vehemently protests killing any of his kin because hell is waiting for those whose
familiar rituals of righteousness are no more (The Bhagavad Gita 47). Prior to his moment of
weakness at the beginning of the text, Arjuna had been a heroic warrior (The Bhagavad Gita 43) and
loyal follower of Krishna, but

Growth of Human Population and Its Effect on the Environment
The growth of the human population has been strikingly apparent that the rate of growth has been

used irrigation to meet their needs. The knowledge of water and sewer conditions along with better
medical care and agriculture made life easier. Earlier man did not have these factors and the

Stereotypes In African American Films
Throughout this chapter, Korgen main arguments pertained to the media s portrayal of Black and
White biracial characters in movies. Typically the media portrays people with lighter skin to have
more positive characteristics while people with darker skin more negative characteristics. Media is
one first place young children get these images from and it can have a huge impression on them
without even knowing it. They are placed within this social class of existence. Viewers tend to pay the
most attention to characters who share their age, race, and gender and those they wish they could be
like (Korgen, 2010, pg. 89). Biracial Americans go through the toughest scrutiny by both races on
whether they fit into either group. I know my brother and sister have this issue from the time they
were little especially my sister, she is lighter skinned and was never truly accepted by the black or
white girls at school.
On the other hand, the media tends to act as if race does not matter that it is something from the past.
Our society is often portrayed as color blind, a place in which racism does not exist, and where race is
not important (Korgen, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

into the core of America s culture that they have become virtually unrecognizable. We as the

The Merchant s Tale Analysis
Love is amazing. It is difficult to find but once it is found, love can be the most amazing thing to have.
In the 1400 s it was rare to find a noble wedding that was filled with love. People that were unhappy
or uncomfortable in their relationships were more likely to have cheated on their spouse or deceive
them to get what they want. In the Merchant s Tale of Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales, an
older knight named January order s to find a very young wife. January finds a beautiful young woman
named May, who soon becomes his wife, despite her not being in love with him. May then falls in
love with one of the knight s squires, Damian. They send notes to each other and keep their love a

Chaucer also demonstrates acts similar to these in many of his other tales within this novel. In the
Miller s Tale Alison and a young male student trick her husband into believing that a flood is going to
hit, and then sneak out to be together while her husband is in hiding. The two create an elaborate plan
to fill each other s sexual needs and desires. The Wife of Bath s Prologue involves stories the Wife of
Bath s tells of her deceiving her husbands to get what she wants whether it be money, power or beauty,
she lies and bribes her husbands into doing things for her. It is also significant that Chaucer decides to
name the characters in this tale January and May . A relationship when one spouse is significantly
older than the other is called a May December relationship. It is somewhat humorous that he names
his characters these names because it foreshadows that this will be a relationship where one is
significantly older than the other. The age difference was a very significant part of this tale. The age
difference between May and January, is why May was unsatisfied, which led her to cheat on him and
then lie to January about the affair. The Merchant s Tale argues that unsatisfied women will play their
spouse to get what satisfies

Infanticide In The Woman Warrior
A horrific taboo occurs twice in the novel The Woman Warrior: Memoirs of a Girlhood Among Ghosts
by Maxine Hong Kingston, infanticide. Infanticide is the act of murdering an infant, specifically the
person s own child. When this situation occurs in the writing, there is a different significance to
Chinese culture than the other. What is the context behind this cruel act in Kingston s book about
tieing ancient Chinese tales with her own life? Both times infanticide is brought up a powerful
emotion develops in the reader, such as grief or anger. The main purpose of infanticide in the novel is
to force the reader to think what is right and wrong. The first time infanticide appears is in the first
section of the book titled No Name Woman. Kingston s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The section titled Shamen is about Brave Orchid s journey to become a midwife and her very different
life in China. She once mentioned to Kingston the story of one particular baby that was born with
something missing, One child born without an anus was left in the outhouse so that the family would
not have to hear it cry (101). This is a case of infanticide that could not be stopped. A baby born
without an anus, especially in the 1930s, generally has no hope of surviving. The parents left it in the
outhouse so they would not have to hear it crying and suffering. Nonetheless, it is said that the baby
lasted a long time, breathing as if it was trying to defecate for almost a week. While this infant was
doomed from the second it was born, it fought to survive and lasted much longer than what the family
and Brave Orchid expected. The substance behind this infanticide is to demonstrate that even the ill
fated are still able to fight for survival. The baby beat the odds of living only a day, much like how
females in China, such as the warrior Mu Lan can prove that they can do more than cook and clean.
Although, maybe the parents should have tried to help the infant instead of leave it outside and soothe
it through it s

The Is Not The Case With Neil Gaiman
Fiction, as a genre, is a tricky form of prose. It is made out of imaginary characters and situations.
Often these are very disconnected from reality that the readers are almost always aware that they are
reading a book. That however is not the case with Neil Gaiman. His characters and situations are
always tied back to the reality we live in. As outrageous as events get in his worlds there s always an
element of reality, a real world problem that sucks the reader in. Even if he s talking of ancient gods or

balancing element such as the ancient gods who enjoy a couple games of checkers or a protagonist

The mirror , Foucault writes, functions as a heterotopia in this respect: it makes this place that I
occupy at the moment when I look at myself in the glass at once absolutely real, connected with all the
space that surrounds it, and absolutely unreal, since in order to be perceived it has to pass through this
virtual point which is over there (Of Other Spaces, 4). Gaiman s worlds do exactly that, the reader can
perceive this entire new world as real as the one he lives in but the quirky elements would suggest
otherwise because they are in fact within the borders of virtual. However, that which is virtual does
not mean it is completely out of reality as Foucault s description of heterotopia suggests. The
mirroring element to Gaiman s work shows that they cannot be qualified either as utopias but
dystopias, they are mere reflections of mundane reality. In one of his lectures We writers [...] have an
obligation to our readers , Gaiman says, it s the obligation to write true things, especially important
when we are creating tales of people who do not exist in places that never were to understand that
truth is not in what happens but what it tells us about who we are. Fiction is the lie that tells the truth,
after all (Why our future depends on libraries). Even by this it is possible to say that while writing
Gaiman has a clear vision and a means to mirror reality in his

  • 2. Erruptions at Old Faithful Geyser ERRUPTIONS OF THE OLD FAITHFUL GEYSER 1.0 Literature Review A geyser refers to a hot spring that occasionally due geographical processes and difference in pressure erupts hot water and steam in the air. The Old Faithful Geyser at Yellowstone National Park , Wyoming is one of the most famous geyser in the world. Given the fame of this geyser, it receives visitors from various parts of the world. For convenience of time, the national park service have erected some sign at the site to try help visitors predict the time for the occurrence of the next eruption. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The interval for the next eruption is based on the total duration of the current eruption. 1.2 Research Question From previous studies there are misguided interpretations on the eruption duration and how it affects the waiting time. From mere observations we can conclude that Old Faithful has a pattern which follows a fixed set of time. The research questions that arises is; Does the eruption and waiting time of the Old Faithful geyser follow a fixed set of time or is there a variation in the waiting time with respect to the eruption time? 1.3 Research Methodology Data collection and sources; the data used in this study comes from Azzalin and Bowman(1990). It includes a data frame with 272 observations on 2 variables that is eruption time and waiting time. The data is heavily rounded times originally in seconds. Of the variables the waiting time has been used as the response variable while eruption time appears as the predictor variable. These means that waiting time is seen to be determined by the time an eruption takes. So we expect that the longer the eruption period, the longer the waiting period. This paper wishes to study the test that, under the null hypothesis, there is no variation in the waiting time. theassumptions under this hypothesis is that the interval time between one eruption to the next is fixed and do not occur by chance. • 3. What Links Disciplines Of Literature, Philosophy And... What links the disciplines of literature, philosophy and mathematics? The answer is, quite simply, fiction. Fiction has probably existed since the human brain was capable of imagination, either for distraction or for the more functional purpose of envisioning hunt scenarios when our nomadic ancestors would need to survive. Fiction can be defined as a literary tool that fools readers or theatre goers into thinking that the author possesses certain knowledge about the world (Plato et al., 1963) but is usually understood as a world or scenario that is created by human imagination. However, that doesn t necessarily make it untrue, as fiction can be based on reality and can become a useful mechanism to convey important messages and help shape ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Numbers and equations simply to not concretely exist in our world. Maths is, after all, like any written language, glorified scribbling that somehow resonates with meaning in our minds. Take as an example 4 = 2 + 2 . This string of symbols translates itself into what we understand is an equation: the two sides of the = sign are the same. However, neither 4 not 2 + 2 exist. They are not visually identical. Yet somehow we accept that connecting them with the = symbol indicates that their numerical value is equivalent. Like fiction, maths merely requires us to suspend our disbelief long enough for us to understand whatever story or message the author is trying to impart. This philosophical position is called Mathematical Fictionalism. Its proponents believe that mathematics are purely fictional but are still functional as long as its purpose is not meant to be a mirror of reality (Leng, 2016). However, this position calls into question the validity of mathematics. Fiction, if assumed completely truthful, becomes a lie. So if mathematics are purely a human made language created to describe phenomena that cannot be described in another language, how can we ascertain its precision and how much power should we give it in a discussion? Mathematical entities do not exist concretely, yet we give them characteristics and magnitudes that allow them to be ranked, ordered and even to interact amongst ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The United Kingdom Of England And Northern Ireland Arguments by the UK: The United Kingdom of England and Northern Ireland believes that Ecuador has no legal right or basis to grant political or diplomatic asylum to Assange for various legal reasons that the Court is set to debate. First, the United Kingdom s involvement in the topic comes from their obligation to extradite Julian Assange to Sweden under Article 35, Clause 3 of the Extradition Act of 2003. Since Sweden has filed for an EAW that has been approved by the UK, the UK is under a formal legal obligation to extradite Assange to Sweden. An EAW is a legal document that obligates European members to surrender persons who have committed or are suspected of committing crimes in EU territories.15 The United Kingdom counter argues Ecuador s claim that Assange is a political refugee who has been granted political asylum on the grounds that he is escaping persecution due to his political beliefs. They see no relevance of Assange s political actions or views to this case as the primary purpose of his extradition is due to allegations of sexual assault that have supposedly occurred in Sweden. Due to sexual assault being a crime that has no known relation to his political views, the UK claims that Assange does not fit the criteria listed within Article 1 of the United Nations Convention and Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees. Therefore, Assange s status as a political refugee is unfounded in the opinion of the UK. On the topic of his potential extradition to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The lifestyle of a student athlete is quite different though. A student athlete must attend practice for 10 to 20 hours per week, travel to games on most weekends during the season, and at the same time, keep up with an academic workload comparable to that of a student without commitment to athletics. But unlike ordinary students without athletics, student athletes must also many times care for families and spouses. Actually, approximately 24% of student athletes are married, and of that 24%, about 62% have children. Of the students without their own spouses or children, many must care for parents and siblings. The rules and regulations regarding the student athlete are set forth by the NCAA, which serves as the governing body over college athletics. Most college athletes are not wealthy and among the many rules imposed for these privileged individuals, they are not permitted to carry jobs, receive money, rewards, or any type of kickbacks from any sources other than family. • 7. Evaluating An Informative Speech In an informative speech, the quintessential aspect that can make or break your speech is the audience. If the audience is a group of 12 year olds, then giving a speech on how to retire at 65 is not going to draw a positive response. Knowing certain demographics about the audience, including age, gender, race and many others should determine the topic of your speech. Accordingly, the relevancy of my speech played a pivotal role in its effectiveness because of how relatable an issue it was to my audience. Also, sharing the same demographic with the audience gave the speech a more familiar tone, than the normal speech given by someone who is older. In my informative speech, I effectively discussed the correct process of how to buy textbooks with minor errors because of an effective introduction, clear and concise content and relevant topic. This essay will attempt to assess the voice and roles of the two aforementioned women in an effort to examine the evolution of the female actor and playwright within their individual period and the changing function of gender in performance. Amongst the turbulence of the era spiked with civil unrest, religious upheaval, the first regicide noted in modern history and the initial construction of the commonwealth s skeletal democratic foundations, the Restoration primarily bore witness to a dramatic cultural revolution. For decades practitioners of BDSM have been judged because of the way they choose to live their lives. When one hears or thinks of the acronym BDSM, there are stigmas that they think of as well. By stigma, we mean that a person is recognized or labeled as having undesired differentness from what we had anticipated (Hoff). Practitioners of BDSM have always faced these stigmas, and because of this fact, practitioners have been forced to hide the way they live. When people think about BDSM their thoughts are usually negative, associating BDSM purely with pain, but the idea that all BDSM play involves pain is a common misconception: many play activities are focused not on pain, but rather on psychological power exchange (Hebert). Usually, stigmas are accepted by the general public, but according to Hebert, the stigmas about BDSM are usually accepted by medical and legal professionals as well. In particular, it is commonly believed that those who participate in BDSM must be psychologically disturbed. • 20. Juveniles And The Juvenile Justice System Juveniles committing crimes is not a new issued being introduced to society; actually, it has been an issue for centuries. However, the big question is, should juveniles be tried in adult courts? Before answering, take into consideration every possible scenario that could have led them to commit the crime. For instance, were they the leader in the act? Did they participate in the crime? Was the juvenile even aware of what was taking place? Were they peer pressured? Did they have any other choice at the time? There are so many other questions we could consider when making a decision here. In addition, think about how they will be affected if tried as an adult and convicted. Let us remember, the United States has the Juvenile Justice System, which is solely for juvenile delinquents. This is supposed to protect them from receiving longer sentences, and harsh punishments, which is the opposite of adult courts. Also, the Juvenile Justice System is supposed to help rehabilitate the juvenile. Luckily, for juveniles, the court had recognized that even homicide does not warrant a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole if the offender is less than 18 years old at the time of the crime (Holt p.1395). However, in Nevada, Mississippi, and Utah, lawmakers now leave it up to the juvenile courts to decide whether to transfer a juvenile to adult court (Brown p. 21). • 29. The Theory Of Organizational Change Literature Synthesis The idea of change can alarm any system and lead to unexpected reactions from the members associated with the system. As the change begins to be implemented, these uncertainties intensify and can lead to crisis. This phenomenon becomes even more crucial when the system involves an organization with leaders and those members with non managerial responsibilities. When change is being implemented within an organization by its leaders, the consequences of it can be underestimated or ignored by them, resulting in crises and, eventually, failure of the change efforts. In order for change to succeed, specifically in today s business world, where organizations are constantly undergoing change at a fast rate, companies should educate their employees in understanding and supporting change. • 32. Stereotypes In African American Films Throughout this chapter, Korgen main arguments pertained to the media s portrayal of Black and White biracial characters in movies. Typically the media portrays people with lighter skin to have more positive characteristics while people with darker skin more negative characteristics. Media is one first place young children get these images from and it can have a huge impression on them without even knowing it. They are placed within this social class of existence. Viewers tend to pay the most attention to characters who share their age, race, and gender and those they wish they could be like (Korgen, 2010, pg. 89). Biracial Americans go through the toughest scrutiny by both races on whether they fit into either group. I know my brother and sister have this issue from the time they were little especially my sister, she is lighter skinned and was never truly accepted by the black or white girls at school. On the other hand, the media tends to act as if race does not matter that it is something from the past. Our society is often portrayed as color blind, a place in which racism does not exist, and where race is not important (Korgen, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It s no secret that since the beginning of America s history, media has played a huge role in how we perceive people, especially in Hollywood. For instance, the majority of box office hits over the last century have featured all white casts. Yet the ones predominantly featuring African Americans, rarely become a box office success. I believe that racism and white supremacy in the media are so entangled into the core of America s culture that they have become virtually unrecognizable. We as the consumers don t even realize that having these images constantly being thrown at us is hurting people. The fact that since the Civil Rights Act over 50 years ago we are still fighting for equality, says a lot about just how far we still have to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Merchant s Tale Analysis Love is amazing. It is difficult to find but once it is found, love can be the most amazing thing to have. In the 1400 s it was rare to find a noble wedding that was filled with love. People that were unhappy or uncomfortable in their relationships were more likely to have cheated on their spouse or deceive them to get what they want. In the Merchant s Tale of Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales, an older knight named January order s to find a very young wife. January finds a beautiful young woman named May, who soon becomes his wife, despite her not being in love with him. May then falls in love with one of the knight s squires, Damian. Chaucer also demonstrates acts similar to these in many of his other tales within this novel. In the Miller s Tale Alison and a young male student trick her husband into believing that a flood is going to hit, and then sneak out to be together while her husband is in hiding. The two create an elaborate plan to fill each other s sexual needs and desires. The Wife of Bath s Prologue involves stories the Wife of Bath s tells of her deceiving her husbands to get what she wants whether it be money, power or beauty, she lies and bribes her husbands into doing things for her. It is also significant that Chaucer decides to name the characters in this tale January and May . A relationship when one spouse is significantly older than the other is called a May December relationship. It is somewhat humorous that he names his characters these names because it foreshadows that this will be a relationship where one is significantly older than the other. The age difference was a very significant part of this tale. The age difference between May and January, is why May was unsatisfied, which led her to cheat on him and then lie to January about the affair. The Merchant s Tale argues that unsatisfied women will play their spouse to get what satisfies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Infanticide In The Woman Warrior A horrific taboo occurs twice in the novel The Woman Warrior: Memoirs of a Girlhood Among Ghosts by Maxine Hong Kingston, infanticide. Infanticide is the act of murdering an infant, specifically the person s own child. When this situation occurs in the writing, there is a different significance to Chinese culture than the other. What is the context behind this cruel act in Kingston s book about tieing ancient Chinese tales with her own life? Both times infanticide is brought up a powerful emotion develops in the reader, such as grief or anger. The main purpose of infanticide in the novel is to force the reader to think what is right and wrong. The first time infanticide appears is in the first section of the book titled No Name Woman. Kingston s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The section titled Shamen is about Brave Orchid s journey to become a midwife and her very different life in China. She once mentioned to Kingston the story of one particular baby that was born with something missing, One child born without an anus was left in the outhouse so that the family would not have to hear it cry (101). This is a case of infanticide that could not be stopped. A baby born without an anus, especially in the 1930s, generally has no hope of surviving. The parents left it in the outhouse so they would not have to hear it crying and suffering. Nonetheless, it is said that the baby lasted a long time, breathing as if it was trying to defecate for almost a week. While this infant was doomed from the second it was born, it fought to survive and lasted much longer than what the family and Brave Orchid expected. The substance behind this infanticide is to demonstrate that even the ill fated are still able to fight for survival. The baby beat the odds of living only a day, much like how females in China, such as the warrior Mu Lan can prove that they can do more than cook and clean. Although, maybe the parents should have tried to help the infant instead of leave it outside and soothe it through it s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Is Not The Case With Neil Gaiman Fiction, as a genre, is a tricky form of prose. It is made out of imaginary characters and situations. Often these are very disconnected from reality that the readers are almost always aware that they are reading a book. That however is not the case with Neil Gaiman. His characters and situations are always tied back to the reality we live in. As outrageous as events get in his worlds there s always an element of reality, a real world problem that sucks the reader in. Even if he s talking of ancient gods or a fictional London where rats can talk and fox like creatures have a taste for fine china, there s a balancing element such as the ancient gods who enjoy a couple games of checkers or a protagonist who is about to marry a woman who he ... The mirror , Foucault writes, functions as a heterotopia in this respect: it makes this place that I occupy at the moment when I look at myself in the glass at once absolutely real, connected with all the space that surrounds it, and absolutely unreal, since in order to be perceived it has to pass through this virtual point which is over there (Of Other Spaces, 4). Gaiman s worlds do exactly that, the reader can perceive this entire new world as real as the one he lives in but the quirky elements would suggest otherwise because they are in fact within the borders of virtual. However, that which is virtual does not mean it is completely out of reality as Foucault s description of heterotopia suggests. The mirroring element to Gaiman s work shows that they cannot be qualified either as utopias but dystopias, they are mere reflections of mundane reality. In one of his lectures We writers [...] have an obligation to our readers , Gaiman says, it s the obligation to write true things, especially important when we are creating tales of people who do not exist in places that never were to understand that truth is not in what happens but what it tells us about who we are. Fiction is the lie that tells the truth, after all (Why our future depends on libraries). Even by this it is possible to say that while writing Gaiman has a clear vision and a means to mirror reality in his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
