Pride And Prejudice Music Analysis
Pride Prejudice, the quintessential classic that has inspired countless iterations, returned to film in
2005 with fresh faces Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen as protagonists Elizabeth Bennet and
Mr. Darcy. Its widely lauded soundtrack, composed by Dario Marianelli, was nominated for an Oscar
in the Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures category for Original Score, among
other awards. If Marianelli and director Joe Wright s objective was to evoke music of the time period,
they seem to have done just that. The Classical style matches the feel of Jane Austen novels and the
era in which Pride Prejudice was written. The romantic relationship between Lizzie and Mr. Darcy is
also enhanced by the music. This paper demonstrates that the soundtrack parallels the development of
Lizzie and her feelings for Mr. Darcy. Lizzie s theme is a recurring element that plots their relationship
from introduction to inevitably happy end. Further, the theme of Darcy s Letter , present in a number
of scenes, helps to depict when Lizzie begins to feel differently about Mr. Darcy. The diegetic playing
of Lizzie s theme also offers an interesting look into the social classes of the time and how they
affected relationships. The most frequently occurring music in Pride Prejudice is Lizzie s theme.
During the opening sequence, a bright morning is shown as birds chirp. Soft piano is heard pulsing
and Lizzie walks on screen reading a book. The tempo hastens slightly as Lizzie

Khrushchev Missiles Essay
Q: How far do these sources provide convincing evidence that Khrushchev put missiles into Cuba to
defend the country from the U.S? Use the sources provided to backup your answer. (12 marks)
It is clear the majority of these sources indeed provide convincing evidence that Khrushchev s
principal intention (concerning the implementation of nuclear missiles into Cuba) was to protect the
country from the imminent threat of the U.S. However, this is not an unanimous statement as Source B
G will show.
The first suggestion that the chief reason for placing these missiles into Cuba was to defend the
country comes in Source C, where Khrushchev states that Cuba were known to be very vulnerable to
their enemies, and that especially right now he saw the U.S as a continual threat to the Communist
country. Most importantly, he claimed the U.S would not leave Cuba alone unless the Soviets
interfered. The suggestion that the U.S were threatening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This letter spread to the public would present Khrushchev in a very gracious light, as it is apparent his
sole aim is to prevent the invasion Cuba by the U.S. In this letter we can see no mention of the U.S
intent to abuse Cuba to spread the word of Communism, nor use it to threaten the U.S due to it s
proximity.
A final source displaying the altruist intentions of the U.S.S.R in Cuba is Source F, where Khrushchev
yet again states that their purpose in Cuba was to help people develop and of course, how could Cuba
continue develop under the vehement pressure of the U.S? Khrushchev suggests here the missiles
were solely placed where they were to prevent the invasion of Cuba by the U.S so the U.S.S.R could
help the country continue to develop .
However some sources (namely B G), do not concur with the above statement and in fact highlight the
selfish manner of the

Dances With Wolves Essay
Dances With Wolves
No matter how you choose to categorize human beings, whether by race or religion, nationality or
gender, the resultant categories will display at least one immutable constant. Each group, no matter
how diverse their beliefs or how dissimilar their behaviors, will contain men of honest and peaceful
natures as well as men of divisive and violent natures. In the film Dances With Wolves, we are
exposed to two distinct categories of people inhabiting post civil war America, the white man and the
Native American. We, most likely, begin the movie with defined ideas as to which group contains
honest, peaceful men and which group contains violent and savage men. We are, however, exposed to
behaviors which are in opposition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, compassionate, thinking white men are definitely in the minority in this film.
When John begins his Westward move, the crude, maniacal white man makes his reappearance. The
officer who gives John the information about getting to his new post appears to be downright insane
and apparently kills himself. The guide who accompanies John to his post is also no prize. John refers
to him as the foulest man alive (Dances with Wolves). This constant exposure to the violent and crude
men who make up the white race is an effective first step in shifting our sympathies. We want to
distance ourselves from these shameful characters. We don t want to identify with them.
Our first exposure to Indians is a mere suggestion of the expected stereotype. We are shown a skeleton
on the ground with an arrow stuck through it. So far so good. We are accustomed to that image.
Dunbar s guide states that Indians are nothin but thieves and beggars and that you only want to see
them when they are dead (Dances with Wolves). He, of course, is such an exemplary man that it s not
ironic at all to hear him degrading someone else.
From the beginning of the film we are given hints that Dunbar is not like his fellow ugly Americans.
When John and his guide arrive at the deserted Fort, the guide is in a hurry to be away. He is nervous
and uncomfortable and thinks nothing of leaving without accomplishing what he was sent to do.

The Effects Of Special Needs On Children
Special needs kids are not sick or gross. They only want to be accepted. They want to feel normal.
They cannot help the way they were born. People who have never dealt with special needs children do
not see what they go through on a daily basis. One out of every 10 children under the age of 14 has
some type of special need. Which includes any medical disability, chronic or life threatening illness.
The children and parents both deal with emotional battles. The parents are more tired, emotionally and
physically than a parent without a special need kid. They feel alone, because raising a special needs
kid is very challenging and takes a lot more effort. They are scared because they do not know what the
future holds. Organizations like CEIP give kids and parents more hope. They give them something
positive to look forward to. The Cumberland Early Invention Program is a very supportive program. It
is good to know there are still non profit companies out there that are genuinely non profit . The
company has served more than 1000 children and their families. There are some moments when the
company deals with 40 60 families. Some companies/programs claim to be non profit but they still
have their hand in the cookie jar. The Cumberland Early Invention Program is actually for people that
need help and not for themselves. The Cumberland Early Invention program current donors and

Analysis Of The Shining
Formal Analysis of The Shining In his exemplary horror film, The Shining, Stanley Kubrick uses
various components of editing and sound to create unique and terrifying scenes. Kubrick relies on
editing and sound design to aid the horrifying and creepy feel that was made in the in the movie. All
throughout the movie, the unique sound design and strong editing techniques create many diverse
effects on the viewer, however the most evident effect created a sense of fear and suspense. One scene
specifically emerges as a skillfully edited part in the movie. In this scene, Wendy and Danny Torrance
leave the hotel to walk through the hedge maze. Wendy and Danny both wandered around inside the
massive maze. The scene then cuts to a shot of Jack walking up to a model of the maze that is in the
lobby. The scene then cuts to a close up of the model of the maze. Tiny versions of Wendy and Danny
are shown walking through the maze. The Jack and the viewer can hear Wendy and Danny talking
even though he is not with them. This helps the allusion that Jack is viewing them experience the
maze. As the scene proceeds, it cuts to clips of Wendy and Danny walking in the actual maze. The
maze scene is a case of parallel editing. Using parallel editing in the scene, the viewer accept that
Wendy and Danny are experiencing the maze while Jack is watching the through the model of the
maze. This leads the viewer to trust that Jack is viewing over the two experience the maze, alongside
the sounds of the

The Bus Lane At Lion s Park Train Station
The number nine bus, packed full of students eager to get home, pulled into the bus lane at Lion s Park
train station. Halfway there, I thought, happy to be done with another stressful day of classes. After
most of the other passengers disembark to board the train, those of us which stay on the bus each have
our own seats.
The bus driver steps off the bus, as he does each day, to smoke a cigarette. Each day I contemplate
how the complex interplay of individuals can become simple routine, reduced to the same exhausted
ride to school every morning, matched to the seemingly endless ride home every afternoon. I wouldn t
be able to cope with the chaos that some people enjoy, I prefer my simple, reliable routines.
Nevertheless, every day I contemplate the paths each of the passengers had to follow for this scene to
play out as it does each day. The path that inevitably leads to me sitting on the bus and watching the
driver smoke his cigarette at the same time, in the same place, five out of seven days a week.
I look up to another familiar scene playing out beyond the Plexiglas windows of the bus: a group of
homeless men passing their days exposed to the elements. Some are splayed out across the lawns of an
adjacent office building, others are digging in the cracks of the pavement for cigarette butts. Nothing
special, the same group of men stand in the same places doing the same things every day.
I sit and watch the men and wonder why they are always here. Why do they always

Endothelial Inos Research Paper
Nitric oxide (NO) is an important cellular signaling molecule that participates in diverse physiological
functions in mammals, including vasodilation, smooth muscle relaxation, neurotransmission, and the
immune response. NO, a free radical, is produced by a family of enzymes called nitric oxide synthases
(NOS) by the oxidation of L arginine to L citrulline. There are three isoforms of NOS. Two of them,
neuronal NOS (nNOS) and endothelial NOS (eNOS), are constitutively expressed, while the third one
is inducible and is thus termed iNOS. nNOS is primarily found in the nervous system and is necessary
for neuronal signaling, while eNOS is localized to the endothelium and is essential for vasodilation
and control of blood pressure (5). These two isoforms produce nanomolar amounts of NO for short
periods of time (seconds to minutes) in a calcium/calmodulin (CaM) dependent manner (1, 91, 189).
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Upon induction, iNOS generates significant amounts of NO (micromolar range) and lasting until the
enzyme is degraded, sometimes for hours (80). The considerable amount of NO produced helps to
defend against invading pathogens and is thus critical for the inflammatory response and the innate
immune system. Inappropriately high NO concentrations from overexpression or dysregulation of
iNOS, on the other hand, can result in toxic effects and is associated with a variety of human diseases,
including septic shock, cardiac dysfunction, pain, diabetes, and cancers (161). The dual activity of
iNOS related NO (helpful vs. harmful) is highly concentration dependent. Therefore, regulation of its
production is important for both maintaining its proper physiological functions and controlling its
deleterious

Deviant Behavior Analysis
One current even from the news that I am going to discuss regarding deviant behavior is last week s
shooting of the news crew in Roanoke, Virginia. I chose this for several different reasons. This
happened close to where I live, my husband was one of many Special Agents who responded to this,
and it is something that I am sure most of you all have heard about. When talking about these deviant
acts, shooting and killing two people and then himself, I feel that one theory that explains this
behavior is the extension of the structural and anomie theory, which is known as strain theories. To be
more precise, I feel that this behavior is both the second and third type of strain. The second strain
according to Franzese (2009, p. 43), occurs

The Cost of Prohibiting an Individual from Pursuing Their...
Every individual has the right to their own good life, how they go about find and/or making it is up to
them. However, there are certain individuals who feel the need to dictate the path that others choose to
take. Like all actions, there are equal and opposite reactions, in this case, a consequence. As seen in
Sophocles Antigone and Harold Brighthouse s Hobson s Choice, the consequence that Kreon and
Henry face for prohibiting individuals pursuit of the good life is isolation from loved ones. Sophocles
character Kreon faces the ultimate price of isolation for interfering in the pursuit of Antigone s good
life as depicted in the play Antigone. Antigone s view of building the good life was to honor the Gods
and what they wished upon the people. When Antigone s two brothers die Kreon declares a
proclamation, not to honor him [Polynices] with funeral rites or wail for him ( Sophocles, line 203
204), this went against the views of the Gods. Antigone would rather go against Kreon s word and
please the Gods by preforming the burial rites for her brother, in pursuit of her own good life.
However, Kreon does not let this act of disobedience slide, he sends her to a cave to leave her there
alone, deserted, whether she desires to die or to love entombed (lines 887 888). This act of prohibiting
Antigone from living her good life cost Kreon the price of the loved ones around him. After Antigone
was locked away, she was found hanging by her neck (line 1221), she kills herself.

Cricket As A Bat And Ball Game
Cricket is one of the exciting sport in the world s. It is played by most countries in the world. Cricket
is not that popular in the United States compared to the countries like India, England, Australia and
many more. Cricket was discovered in Southern England before the 16th century. Cricket is a bat and
ball game (similar to Baseball) played between two teams of eleven players each on a field. At the
center of which is a rectangular twenty two yard long pitch. The game is played by millions of players
around the world, making it the world second most popular sport. Each team takes it turns to bat,
attempting to score runs, while the other team fields. There is no green or red card foul in cricket like
soccer. There are three types of player in cricket, they are called Batsmen, Bowler and All rounder.
Batsmen are the batter who bat very well, but are not good at bowling. Bowler are the pitcher (in term
of baseball) who bowl well but cannot bats well. All rounder is the players who are good at both bat
and bowl.
My favorite team in cricket is India because I been supporting for 18 years and also I was born in
India. My favorite player is MS Dhoni (Captain of India team). Sometimes it s very difficult to watch
the matches of India because of timing. I would not sleep at night when India is playing against some
other team. I will try to watch the whole game and especially when MS Dhoni is batting I would only
concentrate on seeing him how he bat because I like his style and

1. What did Jack Ma do that was so different from other company leaders? In what ways is he a

In my opinion, the different thing that Jack Ma have done difference from other company leader is
Jack Ma is a risk taken person. It is because Jack Ma is dared to challenge status quo that have
supported by many years of conventional wisdom about business and competition in the digital age.
Jack Ma also dared to decision to open on the New York Stock Exchange although he failed to reach a

risk taken person that we cannot see from other company leader although other company leader also is
a risk taker but not alike Jack Ma. Besides that, Jack Ma also is a insist a person. Why I said that, this
is because from the case study, we know that no matter how people criticism Jack Ma, he also do what
he can do and done what he can done. For example, analysts and television personalities have heaped
scorn on Ma because he remarked that shareholders are his third concern, after the major owners and

Digital Mammography
When mammography first took hold in the medical field, analog mammography was the gold standard
for breast cancer detection. Digital mammography is now replacing the old analog mammography
units. There are many concepts digital mammography has implemented into their new unit that came
from analog mammography. The most basic concept is, x rays pass through the breast. The breast
tissue attenuates the x ray photons in different degrees, which shows us different structures inside the
breast. Cancer is demonstrated by being whiter than granular tissue, but detecting cancer varies among
analog and digital. This is where digital mammography starts to become different than analog. Digital
mammography didn t sell quick when the first data came out. The first results showed that there wasn
t much difference between analog or digital. From 2001 to 2004, the ACRIN/DMIST conducted a
study that proved digital mammography to be better than analog in ... Show more content on

Digital mammography is 1.5 to 4 times more expensive than analog mammography. Even with the
prior improvements and studies conducted on digital mammography, hospitals are still hesitate to
spend the money. For the digital mammography unit to pay for itself, a facility needs to perform
15,000 to 25,000 mammograms a year; and that is a hard goal to meet for rural hospitals. With the
rural hospitals not being able to afford digital mammography units, most hospitals have to consolidate
or give up mammography. This is the main reason analog is still thriving. Analog mammography still
has some advantages over digital mammography. It is cost effective, radiologists are familiar with
interpreting these images, and high luminance view boxes improve the visualization of dense
grandular tissue. The best advantage analog mammography has is the spatial resolution. With 20 to 22
lp/mm for analog versus the digital 8 to 10 lp/mm, the image is much sharper to visualize

How Is Aerial Portrayed In The Little Mermaid
The Little Mermaid is a fairy tale that was written by Hans Christian Andersen in 1836 and then
remade by Disney in 1989, which turned out to be a popular animated film targeted for young,
juvenile children, specifically girls. The Little Mermaid is about a fifteen year old mermaid, named
Aerial, who was willing to give up her family, voice and tail to win over a man, Prince Eric. Watching
The Little Mermaid as a kid, I loved the movie. I never seen any negatives until watching it again as
an adult. It characterizes how women are viewed in today s society. In The Little Mermaid, Aerial is
characterized for her appearance and beautiful singing voice. Throughout the film, we learn that Aerial
changes her appearance against her father s wishes all for the marriage of a man. Aerial gave up her
voice and her mermaid tail to the sea witch, Ursula, for a man that she fell in love with. The Little
Mermaid is about doing whatever it takes to make dreams come true for girls but shows it negatively
because Aerial alters her body to please a man. The princess stories in the folk fairy tales are full of
symbolism and portray a gritty, harsh world to reinforce the cautionary aspects of the tales being told.
The Disney version of the Princess story shies away from cautionary story elements and centers on the
dreams and ideals. (Bethmann 7) With the audience and popularity targeted by children, The Little
Mermaid teaches ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Army of World War II, participated in two battles which earned him respect and awards. The first, his
efforts in taking Yellow Beach of southern France, earned him the Distinguished Service Cross. The
second, in a battle outside of Holtzwihr, France, earned him the Medal of Honor. Not only are these
events well documented for official records, they appear in his autobiography To Hell and Back,

This account, so far, squares with an account by Staff Sergeant Norman Hollen, also of Company B.
Not mentioned in Hollen s account was Murphy s killing of two Germans who he stumbled across
before finding the light machine gun, a fact which both Smith s and Graham s accounts mention .
The accounts do seem to differ in that Murphy describes machine gun fire being responsible for
Tipton s death while Hollen suggests it was a sniper . Graham supports Murphy s assertion of machine
gun fire being the cause of Tipton s death, as he places the blame not on a sniper in the house, but on
the machine gun nest which Murphy storms . Meanwhile, David Smith, writer of The Price of Valor,
sides with Hollen, claiming a single sniper shot was responsible for Tipton s death. Two schools of
thought appeared in the literature about what occurred and there seems no way of reconciling them.
However, Smith claims that Murphy said that it was a sniper, not a machine gun, contradicting the
narrative of To Hell and Back.
Murphy s and Graham s accounts seem to show that he did not use his carbine, while Hollen and
Smith both claim that Murphy killed the two Germans who had approached with the flag of surrender
with his carbine. Murphy, Smith, and Graham all agree that Murphy carried a German machine gun
which he had captured like a BAR and fired it from the hip as he proceeded up the hill. This detail
wasn t mentioned by Hollen, who

order to take part in college and achieve my goal of being an architect. However, I can tell that my
abilities of getting work done and learn new things quickly will lead me to graduating high school
with a 4.0 grade point average and attending Stanford college which will let me access my dream job

The skills I need to achieve my goals are; getting my work done fast and learning new things quickly.
If I get my work done fast it will help me achieve my high school goals of getting good grades, joining
sports teams and socially interacting with others and here s why. First of all, getting my work done
fast can result in having a lot of extra free time to do things like hanging out with friends and doing

the years go by since his rejection by Fermina, he finds himself in a web of love affairs with women

finally be with Fermina, he never marries or has children. The scars of losing his first and only love
makes it impossible for Florentino to ever settle down, get married, have a family, or even a stable job.
In comparison, David Lambert, the main character of the novel A Scientific Romance , also fails to
progress in life after the loss of his true love. David s life seems to deteriorate when he loses his lover
Anita. He later spends years searching for her around the globe. It becomes clear that David has never

of both Florentino and David s only true loves prevent them from developing as individuals.

experience as an English teacher provides some ideas to frame my discussion of assessment. Although
many teachers think that the scores of the exams and the tests are objective and cannot be wrong, I
think that these scores are uncertain they need to be supplemented by some other assessments.
Traditional assessments in their summative and formative forms such as tests, quizzes or exams are

A series of self assessments could lead the learners to monitoring progress towards specific learning
objectives.
In learner centered curricula, learners should be encouraged to be active participants in the assessing
process rather than only being the passive test takers. Despite the fact that some teachers may be
reluctant to transfer the responsibility of assessment to their learners, but proponents of this trend
argue that there is much to be gained from it, and that the students are capable of evaluating
themselves if they are given the adequate and necessary guidance. However, self assessment is another
method of creating interactive learning atmosphere, where the students focus on applying their
knowledge.
Moreover, recent research refers to the self assessment as an increasingly important factor of teaching
English language or any second language. According to Ian Tudor, assessment is integral to the
teaching learning process, and can be as learner centered and motivation based as any other form of
learning . Previous research was done to emphasize the positive outcomes and the objectives of the
self assessment which can be used to encourage the learners to reflect on their learning and be aware
of strengths, weaknesses and further needs. It also inspires them to set goals on the basis of their
evaluations. The procedure of checking their learning and progress through the self assessment may
help the students to develop their learning

The Battle of Vimy Ridge and Its effect on Canada
Contrary to what any believe, the Battle of Vimy Ridge was more than another bloodshed to Canada
as a nation. This battle confirmed Canada s eligibility to participate on the world stage and that they
are not to be trifled with by other nations. The accomplishments of the Canadian army brought respect
from other countries to Canada. The Canadian army gained confidence in themselves after the victory
at the battle Vimy Ridge The Battle of Vimy Ridge was significant to the growth of Canada as a
nation.

This offering of France to Canada is a sign of respect as France is willingly giving land to Canada to
thank them for the vitory they brought. As a result of this, Canada would respected by other nations
when they realize how large of a task Canada attempted and conquered during its first war. Finally,
France spent tons of money on creating a memorial monument for Canada on the land they ceded.
After ceding the land France also spent 11 years and $1,500,000 on a limestone monument as a
poignant reminder of the sixty thousand Canadians who died serving their country during World War
I. By spending the money and time to create a monument for Canada shows that France has a great
deal of respect for Canadians and what they did during their first attempt at serving their country
during their country. The respect and numerous offerings that France donates in return of Canada s
accomplishments shows Canada of appreciation and respect. It would also show the other nations that
what Canada accomplished on the battlefield f Vimy Ridge was big for a country s army serving in
their first world war. The deeds of which Canada fulfilled during the Battle of Vimy Ridge brought
respect from other countries.
The considerably new Canadian Army at the time, gained confidence after their victory at Vimy
Ridge. Firstly, Canada gained its confidence through their first victory

How Did Benjamin Franklin Play In Bringing About The...
The Treaty of Paris saw an effective end to the American Revolutionary War and brought relative
peace to the United States of America and Great Britain. The treaty was officially signed on
September 3, 1783 by one representative from Great Britain: David Hartley, and three American
representatives: John Adams, John Jay, and Benjamin Franklin. All three of the American
representatives played important roles in bringing about the treaty, but Benjamin Franklin, the senior
of the three, was particularly crucial to their endeavours. Franklin worked toward the ending of the
American Revolution as a brilliant diplomat, the first American Minister to France, and other roles.
Benjamin Franklin was a man who understood people and their motivations,

Pharmaceutical Companies And The Pharmaceutical Industry
These pharmaceutical companies can increase their prices dramatically without the fear of losing
profits because there is a lack of competition in their field. Since there is no other companies in the
field to compete prices with, companies like Turing Pharmaceuticals can dramatically increase their
price to increase their revenue. Even prior to Turing Pharmaceutical s price increase, there was no
competitors and large profits were being made. What is odd about this situation is that despite the
large amount of profits being earned there are no new competitors entering the field. With other
industries, when is an observed large amounts of profits being earned, there can be seen a large
amount of new competitors entering the market. However, this is not the case for the pharmaceutical
industry. According to Donna Sym, there are no new entrants in the pharmaceutical industry, only
mergers within the industry (443). There are no new pharmaceutical companies entering the field.
Instead the current pharmaceutical companies are buying the ownership of the different drugs from
each other. When there is new ownership of a particular drug, most likely there would be a price
increase that follows along. As observed with Daraprim, when Turing Pharmaceuticals gained
ownership of Daraprim, there was an observed price increase of more than 5,000 percent. As of right
now, in the market for Daraprim, there has been a company named Imprimis Pharmaceuticals that has
created a $1 alternative

A Brief Look at Quantum Optics
Quantum optics tells us that left (l) and right (r) circularly polarized (CP) photon conveys integer spin
angular momentum, +ℏ and ℏ, respectively, although photon is massless elemental particle. The nature
of integer spin obeying Bose Einstein statics makes plural spins confine in an ultrasmall
temporalspace with the same quantum state, meanwhile, half integer spin like electron denies to share
the same quantum state in a molecular space, well known as Pauli exclusion principle. Intense CP
photon acts as an energy source that preferentially generate optically active substance from prochiral
substances and/or to preferentially decompose one enantiomer from racemic mixtures. On the other
hand, weak CP photon is used as a probe to detect substance chirality in the ground and photoexcited
states, known as circular dichroism (CD), optical rotation dispersion (ORD) and circularly polarized
luminescence (CPL) spectroscopy.1 Knowledge and understanding an efficient generation and
reversibility of optically active substances from achiral precursors in the absence of chiral chemical
influence has long been a challenging subject among chemists and scientists. This approach called
absolute asymmetric synthesis (AAS) is beneficial to avoid multiple step synthesis that often require
designed catalysts and specific chiral chemical sources with high ee.2 So far, several AASs have been
employed, including spontaneous symmetry breaking crystallization, vortex stirring,3f 3h

Erasing the Gap between Video Game Consoles and Mobile Phones
Imagine yourself to be a time traveler and go back to year 2000 when the world of mobile phones was
dominated by our very own Snake game, in which one used to feed a hungry snake dots, squares or
other objects to grow their length, making sure it stealthily avoid eating its own self. But there existed
this elite class who owned their very own PlayStation 2, and hence were given the title of ultimate
gamers without any doubt. Zip to 2014 where we literally need to take out our umbrellas and protect
ourselves from pouring game apps. With game categories ranging from action to puzzles, and target
audience from a 3 year old to 80 years old, there is no end to the options. This is the era of
Smartphones and everybody is a gamer or potential gamer now. Thanks to the everything you require
is in a 5 inch slim cuboid box , the world has started questioning the worth of video game consoles
now. Smartphones gaining popularity as Console In a recent report on Consumer Spending on Games
in 2013 published by App Annie, a market intelligence firm, both iOS App Store and Google Play
noted hike in app store game revenue as compared to handheld game consoles. Besides, Nintendo
suffered from 30 percent drop in profits in Q3FY13 and operating loss of 1.58 billion yen (£8.78m).
One of the reasons behind this growing interest is that games are much cheaper on smartphones as
compared to those on console counterparts and are just a touch away. Besides, top end smartphones

The Growth of Portuguese Immigrants and their ensuing...
The Portuguese came to America for the opportunity and chance to obtain the American Dream. While
most immigrants that came to America worked factory jobs, the Portuguese came for whaling, fishing,
ship making, and the aquaculture industry. There was a need for the new wave of Portuguese
immigrants to be close to the water since Portugal resides along the Atlantic Ocean, so therefore they
settled in regions such as: Southern New England, San Francisco Bay, California, and Hawaii.
Considering Portugal s close approximation to the water, one may understand why mostly all
Portuguese immigrants worked in maritime industry. Unfortunately, even considering all the labor and
business the Portuguese brought to America, there was still discrimination towards them and their
contributions to America s industrial growth. The ideology, nativism, was the concept of protecting the
interests of established inhabitants, which henceforth created countless difficulties for the Portuguese.
Nativist beliefs which marginalized against Portuguese immigrants where laws such as the
Naturalization act of 1798, which required a citizen to have lived in America for 5 14 years before
applying for citizenship, as well as the Johnson Quota act, which limited immigration to 2% of the
country s current population . Portuguese still continued to attempt to make America their home while
struggling to make a living and while avoiding the hardships caused by the nativist laws. Even with
the constant resentment

The Scheduling Of Project Management
Hypothesis: The scheduling in project management is the discipline for stating how to complete a
project within a certain timeframe, usually with defined stage, and with designated resources. The
project schedule reflects all of the work associated with delivering the project on time. It shows how
the work will progress over a period of time and takes into account factors such as limited resources
and estimating uncertainty. Without a full and complete schedule, the project manager will be unable
to communicate the complete effort, in terms of cost and resources, necessary to deliver the project.
Scheduling: Scheduling in simple words would be defined as tabulating different tasks in a project in a
proper sequence from start to end of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Precedence: An activity must be preceded by another activity, i.e. the activity cannot start until a
predecessor activity has been completed (e.g. a hole must be excavated before concrete is poured for a
pier) Succession: an activity must be succeeded by another activity, i.e. the activity should be
performed immediately after another activity (e.g. concrete must be immediately consolidated after it
is poured, and it must be immediately finished after it is consolidated). Thus, an activity may have: No
predecessor or successor. Only a predecessor. Only a successor. Both a predecessor and a successor.
Event: Event is the start or end state of an activity. It doesn t consume any resource. Each activity
must have two events. Event may serve more than one activity at a time and is used to connect the
activities. Event is a point in the time but not a passage of the time. It is denoted by a circle with a
number or a dot with a number. Network: A structure that connects activities in a system that allows us
to complete the project objective. To bring the project into network form, we can determine activities
within it via a work breakdown structure (WBS). In general, the network format consists of two
elements: Nodes: Junctures in the network (normally represented by a bubble, circle or other closed

Descartes Arguments For The Mind Body Problem
The mind body problem can be understood in the following way, there is something it is like to be and
this being is by its nature subjective and an organism has conscious metal states only if there is
something it is like to be that organism. This indeed seems to be incredibly perplexing to explain in
terms of science because science the way it is practiced currently only explains phenomena
objectively, either it tries to reduce and explain the subjective in terms of objective processes or only
makes co relation of the subjective processes to the objective processes but if it only makes co relation
then it is not able to explain the subjective itself. For example take the color red, no account of any
physical theory of light wave, how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This idea was first pointed to as far back as Thomas Hobbes and Pierre Gassendi, they both made
claims which now would be understood as mind/brain identity theory (R 39). However it wasn t till
the mid nineteen hundreds this claim was systematically fleshed out by a group of Australian
philosophers which included J.J.C Smart. Smart gives the following analogy to make the argument
clear, mental states are identical to brain states in the same way water in identical to H2O or lightning
is identical to atmospheric electrical discharge. To further clarify the argument we will explain the
important distinction between token and types. Imagine that there are four German Shepard s playing
in the park, in this case we have four tokens of the type German Shepard. The tokens are the
individual dogs and the type is the kind or class they belong to. The German Shepherds also belong to
many other types for example, mammals, animals, material, object, etc. Now that we have the
distinction between tokens and types clear we can further proceed and explain token identity and type
identity. Take for example Superman and Clark Kent are the same person so if were to be invited to a
party by Clerk Kent you are simultaneously invited to the party by Superman. Thus Clerk Kent and
Superman being the same person are token identical.

The Impact Of Chinese Immigrants In America
During the 17th and 18th centuries, the British colonies were settled by a variety of European peoples
who came to America to seek opportunity and escape political and religious persecution. Although
immigration was encouraged in the colonial era, as the vast majority of immigrants were white, Anglo
Saxon Protestants, when foreigners of another sorts began entering the United States in the 1790s,
immigrants were suddenly no longer welcome. Of these new immigrants, the Chinese became the first
Asian people to immigrate to the United States in significant numbers. Their arrival was spurred by
the job opportunities opened up by the Gold Rush of 1849 and the construction of the transcontinental
railroad in the 1860s, as well as by a civil war tearing China apart during the 1850s. Of the Chinese
who immigrated to the United States in the 19th century, more than 90 percent lived in the 10
westernmost states, and more than two thirds were in California.
While the Chinese were initially welcomed as a source of low wage labor, they experienced a severe
backlash in the 1870s. By that time, the Gold Rush had ended and the transcontinental railroad was
complete, leaving a large population of Chinese immigrants and American settlers in their wake. Job
competition between these two groups became fierce, particularly after the Panic of 1873 that
triggered a long economic depression. Chinese workers, who were often willing to work for less than
their American counterparts, increasingly

Terry Barrett Analysis
A famous American photographer, Ansel Adams once said, Photography, [is] a powerful medium of
expression and communications, offers an infinite variety of perception, interpretation and execution.
Indeed, this statement is true and explains what photography is all about. In addition, there is evidence
to prove of understanding a photographer s photos, in the Principles for Interpreting Photographs by
Terry Barret. Through Barrett s research, if people interpret photos then everyone will understand the
true meaning of it by asking and answering questions. Also, Barrett said that photography can be
persuasive and omnipresent form of communication and persuasion in popular visual culture ,
likewise, a photo can represent a true story, by

  • 4. Pride And Prejudice Music Analysis Pride Prejudice, the quintessential classic that has inspired countless iterations, returned to film in 2005 with fresh faces Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen as protagonists Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. Its widely lauded soundtrack, composed by Dario Marianelli, was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures category for Original Score, among other awards. If Marianelli and director Joe Wright s objective was to evoke music of the time period, they seem to have done just that. The Classical style matches the feel of Jane Austen novels and the era in which Pride Prejudice was written. The romantic relationship between Lizzie and Mr. Darcy is also enhanced by the music. This paper demonstrates that the soundtrack parallels the development of Lizzie and her feelings for Mr. Darcy. Lizzie s theme is a recurring element that plots their relationship from introduction to inevitably happy end. Further, the theme of Darcy s Letter , present in a number of scenes, helps to depict when Lizzie begins to feel differently about Mr. Darcy. The diegetic playing of Lizzie s theme also offers an interesting look into the social classes of the time and how they affected relationships. The most frequently occurring music in Pride Prejudice is Lizzie s theme. During the opening sequence, a bright morning is shown as birds chirp. Soft piano is heard pulsing and Lizzie walks on screen reading a book. The tempo hastens slightly as Lizzie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Khrushchev Missiles Essay Q: How far do these sources provide convincing evidence that Khrushchev put missiles into Cuba to defend the country from the U.S? Use the sources provided to backup your answer. (12 marks) It is clear the majority of these sources indeed provide convincing evidence that Khrushchev s principal intention (concerning the implementation of nuclear missiles into Cuba) was to protect the country from the imminent threat of the U.S. However, this is not an unanimous statement as Source B G will show. The first suggestion that the chief reason for placing these missiles into Cuba was to defend the country comes in Source C, where Khrushchev states that Cuba were known to be very vulnerable to their enemies, and that especially right now he saw the U.S as a continual threat to the Communist country. Most importantly, he claimed the U.S would not leave Cuba alone unless the Soviets interfered. The suggestion that the U.S were threatening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This letter spread to the public would present Khrushchev in a very gracious light, as it is apparent his sole aim is to prevent the invasion Cuba by the U.S. In this letter we can see no mention of the U.S intent to abuse Cuba to spread the word of Communism, nor use it to threaten the U.S due to it s proximity. A final source displaying the altruist intentions of the U.S.S.R in Cuba is Source F, where Khrushchev yet again states that their purpose in Cuba was to help people develop and of course, how could Cuba continue develop under the vehement pressure of the U.S? Khrushchev suggests here the missiles were solely placed where they were to prevent the invasion of Cuba by the U.S so the U.S.S.R could help the country continue to develop . • 6. Dances With Wolves Essay Dances With Wolves No matter how you choose to categorize human beings, whether by race or religion, nationality or gender, the resultant categories will display at least one immutable constant. Each group, no matter how diverse their beliefs or how dissimilar their behaviors, will contain men of honest and peaceful natures as well as men of divisive and violent natures. In the film Dances With Wolves, we are exposed to two distinct categories of people inhabiting post civil war America, the white man and the Native American. We, most likely, begin the movie with defined ideas as to which group contains honest, peaceful men and which group contains violent and savage men. We are, however, exposed to behaviors which are in opposition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But, compassionate, thinking white men are definitely in the minority in this film. When John begins his Westward move, the crude, maniacal white man makes his reappearance. The officer who gives John the information about getting to his new post appears to be downright insane and apparently kills himself. The guide who accompanies John to his post is also no prize. John refers to him as the foulest man alive (Dances with Wolves). This constant exposure to the violent and crude men who make up the white race is an effective first step in shifting our sympathies. We want to distance ourselves from these shameful characters. We don t want to identify with them. Our first exposure to Indians is a mere suggestion of the expected stereotype. We are shown a skeleton on the ground with an arrow stuck through it. So far so good. We are accustomed to that image. Dunbar s guide states that Indians are nothin but thieves and beggars and that you only want to see them when they are dead (Dances with Wolves). He, of course, is such an exemplary man that it s not ironic at all to hear him degrading someone else. From the beginning of the film we are given hints that Dunbar is not like his fellow ugly Americans. When John and his guide arrive at the deserted Fort, the guide is in a hurry to be away. He is nervous and uncomfortable and thinks nothing of leaving without accomplishing what he was sent to do. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

People who have never dealt with special needs children do not see what they go through on a daily basis. One out of every 10 children under the age of 14 has some type of special need. Which includes any medical disability, chronic or life threatening illness. The children and parents both deal with emotional battles. The parents are more tired, emotionally and physically than a parent without a special need kid. They feel alone, because raising a special needs kid is very challenging and takes a lot more effort. • 8. Analysis Of The Shining Formal Analysis of The Shining In his exemplary horror film, The Shining, Stanley Kubrick uses various components of editing and sound to create unique and terrifying scenes. Kubrick relies on editing and sound design to aid the horrifying and creepy feel that was made in the in the movie. All throughout the movie, the unique sound design and strong editing techniques create many diverse effects on the viewer, however the most evident effect created a sense of fear and suspense. One scene specifically emerges as a skillfully edited part in the movie. In this scene, Wendy and Danny Torrance leave the hotel to walk through the hedge maze. Wendy and Danny both wandered around inside the massive maze. The scene then cuts to a shot of Jack walking up to a model of the maze that is in the lobby. The scene then cuts to a close up of the model of the maze. Tiny versions of Wendy and Danny are shown walking through the maze. The Jack and the viewer can hear Wendy and Danny talking even though he is not with them. This helps the allusion that Jack is viewing them experience the maze. As the scene proceeds, it cuts to clips of Wendy and Danny walking in the actual maze. The maze scene is a case of parallel editing. Using parallel editing in the scene, the viewer accept that Wendy and Danny are experiencing the maze while Jack is watching the through the model of the maze. Halfway there, I thought, happy to be done with another stressful day of classes. After most of the other passengers disembark to board the train, those of us which stay on the bus each have our own seats. The bus driver steps off the bus, as he does each day, to smoke a cigarette. Each day I contemplate how the complex interplay of individuals can become simple routine, reduced to the same exhausted ride to school every morning, matched to the seemingly endless ride home every afternoon. I wouldn t be able to cope with the chaos that some people enjoy, I prefer my simple, reliable routines. Nevertheless, every day I contemplate the paths each of the passengers had to follow for this scene to play out as it does each day. The path that inevitably leads to me sitting on the bus and watching the driver smoke his cigarette at the same time, in the same place, five out of seven days a week. I look up to another familiar scene playing out beyond the Plexiglas windows of the bus: a group of homeless men passing their days exposed to the elements. Some are splayed out across the lawns of an adjacent office building, others are digging in the cracks of the pavement for cigarette butts. • 10. Endothelial Inos Research Paper Nitric oxide (NO) is an important cellular signaling molecule that participates in diverse physiological functions in mammals, including vasodilation, smooth muscle relaxation, neurotransmission, and the immune response. NO, a free radical, is produced by a family of enzymes called nitric oxide synthases (NOS) by the oxidation of L arginine to L citrulline. There are three isoforms of NOS. Two of them, neuronal NOS (nNOS) and endothelial NOS (eNOS), are constitutively expressed, while the third one is inducible and is thus termed iNOS. nNOS is primarily found in the nervous system and is necessary for neuronal signaling, while eNOS is localized to the endothelium and is essential for vasodilation and control of blood pressure (5). These two isoforms produce nanomolar amounts of NO for short periods of time (seconds to minutes) in a calcium/calmodulin (CaM) dependent manner (1, 91, 189). ... The considerable amount of NO produced helps to defend against invading pathogens and is thus critical for the inflammatory response and the innate immune system. Inappropriately high NO concentrations from overexpression or dysregulation of iNOS, on the other hand, can result in toxic effects and is associated with a variety of human diseases, including septic shock, cardiac dysfunction, pain, diabetes, and cancers (161). The dual activity of iNOS related NO (helpful vs. harmful) is highly concentration dependent. Therefore, regulation of its production is important for both maintaining its proper physiological functions and controlling its deleterious ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, there are certain individuals who feel the need to dictate the path that others choose to take. Like all actions, there are equal and opposite reactions, in this case, a consequence. As seen in Sophocles Antigone and Harold Brighthouse s Hobson s Choice, the consequence that Kreon and Henry face for prohibiting individuals pursuit of the good life is isolation from loved ones. Sophocles character Kreon faces the ultimate price of isolation for interfering in the pursuit of Antigone s good life as depicted in the play Antigone. Antigone s view of building the good life was to honor the Gods and what they wished upon the people. When Antigone s two brothers die Kreon declares a proclamation, not to honor him [Polynices] with funeral rites or wail for him ( Sophocles, line 203 204), this went against the views of the Gods. Antigone would rather go against Kreon s word and please the Gods by preforming the burial rites for her brother, in pursuit of her own good life. However, Kreon does not let this act of disobedience slide, he sends her to a cave to leave her there alone, deserted, whether she desires to die or to love entombed (lines 887 888). This act of prohibiting Antigone from living her good life cost Kreon the price of the loved ones around him. After Antigone was locked away, she was found hanging by her neck (line 1221), she kills herself. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Digital mammography is now replacing the old analog mammography units. There are many concepts digital mammography has implemented into their new unit that came from analog mammography. The most basic concept is, x rays pass through the breast. The breast tissue attenuates the x ray photons in different degrees, which shows us different structures inside the breast. Cancer is demonstrated by being whiter than granular tissue, but detecting cancer varies among analog and digital. This is where digital mammography starts to become different than analog. Digital mammography didn t sell quick when the first data came out. The first results showed that there wasn t much difference between analog or digital. With the rural hospitals not being able to afford digital mammography units, most hospitals have to consolidate or give up mammography. This is the main reason analog is still thriving. How Is Aerial Portrayed In The Little Mermaid The Little Mermaid is a fairy tale that was written by Hans Christian Andersen in 1836 and then remade by Disney in 1989, which turned out to be a popular animated film targeted for young, juvenile children, specifically girls. The Little Mermaid is about a fifteen year old mermaid, named Aerial, who was willing to give up her family, voice and tail to win over a man, Prince Eric. Watching The Little Mermaid as a kid, I loved the movie. I never seen any negatives until watching it again as an adult. It characterizes how women are viewed in today s society. In The Little Mermaid, Aerial is characterized for her appearance and beautiful singing voice. Throughout the film, we learn that Aerial changes her appearance against her father s wishes all for the marriage of a man. Aerial gave up her voice and her mermaid tail to the sea witch, Ursula, for a man that she fell in love with. The Little Mermaid is about doing whatever it takes to make dreams come true for girls but shows it negatively because Aerial alters her body to please a man. The princess stories in the folk fairy tales are full of symbolism and portray a gritty, harsh world to reinforce the cautionary aspects of the tales being told. Not mentioned in Hollen s account was Murphy s killing of two Germans who he stumbled across before finding the light machine gun, a fact which both Smith s and Graham s accounts mention . The accounts do seem to differ in that Murphy describes machine gun fire being responsible for Tipton s death while Hollen suggests it was a sniper . Graham supports Murphy s assertion of machine gun fire being the cause of Tipton s death, as he places the blame not on a sniper in the house, but on the machine gun nest which Murphy storms . Meanwhile, David Smith, writer of The Price of Valor, sides with Hollen, claiming a single sniper shot was responsible for Tipton s death. Two schools of thought appeared in the literature about what occurred and there seems no way of reconciling them. However, Smith claims that Murphy said that it was a sniper, not a machine gun, contradicting the narrative of To Hell and Back. Murphy s and Graham s accounts seem to show that he did not use his carbine, while Hollen and Smith both claim that Murphy killed the two Germans who had approached with the flag of surrender with his carbine. • 21. Essay on Feasability of Self-Assessment in ESL Classrooms  Introduction: Assessment is one of the crucial components of the education. Traditional exams and tests are mostly based on materials taught in the course to meet predetermined objectives. They cannot assess whether or not learners can apply it. To truly understand some new ideas, students need to apply it. My experience as an English teacher provides some ideas to frame my discussion of assessment. Although many teachers think that the scores of the exams and the tests are objective and cannot be wrong, I think that these scores are uncertain they need to be supplemented by some other assessments. Traditional assessments in their summative and formative forms such as tests, quizzes or exams are often graded and returned back to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A series of self assessments could lead the learners to monitoring progress towards specific learning objectives. In learner centered curricula, learners should be encouraged to be active participants in the assessing process rather than only being the passive test takers. Despite the fact that some teachers may be reluctant to transfer the responsibility of assessment to their learners, but proponents of this trend argue that there is much to be gained from it, and that the students are capable of evaluating themselves if they are given the adequate and necessary guidance. However, self assessment is another method of creating interactive learning atmosphere, where the students focus on applying their knowledge. Moreover, recent research refers to the self assessment as an increasingly important factor of teaching English language or any second language. According to Ian Tudor, assessment is integral to the teaching learning process, and can be as learner centered and motivation based as any other form of learning . Previous research was done to emphasize the positive outcomes and the objectives of the self assessment which can be used to encourage the learners to reflect on their learning and be aware of strengths, weaknesses and further needs. It also inspires them to set goals on the basis of their evaluations. The procedure of checking their learning and progress through the self assessment may help the students to develop their learning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This offering of France to Canada is a sign of respect as France is willingly giving land to Canada to thank them for the vitory they brought. As a result of this, Canada would respected by other nations when they realize how large of a task Canada attempted and conquered during its first war. Finally, France spent tons of money on creating a memorial monument for Canada on the land they ceded. After ceding the land France also spent 11 years and $1,500,000 on a limestone monument as a poignant reminder of the sixty thousand Canadians who died serving their country during World War I. By spending the money and time to create a monument for Canada shows that France has a great deal of respect for Canadians and what they did during their first attempt at serving their country during their country. The respect and numerous offerings that France donates in return of Canada s accomplishments shows Canada of appreciation and respect. It would also show the other nations that what Canada accomplished on the battlefield f Vimy Ridge was big for a country s army serving in their first world war. The deeds of which Canada fulfilled during the Battle of Vimy Ridge brought respect from other countries. The Treaty of Paris saw an effective end to the American Revolutionary War and brought relative peace to the United States of America and Great Britain. The treaty was officially signed on September 3, 1783 by one representative from Great Britain: David Hartley, and three American representatives: John Adams, John Jay, and Benjamin Franklin. All three of the American representatives played important roles in bringing about the treaty, but Benjamin Franklin, the senior of the three, was particularly crucial to their endeavours. Franklin worked toward the ending of the American Revolution as a brilliant diplomat, the first American Minister to France, and other roles. • 24. Pharmaceutical Companies And The Pharmaceutical Industry These pharmaceutical companies can increase their prices dramatically without the fear of losing profits because there is a lack of competition in their field. Since there is no other companies in the field to compete prices with, companies like Turing Pharmaceuticals can dramatically increase their price to increase their revenue. Even prior to Turing Pharmaceutical s price increase, there was no competitors and large profits were being made. What is odd about this situation is that despite the large amount of profits being earned there are no new competitors entering the field. With other industries, when is an observed large amounts of profits being earned, there can be seen a large amount of new competitors entering the market. However, this is not the case for the pharmaceutical industry. According to Donna Sym, there are no new entrants in the pharmaceutical industry, only mergers within the industry (443). There are no new pharmaceutical companies entering the field. Instead the current pharmaceutical companies are buying the ownership of the different drugs from each other. When there is new ownership of a particular drug, most likely there would be a price increase that follows along. As observed with Daraprim, when Turing Pharmaceuticals gained ownership of Daraprim, there was an observed price increase of more than 5,000 percent. As of right now, in the market for Daraprim, there has been a company named Imprimis Pharmaceuticals that has created a $1 alternative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. A Brief Look at Quantum Optics Quantum optics tells us that left (l) and right (r) circularly polarized (CP) photon conveys integer spin angular momentum, +ℏ and ℏ, respectively, although photon is massless elemental particle. The nature of integer spin obeying Bose Einstein statics makes plural spins confine in an ultrasmall temporalspace with the same quantum state, meanwhile, half integer spin like electron denies to share the same quantum state in a molecular space, well known as Pauli exclusion principle. Intense CP photon acts as an energy source that preferentially generate optically active substance from prochiral substances and/or to preferentially decompose one enantiomer from racemic mixtures. On the other hand, weak CP photon is used as a probe to detect substance chirality in the ground and photoexcited states, known as circular dichroism (CD), optical rotation dispersion (ORD) and circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) spectroscopy.1 Knowledge and understanding an efficient generation and reversibility of optically active substances from achiral precursors in the absence of chiral chemical influence has long been a challenging subject among chemists and scientists. This approach called absolute asymmetric synthesis (AAS) is beneficial to avoid multiple step synthesis that often require designed catalysts and specific chiral chemical sources with high ee.2 So far, several AASs have been employed, including spontaneous symmetry breaking crystallization, vortex stirring,3f 3h ... • 28. The Growth of Portuguese Immigrants and their ensuing... The Portuguese came to America for the opportunity and chance to obtain the American Dream. While most immigrants that came to America worked factory jobs, the Portuguese came for whaling, fishing, ship making, and the aquaculture industry. There was a need for the new wave of Portuguese immigrants to be close to the water since Portugal resides along the Atlantic Ocean, so therefore they settled in regions such as: Southern New England, San Francisco Bay, California, and Hawaii. Considering Portugal s close approximation to the water, one may understand why mostly all Portuguese immigrants worked in maritime industry. Unfortunately, even considering all the labor and business the Portuguese brought to America, there was still discrimination towards them and their contributions to America s industrial growth. The ideology, nativism, was the concept of protecting the interests of established inhabitants, which henceforth created countless difficulties for the Portuguese. Nativist beliefs which marginalized against Portuguese immigrants where laws such as the Naturalization act of 1798, which required a citizen to have lived in America for 5 14 years before applying for citizenship, as well as the Johnson Quota act, which limited immigration to 2% of the country s current population . Portuguese still continued to attempt to make America their home while struggling to make a living and while avoiding the hardships caused by the nativist laws. Even with the constant resentment ... The Scheduling Of Project Management Hypothesis: The scheduling in project management is the discipline for stating how to complete a project within a certain timeframe, usually with defined stage, and with designated resources. The project schedule reflects all of the work associated with delivering the project on time. It shows how the work will progress over a period of time and takes into account factors such as limited resources and estimating uncertainty. Without a full and complete schedule, the project manager will be unable to communicate the complete effort, in terms of cost and resources, necessary to deliver the project. • 30. Descartes Arguments For The Mind Body Problem The mind body problem can be understood in the following way, there is something it is like to be and this being is by its nature subjective and an organism has conscious metal states only if there is something it is like to be that organism. This indeed seems to be incredibly perplexing to explain in terms of science because science the way it is practiced currently only explains phenomena objectively, either it tries to reduce and explain the subjective in terms of objective processes or only makes co relation of the subjective processes to the objective processes but if it only makes co relation then it is not able to explain the subjective itself. For example take the color red, no account of any physical theory of light wave, how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This idea was first pointed to as far back as Thomas Hobbes and Pierre Gassendi, they both made claims which now would be understood as mind/brain identity theory (R 39). However it wasn t till the mid nineteen hundreds this claim was systematically fleshed out by a group of Australian philosophers which included J.J.C Smart. Smart gives the following analogy to make the argument clear, mental states are identical to brain states in the same way water in identical to H2O or lightning is identical to atmospheric electrical discharge. To further clarify the argument we will explain the important distinction between token and types. Imagine that there are four German Shepard s playing in the park, in this case we have four tokens of the type German Shepard. The tokens are the individual dogs and the type is the kind or class they belong to. The German Shepherds also belong to many other types for example, mammals, animals, material, object, etc. Now that we have the distinction between tokens and types clear we can further proceed and explain token identity and type identity. Take for example Superman and Clark Kent are the same person so if were to be invited to a party by Clerk Kent you are simultaneously invited to the party by Superman. Thus Clerk Kent and Superman being the same person are token identical. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. The Impact Of Chinese Immigrants In America During the 17th and 18th centuries, the British colonies were settled by a variety of European peoples who came to America to seek opportunity and escape political and religious persecution. Although immigration was encouraged in the colonial era, as the vast majority of immigrants were white, Anglo Saxon Protestants, when foreigners of another sorts began entering the United States in the 1790s, immigrants were suddenly no longer welcome. Of these new immigrants, the Chinese became the first Asian people to immigrate to the United States in significant numbers. Their arrival was spurred by the job opportunities opened up by the Gold Rush of 1849 and the construction of the transcontinental railroad in the 1860s, as well as by a civil war tearing China apart during the 1850s. Of the Chinese who immigrated to the United States in the 19th century, more than 90 percent lived in the 10 westernmost states, and more than two thirds were in California. While the Chinese were initially welcomed as a source of low wage labor, they experienced a severe backlash in the 1870s. By that time, the Gold Rush had ended and the transcontinental railroad was complete, leaving a large population of Chinese immigrants and American settlers in their wake. Job competition between these two groups became fierce, particularly after the Panic of 1873 that triggered a long economic depression.
