High Fat Diet Bad For Mental Health
Introduction
For this assignment I am going to analyze the popular press article High fat diet bad for mental health,
may lead to depression featured in Tech Times Magazine. During which I will examine their claim
against the actual, scientific data in the Biological Psychiatry Journal. This analysis will provide
insight on how popular press articles may misinterpret a study and spread false information to the
public.
Summary: Tech Times Magazine
In the article the author, James Maynard, tried to interpret a study published by Biological Psychiatry
Journal on Obese type Gut Microbiota Induce Neurobehavioral Changes in the Absence of Obesity.
Maynard found that mice from the study were fed different types of foods: one high in fat and the
other in normal chow diet. The rats that were fed the fat enriched diet showed some symptoms of
anxiety and forgetfulness, while the other rats were seemingly okay. In these findings, Maynard makes
and Association claim that High fat diets can cause Depression and other psychological risks. The
article does not advocate for a change in diet, but does not give any reference to other possible causes
to the lab results.
Summary: Biological Psychiatry Journal
The study intended to look at the gut microbiome that is naturally present within the gut. The research
team of the Louisiana State University designed an experiment with lab rats to predict how the
manipulation of the gut microbiome with a high fat diet would affect their brain

Slavoj Zizek Essay
In The Pervert s Guide to Ideology, Slavoj Zizek explains his analytical theories about the ideology
behind multiple films. His most radical ideological explanation seems to be the one regarding
Scorsese s The Last Temptation of Jesus Christ. When Zizek embarks on the mission to explain to the
viewer what the theories behind the film are, he shows some of the most gruesome and emotional
scenes of the film. However, although his theories seem almost too complex to understand, they play a
role in exploring the fine line between Christianity and Atheism. Now, one might be questioning if the
line between these two counterparts is even fine, but Zizek clearly draws for the viewer the thinnest
line possible as they try to follow the complex path of his argument of what the film truly ... Show

Yet, despite his explanations, Zizek enters into a paradoxical realm of religious beliefs that becomes
more confusing as the film progresses. What does Zizek mean when he claims that Christianity is
more atheist than Atheism? Can something be more related to its counterpart than the counterpart
itself? Such a question can only be explored by examining the progression of Zizek s argument. For
Zizek, such a question is true when applied to the Christianity displayed in the film. If Atheism is the
disbelief in God, then the Christianity in the film is inherently more Atheist because it completely
disintegrates God, the Big Other.
The film begins the process of revealing Christianity s Atheist characteristics with the idea of hysteria.
Slavoj Zizek proposes the idea of hysteria playing a role in the life of Jesus Christ. He defines hysteria
as the way we question our social, symbolic identity. He begins analyzing his own definition by
explaining how it plays a role in the character of Jesus Christ in the film The Last Temptation of
Christ. Zizek also explores different dimensions of the word as he attaches it to

The Ice Age
From 2002 to 2016, the Ice Age movie franchise, produced by Blue Sky Studios, has capitalized on
events during the Pleistocene Epoch period when massive warming occurred in the earth. Even though
these movies are entertaining, they depict a view of how wildlife, plant life, and the earth s
environment drastically changed, albeit for the worse. For the most part, the release of carbon dioxide
is the causal effect of the death and destruction of the planet as it was known at that time. There has
been an ongoing debate as to the direct reason for the atmosphere s chemical composition, including
the release of harmful gases. The article, Melting of massive ice lid resulted in huge release of carbon
dioxide at the end of the Ice Age, written by Jenny Roberts
(www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/01/160104163203.htm), suggests the melting of sea ice caused

Even though there are unchangeable factors such as the ice age, there are variables such as driving
cars, burning coal, and generating electricity, an illustration of the human footprints, which demands
alteration, if not elimination. People should question their actions, especially, if they want a clean
environment for the baby that is born today.
Ice Age, the franchise, hilariously illustrates the end of the ice age with characters that have realized
that they are, for the most part, one of a kind because their counterparts have become extinct. These
animated shows did not address the reasons for the meltdown, even though they addressed many of
the effects. Interestingly enough, it appears that the earth s warming is caused by the release of carbon
dioxide, and the melting of the sea s ice is a significant culprit of this

Essay about Phar Mor Inc Case Study

The Case of Phar Mor Inc
ACCT 525
October 31, 2012
Case Summary
The case of Phar Mor Inc was one of the biggest pre Enron frauds that have been uncovered. Phar Mor
Inc established in 1982 Phar Mor was a small little known discount drugstore. Phar Mor became well
known for offering medications at a 25 40% discount rate compared to your normal pharmacy store
prices. Phar Mor s first six years of existence seemingly were fraud free and saw the company grow at
a decent pace for their field. By 1987 Phar Mor almost had 100 stores and was expanding even more
rapidly at this point.
The first hint of fraud came up and was discovered being a billing type scheme ... Show more content

At the time of discovery Phar Mor was overstated by over a $150 million dollars and had no other
choice but to file bankruptcy.
Could SOX have prevented the Phar Mor fraud? How? Which specific sections of SOX?
During the time period that the Phar Mor fraud took place it was one of the most elaborate frauds of
the 1980 s so could SOX prevented the fraud? The answer is debatable because of the extent that Phar
Mor went to cover up the fraud it may have taken several years still to uncover it however, in the long
run I do believe SOX would have prevented the fraud from lasting almost a full decade without being
detected, and would not have been uncovered had it not been for a whistle blower. I think the most
important sections of SOX that would have helped uncover the fraud at Phar Mor are as follows
Section 203 Which deals with the auditors and any possible conflict of interest if they had worked
with Phar Mor in the last calendar year they would have not been able to be the same auditors doing
final audits of the company.
Section 206 Which states that any auditor who had previously worked for the firm and now works for
Phar Mor would cause the firm to not be able to have Phar Mor as a client. Phar Mor had 3 former
employees of the audit firm who worked for them which allowed them the knowledge to know that the

Walt Disney s Intellectual Property Rights
Sophie s business name needed to be unique enough where it doesn t actually infringe on any of Walt
Disney s intellectual property rights. Even though he name is not exactly Walt Disney and the title of
her business is DisneyHartford , the fact that she still included Disney in her title is a problem. When
you think of the word Disney , you automatically think of children s entertainment; as a result, this
goes to show that consumers typically link the word Disney to a specific origin. Since the purpose of
her business was to make an entertainment center for children, she is violating their rights because
both companies are too similar. Consumers will assume that her entertainment center is affiliated with
the Disney Brand when it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If there is a breach in the contract where the Powerball did not give him his percentage, then this
should stay between the Mobile Station and Powerball. Sophie should not be involved in this situation
because she was not a part of the contract initially.
Property refers to tangible and intangible items. Ownership is a concept that means the right to
exclude others (pg. 233). Goodwin secretly owning properly without disclosing this information with
other people or students to the least is a little sketchy. However, I guess if they legally do own this real
property than Sophie has to give it back to them. The legal system protects the right to own, acquire,
protect and divest of real and personal property (pg. 235). If they have never sold this properly it still
belongs to Goodwin. It was her fault that she purchased this property without researching it. Sophia is
also at fault for purchasing real property without getting a title that the properly belonged to her.
Ownership rights are transferred by titles (pg. 245) Even though the property seemed abandoned; no
one technically relinquished new ownership towards it so it still belonged to Goodwin. Sophia got
herself involved with a scammer. Sophia should contact Attorney Sleaze and sue him for selling her
property that was already owned by somebody else. If she gives back the property to Goodwin, she
can also sue him for her money back. She paid $2 million dollars for legal fees so it was his job and
responsibility to

Mice And Men Theme
Of Mice and Men is a novel of hopes and dreams that get broken or shattered. This is evident from the
beginning to the end. The theme is kept vivid by having the characters wanting to believe in a dream
of some kind. The title, Of Mice and Men, comes from a line of the poet Robert Burn. The original
line is The best laid schemes o mice an men gang aft aglay. Which, in modern English, translates to:
The best laid schemes of mice and men often go away. In other words, even something that has been
perfectly planned seldom becomes reality. This concept foreshadows the events that will occur
throughout the narration. It is a natural inclination for a man to dream. Some have lifelong ambitions,
while others may have short term goals. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As they move from one ranch to the other Lennie finds comfort in imagining his dream come true: Go

killing Lennie, George reassures him through this happy place they had imagined and yearned for

powerful a dream can be in one s life. In Of Mice and Men the dream gives them life, even though life
itself doesn t allow them to achieve it. In the same way their dream makes death sweeter and bearable.
George and Lennie may have never achieved their dream; but that is what kept their friendship alive
throughout the difficulties of life. The goal of living off the fatta the land couldn t actually be reached,
yet it was real in their imagination and that is what really mattered. Additionally Steinbeck gives,

The present study investigates the cytogenetic changes that could be induced in cancer cells after
treatment with PDT. In this work, we evaluated the cytotoxic and genotoxic effects that could be
induced by 5 ALA/PDT on two different cancer cell lines; adenocarcinoma breast cancer (MCF 7) and
hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG2). When MCF 7 and HepG2 cell lines treated with 5 ALA (0.5, 1, 1.5
and 2mM) alone for 4h then incubated for 24h, 5 ALA did not induce cytotoxic effects on both cell
lines. Also, laser irradiation alone did not induce a cytotoxic effect on MCF 7 or HepG2 cells after

The effectiveness of 5 ALA/PDT to destroy acne lesions was evaluated by obstructing innate immune
response via the Toll like receptors (TLR), which overexpressed in human keratinocytes with acne

Micronucleus test is considered as one of the main cytogenetic parameters, which record partial or
whole chromosome breakage during mitosis [17]. Therefore, the efficacy of 5 ALA/PDT to induce
DNA damage, and release chromatin during mitosis, was detected by MN test. When MCF 7 and
HepG2 cell lines were treated with 5 ALA/PDT at 633nm, the ratio of micronuclei was increased

The amount of economically disadvantaged Jewish people has been consistently rising for years
within the Montreal community. With 18.5% of the community falling under the poverty line,
Montreal has the highest rate of Jewish poverty in Canada. MADA is an organization tasked with
lowering this number in the coming years and is close to the hearts of many, both clients and
volunteers alike. For example, Lauren Rubio has been dedicating her time to this facility for over ten
years and is one of many dedicated volunteers. MADA has two main goals, says Rubio. The first is to

The Impacts Of Globalization In China
Globalisation refers to the integration between different countries and economies and the increased
impact of international influences on all aspects of life and economic activity . China is the world s
second largest economy and is the fastest growing economy over the past decades, hence known as an
emerging economy, by sustaining an average rate of growth of around 10% GDP p.a (2014). Hence,
with the transition from a purely planned to a market driven or free market economy has also
facilitated progress in development, trade and increases in per capita income paving the way for
poverty reduction. The impacts of globalisation have enabled the Chinese government to adopt
various strategies in response, and consequently have had significant impacts on the Chinese economy
to promote _______ and _______. China has sustained a high rate of average annual growth in real
GDP 10.1% between 1998 and 2008. The growth rate peaked at 14.2% in 2007 but slowed to 9.2%
due to the impact of the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) on China s exports and inflows of foreign
investments. Hence, in 2015, China s growth was 6.9%, falling to 6.7% in 2016 and forecast at 6.7%
in 2017. Despite these recent slowdowns, the Chinese economy has seen a rapid rise in overall
economic performance over the past years due to the introduction of globalisation. The Chinese
government has capitalised on growth opportunities through policies promoting trade and foreign
investment. Through the Great Leap

Winston Churchill Ethical Or Ethical
Great men are never good men. To be great is to be considerably above average in terms of ability,
quality or eminence. To the British, Sir Winston Churchill was indeed a great leader, and he is most
well known for rallying and leading the British during the Second World during his term as Prime
Minister of the United Kingdom, inspiring them with a belief in their victory and justice of their cause.
However, not all of his actions were ethically sound , or morally good or correct, possessing and
displaying moral virtue, as defined by the Oxford English Dictionary. Even though his intentions were
for the good of his people and country, the actions that Churchill took in trying to reach his final goal
were not always ethically sound. Therefore, I agree with the quote and in this essay I will be
evaluating the extent to which some of his decisions and actions were ethical or not.
One of the most controversial actions taken by Winston Churchill was the decision to bomb Berlin in
1940. When the German air force bombers attacked London against Hitler s orders, Churchill refused
to listen to Hitler s explanation and instead ordered a retaliatory attack on Berlin. He specifically
commanded the Royal Air Force (RAF) to focus their attacks on the civilian population and industrial

Churchill s actions were unethical as he took an extreme measure that caused the death of even more
innocent lives, just because of the prospect that he might have been able to force another country to
join his side out of

Gender, Gender And Gender Bias
Language and gender has become an increasingly popular topic of study over recent decades, most
likely due to the second wave of feminism in the 1960s and 70s. This can also be seen in the fact that
goals of linguistic studies shifted at this point, to not just look at grammatical differences between
males and females but to examine sexism and gender bias in language. The wording of such studies
becomes increasingly important in the modern era, as gender is now recognised as a socially
constructed concept of masculine and feminine features, based on biological sex but not limited to
that. Simone de Beauvoir (1952) believed that we gradually become more masculine or feminine but
we are not inherently gendered.
Language and gender was not developed as a serious subfield until the 1975 publication of Robin
Lakoff s Language and Woman s Place. Lakoff argued that women use particular language features in
order to deny themselves means of strong expression, which are stereotypically reserved for males.
These features include shows of uncertainty, such as hedging and indirect requests. Indirect requests
include making a statement in hope that it will elicit the desired response from someone else without
openly asking. Women s speech seems... to contain more instances of well , y know ... words that
convey the sense that the speaker is uncertain about what [she] is saying (Lakoff, 1975:53). Dale
Spender (1980) talks about gender power relations, but disagrees with Lakoff as she

Banning the Autobiography of Malcolm X
I feel that this novel was banned due to its content of drug use, sex, and crime. Although the novel is
not explicit in these areas the subject matter is still present. I also feel that this novel was censored due
to its portrayal of racism of both the white man against the black man and the black man against the
white man. White people are portrayed as devils and there is a constant theme of separation and
discrimination. This book holds ideals that most people may find digressive in the sense that
integration is almost no longer an issue, given that people tend to not question a black person s right to
be somewhere just as much as a white mans . Therefore when this book promotes the evilness of a
race and how separation is the only way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet as I continued reading there was still something about the book that I didn t like and I couldn t
understand. Then I read this paragraph from the book, And he taught us that a wife s ideal age was half
the man s age plus seven. He taught that women are physiologically ahead of men. Mr. Muhammad
taught that no marriage could succeed where the women did not look up with respect to the man. And
the man had to have something above and beyond the wife in order for her to be able to look to him
for psychological security (X 263 4). This quote explains that woman should meet a certain physical
requirement before the man can accept her in a marriage. The white people would only let a black man
into the same work place if they felt that they were better than him. This is paralleled in the statement
that a man should only take a woman they knew they were better than. Upon realizing my qualm with
this book I searched it find further evidence. It seems that some women love to be exploited. When
they are not exploited, they exploit the man.[...]Always every now and then, I had given her a hard
time, just to keep her in line. Every once in a while a women seems to need, in fact wants this, too.
But now, I would feel evil and slap her around worse than ever[...] (X 156). I m sure white people beat
and exploited black people just to keep them in line. The hypocrisy this book holds is so obvious it s
rarely noticed. In every way the white people abused

ISIS Vs. Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi
ISIS is a government because it is an organization that uses terror to control a group of people into
following their rules. One example is the religious police who work for ISIS. The religious police
control people by forcing women to cover their hair and faces in public, and having shop owners close
their shop during the time for Muslim prayers. In addition, there are different positions in this
organization. Abu Bakr al Baghdadi was the self proclaimed leader of ISIS, and he has a leadership
council, a cabinet, and local leaders that help him control his area. The area that ISIS controls was
gained by conquering other civilizations. Therefore, the state origin for ISIS is the force theory. ISIS is

An Intersectional Analysis Of The Feminine Mystique
An Intersectional Analysis of The Feminine Mystique When it was first published in 1963, Betty
Friedan s The Feminine Mystique was very popular among women in the 1960s, and the ideas
presented in the book were extremely influential to second wave, liberal feminism. In The Feminine
Mystique, Friedan discusses what she believes to be the myth of the happy, suburban housewife. She
also addresses the societal pressure for women to be feminine above all else, and gives examples as to
why this pressure is harmful. She highlights the ways in which women are taught by society that being
a wife and mother will make them happier than having a career. When educated women give up

She gives examples of the negative effects of the emphasis on conforming to these standards, such as
women refusing medical treatment out of fear of the medicine making them unfeminine, women
eating chalk in order to lose weight, and young girls wearing bras with padding made to look like
breasts. She shows through these examples that beauty standards are damaging to young women and
girls. However, she fails to mention that these standards of beauty and femininity are often racist as
well. The standards of attractiveness for women are often Eurocentric; European or white features are
considered more beautiful than any others. Light skin, blonde hair, blue eyes, and small button noses
are all examples of attractive, feminine traits that are more commonly found in white women. This
makes standards of femininity even more harmful to women of color, who learn from an early age that
they have to look white if they want to attain beauty and femininity. This is an important distinction
that Friedan does not address, likely because she is only addressing white women and their
relationship to

Pursuit Of Happyness Book And Movie Comparison
In The Pursuit of Happyness, both the movie and the story had to do with Christopher Gardner s
struggles through his life to get a well paying job while he tries to take care of his young son. The
director, Gabriele Muccino, made some choices that correlated pretty well with some of the events
that happened in the story. For example, in both the film and and the real life story, according to
Christophers Biography Christopher Gardner never knew his father, and lived with his beloved

life is kept the same pretty much in both the movie and the true story. In both the movie and the actual

he was not going to mistreat them and that he was always going to be there and would not go

Immigrants In The Philippines
Today, Filipinos represent the 4th largest immigrant group in the United States by country of origin,
after Mexico, India and China (Alchin, 2017). The Filipinos started immigrating to the United States
for various reasons such as political and poverty. They were able to through trading ships and after the
Spanish American War. Once here, they faced prejudice and discrimination, including in our own
state, Washington.
The first wave of immigrants from the Philippines to America was during the period when the country
was under Spanish rule and formed part of the Spanish East Indies. People were migrating through the
Spanish trading ships that were called Manila Galleons , these ran across the Pacific Ocean from
Manila to the port of Acapulco. The ships carried things like silk, perfume, spices, and other goods
from China to Mexico and California. In California seamen who had been forced to work for the
Spanish, would migrate to North America. In 1763, Filipinos made their first permanent settlement in
Louisiana, these Filipinos were called Manila Men (Alchin, 2017). Another wave was impacted by the
Spanish American War. The Philippines came under the control of the United States of America in
1898 following the Spanish American War which lasted three and a half months on April 25, 1898 to
August 12, 1898. The 1899 Treaty of Paris ended this war where Spain sold the Philippine Islands to
the United States for $20,000,000 (Alchin, 2017). After this the

Zeus Personality
Zeus was considered to be the leader of the Olympian gods of Mount Olympus. He was the god of the
sky and thunder. He had many powers but the most significant was the power to wield lightning bolts.
He could hurl lightning bolts at people who defied him or other gods who he was displeased with. He

Zeus most significant and well known power was the ability to hold lightning bolts. He could throw

The worst part was, I had no idea at the time that throat clearing was a social cue used to get attention.
That was the LAST thing I wanted. I was embarrassed enough as it was.

Ian Fleming and On Her Majesty s Secret Service
You can always tell the power of an incredible artist by the amount of people influenced by their

book that could entertain them all. Risk Taking is common theme that comes up in many, if not most
of his novels. By looking at On Her Majesty s Secret Service, one can see that Ian Fleming included
the theme of risk taking because he himself enjoyed and experienced plenty of this in his own life.

Personal And Physical Consequences Of Amed Use
Personal and Physical Consequences of AMED Use: A Survey Questionnaire LYLE RIGHETTI
43250750 Abstract Our study s aim was to investigate the personal and physical consequences
associated with alcohol mixed with energy drinks (AmED) in comparison to alcohol use alone. A web
based format for the online version of the Alcohol Timeline Followback (TLFB) was completed by
876 students during their second week tutorial of Introduction to Psychology 105. Of these students,
625 were used for the study as they had reported drinking alcohol within a 28 day period. Although no

This type of behaviour has become increasing popular among university and college students due to
the excessive marketing of energy drinks and alcohol (Matthew Cronin Craig S. Wright, 2005) Recent
studies concerning college students suggest heavy episodic drinking continues to be a major health
problem that is associated with legal, academic and health problems. The consumption of AmEDs has
been receiving increased research attention due to its association with heavy drinking (Lindsey Varvil
Weld, Miesha Marzell, Rob Turrisi, Kimberly A. Mallett Michael J. Cleveland, 2013). This recent
phenomenon is concerning researchers as they discover the related consequences of AmED use.
Researchers use the Anticipated Effects of Alcohol Scale (AEAS) in order to measure a
comprehensive sampling that varied in positive and negative effects, as well as high or low arousal in
order to identify plausible outcomes of drinking (Meghan E. Morean, Teresa A. Treat William R.
Corbin, 2012). It has been estimated that almost half of 18 24 year olds in Australia have consumed
AmEDs and 10% consume them weekly. 90% of adults, 83% of 13 17 year olds and 63% of 6 12 year
olds consume caffeine daily. Caffeine is naturally occurring in drinks such as coffee and tea, as well as
in foods such as chocolate, but it is also a food additive in carbonated beverages and energy drinks

BENNER S THEORY FROM NOVICE TO EXPERT AND ITS
ROLE IN APRN PRACTICE
Gagandeep Sandhu
Samuel Merritt University
Patricia Benner s theory From Novice to Expert is based on the concept of nurses developing skills
and understanding of the patients care overtime which comes from their continued efforts towards
trying to achieve strong education and personal experience. The theory explains the five levels of
nursing experience: novice, advanced beginner, competent, proficient, and expert. Starting from
novice where they don t have any experience and simply follow instructions, nurses finally reach the
expert level transitioning through different levels where they rely on their experience rather than
principles or guidelines to connect situations and determine actions. Their performance is fluid,
flexible, and highly proficient at this level. Benner stresses on skills through experience as a
prerequisite for becoming an expert nurse (Nursing world, 2013).
Benner s theory gives a hope to new nurses and nurse practitioners in a way that experience brings
expertise. Benner emphasizes on professional growth within the organization with increased
experience. This theory provides a useful structure for practice development and marks out the
difference between the functioning of novice and experienced nurses (Lyneham, Parkinson Denholm
(2009). It emphasizes on the power of expertise and empowers the nurse to expand her knowledge. It
validates the clinical

Pericles Foreign Policy Essay
You may not know who he is, but Pericles was by far one of the greatest leaders in history. Pericles s
methods of handling foreign policy were unusual, but very effective and he was able to save many

and punishment so that crime was unknown during his rule. Pericles handled social issues very well
making drastic changes to the corrupt system of government and replacing it with better ways to lead.
Pericles was one of the greatest leaders of his time.
First off, Pericles s methods of handling foreign policy were unusual, but effective. If Pericles had the
choice between war, or peace, he would generally pick war. This is shown to be true because at a
certain point during his rule their was two wars at once. This shows that he would rather conquer cities
than be at peace with them. He was a very smart and strategic man which allowed him to save many
lives on the battlefield. At one point, he saved an entire city using his unique strategy. This shows that

If his master is happy, so is Conseil. Ironic to his name, in French conseil actually means counsel,
which means to advise. Most of us who read the book knows that Conseil is basically there to serve
Aronnax, his master, not to advise him. Also if you were wondering, Conseil is a person, not a dog.
Sometimes, Conseils personality is hunours, like when he tries to eat a fish that supposed stings him
out of revenge, even though it tastes horrible But other times, they reveal a passion that you would not
expect to find in a man who sometimes acted like a robot. For example, his reaction to the cannibal
attack on a island that they were temporily stranded on with the Nautilus due to low tide. While he did
compare the savages to monkeys, he also makes some surprisingly intelligent statements, such as
when Aronnax states that savages are bad because they are cannible and Conseil replied:
One can be a cannibal and a good man, just as one can be a glutton and honest. The one does not
exclude the other. 1
This quote shows that Conseil is very intelligent and is able to see outside the box .

writer s craft of perspective to develop the characterization of the three protagonists. Wilson,
Margaret, and Macomber s characterization develops through multiple perspectives and techniques
that help to create a consistently negative tone. Through reading this story, readers can better
understand how to view other people s actions and their own.
In Hemingway s short story, it is evident to readers that Wilson, despite being a professional hunter, is

his acceptance and normalization of sleeping with married women. On page nineteen, the text states
that, He, Robert Wilson, carried a double size cot on safari to accommodate any windfalls he might

Wilson is. Not only does he commit shameful acts and justify himself, but he does it on a regular basis

The Effects Of Prosopagnosia And Its Effects On Human...
Prosopagnosia Prosopagnosia, also known as face blindness, is a form of visual agnosia characterized
by an inability to recognize faces. Usually those with Prosopagnosia are able to see the features on a
person s appearance with little difficulty; however, it is the retention and synthetization of those
images that challenges them. Many people also report deficits in other aspects of face processing, such
as judging age or gender, recognizing certain emotional expressions, or following the direction of a
person s eye gaze. Currently, scientists have yet to come to a consensus on the actual cause of the
disease, but many suspect it is linked to extensive damage of the occipital and temporal lobes.
Presently, one speculation is that Prosopagnosia is connected to the fusiform gyrus, an area of the
brain located on the inferior/median temporal lobe. As found by researchers, the fusiform gyrus is
thought to constitute a core visual representation system for faces, in part because they show face
selectivity and face repetition suppression (Furl, N., Garrido, L., Dolan, R. J., Driver, J., Duchaine, B.,
2011, 1723 1740). However, looking at recent fMRI studies, scientists are questioning whether these
conditions and damages to the fusiform gyrus relate to face processing skills at all (Furl, N. et al,
2011). Due to this uncertainty another theory has evolved. As stated by Gainotti (2010, 763 766),
prosopagnosia is due to disruption of purely visual entities, the face

Alicia Donovan s My Life Essay
Alicia Donovan leans causally against the railing of her grandmother s porch, smoldering cigarette in
hand, watching the cars and passerbys going up and down Mount Pleasant Avenue in Providence. A
beat up Chevrolet with blasting rap music slows down and Donovan exchanges good natured insults
with the four or five boys inside. Teasingly, she makes and obscene gesture and the car takes off up the
street, leaving the air thick with the distinct smell of muffler smoke and the fading strains of DMX. As
they disappear out of sight, she shakes her head and chuckles slightly, obviously struck by some funny
thought that she s not about to share. Watching this nonchalant blonde, no one would ever guess she
carries the stigma of a childhood marked my tragedy and trauma. Alicia looks right at home in front of
the shabby, grey tenement which she shares with her grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. Unlike
most of the girls today, she s not trying to be trendy or fashionable. She has on a plain white T shirt,
worn from unsuccessful attempts to get out its numerous stains, and a pair ofjeans which are slightly
ripped in the knees. Turning her attention away from the view, she runs her hands through her tousled
hair and drops into one of the porch s slightly rusted aluminum chairs. Well let s do this, she says with
a good natured shrug, so whatcha got for me? Alicia wipes the trademark grin off her face and gains a

Hillary vs. Tenzing: To the top of Mount. Everest!
Sir Edmund Hillary s, View from the Summit and Tenzing Norgay s, The Dream Comes True were
very interesting articles on Mount Everest. Climbing though the chilling Himalayas, they had to
overcome difficult obstacles. In each of their essays, they have some things they agreed upon, and
some they did not. Each perspective brings out a sharp contrast in the personality of both of these
men. They did share several similarities like a few of the obstacles they had to overcome. Two of these
obstacles were the navigation of the steep section also known as a crag and the clotting of ice around

In Tenzing s account it was as if he had 2 different works in the one story. For a few paragraphs he
would talk about the climb with a voice filled with awe and respect for the place he was blessed to
walk through. He would then talk about a fact that Hillary wrongfully stated like the height of the crag
and in one instance where he got into talking about who got to the top first his tone became very
annoyed. Hillary s account was filled with excitement and daring moments of heroism like when the
piece of ice slid down and he almost lost is footing and when he helped Tenzing clear the ice out of
the oxygen mask and when he supposedly pulled Tenzing up a 40 foot crag which Tenzing considered
only a 15 foot crag. Hillary s account could be described as bragging and exaggeration of events.
Why do fame and fortune cause people to lie about their experiences? Sir Edmund Hillary and
Tenzing Norgay both wrote essays containing versions of their journey to the South Summit of Mount

they did share several similarities like a few of the obstacles they had to overcome. In Hillary s View

A landscape painter tended to be a recluse, an individualist, and a Daoist (Morton and Lewis 2005).
These artists thought of landscape painting as the grandest and most satisfying way to represent nature
as a whole, to feel a sense of communion with nature, and to know oneself to be part of an orderly
cosmos (Morton and Lewis 2005). Thus, one can see the implications of landscape painting lay not
just in its beauty and simplicity, but also in its spiritual connection with Nature, and thus had wide
appeal. The point of view in landscape painting was also of paramount importance. The Chinese
artists understood that Western artists took in scenes from five or six feet from the ground. Chinese
artists worked from a raised viewpoint, so that they are not bogged done by small details in the front

family where dancing is just a usual thing. My sister however, danced her whole life and even became
so serious that she competed at the highest level in South Africa. I was more into physical fitness, but I
still loved music and the hip hop scene. The older I got, the more inquisitive I became and that s when
my love for the hip hop culture expanded.
First of all, like any physical activity you need to warm up. Many people think that dancing is easy or
you won t get injured because there is no form of contact but they are seriously mistaken. To start off,
you need to choose your music. Choosing music that you are familiar with or that makes your feet
want to move on their own will be very beneficial. I always challenge myself by playing music from
other cultures to make up my own moves. It is very important to feel the beat in the song, so if you

I remember the day when I started learning hip hop and other types of dancing and how insecure I
was. I would always lock my door and play music. Whatever would come to my head I would do in
front of the mirror and this really helped me work on my weaknesses. Being alone with nobody
laughing or judging me really built up my confidence and with this I became a better dancer. I
invented my own style which was unique, and people could match it with my personality. Dancing is
not easy work, so practice should become a

Why Small Firms Having An Understanding Of The...
Within this essay I will be discussing the possibility of small firms having an understanding of the
characteristics of international business and not just only the large firms. This is because small
businesses are always looked down and people have a misconception that only larger firms choose to
go globally.
Every business needs to have a mission and objectives and need to know what affects them
environmentally and within their organisation. If they understand what is happening within the
organisation, they can proceed to strategy formulation and can start planning and operate.
According to the journalist of New York Times, Thomas Friedman, international businesses are a set
of interrelated processes rather than a single process and call it a flattening process . This means that
countries like China and India are able to become contributors in international business par with the
richer industrialized countries. It is a commercial transaction that crosses the borders of more than two
nations. In everyday life, imports, goods or services that are purchased abroad and brought into a
country surround us. The same can be said about exports, where countries abroad will be using your
nation s goods and services.
International business is incredibly crucial as it contains a huge and growing percentage of the world s
over all business. It is not something that can be ignored, because almost every company; whether the
size of it, is affected by international events and its

Analysis Of Rolf Strootman, Courts And Elites In The...
In Rolf Strootman s, Courts and Elites in the Hellenistic Empires, he discusses the Kingdoms of the
Hellenistic era, there courts, how kingdoms were developed, the importance of military might,
emphasis of the king as a war hero, king viewed as a liberator of cities and the development of
diplomatic relations with the cities that are being governed by the kings.1 Strootman looks at three
kingdoms to explain how the kingdoms in this empire function, they are the Ptolemies, Antigonids,
and the Seleukids. In these empires, Strootman explains how the kingdoms were mostly nomadic, in
the way that the court would constantly move around and follow the king where ever he went.2 So
Strootman makes the case that the courts were not defined by a ... Show more content on

Kingdoms in this era were subject to imperial claims (other than by the emperor), making the role of
emperor not absolute and in constant struggle to maintain control over, through negotiations or
confrontations.5
In this book, Strootman elaborates on how there are two essential diagrams for exposing political
assertiveness during the Hellenistic period shedding light on the function of imperialism, the first
describes the court as a political structure used to assert power but this idea is rivaled with the
importance of the theater and the important role it played in to support the role of the king and his
court against the courts of others. The other is describing capital and cities as tools of a power play
made by those of power (the king and his courtiers).6 These arguments as Strootman exposes to the
reader that based off of the ideas of Norbert Elias, Jurgen von Kruedener and Charles Tilly, we are
able to better understand the function of court during this era.7 Kruedener as mentioned by Strootman
explains how the role of favor with the king was vital to the attainment of power within the kingdom,
disbursement of land holdings, duties of offices and this was all done through exposure before the
king through the instrument of court. Although the king and his court

The Everlasting Dispute Between Montague And Capulet
An everlasting conflict between two families, Montague and Capulet. What started this inclining depth
of mutual hatred, and can it still be considered as the reason for their bickering. The effects of this
dispute are even more widespread today, leaving more and more people wondering of the cause. Upon
interviewing both lord and lady Capulet, as well as Montague, we believe we have found some
answers as to this seemingly inherent disposition. It seems to be that in the Montagues case, the
Capulets have stolen a very precious family heirloom, which they have hidden somewhere to deny
such a consensus, pleading innocence in the matter, in the instance that they are inquired. The
Capulets boast that long ago in a championship fencing match, a

Comedogenic Rating Essay
This past holiday season I was lucky enough to receive a gift card to Sephora, which meant I had
some choices to make. After an embarrassing amount of research I ended up buying the Josie Maran
Whimsical Wonder Argan Oil Skincare Essentials set. While mine is a bit different from the one
online, I am extremely happy with my purchase! Every winter I try to incorporate oils in my skin care
routine to combat dryness. However after last winter s conditions I decided to amp up my routine this
year. I had used Josie Maran s cleansing oil in the past and really liked it, so I was hoping this set
would leave my feeling the same way. My essentials set came with a moisturizing serum, a daily
moisturizer with SPF, a intensive creamy oil , whipped body butter, and 100% pure argan oil. Since all
of these products were in mini sizes, I used all of them up in a matter of weeks, which left my skin
soft, glowing and healthy looking. I can t help but believe that s its the argan oil found in all Josie
Maran products that made this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What exactly is a comedogenic rating? Basically it is a rating on a scale from 0 to 5 that s suppose to
tell you how poor clogging an ingredient will be. Because argan oil is commonly used for skin care,
its important to know that the oleic acid (highest concentration fatty acid) found within the compound
causes it to have a decently high comedogenic rating. This means that if you are prone to acne or
clogged pores easily, maybe keep argan oil off your face. However some sources have sited that argan
oil can be beneficial for acne because it keeps the skin nourished and moisturized, so trying it out will
be the best way to know if it s suited for your skin! It is also good to note that comedogenic rating
have been under a lot of speculation lately due to the source of the ratings, comedogenic rates are not

An Overview Of Parkinson Disease
An Overview of Parkinson Disease Parkinson disease (PD) is a condition consisting of many
unanswered questions. What causes it? Is it a genetic disorder? How will an individual know if they
will be diagnosed with it in their lifetime? The list of enquiries one might present is endless. However,
before even attempting to answer any questions, it is essential to understand the disease as a whole. In
order to do so, grasping basic background information as well as data on PD is necessary. Following
that, discussing material regarding the science behind the disease will provide a deeper understanding
when examining the subsequent etiologies, signs, and symptoms. From a historical perspective, PD
was first described in 1817 by James ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to understand the possible etiology and the signs and symptoms, it is important to first
recognize the science of PD and what happens neurologically. Nolden, Tartavoulle, and Porche (2014)
explain that the brain structures affected by the disease are known as the substantia nigra and the basal
ganglia. The role of the basal ganglia is to provide control of fine motor movements. What happens
with PD, is there is a loss of dopamine producing neurons from the substantia nigra which causes a
deficiency in dopamine levels. Without a sufficient amount of dopamine, there are not enough
chemical messages being transmitted to initiate, control, and balance movement of the target muscles.
It is worth noting though, that dopamine levels decrease naturally as one ages, so symptoms could
become more aggressive and prevalent the older an individual gets. Fallon et al. (2015) explains that
the dying cells contain Lewy bodies, defined as protein aggregates, which allow the disease to be
identified. However, it is still undetermined what all factors cause the degeneration of those brain cells
and PD as a whole. PD is a disease of mostly unknown etiology; however, there have been links to
various factors from environmental influences to genetics (Galifianakis Ghazinouri, 2014). First of all,
it is necessary to mention that the suspected environmental factors are hard to come by for they are
merely risk factors. Nonetheless, they are still important to

The Importance Of Slavery In Mansfield Park
Mansfield Park is an interesting tale that involves the clashing ideals of the upper and lower classes.
One could say that it is based in racial tension and imperialism, and many would agree. George E.
Boulukos, author of The Politics of Silence: Mansfield Park and the Amelioration of Slavery, believes
that a one of the primary conflicts of Mansfield Park surrounds the legality and morality of the slave
trade in England. Boulukos presents that the amelioration of slaves, or in layman s terms, the
improving of conditions for slaves, was a key focus of conflict between Fanny and her Uncle. The
context of amelioration makes sense of the one scene in which the slave trade is discussed in
Mansfield Park. Because Fanny s discussion with her uncle is followed by a dead silence, her
reference to the slave trade has been taken as a reminder of the Bertrams shameful dependence on a
business they would prefer to pass over in silence. (Boulukos362) Mansfield Park was written by Jane
Austen, and this scandalous novel is still making a splash in today s world. In 1999, Austen fans were
treated with a film by Patricia Rozema that bears the same name and premise as Mansfield Park. The
film, presents the conflicting thoughts on slavery through the vocalization and arguing of two
characters. In the film, as Fanny is being taken to Mansfield Park she sees a slave ship bearing black
cargo. She is puzzled by this and the driver explains that a doctor may bring home a dark play thing

  • 2. High Fat Diet Bad For Mental Health Introduction For this assignment I am going to analyze the popular press article High fat diet bad for mental health, may lead to depression featured in Tech Times Magazine. During which I will examine their claim against the actual, scientific data in the Biological Psychiatry Journal. This analysis will provide insight on how popular press articles may misinterpret a study and spread false information to the public. Summary: Tech Times Magazine In the article the author, James Maynard, tried to interpret a study published by Biological Psychiatry Journal on Obese type Gut Microbiota Induce Neurobehavioral Changes in the Absence of Obesity. Maynard found that mice from the study were fed different types of foods: one high in fat and the other in normal chow diet. The rats that were fed the fat enriched diet showed some symptoms of anxiety and forgetfulness, while the other rats were seemingly okay. In these findings, Maynard makes and Association claim that High fat diets can cause Depression and other psychological risks. The article does not advocate for a change in diet, but does not give any reference to other possible causes to the lab results. Summary: Biological Psychiatry Journal The study intended to look at the gut microbiome that is naturally present within the gut. The research team of the Louisiana State University designed an experiment with lab rats to predict how the manipulation of the gut microbiome with a high fat diet would affect their brain ... • 3. Slavoj Zizek Essay In The Pervert s Guide to Ideology, Slavoj Zizek explains his analytical theories about the ideology behind multiple films. His most radical ideological explanation seems to be the one regarding Scorsese s The Last Temptation of Jesus Christ. When Zizek embarks on the mission to explain to the viewer what the theories behind the film are, he shows some of the most gruesome and emotional scenes of the film. However, although his theories seem almost too complex to understand, they play a role in exploring the fine line between Christianity and Atheism. Now, one might be questioning if the line between these two counterparts is even fine, but Zizek clearly draws for the viewer the thinnest line possible as they try to follow the complex path of his argument of what the film truly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet, despite his explanations, Zizek enters into a paradoxical realm of religious beliefs that becomes more confusing as the film progresses. What does Zizek mean when he claims that Christianity is more atheist than Atheism? Can something be more related to its counterpart than the counterpart itself? Such a question can only be explored by examining the progression of Zizek s argument. For Zizek, such a question is true when applied to the Christianity displayed in the film. If Atheism is the disbelief in God, then the Christianity in the film is inherently more Atheist because it completely disintegrates God, the Big Other. The film begins the process of revealing Christianity s Atheist characteristics with the idea of hysteria. Slavoj Zizek proposes the idea of hysteria playing a role in the life of Jesus Christ. He defines hysteria as the way we question our social, symbolic identity. He begins analyzing his own definition by explaining how it plays a role in the character of Jesus Christ in the film The Last Temptation of Christ. Zizek also explores different dimensions of the word as he attaches it to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Ice Age From 2002 to 2016, the Ice Age movie franchise, produced by Blue Sky Studios, has capitalized on events during the Pleistocene Epoch period when massive warming occurred in the earth. Even though these movies are entertaining, they depict a view of how wildlife, plant life, and the earth s environment drastically changed, albeit for the worse. For the most part, the release of carbon dioxide is the causal effect of the death and destruction of the planet as it was known at that time. There has been an ongoing debate as to the direct reason for the atmosphere s chemical composition, including the release of harmful gases. The article, Melting of massive ice lid resulted in huge release of carbon dioxide at the end of the Ice Age, written by Jenny Roberts (www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/01/160104163203.htm), suggests the melting of sea ice caused the release of large amounts of carbon dioxide rather than the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though there are unchangeable factors such as the ice age, there are variables such as driving cars, burning coal, and generating electricity, an illustration of the human footprints, which demands alteration, if not elimination. People should question their actions, especially, if they want a clean environment for the baby that is born today. Ice Age, the franchise, hilariously illustrates the end of the ice age with characters that have realized that they are, for the most part, one of a kind because their counterparts have become extinct. These animated shows did not address the reasons for the meltdown, even though they addressed many of the effects. Interestingly enough, it appears that the earth s warming is caused by the release of carbon dioxide, and the melting of the sea s ice is a significant culprit of this ... • 5. Essay about Phar Mor Inc Case Study Sean Russi The Case of Phar Mor Inc ACCT 525 October 31, 2012 Case Summary The case of Phar Mor Inc was one of the biggest pre Enron frauds that have been uncovered. Phar Mor Inc established in 1982 Phar Mor was a small little known discount drugstore. Phar Mor became well known for offering medications at a 25 40% discount rate compared to your normal pharmacy store prices. Phar Mor s first six years of existence seemingly were fraud free and saw the company grow at a decent pace for their field. By 1987 Phar Mor almost had 100 stores and was expanding even more rapidly at this point. The first hint of fraud came up and was discovered being a billing type scheme ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the time of discovery Phar Mor was overstated by over a $150 million dollars and had no other choice but to file bankruptcy. Could SOX have prevented the Phar Mor fraud? How? Which specific sections of SOX? During the time period that the Phar Mor fraud took place it was one of the most elaborate frauds of the 1980 s so could SOX prevented the fraud? The answer is debatable because of the extent that Phar Mor went to cover up the fraud it may have taken several years still to uncover it however, in the long run I do believe SOX would have prevented the fraud from lasting almost a full decade without being detected, and would not have been uncovered had it not been for a whistle blower. I think the most important sections of SOX that would have helped uncover the fraud at Phar Mor are as follows Section 203 Which deals with the auditors and any possible conflict of interest if they had worked with Phar Mor in the last calendar year they would have not been able to be the same auditors doing final audits of the company. Section 206 Which states that any auditor who had previously worked for the firm and now works for Phar Mor would cause the firm to not be able to have Phar Mor as a client. Phar Mor had 3 former employees of the audit firm who worked for them which allowed them the knowledge to know that the

Even though he name is not exactly Walt Disney and the title of her business is DisneyHartford , the fact that she still included Disney in her title is a problem. When you think of the word Disney , you automatically think of children s entertainment; as a result, this goes to show that consumers typically link the word Disney to a specific origin. Goodwin secretly owning properly without disclosing this information with other people or students to the least is a little sketchy. However, I guess if they legally do own this real property than Sophie has to give it back to them. The legal system protects the right to own, acquire, protect and divest of real and personal property (pg. 235). If they have never sold this properly it still belongs to Goodwin. It was her fault that she purchased this property without researching it. Sophia is also at fault for purchasing real property without getting a title that the properly belonged to her. Ownership rights are transferred by titles (pg. 245) Even though the property seemed abandoned; no one technically relinquished new ownership towards it so it still belonged to Goodwin. Sophia got herself involved with a scammer. Sophia should contact Attorney Sleaze and sue him for selling her property that was already owned by somebody else. The theme is kept vivid by having the characters wanting to believe in a dream of some kind. The title, Of Mice and Men, comes from a line of the poet Robert Burn. The original line is The best laid schemes o mice an men gang aft aglay. Which, in modern English, translates to: The best laid schemes of mice and men often go away. Therefore, the efficacy of 5 ALA/PDT to induce DNA damage, and release chromatin during mitosis, was detected by MN test. When MCF 7 and HepG2 cell lines were treated with 5 ALA/PDT at 633nm, the ratio of micronuclei was increased significantly in comparison to non treated groups. The Impacts Of Globalization In China Globalisation refers to the integration between different countries and economies and the increased impact of international influences on all aspects of life and economic activity . China is the world s second largest economy and is the fastest growing economy over the past decades, hence known as an emerging economy, by sustaining an average rate of growth of around 10% GDP p.a (2014). Hence, with the transition from a purely planned to a market driven or free market economy has also facilitated progress in development, trade and increases in per capita income paving the way for poverty reduction. The impacts of globalisation have enabled the Chinese government to adopt various strategies in response, and consequently have had significant impacts on the Chinese economy to promote _______ and _______. China has sustained a high rate of average annual growth in real GDP 10.1% between 1998 and 2008. The growth rate peaked at 14.2% in 2007 but slowed to 9.2% due to the impact of the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) on China s exports and inflows of foreign investments. Hence, in 2015, China s growth was 6.9%, falling to 6.7% in 2016 and forecast at 6.7% in 2017. • 12. Winston Churchill Ethical Or Ethical Great men are never good men. To be great is to be considerably above average in terms of ability, quality or eminence. To the British, Sir Winston Churchill was indeed a great leader, and he is most well known for rallying and leading the British during the Second World during his term as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, inspiring them with a belief in their victory and justice of their cause. However, not all of his actions were ethically sound , or morally good or correct, possessing and displaying moral virtue, as defined by the Oxford English Dictionary. Even though his intentions were for the good of his people and country, the actions that Churchill took in trying to reach his final goal were not always ethically sound. Therefore, I agree with the quote and in this essay I will be evaluating the extent to which some of his decisions and actions were ethical or not. One of the most controversial actions taken by Winston Churchill was the decision to bomb Berlin in 1940. When the German air force bombers attacked London against Hitler s orders, Churchill refused to listen to Hitler s explanation and instead ordered a retaliatory attack on Berlin. • 13. Gender, Gender And Gender Bias Language and gender has become an increasingly popular topic of study over recent decades, most likely due to the second wave of feminism in the 1960s and 70s. This can also be seen in the fact that goals of linguistic studies shifted at this point, to not just look at grammatical differences between males and females but to examine sexism and gender bias in language. The wording of such studies becomes increasingly important in the modern era, as gender is now recognised as a socially constructed concept of masculine and feminine features, based on biological sex but not limited to that. Simone de Beauvoir (1952) believed that we gradually become more masculine or feminine but we are not inherently gendered. Language and gender was not developed as a serious subfield until the 1975 publication of Robin Lakoff s Language and Woman s Place. Lakoff argued that women use particular language features in order to deny themselves means of strong expression, which are stereotypically reserved for males. These features include shows of uncertainty, such as hedging and indirect requests. Indirect requests include making a statement in hope that it will elicit the desired response from someone else without openly asking. Women s speech seems... to contain more instances of well , y know ... words that convey the sense that the speaker is uncertain about what [she] is saying (Lakoff, 1975:53). Although the novel is not explicit in these areas the subject matter is still present. I also feel that this novel was censored due to its portrayal of racism of both the white man against the black man and the black man against the white man. White people are portrayed as devils and there is a constant theme of separation and discrimination. This book holds ideals that most people may find digressive in the sense that integration is almost no longer an issue, given that people tend to not question a black person s right to be somewhere just as much as a white mans . Yet as I continued reading there was still something about the book that I didn t like and I couldn t understand. Then I read this paragraph from the book, And he taught us that a wife s ideal age was half the man s age plus seven. He taught that women are physiologically ahead of men. Mr. Muhammad taught that no marriage could succeed where the women did not look up with respect to the man. And the man had to have something above and beyond the wife in order for her to be able to look to him for psychological security (X 263 4). This quote explains that woman should meet a certain physical requirement before the man can accept her in a marriage. The white people would only let a black man into the same work place if they felt that they were better than him. This is paralleled in the statement that a man should only take a woman they knew they were better than. Upon realizing my qualm with this book I searched it find further evidence. It seems that some women love to be exploited. When they are not exploited, they exploit the man.[...]Always every now and then, I had given her a hard time, just to keep her in line. Every once in a while a women seems to need, in fact wants this, too. But now, I would feel evil and slap her around worse than ever[...] (X 156). An Intersectional Analysis Of The Feminine Mystique An Intersectional Analysis of The Feminine Mystique When it was first published in 1963, Betty Friedan s The Feminine Mystique was very popular among women in the 1960s, and the ideas presented in the book were extremely influential to second wave, liberal feminism. In The Feminine Mystique, Friedan discusses what she believes to be the myth of the happy, suburban housewife. She also addresses the societal pressure for women to be feminine above all else, and gives examples as to why this pressure is harmful. She gives examples of the negative effects of the emphasis on conforming to these standards, such as women refusing medical treatment out of fear of the medicine making them unfeminine, women eating chalk in order to lose weight, and young girls wearing bras with padding made to look like breasts. She shows through these examples that beauty standards are damaging to young women and girls. However, she fails to mention that these standards of beauty and femininity are often racist as well. The standards of attractiveness for women are often Eurocentric; European or white features are considered more beautiful than any others. Light skin, blonde hair, blue eyes, and small button noses are all examples of attractive, feminine traits that are more commonly found in white women. This makes standards of femininity even more harmful to women of color, who learn from an early age that they have to look white if they want to attain beauty and femininity. The ships carried things like silk, perfume, spices, and other goods from China to Mexico and California. In California seamen who had been forced to work for the Spanish, would migrate to North America. In 1763, Filipinos made their first permanent settlement in Louisiana, these Filipinos were called Manila Men (Alchin, 2017). Another wave was impacted by the Spanish American War. The Philippines came under the control of the United States of America in 1898 following the Spanish American War which lasted three and a half months on April 25, 1898 to August 12, 1898. The theory explains the five levels of nursing experience: novice, advanced beginner, competent, proficient, and expert. Starting from novice where they don t have any experience and simply follow instructions, nurses finally reach the expert level transitioning through different levels where they rely on their experience rather than principles or guidelines to connect situations and determine actions. Their performance is fluid, flexible, and highly proficient at this level. Benner stresses on skills through experience as a prerequisite for becoming an expert nurse (Nursing world, 2013). • 28. The Effects Of Prosopagnosia And Its Effects On Human... Prosopagnosia Prosopagnosia, also known as face blindness, is a form of visual agnosia characterized by an inability to recognize faces. Usually those with Prosopagnosia are able to see the features on a person s appearance with little difficulty; however, it is the retention and synthetization of those images that challenges them. Many people also report deficits in other aspects of face processing, such as judging age or gender, recognizing certain emotional expressions, or following the direction of a person s eye gaze. Currently, scientists have yet to come to a consensus on the actual cause of the disease, but many suspect it is linked to extensive damage of the occipital and temporal lobes. Presently, one speculation is that Prosopagnosia is connected to the fusiform gyrus, an area of the brain located on the inferior/median temporal lobe. As found by researchers, the fusiform gyrus is thought to constitute a core visual representation system for faces, in part because they show face selectivity and face repetition suppression (Furl, N., Garrido, L., Dolan, R. J., Driver, J., Duchaine, B., 2011, 1723 1740). However, looking at recent fMRI studies, scientists are questioning whether these conditions and damages to the fusiform gyrus relate to face processing skills at all (Furl, N. et al, 2011). Due to this uncertainty another theory has evolved. As stated by Gainotti (2010, 763 766), prosopagnosia is due to disruption of purely visual entities, the face ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When one observes the progression of visual arts through the Song Dynasty, landscape painting established itself as the most prevalent and important of the multitude of forms in this genre. A landscape painter tended to be a recluse, an individualist, and a Daoist (Morton and Lewis 2005). These artists thought of landscape painting as the grandest and most satisfying way to represent nature as a whole, to feel a sense of communion with nature, and to know oneself to be part of an orderly cosmos (Morton and Lewis 2005). Thus, one can see the implications of landscape painting lay not just in its beauty and simplicity, but also in its spiritual connection with Nature, and thus had wide appeal. The point of view in landscape painting was also of paramount importance. The Chinese artists understood that Western artists took in scenes from five or six feet from the ground. Chinese artists worked from a raised viewpoint, so that they are not bogged done by small details in the front and get a better sense of the whole scene (Morton and Lewis 2005). Every part of the image that is created has its own innate interest, and yet it all comes together and works well as a whole (Morton and Lewis 2005). It is clear that landscape painting was a cherished and important art form in Song Dynasty culture. Dramatic arts became an essential and esteemed form of entertainment during the Song Dynasty. The Chinese theater ran the gamut of all possible kinds of play or composition. A testament to the Song s work toward variety in entertainment the drama made quite a feature of short farcical scenes, acrobatic turns and satirical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hip hop comes in a form of art where you can express yourself with no limitations and no rules. Having the ability to break free of the real world and to just indulge in that exact moment is breathtaking. There is really more too hip hop dancing than people actually know. Dancing in general has to do with a culture and it brings people together in more ways than one. I personally come from a family where dancing is just a usual thing. My sister however, danced her whole life and even became so serious that she competed at the highest level in South Africa. I was more into physical fitness, but I still loved music and the hip hop scene. The older I got, the more inquisitive I became and that s when my love for the hip hop culture expanded. First of all, like any physical activity you need to warm up. Many people think that dancing is easy or you won t get injured because there is no form of contact but they are seriously mistaken. To start off, you need to choose your music. Choosing music that you are familiar with or that makes your feet want to move on their own will be very beneficial. Within this essay I will be discussing the possibility of small firms having an understanding of the characteristics of international business and not just only the large firms. This is because small businesses are always looked down and people have a misconception that only larger firms choose to go globally. Every business needs to have a mission and objectives and need to know what affects them environmentally and within their organisation. If they understand what is happening within the organisation, they can proceed to strategy formulation and can start planning and operate. According to the journalist of New York Times, Thomas Friedman, international businesses are a set of interrelated processes rather than a single process and call it a flattening process . This means that countries like China and India are able to become contributors in international business par with the richer industrialized countries. It is a commercial transaction that crosses the borders of more than two nations. In everyday life, imports, goods or services that are purchased abroad and brought into a country surround us. The same can be said about exports, where countries abroad will be using your nation s goods and services. In these empires, Strootman explains how the kingdoms were mostly nomadic, in the way that the court would constantly move around and follow the king where ever he went.2 So Strootman makes the case that the courts were not defined by a ... Kingdoms in this era were subject to imperial claims (other than by the emperor), making the role of emperor not absolute and in constant struggle to maintain control over, through negotiations or confrontations.5 In this book, Strootman elaborates on how there are two essential diagrams for exposing political assertiveness during the Hellenistic period shedding light on the function of imperialism, the first describes the court as a political structure used to assert power but this idea is rivaled with the importance of the theater and the important role it played in to support the role of the king and his court against the courts of others. The other is describing capital and cities as tools of a power play made by those of power (the king and his courtiers).6 These arguments as Strootman exposes to the reader that based off of the ideas of Norbert Elias, Jurgen von Kruedener and Charles Tilly, we are able to better understand the function of court during this era.7 Kruedener as mentioned by Strootman explains how the role of favor with the king was vital to the attainment of power within the kingdom, disbursement of land holdings, duties of offices and this was all done through exposure before the king through the instrument of court. From a historical perspective, PD was first described in 1817 by James ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to understand the possible etiology and the signs and symptoms, it is important to first recognize the science of PD and what happens neurologically. Nolden, Tartavoulle, and Porche (2014) explain that the brain structures affected by the disease are known as the substantia nigra and the basal ganglia. The role of the basal ganglia is to provide control of fine motor movements. What happens with PD, is there is a loss of dopamine producing neurons from the substantia nigra which causes a deficiency in dopamine levels. Without a sufficient amount of dopamine, there are not enough chemical messages being transmitted to initiate, control, and balance movement of the target muscles. It is worth noting though, that dopamine levels decrease naturally as one ages, so symptoms could become more aggressive and prevalent the older an individual gets. Fallon et al. (2015) explains that the dying cells contain Lewy bodies, defined as protein aggregates, which allow the disease to be identified. However, it is still undetermined what all factors cause the degeneration of those brain cells and PD as a whole. PD is a disease of mostly unknown etiology; however, there have been links to various factors from environmental influences to genetics (Galifianakis Ghazinouri, 2014). • 48. The Importance Of Slavery In Mansfield Park Mansfield Park is an interesting tale that involves the clashing ideals of the upper and lower classes. One could say that it is based in racial tension and imperialism, and many would agree. George E. Boulukos, author of The Politics of Silence: Mansfield Park and the Amelioration of Slavery, believes that a one of the primary conflicts of Mansfield Park surrounds the legality and morality of the slave trade in England. Boulukos presents that the amelioration of slaves, or in layman s terms, the improving of conditions for slaves, was a key focus of conflict between Fanny and her Uncle. The context of amelioration makes sense of the one scene in which the slave trade is discussed in Mansfield Park. Because Fanny s discussion with her uncle is followed by a dead silence, her reference to the slave trade has been taken as a reminder of the Bertrams shameful dependence on a business they would prefer to pass over in silence. (Boulukos362) Mansfield Park was written by Jane Austen, and this scandalous novel is still making a splash in today s world. In 1999, Austen fans were treated with a film by Patricia Rozema that bears the same name and premise as Mansfield Park. The film, presents the conflicting thoughts on slavery through the vocalization and arguing of two characters.
