Mascot Research Paper
Why is a school mascot important to students ? Mascots are found in schools, sports and businesses
and may date back a very long time. The word Mascot means A person, animal, or object believed to
bring good luck, especially one kept as the symbol of an organization to illustrate a sports team. A
mascot symbolizes courage, strength, speed and leadership. A Mascot is any person, animal, thought
to bring luck, or anything used to represent a group with a common public identity such as a school.
Professional sports team, society, military unit, or brand name. Mascot comes from the French term
Mascotte meaning lucky charm. It was first recorded in 1867 and popularized by the Opera La

University Lynchburg, VA In Partial Fulfillment Of the Requirements for Church History CHHI 301
By Brittany N. Askew February 6, 2012 Brittany Askew 06 February 2012 CHHI301_B04 Paper 1
Introduction The process by which Scripture has been preserved and compiled is one whose history is
worth noting. The early church had many opportunities to share the Good News of Christ via word of
mouth, but from the time of Christ s resurrection until the mid second century, there had not been a
single culmination of writings considered to be essential for the purposes of ... Show more content on

Marcion believed that the Jewish Scriptures only concerned the covenant between God and the Jews
of Israel, and therefore was no longer valid for the Christian church. In his mind, these were two very
separate Gods. When noticing that several of Paul s writings made mention of the God of Israel,
Marcion claimed that those writings were not Paul s original texts, and should be considered
counterfeit. Marcion s views of Paul s forged portions of his letters can be attributed to what many
theologians today might call the Slippery Slope Argument. In this case, Marcion chose not to trust in
the inerrancy of what God had spoken to Paul. Paul s writing s were flawed, or someone must have
tampered with them. This lack of trust in inerrancy would ultimately allow Marcion to fall down a
slippery slope , giving way to forsake other important Christian foundational truths. As his ideologies
became more widespread, it became obvious that Marcion s views on creation were radically
reinterpreted (or misinterpreted, better yet), as well as his opinions on the doctrines of incarnation and
the resurrection. Ultimately, the church at large came to the conclusion that his doctrines contradicted
several fundamental points in Christian doctrine. It forced the church to make a case for the value and
status of the Jewish scriptures it had adopted as its own, and it prompted

The Cold Of Cold Calling
Cold calling is a bit of a dirty word in the sales world. Most individuals you interview hate receiving
cold calls, whilst even the sales representatives have a dislike for the practice. Yet, it remains an
important strategy for many companies and it has the potential to provide plenty of benefits to a
business if only conducted properly.
This guide will look at what cold calling is all about, the reason it has a bad name and the advantages
it has for businesses. You ll learn about the core buildings blocks of a cold calling strategy and the
keys to a good call.
What is cold calling all about?
The practice of cold calling refers to a situation where a business contacts potential customers without
their anticipation of such an interaction. It is essentially a technique where the business approaches
individuals without knowledge that they are interested.
You shouldn t confuse it with the opposite practice of warm calling, where the business has prior
knowledge to suggest to person contacted is interested in the product. Cold calling can sometimes also
be mistakenly identified as telemarketing. Whilst cold calling is a form of telemarketing,
telemarketing is not limited to using cold calling as a strategy. In telemarketing, there is often prior
research involved and it often includes further call ups with the individual or business.
Cold calling strategies typically refer to phone calls, but cold calling can also entail different methods.
For example, drop in visits can

Big Puppet Essay
The Theatre of the Big Puppet, also known as the Grand Guignol, was a theatre founded in 1897 by
Oscar Metenier as an extension of the naturalist movement. The naturalist movement had been spread
by André Antoine s Theatre Libre. The term Grand Guignol refers to any dramatic entertainment that
has to deal with gruesome subject matter and features exaggerated explicit violence. A typical Grand
Guignol Theatre consists of plays, going from suspenseful crime dramas to vulgar sex disgraces. But
the main focus of the Grand Guignol was the horror play, which unavoidably included eye gouging,
throat slashing, acid throwing, or some other just as gruesome climax. The Grand Guignol theatre has
had an insightful influence on the art of horror performance and special effects. Now, special effects
and the use of props is what really made the Grand Guignol so horrific and gory. Theatre professor
and Grand Guignol expert, Mel Gordon, reminds us that the audience wanted to believe in what they
were seeing, the acting was intense, and there was 20 to 40 minutes of suspense and dread leading up
to the bloodletting. This shows that the impact of the special effects and their reality, along with other
elements of the play, also got help from the acting. Gruesome scenarios that made the audience

What Does Route 66 Mean To You Essay
Honk! Honk! Seat belts buckled? Have you ever wondered how America looked while sightseeing
down Route 66 back in the past? As you often travel down a flat, straight road, you are thinking this
road trip is terrible, but when you get on Route 66 you feel like a bird soaring through the sky. Most
people choose to ride on the interstate to get to places quicker, while in my opinion taking the back
roads is way better because you get to explore new sights. Way back in history route 66 was a unique
road to travel on, and the story The Best of America is on the Blue Highways, really explains why.
This author gives great examples of driving on Route 66, and what it represents. Route 66 represents
America and its beautiful features. In the story the author states, Route 66, to me, represents America
before we had the same stores at every mall and the same restaurants along every Main Street. It
represents an America where people could open a diner or a tourists attraction or a store on the town
square and do something unique and interesting and make a living at it. It has many original features,
along with many distinctive places. Many people often opened small businesses along this highway.
This historic road led people to many places, such as, Chicago to Santa Monica. This road was also
known as THE road. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

past knowledge this road is not just any ordinary road. It is a road that makes you feel like you can

Donald Trump Polarization
On Tuesday November 9th 2016, Donald Trump was elected president of the United States of
America. Mr. Trump was an unlikely and underestimated candidate, not only by the Republican party
he associates with but his Democratic rival and what half of the population. He is politically
inexperienced and ran his campaign capitalizing on the nation s economic concerns and fears. His
racial remarks and sexual assault allegations seemed to be overlooked by voters and seemed to benefit
him due to the racial tensions arising in our nation. He was elected into the highest position possible,
President of the free world. His rise in popularity was largely missed by polling organizations and data

Due to this, core issues such as gun women rights, health care or immigration, to name a few, are
polarized politician s options will align with that of their voter. The same model of individual learning
that underlies these results gives rise to ideological polarization, confirming the association of
polarization with deliberation. Polarization through deliberation comes about because individuals who
are not great at making indirect inferences from unpersuasive arguments learn more (or, put
differently, receive more information perceive as relevant) from sources that are biased in the direction
of their own prior biases, and in learning from those sources, they learn in a way that strengthens and
accentuates those prior biases (Dimitri. 2015. 93 94). Each party views the other negatively and
politics are personal with liberals and conservatives sharing the passion equally. The divide is there
and Donald Trump s views and statements played right into this growing separation in ideology and
unwillingness to compromise to create a better nation for all. In the end, there may not be any one shot
solutions or simple answers. The present degree of political polarization didn t arise overnight, and
seems unlikely to dissipate that quickly, either. But even if they don t solve the entirety of the problem,

Size of the armies: 2,400 British troops against 1,500 Americans.
Uniforms, arms and equipment: The British grenadiers, light infantry and battalion company men
wore red coats, the headgear of the companies, bearskin fronted mitre caps, tricorne hats and caps, and

The battle was the first action for the Continental Army and showed how much work there was to be
done in moulding an effective army. While most of the soldiers in the entrenched works fought
tenaciously, the intended reinforcements on Bunker Hill refused to advance to the support of their
comrades and there was the greatest confusion between the officers as to precedence.
The British attack on Breed s Hill The British attack on Breed s Hill seen from behind Charlestown
The battle had a number of lessons for the British. The senior officers had little idea how to conduct a
battle with any degree of sophistication. Howe learnt his mistake in making a frontal assault. At every
subsequent battle, where possible he carried out flanking assaults. The British troops were
indisciplined and disorganised. The guns for which the wrong ammunition was provided were almost
certainly battalion weapons manned by foot rather than Royal Artillery.
For both sides Bunker Hill was the start of a journey in military education.

Since the design in the fashion industry rarely creates a new process, machine or manufactures, they
have a separate statute specifically for them for new, original and ornamental design for an article of

Trade dress protection in which the United States Supreme Court has stated that the color and designs
of a product are only protected under the Lanham Act if a secondary meaning has been demonstrated.
Color and design must be associated by the customer for that particular product over time.
In 2004, the legal team decided to advance with option 4: Trademark protection. They claimed
trademark infringement, trademark dilution, as well as unfair competition and false designation.
Trademark infringement harbors a manufacturer or seller s product to include a word, slogan or

The Theory, Symbolic Interactionism, And Conflict Theory
Faith Williams Dr. Whitman Sociology Abstract This review connects three theoretical frameworks.
The first theoretical framework is the symbolic interactionism. This focuses mainly on how the
individual interacts with others, and how others influence the individual behaviors that impact society
in a micro or macro way. The second theoretical framework is the conflict theory, it examines the rift
between the rich and the poor and how it affects the quality of education, health care, and living
condition of said group. Thirdly, the functionalist theory, which compares society to a system of
interrelated parts, it s a social system not just an individual. Each frame work plays part in the issue
when an economy declines which causes many families to lose their jobs. Single mothers lose their
jobs and go into prostitution as a mean of support. CHAPTER I: INTRODUCTION In this review
there are three main paradigm: Functionalist theory, symbolic interactionist theory, and conflict theory.
The functionalist theory compares society to a system of interrelated parts. It looks at society more as
system not as an individual. Symbolic interactionism focuses on how the individual interacts with
others in a society and how others influences that individual; what impact does that have on a society.
Conflict theory examines the rift between the rich and the poor and how it affects the quality of
education, health care, and living condition of said group. In this review

history, specific issue, significant feelings of concern. A questionnaire can be used to good effect to
gather appropriate holistic information about the client in terms of their health and well being
including physical, mental and spiritual health.
This session is also an opportunity to explain to the client what to expect and what a typical course of
treatment entails. This serves to align both the client and the therapist. It is also an important
therapeutic relationship building opportunity as it is the first encounter. So it is important to lay the
foundation of this relationship with appropriate respect, empathy and honesty in order to build a

Les Miserables And The Power Of One Comparison
In the movie Les Miserables, directed by Billie August and the movie The Power of One, directed by
John Avildsen, two different characters show many magnanimous characteristics. In these two
different movies, as society throws these characters obstacles, they manage to be tenacious, protective,
peaceful, ambitious, and active. In Les Miserables, the character Jean Valjean is illustrated as
honorable through his protectiveness, peacefulness, and being tenacious. For example, Jean shows his
protectiveness. He promises to protect the daughter, Cosette, of a woman he loved. Jean and Cosette

Zulu] ever be included if they can t read or write English? . PK has the strong desire to teach the
Africans English so they can be treated fairly. Soon after, PK shows the trait of activeness. PK s
professor gives him the okay to start the African school. PK is so excited, he goes to tell Maria:
[Gideon] asked us to start a school. The headmaster gave us the permission to use the study room. We
re starting tomorrow night! Will you join us? (Avildsen 13). PK s activeness in the African s lives is
shown when he says: We re starting tomorrow night! . PK is obviously very excited to start the school,
displaying his magnanimous character trait, activeness. PK s final character trait is being tenacious,
similar to Jean. The officials in South Africa do not like when whites and blacks do activities together.
PK teaching the Africans English caused many issues with the officials. One day, the officials burst
into the room PK was teaching in, and a fight broke out between the officials and the Africans. Maria
was struck by an official and died: Maria s death shattered me more than ever... I had no more will to
fight... I had to leave for Oxford tomorrow (Avildsen 17). Similar to Jean, PK holds tightly onto Maria

of being tenacious when he says I had no more will to fight... . In all, PK is characterized as

A General Model Of Colonialism And Underdevelopment
It is very much clear that a general model of colonialism and underdevelopment cannot explain the
variations in India s growth trend during the colonial period from 1863 to 1947. However, there are
three structural features that define the entire colonial period. Structural features which include the
importance of natural resources and labour to economics growth and welfare.Land intensive
agriculture, Labour intensive handicrafts, and modern industry in natural resources, were the main
livelihoods throughout this period and beyond. Global features which saw a more open Indian
economy and the fact that India took part in the first globalisation of the 19th century, which saw a
rapid integration of world economy in terms of commodity trade, capital flows, and labour migration.
Due to the opening of Suez canal in 1867 India also witnessed the revolution in transport and
communication, Railways and telegraph which were introduced in this phase. There were Colonial
features suggesting India was a colony is evident from the large remittances that government of India
paid to the government in Britain. Thus, development in India was not resultant of a single factor but
can be summed as the culmination of various factors which shaped, in mutual interaction, the
economic growth in the region.
Economic historians divide the period into two parts pre war: from 1867 to 1920 5 and interwar: 1920
5 to 1947, moreover, they define National income in the periods as the following expression:

The Relationship Between Planarians And A Centralized...
Planarians are members of the Platyhelminthes (flatworm) family and are triploblastic organisms
whose tissues arose from the three germ layers namely; ecto , meso and endoderm. They act as a good
model for cell proliferation and therefore regeneration. Planarians are composed of many organ
systems including a centralized nervous system (CNS) which is made up of bi lobed cephalic ganglia
that are positioned at the anterior end of the body. These ganglia are linked to two longitudinal ventral
nerve cords that run posteriorly along the worm. Planarians ingest and excrete through a muscular
feeding tube connected to the gut. The gastrovascular system is also composed of three intestinal
branches that deliver the nutrients.

In the last ten years, research on planarians has been greatly improved with two members of the
phylum being worked with, S. mediterranea and Dugesia japonica. S. mediterranea were used because
of their regenerative abilities and their small genome size in comparison to other planarian members.
They also exist as two biotypes which allows for comparison between asexual and sexual
reproduction.
As mentioned already planarians regenerate by epimorphosis and following amputation, planarians
undergo depolarization. During regeneration, polarity of the body axis is controlled by the species.
The polarity is categorized into three orientations namely; anterior posterior (A/P), dorsal ventral
(D/V) and medial lateral (M/L).
Over the years, research has been carried out on the interaction between polarity and regeneration.
Following amputation, germs present in the planarian can be transported both anteriorly and
posteriorly to allow the regrowth of the head and tail. Other research carried out by Brøndsted
concluded that A/P polarity was brought about by unknown effectors through a time graded
regeneration field. In this field, points were revealed in the blastemal where regeneration took place
faster in the head region than in other areas leading to the release of factors that prevented head
formation in posterior regions. Morgan s discovery is the most prominent with regard to

Couple Therapy
Gender differences in couples work
Couple therapy often refers to the common negative process, of pursuer and withdrawer, in order to
understand the relational dance. This is the process where one partner purses the other through
emotional demands, criticism, and complaints, while the other retreats through withdrawal,
defensiveness, and passive interaction (Christensen, Heavey,1990). Many theorists have identified a
gender linkage with this pattern, suggesting women present as the demanding, pursuer, while men
assume the role of the distant, withdrawer (Christensen, Heavey,1990; Mornells, 1979). There is a
belief among some theorists that this pattern results from different personality characteristics of men
and women, and therefore impacted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Same sex couples report having less family support than heterosexual couples, this doesn t appear to
be completely to do with estrangement from family of origin, rather many couples contend with

enjoy immediate, consistent, and pervasive emotional support and acceptance upon disclosure of their
relationship to their families of origin (Rostosky et al., 2004). Many theorists believe the coming out
stage is necessary in the development of a healthy identity. The coming out stage often is a time of
great stress as individuals anticipate the reactions of their family of origin. Rostosky s (2004) research

What Are The Causes Of Gas Prices
The US consumed 142 billion gallons of gasoline in 2007 and the tax applied on it is 18. 4 cents on
one gallon. All around the US, there are around 162,000 retail gasoline outlets. With the price of crude
oil hovering around $100 a barrel, it is no wonder that concern is growing about the gas prices being
so high. After all, modern economies are kept moving by this lifeblood. For instance, in the United
States alone personal vehicles consume more than 140 billion gallons of diesel fuel and gasoline per
year. However, there are several factors that contribute to the gas prices being so high. Given below are

Gas Prices affected by Geopolitics and Supply problems Along with the demand for oil rising, many
disruptions to the supply have created bottlenecks. For example, the war in Iraq has resulted in
reducing oil production there, as has also happened in Nigeria due to rebel activity. The continuing
nuclear weapons wrangle with Iran, the government increasing its control over industry in Russia, and
the oil companies being nationalized in Venezuela has given rise to misgivings about future
supplies. In recent years, refining crude oil in the US has also become more expensive, with experts
citing two main reasons for this: congressional mandates resulting in shifting towards the production
of more environmentally clean gasoline blends, and the oil refineries on the Gulf Coast being
devastated by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in the year 2005. In addition, the production of crude oil in
America has also become costlier since the places that have been easiest to drill have largely gone
dry. This means that oil companies have to go increasingly into offshore oil producing areas such as
the Gulf of Mexico, which cost much more to drill in. With oil companies having to access harder to
reach locations, which makes it costlier to produce oil, and simultaneously them being forced to

Advantages Of Zoos
Animals are everywhere. Even if you don t notice them, they are there. Animals are very popular and
one of the reasons why they are beloved is because of zoos. Zoos are great places for animals to live
and a great place for people to learn. Zoos allow kids and adults to explore the little world of creatures
that live a similar life. Zoos are a lot safer place for the animals to live than the woods or the public.
People destroy animals habitats and wipe out their health. When people leave trash by animals

Andy Clark s Natural-Born Cyborgs Essay
Andy Clark, in Natural Born Cyborgs, offers an extended argument that technology s impact on and
intertwining with ordinary biological human life is not to be feared, either psychologically or morally.
Clark offers several key concepts towards his line of reasoning. Clark argues that a human being
thinks and reasons based on the biological brain and body dynamically linked with the culture and
technological tools transparently accessible to the human. This form of thinking and reasoning
develops new quot;thinking systems quot; that which over time become second nature thoughts and
reasons and are the basis of even newer quot;thinking systems. quot; It is a repetitive cycle that
continues forever being built upon previous systems. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The example he uses is of a boy trapped in isolation at a computer or video game. Clark asserts that
isolation is a matter of perspective, and that as it appears the boy is alone, he is actually spending
quality time in his chosen community that is brought together only through the power of technology.
He contends that this may expand our embodied awareness, In a strange way, we may even come to
better appreciate the value and significance of our normal bodily presence by exploring such
alternatives. Not disembodiment, then, so much as a deeper understanding of why the body matters
and of the space of possible bodies and perspectives. Not isolation so much as a wider and less
geocentric kind of community. (Clark, 194) The argument strategy that Clark employs is similar to a
critiquing strategy where he clearly defines his opponent s concern(s), usually by the use of a real
world example. After he has made the reader well aware of his opponent s concern(s), he generally
uses the same example to tactfully pitch his proposal as a solution to eliminate or neutralize the
concern. The proposal is based on one of two sources, his personal beliefs or observations and theories
based on his research and comprehensive knowledge of humans, technology, and society. In some
instances, he will offer multiple proposals to strengthen his defense and allow the reader to understand
there a several possibilities. It appears from the heavy citation of Daniel Dennett s works

Persuasive Essay On Tariffs
I think a lot of people are tired of watching other countries ripping off the United
States, comments Trump as he implements, a 25 percent tariff on foreign steel and a 10 percent tariff
on foreign aluminum when the product comes across our borders. Trump believes that other countries
have been taking advantage of the US through the current free trade agreements. We are America the
Great ; therefore, of course, we produce steel and aluminum in the cheapest and most efficient way
possible. We will save jobs by encouraging other sectors to purchase steel and aluminum domestically.
The tariffs will only hurt the other countries, not our own people. This belief is a big joke. Yet, many
people believe that getting rid of free trade is actually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What do the people who work in the factories want? They want to have their jobs protected, like many
working people do. Trump promised to help those workers. He promised to protect their jobs. That is
why he is proposing the tariffs. Yet, the tariffs are not actually beneficial for the workers. By strongly
encouraging Americans to use domestic steel and aluminum, the prices are being raised on these
products. All the products that have these two products as inputs are also having increased prices.
Why were factories buying these goods across the sea? China produces steel and aluminum at a lower
marginal cost, allowing them to sell the goods at a lower price and still maximize profit. Therefore,
China is the most efficient producer of these products. Instead of trying to inhibit efficiency, Trump
should be promoting efficiency. He could do so by encouraging the steel and aluminum factories to
discover new ways to produce their goods with a lower marginal cost. Also, maybe American factories
could specialize in another industry if China is the lowest cost producer of steel and aluminum. But,
these proposals are not being encouraged by Trump and his

Umbilical Cord Blood
There are so many people in this world today that are diagnosed with blood disorders, and other
cancerous diseases. Along these terrible diseases comes a long, painful journey of treatments, like
bone marrow transplants. But, bone marrow transplants aren t the only transplants in this world now.
In the outstanding findings of 1980 an estimation of more than 130 million infants are born, and
umbilical cord blood (UCB) is known to be the most abundant reservoir of hematopoietic cells for
many clinical applications. (Waller Wise R.)
Umbilical cord blood has many potential usages, yet mothers don t know about it. Instead of using the
umbilical cord blood, doctors usually just dispose of it. What mothers don t have the knowledge of is

This is because one unit of umbilical cord blood won t affect adults whatsoever. There aren t enough
hematopoietic stem cells in one unit. This is why scientists and clinical trials are doing their best to
come up with a way to double the unit so adults are able to use it, and not just adolescence. Scientists
are also still studying more ways to treat diseases with cord blood. At Duke University, for example,
researchers are using patients own cord blood in trials for cerebral palsy and Hypoxic ischemic
encephalopathy (a condition in which the brain does not receive enough oxygen). Trials are also under
way for the treatment of autism at the Sutter Neuroscience Institute in Sacramento, California. Also,
according to the New England Journal of Medicine, cord blood is still better than marrow
transplantations after studies were done. The adult patients in the trial had advanced leukemia, and
were then give a bone marrow transplant, but recovery was slower because they weren t matched. On
the other hand, the leukemia patients that were given cord blood transplants had more matches than
bone marrow, and also had no acute graft versus host disease. A really exciting area that s just now in
the basic science lab, is the area where stem cells...can be used for going over to muscle cells like your

Nanocomposites Case Study
From the surface morphology, it was estimated that the unique hierarchical ZnSnO2@G
nanocomposite offers a high surface area which makes it a potential candidate for the SC s
application. The N2 adsorption desorption curves of the composites are presented in Figure 5(a).
Clearly, the presence of a hysteresis loop within relative pressure (P/P0 =1) confirms the capillary
condensation of N2 gas within the as prepared nanocomposite, thus demonstrating the porous
characteristic of the electrode material. The Zn doped ternary nanocomposite with RGO nanosheets
offers a very high specific capacitance owing to its high surface area and unique urchin like

This can be attributed to the fact that as the current is directly proportional to the flux, the magnitude
of the current should be fast at faster scan rate and slow at slower scan rates.40 The CV curves reveal
that the maximum current density and an enhanced capacitive area were observed for the
nanocomposites ZnSnO2@G. This observation can be explained based on the fact that graphene with
its 2D structures exhibits enhanced conductivity, higher surface area, and better capacitive behavior as
compared to CNT. However, the Zn doped nanocomposites have enhanced current densities as
compared to SnO2 based nanocomposites, probably because of two reasons viz. First, the
incorporation of Zn2+ ions as dopants decreases the size, and second, the substitution of the Zn2+ ions
for the Sn4+ ions modifies the surface and forms more oxygen vacancies for charging compensation.
Thus, the CV curve confirms the successful interaction between the metal oxides and graphitic forms,
as also expected from the surface area and FESEM morphologies.

Incident Management Systems And The Ambulance Sector s...
Paramedics never know what their day will bring and while most days are varied, they are still
essentially business as usual. Without warning, these days can produce events that stretch the ability of
the emergency services to provide their normal service. Events such as earthquakes, tsunami, fires,
multi patient traffic crashes, bombings, and shootings can quickly overwhelm available resources.
These events usually require a coordinated multiagency response in order to facilitate a resolution to
the emergency. This paper will explore and critique the use of incident management systems to
facilitate this coordination. It will explore the interplay between large national systems and the
ambulance sector s major incident and emergency plans. Do these systems work in practise and do one
size fits all plans produce the desired result? Incident Management Systems (IMS) are structures used
to manage and co ordinate a response that is outside business as usual parameters. These critical
incidents usually involve threat to life and property and can threaten important infrastructure, making
it a priority to deal with the situation in an efficient and expedient manner (Dwyer Owen, 2009). The
response to these incidents may be by a single agency, though usually will require the input from
several other agencies such as the police, fire service, ambulance service, civil defence, health service,
defence force, or private organisations. All of these organisations bring their own

What Does Jim Casey Represent In The Grapes Of Wrath
The novel The Grapes of Wrath , by John Steinbeck, the main theme is Dignity of the Wrath.
Throughout the novel the Joad family, and new friends found along the way face a series of very
unfortunate events. The family found themselves in debt that they could not get out of. Which led
them to be tractored out because the bank now owned their land. In turn, they have to leave their
family farm, and head out west to California to find work. John Steinbeck, the author, uses the death
of the Joad s family dog, Jim Casey s death, and Rose of Sharon s Pregnancy as symbols that all tie
into the major theme, Dignity of the Wrath. On the way out to California the Joad family stops at a
nearby gas station to get gas and water. The Joad family members were talking to the rude gas station
employee as he tried to accuse them of being beggars. Without them knowing the dog had gotten out
of the truck to get water. They were not paying attention to the dog when he stood up and ran onto the
road. The family dog got ran over by a fancy ford roadster. The horrid death of the dog is one of the

supreme court history Essay
In 1789, the final draft of the constitution of the United States came into effect. In article three it calls
for quot;[t]he judicial Power of the United States, shall be vested in one Supreme Court, and in such
inferior Courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish. quot; In the article it
neither says the duties, powers, or any organization of the supreme court. If left this up to congress
and to the justices of the court itself for these details.
The very first bill introduced in the United States Senate was the Judiciary Act of 1789, led by
Connecticut s Oliver Ellsworth. It divided the country in 13 judicial districts. They were further

The early federal courts failed to issue strong opinions or even take on controversial cases. The
Supreme Court was not even sure if it had the power to consider the constitutionality of laws passed
by Congress.
This situation seemed to have changed drastically in 1801 when President John Adams appointed John
Marshall of Virginia to be the fourth Chief Justice. Confident that nobody would tell him not to,
Marshall took clear and firm steps to define the role and powers of both the Supreme Court and the
judiciary system. This is something that seemed to have gone unnoticed so far.
The Supreme Court, under John Marshall, defined itself with its historic 1803 decision in the case of
Marbury v. Madison. In this single landmark case, the Supreme Court established its power to
interpret the U.S. Constitution and to determine the constitutionality of laws passed by congress and
the state legislatures. John Marshall went on to serve as Chief Justice for a record 34 years, along with
several Associate Justices who served for well over 20 years. During his time on the bench, Marshall
succeeded in molding the federal judicial system into what many, as I do, consider to be today s most
powerful branch of government.
Before settling at nine justices in 1869, the number of Supreme Court Justices changed six times. In its
entire history, the Supreme Court has had only 16 Chief Justices, and over 100 Associate

Fish Reader Response Criticism
Fish s Reader Response Criticism is composed of two interdependent ideas: first, that the meaning of
texts is shaped by the reading experience itself, and second, that these meanings cannot be judged to
be correct or incorrect, but merely belonging to one interpretive community or another. The first idea
may be identified as the executive aspect of Reader Response Criticism because it analyzes the act of
reading, while the second idea is the epistemological aspect of the theory because it circumscribes the
knowledge we can acquire about a text to the merely relative. Studied independently, each aspect of
Reader Response Theory offers by itself strong arguments countervailing the formalist stance of the
New Critics. But as we will see, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This excerpt begins at the level of innate human concepts (flesh) and proceeds through the more
concrete level of medical terminology (muscles, blood, epidermis) and onwards through an evocative
metaphor (red cloud). Before the reader reaches the final clause ( whose soul is lightning ), he has
built up an expectation that a culminating trope will be used to close the sentence, as is usual. Instead,
the fragment ends with whose soul is lightning which refers not to the red cloud, but to the flesh itself.
In other words, the red cloud is not the object of the concluding clause, but a psychological multiplier:
the reader sees a red cloud (associated with storms) and then sees lightning exacerbated by the
immediately preceding image. Now the reader possesses a clear mental picture of the passionate flesh,
but the strange syntax (both in French and English) leaves him uncertain about what exactly the text
has said: is lightning the soul of the flesh? Is the soul the lightning emitted by the flesh? This is an
important point is the soul passion? Or is passion simply one of several manifestations of the soul?
Yourcenar has deliberately shrouded this discussion in complex syntax because the distinction itself
confounds us. If you are lost as to what exactly the text says right now, Yourcenar has achieved her
aim. Now take a look at Grace Frick s artful translation of the same text:
The flesh itself, that amazing instrument of muscles, blood, and skin, that

Reasons For Reimbursement
The current method for reimbursement is not adequate for ensuring cost effective services and
technology. There are five reasons for this inadequacy.4 Firstly, the health outcomes are improved by
new technology on average, but this is not applicable to every technology .Secondly, many new
technologies are characterized by ineffectiveness and redundancy and the problem is worsened as it is
not easy to distinguish between effective technologies and ineffective technologies when they are first
introduced. Thirdly, new technologies generally increase health care costs even though several
technologies might reduce costs through the replacement of more expensive alternatives or the
prevention of expensive health repercussions. Fourth, the inappropriate

Battle Royale Analysis
When Battle Royale first made its debut to the world, there were already concerns from the
government and parents about its effects on teenagers. Despite the Motion Picture Code Committee
restricting admission to anyone under sixteen, teenagers still camped out for two days to see the
opening screening (G. Sparks and C. Sparks 269). The film was controversial for its extreme violence,
but the reactions of the adults to try and control their children tellingly echoed the conflict within the
film itself, something its director had purposefully highlighted. Kinji Fukasaku used props throughout
his film to represent the challenging relationships between the older and younger generations of Japan.
Based in real life encounters and the failings of the Japanese school system, Fukasaku brought the
conflicts between the government, parents, teachers, and students to the screen in a darkly humorous
bloodbath.
Authority Figures versus Children
To better understand Fukasaku s approach to his film, it will help to examine his own childhood. As a
young teenager, Fukasaku grew up in a country plagued by the horrors of World War II:
His class was drafted into the war effort, and they found themselves working in a munitions factory.
[...] The classmates were caught in a barrage of artillery fire. [...] The survivors of the attack used the
corpses of their friends as cover and, after the violence has passed, Fukasaku and his surviving friends
were given the task of disposing of the body parts

Media Representation Of Women s Sports
When men engage in sports, it is seen and interpreted as an opportunity for them to exhibit dominance
in the masculinity and as an expression of heterosexuality. When women have traditionally engaged in
sports, it has caused commentators to question one s heterosexuality, to question their femininity, and
to almost ridicule the idea of women engaging in a traditionally male dominated activity. This analysis
focuses on media representations of men and women in sports, and the differences that exist in the
way that these stories are covered. This exploration will feature Canadian based media coverage as it
pertains to women and men engaged in hockey.
This analysis shows a changing in the guard of how women s sports are being covered. The increasing
feminism movement in sports with icons such as former MMA UFC fighter Ronda Rousey leading the
way in combination with an increasing in feminine issues being covered by the media has meant a
change in the way women s sports are featured. Though gender still has a major influence over the
coverage of women s hockey and a traditional heteronormative gender role is communicated at several
points of these pieces, the conversation has moved away from being an exposition on the strangeness
of women s engaging in a men s sports to becoming a celebration of women in sports. What this
encouragement does communicate however is the ability of these women to leave behind
stereotypically heteronormative feminine traits and take on the masculine

Suicide Among Vietnam Veterans
The military is one of the most culturally diverse employers in the world, therefore it is hard to
identify a specific target population at a higher risk of suicide. However, from the research conducted
by Kemp and Bossarte (2012) the data shows white male veterans between the ages of 50 and 79 were
more likely to commit suicide than any other race, gender or age group. Additionally, the periods in
which the veteran served also plays a huge role in veteran suicide, where the data shows Vietnam
veterans are significantly at a higher risk for suicide (Kemp Bossarte, 2012). It must be said, there is
research which shows there is no statistically significant increases in suicide mortality among Vietnam
veterans when compared to other war era veterans (Bossarte, Claassen, Knox, 2010). The research
conducted by David Lester (2005) shows there are several reasons for this. First, America engaged in
the Vietnam War without the approval, of the United Nation (Lester, 2005), causing a nation to
become divided. The war was meet with mix views and opinions however, veterans from Vietnam

For the temperature and aeration trials, the test tubes of Escherichia coli with tryptic soy broth (TSB)
were measured using identical procedures as the nutrient trials were tested. Before every sample, we
had to re zero the spectrophotometer with a blank test tube, and then we took the reading from the
cultured tubes. As we did for the nutrient experiments, we also took the readings from the temperature
and aeration samples every 15 minutes. The temperature test tube was prepared by exposing it to room
temperature (25°C), another test tube in an oven (33°C), and the test tube in a lab oven which was
slightly warmer, at 37°C.
In the aeration samples, one flask was stationary and it was exposed to the atmosphere. The second
sample was put in a regular flask, and placed in a shaking water bath. The third sample was placed in
an irregular shaped flask, which was also placed in the quivering water bath. After treatment, all the
samples were measured on the spectrophotometer, using the same procedure as the nutrient samples

Church History Paper I The Foundation of Orthodoxy and the Cannon A Paper Presented to Dr. Keith Goad of Liberty University Lynchburg, VA In Partial Fulfillment Of the Requirements for Church History CHHI 301 By Brittany N. Askew February 6, 2012 Brittany Askew 06 February 2012 CHHI301_B04 Paper 1 Introduction The process by which Scripture has been preserved and compiled is one whose history is worth noting. The early church had many opportunities to share the Good News of Christ via word of mouth, but from the time of Christ s resurrection until the mid second century, there had not been a single culmination of writings considered to be essential for the purposes of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marcion believed that the Jewish Scriptures only concerned the covenant between God and the Jews of Israel, and therefore was no longer valid for the Christian church. In his mind, these were two very separate Gods. When noticing that several of Paul s writings made mention of the God of Israel, Marcion claimed that those writings were not Paul s original texts, and should be considered counterfeit. Marcion s views of Paul s forged portions of his letters can be attributed to what many theologians today might call the Slippery Slope Argument. In this case, Marcion chose not to trust in the inerrancy of what God had spoken to Paul. Paul s writing s were flawed, or someone must have tampered with them. This lack of trust in inerrancy would ultimately allow Marcion to fall down a slippery slope , giving way to forsake other important Christian foundational truths. As his ideologies became more widespread, it became obvious that Marcion s views on creation were radically reinterpreted (or misinterpreted, better yet), as well as his opinions on the doctrines of incarnation and the resurrection. Ultimately, the church at large came to the conclusion that his doctrines contradicted several fundamental points in Christian doctrine. It forced the church to make a case for the value and status of the Jewish scriptures it had adopted as its own, and it prompted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Cold Of Cold Calling Cold calling is a bit of a dirty word in the sales world. Most individuals you interview hate receiving cold calls, whilst even the sales representatives have a dislike for the practice. Yet, it remains an important strategy for many companies and it has the potential to provide plenty of benefits to a business if only conducted properly. This guide will look at what cold calling is all about, the reason it has a bad name and the advantages it has for businesses. You ll learn about the core buildings blocks of a cold calling strategy and the keys to a good call. What is cold calling all about? The practice of cold calling refers to a situation where a business contacts potential customers without their anticipation of such an interaction. It is essentially a technique where the business approaches individuals without knowledge that they are interested. You shouldn t confuse it with the opposite practice of warm calling, where the business has prior knowledge to suggest to person contacted is interested in the product. Cold calling can sometimes also be mistakenly identified as telemarketing. Whilst cold calling is a form of telemarketing, telemarketing is not limited to using cold calling as a strategy. In telemarketing, there is often prior research involved and it often includes further call ups with the individual or business. Cold calling strategies typically refer to phone calls, but cold calling can also entail different methods. For example, drop in visits can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Our society finds it hard to function without our smartphone s, As a result its no longer a luxury but a necessity. people in the 21st century can t go to a restaurant without posting a picture of the food on social media. • 6. Big Puppet Essay The Theatre of the Big Puppet, also known as the Grand Guignol, was a theatre founded in 1897 by Oscar Metenier as an extension of the naturalist movement. The naturalist movement had been spread by André Antoine s Theatre Libre. The term Grand Guignol refers to any dramatic entertainment that has to deal with gruesome subject matter and features exaggerated explicit violence. A typical Grand Guignol Theatre consists of plays, going from suspenseful crime dramas to vulgar sex disgraces. But the main focus of the Grand Guignol was the horror play, which unavoidably included eye gouging, throat slashing, acid throwing, or some other just as gruesome climax. The Grand Guignol theatre has had an insightful influence on the art of horror performance and special effects. Now, special effects and the use of props is what really made the Grand Guignol so horrific and gory. Theatre professor and Grand Guignol expert, Mel Gordon, reminds us that the audience wanted to believe in what they were seeing, the acting was intense, and there was 20 to 40 minutes of suspense and dread leading up to the bloodletting. This shows that the impact of the special effects and their reality, along with other elements of the play, also got help from the acting. • 7. What Does Route 66 Mean To You Essay Honk! Honk! Seat belts buckled? Have you ever wondered how America looked while sightseeing down Route 66 back in the past? As you often travel down a flat, straight road, you are thinking this road trip is terrible, but when you get on Route 66 you feel like a bird soaring through the sky. Most people choose to ride on the interstate to get to places quicker, while in my opinion taking the back roads is way better because you get to explore new sights. Way back in history route 66 was a unique road to travel on, and the story The Best of America is on the Blue Highways, really explains why. This author gives great examples of driving on Route 66, and what it represents. Route 66 represents America and its beautiful features. In the story the author states, Route 66, to me, represents America before we had the same stores at every mall and the same restaurants along every Main Street. It represents an America where people could open a diner or a tourists attraction or a store on the town square and do something unique and interesting and make a living at it. It has many original features, along with many distinctive places. Many people often opened small businesses along this highway. This historic road led people to many places, such as, Chicago to Santa Monica. This road was also known as THE road. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From past knowledge this road is not just any ordinary road. It is a road that makes you feel like you can soar, and you also feel like it is taking you to the past! Just think of how it used to be. Mr. Trump was an unlikely and underestimated candidate, not only by the Republican party he associates with but his Democratic rival and what half of the population. He is politically inexperienced and ran his campaign capitalizing on the nation s economic concerns and fears. His racial remarks and sexual assault allegations seemed to be overlooked by voters and seemed to benefit him due to the racial tensions arising in our nation. He was elected into the highest position possible, President of the free world. His rise in popularity was largely missed by polling organizations and data experts. Due to this, core issues such as gun women rights, health care or immigration, to name a few, are polarized politician s options will align with that of their voter. The same model of individual learning that underlies these results gives rise to ideological polarization, confirming the association of polarization with deliberation. Polarization through deliberation comes about because individuals who are not great at making indirect inferences from unpersuasive arguments learn more (or, put differently, receive more information perceive as relevant) from sources that are biased in the direction of their own prior biases, and in learning from those sources, they learn in a way that strengthens and accentuates those prior biases (Dimitri. 2015. 93 94). Each party views the other negatively and politics are personal with liberals and conservatives sharing the passion equally. The divide is there and Donald Trump s views and statements played right into this growing separation in ideology and unwillingness to compromise to create a better nation for all. In the end, there may not be any one shot solutions or simple answers. The present degree of political polarization didn t arise overnight, and seems unlikely to dissipate that quickly, either. At every subsequent battle, where possible he carried out flanking assaults. The British troops were indisciplined and disorganised. Since the design in the fashion industry rarely creates a new process, machine or manufactures, they have a separate statute specifically for them for new, original and ornamental design for an article of manufacture. Trade dress protection is addressed under the Lanham Act to defend the design and appearance of the product as well as that of the container and all elements making up the total visual image by which the product is presented to customers. Colors have also been addressed under the Trade dress protection in which the United States Supreme Court has stated that the color and designs of a product are only protected under the Lanham Act if a secondary meaning has been demonstrated. Color and design must be associated by the customer for that particular product over time. In 2004, the legal team decided to advance with option 4: Trademark protection. They claimed trademark infringement, trademark dilution, as well as unfair competition and false designation. Trademark infringement harbors a manufacturer or seller s product to include a word, slogan or symbol. • 11. The Theory, Symbolic Interactionism, And Conflict Theory Faith Williams Dr. Whitman Sociology Abstract This review connects three theoretical frameworks. The first theoretical framework is the symbolic interactionism. This focuses mainly on how the individual interacts with others, and how others influence the individual behaviors that impact society in a micro or macro way. The second theoretical framework is the conflict theory, it examines the rift between the rich and the poor and how it affects the quality of education, health care, and living condition of said group. Thirdly, the functionalist theory, which compares society to a system of interrelated parts, it s a social system not just an individual. Each frame work plays part in the issue when an economy declines which causes many families to lose their jobs. Single mothers lose their jobs and go into prostitution as a mean of support. CHAPTER I: INTRODUCTION In this review there are three main paradigm: Functionalist theory, symbolic interactionist theory, and conflict theory. The functionalist theory compares society to a system of interrelated parts. It looks at society more as system not as an individual. Symbolic interactionism focuses on how the individual interacts with others in a society and how others influences that individual; what impact does that have on a society. Conflict theory examines the rift between the rich and the poor and how it affects the quality of education, health care, and living condition of said group. In this review ... • 14. A General Model Of Colonialism And Underdevelopment It is very much clear that a general model of colonialism and underdevelopment cannot explain the variations in India s growth trend during the colonial period from 1863 to 1947. However, there are three structural features that define the entire colonial period. Structural features which include the importance of natural resources and labour to economics growth and welfare.Land intensive agriculture, Labour intensive handicrafts, and modern industry in natural resources, were the main livelihoods throughout this period and beyond. Global features which saw a more open Indian economy and the fact that India took part in the first globalisation of the 19th century, which saw a rapid integration of world economy in terms of commodity trade, capital flows, and labour migration. Due to the opening of Suez canal in 1867 India also witnessed the revolution in transport and communication, Railways and telegraph which were introduced in this phase. There were Colonial features suggesting India was a colony is evident from the large remittances that government of India paid to the government in Britain. Thus, development in India was not resultant of a single factor but can be summed as the culmination of various factors which shaped, in mutual interaction, the economic growth in the region. Economic historians divide the period into two parts pre war: from 1867 to 1920 5 and interwar: 1920 5 to 1947, moreover, they define National income in the periods as the following expression: ... Planarians are members of the Platyhelminthes (flatworm) family and are triploblastic organisms whose tissues arose from the three germ layers namely; ecto , meso and endoderm. Planarians are composed of many organ systems including a centralized nervous system (CNS) which is made up of bi lobed cephalic ganglia that are positioned at the anterior end of the body. These ganglia are linked to two longitudinal ventral nerve cords that run posteriorly along the worm. Planarians ingest and excrete through a muscular feeding tube connected to the gut. They also exist as two biotypes which allows for comparison between asexual and sexual reproduction. As mentioned already planarians regenerate by epimorphosis and following amputation, planarians undergo depolarization. During regeneration, polarity of the body axis is controlled by the species. The polarity is categorized into three orientations namely; anterior posterior (A/P), dorsal ventral (D/V) and medial lateral (M/L). Over the years, research has been carried out on the interaction between polarity and regeneration. Following amputation, germs present in the planarian can be transported both anteriorly and posteriorly to allow the regrowth of the head and tail. In addition, the production of crude oil in America has also become costlier since the places that have been easiest to drill have largely gone dry. This means that oil companies have to go increasingly into offshore oil producing areas such as the Gulf of Mexico, which cost much more to drill in. He contends that this may expand our embodied awareness, In a strange way, we may even come to better appreciate the value and significance of our normal bodily presence by exploring such alternatives. Not disembodiment, then, so much as a deeper understanding of why the body matters and of the space of possible bodies and perspectives. This observation can be explained based on the fact that graphene with its 2D structures exhibits enhanced conductivity, higher surface area, and better capacitive behavior as compared to CNT. However, the Zn doped nanocomposites have enhanced current densities as compared to SnO2 based nanocomposites, probably because of two reasons viz. First, the incorporation of Zn2+ ions as dopants decreases the size, and second, the substitution of the Zn2+ ions for the Sn4+ ions modifies the surface and forms more oxygen vacancies for charging compensation. Thus, the CV curve confirms the successful interaction between the metal oxides and graphitic forms, as also expected from the surface area and FESEM morphologies. The film was controversial for its extreme violence, but the reactions of the adults to try and control their children tellingly echoed the conflict within the film itself, something its director had purposefully highlighted. Kinji Fukasaku used props throughout his film to represent the challenging relationships between the older and younger generations of Japan. Based in real life encounters and the failings of the Japanese school system, Fukasaku brought the conflicts between the government, parents, teachers, and students to the screen in a darkly humorous bloodbath. Authority Figures versus Children To better understand Fukasaku s approach to his film, it will help to examine his own childhood. As a young teenager, Fukasaku grew up in a country plagued by the horrors of World War II: His class was drafted into the war effort, and they found themselves working in a munitions factory. [...] The classmates were caught in a barrage of artillery fire. [...] The survivors of the attack used the corpses of their friends as cover and, after the violence has passed, Fukasaku and his surviving friends were given the task of disposing of the body parts ... The increasing feminism movement in sports with icons such as former MMA UFC fighter Ronda Rousey leading the way in combination with an increasing in feminine issues being covered by the media has meant a change in the way women s sports are featured. Though gender still has a major influence over the coverage of women s hockey and a traditional heteronormative gender role is communicated at several points of these pieces, the conversation has moved away from being an exposition on the strangeness of women s engaging in a men s sports to becoming a celebration of women in sports. However, from the research conducted by Kemp and Bossarte (2012) the data shows white male veterans between the ages of 50 and 79 were more likely to commit suicide than any other race, gender or age group. Additionally, the periods in which the veteran served also plays a huge role in veteran suicide, where the data shows Vietnam veterans are significantly at a higher risk for suicide (Kemp Bossarte, 2012). It must be said, there is research which shows there is no statistically significant increases in suicide mortality among Vietnam veterans when compared to other war era veterans (Bossarte, Claassen, Knox, 2010). The research conducted by David Lester (2005) shows there are several reasons for this. First, America engaged in the Vietnam War without the approval, of the United Nation (Lester, 2005), causing a nation to become divided. Introduction In this experiment, the gram negative bacterium Escherichia coli is being subjected to various environmental factors that affect the rate of growth. These factors scrutinized were the different types of nutrients, the intensity of aeration, or the temperature at which it was stored. The purpose of this lab is to determine which factor affects the Escherichia coli the greatest. It is known that these abiotic factors affect the rate of growth the greatest if they remain at the correct conditions for living. Escherichia coli and other bacteria will go through four phases; a lag phase, log phase, stationary phase, and a death phase. We took readings every 15 minutes, until the class was over which was at the 90 minute mark. For the temperature and aeration trials, the test tubes of Escherichia coli with tryptic soy broth (TSB) were measured using identical procedures as the nutrient trials were tested. Before every sample, we had to re zero the spectrophotometer with a blank test tube, and then we took the reading from the cultured tubes. As we did for the nutrient experiments, we also took the readings from the temperature and aeration samples every 15 minutes. The temperature test tube was prepared by exposing it to room temperature (25°C), another test tube in an oven (33°C), and the test tube in a lab oven which was slightly warmer, at 37°C. In the aeration samples, one flask was stationary and it was exposed to the atmosphere. The second sample was put in a regular flask, and placed in a shaking water bath. The third sample was placed in an irregular shaped flask, which was also placed in the quivering water bath. After treatment, all the samples were measured on the spectrophotometer, using the same procedure as the nutrient samples and temperature samples. Results The results showed that the experimental data did not necessarily display the lowest MGT. For the nutrient data, the MSG had a mean generation time of an hour, the MSGT had a doubling time of less than 13 minutes, and the MSGTYE had a mean generation time ...
