The Dependent Variable, Perception Of Safety On Campus Essay
The dependent variable, perception of safety on campus, was measured by an item on the
questionnaire asking students to indicate their level of satisfaction on feeling safe on campus.
Respondents rated their satisfaction on a scale from 1 (Very satisfied) to 5 (Very dissatisfied).
Responses to this item were recoded into three categories. Very satisfied and satisfied were combined
and recoded 0 (Satisfied). Undecided was recoded 1 (Undecided). Very dissatisfied and dissatisfied
together were recoded 2 (Dissatisfied). Recoding was deemed necessary for easier interpretation of
findings (See Table 1). Independent Variables The variables, perception of officers fairness and
impartiality, fear at night, and violence in residence halls, were operationalized by an item on the
questionnaire asking students to indicate their satisfaction or agreement. Responses to this item ranged
from 1 (Very satisfied) to 5 (Very dissatisfied). Similarly, responses were recoded into three categories
1 (Satisfied a combination of both satisfied and very satisfied responses), 2 (Undecided) or 3
(Dissatisfied a combination of both dissatisfied and very dissatisfied responses). Gender was a

Essay Sarah and Angelina Grimké
Up until and during the mid 1800 s, women were stereotyped and not given the same rights that men
had. Women were not allowed to vote, speak publically, stand for office and had no influence in public
affairs. They received poorer education than men did and there was not one church, except for the
Quakers, that allowed women to have a say in church affairs. Women also did not have any legal
rights and were not permitted to own property. Overall, people believed that a woman only belonged
in the home and that the only rule she may ever obtain was over her children. However, during the pre
Civil war era, woman began to stand up for what they believed in and to change the way that people
viewed society (Lerner, 1971). Two of the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spending time with the slaves, as well as educating them, was something that Sarah very much looked
forward to and enjoyed. That was until her father became aware and completely prohibited her to have
any contact with them. In 1918, at the age of twenty six, Sarah s life encountered a major turning
point. While joining her father on a trip to Philadelphia she met many well known Quakers. While
talking with the men, Sarah found that she was interested in their beliefs and views on life and what
was occurring in society. This intrigued her to ask them their opinion on male and female equality.
When they responded that they were in favor of equality, she left the Anglican religion, as well as her
family, and moved to Philadelphia to become a Quaker. (VanBurkleo, 2000) However, as she studied
and lived with them, she soon discovered how they felt about slaves and African Americans in
general. At this time, her younger sister Angelina came to live with her and the two began protesting at
Quaker meetings. As children, Angelina and Sarah were extremely close. From the moment Angelina
was born, Sarah looked after her as her primary caregiver. Due to the close bond that they shared,
Angelina looked up to Sarah and followed in many of her footsteps. She too showed great admiration
and sympathy towards the salves on her plantation. Even at the young age of five, she was so
distressed at seeing a slave whipped that she begged a sea captain to help him escape

Essay on Japanese Internment in Canada
The core of the Japanese experience in Canada lies in the shameful and almost undemocratic
suspension of human rights that the Canadian government committed during World War II. As a result,
thousands of Japanese were uprooted to be imprisoned in internment camps miles away from their
homes. While only a small percentage of the Japanese living in Canada were actually nationals of
Japan, those who were Canadian born were, without any concrete evidence, continuously being
associated with a country that was nothing but foreign to them. Branded as enemy aliens , the
Japanese Canadians soon came to the realization that their beloved nation harboured so much hate and
anti Asian sentiments that Canada was becoming just as foreign to them as ... Show more content on

The initial reaction to Pearl Harbor was to take cautious emergency actions to avert civil unrest. Soon,
the Canadian government passed the War Measures Act. It gave permission to intern all undesirable
Japanese, tie up every Japanese owned fishing boat in British Columbia, close all Japanese language
schools, forbid the publishing of newspapers in Japanese, and seize all Japanese property. All of which
were subsequently carried out. In 1941, there were twenty three thousand five hundred Japanese
persons in Canada, residing mainly on the coast of British Columbia. Of that, six thousand seven
hundred were Canadian born, seven thousand were naturalized citizens, and the rest were nationals of
Japan. However, nothing could make any difference. To the typical, white British Columbian, the
Japanese were all lower class citizens. Five hours after the attack on Pearl Harbour, forty eight
Japanese planes bombed Hong Kong where two Canadian battalions were stationed, and were
inflicted with heavy casualties. The problem of the resident Japanese in British Columbia was then
quickly set into the mainstream focus. Prior to declaring war on Japan, Mackenzie King had stated
that the enemy country had wantonly and treacherously attacked British territory, and that Japan s
actions [were] a threat to the defence and freedom of Canada.

Bryant Thanatopsis Theme
William Cullen Bryant in Thanatopsis, represents the romantic era theme of the love of nature. He
appreciates the beauty of nature and explains how nature teaches truths that are universal to everyone.
It is a poem that focuses on finding comfort in nature for death. He concludes by stating that man
should live life and be fulfilled in the things they ve done, not regretting things that have been done
during their lives.
In Thanatopsis, Bryant accurately depicts the romantic era s theme of a love for nature. He reveals this
theme first and foremost in the way he finds nature as a source of joy. Thanaptopsis is a meditation on
death. He recognizes the beauty of nature and finds joy in nature as a lover for nature. Bryant begins is

He feels when one dies, he is very lonely because no one goes with him; however, he comes to realize
that man is not lonely because the earth is decorated with several beautiful elements of nature. He
describes the earth as the great tomb of man (51). He also gives a scenario when one dies in the midst
of nowhere and no one ever finds the individual just like a situation where a client has a run of
ventricular tachycardia which ends up being fatal and leads to death of the client. The death occurred
because no one was around to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the client within the
window, Bryant says this death is lonely but the earth, nature, will provide you with company from all
the elements present. Bryant uses a metaphorical statement, as the long train of ages glide away, the
sons of men, the youth in life s green spring, and he who goes in the full strength of years, matron, and
maid, the speechless babe, and the gray headed man, shall one by one be gathered to thy side, by those
who in their turn shall follow them (51), to emphasize that death will come. No matter what age,
whether you be a newborn or an elderly individual, death will knock on your door

Why Did The Comanche Tribes Gain Their Power
The Comanche were one of the most powerful Indian tribes that America has ever seen. They stopped
the Spanish from expanding to the north and farther into America. However they weren t always that
way. S.W. Gwynne compared them to a young, bullied boy who grew into a strong, vengeful man.
There were quite a few different factors that made the Comanche evolve into this powerhouse in the
west. The Comanche were able to hold this power for some time, that is, until things took a turn for
the worse, and they were forced to surrender and their power was gone. Before exploring how the
Comanche gained their power, one must look into the history of the Comanche tribe. The word comes
from a Ute word meaning anyone who wants to fight me all the time. The Comanche were originally
part of the Shoshone group, but 10,000 members left after they were introduced to horses. They
moved to the Texas and Oklahoma region. They chose that land specifically for the buffalo population.
This land they settled in was called Comancheria. Part of that land included the Llano Estacado, a
plateau in Texas and New ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most well known uses of the Comanche power is raiding. Over the time of their power,
there is an estimation of 20,000 captives taken by the Comanche tribes. The Comanche had a process
when it came to their raids. Adult males and newborns to the age of two would be killed. Children
from the age of three to ten would be taken as captives. Women would normally be raped and
sometimes killed. Once the Comanche realized they had low fertility rates, they started to take the
women as captives in order to raise their populations. The captives were also used as slaves to take
care of the livestock. The Comanche would do horrendous things to their captives and those they were
raiding. Examples are torture, gang rape, scalping,

How To Create Suspense In Rattarake
RATTLESNAKE is a very compelling action thriller with a hit of a modern western. The plot keeps
the audience engaged.
The goal is clear and the stakes are deadly. The tone is gritty. There are solid themes about second
chances and survival. The perceived protagonist has to overcome many obstacles to survive. There s a
feeling of a nicely crafted ticking clock tension. The action is also well constructed. There s good
visual storytelling, such as when Marcos is shot.
The script uses some of the techniques that make for a compelling thriller, including an isolated
setting, being cut off from communication, the sense of being stalked, and the threat of being harmed
or killed.
There s really a lot to like about this script, but in every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Also, to make Claire a stronger character, give her more inner conflict and struggle about her
stepfather and/or mother. This is touched upon, but not fully developed. In addition, give Claire a fear
i.e. spiders or snakes. The snake is foreshadowed, but it s not clearly established that this is an
overwhelming fear for Claire and that she will have to overcome this fear in the climax to defeat the
foe. Remember, what works best in these types of stories are when the hero or heroine has to
overcome their inner fears, before they can defeat the foe. So if Claire has a strong fear of spiders or
snakes, in the climax she will have to be seen overcoming this. For example, the totem that she uses to
attack Ajax with might be next to a snake.
However, if indeed Hank is truly the main protagonist and hero, then set up the robbery, the digging
scene and then transition directly to the ranch, revealing Hank working there. Introduce the other
characters at the ranch including, perhaps even Claire as to not confuse the audience about the true
protagonist. She can still be from a rehab.
Or make the scene at the rehab brief as, again, not to confuse the audience about the true protagonist.
Consider moving up the catalyst when they find Ricky s body and then Marcos is shot. Don t spend
too much time setting up each character or this will slow the pace (examples Ricky and

Why Are Teens Attracted To Gangs
Why Teenagers Are Attracted To Gangs
For some young teenagers, joining a gang can provide comfort, protection and a sense of belonging.
Among teenagers, being in a gang can enhance their popularity status with peers, who particularly are
girls. A gang is a group of three or more individuals who make a name for themselves by creating an
atmosphere of fear and intimidation. Gangs tend to identify themselves by a collective name, a slogan,
identifying sign, tattoos or other physical markings. Statistics show that the highest percentage of gang
members are teenagers who range from the ages of 13 to 18. Being in a gang may seem like fun, or
seem cool and exciting, but in actuality it is can be dangerous, unsafe and could be fatal. Gangs have
been a part of society for many years. Most modern gangs started as a group of people working
towards one common goal, protecting their neighborhood. Eventually, helping the neighborhood
became obsolete and drug trafficking and violence became the main focus of the organization. Lately,
gang members have turned from outcast and being frowned upon to becoming role Thompson 2
models. In recent years, the model perceptions of gangs are now cool, respected and in ... Show more

solidarity. Some teens, who have little emotional support in their home, often have no parental
connection and live in an unsteady environment. Gangs are mostly filled with teens that are from
poverty stricken neighborhoods. Teens are often attracted to the promise of food, shelter, and money,

The Importance Of Medication Errors
Introduction Medication errors result in over 700,000 emergency department visits each year in the
United States, and nearly two thirds of these hospitalizations are due to accidental overdose (Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014). Missed doses or overdoses are one of the problems related
to medication safety (Anthony, 2015). A medication error is any act or occurrence which causes or
leads to a patient receiving inappropriate medication treatment (Potter Perry, 2014). Errors can occur
due to failure to follow procedures related to medication administration, lack of communication
between healthcare staff, deciphering illegible handwriting and underlying system factors, such as
distractions and time constraints (Potter Perry, 2014). Technological advances such as networked
computers and other innovations have been placed in hospitals to study its impact on medication
adherence; the following paper will compare and contrast these findings. First Article Summary The
first article aims to alleviate the issue by implementing a bar code verification technology within an

risks and disadvantages effecting client safety. Thus it is important to understand that the healthcare

Ewaso Ng Iro Watershed
Ewaso Ng iro watershed is a catchment of water that stretches from the west side of Mount Kenya and
across seven arid to semi arid landscapes (Said et al. 13). The catchment is characterized by vastly
different physiographic features and species and has become a fundamental component to the survival
of the wildlife, as well as the expansion of human population and socio economic developments.
Water, the limited land resource provided by the Ewaso Ng iro watershed is unevenly distributed
throughout the higher and lower regions of the catchment due to the large percentage necessary to
maintain agricultural practices (Mutiga, Su, and Woldai 3). The ecosystems within the Ewaso Ng iro

unreliable rainfall patterns and quantities and decreasing discharge during the low flow periods also
have significant impacts on all aspects of the Ewaso Ng iro watershed (Aeschbacher, Liniger and
Weingartner 155,156). The water catchment lies predominantly through arid to semi arid landscapes
where the annual levels of rainfall and precipitation have seemingly decreased over the years (Mutiga,

the ecosystem s vegetation and wildlife will decrease, and human populations and developments will

What are the implications for Teletech s resource allocation strategy? Looking at the graph above,
when Teletech Corp. uses the constant hurdle rate, Telecommunications services which earns 9.1% on
capital is underneath of the company s hurdle rate. Moreover, the P S which promises to earn 11% on
capital is above the company s hurdle rate. However, the result may be reversed by looking at the
graph with adjusted risk hurdle rates. It is clear that company is doing better than they should in the
telecommunication segment, because they are getting higher return in comparison to the risk they are
taking. On the other hand, P S segment is not doing as well as it should, because return is getting
lower than the risk taken by the company. That is to say, constant and risk adjusted hurdle rate lead to
the different results when Teletech Corp. evaluated its ROR. Implications that company are facing in
this strategy are that they are going with the constant hurdle rate for all of its segments, which is not

Raymond Carver Narrator
Anyone who has read Raymond Carvers Cathedral knows that the narrator is not looking forward or
welcoming his guest into his home. Also, he is not being very sympathetic of what this man s
condition that he lives with is, being blind. The Narrator must learn to be more sympathetic in his life,
and should learn from this experience, with this older bling man. Raymond Carver uses his narrator
non sympathetic ways effectively throughout the story, developing of the narrator from the beginning

from the beginning that he does not like how this blind man is coming to visit him and his wife. He

The Opposite Sex Is A Necessity
The opposite sex is a necessity in our lives. If we did not need them, none of us would be here right
now, literally. By nature, we need someone else in our lives, be it a male or female, and be it friends,
significant others, and family of the opposite sex. We need each other for company, support, and
contentment.
Men and women, on their own, are very strong individuals. They can be happy and have a fulfilling
life individually AT times, but not all the time. Single people go to clubs, they hook up and have one
night stands with their opposite sex. What does this behavior show? It shows that women have a need
for men, and men have a need for women. It shows they need each other s company, even if it is for a
couple of hours. Everyone needs company; loneliness is a very sad state to be in. Think about being
lonely, and automatically your face expression turns neutral or maybe it turns sad, it does not bring
happiness or fulfillment. Yes, sometimes one needs some alone time, but to making it a routine that

Flatbed Vehicle
When you place a call to arrange for towing service, odds are good that you ll expect one specific type
of tow truck to arrive: a flatbed vehicle. However, there are actually multiple types of tow trucks that
roadside assistance teams may use. While not every towing service will have all of them in their fleet,
it s worth asking about, in order to ensure you get the right vehicle for your needs.
The following are the three most common towing vehicles in use:

Again, this is the most well known variety. As the name suggests, it consists of a truck with a wide
flatbed area for your vehicle to rest on. Small ramps allow the crew to drag or drive your car up into

Jeff And Digby s Maturity In Greasy Lake
Three young men are about to undergo a rite of maturity that will take them from innocence to
experience and from the last vestiges of childhood into the opening round of maturity. The unnamed
narrator and his friends Jeff and Digby are what would today be referred to as poseurs although what
they are really are merely young men struggling to find their identity in an increasingly confusing
world. Even so, it is the misplaced identification with gritty urban heroes of books and screen by these
ordinary suburban boys that situates them into a place where Greasy Lake becomes the baptismal.
Trouble begins with the trio makes a far more miscalculated misidentification: that of thinking that a
car parked up at Greasy Lake belongs to their friend Tony Lovett. As boys not to mention some more

The narrator, Jeff, and Digby do not immediately flee in the face of the possibility of homicide.
Instead, they turn their attention to the greasy character s girlfriend, now alone and vulnerable and
utterly at the mercy of the skyrocketing levels of adrenaline and testosterone shooting through the still
not fully developed bodies of the three apparently quite average, ordinary and relatively harmless
suburbanites. It is not the kind of mercy that is desirable as the three move to work out their mixture of
aggression and sexuality on the girl. The arrival of another car quickly causes a dispersal of the would
be gangbangers, however. The narrator chooses to escape by driving straight into the lake where the
night just gets weirder. What should his brief underwater getaway bring him into contact with but an
actual dead body which sends him scurrying away in terror? The dispersal results in the congealing of
shared boyhood nightmare as the trio manage to meet up again in the woods, hidden from the
suddenly gazing eye of reconstituted greasy character. Turns out he was merely knocked unconscious

Iron Jawed Angels is a film that portrays the cruelty and brutality woman faced throughout the
Suffrage movement in the 1900s and the Women faced many issues, but some accepted inequality
while others waited patiently as asked to for years. Alice Paul and Lucy burns took a stand and stroke
up determination within women. Women who were a part of the movement were referred to as
suffragists who stood up to the law and asked for the right to vote. They faced many obstacles such as

advance due to the fact that had families to support. The division between NAWSA and NWP was
portrayed in the film and it has relevance to the course because it ties into what the article breaking
down barriers for women revolved around. The older women were not on board with the strategies
and because of that asked Paul to raise the funds for the parade she wanted to conduct. The split was
based on tactics. The NAWSA led by Carrie Chapman Catt wanted a state by state approach while
Alice Paul, who led NWP had more aggressive techniques. Picketing the white house was considered
an aggressive approach to NAWSA. Although they were aggressive, they were not violent. There was
more determination coming from the NWP. NAWSA waited patiently as asked by President Wilson.
The President ignored the issue and said it was because he had no knowledge nor was he familiar with
the issue. This movement is important because although it took years the goal was achieved. It was a

The Introduction of the Burqini in Europe
In January of 2007, a new style of bathing suit known as the Burqini became a media sensation.
Burqini is a multi piece head to toe bathing suit designed especially for women who follow Islam and
practice sartorial hijab and cover their entire body except face hands and feet. The media created this
portmanteau of burqa and bikini and referred to these full body multi piece swimsuits to modestly
dress Muslim women as burqinis. Burqini has received a lot of attention from media from all over the
world; both positive and negative, making it a sensational piece of garment in 21st century. The most
public attention gained by this garment was in 2009 when it was banned in Emerainville , a suburb of
Paris in France and later in Italy making because it was unhygienic and inappropriate clothing for a
public baths. Therefore, making Burqini one of the most controversial piece of clothing as it questions
culture, religion, health and hygiene of the individual who wears a Burqini along with the people who
are in the same bath as the individual wearing Burqini. This paper discusses how and why Burqini
became a controversial piece of garment by focusing on news stories, written records and personal
interviews of people who wear Burqini. It critically analyses and focuses on how this controversy of
faith versus hygiene of Burqini wearers is just a result of cultural clash.
Introduction of the burqini in Europe led to juxtaposing perspectives on whether or not it should be

Hamlet Character Essay
The Troubled Prince: An Analysis of Hamlet
To be, or not to be: That is the question (3.1.58). This is probably the most famous quote in all of
Shakespearean literature and was uttered by the main character, Hamlet, of the play Hamlet written by
Shakespeare. It demonstrates his instability and suicidal thoughts. Throughout the play he comes off
as a very unpredictable and complex character. He makes many rash decisions, but at the same time
often takes a lot of time to contemplate many of his choices. Through Hamlet s language and voice,
we can examine what type of character Shakespeare created. Hamlet acts differently towards people in
contrast to his actual thoughts, which are projected through his soliloquies. Due to the insanity ...

For example, in the rest of the soliloquy he uses metaphors to say perhaps he should, take arms against
a sea of trouble instead of killing himself (3.1.65). Perhaps the reason for lack of imagery to describe a
terrible thing such as suicide is his insanity and indecisiveness. Though he plays with the idea of
suicide, he is also fearful of it and cannot fully describe it with his normal enthusiastic imagery. In the
soliloquy where he envisions himself murdering Claudius, Hamlet s insanity is the most apparent.
This time he again uses simile to describe how his father was as flush as May in his sins when Cladius
killed the King (3.3.82). He also goes on to envision the murder and how he will kill Claudius, when
he is sleeping, or gambling or in the incestuous pleasure of his bed (3.3.91). Hamlet is obsessing over
murdering Claudius, but at the same time procrastinating the murder because he wants it to be at the
perfect time, such as when Claudius is most sinful. This procrastination is slowly driving him insane
as shown in this soliloquy. In his soliloquies Hamlet frequently associates metaphors and similes and
it is important to realize the progression of Hamlet s instability as well as his surprising actions and
complex thoughts presented through these soliloquies. The manner in which Hamlet conveys himself
and his emotions to other people help show another dimension of his character his little trust in

The Drought In California s Water System
Right now there is a drought in California and it is due to the water usage. Bach in the gold rush due to

the end the dam was built and that has shape California s water system hugely. The use of water in
California now has not been in the best interest of the state because The amount of water use for

the State are wretchedly poor, having no horses, cattle or other property. They formerly survived on
game, fish, acorns, etc. but it is now impossible for them to make a living by hunting or fishing (Doc

the law of prior appropriations And after being use up, the stream become muddy causing fish to seek
for new houses which will also be destroyed due to more miners using the streams carelessly. This
causes Indians, animals and habitats to die. It is stated by Jerry Stanley in 1997, The gold rush meant
death by starvation for thousands of Native Californians, and death from disease for thousands more
(Doc 7). This shows the consequence made by the miners. They use the water for their gold, polluting
the rivers with mercury and to the Indians that drink the water they are die and if they don t they will

animals left which were a food source for Indians. The Indians are not the only one who were being
harm. The environment is being harm. They cut down tree which are habitats for animals and the
animals have to leave home and find a new one buts people will continue cutting trees and polluting

The Sarbanes-Oxley Act Case Study
On July 30, 2002, George Bush signed into law the Sarbanes Oxley Act. This act was a product of the
collapse of major corporations such as Enron, Global Crossing, Adelphia, and WorldCom. All four
companies allegedly hid their true financial conditions from creditors and shareholders until an
inability to meet financial commitments forced these companies to restate earnings and reveal massive
losses. The financial collapse of these corporations, a result of allegedly fraudulent accounting
practices, created a ripple effect that weakened a stock market already deflated by both the bursting of

The business judgment rule, as a standard of judicial review, is the common law recognition of the
statutory authority that has been vested in the board of directors (Shu Acquaye, 2004). Under the rule,
which operates as a standard of judicial review, the burden is placed on the party challenging a
decision of the directors to establish facts rebutting that presumption (Skinner, 2006). Courts invoke
the business judgment rule in assessing the conduct of directors and determining whether to impose
liability in a particular case (Shu Acquaye, 2004). This rule does not provide unlimited protection for
directors though. Although, the business judgment rule is designed to foster the complete exercise of
managerial power granted to directors, it is not an unfettered power (Shu Acquaye, 2004).
Consequently, the business judgment rule does not afford protection to directors who exercised
unintelligent or unadvised judgment, or who submitted to faithlessness, fraud, or self dealing (Shu
Acquaye, 2004). Application of the business judgment rule is based on a demonstration that informed
directors did in fact make a business judgment sanctioning the matter being examined. A director s
obligation to inform himself, in preparation for his decision, derives from the fiduciary capacity in
which he serves the company and its stakeholders (Shu Acquaye, 2004). So long as the directors
decision was reasonably informed and can be attributed to any rational business purpose, a court will
not substitute its own notions of sound business judgment for that of the directors, unless that
presumption is rebutted (Skinner, 2006). Prior to the court s decision in Smith v. Van Gorkom, the
court was reluctant to hold boards liable for breach of

Analysis Of Mrs. Se s By Lahiri
Encaged
In the story Mrs. Sen s , Lahiri presents the struggles of assimilating into a new country and portrays
how lonely and restricted immigrants can feel causing them to hold on to their past. She is able to do
this through her use of the character, Mrs. Sen, a woman who is originally from India. Throughout the
story we see how difficult it is for Mrs. Sen to assimilate to the lifestyle in America. Her days, usually
consist of staying in an apartment while her husband teaches at a nearby university. Mrs. Sen s Indian
lifestyle still seems very prominent, all her furniture is still wrapped in plastic, the shoes are all lined
in a bookcase by the front door, she refuses to purchase fish from the supermarket and she uses an
abnormal blade to do her cooking. All of this illustrating how perhaps she is not ready to let go of her
Indian lifestyle and assimilate. Mrs. Sen is representative of the struggles of assimilation. The
inevitability of feeling lonely and facing many restrictions results in Mrs. Sen constantly grasping on
to whatever part of India she has left. Without even realizing this she prevents herself from
assimilating. She always relies on Mr. Sen, she barely knows anybody, she often misses her family
and she cannot seem to make America feel like home. Throughout the story we begin to notice how in
America, Mrs. Sen is a somewhat lonely person. This, however is not by choice. She does not know

ethical dilemmas is shown through popular sport inspiring movie, Remember The Titans (Yakin,

black people fighting back, Gerry instigates the racism and discrimination, snarling, Hell why don t

best for the integration of our mobile devices. We were allotted a start up budget of $100,000. Our
Chief Financial Officer, Lakeem Duporte has managed our funds and regulated spending throughout
the development process. Our general manager, Brad Soergel was the lead in charge of our
infrastructure and office accommodations. Maan Ababtain, our computer support technician handles
our technical issues. Nuh Hamilton, our network specialist maintains our servers and also enforces
privacy and security protocols.

Android is an operating system based on the Linux kernel. This means that it uses the core
components of the Linux operating system as a basis for its programming. Google, the creator of
Android, took the open source code of the Linux kernel to create its operating system. (Hoffman, n.d.)

The Black Man And Bob Ewell, A White, Poor Man
In To Kill a Mockingbird , Harper Lee says, Mockingbirds just make music. They don t eat up people
s gardens; don t nest in corncribs; they don t do one thing but sing their hearts out. That s why it s a sin
to kill a mockingbird (8). She implies that some humans are convicted and seen as danger but in
reality they are the opposite. She writes this book in 1960, where the civil rights of humans are just
about being settled in communities. In the town of Maycomb, the black community and white
community get along in the sense that they do not too. The whites are skeptical of the blacks and they
assume their own thoughts on them, of race. She writes about these young men, both of different
colors but still are victimized by society. Tom robinson, a black man and Bob Ewell, a white, poor
man. These two men are different but they are treated differently because of what society observes of
them. In Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, the author Frederick details the trajectory of his
life because he was a slave. The society is injustice towards him because of his skin and his social
class. he is a worker and an illiterate person to them. These characters come together as subhumans,
who are victimized by society, causing them come across their true worth. In To Kill a Mockingbird,
Lee describes the injustice of Tom Robinson by the white community. He is convicted of a rape of a

Stockhausen Life and Works
Composer Karlheinz Stockhausen was born August 22, 1928 in the small town of Mödrath located just
west of Cologne Germany. He was the first child of three born to Simon and Gertrud Stockhausen.
Early in his life, the Stockhausen family struggled financially. Germany was in a low point of stability
after WWI and most people had trouble making ends meet. Simon Stockhausen, a teacher at the time,
was forced to move from one temporary post to another on average twice a year. Unfortunately in
1932 when he was four years old, Stockhausen s mother Gertrud was committed into a sanatorium.
This was likely due to the depression she encountered associated with the instability, poverty, and
having three children so close to one another. In 1935 Shortly after his wife became ill, Simon
Stockhausen was promoted to head teacher at a small village school located in Altenburg. The newly
formed Third Reich led by Adolf Hitler used him in this position to influence the local community by
spreading propaganda and organizing fundraisers for the new movement. Karlheinz Stockhausen
showed an early interest in music and the family piano. The family also owned a radio that young
Stockhausen listened to and attempted to imitate. When he was seven, Karlheinz was enrolled in
school and began his first piano lessons with the organist of the local Protestant church. He practiced
often and learned to play back music he heard on the radio.

Q3. Identify some theoretical linkages between Ebbers s leadership style as practiced and the behavior
that occurred within WorldCom.
Answer: Ebbers self inflicted, self centered, transactional leadership style paved the way for the firm s
demise. He loaned subordinates to ensure compliance, loyalty, and cooperation. A transformational
leader leads subordinates to achieve goals for all. The main issue is trust, a trait that is higher in
transformational than in transactional leadership (Principles of Management, 2015). Ebbers decided
otherwise. He surrounded himself with a select group of people and kept others in the dark on decision

While these costs have been rising relative to sales, the company believes that its future success will
be a result of its increased knowledge in effectively and efficiently generating traffic. As illustrated in
Exhibit 6, quarterly revenues increased significantly throughout 2004, while traffic acquisition costs
as a percentage of revenues began to decline.
In addition, the financial statements demonstrate that liquidity remains strong. The horizontal balance
sheet illustrates that cash and cash equivalents rose 639% over the three year period beginning with
fiscal year 2002. Furthermore, short term investments increased 1839% over the same period.
These measures are important for a variety of reasons. As Google attempts to become the front runner
in the web search and online advertising industries, it is beginning to face considerable litigation
regarding its advertising policy. Paris courts recently reached a decision surrounding this issue and
luxury goods maker Louis Vuitton. Secondly, as the marketplace witnesses the current success and
growth of Google, it is inherent that more competitors will emerge. These companies may draw
interest in terms of acquisition from Google, potentially complementing current operations. Strong
liquidity will allow the company to handle the presence of lawsuits and the ability to fund such

Analysis Of `` House Of Sand And Fog `` By Andre Dubus IIi
Alienation Throughout the novel House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III, the recurring theme of
alienation takes its toll on the lives of the two main characters: Kathy and Behrani. We see how the
isolation of both characters not only has an effect on them, but also on the lives of others who matter
most to them. Alienation is the act of being withdrawn or isolated from a life in which one is
accustomed or should be accustomed to. The incidents of alienation demonstrated in the novel
include, the relationship between each character and their families, Behrani and his family being
forced out of their home country and living in America, and Kathy getting evicted from her family
house. As we see these events occur throughout the book, we also learn that both characters will do
whatever it takes to claim ownership of what they both call home. This drawn out battle over a piece
of property ends up putting Kathy along with Lester behind bars, and with Behrani losing his son in
the process. Dubus illustrates many scenes where both Kathy and Behrani isolate themselves from
their families. For example, when Kathy is at the motel reminiscing of her phone calls with her
mother, we see how Kathy alienates herself from her family when she notes how after Nick left, she
would start lying about how well he was doing at his new job and how this used to be true (44). By not
telling her mother that Nick had left her, this demonstrates a clear example of her seclusion from her

Family And Family Analysis
The institution of a family can be viewed as the backbone of society by having a major role in the
functioning of society. It is considered to have many essential functions like reproduction, socializing
children, providing care and support, regulating sexual relationships, etc. Creating an infant is the
beginning of how a family is significant in the functioning of society. The family then provides safety
and economic stability for the child. The social norms, behaviors, and culture are then taught and
learned by the child through exposure from peers and the environment. As the child continues to grow,
the family is constantly giving the child love and support while the child learns his or her self identity.
The cycle of socialization, passing along culture, and providing guidance of self purpose then
continues from generation to generation. Families were essentially the main economic unit of society,
however, that was before industrialization. Depending on the society and culture, the roles within the
family can vary based on gender, class, and race. After industrialization, it was believed that men were
the ones that should earn the money away from the household while the women took care of their
children and house. Margaret L. Andersen and Taylor F. Howard explains, Many men are now more
engaged in housework and child care than was trust in the past, although women still provide the vast
majority of this labor (Andersen Howard, 2014, p.279). However, women that were

How A Newly Graduated Physiotherapist Can Prepare For...
For students to graduate from a physiotherapy course, upto 1000 clinical hours needs to be completed
(Dawson, Morris Wilson, 2014). In terms of clinical experience, as a graduate, 1000 hours are
minimal in relation to the greater paradigms of development and clinical knowledge. The Chartered
Society of Physiotherapy [CSP] (2013) clinical supervision guidelines promote the benefit of clinical
supervision for new graduates in adhering to Health and Care Professionals Council [HCPC] (2012)
expectations of improving professional development and profiling evidence. There are differences in
supervision, development opportunities and senior support for newly qualified physiotherapists in the
National Health Service (NHS) and private sector. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To prepare for employment, a new graduate can self analyse skills and clinical performance using
models of analysis. Self analysis can take many forms, from the competency learning model to
personal reflective writing. The purpose is to identify areas for skill development and use the models
for improving knowledge (Higginson and Hicks, 2006). From this preparation, the individual can then
appreciate the level of clinical supervision that will be required post graduation to support professional
development and direct of job applications appropriately towards either the NHS or private sector.
One model of self analysis that an individual can use is the four stages of competency. These four
stages allow a person to identify the level currently at in relation to a specific skill and then over time
chart the course of the development of the skills from incompetence to competence (Getha Taylor,
Hummert, Nalbandian and Silvia, 2013). The four stages are: unconsciously incompetent, consciously
incompetent, consciously competent and unconsciously competent (Getha Taylor et al, 2013). A new
graduate usually is unconsciously incompetent as the individual is unaware of what is not known and
lacks the knowledge of an experienced physiotherapist (Getha Taylor et al, 2013). In this case the
structured clinical supervision of the NHS, discussed further below, would be beneficial in providing
scope for progression and

The Golden Age of Sail in Saint John
Even as the Golden Age of Sail was coming to a close, Saint John had remained at the top the fourth
largest shipbuilding center in the world and one of the greatest in North America. Their affluence took
a turn during 1877, when the Great Fire of Saint John devastated the city. It shattered not only the
lives of city shipbuilders and merchants, but crippled local citizens as well. Summers in Saint John
were typically dry and muggy, though on June 20, 1877 there was an eerie uncharacteristic breeze.
Although the cause of the original spark remains unknown, it is believed to have started from
McLaughlan Son s boiler shop or from a nearby sawmill. As wood is a naturally rapid burning agent,
it led to the quick demise of many wood built city structures. The structures in the Market Square area
burnt rapidly destroying over 80 hectares (200 hundred acres) and 1612 structures including eight
churches, six banks, fourteen hotels, eleven schooners and four woodboats in just over a nine hour
period. It was a period of despair, as men and women were completely drained after dragging bedding,
pieces of furniture and other articles through the streets, a vain task in many cases, as the new places
of refuge sought out often proved as unsafe as those that were deserted. Several business owners and
residents lost everything they had ÂŹ leaving many Saint John natives with nowhere to go. Support
quickly began to pour in from all around the world, with donations reaching in

The American Fear of Being Sued Essay
The American Fear of Being Sued
Something basic has been stolen from American life. We have lost much of our individual freedom
due to the theft in our society. Our thieves come in the form of sue happy Americans. Doctors are
paranoid, teachers are weakened and religious consultation is decreased. You would have to be a fool
to say what you really think in the workplace. Increasingly, people believe that they cannot make a
difference. Today, the medical industry has been transformed. Doctors must live by a different code of
ethics other than their oath. Legal fear has put the doctor patient relationship in jeopardy. Today,
physicians view patients as potential malpractice litigants. Therefore, doctors order unnecessary ...

The girls mother got angry and had words with the other mother. The angry mother then sued for a
restraining order to keep the boy off the same playground. Could you believe the judge issued an
injunction? What we once considered harmless childhood play is no longer allowed on our
playgrounds. Seesaws, monkey bars, and merry go rounds are considered dangerous and a sign of the
past. When considering the past, faith has been an integral part of how society functions. No matter
what faith, lawsuits do not discriminate. Philip K. Howard stated, Nothing is sacred. Ministers now
are increasingly told not to counsel troubled parishioners because, who knows, maybe someone will
sue if the couple ends up getting divorced. How can we as fellow parishioners allow this to happen?
When did we develop a fright for participating in a faith? Lets permit ministers to counsel as they
have for centuries. Church and State have always been separate, lets keep it that way! Sociologist
Orlando Patterson asked the question, Do you think whites are afraid of discrimination claims? Frozen
with fear is more accurate. The sociologist observed, no Euro American person #8230;dare say what
he or she really means. Fear of a discrimination claim hangs over all black white relations in the
workplace. A lawsuit that favors no cultural background is sexual harassment. Trying to be fair,
American law, has shut out our ability to be ourselves in

Anne Frank Symbols
Timed write of The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank A safe haven can mean many different
things to many different people. A safe haven can be a person, pet, object, or place. In The Diary of a
Young Girl by Anne Frank, her safe place is the annex. The annex houses a handful of people of the
Jewish culture, and Anne Frank s family created that handful of people. All the different people in the
annex hold many unique views of one another, but they are all together in that small annex for a
reason, to survive.
The biography The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank integrates many different symbols
throughout its story. The symbol of the annex dominates over all the other symbols. The annex
represents a home, a sense of fear and safety, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The annex that houses too many people for its size brings out the best and worst in each character.
Anne experiences many moments of happiness, anger, sadness, and irritation that is caused by the
other members of the annex. The van Daan family is the source of most irritation for little Anne Frank.
Mrs. van Daan, to be specific, aggravates Anne the greatest. Mrs. van Daan regularly criticises the
way Anne acts, speaks, does her chores, etc. Mrs. van Daan takes her opinions a little too far a
majority of the time. Anne goes to sleep most nights with these thoughts in her head, Then I fall asleep
with the strange feeling of wanting to be different than I am or being different than I want to be, or
perhaps of behaving differently than I am or want to be (Frank 72). Anne writes about the tears she has
shed and the emotions she feels when this old bag speaks to her. Another member of the annex that
tends to get on everyone s nerves is Mr. and Mrs. van Daan s son Peter. Anne and Peter appear to be
near the same age which means they can only read books that their parents deem appropriate for their
age. One particular book in the annex interested Peter and Anne, but they were not of age yet. Instead
of following the rules given, Peter took the book and read it in secrecy. Eventually, Mr. van Daan
caught him reading this mature novel in the upper part of the

  • 4. Essay Sarah and Angelina GrimkĂ© Up until and during the mid 1800 s, women were stereotyped and not given the same rights that men had. Women were not allowed to vote, speak publically, stand for office and had no influence in public affairs. They received poorer education than men did and there was not one church, except for the Quakers, that allowed women to have a say in church affairs. Women also did not have any legal rights and were not permitted to own property. Overall, people believed that a woman only belonged in the home and that the only rule she may ever obtain was over her children. However, during the pre Civil war era, woman began to stand up for what they believed in and to change the way that people viewed society (Lerner, 1971). Two of the most ... That was until her father became aware and completely prohibited her to have any contact with them. In 1918, at the age of twenty six, Sarah s life encountered a major turning point. While joining her father on a trip to Philadelphia she met many well known Quakers. While talking with the men, Sarah found that she was interested in their beliefs and views on life and what was occurring in society. This intrigued her to ask them their opinion on male and female equality. When they responded that they were in favor of equality, she left the Anglican religion, as well as her family, and moved to Philadelphia to become a Quaker. (VanBurkleo, 2000) However, as she studied and lived with them, she soon discovered how they felt about slaves and African Americans in general. At this time, her younger sister Angelina came to live with her and the two began protesting at Quaker meetings. As children, Angelina and Sarah were extremely close. From the moment Angelina was born, Sarah looked after her as her primary caregiver. Due to the close bond that they shared, Angelina looked up to Sarah and followed in many of her footsteps. She too showed great admiration and sympathy towards the salves on her plantation. • 5. Essay on Japanese Internment in Canada The core of the Japanese experience in Canada lies in the shameful and almost undemocratic suspension of human rights that the Canadian government committed during World War II. As a result, thousands of Japanese were uprooted to be imprisoned in internment camps miles away from their homes. While only a small percentage of the Japanese living in Canada were actually nationals of Japan, those who were Canadian born were, without any concrete evidence, continuously being associated with a country that was nothing but foreign to them. Branded as enemy aliens , the Japanese Canadians soon came to the realization that their beloved nation harboured so much hate and anti Asian sentiments that Canada was becoming just as foreign to them as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The initial reaction to Pearl Harbor was to take cautious emergency actions to avert civil unrest. Soon, the Canadian government passed the War Measures Act. It gave permission to intern all undesirable Japanese, tie up every Japanese owned fishing boat in British Columbia, close all Japanese language schools, forbid the publishing of newspapers in Japanese, and seize all Japanese property. All of which were subsequently carried out. In 1941, there were twenty three thousand five hundred Japanese persons in Canada, residing mainly on the coast of British Columbia. Of that, six thousand seven hundred were Canadian born, seven thousand were naturalized citizens, and the rest were nationals of Japan. However, nothing could make any difference. To the typical, white British Columbian, the Japanese were all lower class citizens. Five hours after the attack on Pearl Harbour, forty eight Japanese planes bombed Hong Kong where two Canadian battalions were stationed, and were inflicted with heavy casualties. The problem of the resident Japanese in British Columbia was then quickly set into the mainstream focus. Prior to declaring war on Japan, Mackenzie King had stated that the enemy country had wantonly and treacherously attacked British territory, and that Japan s actions [were] a threat to the defence and freedom of Canada. ... The death occurred because no one was around to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the client within the window, Bryant says this death is lonely but the earth, nature, will provide you with company from all the elements present. They stopped the Spanish from expanding to the north and farther into America. However they weren t always that way. S.W. Gwynne compared them to a young, bullied boy who grew into a strong, vengeful man. There were quite a few different factors that made the Comanche evolve into this powerhouse in the west. The Comanche were able to hold this power for some time, that is, until things took a turn for the worse, and they were forced to surrender and their power was gone. Before exploring how the Comanche gained their power, one must look into the history of the Comanche tribe. The word comes from a Ute word meaning anyone who wants to fight me all the time. The Comanche were originally part of the Shoshone group, but 10,000 members left after they were introduced to horses. They moved to the Texas and Oklahoma region. The snake is foreshadowed, but it s not clearly established that this is an overwhelming fear for Claire and that she will have to overcome this fear in the climax to defeat the foe. Remember, what works best in these types of stories are when the hero or heroine has to overcome their inner fears, before they can defeat the foe. The Importance Of Medication Errors Introduction Medication errors result in over 700,000 emergency department visits each year in the United States, and nearly two thirds of these hospitalizations are due to accidental overdose (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014). Missed doses or overdoses are one of the problems related to medication safety (Anthony, 2015). A medication error is any act or occurrence which causes or leads to a patient receiving inappropriate medication treatment (Potter Perry, 2014). Errors can occur due to failure to follow procedures related to medication administration, lack of communication between healthcare staff, deciphering illegible handwriting and underlying system factors, such as distractions and time constraints (Potter Perry, 2014). Technological advances such as networked computers and other innovations have been placed in hospitals to study its impact on medication adherence; the following paper will compare and contrast these findings. The narrator fails to show sympathy throughout the story to show that the man not judge him for what he is, to show the Its really something moment, and to show the problems of the couple underneath what is happening. First, Carver uses his non sympathetic narrator effectively throughout the short story, by showing that the blind man can see more than him sometimes. The narrator says from the beginning that he does not like how this blind man is coming to visit him and his wife. He knows that that the blind man and his wife have had known each other longer than the two of them have known each other. Instead of welcoming his wife s old friend, he categorizes her friend with her past. Showing the narrator is jealous and pity, which then makes you wonder if Robert, the blind man, was involved in her suicide attempt or her divorce. This explains how Robert would have a better ... • 19. The Opposite Sex Is A Necessity The opposite sex is a necessity in our lives. If we did not need them, none of us would be here right now, literally. By nature, we need someone else in our lives, be it a male or female, and be it friends, significant others, and family of the opposite sex. We need each other for company, support, and contentment. Men and women, on their own, are very strong individuals. They can be happy and have a fulfilling life individually AT times, but not all the time. Single people go to clubs, they hook up and have one night stands with their opposite sex. What does this behavior show? It shows that women have a need for men, and men have a need for women. It shows they need each other s company, even if it is for a couple of hours. Everyone needs company; loneliness is a very sad state to be in. Think about being lonely, and automatically your face expression turns neutral or maybe it turns sad, it does not bring happiness or fulfillment. Yes, sometimes one needs some alone time, but to making it a routine that calls for misery. Even people that are part of the LBGT community need the opposite sex, maybe not as a partner but as friends and family. When these people confess their attraction to the same sex, they wish for their friends and family, male and female, to accept them. This is probably the most famous quote in all of Shakespearean literature and was uttered by the main character, Hamlet, of the play Hamlet written by Shakespeare. It demonstrates his instability and suicidal thoughts. Throughout the play he comes off as a very unpredictable and complex character. He makes many rash decisions, but at the same time often takes a lot of time to contemplate many of his choices. Through Hamlet s language and voice, we can examine what type of character Shakespeare created. For example, in the rest of the soliloquy he uses metaphors to say perhaps he should, take arms against a sea of trouble instead of killing himself (3.1.65). Perhaps the reason for lack of imagery to describe a terrible thing such as suicide is his insanity and indecisiveness. Though he plays with the idea of suicide, he is also fearful of it and cannot fully describe it with his normal enthusiastic imagery. In the soliloquy where he envisions himself murdering Claudius, Hamlet s insanity is the most apparent. This time he again uses simile to describe how his father was as flush as May in his sins when Cladius killed the King (3.3.82). He also goes on to envision the murder and how he will kill Claudius, when he is sleeping, or gambling or in the incestuous pleasure of his bed (3.3.91). Hamlet is obsessing over murdering Claudius, but at the same time procrastinating the murder because he wants it to be at the perfect time, such as when Claudius is most sinful. This procrastination is slowly driving him insane as shown in this soliloquy. In his soliloquies Hamlet frequently associates metaphors and similes and it is important to realize the progression of Hamlet s instability as well as his surprising actions and complex thoughts presented through these soliloquies. The manner in which Hamlet conveys himself and his emotions to other people help show another dimension of his character his little trust in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Under the rule, which operates as a standard of judicial review, the burden is placed on the party challenging a decision of the directors to establish facts rebutting that presumption (Skinner, 2006). Courts invoke the business judgment rule in assessing the conduct of directors and determining whether to impose liability in a particular case (Shu Acquaye, 2004). This rule does not provide unlimited protection for directors though. Although, the business judgment rule is designed to foster the complete exercise of managerial power granted to directors, it is not an unfettered power (Shu Acquaye, 2004). Consequently, the business judgment rule does not afford protection to directors who exercised unintelligent or unadvised judgment, or who submitted to faithlessness, fraud, or self dealing (Shu Acquaye, 2004). Application of the business judgment rule is based on a demonstration that informed directors did in fact make a business judgment sanctioning the matter being examined. A director s obligation to inform himself, in preparation for his decision, derives from the fiduciary capacity in which he serves the company and its stakeholders (Shu Acquaye, 2004). So long as the directors decision was reasonably informed and can be attributed to any rational business purpose, a court will not substitute its own notions of sound business judgment for that of the directors, unless that presumption is rebutted (Skinner, 2006). As illustrated in Exhibit 6, quarterly revenues increased significantly throughout 2004, while traffic acquisition costs as a percentage of revenues began to decline. In addition, the financial statements demonstrate that liquidity remains strong. The horizontal balance sheet illustrates that cash and cash equivalents rose 639% over the three year period beginning with fiscal year 2002. • 39. Analysis Of `` House Of Sand And Fog `` By Andre Dubus IIi Alienation Throughout the novel House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III, the recurring theme of alienation takes its toll on the lives of the two main characters: Kathy and Behrani. We see how the isolation of both characters not only has an effect on them, but also on the lives of others who matter most to them. Alienation is the act of being withdrawn or isolated from a life in which one is accustomed or should be accustomed to. The incidents of alienation demonstrated in the novel include, the relationship between each character and their families, Behrani and his family being forced out of their home country and living in America, and Kathy getting evicted from her family house. As we see these events occur throughout the book, we also learn that both characters will do whatever it takes to claim ownership of what they both call home. This drawn out battle over a piece of property ends up putting Kathy along with Lester behind bars, and with Behrani losing his son in the process. Dubus illustrates many scenes where both Kathy and Behrani isolate themselves from their families. For example, when Kathy is at the motel reminiscing of her phone calls with her mother, we see how Kathy alienates herself from her family when she notes how after Nick left, she would start lying about how well he was doing at his new job and how this used to be true (44). By not telling her mother that Nick had left her, this demonstrates a clear example of her seclusion from her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Family And Family Analysis The institution of a family can be viewed as the backbone of society by having a major role in the functioning of society. It is considered to have many essential functions like reproduction, socializing children, providing care and support, regulating sexual relationships, etc. Creating an infant is the beginning of how a family is significant in the functioning of society. The family then provides safety and economic stability for the child. The social norms, behaviors, and culture are then taught and learned by the child through exposure from peers and the environment. As the child continues to grow, the family is constantly giving the child love and support while the child learns his or her self identity. The cycle of socialization, passing along culture, and providing guidance of self purpose then continues from generation to generation. Families were essentially the main economic unit of society, however, that was before industrialization. Depending on the society and culture, the roles within the family can vary based on gender, class, and race. After industrialization, it was believed that men were the ones that should earn the money away from the household while the women took care of their children and house. Margaret L. Andersen and Taylor F. Howard explains, Many men are now more engaged in housework and child care than was trust in the past, although women still provide the vast majority of this labor (Andersen Howard, 2014, p.279). However, women that were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. How A Newly Graduated Physiotherapist Can Prepare For... For students to graduate from a physiotherapy course, upto 1000 clinical hours needs to be completed (Dawson, Morris Wilson, 2014). In terms of clinical experience, as a graduate, 1000 hours are minimal in relation to the greater paradigms of development and clinical knowledge. The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy [CSP] (2013) clinical supervision guidelines promote the benefit of clinical supervision for new graduates in adhering to Health and Care Professionals Council [HCPC] (2012) expectations of improving professional development and profiling evidence. There are differences in supervision, development opportunities and senior support for newly qualified physiotherapists in the National Health Service (NHS) and private sector. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To prepare for employment, a new graduate can self analyse skills and clinical performance using models of analysis. Self analysis can take many forms, from the competency learning model to personal reflective writing. The purpose is to identify areas for skill development and use the models for improving knowledge (Higginson and Hicks, 2006). From this preparation, the individual can then appreciate the level of clinical supervision that will be required post graduation to support professional development and direct of job applications appropriately towards either the NHS or private sector. One model of self analysis that an individual can use is the four stages of competency. These four stages allow a person to identify the level currently at in relation to a specific skill and then over time chart the course of the development of the skills from incompetence to competence (Getha Taylor, Hummert, Nalbandian and Silvia, 2013). The four stages are: unconsciously incompetent, consciously incompetent, consciously competent and unconsciously competent (Getha Taylor et al, 2013). A new graduate usually is unconsciously incompetent as the individual is unaware of what is not known and lacks the knowledge of an experienced physiotherapist (Getha Taylor et al, 2013). In this case the structured clinical supervision of the NHS, discussed further below, would be beneficial in providing scope for progression and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Golden Age of Sail in Saint John Even as the Golden Age of Sail was coming to a close, Saint John had remained at the top the fourth largest shipbuilding center in the world and one of the greatest in North America. Their affluence took a turn during 1877, when the Great Fire of Saint John devastated the city. It shattered not only the lives of city shipbuilders and merchants, but crippled local citizens as well. Summers in Saint John were typically dry and muggy, though on June 20, 1877 there was an eerie uncharacteristic breeze. Although the cause of the original spark remains unknown, it is believed to have started from McLaughlan Son s boiler shop or from a nearby sawmill. As wood is a naturally rapid burning agent, it led to the quick demise of many wood built city structures. The structures in the Market Square area burnt rapidly destroying over 80 hectares (200 hundred acres) and 1612 structures including eight churches, six banks, fourteen hotels, eleven schooners and four woodboats in just over a nine hour period. It was a period of despair, as men and women were completely drained after dragging bedding, pieces of furniture and other articles through the streets, a vain task in many cases, as the new places of refuge sought out often proved as unsafe as those that were deserted. Several business owners and residents lost everything they had ÂŹ leaving many Saint John natives with nowhere to go. Could you believe the judge issued an injunction? What we once considered harmless childhood play is no longer allowed on our playgrounds. Seesaws, monkey bars, and merry go rounds are considered dangerous and a sign of the past. When considering the past, faith has been an integral part of how society functions. No matter what faith, lawsuits do not discriminate. Philip K. Howard stated, Nothing is sacred. Ministers now are increasingly told not to counsel troubled parishioners because, who knows, maybe someone will sue if the couple ends up getting divorced. How can we as fellow parishioners allow this to happen? When did we develop a fright for participating in a faith? Lets permit ministers to counsel as they have for centuries. Church and State have always been separate, lets keep it that way! Sociologist Orlando Patterson asked the question, Do you think whites are afraid of discrimination claims? Frozen with fear is more accurate. The sociologist observed, no Euro American person #8230;dare say what he or she really means. Anne experiences many moments of happiness, anger, sadness, and irritation that is caused by the other members of the annex. The van Daan family is the source of most irritation for little Anne Frank. Mrs. van Daan, to be specific, aggravates Anne the greatest. Mrs. van Daan regularly criticises the way Anne acts, speaks, does her chores, etc. Mrs. van Daan takes her opinions a little too far a majority of the time. Anne goes to sleep most nights with these thoughts in her head, Then I fall asleep with the strange feeling of wanting to be different than I am or being different than I want to be, or perhaps of behaving differently than I am or want to be (Frank 72).
