are naturally drawn to question why Anne is speaking so much.
More than this we must wonder, why Anne did not speak before this point? Throughout this book we
are given enough information to see that Anne speaks much less in comparison to all the other
characters, however we are never given anything to say why she is this way. One possible explanation
that we find in Chapter 1 is this description of her relationship with her father and sisters, her word
had no weight; her convenience was always to give way; she was only Anne. (Austen, 1817) This
seems like quite enough to keep someone from speaking up as much, knowing that they would always
get automatically shut down for being considered only Anne . This seems like a strange way for Anne
s own family to treat her. Given, Sir Walter is not known for being the father of the year, but he at least
treats his other two daughters with some form of fatherly love. The flaw in this though is that in the
very last published chapter it is said that Sir Walter, indeed, though he had no affection for Anne, and

Kay Trask was written in 1993. Trask wrote this paper to inform Americans about what she thinks of
tourism, a colonial imposition towards the Hawaiian culture. Trask incorporates ethos, pathos and
logos throughout her essay to show how tourism effects these three points in the Hawaiian culture:

The ability to understand other s differences is what we call acceptance. Accepting a person or a

way to happiness. The main idea of Sherman Alexie s story entitled What You Pawn I Will Redeem is
not let anyone or anything control, limit, repress or discourage you from being your true self because
only you can determine who you truly are as a person. Specifically in this story, the main character is
experiencing an identity crisis caused by the colonization of the White Folks. This story claims this
idea through symbolism to show the death of the Indian culture, through connotation to show the
differences between the past and the present Native Indians generation and through characterization to

Fearless And The American Dream
The novel Fearless by Eric Blehm tells the story of Adam Brown. Most people spend their entire lives
trying to achieve the American Dream. Our forefathers deemed this the pursuit of happiness in a
person s life and to make the most of America with the opportunities it holds. Adam accomplished the
American Dream at a very young age. Through his death, he made the ultimate sacrifice for his
country, and that is one of the reasons he is a true hero. Adam Brown achieved his American Dream
by overcoming drugs, becoming a father, and joining the Navy SEALS. Adam was an extraordinary
kid. He feared nothing. When he was two, he jumped 12 feet from the deck at his house (pg 13). He
played football, had amazing family and friends, and had his fair share of trouble. He always was kind
to everyone and stood up for the underdog (pg 25). All of his classmates and teachers adored him. The
worst mistake of his life started the first time he tried drugs (pg 44). This started a whirlwind of pain
and anxiety on all of Adam s family. Adam would disappear for long periods of time, steal from his
parents, and had many bad influences (pg 48). He hit the lowest of the low while at a party when he
stabbed himself in the neck (pg 55). This was very hard for everyone that knew Adam. He got sent to
a rehab facility and faced many challenges while he was there (pg 57). He finally got released out into
the real world after finishing the 12 step AA program (pg 58). Adam had many ups and downs after
this.

In life, people are given labels that society approves for them. Some may be given the label of enemy,
friend, loved one, or hero. What makes one a hero varies in cultures with opposing values. In the
novel, Things Fall Apart, written by Chinua Achebe, Okonkwo lives in pre colonial Nigeria in a clan
where he is considered a hero. While he is aggressive in nature partially due to the fact that his father
was soft and a man of no title Okonkwo is still considered a hero because in his clan, masculinity is
cherished most among men; specifically, Okonkwo is a tragic hero. Conversely, in the epic, The
Odyssey, written by Homer in ancient Greece, Odysseus is praised as a hero. Journeying home from
war, Odysseus overcomes obstacles with the help of Greek gods and entities, making him an epic
hero. Some may disagree, but Odysseus and Okonkwo are heroes in their own right. Though they are
both heroes, Okonkwo fits the structure of a tragic hero better than the epic hero, Odysseus.
A staple characteristic that tragic heroes have are the flaws that conquer them. Okonkwo s flaw that he
