Argumentative Essay On Deep Brain Stimulators
There are many illnesses, pertaining to both medical and psychological, that affect the health and
wellbeing of countless other people. Some examples of these types of diseases would be
Parkinson s disease and obsessive compulsive disorder. While the effects of the disease can be
suppressed by pharmaceutical means, there comes a point when medicine is simply not enough.
This in turn led to the usage of deep brain stimulators to help ameliorate problems that medicine
could not. Although implementing deep brain stimulators is a new procedure that has been in
practice since over twenty years ago, many experts agree that using them is not a panacea because
there can be many problems from them. Since deep brain stimulators are recently new in the
medical field, there are positive and negative effects still being discovered. To begin with,
according to an article written by Lyons, MD, Deep brain stimulation(DBS) has developed during
the past 20 years as a remarkable treatment option for several... Show more content on

There are two specific sites inside the brain have been most commonly targeted for deep brain
stimulation in Parkinson s disease are the subthalamic nucleus and the internal segment of the
globus pallidus (Okun 2012). Both are nuclei in the basal ganglia, where a majority of degenerative
change in Parkinson s disease occurs (Okun 2012). There are many adverse effects from having
deep brain stimulators implanted; the two that stand out are infection and intracranial hemorrhage.
These are a major problem as they can be the reason why deep brain stimulators are removed.
While deep brain stimulators can be very helpful, the safeness and outcome are not set in stone and

Summary Of Electroencephalogram (EEG)
Stage 1 is the Electroencephalogram (EEG). The EEG provides a summary of electro activity
from a certain area of the brain. The EEG is also the sum of the electrical activity of all neurons
between the two recording electrodes (Garrett,2015). Stage 1 is when one is feeling drowsy and
transitioning into a state of sleep (Thien Thanh Dang Vu, 2017). Stage 2 is the K complex. These
are sharp waves that happen at least once a minute. This stage characterizes the first stage of sleep.
Stage 2 has an appearance of spindles (Thien Thanh Dang Vu, 2017). Where the waves have a
gating function that help to prevent the unsettling stimuli from reaching the cortex part of the brain
that will in turn awaken the sleeper. Stage 3 is known as the slow wave

The Nuclear Bomb Of Hiroshima And Nagasaki Essay
The nuclear bombs code named Little Boy and Fat Man were detonated over the Japanese cities
of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during the summer of August 1945 by the United States of America
in an attempt to end World War II. The immediate death toll was extremely high with an
estimated 60,000 to 80,000 people killed upon impact of the bombs due to the extreme heat,
flying shrapnel, and the pressure of the blast wave. The overall death toll is now estimated to be
about 192,020 dead due to long term health effects such as radiation poisoning and burns. These
bombs also caused a multitude of long term medical and social problems for surviving victims
such as in utero mutations in future generations of children and a large percentage of homeless
citizens after the war. As a result of these bombs the Japanese emperor Hirohito accepted the
terms of the Potsdam Declaration ending World War II. These bombings remain the single most
horrific acts of warfare ever carried out on another country. Thousands of Japanese citizens were
immediately disintegrated upon impact of the bombs by the thermal radiation released near the
hypocenter or ground zero of the explosion, death rates decreasing the further out from the
hypocenter. Second and third degree burns on the flesh were a result of very high degrees of
thermal radiation on the human body and so only occurred within close proximity to the atomic
blast, that being around five miles. If these third and second degree burns covered only a

The History of Childresn Literature Essay
The History of Children s Literature EDP1: Task 1 Janet Blake Western Governors University
Children s literature is defined many different ways. It can be simply defined as a book that a
child reads, or as Kiefer defined it as the imaginative shaping of life and thought into the forms
and structures of language. (Kiefer, 2010, p.5) Literature has been around for hundreds of years,
although not in the form that we are used to seeing now. There have always been stories to be
told for as long as one can remember. Before the days of bound books and magazines, there were
stories that were told by people in the village around the campfires, or the bards and traveling
entertainers telling stories to the court in the castles. This form... Show more content on

(Kiefer, 2010, p.66) In the Middle Ages, children were treated as an adult in the family. Children
went out to work just as the parents did to help provide for the good of the family and to provide
for the family s needs, whether it was economically or material based. The prosperity of the
family came first. Because of this, many children were unable to read and were not provided
with a formal education. They were provided with the education that was needed to survive
everyday life and the education of religious beliefs. Books at this time cost too much for the
common family to own, and were very rare at this time in history. In 1476 William Claxton was
credited with learning the printing trade and taking it back to England with him and setting up a
printing press at Westminster. From there he published 106 books of various genres. The books
were put together with excellence, but were very costly, because of this they were owned mainly
by the wealthy. (Kiefer, 2010, p.69) It is visible at this point to see how valuable the printing press
really was. Due to the high expense that books were in this time, many did not own books because
they could not afford them. Others would trade their valuable land or property to own a single
book. The fifteenth through the sixteenth centuries brought more to children s literature. Children
made a progression from hornbooks, to ABC books and primers, to the small

Evolution Of Evolution Through Birds
Evolution Through Birds
Research on the origination of organismal life dates back to seventeenth century. In present day,
scientists are still discovering new concepts on the topic of evolution and adaptation on the
molecular level of science. Modern research topics have gone deeper into the molecular field to
better understand the evolution that took place within a species. Evolutionary biologists have begun
to research the genetic architecture of evolutionary adaptation and speciation.
Researchers seek to find answers to questions such as how large is the effect of specific genes and
what sort of changes result from certain genes. Birds have been an organism that researchers focus
on to understand key components in evolution because of their close relation to many different
species of animals.
Darwin s Finches
Charles Darwin began this revolutionary research by studying a group of finches on the
Galapagos Islands. His interest in the similarity between different species of finches led to the
understanding of evolution that scientists use as basis for modern day research. The beaks of
birds were Darwin s main focal point and continue to be the aspect that reveals most about
evolution and adaption. The reason for beaks importance in the evolution of birds is because of the
correlation between beak size and diet and survival, a relationship that Darwin discovered.
The morphology of these finches beaks was affected by the environment and what food supply

reviewed the health of sections 0 1050 ft of Traver Creek. Specifically gathering data on the
Benthic populations, as well as their Taxa. The class of 2016took detailed descriptions of the
physical appearance of the creek and surrounding areas. We even tested the water to find
necessary information on the health of the creek through our chemical tests. According to the
2016 Traver Creek Data of Sections 0 1050 ft Traver Creek is unhealthy. Averages of Traver Creek

In sections 0 1050 ft Bank Erosion, Habitat Diversity, and Embeddedness are lower than
preferred. Bank Erosion is at 2.3 out of 4, this proves that the sections banks are getting eroded
with particles dissolving into the waters. Traver Creeks Habitat Diversity grade is 2.5/4,
specifically this states that in some areas the vegetation is less diverse and cannot absorb
harmful chemicals before they get to the creek. These chemicals could harm the organisms
greatly in the Creek. Embeddedness which displaces many organisms by removing their natural
habitat, is at 2.7/4. This is strips many organisms of their grounds and nests as is becomes more
and more scarce. The flow rate is at 2.22 ft/s this is a safe speed for the Creek it s not too fast that
organisms get flushed downstream and it s not too slow that the organisms will suffocate. Once
again, but more importantly buffers need to be set in place to stop runoff from getting into the
Creek to prevent high bank erosion and

Industrial Revolutions During Europe During The Industrial...
Industrial Revolution in Europe
Before the industrial revolution, Europe was mostly dominated by farmers but as the industrial
revolution progressed this changed dramatically. Industrial revolution had a significant impact in
the process by making new demands that shaped the way of life through increased competition and
technological innovation. Generally, it was a historical period that sparked in a stroke a number
numerous changes in the economic, social and political dimensions. It is considered as a period
that made the biggest impact on 19th century Europe considering that it was the period that the
countries realized significant progress that shaped their economies in great details with nationalism
and imperialism as well being direct impacts of the revolution.
Not many could have anticipated the rapid rise of the European industry that was realized from
industrial revolution. As a note, dominance in wage labor, rapid growth of cities and evolution of
industries mostly from steel and iron factories were perhaps the greatest changes that were
experienced. In economic changes, manifestations were evident through the increased rates of
immigration to better places, rapid growth of cities as centers of trade and changes in the type of
work and working structures. Socially, reorganization of family was experienced as well as changes
in ownership of jobs, rural to urban migration as well as where and when to work (Lynn et al. 413

Hospice Care
Hospice Care LaToya L. Howard HCS/212 January 1, 2013 Denise Brown
I first heard about hospice from a co worker a few years ago when that co worker was preparing
to check her mother in hospice and she was in her forties. As she discussed with me her mother had
a drug addiction problem her entire life. At that time I had never heard about hospice and I became
interested in learning more about it. Hospice is a special concept of care designed to provide
comfort and support to patients and their families. Patients are referred to hospice when life
expectancy is approximately six months or less. Hospice care can continue longer than six months if

In the article it was stated in 2005, about 82% of people who were receiving hospice care were
white and about 7% identified themselves were black. There are more female patients who
receive hospice care than male according to this article stated above. I can remember over the
years, even today it has been known that women life span is longer than males and this
information I found surprised me a bit. Most of the patients who receive hospice care are elderly
patients as I mentioned before. On web site www.nhpco.org it states that the percentage of
patient ethnicity since 2010 was 94% of non Hispanic or Latino origin and 5.7% were Hispanic
or Latino origin who received hospice care. The overall purpose of the hospice program is to
provide comfort and care to enable the patient to enjoy their last days to the fullest. Hospice is
not an organization to cure patients but to make their life a little more easily. Their volunteers are
there in support not only for the patient but the patient s family. Arnold, R (2012) states
depending on the patients religious or spiritual beliefs; hospice will provide the patient with the
correct support team to allow the patient to be in a familiar setting. In addition to this, there are
aides to help the patient with the patient needs such as getting out of bed, bathing, and dressing.
My main reason for choosing to research information regarding this agency is because I knew a

Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vennegut
The devastation caused by war in Slaughterhouse five Slaughterhouse Five is an anti war novel by
Kurt Vonnegut (November 11, 1922 April 11, 2007), one of the most inspirational twentieth
century American writers. This book is unique in the fact that it can be classified as historical
fiction, science fiction and an autobiography (certain parts of the protagonist s life are similar to
Vonnegut s life) at the same time. Slaughterhouse Five follows the life and journeys of Billy Pilgrim
, the main character in this non linear novel. Billy has lived his life as a social outcast, a
stereotypically weak and unpopular boy. He is a joke of a soldier when he is drafted into the

We know this because he starts making up stories about aliens called Tralfamadorians, who
supposedly abducted him and actress Montana Wildhack (who has actually died/is missing in
real life). His insanity reaches a fever point when he starts talking in gibberish like language.
The Tralfamadorians tried to give Billy clues that would help him imagine sex in the invisible
dimension. They told him that there could be no Earthling babies without male homosexuals.
There could be babies without female homosexuals. There couldn t be babies without women
over sixty five years old. There could be babies without men over sixty five years. There couldn t
be babies without other babies who had lived an hour or less after birth. And so on. It was
gibberish to Billy (Vonnegut 114). This tells us that Billy has been the victim of a dramatic
downward spiral that started from when he saw the remnants of what had been the glorious city of
Dresden. He has reached an advanced stage in his mental illness as he has already started talking
about things that he himself thinks make no sense. This furthermore shows us that war can be
devastating as many veterans in real life, like Billy, suffer from mental distress that is very similar
to this.
Another way that Vonnegut takes an effective stand В¬against the destruction caused by war is the
use of Symbols and Symbolism. A lot of the symbols in Slaughterhouse Five are so subtle В¬that
they are sometimes unrecognizable. However, their

A Market Based Approach For Community Development Essay
Community is established locally but community development is a process that includes actors
from inside and outside of the community to achieve sustainability. My previous essays have
addressed the progression of community development from place based attachment, organizing and
advocacy to addressing the need and effect of government involvement. The final stop on the
continuum of the communitydevelopment is to analyze market based approaches to community
development. This paper will look at how a market based approach to community development is an
important component of community development because it is the appropriate response to the
current socio economic, and political context that our country is in. A market based approach
provides a mechanism to define relationships and allocate economic resources to create systemic
change within communities. increasing opportunities for social inclusion and economic
sustainability
Social Sustainability
1.True community development exemplifies the relationship between the local actor and the
interconnectedness that needs to exist to accomplish change.
Market based approaches to community development involve those who participate in the social
economy i.e. cooperatives, social enterprises etc. Locally tied, these market based approaches tap
into social capital as key business practice. Broadly speaking most cooperatives would not succeed
if it were not for the collective membership of the local community. Cooperatives

What Is The Forced Nature Of Assimilation
In her short story collection, Interpreter of Maladies, Jhumpa Lahiri depicts various scenarios of
Indian immigrants moving to and living in the United States. A particularly salient theme discussed
throughout is the issue of assimilation vs. integration. Though the terms are often considered
interchangeable, in this book assimilation argues for adoption of American culture. Conversely,
integration advocates for the coexistence of foreign and American customs and allows immigrants
to establish a sense of home away from their original countries. The story entitled, The Third and
Final Continent specifically recounts a young Indian man s experience trying to establish himself in
Cambridge, Massachusetts after living in London. Prior to his immigration, the narrator had his
marriage arranged by his family in Calcutta, and much of the story illustrates the narrator s
apprehension for his wife, Mala s arrival from India. Recognizing that food is a significant aspect of
most cultures, Lahiri uses it as a motif to indicate the transformation of the narrator s cultural status
in the United States. Through food, she ultimately asserts the possibility of positive integration,
rather than just assimilation, into American society.
Lahiri demonstrates the forced nature of assimilation through the narrator s relationship with
American food. When the narrator first arrives in Cambridge and checks in at the YMCA, he

Improvements in self management (SM) as a result of an evidence based depression care

Mental Health In J. C. Burke s The Story Of Tom Brennan
J.C. Burke s coming of age novel The Story of Tom Brennan construes the evolving life of Tom
Brennan after a tragic accident. Narrating in a first person point of view, Tom guides the reader
through the raw details of his inner conflict and finding his way back to being a better version of
himself. This essay aims to analyse the author s portrayal of mental health, internal conflictand the
effects of grief, loss and tragedythat are presented through each of the characters troubled
perspectives.
J.C Burke conveys the theme of mental health through Tom s view of Daniel. Daniel is in jail.
Confined to a cell and trapped with the thoughts of the accident he caused, Daniel is helpless. The
major impact he caused on Fin s life proves to traumatise him more than anything else. Because
even though Daniel is confined to a cell, Fin is confined to a wheelchair. Never to walk on his
own two feet again. When talking to Tom about the harshness of it all, Daniel was crying as he said,

Burke illustrates Tom s inner conflict with first person narration. The guilt he feels over the
inactivity he had on the night of the incident, his frustration with Kylie and the added guilt he
exhibits because he feels sorry for himself all adds up to his conflicted thoughts. Tom doesn t
know or feel like himself anymore. But Burke brings this to the attention of the reader in a good
light when Tom thinks, But now I knew what I missed most. I missed me, Tom Brennan, and that s
why now I could smile, cause I could see he was coming back. Thus, when J.C. Burke aptly finishes
the book with the line that was the morning Tom Brennan came back, forever, the true development
in Tom s character and conflict is shown through the employment of first person narration.

Similarities Between Darwin And Primates
How life on Earth started is one of the most enigmatic subject discussed around the world.
Charles Darwin was born February 12, 1909, he was from Shrewsbury, Shropshire England. He
was the fifth child of six children, had a father who was a wealthy doctor and a mother who was a
financier and although his family was Unitarian Darwin attended the Anglican Shrewsbury School.
In 1825, Charles Darwinbecame an apprentice doctor at the University of Edinburgh Medical
school, but sadly he did not like the work involved and not interest after a while. Darwin had great

One of Darwin s most famous saying is Humans descended from primates , meaning we evolved
over time. Darwin first states that The similarity between the human skeleton and the skeletons of
other animals was notorious . Scientists had even seen a similarity between the human brain and
that of an orangutan. He mentions the diseases humans can catch from other animals and human
illnesses which monkeys also suffer from including apoplexy, inflammation of the bowels, and
cataract in the eye. He also mentions that monkeys can develop a liking for tea, coffee, and
spirituous liquors and that he has seen monkeys smoke tobacco with pleasure. Other similarities
between man and monkeys include: manner of reproduction, including prenatal development,
helplessness of infants, difference in size and strength between male and female, issue structure,
and male nipples . These similarities show accurately why he would say humans descended from

Personal Narrative-Track Journey
When first thinking about my greatest achievement throughout high school I got stuck. I sat long
and hard thinking about what moment throughout my entire high school career was I most proud
at being myself. The moment that I will forever be the most proud of myself comes from my
junior year track season. In general, my junior year track season was arguably one of my best
running season in my career for running. But, the city meet 800m race that season shined the
brightest out of everything. In Livonia, Michigan, we have three different public high schools. So,
once a year we get all the schools together and run a big meet against one another. During this
season, I started to get confident in my running ability and ran my race instead of running... Show

During that race, I pulled off the fastest 800m time I have ever ran coming up to that race. So, I
was feeling on top of the world excited to go run the open 800m. When I got my position on the
starting line, I was lined up to a boy named Will Hengy. The week before the city meet my school
had a dual meet against the school he runs for. During the open 800m race that meet, him and I
were shoulder to shoulder coming down to the last 100m of the race and he barely beat me by
0.2 of a second. After that race I told myself in my mind I would never let myself lose a close
race to him ever again. Seeing him lined up right next to me with a #1 on his shoulder and my
shoulder only having a #5 on it made me mad. The gun goes off and the race begins. After the
first 400m of the race in I was in 3rd place right next to Will. This position felt bitter sweet and I
knew I had to come through this time around. It was almost like deja vu, when we hit the 700m
part of the race Will and I were shoulder to shoulder once again. This time though I would not
expect losing to him and beat him by 0.02 of a second and took 2nd place in the

Analysis Of A Pair Of Silk Stockings
Everyone can be a little greedy sometimes, even if people usually tend to save money, or bargon.
In a short story by Kate Chopin called A Pair of Silk Stockings, the main character named Mrs
Sommer s is given 15$, and was suppose to spend the money on her children for clothes, but instead
spended it on herself for a pair of silkstockings. Mrs. Sommer s catches herself looking at a pair
of silk stocking s while out shopping, and is suppose to be getting clothes and such for her
children. But what really happens is she lets her temptation get the best of her, and she ends up
buying the socks for herself instead. Once she gets the socks she then wants more and more and
even go out to a fancy restaurant, some boots, and even theatre tickets. But once she leaves the
theatre, it then hit her that she has to go home to her children in which she did not get them the
things she promised them. A dominant theme that Kate Chopin develops in the story focuses
around thoughts and conditions of the past. She shows in the story that Mrs. Sommer s has a
normal daily routine, and a boring lifestyle. The day she saw the silk stockings, she focused on
only herself when usually she always cares for her children. Throughout the short story, A Pair of
Silk Stockings, Kate Chopin uses figurative language and conflict to develop the theme of thoughts
and conditions of the past. Figurative language can emphasize the meaning of a short story when
developed correctly. Chopin develops figurative language to show Mrs. Sommer s selfishness for
the short story.
The story shows figurative language by using things like a metaphor when describing how the
main character feels. The author shows figurative language when it says She smiled just as if she
had been asked to inspect of a tiara made of diamonds. (Chopin 438)
This quote represents the theme of thoughts and conditions of the past because Mrs. Sommer s is
a bargainer with herself and children, and never spends a lot of money or buys expensive things.
She tends to go on the cheaper side, and go to places like thrift stores, or buys discounts. So when
she sees the silk stockings, it was a luxury for her, something special that she use to have.

Objectives Of Management By Objectives
A good management system is essential to run an organization effectively. One main strategy to run
a good management system is through the use of a famous management module, management by
objectives (MBO) that proposed by Peter Drucker (Drucker, 1954). This module has remained
popular and compelling method for achieving goals. As Daft (2012) explained, managementby
objectives is a system whereby managers and the employees define goals for every department,
project, and use them to monitor the organization s subsequent performance (p. 194). The
management by objectives is a management ideology which is used by Peter Drucker who states
that the management based on setting up objectives and self control are understood as a philosophy
of management (Kralev, 2011). Management by objectives is... Show more content on

After setting the organizational objectives as explained in the first step previously, the objectives

Chapter 2 Samuel 11-12 Explain And Show The Nature Of God
Interpretation of the text
The chapters, 2 Samuel 11 12, explain and show the nature of humans and the nature of God as
well. David is used as an example in these chapters as someone who falls short of temptation while
being highly favored by God. David was doing everything right and was rewarded for it. David was
granted everything he could possibly want and it was well deserved from his good intentions and
morals. When David all of a sudden sees a beautiful woman bathing, he feels like he can justify
himself as someone who is deserving of her knowing that she is married to a friend and soldier.
Uriah was in battle fighting and David impregnates his wife, Bathsheba. David immediately orders
Uriah to come home so that he can cover up his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
God favors David greatly and it is obvious in the Old Testament especially in Acts 13:22 when
He says that David is a man after my own heart . It is amazing to see God love, forgive and care
for someone you has committed such harsh sins as David. After the parable, God continues to
speak through Nathan by asking David how he could despise him like that after all the things
that God has done for him. God punishes David by condemning his house and wives, and then
tells him his child he had with Bathsheba will die. David confesses, I have sinned against the
Lord , and Nathan tells David, now the Lord has put away your sin; you shall not die . In Arnold
s Commentary it says because of Yahweh s nature, sin has a limited life span, but love lasts
forever. This is translated as having consequences for sins, being forgiven for them and no
matter what always being loved by God because God s love is eternal. I think in that day and age
one couldn t just be forgiven for one s sins but also have to make amends for them. There are
debates on whether there is a punishment for one s sins and unfortunately this intention or idea
doesn t make a lot of sense to us today because of our law and commandments. Some scholars
think that the overall sequence and series of struggle that David deals with later on is part of the
divine punishment. This would make a lot of sense that the death of David and Bathsheba s child
was because of the adultery that David had committed. The punishment of David s house would
also make sense and have to do with David getting Uriah killed intentionally. These events were the
outcome of David s sins. When reading the scripture and commentaries, we should see this as the
overall punishment of God. One wouldn t second guess the judgment of the Lord but there are
moments where actions can be called upon for

The Victory Song Of Devorah Essay
INTRODUCTION TO THE PROPHETS SEFER SHOFTIM Sefer Shoftim The Victory Song of
Devorah by Shani Berg I will be discussing the Victory Song of Devorah in the fifth chapter of
Sefer Shoftim. Not at all like Sefer Yehoshua, our book introduces an extremely unsympathetic
depiction of the general population of Israel, for it accuses them of inappropriate behavior against
G d, and afterward starkly portrays the results of the Divine displeasure which unavoidably follows.
Most likely the conditions were troublesome. The moderately short and grisly wars of triumph were
long over while the considerable and augmented assignment of settlement still posed a potential
threat before the general population, testing their physical strength as well as their good and
profound fiber too. Gradually, they cleared the scantily settled slope nation and built up themselves
in the more prolific and populated valleys, and wherever they were ceaselessly gone up against with
the unpropitious decision of either restricting their Canaanite adversaries with their polytheistic and
relativistic ways or else obliging or notwithstanding grasping them. A large portion of the tribes
generally picked the last mentioned. By giving reprieve to the Canaanites and to their ethically
degenerate courses Israel pursued calamity, annihilation and destruction. In any case, however the
general population strayed from God and were rebuffed appropriately, unfailingly they soon shouted

processes. Firstly, this essay provides an overview of mediationand its role in land use planning
disputes. Next, this paper lists the knowledge and training required for effective mediation

A Research Study On Abstract- Vehicular Networks Essay
Abstract Vehicular networks or VANET announce as the communication networks of the future,
where the mobility is the main idea. These networks should be able to interconnect vehicles. The
optimal goal is that these networks will contribute to safer roads and more effective in the future by
providing timely information to drivers and concerned authorities. They are therefore vulnerable to
many types of attacks among them the black hole attack. In this attack, a malicious node
disseminates spurious replies for any route discovery in order to monopolize all data
communication and deteriorate network performance. Many studies have focused on detecting and
isolating malicious nodes in VANET. In this paper, we present two mechanisms to detect this
attack. The main goal is detecting as well as bypass cooperative black hole attack. Our approachs
has been evaluated by the detailed simulation study with NS2 and the simulation results shows an
improvement of protocol performance. .

I.INTRODUCTION
Ad hoc networks consist of a set of self organized of mobile nodes which cooperate using a routing
protocol to facilitate the communication. They have become very popular in recent years due to
their characteristics: easy deployment, lack of infrastructure, dynamic topology, mobility and
minimum commissioning costs.
A VANET network is a subset of ad hoc networks where each mobile node is an intelligent vehicle

Similarities and Differences Between Polly and Jessie...
Polly and Jessie Wilson both have many similarities and differences in the book The Secret Lives
of Sgt. John Wilson. First, both of these characters stay dedicated to John Wilson throughout the

John is doing anything wrong. Third, Polly and Jessie are both married at a young age, which
doesn t give them time to experience life before dedicating themselves to this man. Fourth, both
believe every word of Johns, without question or second thoughts. In terms of differences, Polly

people with regards to their naivety, innocence, and dedication, but quite different in terms of

Mary writes letters to Jessie talking about how she is dying and is extremely happy for Jessie and

How White People Became White
How White People Became White
Paula S. Rothenberg
William Paterson University of New Jersey
Abstract Biologically speaking, it s just as possible for a given white person in Florida to have
genetics similar to his neighbor down the street as it would be for the same white person to have
genetics similar to a black person in Nigeria. We could just as easily disregard skin color and pay
attention to hair and/or eye color. Sociologists make this claim because they argue that the
definition of what constitutes a race is something that is arbitrarily decided by society.
Additionally, what it means to classify yourself or someone else as a particular race carries social

Whiteness refers to a historical systemic structural race based superiority (Philip C. Wander).
You might think that because skin color was so central to the law, that whiteness and blackness
were carefully defined and easy to understand. They were defined by law, but they were not easy
to understand in practice. The inferior were, by God s will, destined to be enslaved by the
superior. Slave property became totally identified with people who happened to have black skin,
the color that had always horrified the West (Kovel, 1984, p.21). Abraham Lincoln believed in the
racial superiority of white people, although he felt blacks should be paid a fair day s wage for
their work. People in the South thought he was an abolitionist in disguise. The confusion and
the horror surrounding these complexities emerged, after the Civil War, in Jim Crow laws
designed to keep the races apart. The law, pressured by the leaky nature of racial categories,
devised a one drop theory if you had one drop of non white blood in your veins, you could not
qualify as white. Throughout our history, whiteness has legally speaking, been a form of property
(Harris amp; Wander 1971) In the twentieth century, these fears gained a great deal of social
legitimacy thanks to the efforts of an influential network of aristocrats and scientists who developed
theories of eugenics breeding for a better humanity and scientific racism. Key to these efforts was

led to the unveiling of traits that may describe a traitor . Adelard was viewed as a traitor to the
French Canadians for multiple reason but mostly for trying to conscript them into the war, and
his good relationship with Mackenzie King. His action to send a military to fight Hitler was
derived from the Nazi s saying: To conquer Eastern Canada, we must subjugate French Canadians

Who Is Lily s Objectification In The House Of Mirth
Despite their untruthfulness, they still make a large impact on the lives of the aristocracy.
People treat them like truth, which causes them to almost become a truth themselves. The myths
of the aristocracy make a large impact on the lives they define, usually in a negative way. They
make their victims feel confined to these myths even if they are positive. They create an
environment where everyone treats these people like the myths, which they inhabit. The myth
becomes more human than the actual person. The myths arise from one small fact then
speculation and assumption come and transform the fib into reality. One of the most significant
myths in the novel is the idea that Lily is an object. It follows her where ever she goes in her
society and warps people s actions directed towards her. In The House of Mirth by Edith
Wharton the myth of Lily being an object makes people treat her like a decoration or a prize to

The US strategy to achieve the goals was demilitarization, disarmament, and democratization.
Before the US occupation, Japan had a fascist regime, which was an obstruction to democracy since
authoritarianism did not accept democratic ideals. With authoritarianism in Japan, parliaments did
not control government; national economic development was pursued; and militarism was a major
instrument in foreign policy. It was important to work towards the goal of reconstructing fascist
regime and ideology to introduce democracy. The US occupation in Japan was successful in that it

that the US stipulated had the political rationale to create anti communist society in Japan. Similar
to the Philippines, the education reform was significant means to create a democratic and peaceful
Japan. Japanese previous education system supported militarism in the curriculum. Therefore, the

Andrew Kennedy s Article On Credibility Of The Author
Article No.: 4
Credibility of the author:
The author of this source is Chloe Kennedy, a regarded journalist with over 650 articles written
spanning over 16 years. Within this vast experience, she has worked for numerous publications,
with the City Messenger, the Leader Messenger, The Advertiser, the News Review Messenger
and the Standard Messenger being some of the few. Being so widely read, it is likely that this
will increase the reliability of her work; mistakes are less likely where a reputation may be
implicated. However, though the City Messenger appears to be a legitimate newspaper, by nature
such articles may not always be fully reliable, and this must be taken into consideration. As no more
information could be gathered about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Opposing opinion was that residential heritage properties were of the high value that their owners
had paid a premium to secure.
Heritage buildings have higher capital growth than newer properties, as they are not competitors of
newer developments.
Most heritage listed homes should achieve an increase in value, provided they are well maintained.
Residents themselves consider a listed home to be of higher value, and want to see their homes and
other heritage homes preserved.
However, possible decreases in value as a result of development prohibition could also stem from
heritage legislation.
Any loss in value because of listing could be offset by grants from the government available
specifically for this purpose.
Evaluation of information:
This article s primary sources are the opinions of government candidates, and it provides no
evidence as to the validity of these statements, other than corroboration between the four men. As
such, it has unsubstantiated opinion, a detriment to reliability.
Although the amount of research conducted is valid to the nature of the source, it is insufficient for
in depth study purposes. There are no official studies or other valid sources used in this article and
a bibliography, naturally, is not provided.
The arguments are concluded well from the information that is presented, and it carries

  • 2. Argumentative Essay On Deep Brain Stimulators There are many illnesses, pertaining to both medical and psychological, that affect the health and wellbeing of countless other people. Some examples of these types of diseases would be Parkinson s disease and obsessive compulsive disorder. While the effects of the disease can be suppressed by pharmaceutical means, there comes a point when medicine is simply not enough. This in turn led to the usage of deep brain stimulators to help ameliorate problems that medicine could not. Although implementing deep brain stimulators is a new procedure that has been in practice since over twenty years ago, many experts agree that using them is not a panacea because there can be many problems from them. Since deep brain stimulators are recently new in the medical field, there are positive and negative effects still being discovered. • 4. The Nuclear Bomb Of Hiroshima And Nagasaki Essay The nuclear bombs code named Little Boy and Fat Man were detonated over the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during the summer of August 1945 by the United States of America in an attempt to end World War II. The immediate death toll was extremely high with an estimated 60,000 to 80,000 people killed upon impact of the bombs due to the extreme heat, flying shrapnel, and the pressure of the blast wave. The overall death toll is now estimated to be about 192,020 dead due to long term health effects such as radiation poisoning and burns. These bombs also caused a multitude of long term medical and social problems for surviving victims such as in utero mutations in future generations of children and a large percentage of homeless citizens after the war. As a result of these bombs the Japanese emperor Hirohito accepted the terms of the Potsdam Declaration ending World War II. These bombings remain the single most horrific acts of warfare ever carried out on another country. Thousands of Japanese citizens were immediately disintegrated upon impact of the bombs by the thermal radiation released near the hypocenter or ground zero of the explosion, death rates decreasing the further out from the hypocenter. • 5. The History of Childresn Literature Essay The History of Children s Literature EDP1: Task 1 Janet Blake Western Governors University Children s literature is defined many different ways. It can be simply defined as a book that a child reads, or as Kiefer defined it as the imaginative shaping of life and thought into the forms and structures of language. (Kiefer, 2010, p.5) Literature has been around for hundreds of years, although not in the form that we are used to seeing now. There have always been stories to be told for as long as one can remember. Before the days of bound books and magazines, there were stories that were told by people in the village around the campfires, or the bards and traveling entertainers telling stories to the court in the castles. Children went out to work just as the parents did to help provide for the good of the family and to provide for the family s needs, whether it was economically or material based. The prosperity of the family came first. Because of this, many children were unable to read and were not provided with a formal education. They were provided with the education that was needed to survive everyday life and the education of religious beliefs. Books at this time cost too much for the common family to own, and were very rare at this time in history. In 1476 William Claxton was credited with learning the printing trade and taking it back to England with him and setting up a printing press at Westminster. From there he published 106 books of various genres. The books were put together with excellence, but were very costly, because of this they were owned mainly by the wealthy. (Kiefer, 2010, p.69) It is visible at this point to see how valuable the printing press really was. Due to the high expense that books were in this time, many did not own books because they could not afford them. Others would trade their valuable land or property to own a single book. The fifteenth through the sixteenth centuries brought more to children s literature. Children made a progression from hornbooks, to ABC books and primers, to the small ... • 6. Evolution Of Evolution Through Birds Evolution Through Birds Research on the origination of organismal life dates back to seventeenth century. In present day, scientists are still discovering new concepts on the topic of evolution and adaptation on the molecular level of science. Modern research topics have gone deeper into the molecular field to better understand the evolution that took place within a species. Evolutionary biologists have begun to research the genetic architecture of evolutionary adaptation and speciation. Researchers seek to find answers to questions such as how large is the effect of specific genes and what sort of changes result from certain genes. Birds have been an organism that researchers focus on to understand key components in evolution because of their close relation to many different species of animals. Darwin s Finches Charles Darwin began this revolutionary research by studying a group of finches on the Galapagos Islands. His interest in the similarity between different species of finches led to the understanding of evolution that scientists use as basis for modern day research. The beaks of birds were Darwin s main focal point and continue to be the aspect that reveals most about evolution and adaption. The reason for beaks importance in the evolution of birds is because of the correlation between beak size and diet and survival, a relationship that Darwin discovered. The morphology of these finches beaks was affected by the environment and what food supply Albert 2 was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Not many could have anticipated the rapid rise of the European industry that was realized from industrial revolution. As a note, dominance in wage labor, rapid growth of cities and evolution of industries mostly from steel and iron factories were perhaps the greatest changes that were experienced. In economic changes, manifestations were evident through the increased rates of immigration to better places, rapid growth of cities as centers of trade and changes in the type of work and working structures. • 16. What Is The Forced Nature Of Assimilation In her short story collection, Interpreter of Maladies, Jhumpa Lahiri depicts various scenarios of Indian immigrants moving to and living in the United States. A particularly salient theme discussed throughout is the issue of assimilation vs. integration. Though the terms are often considered interchangeable, in this book assimilation argues for adoption of American culture. Conversely, integration advocates for the coexistence of foreign and American customs and allows immigrants to establish a sense of home away from their original countries. The story entitled, The Third and Final Continent specifically recounts a young Indian man s experience trying to establish himself in Cambridge, Massachusetts after living in London. Prior to his immigration, the narrator had his marriage arranged by his family in Calcutta, and much of the story illustrates the narrator s apprehension for his wife, Mala s arrival from India. Recognizing that food is a significant aspect of most cultures, Lahiri uses it as a motif to indicate the transformation of the narrator s cultural status in the United States. Through food, she ultimately asserts the possibility of positive integration, rather than just assimilation, into American society. Throughout the short story, A Pair of Silk Stockings, Kate Chopin uses figurative language and conflict to develop the theme of thoughts and conditions of the past. Figurative language can emphasize the meaning of a short story when developed correctly. Chopin develops figurative language to show Mrs. Sommer s selfishness for the short story. The story shows figurative language by using things like a metaphor when describing how the main character feels. The author shows figurative language when it says She smiled just as if she had been asked to inspect of a tiara made of diamonds. (Chopin 438) This quote represents the theme of thoughts and conditions of the past because Mrs. Sommer s is a bargainer with herself and children, and never spends a lot of money or buys expensive things. She tends to go on the cheaper side, and go to places like thrift stores, or buys discounts. So when she sees the silk stockings, it was a luxury for her, something special that she use to have. ... • 25. Objectives Of Management By Objectives A good management system is essential to run an organization effectively. One main strategy to run a good management system is through the use of a famous management module, management by objectives (MBO) that proposed by Peter Drucker (Drucker, 1954). This module has remained popular and compelling method for achieving goals. As Daft (2012) explained, managementby objectives is a system whereby managers and the employees define goals for every department, project, and use them to monitor the organization s subsequent performance (p. 194). The management by objectives is a management ideology which is used by Peter Drucker who states that the management based on setting up objectives and self control are understood as a philosophy of management (Kralev, 2011). While developing an organizational action plan, there are few things that need consideration. David is used as an example in these chapters as someone who falls short of temptation while being highly favored by God. David was doing everything right and was rewarded for it. David was granted everything he could possibly want and it was well deserved from his good intentions and morals. When David all of a sudden sees a beautiful woman bathing, he feels like he can justify himself as someone who is deserving of her knowing that she is married to a friend and soldier. God favors David greatly and it is obvious in the Old Testament especially in Acts 13:22 when He says that David is a man after my own heart . It is amazing to see God love, forgive and care for someone you has committed such harsh sins as David. After the parable, God continues to speak through Nathan by asking David how he could despise him like that after all the things that God has done for him. God punishes David by condemning his house and wives, and then tells him his child he had with Bathsheba will die. David confesses, I have sinned against the Lord , and Nathan tells David, now the Lord has put away your sin; you shall not die . In Arnold s Commentary it says because of Yahweh s nature, sin has a limited life span, but love lasts forever. This is translated as having consequences for sins, being forgiven for them and no matter what always being loved by God because God s love is eternal. I think in that day and age one couldn t just be forgiven for one s sins but also have to make amends for them. There are debates on whether there is a punishment for one s sins and unfortunately this intention or idea doesn t make a lot of sense to us today because of our law and commandments. Some scholars think that the overall sequence and series of struggle that David deals with later on is part of the divine punishment. This would make a lot of sense that the death of David and Bathsheba s child was because of the adultery that David had committed. The punishment of David s house would also make sense and have to do with David getting Uriah killed intentionally. These events were the outcome of David s sins. When reading the scripture and commentaries, we should see this as the overall punishment of God. One wouldn t second guess the judgment of the Lord but there are moments where actions can be called upon for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Victory Song Of Devorah Essay INTRODUCTION TO THE PROPHETS SEFER SHOFTIM Sefer Shoftim The Victory Song of Devorah by Shani Berg I will be discussing the Victory Song of Devorah in the fifth chapter of Sefer Shoftim. Not at all like Sefer Yehoshua, our book introduces an extremely unsympathetic depiction of the general population of Israel, for it accuses them of inappropriate behavior against G d, and afterward starkly portrays the results of the Divine displeasure which unavoidably follows. Most likely the conditions were troublesome. The moderately short and grisly wars of triumph were long over while the considerable and augmented assignment of settlement still posed a potential threat before the general population, testing their physical strength as well as their good and profound fiber too. Gradually, they cleared the scantily settled slope nation and built up themselves in the more prolific and populated valleys, and wherever they were ceaselessly gone up against with the unpropitious decision of either restricting their Canaanite adversaries with their polytheistic and relativistic ways or else obliging or notwithstanding grasping them. A large portion of the tribes generally picked the last mentioned. By giving reprieve to the Canaanites and to their ethically degenerate courses Israel pursued calamity, annihilation and destruction. In any case, however the general population strayed from God and were rebuffed appropriately, unfailingly they soon shouted out to Him for help from their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The optimal goal is that these networks will contribute to safer roads and more effective in the future by providing timely information to drivers and concerned authorities. They are therefore vulnerable to many types of attacks among them the black hole attack. In this attack, a malicious node disseminates spurious replies for any route discovery in order to monopolize all data communication and deteriorate network performance. We could just as easily disregard skin color and pay attention to hair and/or eye color. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whiteness refers to a historical systemic structural race based superiority (Philip C. Wander). You might think that because skin color was so central to the law, that whiteness and blackness were carefully defined and easy to understand. They were defined by law, but they were not easy to understand in practice. The inferior were, by God s will, destined to be enslaved by the superior. Slave property became totally identified with people who happened to have black skin, the color that had always horrified the West (Kovel, 1984, p.21). Abraham Lincoln believed in the racial superiority of white people, although he felt blacks should be paid a fair day s wage for their work. People in the South thought he was an abolitionist in disguise. The confusion and the horror surrounding these complexities emerged, after the Civil War, in Jim Crow laws designed to keep the races apart. The law, pressured by the leaky nature of racial categories, devised a one drop theory if you had one drop of non white blood in your veins, you could not qualify as white. Throughout our history, whiteness has legally speaking, been a form of property (Harris amp; Wander 1971) In the twentieth century, these fears gained a great deal of social legitimacy thanks to the efforts of an influential network of aristocrats and scientists who developed theories of eugenics breeding for a better humanity and scientific racism. Adelard was viewed as a traitor to the French Canadians for multiple reason but mostly for trying to conscript them into the war, and his good relationship with Mackenzie King.
