Cleofilas Is A Feminist Analysis
In Mexican culture, women are expected to marry a man then stay at home to care for the kids while
the husband is at work. Women are taught to be dependent on a man in their lives, thus they never
really learn what it is to be feminist. This is very similar to what Cleofilas believes, which she learned
from her family and telenovelas. Therefore, Cleofilas does not understand feminist ideologies and
wants to marry a man to care for her. Although from her background, Cleofilas is clearly not a
feminist as she endeavors to make a home, she is able to observe or visit the feminine perspective
through her struggles.
As she grew up watching telenovelas, Cleofilas witnessed many scenes involving domestic abuse. She
watched on television as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She is willing to stand up to her spouse in order to make sure there are no complications during the
birth of her second child. She is slowly realizing what it is to be feminist due to the fact that she is
willing to try anything to convince Juan Pedro. Although she agrees to lie about her bruises saying she
fell down the front steps (Cisneros, 226), it is a step in the right direction to feminism. Ultimately, the
visit to the doctor allows her to receive help. She is given a chance to escape. She accepts the
opportunity as she begins to find out that she no longer has to take the abuse from Juan Pedro.
By the end of the story, Cleofilas is able to witness feminism in the form of another woman, Felice.
Upon leaving Juan Pedro to return to her family, she meets Felice. Felice gives Cleofilas the ride to
the bus station to escape from Juan Pedro. Cleofilas was shocked by the idea of Felice, a woman who
drove a pickup... and didn t have a husband (Cisneros, 228). Cleofilas has an epiphany and realizes
that she could be independent. She would no longer have to rely on a man to support her and her
children. Also, as Felice screams when they pass Woman Hollering Creek, Cleofilas realizes that she
has the power to speak up. She does not have to suffer in silence if anyone in abusing her. She
becomes empowered by Felice and knows what it is to be feminist.
In conclusion, Cleofilas culture limits her knowledge of feminism. She is basically a mail order bride
who must obey

Short Story Of The King Cobra
It was a very bleak December and Kobe lay resting in his home around midnight. He was laying on
his bed nearly asleep;then suddenly he heard a vicious tapping at the door that alerted him. Then, he
noticed the purple curtain rustle which put a fear deep within him. A few minutes later, when Kobe
still lay resting, he once again heard the tapping on my chamber door. However, this time the noise
was louder than before, but he still believed this tapping was nothing. Kobe thought that the tapping
was from someone or something at his window.
Kobe tiptoed toward his window to see what was causing this terrible tapping noise. Then, he opened
his window and saw nothing but the deep, black darkness of the night. Next, he traveled to his
chamber door and opened it and peered outside once again yet still saw nothing but dreary darkness.
Suddenly, as, he shut the chamber door he noticed a King Cobra out of the corner of his eye. This
cobra was a very deep, black, dark color that had a long beak and an eerie tone and mood about it.
This fact left Kobe frightened at the sight of this King Cobra s features. ... Show more content on

him because he did not expect the cobra to do a thing such as this. I then asked the cobra where it had

him bewildered and wondering what this quote meant. With the fact that it was a very bleak December

Streetcar Named Desire Meaning
There is a meaning behind everything in life and in the play A Streetcar Named Desire there was a
significance to the name given to the play and a relation to Blanche s life. The Literal meaning of the
title is that there is a street car that is actually named desire that she takes to go visit the Kowalskis.
The car named desire is mentioned twice in the story, in the first scene and also later on in the play
when Blanche tells Stella that she came her in the car named desire in response to Stella asking Haven
t you ever ridden on that street car? . Metaphorically speaking the title has a lot more significance.
Blanche is at the Kowalski place because desire literally brought her there; referring to the street car.
She is also there

Hydrogen Batteries And Fuel Cells
Introduction Batteries/Fuel Cells Fuel cells operate via a chemical reaction which generates electricity.
All fuel cells contain a positive anode, a negative cathode and an electrolyte to carry the charged
particles through the cell. They also contain a catalyst which will increase the rate of the reaction
occurring. The electricity produced can then used to power various appliances. This, in turn, creates a
circuit with the current continually flowing in and out of the cell until the reaction ceases . Recently
the development metal air batteries (which can be produced from a range of metals from Aluminium
to Zinc Primary and Secondary Batteries) have become very important. They are used to power
electric vehicles and other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
O2 + 2H2O+4e →4OH Hence the following radox reaction occurs : Mg→Mg2++2e O2 + H2O+4e
→4OH 2Mg +O2+ 2H20→Mg2++4OH The voltage theoretical voltage and specific energy density of
a magnesium air fuel cell is 3.1V and 6.8kWhkg 1iii hence has the potential for creating highly
efficient fuel cells in the future. This coupled with the fact that there is no shortage of Magnesium on
the planet means that the resources, although finite, are unlikely to run out and so Magnesium is an
ideal material to use. Also the properties of the metal, such as reactivity, toxicity etc are ideal for this
applicationi. Materials Involved in the production of Magnesium Air Batteries Anode As mentioned
previously the anode is composed of Magnesium metal (atomic weight 24.312 ) and is oxidised to
produce electrons. The reason this metal is used because it is lightweight, cheap and has a high
standard potential. These fuel cells are also generally very durable and can be easily stored. Easy
storage is made possible by the fact that a protective film is naturally produced over the positive
anode. However this decreases once some of the energy has been released from the cell. Hence it is
not ideal to be used in a situation where over a long period of time there are times when the cell is not
being used. This is part of the reason why lithium batteries are

The Power Struggles in Jury of Her Peers and Mama Come Home
The issue of dominance and subordinance is addressed in the short stories A Jury of her Peers by
Susan Glaspell and Mama Come Home by James Tiptree, Jr. In the stories the subordinates are
harmed by the dominants, but the subordinates overcome the suppression to triumph in the end. The
groups with the power control the laws and the positions of the weaker group.
To begin with, A Jury of her Peers is about the way women in 1917 were treated by men. The main
women characters are Minnie Wright, Mrs. Peters, and Mrs. Hale. The women in the story are
confined to their homes; rarely getting to go to town or visit with their friends. The women did not
have many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The men also think all the housework the women do and the things they worry about are trifles. The
women receive no credit for their work. Dirty towels! Not much of a housekeeper, would you say,
ladies? (Glaspell 264) The women become depressed and lonely.
The subordinates are harmed both physically and emotionally in the story Mama Come Home. The
giant women overpower the smaller men. They beat the men and rape them. The giant women use the
men as sex slaves. They see the men as inferior and only good for sex. The men are physically harmed
because they are bruised and beaten by the Capellans. The standing one had my neck in a vise at arm s
length, and when I worked the standard finger bend she laughed like a deep bell and casually twisted
up my arm until things broke. (Tiptree 69) They are emotionally damaged because they are taken
advantage of. Anyone that is raped becomes torn up inside.
In the story Jury of her Peers, the women are thought of as inferior. The men treat the women like they
are not able to do the same things as the men. But would the women know a clue if they did come
upon it? (Glaspell 266) The women have feminine intuition. They know the pain from isolation that
Minnie was going through and know what clues to look for. Again, for one brief moment, the two
women s eyes found one another. (Glaspell 280) The men underestimate that the women can think on
this level.
The dominants in the story Mama Comes

A Website On Air Pollution
Our proposal is to create a website that encourages people to learn about how to use their car
efficiently. Our website is called Greenriding and there are some games and quizzes that teach you
about air pollution. During this game you earn points and you can trade it in for coupons and the
coupon is sent to the person by email, and comes in a printable PDF. These coupons can be traded in
for things that help air pollution (free smog checks, free tire inflation, free shuttle rides, and free tune
ups). The reason our proposal is mainly focused on learning lessons, to earn points, to get coupons, is
because actually keeping your car in good shape is a huge impact on the environment. Also getting
your car checked out, and fixed soon after your engine light goes on, can improve your mileage by
more than 30%. The second part of Greenriding is a car and shuttle system called Greenrides. You can
either rent a shuttle bus for multiple people, or you could rent an individual car for just a few people.
To become a member of the Greenrides program, you pay $25 per year. You get the individual car
rides for free, but would still pay $10 per shuttle ride. We the car manufactures are concerned that the
next generation of drivers will not be educated enough on air pollution. They should be able to learn
about air pollution for a small price. Your car is designed to run at an optimal efficiency, however
time, distance, and weather, contribute to decreasing that efficiency. Routine

Security Authentication Four processes are in the security authentication process. These steps are: 1)
Identification, 2) Authentication, 3) Authorization, and 4) Accountability.
It is vital to integrate these four steps into any network intended to be secure. Properly configured a
secured network will be able to protect itself from attacks like PW hacking, DDOS attacks, brute force
attacks, and insiders abusing their system rights (internal and external). Identification is the first of the
four steps in this process. Any user that expects to gain access to a system referred to as a supplicant,
and the tool that every user who gains entry to the network, referred to as an Identifier. The identifier
can have many different methods for identifying the supplicant. The identifier should be able to locate
the users credentials from a database of unique information that determines the supplicants identity.
The most common form of verification is done using the employees first and last name. In case there
are
Coworkers with common names, such as John Doe, employee Id s or Social Security numbers are
utilized. In most companies, they are no longer using the employee s Social Security number to
identify them in their system. They are replacing them with an employee ID. This reduces the
information that a network intruder (also known as a hacker) or another employee gaining access to

Theme Of Stigma In Tennessee Williams
Tennessee Williams (1911 1983) is one of the most highly known American dramatists of the
twentieth century. He has depicted several protagonists who are discriminated against and deals with
the issues of stigma.
What is stigma? According to Cambridge Dictionary, stigma is when people disapprove of something,
especially when this is unfair, and to treat someone or something unfairly by disapproving of them. In
the plays of Tennessee Williams the members of stigmatized groups violate the norms established by
the dominant group and, as such, are marked by the resulting social stigma. These members of
stigmatized groups may be called the marked and the ones who stigmatize, may be referred to as the
markers. Marked individuals are diminished, blemished, or imperfect in the eyes of others with far
reaching results which dehumanizes them. Stigmatized characters by Williams differ from the
privileged characters he created in terms of appearance as well as behavior. In The Glass Menagerie, A
Streetcar Named Desire Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Summer and Smoke and Suddenly Last Summer
Williams characters are discriminated against and easily identifiable as the Marked.

Aesthetics, what is beautiful or appealing, plays an important role. In general, less physically
attractive people are more likely to be stigmatized in the plays. One reliable indicator of physical
attractiveness is facial symmetry, or the degree to which the left and right sides of the face are mirror
images of each other. Williams sketches characters after characters with facial disfigurement that do
not meet this standard and are likely to be stigmatized. He portrays the American culture, in which
slimness is emphasized and overweight people become the targets of discrimination. Similarly, a
central component of the old age stereotype is a decline in physical attractiveness and mobility which
is seen in the

The And Effect Of The Earned Income Tax Credit
Introduction
This report examines the provisions, purpose, and impact of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). It
will consider both positive and negative arguments for the program, and review suggested alternatives.
Finally, it will give supporting evidence as to why the EITC is a flawed, yet overall beneficial program
for the nation s war against poverty. As one of the most heavily debated tax issues since the 90s, the
EITC is an important anti poverty program that requires attention and understanding by all American
citizens.
In order to gauge the effectiveness of the EITC, it is important to understand what the EITC is, as well
as its purpose, and then measure current performance.
Provisions
The EITC is a tax credit for low to moderate income earning individuals and families. This credit is a
refundable tax credit, meaning that citizens may have their federal taxes lowered, brought to zero, or
even earn a refund if it exceeds the amount of taxes owed. The credit amount is dependent upon a
beneficiary s earned income and number of children. Earned income includes all the taxable income
and wages a person receives from working for someone else or if they own or run a business or farm.
In order to receive the tax refund, workers must file a tax return, even if their income is less than the
filing requirement. The EITC is structured with a phase in, meaning that as a taxpayer s income
increases, the value of the credit the taxpayer earns increases until it hits the maximum

Procurement is the action where external source provides systems, goods, services, etc. for the
government itself or organizations that are depending on the government. Procurement by government
and for government is the stage where has the potential for corruption to happen. Therefore, we need
to pay attention on procurement to prevent corruption. What is most important in procurement is that
it must be announced in a public newspaper. E procurement on the other hand is the use of the internet
and information technology by the government to get goods prices in an open and fair competition for

It is necessary to name the benefits and advantages of e procurement. The main benefit is to engage
public sector into helping provide governmental requirements. E informing as well as e tendering and
e auctioning bring greater transparency will by the publishing of notices and contract electronically.
The public can check and control the procurement process through official websites (Novriyanto,
2008). As long as all the procedures are transparent enough, it makes all the parties, either the
government or the suppliers, be accountable based on activities they are doing, corruption reduction
happens as well. Since internet and communication technologies removed the geographical
restrictions, access to new suppliers are more available and thus marketplace is competitive.
Simplification of transaction processes makes ordering and approval faster One good example in this
area is Chile. In Chile, the ChileCompra e procurement system has been used to allow government
officials and citizens to compare the costs of bids to and services purchased by the government. The
prices of more than 500 outsourced services from over 6,000 providers are included in the system (??,

Kudler Fine Foods Network
After reviewing the Kudler Fine Food network, a major network overhaul will need to bring the
network up to par with the latest technology. If Kudler Fine Foods is not able to upgrade their systems
then they will fall behind the technological curve and will not be able to compete with other
companies. Kudler needs to do the upgrade not only to keep up with the advances with network
systems but needs to install the proper systems to increase profits. If Kudler does not do constant
upgrades then they will be forced to pay a larger amount for the larger upgrades in the future. It is vital
to install the proper systems that will have the longevity and the capability for future network
expansion without having to spend money on unnecessary upgrades. Currently all the sites are still
running 56K modems, this technology is outdated. This is technology is hindering the communication
speed between each site. Having a high speed connection is crucial to provide real time updates. These
updates provide the profits made each day and the inventory sold so that those items can be restocked
in real time. These modems will be used as redundant system and a new Wide Area Network (WAN)
will be created, each site will be setup with a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN). The WAN will

Essay on Pro Salary Cap
Pro Salary Cap According to Dan Oleary, Since baseball is the only major sport without a salary cap,
and with the way baseball s big spending teams throw around money, having a different winner each
year seems to defy logic (OLeary). A salary cap is issued in every professional sport s franchise,
excluding Major League Baseball. With no salary cap, one club can dominate it s competition on
money alone. The New York Yankees spend the most money on it s players each year (Goldman). It is
no coincidence that they have won the most World Series of any other club in baseball history

The Yankees have always been a powerful team regardless of the money . According to Wikipedia,
The New York Yankees signed Babe Ruth from the Boston Red Sox after the 1919 season, appeared in
their first World Series two years later in 1921, and became frequent participants thereafter (Wikipedia
World Series). Between 1947 and 1964 the New York Yankees won the world series fifteen times in
just eighteen years (Wikipedia World Series). The dynasty was in it s prime during that time. The
Yankees have won the series a total of twenty seven times, most recently just last year in 2009
(Wikipedia World Series). They have also have forty world series appearances, the closest in
comparison to baseball s favorite team is the St. Louis Cardinals with seventeen appearances. When a
team has dominated the rest by over twice the appearances in the World Series, something is wrong.
The purpose of the salary cap would not only be to stimulate competition in both the National and
American leagues, but to give the spotlight to other teams for a change. In the end, if a salary cap is
not issued, these results will continue and baseball will eventually fail. A lot of controversy regarding

Narrative Essay On Non Hodgkins Lymphoma

Professional Athletes Salaries
Sport Athletes Salaries Are professional athletes overpaid? This topic has been argued for some time
now. It is said that pro athletes are paid way too much money for playing a sport. On the other side,
there are the ones that say that the money is fairly deserved because of their hard work to get to where
they are. Should pro athletes salaries drop or stay as is? Do the top athletes deserve their pay? Athletes
deserve the money they receive because of their hard work, dedication, and commitment to their
passion. They wouldn t be where they re at just sitting on the couch all day long doing nothing. They

Furthermore, there are also bad sides to being a pro athlete, so the money is not an easy make. Having
all that money, it may be thought that a pro athlete s life is easy to live with all that money in their
pockets. They might say that money can get them out of almost any problem. Even though some
athletes get paid large amounts of money, there are a lot of down sides to being a well known and paid
pro. For one, the publicity might be overwhelming, not to mention all the criticism an athlete receives
for a poor performance. How would it feel to walk around town having cameras flashing everywhere
you go, waiting to catch you at the wrong moments for a photo just to be uploaded for the world to
see? Pros have no privacy. Having no privacy means one cannot enjoy life outside of the sport. Having
to worry about every move doesn t seem fair because they also want a life outside of their desired
profession. Before criticizing pro athletes and saying they get paid way too much, one should also
realize that their lives aren t so easy. Yes, they have money, but money doesn t make life easier for
these athletes. People should think twice before assuming that professional athletes are overpaid.
Looking further into the facts, stats, and emotions of the whole situation might give one insight before
concluding that they re overpaid athletes that just do a sport. One cannot say pro athletes are overpaid
when there are others out

Collectivization Of The Soviet Union
The date is May 8, 1945, the second world war has just come to an end and the allies had to decide the
future of Europe. To accomplish this the allies formed the Potsdam conference, which met on August
2, 1945. The events that led up to and during the time of the Eastern Bloc can teach people many
things in regard to all aspects of life.
The Soviet Union was established in 1918 under a Communist regime, which replaced the old
monarchy ruled by the Czar. However soon after 1918 a massive forced development of the Soviet
Union and all their republics began. During this period of development, the Soviet Union carried out
the policy of collectivization. Collectivization was the seizure of private land, objects and other things
for the purpose of a collective use. However farms were not the only things collectivized, many other
industries such as factories and mines became a collective as well. All of these changes almost
destroyed the Soviet Union, but in the end made it stronger than it ever had been before. The
collectivization of land and industry would help save the Soviet Union during the Nazi invasion
during world war two. Collectivization provided the Soviet Union with the strength and unity needed
to fend off a Nazi invasion.
The Eastern Bloc was created by the Soviet Union after world war two to be used as a buffer zone
between them and the west. This was needed because of how vastly different the two societies were,
with the Communist east against the Capitalist

The Banking Concept Of Education, By Richard Rodriguez
Just listen. An individual who takes the guidance of others to heart possesses a priceless quality. The
authority figures in The Banking Concept of Education, by Paulo Freire demonstrate the pivotal role
that educators hold in the educational system. The authority figures in The Achievement of Desire, by
Richard Rodriguez show the impact of educators on an individual student. Another text called Why
Chinese Mothers Are Superior, by Amy Chua illustrates the specific conditioning that authority figures
implement on to students so that they can succeed in their education. What it means to attain
educational success is to fulfill the expectations of authority figures in a student s education.

Individuals need to have the drive to succeed in education that the authorities believe is necessary for
the individuals to attain educational success. Authority figures don t want students to have poor
qualities like being lazy and self indulgent (Chua 55) that would inhibit their educational abilities.
Instead, they want their students to possess the positive qualities that they would approve of and
would advocate. Many parents believe that To get good at anything you have to work (Chua 52). Even
though the child s mentality may not be focused in this manner, it needs to become this way by the
influencing of the well intentioned parents. An ambitious quality that parent figures want is for their
children to practice, practice, practice (Chua 52) no matter how they feel or want to give up. The
parents mold virtuous qualities like the willingness to do things over and over (Chua 55) into their
child so that he or she can become good at school. This ambition is expected to be demonstrated
within the classroom as well. Authorities like teachers want their students to have the ambition to
complete all of the actions that they desire. A teacher wants a student to have ambition where Any

Election Process In The United States
The election process in the United States is very complex and has many different influences that affect
this process tremendously. The United States greatly depends on political parties, interest groups, and

The role of the political parties is very important in elections. Political parties are groups of
individuals who have similar interests and nominate candidates in order to win elections. Political
parties also focus on controlling elections. There are three parts of a political party and each
component is vital to their goal of controlling elections. First, there is the party organization. These are

Electronics, the headphones giant, for $3.2 billion. Apple has enough money to buy or build any
company they want to from ground up. So, why did Apple acquire Beats Electronics and Beats Music?
According to NBC News, Apple CEO Tim Cook told Re/Code that the company could build about
anything that you could dream of, adding that acquiring Beats would give them a head start and add
kindred spirits to company (Wagstaff, 2014). Given the years of musical experience that both Dr. Dre,
a well known legendary artist and music producer and Jimmy Iovine, the Chairman of Interscope
Geffen A M Records have and the energy they have brought to the hip hop and pop cultures, it is no
wonder that Apple would have made the decision to acquire Beats Electronics and Beats Music. In just
six years, Dr. Dre and Iovine has sealed the whole consumer market for high end headphones. Beats
also unleashed Beats Music, a streaming music service.
The negotiations take place at a critical time: the music market has seen a massive shift towards
streaming and away from downloads. U.S. revenue from downloads which iTunes dominates dropped
1 percent to $2.8 billion in 2013, while streaming music revenue from the likes of Pandora and Spotify
soared 39 percent to $1.4 billion, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (CBS

The Most Common Problems in Project Management as...
Chapter 1
Introduction
Project Management is not something new in today s world as it has been practiced since the early
civilization by early architects and engineers such as Vitruvius, a Roman writer, architect and
engineer, Christopher Wren, Thomas Telford and Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Though it has been used
before, organizations started to apply systematically the project management tools and techniques to
complex project in the 1950s.
No matter what the size of the organization is, there is always a need to have project management that
is involved in new endeavors such as the development of a new product or service; establishment of a

In the book of Lawson (2009) he gave a detailed information about the steps to take for a successful
project management. He has four major steps in his book such as: 1. Evaluation of options for change
2. Putting together an effective project team 3. Planning a logical course of work 4. Keeping projects

According to Clear (2011) in his article entitled 7 Common Project Management Problems (and How

client requirements. The client s requirement can be a big problem and therefore, it is very important
to provide a clear path laid out from start to finish so client can have specificity in his/her
requirements and keeping the project on track as well. 2. Slow client s communication. Slow
communication has been another big reason why projects are being delayed. With this situation,
project managers should have the initiative to do a little bit of work ahead of time. Instead of waiting
for the response of the client, start doing the work which is according to the direction that you think is

Congenital Heart Diseases ( Chd )
Introduction
Congenital heart diseases (CHD) are defects in the heart that are present from birth and affect 8 in
every 1,000 newborns each year (National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, 2011). Hypertrophic
cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common congenital disease of the heart (O Hanlon and Pennell,
2009) and the most common cause of sudden cardiac death (SCD) among apparently healthy athletes
and younger generations (Maron, 1995; Maron and Maron, 2013). HCM is a condition in which there
is abnormal thickening of the myocardium in the left ventricle (LV), also know as left ventricular
hypertrophy (LVH), where the heart is not dilated and there is no other systemic or cardiac cause
(Maron et al 2003; Maron et al 2006). Although many patients are asymptomatic to HCM, some
patient s will present with, or develop progressive exercise intolerance, heart failure symptoms and
SCD (Keren et al 2008).
The prevalence of HCM worldwide is 1:500 making it the most common heritable congenital heart
disorder (O Hanlon, 2010). Annual mortality rates for presenting patient s range from 1% within the
general community, to 3 6% from tertiary referral centres (Noureldin et al, 2012). This range is most
likely due to the fact that tertiary centres are specialist centres, and patients suspected to have HCM
would be referred straight to a tertiary centre. There is currently no evidence to suggest that incidence
or mortality is affected by gender (Maron et al, 2002).

in these two films, Lara Croft: The Tomb Raider and The piano . I am to discuss the attitudes towards
the gender roles that are in both time lines of these films and the way in which these notions of gender
are made and shaped by the historic and economic events. Both roles in the films are seen as

The Common Core State Standards Essay
In 2009 the Common Core State Standards, or CCSS, was initiated, and since then has become a large
part of education today. News shows in multiple states have shown students protesting these new
standards by skipping classes and school all together. These actions obviously show their refusal to
work with the new standards. While there are many teachers who are happy with these standards,
students still need to be convinced, and teachers can help this by supporting Common Core State
Standards. This in turn may help students understand their subjects better, and give teachers a more
attentive and active class. With CCSS being present in 2016 in most states it is of relevance to take it
in to consideration that it will be around for a while. In years to come, CCSS may become the
standards in all states. In order to ensure that there are no refusals to work with these standards,
administration and faculty in high schools across the United States should find a way to accommodate
these new common core state standards. This can be done through reassuring individual teachers that
they are able to teach the new standards in ways that are easy for them, showing different ways to help
students achieve a higher order of thinking, and offer a better way to connect students previous
knowledge to knowledge they are currently receiving.
Each of the news ways stated in the previous paragraph can help to alleviate any concerns parents and
teachers may have about how students and education

Judith Jarvison Thomson On Abortion
In this paper I will discus and examine Judith Jarvis Thomson s view upon abortion as stated in her
argument A Defense of Abortion . I will explain her view on the issue and look deeper into her
supporting arguments she included in her essay. I will also explain whether I agree with her
statements. I would also discuss whether the person can agree with my statements and reason why
having an abortion make you in moral.
In her opening statement she first starts of stating a fetus is consider to be a human being or a person
from the moment of conception. They have the right to life just like any other person does. In lines 1
10 Most opposition to abortion relies on the premise that the fetus is a human being, a person, from
the moment of conception. ( Thomson, Judith Jarvis. A Defense of Abortion. Judith Jarvis Thomson: A
Defense of Abortion, Oct. 1991,spot.colorado.edu/~heathwoo/Phil160,Fall02/thomson.htm. )
Thomson is drawing a line between what we consider to be a person meaning a human being or an
adult, to what makes us a human being or an adult. In her first example she talks about an acorn
falling from an oak tree automatically being consider to be an oak tree or to be still labeled as an
acorn. In lines 10 14 Similar things might be said about the development of an acorn into an oak trees,
and it does not follow that acorns are oak trees, or that we had better say they are. ( Thomson, Judith

The Pike River Coal Mine
INTRODUCTION
The definition of a project is a complex one time effort which is limited by time, budget and resources
in order to complete certain objectives. If these characteristics are not met it results in project
management failure. An example of this is the Pike River Coal Mine tragedy which occurred on
November 19th 2010 which is located on the West Coast of New Zealand, where a series of methane
explosions happened resulting in the loss of 29 men s lives and 2 survivors walking away from the
explosions. This report will look into the project management failures which occurred at the Pike
River Coal Mine such as not completing objectives by certain deadlines which then would lead to
going over the financial budget and how the overall management of the project could have been
improved to decrease these failures. Also throughout the Pike River Coal mine project it highlighted
serval issues which may occur when dealing with the management of the people whether it being
individuals or team. This report will look at the theories of motivation and communication and see
how these theories helped contribute to the Pike River tragedy.

Communication Competence In A Group
Communication competence is the first thing every new group member should understand before
beginning a group project. Communication competence is considered very broadly as an impression
that behavior is appropriate and effective in a given context (Spitzberg, 2000). This includes being
effective by having a wide range of behaviors and being in the we , not me mentality, being
appropriate by complying with the group rules, have the knowledge to learn the rules and know how
to be a proper asset in your group, having empathy or being sensitive towards your group members,
staying committed to your group, and lastly being ethical. Our groups communication was very
competent. When it came to group decision making, there was no hint of individuality, none of the
members had a me mentality, but instead we all as a group put what we wanted aside to agree on a
board game that would be the most appropriate for the assignment. For example, I wanted to play
poker instead of monopoly but due to the fact that I was the only one in our group that knew how to
play poker I quickly agreed with monopoly. Furthermore, all the group members showed commitment,
and ethics. Many of us had a busy week schedule to include work and other classes so when we were
able to settle on a time and date for a meeting everyone stayed committed to the schedule and arrived
on time. While we had these group meetings and game nights everyone in the group was respectful
towards each other by not making any rude remarks or aggressiveness when there was disagreement
and being responsible by not attempting to cheat to win
Group Climate is defined by Rothwell as the emotional atmosphere, the enveloping tone that is
created by the way we communicate in groups (105). Group s can have either positive or negative
climates. Our group displayed a positive climate. We treated each other well and fairly, we were all
flexible with our busy schedules in order to have group meetings and whenever someone had a last
minute work shift change interfering with out meeting we quickly reorganized without any harsh
feelings. Furthermore, our group showed a lot of supportive communication and almost no defensive
communication. We did not need to make any positive or

Violence In Media And Media Violence
With technology becoming more advanced every year the public is becoming increasingly concerned
with the link between the violence in media and actual violence between humans. However, this topic
has not only gained interest by the public but researchers are intrigued by the connection as well. One
of the subdivisions associated with media is, gaming culture. Yet, its association with developing
violence among the youth and young adults has not been touched upon by many researchers.
Although, the few who have looked into the violence within the realm of gaming have found many
connections involving variables such as age, race, ethnicity, gender, personality, and acts of violence.
In the study, Exposure to Media Violence and Other Correlates of Aggressive Behavior in Preschool
Children; researchers, Perez and Daly, looked into whether violence in media such as television and
video games affected how children behaved or how they got along with others during play time. In
order to conduct this research they selected seven preschools. After the parents who wished to have
their child participate gave consent there was officially a sample size of 70 children (32 female, 38
male). Then to create a control the researchers survey and rated the classroom environment, the

children who were highly self regulatory were more physically violent and those who had low self

An Analysis of Wilbur s Mayflies
Richard Wilbur s recent poem Mayflies reminds us that the American Romantic tradition that Robert
Frost most famously brought into the 20th century has made it safely into the 21st. Like many of Frost
s short lyric poems, Mayflies describes one person s encounter with an ordinary but easily overlooked
piece of nature in this case, a cloud of mayflies spotted in a sombre forest (l.1) rising over unseen
pools (l.2), made surprisingly attractive and meaningful by the speaker s special scrutiny of it. The
ultimate attraction of Wilbur s mayflies would appear to be the meaning he finds in them. This seems

the speaker?s separation, as ?witness?(l. 9), from this ?manifold/ And figured scene?(ll. 13 14). To see
the dance so well, he has had to be stationed outside it. This exclusion, it would seem, is the poet?s
classic occupational hazard.
Yet this darker revelation is quickly eclipsed by one last happy irony, a revelation of sorts: the poem so
artfully represents it subject, its conspicuous ingenuities of form so undulate and glitter like the mist of
mayflies, that the poem itself becomes the mayflies?or means to come as close as language can take it.
As a special way of seeing, the poem means to breech the gulf between seer and thing seen and thus
forge a connection to the object world, the speaker?s own absence from which he ostensibly laments.
That this attempt is successful seems implicit in the last lines of the poem. There, it occurs to the
speaker that his sense of separateness and mortality can be allayed by the idea that he has been ?
called? to be a poetic seer, ?one whose task is joyfully to see/ How fair

Moral, Social, And Ethical Implications Of Cloning
Moral, Social, and Ethical Implications of Cloning
Clones are organisms that are exact genetic copies. Every single bit of their DNA is identical. Clones
can happen naturally identical twins are just one of many examples. Or they can be made in the lab.
Natural identical twins are similar to and different from clones made through modern cloning
technologies. (Genetic Science Learning Center) Cloning has many different aspects; there is the
moral, social and ethical aspects of cloning. Along with this you have to consider who is being cloned.
There is cloning for a human being, animal, or even food. Depending on what is being cloned is what
determines if it is allowed or not. Throughout this paper I will discuss many of the aspects of cloning.
Many people first heard of cloning when Dolly the Sheep showed up on the scene in 1997. Artificial
cloning technologies have been around for much longer than Dolly, though. There are two ways to
make an exact genetic copy of an organism in a lab: artificial embryo twinning and somatic cell
nuclear transfer. (Genetic Science Learning Center) This type of cloning has to do with organisms; so
either human or animal. These techniques are done to produce twins. Though the techniques vary, they
both are done to receive the same result. The type of cloning used to create Dolly the Sheep is Somatic
Cell Nuclear Transfer, also known as nuclear transfer or therapeutic cloning. What makes dolly so
special is that she was an exact genetic

Friendship In John Knowles s A Separate Peace
In life, a person is never able to stay in contact with every person they have met. An acquaintance is
no exception to this idea; friends will come and go, and this is inevitable. Sometimes a companion will
move away, never to be seen again, cut themselves off, never to be heard from again, or pass away,
never to do anything again. One bad occurrence can make or break a relationship. It all depends on
whether the resolution of it will cement a life long friendship or a lifelong schism. Any relationship
can be complicated, to the point of making no sense at all. This is similar to what John Knowles writes
about on his novel, A Separate Peace. Knowles writes of one of his main characters, Gene Forrester,
experiencing some of the themes above. Gene causes his friend Finny s leg to be broken, and Knowles
uses the resulting events to convey the idea that a friendship does not always have to make sense for it
to exist. In nearly every major interaction involving Gene, he consistently exhibits behavior which
would certainly sabotage his relationship with Finny and other peers. He harbors harsh and strong
emotions, which eventually do make themselves clear to the person they belong to. For example, Gene
begins a conspiracy against Finny, thinking, Finny had deliberately set out to wreck my studies (53).
Even after Finny eventually resolves the complications between himself and Gene, he still falls victim
to Gene s latent emotions a short moment after the reconciliation. In a

  • 2. Cleofilas Is A Feminist Analysis In Mexican culture, women are expected to marry a man then stay at home to care for the kids while the husband is at work. Women are taught to be dependent on a man in their lives, thus they never really learn what it is to be feminist. This is very similar to what Cleofilas believes, which she learned from her family and telenovelas. Therefore, Cleofilas does not understand feminist ideologies and wants to marry a man to care for her. Although from her background, Cleofilas is clearly not a feminist as she endeavors to make a home, she is able to observe or visit the feminine perspective through her struggles. As she grew up watching telenovelas, Cleofilas witnessed many scenes involving domestic abuse. She watched on television as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She is willing to stand up to her spouse in order to make sure there are no complications during the birth of her second child. She is slowly realizing what it is to be feminist due to the fact that she is willing to try anything to convince Juan Pedro. Although she agrees to lie about her bruises saying she fell down the front steps (Cisneros, 226), it is a step in the right direction to feminism. Ultimately, the visit to the doctor allows her to receive help. She is given a chance to escape. She accepts the opportunity as she begins to find out that she no longer has to take the abuse from Juan Pedro. By the end of the story, Cleofilas is able to witness feminism in the form of another woman, Felice. Upon leaving Juan Pedro to return to her family, she meets Felice. Felice gives Cleofilas the ride to the bus station to escape from Juan Pedro. Cleofilas was shocked by the idea of Felice, a woman who drove a pickup... and didn t have a husband (Cisneros, 228). Cleofilas has an epiphany and realizes that she could be independent. She would no longer have to rely on a man to support her and her children. Also, as Felice screams when they pass Woman Hollering Creek, Cleofilas realizes that she has the power to speak up. She does not have to suffer in silence if anyone in abusing her. She becomes empowered by Felice and knows what it is to be feminist. In conclusion, Cleofilas culture limits her knowledge of feminism. She is basically a mail order bride who must obey ... He was laying on his bed nearly asleep;then suddenly he heard a vicious tapping at the door that alerted him. Then, he noticed the purple curtain rustle which put a fear deep within him. A few minutes later, when Kobe still lay resting, he once again heard the tapping on my chamber door. However, this time the noise was louder than before, but he still believed this tapping was nothing. Kobe thought that the tapping was from someone or something at his window. Kobe tiptoed toward his window to see what was causing this terrible tapping noise. Then, he opened his window and saw nothing but the deep, black darkness of the night. Next, he traveled to his chamber door and opened it and peered outside once again yet still saw nothing but dreary darkness. Suddenly, as, he shut the chamber door he noticed a King Cobra out of the corner of his eye. This cobra was a very deep, black, dark color that had a long beak and an eerie tone and mood about it. • 6. Hydrogen Batteries And Fuel Cells Introduction Batteries/Fuel Cells Fuel cells operate via a chemical reaction which generates electricity. All fuel cells contain a positive anode, a negative cathode and an electrolyte to carry the charged particles through the cell. They also contain a catalyst which will increase the rate of the reaction occurring. The electricity produced can then used to power various appliances. This, in turn, creates a circuit with the current continually flowing in and out of the cell until the reaction ceases . Recently the development metal air batteries (which can be produced from a range of metals from Aluminium to Zinc Primary and Secondary Batteries) have become very important. This coupled with the fact that there is no shortage of Magnesium on the planet means that the resources, although finite, are unlikely to run out and so Magnesium is an ideal material to use. Also the properties of the metal, such as reactivity, toxicity etc are ideal for this applicationi. Materials Involved in the production of Magnesium Air Batteries Anode As mentioned previously the anode is composed of Magnesium metal (atomic weight 24.312 ) and is oxidised to produce electrons. The reason this metal is used because it is lightweight, cheap and has a high standard potential. These fuel cells are also generally very durable and can be easily stored. Easy storage is made possible by the fact that a protective film is naturally produced over the positive anode. However this decreases once some of the energy has been released from the cell. Hence it is not ideal to be used in a situation where over a long period of time there are times when the cell is not being used. This is part of the reason why lithium batteries are ... Our website is called Greenriding and there are some games and quizzes that teach you about air pollution. During this game you earn points and you can trade it in for coupons and the coupon is sent to the person by email, and comes in a printable PDF. These coupons can be traded in for things that help air pollution (free smog checks, free tire inflation, free shuttle rides, and free tune ups). The reason our proposal is mainly focused on learning lessons, to earn points, to get coupons, is because actually keeping your car in good shape is a huge impact on the environment. Also getting your car checked out, and fixed soon after your engine light goes on, can improve your mileage by more than 30%. • 10. Theme Of Stigma In Tennessee Williams Tennessee Williams (1911 1983) is one of the most highly known American dramatists of the twentieth century. He has depicted several protagonists who are discriminated against and deals with the issues of stigma. What is stigma? According to Cambridge Dictionary, stigma is when people disapprove of something, especially when this is unfair, and to treat someone or something unfairly by disapproving of them. In the plays of Tennessee Williams the members of stigmatized groups violate the norms established by the dominant group and, as such, are marked by the resulting social stigma. These members of stigmatized groups may be called the marked and the ones who stigmatize, may be referred to as the markers. Marked individuals are diminished, blemished, or imperfect in the eyes of others with far reaching results which dehumanizes them. Stigmatized characters by Williams differ from the privileged characters he created in terms of appearance as well as behavior. It will consider both positive and negative arguments for the program, and review suggested alternatives. Finally, it will give supporting evidence as to why the EITC is a flawed, yet overall beneficial program for the nation s war against poverty. As one of the most heavily debated tax issues since the 90s, the EITC is an important anti poverty program that requires attention and understanding by all American citizens. In order to gauge the effectiveness of the EITC, it is important to understand what the EITC is, as well as its purpose, and then measure current performance. Provisions The EITC is a tax credit for low to moderate income earning individuals and families. This credit is a refundable tax credit, meaning that citizens may have their federal taxes lowered, brought to zero, or even earn a refund if it exceeds the amount of taxes owed. The credit amount is dependent upon a beneficiary s earned income and number of children. Earned income includes all the taxable income and wages a person receives from working for someone else or if they own or run a business or farm. In order to receive the tax refund, workers must file a tax return, even if their income is less than the filing requirement. To accomplish this the allies formed the Potsdam conference, which met on August 2, 1945. The events that led up to and during the time of the Eastern Bloc can teach people many things in regard to all aspects of life. The Soviet Union was established in 1918 under a Communist regime, which replaced the old monarchy ruled by the Czar. However soon after 1918 a massive forced development of the Soviet Union and all their republics began. During this period of development, the Soviet Union carried out the policy of collectivization. Collectivization was the seizure of private land, objects and other things for the purpose of a collective use. The parents mold virtuous qualities like the willingness to do things over and over (Chua 55) into their child so that he or she can become good at school. This ambition is expected to be demonstrated within the classroom as well. Authorities like teachers want their students to have the ambition to complete all of the actions that they desire. Apple has enough money to buy or build any company they want to from ground up. So, why did Apple acquire Beats Electronics and Beats Music? According to NBC News, Apple CEO Tim Cook told Re/Code that the company could build about anything that you could dream of, adding that acquiring Beats would give them a head start and add kindred spirits to company (Wagstaff, 2014). Given the years of musical experience that both Dr. Dre, a well known legendary artist and music producer and Jimmy Iovine, the Chairman of Interscope Geffen A M Records have and the energy they have brought to the hip hop and pop cultures, it is no wonder that Apple would have made the decision to acquire Beats Electronics and Beats Music. In just six years, Dr. Dre and Iovine has sealed the whole consumer market for high end headphones. Beats also unleashed Beats Music, a streaming music service. The negotiations take place at a critical time: the music market has seen a massive shift towards streaming and away from downloads. • 28. Congenital Heart Diseases ( Chd ) Introduction Congenital heart diseases (CHD) are defects in the heart that are present from birth and affect 8 in every 1,000 newborns each year (National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, 2011). Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common congenital disease of the heart (O Hanlon and Pennell, 2009) and the most common cause of sudden cardiac death (SCD) among apparently healthy athletes and younger generations (Maron, 1995; Maron and Maron, 2013). HCM is a condition in which there is abnormal thickening of the myocardium in the left ventricle (LV), also know as left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), where the heart is not dilated and there is no other systemic or cardiac cause (Maron et al 2003; Maron et al 2006). Although many patients are asymptomatic to HCM, some patient s will present with, or develop progressive exercise intolerance, heart failure symptoms and SCD (Keren et al 2008). The prevalence of HCM worldwide is 1:500 making it the most common heritable congenital heart disorder (O Hanlon, 2010). Annual mortality rates for presenting patient s range from 1% within the general community, to 3 6% from tertiary referral centres (Noureldin et al, 2012). This range is most likely due to the fact that tertiary centres are specialist centres, and patients suspected to have HCM would be referred straight to a tertiary centre. There is currently no evidence to suggest that incidence or mortality is affected by gender (Maron et al, 2002). Obstructive and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. The Common Core State Standards Essay In 2009 the Common Core State Standards, or CCSS, was initiated, and since then has become a large part of education today. News shows in multiple states have shown students protesting these new standards by skipping classes and school all together. These actions obviously show their refusal to work with the new standards. While there are many teachers who are happy with these standards, students still need to be convinced, and teachers can help this by supporting Common Core State Standards. This in turn may help students understand their subjects better, and give teachers a more attentive and active class. With CCSS being present in 2016 in most states it is of relevance to take it in to consideration that it will be around for a while. In years to come, CCSS may become the standards in all states. In order to ensure that there are no refusals to work with these standards, administration and faculty in high schools across the United States should find a way to accommodate these new common core state standards. This can be done through reassuring individual teachers that they are able to teach the new standards in ways that are easy for them, showing different ways to help students achieve a higher order of thinking, and offer a better way to connect students previous knowledge to knowledge they are currently receiving. • 35. Communication Competence In A Group Communication competence is the first thing every new group member should understand before beginning a group project. Communication competence is considered very broadly as an impression that behavior is appropriate and effective in a given context (Spitzberg, 2000). This includes being effective by having a wide range of behaviors and being in the we , not me mentality, being appropriate by complying with the group rules, have the knowledge to learn the rules and know how to be a proper asset in your group, having empathy or being sensitive towards your group members, staying committed to your group, and lastly being ethical. Our groups communication was very competent. When it came to group decision making, there was no hint of individuality, none of the members had a me mentality, but instead we all as a group put what we wanted aside to agree on a board game that would be the most appropriate for the assignment. For example, I wanted to play poker instead of monopoly but due to the fact that I was the only one in our group that knew how to play poker I quickly agreed with monopoly. Furthermore, all the group members showed commitment, and ethics. Many of us had a busy week schedule to include work and other classes so when we were able to settle on a time and date for a meeting everyone stayed committed to the schedule and arrived on time. While we had these group meetings and game nights everyone in the group was respectful towards each other by not making any rude remarks or aggressiveness when there was disagreement and being responsible by not attempting to cheat to win Group Climate is defined by Rothwell as the emotional atmosphere, the enveloping tone that is created by the way we communicate in groups (105). Group s can have either positive or negative climates. Our group displayed a positive climate. We treated each other well and fairly, we were all flexible with our busy schedules in order to have group meetings and whenever someone had a last minute work shift change interfering with out meeting we quickly reorganized without any harsh feelings. In order to conduct this research they selected seven preschools. After the parents who wished to have their child participate gave consent there was officially a sample size of 70 children (32 female, 38 male). An Analysis of Wilbur s Mayflies Essay An Analysis of Wilbur s Mayflies Richard Wilbur s recent poem Mayflies reminds us that the American Romantic tradition that Robert Frost most famously brought into the 20th century has made it safely into the 21st. Like many of Frost s short lyric poems, Mayflies describes one person s encounter with an ordinary but easily overlooked piece of nature in this case, a cloud of mayflies spotted in a sombre forest (l.1) rising over unseen pools (l.2), made surprisingly attractive and meaningful by the speaker s special scrutiny of it. The ultimate attraction of Wilbur s mayflies would appear to be the meaning he finds in them. This seems to be an unremittingly positive poem, even as it glimpses the dark subjects of human ... More surprising yet, though surely emblems of the ephemeral (of the order ephemeroptera), they suggest by their choreographed life an interconnectivity in nature that transcends an individual?s mortality. Indeed, in the third and final stanza they become a foil for the speaker?s own sense of ? separateness? and mortality ?as night close[s] in?(l.18). At a literal level the poem all along insists on the speaker?s separation, as ?witness?(l. 9), from this ?manifold/ And figured scene?(ll. 13 14). To see the dance so well, he has had to be stationed outside it. This exclusion, it would seem, is the poet?s classic occupational hazard. Yet this darker revelation is quickly eclipsed by one last happy irony, a revelation of sorts: the poem so artfully represents it subject, its conspicuous ingenuities of form so undulate and glitter like the mist of mayflies, that the poem itself becomes the mayflies?or means to come as close as language can take it. As a special way of seeing, the poem means to breech the gulf between seer and thing seen and thus forge a connection to the object world, the speaker?s own absence from which he ostensibly laments. That this attempt is successful seems implicit in the last lines of the poem. There, it occurs to the speaker that his sense of separateness and mortality can be allayed by the idea that he has been ? called? to be a poetic seer, ?one whose task is joyfully to see/ How fair ... Every single bit of their DNA is identical. Clones can happen naturally identical twins are just one of many examples. Or they can be made in the lab. Natural identical twins are similar to and different from clones made through modern cloning technologies. (Genetic Science Learning Center) Cloning has many different aspects; there is the moral, social and ethical aspects of cloning. Along with this you have to consider who is being cloned. There is cloning for a human being, animal, or even food. Depending on what is being cloned is what determines if it is allowed or not. Throughout this paper I will discuss many of the aspects of cloning. Many people first heard of cloning when Dolly the Sheep showed up on the scene in 1997. Artificial cloning technologies have been around for much longer than Dolly, though. There are two ways to make an exact genetic copy of an organism in a lab: artificial embryo twinning and somatic cell nuclear transfer. (Genetic Science Learning Center) This type of cloning has to do with organisms; so either human or animal. These techniques are done to produce twins. Though the techniques vary, they both are done to receive the same result. The type of cloning used to create Dolly the Sheep is Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer, also known as nuclear transfer or therapeutic cloning. • 41. Friendship In John Knowles s A Separate Peace In life, a person is never able to stay in contact with every person they have met. An acquaintance is no exception to this idea; friends will come and go, and this is inevitable. Sometimes a companion will move away, never to be seen again, cut themselves off, never to be heard from again, or pass away, never to do anything again. One bad occurrence can make or break a relationship. It all depends on whether the resolution of it will cement a life long friendship or a lifelong schism. Any relationship can be complicated, to the point of making no sense at all. This is similar to what John Knowles writes about on his novel, A Separate Peace. Knowles writes of one of his main characters, Gene Forrester, experiencing some of the themes above. Gene causes his friend Finny s leg to be broken, and Knowles uses the resulting events to convey the idea that a friendship does not always have to make sense for it to exist. In nearly every major interaction involving Gene, he consistently exhibits behavior which would certainly sabotage his relationship with Finny and other peers. He harbors harsh and strong emotions, which eventually do make themselves clear to the person they belong to. For example, Gene begins a conspiracy against Finny, thinking, Finny had deliberately set out to wreck my studies (53). Even after Finny eventually resolves the complications between himself and Gene, he still falls victim to Gene s latent emotions a short moment after the reconciliation. In a ...
