The Beanstalk
Introduction (first slide) For this media assignment I selected to analyze Jack and The Beanstalk and
the lens I will be using will be the feminist lens. Summary of text (second slide) Just to briefly recap,
Jack and The Beanstalk narrates the story about Jack, a young poor boy living with his widowed
mother and their cow who is their only source of income. He is to sell the futile cow who s stopped
giving milk and find a job to support his mother and himself. Instead, he trades his cow for some
magic bean when offered the opportunity. Overnight, the beans grow into a beanstalk with a magical
land at the peak. Jack discovers it s home to a man eating ogre and his wife, the ogresse. Deceptively,
Jack steals the ogre s golden coins, magical hen and singing harp. After facing a confrontation with the
ogre and winning he becomes rich, marries a princess and lives happily ever after. ... Show more

Contextual evidence/Analysis The widow is objectified as this being with a lack of emotional stability
whereas her son is portrayed as cool, calm and collected. The ogresse, on the other hand, is Jack s
nurturer and the ogre s housewife. In addition, the women are illustrated as oppressed, secondary,
unimportant characters in contrast to the masculine power that is being represented through the
depiction of the men in the story at the same time upholding the stereotype that mentally, emotionally
and physically men will always be stronger than women which is how the ogre and Jack see their
mother and wife: inadequate. Picture #1 The first picture illustrates the idea wife in her natural role
and environment: repressing her needs and wants and taking care of everyone else but herself Picture

The Challenges Of Smallholder Dairy Farming Systems
Climate change and variability (CCV) is one of the greatest challenges to Smallholder Dairy Farming
Systems (SDFS) yet demand for Animal Source Foods (ASF) is projected to rise (FAO, 2011) due to
population growth, urban migration coupled with increased spending in developing countries as a
result of improved incomes (Giovannucci et al., 2012). In Kenya SDFS form one of the most
important key livelihood strategies of rural communities with dominance over the national milk sector
accounting for 80% of total milk produced and a corresponding agricultural Gross Domestic Product
(GDP) of 30% (FAO, 2011a). Other factors that negatively impact SDFS include: poor agronomic
practices; reduced fodder and crop residue yields (; land fragmentation; ... Show more content on

taurus dominated systems (Knox et al., 2012; FAO, 2011a; FAO, 2014; Kabirizi et al., 2014; Niang et
al., 2014; Thornton and Herrero, 2014). Reduced LGP is likely to trigger shifts from SDFS (mixed
crop and livestock production) to more dominant livestock based production systems with a high
probability of offsetting the food balance due to increased frequency of failure of traditionally grown
crops (Anyamba et al., 2014; Niang et al., 2014). These scenarios lead to dynamic complexities and
dynamic farming systems where SDFS test and adopt both indigenous methods based on perceptions
of CCV and modern technologies that work best for increased productivity (Mertz et al., 2009; Below
et al, 2014). According to Giovannucci et al. (2012) rural urban migration in Sub Saharan Africa
(SSA) is associated with CCV (FAO, 2015) and directly impacts labour availability resulting to
women and the elderly taking on additional and non traditional gendered roles that include offering
social protection (WHO, 2011) thus increasing exposure to climate related risks that further affect
productivity (Beddington et al., 2012a; Giovannucci et al., 2012; FAO, 2015). Production is further
compounded by limited access and control over factors of production (land, credit, assets, knowledge,
technology and efficient extension services) (Giovannucci et al., 2012; Antwi Agyei et al., 2013) that
aid in adaptation strategies by women who own and manage most SDFS (FAO, 2015). Yet

The Underlying Courage in “A Wrinkle in Time”
The Underlying Courage in A Wrinkle in Time Typically in novels there are many supporting themes
to create the storyline in the novel; in A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L Engle a major theme in the
novel is courage. It shows in almost every chapter, through Margaret (Meg) Murry and Charles
Wallace Murry. The quest the kids go through in the novel corresponds to Joseph Campbell s Hero s
journey also the type of courage found within the Christian framework. Courage is having the strength
to resist and endure fear, danger, and difficulty; it is the main thing that can keep the children together
on the journey. In the very beginning, of the novel, Meg is the first to display courage. She does so by

The Decision Of Our Final Residential Location Choice Model
Before the decision of our final residential location choice model, we tested how preferences of
residential location are different among age and income groups. Stratifying the sample of households
by age and income is helpful to identify some of the heterogeneity in housing preferences among
different market segments as well as investigate whether differences of location preferences exist
between different groups. All the household location choice models performed reasonably well as
shown in table 1, 2, and 3. The empirical results show that different age groups have different
residential location preferences. As shown in Table 1, the access to employment is statistically
significant and positive in Groups 1 and 3 but insignificant in Group 2. This result implies that job
opportunity is an important factor in the household residential location choice decision, especially for
the young and old household groups. On the other hand, households in Group 2 do not tend to prefer
the location where job opportunity is relatively good, although it is not statistically significant. Rather,
land price is positive and significant in Group 2, which means they are likely to choose the location
where land price is high. This may be because most households in Group 2 consider their children s
education in their residential location decision. In specific, good education environment including
public and private schools is a very important factor in Korea. However, we do not include the

Crime And Crime
Possible explanations
To find a correlation between immigration and crime we must look at cultural differences. Thorsten
Sellin, a sociologist from the University of Pennsylvania, argues that conflicting conduct norms
between the old and new societies is the principal cause of crime among youth. Sellin points to
immigrant s values in that they often deviate from receiving societies (Sellin, 1938). To summarize, in
the absence of clear cut rules, individuals are likely to deviate from norms that are not self evident.
Sellin s argument points to an increase in crime and delinquency because migrant populations are
unable or unsuccessful to cultural adaption to the hosting society. Edwin Sutherland, a criminologist in
Pennsylvania, also points to acculturation as a connection to crime regarding immigrants (Sutherland,
1978). Sutherland argues that the blame should not be on immigrant s cultural origins but instead the
acculturation into American Society, which would naturally affect the second generation immigrants.
Sutherlands view has led some to believe that second generation immigrants may be more crime
prone. Sutherland states that ..this acculturation perspective addresses the problem of cultural
assimilation and its effect on delinquency and risky behavior (Sutherland, 1978). Sutherland brings up
a valid point in that the reason we statistically see later generations of immigrants committing crime is
that they are naturalizing to American society. However, even

The Use of Imagery in The Princess Bride by William Goldman
In The Princess Bride by William Goldman there is a love so strong not even death can take it away.
When you think of a princess you may picture a girl with a lavish dress on and a crown full of jewels
on top of her head, but not in William Goldman s The Princess Bride. The readers encounter just a
regular girl from a family that was never royalty, and who is always thinking of her one true love who
was once thought dead.
The use of Imagery is seen in William Goldman s The Princess Bride when the author tells about
when he did not like to read, The Zoo of Death, and The Cliffs of Insanity.
When readers read a story written by an author they will usually think that the author likes to read
books and is what led the author to writing a book. William Goldman said, As a child, I had no Interest
in reading (Goldman 3), this can lead readers to imagining the author as a young child rather than an
adult not wanting to read a book. When Readers imagine the author as a young child the image
imagined can give a better sense of how the author felt as a young child. The imagination of a child
giving the reader a picture to think about is less complex than that of a adult giving a reader a picture
to think about.
The Zoo is ever child s dream of seeing strange animals that they have never seen before, but this zoo
is like no other. It was kept with things he could hunt, and it really wasn t like any animal sanctuary
(Goldman 60). The zoo of Death as the zoo is called is full of

Historiography of the Reconstruction Era
Riham Elshazli Professor Clement Price Civil War and the Reconstruction 12/11/12 Historiography of
the Reconstruction Era At a time when America was trying to piece itself back together, the
Reconstruction Era is one of the most important chapters in history. It is also, however, one of the
most debated. After the Civil War, the South was devastated and thousands of freed slaves needed to
be integrated into society. When Andrew Johnson took office, he was moderate in his views as to what
should happen to restore order to the United States. However, some Republicans had other plans in
mind. They wanted to impose harsher terms and used Congress to do so, justly giving them the name
Radical Republicans. Opinions about this time period have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Dunning s work popularized derogatory terms such as carpetbagger and scalawag. Soon, his academic
view of Reconstruction became the widespread view held by everyone around the country as movies
such as Birth of a Nation and Gone with the Wind became popular. These movies portrayed
Reconstruction as an era of tragic exploitation of the South by the North. They depicted blacks as
being ignorant and pathetic savages, upholding the picture that Dunning first painted. In short,
Dunning s theory had a massive impact on the way the average citizen viewed black people and
offered an excuse to continue to deny them their rights for years to come. It wasn t until the 1930s
when some historians, such as Vann C. Woodward, began to significantly challenge Dunning s
traditional view of Reconstruction. During 1910, there an attempt by W.E.B. Du Bois to counter his
opinion but the attempt did not hold. In Black Reconstruction in America, Du Bois argues that the
corruption spoken about was highly exaggerated and that Dunning overlooked many of
Reconstruction s achievements. Historians disregarded what Du Bois had to say because his use of the
Marxist theory and because he was seen as a radical at the time. It was not until 20 years later when
other historians, known as revisionists, began to echo Du Bois arguments. While these revisionists still
saw Reconstruction as a failure, they disagreed with Dunning

Police Officers And The Police Enforcement
The psychologist serves a great purpose in the law enforcement as well. The police psychologists
provide services that are used to counter police use of excessive force. The psychologists are there to
characterize the types of officers who are known to abuse force and to recommend psychology based
intervention that could help police managers reduce cases of excessive force. Some think that the
police departments should rely mostly on pre employment screening to identify violence prone
candidates.
The psychologist s services that the psychologist provide consist of counseling and evaluation more
than training and monitoring of police behavior. Counseling is more likely to be a response to
excessive force incidents than a preventive step (Scrivner, E, M., 2004).
The psychologists recommend for police departments to periodically evaluate the officer s using
methods other than routine psychological tests. They recommend better training and increasing
behavioral monitoring on all officers. Current screening methods to evaluate police candidates are
limited almost exclusively to psychological tests and preemployment clinical interviews. New
screening technologies could enable psychologists to examine such areas as a candidate s decision
making and problem solving abilities and the ability to interact with others. These things are important
for resolving problems without using excessive force.

The Journey Of Marco Polo
There were many explorers and merchants from the Renaissance, but only one stood out: Marco Polo.
He was most famous for his travels to Asia from Italy, where he grew up. He was known among his
people for his stories, and many believed that his adventures weren t true. He met many people in
Asia, one of the most important person being Kublai Khan, the Khagan of the Mongol Empire at that
time. Later, Polo was captured and taken to a prison, where he wrote his first book. Basically, Marco
Polo was an explorer that went through many adventures.
Marco Polo was born in Venice, Italy on September 15, 1254. His father was Niccolò Polo and mother
was Nicole Anna Defuseh. He was born to a wealthy Venetian merchant family, but his mother died
when he was young, so young Marco was raised by his extended family. He was raised by his
extended family because his father and uncle, Maffeo Polo, successful jewel merchants, were in Asia
on a trading expedition for most of his childhood.
After Marco s father and uncle came back, they set out for Asia again, but this time they brought
Marco with them. The Polos journey was challenging and took place on land. But through it all,
Marco enjoyed the adventure. His later memory for the places and cultures he saw was exceptional.
After four long years, the Polos reached China and Kublai Khan, who was staying at his summer
palace known as Xanadu, a grand marble architectural wonder that dazzled young Marco. They
planned to stay in Asia for only a

To any person who has ever taken a biology class has probably heard of or made an analogy to the
Cell Organelles. I will be making an analogy about how the cell organelles are just like the imaginary
movie land called Whoville . In the cell the one organelle that keeps everything in order in the cell is
the Nucleus. For the analogy of the Nucleus I will be using the mayor of Whoville. The mayor keeps
order and everyone will follow what he says, just like the Nucleus. Another organelle that has an
analogy is the Mitochondria . The Mitochondria is what makes or produces energy for the cell. For
this I will be using the people that made fudge for the Grinch, It provided him with energy. The Golgi

With the Electoral College system for electing the United States president winning the most popular
votes is not a guarantee a candidate will become president. They must also get 270 Electoral College
votes to win. A candidate can become president if he gets at least 270 Electoral College votes and does
not have the most popular votes. Many people do not like the Electoral college system for this reason.
They feel the person with the most popular votes should win.
Unfortunately for them, the Founding Fathers did not have much faith in the American people
selecting the President. They believed the American people s political knowledge was limited so they
were not qualified to elect their President.
At a meeting of the Constitution Convention held on July 17, 1787, Delegate Mason stated A popular
election, in this case, is radically vicious. The ignorance of the people would put it in the power of
some one set of men dispersed the candidates. At the same convention on July 19, 1787, Delegate
Gerry stated that The people are uninformed and would be misled by a few designing men.
The Founding Fathers were afraid if they gave unlimited power to elect the president to some
politically uninformed people it could lead to a tyranny of the majority. To keep this from happening,
they formed the Electoral College system that would be used to elect the president. They felt the
Electoral College system would keep the election of the president from the politically

Throughout The History Of The World, People Have Thought
Throughout the history of the world, people have thought of new and innovative ways to
communicate. In the past, people used smoke signals, telegrams, home telephones, and car telephones.
Now the primary form of communication typically occurs on a cell phone. Cell phones have improved
and developed a significant amount over the years. In 1973, the first cell phone, the Motorola Dyna
Tac, hit the market. It weighed an astonishing two pounds, and only had one feature voice calls. Fast
forward to the present day, most consumers not only own cell phones, but they own smartphones.
These smartphones are now capable of incredible things. Features such as text messaging, video

The study concluded that cell phone conversations and texting conversation both distracted the
pedestrians by delaying their overall response times. This research suggests that both types of phone
usage are unsafe to participate in while attempting to cross a street, and have the potential to lead to an
unsuccessful crossing attempt. Secondly, cell phones are a huge culprit in distracted driving.
Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of collisions in the United States. The drivers with the
least behind the wheel experience, teens and young adults, are the primary culprits of driving while
distracted. The average time it takes to read a text message is 5 seconds. If a person is driving at 55
mph, looking away for that mere 5 seconds is equivalent to not looking while crossing the entire
length of a football field. Granted, there are things other than cell phones that distract people while
driving, but cell phones still play a vital roll in the distracted driving scene. In a study conducted by
Sumie Leung, Rodney Croft, and Melinda Jackson, the effect of mobile phone usage and alcohol
consumption on driving performance are compared. The study involved twelve adults who
participated in a stimulated driving environment either using their phones for a variety of tasks or
consuming alcohol directly prior to driving. The researchers allowed for a one week washout period
between the two different activities. When drivers

The Work Of The Calvin Klein Company
The Calvin Klein company has been trapped into a crisis in 2015 after the Annual Academy Award
ceremony because of a stolen dress full of fake pearls it designed. The public felt betrayed by the
organization because they have been noticed that the pearls were precious and priceless from the
previous news. This crisis largely influences the organization s reputation in a negative way in the next

The Endless Possibilities of 3D Printing Essay
Why go to stores and spend lots of money buying toys, jewelry, cups and many other plastic utilities
when you can only press one button and print them out for yourself. This futuristic idea is not only
innovating the scientific and technological world, but it is also innovating modern day households.
The possibilities of 3D printing are extremely captivating, making this one of the most exciting
innovations in recent times. 3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, makes three
dimensional solid objects from a digital model or command. To picture how this process works, 3D
printers use an additive process, where adding layers of a successive material creates an object.

Although 3 D printers are not yet a standard part of home computing equipment, the latest generation
of devices, such as Cube® by 3D Systems, the Cubex™ or Makerbot s Replicator™2X which retail
for between one and three thousand US dollars are bringing the possibility of home manufacturing one
step closer to reality (Jewell). Now the biggest difference between traditional manufacturing and 3D
printing will be the emergence of mass customization. Goods will be, infinitely more customized,
because altering them won t require retooling, only tweaking the instructions in the software.
Creativity in meeting individuals needs will come to the fore, just as quality control did in the age of
rolling out sameness (D Aveni). When you have a product that is printed out individually from
software with your own customization, then there would be no reason in buying a product that will
look like something another person can own because of its ordinary accessibility. Creating physical
3D models in a fast, easy and affordable way has great potential, especially when you can do it in the
comfort of your home. As 3D printers are becoming live in the market, they demonstrate great
potential by fostering economic growth. The implications of this revolutionary technology indeed

The Cause Of Sudan s Conflict In The United States
Sudan s conflicts are rooted in the creation of the state. During Sudan s Anglo Egyptian colonial rule,
the Arabic Muslim sorth and Christian and animist south were ruled as two distinct entities. The north
was modernised but the south neglected, creating parallel entities which overlooked the diversity and
historical interrelations between the areas. A 1947 policy change to unify them meant that when the
country was granted independence in 1956, Sudan was left with a heavily unified and centralised state,
ruled from the north. The south, which already had social and political grievances, feared it would be
dominated by the Arabic and Islamist North. Promises to create a federal system were soon broken. In

When I Heard The LearnD Astronomer Summary
Looking up at the night all people see different things. They see constellations, heaven, a lifeless void.
All of these interpretations are unique to the person. There is a poem that covers this idea of mixed
meaning named When I heard the Learn d Astronomer by the writer Walt Whitman written in 1865
and published in 1867. The poem explains the speaker is sitting in on a lecture by a knowledgeable
astronomer. The man is sitting in a lecture room and shows an obvious distaste for his setting by
explaining he soon became tired and sick. The lecture uses many blunt mathematical terms such as
figures, columns, charts, diagrams, addition, subtraction, and division. And after the man begins to
feel uneasy he steps out of the lecture hall outside. It is here that he looks up and admires the stars.
The speaker of When I heard the Learn d Astronomer shows distaste for over analysis and the lack of
connection to the natural world through word choice, meter, and sectioning. First, the meter of the first
half of the poem helps develop the idea of overanalysis. An example to illustrate this idea is the first
half of the poem: When I heard the learn d astronomer, When the proofs, the figures, were ranged in
columns before me, When I was shown the charts and diagrams, to add, divide, and measure them,
When I sitting heard the astronomer where he lectured with much applause in the lecture room. The
amount of syllables in the first half increases from 9, to 14, to 18, to 23. The steady syllable count
increase is done intentionally to induce a sense of tension. This tension is needed to give a growing
sense of urgency for the speaker to deny, and turn around and Whitman also put When at the
beginning of each line of lines 1 4. Rigid flow gives a sense monotony, thus making the poem
expectable and not in any way intriguing. The aforementioned case is a connection the speaker wants
us to make through his repetition. To make us associate the mathematical explanation of the heavenly
bodies with drudgery. The line When I was shown the charts and diagrams, to add, divide, and
measure them... is also a good example of that idea. The learn d astronomer is making connections
between mathematical concepts and great beauty

Factors Affecting African American Persistence in the...
Science is comprised of fields that investigate the physical and natural world or events dealing with
matter, energy, and their interrelations with objectively measurable phenomena (Natural Science).
Scientific fields are often subsumed under the umbrella term STEM which stands for Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Historically, STEM fields have been void of diversity and
largely dominated by White males, leaving minority s under represented (Hines 3). Preserving the
integrity of these fields is dependent upon diversity because it prevents bias and promotes the
contributions different backgrounds bring to academia (Hines 4). Today s global market requires a
growing investment in the fields of science education to remain competitive with other countries
(Palmer, Davis and Moore 105). President Baraka Obama has pushed to increase the number of
minorities represented in STEM. In the article Obama Pushes STEM in State of the Union, freelance

Within the political cartoon, Stephen Harper the former prime minister of Canada is portrayed as

Emerson Self Reliance
Emerson starts of the first pages of his enlightened essay with 3 epigraphs one in Latin that translates
to Do not seek outside yourself and That is only one of Emerson s suggestions you take to achieve self
reliance. The next epigraph in Emerson s first pages is a six line stanza from Beaumont and Fletcher s
Honest Man s Fortune and after that is one is a four line stanza that seems to have been written by
Emerson himself. All three epigraphs stress the necessity of relying on on your self for knowledge and
guidance which is the main idea of basically the whole essay. Emerson talks about originality, self
trust, character, society and conforming to it, nature, family, and religion. Now don t be fooled I am
not listing all of Emerson s points in order I am simply explaining all he covers in his essay to further
explain why or why they cannot work in 2017. Emerson begins his argument with individualism by
talking about how you should form your own ideas instead of conforming to others ideas. To believe
that what is true in your private heart is true for all men that is genius. Someone who doubts someone
else s individual opinion and chooses to conform his own opinion to what society has to say afraid if
being criticized himself and he lacks the ability to even produce a thought of sufficient power and
originality. So because the individual can not form his own opinion then he is a victim of society and
he is handed down thoughts by others who have agreed on what is

Hamlet As A Nihilism
William Shakespeare s Hamlet portrays as multitude of ideas, meanings and interpretations. In this
essay, I will focus on analyzing Hamlet through the post modern existential lens of nihilism. Nihilism
has five main types; political, moral, epistemological, cosmic, and existential. Throughout the course
of the play, Hamlet shows many characteristics that showcase these principles , such as apathy and
despair. Hamlet is a nihilist character because through his actions of mania and despair he shows that
life is overall meaningless. He also has a lack of respect for authority and a rejection of moral
principles. Throughout the play, Hamlet shows a general disdain of authority figures In his perspective
they, mainly Claudius, do not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hamlet s wants and desires are completely out of joint with the atmosphere of Elsinore (Bloom).
Hamlet s desires do not follow the status quo of the rest of the people in the caste, or even that of his
time. This is because Hamlet has rejected typical principles and made his own. Moral nihilists refer to
ethical values as nothing more than what each individual gives bias or favor to (Carr). Hamlet s soul is
an empty vase that gives place to nothing (Cutrofello). Following his father s death, Hamlet feels life
has little meaning, he feels hopeless and believes there is no longer any thing good or worth living for
in life. As he describes in Act 1, How weary, stale, flat and unprofitable seem to me all the uses of this
world... Tis an unweeded garden... (1:1, lines 136 139). In this line, Hamlet is explaining that
comparing life after his father s death to a garden that is overgrown and dead; unweeded, flat and
stale. The last and deepest source only reveals itself at the point in which all our foundations have
been destroyed (Carr). This quote expresses perfectly what Hamlet is feeling, he lost one of the most
important figures to him, which ultimately caused his madness and insanity later in the play. The

Case Study Of Cranberry Juice
According to Mintel in 2017, Coca Cola, the parent company of Minute Maid, is first in sales of juice
with 17.2% of the market share. PepsiCo, which owns Tropicana, is second in sales with 12.5% of the
market share. Ocean Spray is fourth with 6.4% of the market share. Ocean Spray s considerable
market share in the cranberry juice category indicates that no other companies pose a significant
threat. Instead, Ocean Spray should focus on stimulating primary demand for cranberry juice as
opposed to other types of juice to compete with larger companies that offer a variety of juice products
such as orange juice, lemonade, etc. Although Minute Maid and Tropicana are not specifically in the
cranberry industry, they are Ocean Spray s biggest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to Ocean Spray, they spend the most on Cable Television. The biggest takeaway from this
company is that they spend most of their ad spending capital on magazines, whereas Ocean Spray
eliminated that category all together (Redbooks, 2017). Moreover, Tropicana spends more than double
on advertising than that of Ocean Spray and Minute Maid. Tropicana spent around $64.5 million in
2015 and around $54 million in 2016. Similarly to Ocean Spray, they stopped spending money on
radio and newspaper advertising in 2016. Additionally, Tropicana also spends around $4 million
magazines which is similar to Minute Maid s approach (Redbooks, 2017).
Advertising Agencies: Ocean Spray v. Competitors
Ocean Spray, Minute Maid, and Tropicana all use large agencies to promote their products. According
to Redbooks, Ocean Spray is represented by Zenith, a company who provides them with Digital,
Media, Media Planning, Media Buying, and Social Media services. Minute Maid uses BBDO for its
Broadcasting, Digital, Print, Social, and Creative. And Tropicana combines services from three:
Ogilvy and Mather for print, Doner for Media Buying, and UM NY for Digital, Experiential, and
Social Media services (2017). All three juice companies likely owe a large portion of their popularity
and notability to these agencies.

Where both films suggest that the Hero s act upon their own freewill; true freewill does not exist but is
a synthesis constructed by the ego of their companion character. This creates justifications for any
crime or action taken by the Hero characters as they act in the name of justice and believe they are
acting freely.
Both the Hitchhikers Guild to The Galaxy and The Matrix has Myth Criticism complexes in nature.
They follow a hero that must fulfill a quest to discover himself and woo a female interest. In either
case the universality of their stories are evident as they are conflicted by the same dilemmas.
Carl Jung suggests that regardless of culture or historical period a part of the human mind contains a
collective unconscious shared by all members of the human species, a sort of universal, primal
memory. Myth Criticism considers this within its teachings by explaining that all stories follow a
universal trend called the Hero Cycle. Within this cycle the hero of the story follows each of the steps
to fulfilling his/her task. Along with the Hero Cycle, Myth Criticism explains there are archetypes
found in each piece of literature or art that are universal in nature. Overall, it is found that the Myth
Criticism base is used frequently as we as humans find solace in the comforts of the Cycle, as it is
familiar to us. In The Hitchhikers Guild to The Galaxy, the Hero is portrayed as Arthur Dent. He is set

The Celebrated Jumping Frog Of Calaveras County Summary
The following essay will lay out a literary analysis of the plot, major characters and the major themes,
of the story The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County. The story takes place in an old mid
19th century mining town called Angels Camp, the narrator claims to go there to find a man by the
name of Simon Wheeler. Like any mining town in the West, it was populated primarily by men, many
of them looking for their fortune. As something of a frontier town, it would probably seem to be full of
loud, uncouth, and uneducated people compared to the more genteel East. The narrator, a mannered
Easterner, describes his visit to a mining camp where, on behalf of a friend, he is searching for one
Leonidas W. Smiley. He stops in an old tavern, where he meets goodnatured, garrulous old Simon
Wheeler, who cannot recall a Leonidas Smiley, but does remember a Jim Smiley who lived in the
camp around 1849 or 1850. Without prompting, Wheeler launches into an extended narrative about the
gambler Smiley and his exploits. Smiley, he says, was uncommon lucky, and had a reputation for ...

Summary Of Democracy Of America By Alexis De Tocqueville
In Democracy of America chapter XVII written by Alexis de Tocqueville, he discusses the plight of
indians(natives). Tocqueville talks about how he believed the fate of Native Americans would be to
completely deprived of liberty. In addition to what he believed, Tocqueville says, The success of the
Cherokees proves that the Indians are capable of civilization, but it does not prove that they will
succeed in it (page 401).Whenever the Indians were able to submit to civilization they were never able
to succeed and Tocqueville saw that from similar situations in Native American history. He predicts
that Native american nations were set to suffer destruction and also that natives will never adapt
themselves to reality, if they attempt to it will be too late. We see that Alexis de tocqueville s
observation proves to be correct in the contemporary stories of Sherman Alexie. Lewis owens believes
that Alexie paints a bitter picture against natives and he is correct in saying that Sherman Alexie s
stories incorrectly shows self destruction, the lack of family life and the inability of natives to blame
anyone but themselves for their situation on the reservation. Sherman Alexie s interconnected stories
describes the life of Native Americans living on the spokane indian reservation. He attempts to display
the natives relationships, history and desires but does otherwise.Instead many can conclude that his
contemporary stories portray self deprivation, isolation from society and no

National Labor Relations Act Research Paper
There are several million undocumented immigrants employed in the United States (Burton, 2015).
Even though the labor market has changed, the original National Labor Relations Act has not. The

union. NLRA created a blanket enforcement of NLBA rights equal for undocumented workers and
U.S. citizens (Zdravecky Hass, 2014). The law does not expressly detail terms who is considered an

Employment opportunities are chief reason illegal aliens come into the United States. NLBA gave
balance of protection to undocumented workers the same as U.S. citizens. Since back pay or
reinstatement is not a remedy the NLRB to correct violations, this gives employers an incentive to
violate the IRCA. The purpose of the Immigration Reform and Control Act is to make it a violation of
the law to hire an employee not authorized to work in the United States. However enforcement of this
law until recent years has not been robust. The court system or congress will need to fix these
loopholes in the current laws to close these gaps. The way the law is created at this time gives an
unfair advantage to employers who want to ignore current immigration laws. Undocumented workers
can be paid lower wages and place in unsafe working conditions without any way to find remedy for
those violations under the current law. The current law does not allow for undocumented immigrant
protection from discrimination and labor relations violations. It is an economic disadvantage for
employers to follow current immigration laws (Layne, 2011). Once the legally immigration laws are
addressed and the conflicts, there is balance based on continued employment of undocumented
workers versus legal citizens. Many times once undocumented immigrants are unemployed, they will
migrate to another location to seek employment. Since employment opportunities and avoiding

Mayan Social Classes
SPICE Analysis S As in many other empires, gender roles and economic classes exist in Maya
Empires also. In the early 9000 to 8000 B.C.E., hunters and gatherers were the two main classes of the
early ages. Clovis hunters also appear around this time in the Mayan region. (Foster, 18) Later on in
the time about 300 B.C.E., Maya was controlled by two main classes which contained full power over
the empire which are kings and nobles. Under their rulings, hierarchical society was created and this
time was called the late preclassic periods.(Foster, 30) In term of burial, people bury the dead

Analysis of Jim Collin s Great by Choice Essay
Human Sexuality Assignment At its core, Great By Choice is a deep exploration of what distinguishes
top performers from their peers during times of chaos, crisis, instability and uncertainty. Rigorous in
its approach but practical in its presentation, Great By Choice to me seems like the perfect handbook
for college seniors such as myself. In tackling the question of what distinguishes top performers in
times of uncertainty, the authors first define what exactly a top performer is and then highlights the
three key ingredients that these individuals were discovered to possess. 10Xers are leaders who built
companies that started from a position of vulnerability, rose to beat their respective industries by at

Basically a forward thinking individual who understands that slow and steady wins the race who is
armed with patience, drive, and the ability to sell their dream to others is needed to obtain success
before anything else. According to Collins the fire bullets, then cannonballs approach is the best way
to explain the success of large companies. The concept is sort of an homage to the days before
automatic handguns. It takes a lot less gunpowder to fire a bullet than a cannonball, so it is more
effective and plausible to start a battle with bullets; and once enough time has been spent preparing for
the big finish then a cannonball can and should be fired. A bullet is a low distraction, low risk, and low
cost test or experiement. There are two types of cannonballs, uncalibrated and calibrated. A calibrated
cannonball is an idea or concept that is backed by evidence, or in this case empirical validation. A
uncalibrated cannonball, in more or less words, is when one places all their eggs in one basket without
taking the time to obtain empirical validation. Again, slow and steady wins the race. Intel s founders
believed that innovation without discipline leads to disaster. This means having the patience to
cultivate, check and double check an idea to make certain it can be executed and delivered. With this
patience one must take it upon themselves to figure out what will and will not work. There is no way

In addition to duty to reporting, I was quiet surprised at how mandated Laws requiring reporting and
the limitations to Confidentiality differ in various states, because coupled to what Joseph and Nellie

if the Counselor/therapist is employed under the attorney, thus making reporting of an abuse void.
(Stein, p. 11). Furthermore on the issue of Confidentiality, I found the video s information and the
information I gathered from the State of Maryland, Board of Professional Counselors/therapists and
the ACA code of ethics websites, contradictory. According to the discussion, on the Video, a third
party can be granted access into a victim s records, but according to both Maryland and ACA code of
ethics websites, Clients recorded are not supposed to be made known to a third party, unless the Client
issues an informed consent. So I just think revealing a Client s information is in violation of the code

Essay on Virginia Woolf’s Between the Acts
Virginia Woolf s Between the acts
Virginia Woolf uses many images in the Between the Acts. Like the other novels I read in the class,
the images in the Between the Acts cannot be separated with the story development, and the images
themselves construct the story in the book by dismantling the conventional expectation for the novel.
However, Woolf uses common and conventional words and images with an experimental way in this
novel. This novel constructs the images and the representation with their conventional words and
actions of the characters. I think Woof explores how the communal use of the words like songs and
cliché makes another meaning or another reversion in their daily life here. The characters in the novel
are in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All incidents and people in the book can be said to do something between their presence and their
absent future and absent hope which is coming to them by the appearance of the war. The occurrence
of the nature in the book which is placed mainly is not their purpose or their attempt for the purpose,
but the interruption occurring in the everywhere and dispersing to the every place in the book. The
interruption from the uncontrollable is the main character in Between the Acts. All words have another
meaning which is not intended by the interlocutors so that it can be an another interruption between
the interlocutors. It is the book about the control and release of the acts and words. All actions which
should be controlled by the owners are dispersed in the whole book without any apparent connection.
This book is written by Virginia Woolf who feels the imminence of the war. The characters and the
situation in the novel are also confronted with the forthcoming war and feel the insecure ambience of
the war. In this insecure background, this book is attempting to grasp something which is not here and
also not there in the war. I think it is the hope for themselves and the hope which is dispersed in the
nature around themselves. In Between the acts, there is no center which is gathering the story and the
characters. It is the story to disperse the center if there is one. It is the story about the between. In
between, there is a play which is cut and

Main Themes In Ayn Rand s Novel The Fountainhead
Main Theme) The novel The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, has many themes that are represented
throughout. However, one of the most prominent moments in the novel which relates most strongly
with the themes of The Fountainhead was when Ellsworth Toohey confronts Howard Roark and says,
Mr. Roark, we re alone here. Why don t you tell me what you think of me? To which Roark replies,
But I don t think of you. This brief exchange of words between the two men tells all there is about the
themes of Ayn Rand s novel. Roark s statement conveys the themes of the nature of reality, integrity,
and individualism.
To start with, Howard Roark s statement to Ellsworth Toohey really conveyed the theme of the nature
of reality. The nature of reality fits in with the main theme of Ayn Rand s objectivism. This idea of the
nature of reality is certain and absolute. Howard believes that facts are facts. It doesn t matter what
anyone else thinks. Nobody s goals, fears, hopes, or needs matter. Howard believes that his thinking
and thoughts must be practical and everything he does is based on this philosophy. Howard doesn t

Howard s integrity has a direct link to his sense of individualism. In the novel, it is virtually every man
for his or herself. The only opinion that should matter is their own, and they must reject everyone else
s opinion, hence refusing to conform to society s opinions. When Howard states that he does not think
of Toohey at all, he is embracing his individuality. Howard finds him irrelevant, and his opinion of
him doesn t matter at all because the only thing that matters is what Howard thinks of himeself. In
order for Roark to be his own person and not conform to society s standards, he must act selfishly.
Howard s sense of individuality is one of the greatest virtues he can possess along with his

Virginia Woolf Research Paper
Virginia Woolf, born January 25th 1882, was an unorthodox British author and feminist who had an
immeasurable impact on women, those with mental illnesses, and the LGBT community. She was self
educated and even though her father a literary critic didn t condone women going to college he still
helped educate and influence Virginia. Woolf is believed to have revolutionized the english essay,
because she never learned how to write a set essay in school she came up with her own way. Virginia
Woolfs childhood was cloaked with chaos and darkness. Her father was very temperamental and
brooding. This only worsened after her mothers death in 1895 causing her father to withdraw into his
studies. Woolf had also been being sexually abused by her half brothers from her mothers previous
marriage. This abuse continued even after her mothers death into her young adulthood. Her mothers
death along with her sexual abuse was to highly conductive to Virginia; causing her to have her first of
many breakdowns at only 13. Virginia s father died ten years after her mother, shortly after Virginia
had another breakdown and made her first suicide attempt. There has been much controversy about the
causes of her chronic breakdowns. Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She released her first essay and began teaching literature at Morley college. Virginia claims that if her
father lived she would have never became a writer. Woolf was very noncommittal towards marriage
and turned down various suitors. Beginning in 1910 Woolf became an advocate for Women rights.
Virginia liked to think of herself as very independent and in 1911 she rented a house which was a big
deal for the time period. The idea of women having their own space to create was exceedingly
important to her and so she wrote A Room Of Ones Own which is now considered a masterpiece of

The Importance Of Animals In Captivity
Zoos, and Marine parks make multi billions of dollars a year from the tourist, families, and kids who
visit. (Linda Goldston). The animals were meant to live in the wild, and be free. Zoos trap animals in
an environment that is one millionth the size of their natural habitat causing them to behave
unnaturally. Even under the best circumstances at the best of zoos, captivity cannot be compared to
their natural habitat. Animals are prevented from doing the things that are natural and important to
them, like running, roaming, flying, climbing, choosing a partner, and being with others of their own
kind. Zoos teach people that it is acceptable to interfere with animals and keep them locked up in

(Katherine Glosser). Polar bears cover 31,000 square miles in their habitat searching for food. In a zoo
they are living in an area that is one millionth the size smaller than they belong in. Being in a small
area causes the polar bear to stress and pace.(Katherine Glosser). Animals such as giraffes and zebras
were designed, and are built, to run across miles of the safari, which is something they cannot do in
captivity. A whale travels up to 100 miles a day, and can go 1,000 feet deep. At SeaWorld a pool is
only 27.6 feet deep. Many visitors at SeaWorld have noticed that the orcas dorsal fin is floppy when it
is supposed to be straight up. That is due to the small space and sadness the whale has. (Katherine
Glosser). In captivity, these whales can only swim in endless circles in tanks that are equivalent to
bathtubs, and they don t even come close to being the space they need for any natural behavior. They
are forced to perform meaningless tricks and often taken away from family members when they re
shuffled between parks. Most die far short of their natural life

  • 2. The Beanstalk Introduction (first slide) For this media assignment I selected to analyze Jack and The Beanstalk and the lens I will be using will be the feminist lens. Summary of text (second slide) Just to briefly recap, Jack and The Beanstalk narrates the story about Jack, a young poor boy living with his widowed mother and their cow who is their only source of income. He is to sell the futile cow who s stopped giving milk and find a job to support his mother and himself. Instead, he trades his cow for some magic bean when offered the opportunity. Overnight, the beans grow into a beanstalk with a magical land at the peak. Jack discovers it s home to a man eating ogre and his wife, the ogresse. Deceptively, Jack steals the ogre s golden coins, magical hen and singing harp. After facing a confrontation with the ogre and winning he becomes rich, marries a princess and lives happily ever after. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Contextual evidence/Analysis The widow is objectified as this being with a lack of emotional stability whereas her son is portrayed as cool, calm and collected. The ogresse, on the other hand, is Jack s nurturer and the ogre s housewife. In addition, the women are illustrated as oppressed, secondary, unimportant characters in contrast to the masculine power that is being represented through the depiction of the men in the story at the same time upholding the stereotype that mentally, emotionally and physically men will always be stronger than women which is how the ogre and Jack see their mother and wife: inadequate. Picture #1 The first picture illustrates the idea wife in her natural role and environment: repressing her needs and wants and taking care of everyone else but herself Picture ... • 3. The Challenges Of Smallholder Dairy Farming Systems Climate change and variability (CCV) is one of the greatest challenges to Smallholder Dairy Farming Systems (SDFS) yet demand for Animal Source Foods (ASF) is projected to rise (FAO, 2011) due to population growth, urban migration coupled with increased spending in developing countries as a result of improved incomes (Giovannucci et al., 2012). In Kenya SDFS form one of the most important key livelihood strategies of rural communities with dominance over the national milk sector accounting for 80% of total milk produced and a corresponding agricultural Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 30% (FAO, 2011a). Other factors that negatively impact SDFS include: poor agronomic practices; reduced fodder and crop residue yields (; land fragmentation; ... Reduced LGP is likely to trigger shifts from SDFS (mixed crop and livestock production) to more dominant livestock based production systems with a high probability of offsetting the food balance due to increased frequency of failure of traditionally grown crops (Anyamba et al., 2014; Niang et al., 2014). These scenarios lead to dynamic complexities and dynamic farming systems where SDFS test and adopt both indigenous methods based on perceptions of CCV and modern technologies that work best for increased productivity (Mertz et al., 2009; Below et al, 2014). According to Giovannucci et al. (2012) rural urban migration in Sub Saharan Africa (SSA) is associated with CCV (FAO, 2015) and directly impacts labour availability resulting to women and the elderly taking on additional and non traditional gendered roles that include offering social protection (WHO, 2011) thus increasing exposure to climate related risks that further affect productivity (Beddington et al., 2012a; Giovannucci et al., 2012; FAO, 2015). Production is further compounded by limited access and control over factors of production (land, credit, assets, knowledge, technology and efficient extension services) (Giovannucci et al., 2012; Antwi Agyei et al., 2013) that aid in adaptation strategies by women who own and manage most SDFS (FAO, 2015). The Underlying Courage in “A Wrinkle in Time” The Underlying Courage in A Wrinkle in Time Typically in novels there are many supporting themes to create the storyline in the novel; in A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L Engle a major theme in the novel is courage. It shows in almost every chapter, through Margaret (Meg) Murry and Charles Wallace Murry. The quest the kids go through in the novel corresponds to Joseph Campbell s Hero s journey also the type of courage found within the Christian framework. Courage is having the strength to resist and endure fear, danger, and difficulty; it is the main thing that can keep the children together on the journey. • 5. The Decision Of Our Final Residential Location Choice Model Before the decision of our final residential location choice model, we tested how preferences of residential location are different among age and income groups. Stratifying the sample of households by age and income is helpful to identify some of the heterogeneity in housing preferences among different market segments as well as investigate whether differences of location preferences exist between different groups. All the household location choice models performed reasonably well as shown in table 1, 2, and 3. The empirical results show that different age groups have different residential location preferences. As shown in Table 1, the access to employment is statistically significant and positive in Groups 1 and 3 but insignificant in Group 2. This result implies that job opportunity is an important factor in the household residential location choice decision, especially for the young and old household groups. On the other hand, households in Group 2 do not tend to prefer the location where job opportunity is relatively good, although it is not statistically significant. Rather, land price is positive and significant in Group 2, which means they are likely to choose the location where land price is high. This may be because most households in Group 2 consider their children s education in their residential location decision. In specific, good education environment including public and private schools is a very important factor in Korea. However, we do not include the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Crime And Crime Possible explanations To find a correlation between immigration and crime we must look at cultural differences. Thorsten Sellin, a sociologist from the University of Pennsylvania, argues that conflicting conduct norms between the old and new societies is the principal cause of crime among youth. Sellin points to immigrant s values in that they often deviate from receiving societies (Sellin, 1938). To summarize, in the absence of clear cut rules, individuals are likely to deviate from norms that are not self evident. Sellin s argument points to an increase in crime and delinquency because migrant populations are unable or unsuccessful to cultural adaption to the hosting society. Edwin Sutherland, a criminologist in Pennsylvania, also points to acculturation as a connection to crime regarding immigrants (Sutherland, 1978). Sutherland argues that the blame should not be on immigrant s cultural origins but instead the acculturation into American Society, which would naturally affect the second generation immigrants. Sutherlands view has led some to believe that second generation immigrants may be more crime prone. Sutherland states that ..this acculturation perspective addresses the problem of cultural assimilation and its effect on delinquency and risky behavior (Sutherland, 1978). Sutherland brings up a valid point in that the reason we statistically see later generations of immigrants committing crime is that they are naturalizing to American society. However, even ... When you think of a princess you may picture a girl with a lavish dress on and a crown full of jewels on top of her head, but not in William Goldman s The Princess Bride. The readers encounter just a regular girl from a family that was never royalty, and who is always thinking of her one true love who was once thought dead. The use of Imagery is seen in William Goldman s The Princess Bride when the author tells about when he did not like to read, The Zoo of Death, and The Cliffs of Insanity. When readers read a story written by an author they will usually think that the author likes to read books and is what led the author to writing a book. William Goldman said, As a child, I had no Interest in reading (Goldman 3), this can lead readers to imagining the author as a young child rather than an adult not wanting to read a book. When Readers imagine the author as a young child the image imagined can give a better sense of how the author felt as a young child. The imagination of a child giving the reader a picture to think about is less complex than that of a adult giving a reader a picture to think about. The Zoo is ever child s dream of seeing strange animals that they have never seen before, but this zoo is like no other. It was kept with things he could hunt, and it really wasn t like any animal sanctuary (Goldman 60). The zoo of Death as the zoo is called is full of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Historiography of the Reconstruction Era Riham Elshazli Professor Clement Price Civil War and the Reconstruction 12/11/12 Historiography of the Reconstruction Era At a time when America was trying to piece itself back together, the Reconstruction Era is one of the most important chapters in history. It is also, however, one of the most debated. After the Civil War, the South was devastated and thousands of freed slaves needed to be integrated into society. When Andrew Johnson took office, he was moderate in his views as to what should happen to restore order to the United States. However, some Republicans had other plans in mind. They wanted to impose harsher terms and used Congress to do so, justly giving them the name Radical Republicans. Opinions about this time period have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dunning s work popularized derogatory terms such as carpetbagger and scalawag. Soon, his academic view of Reconstruction became the widespread view held by everyone around the country as movies such as Birth of a Nation and Gone with the Wind became popular. These movies portrayed Reconstruction as an era of tragic exploitation of the South by the North. They depicted blacks as being ignorant and pathetic savages, upholding the picture that Dunning first painted. In short, Dunning s theory had a massive impact on the way the average citizen viewed black people and offered an excuse to continue to deny them their rights for years to come. It wasn t until the 1930s when some historians, such as Vann C. Woodward, began to significantly challenge Dunning s traditional view of Reconstruction. During 1910, there an attempt by W.E.B. Du Bois to counter his opinion but the attempt did not hold. In Black Reconstruction in America, Du Bois argues that the corruption spoken about was highly exaggerated and that Dunning overlooked many of Reconstruction s achievements. Historians disregarded what Du Bois had to say because his use of the Marxist theory and because he was seen as a radical at the time. The police psychologists provide services that are used to counter police use of excessive force. The psychologists are there to characterize the types of officers who are known to abuse force and to recommend psychology based intervention that could help police managers reduce cases of excessive force. Some think that the police departments should rely mostly on pre employment screening to identify violence prone candidates. The psychologist s services that the psychologist provide consist of counseling and evaluation more than training and monitoring of police behavior. Counseling is more likely to be a response to excessive force incidents than a preventive step (Scrivner, E, M., 2004). The psychologists recommend for police departments to periodically evaluate the officer s using methods other than routine psychological tests. They recommend better training and increasing behavioral monitoring on all officers. Current screening methods to evaluate police candidates are limited almost exclusively to psychological tests and preemployment clinical interviews. New screening technologies could enable psychologists to examine such areas as a candidate s decision making and problem solving abilities and the ability to interact with others. These things are important for resolving problems without using excessive force. (Scrivner, E, M, 2004) Psychologist are used to assess the mental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unfortunately for them, the Founding Fathers did not have much faith in the American people selecting the President. They believed the American people s political knowledge was limited so they were not qualified to elect their President. At a meeting of the Constitution Convention held on July 17, 1787, Delegate Mason stated A popular election, in this case, is radically vicious. At the same convention on July 19, 1787, Delegate Gerry stated that The people are uninformed and would be misled by a few designing men. • 17. When I Heard The LearnD Astronomer Summary Looking up at the night all people see different things. They see constellations, heaven, a lifeless void. All of these interpretations are unique to the person. There is a poem that covers this idea of mixed meaning named When I heard the Learn d Astronomer by the writer Walt Whitman written in 1865 and published in 1867. The poem explains the speaker is sitting in on a lecture by a knowledgeable astronomer. The man is sitting in a lecture room and shows an obvious distaste for his setting by explaining he soon became tired and sick. The lecture uses many blunt mathematical terms such as figures, columns, charts, diagrams, addition, subtraction, and division. And after the man begins to feel uneasy he steps out of the lecture hall outside. It is here that he looks up and admires the stars. The speaker of When I heard the Learn d Astronomer shows distaste for over analysis and the lack of connection to the natural world through word choice, meter, and sectioning. First, the meter of the first half of the poem helps develop the idea of overanalysis. An example to illustrate this idea is the first half of the poem: When I heard the learn d astronomer, When the proofs, the figures, were ranged in columns before me, When I was shown the charts and diagrams, to add, divide, and measure them, When I sitting heard the astronomer where he lectured with much applause in the lecture room. The amount of syllables in the first half increases from 9, to 14, to 18, to 23. The steady syllable count increase is done intentionally to induce a sense of tension. This tension is needed to give a growing sense of urgency for the speaker to deny, and turn around and Whitman also put When at the beginning of each line of lines 1 4. Rigid flow gives a sense monotony, thus making the poem expectable and not in any way intriguing. The aforementioned case is a connection the speaker wants us to make through his repetition. To make us associate the mathematical explanation of the heavenly bodies with drudgery. The line When I was shown the charts and diagrams, to add, divide, and measure them... is also a good example of that idea. In Maya preclassic hiatus, droughts and volcanic eruptions occurred during this period and could have caused the social displacement and political upheaval that explain the increase in fortifications at this time. This wasn t a natural disaster but instead it was caused by deforestation. Its high climate drove people out of Mirador Basin and also due to its high climate, it turn Earth into hard to farm clays. It destroyed elaborate gardens and wetland agriculture of dykes and artificial fields that sustained large preclassic populations in the lowlands. In southern Maya area, the impact of drought was compounded by the eruption of the Ilopango volcano from 200 C.E. to 250 C.E. in central El Salvador.(Foster, 42) During the late classic period, Chalchuapa started the manufacture of obsidian blades and became a very important trade item. To begin, The French Chef begins with Julia welcoming her viewers as she pulls a dish out of the oven, and introduces the dish she will be cooking on her show. After welcoming her audience an opening title appears with the name of the show, Julia s name, and the dish she will be preparing ( Julia Child The French Chef The Spinach Twins , 2016). Then, during the preparation of the dish Julia takes her time going at a slow, but comfortable pace when showing how to prepare her dish. Analysis of Jim Collin s Great by Choice Essay Human Sexuality Assignment At its core, Great By Choice is a deep exploration of what distinguishes top performers from their peers during times of chaos, crisis, instability and uncertainty. Rigorous in its approach but practical in its presentation, Great By Choice to me seems like the perfect handbook for college seniors such as myself. In tackling the question of what distinguishes top performers in times of uncertainty, the authors first define what exactly a top performer is and then highlights the three key ingredients that these individuals were discovered to possess. 10Xers are leaders who built companies that started from a position of vulnerability, rose to beat their respective industries by at least 10 times, and did so in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Basically a forward thinking individual who understands that slow and steady wins the race who is armed with patience, drive, and the ability to sell their dream to others is needed to obtain success before anything else. According to Collins the fire bullets, then cannonballs approach is the best way to explain the success of large companies. The concept is sort of an homage to the days before automatic handguns. It takes a lot less gunpowder to fire a bullet than a cannonball, so it is more effective and plausible to start a battle with bullets; and once enough time has been spent preparing for the big finish then a cannonball can and should be fired. A bullet is a low distraction, low risk, and low cost test or experiement. There are two types of cannonballs, uncalibrated and calibrated. A calibrated cannonball is an idea or concept that is backed by evidence, or in this case empirical validation. A uncalibrated cannonball, in more or less words, is when one places all their eggs in one basket without taking the time to obtain empirical validation. Again, slow and steady wins the race. Intel s founders believed that innovation without discipline leads to disaster. This means having the patience to cultivate, check and double check an idea to make certain it can be executed and delivered. With this patience one must take it upon themselves to figure out what will and will not work. There is no way to predict the future, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to duty to reporting, I was quiet surprised at how mandated Laws requiring reporting and the limitations to Confidentiality differ in various states, because coupled to what Joseph and Nellie were discussing in Feldman s video , New York lawyer are not obligated to carry out reporting (Stein, 2004). In some cases, Professional Counselors/therapists are covered under attorney Client privilege, if the Counselor/therapist is employed under the attorney, thus making reporting of an abuse void. (Stein, p. 11). Furthermore on the issue of Confidentiality, I found the video s information and the information I gathered from the State of Maryland, Board of Professional Counselors/therapists and the ACA code of ethics websites, contradictory. According to the discussion, on the Video, a third party can be granted access into a victim s records, but according to both Maryland and ACA code of ethics websites, Clients recorded are not supposed to be made known to a third party, unless the Client issues an informed consent. So I just think revealing a Client s information is in violation of the code of conduct and HIPPA act, just like Nurse Brown and the incompetent social worker, they were in violation of the Statue and I could say, COMAR 10.58.04; Professional Competence. • 32. Essay on Virginia Woolf’s Between the Acts Virginia Woolf s Between the acts Virginia Woolf uses many images in the Between the Acts. Like the other novels I read in the class, the images in the Between the Acts cannot be separated with the story development, and the images themselves construct the story in the book by dismantling the conventional expectation for the novel. However, Woolf uses common and conventional words and images with an experimental way in this novel. This novel constructs the images and the representation with their conventional words and actions of the characters. I think Woof explores how the communal use of the words like songs and cliché makes another meaning or another reversion in their daily life here. The characters in the novel are in the ... The occurrence of the nature in the book which is placed mainly is not their purpose or their attempt for the purpose, but the interruption occurring in the everywhere and dispersing to the every place in the book. The interruption from the uncontrollable is the main character in Between the Acts. All words have another meaning which is not intended by the interlocutors so that it can be an another interruption between the interlocutors. It is the book about the control and release of the acts and words. All actions which should be controlled by the owners are dispersed in the whole book without any apparent connection. This book is written by Virginia Woolf who feels the imminence of the war. The characters and the situation in the novel are also confronted with the forthcoming war and feel the insecure ambience of the war. In this insecure background, this book is attempting to grasp something which is not here and also not there in the war. I think it is the hope for themselves and the hope which is dispersed in the nature around themselves. In Between the acts, there is no center which is gathering the story and the characters. It is the story to disperse the center if there is one. It is the story about the between. In between, there is a play which is cut and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Main Themes In Ayn Rand s Novel The Fountainhead Main Theme) The novel The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, has many themes that are represented throughout. However, one of the most prominent moments in the novel which relates most strongly with the themes of The Fountainhead was when Ellsworth Toohey confronts Howard Roark and says, Mr. Roark, we re alone here. Why don t you tell me what you think of me? To which Roark replies, But I don t think of you. This brief exchange of words between the two men tells all there is about the themes of Ayn Rand s novel. Roark s statement conveys the themes of the nature of reality, integrity, and individualism. To start with, Howard Roark s statement to Ellsworth Toohey really conveyed the theme of the nature of reality. The nature of reality fits in with the main theme of Ayn Rand s objectivism. This idea of the nature of reality is certain and absolute. Howard believes that facts are facts. It doesn t matter what anyone else thinks. Nobody s goals, fears, hopes, or needs matter. Howard believes that his thinking and thoughts must be practical and everything he does is based on this philosophy. Howard doesn t care about what societies ... When Howard states that he does not think of Toohey at all, he is embracing his individuality. Howard finds him irrelevant, and his opinion of him doesn t matter at all because the only thing that matters is what Howard thinks of himeself. In order for Roark to be his own person and not conform to society s standards, he must act selfishly. Howard s sense of individuality is one of the greatest virtues he can possess along with his ... • 36. Virginia Woolf Research Paper Virginia Woolf, born January 25th 1882, was an unorthodox British author and feminist who had an immeasurable impact on women, those with mental illnesses, and the LGBT community. She was self educated and even though her father a literary critic didn t condone women going to college he still helped educate and influence Virginia. Woolf is believed to have revolutionized the english essay, because she never learned how to write a set essay in school she came up with her own way. Virginia Woolfs childhood was cloaked with chaos and darkness. Her father was very temperamental and brooding. This only worsened after her mothers death in 1895 causing her father to withdraw into his studies. Woolf had also been being sexually abused by her half brothers from her mothers previous marriage. This abuse continued even after her mothers death into her young adulthood. Her mothers death along with her sexual abuse was to highly conductive to Virginia; causing her to have her first of many breakdowns at only 13. Virginia s father died ten years after her mother, shortly after Virginia had another breakdown and made her first suicide attempt. Virginia liked to think of herself as very independent and in 1911 she rented a house which was a big deal for the time period. The animals were meant to live in the wild, and be free. Zoos trap animals in an environment that is one millionth the size of their natural habitat causing them to behave unnaturally. Even under the best circumstances at the best of zoos, captivity cannot be compared to their natural habitat. Animals are prevented from doing the things that are natural and important to them, like running, roaming, flying, climbing, choosing a partner, and being with others of their own kind. Zoos teach people that it is acceptable to interfere with animals and keep them locked up in captivity, where they are bored, cramped, lonely, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Katherine Glosser). Polar bears cover 31,000 square miles in their habitat searching for food. In a zoo they are living in an area that is one millionth the size smaller than they belong in. Being in a small area causes the polar bear to stress and pace.(Katherine Glosser). Animals such as giraffes and zebras were designed, and are built, to run across miles of the safari, which is something they cannot do in captivity. A whale travels up to 100 miles a day, and can go 1,000 feet deep. At SeaWorld a pool is only 27.6 feet deep. Many visitors at SeaWorld have noticed that the orcas dorsal fin is floppy when it is supposed to be straight up. That is due to the small space and sadness the whale has. (Katherine Glosser). In captivity, these whales can only swim in endless circles in tanks that are equivalent to bathtubs, and they don t even come close to being the space they need for any natural behavior. They are forced to perform meaningless tricks and often taken away from family members when they re shuffled between parks. Most die far short of their natural life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
