Technology Has Influenced The Way Of Communication
Advanced technology has influenced the way we communicate with each other; It also has negative
influences. Modern technology has helped people get in touch with their loved ones Within seconds.
Fifty years ago, people sent letters to communicate with their relatives and friends. In today s
generations, people use many forms of communication, such as calling, texting, emailing, video
chatting, and many more. Modern technology helped improve communication at a personal level.
Teens and young adults will prefer communication through social media and texting than face to face
communication. It has depersonalized society by the other method of communication, and has made
communication less needed. Face to face communication is meaningful and it s more personal. With
face to face, you can observe the person s reaction to what you re saying. You can tell if they re
apathetic or not. The connection is more real with face to face conversation. Essential question can
technology fix or break a relationship? In this research you re going to learn how our technologies
changing the way people interact with each other?, when is texting rude? Has texting made this
generation less respectful of other people, and are online relationships successful? Social media and
cell phones can strengthen families bond. With the internet people can communicate from miles apart,
anywhere in the world there is no limitation. Families can call relatives who live on the other side of

The Conventional Nuclear Family in Britain Today Essay
The Conventional Nuclear Family in Britain Today
Since the Industrial revelation the nuclear family has been recognised as the norm of British society
and although there have been recent changes in family life, is the norm of Britain today still the
conventional nuclear family?
The nuclear family has always been considered the norm in society ever since the industrial revolution
but in society today the single parent family has had a dramatic increase from around 4% to 10% and
no longer is the conventional nuclear family the powerful norm that it used to be.
The supposed value of the traditional family unit is that it provides social cohesion and stability
because the family home is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He believed that without these functions society would breakdown. He suggested that the nuclear
family is such an important social institution, playing such vital functions in maintaining society that it
is found in some form in every society. However although most societies in the world have some
established arrangements for the production, rearing and socialisation of children this does not mean
that these arrangements always involve the prime responsibility resting on the family.
However there have been criticisms of Murdock suggesting that in his passion for his work he may
have been caught up in the fact that there may have been other institutions within society, which can
perform various functions of the family that he describes as being indispensable
Parsons stated that the nuclear family performs two core functions; the primary socialization of
children, and the stabilization of adult personalities. Parsons argues that the women s role in the
family is expressive , providing warmth, security and emotional support to the husband and children,
and the males role is instrumental , as the breadwinner. This view of the family and gender roles for
men and women is quite old fashioned. Nowadays conjugal roles are more symmetrical. Women can
now be wage earners and it no longer seems deviant for men to take a role in childcare and the

Memory and Human Survival
CASE SCENARIO ESSAY: TOPIC 1
After a motor vehicle accident Tom was left with an acquired brain injury with damage to the frontal
lobe and the left temporal lobe. As a result Tom has been experiencing many difficulties, in particular
with his memory. Memory refers to the mental capacity to retain information and convert it into a
form that can be stored and retrieved at a later time. Storing and retrieving memories involves passing
information from one stage to the next and then retrieving that information from long term memory.
(Burton, Westen Kowalski, 2012, p.261) Memory is an integral part of human survival and without it,
learning new skills, such as the ones required by Tom to regain his loss of function, could never
prevail. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Declarative memory is further divided into semantic memory and episodic memory. Semantic memory
is an acquired meaning of structured record of facts, meanings, concepts and knowledge about the
external world whereas episodic memory is memories of experiences and specific events in time that
are often autobiographical and have emotions associated with them.
Due to his acquired brain injury, with damage to his frontal and left temporal lobe, it has been
identified that Tom is currently experiencing difficulties with working memory. Difficulties with
working memory are often seen as an inability to stay on task and following multi stepped instructions
as it becomes challenging to manipulate information in the brain. In addition to this, Tom is also
displaying further memory difficulties with the damage to his left temporal lobe being the most
probable cause. The left temporal lobe is believed to play an import role in long term memory as well
as the location of the Wernicke s area that holds the storage of the semantics of language. This area
may have received damage to as Tom is showing difficulty with understanding language, yet another
difficulty that will need to be considered throughout his rehabilitation. Specifically the medial
temporal lobe, and hippocampal region are known to play a role in the formation of new semantic
knowledge. Therefore if Tom received severe damage to

Comparing Cassatt s Woman And Child Before A Washstand And...
Soltes (2011) discusses Cassatt s, Woman and Child before a Washstand and Bowl (1889) and
describes the tones of a delicate palate characteristic of Impressionist painting. He notes her
brushwork is tighter than typical Impressionism and is similar to that of Degas, assuming their close
relationship affected her artistic style as a painter. Her subject matter echoes the continuity of the
Madonna and Christ child yet in a modern humanized version of an actual mother and child. Soltes
(2011) regards Cassatt as: an important link between America and Europe because she is a
consummate painter in the Impressionist mode of her own particularized style; but because she was
well off enough to purchase Impressionist works and bring them back to the United States, which
helped further tighten the link between American appreciation of Impressionism and the
Impressionism being produced in France and in Europe in general (L35, 22:28). Finally, John Singer
Sargent (1856 1925) was another American artist with a strong influence of French Impressionism
from spending time in Paris. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He s offered us a completely abstract image which offers layers of large blocks of color that affect
each other with regard to pushing and pulling, into and out from, the picture plane. It contrasts those
ordered rectilinear blocks with a series of chaotic splotches that seem to shrink down in decreasing
size, all the way down to passages that are almost pointillist in feel. So we get from this visual context,
a kind of sense of landscape, which is reinforced by the fact that the dominating color along the lower
part is a kind of tawny sand like color; and the dominating light blue above it, suggests the shore of
the sands and the sky, and then all of that green dominated material in between could be taken to be
vegetation that is growing on the edge of the sea, into the sky. (L40,

Essay On Nectar In A Sieve
The imperialized do not accept the imperialists because even though the imperialists help the
uncivilized, they also cause many problems. In the novel, when Rukmani and kenny are talking about
how their cultural ways are different, Rukmani says If you lived here your whole life [this] still would
not be [your country] (Markandaya 107). Even though Kenny has helped Rukmani and her daughter
countless times throughout the novel, the tone that she uses in this sentence shows us that she never
thought of kenny as one of them. Rukmani s use of the phrase your whole life emphasizes the point
that she is trying to make which is that no matter how long you stay here and how much you help us,
this will never be your country and you will never be one of us. Nectar in a sieve is not the only

This cartoon shows us that even though the British were trying hard to help these undeveloped
countries, they were causing them unnecessary problems. If we look at the political cartoon and the
novel Nectar in a Sieve, we can see that in both cases, even though the people from the developed
nations are trying to help the uncivilized, the uncivilized do not agree with their ways and do not think
of each other as one. In the novel, Rukmani tells Kenny that she doesn t see him as one of them, and in
the cartoon, we can see that the man carrying the baskets (the imperialists), even though he is leading
them to civilization, is causing distress to the people in the basket (the imperialized). Therefore, we
can conclude that Imperialism reflects dominance rather than global progress because the people being

some fundamental conditions must be present. The client must be anxious or incongruent and in
contact with the therapist. Therapists must be genuine, whereby their words, nonverbal mannerisms
and feelings are not to be contradicting. In addition, they must also accept the client and show
unconditional care towards them. The therapist must understand the client s thoughts, the ideas,
experiences, and feelings, when communicating back this empathic understanding
(Murdock, 2009).
Firstly, congruence (genuineness or realness) refers to the therapist s openness, genuineness and the
willingness to relate to clients without hiding behind a professional front.
Therapists who conduct sessions with this sincerity in mind have all their feelings available to them in
therapy sessions and may share significant emotional reactions with their clients.
However, congruence does not mean that therapists shift the focus of therapy to themselves in any
way or have a predetermined direction, or impose a professional agenda to their clients during
sessions. [Corey, 2005]

Assault Or Discipline Essay
Assault or Discipline When describing a physical altercation between two adults, the term is assault
and battery. Assault on an individual has more than immediate effects; the effects can last a lifetime in
severe cases. In all fifty states, it is a crime to hit, strike or use corporal punishment in any deliberate
manner towards any person over the age of eighteen. However, this law does not apply to physical
force being used on minors. Spanking, whipping, and paddling are among a few common references
to this form of punishment. Physically disciplining children has had many names over the years. No
matter which term is used, corporal punishment has a negative impact on every party involved. It is a

America no longer holds executions in the street, no longer condones segregation, and even gives
animals the right to not be mistreated. It has strived to become a country of equal opportunity and
treatment. Yet, America allows the injustice of children being mistreated within its borders everyday.
Most parents do not see the injustice that they are imposing upon their children, or the negative
influence they are portraying. The continuing pattern of injustice is seen in the opposition. The
opposing side argues the fact that they were spanked as children and this action has done no long term
damage to them. The damage they are looking for is unseen. It is in the way they function as a parent,
spouse, co worker, and even affects their sub conscious thinking. The fact that these people were
subjected to spanking as children is the reason they have justified their argument for hitting their
children. It creates a pattern and increases the likelihood the children in these situations will continue
that pattern (AAP 725). Most parents do not know how to stop the cycle. Parents must decide for
themselves how to take control of the situation, and decide what results they want for their own
children. When the choice is made to use spanking as a disciplinary method, children are often left
with more negative psychological results than parents intend. Parental behavior is the supposed to be
an example to children of what love looks

Ophelia Foil To Hamlet
In a play filled with despair and suffering, love can still play an important role. Hamlet, Prince of
Denmark by William Shakespeare, is a play about revenge with eight deaths. Despite this, the
relationship between two characters, Hamlet and Ophelia is extremely vital to the theme of the work
and influences how the characters in the play act. It does this through how Ophelia acts like a foil to
Hamlet, how the pair views each other, and what themes present in the play the relationship
emphasizes..
One of the important points in the relationship between Hamlet and Ophelia is how Ophelia acts like a
foil to Hamlet. One of the ways Ophelia dos this is through her madness. While Hamlet fakes
madness, Ophelia is actually mad. Hamlet spends the

My Purpose Of School
At some point in our lives we have all asked the question What is the purpose of school? Why must I
learn this? . Some say school is simply preparation for employment and for the rest of our lives. I
enjoy school; however, I have always found it to be rather difficult and pointless being in the French
immersion stream and this was due to the lack of help I received from my mother and father unlike
many of my peers whose parents attended university and spoke both English and French fluently.
Everyone faces a variety of challenges and I have always tried my hardest to do my best and
overcome any challenges I face in order to succeed as well as make myself and my parents proud. In
elementary school, I discovered my weakness for French. It was the subject I abhorred; reading,
spelling and grammar were concepts I could not grasp. As a result of my academic struggles, I would
often become frustrated and cry. Perhaps what had stained my academic experience the most was in
sixth grade, our teacher invented a game called Autour du monde A game where we would go around
the class answering grammar questions that were given to us with the objective of improving our
French. I waited in vain for my turn to be over, only then to be made fun of by my teacher and peers
when I couldn t conjugate a verb in passé compose. It was humiliating that my teacher who was
supposed to support and inspire me to do my best, was instead putting me down in front of all my
peers. My parents had

Memoirs of Princess Dashkova
The Memoirs of Princess Dashkova Analysis Eloquent, brilliant, unorthodox, poise, and loyal all of
these unique characteristics allowed Dashkova to gain the highest regard among the members of the
elite society and more importantly, to earn the respect of Catherine the Great. Dashkova is a peculiar
female character. She s fully narcissistic, but at the same time, rejects her recognition and claims
herself as unworthy of the credits Catherine II had given her. In her autobiography The Memoirs of

In Dashkova s memoir, she gave credits to her large role in the plot of overthrowing Peter III;
however, Catherine disagreed. She rebutted that it was her plan of action after the death of the
Empress Elizabeth and the vision of the coup was established long ago. My initial observation of
Dashkova is her ability to be extraordinary despite her difficult upbringing. Her intelligence was
compelling to the Empress Catherine and the men that she had encountered during her traveling.
Dashkova portrayed herself as a strong, versatile woman, who s not only different from most of the
women during the time period, but can also outperform her male counterparts in various tasks (e.g.
surgery, debate, carpenting, etc.) (pg. 144). She surprised the readers at the first moment when she met
Prince Dashkov, a Moscow man. She fell in love with him and got married at the age of 16. The
proposal was informal and emotional unlike the traditional arrangement with its strict regulations. Just
5 years after, Prince Dashkov passed away, leaving Dashkova 2 children and his mountainous
gambling debt. In the most hopeless scenario, Dashkova managed to raise her 2 children and provided
her son a wonderful education while still remaining faithful to the Empress Catherine II. She declared,
My own poverty affected me not at all (pg. 149). Ironically, as a member of the aristocratic class, she
wore nothing but the oldest clothes (pg. 64). According to Dashkova s

Worn Cameras And The Police Department
ody worn Camera in the Police Department
Xing Huang
Overview of the Policy Issue
Recently, using advanced technologies in law enforcement agencies is becoming a current trend,
because the police accountability has been a hot topic among the general public. It s a relatively
difficult choice for some police executives to decide whether to implement the policy of using the
body worn cameras. The main idea to using the advanced technologies in law enforcement agencies is
to help investigate crimes and communicate with the public. Body worn cameras are considered as
one of the most popular solutions proposed to deal with the racial inequalities and inappropriate use of
force among police. At the meantime, using body worn cameras can also help the police department to
avoid the false claims against the police force as well.
However, policy makers should consider the policy related issues, such as privacy and trust issue,
implementation issue and other factors. The privacy and trust issue leads to some key questions about
the nature of the problem of body worn cameras, for example when is appropriate for officer to record,
should notifications given to whom is being recorded, how to ensure the compliance, who has the
access to the records, and how long will the footage be retained. The implementation issue involves
with financial cost, community relationships, and internal department affairs. Even though some states
have already deployed the body worn cameras in the police

Critical Speech In Perils Of Indifference By Elie Wiesel
Romanian born American Jewish writer, professor, political activist, Nobel Laureate, and Holocaust
survivor, Elie Wiesel in his critical speech, Perils of Indifference, maintains the idea that indifference
is inhumane. He supports his claim by using his personal experience in the Holocaust. Additionally, it
states in paragraph 9 that They were dead and did not know it. emphasizes how indifference has made
the Muselmann completely unaware of their fate. Further, it states in paragraph 8 that Indifference can
be tempting... troublesome... and can make our lives meaningless. Wiesel s purpose is to warn the
people that change is needed in order to encourage the people to make a change in the world for the
better so something as tragic and devastating like the Holocaust never happens again. He establishes a
critical tone for readers by using stylistic devices and rhetorical devices such as imagery,
contemplative questions, and word choice in order to achieve his message that indifference is
inhumane. Wiesel s message about the inhumanity of indifference and the importance of resistance is
still relevant today. Unfortunately, although Elie Wiesel and much of the world hoped nothing like the
Holocaust would ever happen again, there have been other cases of genocide later after the Holocaust.
For example, in the year 1991, the The Bosnian War and Srebrenica Genocide took place ( The
Bosnian War ). In 1991, Yugoslavia began to break up along ethnic lines, causing a surge of ethnic
groups trying to seize the power in government ( The Bosnian War ). When the republic of Bosnia and
Herzegovina declared their independence in 1992 the region quickly became the center of the fighting.
In the article The Bosnian War and Srebrenica Genocide the Serbs were a group who rapidly rose to
power by taking up 90 percent of the military, and by also oppressing any other ethnic group that to
them posed a threat to their rights In addition the article The Bosnian War and Srebrenica Genocide it

became known as the Srebrenica genocide, the largest massacre in Europe. Despite, all the mass

The Debate Over Global Warming
Everyone has their own thoughts about global warming, it s not real or it s too late for humans to fix
the issue, the list goes on. The global warming debate would not be so heated if it didn t involve
politics and it just reverted back to simple science. With many people looking to blame someone or
something it s hard for politics and science not to collide. Below i will focus on how politics are
lacking in effort to stop global warming between the huge oil companies having more influence over
the government, to no laws being enforced. Everyday we can read or hear about climate change and
how it s affected our world and us. New solutions are made up everyday but all have a common factor,
they cost big bucks or in the end will cost someone their money. The immense cost and dramatic
changes to our everyday lives like transportation and energy is something you can t change overnight
and needs to be passed by the government before making any serious changes. This is where you ll see
politics get involved. You then you have the other half of people who think it s just mother nature,
because the earth has been known to have climate changes naturally over thousands of years, this is
where science comes in. Some of these people disagree on making any new changes to human life as
we know it. Climate change is not only a touchy subject for most but it is very touchy in what
influences these unnatural or possibly natural changes. As we drive our vehicles to work, joy rides to

My Favorite Vacation Spot
My Favorite Family Vacation Spot
As soon as I got of the plane and breathed in that City air I new my life would change for the better. I
was waiting for this day for the past several months. It was the first time I would go with my father
and brothers on their Boys Only Vacation . I was thrilled at the fact that they would finally let me tag
along with them. This year they decided to go to Washington D.C. I had never been to D.C before, and
what made it even better was the fact that around the time we would arrive it would be snowing. It
was my first time ever seeing snow with my naked eye. So when the time came we headed out to
Tampa International Airport. We checked our bags, went threw security and waiting in line before
entering the aircraft. It was about a 2 hour flight before we arrived in the place that now has my heart
till the day I die. As soon as we stepped out the Airport my eyes were widened by the site of seeing
snow for the first time. The snow felt as if it was made out of a snow cone machine. The sound of my
feet stomping in the snow like stepping on packing peanuts is the sound that I will listen to for hours.
After about a quarter of a mile walk we got to the subway station where for the first time I
experienced how busy big cities can be. We got our cards and headed downstairs to where the subway
trains were. The sound of a jazz musician playing Duke Ellington s Rhapsody in Blue made me want
to give the man all the money in my pocket but sadly I couldn t. There was also the smell of chili
cheese dogs that the people next to us were trying to scarf down before the train arrived. Finally it
arrived and this was my first time on a subway car. The feeling of my butt on the rough cushioned
chairs wasn t the best feeling in the world. The sight on many people from Jamaican to Irish was one
that I haven t seen in such a small compacted space. I could also see the sight of Jefferson Memorial
and the Potomac River as we passed them was breathtaking. We passed a few other sights such as the
Washington Monument, The Lincoln Memorial and the WW2 Memorial. As we walked off the train
we could hear the conductor giving everyone safety instructions and telling them to step away from
the doors.

The Cost Effectiveness Of A Drug Or Treatment
Rising healthcare costs are a growing concern among individuals, employers, and the federal
government. The national conversation on how to best control those costs has forced many drug
manufacturers to reevaluate the economics of new, expensive drugs and therapies. Now more than
ever, the need to evaluate outcomes and costs associated with alternative treatments has never been
greater.
Understanding the cost effectiveness of a drug or treatment can be a challenge. Clinical trials are
traditionally performed on subsets of the population in tightly controlled environments for a relatively
short time. They are primarily responsible for evaluating treatment efficacy. But pressure to control

Chance nodes (circles) depict the possible consequence positive or negative of the decision. They are
referred to as transition states. Transition probabilities are assigned to each transition state and they
must always sum to one. Triangles indicate the point at which the analysis ends and the health impact
and/or costs of each consequence is quantified. When decision tree analysis is done at the same time
as the clinical trial, the payoff may also be expressed as utilities. Utility can be described in numerous
ways. For example, as a percentage of full health. A value of 0.7 corresponds to a person living at 70%
of full health. Another way to express utility is quality adjusted life years (QALY). Expected value of
each therapy is calculated by multiplying the payoff (dollars, percent, QALYS etc.) with the
probability of occurrence for every possible transition state.
While decision trees are simple to comprehend, complicated real world scenarios cannot be
adequately modeled with basic decision tree analysis. The tree cannot model repetitive events or
transitions back and forth between two states. To model repetitive events or transitions backward
would require numerous repetitive transition states. Trying to create a path for every possible scenario
can quickly lead to a complicated, unmanageable decision tree.

A Interview On The And Hearing About A Young Boy
I remember watching the news on may 19th 2013 and hearing about a young boy who passed away
just kilometers outside my house. At age two Geo was killed outside Rics Grill due to an alleged
drunk driver: Richard Suter. I felt the pain and sorrow for the family members and remember hoping
that Mr. Suter be punished for his actions. However, over time I completely forgot what ended up
happening until today. October 20th 2015, I got off the LRT and didn t quite know what to expect
going to the law courts. I have seen TV shows such as The Good Wife and Suits and thought that
maybe the courthouse would resemble similarities. However as I walked through the security and
made my way up to the courtroom I realized that my experience was going to be completely different.
My aunt who works at the courthouse had informed me earlier that morning that in courtroom 445 at
10am there was going to be victim impact statements for the case regarding Mr. Suter actions. As I
walked to the courtroom, I started to remember the news regarding this case and thought about
something that we had learned in class, which was the due process of our judicial system. I had just
assumed that this case was closed and justice has been served, but this was not the case. The
courtroom was much smaller than I had imagined, however it was completely full. People were
standing and the mood was very sombre because of the case. At first I was unsure whether this was a
criminal matter or the

Revenge In Hamlet And Othello
Across his many works, William Shakespeare commonly uses revenge not only as a motive for
individuals but as a driving force for the entire plot. This appears in both Hamlet, in which the hero
seeks revenge for the murder of his father, and Othello, in which the villain seeks revenge for the
promotion of the less qualified Michael Cassio. Though Shakespeare portrays these characters
conversely, their ends and means mirror each other. Readers can draw parallels between Prince
Hamlet and Iago: they both have a desire for revenge, a meticulous methodology, and the intellect
needed to tie together their plans. Using their intellect, both Prince Hamlet and Iago form elaborate
plans, manipulate those around them, and, after much suffering, achieve their goals. At the discovery
of his father s murder, Hamlet quickly springs into planning how to revenge [King Hamlet s] ... most
unnatural murder and builds his plan around the opportunities presented by the arrival of Rosencrantz
and Guildenstern, the play put on by the acting troupe, and young Fortinbras desire to cross Denmark
s borders (I.v.25). As Eric Levy, an emeritus professor at University of British Columbia, writes, the
mental awareness that Hamlet possesses eventually exceeds his own unaided cognitive powers,
causing the spiral of madness that ultimately brings the play to its violent end (9). Before this madness
overtakes him, however, Hamlet devises the plan to verify Claudius guilt and prepare the perfect

Essay On Starve Or Kill A Lifeboat
To Starve or Kill in a Lifeboat Webster s dictionary defines utilitarianism as a doctrine that the useful
is the good and that the determining consideration of right conduct should be the usefulness of its
consequences (Merriam Webster). This doctrine is used in cases when trying to decide whether an
issue is morally acceptable or not. In the case of the sailors stranded in a lifeboat at sea, the question
raised is whether or not the men were morally corrupt by killing the cabin boy. There are two basic
approaches used to determine the outcome of this case. The first has to do with deciding if the benefits
of killing a person outweigh the costs (Sandel 32). The second approach says that consequences are
not the only factor to consider because some moral duties and rights are more important (Sandel 33).
Suppose you were the judge, assume that you were asked to decide whether killing the cabin boy was
morally permissible, how would you rule (Sandel 32)? Four English sailors became stranded at sea
and were stuck in a lifeboat for 24 days. The youngest of the four, named Parker, was only seventeen.
He was an orphan who had become a cabin boy. He became ill when he drank seawater and began to
show signs of death (Sandel 31). On the twentieth day one of the men decided that the cabin boy had
to be killed. They ate his body and blood until a rescue boat arrived days later. The men were arrested
and charged with murder. The conflict arouse when the decision had

A kingdom is in turmoil as the old King Roland dies and its worthy successor, Prince Peter, must do

The sequence of events that occur in the plot go like this: Two sons are born from Queen Sasha and

He was also a pawn in Flagg s plan to destroy the kingdom of Delain. Secondly, Thomas had a terrible
secret that would ultimately be a part of the downfall of Flagg. On the evening Flagg offered the
poisoned glass of wine to Roland, Thomas was there to witness the murder of his father.
There are many themes in the story of The Eyes of the Dragon. One of them is courage; another is
love for one s family. But the one that struck me as the most fascinating and also the most reoccurring
is the theme Good always triumphs over Evil or Good vs. Evil. The devious and evil Flagg was a
baneful monster who had the downfall and corruption of the kingdom of Delain since the day of Allen
II, one of the very early rulers of Delain. He would serve as the ruler s advisor. The birth of Peter
marked the end of his reign. As fate would have it, a small miscalculation in Flagg s careful planning
would be his undoing.
The story is named The Eyes of the Dragon because Thomas s secret. Flagg once showed the young
prince a secret corridor. At the end of this passage was a wall with two small transparent slits. The slits
were the eyes of the dragon, Niner, which was displayed as a prized trophy head in one of the king s

The Third Floor Of An Old House
Kellie and Gregg had been living on the third floor of an old house in Shanghai. Before moving in
Kellie had expectations of becoming close friends with the multiple neighbors who lived on the floors
below. Once moved in, she realized that the neighbors did not have the same optimism and would not
even say hello.
Kellie did not give up on her quest to make friends with her neighbors and eventually made a little
progress with a couple of them. After a few months, upon returning from vacation, one of the mom s
from second floor helped her carry her bags upstairs. Wanting to thank the mom for her help, she took
them a plate of brownies. After hastily placing one on grandpa s plate, she remembered that the
Chinese were not big on sweets.
One evening, Gregg told Kellie that he saw the neighbors crying. Kellie decided to call the cleaning
lady that she was sure would know why they were crying. The cleaning lady told her, The old man isn
t there anymore. Not really knowing her neighbors, or which room they actually lived in, she assumed
it was an old man to whom she had given the brownie.
Since they had exchanged some pleasantries, Kellie decided that it would be a proper gesture to take
the family some flowers. Innocently she chose some red roses. Upon delivering the flowers she was
embarrassed to learn that white was the color for death in the Chinese culture. Despite her error in
color, the family kept insisting that she come to the funeral. From what she knew of the

Defected Peripheral Nervous System Essay
The injuries of nervous system affect many people every year and is estimated that spinal cord injuries
alone affect 10,000 each year. Nerve regeneration can be achieved by production of new neurons, glia,
axons, myelin, or synapses. There are differences between the functional mechanisms of peripheral
nervous system (PNS) and the central nervous system (CNS). PNS has an intrinsic ability for repair
and regeneration while CNS usually is incapable of self repair and regeneration. There is currently no
treatment for recovering human nerve function after injury to the CNS. Although, PNS has self
regeneration capacity, much research still needs to be performed for optimizing the environment for
maximum regrowth. Injury to PNS immediately elicits the migration of phagocytes, Schwann cells,
and macrophages to the lesion site in order to clear away debris such as damaged tissue [56 60]. ...

Generally, two surface molecules including complement receptor type 3 (CR3) and galactose specific
lectin MAC 2 are involved in Wallerian degeneration process and consequently the peripheral nerve

inhibitory influences of the glial and extracellular environment. The environment within the CNS,
especially following trauma, counteracts the repair of myelin and neurons. Growth factors are not

Creating an Environmental Ethic Essay
Creating an Environmental Ethic
Traditionally, Western views of environment ethics has been unclear and for the most part
unnecessary. We used earth s resources without thinking about consequence. This nonchalant use
aided in the West s ability to influence the world through technological advances. In the past, limited
travel and slow communication systems had limited our view to a local one. If pollution or to much
urbanization occurred the solution was to move. Industrialization has changed things. With science
advancing so quickly, the population exploding, and our environment actually being truly affected on
a global scale. Within our lifetime, we can see changes in the environment. No longer do we have wild

Everything in nature lives in a symbiosis so complicated that we cannot disassociate a living thing
from its habitat. Humans have the ability to alter their surroundings and disrupt the balance of nature
to a point where an equilibrium may never be reached. So in the definition of nature, human element
have no part of it. We will assume that we act as an outside force onto a habitat.
Nature is intrinsically good Although our actions towards the environment, especially within the past
150 year, may not have been favorable, nevertheless the historical and global attitudes toward nature
has always been one of reverence. The proof of this reverence can be seen through religion. It can also
be inferred from our interests in science and the fact throughout history there have always been
advocates for the preservation of nature. These notions are not limited to a section of the world, but
have independent roots in many cultures and societies world wide. One place to start are in cosmology
sagas. Many of them have a common thread of being highly naturalistic and emphasizing the miracle
of all life. The Enuma Elish, an ancient tale from Mesopotamia, describes the forming of the world
from pure water. These people s most revered gods and goddesses were ones of land and abundance.

Tough College Professors
We all have professors, the one that gives us a C average after busting our brain to write a five page

understanding it is important. A world renowned professor at my college offers a class that all other

Tough college professors help us to improve and understand clearly what we learn. It s not all about

American family watching TV, 1958 The first time images were transmitted electrically were via early
mechanical fax machines, including the pan telegraph, developed in the late 1800s. The concept of
electrically powered transmission of television images in motion was first sketched in 1878 as the

science fiction authors, that someday that light could be transmitted over wires, as sounds were. The
idea of using scanning to transmit images was put to actual practical use in 1881 in the pan telegraph,
through the use of a pendulum based scanning mechanism. From this period forward, scanning in one

Why Video Games Have Made A Shift Into Mainstream Pop Culture
The term pop culture can be defined as The culture of the people a culture that flourishes through
social interaction and mass media that is most actively involved in by the public. Pop culture can
cover a wide range of materials and as such should be looked at as a topic open to discussion,
interpretation as to why it is popular and what makes it popular. Since pop culture includes an
expansive spectrum of subjects I am going to be focusing on one of those and that is Video games. In
this essay I will be exploring the ideas and theories of why I believe video games have made a shift
into mainstream pop culture.

Before I start discussing video games I would like to explore the ideas of how cultures emerge and
how this eventually relates to my study. Lehman, D. R., Chiu, C. Y., Schaller, M. (2004) in Annual

cognitions shared by individuals within some definable population that are distinct from those shared
within other populations These beliefs and behaviour whatever they may be in any culture can give us
a backing for realising individual or group goals that can often be categorised in a variety of formal or
informal ways. For example we could look at the eSports international events of League of legends as
a formal organization of a culture in effect, we have official merchandise, promotions, advertising, a

Stock options and warrants give the holder the right to purchase a share of stock at a predetermined
price within a given time period. According to Richard G Schroeder in the textbook Financial
Accounting Theory and Analysis: Text and Cases, under current GAAP the cash inflow received from
these securities needs to be reported as equity. The value reported in subsequent periods is historical
and does not change in response to changes in the market value of these securities.
SFAC No. 6 defines equity as the residual interest in the assets of an entity that remains after

The Effect Of Stretching On Muscle Strength And Performance
Increased muscle strength and performance is sought after by athletes of almost every discipline, as
well as others simply looking to increases their health and fitness. Stretch and flexibility is another
area of fitness, one that is often neglected by most people. However, the effect of stretching on both
muscle strength and performance is disputed by the relatively few studies that have actually been done
on the topic. The results of the studies have ranged from concluding that stretching has a negative
effect on strength on performance to concluding that it has no effect to even concluding that it can
have a positive effect. Many factors play a role in muscle strength and performance so it is difficult to
conclusively determine what is due to stretching and what is due to one of the other variable that come
into play when exercising and training. Knowing the effect of stretching on muscle strength and
performance would allow athletes and their trainers to develop more efficient and productive training
plans to help the athletes achieve a higher level of performance.
Most people are under the impression that stretching lengthens muscles and that an increase in
flexibility is due to an increase in the length of the muscle itself. This is not accurate. Flexibility is not
achieved by having long muscles, but rather having to do with the length tension relationship of the
muscle (Magnusson 1998). There are several different theories for how stretching increases flexibility

Helping the local library in the summer reading program is an effective way to give back to the
community. The most satisfying part of the reading program was when children came to report on
books they read. We used the computers to fill out the information, give prizes, and stamps. We often
ask about the books they read to hear the children explain and report on the book and if they enjoyed
reading the book. The most challenging part of the reading program is when several children came at
once. Since there are only two volunteers helping during each time when several children come in at
once it can be difficult to help each child like we would like. The reading program is over in the
middle of August, I expect to continue participating until the end of the program. Volunteering for the

passion for teaching. Some other ways people can educate and raise awareness of reading in the

Ivory Is it worth it?
Everyday elephants and rhinos are being poached in order to get their tusks and horns. These tusks
and horns are made of ivory which is sold for very large sums. Many things are being done to stop
poaching but elephants and rhinos are still being poached.
People in Asia mainly China are the main buyers of ivory from illegally poached rhinos and elephants.
The ivory business is a multi million dollar business. They buy elephant tusks for $1,500 per pound.
Rhino horns are $45,000 per pound, or $6,000 for 100 grams. Many things are trying to be done but
there is still illegal ivory trading. There is a near total ban on ivory in the US. The Chinese
government has become stricter so people trade in Vietnam and Laos where there is a less strict
government. The main buyers of ivory are in Asia but people don t want to change their ways so many
people still participate in the business of ivory trading.
Elephants and rhinos are disappearing at an alarming rate due to illegal poaching. Many elephants are
being killed everyday and they could soon be extinct. Tanzania s elephant population decreased by
two thirds and Mozambique s fell by 40%. Elephants have dropped in population from more than 10

There are few ancient structures in the world that captivate the imagination and the critical mind of

The oldest part of Stonehenge, called Stonehenge I (constructed ca. 3100 BCE), consists of little more

In 1963, British astronomer Gerald Hawkins published an article in Nature, followed by a book,

Difficulties with working memory are often seen as an inability to stay on task and following multi stepped instructions as it becomes challenging to manipulate information in the brain. In addition to this, Tom is also displaying further memory difficulties with the damage to his left temporal lobe being the most probable cause. The left temporal lobe is believed to play an import role in long term memory as well as the location of the Wernicke s area that holds the storage of the semantics of language. This area may have received damage to as Tom is showing difficulty with understanding language, yet another difficulty that will need to be considered throughout his rehabilitation. Specifically the medial temporal lobe, and hippocampal region are known to play a role in the formation of new semantic knowledge. Therefore if Tom received severe damage to ... Soltes (2011) discusses Cassatt s, Woman and Child before a Washstand and Bowl (1889) and describes the tones of a delicate palate characteristic of Impressionist painting. He notes her brushwork is tighter than typical Impressionism and is similar to that of Degas, assuming their close relationship affected her artistic style as a painter. Her subject matter echoes the continuity of the Madonna and Christ child yet in a modern humanized version of an actual mother and child. Soltes (2011) regards Cassatt as: an important link between America and Europe because she is a consummate painter in the Impressionist mode of her own particularized style; but because she was well off enough to purchase Impressionist works and bring them back to the United States, which helped further tighten the link between American appreciation of Impressionism and the Impressionism being produced in France and in Europe in general (L35, 22:28). In the novel, when Rukmani and kenny are talking about how their cultural ways are different, Rukmani says If you lived here your whole life [this] still would not be [your country] (Markandaya 107). Even though Kenny has helped Rukmani and her daughter countless times throughout the novel, the tone that she uses in this sentence shows us that she never thought of kenny as one of them. Rukmani s use of the phrase your whole life emphasizes the point that she is trying to make which is that no matter how long you stay here and how much you help us, this will never be your country and you will never be one of us. The therapist must understand the client s thoughts, the ideas, experiences, and feelings, when communicating back this empathic understanding (Murdock, 2009). Therapists who conduct sessions with this sincerity in mind have all their feelings available to them in therapy sessions and may share significant emotional reactions with their clients. America no longer holds executions in the street, no longer condones segregation, and even gives animals the right to not be mistreated. Most parents do not see the injustice that they are imposing upon their children, or the negative influence they are portraying. The continuing pattern of injustice is seen in the opposition. The opposing side argues the fact that they were spanked as children and this action has done no long term damage to them. The damage they are looking for is unseen. It is in the way they function as a parent, spouse, co worker, and even affects their sub conscious thinking. The fact that these people were subjected to spanking as children is the reason they have justified their argument for hitting their children. It creates a pattern and increases the likelihood the children in these situations will continue that pattern (AAP 725). Most parents do not know how to stop the cycle. Some say school is simply preparation for employment and for the rest of our lives. I enjoy school; however, I have always found it to be rather difficult and pointless being in the French immersion stream and this was due to the lack of help I received from my mother and father unlike many of my peers whose parents attended university and spoke both English and French fluently. Everyone faces a variety of challenges and I have always tried my hardest to do my best and overcome any challenges I face in order to succeed as well as make myself and my parents proud. In elementary school, I discovered my weakness for French. It was the subject I abhorred; reading, spelling and grammar were concepts I could not grasp. As a result of my academic struggles, I would often become frustrated and cry. Perhaps what had stained my academic experience the most was in sixth grade, our teacher invented a game called Autour du monde A game where we would go around the class answering grammar questions that were given to us with the objective of improving our French. I waited in vain for my turn to be over, only then to be made fun of by my teacher and peers when I couldn t conjugate a verb in passé compose. It s a relatively difficult choice for some police executives to decide whether to implement the policy of using the body worn cameras. He supports his claim by using his personal experience in the Holocaust. Additionally, it states in paragraph 9 that They were dead and did not know it. emphasizes how indifference has made the Muselmann completely unaware of their fate. Further, it states in paragraph 8 that Indifference can be tempting... troublesome... and can make our lives meaningless. Wiesel s purpose is to warn the people that change is needed in order to encourage the people to make a change in the world for the better so something as tragic and devastating like the Holocaust never happens again. He establishes a critical tone for readers by using stylistic devices and rhetorical devices such as imagery, contemplative questions, and word choice in order to achieve his message that indifference is inhumane. Wiesel s message about the inhumanity of indifference and the importance of resistance is still relevant today. Unfortunately, although Elie Wiesel and much of the world hoped nothing like the Holocaust would ever happen again, there have been other cases of genocide later after the Holocaust. For example, in the year 1991, the The Bosnian War and Srebrenica Genocide took place ( The Bosnian War ). Transition probabilities are assigned to each transition state and they must always sum to one. Triangles indicate the point at which the analysis ends and the health impact and/or costs of each consequence is quantified. When decision tree analysis is done at the same time as the clinical trial, the payoff may also be expressed as utilities. Utility can be described in numerous ways. For example, as a percentage of full health. A value of 0.7 corresponds to a person living at 70% of full health. Another way to express utility is quality adjusted life years (QALY). Expected value of each therapy is calculated by multiplying the payoff (dollars, percent, QALYS etc.) with the probability of occurrence for every possible transition state. While decision trees are simple to comprehend, complicated real world scenarios cannot be adequately modeled with basic decision tree analysis. The tree cannot model repetitive events or transitions back and forth between two states. To model repetitive events or transitions backward would require numerous repetitive transition states. Essay On Starve Or Kill A Lifeboat To Starve or Kill in a Lifeboat Webster s dictionary defines utilitarianism as a doctrine that the useful is the good and that the determining consideration of right conduct should be the usefulness of its consequences (Merriam Webster). This doctrine is used in cases when trying to decide whether an issue is morally acceptable or not. In the case of the sailors stranded in a lifeboat at sea, the question raised is whether or not the men were morally corrupt by killing the cabin boy. There are two basic approaches used to determine the outcome of this case. The first has to do with deciding if the benefits of killing a person outweigh the costs (Sandel 32). The second approach says that consequences are not the only factor to consider because some moral duties and rights are more important (Sandel 33). Suppose you were the judge, assume that you were asked to decide whether killing the cabin boy was morally permissible, how would you rule (Sandel 32)? Four English sailors became stranded at sea and were stuck in a lifeboat for 24 days. The youngest of the four, named Parker, was only seventeen. He was an orphan who had become a cabin boy. He became ill when he drank seawater and began to show signs of death (Sandel 31). On the twentieth day one of the men decided that the cabin boy had to be killed. Once moved in, she realized that the neighbors did not have the same optimism and would not even say hello. Kellie did not give up on her quest to make friends with her neighbors and eventually made a little progress with a couple of them. After a few months, upon returning from vacation, one of the mom s from second floor helped her carry her bags upstairs. Wanting to thank the mom for her help, she took them a plate of brownies. After hastily placing one on grandpa s plate, she remembered that the Chinese were not big on sweets. One evening, Gregg told Kellie that he saw the neighbors crying. Kellie decided to call the cleaning lady that she was sure would know why they were crying. The cleaning lady told her, The old man isn t there anymore. Not really knowing her neighbors, or which room they actually lived in, she assumed it was an old man to whom she had given the brownie. Since they had exchanged some pleasantries, Kellie decided that it would be a proper gesture to take the family some flowers. Innocently she chose some red roses. Upon delivering the flowers she was embarrassed to learn that white was the color for death in the Chinese culture. Despite her error in color, the family kept insisting that she come to the funeral. • 27. Defected Peripheral Nervous System Essay The injuries of nervous system affect many people every year and is estimated that spinal cord injuries alone affect 10,000 each year. Nerve regeneration can be achieved by production of new neurons, glia, axons, myelin, or synapses. There are differences between the functional mechanisms of peripheral nervous system (PNS) and the central nervous system (CNS). PNS has an intrinsic ability for repair and regeneration while CNS usually is incapable of self repair and regeneration. There is currently no treatment for recovering human nerve function after injury to the CNS. Although, PNS has self regeneration capacity, much research still needs to be performed for optimizing the environment for maximum regrowth. Injury to PNS immediately elicits the migration of phagocytes, Schwann cells, and macrophages to the lesion site in order to clear away debris such as damaged tissue [56 60]. ... Generally, two surface molecules including complement receptor type 3 (CR3) and galactose specific lectin MAC 2 are involved in Wallerian degeneration process and consequently the peripheral nerve regeneration. However, injury to CNS is not followed by extensive regeneration. It is limited by the inhibitory influences of the glial and extracellular environment. The environment within the CNS, especially following trauma, counteracts the repair of myelin and neurons. Growth factors are not expressed or re expressed; for instance, the extracellular matrix is free of laminin, so glial scars rapidly form and produce factors that inhibit re myelination and axon repair. The axons themselves also lose the potential for growth with age due to a decrease in the expression of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nature is intrinsically good Although our actions towards the environment, especially within the past 150 year, may not have been favorable, nevertheless the historical and global attitudes toward nature has always been one of reverence. The proof of this reverence can be seen through religion. The Effect Of Stretching On Muscle Strength And Performance Increased muscle strength and performance is sought after by athletes of almost every discipline, as well as others simply looking to increases their health and fitness. Stretch and flexibility is another area of fitness, one that is often neglected by most people. However, the effect of stretching on both muscle strength and performance is disputed by the relatively few studies that have actually been done on the topic. The results of the studies have ranged from concluding that stretching has a negative effect on strength on performance to concluding that it has no effect to even concluding that it can have a positive effect. Many factors play a role in muscle strength and performance so it is difficult to conclusively determine what is due to stretching and what is due to one of the other variable that come into play when exercising and training. Knowing the effect of stretching on muscle strength and performance would allow athletes and their trainers to develop more efficient and productive training plans to help the athletes achieve a higher level of performance. Most people are under the impression that stretching lengthens muscles and that an increase in flexibility is due to an increase in the length of the muscle itself. This is not accurate. Flexibility is not achieved by having long muscles, but rather having to do with the length tension relationship of the muscle (Magnusson 1998). Therefore, I shall proceed to discuss both the fantastical and probable theories behind the mystery of Stonehenge. In 1963, British astronomer Gerald Hawkins published an article in Nature, followed by a book, Stonehenge Decoded, and proposed a hypothesis for at least one purpose of this ancient monument. Standing in the center of Stonehenge, Hawkins recognized twenty four lines of sight amongst the stones, and later discovered that these lines pointed to significant astronomical events. The most famous of these are the alignments that point to the spot on the horizon on which the sun rises on the summer and winter solstices; but there were many lines pointing to the rising and setting of the full moon near to those dates as well. Hawkins discovered that Stonehenge was not only a religious site, but also an astronomical observatory and calendar.
