The Aeneid Vs Odyssey
Before comparing the actual stories of The Aeneid and The Iliad, one must consider the remarkable
success that the two respective stories have received since their origins in ancient Greece and Rome.
Homer, author of The Iliad and its famous counterpart The Odyssey, is a legendary figure in history.
Some question his actual existence and prefer to regard his two most famous works as stories of oral
tradition that were constructed and refined with thousands of retellings by numerous poets over time.
Others see Homer as a real man who entertained guests with his witty, complex stories and later had
scribes write down his famous words. It will be assumed throughout this paper that Homer did exist
for the sake of simplicity. On the other hand, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite the major differences between the overall plot of the two books, the final battle scenes are
remarkably similar. As with anything, there is always a precursor to the end that informs the audience
of the impending crisis that the protagonist will have to face. For the Iliad and the Aeneid, this
precursor comes in the form of a shield given by divine powers. Both Achilles and Aeneas were in
desperate need of a new shield that would not only offer protection against the strongest spear
throwers but also provoke intimidation and wonder. Achilles had given his previous shield to Patrocles
and subsequently lost it to looting due to Patrocles s tragic death. Aeneas, meanwhile, was at the tail
end of an epic journey across much of the ancient world. His people had lost almost everything in the
sacking of Troy and although he had weapons they were not powerful enough and not worthy enough
for the leader of the quest. Both receive shields from divine sponsers. Achilles entreats his mother for
help and she convinces the blacksmith Hephaestus to craft a shield which he makes ...large and strong,
adorning it with beautiful designs all over (Iliad 225). The shield depicts all of creation with the sun,
moon, and stars in the middle and complex designs of humans and cattle ringing the outside layers. In
the Aeneid, Athena begs

T-Mobile 1 Commercial Analysis
In the T Mobile 1 commercial it starts out with a middle aged man and Kristen Schaal. The
commercial was inspired off of the movie 50 Shades of Grey or the movie 50 Shades Darker, which
was made after the initial movie, 50 Shades of Grey. The two individuals enter the playroom where
numerous objects are seen hung all over the room. Schaal was being blindfolded as she walked into
the room. As the man starts to unravel the blindfold Schaal gasps in such astonishment of the room.
Later on the man starts stating the specific elements Verizon has to offer. The more data the mobile
user uses, the more punishments they will receive. Schaal was thrilled acknowledging this
information. The man later whips his whip and describes if mobile users are into things ... Show more

It is logical for people wanting to save money on their phone bill. If the mobile user goes over the
limited amount then the cost will start to accumulate. Every time you go over your data limit you get
punished. Nobody would want to pay outrageous rate and fees. The gasps, excitement, and the thrills
is what created the pathos. Schaal was astonished by all the facts he was saying because she was into
that type of pain. T Mobile 1 argues that they are a more reliable company with less punishing fees
thus creating ethos. Symbolism is seen in this also. The red Verizon phone screen seen dangling from
the stand represents data being overly used causing the phone bill to inflate. The whip also acts as a
form of symbolism representing the punishment. Another literary term that was involved during this
commercial is parody. In general the T Mobile 1 commercial imitates the movie 50 Shades of Grey.
Irony could also be included during this commercial because the mobile plan can sometimes cause
people to be indecisive on whether they want to feel the pain or not. In the commercial it said Wireless
pain is fine if you re into that sort of

The Physics of Archery Essay
The Physics of Archery
There are not many activities out there that relax and soothe me quite like shooting my bow. It is not
as simple as it sounds though, just pulling on the string, releasing the string, and watching the arrow
fly towards your target. There are a number of aspects that must be taken into consideration when
trying to shoot a bow and arrow efficiently, this is where we will get into the physics of archery.
There are two main things to consider when looking at archery and the physics concepts behind it.
First there is the bow, which basically is a device that uses human force over a distance and converts
that into stored Mechanical Potential Energy. The second factor involves that stored Mechanical
Energy being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The materials that construct the Recurve bow must be taken into consideration when looking at the
force applied from the bow. The most popular material for traditional archers today would have to be a
certain type of wood from the yew tree. The reason for this particular choice of wood is that it contains
the highest elastic energy storage per unit mass for any type of wood, which is around 700 Jkg 1.
Which is very close to having the same rating as spring steel. However with technology these days
more people are leaning towards a type of carbon fiberglass laminate. This particular combination
brings both a lighter weight than wood and a higher elasticity rating. The reason some wood bows are
still around is due to the fact the old timer traditional type archers shun using any kind of technology
or advancements to aid them in shooting their bows. The material of the strings also needs to be taken
into consideration, this is so because the string mass needs to be kept as low as possible for obvious
reasons with efficiency and speed of the bow.
Another thing to be looked at would be the Draw Weight or Draw Force of the bow, which basically is
how much weight or force is

Veterans Deserve a Second Chance Back Home in the USA
America is the land of opportunity and the land of second chances. People come to America to live a
better life, but it s not all it s cracked up to be. When Veterans come back home, all they want is a
second chance at life again. They want to come back and be able to start from where they left off. But
the government has done very little to help these veterans. The government believes they have done
enough with the programs they have created, but it hasn t had much of a change. The purpose of this
essay is to discuss my opinion and what I know about this issue, to benefit The U.S. Department of
Veterans Affairs, who are my intended audience. If the government were to put a lot of effort, like they
do for pointless issues, there wouldn t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So if there are worries before war, there definitely has to be problems post war. When veterans return,
they expect things to go back to normal, but they are definitely different. Veteran families have post
war problems just like the veterans. If the veteran has trouble reintegrating into civil life, that affects
their everyday mood and their ability to support their family. These families worry about their loved
one falling into depression, having anxiety, and committing suicide. In the article Home from War by
Lizette Alvarez, she talks with Anthony Klecker who states that I was trying to be the tough marine I
was trained to be not to talk about problems, not to cry.... I imprisoned myself in my own mind. This is
a big contributor to the suffering that families go through, because they don t know what their family
member is thinking. They have no idea what to do to be able to help because these veterans want to
keep everything bottled up. There are also cases where the children end up developing the same
mental illnesses because of what they see. Everything that children see affects them a lot, changing
their future probably for the worst. The one solution these families want is for more help from the
government, even though they already help. They just want to help these veterans move on from the
war lifestyle.
A big problem that affects veterans the most is the thought of how they are going to make a living.
When they come back from war,

This phenomenal change in the international environment in which business is conducted has resulted
in increased levels of foreign direct investment by companies from developed countries in lesser
developed economies such as the Third World as economic benefits were sought through the
globalization of production as well as markets. (Hill 2011, p.5)
With the benefits being widely seen to outweigh the disadvantages smaller companies are looking for
the arrangements internationally that would best serve their interests of growth and expansion with
companies from lesser developed countries now also looking to capitalize as well by creating
synergies at the basic level by expanding their market horizons overseas, penetrating first and
expanding as demand and relationships develop. This shift in the world economy towards greater
integration and interdependence is one way of describing Globalization (Hill 2011, p.7).
Globalization can be seen as the increase of functional integration between internationally dispersed
economic activities, which is quite recent, as opposed to the older phenomenon of Internationalization

Symbolism and Allusion in Maya Angelou s My Arkansas Essay
Symbolism and Allusion in Maya Angelou s My Arkansas
There is a deep brooding/ in Arkansas. Arkansas is stuck in the past, its memories of hatred and crime
from ante bellum days hindering the progression towards Civil Rights. Maya Angelou s poem of the
struggle to a new wave of equality uses both general symbolism and historical allusion to make its
theme clear to the reader. The poem uses general symbolism in nature, in time, and historical allusion
to make the theme clear in a concise but vibrant poem.
The general symbolism relating to nature assumes a common base of knowledge from which
symbolism can be built. The poem opens with a description ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Secondly, the red earth can be associated with the desert, a place where no vegetation can grow. The
red earth, whether stained with the blood of the past or a place where life cannot be sustained,
continues to paint the picture of an unending struggle toward the future for the new and growing
poplar tree.
The theme of new beginnings and the harness of the past in another natural setting is discussed again
in the second stanza, but now with a focus on time. The visual image presented my the passage as the
sun hesitating and losing its direction show allow the reader to observe the symbolism of the sun. The
sun universally represents time, the rise and set of sun symbolizing the beginning and ending of each
day, days leading into months, years, and lifetimes. The rise of the sun is a new beginning, but it
seems to hesitate, and lose its/ incandescent aim. The new beginning brought on by the rising of the
sun was held back and lost in that second. Hope and the fresh start were halted by the sun, who was
not ready to let time pass and continue. The passage concludes with an affirmation of the symbolism,
that the past is brighter yet than the sun who could not pull the new start cleanly into the future.
The poem is put into a clear context at the end by way of historical allusion. The phrase ante bellum is

The Role Of Queen Elizabeth I And Queen Elizabeth I
Great Monarchs Side by Side The British empire has seen a grand total of 66 monarchs, all varying in
historical importance. Queen Elizabeth I and Queen Victoria are two great monarchs still remembered
today. Both women were influential figures who coined their own eras. Queen Elizabeth I influenced
the Golden Age, bringing learned arts and education into popularity. The Victorian era became known
as an age of great wealth and expansion for the British Empire which is attributed to Queen Victoria s
reign. What made these seemingly ordinary women become some of the greatest monarchs in British

The Golden age, for which she is credited with influencing, encouraged arts and education. Many
playwrights such as Shakespeare and Christopher Marlowe gained popularity during this time
(Biography editors). New schools began to open, creating a larger opportunity for literacy. Because of
her childhood education, she encouraged education and arts which influenced the future of Britain.
Similarly, Queen Victoria also had a hard childhood that would influence her reign as Britain s
monarch. With her father passing away when she was eight months old, Victoria was left with only
one parental figure her mother, Princess Marie Luise Victoria of Saxe Coburg. From the beginning
Victoria s mother dictated her life. Marie hoped to become regent if Victoria s Uncle s both died
before her 18th birthday. To achieve this, Marie devised the Kensington system, in which every aspect
of Victoria s life would be monitored in order to make Victoria dependent upon her mother ( Queen
Victoria ). Although this had the opposite effect, creating a fierce independent spirit in Victoria. Upon
her early ascension to the throne, at only 18, Victoria distanced herself from her mother. At times,
Victoria refused to see her mother ( Queen Victoria ). Victoria s strong will played an important part in
her rule. She was able to make decisions for herself, not limiting herself to her mother s opinions,
creating a strong ruling monarch Although these

What Does The Cat In The Sky Mean
In THE GOLDEN CAT, Gabriel King continues the enchanting quest that began with The Wild Road
the novel the San Francisco Chronicle crowned mythical, and Richard Adams, author of Watership
Down, deemed absolutely magical. . .
The ancient prophecy speaks of a golden cat whose coming will heal the troubled world. But the
Queen of Cats has three golden kittens and when two are stolen away, the distraught parents turn to
Tag, the brave young cat who is the protector of the magical Wild Road.
The desperate search moves from the water lit Oceanarium and sun dappled Tintagel to the distant
Louisiana bayous and the pyramids of Egypt. As Tag and his friends struggle on, so does a terrifying,
unearthly force a preternatural vortex threatening the Wild Road, tearing at the very fabric of
existence. But Tag is disastrously unprepared for the powerful darkness that threatens to consume
everything in its walk.

similarity between the two is that of their changing. The moon changes shape throughout its phases

different in so many ways, they are still close kindred and can change with each other. The changes in
the cat s eyes could be its eyes dilating, or could be the reflections of the moon in its eyes, seeming to

Capital Punishment And Deterrence In The Criminal Justice...
Imagine being sentenced to death by your government; the institution that is supposed to protect your
rights, and then waiting years for the killing blow to land. Imagine the constant fear and anxiety you
would endure; nobody deserves that torment. The death penalty is still legal in many parts of America
and dozens of people are killed every year. In Canada, the death penalty has been abolished since 1976
and there is little support for reinstatement. This is not the case in America, while many states have
stopped using capital punishment there are still thirty one that continue to follow the practice. These

Capital punishment is not a fair or equal penalty, depending on who you are or where you live will
dramatically affect the outcome of a sentence. First, race is a huge factor and capital punishment is
fraught with racism. A 1998 study found that African Americans were 38% more likely to receive the
death penalty in Philadelphia than other races. (Rust Tierney) Not only are African Americans more
likely to receive the death penalty but 83% of cases that do receive it involve white victims. This is
true despite the fact that only 50% of murder victims are white. (Rust Tierney) These statistics do not
indicate a fair and unbiased system, people are equipped with their own prejudices and consciously or
not these leanings have created a disparity in the justice structure. The system is also biased against
the poor. Individuals with little to no wealth can not access the high cost, well equipped representation
the rich can. Over 99% of people sentenced to capital punishment are indigent and are often poorly
represented. There is a plethora of other issues that arise with the death penalty, the sentencing is
inconsistent, dependent on the prosecutors and judges in the specific case, and the mentally ill are
condemned despite laws implemented to prevent this. This leads to the next point, errors. The most

The Golden Age of Greece The golden age of Greece, especially the Periclean age of Athens, was
considered to be the defining age of Greek history. The amount of cultural and intellectual innovation
in Greece was at its height during the nearly 200 year period. From 500 300 BC, many great thinkers
and philosophers rose and gave many a new perspective on life.
As Matt Barrett explained, many philosopers, such as Socrates, dwelled in Athens, along with his then
pupil, Plato. Socrates was one of the first of the philosophers to believe that life was not for collecting
material possesions, or riches, but that it was for knowing oneself and the world around oneself.
Socrates was later executed and forced to drink Hemlock for corrupting the youth of the city. Plato,
Socrates pupil, was considered an idealist. Furthermore, according to Barrett, it is said that all
philosophy is but a footnote to Plato. (Barrett)
After the end of the Persian Wars, Athens began a nearly 50 year period of prosperity under Pericles,
known as the Age of Pericles. During this time the Parthenon was built, and Athens became the
cultural, intellectual, and the artistic center of the Greek world. Throughout this time period, Athens
attracted a number of intellectuals and philosophers, which brought about a cultural and intellectual
high point in Greek history. (Barrett)

Main users of financial Statements
Users of financial statements are same as stakeholders. Stakeholders can be defined as people who

Investors, Lenders, Suppliers and other trade creditors, Employees, Customers, Governments and their
agencies and The public. According to the financial statement, they can get useful information.
Investors are people who invest money in companies in order to make the profit or get advantages.
They need to know whether it has the risk to invest in this business or company, they need to consider
about does this company have an internal financial problem? Also, they need to know how much they
can get after they invested in this company.
Lenders are people who lend money or something to someone or a company. For example, Bank. The
Bank needs to know dose this company has the ability to repay the loans and interest. Also potential

During the late 1920 s and 1930 s, the government of the United States followed both conservative

1. What led to the success of Maine and Kentucky s Temporary Assistance to Needy families Post
Secondary Reform movements?
Maine is a small state that is not terribly diverse in it s population. Ethnic and racial minorities make
up just less that 2 percent of its population (U.S. Census Bureau). Maine has also been considered one
of the more poorer states. Maine s economy relies heavily on tourist seasons and with a slow
economy, unemployment, under employment and low paying jobs occur. (Price, 2005).
When is came to challenge the Temporary Assistance to Needy families reform movement, Maine was
the first state to successfully do so. Maine is state that is committed to education. Under the Reagan
administration there was a federal Work Incentive Demonstration project ,which allowed women on
welfare the chance to go to college, the state s advocates convinced the Department of Human
Services to take advantage of this program. Fortunately for Maine, the state tends to promote
accessibility to all citizens, which is not common amongst state welfare bureaucracies. The advocates
recognized that education was a way to get rid of poverty, not to mention empower women and
potentially stimulate their economy. Eventually, this demonstration came to be known as ASPIRE.
(Price, 2005).
Interestingly, the road to reform in Maine started when a woman overheard a

Arkansas Tech History
Arkansas Tech University Founded in 1909, Arkansas Tech University is rich in history and is now
one of the fastest growing universities in the state. Tech is a great university at a convenient location.
The name was changed to Arkansas Tech University on July 1, 1976. Arkansas Tech was founded by
Act 100 of the 37th Arkansas General Assembly. The Act was signed into law by Governor Donaghey
on April 1, 1909. Arkansas Tech University was one of the first state agricultural schools mandated at
that time. It cost $120 million dollars in construction, renovations, and instructional equipment. On the
first day of school, there were nine faculty members and 186 students. The university offers
baccalaureate and graduate levels. The Ross Pendergraft Library and Technology Center opened in
July 1999. A.K. Short was the principal at the new school. The school opened for classes in the fall of
1910. The first day of classes at the Second District Agricultural School was October 26,1910. It was
primarily a specialized high school whose first student to enroll was the man who would later become
the school s first band director, Marvin Williamson.

Pax Roman A Time Of Peace And Learning
Research paper: Pax Romana Rome s Golden Age, often called the Pax Romana , was a time of peace
and learning after the ongoing wars with neighboring barbarians, and civil wars. During this time of
peace, the Romans greatly expanded their commerce and also refine their art. With peace, the romans
spent less time focusing on war and more time focusing on the arts. History remembers the legendary
Roman legions as the one of the most deadly and successful fighting forces in the ancient world. Even
today, stories of their great success and invincibility in the face of their enemies are still known. At the
height of their empire, the Romans were able to conquer a vast empire that stretched over three
continents and maintain t power for centuries over the Mediterranean Sea. The key to Rome s military
success during the Pax Romana was the advanced military innovations that the Romans incorporated
into its great army that included military bureaucracy, advanced battle tactics and military technology.
The Pax Romana was a time of relative peace during the Roman Empire. Although there were small
conflicts during The Pax Romana it was generally known as a time of prosperity and expansion for
Rome, mainly under the leadership of Emperor Augustus and Tiberius who successfully expanded
borders and made peace with neighboring barbarians. Pax Romana is Latin for peaceful Rome. It
lasted from 27 BC to 180 AD, from the end of the Republican Civil wars to the death of Marcus
Aurelious.

Robert Frost s Poem Nothing Gold Can Stay
Identity Poem: Nothing Gold Can Stay
In the poem Nothing Gold Can Stay, Frost was trying to portray that the leaf first starts out in
springtime. All of nature is gold and then turns into the green that is perceived by all humans. The
golden flowers do not stay that color for long, as when the flowers bud they turn into a green hue. He
talks about this natural process and sort of compares it to the story of the Garden of Eden. What I
think he is trying to say is how beauty never stays but is always short lived. The poem sort of portrays
about the human life in general and how humans see gold as money and fortune but really once that is
all gone there is nothing left, no more beauty. We find so much contentment in money just as Adam
and Eve were content with eating the apple but was that what makes humans or even America happy.

In the poem Fire and Ice, I feel in the beginning of two different kind of people in the world. The ones

Technology And The Social Construction Of A Younger...
Globilisation is a continually growing and increasing factor in our everyday lives. As technology
improves, the ability for people to communicate increases. The transfer of ideas, information and the
sharing of cultures becomes exceedingly simple. As technology improves the people using that
technology have access to a much wider experience of the world than previously would have been
possible. In this way as each generation grows up in a globalised world, the factors that influence their
social queues, their ability to choose peers, and what is accessible in popular culture, vastly changes
the dynamic that a younger generation would have in comparison to the generation that came before
them. Globilisation is an extremely important factor in the social construction of a younger
generations culture.
The second half of the twentieth century has been a period of massive human migration, both locally
and internationally. This period also saw a huge increase in the transfer of information and ideas
between different countries through various forms of communication, the most predominant in recent
periods being the internet. (Kaufman, 2002, 13) Migrations, and the transfers of new ideas and
information, can bring many different opportunities for the many different generations of family
members. It is common for older family members to find adjustment to a new cultures challenging,
however, younger family members can experience it more readily and in a number of different ways.

Teachers Expectations Influence Pupils Performance
This essay will look at whether teachers expectations influence pupils performance by discussing
areas such as classroom dynamics, student circumstances, teacher s beliefs and student/teacher
relationships. Through this analysis it will bring in concepts such as the self fulfilling prophecy , The
Hawthorne effect and Rosenthal s Pygmalion. Throughout the overall discussion it will utilise the
main authors and studies in this field whilst creating a balanced argument.
Before looking at the theories and studies that support the argument it is important to look at two
individual but interconnected factors that can influence pupils performance. Studies have found that in
some cases teachers develop their expectations based on reliable criteria, such as past academic
performance or classroom behaviour (Dusek Joseph, 1983). Moreover, research conducted by Rist
(1970) sheds light on the idea that teachers generally have a preconceived idea of what it takes for a
student to succeed academically, thus, explaining, the majority of teachers believe that there is an ideal
type of student who possess specific characteristics which will insure academic success. However
despite this, Dusek Joseph (1983) conducted an analysis of various studies in order to determine the
bases of this argument and found that gender and belonging to a one parent family were usually not
determinants of teacher expectations.
Another factor that can influence teachers expectations of a student is

Gilette Turnaround Essay
Introduction
In 2001, Jim Kilts became the first non Gillette person in history to be named the Chairman and CEO
of Gillette. Kilts had a very successful change effort. By the beginning of 2005, Gillette had $11
billion in revenues and sold products in over 170 countries. Gillette generated $2 billion in cash
compared with $400 million when Kilts first arrived. Before Kilt s arrival at Gillette, the company had
fifteen consecutive quarters of below budget earnings. Once the turnaround started though, things
changed such that by the end of 2004, Gillette posted six consecutive quarters of record profits.
According to Kanter and Bird 2008, employees who once worried about an imminent takeover at the
turn of the millennium, exuded a new confidence in themselves and in their teams. The stock market

Among these is the need to identify and address the fundamental problems. Also critical is the ability
to stay focused on tackling the life threatening problems and to not waste resourses on the non mission
critical ones. The turnaround leader must therefore not be distracted by the symtoms, but must remain
resolute in addressing the underlying causes of the company s illness.
In order to determine the underlying causes of the cmpany s illness, a diagnostic review must be
undertaken. It would be pointless engaging in a grand plan to turnaround a company if turnaround is
not a viable option. There are therefore two critical uses of the diagnostic review; to determine
whether turnaround is a viable option and to determine what is the best implementation plan for the
turnaround.
According to Stuart, Lovett and Barlow 2006, In the turnaround process, the first task a prospective
turnaround leader will want to commence is an analysis of the situation. This initial and critical phase
has the following

Its profanity has been declared in numerous states, as parents claim to be fearful that their children
will be scarred by the events and foul language in the novel (Reiff). This fear has been elevated so
much, in fact, that in the 1960s there were teachers from Kentucky, Okla, Tulsa, and Louisville that
almost lost their jobs for assigning the novel to their classes. As a result of this, the book was
prohibited in many school libraries (Dutra). Many people in North America also find the references to
sexual acts and prostitution to be completely disturbing, and consider them to be pornographic and
encouraging of premarital sex, homosexuality and perversion (Reiff). This concern was much more
prominent in the years leading up to the 1970s, when most of society was not open to this type of
literature. Additionally, rebellion and deception are consistently displayed in Holden s thoughts and
actions, and his obsession with human intimacy may send the message to young people that sexual
intercouse is an appropriate thing for a person to discuss and think about regularly. When accounting
for all of this, it is difficult to argue that the The Catcher in the Rye should not be censored. Despite

the novel, many critics argue that the story gives young readers that

First Impressions Of African Americans
First Impressions It is amazing how a first impression can affect something. It can determine how an
entire culture is perceived. The first impression is the birthplace of a stereotype. A reference point
based on a minority giving off the impression that the entirety is the same. These ideas are a plague to
the human race that goes uninterrupted, and here is no greater victim of succumbing to impressionable
stereotypes than the youth. The first impression of the African people resulted in their image suffering.
Africa has been given the stereotype that everyone is primitive and living in poverty. This is only a
very small population but this idea of them being less fortunate has more traction to the human mind.
People enjoy pitying the less fortunate and let s them feel like they are a good person. This seems
childish and self centered, but it is a major drive in the human psyche to be this way. The idea that
Africa is full of mostly poverty is simply not true. That s only a very minute amount of the population.

preconceived notions and stereotypes. If humans as a species want to get past stereotyping then they
need to start by training the youth, because the youth is the future of the human race. Unfortunately,
big business and government officials use stereotypes as propaganda to push a product or idea to the

they are the major figures that are looked up to for answers. Government and big business know this

incidence of abuse or harm to self and others. Lack of appropriate training and supervision can put not
only the client at risk for physical injury but the carer as well. As for Mrs. M, she needs careful
moving and handling method and appropriate equipment to avoid non accidental use of force in

and reviewing the risk involved in moving and handling the service user it is recommended that the
service user will need two staffs to assist her in feeding and moving, otherwise she will be left hurting

Franchising Is A Major Driver Of Business Development And...
Franchising
According to Hill, Jones, and Schilling (2015), franchising is a strategy in which the franchisor or the
founding company grants the franchisees, the purchasing company, the right to use the franchisor s
name, reputation, and business model in return for a franchise fee and often a percentage fee and often
a percentage of the profit. The business must operate under strict guidelines, follow the rules,
regulations, and standards given by the founding franchisors (Hill, et al 2015, p. 182). This creates a
business relationship between the two. According to Ribeiro, D., Akehurst, G. P. (2014) franchising
has become a major driver of business development and franchisor brand equity is a critical factor
with a clear impact on the perception and behavior of the franchise. Franchises brings together
independent companies and establish agreements between two parties.
Requirement to become a franchise
Hill, et al, (2015), states that typically, franchisees must adhere to some strict rules which governs how
to do business. The franchisor requires them to take the same basic business model and run in a certain
manner. They must have the same basic look, operate in a certain way, feel, offering, pricing and
business processes as other. The founding business assists the franchisee and typically receives a
percentage of the revenues (Hill, et al 2015, p. 182).

The Purges allowed Stalin even further control of the party. Under the guise of unmasking enemies,
Stalin selected government and party members who would be tried as counter revolutionaries and
sentenced to death or sent to Gulags that were set up all across Russia. This idea itself is a major
addition to the idea that Stalin started a second revolution in the USSR .
By removing anyone who stood in the way of his policies, Stalin was free to rule the way he saw fit.
In essence Stalin had created a government where anything he said, went. The Purges also changed the
face of the government. Offices that had long been held by a single man were now occupied by new
faces. This is comparable to the personnel changes that occurred during the October Revolution.
Another component of the Stalinist Revolution was the idea of Socialism in One Country. After the
fall of all other socialist regimes in Europe, Stalin came to the conclusion that the Soviet Union must
strengthen itself internally and must push towards communism alone until other countries were ready
for the Socialist Revolution. This idea that Stalin supported so vehemently was a large contributor to
Stalin s ability to further exercise his control over the nation and influence the economic policy of the
Soviet Union, with such measures as the Five Year Plans and the removal of the New Economic
Policy .

The Importance Of Property Rights Of Native Americans
In today s society when thinking of Civil rights, or those whose rights have been taken advantage of,
what is the first minority that comes to mind? For me, I have learned about the abuse towards African
Americans and their history as slaves. Most people don t think of Native Americans. Most people do
not relate Native American issues with modern times. Native Americans are at the bottom of most
economic structures and have been since the beginning of time. I chose to demonstrate how the
majority of the Native American tribes are suffering in terms of social, economic and intellectual
standards due to lack of property rights. Native Americans deserve the same rights as other American
citizens. Solutions that help the Native Americans gain property rights can aid in the issues that are
affecting their everyday life. The property rights of Native Americans have been abused since the
beginning of Early colonization. Beginning with Columbus and other early settlers, the Native
Americans were driven from their land and many were enslaved. Europeans used an International law,
the Doctrine of Discovery, to claim the lands of America. Europeans used the term terra nullius, empty
land, to define an area inhabited by people who were not subject to international law nor belong to a
recognized nation. The American Indians did not qualify, so the settlers made claim to the land
(Crepelle 317). When the early settlers came to the Americas, the Native Americans helped them learn

India, China And South Africa
INTRODUCTION.
BRICS is an emerging geopolitical acronym that has influenced the international system one way or
another. BRICS stands for Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. They share a common
political objective which is state sovereignty while increasing economic and social independence as
well as interdependence. India is one of countries in the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and
South Africa) group which have been recognized for its phenomenal economic growth because of
globalization and this has moved the country from being considered a poor nation to being a rising
middle class country (Rao, 2004). India is a good example of a country that have benefitted from
globalization in some respects. It sustained a high and accelerated growth rate over the past 25 years
making it the fourth largest economy in the world next to China. The Indian economy has done very
well in terms of the growth of the GDP (about 6 per cent per year in the real terms in the 1990s, rising
to more than 7 per cent in the last decade (Jean, Dreze Amartya Sen, 2013). To understand India s
development, it is necessary to understand its demography, its structure and characteristics. It is not
only the largest democracy in the world, but it also the second largest country in the world because of
its population (Raj, 2004, p.401). As of 2014, it has a population of about 1,236,344,631, it rose by

memory of the family they were once adopted by; to keep the friends and the bonds created close to

Red # 40 Dyes
In the United States and in most of the world food dyes are exceedingly common. In addition to this,
they have been brought into question as being dangerous for human and environmental health. From
general observation and knowledge about this topic I knew that Red #40 dye (Allura Red AC) is at the
height of this controversy. After some initial research, I discovered more information on Azo dyes,
their effect on the environment, as well as wastewater treatment used to decontaminate water
containing these dyes. This led to my interest on the topic of Electrochemical Advanced Oxidation
Processes (EAOPs) as a fairly recent solution to environmental issues regarding contaminants in

This is largely because they are relatively cheap and simple to manufacture. Furthermore, they
produce vibrant shades of color and are reasonably soluble in water (Liu, Wan, Nan, n.d.). However,
these dyes are now manufactured at such a large scale that they bring up numerous health and
environmental concerns. In recent years azo dyes, especially Allura Red AC, have been connected to
child hyperactivity, which also raises concerns over other potentially toxic effects they can have on
living organisms ( FDA Probes Link , 2011). This is only amplified by the fact that azo dyes such as
Allura Red AC and Azo Grenadine are also especially recalcitrant to conventional methods of
wastewater treatment. Research on this topic led me to an article on electrochemical advanced
oxidation processes and their potential as a solution to mineralizing especially recalcitrant compounds
in the environment, Decontamination of Wastewaters Containing Synthetic Organic Dyes by
Electrochemical Methods: A Review. This led me to pursue the investigation in my extended essay on
the topic of electrochemical advanced oxidation processes and the effect they have on azo dyes such
as Allura Red AC and Azo Grenadine. In order to evaluate the effect of this process, I made the
decision to do a comparison of the two dyes. This led me to the question, How does the effect of

Food Waste Disposal and Reduction
According to the Society of St. Andrew the United States spends about 1 billion dollars a year just to
dispose of food waste (1). Food waste is food material that is unable to be eaten or sold which is
discarded as trash. Food should be too precious to Americans to waste. It nourishes people s bodies
and brings families together, and they treat food as if it has little to no worth. Food is discarded on
farms, while being transported and in retail stores before being sold; it is also discarded in everyday
households. Americans are their own enemy, increasing food waste everyday by not being aware of
the outcome. Reducing food waste will bring upon many benefits within society but consumers and
businesses have to be willing to put forth the effort. There are simple solutions that can be implicated
in production, distribution and households in order to decrease food waste. The quality of food in
society has declined due to its accessibility. There are convenient grocery stores in a communities
selling food. There is an enormous amount of people suffering from poverty and hunger. There are
854 million people in the world who are chronically malnourished. (Sanchez 1). People suffering from

Dry Filters During WWII
During the Second World War a multitude of dry filters containing wood wool, sisal fibre, glass wool,
wood chips soaked in oil, and other types of fibrous or granular material were used for removal of the
fine dust (average particle size below 60 micron), but success was very limited.
Wet purifiers such as water and oil scrubbers and bubblers are also effective but only within certain
limits.
The best cleaning effect is obtained by employing cloth filters. However, normal cloth filters are very
sensitive to the gas temperature. In the case of wood or agricultural waste gasification, the dew point
of the gas will be around 70 C. Below this temperature water will condense in the filters, causing
obstruction of the gas flow and an unacceptable

The Book Of Ezekiel And The Destruction Of Jerusalem
The Book of Ezekiel is and the man himself is in the midst of historical event associated with the
demise of Judah and the destruction of Jerusalem (587 B.C.E) Ezekiel, along with other Judahites
were taken into exile in Babylon in 597. In effect there were two Judahs one in the land of Judah and
one in exile. One king, Jehoiachin was in exile and Zedekiah in Jerusalem. Under Babylonian bonds
and rejecting prophetic advice, they refused to pay their tribute. Within a few years, the temple, city
walls, and homes of Jerusalem were burned and leveled. More citizens were carried away to Babylon,
and those who remained soon fled to Egypt for security. Ezekiel was told to warn God s people that
there were consequences to their lack of fidelity. God cautioned them that refusal to live by the
covenant would bring its own discipline. The people did not listen to the Prophet Ezekiel: he was
disliked for his words, and alienated for his message. He told the people that God would allow them to
live as orphans if they chose to be orphans to live outside of God s covenant. After the fall of
Jerusalem, the Babylonian general Nebuzaraddan was sent to complete its destruction. Solomon s
Temple was destroyed. Most of the elite were taken into captivity in Babylon. Jerusalem was razed to
the ground.
This period in his life and in his ministry, calling or priesthood had an impact on his life. He was born
into a priestly lineage. Ezekiel 1:3 states the word of the Lord came in

Mosquito Repellent Industry
MOSQUITO REPELLENT INDUSTRY OVERVIEW
Its sole reason for existence in the market is the omnipresent mosquito, which makes life
excruciatingly difficult for the average Indian during summer and monsoon months. In many ways the
primary factor fuelling the explosive growth of this market characterized by low brand loyalty and low
product involvement has been the availability of cost effective, mosquito repellents.
The night long noisy drone of mosquitoes that disturbs our sleep is music to the ears of the Rs1, 100
crore mosquito repellent industry.
The various segments in this industry are coils, mats, vaporizers, aerosols and creams. The two new
segments are personal sprays and gels.

Although the initial success of All Out was largely due to technological innovation and first mover
advantages, it was widely believed that what had kept the brand going was strong marketing. KAPL
decided to handle the advertising for All Out on its own, surprising many industry watchers and
drawing criticism from some ad agencies. However, the company surprised everybody with the launch
of a campaign featuring an animated, jumping frog (actually an All Out vaporizer) eating mosquitoes,
which proved to be immensely successful. In 1998, KAPL came out with a Rs 99 pack consisting of
the Pluggy and a refill. The deal, called the deadly offer was backed by heavy advertising. . After
KAPL s deadly exchange scheme, GoodKnight s share decreased by 9.3% in volume terms between
September 1999 and February 2000.
KAPL s distribution network consisted of around 120 distributors across the country. Of the 900,000
outlets across the country, that sold repellants, KAPL was available in only 18%. As this was
significantly lower than the 55% figure for R C and 54% for GSSL, KAPL is working towards
increasing its presence.

Social Media Has An Inopportune Impact On Society
Technology has been improving yearly and has now become part of many people s life. Humans have
become dependent on technology for many things like to communicate, to learn, to create things, to
advertise, the list is endless. Access to the internet has become easier even in underdeveloped
countries. This means that almost anyone can post, share, comment, and do many different functions
that social media allows to do.
Considering that technology is easy to access and that people depend on it, it is almost impossible to
not have a controversial conversation over it. Some people believe that posting on social media has an
inopportune impact on society. However, there are a lot of positive impacts social media has on
society. Social media bring people together and helps society in a lot of ways. Posting to social media
comes with responsibilities since what is posted could not be taken lightly by someone else however,
there should be no fear in posting since the freedom to do so is there for the taking and can benefit in
many ways. First and foremost, social media was made to share ideas. In order to share ideas a way
for things to be published and seen by others had to be created. Social media is defined as the ability
to use the internet to share and communicate instantly with others (historycooperative.org). The
developers of social media applications such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, and many
more, found a way to make this possible. In Facebook and

broken hip with answer 4
Chief Complaint: 72 year old woman who fell on her right hip.
History: Margaret Donovan, a 72 year old white female, was brought to the emergency room by her
son in law after falling in her bathtub. She was previously in good health, despite leading a relatively
sedentary lifestyle and having a 30 pack year history of cigarette smoking. The only medication she
currently takes is Inderal (propranolol) for mild hypertension. She fell upon entering the bathtub when
her right leg slipped out from under her; she landed on her right hip. There was no trauma to her head,
nor does she complain of right or left wrist pain. However, she reports severe pain in the right hip and
upper thigh, and was unable to get up after her fall. An injection ... Show more content on

Given the above considerations, Margaret s osteoporotic femurs are vulnerable to fracture because of
(A) the loss of spongy bone in the epiphyses and (B) the thinning of the bony collar in the diaphysis.
6. Describe the changes that a broken bone undergoes as it is healing. The bony collar of long bones
helps them withstand compressive stress by the mechanism described in #4A above (i.e.
hydroxyapatite, weight bearing pillars). In addition, long bones also withstand compressive forces by
virtue of the spongy ( cancellous ) bone in the epiphyses. The interlocking network of bony plates
(called trabeculae ) found in spongy bone help to distribute the weight of the body out to the tough
bony collar of the diaphysis. In this way, bony plates act much like the trusses or struts in old time
railroad bridges which distribute the weight of the train evenly over the entire bridge.
7. During her long recovery, Margaret is advised by her physician to begin weight bearing as soon as
she can. How does weight bearing influence the process you described in question #6? (Be specific in
your answer and describe what weight bearing does to bone at the microscopic level.) The most
popular hypothesis regarding the effect of weight bearing on bone remodeling is called Wolff s law .
Wolff s law states that bone grows and remodels in response to the mechanical stresses placed upon it

Job Interview At The United States
Introduction At the age of 17 I enlisted in the United States Navy, and since have completed multiple
combat deployments, lived overseas and been a part of multiple other billets representing the United
States of America. These were times well spent, however, only to a very limited extent did they
prepare me to conduct an affective and articulate job interview. Present day, the U.S. Military has
implemented an extensive job interview process, with the goal of selecting qualified individuals for
vital roles within our government. The job interview project opened my eyes to a world of preparation
and focus that I never knew existed. In this paper, I prepare a job interview strategy, identifying a few
character traits that are the foundation of my being, and then link these traits to memorable life
experiences that have had a profound effect upon me and those who I interacted with. The next few
sections of the paper entail observations and a critique of a recently conducted mock job interview,
and my elevator speech which is hyper linked for reference. I conclude with vital lessons learned
throughout the job interview process and project courses of action for a successful outcome from
future interviews.
Key traits and life experiences that have shaped who I am
Spending a fair amount of time deployed in the defense of the United States of America has led me to
appreciate all that this country has to offer, and not take the freedoms we enjoy for granted. Most of

Paul Poiret Linear By Women In The 1930 s
Another garment that was often worn by women in 1930 s was a sarong. A sarong, also known as
pareo, is a free fitting garment, that when popularized in the West was worn by woman primary as a
skirt, or a dress . A sarong was a versatile piece of clothing. It was uses as colorful curtains, window
shades, tablecloths, and beach towels .
The most shocking fashion trend that appeared in the thirties were most definitely trousers. Created by
a French designer Paul Poiret in 1913, they quickly became a favorite piece of clothing for women,
who had to do a physical job. During the Depression era, trousers still maintained being stylish, yet to

Essay about The Dopamine Hypothesis of Schizophrenia
The Dopamine Hypothesis of Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a disease that has plagued societies around the world for centuries, although it was
not given its formal name until 1911. It is characterized by the presence of positive and negative
symptoms. Positive symptoms are so named because of the presence of altered behaviors, such as
delusions, hallucinations (usually auditory), extreme emotions, excited motor activity, and incoherent
thoughts and speech. (1,2) In contrast, negative symptoms are described as a lack of behaviors, such
as emotion, speech, social interaction, and action. (1,2) These symptoms are by no means concrete.
Not all schizophrenic patients will exhibit all or even a majority of these symptoms, and there is some

(2) However, there are some problems with this evidense. Amphetamines only mimic the positive
symptoms of schizophrenia. They do not produce any of the negative symptoms. Likewise, anti
psychotic drugs are only affective on the positive symptoms of the disease. There is still some
evidense that schizophrenics do posess higher levels of dopamine, however, these increases are only
found in the striatum of the brain (7). The striatum is a region of the brain that receives its inputs from
and outputs to the cortex. Injury to the striatum results in problems with intiation and control of motor
behavior. (9) Also, there is evidence that the prefrontal cortex produces lower levels of dopamine. (4)
The prefrontal cortex is involved in the organization and coordination of information to and from the
cortex. (7)
The major support and refutation of the dopamine hypothesis has come from the examination of
dopamine receptors in these regions of the brain. There are two main types of dopamine receptors, D1
and D2. However, within the category of D2 receptors, there are three subtypes, D2, D3, and D4. (5)
Through PET scan analysis of dopamine usage in the brain and post mordum molecular analysis of
brain tissue, researcher were able to determine relative levels of dopamine receptors in patients with
schizophrenia compared to non schizophrenics. Overall analysis of dopamine

Assistive Technologies For The Classroom
Introduction
Assistive technologies are any device or aid that makes completing a task easier. From something as
simple as large print for the vision impaired, to more complex assistive technologies like hearing aids
for the hearing impaired. Assistive technologies are designed to make life and learning easier. The use
of assistive technologies inside the classroom is dependent upon many factors. From what support is
provided by the school and other agencies, to the standards and regulations that schools must obeyed
by. The most important factor though is the needs of the students and what assistive technology best
supports their needs. Finding and deciding which assistive technologies best support a student can be

Inclusive Education
Every child has a right to an education and equal opportunity. Special needs schools are becoming a
thing of the past and students are being integrated into mainstream schools. In 1994 ninety two
governments and twenty five international organisations gathered with the belief that all students,
including those with special education needs, are entitled to an education delivered by mainstream
schools (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, 1994). These like minded
governments and international organisations came together to outline a guide for all those schools who
believe in inclusive education. Stated in the guidelines schools and support services were to receive
resources to support student s learning and ensure teachers are well trained (UNESCO, 1994).
Assistive technologies, from Ipads to wheelchairs, would fall under the category of resources.
Assistive Technologies
Assistive technologies are designed and manufactured to make life and learning easier. AT supports
both the teacher of special needs students and the student s development. There is a wide range of AT
available and the appropriate AT is dependent on the student s needs. Foreman and Arthur Kelly
(2014) stated, the task of finding the appropriate AT for students can be complicated and drawn out.
The task of finding the appropriate AT can be demanding and appear to be extra work

  • 2. The Aeneid Vs Odyssey Before comparing the actual stories of The Aeneid and The Iliad, one must consider the remarkable success that the two respective stories have received since their origins in ancient Greece and Rome. Homer, author of The Iliad and its famous counterpart The Odyssey, is a legendary figure in history. Some question his actual existence and prefer to regard his two most famous works as stories of oral tradition that were constructed and refined with thousands of retellings by numerous poets over time. Others see Homer as a real man who entertained guests with his witty, complex stories and later had scribes write down his famous words. It will be assumed throughout this paper that Homer did exist for the sake of simplicity. On the other hand, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite the major differences between the overall plot of the two books, the final battle scenes are remarkably similar. As with anything, there is always a precursor to the end that informs the audience of the impending crisis that the protagonist will have to face. For the Iliad and the Aeneid, this precursor comes in the form of a shield given by divine powers. Both Achilles and Aeneas were in desperate need of a new shield that would not only offer protection against the strongest spear throwers but also provoke intimidation and wonder. Achilles had given his previous shield to Patrocles and subsequently lost it to looting due to Patrocles s tragic death. Aeneas, meanwhile, was at the tail end of an epic journey across much of the ancient world. His people had lost almost everything in the sacking of Troy and although he had weapons they were not powerful enough and not worthy enough for the leader of the quest. Both receive shields from divine sponsers. Achilles entreats his mother for help and she convinces the blacksmith Hephaestus to craft a shield which he makes ...large and strong, adorning it with beautiful designs all over (Iliad 225). The shield depicts all of creation with the sun, moon, and stars in the middle and complex designs of humans and cattle ringing the outside layers. In the Aeneid, Athena begs ... • 3. T-Mobile 1 Commercial Analysis In the T Mobile 1 commercial it starts out with a middle aged man and Kristen Schaal. The commercial was inspired off of the movie 50 Shades of Grey or the movie 50 Shades Darker, which was made after the initial movie, 50 Shades of Grey. The two individuals enter the playroom where numerous objects are seen hung all over the room. Schaal was being blindfolded as she walked into the room. As the man starts to unravel the blindfold Schaal gasps in such astonishment of the room. Later on the man starts stating the specific elements Verizon has to offer. The more data the mobile user uses, the more punishments they will receive. Schaal was thrilled acknowledging this information. The man later whips his whip and describes if mobile users are into things ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is logical for people wanting to save money on their phone bill. If the mobile user goes over the limited amount then the cost will start to accumulate. Every time you go over your data limit you get punished. Nobody would want to pay outrageous rate and fees. The gasps, excitement, and the thrills is what created the pathos. Schaal was astonished by all the facts he was saying because she was into that type of pain. T Mobile 1 argues that they are a more reliable company with less punishing fees thus creating ethos. Symbolism is seen in this also. The red Verizon phone screen seen dangling from the stand represents data being overly used causing the phone bill to inflate. The whip also acts as a form of symbolism representing the punishment. Another literary term that was involved during this commercial is parody. In general the T Mobile 1 commercial imitates the movie 50 Shades of Grey. Irony could also be included during this commercial because the mobile plan can sometimes cause people to be indecisive on whether they want to feel the pain or not. In the commercial it said Wireless pain is fine if you re into that sort of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Physics of Archery Essay The Physics of Archery There are not many activities out there that relax and soothe me quite like shooting my bow. It is not as simple as it sounds though, just pulling on the string, releasing the string, and watching the arrow fly towards your target. There are a number of aspects that must be taken into consideration when trying to shoot a bow and arrow efficiently, this is where we will get into the physics of archery. There are two main things to consider when looking at archery and the physics concepts behind it. First there is the bow, which basically is a device that uses human force over a distance and converts that into stored Mechanical Potential Energy. The second factor involves that stored Mechanical Energy being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The materials that construct the Recurve bow must be taken into consideration when looking at the force applied from the bow. The most popular material for traditional archers today would have to be a certain type of wood from the yew tree. The reason for this particular choice of wood is that it contains the highest elastic energy storage per unit mass for any type of wood, which is around 700 Jkg 1. Which is very close to having the same rating as spring steel. However with technology these days more people are leaning towards a type of carbon fiberglass laminate. This particular combination brings both a lighter weight than wood and a higher elasticity rating. The reason some wood bows are still around is due to the fact the old timer traditional type archers shun using any kind of technology or advancements to aid them in shooting their bows. The material of the strings also needs to be taken into consideration, this is so because the string mass needs to be kept as low as possible for obvious reasons with efficiency and speed of the bow. Another thing to be looked at would be the Draw Weight or Draw Force of the bow, which basically is how much weight or force is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

People come to America to live a better life, but it s not all it s cracked up to be. When Veterans come back home, all they want is a second chance at life again. They want to come back and be able to start from where they left off. But the government has done very little to help these veterans. The government believes they have done enough with the programs they have created, but it hasn t had much of a change. So if there are worries before war, there definitely has to be problems post war. When veterans return, they expect things to go back to normal, but they are definitely different. Veteran families have post war problems just like the veterans. If the veteran has trouble reintegrating into civil life, that affects their everyday mood and their ability to support their family. These families worry about their loved one falling into depression, having anxiety, and committing suicide. In the article Home from War by Lizette Alvarez, she talks with Anthony Klecker who states that I was trying to be the tough marine I was trained to be not to talk about problems, not to cry.... I imprisoned myself in my own mind. This is a big contributor to the suffering that families go through, because they don t know what their family member is thinking. They have no idea what to do to be able to help because these veterans want to keep everything bottled up. There are also cases where the children end up developing the same mental illnesses because of what they see. Everything that children see affects them a lot, changing their future probably for the worst. The one solution these families want is for more help from the government, even though they already help. They just want to help these veterans move on from the war lifestyle. Maya Angelou s poem of the struggle to a new wave of equality uses both general symbolism and historical allusion to make its theme clear to the reader. From the beginning Victoria s mother dictated her life. Marie hoped to become regent if Victoria s Uncle s both died before her 18th birthday. To achieve this, Marie devised the Kensington system, in which every aspect of Victoria s life would be monitored in order to make Victoria dependent upon her mother ( Queen Victoria ). What Does The Cat In The Sky Mean In THE GOLDEN CAT, Gabriel King continues the enchanting quest that began with The Wild Road the novel the San Francisco Chronicle crowned mythical, and Richard Adams, author of Watership Down, deemed absolutely magical. . . The ancient prophecy speaks of a golden cat whose coming will heal the troubled world. But the Queen of Cats has three golden kittens and when two are stolen away, the distraught parents turn to Tag, the brave young cat who is the protector of the magical Wild Road. The desperate search moves from the water lit Oceanarium and sun dappled Tintagel to the distant Louisiana bayous and the pyramids of Egypt. As Tag and his friends struggle on, so does a terrifying, unearthly force a preternatural vortex threatening the Wild Road, tearing at the very fabric of existence. But Tag is disastrously unprepared for the powerful darkness that threatens to consume everything in its walk. This in itself can be interpreted as some sort of a dance. This shows that although the two are different in so many ways, they are still close kindred and can change with each other. In Canada, the death penalty has been abolished since 1976 and there is little support for reinstatement. (Rust Tierney) Not only are African Americans more likely to receive the death penalty but 83% of cases that do receive it involve white victims. This is true despite the fact that only 50% of murder victims are white. (Rust Tierney) These statistics do not indicate a fair and unbiased system, people are equipped with their own prejudices and consciously or not these leanings have created a disparity in the justice structure. The system is also biased against the poor. Individuals with little to no wealth can not access the high cost, well equipped representation the rich can. Over 99% of people sentenced to capital punishment are indigent and are often poorly represented. There is a plethora of other issues that arise with the death penalty, the sentencing is inconsistent, dependent on the prosecutors and judges in the specific case, and the mentally ill are condemned despite laws implemented to prevent this. Burton Sohn English II Honors 7 April 2015 Word Count: 1360 The Golden Age of Greece The golden age of Greece, especially the Periclean age of Athens, was considered to be the defining age of Greek history. The amount of cultural and intellectual innovation in Greece was at its height during the nearly 200 year period. From 500 300 BC, many great thinkers and philosophers rose and gave many a new perspective on life. As Matt Barrett explained, many philosopers, such as Socrates, dwelled in Athens, along with his then pupil, Plato. Socrates was one of the first of the philosophers to believe that life was not for collecting material possesions, or riches, but that it was for knowing oneself and the world around oneself. Socrates was later executed and forced to drink Hemlock for corrupting the youth of the city. Plato, Socrates pupil, was considered an idealist. Furthermore, according to Barrett, it is said that all philosophy is but a footnote to Plato. (Barrett) After the end of the Persian Wars, Athens began a nearly 50 year period of prosperity under Pericles, known as the Age of Pericles. During this time the Parthenon was built, and Athens became the cultural, intellectual, and the artistic center of the Greek world. Throughout this time period, Athens attracted a number of intellectuals and philosophers, which brought about a cultural and intellectual high point in Greek history. What led to the success of Maine and Kentucky s Temporary Assistance to Needy families Post Secondary Reform movements? Maine is a small state that is not terribly diverse in it s population. Ethnic and racial minorities make up just less that 2 percent of its population (U.S. Census Bureau). Maine has also been considered one of the more poorer states. Maine s economy relies heavily on tourist seasons and with a slow economy, unemployment, under employment and low paying jobs occur. (Price, 2005). When is came to challenge the Temporary Assistance to Needy families reform movement, Maine was the first state to successfully do so. Maine is state that is committed to education. Under the Reagan administration there was a federal Work Incentive Demonstration project ,which allowed women on welfare the chance to go to college, the state s advocates convinced the Department of Human Services to take advantage of this program. Fortunately for Maine, the state tends to promote accessibility to all citizens, which is not common amongst state welfare bureaucracies. The advocates recognized that education was a way to get rid of poverty, not to mention empower women and potentially stimulate their economy. • 25. Robert Frost s Poem Nothing Gold Can Stay Identity Poem: Nothing Gold Can Stay In the poem Nothing Gold Can Stay, Frost was trying to portray that the leaf first starts out in springtime. All of nature is gold and then turns into the green that is perceived by all humans. The golden flowers do not stay that color for long, as when the flowers bud they turn into a green hue. He talks about this natural process and sort of compares it to the story of the Garden of Eden. What I think he is trying to say is how beauty never stays but is always short lived. The poem sort of portrays about the human life in general and how humans see gold as money and fortune but really once that is all gone there is nothing left, no more beauty. We find so much contentment in money just as Adam and Eve were content with eating the apple but was that what makes humans or even America happy. Society Poem: Fire and Ice In the poem Fire and Ice, I feel in the beginning of two different kind of people in the world. • 26. Technology And The Social Construction Of A Younger... Globilisation is a continually growing and increasing factor in our everyday lives. As technology improves, the ability for people to communicate increases. The transfer of ideas, information and the sharing of cultures becomes exceedingly simple. As technology improves the people using that technology have access to a much wider experience of the world than previously would have been possible. In this way as each generation grows up in a globalised world, the factors that influence their social queues, their ability to choose peers, and what is accessible in popular culture, vastly changes the dynamic that a younger generation would have in comparison to the generation that came before them. Globilisation is an extremely important factor in the social construction of a younger generations culture. The second half of the twentieth century has been a period of massive human migration, both locally and internationally. This period also saw a huge increase in the transfer of information and ideas between different countries through various forms of communication, the most predominant in recent periods being the internet. (Kaufman, 2002, 13) Migrations, and the transfers of new ideas and information, can bring many different opportunities for the many different generations of family members. Teachers Expectations Influence Pupils Performance This essay will look at whether teachers expectations influence pupils performance by discussing areas such as classroom dynamics, student circumstances, teacher s beliefs and student/teacher relationships. Through this analysis it will bring in concepts such as the self fulfilling prophecy , The Hawthorne effect and Rosenthal s Pygmalion. Throughout the overall discussion it will utilise the main authors and studies in this field whilst creating a balanced argument. Before looking at the theories and studies that support the argument it is important to look at two individual but interconnected factors that can influence pupils performance. Studies have found that in some cases teachers develop their expectations based on reliable criteria, such as past academic performance or classroom behaviour (Dusek Joseph, 1983). Moreover, research conducted by Rist (1970) sheds light on the idea that teachers generally have a preconceived idea of what it takes for a student to succeed academically, thus, explaining, the majority of teachers believe that there is an ideal type of student who possess specific characteristics which will insure academic success. However despite this, Dusek Joseph (1983) conducted an analysis of various studies in order to determine the bases of this argument and found that gender and belonging to a one parent family were usually not determinants of teacher expectations. Most people do not relate Native American issues with modern times. Native Americans are at the bottom of most economic structures and have been since the beginning of time. • 40. Red # 40 Dyes In the United States and in most of the world food dyes are exceedingly common. In addition to this, they have been brought into question as being dangerous for human and environmental health. From general observation and knowledge about this topic I knew that Red #40 dye (Allura Red AC) is at the height of this controversy. After some initial research, I discovered more information on Azo dyes, their effect on the environment, as well as wastewater treatment used to decontaminate water containing these dyes. This led to my interest on the topic of Electrochemical Advanced Oxidation Processes (EAOPs) as a fairly recent solution to environmental issues regarding contaminants in water. I was curious to see how these processes work, as well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is largely because they are relatively cheap and simple to manufacture. Furthermore, they produce vibrant shades of color and are reasonably soluble in water (Liu, Wan, Nan, n.d.). However, these dyes are now manufactured at such a large scale that they bring up numerous health and environmental concerns. In recent years azo dyes, especially Allura Red AC, have been connected to child hyperactivity, which also raises concerns over other potentially toxic effects they can have on living organisms ( FDA Probes Link , 2011). This is only amplified by the fact that azo dyes such as Allura Red AC and Azo Grenadine are also especially recalcitrant to conventional methods of wastewater treatment. Research on this topic led me to an article on electrochemical advanced oxidation processes and their potential as a solution to mineralizing especially recalcitrant compounds in the environment, Decontamination of Wastewaters Containing Synthetic Organic Dyes by Electrochemical Methods: A Review. This led me to pursue the investigation in my extended essay on the topic of electrochemical advanced oxidation processes and the effect they have on azo dyes such as Allura Red AC and Azo Grenadine. In order to evaluate the effect of this process, I made the decision to do a comparison of the two dyes. This led me to the question, How does the effect of electrochemical advanced oxidation processes vary between Allura Red AC and Azo ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Food Waste Disposal and Reduction According to the Society of St. Andrew the United States spends about 1 billion dollars a year just to dispose of food waste (1). Food waste is food material that is unable to be eaten or sold which is discarded as trash. Food should be too precious to Americans to waste. It nourishes people s bodies and brings families together, and they treat food as if it has little to no worth. Food is discarded on farms, while being transported and in retail stores before being sold; it is also discarded in everyday households. Americans are their own enemy, increasing food waste everyday by not being aware of the outcome. Reducing food waste will bring upon many benefits within society but consumers and businesses have to be willing to put forth the effort. There are simple solutions that can be implicated in production, distribution and households in order to decrease food waste. The quality of food in society has declined due to its accessibility. There are convenient grocery stores in a communities selling food. There is an enormous amount of people suffering from poverty and hunger. There are 854 million people in the world who are chronically malnourished. (Sanchez 1). People suffering from world hunger, do not receive enough intake of nutrients that are composed in food, some do not eat at all receiving no nutrients. Dry Filters During WWII During the Second World War a multitude of dry filters containing wood wool, sisal fibre, glass wool, wood chips soaked in oil, and other types of fibrous or granular material were used for removal of the fine dust (average particle size below 60 micron), but success was very limited. Wet purifiers such as water and oil scrubbers and bubblers are also effective but only within certain limits. The best cleaning effect is obtained by employing cloth filters. However, normal cloth filters are very sensitive to the gas temperature. In the case of wood or agricultural waste gasification, the dew point of the gas will be around 70 C. Below this temperature water will condense in the filters, causing obstruction of the gas flow and an unacceptable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In effect there were two Judahs one in the land of Judah and one in exile. One king, Jehoiachin was in exile and Zedekiah in Jerusalem. Under Babylonian bonds and rejecting prophetic advice, they refused to pay their tribute. Within a few years, the temple, city walls, and homes of Jerusalem were burned and leveled. More citizens were carried away to Babylon, and those who remained soon fled to Egypt for security. Ezekiel was told to warn God s people that there were consequences to their lack of fidelity. God cautioned them that refusal to live by the covenant would bring its own discipline. The people did not listen to the Prophet Ezekiel: he was disliked for his words, and alienated for his message. He told the people that God would allow them to live as orphans if they chose to be orphans to live outside of God s covenant. History: Margaret Donovan, a 72 year old white female, was brought to the emergency room by her son in law after falling in her bathtub. She was previously in good health, despite leading a relatively sedentary lifestyle and having a 30 pack year history of cigarette smoking. The only medication she currently takes is Inderal (propranolol) for mild hypertension. She fell upon entering the bathtub when her right leg slipped out from under her; she landed on her right hip. There was no trauma to her head, nor does she complain of right or left wrist pain. However, she reports severe pain in the right hip and upper thigh, and was unable to get up after her fall. Given the above considerations, Margaret s osteoporotic femurs are vulnerable to fracture because of (A) the loss of spongy bone in the epiphyses and (B) the thinning of the bony collar in the diaphysis. 6. Describe the changes that a broken bone undergoes as it is healing. The bony collar of long bones helps them withstand compressive stress by the mechanism described in #4A above (i.e. hydroxyapatite, weight bearing pillars). In addition, long bones also withstand compressive forces by virtue of the spongy ( cancellous ) bone in the epiphyses. The interlocking network of bony plates (called trabeculae ) found in spongy bone help to distribute the weight of the body out to the tough bony collar of the diaphysis. In this way, bony plates act much like the trusses or struts in old time railroad bridges which distribute the weight of the train evenly over the entire bridge. 7. During her long recovery, Margaret is advised by her physician to begin weight bearing as soon as she can. How does weight bearing influence the process you described in question #6? (Be specific in your answer and describe what weight bearing does to bone at the microscopic level.) The most popular hypothesis regarding the effect of weight bearing on bone remodeling is called Wolff s law . Wolff s law states that bone grows and remodels in response to the mechanical stresses placed upon it (e.g. from muscle pull or gravitational ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Job Interview At The United States Introduction At the age of 17 I enlisted in the United States Navy, and since have completed multiple combat deployments, lived overseas and been a part of multiple other billets representing the United States of America. These were times well spent, however, only to a very limited extent did they prepare me to conduct an affective and articulate job interview. Present day, the U.S. Military has implemented an extensive job interview process, with the goal of selecting qualified individuals for vital roles within our government. The job interview project opened my eyes to a world of preparation and focus that I never knew existed. In this paper, I prepare a job interview strategy, identifying a few character traits that are the foundation of my being, and then link these traits to memorable life experiences that have had a profound effect upon me and those who I interacted with. The next few sections of the paper entail observations and a critique of a recently conducted mock job interview, and my elevator speech which is hyper linked for reference. I conclude with vital lessons learned throughout the job interview process and project courses of action for a successful outcome from future interviews. Key traits and life experiences that have shaped who I am Spending a fair amount of time deployed in the defense of the United States of America has led me to appreciate all that this country has to offer, and not take the freedoms we enjoy for granted. • 50. Essay about The Dopamine Hypothesis of Schizophrenia The Dopamine Hypothesis of Schizophrenia Schizophrenia is a disease that has plagued societies around the world for centuries, although it was not given its formal name until 1911. It is characterized by the presence of positive and negative symptoms. Positive symptoms are so named because of the presence of altered behaviors, such as delusions, hallucinations (usually auditory), extreme emotions, excited motor activity, and incoherent thoughts and speech. (1,2) In contrast, negative symptoms are described as a lack of behaviors, such as emotion, speech, social interaction, and action. (1,2) These symptoms are by no means concrete. Not all schizophrenic patients will exhibit all or even a majority of these symptoms, and there is some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (2) However, there are some problems with this evidense. Amphetamines only mimic the positive symptoms of schizophrenia. They do not produce any of the negative symptoms. Likewise, anti psychotic drugs are only affective on the positive symptoms of the disease. There is still some evidense that schizophrenics do posess higher levels of dopamine, however, these increases are only found in the striatum of the brain (7). The striatum is a region of the brain that receives its inputs from and outputs to the cortex. Injury to the striatum results in problems with intiation and control of motor behavior. (9) Also, there is evidence that the prefrontal cortex produces lower levels of dopamine. (4) The prefrontal cortex is involved in the organization and coordination of information to and from the cortex. (7) The major support and refutation of the dopamine hypothesis has come from the examination of dopamine receptors in these regions of the brain. There are two main types of dopamine receptors, D1 and D2. However, within the category of D2 receptors, there are three subtypes, D2, D3, and D4. (5) Through PET scan analysis of dopamine usage in the brain and post mordum molecular analysis of brain tissue, researcher were able to determine relative levels of dopamine receptors in patients with schizophrenia compared to non schizophrenics.
