Baroque and Classical Wordpainting Techniques
Renaissance and Baroque composers were faced with the task of creating complex pieces that
express both human emotion and ideas. While this is primarily one of the main purposes of all
forms of music itself, including genres today, in the 15th through 18th centuries, this was largely
done through the musical composition of a piece rather than the lyrics. Composers utilized several
different techniques in order to portray to the listener the purpose and meaning of the piece.
Renaissance composers were focused on furthering the texts in music, fully developing the lyrics
Therefore, the use of word painting, the musical representation of a literal word, phrase, or poetic
image, is clearly seen in many pieces. Baroque music, with the... Show more content on

In the piece Tu Se Morta this idea can be heard from the very first notes. After being told of
Eurydice s death, Orpheus declares his emotions in Tu Se Morta. The piece begins an organ and
a bass lute, the lute representing Orpheus harp, which speak to the song s dark tones. The singer
s vocal lines are also fairly free, they have no set beat, meter, or phrase pattern. This, therefore,
creates the sense of a monologue or soliloquy, an actor s expression of inner emotion.
Monteverdi, like other Baroque composers, frequently used word painting. The opening words,
You are dead, repeated and culminating in You have left me forevermore, never to return, and I
remain, are song in a stretched out, long and slow fashion, but as the verse continues, intensity
and volume is increased to result in basically an outburst by the words, ed io rimango, or and I
remain. The free beat and meter of the vocals allows for the singer to illustrate the emotion of the
text through the speed in which the words are sung and the intensity of each word. More
traditional word painting is used in the sense that there is a low tone on abissi or abysses in order
to depict the deepness and descending nature of the underworld. Another strategic low note is
placed on morte to symbolize death and depression. Very high tones are used on the words stelle
and sole

Why Do People Commit Crime
Longman dictionary defines crime as an offence that is punishable by law . As BBC Bitesize 2017
describes, doing something wrong is different than committing a crime. For example lying is not
considered as a crime but it is a wrong act that people carry out without getting punished. But why
do people commit crime? Some criminologists believe that people commit crime because it is in
their nature. It has been proved that some people are more likely to commit crime than others due
to the circumstances that they grow up under. According to BBC Bitesize people with anger issues
have a higher possibility of committing a crime. Generally poverty, low self esteem, drug and
alcohol are known as the main causes of crime all around the world.... Show more content on

Children in these families are at higher risk of committing crime than others. On 13/3/2012
government published Social Justice: Transforming lives which explained government s plans
for changing the lives of who have been struggling with poverty. The government has identified
120,000 families whose lives are chaotic and troubled. These families have caused 9 billion
pounds damage. This is not a huge amount money in contrast to the effects of poverty on
children s lives. Because children s lives get ruined due to poverty and no amount of money can
fix that. The program which the government aimed to perform suggested that vulnerable parents
that need support must be identified and helped from the early days of their children s lives.
Children have the right to grow up in a supporting and loving atmosphere. Social Justice tries to
help society function better. The government admits that over the last decades has ignored the
roots of causes of poverty and this resulted in deepening social problems (GOV.UK, 2013). There
are some examples that demonstrate these social problems. One of these examples is Barry.
Barry s father was a drug dependent and his mother was an alcoholic. She divorced Barry s father
and married another man who physically abused Barry. Barry was drinking at the age of 11 and
using heroin at 15. He kept going to prison for using drugs and violence. When

Theme Of The Dead
A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man ends with a beginning. Stephen Dedalus, the protagonist,
emerges in the last pages of the last chapter as the I who will forge in the smithy of my soul the
uncreated conscience of my race . Stephen Dedalus is James Joyce s alter ego and this novel is a
representation of the various instances in Joyce s personal life. Similar to this novel, is The Dead,
the last story in the Dublinerscollection of short stories written by Joyce. There is a naturalistic
depiction of the middle class Irish life in and around the city of Dublin during the early twentieth
century. Gabriel Conroy, the protagonist in The Dead , is also a masque of Joyce s personality

The Implementation Of School Uniforms
Syanne Chhan

18 April 2016
Title of Your Report
A newly popular, controversial issue debated upon is the implementation of school uniforms. In the
United States, school uniforms have become more and more widespread. Although, some schools
disagree with the requirement of a school uniform and decide to require a school dress code
instead. The pros and cons of a school uniform are very controversial. Deciding whether a school
uniform should be implemented is not a black and white issue.
Arguments to support school uniforms state that school uniforms create an altogether better
environment for students. This better environment in turn, creates more learning and a greater
sense of focus from students. Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Cons, Pro) Requiring all students to wear the same uniform creates less diversity and causes
students to become more dedicated in their academics. By doing so, uniforms, take away the daily
fashion show and helps level the playing field a little bit with the haves and have nots, (Sweeney,
Emily).
Relating to the less diversity that uniforms create in schools, uniforms can decrease the formation
of cliques and gangs. Due to the fact that all students are dressed the same, members of a certain
gang can not be identified. Another positive about implementing uniforms is that students can be
easily identified and the identification of an intruder or outsider can take place easily.
Uniforms create pride and unity throughout a school. Some experts believe that uniforms help
students to, develop a stronger team mentality among the student body, (9 Serious). Uniforms can
in turn, increase school spirit. This is possible, again relating to, the students all wearing the same
or similar uniforms and decreasing the variety of outfits throughout a student body.
Some arguments that are seen as positives for enforcing school uniforms are controversial because
critics believe the arguments are not valid. Due to the fact that all students are dressed the same and
less variety of outfits are prevalent, critics state that school uniforms deny students the ability of self
expression. Critics, argue that kids

Woman At Point Zero and The Metamorphosis
Thesis Statement: The absence of mother in the protagonist s life in Woman At Point Zero and The
Metamorphosis contributes greatly to their alienation.
All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my Mother Abraham Lincoln. 1 Alienation: a
withdrawing or separation of a person, or a person s affections from an object or position of
former attachment4. Alienation is a key theme present in Woman at Point Zero2 and The
Metamorphosis3 by Nawaal El Saadawi and Franz Kafka respectively which is approached in
different ways. With the use of diction, imagery, contrast and symbolism, this is greatly seen
through the unusual bonds that Firdaus and Gregor share with their mothers throughout their lives.
Gregor from The Metamorphosis was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, when Gregor finally shows himself to the clerk and his family, she looked first with
hands clasped at his father, then took two steps toward Gregor and sank to the floor.. (87) The
imagery used here conveys the hostile and distant treatment Gregor receives from his family. The
connotation of the phrase sank to the floor is that of an emotional rejection and portrays how Mrs.
Samsa tries to run away from her son s reality. Through the contrast and imagery it is seen that
Gregor is no longer associated with his mother, who is firm on isolating herself from him. This
denial affects Gregor directly which explains why he underwent an alienation process.
Despite the fact that Gregor s mother could not bear to physically interact with him, she has
hopes of her son s comeback. When Grete suggests that the furniture be removed from his room,
she think[s] the best thing would be if we tried to keep his room exactly as it was before, so that
when he returns, he ll find everything unchanged, and he can forget what s happened (103). The
connotation of the words unchanged , returns and forget what s happened , suggests how she is
under the delusion that Gregor will come back. She does not readily want to accept the fact that
anything had happened to her dear son. She was, after all, his mother. In comparison to Firdaus it
can certainly be seen that he shared a strong relationship

In An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding by David...
In An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding by David Hume, the idea of miracles is
introduced. Hume s argument is that there is no rational reason for human beings to believe in
miracles, and that it is wrong to have miracles as the building blocks for religion. It is because the
general notion of miracles come from the statement of others who claim to have seen them, Hume
believes that there is no way to prove that those accounts are accurate, because they were not
experienced first hand. In order to believe a miracle, the evidence should be concrete, and
something irrefutable. When there is any sort of doubt to a miracle, Hume says that any evidence
that can be contrary to the proof of a miracle is merely evidence that the miracle did... Show more

In essence, any miracle that a Christian believes as fact, is something that a Muslim person would
consider hearsay, and vice versa. There is a constant battle between religions to disprove the other s
miracles, and Hume believes that none of these miracles occurred.
To Hume, it is never rational to believe in a miracle, as it is a violation of the laws of nature. For
a miracle to be believable, it must be based on testimony, and have a focus on something that can
be proven. This testimony must have evidence to justify that the miracle is in fact based on a
law of nature. For Hume, if a miracle is to be rationally accepted, the evidence to support it must
be balanced for the evidence in the natural world. Even if there is a conflicting piece of evidence
for the miracle, the conclusion must indicate that said miracle is a probable occurrence. With
that probable evidence must come absolute proof that the person who experienced the miracle
was in his or her right state of mind, was never diagnosed with a mental illness, and is a person
who can be trusted to give factual suggestions. Essentially, a miracle is possible because it is
conceivable, but in reality, there is no evidence to prove it. To properly establish his position on
miracles, Hume writes:
no testimony is sufficient to establish a miracle, unless the testimony be of such a kind, that its
falsehood would be more miraculous, than the fact, which it endeavours to establish

Sundiata An Epic Of Old Mali Summary
The sacred traditions, customs, and beliefs of ancient Mali is a story of epic proportions. To
retrieve the great lineage of the First Kings of Mali and learn the history behind certain rituals told
by an exquisite narrative that is perfectly woven together through different stories. The legend of
Sundiata stresses the importance of understanding and respecting one s history. In D. T. Niane s
Sundiata An Epic of Old Mali, the African history of Mali is presented through tribal customs,
honor, and jealousy between brothers.
Years and years ago in Africa, certain customs and traditions were set in place that governed
different regions and tribes. People in Mali had a unique tradition bearer. In the first chapter of
Niane s Sundiata An Epic of Old Mali, the reader is introduced to a griot who explains his role
and his ancestor s knowledge on ancient Mali. The art of eloquence has no secrets for us;
without us the names of kings would vanish into oblivion,... by the spoken word we bring to life
the deeds and exploits of kings for younger generations. (Page 1) In a humble but guaranteed
tone, the griot assures the reader that he is the keeper of all. His knowledge expands beyond what
is now and covers what has been. Everything that has occurred in the kingdom of Mali is
imperative for the griots to remember so the future kings would understand their heritage. They are
the overseers of knowledge and without them there is no way the kings of Mali would have
flourished.

Abstract
The unsolved murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald L. Goldman has become one of the
most discussed cases in all of history. Orenthal James O.J. Simpson, the formal professional
football player and the ex husband of Nicole Brown has always been the main suspect in this
case. Although found not guilty by the jury, many still believe he was the killer. In this paper, we
will discuss in great detail the events that took place at the time of the murder, as well as why or
why not O.J. is guilty. If O.J. isn t guilty, who could have been the mastermind behind these
murders?

Digital Disruption On Business Governance
ISYS2423 Individual Report
Name: Brian Au
Student Number: 3333937
Topic: Digital Disruption
Introduction
The business world continues to change dramatically as new technologies are invented.
Organizations and businesses are experiencing waves of technological change and innovation and
the process. Thus, management strategies of the organizations have to be altered to match the new
technologies if businesses are to remain competitive and active in the market place. Digital
disruption can be defined as the changes that take place when new technologies and business
models affect the promise of value to be delivered by existing goods and services (McQuivey 2015).
Change experienced in information and communication technology cannot be assumed as this
greatly affects business governance and business models. It is indisputable that business and
organizations are facing imminent and major digital disruptions and it is important for each
organization to understand the issues raised by digital disruption to be able to develop specific,
pragmatic, and proportional responses (Deloitte 2015). This research seeks to show how digital
disruption impacts business governance and how it opens unprecedented business opportunities and
possibilities. The report shows how the innovations accompanying digital disruption changes
economies and markets and how they reinvent relationships between organizations, suppliers and
customers.

What Are Death Camps Like In The Holocaust
Death Camps Have you ever wondered what the death camps were like in the holocaust? When
all of the jews and enemies suffered at the camps. They starved, beating, worked to death, and
killed. The holocaust was a awful time for jews and the enemies. Families were split apart and
never seen again, men worked hard labor in the camps, mothers lost their children from deaths or
just taking away. You were probably wondering what they did at the death camps and what
happened in the camps? There were six major death camps, Aishwitz, Birkenav, Chelmna, Sobibor,
Treblinka, and Warsaw. Jewsweren t the only victims in the camps, there were also Gypsy people,
and enemies. Only 7,650 jews survived when the camps closed, and hundreds of millions died a

Ethical Dilemmas In Citizenfour
In the film Citizenfour, we are reminded of the atrocities that ensued from the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
It created a ripple effect within how our nation conducts itself in regards to national security.
Paranoia is pervasive due to the threat of another potential act of terrorism. However, the paranoia
has gone too far. George W. Bush, in response to 9/11, signs the U.S.A. patriot act. Throughout the
N.S.A. s history, it has never been collecting as much data as it has today. Data sent out from

arguing against the crimes Snowden committed. However, it is more important to observe the
results the crime produced, rather than looking only at the act of the crime itself. Thus, the crimes
committed by US government agencies are of greater concern than those perpetrated by Snowden
because the US is in a far greater position of authority, power, and control. The aspect of control is
critical in understanding the reasons behind the N.S.A. s motivations. On the N.S.A. website, their

common law which is derived from custom and judicial precedent. No matter how meticulously
drafted, all contracts will contain implied terms. These terms will not be expressly written in to
a contract but arise in the absence of stipulation to the contrary . However, in contracts of
affreightment ruled by The Hague or Hague Visby Rules, the extent and utilisation of some of
these common law implied obligations will be altered leading to a restriction in the express

Diego VelГЎzquez s Las Meninas
Las Meninas by Diego VelГЎzquez is depicted as a group portrait of Spanish King Philip IV (8

s painting techniques that can be recognized by dramatic mood, rich color and extreme contrast
between light and dark. It is absolutely extraordinary and implies influences VelГЎzquez has had,
especially Flemish Baroque realism. VelГЎzquez had a deeper ambition in his mind when creating

While these costs have been rising relative to sales, the company believes that its future success
will be a result of its increased knowledge in effectively and efficiently generating traffic. As
illustrated in Exhibit 6, quarterly revenues increased significantly throughout 2004, while traffic
acquisition costs as a percentage of revenues began to decline.
In addition, the financial statements demonstrate that liquidity remains strong. The horizontal
balance sheet illustrates that cash and cash equivalents rose 639% over the three year period
beginning with fiscal year 2002. Furthermore, short term investments increased 1839% over the

These measures are important for a variety of reasons. As Google attempts to become the front

Abstract Mobile marketing can be made more personalized through Mobile Personalized Marketing
(MPM). Customers now expect content to be more personalized and relevant, and marketing
technology has risen to meet the challenges. Due to the ubiquity, interactivity and localization of
mobile devices, the customer contextual information ((i.e) the environment where a customer is
located) identifies the needs of customer and offer product services by understanding the customer s
preferences. Existing work focused on contexts of mobile users and their activities for better
predicting customer preferences. In existing, only limited numbers of dimensions are considered to
predict the user preferences. It cannot precisely predict about people s daily activities, which could
be extremely difficult due to the inherent randomness of human behavior. The proposed work
focuses on the number of dimension combination to be increased for each event with respect to
context and action rule of a user. User clustering is constructed and similarities between the users
are also evaluated for prediction of mobile behaviors with considerations of user relation.

Homemade Spaghetti Sauce Is Cheaper From Scratch Or From A...
As a frugal cook, I often make things from scratch rather than buying a mix or packaged food
item. This works well in many cases, but in others, it s actually cheaper to buy the pre packaged
item. Recently, I decided to look at whether spaghetti sauce is cheaper from scratch or from a
can. Canned vs. Homemade Spaghetti Sauce: Price Looking at price alone, it s actually an easy
call. At Winco Foods, I bought 26.5 ounce can of Del Monte Mushroom Spaghetti Sauce for 78
cents. At most stores, in fact, I can find canned spaghetti sauce for one dollar or less per can. For
comparison purposes, I also purchased one 14 ounce can and one 8 ounce can of tomato sauce,
and one four ounce can of mushrooms (stems and pieces). This came to over a dollar and that
doesn t even include the onions, herbs and spices that I already had at home. In terms of price
alone, the canned spaghetti sauce is obviously the better buy. But for me, there s more to it than
that. Canned vs. Homemade Spaghetti Sauce: Taste and appearance Do my family and I actually
prefer the canned sauce or the homemade sauce? Based on taste and appearance, I would favor the
homemade sauce. The canned sauce is overly sweet, and the mushrooms in the mushroom sauce are
nearly invisible they must be finely minced (probably leftover bits from something else).
Homemade sauce has tasty chunks and pieces of mushrooms, and I control the herbs and spices,
adjusting them to my family s taste. Canned vs. Homemade

displaying the forms narrative and cinematography techniques. However, Blackmail also mimics
prominent features associated with German Expressionism and Soviet Montage, such as mise en
scene, dramatic lighting and shadows. In one scene in Blackmail, Hitchcock manipulates the use
of shadows when an Artist, sexually assaults a young woman called Alice. He stands in his room
after being refused a kiss, coated in the shadows of the set looming over his face. The prominent
use of shadows, create a visually uneasy atmosphere and convey a narrative without dialogue.
Hitchcock s use of shadow manipulation is comparable to the importance of shadows in many
famous German Expressionist films, Nosferatu (1922) and The Cabinet of Dr Caligari (1920).
Hitchcock himself stated that he had acquired a strong German influence by working at the UFA
studios in Berlin . Therefore, it can be argued that Hollywood cinema does not have a definitive
history. The examples Bordwell and Thompson use in Film History: An Introduction supports the
perspective within one form of history, Hollywood cinema. However, it is evident that some films
which fit perfectly within the Hollywood cinema definition, include traits of German
Expressionism. The film history is blurred and not definitive or exclusive to one

Indian Gaming Benefits
There are many ways Indian Gaming effects local and regional economies. It can be argued that
it has been very beneficial. It can also be argued that it has been a detriment. Since 1988, when
the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act was passed, it has been providing a means of income for the
tribes that participate. Indian gaming is beneficial to tribes and surrounding communities because
it creates economic stability for the tribes, provides well paying jobs, and economic benefits for
surrounding communities and the state. Indian gaming has created wealth for some tribes, but for
most tribes it has made them economically stable. Part of the reason for success in Indian gaming
was the route most tribes took. By starting conservatively and using temporary buildings, in some
cases, tribes were able to smartly and carefully begin in the gaming industry (Akee, Spilde, and
Taylor 196). Not all tribes use gaming as their primary source of income, but it is another revenue
source that makes things stable. Some tribes have become very wealthy due to having an advantage
of being located next to large populations. Most tribes do not have this advantage but do well in self
sustainment.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Medieval Religion Of Islam
During the 16th century, Christianity experienced a reformation in arguably one of the most
defining moments in its history, the church was splintered and it was seen that priests and
pastures should have more independent power, the reform was carried by spreading the holy
bibles word and making people read the words literally to see the religion more for what it is.
This action helped to kick start the modern era we now live in by abandoning the worst qualities
of Christianity and also its traditions. Many people believe this is the path the medieval religion of

Such will be their degradation in the world, and in the Hereafter theirs will be an awful doom in
other words this verse calls for the mass extermination or genocide of non Muslims and non
believers, how can you then call Islam a religion of peace? There are hundreds of other verses and
extracts of which I could highlight however I think it will be more beneficial to point out the major
misconceptions of Islam and also the best way of going about a reformation.
Following on from my previous points, another catastrophic problem with Islam is the fact that
it attracts a very large number of extremists. Actually according to all of the major intelligence
services across the world, 15 25% of total Muslims are radical, that means there are 225000000
people dedicated to destroying our very way of life, this is a significantly larger number than
any other religion. You may then say that is still not a large enough percentage to represent 1.5
billion Muslims, however it really does not matter about the so called peaceful majority. If we
look back at history, the Nazi party was a minority however they managed to kill over 6 million
Jews in a horrific genocide, here the peaceful majority did not matter. The communist regime was
coordinated by a minority; however they killed in excess of 50 million people yet again

Ethanol Pros And Cons
Fuel prices seem to be the subject that always makes headlines on a regular basis since the United
States is the biggest consumer of fossil fuel in the world. The Central Intelligence Agency reported
that in 2015 alone, the United States consumed over 19 million barrels of refined petroleum
products per day. The data suggests that Americans consumed almost 5 million barrels more than
China and India, the two most populous countries on earth. (Central Intelligence Agency, n.d.) High
energy consumption forces Americans to rely on foreign fuel sources since domestic fuel supplies
are simply not enough to satisfy the thirst. Due to this very reason, the U.S. is often subject to
unpredictable fuel prices and fuel shortage scare. It also has to cope with the rise in emission that
contributes directly to climate change, another hot topic of the 21st century. Enter ethanol, an
alcohol addition to gasoline that promises to reduce fuel prices, stretch fuel supplies, and solve the
global warmingdilemma. Ethanol, however, has not lived up to its reputation. In fact, it has fallen
short on many occasions and become a subject of controversy.
On the surface, ethanol is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

invested in corn based ethanol for more than 30 years. During this period, it has provided corn

energy independence (Pear, 2012). The incentives are undeniably attractive that many farmers have
converted their crops to grow corn to supply ethanol plants for the lucrative profits on every
taxpayer s nickel and dime. Farm subsidies shield taxpayers from seeing the true cost of ethanol,
without it, the price per gallon would be greatly inflated and become

The Persian Gulf War And The Arab War
Persian Gulf War A brief history of the middle east and the nation of Iraq prior to the Persian Gulf
War will help explain why the Persian Gulf War was viewed as necessary by the allied countries.
The formation of a coalition of countries, the use of innovative military equipment, and strategic
military operations helped the allied forces secure victory in the Persian Gulf War. The effects of
this victory and subsequent conflict have changed our world as we know it. The Persian Gulf is
one of the oldest known trade routes in the world. Conflict is a major issue in that region also. Oil
is a part of the reason there is conflict. Great Britain used to control Iraqbecause of the oil in the
nation. Iraq has been a nation with copious amounts of border conflicts and wars. Saddam
Hussein, who supported the Ba athist party, assumed the role of president of Iraq in 1979. In
September 1980, Saddam Hussein ordered his troops into Iran oil fields, thus starting the Iraq Iran

Uses And Two Types Of Computer Image Adapting Software
Introduction
For facsimile production, Computer image adapting software can practically be divided into two
types. The first type (which includes programs such as Adobe Photoshop and the open source
Gimp) involves editing the images themselves, e.g., brightness and contrast manipulations, colour
corrections and noise removal. These programs support experienced tools for foreground
/background dissolution. For example, in the case of an inscription s image, ink traces can be
isolated from the background element in order to create a facsimile. In Figs. 1a b, a foreground

1.1Illustrator
Adobe Illustrator is an advanced vector based program. So, unlike Photoshop s pixel based layout,
it applies mathematical compositions to create vector graphics. In Illustrator, a line consists of two
dots linked by a computer algorithm, rather than just a line of pixels. As a result of this,
Illustrator is used generally to design logos or anything that may need to be printed or exhibited
at various sizes (Wood, 2016). A vector graphic will never drop its quality if it s scaled up or
down. Illustrator will also give you an improved print output since it s not resolution dependent. A
disadvantage of Illustrator is that it can t be used easily to alter images that are earlier created
since there are definite filters and image editing tools available to you (Wood, 2016).

Shakespeare s Macbeth-Tragic Hero
The Tragedy of Macbeth
The Tragedy of Macbeth is one of Shakespeare s greatest stagewrites. He shows Macbeth in many
different forms as a character. Macbeth is an ever changing character. Lady Macbeth adds on to this
changing personality. Shakespeare hits all these points in three categories, known as tragic hero,
dynamic character, round character.
Macbeth is best known as a tragic hero because he fits into all the elements of a tragic hero which
are, high social rank, tragic flaw, suffers complete ruin or death and faces downfall with courage
and dignity. Macbeth has a high social rank in the beginning of the play he started out as the
Thane of Glamis then was promoted to Thane of Cawdor by the king, and then he played fouly
for the crown. In this case the king sent Ross to deliver a message that said And for and earnest
of greater honor, he bade me, from him, call thee Thane of Cawdor. (1.3.104 105) To show him
playing fouly for the crown I go and it is done. The bell invites me. Hear it not, Duncan, for it is

Language in Dante’s Inferno Essay
Language in Dante s Inferno
What happens to language in hell? In Dante s Inferno, the journeying pilgrim explores language s
variations and nuances as he attempts to communicate with hell s pitiable and sordid inhabitants,
despite multiple language barriers and relentless cacophonies. Dante thematically unifies language s
inconsistencies in hell; that is, he associates the pilgrim s abortive attempts to communicate with
particular shades, and the incomprehensible languages and sounds that beleaguer him, with a
symbol from Christian mythology: the Tower of Babel. Dante juxtaposes this Christian myth with
Virgil s symbolic association with elevated speech in the Inferno. Virgil functions as the pilgrim s
guide and poetic inspiration, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, similar to his inhabitancy of Limbo, the first circle of hell, among those who are not
completely submerged in hell squalor, Likewise, the pilgrim s relationship to the languages of hell
s denizens represents the limits of language in hell, which Dante allegorizes in the Tower of Babel
myth. The myth shows that Nimrod, an architect, leads a massive effort to erect a colossal tower
that, according to Augustine, was intended not merely to touch heaven, but was a conspiracy to
usurp heaven (Dronke 39). Due to the excessive pride of Nimrod and his followers, God punishes
humans by destroying the tower. He then creates a number of languages that are not mutually
understood, which replace the single, universally understood language that exists before the tower
falls. Ultimately, Dante presents the multiplicity of languages, symbolized by the Tower of Babel
mythology, as having a dual legacy in hell: the various languages symbolize either power, when one
has control over languages, or alienation, when one cannot understand someone else s speech.
The pilgrim s encounter with Nimrod underscores language s ultimate detachment from successful
communication in hell because the architect is an enigmatic figure whose language epitomizes
incomprehensibility. Nimrod appears as a giant in the Inferno

SLAVERY
The burning issue that led to the disruption of the union, however, was the debate over the future of
slavery. That dispute led to secession, and secession brought about a war in which the Northern and
Western states and territories fought to preserve the Union, and the South fought to establish
Southern independence as a new confederation of states under its own constitution. In the late 18th
century, the abolitionist movement began in the north and the country began to divide over the
issue between north and south. In 1820, the Missouri Compromise banned slavery in all new
western territories, which southern states saw as a threat to the institution of slavery itself. With the

There were those in the antislavery movement that proposed legislation that would actually
purchase the freedom of slaves, as had happened in Europe. This sort of solution would have ended
slavery, but done it without the violence and death that the Civil War brought.
In contrast, the abolitionist movement sought to end slavery by any means necessary. So, famous
abolitionist John Brown resorted to theft, and to attacks on federal officers, in his effort to end
slavery. The radical abolitionists had no interested in ending slavery in a peaceful or legal way.
They wanted to end slavery at the point of the bayonet.
SECESIONISM
Before the Civil War, the country was dividing between north and south. Issues included States
Rights but centered mostly on the issue of slavery, which was prominent in the south but
increasingly banned by northern states.
With the election in 1860 of Abraham Lincoln, who ran on a message of anti slavery, the Southern
states felt it was only a matter of time before the institution was outlawed completely. South
Carolina became the first state to officially secede from the United States on December 20, 1860.
Four months later, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas and Louisiana seceded as well.

Effects Of Corporal Punishment
Corporal punishment affects a person s self esteem. Corporal punishment can negatively affect the
parent and the child, leaving them wondering the level of love from their parents. Corporal
punishment is illegal in some places, Some countries don t allow and even punish those who allow
corporal punishment. A parent could go to jail for spankingtheir child, hitting their children with
belts, flyswatters, paddles, ect. Corporal punishmentcan sometimes be very unnecessary, Not every
bad behavior needs to involve corporal punishment . It might be enough to have a serious
conversation with the child for them to see what they did wrong. When you start to give
teachers and other people who are not the parents the ability to punish a child so harshly, then
people can begin to abuse this power, and some usually do, in this society if you give an inch,
they take a mile There is no true way to determine if a child truly deserved the punishment or if it
was simply because a teacher was frustrated or fed up. That is because most of the time corporal
punishment is given based on opinion. Another big problem with corporal punishment by others
other than the parent is, what if the child gets injured, who is responsible? The parent, the person
who did the punishment, or no one? Another problem is, violence promotes more violence which

Native Language And American Culture
I was born and raised in America, my native language is English, I love rock music and American

of things. In America the majority speak English, guns are usually illegal, and busses usually
stop for you to get on so experiencing all these new things all at once was a bit overwhelming.
But, after getting used to it I expressed cultural relativism and accepted it and even thought it was

Classroom Behavior Management For African American Students
The number of students being diagnosed with or suspected of having an Emotional/Behavioral
disability is rapidly increasing, especially for African American students and in students at younger
ages. The U.S. Department of Education reports that an African American child is one and a half
times more likely to be placed in a classroom for children with emotional disturbances than a White
child (Children s Defense Fund, 2011). I have observed that many of these students are often
disengaged during literacy instruction. As a result, these students present literacy inadequacies in
addition to behavioral challenges. Incorporating culturally responsive pedagogy and interventions
across all content areas increases a student s ability to comprehend texts. In addition to
implementing research based academic instruction, cultural instructional modifications, adequate
teacher preparation for teaching EBD students, engaging classroom behaviormanagement for
teachers of students with Emotional/Behavioral disability, contribute to the literacy growth of EBD
students.
An Emotional/Behavioral Disability is defined by:
(1)the student exhibits social, emotional or behavioral functioning that so departs from generally
accepted, age appropriate ethnic or cultural norms that it adversely affects a child s academic
progress, social relationships, personal adjustment, classroom adjustment, self care or vocational
skills; (2) the behaviors are severe, chronic, and frequent, occur at school and at

themes of emptiness and the rising power of technology. The first appearance of rain is when the

When being medically treated there are multiple factors that go into finding the correct
treatment. The first, most common type of treatment, is light therapy. This consists of sitting a
few feet away from a light box that mimics natural sunlight (ВЁSeasonal Affective Disorder

this treatment can feel better in a matter of days, but are still encouraged to continue use until
spring time when natural light is more available (ВЁSeasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)
TopicВЁ). A second common treatment is medication. A doctor can prescribe a long lasting anti
depressant before one s symptoms begin to take root (ВЁSeasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)ВЁ).
By treating before the effects set in this is also a way of prevention. The third and final type of
treatment is talk therapy, or psychotherapy. By going to therapy sessions like this one will learn
how to cope with SAD. It is important to identify negative thoughts that might make a person feel
worse and helping them change their thought process to make them better (ВЁSeasonal Affective

Wuthering Heights lacks the class, refinement, and civilization of the latter. Despite the era s social
expectations of women as submissive and demure individuals expected to marry into a wealthy
family, Catherine rejects these very standards through her fierce lovefor Heathcliff... Show more

With this description, Catherine emphasizes the social values of the eighteenth century through her
willingness to defy authority and reason, pitting her against the strict societal expectations of the
era. However, the exposure of Catherine to Thrushcross Grange as she stays at the manor to
recover from the injury to her ankle, prompts a transformation in her romanticist character that
openly explores the cultural values of the Yorkshire Manors. The civility of the Lintons in
Thrushcross Grange transforms the once defiant and youthful Catherine into a mature and well
groomed lady that develops an internal conflict between her love for the well mannered and
wealthy Edgar Linton and the lowly Heathcliff. In BrontГ« s novel, Catherine emphasizes her
characterization in a scene where she laments this internal conflict saying, I ve no more business
to marry Edgar Linton than I have to be in heaven; and if the wicked man in there had not brought
Heathcliff so low, I shouldn t have thought of it. It would degrade me to marry Heathcliff now; so

Knowledge Vs Evils
Not all information is useful to all people. Some information can hinder a person s life. Depending
on the person and depending on the information, some knowledge is better left unknown. However,
for others, the same information that would have hindered one persons would be helpful to theirs.
One example of this information is the knowledge that evilis in the world. For some, knowing
about the evil in the world could scare them into not living a normal and happy life. For others
knowing about evil could make them aware they need to be alert to keep themselves safe from
danger. So, is it always better to know that there is evil or is it better to be oblivious to the evils of
the world? In the case of the story Little Red Cap by Jacob and... Show more content on

Little Red Cap then filled the wolf up with heavy stones so that when he woke up and tried to
run away he would die (Grimm 1083). This experience with the wolf showed Little Red Cap that
there were things in the world that would hurt her, and it also showed her she had to be more
careful about who she trusted with information about herself. The reader knows that this
knowledge Little Red Cap gained made her wiser when she claims As long as I live, I will never
leave the path and run off into the woods by myself (Grimm 1084). Little Red Cap could have
avoided this life threatening situation all together if she would have known about creatures like the
wolf who prey on innocent people like herself and her

Did you know that the size of a dictionary is one of the deciding factors on if a word should be
added into it? Adding words into an official dictionary such as Webster s is a multistep process.
The word must first be found within the same context across multiple texts. After a word is chosen
by that process it is turned into a citation. According the Merriam Webster s dictionarywebsite; this
citation process started in the 1800 s. There are now 15.7 million citation files stored in a
searchable database users call corpus . The editors then go through a few citations at a time. The
word must have enough citations to be definable, but not too many. Another consideration that
comes up is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The children succeeded in the end and prindel was added into the dictionary. If a word is said
enough times, it will be taken into consideration to become and official word. Even different age
groups have different speech patterns. Society uses language as one way to distinguish which
people belong to what groups. With the internet as popular as it is today, it was only a matter of
time before different sites developed different dialects. All websites with a chat feature have
dialects specific to them. This is most commonly found on social media. Popular websites like
Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr and Twitter are easiest to find examples of this. Looking at a
young person on Facebook and comparing their speech patterns to those of someone not much
older; their online speech patterns differ greatly. When profiles of the same age group are
compared, it becomes obvious who s who. The distinction grows as the user gets older. A similar
formula applies to Instagram Twitter and Tumblr, although it is more difficult to spot. A younger
person will post silly things and use a plethora of emoticons. Whereas someone older would post
more serious images with serious captions. Both age groups tend to use an excessive amount of
hashtags that relate to the media that they posted. For example, a younger person would post a
picture of their favorite character or pop star and tag it with the show that person is in. Along with
that, acronyms

  • 2. Baroque and Classical Wordpainting Techniques Renaissance and Baroque composers were faced with the task of creating complex pieces that express both human emotion and ideas. While this is primarily one of the main purposes of all forms of music itself, including genres today, in the 15th through 18th centuries, this was largely done through the musical composition of a piece rather than the lyrics. Composers utilized several different techniques in order to portray to the listener the purpose and meaning of the piece. Renaissance composers were focused on furthering the texts in music, fully developing the lyrics Therefore, the use of word painting, the musical representation of a literal word, phrase, or poetic image, is clearly seen in many pieces. Baroque music, with the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the piece Tu Se Morta this idea can be heard from the very first notes. After being told of Eurydice s death, Orpheus declares his emotions in Tu Se Morta. The piece begins an organ and a bass lute, the lute representing Orpheus harp, which speak to the song s dark tones. The singer s vocal lines are also fairly free, they have no set beat, meter, or phrase pattern. This, therefore, creates the sense of a monologue or soliloquy, an actor s expression of inner emotion. Monteverdi, like other Baroque composers, frequently used word painting. The opening words, You are dead, repeated and culminating in You have left me forevermore, never to return, and I remain, are song in a stretched out, long and slow fashion, but as the verse continues, intensity and volume is increased to result in basically an outburst by the words, ed io rimango, or and I remain. The free beat and meter of the vocals allows for the singer to illustrate the emotion of the text through the speed in which the words are sung and the intensity of each word. More traditional word painting is used in the sense that there is a low tone on abissi or abysses in order to depict the deepness and descending nature of the underworld. Another strategic low note is placed on morte to symbolize death and depression. Very high tones are used on the words stelle and sole ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Why Do People Commit Crime Longman dictionary defines crime as an offence that is punishable by law . As BBC Bitesize 2017 describes, doing something wrong is different than committing a crime. For example lying is not considered as a crime but it is a wrong act that people carry out without getting punished. But why do people commit crime? Some criminologists believe that people commit crime because it is in their nature. It has been proved that some people are more likely to commit crime than others due to the circumstances that they grow up under. According to BBC Bitesize people with anger issues have a higher possibility of committing a crime. Generally poverty, low self esteem, drug and alcohol are known as the main causes of crime all around the world.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Children in these families are at higher risk of committing crime than others. On 13/3/2012 government published Social Justice: Transforming lives which explained government s plans for changing the lives of who have been struggling with poverty. The government has identified 120,000 families whose lives are chaotic and troubled. These families have caused 9 billion pounds damage. This is not a huge amount money in contrast to the effects of poverty on children s lives. Because children s lives get ruined due to poverty and no amount of money can fix that. The program which the government aimed to perform suggested that vulnerable parents that need support must be identified and helped from the early days of their children s lives. Children have the right to grow up in a supporting and loving atmosphere. Social Justice tries to help society function better. The government admits that over the last decades has ignored the roots of causes of poverty and this resulted in deepening social problems (GOV.UK, 2013). There are some examples that demonstrate these social problems. One of these examples is Barry. Barry s father was a drug dependent and his mother was an alcoholic. She divorced Barry s father and married another man who physically abused Barry. Barry was drinking at the age of 11 and using heroin at 15. He kept going to prison for using drugs and violence. Similar to this novel, is The Dead, the last story in the Dublinerscollection of short stories written by Joyce. The Implementation Of School Uniforms Syanne Chhan Mrs. Gallos English III Honors 18 April 2016 Title of Your Report A newly popular, controversial issue debated upon is the implementation of school uniforms. In the United States, school uniforms have become more and more widespread. Although, some schools disagree with the requirement of a school uniform and decide to require a school dress code instead. The pros and cons of a school uniform are very controversial. Deciding whether a school uniform should be implemented is not a black and white issue. Arguments to support school uniforms state that school uniforms create an altogether better environment for students. This better environment in turn, creates more learning and a greater sense of focus from students. Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Cons, Pro) Requiring all students to wear the same uniform creates less diversity and causes students to become more dedicated in their academics. By doing so, uniforms, take away the daily fashion show and helps level the playing field a little bit with the haves and have nots, (Sweeney, Emily). Relating to the less diversity that uniforms create in schools, uniforms can decrease the formation of cliques and gangs. Due to the fact that all students are dressed the same, members of a certain gang can not be identified. Another positive about implementing uniforms is that students can be easily identified and the identification of an intruder or outsider can take place easily. Uniforms create pride and unity throughout a school. Some experts believe that uniforms help students to, develop a stronger team mentality among the student body, (9 Serious). Uniforms can in turn, increase school spirit. This is possible, again relating to, the students all wearing the same or similar uniforms and decreasing the variety of outfits throughout a student body. Some arguments that are seen as positives for enforcing school uniforms are controversial because critics believe the arguments are not valid. Due to the fact that all students are dressed the same and less variety of outfits are prevalent, critics state that school uniforms deny students the ability of self expression. Woman At Point Zero and The Metamorphosis Thesis Statement: The absence of mother in the protagonist s life in Woman At Point Zero and The Metamorphosis contributes greatly to their alienation. All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my Mother Abraham Lincoln. 1 Alienation: a withdrawing or separation of a person, or a person s affections from an object or position of former attachment4. Alienation is a key theme present in Woman at Point Zero2 and The Metamorphosis3 by Nawaal El Saadawi and Franz Kafka respectively which is approached in different ways. In addition, when Gregor finally shows himself to the clerk and his family, she looked first with hands clasped at his father, then took two steps toward Gregor and sank to the floor.. (87) The imagery used here conveys the hostile and distant treatment Gregor receives from his family. The connotation of the phrase sank to the floor is that of an emotional rejection and portrays how Mrs. Samsa tries to run away from her son s reality. Through the contrast and imagery it is seen that Gregor is no longer associated with his mother, who is firm on isolating herself from him. This denial affects Gregor directly which explains why he underwent an alienation process. Despite the fact that Gregor s mother could not bear to physically interact with him, she has hopes of her son s comeback. When Grete suggests that the furniture be removed from his room, she think[s] the best thing would be if we tried to keep his room exactly as it was before, so that when he returns, he ll find everything unchanged, and he can forget what s happened (103). The connotation of the words unchanged , returns and forget what s happened , suggests how she is under the delusion that Gregor will come back. She does not readily want to accept the fact that anything had happened to her dear son. She was, after all, his mother. • 7. In An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding by David... In An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding by David Hume, the idea of miracles is introduced. Hume s argument is that there is no rational reason for human beings to believe in miracles, and that it is wrong to have miracles as the building blocks for religion. It is because the general notion of miracles come from the statement of others who claim to have seen them, Hume believes that there is no way to prove that those accounts are accurate, because they were not experienced first hand. In order to believe a miracle, the evidence should be concrete, and something irrefutable. When there is any sort of doubt to a miracle, Hume says that any evidence that can be contrary to the proof of a miracle is merely evidence that the miracle did... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In essence, any miracle that a Christian believes as fact, is something that a Muslim person would consider hearsay, and vice versa. There is a constant battle between religions to disprove the other s miracles, and Hume believes that none of these miracles occurred. To Hume, it is never rational to believe in a miracle, as it is a violation of the laws of nature. For a miracle to be believable, it must be based on testimony, and have a focus on something that can be proven. This testimony must have evidence to justify that the miracle is in fact based on a law of nature. For Hume, if a miracle is to be rationally accepted, the evidence to support it must be balanced for the evidence in the natural world. Even if there is a conflicting piece of evidence for the miracle, the conclusion must indicate that said miracle is a probable occurrence. With that probable evidence must come absolute proof that the person who experienced the miracle was in his or her right state of mind, was never diagnosed with a mental illness, and is a person who can be trusted to give factual suggestions. Essentially, a miracle is possible because it is conceivable, but in reality, there is no evidence to prove it. To properly establish his position on miracles, Hume writes: no testimony is sufficient to establish a miracle, unless the testimony be of such a kind, that its falsehood would be more miraculous, than the fact, which it endeavours to establish (Hume, An Enquiry ... • 18. Homemade Spaghetti Sauce Is Cheaper From Scratch Or From A... As a frugal cook, I often make things from scratch rather than buying a mix or packaged food item. This works well in many cases, but in others, it s actually cheaper to buy the pre packaged item. Recently, I decided to look at whether spaghetti sauce is cheaper from scratch or from a can. Canned vs. Homemade Spaghetti Sauce: Price Looking at price alone, it s actually an easy call. At Winco Foods, I bought 26.5 ounce can of Del Monte Mushroom Spaghetti Sauce for 78 cents. At most stores, in fact, I can find canned spaghetti sauce for one dollar or less per can. For comparison purposes, I also purchased one 14 ounce can and one 8 ounce can of tomato sauce, and one four ounce can of mushrooms (stems and pieces). This came to over a dollar and that doesn t even include the onions, herbs and spices that I already had at home. In terms of price alone, the canned spaghetti sauce is obviously the better buy. But for me, there s more to it than that. Canned vs. Homemade Spaghetti Sauce: Taste and appearance Do my family and I actually prefer the canned sauce or the homemade sauce? Based on taste and appearance, I would favor the homemade sauce. The canned sauce is overly sweet, and the mushrooms in the mushroom sauce are nearly invisible they must be finely minced (probably leftover bits from something else). Homemade sauce has tasty chunks and pieces of mushrooms, and I control the herbs and spices, adjusting them to my family s taste. Canned vs. Homemade ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1929, Hitchcock released Blackmail, the first all talkie film from Great Britain. Although the film was not produced in Hollywood, it is still considered as Hollywood cinema as it exhibits the stylistic traits identified in The Classical Hollywood Cinema. These devices include linear timelines, unstable equilibriums, psychologically motivated characters, shot/reverse shot, continuity editing and three point lighting. Furthermore, this supports the perspective that there is a definitive history of Hollywood cinema. Blackmail fits within the time period of Hollywood cinema, whilst also displaying the forms narrative and cinematography techniques. However, Blackmail also mimics prominent features associated with German Expressionism and Soviet Montage, such as mise en scene, dramatic lighting and shadows. In one scene in Blackmail, Hitchcock manipulates the use of shadows when an Artist, sexually assaults a young woman called Alice. He stands in his room after being refused a kiss, coated in the shadows of the set looming over his face. The prominent use of shadows, create a visually uneasy atmosphere and convey a narrative without dialogue. Hitchcock s use of shadow manipulation is comparable to the importance of shadows in many famous German Expressionist films, Nosferatu (1922) and The Cabinet of Dr Caligari (1920). Hitchcock himself stated that he had acquired a strong German influence by working at the UFA studios in Berlin . Therefore, it can be argued that Hollywood cinema does not have a definitive history. • 29. Shakespeare s Macbeth-Tragic Hero The Tragedy of Macbeth The Tragedy of Macbeth is one of Shakespeare s greatest stagewrites. He shows Macbeth in many different forms as a character. Macbeth is an ever changing character. Lady Macbeth adds on to this changing personality. Shakespeare hits all these points in three categories, known as tragic hero, dynamic character, round character. Macbeth is best known as a tragic hero because he fits into all the elements of a tragic hero which are, high social rank, tragic flaw, suffers complete ruin or death and faces downfall with courage and dignity. Macbeth has a high social rank in the beginning of the play he started out as the Thane of Glamis then was promoted to Thane of Cawdor by the king, and then he played fouly for the crown. In this case the king sent Ross to deliver a message that said And for and earnest of greater honor, he bade me, from him, call thee Thane of Cawdor. • 31. Language in Dante’s Inferno Essay Language in Dante s Inferno What happens to language in hell? In Dante s Inferno, the journeying pilgrim explores language s variations and nuances as he attempts to communicate with hell s pitiable and sordid inhabitants, despite multiple language barriers and relentless cacophonies. Dante thematically unifies language s inconsistencies in hell; that is, he associates the pilgrim s abortive attempts to communicate with particular shades, and the incomprehensible languages and sounds that beleaguer him, with a symbol from Christian mythology: the Tower of Babel. Dante juxtaposes this Christian myth with Virgil s symbolic association with elevated speech in the Inferno. Virgil functions as the pilgrim s guide and poetic inspiration, ... Moreover, similar to his inhabitancy of Limbo, the first circle of hell, among those who are not completely submerged in hell squalor, Likewise, the pilgrim s relationship to the languages of hell s denizens represents the limits of language in hell, which Dante allegorizes in the Tower of Babel myth. The myth shows that Nimrod, an architect, leads a massive effort to erect a colossal tower that, according to Augustine, was intended not merely to touch heaven, but was a conspiracy to usurp heaven (Dronke 39). Due to the excessive pride of Nimrod and his followers, God punishes humans by destroying the tower. He then creates a number of languages that are not mutually understood, which replace the single, universally understood language that exists before the tower falls. Ultimately, Dante presents the multiplicity of languages, symbolized by the Tower of Babel mythology, as having a dual legacy in hell: the various languages symbolize either power, when one has control over languages, or alienation, when one cannot understand someone else s speech. The pilgrim s encounter with Nimrod underscores language s ultimate detachment from successful communication in hell because the architect is an enigmatic figure whose language epitomizes incomprehensibility. Nimrod appears as a giant in the Inferno ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That dispute led to secession, and secession brought about a war in which the Northern and Western states and territories fought to preserve the Union, and the South fought to establish Southern independence as a new confederation of states under its own constitution. In the late 18th century, the abolitionist movement began in the north and the country began to divide over the issue between north and south. In 1820, the Missouri Compromise banned slavery in all new western territories, which southern states saw as a threat to the institution of slavery itself. There were those in the antislavery movement that proposed legislation that would actually purchase the freedom of slaves, as had happened in Europe. This sort of solution would have ended slavery, but done it without the violence and death that the Civil War brought. In contrast, the abolitionist movement sought to end slavery by any means necessary. So, famous abolitionist John Brown resorted to theft, and to attacks on federal officers, in his effort to end slavery. The radical abolitionists had no interested in ending slavery in a peaceful or legal way. They wanted to end slavery at the point of the bayonet. Issues included States Rights but centered mostly on the issue of slavery, which was prominent in the south but increasingly banned by northern states. With the election in 1860 of Abraham Lincoln, who ran on a message of anti slavery, the Southern states felt it was only a matter of time before the institution was outlawed completely. South Carolina became the first state to officially secede from the United States on December 20, 1860. Four months later, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas and Louisiana seceded as well. • 33. Effects Of Corporal Punishment Corporal punishment affects a person s self esteem. Corporal punishment can negatively affect the parent and the child, leaving them wondering the level of love from their parents. Corporal punishment is illegal in some places, Some countries don t allow and even punish those who allow corporal punishment. A parent could go to jail for spankingtheir child, hitting their children with belts, flyswatters, paddles, ect. Corporal punishmentcan sometimes be very unnecessary, Not every bad behavior needs to involve corporal punishment . It might be enough to have a serious conversation with the child for them to see what they did wrong. When you start to give teachers and other people who are not the parents the ability to punish a child so harshly, then people can begin to abuse this power, and some usually do, in this society if you give an inch, they take a mile There is no true way to determine if a child truly deserved the punishment or if it was simply because a teacher was frustrated or fed up. That is because most of the time corporal punishment is given based on opinion. Another big problem with corporal punishment by others other than the parent is, what if the child gets injured, who is responsible? The parent, the person who did the punishment, or no one? Another problem is, violence promotes more violence which is bad, violence can get kids in more trouble in a different way with someone else, they will think what they re doing is perfectly fine because their ... Native Language And American Culture I was born and raised in America, my native language is English, I love rock music and American food; people often think I am white because of the way I look and act. However, my ethnicity is Hispanic American. My parents were born and raised in El Salvador, I have only been there once when I was younger and I remember it like it was yesterday. I was hit with a bit of culture shock because there were things I was not used to. As a kid, my Spanish was not that great so being in a country where everyone speaks perfect Spanish and little to no English was difficult. If we wanted to ride the bus it would not come to a full stop instead you would have to hop on while someone helped you up. People often walked around with huge guns for protection and every restaurant, even the fast food places, had a doorman with a gun. I was only there for two weeks and the first few days I showed a bit of ethnocentrism because I was not used to those kind of things. In America the majority speak English, guns are usually illegal, and busses usually stop for you to get on so experiencing all these new things all at once was a bit overwhelming. But, after getting used to it I expressed cultural relativism and accepted it and even thought it was cool. • 37. Classroom Behavior Management For African American Students The number of students being diagnosed with or suspected of having an Emotional/Behavioral disability is rapidly increasing, especially for African American students and in students at younger ages. The U.S. Department of Education reports that an African American child is one and a half times more likely to be placed in a classroom for children with emotional disturbances than a White child (Children s Defense Fund, 2011). I have observed that many of these students are often disengaged during literacy instruction. As a result, these students present literacy inadequacies in addition to behavioral challenges. Incorporating culturally responsive pedagogy and interventions across all content areas increases a student s ability to comprehend texts. In addition to implementing research based academic instruction, cultural instructional modifications, adequate teacher preparation for teaching EBD students, engaging classroom behaviormanagement for teachers of students with Emotional/Behavioral disability, contribute to the literacy growth of EBD students. An Emotional/Behavioral Disability is defined by: (1)the student exhibits social, emotional or behavioral functioning that so departs from generally accepted, age appropriate ethnic or cultural norms that it adversely affects a child s academic progress, social relationships, personal adjustment, classroom adjustment, self care or vocational skills; (2) the behaviors are severe, chronic, and frequent, occur at school and at ... Light therapy is usually the first line of treatment for all cases of SAD. People using this treatment can feel better in a matter of days, but are still encouraged to continue use until spring time when natural light is more available (ВЁSeasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) TopicВЁ). A second common treatment is medication. A doctor can prescribe a long lasting anti depressant before one s symptoms begin to take root (ВЁSeasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)ВЁ). Catherine Earnshaw Essay As represented in Catherine Earnshaw s early characterization, the social and cultural ideals of the time period are heavily reinforced through Catherine s defiant individualism and love for the initially lowly Heathcliff, which contrasts with the civility and propriety of the people around her. Despite being set solely in the Yorkshire Moors in England, the delicate social hierarchy of class is clearly seen in the residents of both Wuthering Heightsand Thrushcross Grange, in which Wuthering Heights lacks the class, refinement, and civilization of the latter. With this description, Catherine emphasizes the social values of the eighteenth century through her willingness to defy authority and reason, pitting her against the strict societal expectations of the era.
