The I Reasonably Enjoyed Reading The Loudest Duck
I reasonably enjoyed reading The Loudest Duck; it was very informative and gave me very different
points of view. It hit the ground running with a statistic that as of 2010 there were 13 women and 4
blacks that were CEO s for Fortune 500 companies (Liswood 3). These proportions are drastically
lower than what it would be if it followed the population of the U.S. Looking at this simply, it shows
that females and blacks (along with other non dominant groups) are disadvantaged in some way along
the path to becoming a CEO of a great company. This is in agreement with the PowerPoint from the
Africa and Diaspora event, which showed that blacks and other races were being disproportionally put
imprisoned and killed. The Loudest Duck describes the differences between the dominant group and
the non dominant group through the symbolism of the dominant group as an elephant and the non
dominant group as a mouse. The idea is that the elephant doesn t need to pay attention to what the
mouse does or care about its thoughts, but the mouse needs to learn the elephant s behavior and the
way it reacts in order to survive being around the elephant (Liswood 31 41). This was a very clear way
of explaining the difference and I think it fits the US on many different ways. At a national level many
citizens of the US have very little knowledge of what happens in other countries, other than what the
media tells us about what the US is doing, but citizens of other countries actually pay

Dorothea Mackellar’s My Country Essay
MY COUNTRY: ANALYSIS Dorothea Mackellar s My Country is a poem expressing Mackellar s
deep passion and love for her country, Australia. The whole poem s intention seems to evoke the sense
of praising for the country and express Mackellar s deep relationship and passion with her land.
Mackellar attains this response from the audience by using numerous language techniques such as;
Juxtaposition, personification, sound patterns including alliteration and assonance, imagery, and
paradox. The use of first person throughout the whole poem suggests that the theme of this poem has
been evoked by personal experience. Mackellar introduces the idea of Australia s distinctiveness
firstly in the opening two stanzas, by juxtoposising Australia s ... Show more content on

Imagery is used consistently right through the poem to evoke sensory experiences and to endorse the
theme. For instance: A stark white ring barked forest the sapphire misted mountains the hot gold lush
of noon and many more. All of these appeal to the readers senses and places brilliant visual image(s)
in our minds by illuminating the various features of the country, from the perspective of the poems
persona. This is attained using; adjectives, the sapphire misted mountains¬¬¬ , which gives us a
picture of mountains with a bluish haze embracing it, this image would thus give an impression of a
composed environment and evoke a sense of tranquillity. Additionally by using sapphire to illustrate
the mist surrounding the mountains we get a sense of Australia s uniqueness as sapphire is a rare gem.
Imagery is also displayed through a metaphor used to appeal to the sense of hearing. For example: the
drumming of an army, the steady soaking rain . Here Mackellar depicts the rain as an army and allows
us not only to visualize but get a sense of the sound of the rain, which is presented through the
adjective drumming . This line also presents to us the intensity of the rain again through the adjectives
drumming, steady and soaking . We can presume from the numerous emphasized lines indicating
Australia s uniqueness, that the distinctiveness of Australia is the main reason for the persona s
perplexing attachment and love for her country.

Imposing Congressional Term Limits
Imposing Congressional term limits for the members of the congress would be a terrific idea. This is
because if the Congress knows that their position in Congress is limited, they will get things done.
Mark Levin, author of The Liberty Amendment stated that no person may serve more than 12 years as
a member of congress. 12 years is enough for Congress to pass new laws. Now if the propose law has
not been approved by the other members of the Congress by the time their term is over, then the next
person that steps up can continue to pursue the law. No members should stay longer than they are
supposed to. The term limit is necessary because there are other people in power that has been there
for more than a decade. It s true that some of them

Analyzing Esoteric Alchemy And The Alchemist
Alchemy began in Hellenistic Egypt particularly in Alexandria. Alexandria was founded in 332 B.C,
and quickly became the heartbeat of Hellenistic cosmopolitanism. The Art itself had both exoteric and
esoteric purposes, which were centered on the transmutation of base metals into silver and gold.
Exoterically speaking it took the form of crafting matter into items of value. However, as a natural
development the material means and ends of the Art were often intermixed with the immaterial world.
Both were interdependent and intermixed with each other in various ways. Historical analyses of
exoteric and esoteric Alchemy suggest that it is impossible to fully separate the two because they are
sympathetic to each other. Simply put, whether or not the Alchemist understands esoteric immaterial
factors of the practice still have an impact. The purpose of this paper is to analyze esoteric Alchemy
and to discuss what the immaterial means and ends of the Work could have meant to the Alchemist,
and concludes that the Art was a work of crafting the soul. The approach used in this paper will first
examine Hellenistic cosmopolitanism through the idea of the supernatural, the soul, and virtue, and
then I will discuss Alchemy as understood by from and close to the Hermetic tradition.
Many Alchemists had an understanding of the natural and supernatural that parallels antique thought
as a whole. Common in the culture was a desire to understand, communicate, and develop virtue.

The World is Flat -Chapters 7 8 Essay example
The Right Stuff
Constant change and a flat, global competitive market landscape were described by Thomas Friedman,
author of The World is Flat, as triple convergence and was a result of the ten flatteners. Friedman also
stated that in Globalization 1.0, countries had to think globally. In Globalization 2.0, companies had to
think globally to thrive, or at least survive. In Globalization 3.0, individuals have to think globally to
thrive, or at least survive. (Friedman, 2007) The concept of needing individuals to think globally and
thrive in the market led Friedman to travel and report on various educational cultures across the world.

The first ability required in the right stuff is learning how to learn. Friedman discussed the ability to
learn as constant absorption, and self teaching techniques that manifest crystallized intelligence and
enhance the ability of the individual to new innovation. (Friedman, 2007) Life learning is essential to
being competitive individually in the new flat world. Individuals that love learning and are motivated
to search for data or self learn will be stewards of their own compounding education. (Friedman,
2007)
Navigation, is the second required critical skill set outlined by Friedman s right stuff theory.
Information sourcing is readily available on the web. As internet availability has increased social
thinking that the source of data that flattens the world is credible and factual. However, students and
individuals need to remember that filtering of open source information is critical to understanding the
difference between information, facts and wisdom. (Friedman, 2007) The youth of the future will need
to be able to discern the difference between information and carry forward credible information and
spin it into a new innovation.
Passion and curiosity is a third ability or personality quotient of the right stuff noted by Friedman is
created by culture and an individual s innate desire to improve or self actualize. Passion and the

Differences Between Dauntless Book And Book
It is always quite exciting when a novel is adapted to be shown as a movie. I m usually in the habit of
comparing and analyzing if the movie version was faithful to the book. Many times the movie director
and screenwriters have to decide whether to include certain scenes or not. This aspect is controlled by
the rating they want the movie to end up with, depending on their target audience. I found a number of
differences between Roth s novel and the movie. In my opinion the general imagery of the movie
matched the one of the book. For example, I imagined the choosing ceremony to look like just like it
did in the movie. Also, Tris house, school, neighborhood, the Erudite headquarters and the dauntless
train matched the vision in my head. One thing that didn t match in my opinion was the Dauntless
headquarters. I imagined the chasm to be more dramatic and the fighting ring and dormitories were
portrayed differently than I had imagined. Some of the events in the movie were also different than in
the novel. In the novel Peter stabs Edward in the eye with a butter knife, but in the movie this scene
does not appear at all. In the novel, one of the new dauntless initiates falls to her death on the first day
train jump, in the movie this does not happen. Visiting day at Dauntless headquarters is a scene ...

It was filled with excitement and a unique exhilaration that can only be felt when you practice such an
extreme act as zip lining so high through abandoned and destroyed buildings. I lived the scene through
the book as well as in the movie. The moviemakers did a fantastic job with the scene. The
cinematography of the movie seemed to stand out during Tris and Four s fear landscapes. The angles
and effects made me feel like I was right there with them going through their fears as well. The rest of
the movie wasn t memorable when it comes to camera angles and special

The Novel Fifth Business
In the novel Fifth Business, women played an important role that impacted Dunstan emotionally and
spiritually. From a young age, Dunstan s mother, Mrs. Ramsay, placed fear and isolation in his heart
and was the reason he became emotionally distanced from women. He turned towards Mrs. Dempster
as she provided him the love and affection that he wasn t able to receive from his mother. She also
sparked his interest in hagiography and to pursue his study in inner spirituality. As he comes of age
and meets Diana, she was able to introduce him to a new world while teaching him new experiences.
However, their relationship was short lived due to the treatment and mental damage he received from
his mother when he was younger. While women like Mrs. Ramsay affected Dunstan negatively, others
such as Diana and Mrs. Dempster were able to heal him and provide a greater growth for Dunstan
spiritually and emotionally.
Dunstan first got involved with Mrs. Dempster during the snowball incident where the snowball aimed
at him by the town bully instead hits the pregnant Mary Dempster, precipitating the premature birth of
her son and her descent into mental illness. (Bowers). Dunstan believed that by moving out of the
snowball s path, that he broke apart Mary Dempster s life and so he carries this guilt for the rest of his
life. By being caring towards Mrs. Dempster and helping her out in any way possible, it was his way
of repaying Percy s sins. Mrs. Dempster performed 3 miracles that sparked

The Dehumanization Of Women In Joseph Heller s Catch-22
During the early 1900 s up until recent history, women have been treated through the lenses of men.
Heller s satirical Catch 22 tries to clean this lense, by overly showing the dehumanization of women.
Through sex, and objectification, Heller is able to point out the problems in our own society. At the
end of the novel, Heller contrasts these persistent themes with the men s humanity, and he is able to
make us want change in our society. Through prostitution, and the general use of women for sex,
Heller paints a vivid reflection of society. The maid with the lime panties is one of Heller s most
obvious commentaries. Her entire role in the book is to be of service to the men. Her allure stemmed
from her accessibility; like Mt. Everest, she was there, and the men climbed on top of her each time
they felt the urge. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Besides the objectification that comes with prostitution, Heller finds more clever ways to subliminally
push this on us. Everybody falls in love, it is human nature, but when Nately falls in love with his
acquaintance he is made to look like a fool. People do not really understand how he could fall in love
with someone who to them is an object. Captain Black even pays for sex with her just out of spite for
Nately. At the end of the novel we see that Nately s girlfriend is more than just an object, and even
capable of love. Most readers don t catch this, but Heller makes her human to show that these women
have more to them. The reader only gets a glimpse of these women, and from the perspective of men
at war. Heller makes Nately s girlfriend a person at the end of the novel to show the reader that behind
her job, she is a real person. Another low key way in which Heller portrays his message is with the use
of names. Heller keeps almost all of the women in Rome nameless because it portrays that they are not

What Was The Importance Of Farming In The Civil War
An Agrarian society acknowledges many other means of livelihood and work habits, but they stress
the importance of agriculture and farming. They see their rural society as superior to the urban society;
the independent farmer over the paid worker. They see farming as a way of life that can shape ideal
social values. On the other hand, an industrial society is one that is driven by the use of technology to
make mass production possible. They use external energy sources, such as fossil fuels, to speed up the
rate and scale of production. The industrial society provides jobs for those that financially benefit from
it. By 1830, 2 very separate cultures were forming in America. The South contained agrarians while
the north grew industrially. The industrialists hired politicians to go pro industrial expansion and ...

An overwhelming amount of immigrants, roughly 7 out of every 8, settled in the North rather than the
South; mainly because transportation was easier in the North, due to all the railroad tracks that were
built. Only one tenth of Southerners lived in urban areas and transportation between cities was
difficult, except by water. Only 35% of the nation s train tracks were located in the South (Elliott).
Also, In 1860, the Northern Industries were booming while the South s agricultural economy was
beginning to stall. The clash between the 2 very separate cultures became the Civil War. The war
began when the confederates (North) bombarded the Union (South) soldiers at Fort Sumter, South
Carolina on April 12, 1861. The southerners made huge profits from slaves and cotton so they fought
to keep them. The Northerners did not use slaves because they didn t need them for their economy, so
they fought in the war to free them. The war lasted for 4 years and More than half a million people

the hallways at Southern Illinois University in Evansville. Bartlett explains, the professor was fired for
plagiarism. Dussold claims that was not the real reason to why he was fired. He believes it was a

Mr. Dussold, Peyla, and university investigation. Now he s on a mission to restore his reputation.
Bartlett explains, Mr. Dussold was offered several positions, but turned them down. He pursued his

Summary Of Jane Goodall s Memoir With Phillip Berman,...
Coming to Terms in Faith Jane Goodall s memoir with Phillip Berman, Reason for Hope talks about
how a women s journey to come to terms with faith through the experiences in Tanzania. Her journey
toward this goal started from her religious childhood, which led her with chimpanzees at the Gombe
Forest in Tanzania. By believing in her faith into traveling to Tanzania, Jane saw the good in
chimpanzees and humans and developed faith in them. When Jane was growing up, she grew up in a
religious family. From that she always been fascinated to become a martyr, (Goodall 126) which is
when a person chooses to die instead of denying a strongly held belief. During World War II, she hated
Joseph Stalin because he was controlling the communist country of Russia. She wanted to support the
Christians that are in Russia. Jane explains in her memoir Reasons for Hope, This daydreaming made
me come to terms with human brutality, suffering, courage idealism and even faith. (Goodall 26). This
childhood dream of being in the star role helped her forget her worries about what she is going to do
in the future. This is amazing for Jane because not many people at her age that have the courage to
step up for what they believe that is right. Although Ms. Goodall realized the human brutality and
suffering of humanity that also included faith, this knowledge benefited her when she set foot in the
African continent of Tanzania. When Jane Goodall arrived in the Gombe Forest in Tanzania, she was

Hallmark Aficionados In The Film, When Calls The Heart
If you are a fan of Hallmark s When Calls the Heart, or if you have seen a couple recent Hallmark
films in which a snobby, rich guy never seems to win the heart of his presumed intended, you may be
quite familiar with the masterful, young actor, Marcus Rosner. Though he seems to be typecast as the
bad guy, or the guy who never gets the girl, there is no denying that this dashing and delightfully

Even when I was auditioning, I was very impressed with the script. While the story might be typical,
the approach is anything but typical. I would call it a story with many layers.
An underlying theme in the film is that of being environmentally friendly. The hip approach today is
that of restaurants serving better foods and using environmentally sound methods. Fast food places are
consistently in competition with the places that serve better quality, fresher foods. And all too often,
those fast food places lose the battle.

Emotional Intelligence, Emotion And Social Work
Emotional Intelligence: Relevance to Social Work
Introduction
In the article Emotional intelligence, emotion and social work , the author Morrison (2007), stated
emotional intelligence (EI) is the missing ingredient that separate the average from top management or
performance (p1). Demonstrating a level of emotional competence in social work will a help a social
worker to perform at a higher success level in the quality work they do or in the information they
collect from someone who is seeking help than a social worker who lacks emotional competence.
They have the ability to make a positive impact above and beyond their competent colleagues
(Morrison, p3). As cited by Morrison (2007), Salovey and Mayer (1990) was first to come with ...

Morrison (2007) believed that it is important for social workers to exhibit emotional intelligence
because it sets them apart from others that lacks the trait; displaying a level of unconscious
competence, expertise and effortlessness (p3). He talked about four different domains that the EI
model measures. According to the article, there are two interpersonal and two intrapersonal domains.
The interpersonal domain gives a measure of self awareness and self management skills, while the
intra personal domain measures empathy and relationship skills (Morrison, p7). It is great for social
workers to be in tune with their own emotions and learn how to cope with their lives in order to make
a difference in a client s life. Morrison (2007) also stated that having an understanding and handling
one s own and other s emotions is a critical aspect at every stage of the social work task: engagement,
assessment, observation, decision making, planning and intervention (p15).
The second article, Impact of a College Freshman Social and Emotional Learning Curriculum on
Student Learning Outcomes was a study constructed by various widener professors, Wang et al.
(2007), investigating the impact of implementing a social and emotional learning curriculum for
college freshman on student learning outcomes, including social and emotional competence and
academic performance (p1). Based on the findings of Wang et al. (2012), they concluded that

Essay on Queen Elizabeth
The last queen of the Tudor dynasty, Queen Elizabeth I proved to be on of the most celebrated, and
controversial leaders in English history. Raised in a neglectful home, and shadowed by her mother s
reputation, Elizabeth did not have the royal treatment that her siblings received. From her birth, she
was a disappointment, as a child she was intelligent, yet unnoticed, and the road to her 1558 1603
reign was troubled. Elizabeth was born on September 7, 1533. To the disappointment of King Henry
VII, her father, she was a presumptive heir to the throne. Elizabeth s older sister, Mary, would have

Mary?s determination was to destroy the Protestant faith in England. One of her acts as queen was

diminishing rapidly, although Mary recognized Elizabeth as heir to the throne. It turned out Mary was
not pregnant, and she became very ill. On November 17, 1558 she died. On January 15, 1559
Elizabeth became queen at the age of twenty five. A light snow fell on the packed London streets as
the new queen was celebrated. The queen repeatedly told her people ?I thank you with all my heart.?
After the coronation ceremony, Elizabeth sat down to a lavish ten hour banquet. Many challenged the
queen?s right to absolute power. John Knox stated ?Women are unsuited to rule.? Elizabeth made it
abundantly clear she would not stand for disobedience. During her reign, Elizabeth enjoyed charming
men into agreeing with her views. To insure that her statesmen and courtiers did not take their
positions for granted, she alternated between outburst of royal displeasure and displays of humor and
warmth. Elizabeth was considered by most to be a gorgeous queen, and her beauty was unmatched.

Wal Mart has also come across logistics problems due to poor roads and the scarcity of delivery
trucks. Yet another problem was the culture clashes between the Arkansas executive and the Mexican
managers. Some of these problems were solved by trial and error, but the emergence of the North
American Free Trade Agreement in 1994 helped solve most of the problems. Among other things,
NAFTA reduced tariffs on American goods sold to Mexico from 10 percent to 3 percent. Prior to
NAFTA, Wal Mart was not much of a threat to companies like Comerci, Gigante, and Soriana, Mexico
s top retailers. But once the agreement was signed, the barriers fell and Wal Mart was on a level
playing field with its competitors which was all it needed to become number one. NAFTA encouraged
Mexico to improve its transportation infrastructure, thus helping to solve Wal Mart s logistical
problems. The signing of NAFTA also opened wider gates to foreign investment in Mexico. Wal Mart
was paying huge import fees on goods shipped to Mexican areas like Europe and Asia. Foreign
companies knew that if they built manufacturing plants in Mexico, they could keep costs low with
Mexican labor but ship to NAFTA s free trade zone, Mexico, the United States, or Canada. As
companies began to build manufacturing plants, in Mexico, Wal Mart could buy these products
without paying the high import tariffs. An example of this tactic is Sony s flat screen television line,
Wega. Sam s Clubs in Mexico imported

Taco Bell Case Summary
Taco Bell was successful in running a media campaign that effectively dealt with the crisis situation of
being sued for misrepresenting the quality of beef they used. However, even though the Beasley Allen
law firm dropped the class action lawsuit, Taco Bell executives were furious over the very allegation
and attempt to tarnish their reputation (Forbes, 2011). In their resentment towards the frivolous
lawsuit, Taco Bell began another ad campaign. The purpose of this campaign was to get Beasley Allen
s law firm to make an apology (Forbes, 2011). Similar to their initial campaign, Taco Bell took out ads
in large papers such as the Wall Street Journal and New York Times (Forbes, 2011). Using the same
technique of a catchy punch line, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lastly, Tack Bell stated their company ALWAYS uses 100% USDA inspected premium beef (Forbes,
2011). The ad goes on to state that their ingredients are, and have always been on the Taco Bell
website to see and the Beasley Allen law firm could have simply asked before jumping the gun
initiating a class action lawsuit (Forbes, 2011). Taking full advantage of media platforms, the president
of Taco Bell posted another video, which reiterates the information in the ads (Forbes, 2011). Because
Taco Bell made it very clear they used 88% beef, many people became curious what exactly the other
12% was (Fountain, 2014). Taco Bell ensured the public through their website that all the ingredients
were safe and approved by the FDA (Fountain, 2014). They also stated the ingredients that make up
the remaining 12% may have strange names, but that they are all common ingredients used in
everyday foods purchased at the grocery store (Fountain, 2014). To help the public better understand
these ingredients, Taco Bell also provides a brief description in laymen terms as to what each one is
(Fountain, 2014). To help emphasize this point even more, a chemist from Duke University posted a
blog explaining that although these ingredients may be hard to pronounce, they are in fact actually
food and that he himself would have no issue eating them (Fountain, 2014). Taco Bell has used
different media platforms to combat any potential risks to their franchise and have done this quite
well. There

Cuiousity and a Sense of Adventure Drove the Atomic Age
The Atomic Age was driven by curiosity and a sense of adventure. As some of the most well thinkers
of the day continued with passion about physics, their self confident in peeling the layers of the
proverbial scientific onion led to severe unintended consequences that dramatically impacted the lives
of billions of people. Moreover, complacency fuelled by arrogance resulted in the betrayal of
compassion and principled action, ultimately leading to the sacrifice of millions to pay the debt of a
few. Atomic energy re invigorated technological and scientific purpose of the early 20th century.
Augmenting knowledge through scientific inquiry motivated researchers and academics to collaborate
in labs and conferences in developing an emerging field. As discoveries dotted the path to scientific
self indulgence, the purported results of the research which was often purely coincidental, was
promoted as yielding untold benefits to society. Medicine would be radically transformed and the
scarcity of energy to fuel engines of economic growth would be a thing of the past (De Groot, Steg
Poortinga, 2013). The marvels of the atomic age, it seemed, would become the Holy Grail that would
breathe renewed life to human progress. Despite leaps in theoretical knowledge, the development of
the Atomic Age also transitioned into a more nefarious pre occupation for some. As successive wars
raged across the Atlantic and consumed much of Europe, the development of a weapon became a
central focus

Natural And Man Made Disasters
This paper will discuss the differences between two different natural and man made disasters. The
disasters that will be discussed are Hurricane Katrina and the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
Additionally, this paper will look into the specifics of what constitutes a natural and man made
disaster. Specifically, this paper will look into each disaster to include the events surrounding them;
the risks; and the assessments. Furthermore, this paper will look at some of the details of each disaster
and why there was so much devastation. Finally, this paper will look at a few similarities, but mainly
the differences between the two, and how the effects of each still linger today.
Natural Disaster
Natural disasters are anything from floods, earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, or
anything else nature could develop that causes massive amounts of damage, or cause a large losses of
life. Such events are not anything caused because of human beings, but only by the actions of
atmospheric conditions, or due to the changes of continental drifts that these disasters occur.
Technology has come a long way since the early days before the industrial revolution where
predictions can be made and warnings can be issued. This helps reduce the amount of possible loss of
lives that would occur in 21st century. However, that is not what happened during Hurricane Katrina, a
category 5 Hurricane.

Number System into Hexadecimal Number System . The objective of my lesson was to make students
know how to convert an Octal Number into Binary Number System on the board and its practical
implementation. To achieve these objectives I started my lesson with a question answer session to
revise their previous concepts. After the recap session I divided my class into groups of 4 students
each and said them to identify Hexadecimal and Binary digits. Then through exposition I explained
the current topic how to convert a hexadecimal number into binary on the board. For more detail
explanation I solved three related examples on the board interactively. In these examples I involved
students to help me in solving these examples. This was their learning towards the application of
current topics properties. Later I assigned the conversion task to the groups. Each group did its work
and it was the responsibility of the group leader to make sure participation of each member of the
group. The groups prepared their presentation and to give everyone an equal chance presentation was

these flights are made available till the date of departure (Koenigsberg, Muller and Vicassim, 2008).
All bookings for easyJet are made straight from either telephones or the internet; this made it very
easy to incorporate the web into its central booking system. By achieving this, there were no possible
channel conflicts with other intermediaries, for example with travel agents Easyjet s website illustrates
their pricing policy as being based on supply and demand, and prices usually increase as seats are sold
on every flight. Basically the sooner a person books, the cheaper the flight ticket would be . The web
also states that the low cost scheme of easyJet is not tickets, no ties to other networks, no travel agents
and no on flight meals. (easyJet plc., 2010). A pin code is also given for each customer s booking that
is done on the website which is given to travellers upon arrival at the airport.

To gain a competitive advantage, most companies tend to implement a brand strategy. What makes
easyJet stand out amongst its competitors is their image of a low budget airline and no frills services;
this brand strategy is simple but strong. EasyJets whole company is recognised by their unique orange

Marshall McLuhan, a Canadian philosopher of communication theory, developed the concept of the
term Global Village in two of his earliest books The Gutenberg Galaxy, in 1962, and Understanding
Media: The Extension of Man, in 1964.
He defined global village as a small village where electronic media made it possible, and how the
information flows from parts of the world at the same time (Mcluhan, 1964).
No matter how far or near of anything happen around the globe, people can see and hear of what have

According to Fraser, Nance (1992, p. 110), Public Sphere is a theater in modern societies in which
political participation is enacted through the medium of talk . Participatory democracy is a core
concept of the public sphere. It is where people come to together to form a public opinion, and that it
affects to political action.
The only legitimate governments are governments that have its laws and policies shifted by the public
opinion of the public sphere (Benhabib, 1992). Democratic governance rests on the capacity of and
opportunity for citizens to engage in enlightened debate (Hauser, 1998, p.83).
In addition, both concepts of the public sphere and the global village have put a concentration and

According to Habermas (1962), the public sphere was set up and happened in many locations such as

Newspaper has been a main tool to use in the public sphere.

Some of the underlying issues with fertility treatments are that some couples have to repeat the whole

James Weldon Johnson Mother To Son Comparison
The poems The Gift to Sing by James Weldon Johnson and Mother to Son by Langston Hughes
deliver a similar theme in their poems: hope can be found in the darkest of times. They both use their
tone to convey the message of hope, however, some differences can be found in their manner of
writing and diction. Throughout both poems, the tone of the author can be interpreted as hopeful.
However, differences linger within the readers heads while reading the poems. In the poem The Gift to
Sing , the author shows in a variety of ways that he is writing in a hopeful tone. The singing in the
poem represents the hope the author has during the darkest of times. Therefore, Johnson makes a
metaphorical connection between singing and hope. By singing, he overcomes the gloom and pierces
the darkness. This is a metaphor connecting singing and hope, for he is hinting that so long as he has
hope, he can get through the darkest of times. In the poem, the author has written, But, oh, I have a
magic way / To turn the gloom to cheerful day (3 4). The author has a magical way to make his day
better and to escape the dreary worries of his day. The description of gloom to cheerful also shows that
if he hopes, he will have a better day. By having a hopeful attitude, Johnson can have a better day. ...

Conditions Of The Skeletal System
Conditions of the Skeletal System: Osteogenesis Imperfecta
Carlisa Thornhill
Everglades University
Conditions of the Skeletal System: Osteogenesis Imperfecta
The skeletal system is one of the body s most important support systems. When anomalies occur
within the bone structure, the entire body suffers. One such anomaly is the condition known as
osteogenesis imperfecta or brittle bone disease. Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a hereditary, genetic
disorder of the bones and connective tissues that is most known for causing fragile, brittle bones
which can break hundreds of times in one s lifetime. This rare disease occurs in approximately 1 in
every 12,000 15,000 births (Knipe et al., n.d.) and affects between 20,000 and 50,000 people here in
the United States (Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation, 2015).
The majority of osteogenesis imperfecta cases are caused by a mutation in the genetic coding of type 1
collagen (Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation, 2015). More specifically, the mutation is found in the
left handed helix formed by [the] intertwining of pro alpha1 or pro alpha2 chains of the type 1
collagen fibers [or COL 1A1 and COL 1A2] (Rush et al., 2015). Collagen is a major protein of the
body s connective tissue. Type I collagen fibers are found in the bones, organ capsules, fascia, cornea,
sclera, tendons, meninges, and dermis (Rush et al., 2015).

The Critique Of Culture In The Sand Child By Tahar Ben...
Culture is an amalgamation of shared beliefs, values, and norms within a society. Thus, culture has the
ability to influence the way in which one learns, lives, and behaves. When the cultural values and
practices are negative, the fate of a person growing up in this situation can be critically affected. In
The Sand Child, Tahar Ben Jelloun exhibits how the cultural values of the Moroccan society such as
the inheritance law and the social practices such as the blatant rejection and demeaning treatment of
women in society have affected Ahmed, the protagonist, and provide an insight into Jelloun s critique
of those practices. The codification of misogynistic rules that solely pertain to leveling up the man s

They were right. In this way they rid themselves of misfortune. It was an act of wisdom, a brief pain,
an implacable logic (Jelloun 99). Ahmed s father comes to him in a dream and tells him that he did not
have the courage to proceed with this practice himself, but admires the fathers that were able to follow
through with it. He specifically mentions how Ahmed was saved from this torturous procedure, as his
father chose him to take on the male lead, while on the other hand his sisters were ignored and were
figuratively dead to the father. Although, this cultural practice did not directly affect Ahmed, nor did it
affect his sisters, it affected other female babies in this society, while also subconsciously affecting
Ahmed. This sense of betrayal and guilt has affected Ahmed s life as it is something that will always
follow him because he feels as though he betrayed his father by not following through with his wishes
and becoming the man he had always wished for. The author may have put this section in because he
wanted to demonstrate the guilt that is subconsciously put onto women. All aspects of a woman s life
are criticized merely for having female body parts and being seen as the weaker gender. These cultural
practices are seen as a normal, wise act done in order to keep the honor in the family. Thus,

(Page 3: Scene Little girl greeting great grandmother at the u pick it stand...grandmother has buckets
in her hand.)
Grandma! Anna exclaimed when she saw her great grandmother gathering berry buckets at the u
pick
farm stand. How s my little Anna? Grandma asked as Anna hugged her. Great! Anna smiled.
Here s you a bucket to pick strawberries in, one for me and one for your Mother. We d better get
started before it gets too hot.
I m ready! beamed Anna.
(Page 4: Scene...the three are picking strawberries in a row of strawberries)
Grandma, Momma and Anna walked to the flag that signaled where to begin picking in the long row
of bright red ripe strawberries and began to pick.
These sure are nice big berries, mused Grandma.
They taste good too, said Anna as she bit into one.
They are a lot bigger than when I was your age, Anna
(Page 5: Scene loading crates of berries onto train cars)
You had strawberries when you were a little girl?! Considered, Anna.
Why, yes! We did have strawberries when I was a girl. In fact, we picked strawberries for the trains,
Grandma answered.
The trains? Anna was puzz1ed, Why would trains need strawberries? Anna inquired.
Everyone grew a patch of strawberries and would hire people to he1p pick them to take to market.
We had to work fast and gentle so as not to bruise the berries and get them to the broker as quick as
we could after picking so that they could get to the consumer while they were still good.

  • 2. The I Reasonably Enjoyed Reading The Loudest Duck I reasonably enjoyed reading The Loudest Duck; it was very informative and gave me very different points of view. It hit the ground running with a statistic that as of 2010 there were 13 women and 4 blacks that were CEO s for Fortune 500 companies (Liswood 3). These proportions are drastically lower than what it would be if it followed the population of the U.S. Looking at this simply, it shows that females and blacks (along with other non dominant groups) are disadvantaged in some way along the path to becoming a CEO of a great company. This is in agreement with the PowerPoint from the Africa and Diaspora event, which showed that blacks and other races were being disproportionally put imprisoned and killed. The Loudest Duck describes the differences between the dominant group and the non dominant group through the symbolism of the dominant group as an elephant and the non dominant group as a mouse. The idea is that the elephant doesn t need to pay attention to what the mouse does or care about its thoughts, but the mouse needs to learn the elephant s behavior and the way it reacts in order to survive being around the elephant (Liswood 31 41). This was a very clear way of explaining the difference and I think it fits the US on many different ways. At a national level many citizens of the US have very little knowledge of what happens in other countries, other than what the media tells us about what the US is doing, but citizens of other countries actually pay ... • 3. Dorothea Mackellar’s My Country Essay MY COUNTRY: ANALYSIS Dorothea Mackellar s My Country is a poem expressing Mackellar s deep passion and love for her country, Australia. The whole poem s intention seems to evoke the sense of praising for the country and express Mackellar s deep relationship and passion with her land. Mackellar attains this response from the audience by using numerous language techniques such as; Juxtaposition, personification, sound patterns including alliteration and assonance, imagery, and paradox. The use of first person throughout the whole poem suggests that the theme of this poem has been evoked by personal experience. Mackellar introduces the idea of Australia s distinctiveness firstly in the opening two stanzas, by juxtoposising Australia s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Imagery is used consistently right through the poem to evoke sensory experiences and to endorse the theme. For instance: A stark white ring barked forest the sapphire misted mountains the hot gold lush of noon and many more. All of these appeal to the readers senses and places brilliant visual image(s) in our minds by illuminating the various features of the country, from the perspective of the poems persona. This is attained using; adjectives, the sapphire misted mountains¬¬¬ , which gives us a picture of mountains with a bluish haze embracing it, this image would thus give an impression of a composed environment and evoke a sense of tranquillity. Additionally by using sapphire to illustrate the mist surrounding the mountains we get a sense of Australia s uniqueness as sapphire is a rare gem. Imagery is also displayed through a metaphor used to appeal to the sense of hearing. For example: the drumming of an army, the steady soaking rain . Here Mackellar depicts the rain as an army and allows us not only to visualize but get a sense of the sound of the rain, which is presented through the adjective drumming . This line also presents to us the intensity of the rain again through the adjectives drumming, steady and soaking . We can presume from the numerous emphasized lines indicating Australia s uniqueness, that the distinctiveness of Australia is the main reason for the persona s perplexing attachment and love for her country. ... • 4. Imposing Congressional Term Limits Imposing Congressional term limits for the members of the congress would be a terrific idea. This is because if the Congress knows that their position in Congress is limited, they will get things done. Mark Levin, author of The Liberty Amendment stated that no person may serve more than 12 years as a member of congress. 12 years is enough for Congress to pass new laws. Now if the propose law has not been approved by the other members of the Congress by the time their term is over, then the next person that steps up can continue to pursue the law. No members should stay longer than they are supposed to. The term limit is necessary because there are other people in power that has been there for more than a decade. It s true that some of them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analyzing Esoteric Alchemy And The Alchemist Alchemy began in Hellenistic Egypt particularly in Alexandria. Alexandria was founded in 332 B.C, and quickly became the heartbeat of Hellenistic cosmopolitanism. The Art itself had both exoteric and esoteric purposes, which were centered on the transmutation of base metals into silver and gold. Exoterically speaking it took the form of crafting matter into items of value. However, as a natural development the material means and ends of the Art were often intermixed with the immaterial world. Both were interdependent and intermixed with each other in various ways. Historical analyses of exoteric and esoteric Alchemy suggest that it is impossible to fully separate the two because they are sympathetic to each other. Simply put, whether or not the Alchemist understands esoteric immaterial factors of the practice still have an impact. The purpose of this paper is to analyze esoteric Alchemy and to discuss what the immaterial means and ends of the Work could have meant to the Alchemist, and concludes that the Art was a work of crafting the soul. The approach used in this paper will first examine Hellenistic cosmopolitanism through the idea of the supernatural, the soul, and virtue, and then I will discuss Alchemy as understood by from and close to the Hermetic tradition. Many Alchemists had an understanding of the natural and supernatural that parallels antique thought as a whole. Common in the culture was a desire to understand, communicate, and develop virtue. The World is Flat -Chapters 7 8 Essay example The Right Stuff Constant change and a flat, global competitive market landscape were described by Thomas Friedman, author of The World is Flat, as triple convergence and was a result of the ten flatteners. Friedman also stated that in Globalization 1.0, countries had to think globally. In Globalization 2.0, companies had to think globally to thrive, or at least survive. In Globalization 3.0, individuals have to think globally to thrive, or at least survive. • 7. Differences Between Dauntless Book And Book It is always quite exciting when a novel is adapted to be shown as a movie. I m usually in the habit of comparing and analyzing if the movie version was faithful to the book. Many times the movie director and screenwriters have to decide whether to include certain scenes or not. This aspect is controlled by the rating they want the movie to end up with, depending on their target audience. I found a number of differences between Roth s novel and the movie. In my opinion the general imagery of the movie matched the one of the book. For example, I imagined the choosing ceremony to look like just like it did in the movie. Also, Tris house, school, neighborhood, the Erudite headquarters and the dauntless train matched the vision in my head. One thing that didn t match in my opinion was the Dauntless headquarters. I imagined the chasm to be more dramatic and the fighting ring and dormitories were portrayed differently than I had imagined. Some of the events in the movie were also different than in the novel. In the novel Peter stabs Edward in the eye with a butter knife, but in the movie this scene does not appear at all. In the novel, one of the new dauntless initiates falls to her death on the first day train jump, in the movie this does not happen. Visiting day at Dauntless headquarters is a scene ... From a young age, Dunstan s mother, Mrs. Ramsay, placed fear and isolation in his heart and was the reason he became emotionally distanced from women. He turned towards Mrs. Dempster as she provided him the love and affection that he wasn t able to receive from his mother. She also sparked his interest in hagiography and to pursue his study in inner spirituality. As he comes of age and meets Diana, she was able to introduce him to a new world while teaching him new experiences. However, their relationship was short lived due to the treatment and mental damage he received from his mother when he was younger. While women like Mrs. Ramsay affected Dunstan negatively, others such as Diana and Mrs. Dempster were able to heal him and provide a greater growth for Dunstan spiritually and emotionally. Dunstan first got involved with Mrs. Dempster during the snowball incident where the snowball aimed at him by the town bully instead hits the pregnant Mary Dempster, precipitating the premature birth of her son and her descent into mental illness. • 9. The Dehumanization Of Women In Joseph Heller s Catch-22 During the early 1900 s up until recent history, women have been treated through the lenses of men. Heller s satirical Catch 22 tries to clean this lense, by overly showing the dehumanization of women. Through sex, and objectification, Heller is able to point out the problems in our own society. At the end of the novel, Heller contrasts these persistent themes with the men s humanity, and he is able to make us want change in our society. Through prostitution, and the general use of women for sex, Heller paints a vivid reflection of society. The maid with the lime panties is one of Heller s most obvious commentaries. Her entire role in the book is to be of service to the men. Her allure stemmed from her accessibility; like Mt. Everest, she was there, and the men climbed on top of her each time they felt the urge. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Besides the objectification that comes with prostitution, Heller finds more clever ways to subliminally push this on us. At the end of the novel we see that Nately s girlfriend is more than just an object, and even capable of love. Most readers don t catch this, but Heller makes her human to show that these women have more to them. The reader only gets a glimpse of these women, and from the perspective of men at war. Heller makes Nately s girlfriend a person at the end of the novel to show the reader that behind her job, she is a real person. James Weldon Johnson Mother To Son Comparison The poems The Gift to Sing by James Weldon Johnson and Mother to Son by Langston Hughes deliver a similar theme in their poems: hope can be found in the darkest of times. They both use their tone to convey the message of hope, however, some differences can be found in their manner of writing and diction. Throughout both poems, the tone of the author can be interpreted as hopeful. However, differences linger within the readers heads while reading the poems. Ahmed s father comes to him in a dream and tells him that he did not have the courage to proceed with this practice himself, but admires the fathers that were able to follow through with it. He specifically mentions how Ahmed was saved from this torturous procedure, as his father chose him to take on the male lead, while on the other hand his sisters were ignored and were figuratively dead to the father. Although, this cultural practice did not directly affect Ahmed, nor did it affect his sisters, it affected other female babies in this society, while also subconsciously affecting Ahmed. This sense of betrayal and guilt has affected Ahmed s life as it is something that will always follow him because he feels as though he betrayed his father by not following through with his wishes and becoming the man he had always wished for. The author may have put this section in because he wanted to demonstrate the guilt that is subconsciously put onto women.
