The Disease Of Gluten Intolerance
People with schizophrenia can be highly vulnerable due to the debilitating symptoms of their
illness, the discrimination they experience from medical providers, and their high rates of disease
comorbidities, like gluten intolerance, that may further debilitate functioning if left untreated. Since
the 1950s, higher rates of gluten intolerance have been observed in people with schizophrenia
compared to the general population. Diseases of gluten intolerance generally consist of either
celiac disease (CD) or non celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS). CD occurs in about 1% of the
general population and is a hereditary, autoimmune response triggered by the ingestion of proteins
known as gluten that are found in common grains like wheat, barley, and rye (Cascella et al.,
2011). CD is typically diagnosed by confirming the presence of gluten antibodies in the blood,
testing for the presence of certain immune system genes known as Human Leukocyte Antigens
(HLAs), and confirmation of atrophied villi cells in the small intestine ( How Is Celiac Diagnosed?
2016). For CD patients, atrophy of the small intestine leads to nutrient malabsorption and an
increased permeability of both the intestinal wall and potentially the blood brain barrier, which may
contribute to extra intestinal immune responses that cause the immune system to attack other
organs and tissues (Cascella, 2011). In addition to CD, Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (NCGS) is a
form of gluten intolerance where atrophied villi are

The Disconnect Between The Church s Religion And Its...
The false dichotomy that I have chosen to discuss is the current disconnect between the church s
religion and its relationship with a concentration on its influence within a lost world. The
disconnect between these two dichotomies seems to be that one side has become comfortable in
their current state of salvation, and has fallen into a tradition based worship that seemingly lacks
intimacy, influence, and power. While the other side can at times, seem to be unorthodox,
potentially lacking order and reasoning. In discussing this topic, my hope is to accurately portray
both sides for what they are, and why I believe the church s that are found more on the relationship
principle align more with scripture s depiction of Christ s bride. The Merriam Webster dictionary
defines religionas the belief of a godor a group of gods while also stating that religion is an
organized system of beliefs, ceremonies, and rules to worship a god or a group of gods.[1]
When a group of people gather and base their worship off of things done in the past and base
their worship on a belief rather than a knowledge or understanding of the one true God, it
becomes legalistic and rigid, lacking in passion and devotion. This belief creates a going through
the motions attitude which results in a body of believers lacking power to change their own
behaviors while also creating the depiction of a loveless, lifeless, self centered church that is saved
based off of their rituals and church

Reflection About Moving To University
Walking in to University on the first day was intimidating as well as exciting. Surrounded by big
tall buildings and thousands of fellow students. The University of Edinburgh was not what I
expected. From being nervous to talk to someone new, to now being able to talk to anyone in my
year. I will reflect on my experiences from the past semester and how I thoughtabout things such as
dress code, attitudes. Challenges I faced, successes I accomplished and the future ahead.
I expected university to be people smartly dressed, have a hard working mentality and have an
enthusiastic passion to learn. There are very few people I have seen make that true. As I come in
to university I see people in casual jeans, shirts and even joggers. Even though in the article from
(Smith, 2016), shows that by coming dressed smarter for work improves results and productivity, I
am not sure why my fellow students are not keen about their learning as much as me.
In lectures, tutorials and topic seminars, I see people constantly using social media, playing games
and chatting amongst each other rather than concentrating and focusing on the lecturer and
understanding the material being taught. When it comes to passion to learn, people talk about not
going to lectures, tutorials and sometimes missing assigned online material which will benefit
them. This attitude of learning and dressing smart may just be the type of family and upbringing I
have been brought up with, but I did not expect such low levels of discipline in such a highly
respected university. This really surprised me and has changed the way I look at university.
Looking back at my first semester at the university, I think how surprisingly quickly these weeks
have gone by and we are nearly at the penultimate week of our learning before our winter exams
start. Some of the best successes were from my group presentations, becoming a programme
representative as well as my economics results.
My main challenges these past 12 weeks were to adapt to a different style of learning and having
to make time at home to also study and revise while balancing this with my job and helping run the
family business. Coming in to university every week thinking its only week 3, week 4 and now its

Animal Farm Propaganda
Animal Farm: Timeless Propaganda
Upon Animal Farm s first publication in 1945, it quickly became a success and is now regarded
as one of the best allegories of Soviet totalitarianism ever written. All of its characters provided a
representation of Soviet Russia s political figures, with its main character, Napoleon, illustrating
Joseph Stalin and a corrupt totalitarian rule. The book parodies Stalin s rise to power and his
eventual total control of nearly every aspect of personal and private behavior. Animal Farm s
message does not strictly coincide to the events of the 1930 s, however. In Animal Farm, three
specific tactics of propaganda arise which are visible today. These propaganda devices are fear,
deceit, and isolationism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shortly after their birth, Napoleon took the young puppies from the farm dogs in order to raise
them personally. He completely isolated them from the rest of the animals in order to mold them
into his own instruments of political oppression. Ahmadinejad does the same through strict
isolation via information control. Any newspapers which post information deemed unfit for the
Iranian public are quickly suspended. The journalists who wrote these articles are often arrested and
imprisoned. Iran also has placed several restrictions on high speed internet in an effort to filter out
Western influence. Iranian connection speeds were reduced to 128KB per second, making it
impossible to receive fast broadband packages. This makes it impossible to receive any western
movies, music, or television. They claim it as an attempt to protect Iranian youth, but quite plainly,
it s nothing more than a way of restricting any outside ideas and further strengthening their own.
Animal Farm is a good example of how timeless certain techniques of propaganda can be. Even
after almost 70 years, Animal Farm s message of propaganda based totalitarianism still carry on.
Current Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad closely parallels Stalin s methods of propaganda.
Both have methods rooted in three main devices: fear, deceit, and isolationism. Through these
devices, Ahmadinejad is able to mold Iranian ideas to fit his own. He sways public opinion and

Child Pornography And Child Abuse
When one thinks about child abuse, usually the first thing that comes to their mind is physical
harm or aggressive behavior. However, the issue is much more complex than one can think.
Usually, child abuse can be manifested in both physical and emotional forms. Childhood is
thought as to be like a garden, protected by walls and hedges. However, in reality, most children
are often neglected, abused and exploited. Child pornography and sexual abuse are two of the
most disturbing issues in the world today. Having a very international background, I was able to
travel around the world and learn about different cultures, especially those of third world
countries. I was able to see the immense amount of poverty, violence, and hatred in all these
countries, however, I have never thought about the amount of children that are forced into child
trafficking, abuse, and pornography. According to statistics, 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 20 boys is a
victim of child sexual abuse and self report studies show that 20% of adult females and 5 10% of
adult males recall a childhood sexual assault or sexual abuse incident. In my opinion, this is
horrifying and shocking to know that there are more people than one might think that have been
through some sort of sexual assault or sexual abuse. I have never taken the time to learn about how
dozens of children go through these traumatic and horror situations. Visiting orphanages when I
travelled to India and China has impacted the way I see the other half

BOOK 1 Ready to give up, after waiting more than an hour for her daughter, suddenly Katherine
saw the old Malibu coming into the parking lot, and hid behind the building. Katherine peeked
around the corner and watched Marlene kiss the driver passionately before waltzing across the
doctor s parking lot. Unlocking the door the new red Mercedes, the raven haired beauty with a
reputation for being high maintenance drove out of the parking lotand down the street.
With her thoughts lingering on the last hours spent with her lover, Marlene entered the garage and
breathed a sigh of relief when she failed to see her husband s car. Exiting the Mercedes,
straightening her clothes, she picked up the mail before entering the house. After placing ... Show

immediately.
Go ahead, and talk to Jerry, I don t care! I have no idea why Frank called my phone, Marlene said,
My goodness, Mother. I ve only spoken to him a few times.
If that is true, why do you park your Mercedes in different garages around town at least four days a
week? Katherine asked.
Surprised by what her mother said, Marlene asked, And just where did you get that information?
I followed you and watched you park your car and get into another car, Katherine said.
Oh, come on Mom, you were following the wrong car. I don t have the only red Mercedes in
Jackson Heights. Good God, Mom! I would never jeopardize my family s happiness, Marlene said,
sarcastically, waving her hands. Concerned with her daughter s happiness, Katherine said, Honey,
don t expect me to remain silent and watch you destroy your family. Raising her voice, Marlene
said, I love you, Mother, and I do expect you to keep your mouth shut. I swear I ll see you in your
grave before you cause me trouble. I m warning you, leave it alone! Although shocked, Katherine
failed to respond.

Ranters And Utilitarianism
political tool utilized by the prevailing English system to keep people in a state of subjugation and
benightedness. These understandings of sin were not simply ideas; they were put into practice,
resulting in Ranter communal activities (somewhat ritualistic in nature). Sexually promiscuous
activities (ranging from sleeping with another man s wife to orgies), naked preaching, and cursing
(specifically by Abiezer Coppe) became accepted and encouraged practices. The Ranter Laurence
Clarkson believed his duty was to eat and drink, and to delight...all the days of [his] life. In many
ways, the pantheistic beliefs and successive actions of the Ranters not only created, but also
promoted the formation of an imagined community. Although all religious dissenters were assaulted
during this period, the Ranter experience with persecution was differentiable, due in part to the
immorality of their actions. The Ranters became a community by exclusion as society proved

Taking a Look at Eating Disorders
EATING DISORDERS
Introduction:
Eating disorders are conditions characterized by abnormal eating habits that include excessive or
insufficient food eating habits that hampers a person s mental as well as physical health. Anorexia
nervosa and bulimia nervosa are the most common types. Others are binge eating disorder and
eating disorder not otherwise specified.
Classification:
Anorexia nervosa (AN),
Bulimia nervosa (BN),
Eating disorders not otherwise specified
Binge eating disorder (BED) or compulsive overeating ,
Pica
The two most common types, Anorexia nervosa and Bulimia nervosa are described below:
Anorexia Nervosa:
Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a psychiatric disorder with severe physiological consequences,
characterized by the inability or refusal to maintain a minimally normal weight. Patients have a
profoundly disturbed body image as well as an intense fear of weight gain despite being moderately
to severely underweight.
Diagnostic criteria for anorexia nervosa include the following:
Restriction of energy intake relative to requirements, leading to a significantly low bodyweight in
the context of age, sex, developmental trajectory, and physical health.
Significantly low weight is defined as a weight that is less than minimally normal or, for children
and adolescents, less than that minimally expected.
Intense fear of gaining weight or of becoming fat, or persistent behavior that interferes with weight
gain, even though at a significantly low

Persuasive Essay On Call Of Duty Black Ops
The feature in the popular game series Call of Duty black ops. Has had an increasing rate of
sales in their game series Zombies with the DLC as well. Then people begin to argue that
multiplayer is better because it s faster pace. But someone has taken a poll and Zombies won it
and there were people supporting it in the comments.so you should think about which one you like
more meanwhile i m giving you evidence on which one i prefer.
In this paragraph I will be outlining the benefits of playing Zombies by yourself or with friends.
You can go on and try to beat the map or try to learn it and how to beat it strategically and learn
about the characters and their backstory. In addition there s a whole community out there to help
you out with something if you need it or if you just want to make some friends in the community to
play with. Even though people will argue that multiplayer is better I will show you the good things
you get from this game mode.

secrets to discover more about the storyline.Meanwhile in multiplayer it s just a bland shooting
simulator with no secrets to be shown or to unfold, also your characters are just going in and
killing each other. That is why I started to disband from that community plus everybody that I meet
on their are always trash talking which gets annoying and start play story driven.
People say that multiplayer is better than zombies which in my opinion is better. Because people
playing don t need story when they play it. Issac Sanchez, a student MLK, says that multiplayer is
better without no reason and he says that it s boring. But Kevin Hernandez says, a fellow zombies
player, says that zombies is more like an adventure. In the end this is why multiplayer is better than

How Did Francisco Goya s Influence On Society
One of the greatest artists in the history of art, Francisco Jose de Goya y Lucientes had his own
and very peculiar life story that affected the way in which he viewed society in the different
stages of his life. He became the pioneer of many new artistic tendencies that came about in the
19th century and his work extended over a period of 60 years in which he was both very acclaimed,
and badly criticized. FranciscoGoya, artist whose different paintings, drawings, and engravings
reflected contemporary historical upheavals, influenced many important painters in the centuries
that have followed.
Francisco Goya was born in March 30, 1749 in Zaragoza, Spain. At the age of 14 he was
apprenticed to Jose Martin Luzan, who was a local ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was after this success and achievements that he began to be critical about society, more
specifically after being left permanently deaf by a serious illness in 1792. As a result of his
deafness he concentrated in the fantasies of his imagination, with critical and satirical
observations of mankind. He was attracted to meditation and introspection. He stops seeing
society as a group of good customs and starts thinking about its negative aspects as well. From
these new ideas he evolved a bold, free style similar to caricature. In 1799 he published
Caprichos, a series of etchings satirizing human folly and weakness. His portraits were now
penetrating characterizations, revealing the subjects as Goya saw them. His religious portraits
were now broad and free in style, with a realism which was unprecedented in religious art. This
series was not intended for the same group of people as his earlier works, and so it had to be put
away by orders from the Spanish Inquisition. Francisco served as a director of painting at the
Royal Academy from 1795 to 1797 and named as the first Spanish court painter in 1799. It was
after this criticism of society that Francisco Goya became embittered and disillusioned with people
and society.
It is now in his old age that Goya is totally disappointed by humanity as a whole. He had to serve
as a court painter to the French during the Napoleonic invasion of Spain, and

level is 140.7 mmHG, and my average Diastole level is 61.2 mmHG.
Discussion: Systole is the phase of the heartbeat when the heart muscle contracts and pumps blood
from the chambers into the arteries. My partner measured my average systole level to be 117.
They measured it by using a blood pressure cuff, and listening with a stethoscope and the steps

What Is The Executive Branch Of Government
According to the US Constitution, a successful government, particularly a democracy, must have
six basic principals to function while keeping the people content and avoiding harsh dictatorship.
These can be simplified into two main beliefs. Firstly, that the hands of the people, a vast
majority of the people, hold the power of government. Secondly, that no one part or even all of the
sections of government may have complete rule in the country. Popular sovereignty allows the
majority of people to make decisions and change their country. This is very similar to the consent
of the governed, which defines itself and is also needed to avoid people government conflicts.
Overall, the people must be allowed freedoms that will make them the origin of government power.

Instead, different parts, or what s called branches, of the government handle separate topics. In the
US, there is an executive branch, a judiciary branch, and a legislative branch. The executive
branch is the central power of the government, the judiciary branch tries cases of law before
punishment is handed (which is yet another principal of government), and the legislative branch
creates and votes on laws. And each of these branches may overrule another in certain situations.
For example, the head of the executive branch in the US, the president, may veto or do away with
a law, but if the legislative branch has enough votes, they can keep that law anyway. That is having
what s called checks and balances, and prevents any one part of government from becoming too

The Rationality of Probabilities for Actions in Decision Theory
ABSTRACT: Spohn s decision model, an advancement of Fishburn s theory, is valuable for making
explicit the principle used also by other thinkers that any adequate quantitative decision model must
not explicitly or implicitly contain any subjective probabilities for acts. This principle is not used in
the decision theories of Jeffrey or of Luce and Krantz. According to Spohn, this principle is
important because it has effects on the term of action, on Newcomb s problem, and on the theory of
causality and the freedom of the will. On the one hand, I will argue against Spohn with Jeffrey that
the principle has to be given up. On the other, I will try to argue against ... Show more content on

In 1969 Robert Nozick introduced Newcomb s problem to the philosophic community as a
conflict between the principle of expected utility maximization and the principle of dominance.
Nozick s introduction led to a Newcombmania (Levi 1982), because philosophers have decisively
different opinions about the correct solution to this problem. The Newcombmania showed itself
in the development of causal and evidential decision theories and other proposals. Because the
evidential theories (for example Jeffrey 1965, 1983) do not use the principle, they cannot give a
solution to Newcomb s problem in case you accept the principle. The causal theories which use
subjunctive conditionals (for example Lewis 1981) are problematical, because they still have to
provide a logic of subjunctive conditionals, a probability theory for subjunctive conditionals and a
corresponding decision theory. Because Skyrms (1980) causal theory and Kyburg s (1980)
proposal of epistemic vs. stochastic independence also don t use the principle, only Spohn s
solution (1978) to Newcomb s problem is left. This solution which recommends taking both boxes
is valuable for its simplicity in contrast to the theories with subjunctive conditionals. According to
Spohn it is a mistake to use probabilities conditionalized on actions for the results of the prediction,
if the prediction is earlier than the choice. According to Spohn it is right that the

The Importance Of Self Improvement And The Value Of Education
The importance of self improvement and the value of education
A person is not defined by their past and the mistakes that they have made. They are defined by
what obstacles they have gone through and overcome in order to grow into the person that they
are today. Without struggle, there is no progress. No one can self improve unless they are willing
and able to overcome the challenges of life. Two important morals in my life are : always making
the room to self improve, and valuing my education. Through my American story, I plan to share
how I learned to appreciate the meaning of education, and the importance of improving and
bettering myself. Guest presentations and readings of other American s narratives this
semester, such as the presentation by David Delizza, Gary Shtyengart s novel Super Sad True
Love Story, The Narrative of Frederick Douglass , and The chicken in the hen house by David
Sedaris, all have made a further emphasis on aspects relevant to my life and my own story as an
American. David Delizza, one of our guest speakers, provided excellent advice on the topics of
self improvement and education. In David s opinion, education and self improvement are
extremely important, and are two factors that have helped him to accomplish many goals in life.
When David was placed on academic probation in college due to his low GPA, his school asked
him to remove himself from the program. He said no and set out to prove them wrong. The

Philosophies Of Enlightenment Philosophers
Philosophies That Take Our World
All of the great thinkers throughout history have the theme of choice evident in their works. The
world in the 17th and 18th century was changing fast with leading science and religious diversity.
The Enlightenment saw this ever changing world and worked on the psychological side of it. There
was thousands of Enlightenment philosophers who met and discussed their ideas of the human
psyche. Great thinkers like John Locke, Voltaire, Adam Smith, and Mary Wollstonecraft s
philosophies still thrive today in western civilization. If fractions of a society cannot function as a
whole, a society will never thrive. The general argument made by Voltaire in his work Letters
Concerning The english Nation, is that all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He argues that if the government fails men can make choices for the good and still thrive. This is
seen when Locke says The people are at liberty to provide for themselves, y erecting a new
legislative (Locke). Its is people s natural duty to self preserve, by making the right decisions in
creating a new government.
In Adam Smith s Wealth Of Nations argues that individual decision making make up a government
s economic success. More specifically Smith argues that when people make the choice to better
themselves it will better the society as a whole. Smith shows this when he writes, Every individual
necessarily [contributes to] the annual revenue of the society as great as he can (Smith). In this
work Smith is suggesting that when people make the choice to better themselves they also
contribute to the better of a society.
In Mary Wollstonecraft s work A Vindication of the Rights of Women, She argues that if women
can think and contribute to society just like men. Wollstonecraft argues that if women are given and
equal opportunity to get an education they will succeed, by allowing them [women ] to participate
in the inherent rights of mankind. Make them free, and they will quickly become wise and virtuous
(Wollstonecraft). This shows that women have the same right to learn and contribute to society if
they are given the choice to an

Missing Granules Reasearch Analysis
If a hailstorm has recently passed through your area, you may want to get up on your roof and
make sure that the hailstorm did not cause any damage. If the hailstorm did cause damage, you
can file a claim for fixing your roof through your homeowner s insurance policy. Here are a few
tips for telling the difference between normal wear and tear and damage caused by the hail while
you inspect your roof.
Missing Granules
One of the key indications that you should look for when inspecting your roof are shingles where
the granules are missing. The granules are the little particles that coat the top of your shingles. Over
time, granules tend to wear off your shingles. If the missing granules were caused by the recent
hailstorm, the area underneath them should look fresh. It should not look worn and ... Show more

Hailstorms tend to leave circular areas where the granules and tends to be more scatters and
random. Normal wear and tear produces a more uniform loss of granules.
Finally, be sure to check your gutters. If the missing granules were caused by the recent hailstorm,
there should be fresh granules that were washed away by the rain that came with the storm in your
gutters.
Cracks
While you are inspecting your roof, pay attention to any cracks that you see. Cracks as a result
of wear and tear tend to straighter and tend to go in flow with the directions of the tiles on your
roof. Cracks caused by a hail storm tend to be extremely random; the cracks will be scattered
across your roof. Also, instead of being straight in nature, the cracks will either be semi circular or
circular in nature.
Indentations
Finally, if you are able to, reach down and feel the surface of your roof. Your tiles should feel flat
and smooth, even if they are older. However, indentations or depressions on your roof are a sign of
hail damage, since your roof does not natural wear this

Anansi and Brother death is an African folklore tale, about the spider trickster Anansi
encountering Brother Death. Anansi discovers an old man sitting outside of a house one day.
Anansi, being thirsty asks the old man if he can enter his home and have a drink of water. The old
man stays totally silent. Anansi takes it upon himself then, to enter the home, drink some water
and help himself to any food he pleases. He leaves the home, thanking the old man for his
hospitality. The next day Anansi returns, and once more takes what water and food he desires,
after the old man says nothing to him. On the third day, he brings one of his daughters with him

The fact that a being as powerful as Death itself is punished with failure and embarrassment
because of his desire to capture Anansi, to take revenge on the Spider for his abuse of Brother Death

more than the person they wish to get revenge on.
Greed and it s risk towards yourself and those you care about, the exploitation of silence as
permission, and the fact that revenge can be a dangerous thing to seek out are very complex
lessons that would be next to impossible to explain to a child. Anansi s popularity in african lore,

Introduction As the world revolves, there are a lot of changes that happens in the world. For
example, in terms of technology, there are a lot of improvements already. Back then, for
example, features of mobile phones were only call and text. But more ideas have been developed
and people have started to think about how to improve some things so that they can attract more
consumers. The result is there are now more, in this case, high tech phones with carious incredible
features such as access to social media, hi quality camera s ability to upload to and download from
the Internet, e readers, and video calls for quicker and easier communication. In the world of

The demand for indigo cake increased as many wanted to use the cake for various purposes, such
as using it as a blue dye for their painting. However, the supply of indigo cake was decreasing due
to the hard production method, resulting a fluctuation in its price. But, a German chemist, Johann
Friedrich Willhelm Adolf von Baeyer, developed a cheaper alternative method by making synthetic
indigo. He started working with indigo in 1865. His work resulted in the first chemical synthesis of
indigo, in 1880. And then, three years later, he announced the chemical structure of synthetic
indigo. He then sold this invention to BASF (Badische Anilin und Soda Fabrik), an international
chemical company, for $100,000. Synthetic indigo, by 1913, had almost completely replaced
natural indigo, and by 2002, 17000 tons of synthetic indigo were produced worldwide.

New Orleans Essay
New Orleans is a Louisiana city on the Mississippi River, near the Gulf of Mexico. Nicknamed
the Big Easy, it s known for its round the clock nightlife, vibrant live music scene and spicy,
singular cuisine reflecting its history as a melting pot of French, African and American cultures.
Embodying its festive spirit is Mardi Gras, the late winter carnival famed for raucous costumed
parades and street parties.
The city is named after the Duke of Orleans, who reigned as Regent for Louis XV from 1715 to
1723, as it was established by French colonists and strongly influenced by their European culture. It
also has a number of illustrative nicknames:

Japanese Internment Camps During World War II
The decision to relocate Japanese Americans to internment camps during World War II was an
impurity in the United States reputation for maintaining democracy and individual rights. When
the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor during World War II, great hysteria spread through the
United States, urging President Roosevelt to pass the now infamous Executive Order 9066,
ordering the removal of all people of Japanese American descent. More than 100,000 people
were displaced and their lives were changed forever (Tremayne). The tragedies that these people
suffered bring into question the reasoning behind the order and its constitutionality. Challenges
were made to the constitutionality of the order in cases such as Korematsu vs. the United States
that were ruled down. With hindsight bias, the immorality of Executive Order 9066 seems
obvious, yet many at the time strongly felt that the right decision had taken place ( Personal
Justice Denied ). The circumstances of war made the lines of morality blurry, distorting the
decisions made. The Japanese American Relocation was an act of racism more than an act of
protection, and was motivated primarily by a fear of foreign people.Roosevelt states in Executive
Order 9066 that the war requires every possible protection against espionage and against sabotage
to national defense material (Executive Order 9066). He was pressured to sign this order by others
because of the paranoia that resulted from Pearl Harbor and the entry of the

Effectiveness Of Daily Formative Assessments
Discussion This study investigated the effectiveness of daily formative assessments in the success
of low achieving ninth grade Algebra 1 students. Sending students into annual standardized tests,
like the Algebra 1 End of course exam, without quality daily assessments, often end with students
being placed in remedial courses the following year. The continual use of giving students failing
unit test grades, unsatisfactory semester exams that fail them for the semester, and no daily
feedback, does not prepare students for mastery of essential Algebra 1 material. Countless studies
show that the way teachers teach and students are assessed needs to change. In this study, it was
statistically determined that daily formative assessments fostered a significant positive impact on
student performance between a pre test and a post test. The study was proposed to determine if
formative assessments would make a statistical difference compared to traditional assessment
methods. According to the results of this study, students mastery of Algebra 1 concepts increased
due to the use of daily formative assessments. The daily formative assessments afforded the teacher
and the students with immediate feedback, allowing for a continual understanding of un mastered
Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) as needed to succeed on the summative assessment,
the Algebra 1 End of Course (EOC). From these findings, it can be concluded that the use of daily
formative assessments

The Classical Nuclear Deterrence Strategy During The Cold War
The classical nuclear deterrence strategy used during the Cold War would require some
modifications in order to be effective against non state actors in the 21st century. The United
States and the Soviet Union had enough nuclear weapons between the two superpowers that
deterred both from using. This was because it would not be beneficial socially or economically
for either in the long term. Non state actors are not equal in most respects to state actors and
sometimes considered not deterrable , so therefore a modified approach may prove more effective.
The basic definition of deterrence is the concept of providing the enemy with enough evidence that
any attempt to attack would result in far greater consequences for the aggressor. General

Pride In Shakespeare s Othello
As Toba Beta once said, Pride is the mother of arrogance . Pride can cause anyone to overvalue
themselves and lose sight of the truth. In Othello s case, his pride puts himself on a pedestal. When
Iago challenges this by suggesting that Desdemona cheats on him, he slowly loses his confidence
and becomes weak and insecure. Iagovaguely warns him to not become jealous of Cassio, and
Othellos fragile ego once again causes him to let his mind get the best of him. In Shakespeare s
Othello, Othello s pride leads to his downfall in order to show that too much confidence eventually
leads to emotional self destruction. In the beginning acts, Othello is depicted as a very strong and
confident man. When Iago reveals to Othello that Brabantio is angry about his relationship with
Desdemona, Othello continues to be confident and believe that he belongs with Desdemona.
Othello shows his confidence by saying that his [...] parts, my title, and my perfect soul / Shall
manifest me rightly (I.ii.36 37). This shows that Othello has the strength to continue fighting for
Desdemona, although her father does not support the relationship. Othello s pride causes him to
believe that because of his legal status and positive personality, Brabantio will accept him as
Desdemona s partner. Although he is incorrect, his theory proves that he... Show more content on

Nori Seaweed Essay
INTRODUCTION
An intertidal community is made up of a very diverse and populated group of organisms and
species. Rocky intertidal zones are located on shore lines. They are found on sandy or rocky
beaches. Intertidal communities are known as tidal pools that are covered by water during high
tide and vulnerable to air at low tide. These communities can be very complex and overcrowded
areas. The species that are present are Nori Seaweed, Black Pine, Coral Weed, Mussel, Acorn
Barnacle, Goose Neck Barnacle, Whelk, Chiton, Starfish, and Green Crab. Nori Seaweed is the
weakest competitor in the sessile consumers. The sessile organisms are permanently located on
rocks and don t move. The barnacles and mussel dominate over all the sessile organisms. The
starfish feeds mainly off the mussel and is the specie that governs the whole intertidal zone. When
the green crab is added they dominate over the starfish and they can sometimes cause destruction
among the entire ecosystem. Green crab feed off of barnacles, whelk, mussels, and many other
species. The algae produce their own food. The filter feeders are consumers but extract particles
out of the water to eat. Most of the species feed off each other. ... Show more content on

In the module we see that the starfish is a keystone predator. If that species is removed how will
it affect that ecosystem or the other organisms living in the intertidal community? I PREDICT
THAT REMOVING THE STARFISH WILL INCREASE THE MUSSEL POPULATION. Since
starfish feed off of several organisms I think it will impact the mussels the most when removing the
starfish. We can test this by using the module You

Factors Of Juvenile Crime
Juvenile crime has been a major issue in the United State, from the beginning and its impact on
society. People are trying to find effective ways to stop it. Juvenile crime has many factors that
influences the United States and makes people want to stop it. Juvenile crime is an issue that needs
to be stopped. Juvenile crimecan be a danger to many people. Juvenile crime had a strong uprising
when conditions within the society got worse. Research over the past few decades on normal child
development and development on delinquent behavior has shown that individual, social, and
community conditions and interactions influence behavior(McCord). This says that in bad
environments in the community the children that live there are more likely to be an individual with
juvenile delinquency. Clearly, genes affect biological development, but there is no biological
development without environmental input, Bock and Goode (McCord, 66). This quote says
that environmental interaction develops kids, so kids that interact with a bad environment can
end up in a worse position than other kids [what other kids? Kids from a good environment?
JMH]. The age can influence whether or not a child will be a juvenile delinquent. Studies of
criminal activity by age constantly find that rates of offending begin to rise in pre adolescence
or early adulthood(McCord). This says that juvenile crime usually starts when the children are
teens or entering their puberty years. This can be a big deal because that age is usually when
kids are influenced more easily. The percentage of boys who self reported serious delinquent
behavior rose from 5 percent at age 6 to about 18 percent at age 16 for whites and 27 percent for
blacks at age 16. Loeber (McCord,68). This says that delinquent behavior and crime rose for
each race at the age of 16. The family influence also plays a big role for a child if the child is
going to be a delinquent or not. When families have difficulties with the task laid on them, the
product often is a juvenile delinquent.(McCord) This says that parents with no care in how their
child ends up will have their child become a juvenile delinquent.
Juvenile crime is affecting the United states because Juvenile crime and

The Canadian Arctic
What is the federal government s strategy to support its claims to sovereignty in the high Arctic?
The Canadian Arctic, one of the defining features of our vast landscape. It spans more than 40%
throughout our country and is home to more than 100,000 Canadians (Arctic, 2013). There is a
variety of climate and terrain throughout this region. The Arctic in general has ownership claims by
many countries including Canada, Denmark (including Greenland and the Faroe Islands), Finland,
Iceland, Norway, Russia, Sweden and the United States (Member States, 2011). All these countries
claim that they own parts of the Arctic but how valid are those claims? What and why does our
government want to claim parts of the Arctic? How valid are Canada s and other nation s claims to
the Arctic?
Our claims to the north do have a basis and the law dictates that. According to the United Nations
Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), François Côté and Robert Dufresne a nation
has the right to claim 12 miles off the coast as that country s territory, however ships maintain a
right to innocent passage meaning that all ships can travel freely in those waters as long as there
engaged in peaceful passage (ex. Commercial ships). This means that 12 miles of the Arctic
Archipelago belong to Canada (2008). So legally we do own parts of the Arctic but what about
after 12 miles? Well there is another set of laws in the UNCLOS act. There is a 200 nautical mile

Coaching Track Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a successful track coach

twenty million Americans who are running today, most who start do so for the wrong reasons,
with the wrong attitude, and tend to lose interest after a few weeks or months. Many quit. This is
usually because they become concerned with superficial goals such as time and distance and never

guys be doing the same workout, when it would only benefit one of you (Washington). Not only
does a coach prepare athletes body but also their minds. A coach prepares the athletes mind by
getting them to think about what they are going to be doing before there event comes up. If one
were to look at Maurice Green before a race, one would notice that he is very concentrated and
thinking about what he needs to do to win. Another example of that would be football or
basketball players. Before the game, each athlete has his or her own ritual before game time.
That concentration is called getting in the zone. What I do know is how to get you in the best
shape of your life so that you ll be stronger and more explosive than you ve ever been. I can also
help you prepare your mind for competition (Connolly 14). When one becomes a track coach, one
has to make many important decisions concerning their athletes. When accessing an athlete, the
coach will have to decide what events will work best for the athlete, and the team. If an athlete gets
injured, the coach will have to decide whether or not the athlete should compete

The Restoration Of Wetland And Wetlands
According to Elizabeth Willott, wetland and mosquitoes have generally gone hand in hand. One
reason that many wetlands have been drained is to get rid of mosquitoes. In the process, valuable
ecosystems were destroyed. Now many people want to restore wetlands. It may be possible to
restore some wetlands while controlling mosquitoes, but it would require planning and frequented
intervention on the part of humans. Should people have to be concerned with what is going too
happened to the mosquitoes and wetland, or they have to be thinking about how to protect the
ecosystems? On a higher understanding should we give priority to people s lives or priority to the

It is clear that for developing countries wetland are very important ecologically, because the serves
as habitat for a variety of animals. The truth is that the elimination of the insect shows the
arguments for and against. Negative factors are obvious. Infected people die each year of malaria,
dengue, yellow fever, encephalitis, West Nile virus and other diseases of which is carried by the
mosquito. Not counting the permanent fumbling for people. In many places they make strangling
swarms covering areas such as caribou in Alaska. But on the other hand, they live all over the
planet, fulfilling the function of feeding species of different ecosystems. Some scientists argue
that kill them would turn to other predators without plants without pollinators. In relation to the
Arctic, where they form a compact biomass floating on the tundra, eradication could cause the
number of migratory birds whose power supply are reduced mosquitoes. There are also many
fish, spiders, frogs, salamanders, lizards, who like to eat their larvae, as they are tasty to their

Analysis Of Eric Erikson s Eight Stages Of Identity Theory
Introduction Identity or Self concept is something that evolves or matures right along with us; it
changes from physical concepts to more complex thoughts. (Damon Hart, 1988) Questions like
Who am I? and What is my Purpose? Have perplexed humanities greatest philosophers; the
complexity of these questions has even created a study of purpose; Teleology, the study of
purpose. John Locke held that personal identity is a matter of psychological continuity. He
considered the self to be founded on consciousness and not on the substance of either the soul or

crisis which they must establish. Adolescents who struggle to find a purpose to their lives and a
separate identity from their parents may be unable to establish one. 6.Intimacy vs. Isolation
After a young person has established his or her identity, Erikson proposes that a person now is
able to establish intimate relationships with others. Failure to do so can result in long term
feelings of isolation. 7.Generativity vs. Stagnation People who can provide guidance to their
children can feel a sense of purpose. Those who cannot resolute this stage will stagnate and have

reflection of the life a person has lived. If the previous stages have been met, then a person can die

Theme Of Clothing In Macbeth
In William Shakespeare s Macbeth, Shakespeare utilizes clothing to demonstrate two main ideas
related to Macbeth s psyche. He first uses the motif of clothing to symbolize power, and later to
show that dress can be used as a mask to cover up evil beings and deeds. Shakespeare utilizes the
recurring image of clothing to emphasize the change in power in Scotland, the difference of nobles
opinions, and the poor shift in the ruler. In Act 1 Scene III, the imagery of clothing is predominant
and demonstrates Macbeths change in title. Once Angus, a Scottish noble, reports to Macbeth that
he has earned the title of Thane of Cawdor, he says The Thane of Cawdor lives. Why do you
dress me / In borrowed robes? (1. 3. 110 111) He is in disbelief that the witches first prophecy has
come true and questions his title. Shakespeare utilizes the clothing imagery to emphasize that from
this particular moment in Macbeth s life, both his personality and psyche are about to undergo a
drastic change, by transforming into a man blinded by his ambition for power. Later, while Angus
explains why he is receiving this title, he unintentionally foreshadows Macbeth s future:
Who was the thane lives yet,
But under heavy judgment bears that life
Which he deserves to lose. . .
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

So if the market isn t affected by which way you obtain the information, why is one way illegal and
the other legal when it is the exact same information?
For example, if I overheard a conversation by a CEO (or even if the CEO told me directly)
revealing a morsel of information pertaining to their business that had not become available to the
public yet, that would be an illegal piece of information to trade on. On the other hand, if I went to
that CEO s business every day and interviewed their customers or managers and my efforts turned
up the same information, that information would be absolutely legal to trade on because it was the
product of research even though it is the same exact information that was obtained by the CEO in

Victimless Crime
There is no guarantee that there is always a victim of insider trading, more often than not, there is
actually no victim at all. When a person trades on the market, whether using legally obtained

Talk Therapy For Depression Or Bipolar Disorder ( Manic...
Psychotherapy (also known as talk therapy) can be an important part of treatment for depression or
bipolar disorder (manic depression). A good therapist can help you cope with feelings and
symptoms, and change behavior patterns that may contribute to your illness.
Talk therapy is not just talking about your problems ; it is also working toward solutions. Some
therapy may involve homework, such as tracking your moods, writing about your thoughts, or
participating in social activities that have caused anxiety in the past. You might be encouraged to
look at things in a different way or learn new ways to react to events or people.
Most of today s psychotherapy is brief and focused on your current thoughts, feelings and life
issues. Focusing on the past can help explain things in your life, but focusing on the present can
help you cope with the present and prepare for the future. You might see your therapist more often
at the beginning of treatment, and later, as you learn to manage problems and avoid triggers, you
might go to psychotherapy appointments less often.
Psychotherapy can help you: Understand your illness; define and reach wellness goals; overcome
fears or insecurities; cope with stress; make sense of past traumatic experiences; separate your true
personality from the mood swings caused by your illness; identify triggers that may worsen your
symptoms; improve relationships with family and friends; establish a stable, dependable routine;

Subliminal Messages In Advertising
Advertising Using Subliminal Messages to Promote Food Products
There have been studies showing how subject s mood and behavior changed when exposed to
subliminal messages. These studies have looked at if subliminal messages could influence our
desires (Benoit Tomas, 1992). Advertising agencies really benefit from subliminal messages
because of the affects they cause. In a study by Talbot and Duberstein (1991), they revealed that
subjects who are exposed to subliminal food messages were more likely to eat than subjects who
were not. This research can help other people to know what to watch and what not to watch. This
literature review will look at how subliminal messages in advertising (such as commercials,
billboards, magazine ads, etc.) can change our behavior and/or mood and it will also look at how
this could affect our eating habits. This is an important question because we are exposed to it all
the time and we need to know how it s affecting our lives. Literature Review
Treimer and Simonson (1988) did a study where they took a handful of undergraduate and graduate
students who responded to their ads. The study measured how much weight the participants lost
after watching a certain video. Half the participants were to watch a video that had some sort of

How to Cure Insomnia
Biology Issue Report
Subject: Why insomnia is an effective disorder and what solutions can be applied to cure it.
The problem
Biologists, Psychologists and Therapists have been trying to inaugurate a treatment for insomnia
which has a negative effect on sleep. Deep sleep aids a major biological restorative function as it
renews our physical energy. The issue is that insomniacs don t sleep enough and that means they
lack physical energy. (2)
Categories of Insomnia
Onset Insomnia (Transient Insomnia): finding it difficult to fall asleep.
Maintenance Insomnia (Acute Insomnia): waking up regularly during the night.
Termination Insomnia (Chronic Insomnia): waking up very early and cannot sleep again. (9)
Symptoms of Insomnia
Insomnia or otherwise called sleeplessness is a sleep disorder where the human organism fails to
fall asleep or to stay asleep. This causes the inefficiency of the human body to work properly.
Insomnia may lead into many problems such as depression and even the increase of risk of heart
disease. A person who suffers from chronic insomnia may suffer also from hallucination and double
vision. (5) Some of the obvious symptoms (see figure 1) seen when first having insomnia are
sleeplessness during the day, getting tired frequently, having difficulty with memory concentration
and petulance. (12)
Causes of Insomnia
People who show symptoms of insomnia are usually: older than 60, with mental health disorders,

The Single Leading Cause Of Disability Worldwide Is Low...
The single leading cause of disability worldwide is low back pain (LBP) (Salomon et al., 2013).
In the U.S, approximately 80 percent of adults experience back pain sometime in their life, with a
total health care expenditure of 90.7 billion in 1998 (Luo, Pietrobon, Sun, Liu, Hey, 2004). LBP is
the second most frequent systematic reason for visits to primary healthcare providers (Hart, Deyo,
Cherkin, 1995) and is usually recurrent with exacerbations that tend to increase in severity. The
total costs of LBP in the United States exceed $100 billion per year (Katz, 2006).
Within the Veteran population there are fifty to seventy percent affected with chronic pain(Krein et
al., 2010), with an annualized prevalence increase in the diagnosis of low back pain (LBP) of 4.8%
per year; larger than diabetes 4.4%, hypertension 4.1% and depression 3.8% (Sinnott Wagner, 2009).
In the primary healthcare setting, Veterans commonly present with acute or an exacerbation of
chronic LBP. The Veterans returning from Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi
Freedom Veterans cite pain specifically LBP as their most frequent complaint (Gironda, Clark,
Massengale, Walker, 2006).
Low back pain is multidimensional, involving structural, mechanical, psychological and social
influences that ultimately results in a complex presentations. There are several clinical practice
guidelines for LBP evaluation and management to include the Quebec Task Force on Spinal

Examples Of Coming Of Age In A Portrait Of The Artist As A...
Anthony Ingracia Cpt.Griffin English 303 AP 9 February 2011 Coming of Age A Portrait of the
Artist as a Young Man is a complete work of art, complete in the sense that it gives such great
insight to human nature and the people of the world. The title is essentially what this novel
represents. The coming of age is represented like a portrait because it takes a long time, with
many different attempts, to reach the final work of art. In even greater context, the protagonist
experiences a series of epiphanies in which he gains insight into his own nature and into the people
of the world. In the main characters coming of age there are crucial components that are lost and
gained, which can be derived from his love of family, religion,... Show more content on

The fact that the temptations are still there though worries him, and he wonders if he has really
corrected himself. Stephen then faces many problems, from home to school, where he begins to
question faith and religion once again. This is where the second epiphany comes in. After some
thought Stephen decides that he must pursue his ambitions and live his life freely without
inhibitions. Throughout Stephen s early life the idea of art is almost lost for him. Stephen
always has the idea of art in his mind and can be considered his one true love. The ambition of art
did not always influence his thinking and ideals until later in his teenage years. The challenges
and mental boundaries he experiences can contribute to the artist he wants to become, therefore
making him very open minded artist with traditional Irish roots. Stephen was a confused boy who
was on his own personal pursuit of happiness. Stephen was fortunate enough to realize that the
choices he made before adulthood would effect the rest of his life. With that in mind, Stephen s
coming of age causes him to lose some things, while at the same time gaining others. The main
part of Stephens coming of age was his transformation between one of religious conformity and
one free of inhibitions as an artist. I mean, said Stephen, that I was not myself as I am now, as I

To Kill a Mockingbird Coming of Age
Throughout the book, To Kill a Mockingbird, Scout demonstrates maturity in a number of
examples. There were two main experiences where Scout could see herself come of age. Not
only that, but she reflects on those occurrences and ask the question, why? At the beginning of
the novel, Boo Radley is addressed. Rumors have floated around, referring to Boo as a
malevolent phantom while accusing him of being guilty of any stealthy small crimes that were
committed in Maycomb. When Scout was younger she believed in these rumors, and always felt
on edge when close to the Radley Place. Despite this, Scout, her brother Jem, and her friend Dill

You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... until you

Middle age and Renaissance
Introduction
The Renaissance started after the plague in the fourteenth and fifteenth hundreds of years and was
fueled by warriors coming back from the Crusades. There was restored enthusiasm for ancient
Greek and Roman craftsmanship. Individuals were incorporated into craftsmanship. Work of art
was no more only delineations of heavenly themes. There was new enthusiasm for science, the
earth and logic. This paper aims at evaluating on the literary works of middle age and renaissance.
The Plague Begins
Life in the city was soon to change definitely. Amid the late Middle Agesand early Renaissance
(1350 1450) the bubonic plague, additionally called the Black Death, crushed one portion of the
number of inhabitants in Europe. The plague, which was quite often fatal, spread most quickly in
urban communities, where individuals were in close contact with each other. The best way to stay
away from the plague was to leave the city for the nation. This arrangement was, shockingly,
accessible just to those sufficiently affluent to make the excursion.
The Plague s Effect on the Economy
The population diminish brought about by the plague prompted to economic disparity. Vendors and
tradespeople had less individuals to whom they could offer their products. Items subsequently
gathered, and the dealers and brokers endured a loss in their income. Financial hardship spread all
through the group as the individuals who

Women s Rights During The Civil War
Falling within a timeline of political and social inequality, the American Civil War came at a
key time to change the women s rights landscape. The period leading up to the Civil War,
however, did not see a society ready to change, and thus, little work was done towards the
women s rights movement. According to Women s Civil War History author Mary Elizabeth
Massey, women s rights activists before the Civil War were small in numbers, but opinionated
(qtd in Hall 1 2). Dogmatic women s rights activists were stuck in a world that deemed women as
inferior, which created a society ripe for change; change that would make significant headway
during the Civil War through the creation of the female run United States Sanitary Commission.
The USSC was a civilian operation unlike any other that aimed to coordinate supplies, relief, and
medicine during the Civil War while simultaneously empowering women to leave the domestic
sphere. Founded in 1861 and staffed with at least 3,200 paid female nurses and hundreds of
additional volunteers, the USSC was, according to the Commission itself, a grand system of
sanitary care and succor, (Williams 136, The USSC iii). However, societal views did not change
overnight as the women of the USSC worked throughout the war and into the years after to erase
the gender divide. Overcoming considerable opposition to its creation, the USSC mobilized women
through organization and work experience, changing their political standing and public perceptions

What action should President Obama take to attenuate the problem of drug abuse among expecting
mothers during pregnancy?
Background
In the United States, there has been a growing concern for the number of newborn children that
have been exposed to drugs while in utero. The defenseless fetus is subject to any and all substances
that the mother ingests, injects, or inhales into her body. Significantly decreased gestational ages as
well as low birth weight have been linked to infants that have been born to mothers who are
engaging in substance abuse. Marijuana, cocaine, cigarettes, methamphetamine, heroin, and alcohol
are some of the more widely abused substances among pregnant mothers (Bailey, McCook, Hodge,
McGrady, 2012).
Children born to drug dependent mothers are susceptible to preterm delivery, decreased intrauterine
growth, impaired neurological developments, as well as congenital abnormalities. Unfortunately,
once the umbilical cord is cut, the withdrawal for the infants is initiated. The symptoms of
withdrawal will be evident in 55% to 94% of infants within 2 to 7 days after delivery (Eichel
Johannemann, 2014).
Some states have begun the argument that makes mothers that are positive for illegal, illicit, or

shows manipulation because Sissy has lied about intentionally drowning Emma and said it was
fun in order for Emma to think that Sissy was not trying to hurt her, so that they can be together
longer. Another example of manipulation on Sissy s part is when Dulcie states, There it s gone!
I don t want to hear another word about this. It s a case of teenage vandalism. This demonstrates
how Sissy is manipulative because Sissy tricked Dulcie into thinking that it was immature
teenagers that destroyed her paintings when it was Sissy. Even if Dulcie did think that Sissy did
do it deep, down inside, Sissy still manipulated her because Dulcie will think she is back and that
now she has to tell the truth about what she had really done. The last example in which Sissy has
proven she can be manipulative is when she says, What if I throw Edith in the lake? Do you want
her enough to jump in and get her? This shows how Sissy is conniving because she deceived Emma
to leap into the water, knowing that Emma could not swim and drown. Sissy has demonstrated

professional audio products for musicians, noise reduction products for pilots, material testing
instruments for universities and products for homebuilding and remodeling. The organization is
diverse in their products and selling them outside of its home country will cause currency
exposure. It is best to prepare a strategic plan for currency exposure of Bose products, due to the
transactions risk faced by companies involved in international trade. Completing financial
obligations after a trade has been made will decrease the currency and fluctuations of exchange
rates. This involves the exposure of assets, stocks and the sensitivity of asset return within the

lung cancer. He and his former student, Jesse Pinkman, try to produce and sell crystal meth to

next. As a consequence, he buys a gun to protect himself from this brutal man. In spite of the fact
that he can make a lot of money from him by producing and selling meth, his security comes
first. In that moment, he does not care about how much money that he can earn in the future
because if he dies, money will not be important anymore. Thus, he tries to convince Walter to

Consequently, they try to make a plan to kill this erratic violent drug dealer. Both do not

The Concept Of Intertextuality
Introduction
Research Background
Derived from the Latin intertexto, intertextuality is the complex relationship between texts, which
accounts for a separate field or location in which the text can act. The term intertextuality was
acknowledged as Julia Kristeva s coinage in the late 1960s in the context of structuralist and post
structuralist thoughts going at it hammer and tongs. Translation Studies, an interdisciplinary field,
centers on creating a comprehensive solution for complex problems encountered in translating
process. From the moment that the theory of intertextuality was integrated into the field of
Translation Studies in the late 1970s, the concept of translation activity has undergone a radical
evolution. Since the intertextual network has weakened the major and minor relationships between
the source text and the target ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Relevant literature review are offered in Chapter 1, exploring where a contribution to knowledge
may be situated. Chapter 2 begins by considering the origin of intertextuality theory from a number
of linguistic, literary and philosophical key figures to outline clearly its development process.
Thereafter, it is explained how intertextuality is related to translation. An explanation then follows
of how translating activity can be analyzed in terms of reading and translating when the
intertextuality is taken as an effective approach and principle. This chapter also includes
considering intertextuality as applicable to the analysis of the case adopted in this study, explaining
why it is feasible to use the framework to analyze the material. The main analyses are presented in
Chapters 3 with intertextual approach to the co translation. Fairclough s classification of manifest
and constitutive intertextuality is used to construct the structure of this part and source and target
texts are then analyzed to explore intertextual effects on translating

Who Is The Antagonist In Kill Bill
When someone thinks of a Quentin Tarantino movie, the first things that come to mind are his
excellent storytelling and developed fleshed out characters. In films such as Pulp Fiction and
Kill Bill, the elements that make Tarantino such a great Director and screenwriter are pushed
aside for cartoonish violence, gore and blood. The prolific use of blood, specifically in Kill Bill,
is used not only as a major story point, but also as pure adrenaline filled, nonstop entertainment
that will keep its viewers glued on to the screen. In Kill Bill, the main plot of the story revolves
around Uma Thurman s character seeking revenge for her attempted assassination, but it is set aside
with the gore presented from the very beginning of the movie. The big... Show more content on

The Bride survives the ordeal and plots her revenge that ultimately leads her through an action
packed adventure filled with gory imagery and violence. Based on premise alone, the story is a
tale of a strong female protagonist seeking rightful revenge for the complete and utter destruction
of her life up to that point and betrayal by her former teammates. Tarantino uses the violence as a
narrative plot point as each encounter with the members of the groups serves to grow the
protagonist both in skill and character as it culminates to her fight in Volume 1 with Oren Ishii.
The audience is set to sympathize with the protagonist from the very beginning thus providing an
excuse for the extreme violence she displays further into the movie. Although the violence is
done through a given motive, it does not justify the portrayal of such gratuitous scenes such as
the one where she does not hesitate to kill every single henchman Ishii has at her disposal with
relative ease. Her insatiable blood lust and the violent nature of this particular scene were so great
that Tarantino is forced to censor the gore from American audiences by graying out the scene.
(Paste Magazine) The build up to this scene shows the protagonist becoming increasingly violent
as well. As the story progresses, the amount of death and gore escalates to hyperbolic levels. The
audience is slowly but surely growing accustomed to the violence portrayed in the movie and
requires more gruesome scenes to keep themselves stimulated with what is happening on screen.
The bodies wasted on screen, have proliferated at an increasingly faster and decreasingly surprising
rate. The audience is disconnected from the main narrative, and focuses on the ever increasing

Persuasive Essay On Same Sex Adoption
One day I was looking out my window, watching my boys play. I started thinking about how they
are the future of the world. They are the engineers, presidents, congressman, businessman, and
lawyers of tomorrow. Later that day, I saw a news article discussing the issue of same sex
adoption. As I watched I thought to myself, where did we forget that it was about the kids? So,
out of curiosity, I began to look up some statistics about kids that have no homes, the ones that are
waiting for good families. I started wondering if it is about the kids, then why, do we care about
same sex adoptions at all. There are two sides to the argument of same sex adoption, and to really
get a feel for the issue you must understand both sides. However, the two sides of the discussion
are not entirely complicated although the reasons are. One side supports same sex adoption and
the other side opposes same sex adoption. Both sides agree that what they want is what s best for
the kids.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to look at the studies of how, if at all, same sex adoption affects children. The last thing we need
to address would be the public opinions of same sex adoption. This includes religious and moral
beliefs and the political ideas, as this is where the policies will be addressed and decisions made to

Doctors can easily make money off of advertising drugs of certain pharmaceutical companies,
and this fact was proved by the investigating doctor. As Dr. Prasad followed developments on the
situation and tried to inquire, he discovered that those doctors had received thousands of dollars

their brands. When Dr. Prasad raised question on the issue, he was asked to stay off because the
other doctors claimed that medical doctors should stay off the topic of rising costs of drugs in
the medical industry. This conflict can have a drastic effect on the patients and the other people
in the organization. For one reason, the patients will be convinced to purchase the drugs that are
being advertised over other products that could better suit them and may take longer to heal and
will have to pay a lot more money thus affecting their financial stability, given that health care
costs are forever on the rise. In this way the conflict of interest can interfere with the ability of a

  • 2. The Disease Of Gluten Intolerance People with schizophrenia can be highly vulnerable due to the debilitating symptoms of their illness, the discrimination they experience from medical providers, and their high rates of disease comorbidities, like gluten intolerance, that may further debilitate functioning if left untreated. Since the 1950s, higher rates of gluten intolerance have been observed in people with schizophrenia compared to the general population. Diseases of gluten intolerance generally consist of either celiac disease (CD) or non celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS). CD occurs in about 1% of the general population and is a hereditary, autoimmune response triggered by the ingestion of proteins known as gluten that are found in common grains like wheat, barley, and rye (Cascella et al., 2011). CD is typically diagnosed by confirming the presence of gluten antibodies in the blood, testing for the presence of certain immune system genes known as Human Leukocyte Antigens (HLAs), and confirmation of atrophied villi cells in the small intestine ( How Is Celiac Diagnosed? 2016). For CD patients, atrophy of the small intestine leads to nutrient malabsorption and an increased permeability of both the intestinal wall and potentially the blood brain barrier, which may contribute to extra intestinal immune responses that cause the immune system to attack other organs and tissues (Cascella, 2011). In addition to CD, Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (NCGS) is a form of gluten intolerance where atrophied villi are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Disconnect Between The Church s Religion And Its... The false dichotomy that I have chosen to discuss is the current disconnect between the church s religion and its relationship with a concentration on its influence within a lost world. The disconnect between these two dichotomies seems to be that one side has become comfortable in their current state of salvation, and has fallen into a tradition based worship that seemingly lacks intimacy, influence, and power. While the other side can at times, seem to be unorthodox, potentially lacking order and reasoning. In discussing this topic, my hope is to accurately portray both sides for what they are, and why I believe the church s that are found more on the relationship principle align more with scripture s depiction of Christ s bride. The Merriam Webster dictionary defines religionas the belief of a godor a group of gods while also stating that religion is an organized system of beliefs, ceremonies, and rules to worship a god or a group of gods.[1] When a group of people gather and base their worship off of things done in the past and base their worship on a belief rather than a knowledge or understanding of the one true God, it becomes legalistic and rigid, lacking in passion and devotion. This belief creates a going through the motions attitude which results in a body of believers lacking power to change their own behaviors while also creating the depiction of a loveless, lifeless, self centered church that is saved based off of their rituals and church ... • 4. Reflection About Moving To University Walking in to University on the first day was intimidating as well as exciting. Surrounded by big tall buildings and thousands of fellow students. The University of Edinburgh was not what I expected. From being nervous to talk to someone new, to now being able to talk to anyone in my year. I will reflect on my experiences from the past semester and how I thoughtabout things such as dress code, attitudes. Challenges I faced, successes I accomplished and the future ahead. I expected university to be people smartly dressed, have a hard working mentality and have an enthusiastic passion to learn. There are very few people I have seen make that true. As I come in to university I see people in casual jeans, shirts and even joggers. Even though in the article from (Smith, 2016), shows that by coming dressed smarter for work improves results and productivity, I am not sure why my fellow students are not keen about their learning as much as me. In lectures, tutorials and topic seminars, I see people constantly using social media, playing games and chatting amongst each other rather than concentrating and focusing on the lecturer and understanding the material being taught. When it comes to passion to learn, people talk about not going to lectures, tutorials and sometimes missing assigned online material which will benefit them. This attitude of learning and dressing smart may just be the type of family and upbringing I have been brought up with, but I did not expect such low levels of discipline in such a highly respected university. This really surprised me and has changed the way I look at university. Looking back at my first semester at the university, I think how surprisingly quickly these weeks have gone by and we are nearly at the penultimate week of our learning before our winter exams start. Some of the best successes were from my group presentations, becoming a programme representative as well as my economics results. My main challenges these past 12 weeks were to adapt to a different style of learning and having to make time at home to also study and revise while balancing this with my job and helping run the family business. Coming in to university every week thinking its only week 3, week 4 and now its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Animal Farm Propaganda Animal Farm: Timeless Propaganda Upon Animal Farm s first publication in 1945, it quickly became a success and is now regarded as one of the best allegories of Soviet totalitarianism ever written. All of its characters provided a representation of Soviet Russia s political figures, with its main character, Napoleon, illustrating Joseph Stalin and a corrupt totalitarian rule. The book parodies Stalin s rise to power and his eventual total control of nearly every aspect of personal and private behavior. Animal Farm s message does not strictly coincide to the events of the 1930 s, however. In Animal Farm, three specific tactics of propaganda arise which are visible today. These propaganda devices are fear, deceit, and isolationism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shortly after their birth, Napoleon took the young puppies from the farm dogs in order to raise them personally. He completely isolated them from the rest of the animals in order to mold them into his own instruments of political oppression. Ahmadinejad does the same through strict isolation via information control. Any newspapers which post information deemed unfit for the Iranian public are quickly suspended. The journalists who wrote these articles are often arrested and imprisoned. Iran also has placed several restrictions on high speed internet in an effort to filter out Western influence. Iranian connection speeds were reduced to 128KB per second, making it impossible to receive fast broadband packages. This makes it impossible to receive any western movies, music, or television. They claim it as an attempt to protect Iranian youth, but quite plainly, it s nothing more than a way of restricting any outside ideas and further strengthening their own. Animal Farm is a good example of how timeless certain techniques of propaganda can be. Even after almost 70 years, Animal Farm s message of propaganda based totalitarianism still carry on. Current Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad closely parallels Stalin s methods of propaganda. Both have methods rooted in three main devices: fear, deceit, and isolationism. Through these devices, Ahmadinejad is able to mold Iranian ideas to fit his own. He sways public opinion and shows how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Child Pornography And Child Abuse When one thinks about child abuse, usually the first thing that comes to their mind is physical harm or aggressive behavior. However, the issue is much more complex than one can think. Usually, child abuse can be manifested in both physical and emotional forms. Childhood is thought as to be like a garden, protected by walls and hedges. However, in reality, most children are often neglected, abused and exploited. Child pornography and sexual abuse are two of the most disturbing issues in the world today. Having a very international background, I was able to travel around the world and learn about different cultures, especially those of third world countries. I was able to see the immense amount of poverty, violence, and hatred in all these countries, however, I have never thought about the amount of children that are forced into child trafficking, abuse, and pornography. According to statistics, 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 20 boys is a victim of child sexual abuse and self report studies show that 20% of adult females and 5 10% of adult males recall a childhood sexual assault or sexual abuse incident. In my opinion, this is horrifying and shocking to know that there are more people than one might think that have been through some sort of sexual assault or sexual abuse. I have never taken the time to learn about how dozens of children go through these traumatic and horror situations. Visiting orphanages when I travelled to India and China has impacted the way I see the other half ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Katherine peeked around the corner and watched Marlene kiss the driver passionately before waltzing across the doctor s parking lot. Unlocking the door the new red Mercedes, the raven haired beauty with a reputation for being high maintenance drove out of the parking lotand down the street. With her thoughts lingering on the last hours spent with her lover, Marlene entered the garage and breathed a sigh of relief when she failed to see her husband s car. Go ahead, and talk to Jerry, I don t care! I have no idea why Frank called my phone, Marlene said, My goodness, Mother. I ve only spoken to him a few times. If that is true, why do you park your Mercedes in different garages around town at least four days a week? Katherine asked. Surprised by what her mother said, Marlene asked, And just where did you get that information? I followed you and watched you park your car and get into another car, Katherine said. Oh, come on Mom, you were following the wrong car. I don t have the only red Mercedes in Jackson Heights. Good God, Mom! I would never jeopardize my family s happiness, Marlene said, sarcastically, waving her hands. Concerned with her daughter s happiness, Katherine said, Honey, don t expect me to remain silent and watch you destroy your family. Raising her voice, Marlene said, I love you, Mother, and I do expect you to keep your mouth shut. I swear I ll see you in your grave before you cause me trouble. I m warning you, leave it alone! • 8. Ranters And Utilitarianism political tool utilized by the prevailing English system to keep people in a state of subjugation and benightedness. These understandings of sin were not simply ideas; they were put into practice, resulting in Ranter communal activities (somewhat ritualistic in nature). Sexually promiscuous activities (ranging from sleeping with another man s wife to orgies), naked preaching, and cursing (specifically by Abiezer Coppe) became accepted and encouraged practices. The Ranter Laurence Clarkson believed his duty was to eat and drink, and to delight...all the days of [his] life. In many ways, the pantheistic beliefs and successive actions of the Ranters not only created, but also promoted the formation of an imagined community. • 10. Persuasive Essay On Call Of Duty Black Ops The feature in the popular game series Call of Duty black ops. Has had an increasing rate of sales in their game series Zombies with the DLC as well. Then people begin to argue that multiplayer is better because it s faster pace. But someone has taken a poll and Zombies won it and there were people supporting it in the comments.so you should think about which one you like more meanwhile i m giving you evidence on which one i prefer. In this paragraph I will be outlining the benefits of playing Zombies by yourself or with friends. You can go on and try to beat the map or try to learn it and how to beat it strategically and learn about the characters and their backstory. In addition there s a whole community out there to help you out with something if you need it or if you just want to make some friends in the community to play with. That is why I started to disband from that community plus everybody that I meet on their are always trash talking which gets annoying and start play story driven. People say that multiplayer is better than zombies which in my opinion is better. Because people playing don t need story when they play it. • 11. How Did Francisco Goya s Influence On Society One of the greatest artists in the history of art, Francisco Jose de Goya y Lucientes had his own and very peculiar life story that affected the way in which he viewed society in the different stages of his life. He became the pioneer of many new artistic tendencies that came about in the 19th century and his work extended over a period of 60 years in which he was both very acclaimed, and badly criticized. FranciscoGoya, artist whose different paintings, drawings, and engravings reflected contemporary historical upheavals, influenced many important painters in the centuries that have followed. Francisco Goya was born in March 30, 1749 in Zaragoza, Spain. At the age of 14 he was apprenticed to Jose Martin Luzan, who was a local ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was after this success and achievements that he began to be critical about society, more specifically after being left permanently deaf by a serious illness in 1792. As a result of his deafness he concentrated in the fantasies of his imagination, with critical and satirical observations of mankind. He was attracted to meditation and introspection. He stops seeing society as a group of good customs and starts thinking about its negative aspects as well. From these new ideas he evolved a bold, free style similar to caricature. In 1799 he published Caprichos, a series of etchings satirizing human folly and weakness. His portraits were now penetrating characterizations, revealing the subjects as Goya saw them. His religious portraits were now broad and free in style, with a realism which was unprecedented in religious art. This series was not intended for the same group of people as his earlier works, and so it had to be put away by orders from the Spanish Inquisition. • 13. What Is The Executive Branch Of Government According to the US Constitution, a successful government, particularly a democracy, must have six basic principals to function while keeping the people content and avoiding harsh dictatorship. These can be simplified into two main beliefs. Firstly, that the hands of the people, a vast majority of the people, hold the power of government. Secondly, that no one part or even all of the sections of government may have complete rule in the country. Popular sovereignty allows the majority of people to make decisions and change their country. This is very similar to the consent of the governed, which defines itself and is also needed to avoid people government conflicts. The executive branch is the central power of the government, the judiciary branch tries cases of law before punishment is handed (which is yet another principal of government), and the legislative branch creates and votes on laws. And each of these branches may overrule another in certain situations. For example, the head of the executive branch in the US, the president, may veto or do away with a law, but if the legislative branch has enough votes, they can keep that law anyway. • 14. The Rationality of Probabilities for Actions in Decision... The Rationality of Probabilities for Actions in Decision Theory ABSTRACT: Spohn s decision model, an advancement of Fishburn s theory, is valuable for making explicit the principle used also by other thinkers that any adequate quantitative decision model must not explicitly or implicitly contain any subjective probabilities for acts. This principle is not used in the decision theories of Jeffrey or of Luce and Krantz. According to Spohn, this principle is important because it has effects on the term of action, on Newcomb s problem, and on the theory of causality and the freedom of the will. On the one hand, I will argue against Spohn with Jeffrey that the principle has to be given up. On the other, I will try to argue against ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1969 Robert Nozick introduced Newcomb s problem to the philosophic community as a conflict between the principle of expected utility maximization and the principle of dominance. Nozick s introduction led to a Newcombmania (Levi 1982), because philosophers have decisively different opinions about the correct solution to this problem. The Newcombmania showed itself in the development of causal and evidential decision theories and other proposals. Because the evidential theories (for example Jeffrey 1965, 1983) do not use the principle, they cannot give a solution to Newcomb s problem in case you accept the principle. The causal theories which use subjunctive conditionals (for example Lewis 1981) are problematical, because they still have to provide a logic of subjunctive conditionals, a probability theory for subjunctive conditionals and a corresponding decision theory. Because Skyrms (1980) causal theory and Kyburg s (1980) proposal of epistemic vs. stochastic independence also don t use the principle, only Spohn s solution (1978) to Newcomb s problem is left. This solution which recommends taking both boxes is valuable for its simplicity in contrast to the theories with subjunctive conditionals. According to Spohn it is a mistake to use probabilities conditionalized on actions for the results of the prediction, if the prediction is earlier than the choice. The Importance Of Self Improvement And The Value Of Education The importance of self improvement and the value of education A person is not defined by their past and the mistakes that they have made. They are defined by what obstacles they have gone through and overcome in order to grow into the person that they are today. Without struggle, there is no progress. No one can self improve unless they are willing and able to overcome the challenges of life. Two important morals in my life are : always making the room to self improve, and valuing my education. Through my American story, I plan to share how I learned to appreciate the meaning of education, and the importance of improving and bettering myself. Guest presentations and readings of other American s narratives this semester, such as the presentation by David Delizza, Gary Shtyengart s novel Super Sad True Love Story, The Narrative of Frederick Douglass , and The chicken in the hen house by David Sedaris, all have made a further emphasis on aspects relevant to my life and my own story as an American. David Delizza, one of our guest speakers, provided excellent advice on the topics of self improvement and education. In David s opinion, education and self improvement are extremely important, and are two factors that have helped him to accomplish many goals in life. Japanese Internment Camps During World War II The decision to relocate Japanese Americans to internment camps during World War II was an impurity in the United States reputation for maintaining democracy and individual rights. When the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor during World War II, great hysteria spread through the United States, urging President Roosevelt to pass the now infamous Executive Order 9066, ordering the removal of all people of Japanese American descent. More than 100,000 people were displaced and their lives were changed forever (Tremayne). Sending students into annual standardized tests, like the Algebra 1 End of course exam, without quality daily assessments, often end with students being placed in remedial courses the following year. The continual use of giving students failing unit test grades, unsatisfactory semester exams that fail them for the semester, and no daily feedback, does not prepare students for mastery of essential Algebra 1 material. Countless studies show that the way teachers teach and students are assessed needs to change. In this study, it was statistically determined that daily formative assessments fostered a significant positive impact on student performance between a pre test and a post test. Juvenile crime has many factors that influences the United States and makes people want to stop it. Juvenile crime is an issue that needs to be stopped. Juvenile crimecan be a danger to many people. Juvenile crime had a strong uprising when conditions within the society got worse. Research over the past few decades on normal child development and development on delinquent behavior has shown that individual, social, and community conditions and interactions influence behavior(McCord). This says that in bad environments in the community the children that live there are more likely to be an individual with juvenile delinquency. Clearly, genes affect biological development, but there is no biological development without environmental input, Bock and Goode (McCord, 66). This quote says that environmental interaction develops kids, so kids that interact with a bad environment can end up in a worse position than other kids [what other kids? Kids from a good environment? JMH]. The age can influence whether or not a child will be a juvenile delinquent. Studies of criminal activity by age constantly find that rates of offending begin to rise in pre adolescence or early adulthood(McCord). This says that juvenile crime usually starts when the children are teens or entering their puberty years. This can be a big deal because that age is usually when kids are influenced more easily. The percentage of boys who self reported serious delinquent behavior rose from 5 percent at age 6 to about 18 percent at age 16 for whites and 27 percent for blacks at age 16. Loeber (McCord,68). This says that delinquent behavior and crime rose for each race at the age of 16. The family influence also plays a big role for a child if the child is going to be a delinquent or not. (Damon Hart, 1988) Questions like Who am I? and What is my Purpose? Have perplexed humanities greatest philosophers; the complexity of these questions has even created a study of purpose; Teleology, the study of purpose. John Locke held that personal identity is a matter of psychological continuity. He considered the self to be founded on consciousness and not on the substance of either the soul or the body. • 34. Theme Of Clothing In Macbeth In William Shakespeare s Macbeth, Shakespeare utilizes clothing to demonstrate two main ideas related to Macbeth s psyche. He first uses the motif of clothing to symbolize power, and later to show that dress can be used as a mask to cover up evil beings and deeds. Shakespeare utilizes the recurring image of clothing to emphasize the change in power in Scotland, the difference of nobles opinions, and the poor shift in the ruler. In Act 1 Scene III, the imagery of clothing is predominant and demonstrates Macbeths change in title. Once Angus, a Scottish noble, reports to Macbeth that he has earned the title of Thane of Cawdor, he says The Thane of Cawdor lives. Why do you dress me / In borrowed robes? (1. 3. 110 111) He is in disbelief that the witches first prophecy has come true and questions his title. Shakespeare utilizes the clothing imagery to emphasize that from this particular moment in Macbeth s life, both his personality and psyche are about to undergo a drastic change, by transforming into a man blinded by his ambition for power. Later, while Angus explains why he is receiving this title, he unintentionally foreshadows Macbeth s future: Who was the thane lives yet, But under heavy judgment bears that life Which he deserves to lose. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . For example, if I overheard a conversation by a CEO (or even if the CEO told me directly) revealing a morsel of information pertaining to their business that had not become available to the public yet, that would be an illegal piece of information to trade on. On the other hand, if I went to that CEO s business every day and interviewed their customers or managers and my efforts turned up the same information, that information would be absolutely legal to trade on because it was the product of research even though it is the same exact information that was obtained by the CEO in the first place. Victimless Crime There is no guarantee that there is always a victim of insider trading, more often than not, there is actually no victim at all. When a person trades on the market, whether using legally obtained information or illegally obtained information, they have no idea who is on the receiving end of their trade. That person trading does not in any way have a direct impact on other people and whether or not they are interested in buying or selling and that does not matter whether it is legally obtained information or illegally obtained information or whether the trading party profits or loses. • 36. Talk Therapy For Depression Or Bipolar Disorder ( Manic... Psychotherapy (also known as talk therapy) can be an important part of treatment for depression or bipolar disorder (manic depression). A good therapist can help you cope with feelings and symptoms, and change behavior patterns that may contribute to your illness. Talk therapy is not just talking about your problems ; it is also working toward solutions. Some therapy may involve homework, such as tracking your moods, writing about your thoughts, or participating in social activities that have caused anxiety in the past. You might be encouraged to look at things in a different way or learn new ways to react to events or people. Most of today s psychotherapy is brief and focused on your current thoughts, feelings and life issues. Focusing on the past can help explain things in your life, but focusing on the present can help you cope with the present and prepare for the future. You might see your therapist more often at the beginning of treatment, and later, as you learn to manage problems and avoid triggers, you might go to psychotherapy appointments less often. Psychotherapy can help you: Understand your illness; define and reach wellness goals; overcome fears or insecurities; cope with stress; make sense of past traumatic experiences; separate your true personality from the mood swings caused by your illness; identify triggers that may worsen your symptoms; improve relationships with family and friends; establish a stable, dependable routine; develop a plan for ... • 38. Subliminal Messages In Advertising Advertising Using Subliminal Messages to Promote Food Products There have been studies showing how subject s mood and behavior changed when exposed to subliminal messages. These studies have looked at if subliminal messages could influence our desires (Benoit Tomas, 1992). Advertising agencies really benefit from subliminal messages because of the affects they cause. In a study by Talbot and Duberstein (1991), they revealed that subjects who are exposed to subliminal food messages were more likely to eat than subjects who were not. This research can help other people to know what to watch and what not to watch. This literature review will look at how subliminal messages in advertising (such as commercials, billboards, magazine ads, etc.) can change our behavior and/or mood and it will also look at how this could affect our eating habits. This is an important question because we are exposed to it all the time and we need to know how it s affecting our lives. Literature Review Treimer and Simonson (1988) did a study where they took a handful of undergraduate and graduate students who responded to their ads. The study measured how much weight the participants lost after watching a certain video. Half the participants were to watch a video that had some sort of subliminal message in them. The period leading up to the Civil War, however, did not see a society ready to change, and thus, little work was done towards the women s rights movement. Based on premise alone, the story is a tale of a strong female protagonist seeking rightful revenge for the complete and utter destruction of her life up to that point and betrayal by her former teammates. Tarantino uses the violence as a narrative plot point as each encounter with the members of the groups serves to grow the protagonist both in skill and character as it culminates to her fight in Volume 1 with Oren Ishii. The audience is set to sympathize with the protagonist from the very beginning thus providing an excuse for the extreme violence she displays further into the movie. There are two sides to the argument of same sex adoption, and to really get a feel for the issue you must understand both sides. Both sides agree that what they want is what s best for the kids.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Dr. Prasad raised question on the issue, he was asked to stay off because the other doctors claimed that medical doctors should stay off the topic of rising costs of drugs in the medical industry. This conflict can have a drastic effect on the patients and the other people in the organization. For one reason, the patients will be convinced to purchase the drugs that are being advertised over other products that could better suit them and may take longer to heal and will have to pay a lot more money thus affecting their financial stability, given that health care costs are forever on the rise.
