Stop Language Assignment
Assignment Instructions: Develop a routine to identify and remove stop words Implement a porter
stemmer to stem the tokens processed by your indexer routine. Remove (do not process) any term that
begins with a punctuation character Determine the term frequency (tft,d) for each unique term in each
document in the collection to be included in the inverted index. Determine the document frequency
(dft) which is a count of the number of documents from within the collection that each unique inverted
index term appears in. Calculate the inverse document frequency using the following formula: idft =
log(N/dft) o The N in this formula refers to the number of documents that exist in the collection.
When using the corpus small document collection N will be 41 as there are 41 documents in the
collection. Calculate the tf idf weighting using the following formula: tf idftd = tft,d × idft The ...

What I was able to complete begins after line 336, after the imported provided stemmer code. You will
see in the included Python file that I included an array of stop words which I built based on one of the
many suggested lists of stop words you can find online (List of Stop Words, 2018). I also included an
array of punctuation used to identify any tokens that started with any punctuation. I created two
dictionaries to keep track of the terms and documents with an associated ID. Starting at line 424, is the
code to perform the token stemming, removal of stop words, and removal of tokens that start with
punctuation. As part of this, I tracked the number of unique terms that were removed by the stop
words and also added code to output a .dat file of the stopped words. I also had this stop and
punctuation.dat file include the tokens that were removed for punctuation. The punctuation tokens
were not tracked as unique stop words that were removed and reported along with the other program

n Africa block of Islam that is estimated at being the fourth largest community of Muslims in the
world. Out of 4,600,000 inhabitants there are less than 2,000 followers of Christ that exist within their
ranks, making this group of Christians less than 0.05% of the population. With the majority of Kanuri
being Orthodox Sunni Muslims, and having a strong belief in their Muslims faith stand to reason why

Kanuri. Whereas, from these studies some information lead to several things that need to be taken into
considered in the attempt to convert the Kanuri people to Christianity: 1. The Kanuri are said to be a
primitive people. They have very little access to modern technology. They live strictly of what they
grow and sell themselves. 2. The literacy rate of Kanuri is very low; Base of on this low rate they are
dependent on oratorical communication. Only ten percent of the population can read, because of this
disability they learning comes from storytelling in order to pass down traditions and knowledge. 3.

Constitutional Law Vs Federal Law
The U.S. Constitution is the supreme law of the country that establishes the 3 branches of government
executive, legislative and judicial. Constitutional law establishes the framework that gives the
legislative body the ability to establish laws. It also serves as a protection of our fundamental rights,
by not allowing government to overreach its authority. Each of the 50 states is sovereign with its own
executive, legislative and judicial branches. This allows each state to maintain its individuality and
govern its people accordingly. However, should a conflict between state and federal law arise then the
Supremacy Clause, found in Article VI of the Constitution, states that state laws must yield to federal
acts. Legislative law determines

Persuasive Essay On Racism In Sports
Racism is prevalent in today s society and is exposed in the sports industry as well. Various athletes in
different sports field experience racism and face it everyday. Social media is a big platform for people
to criticize athletes for their failures and success. On the other hand more times than not, racism can
be found within the head of organizations of major sports, most noticeably football. The NFL has
condoned an abundance of racist actions towards players of Hispanic and African American descent;
therefore, the NFL should stop these problems by supporting athletes that take a stand, holding the
NFL owners accountable for their actions, and finally, not stereotyping young black athletes into a
position based off of racial factors. An organization like the NFL needs to support their athletes when
they decide to exercise their 1st amendment rights. For example, a current event that has ravished the
mainstream media would be over the controversy with Colin Kaepernick. There are 64 quarterbacks
total in the NFL at the time, Kaepernick not being one of them. At the end of the season Kaepernick
had a passer rating of 90.7 (ESPN, 2016) . That was better than ten starting quarterbacks in the league
at that time. Also, to add to his resume he only threw four interceptions during the season. His stats
prove that he s a proven NFL starter and his trip to the Superbowl in 2013 are examples of why he
should be added to any NFL roster. Why isn t he on a roster? It s primarily

The General Theory Of Employment, Interest, And Money
In the renowned work, The General Theory of Employment, Interest, and Money John Maynard
Keynes breaks down his general theory of mercantilism and free trade into seven different section.
Each section talking about his opposition to economic theorists and his views on the advantage of
having an adaptable and well prepared system to maintain an efficient economy.
In his first argument he starts off by explaining how for the past one hundred years there has been a
remarkable divergence of opinion between practical men and economic theorists (Chapter 23, I).
Unlike the economic theorists the practical men favor mercantilism, an economic system set around
strict government regulations in order to unify a nation in hopes to increase monetary ... Show more

Which states that most new investments are either home investments, which can eventually be
governed, or foreign investment, which is determined by balance trade. The two investments together
make up aggregate investment, which is the sum of all expenditures on investment. As he moves on he
argues that If the domestic rate of interest falls...the increase in the domestic level of costs will begin
to react unfavorably on the balance of foreign trade (Chapter 23, II). Causing an influx in a country s
increasing costs and falling rates leads to another country s fall in cost and rise in rates. Mercantilists
who were accused of opposing trade restrictions later realized that favorable balance of trade was
more efficient. However, Keynes makes a great argument in that he states that the fact that the
advantage which our own country gains from a favorable balance is liable to involve an equal
disadvantage to some other country (Chapter 23, II). So it is important that economists and
government officials make better and educated decisions that helps maintain a nations economy.
The third and fourth section of Keynes argument brings up multiple references to other economists
and professors on their views of mercantilism. In his reference to an article from Professor Heckscher,
who believes that the mercantilists policy killed two birds with one stone (Chapter 23, III). Keynes

Usefulness and Reliability of Information Provided By...
An ongoing concern in financial reporting is the usefulness and reliability of information provided by
corporations. The financial accounting standard board defines usefulness as the information that is
useful for the users in decision making (FASB, 2011). Reliability is inferred when the information is
verified, objective, and can be relied on. Therefore, Statement of Financial Accounting Standards No.
157 standardizes the valuation and disclosure of fair value for assets and liabilities in order to achieve
both usefulness and reliability. The reasoning for the hierarchy was due to the inconsistency in
previous definitions and guidance (FASB, 1992).
Introduction to Fair Value Hierarchy
To begin, SFAS defines fair value as the value ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
SFAS Relating to the Conceptual Framework
The framework for measuring fair value is easy to understand and follow, and relates to the conceptual
framework. As stated earlier the preferred measure of fair value is the market approach, because the
prices are observable. For this reason the standard recognizes the need for relevant, reliable, and
comparable information in order for users to make better decisions about the current financial position
of a company. Financial readers are aware of the valuing measurement used to calculate the fair value,
whether the measurement were derived from an observable or unobservable input. The measurement
establishes the existence of reliable and relevance qualitative factors that make accounting information
useful for decision making (Barbera, 2007). If it were observable then the value derived can be
researched and verified. However, if it were unobservable then the user must read the disclosures
which will be discussed later in the research paper, and determine the reliability of the internally
generated measurement. In return it can be understood that the level 1 inputs are more reliable and
relevant than the other two levels.
In addition, the fair value hierarchy also enhances the comparability and consistency of information
among companies due to following practices: all companies must

What Is Instruction Is Through Personal Learning...
CHAPTER ONE: INTRODUCTION
Introduction
The goal of any educator is to meet students where they are and help them grow academically. Since
students do not all learn in the same manner, differentiated instruction is needed to meet the diverse
needs of students today. One way to differentiate instruction is through personal learning
environments (PLEs). PLEs are platforms that help learners manage and take control of their learning;
they are a combination of tools, communities, and services that help learners direct their own learning
and reach educational goals. PLEs help students develop autonomy and it prepares them for lifelong
learning. Implementing PLEs in a public school could help to close gaps between low performing
students ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
PLEs employ different tools that help manage learning. For example, portfolios or e portfolios allows
learners to house completed work and share that work with teachers as needed. Collaboration tools
allow learners to connect with one another on social networking sites in order to work together to
complete projects and other assignments. Managing and planning tools allow learners to create to do
lists set goals. Journals, such as blogs, help learners record and reflect on their work. Last, a content
repository affords students the opportunity to keep videos, websites, and/or shared files. These
different tools are not independent of each other; they may be intertwined and interchangeable.
Learners use PLEs that are most beneficial to them and at times that are most conducive for their
schedule. In order for PLEs to be effective, educators must help learners develop the skills to be an
autonomous learner.
Learning management systems traditionally provide structures to guide online learners to achieve their
learning goals (Tu, Sujo Montes, Yen, Chan, Blocher, 2012, p. 13). Technologies, such as Web 2.0,
allow learners to create, share, and organize PLEs in open network environments. In addition, this
platform allows students to collaborate and engage in social networking. According to Tu et al.,
educators integrate Web 2.0 technologies to support online learning management system (LMS)

Machiavelli vs Islamic Political Thought
Machiavelli vs Islamic Political Thought Niccolo Machiavelli was a political realist. He thought there
were certain skills and characteristics needed to become a political ruler. In his work, The Prince,
Machiavelli gives advice on how to be a successful prince, or ruler. Successful is partly based on how
powerful a ruler was during his lifetime (reign), but largely based on how much the prince affected the
lives, through laws or societal norms, of future generations. Machiavelli was mainly interested in
attaining and keeping political power. He believed people were inherently selfish and would, by
nature, not respect the law or work for the common good, without civic virtues. The only way to
‘control these human urges was to instill ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regardless of how good a ruler Borgia was though, when the time came to install a new pope and it
wasn t his father, Borgia fell short and was no longer the ruler. While Machiavelli seemed to put no
stock in the role of the citizen in determining a ruler, he thought rulers could protect their power by
evoking the love of their people. But even this isn t enough all the time, because of the question
always asked by citizens of its government, what have you done for me lately. The ruler must protect
the citizens property, prosperity, family, and well being. For people to lead happy, full lives, they must
be allowed to do what they want, within the guidelines of a state. But this is a cycle easier to maintain,
than to begin. For people to do as they wish, there must be guidelines in place, but for guidelines to be
established, people have to know what they want to do and what they are unable to do. Here is the
reason governments were built in the first place. The group of people chose someone to establish
guidelines, because people wanted more than they had. This is the real purpose of a ruler, to help
establish a society. Machiavelli was consumed with rulers having and keeping power, by whatever
force necessary. This seems to contradict what he is saying about the common good and civic virtues.
If the ruler is only interested in power, what care would he have for the people? None, it seems to me.
According to Ian Johnston, The Prince was more than just a feeble

Great white sharks (Carcharodon carcharias) are very fascinating creatures. Did you know their
skeleton is completely made of cartilage? Great whites have a blue grey dorsal which helps them
blend in with the ocean when being viewed. They also have a white belly which makes it difficult to
view them from below because of the blinding sunlight from above. Can you believe that great whites

United States. They are found in less numbers around Brazil, the Azores, the Caribbean, eastern
Africa, northwestern Africa, Madagascar, the Seychelles, Mauritius, northern Australia, Sri Lanka,
New Caledonia, the Philippines, and Hawaii. Great whites can swim as deep as 820 feet. Did you
know that great whites can t sleep? They have to have water pass through their gills slits, so they slow
down to rest while swimming.
Most great white sharks live at the areas colored in red.
Pups
Female great whites give birth to baby great whites called pups. They give birth to 1 10 pups at a time.
Pups average 5 feet in length when born. The female s eggs hatch inside her. The newly hatched pups
(great whites) feed on the unfertilized eggs inside the womb. Believe it or not, once the pup is born, it
is able to take care of itself. It immediately swims away from its mother and lives its own life. Great
whites can live up to 70 years of age.
Fun Facts
Great white sharks live on the coasts of all the continents except Antarctica.
Great white sharks often have scratches and scars on their snouts.
Great white sharks are capable of rolling their eyes back.

Rhetoric and Stereotype Essay
Stereotype is a sweeping statement standardized image about a person or group with little or no
evidence. The primary purpose is to hurt one s feelings or to attack one s character. Have you ever
stereotyped someone or felt like you were being stereotyped against? How did being stereotyped
affect you, or how did it make you feel once you got to know the person or persons? All kind of
people make up our society. Within society, there are a massive amount of groups, most of which have

Michael Moncur once said, Politicians are the same all over. They promise to build a bridge even
where there is no river. Moreover politicians often stereotype against each other by using derogatory
implications, innuendos along with a series of fallacies to personally attack their opponent. For
instance: Democrat is seldom spoken without the term tax and spend it is usually attached before or
after that term is spoken. Naturally, it is used to stir already biased emotions against an issue with an
appropriate number of convenient facts to provide legitimacy to the argument. In the political world,
one group may call another group s beliefs unpatriotic or disloyal. All they really mean is that they
disapprove of those ideas. Depending on the seriousness of the debate and level of frustration, the
greater the rhetorical definitions, analogies, and explanations along with associated arguments from
outrage real or staged. From either position, many arguments are arguments of tradition using the
same catch phrases and hyperboles with maximum of well placed dysphemia. (Moore Parker, 2007,
pp.133, 507) Turning to Ad Hominem fallacies; these are not errors they are used deliberately to attach
slanted claims to a group or persons to inculcate into the listener a distorted and negative view of their
target, namely, whoever opposes them. (Moore Parker, 2007, pp.173 179) What caused citizens

is the 100th year anniversary of Our Lady s appearance at Fatima. However, what is being emphasized
in the wondrous Vatican is the celebration of the heresiarch Luther s rebellion against the Church. The
historical revisionists and modernists in the Vatican are trying their best to transform chicken scat into
chicken salad. Luther is being touted as a reformer of the Church. Cardinal Kurt Koch stated: Luther

Gradualism coupled with the false catechesis with regard to the nature and potency of conscience has

that some of the practitioners of AC and those who revert to direct abortion may be subjectively

directly attributed to the lack of catechesis on the part of bishops, priests and deacons who are charged

Abstract
Albert Bandura is one of the pioneers in the study of human development. His biographical
background lays a good foundation for the basis of his work as a psychologist. His social cognitive
theory will be examined in detail to highlight the effect that environment has on behavior. There are
four basic features to the theory introduced by Bandura that will be discussed; (1) observational
learning, (2) self regulation, (3) self efficacy, and (4) reciprocal determinism. All four features
combined will prove to offer a keen insight into the environmental aspect of our behavior.

As a young graduate student, instead of spending one of his Sunday s on school work, he decided to
enjoy a round of golf. After he and a friend arrived late for an original tee time, they were bumped to a
later time slot. It was then that they found themselves playing behind two female golfers who were
playing relatively slow. The two men decided to join the ladies, and in doing so, the relationship
between Albert Bandura and Ginny Varns was sparked. The two married, and eventually had two
daughters who became the product of a chance encounter. Bandura earned his master s degree in 1951,
and had a PhD in clinical psychology by the end of the following year at the young age of 27. Once
his academic education was complete, he chose to spend a year in Wichita, Kansas involved in an
internship at the Wichita Guidance Center. In 1953, he joined the faculty at Stanford University in
Palo Alto, California where he has remained to this day. Bandura wrote several publications early in
his career. Most of these dealt with clinical psychology, and were primarily focused on psychotherapy
and the Rorschach test. Then in 1958, he chose to collaborate with the late Richard H. Walters on a
paper that centralized on the theme of aggressive delinquents. Walters was actually Bandura s first
doctoral student at Stanford. One year later, their book, Adolescent Aggression, was published. During

Out of all of the topics that we went over in over the course of the Sister to Sister class, the one that

because you cannot even begin to form a sense of community or delve into higher education
successfully without a keen awareness of self. This phenomenon is stated beautifully with, an ongoing
commitment to developing the self is paramount to the establishment of an identity that is centered

I have felt myself being the token friend speaking out about all things controversial in groups of white
friends, I have made myself seem more or less black depending on the situation, I have silenced
myself in classrooms, and I have sighed in relief in circles of my black friends. I read an article that I

could relate to it all. It spoke about white people being so privileged that they do not move out of the

The Pros And Cons Of The Industrial Food Industry
As Gliessman, an agricultural researcher, says in Agroecology, conventional agriculture is built around
two related goals: the maximization of production and the maximization of profit. In pursuit of these
goals, a host of practices have been developed without regard for their unintended, long term
consequences (3). The industrial food industry has created a process to produce as many crops as
possible in the quickest amount of time to put onto the market. The several ways utilized to achieve
these goals are those that are harmful to the consumer. Two main threats are genetic modification, and
chemicals. These issues are a spark of concern in addressing the health of consumers. Food industries
often try to tantalize their audience with the promise of untouched, pristine produce when in reality
these foods are heavily tainted by pesticides or are genetically modifieds. One will find this
obliviousness represented in virgin purity in the advertisements of the food industry, in which food
wears as much makeup as the actors. If one s whole knowledge of food from these advertisements,
one would not know that the various edibles were ever living creatures, or that they all come from the
soil... (Berry 147). People are informed little about the pesticides that we often ingest from products
like these and little do people know the negative effects of GMOs. Later in Agroecology, it s stated
that in its 2003 edition of Human Exposure to Environmental Chemicals, the Centers for

conch shell that the boys find as soon as they crash on the island. Once the shell s lost, almost all hope
for civilization and being rescued is gone. When the novel starts, two boys discuss about what has

Ralph, who is described as a fair haired boy, finds a shell that the two boys call the conch . When
Ralph blows into the conch, it assembles a meeting where the boys lay out rules and decide they need

Research Paper On Elizabeth Barrett Browning
The Lovesick Poet: Elizabeth Browning
In 1806 at Coxhoe Hall in Durham, England, a new poet of the Romantic movement was born.
Elizabeth Barrett Browning was born to an over controlling father, Edward Moulton Barrett, and a late
mother, Mary Moulton Barrett. Elizabeth s parents provided her and her ten younger siblings with
very sophisticated lives. Their estate, Hope End, was described by a local newspaper as adapted for
the accommodation of a nobleman or family of the first distinction (Elizabeth Barrett Browning). The
house was a five hundred acre estate founded on the wealth accumulated from the family s sugar
plantations in Jamaica. This wealth, however was not to last.

Despite her father s rigidness, he was very supportive of Elizabeth s poetry. She published The
Seraphim and Other Poems in 1838, which was the first volume of mature poetry to appear under her
own name . Later, her health took a bad turn and her physician convinced Elizabeth to move to a
warmer climate. With her favorite brother, Edward, she left to live in Torquay. Edward drowned in a
river later that year, and the grief caused Elizabeth to return to England. Elizabeth spent the next five
years lamented over her brother s death and became an invalid and a recluse. In the sixth year after
Edward s death, she published her 1844 Poems. This publication made her one of the most popular
poets in the area and inspired Robert Browning, to write to her. Even though he was six years her
junior, they began a famous courtship and eloped to Italy in 1846. After the marriage, Elizabeth s

The Impossibility of Governmental Regulation on Healthcare...
At this particular stage, it is impossible for governmental entities to effectively regulate each and
every instance of health care service. This facet is particularly true for cases of international health
care services. There are several different types of health care services provided for international
travelers. The lack of effective regulation of these services can actually aid a number of different
consumers in different ways.
For instance, the entity known as Traveler s Health can potentially aid consumers by awarding health
services and benefits to those who are not American citizens. The services and products of this entity
are supposed to be exclusively reserved for U.S. citizens. If individuals can falsify documents to fake
their status as an American, they can then claim some of these benefits.
Also, in instances in which there are American travelers who have been overseas for a substantial
length of time, once their paperwork and credentials expire, they would no longer be eligible to
receive these services. A regulatory oversight of this fact would enable such travelers (or expatriates in
this instance) to continue to receive these benefits.
Another purpose of this particular entity is to promote the clinical practice of travel medicine (Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention, 2011). Legitimate U.S. citizens who qualify for the attainment of
such medicine could potentially acquire it and supply it to locals if there were oversight in regulations

Television As The Useful Tool For Children
TV as the Useful Tool for Children
In the modern household, TV is one of the most common electronic devices to have. There are
countless entertaining TV programs for children on many different channels everyday. Watching TV is
the easiest way to entertain children at home. With just one push on the remote controler, it is not
complicated for even young children to turn on the TV and find their favorite shows without parent s
help. TV shows for children are made for making children to stay on the channel or to watch the same
show again, so it likely leads children to be addicted to TV. In fact, many families try to get rid of the
TV or lessen the TV time for children to avoid the addiction. Although TV can affect children
negatively, there are also many quality programs for children. TV can provide educational contents,
fun family time, and relaxation time for children and family. If parents use TV wisely, TV will benefit
children and their family. A lot of TV programs are educational for children and parents. When people
from old to young adults talk about their favorite educational show on TV, most of them will mention
Sesame Street. It has been on TV since 1969, teaching children language, numbers, music, social
skills, and cultures. Parents have no doubt about showing Sesame Street to their children because
parents know that the show is educational and safe for young children. The Magic School Bus series is

Doing Business In China Summary
Prior to reading the Harvard Business Review on Doing Business in China, I assumed that business
was a universal thing around the world. I assumed that business was the same in all countries. I
assumed that every country had the same end goals when it came to business. As a result, I assumed
that all countries followed a similar template for how business negotiations work. I was under the
assumption that business was all about numbers and money; I didn t expect to see so much energy
focused on creating relationships. I originally assumed China was a very strict and numbers based
country when it came to business. In my mind, China was this giant country where everything is made
and manufactured at a lower price. As a result, I assumed that ... Show more content on

This lesson that I learned is one that will help me in many of my future classes. I look forward to

One of my favorite parts of this book was learning about how advertising differs in China. In America,
advertising is flashy. Many advertisements feature celebrities in hopes of gaining consumers attention.
Americans buy products they see celebrities using in hopes of becoming more like the famous people
they see using the products. This is very different from advertising in China. In China, ads place a
large focus on the facts. Product advertisements include the features and specifications of a product.
People in China want to know what the product is, how it is used and how it works. There is less of an
emphasis on trying to make a products look cool instead the goal is to show the product and help it

Logos Of Dr Pepper Ad
Abstract The Dr. Pepper TEN advertisement is selling a new low calorie version of Dr. Pepper that
appeals to men. A diet soda has traditionally been viewed as a drink for females as they are constantly

the manly design and expressive slogan It s not for women that sounds very persuasive. The
commercial portrays two manly men in the masculine environment driving on an all terrain vehicle in

reason to buy the product is drink Dr. Pepper TEN and you will be a manly men. The only logical
information is the number of calories and flavours in Dr. Pepper TEN. To stress that the soda is not a
diet one and still has calories, both Ten and 10 are mentioned. Pathos appeals to the audience s
emotions [1]. This commercial, as any other one, is full of pathos trying to sell masculinity . The
language used in the advertisement attempts to trigger emotions in younger males telling them that
they will feel manly if they drink this soda. Capital letters of the tagline and the word women , which
is highlighted, intensify the enthusiasm in an attempt to attack its audience emotionally. The can
containing Dr. Pepper logotype also visually appeals to men. The design, colours and font are plain
and simple. Ethos denotes credibility of the author and relies on its reputation [1]. It also refers to the
reputation of the brand or association with something iconic. In this commercial there is no other ethos
than just Dr. Pepper by itself that is successful and popular brand. The whole advertisement is viewed

adherents remember history, express conviction, and grow in devotion. Certain rituals are performed
daily, like prayer; and others are practiced annually, like those aligned with specific Islamic holidays.
With having quite a few practices within a religion adherents understand the great importance of
properly performing these rituals and practices. The five Pillars of Islam are five practices regarded by
all sects of the Islamic religion as key factors of the Muslim faith. Considered as an obligation for

Evaluation Of A Use Case Analysis
6.0 USE CASE ANALYSIS
The Use Case analysis is a method which focuses highly on the systems functional Requirements and
when completed will consist of a Use Case Model. The model consists of actors, Use cases, use case
scenarios and other criteria which helps represents the use case. Within a use case Model there are
many relationships (generalization, include and extends) which help represent the flow and
functionality of the system and its entity s.
A Use case describes the behaviour of a process within a system and usually has relationships with
actors (external sources who interact with system). A Use Case scenario is identifying the specific
executions carried out during a Use Case and these help create and gather requirements.

Pascal’s Wager vs. the Ontological Argument
Pascal s Wager vs. the Ontological Argument
Pascal s Wager was a groundbreaking theory posed by the French philosopher, mathematician, and
physicist Blaise Pascal. Pascal, who is said to be the father of modern probability, felt that that religion
should be approached as a gamble. It was one of the first efforts to incorporate the concept of infinity.
The wager stated that, even though the existence of God cannot be determined through reason, one
should wager as though God exists, because living accordingly, has essentially nothing to lose and
experiences can only be beneficial. Pascal s Wager consists of three arguments. The first is the
argument from super dominance. Pascal wrote: God is, or He is not. But to which side shall we ...

Additionally, he suggests that even if the chance of God existing was a slim one, the reward for
believing is an infinite one (Heaven). Therefore one can conclude that it would just be unwise to doubt
God because one could chance missing out on a substantially enormous reward. Though Pascal s
Wager seems to be a fairly simple concept it has earned many weaknesses, specifically nine. Most of
these stem from the bible, the first being whether believing God is sufficient for salvation because the
bible implies that salvation is dependent on good deeds, baptism, repentance, etc. There is also the
question that involves the matter of which God to believe in. Christians believe in Jesus, God, and the
Holy Spirit meanwhile Muslims believe in Allah also, the Scriptures and the Qur an differ greatly.
Additionally, one must ask if human belief matters at all, and whether heaven really is the ultimate
greatness. Perhaps the biggest arguments are whether one can make themselves believe if they truly
are doubtful, and how do we know God s criteria for salvation? Pascal, himself, would ask whoever is
reading his works to analyze his position and imagine themselves in it. If one truly cannot decide the
matter of God s existence, then a coin toss is the only remaining option. However, placing a wager is

The past decades were marked by the rapid development of the technology and the Internet. Such
rapid development has enabled the development of many other modern methods and approaches, such
as virtual learning environment (VLE), i.e. learning via the Internet []. A virtual learning environment
allows learners and all others engaged in education and teaching to free themselves from the
limitations of time and space, and carry out learning interactions in a flexible timeframe and virtual

It is important to highlight the deference between the virtual learning environment and the virtual
campus, which people usually equate. The virtual campus relates just to the University courses, while
the virtual learning environment relates to many other sectors. Also, if we are talking about the VLE
intended just for the university education, the virtual campus covers a set of courses which is in the

English language learner (ELL) students (State of Hawaii Department of Education, 2014). Also,
according to the U.S. Department of Education (n.d.), in the 2012 2013 school year, there were

Gunpowder Revolutionized Medieval Europe And The End Of...
The introduction of gunpowder revolutionized medieval Europe and hastened the decline of the knight
and the end of the medieval style of warfare. Prior to this, all medieval weapons depended on the
strength of the user to operate; from the largest most complex torsion and gravity driven siege
machines to a poor farmer s dirk, all weapons used human strength. While siege weapons would be
dependent on leverage and a ratcheting mechanism to draw a rope to prime a ballista or ready a
mangonel, other weapons like a traditional war bow would be dependent on raw brute strength.
As opponents and fortifications became better protected, the performance of traditional weapons

Peasants were essentially treated as cannon fodder marching into battles in hordes armed with farming
implements and small knives. Other weapons were expensive and limited by monarchies. Knights in
contrast were treated with the utmost respect and wore protective steel mail and plates. Due to the
expectation that knights would furnish all of their own equipment, training and horses, the knightly
class became almost exclusively filled with rich nobles and aristocrats. Archers proved to be highly
effective but the skill took a lifetime to master and arrows needed to be shot at close range to be
capable of penetrating knight s armor. Furthermore, archers were vulnerable to charge while they
reloaded.
Despite later results, gunpowder did not immediately revolutionize European armies, rather it took
time for the technology to advance to the point that it could surpass traditional technologies. Overtime
gunpowder granular size, production method and ingredient proportions changed as medieval era
scientists experimentally determined what specific methods produced the best quality cannon and
handgun powder. It wasn t just the gunpowder that needed refinement, the weapons using also needed
change.
Initial gunpowder weapons were poorly designed and highly ineffective killing instruments. In the
beginning, they offered no performance improvement over a traditional crossbow which limited their
utilization by militaries.

The, Matthew, And The Quran
Our Interpretation is Our Reality When an author begins to write a book they usually have a certain
purpose in mind. They might want to convey a message or simply entertain their reader. In the three
Abrahamic texts that we read; Genesis, Matthew, and the Quran, some would argue that the author s
purpose was to create a blueprint for how humans should live their lives; a rather daunting and
consequential task. The main problem is written text, and especially text that was written in 1,400 BC,
and based off of ideals and traditions that date back even further, in the Bibles case, is it s going to
seem outdated and may often be misread or misrepresented. A simple sentence even in modern times
can be twisted and bent to mean just about anything. Ask our politicians. Now think about what could
happen to the meaning and form of ancient text after being rewritten and translated so numerous
times. Human interpretation is key to understanding how misrepresentation has occurred in these
texts. Every person ever to be born into this world is completely different. That means their thoughts,
their values, their morals, and just about everything having to do with them is unique. This being said,
it is no wonder that when two people from opposite sides of the world read an ambiguous text, of
which, it s sole purpose is to govern how we live our lives, there might be some disagreement. This is
why context is so important. If the reader happened to be, say, a Russian person living in a

There was considerable labour unrest and strikes were common. There were also occasional bomb

This theory is what eventually went on to become the many worlds interpretation of quantum physics,
which began to gain acceptance among many physicists after his death in 1982. Everett s theory, first
conceived in his thesis paper, attempted to address the measurement problem in quantum mechanics.
That is, the lack of continuity between the behavior of objects on a microscopic scale when compared
to those on a macroscopic one. Despite the fact that quantum theory allows for the superposition of
particles in multiple states simultaneously, this superposition has never been observer directly, nor
does it occur in macroscopic systems. Wave functions are used to represent these states, as predicted
by the Schrodinger equation. This equation presents an objective measurement with absolute
determinism. Despite the mathematically sound nature of the idea that the change over time of a wave
function can be objectively determined, empirical data seems to directly contradict this. Whenever a
quantum system is observed, the wave function that describes the superposition of possible states for
that system collapses into a single possibility, interrupting the wave function s evolution. The way that
the wave function collapses does not appear to correlate with the information conferred by the wave
function prior to its measurement, and the collapse directly contradicts the Schrodinger equation. This
interpretation physically separates the quantum realm from the rest of reality, including the

Fungi Are Fungi Different From Plants
Fungi are a group of living organisms which are classified in their own kingdom. This means they are
not animals, plants, or bacteria. Unlike bacteria, which have simple prokaryotic cells, fungi have
complex eukaryotic cells like animals and plants. Fungi are found throughout the Earth including on
land, in the water, in the air, and even in plants and animals. They vary widely in size from
microscopically small to the largest organisms on Earth at several square miles large. There are more
than 100,000 different identified species of fungi. How are fungi different from plants? Fungi were
once classified as plants. However, they are different from plants in two important ways: 1) fungi cell
walls are composed of chitin rather than cellulose (plants) and 2) fungi do not make their own food
like plants do through photosynthesis. Characteristics of Fungi They are eukaryotic. They get their
food by decomposing matter or eating off their hosts as parasites. They do not possess chlorophyll like
plants. They reproduce through numerous spores rather than pollen, fruit, or seeds. They are usually
not motile, meaning they cannot actively move around. Roles of Fungi Food Many fungi are used as
food such as mushrooms and truffles. Yeast, a type of fungi, is used when baking bread to help it rise
and to ferment beverages. Decomposition Fungi play an important role in the decomposition of
organic matter. This decomposition is necessary for many of the cycles of life such as the

The Importance Of Integrity For A Business Means Being A...
Entrepreneurial Opportunities One of the defining characteristics of an entrepreneur is integrity.
Integrity plays into how others perceive you. Companies or individuals that display organic integrity
attract respect and consumer loyalty (Forbat, pg 23, 2007). Integrity for a business means being a good
corporate citizen. A company with good corporate citizenship has a strong set of ethics and is socially
conscious. Corporate citizenship needs to be ingrained in modern craft breweries at their inception so
their actions seem meaningful and organic as consumers tend to be suspicious of corporate agendas.
Because more and more consumers are expecting high levels of integrity, corporate citizenship
presents itself as a great entrepreneurial opportunity within the craft beer market. Being socially
conscious does not necessarily translate to better sales but it is definitely in the company s best interest
to keep an ethically sound public appearance. Consumers are quick to abandon socially corrupt
companies and are hard to win back once the company s reputation is soiled. Mitigating bad public
perception can be done by ensuring company ethics and social responsibility are met. This does
consume resources and is considered a cost to the company but it is becoming increasingly necessary
due to the wide spread access of information consumers have readily available. It is possible that if

Happiness Is The Most Important Aspect Of The Mind
Buddhists believe happiness is being able to realize that no matter what you think about the
circumstances that define your life, you are already good, whole and complete. It s about recognizing
the inherit potential in your mind. Happiness is being awakened to the full potential of his own nature.
People have to change their mindset in order to achieve happiness for example someone who suffers
from anxiety may have a attack they can believe they are having a nervous breakdown or you can

controlling your thoughts you are able to control your outcome of situations. Happiness is awareness

the mind is essence, is the most important aspect of all creatures that share the attribute of being

The Creature In The Lagoon
The Creature in the Lagoon
If only Jacqueline and I had listened to our parents and not ventured into the lagoon, Elaine thought.
Elaine and Jacqueline were growing up in a condominium facing Lake Ontario in downtown Toronto
on Queen s Quay Boulevard. Their parents, Dennis and Roberta, were both lawyers. Elaine was
fourteen and Jacqueline was sixteen. The lagoon in question was located at Hanlon s Point, next to the
Toronto Islands.
Dennis and Roberta had always warned Elaine and Jacqueline to stay away from the lagoon.
The lagoon is not safe, Dennis cautioned. It is private property, owned by the Harbour Commission.
Why? asked Elaine.
Because the lagoon contains an amphibious creature, Roberta answered. It is built like a man, but it
looks like a fish. It stands upright with what looks like legs, but it is scaly and has sharp teeth like a
shark and claws instead of hands.
The parents warnings seemed silly to Elaine and Jacqueline. Both girls thought it would be fun to
explore the lagoon.
One day, Elaine and Jacqueline were watching on television an old movie called The Lagoon
Creature. The so called creature, the mysterious man fish, was half amphibious, half human, and
resembled the creature their mother had told them about. Elaine was squirming with fear, although
Jacqueline was laughing.
Do you actually believe in these creatures? Elaine asked Jacqueline.
No, I don t, Jacqueline answered. The story on TV is made up, just like our parents keep telling us
there is a man built like a fish in the lagoon. Our friends from school walk around the lagoon all the
time. I have never heard stories from them about an amphibious creature. They would laugh at this
story.
The next day, it just so happened that Dennis and Roberta were relaxing around the condominium s
swimming pool. Elaine and Jacqueline decided to go down to Eaton s Centre, but as they left their

Barium Chloride Dihydrate
In conclusion to the first portion of the experiment, which included the continuous heating and cooling
of a 1.5 gram sample of barium chloride dihydrate, the litmus paper tested indicated that there was no
release of acidic vapors during the separating of the water and compound bonds. In other words, the
chemical equation BaCl2 + 2H2O (s)  BaCl2 + 2H2O (g), labeled as 5.3 in the original lab report, is
best used to describe the transition which took place during this portion of the lab.
The second procedure called for us to heat a number of other hydrates and test their vapors for any
evidence of acid just as we had done in the previous experimental procedure. The results for the
heating of each individual hydrate posed a different conclusion

Causes of Bolshevik Success Using Voilence Essays
How far do you agree that the Bolsheviks consolidated their hold on power in the years after the
October/November revolution mainly through the use of violence against their opponents?
The Bolsheviks consolidated their power after October 1917 however they faced many severe
problems which made keeping their power complex. For Lenin and the Bolsheviks winning political
power was relatively easy compared with retaining it. The Bolsheviks may have had a temporary
majority in the All Russia soviet in October 1917, but they did not have a majority following in the
country as a whole . Russia was in chaos, politically and economically, and normal government had
broken down in large areas. . yet lenin was able to overcome these problems and ... Show more

The Workers Decrees outlined measures for minimum wage, limitations on workers hours, and the
running of factories by elected workers committees. This consolidated Bolshevik support amongst the
working classes in the cities, where they had taken power, because it gave the workers a sense of
democracy.
However Lenin also had solutions to these problems through a more violent approach, this was
repression. The cpnstituent assembly which had been promised by the provisional government took
place as planned on 12 november 1917 and the result was that the social revolutionaries became the
largest party in Russia. This made lenin fear was that the constituent assembly would challenge the
newly Bolshevik rule so when the assembly rejected by 237 to 137 votes to be subservient to the
decrees, Lenin took violent action by having armed troops and red guards threaten the assembly at gun
point to close down. The Bolsheviks had been successful because the opposition was divided on what
to do; half of the socialist revolutionaries supported the Bolsheviks and joined them in a coalition
government; half followed the leader viktor chernov who called for peaceful

Case Study Of Logistics At Ambuja Cement
Over the years ACC has reported an average capacity consumption rate of 86%, and Ambuja s average
utilisation pace stands high at 93%. During certain years, Ambuja Cements somehow managed to
produce even more than their total installed capacity. So the company has not only added their
capacity at a rapid, swift, pace, but has also attained high utilisation rates throughout most of its
operations. This shows the top level of efficiency in Ambuja Cement s operations.
Logistics at Ambuja Cement
Inbound logistics today is highly inefficient. Most retailers use multiple systems to manage the
process and so suffer from fragmented visibility. Prioritisation and scheduling of orders are done on an
ad hoc basis, with little consideration of current demand and inventory, while scarce resources, such as
dock door and yard capacity, are often poorly utilised.

The costs of key inputs coal, power and transport by rail or road are spiraling year on year. The coal is
of poor quality, with high ash and low calorific value content. There is need to introduce competition
for improving quality, regularity in supply and reduced prices. The power from public utilities is of
poor quality due to frequent power cuts and fluctuating voltage.
Transport by rail or road is a cost intensive component and amounts to almost 15 20 per cent of the
delivered cost to the consumers. The railway tariff is high and need to be rationalised for an essential
product like cement. Road transport on the other hand, provides limited alternative because of
inadequacy of road network and rising cost of road transport due to continuously rising fuel cost.
Inland water transport is eco friendly and cheap mode especially for bulk commodities like cement.
Coastal shipping and inland waterways will help in bringing down the transportation cost.

A Mechanized War Poem
This poem is my favorite of the three poems we have studied because of the beautiful language and
poetic techniques it employs, and because of how realistically it portrays war. The poem captures the
horror of troops caught in the middle of a brutal and merciless war, and their desperation. In a
mechanized war, attacks take place with frightening speed and intensity, where there is no place to run
or hide, and any response is not made out of logic but of pure fear. This hasty and irrational way of
thinking fueled only by terror typically only ended in death for both the attacker and the defender, and
severe trauma for any survivors. Using a series of present continuous verbs, the poet depicts fast
evolving action. He portrays the realness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hope is personified as a dying soldier, hiding from the other soldiers, and desperately struggling,
trying to grasp onto the mud, but miserably failing. Hope is described and floundering in the mud,
sinking, drowning, hope itself fighting a losing battle just to survive in the hearts of the soldiers. But
the soldiers all know that hope is lost and dead, and woefully plea O! Jesus, make it stop . The
impassioned O! symbolizes the terror and pain they are enduring, and this line captures the
desperation of these poor soldiers as they try cling onto life, onto their

Essay on ANS Nervous System
The Structure amp; function of the
Autonomic Nervous System
Introduction:
The organs of our body are controlled by many systems in order to function correctly and efficiently
in order to survive within the environment we live in. These include the heart, stomach and intestines
and other vital organs and body systems. All of the systems in our body are regulated by a part of the
nervous system called the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS is part of the peripheral
nervous system and it controls many organs and muscles within the body. Rather bizarrely we are
unable to determine or feel its presence in our bodies as it is working involuntary, as a reflexive
manner. A common example of this involuntary action is best understood when ... Show more content

Take notice of figure.1 in the illustrated diagram that the sympathetic nervous system originates in the
spinal cord. Specifically, the cell bodies of the first neuron are located in the thoracic and lumbar
spinal cord. Axons from these neurons project to a chain of ganglia located near the spinal cord. In
most cases, this neuron makes a synapse with another postganglionic neuron in the ganglion. A few
preganglionic neurons go to other ganglia outside of the sympathetic chain and synapse there. The
postganglionic neuron then projects to the quot;target quot; either a muscle or a gland.
Two more facts about the sympathetic nervous system are the synapse in the sympathetic ganglion,
uses acetylcholine as a neurotransmitter. The synapse of the postganglionic neuron with the target
organ uses the neurotransmitter called norepinephrine. There is one exception to this, the sympathetic
postganglionic neuron that terminates on the sweat glands uses acetylcholine.
The Parasympathetic nervous system is an antagonist to the sympathetic nervous system. Its primary
function is to give you the ability to rest and relax, in times when you are tired or stressed. The
parasympathetic nervous system works to save energy and allow your blood pressure to also decrease.
Your heartbeat reduces becoming much slower, and digestion can start. Notice again in figure

Electroconvulsive Theraphy Should Be Used in Psychiatric...
ECT Should Be Used in Psychiatric Treatment
In contemporary psychiatry worldwide, Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) continues to be useful.
However, researchers, the general public and practitioners have not yet understood this therapy.
Controversies continue to surround the application of this therapy, especially the long term
consequences of its legality and use in the management of some severe major depression,
schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and mental illness. Particularly, a few mental health service users
report adverse effects that are associated with ECT for instance, severe memory loss. Some
researchers claim that the Electroconvulsive therapy is the utmost controversial treatment in the field
of psychiatry. Arguably, ECT should be used in physiatrist treatment.
Randomized Controlled Trial (RCTs) demonstrates that the use of ECT is effectual when treating
major depression. However, it quickly resolves all mental problems. When controlled in a setting that
is safe, the treatment becomes comfortable. Some researchers argue that Genuine ECT is more
effective in treating acute treatment caused by depression rather than sham ECT. In addition, ECT is
also more effective in comparison with standard antidepressant medication treatment (Sienaert 8).
Clinical trials that compare ECT with optimal pharmacotherapy are yet to be conducted. There is no
evidence that demonstrates the ECT effectiveness in the treatment of Schizophrenia. Genuine ECT has
been more effective in

The War On Drugs Should Be Discontinued
The united states spends a lot of money keeping dangerous criminals in prisons and off of the streets.
The phrase a lot hardly does justice describing a figure like 70 billion dollars. Unfortunately, almost
50 percent of these criminals America spends that wad of cash on were arrested for non violent drug
charges, and are not a danger to America s safety at all. Drugs are no good, but do not cause harm to
anyone but the user. That is, until these drugs are made illegal and drug cartels see huge profits in the
illegal trade that they are willing to kill for. In 1971 President Nixon waged, quite dramatically, a full
blown war against drugs abuse, claiming that addiction is directly related to crime. Instead of offering
therapy for addicts, the plan from 1971 and on was to incarcerate them, and ruin their lives far more so
than the drugs ever had. The war on drugs should be discontinued to cease wasteful spending, end the
incarceration of peaceful peoples, and prevent the deaths of officers and citizens alike. Already a
trillion dollar failure thus far, the war on drugs adds 51 billion dollars to that tab every year. An effort
of these proportions should have some accomplishments to boast, right? Sadly, it does not. The current
United States drug czar, Gil Kerlikowske, who directs the drug control policies in America, is quoted
talking about the war on drugs, saying, Forty years later, the concern about drugs and drug problems
is, if anything, magnified, intensified. In

Scott Sander Merger Analysis
Whether it s a merger, an acquisition or just plain transformation into another business entity, retailers
today are branching out into areas up to now unimagined by the business community. One such area
are plans for expansion that present unique opportunities for the New York based Westfield
Corporation.
The Wind of Change Is Blowing
The Westfield mega mall conglomerate already owns over 35 retail malls in the U.S., the U.K. and in
Italy. However, an out of the box mindset blew into the Westfield corporation recently as they hired
Tony Award winning Scott Sanders to help explore and manage diverse entertainment and amusement

Westfield offices agree with his vision to not only have entertainment combined with retailing, as
such, but specialty restaurants, TV production and viewing, dance productions and vast Internet
facilities as well. In addition, his vision incorporates all the above plus utilizing vacant mall space for
late evening and late weekend hours when shopping tends to slow down.
Under the Westfield corporate banner, Sanders continues with the development and production of
Broadway bound plays including Tootsie, Coal Miner s Daughter and Up Here. Moreover, a motion
picture adaptation of Lin Manuel Miranda s In the Heights is already in the works.
The combining of mall shopping experiences and the theatrical touch provides a promising
expectation of success. While this is not the first time such an experience has been attempted in malls,
it is the first on such a grand scale with so many high caliber theatrical professionals involved. As of
2014, The Westfield Group, out of Australia and New Zealand, separated from its international
holdings and in effect created The Westfield Corporation that focuses on its international

Modularity of Mind
In 1983 Jerry Fodor opened the introduction to his new research of Modularity of mind with the
phrase; Behavior is organized, but the organization of behavior is merely derivative . This meaning
that behaviors are simply imitations, never original nor created. Fodor created a theory of how the
mind was structured and how would perform. He studied the architecture of mind in modules; a term
that will describe that the mind had different specific structures that had precise purposes. Jesse J.
Prinz just like Fodor was a philosopher who was in opposition of the Modularity of the mind theory.
This essay will have as a purpose to create an argument on the explanation and disagreement that
Prinz wrote cluster by cluster against the theory Modularity of mind in an article called Is the mind
really modular?
Prinz publication Is the mind really modular? demonstrates a various examples and explanations,
highlighting each and everyone one of the modular systems that Fodor created. The number of
descriptions created for the modules is composed by individuals who share different points of view.
This doesn t prove that the theory is wrong, it will simply state that there is no certainty of being a
hundred percent sure. My position on this essay will be in contradiction to the approach that Prinz
argues to disapprove the Modularity of the mind theory.
Localized: modules are realized in dedicated neural architecture
Subject to characteristic breakdowns: modules can be

How Is Teddy Alike
Will Langas
There s Something About Teddy On June 5th, 1944, 156,000 soldiers took part in the largest
amphibious invasion in history. One of these soldiers, known as Jerry Salinger to his friends, stormed
the beach alongside his fellow Americans, carrying in his backpack the first six chapters to the story
that would later be known as The Catcher in the Rye. Selling around 250,000 copies each year, Jerome
David Salinger s novel pushed him into the spotlight, and two years later he published the short story
Teddy, under the name J.D. Salinger, in his collection of brief tales, Nine Stories. According to
Americans, the main character Teddy would be seen as a troubled figure, however, Hindus would
consider him to be spiritually mature. Teddy would be regarded as spiritually enlightened because he
is not affected by his emotions, he is aware of the ultimate reality, and he is not afraid of death. First,
Teddy is negatively portrayed as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in the Hindu world view, Teddy is viewed more spiritually mature because of this trait. In
fact, Teddy is actually considered different, in a beneficial way to not only himself, but others alike.
Teddy s ability to block out his emotions is shown early into his discussion with Bob Nicholson, when
after being asked about his emotions, he responds saying, I don t remember when I ever used them...I
don t see what they re good for (Salinger 77). Teddy s view of emotions displays his spiritual progress
in the terms of the purusharthas. While most people are concerned with the purusharthas of wealth and
pleasure, Artha and Kama, Teddy has developed past these emotionally concerned goals, and in the
process has become concerned with what all humans should strive to achieve, the purushartha of
Moksha, or liberation.

Remove (do not process) any term that begins with a punctuation character Determine the term frequency (tft,d) for each unique term in each document in the collection to be included in the inverted index. Determine the document frequency (dft) which is a count of the number of documents from within the collection that each unique inverted index term appears in. Calculate the inverse document frequency using the following formula: idft = log(N/dft) o The N in this formula refers to the number of documents that exist in the collection. Starting at line 424, is the code to perform the token stemming, removal of stop words, and removal of tokens that start with punctuation. As part of this, I tracked the number of unique terms that were removed by the stop words and also added code to output a .dat file of the stopped words. Out of 4,600,000 inhabitants there are less than 2,000 followers of Christ that exist within their ranks, making this group of Christians less than 0.05% of the population. With the majority of Kanuri being Orthodox Sunni Muslims, and having a strong belief in their Muslims faith stand to reason why 0 percent are evangelized this is the finding of various studies and information gather about the Kanuri. Whereas, from these studies some information lead to several things that need to be taken into considered in the attempt to convert the Kanuri people to Christianity: 1. The Kanuri are said to be a primitive people. They have very little access to modern technology. They live strictly of what they grow and sell themselves. 2. The literacy rate of Kanuri is very low; Base of on this low rate they are dependent on oratorical communication. Only ten percent of the population can read, because of this disability they learning comes from storytelling in order to pass down traditions and knowledge. 3. Constitutional law establishes the framework that gives the legislative body the ability to establish laws. It also serves as a protection of our fundamental rights, by not allowing government to overreach its authority. Each of the 50 states is sovereign with its own executive, legislative and judicial branches. This allows each state to maintain its individuality and govern its people accordingly. However, should a conflict between state and federal law arise then the Supremacy Clause, found in Article VI of the Constitution, states that state laws must yield to federal acts. • 5. Persuasive Essay On Racism In Sports Racism is prevalent in today s society and is exposed in the sports industry as well. Various athletes in different sports field experience racism and face it everyday. Social media is a big platform for people to criticize athletes for their failures and success. On the other hand more times than not, racism can be found within the head of organizations of major sports, most noticeably football. The NFL has condoned an abundance of racist actions towards players of Hispanic and African American descent; therefore, the NFL should stop these problems by supporting athletes that take a stand, holding the NFL owners accountable for their actions, and finally, not stereotyping young black athletes into a position based off of racial factors. An organization like the NFL needs to support their athletes when they decide to exercise their 1st amendment rights. For example, a current event that has ravished the mainstream media would be over the controversy with Colin Kaepernick. There are 64 quarterbacks total in the NFL at the time, Kaepernick not being one of them. At the end of the season Kaepernick had a passer rating of 90.7 (ESPN, 2016) . That was better than ten starting quarterbacks in the league at that time. Also, to add to his resume he only threw four interceptions during the season. His stats prove that he s a proven NFL starter and his trip to the Superbowl in 2013 are examples of why he should be added to any NFL roster. Why isn t he on a roster? It s primarily ... The General Theory Of Employment, Interest, And Money In the renowned work, The General Theory of Employment, Interest, and Money John Maynard Keynes breaks down his general theory of mercantilism and free trade into seven different section. Each section talking about his opposition to economic theorists and his views on the advantage of having an adaptable and well prepared system to maintain an efficient economy. In his first argument he starts off by explaining how for the past one hundred years there has been a remarkable divergence of opinion between practical men and economic theorists (Chapter 23, I). Unlike the economic theorists the practical men favor mercantilism, an economic system set around strict government regulations in order to unify a nation in hopes to increase monetary ... Which states that most new investments are either home investments, which can eventually be governed, or foreign investment, which is determined by balance trade. The two investments together make up aggregate investment, which is the sum of all expenditures on investment. As he moves on he argues that If the domestic rate of interest falls...the increase in the domestic level of costs will begin to react unfavorably on the balance of foreign trade (Chapter 23, II). Causing an influx in a country s increasing costs and falling rates leads to another country s fall in cost and rise in rates. Mercantilists who were accused of opposing trade restrictions later realized that favorable balance of trade was more efficient. However, Keynes makes a great argument in that he states that the fact that the advantage which our own country gains from a favorable balance is liable to involve an equal disadvantage to some other country (Chapter 23, II). So it is important that economists and government officials make better and educated decisions that helps maintain a nations economy. The third and fourth section of Keynes argument brings up multiple references to other economists and professors on their views of mercantilism. In his reference to an article from Professor Heckscher, who believes that the mercantilists policy killed two birds with one stone (Chapter 23, III). Keynes saw the flaw in ... • 7. Usefulness and Reliability of Information Provided By... An ongoing concern in financial reporting is the usefulness and reliability of information provided by corporations. The financial accounting standard board defines usefulness as the information that is useful for the users in decision making (FASB, 2011). Reliability is inferred when the information is verified, objective, and can be relied on. Therefore, Statement of Financial Accounting Standards No. 157 standardizes the valuation and disclosure of fair value for assets and liabilities in order to achieve both usefulness and reliability. The reasoning for the hierarchy was due to the inconsistency in previous definitions and guidance (FASB, 1992). Introduction to Fair Value Hierarchy To begin, SFAS defines fair value as the value ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... SFAS Relating to the Conceptual Framework The framework for measuring fair value is easy to understand and follow, and relates to the conceptual framework. As stated earlier the preferred measure of fair value is the market approach, because the prices are observable. For this reason the standard recognizes the need for relevant, reliable, and comparable information in order for users to make better decisions about the current financial position of a company. Financial readers are aware of the valuing measurement used to calculate the fair value, whether the measurement were derived from an observable or unobservable input. The measurement establishes the existence of reliable and relevance qualitative factors that make accounting information useful for decision making (Barbera, 2007). If it were observable then the value derived can be researched and verified. However, if it were unobservable then the user must read the disclosures which will be discussed later in the research paper, and determine the reliability of the internally generated measurement. In return it can be understood that the level 1 inputs are more reliable and relevant than the other two levels. In addition, the fair value hierarchy also enhances the comparability and consistency of information among companies due to following practices: all companies must ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. What Is Instruction Is Through Personal Learning... CHAPTER ONE: INTRODUCTION Introduction The goal of any educator is to meet students where they are and help them grow academically. Since students do not all learn in the same manner, differentiated instruction is needed to meet the diverse needs of students today. One way to differentiate instruction is through personal learning environments (PLEs). PLEs are platforms that help learners manage and take control of their learning; they are a combination of tools, communities, and services that help learners direct their own learning and reach educational goals. PLEs help students develop autonomy and it prepares them for lifelong learning. Implementing PLEs in a public school could help to close gaps between low performing students ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... PLEs employ different tools that help manage learning. For example, portfolios or e portfolios allows learners to house completed work and share that work with teachers as needed. Collaboration tools allow learners to connect with one another on social networking sites in order to work together to complete projects and other assignments. Managing and planning tools allow learners to create to do lists set goals. Journals, such as blogs, help learners record and reflect on their work. Last, a content repository affords students the opportunity to keep videos, websites, and/or shared files. These different tools are not independent of each other; they may be intertwined and interchangeable. Learners use PLEs that are most beneficial to them and at times that are most conducive for their schedule. In order for PLEs to be effective, educators must help learners develop the skills to be an autonomous learner. Learning management systems traditionally provide structures to guide online learners to achieve their learning goals (Tu, Sujo Montes, Yen, Chan, Blocher, 2012, p. 13). Technologies, such as Web 2.0, allow learners to create, share, and organize PLEs in open network environments. In addition, this platform allows students to collaborate and engage in social networking. • 9. Machiavelli vs Islamic Political Thought Machiavelli vs Islamic Political Thought Niccolo Machiavelli was a political realist. He thought there were certain skills and characteristics needed to become a political ruler. In his work, The Prince, Machiavelli gives advice on how to be a successful prince, or ruler. Successful is partly based on how powerful a ruler was during his lifetime (reign), but largely based on how much the prince affected the lives, through laws or societal norms, of future generations. Machiavelli was mainly interested in attaining and keeping political power. He believed people were inherently selfish and would, by nature, not respect the law or work for the common good, without civic virtues. The only way to ‘control these human urges was to instill ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Regardless of how good a ruler Borgia was though, when the time came to install a new pope and it wasn t his father, Borgia fell short and was no longer the ruler. While Machiavelli seemed to put no stock in the role of the citizen in determining a ruler, he thought rulers could protect their power by evoking the love of their people. But even this isn t enough all the time, because of the question always asked by citizens of its government, what have you done for me lately. The ruler must protect the citizens property, prosperity, family, and well being. For people to lead happy, full lives, they must be allowed to do what they want, within the guidelines of a state. But this is a cycle easier to maintain, than to begin. For people to do as they wish, there must be guidelines in place, but for guidelines to be established, people have to know what they want to do and what they are unable to do. Here is the reason governments were built in the first place. The group of people chose someone to establish guidelines, because people wanted more than they had. This is the real purpose of a ruler, to help establish a society. Machiavelli was consumed with rulers having and keeping power, by whatever force necessary. This seems to contradict what he is saying about the common good and civic virtues. If the ruler is only interested in power, what care would he have for the people? None, it seems to me. Nicholson Liberty University Student ID: 21273100 PSYC 341 October 7, 2007 Abstract Albert Bandura is one of the pioneers in the study of human development. His biographical background lays a good foundation for the basis of his work as a psychologist. His social cognitive theory will be examined in detail to highlight the effect that environment has on behavior. There are four basic features to the theory introduced by Bandura that will be discussed; (1) observational learning, (2) self regulation, (3) self efficacy, and (4) reciprocal determinism. Reflection Paper About Self Out of all of the topics that we went over in over the course of the Sister to Sister class, the one that resonated with and still resonates with me the most would have to be the theme of self. This is simply because you cannot even begin to form a sense of community or delve into higher education successfully without a keen awareness of self. This phenomenon is stated beautifully with, an ongoing commitment to developing the self is paramount to the establishment of an identity that is centered and grounded (King, T. C., Ferguson, S. I read an article that I saw on Twitter basically detailing a woman s experience as a black woman attending a PWI, and I could relate to it all. It spoke about white people being so privileged that they do not move out of the way for or hold doors open for black women, and it is true. We accept our mistreatment on campus to an extent and have the mutual understanding that we will receive that college degree, and use to better ourselves and our people with or without the school s support but of course, going about our college education like this has adverse effects (McKinney 2016). On a campus where only four percent of the population looks like you, I find it nearly impossible to not shift myself at least a little bit because I often feel uncomfortable. We are micro aggressed daily and are expected to have that not affect us; we are supposed to remain strong, which brings me to the issues with the idea of the black superwoman. The Pros And Cons Of The Industrial Food Industry As Gliessman, an agricultural researcher, says in Agroecology, conventional agriculture is built around two related goals: the maximization of production and the maximization of profit. In pursuit of these goals, a host of practices have been developed without regard for their unintended, long term consequences (3). The industrial food industry has created a process to produce as many crops as possible in the quickest amount of time to put onto the market. The several ways utilized to achieve these goals are those that are harmful to the consumer. Two main threats are genetic modification, and chemicals. These issues are a spark of concern in addressing the health of consumers. Food industries often try to tantalize their audience with the promise of untouched, pristine produce when in reality these foods are heavily tainted by pesticides or are genetically modifieds. One will find this obliviousness represented in virgin purity in the advertisements of the food industry, in which food wears as much makeup as the actors. If one s whole knowledge of food from these advertisements, one would not know that the various edibles were ever living creatures, or that they all come from the soil... (Berry 147). • 21. The Impossibility of Governmental Regulation on Healthcare... At this particular stage, it is impossible for governmental entities to effectively regulate each and every instance of health care service. This facet is particularly true for cases of international health care services. There are several different types of health care services provided for international travelers. The lack of effective regulation of these services can actually aid a number of different consumers in different ways. For instance, the entity known as Traveler s Health can potentially aid consumers by awarding health services and benefits to those who are not American citizens. The services and products of this entity are supposed to be exclusively reserved for U.S. citizens. If individuals can falsify documents to fake their status as an American, they can then claim some of these benefits. Also, in instances in which there are American travelers who have been overseas for a substantial length of time, once their paperwork and credentials expire, they would no longer be eligible to receive these services. A regulatory oversight of this fact would enable such travelers (or expatriates in this instance) to continue to receive these benefits. Another purpose of this particular entity is to promote the clinical practice of travel medicine (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2011). The wager stated that, even though the existence of God cannot be determined through reason, one should wager as though God exists, because living accordingly, has essentially nothing to lose and experiences can only be beneficial. Christians believe in Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit meanwhile Muslims believe in Allah also, the Scriptures and the Qur an differ greatly. Additionally, one must ask if human belief matters at all, and whether heaven really is the ultimate greatness. Perhaps the biggest arguments are whether one can make themselves believe if they truly are doubtful, and how do we know God s criteria for salvation? In the three Abrahamic texts that we read; Genesis, Matthew, and the Quran, some would argue that the author s purpose was to create a blueprint for how humans should live their lives; a rather daunting and consequential task. The main problem is written text, and especially text that was written in 1,400 BC, and based off of ideals and traditions that date back even further, in the Bibles case, is it s going to seem outdated and may often be misread or misrepresented. A simple sentence even in modern times can be twisted and bent to mean just about anything. Ask our politicians. Now think about what could happen to the meaning and form of ancient text after being rewritten and translated so numerous times. Human interpretation is key to understanding how misrepresentation has occurred in these texts. Every person ever to be born into this world is completely different. This theory is what eventually went on to become the many worlds interpretation of quantum physics, which began to gain acceptance among many physicists after his death in 1982. Everett s theory, first conceived in his thesis paper, attempted to address the measurement problem in quantum mechanics. That is, the lack of continuity between the behavior of objects on a microscopic scale when compared to those on a macroscopic one. Despite the fact that quantum theory allows for the superposition of particles in multiple states simultaneously, this superposition has never been observer directly, nor does it occur in macroscopic systems. Wave functions are used to represent these states, as predicted by the Schrodinger equation. This equation presents an objective measurement with absolute determinism. Despite the mathematically sound nature of the idea that the change over time of a wave function can be objectively determined, empirical data seems to directly contradict this. Whenever a quantum system is observed, the wave function that describes the superposition of possible states for that system collapses into a single possibility, interrupting the wave function s evolution. The way that the wave function collapses does not appear to correlate with the information conferred by the wave function prior to its measurement, and the collapse directly contradicts the Schrodinger equation. Unlike bacteria, which have simple prokaryotic cells, fungi have complex eukaryotic cells like animals and plants. Fungi are found throughout the Earth including on land, in the water, in the air, and even in plants and animals. They vary widely in size from microscopically small to the largest organisms on Earth at several square miles large. There are more than 100,000 different identified species of fungi. How are fungi different from plants? Fungi were once classified as plants. However, they are different from plants in two important ways: 1) fungi cell walls are composed of chitin rather than cellulose (plants) and 2) fungi do not make their own food like plants do through photosynthesis. Characteristics of Fungi They are eukaryotic. They get their food by decomposing matter or eating off their hosts as parasites. They do not possess chlorophyll like plants. • 38. The Importance Of Integrity For A Business Means Being A... Entrepreneurial Opportunities One of the defining characteristics of an entrepreneur is integrity. Integrity plays into how others perceive you. Companies or individuals that display organic integrity attract respect and consumer loyalty (Forbat, pg 23, 2007). Integrity for a business means being a good corporate citizen. A company with good corporate citizenship has a strong set of ethics and is socially conscious. Corporate citizenship needs to be ingrained in modern craft breweries at their inception so their actions seem meaningful and organic as consumers tend to be suspicious of corporate agendas. Because more and more consumers are expecting high levels of integrity, corporate citizenship presents itself as a great entrepreneurial opportunity within the craft beer market. Being socially conscious does not necessarily translate to better sales but it is definitely in the company s best interest to keep an ethically sound public appearance. Consumers are quick to abandon socially corrupt companies and are hard to win back once the company s reputation is soiled. Mitigating bad public perception can be done by ensuring company ethics and social responsibility are met. This does consume resources and is considered a cost to the company but it is becoming increasingly necessary due to the wide spread access of information consumers have readily available. It is possible that if marketed heavily to ensure consumers are aware of a company s good deeds that being a good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Happiness Is The Most Important Aspect Of The Mind Buddhists believe happiness is being able to realize that no matter what you think about the circumstances that define your life, you are already good, whole and complete. It s about recognizing the inherit potential in your mind. Happiness is being awakened to the full potential of his own nature. People have to change their mindset in order to achieve happiness for example someone who suffers from anxiety may have a attack they can believe they are having a nervous breakdown or you can confront your thoughts and fears and realize have that you re a having a nervous breakthrough. By controlling your thoughts you are able to control your outcome of situations. Happiness is awareness and the feeling of complete and whole. It is important to know that the mind is essence, is the most important aspect of all creatures that share the attribute of being sentient. It s important to acknowledge the natural mind and that is capable of producing anything, even ignorance of its own nature. • 40. The Creature In The Lagoon The Creature in the Lagoon If only Jacqueline and I had listened to our parents and not ventured into the lagoon, Elaine thought. Elaine and Jacqueline were growing up in a condominium facing Lake Ontario in downtown Toronto on Queen s Quay Boulevard. Their parents, Dennis and Roberta, were both lawyers. Elaine was fourteen and Jacqueline was sixteen. The lagoon in question was located at Hanlon s Point, next to the Toronto Islands. It is built like a man, but it looks like a fish. It stands upright with what looks like legs, but it is scaly and has sharp teeth like a shark and claws instead of hands. The parents warnings seemed silly to Elaine and Jacqueline. Both girls thought it would be fun to explore the lagoon. One day, Elaine and Jacqueline were watching on television an old movie called The Lagoon Creature. The so called creature, the mysterious man fish, was half amphibious, half human, and resembled the creature their mother had told them about. Elaine was squirming with fear, although Jacqueline was laughing. Do you actually believe in these creatures? Elaine asked Jacqueline. No, I don t, Jacqueline answered. The story on TV is made up, just like our parents keep telling us there is a man built like a fish in the lagoon. Our friends from school walk around the lagoon all the time. I have never heard stories from them about an amphibious creature. They would laugh at this story. The next day, it just so happened that Dennis and Roberta were relaxing around the condominium s swimming pool. Elaine and Jacqueline decided to go down to Eaton s Centre, but as they left their condominium building to get the Harbourfront bus to Union Station, they decided to take the bus in the opposite direction to the lagoon, which was located near the Toronto Islands. No sooner had the girls reached the lagoon than they saw something enormous splashing in it. Puzzled, they watched the water bubbles and the swirling water. There ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Causes of Bolshevik Success Using Voilence Essays How far do you agree that the Bolsheviks consolidated their hold on power in the years after the October/November revolution mainly through the use of violence against their opponents? The Bolsheviks consolidated their power after October 1917 however they faced many severe problems which made keeping their power complex. For Lenin and the Bolsheviks winning political power was relatively easy compared with retaining it. The Bolsheviks may have had a temporary majority in the All Russia soviet in October 1917, but they did not have a majority following in the country as a whole . This consolidated Bolshevik support amongst the working classes in the cities, where they had taken power, because it gave the workers a sense of democracy. However Lenin also had solutions to these problems through a more violent approach, this was repression. The cpnstituent assembly which had been promised by the provisional government took place as planned on 12 november 1917 and the result was that the social revolutionaries became the largest party in Russia. This made lenin fear was that the constituent assembly would challenge the newly Bolshevik rule so when the assembly rejected by 237 to 137 votes to be subservient to the decrees, Lenin took violent action by having armed troops and red guards threaten the assembly at gun point to close down. A Mechanized War Poem This poem is my favorite of the three poems we have studied because of the beautiful language and poetic techniques it employs, and because of how realistically it portrays war. The poem captures the horror of troops caught in the middle of a brutal and merciless war, and their desperation. In a mechanized war, attacks take place with frightening speed and intensity, where there is no place to run or hide, and any response is not made out of logic but of pure fear. This hasty and irrational way of thinking fueled only by terror typically only ended in death for both the attacker and the defender, and severe trauma for any survivors. Essay on ANS Nervous System The Structure amp; function of the Autonomic Nervous System Introduction: The organs of our body are controlled by many systems in order to function correctly and efficiently in order to survive within the environment we live in. These include the heart, stomach and intestines and other vital organs and body systems. All of the systems in our body are regulated by a part of the nervous system called the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS is part of the peripheral nervous system and it controls many organs and muscles within the body. Rather bizarrely we are unable to determine or feel its presence in our bodies as it is working involuntary, as a reflexive manner. Take notice of figure.1 in the illustrated diagram that the sympathetic nervous system originates in the spinal cord. Specifically, the cell bodies of the first neuron are located in the thoracic and lumbar spinal cord. Axons from these neurons project to a chain of ganglia located near the spinal cord. In most cases, this neuron makes a synapse with another postganglionic neuron in the ganglion. A few preganglionic neurons go to other ganglia outside of the sympathetic chain and synapse there. The postganglionic neuron then projects to the quot;target quot; either a muscle or a gland. Two more facts about the sympathetic nervous system are the synapse in the sympathetic ganglion, uses acetylcholine as a neurotransmitter. The synapse of the postganglionic neuron with the target organ uses the neurotransmitter called norepinephrine. There is one exception to this, the sympathetic postganglionic neuron that terminates on the sweat glands uses acetylcholine. The Parasympathetic nervous system is an antagonist to the sympathetic nervous system. Its primary function is to give you the ability to rest and relax, in times when you are tired or stressed. The parasympathetic nervous system works to save energy and allow your blood pressure to also decrease. Your heartbeat reduces becoming much slower, and digestion can start. ECT Should Be Used in Psychiatric Treatment In contemporary psychiatry worldwide, Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) continues to be useful. However, researchers, the general public and practitioners have not yet understood this therapy. Controversies continue to surround the application of this therapy, especially the long term consequences of its legality and use in the management of some severe major depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and mental illness. Particularly, a few mental health service users report adverse effects that are associated with ECT for instance, severe memory loss. Some researchers claim that the Electroconvulsive therapy is the utmost controversial treatment in the field of psychiatry. Arguably, ECT should be used in physiatrist treatment. Randomized Controlled Trial (RCTs) demonstrates that the use of ECT is effectual when treating major depression. However, it quickly resolves all mental problems. When controlled in a setting that is safe, the treatment becomes comfortable. Some researchers argue that Genuine ECT is more effective in treating acute treatment caused by depression rather than sham ECT. In addition, ECT is also more effective in comparison with standard antidepressant medication treatment (Sienaert 8). Clinical trials that compare ECT with optimal pharmacotherapy are yet to be conducted. There is no evidence that demonstrates the ECT effectiveness in the treatment of Schizophrenia. The phrase a lot hardly does justice describing a figure like 70 billion dollars. Unfortunately, almost 50 percent of these criminals America spends that wad of cash on were arrested for non violent drug charges, and are not a danger to America s safety at all. Drugs are no good, but do not cause harm to anyone but the user. That is, until these drugs are made illegal and drug cartels see huge profits in the illegal trade that they are willing to kill for. In 1971 President Nixon waged, quite dramatically, a full blown war against drugs abuse, claiming that addiction is directly related to crime. Instead of offering therapy for addicts, the plan from 1971 and on was to incarcerate them, and ruin their lives far more so than the drugs ever had. The war on drugs should be discontinued to cease wasteful spending, end the incarceration of peaceful peoples, and prevent the deaths of officers and citizens alike. Already a trillion dollar failure thus far, the war on drugs adds 51 billion dollars to that tab every year. An effort of these proportions should have some accomplishments to boast, right? Sadly, it does not. Modularity of Mind In 1983 Jerry Fodor opened the introduction to his new research of Modularity of mind with the phrase; Behavior is organized, but the organization of behavior is merely derivative .
