Love Is A Tender And Resilient Matter
Love is a tender and resilient matter, existing in all things since the Lord created the heavens and the
Earth. However, the proper ways to love would be following Jesus s commands to always love one
another regardless of race or background because everyone values love, love shapes what s good and
it is explained in the Bible of the three different and enduring kinds of love: Eros, Agape and Philos.
The first love is exponentially described in the Bible Eros love. This specific kind of love is based off
of the physical traits associated with sexual as well as emotional involvement. That endearing click
people hope to discover at least once in their lives. Eros goes off of strong feelings opposite sexes,
even same sexes, have for one another. However, the bible proficiently claims that unless redeemed by
the Lord s presence, then this love, Eros, can become a possessive, belittling feeling instead, since it
tries to conquer first and then control, such an example being a marriage discovering problems that did
not previously exist due to the other party not going about handling situations the way they had
previously, or purposefully belittling the other. Eros love is a beastly form of love, a love that not
unlike the famous Beauty and The Beast is based off of physical characteristics as well as sentiment
from one being to another. It also exists in the form of pure amorousness gone bad an example of this
being a woman marrying a man she treats in a way society

My Chinese Immigrant Parents
My international background has shaped who I am today because of the influence of my Chinese
immigrant parents. My parents never had an easy life. My parents, who lived in poverty in China,
immigrated to the United States hoping for a better life and to pursue the American Dream. They
immigrated to the Unites States with no money and no knowledge of the English language. The
language barrier alone created a mass obstacle for their early life in America. My dad had once told
me that at the age of 13 he was already cooking for his entire family while working to provide
financial support for his parents and siblings. Despite my parent s challenges, they were still able to
raise me with love and care and surrounded me in an environment where I ... Show more content on

Throughout my high school career, I had an obligation to help this family business to support my
family financially. On weekends and majority of the weekdays, I spend my time aiding my parents
while juggling numerous amounts of school work. Senior year proved to be the hardest, with five
advancement placement classes that I take and while still helping out at the restaurant. Such
environment that I was raised in, has shaped me to become a disciplined and responsible individual.
Having been raised by my parents who are Chinese, I have had the honor of learning several cultural
aspects of my heritage and becoming bilingual in mandarin and English. I learned to celebrate Chinese
holidays, learned about my unique culture, and even attended Chinese school for a few years. My
Chinese heritage will always be part of who I am and has shaped me to be who I am today.
Although my life is not like those of a typical teenager s, I am and will be forever grateful for all that
my parents had provided me. For providing me with love and care, for raising me to become a
disciplined individual, for providing me with the inspiration that I need when I fail at times, and most
importantly, for finding the courage to send me off to college even without the full financial ability to.
I am proud of my international background, of my parents, of my heritage and myself for finding the

Strategic Investment Decisions Involving Valuable Business...
Valuation Questions
Question 1:
A strategic option is a valuation approach applied by firms when making strategic investment
decisions involving valuable business opportunities. The approach is premised on the idea of
remedying the shortcomings of DCF analysis model. This approach allows firms to value investment
opportunities by ascertaining on future value benefits that a specific project would bring to firm, rather
than looking at cash flow. Strategic options enable the management to formulate strategic decisions to
inform on future opportunities that would be created through today s investments. Possible future
operations are valued using strategic options, as no cash flow is analyzed, but rather analysis of
opportunity for investing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, during valuation the firm must undertake strategic mapping on these elements to select real
investment project.
However, strategic option is subject to abuse particularly due to absence of any formal valuation
procedures. This means that strategic option can be highly politicized by the management. In practice,
this valuation approach is myopic and may lead firms to undervaluing the future, and thus, to under
invest by deferring viable investment projects. Also, at times managers may use strategic options by
inputting informal procedures or personal bias by deliberately championing or defending certain
investment opportunities causing overinvestment.
Question 2:
Adjusted Present Value (APV) approach is an income based valuation method employed as a variant
to DCF tool, but does not use any WACC calculation. By using APV method, one can ascertain
enterprise value by separating out as well as accounting for tax attributes of debts/borrowing and
inherent incremental bankruptcy risk associated with additional debt. During valuation, the APV
approach measures a firm s enterprise value (EV) as the value of a company devoid of debt (
unlevered enterprise), plus prevent value of tax savings from company s debt. Specifically, APV
valuation estimates unleveraged cost of equity most often using CAPM approach, expected cash flow

Thomas Keller Research Paper
Chef of all Chefs: Thomas Keller
Thomas Keller is the one and only American chef to receive more than one three star rating from the
Michelin Guide. Keller has numerous awards and recognitions for his talent within the food world. He
is not only an amazing chef, but he is a revolutionary one. Keller says his cooking style is an
evolutionary process in that it is always growing and changing much like the world. Thomas Keller is
a very, very successful chef given that he didn t attend any special, high priced culinary schools to

He later began cooking at the same restaurant. Further down the line, in Narragansett, Rhode Island he
took on the job of working at The Dunes Club for Roland Henin. Henin said he had originally hired
Keller to prepare meals for the staff, who were often the daughters and sons of the members of the
club. Henin also mentioned that the staff stopped their incessant whining, or as Henin said bitching , a
few days after Keller was hired as staff chef. Keller was able to gain approval with attention and care
in detail. He cooked with an emotion that just screamed love for his work. That landed him his
upgrade to night saucier, which is right under sous chef. Becoming night saucier led him to learning
the fundamentals of classic cooking. Keller mentions that this was a turning point in his career, he
became very serious about cooking. Keller describes that Henin taught him how the great cooks
operated and that their job also requires the nurturing of people. Keller went on to work for various
establishments in Florida and New York. He then decided it was time to move to Paris in 1983, where
he worked for various Michelin starred restaurants such as Guy Savoy. He returned to New York a
short time later to La Reserve which gained him critical attention as chef de cuisine. He then
cofounded a restaurant with Serge Raoul

The Odyssey, Medea, And Oedipus The King
While our class has been covering different aspects of Greek civilization, I was assigned to read the
literature from that time period. Some examples of the literature I read was The Iliad, The Odyssey,
Medea, and Oedipus The King. These readings show direct relations to the concepts and ideas that
occurred in Greek civilization during this time in history. Some of the recurring themes throughout
these stories are religion, philosophy, and hospitality. Polytheism, fate, and hospitality towards others
are some of the important concepts that were held by the Greeks. The religious views of the Greek
civilization is evident throughout the literature of that time period. The Greeks were known to have
been a Polytheistic people, who believed in multiple gods/goddesses. They believed these gods
constantly interfered with their lives, both in good and bad ways, which is shown in the literature. Not
only do the characters pray or converse with these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One important value the Greeks held was hospitality. In The Odyssey, Odysseus travels through many
different places. As he encounters new people, they often welcome him in immediately. In fact,
hospitality was so common that whenever Odysseus encounters the island inhabited by cyclops, he
assumes he is welcome and begins to eat their food and drink. The concept of hospitality in the literary
works connects not only to their civilization in general, but specifically connects with their religious
beliefs. I believe it is possible that the Greeks gave hospitality to others on behalf of their
gods/goddesses rather than just out of kindness. One example of this would be in the Iliad, where
Achilles welcomes in other men such as Odysseus to his hut and prepares them food. He does this
before asking about their intentions. This seems a little weird by today s standards, as this happened
before Achilles had joined their side in

Death Is Not Master By Thomas Miller
Let them die They want eternity In May Miller s Poem Death is not Master the persona explains that
death is not the master that will increase the desperation but it is a way to become eternally calm.
Many poems on the topic of death explain how it is as powerful of a thing that fears the existence of
human beings, but Miller s persona death is a way to achieve eternal serenity. She explains death as
something that can end all the worldly tears, desires and tension and transform the human memory
into a sculpture which is unaware of tensions. Miller s persona believes that blocking death will be
unfair as it will be a barrier to the everlasting happiness and calmness that lies inside the grave. Miller
s persona is an elaboration of Christian beliefs that death ends all worldly problems as an eternal life
starts after the death. The eternal life of a human or corpse after death is same as that of sculpture
which shines at night and remain in one place free of all tensions and problems. As the life after death
is full of calmness and happiness, so it must not be blocked and everyone must welcome it to gain the
everlasting lasting life. Thus, in Miller s perspective death is not the master; instead, it is the slave of
eternal life of serenity and calmness that lies ahead. So, no one should try to become a barrier by
blocking the death. Repetition of you six times and I three times creates the relationship between I and
You who love each other a lot and never want

Alfred Binet
Alfred Binet (July 11, 1857 October 18, 1911) was a French psychologist who invented the first
usable intelligence test, known at the time as the Binet test and today referred to as the IQ test His
principal goal was to identify students who needed special help in coping with the school curriculum.
Along with his collaborator Théodore Simon, Binet published revisions of his intelligence scale in
1908 and 1911, the last appearing just before his death. Binet was born as Alfredo Binetti in Nice, then
part of the Kingdom of Sardinia. He was the only child of a physician father and an artist mother. His
parents separated when he was young, and Binet then moved to Paris with his mother. He attended law
school, and earned his degree in 1878. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Simon had nominated himself a few years before as Binet s research assistant and worked with him on
the intelligence tests that Binet is known for, which share Simon s name as well. In 1905, a new test
for measuring intelligence was introduced and simply called the Binet Simon scale. In 1908, they
revised the scale, dropping, modifying, and adding tests and also arranging them according to age
levels from three to thirteen.
In 1904 a French professional group for child psychology, La Société Libre pour l Etude
Psychologique de l Enfant, was called upon by the French government to appoint a commission on the
education of retarded children. The commission was asked to create a mechanism for identifying
students in need of alternative education. Binet, being an active member of this group, found the
impetus for the development of his mental scale.
Binet and Simon, in creating what historically is known as the Binet Simon Scale, comprised a variety
of tasks they thought were representative of typical children s abilities at various ages. This task
selection process was based on their many years of observing children in natural settings. They then
tested their measurement on a sample of fifty children, ten children per five age groups. The children
selected for their study were identified by their school teachers as being average for their age. The
purpose of this scale of normal functioning, which would later be revised twice using more stringent
standards, was to compare

Dangers Of Being A Police Officer
When one is thinking about a career in law enforcement there is a lot to consider. The job can be
stressful and come with a lot of dangerous situation. Being a police officer can be a very rewarding
job and can make you have a sense of purpose. Police officers can be put into dangerous situation very
quickly, so they have to be able to think quickly on their feet. One may become a police officer for the
sense of reward, but it comes with a lot of stress and dangers.
Policeman can have a stressful job and sometimes it gets in the way of their lives away from work.

Without incorporating some type of stress reliever the job may become overwhelming and can lead to
serious health problems. The majority of police officers are men and a small percentage are women.
This field is mostly dominated by men and has been for many years. According to University of San
Diego (2017), talks about how women can have a positive effect in this field. When dealing with sex
assaults the female victim may not want to talk to a male this is where the female police officer may
have a positive impact. Many women who are looking may face a problem with equality when trying
to find a job. Most law enforcement departments are looking for physically fit and upper body strength
and sometimes there is a stereotypes of women being weak; however, that is not always the case.
Studies have found that women can make a positive impact on the community. In the beginning of the
semester we were required to take a career test, my results were that I tested high in public safety. I
think this is true, it goes along with the career that I plan on going into. Taking this test just made me
realize that it is the right career for me.
In conclusion, becoming a police officer is a big decision and is a lot to consider. The job can be
dangerous and come with a lot of stress; however it can be very rewarding. When first becoming a
police officer it may be difficult to adjust to work and home life, but it can be managed.

Capital Punishment Essay
Getting Rid of the Death Penalty
Capital punishment was a corrective measure that was widely used all over the world. It is difficult to
pin point the exact date of it s origin but it is a fact that it was practiced intensely during medieval
times. Crimes have occurred probably since the beginning of time and therefore there was a need for a
counter attack to minimize if not eradicate it completely. Laws were created for this purpose, but like
everything man creates they have proved imperfect and in some cases entirely unacceptable.
In Britain, as James B Christoph[1] points out, the major cause for this trend was the social and
economic chaos brought about by the Industrial Revolution. The spread of poverty as well as child ...

Several variations occurred in different countries, for example in Denmark, it was more honorable to
be executed by the sword than by the axe. In Sweden, beheading was carried out by axe, and in the
case of a woman, after the execution, her body was cremated.
The guillotine, is thought to have been created shortly before the French Revolution.2[3] It consisted
of two huge uprights between which a hatchet was placed, and erected on a platform reached by
taking 24 steps up. The doomed was tied to a plank, kneeling down, exposing his head. A cord
attached to the huge hatchet suspended it and when the time came, all the executioner had to do was
cut the cord. Due to its impressive nature, the Constituent Assembly in France decreed that everyone
condemned to death would be executed by this method. Once again, these forms of punishment prove
too severe for any conceivable crime.
In present day society, with the introduction of human right for all, such a form of punishment is
considered disturbing and so it should. This chapter in human history should not be forgotten though,
because many people are still emotionally scarred for life be it friends or family of the unfortunate
sufferers of this act. Instead, it should be known by all and past on to future generations so that even in
the worst of times, such an act should never manifest itself in anyone who has the power to introduce

Jane Addams and the Successful Hull House Essay
Jane Addams and her colleague, Ellen Gates Starr, founded the most successful settlement house in
the United States otherwise known as the Hull House ( Settlement 1). It was located in a city overrun
by poverty, filth and gangsters, and it could not have come at a better time (Lundblad 663). The main
purpose of settlement houses was to ease the transition into the American culture and labor force, and
The Hull House offered its residents an opportunity to help the community, was a safe haven for the

The During The Gilded Age America Experienced The Second...
During the Gilded Age America experienced the Second Industrial Revolution . Between the end of
the Civil War and the early twentieth century, the United States underwent one of the most rapid and
profound economic revolutions any country has ever experienced. There were numerous causes for
this explosive economic growth. The country enjoyed abundant natural resources, a growing supply of
labor, an expanding market for manufactured goods, and the availability of capital for investment. The
uprising of big businesses, railroads, and factory transformed America from being based on small farm
work into an industrial powerhouse. During the Second Industrial Revolution the role of big business
in federal and state governments was a monumental turning point in the history of this country, setting
a foundation which has come to play a big role in government policy today. In a time period where the
American Government did not have a real system in place for becoming an elected official, a great
portion of the government was corrupted by people put in place by owners of big businesses and in
turn they agreed to pass laws or do other favors for their benefit. Moguls such as John D. Rockefeller,
and Andrew Carnegie played major roles big business. The rapid expansion of factory production,
mining, and railroad construction in all parts of the country except the South signaled the transition

William Penn John Winthrop s Goals in Colonization Essay
During the early colonization of the East coast of North America, many groups of people of Europe
came to the New World such as the Puritans and Quakers. Both the Puritans, led by John Winthrop,
and the Quakers, led by William Penn, were escaping persecution from England but each they had
their own views and goals in religion, politics, and ethnic relations. Being on the native land of the
local Indians, both Penn and Winthrop had to face issues and negotiations with the Indians. Penn and
Winthrop had their own separate approaches to politics but they both sought a more just system than
the one in England. After being persecuted, both Penn and Winthrop wanted their people to be free

Escaping from a corrupt government that England had oppressing them for many years, both Winthrop
and Penn wanted a government which was self governing and a government that was just for people.
These early types of government would later help the creation of the government that would being the
United States.
The biggest motivation in Penn and Winthrop was their views on religion and how it should be carried
out in the community. Penn was one the few and first to believe in religious toleration and freedom to
worship any religion without the fear of persecution. The Quaker communities would welcome all
forms of religion such as Baptism and Evangelism while the Puritans would be very secluded. The
Puritans thought any other religion would bring in vile thought and immoral ideals that would affect
their community. Puritans would discourage any other form of religion which made them a very
isolated, homogenous, group of people. Penn s views would also shape the future government of the
United States.
Penn and Winthrop led their people to the New World with the hopes of starting a new, safe, society
that escaped persecution. Their contact with the Indians and their differing views of religion would
help them shape the politics of their communities. They both came with the similar goals but they
would each carry it out in their own specific way. These early colonists would help influence the
founding of many other communities, bringing in many new ideals

Immigration Into Canada
Immigration Into Canada
Abstract This paper is concerned with the recent wave of Hong Kong immigrants into Vancouver. The
stage is set for this discussion by first explaining some background behind Canadian immigration
policy and then discussing the history of
Chinese immigrants in Vancouver. From these discussions we are informed that
Canadian immigration policy was historically ethnocentric and only began to change in the late 1960s.
It was at this point that we see a more multicultural group of immigrants into our nation. The history
of Chinese immigration in
Vancouver, and for that matter, Canada is not positive one. The experiences and prejudices which were
developed over 100 years ago still colours the way in which we view one ... Show more content on

Throughout the 20th Century the Canadian government has set targets for the number of immigrant
entries based upon economic criteria. Periods of encouragement have included the early decades of
this century along with the reconstruction era of Post World War II. The 30s, 40s and the recession of
the early 80s have been periods during which the national government has discouraged immigration.
At times, economic concerns have given way to humanitarian ones such as during the Soviet invasions
of Hungary and Czechoslovakia, and during the Vietnamese refugee crisis of the 70s. Generally,
however, Canadian immigration targets have reflected the rate of economic expansion and
employment. An exception to this rule was during the latter part of the 1980s. Worry over the
declining fertility rate and our ageing population led the federal government to raise its annual targets
despite high unemployment. Most recently, under economic pressures, the most recent Liberal
government once again lowered the immigration level.
The Geography of Immigration There have also been attempts at controlling the geography of
immigrant settlement. The Federal government stated that one of the primary goals of immigration is
to, foster the development of a strong and viable economy and the prosperity of all regions in Canada.
Immigration in our country has been seen as a means of promoting economic development in less
prosperous regions, as well as supporting heartland areas. While the

The Innocence of Lamb in Songs of Innocence by William Blake
Songs of Innocence by William Blake collocates the naïve lives of children and loss of innocence of
adults, with moral Christian values and how religion has the capacity to promote cruelty and
prejudice. Blake was born in 1757, up to and after the French Revolution he wrote many works
criticizing enlightened rationalism and instead focused on intellectual ideas that avoided
institutionalization and propelled ethical and moral order. Blake s collection of poem exposes and
explores the values and limitations of secular and religious institutions. The Lamb focuses on children
s naivetés and innocence, but also curiosity in regards to faith, and ideas of nature and God. Though
naiveté and meekness are present throughout The Lamb , Blake focuses on an underlying Christian
theme of combining the pastoral with the spiritual. For example, the speaker, a boy, talks to a lamb, his
beastly counterpart. The boy, speaking to the lamb asks. Little lamb, who made thee? (Blake 1). The
opening query asked by the boy represents rhetoric of both the natural and spiritual world. Bryan
Aubrey, in his critical essay of the lamb states, everything in creation is embraced by the tenderness of
the divine...[there] is no separation between human self, the natural world, and the divine kingdom
(Aubrey 1). Therefore, just as Blake suggests the lamb does not just represent the innocent but is the
principal idea of the poem. The lamb represents unity among nature and religious creation.

Bourdieu Cultural Capital
Briefly describe Bourdieu s theory of cultural capital and discuss how it might influence our
experience of consumer culture.
In his work on privilege and disadvantage, Bourdieu outlined three forms of capital individuals can
possess which increase social mobility. He maintained that economic, social and cultural capital are all
influential in the interaction between individuals and their place in society. Cultural capital is
described as having everything required to fit in with a certain group of people (Davies 2018).
Examples of these requirements include having the appearance, accent, education, tastes and
knowledge considered appropriate by the group. Investment into one s cultural capital can be achieved
by conforming to a social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Weber s work on class he identified three areas of influence in social stratification. These areas are
wealth, prestige and power (Davies 2018). Following this line of thought, privilege is the ability to
access greater quantities of wealth, maintain strong social supports, and possess the resources needed
for social mobility. Conversely, disadvantage is the combination of low levels of individual agency
and high structural inequality due to the uneven distribution of wealth and opportunity, resulting in a
lower capacity for social mobility (Davies 2018). When a person who is considered privileged
experiences unemployment, it is likely to be with lower levels of stress and fewer negative impacts on
daily life than someone who is at a disadvantage. For example, a privileged person with strong social
connections may use these networks to find a new job, thus reducing the fear of long term
unemployment. They are also more likely to have access to wealth in forms other than wages, such as
investments, inheritances and family properties which they can turn to while in transition. The ability
to make individual choices and possessing the capacity to act on those choices is known as agency
(Davies 2018). For a person experiencing unemployment agency may involve being selective about
the jobs they apply for, as opposed to needing to take the first available job in order to survive. These
financial and social support systems decrease the urgency of employment. Nevertheless, as Humphry
(2016) explains, work forms part of our identity. Consequently, privileged individuals will feel
pressure to find employment to maintain an identity as a contributing member of society. For
privileged individuals, unemployment may result in a threat to their identity and lifestyle, however,
the lack of vulnerability they experience is an example of the continuing disparity between

The Man Who Killed The Deer Analysis
Tradition is a big part of a cultural identity. Traditions are not loved nor understood immediately,
however with time the importance of tradition becomes evident as it makes people unique. As a kid,
serving meals every thanksgiving may feel insignificant and tedious, but as an adolescent the small
amount of time spent as a family doing something annually has a lasting impact on one s values. Frank
Waters fictional novel, The Man Who Killed the Deer, Martiniano struggles to find a faith after he
illegally kills a deer. Neither the whites not the Indians seem welcoming because he offends both by
breaking the law and not showing respect to Indian ideology. The deer continues to haunt him until he
understands the role of nature and the cycle of life. The poem I Have Killed the Deer , written by a
Taos Pueblo Indian, emphasizes the importance of equality and the mystical connection with nature.
Both works highlight the unique Indian perspective of nature and its contribution their identity. Both
Martiniano and the Taos Pueblo Indian use nature to provide life; Martiniano s self centered view on
the old Indian traditions prevent him from finding peace in a faith, while the Taos Pueblo Indian fully
appreciates and understands his role in nature. While both Martiniano and the Taos Pueblo Indian use
death to provide themselves with life, the two show a different level of respect to the role of nature.
After Martiniano returns from the Government school, he loses part of his

Operations Management
Great Northern Bunk Beds, Inc.
Introduction
Deciding whether to invest or not is a complicated task for today s companies. Managers need to make
thorough studies, analysing additional costs and revenues, in order to be able to make the most
reasonable decision. A big investment implies a great expenditure and, generally, a late return. If a
company does not consider thoroughly the requirements and the outcomes of a particular investment,
the organization may suffer a big loss and even be severely prejudiced.
Matt Dorman, manager of Great Northern Bunk Beds, Inc, a high quality custom made beds
manufacturing company, is considering a new big investment. Currently, Dorman only has a small size

Question 2
To answer the second question we will use similar procedures to the one conducted above. Now the
difference is that we have two workers instead of one, which will allow GNBB to increase the
production s capacity in the firm. We will assume that an additional worker will enable the division of
operations time per two, that is, a decrease of 50% in the total operational time of each batch.
Regarding the new location Jessup, the factory will now be able to have a process with multiple tasks.
This means that two workers can work in two different tasks at the same time. However, considering
that the group decided to assume that the additional worker will imply a decrease in every operation s
time of 50%, it makes no difference having two workers doing different steps

Theories Of The Four Humors
Christianity s framework stemmed from the Judaic religious faith and transformed into one of the
most widely practiced religions in the world. According to Ferngren, by the year AD 60, Christianity
was a rising new religion founded by Jesus of Nazareth, who is believed to be the Christian Messiah.
He was put to death at the hands of those who opposed His religious teachings by crucifixion, and on
the third day after His death, He rose from the dead. As a result, Jesus cemented Christians faith in His
teachings by bringing them hope. During His time on Earth, Jesus preached many of God s ideas to
his disciples, one of which included healing the sick (Ferngren, 2014, pp.73 74). To understand the
basis of healing, it first must be understood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to many different interpretations through translation of scriptures, there are many different
viewpoints of disease etiology and healing. For this reason, not all Christians believed in the same
methods of healing or even how these diseases came about (Amundsen, 1982, pg. 1). Amundsen states
that some Christians saw naturalistic as the ultimate cause which contrasted other beliefs that the
naturalistic approach was inferior and saw that supernatural powers were the ultimate cause of disease.
This shows that Christians were influenced by both personalistic and naturalistic etiologies on disease
and health. In summary, although in Christianity not all scriptural texts are translated exactly the same,
there is the overlapping viewpoint among Christians that God is the ultimate healer and through Him,
disease comes as a result of sin (Amundsen, 1982, pg.

Relationship Between Indentured Servants And Slaves
The typical colonial planter s views were inconsistent due to the exploited non white races within the
vast majority of indentured servants and the economic manipulation of the British government.
Indentured servants and slaves were overworked by their masters because exploitive colonial planters
and plantation owners pushed them to the degree that they eventually died at a very early. When
indentured non white servants migrated to Virginia in the seventeenth century, they were immediately
put to work because masters sought to gain wealth as soon as possible and lead forty percent of these
servants to die before their four year term was finished (Jovanovich, 1984). Inhumane exploitation

Substance Use Disorder ( Sud )
Substance Use Disorder s (SUD) have become an escalating issue in the mental health field over the
last few decades. The alarming incline to drug related and co occurring maladaptive behaviors has
created a dedicated science to better understand and define this problematic situation. Definition
allows the therapeutic process to evolve around the symptomatic problem in order to deliver the hope
of recovery. Social stigmas often view drug abuse and addiction as one in the same, but when viewed
by the clinician, they take on an important role in defining treatment. Drug abuse is viewed as a
reoccurring use of a substance outside of its intended purpose resulting in negative consequences. The
use of drugs in any form, is often voluntary and has a high risk factor of developing dependency that
leads to addiction. The American Society of Addiction Medicine has characterized addiction by the
inability to consistently abstain, impaired behavior control, craving, diminished cognitive behavior in
regards to relationships, and dysfunctional emotional response (ASAM, 2011). At this point, the
progressive substance use cannot be changed without a course of treatment. The therapist s
subscription to a particular pharmacological theory, such as the disease model,
behavioral/environmental model, or diathesis stress model can determine the therapeutic approach.
Considering the disease model as a theory that drives substance abuse, has been debated by many
scientists for years due to how

The First Triumvirate
The First Triumvirate The first triumvirate was and alliance between three prominent politicians,
Crassus, Pompey and Julius Caesar. The Roman historian Livy described the First Triumvirate as a
conspiracy against the state by its three leading citizens . The agreement was unofficial and private. It
was formed in the summer of 60 59 B.C. The first triumvirate however is a bit misleading in name.
Not only was it never called that by the contemporary Romans, but it was a far more inclusive factio

Caesar offered Pompey another wife, his grandniece Octavis. Pompey refused, instead choosing to

Customer Service and Cabin Crew
1.Introduction The aim of this report is to analyse Ryanair s current service culture and provide a new
strategy to refocus the Ryanair brand to make it more customer focused and family friendly. In 1971,
Southwest Airlines revolutionised air travel with its low fares and strong focus on customer service.
Ryanair used Southwest s innovative business model and have become very successful. Today it
operates across 26 countries and carries more international passengers than any other airline in the
world (73 million passengers in 2010/11) On the other hand, unlike Southwest Airlines, Ryanair did

Although pilots and the cabin crew work very hard, they are still underpaid. According to ITF s
survey, EasyJet staff earn better than Ryanair s. In addition to that, the cabin crew are expected to pay
for their own uniforms, airport ID and meals (see appendix 4) as well as training expenses. For
example, it has been reported by ITF that trainee pilots have to pay £60,000 for their own training and
they are not paid salary during this period. They pay this money as they hope it will result in them
earning a high salary after they qualify, but this is not guaranteed. 2.3 Recruitment methods and
Training It seems like Ryanair follows the normal procedure for recruitment (advertising, interviewing

also shows how safety and security checks are inadequate, how dirty the planes are, as well as
exhausted employees who complain about the long working hours. All these resulted in poor
performance and work results. The highlighted service culture problems urgently need to be fixed.
Otherwise it would affect Ryanair s success and effectiveness in the long term. Ryanair needs to

One of the main disadvantages of removal of partial denture is that it has a higher tendency to
accumulate plaque which affects the periodontal health of the abutment teeth. There are factors that
determine the retention of plaque by the denture such as the material of denture, oral hygiene of the

Effect Of Witchcraft On Europe
The effect of Witchcraft accusations on Europe in the middle Ages Witches, are they real or fake? That
question continues to be asked today. However, in the Middle Ages, a time period blurred by war,
religious incursions, and disease, witches may have or may have not have existed, but something that
was just as bad if not worse did. Witchcraft accusations. Witchcraft accusations unleashed a whole
host of new problems such as: rampant persecution and paranoia, and the death of hundreds of
thousands of innocent people, and the use of politics rather than religion when they so often went hand

The witchcraft accusations and the first witchcraft trials, begin with the Spanish Inquisition which was
started by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella (Spanish Inquisition). The Spanish Inquisition began in
1478 after it was approved by Pope Sixtux IV (Spanish Inquisition History of the Spanish Inquisition).
Although it was suspended by various kings and queens throughout the years, the Inquisition did not
officially end until 1834 (Ryan). The purpose of the inquisition was to try to unite the country under
one faith by forcing out anyone who did not believe or practice completely, the Catholic faith.
However, it was The Basque Witch Trials that went from 1609 1614 that was the greatest effort to get
rid of heretics or witches (Mastin). The inquisition was a political stunt because they turned hostile

What Is The Character Of King Lear In King Lear
The play King Lear centers around the King and his daughters, following their journeys after the
transfer of Lear s power. However, at the end, it s not Lear who comes out on top, nor any of his
daughters, but instead Edgar. Edgar s journey is filled with ups and downs throughout the play, as he
adapts to new situations and faces new challenges. Although he is not the main character, Edgar
deserves to live and become the ruler of Britain.
Edgar, as the legitimate son of Gloucester, was the rightful heir all along. He was manipulated by his
brother Edmund and ran away, disguising himself as crazy man called Poor Tom. Edmund was jealous
of his social status and craved power for himself. As a result, Edmund tricked Edgar into leaving.
Before Edmund s drove him away, Edgar had a high position in society:

Of Bedlam beggars who with roaring voices
Strike in their numbed and mortified bare arms
Pins, wooden pricks, nails, sprigs of rosemary,
And with this horrible object, from low farms,
Poor pelting villages, sheepcotes, and mills,
Sometime with lunatic bans, sometime with prayers,
Enforce their charity. Poor Turlygod! Poor Tom!
That s something yet. Edgar I nothing am. (II, iii, 134)

the play. He had everything stripped away from him, clearly stating that he has been reduced to

Critical Appreciation Of The Poem The Wanderer
Response to Literature: The Wanderer The Wander is an Elegy style poem that depicts the suffering,

Although, there is still a lot of debate on whether or not there was only one narrator throughout the

Reflection Paper On Cultural Experience
For my cultural experience, I decided to connect with my roots. Even though I am Hispanic American,
my parents never truly exposed me to my Mexican culture. This assignment seemed like the perfect
opportunity to connect with elements of my heritage.
My parents were born and raised in downtown Joliet, so I went to them to ask them where the best
place would be to go find those types of experiences. They told me that the East side of Joliet would
be my best chance of experiencing a new cultural experience.
The following day, I decided to take a trip to this region. As I came closer to approaching the East
side, I noticed that the surroundings around me started changing quite drastically. A great percentage
of signs posted on billboards and businesses were written in Spanish. No English on the signs was
visible anywhere either. I also noticed that great amount of businesses that were being run by Hispanic
men. Considerably much greater than any businesses located in my neighborhood. I decided to stop at

Members of the community thought the boys to being worshippers of Satan because of their apparent
taste for wearing black and listening to heavy suggestive music like Metallica. In this community that
was noted to be outlier behavior, since the majority of the members lived conservative, Christian
lifestyles. Since the teenagers expressed different interests than the majority of the community they
were an easy pick for the suspects of the killings. Even Damien Echols stated that they were the
obvious choice, because they already stood out from the rest. The minority attacking the majority is
called a centripetal attack. This upward attack is directed from the margins to the center meaning the
minority attack is directed towards the majority. This attracts centrifugal law which works against the
minority attackers. Centrifugal law is greater than the opposite, centripetal law, so it is considered
more serious for the margin to commit crimes against the socially integrated. This goes along with the
idea that the unconventionality of the boys allowed them to be targets and therefore subject to more

where they lived. As mentioned before, the people of West Memphis are God loving people who put

previous war with Iran. The only way for Iraq to obtain revenue was through oil exports. Kuwait, who
didn t need the extra revenue, was overproducing which drove prices down, and drove Saddam s
frustration up (Wilson, 1995). Enough time has elapsed to study the economic impact of the Gulf War
on the region. Most of the economic costs were incurred by Iraq. Losses in military equipment alone
totaled over $50 billion (Wilson, 1995). The time and effort needed to repair the damage and build
replacement facilities will take years to accomplish. This will also be difficult for Iraq because of the
pending arms embargo on the state. The economic position may be easier for Kuwait, although the
impact is still hard felt. The most expansive damage was that inflicted upon the oil installations.
Overall, the costliest damage was the environmental disaster caused by the oil slicks, which cost more

Jan Van Eyck s Arnolfini Double Portrait
In the article Sexuality and Social Standing In Jan van Eyck s Arnolfini Double Portrait the author
analyzes the religious and social grammars of marriage. This short paper will be a reflection of

helped me realize that pieces of art are not simply pictures, rather they are narratives like a scene in a

marital norms when this piece was made. There are different scenes of this portrait that van Eyck s
uses throughout to identify social standards of the time this piece was done. The fruit is there to

Children Of A Lesser God Summary
In Children of a Lesser God, the perception of deafness by hearing individuals is one of inferiority by
James. People who assume deaf individuals signing as inferior in some way, are not able to recognize
the person as someone who simply just communicates in a different language. Like with any
individual, the only way to break the us vs them barrier is to get to know the person, no matter who, is
by a means of communication that satisfies and connects both parties.
Firstly, there are multiple perceptions on the deaf community. James was not able to respect Sarah s
decision to communicate in her language since he held speaking and lip reading to a superior standard
to signing. He had view closer to that of an oralist and wanted Sarah to overcome by attempting to
speak and read lips, so that [she] could better keep pace with [her] normal competitors (Baynton). This
puts an emphasis on deaf people and signing as primitive and inferior when compared to speaking.
Another perception of deafness is one of having a disability that is easily accommodated by signing
and other forms of communication in order to survive in the world of hearing. This is a view of the
principal, Dr. Franklin and is labeled as combinist . The final, contrasting perception is that of the
scholar that James and Sarah visit. She was able to not only survive with her abilities but also to
thrive. In the scenes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Personal Identity- Philosphy
It is easy to see oneself as the same person we were ten, twenty, or fifty years ago. We can define
identity through our physical presence, life experiences, memories, and mental awareness of self. One
can testify our persistence as a person through our existence as a person. But what makes us the same
person? In this paper, I will argue for the simple view of the persistence of identity that it is impossible
to determine what single thing that makes us the same person over time. I will support my claim with
the refutation of the main complex view claims of the body, brain and psychological continuity

Similarly, if individual C had their body cloned, it would not make their clone the same person. There
is much more to personal identity than can be defined by something so comparatively insignificant as

the human body; the place where memories are stored, feelings are felt, and environmental signals are
processed. It is unsurprising, therefore, that the brain is so often considered to be the home of personal
identity. This theory is a staple of many science fiction texts as a convention, the cognizant brain in a
jar or brain transplant recipient is fairly common. Proponents of this we are our brains theory claim
that, so long as the brain persists, so does the person. Counter argument This theory seems to refer to
consciousness rather than the physicality of the brain, so it is important to make a clarification
between the two. Julian Baggini suggests that we should view the relationship between consciousness
and identity similarly to the relationship between a musical score and the paper it is written on
(Baggini, 2005, pp. 112 114). In other words, the brain is simply a storage space for our memories,
thoughts, and self awareness. Should it not, therefore, be so that an individual could simply persist as a
brain in a jar, provided they could be sustained in that state? If the entirety of personal identity is

range of employees work needs and experiences as well as career development choices. For example,
while younger generations are climbing the corporate ladder and entering the workforce expecting fast
paced, highly inclusive workplaces that offer customizable careers, retirement eligible employees are
delaying their retirement plans. By the same token, professional development resources that were once
relegated to entry level and new employees have become a necessity for workers at all levels. This
broadening of employees needs coupled with the increased responsiveness on the part of many
organizations, benefits gender diversity by helping change the norms and expectations about the way
employees work, increasing awareness about workplace trends in different cultural and national
contexts, and promoting more

Character Analysis Of The Last Airbender
The only thing I can really say about The Last Airbender is this: Epic Fail. Paramount Pictures gave
M. Night Shyamalan $150 million dollars to adapt the popular Nickolodeon cartoon for the big screen.
What they got is an absolute mess of a movie, complete with poor acting, the most hackneyed script
ever, and a last minute conversion to 3 D that only serves to destroys what was possibly some lush
cinematography. Airbender makes a determined effort. It is nigh impossible to find anything right with
Airbender. The story is ridiculously complex. In a world where people can manipulate (bend) the four
elements of air, earth, fire and water, depending on their tribal affiliation, there exists a being (the
Avatar) who can manipulate all four. This person is also the sole being capable of communing the the
spirit world which serves to keep things in balance. This being went missing 100 years ago, only to be
found in a giant ice sphere by two children of the water tribe. In the 100 years the Avatar has been
gone, the Fire tribe has begun conquering the others, though we re never really told why. The
disgraced Prince Zuko (Dev Patel) of the Fire tribe wants to the Avatar so he can return to his family.
The Water children need to save the Avatar to ensure the Fire people don t win. For this point on it
becomes to silly to try and summarize. Shyamalan succumbs to his own hubris, loading the film with
long, boring exposition communicated through long, boring speeches that I m sure were

The Handmaid s Tale By Margaret Atwood
I made that up. It didn t happen that way. Here s what happened. p. 301
It didn t happen that way either. I m not sure how it happened; not exactly. p. 303 I really admire
Margaret Atwood for incorporating questions a reader has while reading the novel and somehow
answering it through this writing technique. Unlike other authors who tell their story without room for
the reader to question the story s reliability, Atwood does exactly that. Offred often brings up that what
this is a retelling, a reconstruction of events encouraging the reader to actually analyze whether they
believe her story or not. For me, this style of writing has influenced me into thinking that since this is
a point that she brings up often, there is some reliability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Years earlier, Offred had visited with Luke, cheating on his wife and here she was again with the
Commander, also cheating on his wife. The irony between the two times has really allowed me to
witness how little Offred has changed compared to the immense changes that have occurred in society.
Perhaps Margaret Atwood wanted to transfer this message to her readers or maybe she just wanted to
allow the reader to easily follow this devastating tale. In any case, this technique worked well for me
throughout the span of the novel.
Different Uses of Similar Vocabulary
With that man you wanted it to work, work out. Working out was also something you did to keep your
body in shape. p. 262
More waiting. Lady in waiting: that s what they used to call those store where you could buy
maternity clothes. Woman in waiting sounds more like someone in a train station. Waiting is also a
place: it is wherever you wait. p.

Typical of our fights, it always ends with one of us...
Typical of our fights, it always ends with one of us banging the door, and walking away in fury. It has
always been our way of letting the other know that we are pissed beyond the thin stretch that separates
sane from the absolutely insane phase of things. Sigh. Well, to tell the truth, I am the one who does the
banging of the door most of the time. Anyway, early this month we moved into a new house, and
perhaps it was the pressure of moving, coupled with our tendency not agreeing with things that matter
(Like me insisiting that we need new curtains and him insisting that our old curtains will work just
fine in covering our windows, cus after all, they are just curtains *Sigh*) So he yells: DO WHAT
YOU WANT... and Bang! He slams the door ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He keeps quiet, looks at me as if he is digesting it all, and then says: I really need to leave and go do
something.. I sigh deeply, wondering if the feeling am feeling now is the kind that Nyeri women feel
before they go full swing into battering their husbands. Sigh! Well, we always get along pretty fine,
we are good kind of laid back and we thrive in laughing at the little weird things that life brings... But
errm, there are those times when he becomes a total pain in my nini, and I hate it when people are a
pain in the nini... I suddenly find him to be so insufferable and suddenly, my mind gets into cataloging
every little thing that he does to drive me crazy. (Which I will not list here, like how he wakes up in
the morning and while everyone else is asleep, he sings along to his country music or Rumba...again
and again until that is all that is playing in my mind long after he has left for work) Anyway, I sit
down to watch TV, and I suddenly wish

Government Polls
National polls are an important tool used by political parties and news outlets to gauge how the public
feels about current issues or political candidates. Only one month into his presidency, President
Donald Trump is facing a lot of heat from the public, and that is very evident in the polls. Polls can be
used for both good and evil. Some are used to promote agendas or favor towards certain politicians or
policy, while others can be used to simply see where the public stands on current issues.
Currently, according to Gallup, polls are showing that President Donald Trump s first month approval
ratings are below average first month ratings by 21 points (Gallup). While the average approval
number by the end of February is 61%, Trump s numbers are at 40%. The last time approval ratings
were this low within a president s first month was in 1993, when Bill Clinton stepped into office.
There are many reasons for our president s low numbers, ranging ... Show more content on

One thing that I found odd while researching for this paper is the variety of poll results across a small
selection of sources. For instance, CNN posted a poll update in late January, stating that our President
s job approval ratings were at an all time low at 36%. Underneath the large heading and introductory
statement, they mentioned that the information was gathered by one national poll that was provided by
one university. Should the findings of one poll, given by one university, be published as if they
represent all of the American population s views? Personally, I do not feel the need to pay attention to
polls when it comes to national politics. I am generally distrusting of the agendas that many news
outlets support when it comes to national polls, even though I still believe that polls aren t entirely
unnecessary. I fully support the idea of giving the public a way to compare views and express personal

However, the proper ways to love would be following Jesus s commands to always love one another regardless of race or background because everyone values love, love shapes what s good and it is explained in the Bible of the three different and enduring kinds of love: Eros, Agape and Philos. The first love is exponentially described in the Bible Eros love. This specific kind of love is based off of the physical traits associated with sexual as well as emotional involvement. That endearing click people hope to discover at least once in their lives. Eros goes off of strong feelings opposite sexes, even same sexes, have for one another. However, the bible proficiently claims that unless redeemed by the Lord s presence, then this love, Eros, can become a possessive, belittling feeling instead, since it tries to conquer first and then control, such an example being a marriage discovering problems that did not previously exist due to the other party not going about handling situations the way they had previously, or purposefully belittling the other. Eros love is a beastly form of love, a love that not unlike the famous Beauty and The Beast is based off of physical characteristics as well as sentiment from one being to another. • 6. Strategic Investment Decisions Involving Valuable Business... Valuation Questions Question 1: A strategic option is a valuation approach applied by firms when making strategic investment decisions involving valuable business opportunities. The approach is premised on the idea of remedying the shortcomings of DCF analysis model. This approach allows firms to value investment opportunities by ascertaining on future value benefits that a specific project would bring to firm, rather than looking at cash flow. Strategic options enable the management to formulate strategic decisions to inform on future opportunities that would be created through today s investments. Possible future operations are valued using strategic options, as no cash flow is analyzed, but rather analysis of opportunity for investing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, during valuation the firm must undertake strategic mapping on these elements to select real investment project. However, strategic option is subject to abuse particularly due to absence of any formal valuation procedures. This means that strategic option can be highly politicized by the management. In practice, this valuation approach is myopic and may lead firms to undervaluing the future, and thus, to under invest by deferring viable investment projects. Also, at times managers may use strategic options by inputting informal procedures or personal bias by deliberately championing or defending certain investment opportunities causing overinvestment. Question 2: Adjusted Present Value (APV) approach is an income based valuation method employed as a variant to DCF tool, but does not use any WACC calculation. By using APV method, one can ascertain enterprise value by separating out as well as accounting for tax attributes of debts/borrowing and inherent incremental bankruptcy risk associated with additional debt. During valuation, the APV approach measures a firm s enterprise value (EV) as the value of a company devoid of debt ( unlevered enterprise), plus prevent value of tax savings from company s debt. Some examples of the literature I read was The Iliad, The Odyssey, Medea, and Oedipus The King. These readings show direct relations to the concepts and ideas that occurred in Greek civilization during this time in history. Some of the recurring themes throughout these stories are religion, philosophy, and hospitality. Polytheism, fate, and hospitality towards others are some of the important concepts that were held by the Greeks. The religious views of the Greek civilization is evident throughout the literature of that time period. The Greeks were known to have been a Polytheistic people, who believed in multiple gods/goddesses. In fact, hospitality was so common that whenever Odysseus encounters the island inhabited by cyclops, he assumes he is welcome and begins to eat their food and drink. The concept of hospitality in the literary works connects not only to their civilization in general, but specifically connects with their religious beliefs. I believe it is possible that the Greeks gave hospitality to others on behalf of their gods/goddesses rather than just out of kindness. One example of this would be in the Iliad, where Achilles welcomes in other men such as Odysseus to his hut and prepares them food. He does this before asking about their intentions. • 10. Death Is Not Master By Thomas Miller Let them die They want eternity In May Miller s Poem Death is not Master the persona explains that death is not the master that will increase the desperation but it is a way to become eternally calm. Many poems on the topic of death explain how it is as powerful of a thing that fears the existence of human beings, but Miller s persona death is a way to achieve eternal serenity. She explains death as something that can end all the worldly tears, desires and tension and transform the human memory into a sculpture which is unaware of tensions. Miller s persona believes that blocking death will be unfair as it will be a barrier to the everlasting happiness and calmness that lies inside the grave. Miller s persona is an elaboration of Christian beliefs that death ends all worldly problems as an eternal life starts after the death. The eternal life of a human or corpse after death is same as that of sculpture which shines at night and remain in one place free of all tensions and problems. As the life after death is full of calmness and happiness, so it must not be blocked and everyone must welcome it to gain the everlasting lasting life. Thus, in Miller s perspective death is not the master; instead, it is the slave of eternal life of serenity and calmness that lies ahead. So, no one should try to become a barrier by blocking the death. Repetition of you six times and I three times creates the relationship between I and You who love each other a lot and never want ... Alfred Binet Alfred Binet (July 11, 1857 October 18, 1911) was a French psychologist who invented the first usable intelligence test, known at the time as the Binet test and today referred to as the IQ test His principal goal was to identify students who needed special help in coping with the school curriculum. Along with his collaborator Théodore Simon, Binet published revisions of his intelligence scale in 1908 and 1911, the last appearing just before his death. Binet was born as Alfredo Binetti in Nice, then part of the Kingdom of Sardinia. He was the only child of a physician father and an artist mother. Simon had nominated himself a few years before as Binet s research assistant and worked with him on the intelligence tests that Binet is known for, which share Simon s name as well. In 1905, a new test for measuring intelligence was introduced and simply called the Binet Simon scale. In 1908, they revised the scale, dropping, modifying, and adding tests and also arranging them according to age levels from three to thirteen. In 1904 a French professional group for child psychology, La Société Libre pour l Etude Psychologique de l Enfant, was called upon by the French government to appoint a commission on the education of retarded children. The commission was asked to create a mechanism for identifying students in need of alternative education. Binet, being an active member of this group, found the impetus for the development of his mental scale. Binet and Simon, in creating what historically is known as the Binet Simon Scale, comprised a variety of tasks they thought were representative of typical children s abilities at various ages. This task selection process was based on their many years of observing children in natural settings. They then tested their measurement on a sample of fifty children, ten children per five age groups. The children selected for their study were identified by their school teachers as being average for their age. It is difficult to pin point the exact date of it s origin but it is a fact that it was practiced intensely during medieval times. Crimes have occurred probably since the beginning of time and therefore there was a need for a counter attack to minimize if not eradicate it completely. Laws were created for this purpose, but like everything man creates they have proved imperfect and in some cases entirely unacceptable. In Sweden, beheading was carried out by axe, and in the case of a woman, after the execution, her body was cremated. The guillotine, is thought to have been created shortly before the French Revolution.2[3] It consisted of two huge uprights between which a hatchet was placed, and erected on a platform reached by taking 24 steps up. The doomed was tied to a plank, kneeling down, exposing his head. A cord attached to the huge hatchet suspended it and when the time came, all the executioner had to do was cut the cord. Due to its impressive nature, the Constituent Assembly in France decreed that everyone condemned to death would be executed by this method. Once again, these forms of punishment prove too severe for any conceivable crime. In present day society, with the introduction of human right for all, such a form of punishment is considered disturbing and so it should. This chapter in human history should not be forgotten though, because many people are still emotionally scarred for life be it friends or family of the unfortunate sufferers of this act. Between the end of the Civil War and the early twentieth century, the United States underwent one of the most rapid and profound economic revolutions any country has ever experienced. There were numerous causes for this explosive economic growth. The country enjoyed abundant natural resources, a growing supply of labor, an expanding market for manufactured goods, and the availability of capital for investment. The uprising of big businesses, railroads, and factory transformed America from being based on small farm work into an industrial powerhouse. During the Second Industrial Revolution the role of big business in federal and state governments was a monumental turning point in the history of this country, setting a foundation which has come to play a big role in government policy today. In a time period where the American Government did not have a real system in place for becoming an elected official, a great portion of the government was corrupted by people put in place by owners of big businesses and in turn they agreed to pass laws or do other favors for their benefit. The stage is set for this discussion by first explaining some background behind Canadian immigration policy and then discussing the history of Chinese immigrants in Vancouver. From these discussions we are informed that Canadian immigration policy was historically ethnocentric and only began to change in the late 1960s. It was at this point that we see a more multicultural group of immigrants into our nation. The history of Chinese immigration in Vancouver, and for that matter, Canada is not positive one. Throughout the 20th Century the Canadian government has set targets for the number of immigrant entries based upon economic criteria. Periods of encouragement have included the early decades of this century along with the reconstruction era of Post World War II. The 30s, 40s and the recession of the early 80s have been periods during which the national government has discouraged immigration. At times, economic concerns have given way to humanitarian ones such as during the Soviet invasions of Hungary and Czechoslovakia, and during the Vietnamese refugee crisis of the 70s. Generally, however, Canadian immigration targets have reflected the rate of economic expansion and employment. An exception to this rule was during the latter part of the 1980s. Worry over the declining fertility rate and our ageing population led the federal government to raise its annual targets despite high unemployment. Most recently, under economic pressures, the most recent Liberal government once again lowered the immigration level. The Geography of Immigration There have also been attempts at controlling the geography of immigrant settlement. The Federal government stated that one of the primary goals of immigration is to, foster the development of a strong and viable economy and the prosperity of all regions in Canada. • 21. The Innocence of Lamb in Songs of Innocence by William Blake Songs of Innocence by William Blake collocates the naïve lives of children and loss of innocence of adults, with moral Christian values and how religion has the capacity to promote cruelty and prejudice. Blake was born in 1757, up to and after the French Revolution he wrote many works criticizing enlightened rationalism and instead focused on intellectual ideas that avoided institutionalization and propelled ethical and moral order. Blake s collection of poem exposes and explores the values and limitations of secular and religious institutions. The Lamb focuses on children s naivetés and innocence, but also curiosity in regards to faith, and ideas of nature and God. Though naiveté and meekness are present throughout The Lamb , Blake focuses on an underlying Christian theme of combining the pastoral with the spiritual. For example, the speaker, a boy, talks to a lamb, his beastly counterpart. The boy, speaking to the lamb asks. Little lamb, who made thee? (Blake 1). The opening query asked by the boy represents rhetoric of both the natural and spiritual world. Bryan Aubrey, in his critical essay of the lamb states, everything in creation is embraced by the tenderness of the divine...[there] is no separation between human self, the natural world, and the divine kingdom (Aubrey 1). Therefore, just as Blake suggests the lamb does not just represent the innocent but is the principal idea of the poem. The lamb represents unity among nature and religious creation. ... Cultural capital is described as having everything required to fit in with a certain group of people (Davies 2018). Examples of these requirements include having the appearance, accent, education, tastes and knowledge considered appropriate by the group. Investment into one s cultural capital can be achieved by conforming to a social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Weber s work on class he identified three areas of influence in social stratification. These areas are wealth, prestige and power (Davies 2018). Following this line of thought, privilege is the ability to access greater quantities of wealth, maintain strong social supports, and possess the resources needed for social mobility. Conversely, disadvantage is the combination of low levels of individual agency and high structural inequality due to the uneven distribution of wealth and opportunity, resulting in a lower capacity for social mobility (Davies 2018). When a person who is considered privileged experiences unemployment, it is likely to be with lower levels of stress and fewer negative impacts on daily life than someone who is at a disadvantage. For example, a privileged person with strong social connections may use these networks to find a new job, thus reducing the fear of long term unemployment. They are also more likely to have access to wealth in forms other than wages, such as investments, inheritances and family properties which they can turn to while in transition. The ability to make individual choices and possessing the capacity to act on those choices is known as agency (Davies 2018). For a person experiencing unemployment agency may involve being selective about the jobs they apply for, as opposed to needing to take the first available job in order to survive. These financial and social support systems decrease the urgency of employment. Nevertheless, as Humphry (2016) explains, work forms part of our identity. Consequently, privileged individuals will feel pressure to find employment to maintain an identity as a contributing member of society. For privileged individuals, unemployment may result in a threat to their identity and lifestyle, however, the lack of vulnerability they experience is an example of the continuing disparity between ... • 23. The Man Who Killed The Deer Analysis Tradition is a big part of a cultural identity. Traditions are not loved nor understood immediately, however with time the importance of tradition becomes evident as it makes people unique. As a kid, serving meals every thanksgiving may feel insignificant and tedious, but as an adolescent the small amount of time spent as a family doing something annually has a lasting impact on one s values. Frank Waters fictional novel, The Man Who Killed the Deer, Martiniano struggles to find a faith after he illegally kills a deer. Neither the whites not the Indians seem welcoming because he offends both by breaking the law and not showing respect to Indian ideology. The deer continues to haunt him until he understands the role of nature and the cycle of life. The poem I Have Killed the Deer , written by a Taos Pueblo Indian, emphasizes the importance of equality and the mystical connection with nature. Both works highlight the unique Indian perspective of nature and its contribution their identity. Both Martiniano and the Taos Pueblo Indian use nature to provide life; Martiniano s self centered view on the old Indian traditions prevent him from finding peace in a faith, while the Taos Pueblo Indian fully appreciates and understands his role in nature. This shows that Christians were influenced by both personalistic and naturalistic etiologies on disease and health. Definition allows the therapeutic process to evolve around the symptomatic problem in order to deliver the hope of recovery. Social stigmas often view drug abuse and addiction as one in the same, but when viewed by the clinician, they take on an important role in defining treatment. Drug abuse is viewed as a reoccurring use of a substance outside of its intended purpose resulting in negative consequences. The use of drugs in any form, is often voluntary and has a high risk factor of developing dependency that leads to addiction. The American Society of Addiction Medicine has characterized addiction by the inability to consistently abstain, impaired behavior control, craving, diminished cognitive behavior in regards to relationships, and dysfunctional emotional response (ASAM, 2011). Airbender makes a determined effort. It is nigh impossible to find anything right with Airbender. The story is ridiculously complex. In a world where people can manipulate (bend) the four elements of air, earth, fire and water, depending on their tribal affiliation, there exists a being (the Avatar) who can manipulate all four. This person is also the sole being capable of communing the the spirit world which serves to keep things in balance. This being went missing 100 years ago, only to be found in a giant ice sphere by two children of the water tribe. In the 100 years the Avatar has been gone, the Fire tribe has begun conquering the others, though we re never really told why. The disgraced Prince Zuko (Dev Patel) of the Fire tribe wants to the Avatar so he can return to his family. The Water children need to save the Avatar to ensure the Fire people don t win. For this point on it becomes to silly to try and summarize. Shyamalan succumbs to his own hubris, loading the film with long, boring exposition communicated through long, boring speeches that I m sure were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I m not sure how it happened; not exactly. p. 303 I really admire Margaret Atwood for incorporating questions a reader has while reading the novel and somehow answering it through this writing technique. Unlike other authors who tell their story without room for the reader to question the story s reliability, Atwood does exactly that. Offred often brings up that what this is a retelling, a reconstruction of events encouraging the reader to actually analyze whether they believe her story or not. For me, this style of writing has influenced me into thinking that since this is a point that she brings up often, there is some reliability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Years earlier, Offred had visited with Luke, cheating on his wife and here she was again with the Commander, also cheating on his wife. The irony between the two times has really allowed me to witness how little Offred has changed compared to the immense changes that have occurred in society. Perhaps Margaret Atwood wanted to transfer this message to her readers or maybe she just wanted to allow the reader to easily follow this devastating tale. In any case, this technique worked well for me throughout the span of the novel. Different Uses of Similar Vocabulary With that man you wanted it to work, work out. Working out was also something you did to keep your body in shape. p. 262 More waiting. Lady in waiting: that s what they used to call those store where you could buy maternity clothes. Woman in waiting sounds more like someone in a train station. Waiting is also a place: it is wherever you wait. p. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Typical of our fights, it always ends with one of us... Typical of our fights, it always ends with one of us banging the door, and walking away in fury. It has always been our way of letting the other know that we are pissed beyond the thin stretch that separates sane from the absolutely insane phase of things. Sigh. Well, to tell the truth, I am the one who does the banging of the door most of the time. Anyway, early this month we moved into a new house, and perhaps it was the pressure of moving, coupled with our tendency not agreeing with things that matter (Like me insisiting that we need new curtains and him insisting that our old curtains will work just fine in covering our windows, cus after all, they are just curtains *Sigh*) So he yells: DO WHAT YOU WANT... and Bang! He slams the door ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He keeps quiet, looks at me as if he is digesting it all, and then says: I really need to leave and go do something.. I sigh deeply, wondering if the feeling am feeling now is the kind that Nyeri women feel before they go full swing into battering their husbands. Sigh! Well, we always get along pretty fine, we are good kind of laid back and we thrive in laughing at the little weird things that life brings... But errm, there are those times when he becomes a total pain in my nini, and I hate it when people are a pain in the nini... I suddenly find him to be so insufferable and suddenly, my mind gets into cataloging every little thing that he does to drive me crazy. (Which I will not list here, like how he wakes up in the morning and while everyone else is asleep, he sings along to his country music or Rumba...again and again until that is all that is playing in my mind long after he has left for work) Anyway, I sit down to watch TV, and I suddenly wish ... • 47. Government Polls National polls are an important tool used by political parties and news outlets to gauge how the public feels about current issues or political candidates. Only one month into his presidency, President Donald Trump is facing a lot of heat from the public, and that is very evident in the polls. Polls can be used for both good and evil. Some are used to promote agendas or favor towards certain politicians or policy, while others can be used to simply see where the public stands on current issues. Currently, according to Gallup, polls are showing that President Donald Trump s first month approval ratings are below average first month ratings by 21 points (Gallup). While the average approval number by the end of February is 61%, Trump s numbers are at 40%. The last time approval ratings were this low within a president s first month was in 1993, when Bill Clinton stepped into office. There are many reasons for our president s low numbers, ranging ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One thing that I found odd while researching for this paper is the variety of poll results across a small selection of sources. For instance, CNN posted a poll update in late January, stating that our President s job approval ratings were at an all time low at 36%. Underneath the large heading and introductory statement, they mentioned that the information was gathered by one national poll that was provided by one university. Should the findings of one poll, given by one university, be published as if they represent all of the American population s views? Personally, I do not feel the need to pay attention to polls when it comes to national politics. I am generally distrusting of the agendas that many news outlets support when it comes to national polls, even though I still believe that polls aren t entirely unnecessary. I fully support the idea of giving the public a way to compare views and express personal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
