Essay On Racial Profiling
It is frequently said that the way you approach someone is the way that they get their first
impression of you. So if you come off negatively at first, that lessens the chances of a person
liking you. This can also relate to the way someone perceives what type of person you are,
dependending upon looks, clothes, and of course race.
The act of racial profiling has become more serious than ever; although this problem has been
around for centuries, racial profiling has recently gained attention in the news. You may think that
the cases broadcasted on the news are the only major cases of racial profiling and that it doesn t
happen very often, but in reality it happens quite a bit.

I never knew that there was a big social differentiation between who hung out with who
dependent upon race. To be very blunt, the ratio of black to white people in my school was
about 4:1. I was a very quiet girl especially during my sixth grade year. In seventh grade I began
to open up more, but this caused frequent altercations. As people began to know my name I
recruited names such as preppy and white girl . I found the phrase white girl to be ironic
considering the fact that I am fully Hispanic. When I corrected anyone who believed I was
white, I would often get I didn t know you were mexican, you look like you re white! . These
accusations and the shocked looks on the faces of those who knew the truth never disappeared.
Being a Senior in High School and knowing most of my fellow classmates, I still frequently get
the same comments or faces of those who have never thought twice about my race because I look
white or I act white . Through the years of receiving comments like this, I ve come to the
realization that these judgements of people based upon their appearance happen all of the time. I
will admit to doing this myself and giving the same comments as I have gotten. These racial
judgements don t just come with African American or Caucasian

Aspects of Industrial Relations.
Industrial Relations or Labour Relations is an expression used not only for relationships between
employers and Trade Unions, but also for those involving Government with the aim of defining
policies, facing labour problems. The concept of industrial relations has a very wide meaning and
connotation. In the narrow sense, it means that the employer, employee relationship confines itself
to the relationship that emerges out of the day to day association of the management and the labour.
In its wider sense, industrial relations include the relationship between an employee and an
employer in the course of the running of an industry and may project it to spheres, which may

A Trade Union is any combination, whether temporary or permanent, formed primarily for the
purpose of regulating the relations between workmen and employers, or between workmen and
workmen, or between employers and employers, or for imposing restrictive conditions on the
conduct of any trade or business, and includes any federation of two or more trade union .Ellem,
(2004).The role of trade unions and their representatives The existence of a strong and recognized
trade union is a pre requisite to industrial peace. Decisions taken through the process of collective
bargaining and negotiations between employer and unions are more influential. Trade unions play
an important role and are helpful in effective communication between the workers and the
management. They provide the advice and support to ensure that the differences of opinion do not
turn into major conflicts. The central function of a trade union is to represent people at work. But
they also have a wider role in protecting their interests. They also play an important educational
role, organizing courses for their members on a wide range of matters. Seeking a healthy and safe
working environment is also prominent feature of trade union. Although trade unions look after the
interests of their members, they also recognize the advantages of working in partnership with
employers. This is because a successful, profitable business is good for workers and therefore good

Fundraiser Memorandum
Hi C.J. Our names are Logan and Maggie Huff. We are contacting you regarding the fundraiser
we have done for our niece Sophia Huff. We both started the fundraiser for Sophia however; the
funds were released to Logan, Brigham s brother. As you know, you have been receiving
numerous messages from Brigham Huff. We have also been the recipient of many harassing
and obscene messages. We have responded appropriately to those messages and we would like
to share with you our story. Brigham has racked up quite a criminal history in the last year. We
are truly unsure of his exact physical location at this time. We are unaware of where he is living

believes we are misusing the funds, which we have not, but he has. Brigham will not speak to us

Carl Robbins Case Analysis Revision * Introduction * The inexperience skill set of the recruiter
highlighted many areas within the ABC Inc. that need immediate attention. Drawbacks of
communication within the organization are evident; however, there are other components that need
to be considered. This case study analysis will provide the key components that contributed to the
failure of Carl s 1st recruitment effort. This case study will also review and provide
recommendations of the key components: Communication, Organizational Culture, and
Transparency.
Background
* In this case, Carl Robins is facing a few ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Transparency * Another key issue that Carl faced during this process was the transparency of the
applicants. Applicants failed to disclose some of the required information; thus, leading to the
disqualification of the candidate. In the case, Carl noticed some of the new hire candidates did not
completed their applications; therefore, making it difficult for the Carl to prove to management that
the candidate was properly qualified. * Experience * Experience is always a major factor that
influences the success of any process. In this case, Carl should have adequate knowledge in relation
to the process that ensures successful completion. In this case, Carl was on the job for a six month
period before getting his first handle at the recruiting process; this contributes to the unsuccessful
results of the case.
Alternatives
* There are numerous alternatives that Carl and the organization could have taken to address the
needs of the company and the recruitment process. For the most part, the organization is
responsible for the advertising and posting of the job positions available. Therefore, it results in the
recruiter having a wide range of candidates to narrow down the selections. In this case, Carl made
the choices but should have reviewed all the information from each candidate thoroughly prior to
their selection. Although Carl s initial thought process was making the process less complicated to

My Friend Uploaded A Post On Facebook And It Got Me...
Recently my friend uploaded a post on Facebook and it got me contemplating. The question was
posed by a man named Alan Watts and he asked, What would you like to do if money were no
object? This inquiry seems to be wandering the internet a bit because this was roughly the third
time that I have regarded it, so I took it as a sign and I paused to direct this question to myself.
Of course, there is a multitude of things that I yearn to do. If money wasn t the issue like many
of us make it out to be, of course, there would be ample to do. I discern that this question is posed
more for what type of work would you do but I was thinking about stuff that I would love to do
regardless. The most predominate desire for me is to travel. I love to write and that will always be
a constant thing, but I think it would be great to do both.
I recognize that many people would have a similar response, yet my strong desire to travel made
me consider deeply as to why I had such a tenacious want for it. I believe one of the reasons why
that deep down, we still hold on to the ancient survival instinct of migration, which can never
really be satisfied. I believe that this could also hold true for me. As I think more about it, I find
that it was not really the destinations that I want to go to but the means of the journey that I wish to
experience. My husband is the one who made me conscious of this. He likes to travel and see
places as well, but just didn t understand the concept of people

Essay on Evaluate Different Techniques for Sampling Evidence
3.1Evaluate different techniques for sampling evidence of assessment, including use of technology
There are a wide variety of techniques used for sampling the evidence of assessment which are all
valuable for different reasons. Below are listed these different techniques
a) Direct observation is the best way to evaluate the assessor s ability to carry out a fair and valid
assessment. The observation should ideally take place in the work environment and involve the
learner carrying out specific tasks as required for inclusion in the learner s portfolio of evidence.
The IQA can quickly establish the effect of the assessment on the learner and can get a good
impression of the rapport that the assessor has with the learner and the ... Show more content on

This can be problematic within the actual workplace
e) Questioning is another method of sampling evidence and will involve the questioning of both
the assessor and the candidate. To ensure that the evidence has the necessary validity the questions
to the learner should happen in private away from the assessor. The need for the learner to feel
that they have the confidence to disclose the true picture of the assessment process is very
important. The question sessions can be recorded on the necessary portfolio documentation but can
add validity if they are recorded on tape or digitally and used as evidence.
f) Underpinning knowledge questions can be sampled effectively as the Awarding Organisation
will provide the answers which can be checked and a total can be calculated and compared with
what the assessor has marked
g) E portfolios are a useful tool for assessments and can be sampled remotely along with virtual
assessment tools such as Skype etc. These can pose problems with validity as the assessor will
need to agree the conditions before assessment to ensure that the tasks have been completed by the
candidate and that there is no plagiarism which may interfere with the assessment process
h) The candidates will generally be allocated an expert witness whilst working on site. This person

Mexico Poverty
According to a 2015 study by The Organization for Economic Corporation and Development,
Mexico has one of the highest rates of income inequality in the world which inevitably leads to a
sharp contrast among living conditions, agency, and power between the rich and the poor.
Mexican society has been stratified since the Mexican revolution. The goals of the Mexican
revolution were to disperse wealth but the policies enacted made it difficult to make a living in a
rural setting thus serving as a catalyst for a mass emigration to cities where people were could only
find shelter in the slums
(https://history.libraries.wsu.edu/spring2016/2016/01/20/the poverty and social stratification in
mexico/). After watching the documentary about the One Child Policy in China, a common theme
appears to be that the poorest and most marginalized seem to be those living in rural societies. This
is most likely because generally speaking, the poor are the least educated simply because they
cannot afford it thus resulting in having to hold laborious jobs such as those in agriculture.
The distribution of wealth in Mexico is perhaps the leading cause for the social inequality so
prominent in the country. For the past 25 years the gap between the rich and poor has been steadily
increasing. According to the WEA the top 1% of Mexico s distribution has an average annual
income 47 times that of the poorest 1% (https://www.worldeconomicsassociation.org

The Motif Of Entrapment By Edith Wharton
Executive Order 9066, passed by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1942, forced all
Japanese Americans to pack up their lives and move to internment camps, a place where they
would live in shabby barracks and get treated unfairly by guards. This order confineded the
American citizens in heinous camps for up to three years. Because of their heritage, which could
be as little as one sixteenth Japanese, the citizens were obligated to move; they became trapped in
these camps where unhappiness was present in every aspect of life. Similarly, in the novel Ethan
Frome, the title character is trapped in his unhappy life due to marriage, family, property, and
financial liabilities. The author, Edith Wharton uses the motif of entrapment to prove how
obligations lead to unhappiness throughout the novel.
Ethan Frome and his wife, Zenobia (Zeena), never really know what true love feels like because
they are both very lonely people. They meet when Zeena is caring for Ethan s mother; due to
their loneliness, they mistake the bizarre feeling of companionship for love. Ethan marries
Zeena, not because he is in love, but because he does not want to be alone and he feels like he
owes it to her for everything she is doing for him. She is aware of this and claims, ...you grudged
me the money to get back my health, when I lost it nursing your own mother! And my folks all told
me at the time you couldn t do no less than marry me after (Wharton 83). In addition to Zeena

Medieval Math Research Paper
Medieval European interest in mathematics was driven in Italy, which later spread across most of
Europe. One powerful component was the certainty that mathematics could be key in understanding
the worlds secrets, as claimed by Plato s Timaeus and biblical passages. In the 6th century Boethius
coined the term quadrivium which define the study of arithmetic, geometry, astronomy, and music.
He wrote De institutione arithmetica , De institutione musica . His works became the basis of
mathematical study while the of Greek and Arabic mathematical were being mended. In the 12th

He studied a system of arithmetic which was much more efficient and greatly simplified. Leonardo
wrote Liber Abaci in 1202 which introduced the technique to Europe and would later be known
around the world. The book also brought was known as the Fibonacci sequence. Another important
figure was an Italian Franciscan named Luca Pacioli who lived in the late 15th and early 16th
Centuries, who issued a book on arithmetic, geometry and book keeping at the end of the 15th
Century which became known for its mathematical puzzles. It also introduced symbols for plus and
minus for the first time in a printed book. Pacioli also studied the Golden Ratio in his 1509 book
titled The Divine Proportion , as he closes by saying that the number was a message from God and
a source of secret knowledge about the inner beauty of things. During the late 16th Century, the
equals, multiplication, division, root, decimal and inequality symbols were introduced and
standardized. The use of decimal fractions and decimal arithmetic is usually attributed to the
Flemish mathematician Simon Stevin the late 16th Century, although the decimal point notation
was not popularized until early in the 17th Century. Stevin was ahead of his time in enjoining that
all types of numbers, whether fractions, negatives, and real numbers should be treated equally as

Analysis Of The Poem Death Of A Soldier

Analysis: Death of a Solider
Louisa May Alcott served as a volunteered nurse during the American Civil War, which took place
in the 1860 s. It was a brutal war between the United States and the Confederate states. Alcott
documented the last days of a brave solider named John. The almost thirty year old seldom spoke,
uttered no complaint, asked no sympathy, but tranquilly observed what went on about him.
With the use of several changing literary parts in the essay, Death of a Soldier, written by Louisa
May Alcott, the writer s remembrance of such a terrible disaster is a lot simpler to imagine and
feel than if she had recited her tale dully and emotionless. The meaning of Louisa May Alcott s,
Death of a Soldier is obvious in its reason to accentuate the different responses of a person in
relation to death, in addition to describing the more pleasing results of such a sad incident. She
expressed her story by the use of vivid descriptions and similes in her essay. It made the readers in
a way experience what she was going through.
In her story, Alcott showed the nurse s sympathy towards John even in the case of his unavoidable
death. She showed the soldiers unselfish mindset and added meaning to her words by using
similarities. She used some key strategies that really brought life to her piece of writing, with the
intention of inflicting an intense feeling that is able to move the readers. She was also

Political Philosophy Is The Issue Of Political Obligation
One of the central issues in political philosophy is the issue of political obligation. This concerns
the presence, the nature and especially the foundation of a particular relationship between
government and its citizens. Philosophical Anarchism challenges this relationship. In this endeavor
it differs from the position of Political Anarchism, which has as its main goal not only the moral
devaluation but also the decline of the state. Conversely, the main method of philosophical
anarchism is the rejection of theories that support the political task without necessarily to adopt the
position that the state is inevitably evil and it must be abolished. The political authority concerns a
grid of exclusive rights on the social life, such as how... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main concern of anarchism is that the political limitations are such that create problems as it
has to do with the individual freedom and fulfillment. On the one hand, we find our lives to be
controlled by political institutions and we take this power for granted. On the other, usually in
our lives we want to decide ourselves about major issues that affect us, to be able to make
choices and act freely, without the others to decide for us. Then why in the case of the state we
consider the control and authority of others over us for granted? The answer is that the states
were created in order to serve their citizens. They are good for our lives, destined to make easier
and fair the coexistence between us. The states form a scheme that is created by man himself to
ameliorate his life. Therefore, they are his choice, a product of the very freedom of man, of his
will to govern himself. But this seems to give birth to a paradox; man decided to govern himself
because he does not want to be governed. Substantially the paradox is not a paradox. It is only
apparently paradoxical. This is because the restrictions are not incompatible with freedom when
they derive from it. The appearance of the paradox reflects the idea that the best way to justify the
authority and the limitations over people is to demonstrate that

Marketing Is A Complex Network Of Processes
The average person may not realize that marketing is a complex network of processes; not just
product advertising (Kerin, Hartley, Rudelius, 2011). One might think of marketing as just the
product advertising side of things in the world of goods and services. A large amount of people
might not understand that marketingis a much more diverse set of steps, not just billboards and
commercials. Marketing is the process that covers product distribution and concepts ranging all
the way from realization of consumer needs to satisfaction of the need with a finished product or
service (Kerin et al, 2011). This process is covered through the four factors of the marketing mix
(Kerin et al, 2011).
Need
A product that I need is laundry detergent. I have two teenage sons, so laundry is a constant in
my household. Therefore, a reliable laundry detergent is a must. Tide detergent that is a constant
in the grocery cart of my family. It is reliable and a consistent performer that satisfies the needs
of our family. Tide satisfies the need of clean clothing in my household. The marketing program
of Tide is set up to sufficiently cover the demand for this product (Kerin, et al, 2011). There is a
set price and there has been adequate promotion of the product. As a consumer, I am aware of the
product, the benefits, and the availability of the product. Tide advertising focuses on a simple

Auto Bailout
Should Obama Bail Out the Auto Industry?
Context and Situations
By November 2008, Chrysler s sales had shrunk 25%. GM posted losses of $18 billion, and Ford
lost $11.5 billion. Despite Ford s elimination of 1/3 of its workforce, GM s elimination of 30,000
jobs, and Chrysler s cutting of 13,000 employees, the Big Three were on the brink of bankruptcy.
All three testified before both houses of congress asking for loans to avoid default. The Big Three
stated their demise would trigger 3 million layoffs within a year, plunging the economy further into
recession.
The purpose of the loans was to provide operating cash for GM and Chrysler, and to keep making
auto loans available for car buyers. Ford Credit planned to use funds from ... Show more content on

The question is: Did the government structure the financing correctly?
The government decided to take an equity stake at GM and thus was facing the possibility that a
substantial amount of these funds would never be repaid. The government has already written
off or realized losses of over $7 billion as of April 2012[2]. More losses will come as the
government sells its remaining stake in GM and Ally Financial. The Congressional Budget Office
estimates that the auto bailout will ultimately cost taxpayers a total of about $20 billion[3]. The
Treasury Department is even more pessimistic, projecting that, at GM s current stock price,
taxpayers will lose $23 billion[4].
Consequences
Consequence for the labor unions: In an opinion editorial published by The Detroit News, Mitt
Romney not only attacks the way the administration handled the bailout of General Motors Co. and
Chrysler Group LLC, but argues that the United Auto Workers(UAW) union benefited from the
bankruptcies in wake of contributing millions to Democrats and Barack Obama s campaign.
This spending greatly benefited the UAW and its members. Without the Administration s
intervention, a smaller bailout would have required incumbent UAW members, not just new
employees, to accept pay and benefit cuts. Average labor costs would have fallen to the same levels
as the foreign transplants, approximately $47 an hour. While this is still substantially higher
compensation than the average

Media Influence On Marijuana
Whether by exit/entrance, in person, internet, or telephone, over time, political polls have been
used by mass media outlets to strategically create interest groups and objectively measure public
opinion. Political scientist, V.O. Key, Jr., described public opinion as those opinions held by private
persons which governmentfinds it prudent to head. The media relies on polls the right amount
because it s only a general sample and doesn t include every potential factor such as question
ambiguity, non response, and non attitudes. In addition, as discussed in lecture, many citizens are
unconnected, uninformed, or inconsistent in their ideologies. Given these potential errors, the

In discussion, we attributed its popularity to medicinal marijuana, cultural influences (music and
television), and educational progression on its effects. I am confident in the data presented because
of its demographical breakdown. Men were more likely to support marijuana legalization over
women; democrats were more supportive than republicans, and younger people and medicinal
marijuana users were highly in support of legalization. CBS News uses this poll in order to explain
how progressive Americans have felt toward marijuana over the years. As mentioned in the
introduction, many Americans were uninformed on the effects of marijuana from the 1970s up to
the 2000s. In addition to that notion, since 1997, the percentage of Americans who had not tried
marijuana decreased from 65% to 56%, meaning many Americans based their opinion off
environmental influences. I feel this article provided ample evidence that conveys to its audience
that the perception on marijuana has completely

Drug Legalization Essay
If drugs would to be legalized, there will have to be new set of laws to be follow. The major
problem with our society as in now, is the spending in drug wars. According to Gary E. Johnson
in The Case for Drug Legalization states how ...We are spending $150 billion a year to combat
drugs. This also includes spending in such as courts, jails , and police. But we should also
consider, if drugs were to be legalized, It ll be easier for the government to control and they will
be able to tax the usage of drugs. Especially, the legalization of drugs will help spend money on
other things such as education, public schools, emergency services and will save a lot of finance
instead of spending on tracking down druglords. Nowadays drugs are being sold nationwide
through black marketing and a lot of people could get hands on , which cause competition
between others drug lords, cartels and violence is erupted. I believe if drugs were to be legalized ,
it would tremendously drop crime, murder, addiction to certain drugs, and the government would
regulate and tax drugs.
Second of all, the black market has been going for a while and it s used to sell illegal goods as a
underground economy, and many people buy drugs that aren t legal. This market gets by not
being taxed all and many people can get hands on drugs that can really be deleterious to
themselves and other people around them. If we would to legalize drugs , the black market
would drop business and the government would be able to track down who buys the drugs by
having only stores that sell least harmful drugs such as marijuana. For most, not all drugs should
be legalized because of the dangerous usage of drugs to the body especially if it s a first time
taking in drugs. According to the article Addiction Center.com explains that Over 90% of those
with an addiction began drinking, smoking or using illicit drugs before the age of 18. Even though
with laws that enforce illegal drug usage, many people take advantage of it because it s not easily
to be find so they become addicted to small drugs and eventually build up to using stronger drugs
such as Psychedelic Mushrooms,Opium,Lsd,Methamphetamine, and etc. If the black market

American Imperialism Benefits
A simple policy that any country can follow that can transform it from nothing; to the world s most
powerfulest nation, yet should it be done? Imperialism is a policy in which a country or nation
follows imperialistic views in which they spread their influence through diplomacy or military force
throughout an area, yet continue on pushing their influence when self sufficient. Yet Imperialism
was a policy that many nations did not follow as they were sufficient already, yet the few that had
continued exceeded and became worldly powers. Should a country, such as America, follow in such
footsteps or is it already following the policy right now?

All throughout history the strongest countries would be following the policy and wouldn t stop
till they collapse, yet America hasn t collapsed since it started Imperialism, and still follows the
policy til this day. It s in a much more subtle way yet still being done by spreading influence
across different countries in different continents. In the middle east currently; America has a tight
grasp on what happens in the area, which gives means America has a big influence over the area.
The question also comes up Why is it still being done? With Imperialism the economy was seen
booming, Imperialism was huge boost that can help any country, big or small, there was no reason
to stop in believing in Imperialistic views, nor is there a reason to discontinue the practice right now.
At Americas peak, the imperialistic methods had done wonders to the country, increasing life in the
country and advancing the country. From the outcomes that were gained, many countries should be

to cross the river by feeling the stones. Where is the solution? What is the best method? The fact is
that at the professional workplace, both methods are implemented based on clients needs and client

Agile Brief Introduction Waterfall method is one of the traditional software developing method that

an initial paln; after client approves the plan, developers follow through the plan; at the end,
developers test and finish the task. Upon clients additional requests or tests, developers add up the
extra features, but in most of the case, it would be too late or too hard to change. The entire process
is not very communicative or translucent since clients and developers generally meet just once or
twice throughout the project. In the article Why Making Software is so Difficult the author

Persuasive Essay On Amazon Grocery Business
One of the most annoying things in the world is going shopping. It s not like getting new stuff
is a complete nightmare, it s just the part where you have to interact with people, deal with lines,
look at prices, figure out how much money you have, and so on. That stuff really gets me. What
s even worse that shopping is grocery shopping. If you go to a grocery store on a weekend, you
might as well take a Xanax before you walk in the door. Nothing makes me want to scream like a
old people standing in the way of an entire aisle and then looking at you like you re doing
something wrong.
Thankfully, the go to place for pretty much everything besides groceries is getting into the grocery
business. According to The Wall Street Journal, Amazon will soon start rolling out its own private
label brands for non perishable items like baby food, tea, coffee, spices, and non perishables like
laundry detergent. So, it s not like you are going to order milk and bacon from Amazon. Although,
that would be amazing.

Amazon already sells private label goods under its Amazon Basics line, but it has never offered
non perishable items under it before. This looks like it could be an up hill battle for its private
label when you look at the history. In 2014, Amazon had to recall its Element brand diapers
because of a design flaw. Selling food online and enduring a recall could be a huge hit to the entire
idea.
If the idea to sell groceries turns out to be a success, I think I will only have to go to the store on
my corner to get perishable goods, then leave the rest of it to

A Raisin In The Sun Power Quotes
In A Raisin in the Sun, by Loraine Hansberry, each character views the world in extremely varying

Theme Of North And South
Elizabeth Gaskell s novel North and South, as described by Rosemarie Bodenheimer, is a novel
about irrevocable change, and about the confused process of response and accommodation that
attends it (282). One can certainly argue that the character of Mr. Thornton must be among the most
intriguing ones that go through such change. Over the course of the novel, he grows from a proud,
impatient businessman to become, well, just as proud, but somehow more of a patient man. His
humanity seems to be revealed through his association with and admiration for Miss Margaret Hale.

Family Dynamics In The Metamorphosis
The Perils of Family Dynamics as it relates to The Metamorphosis
Pam (Lawson) Beaver
Belhaven University
Family Dynamics The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka represents the selfish views of family.
Kafka transforms Gregory, the son, into a dung beetle to show how members of the family evolve
and adjust due to life changing events. Traditionally, when families overcome hardships, a
stronger bond is formed between the members of the familial unit. In this story, Kafka takes the
family on a journey of life, one day wonderful and the next full of strife. Kafka s view as portrayed
in The Metamorphosis is that family, when faced with difficult change, sometimes transforms
from a harmonious unit into its selfish individual components. The first narcissistic is the
parents and the expectation of Gregory to provide. The first indication of self centeredness is
the parents expectation that their son should provide for the household. When his mother
arrives at his bedroom door to remind him he has to go to work, Gregory tried to get out of bed,
realizing something has happened to him. Others in the home become alarmed that he is not
rising as expected, so first his father comes to check on him, then his sister, who whispers
Gregory, open the door, please (Kafka, 2006, p.1968). Kafka reveals the family dynamics
throughout the story and how each individual fits into the entity. Gregory s sister, in the
beginning, is concerned for his well being. However, she relies on him for her everyday needs,
so her self indulgent motives become clear. The mother, on the other hand, is bossy and distant.
The father is overbearing, depressed, and dependent on his son financially. The main concern of
the familial body is getting Gregory out the door and to work so that he can make a paycheck
and the individuals can continue in the roles each has absorbed. The second selfish observance is
the way the family reacts when Gregory becomes a burden, creating more work for them around
the house. Even the hired maid asks on bended knee to be discharged immediately (Kafka, 2006, p.
1979). Kafka is quick to change the dynamics of the household designating chores and cooking to
the mother and daughter, and assigning the

The Effects Of Whitewashing In Hollywood
Given that the media is such a major part of how we see the world, it is important to dig deeper
into the message it often portrays. In this day, televisions and cellphones are staple devices in
every household, making it a simple and speedy platform to influence individuals of all
demographics. Hollywood in particular has all the potential to provide positive and true
portrayals of Asian culture through their work but they continue to do the exact opposite in
order to please American viewership which leads to the whitewashing of the material. Race is
sadly a factor that goes into choosing the right person for a role and this is where whitewashing
comes into play as white actors are casted in roles that were originally meant for non white
actors. This can be seen in Hollywood as early as the 1920 s up to modern day America. This can
have negative effects on our society and the way we view each other due to misrepresentation and
blatant disrespect towards cultures, however it can also bring awareness and spark change due to
the backlash it receives at the same time.
. The practice of whitewashing is extremely prevalent and has become somewhat of a tradition
among Hollywood s many works. Hollywood has a long history of whitewashing that dates back as
early as 1919 in D.W. Griffith s filmBroken Blossoms in which a white actor played the role of a
Chinese immigrant. Back then, whitewashing was overt and the roles were highly caricatured,
especially in the series of Charlie

After Ledbetter was awarded for the discriminated, Goodyear came back to the court. The
company appealed the decision that was decided by the court. Goodyear argued that due to Title IV
provision that requires discrimination complaints to be made within 180 days of the employer s

Analysis Of The Book Gulliver s Travels Essay
In his book, Gulliver s Travels, it is hard to miss the various references that its author, Johnathan
Swift, makes concerning bodily functions. Yet, this is more than the bawdy, juvenile toilet humor
one would encounter in a cheeky T.V. show for it has a literary purpose. Scatology is used to
define the literary trope of the grotesque body. Through the realist perspective, Swift employs
scatology to both shock and attract. He uses it to draw attention to Gulliver s humanity, and
normalize the strangeness of the lands Gulliver visits. By successfully employing elements of the
scatological to enhance his novel, Swift manages to create a novel that has both realist aesthetic
and the fantastical grotesque. As a result of the grotesque simply being an exaggeration of reality,
Swift by exaggerating the role of bodily functions highlights makes a private subject public and
creates a common thread with his audience. Realism in the context of literature, is defined by the
Carson Newman College as any artistic or literary portrayal of life in a faithful, accurate manner,
unclouded by false ideals, literary conventions, or misplaced aesthetic glorification and
beautification of the world. It is a theory or tendency in writing to depict events in human life in a
matter of fact, straightforward manner. It is an attempt to reflect life as it actually is. The
scatological elements that Swift employs are also present across other artistic forms such as poetry
and paintings, and they

African Trypanosomiasis, commonly known as African Sleeping sickness; is an infectious disease

Early African trypanosomiasis is linked heavily to the slave trade, as first accounts of the disease

Paradox Of Thomas Gray
Literature past and present is often a reflection of desire and intimacy, one s most inner thoughts
feelings. A writers thoughts spilling onto the page, a cleanse of sorts. While other times it may be a
commentary on society or a satire to highlight the numerous ills within a community of culture and
so in many ways nothing has to remain unwritten, nothing can remain untouched by an authors
hand, and yet even with seemingly all reaching grasp an author has when producing literature, there
are however things that simply cannot be said the every looming unsayable that dictates that which
must be left untouched, a paradox. But the question is not only what the unsayable is in context of
time place, gender, and cultural influence, but what the accumulative role of the unsayable is
within literature; this then leads to a discussion as to its role as a literary device.
Thinking in paradoxes, poetry is both one of the most constrained, yet free forms of literature and
a poet who particularly demonstrates the both as one and thus exploring the role of the unsayable
is Thomas Gray. Gray s poetic style is often very much conforming to certain styles, especially in
his sonnet [on the death of Richard West] , whereby he adheres to the common 14 lines that the
sonnet form requires, while simultaneously having a rather scattered rhyme scheme of a,b,c,d.
A,b,a,b. E,f,g,h, with the final couplet being g,h. The fact that the two are on opposing scales

A Pension Policy For The Province Of Ontario
A pension policy for the province of Ontario is being discussed, in an attempt to make it more
effective or being readily available. The existing issue is how it functions in low interests rates
and low returns in equity markets. Also, the low participation in such plans is failing the system
as a whole. It is important the government to protect workers in the private sector; as it is noted
one third of the paid workforce in 2005 was in a registered pension plan. Canada lacks when it
comes to voluntary employer sponsored pension plans and tax assisted programs, like the TFSA,
who must improve their services. The current pension plan fails to accommodate for private sector
workers that are provided with no other occupation related pension program other than the CPP.
Many of the solvency funding rules are still adopted from the Ontario Pension Benefits Act in
1966. The voluntary participation system has failed in Canada. The government must change into a
compulsory contribution system for it to achieve the sufficient accumulation of assets. It is of
concern that nearly two thirds of private sector DB pensions plans operated either closed or frozen
plans . All pension plans should be based on individual circumstances, but currently the system
lacks in regulating. The other main issue is low household saving rates that are misbalancing
pension funds reserves. Many politicians are focusing on the type of pension scheme to use,
instead of finding a way to increase the level

Disease Classification Structures
Disease Classification Structures
Health care information systems cover a wide range of issues dealing with the supervision and use
of biomedical information. Health information systems are central support tools in the
administration of health care services. An acceptable health information system is important not
only for evaluating the health needs of populations but also for preparation and for application of
health interventions. It is equally imperative in the assessment of programs. The goal of
information systems is to create an appropriate working environment. This is done by providing
initial and going training, allocating resources, and by managing unintended consequences (Wager,
Lee Glaser, 2009).

Death certificates are also pulled to determine the cause of death and monitor diseases that could
change and affect more populations. The data is pulled to analyze epidemiology and provide control
of diseases across the world.
Any negative aspects of your selection
Every system in healthcare has its positive and negative traits. Though there are few disadvantages
to the classification of diseases, understanding them is of importance. New diseases are being
found yearly to even monthly, and every several years the classification of diseases needs to be
updated, which can cause changes to the past and current classification. Once the system has been
changed, and it is important that there is proper communication of the change so this classification
of system remains understandable and useful. Categories for past census may be different from
past categories, so these changes will also make it hard to compare past and current census.
Conclusion
Disease classification information structures are very important for the health care community. The
ICD is used to monitor health care disease and categorize the disease in a format that is universal
to all health care organizations. The ICD has provided a system to assist in the reimbursement
process for health care organizations. The ICD is also important to monitor diseases and prevent the
spread of infection. The ICD information structure has provided a standard that

Examples Of Operant Conditioning
The section of this Chapter that I found to be interesting was Operant Conditioning. It was
interesting how we can train and produce a behavior that is more probable to recur with positive
and negative reinforcements. When we are presented with a positive reinforcer, we strengthen the
probability that a response will recur (pg 114). For example, when we are training a dogto do tricks,
we reward the dog with a treat every time the trick is performed correctly. With negative
reinforcers we use unpleasant stimuli that strengthens a behavior by their removal (pg 115).
When teach a dog to heel, we may use a harness around the dogs body. When the dog is pulling
away, the harness creates an uncomfortable pressure. When the dog is walking in the right spot
that pressure is then remove. With negative reinforcement we hope that the dog will get to a point
that it avoids the pressure and and heels by our side. This type of training is referred as escape...

If we yell at a dog for not dropping his toy immediately, when he finally does, he may be confused
of what the punishment is for. If receiving too much positive punishment the dog could become
fearful of its trainer as oppose to learning his actions are wrong. Our own attitudes and behavior
could also affect how we use positive punishment. When we come home and see a mess on the
carpet, our anger may cause us to use more positive punishment than needed. In a video by the
Dunlap Training Solutions, they state that the use of positive reinforcement and negative
punishment are the best ways in training a dog. Their explanation of using Operant conditioning in
dog training can be seen here https://youtu.be/l4Il0hN0FYM?t=21s .

Change Models

Without a proper diagnosis, change is very likely to fail (Pellettiere, 2006). Alderfer (1980) states
organizational diagnosis proceeds in there orderly phases: entry, data collection, and feedback (p.
460). The entry phase consists of identifying who will participate in the assessment and if an
agreement can be reached (Alderfer, 1980). The data collection phase consists of collecting the
information and then analysis of the information (Alderfer, 1980). The feedback phase consists of
sharing the results with the organization along with suggestions for the organization (Alderfer,
1980; Preziosi, 2012). The feedback should consist of strengths and weaknesses within the
organization (Alderfer, 1980). Salem (2002) states there are three type of assessments: structural
assessments, functional assessments, and process assessments. Structural assessments are a
snapshot of a specific point in time, functional assessments relates antecedents with actions and
outcomes, and process assessments consists of collecting data over an extended period of time
(Alderfer, 1980).
SWOT Analysis SWOT Anlysis is an acronym which stands for strength, weakness, opportunities,
and threats (Balamuralikrishna amp; Dugger, 1995; Boonstra, 2003; Hughes, 2007; Mind Tools,
2012; RapidBI, 2010; Renault, 2012). According to Balamuralikrishna amp; Dugger (1995), a

Whale Rider Themes
There is also a clear theme across New Zealand films relating to family related issues, including
acceptance from relatives and what some young people do to gain it. The 2002 film directed by
Niki Caro, Whale Rider, is centered around Paikea, a young girl who was rejected by her
grandfather as the leader of their community due to her gender. She seeks his approval, though he is
reluctant to help her due to the culture s traditions. Such approval seeking is prevalent amongst
New Zealandfilm, notably in the 2010 film by Taika Waititi, Boy. The main character, named Boy,
is reunited with his father, Alamein, whom he idolises and tells stories about to kids at his school.

Superfreakonomics a Personal Review
About The Book. One of the most powerful laws in the universe is the law of unintended
consequences (Levitt, S. 2009) This is one of the primarily premises that the book establishes, with
an extraordinary sense of humor and interesting data, Steven and Stephen set us in the real
economics world, in which the common factors that all the teachers show to their students are
applied in such a way that the real job is getting done. The way the authors write all the interesting
facts of todayВґs modern life, including correct and simple explanations, so that anyone can

the several factors that can change within a second, this fact is not considered in the book, that

Factors Influencing The Adoption Behavior Of Coffee Producers
Selected explanatory variables
A micro level approach was used in order to test which factors influence the adoption behavior of
coffee producers with regard to SMPs. The model incorporates farm and management
characteristics, the socioeconomic profile of producers and social capital indicators. Table 1
presents the descriptive statistics of the data collected.
Several factors that were considered are accepted as common predictors of adoption in developing
countries. However, three questions related to explanatory variables were not included in the final
questionnaire. Firstly, we did not take into account access to bank loans since coffee farmers in
Mexico are mostly unable to obtain investment credit from lending institutions. Producers usually
have the option of obtaining short term financing (cash advances) either from local traders or
from coffee cooperatives for those who are members. However, the availability of long term credit
has virtually disappeared making it difficult for producers to defer the costs of implementing new
practices over several years (AMECAFE, 2009).
Secondly, tenure arrangements were not considered since households in the sampled area are
governed by a communal land resources committee, an institution independent of the municipality.
Under this system, producers hold usufruct rights to their coffee parcels. While a 1991 amendment
to the Mexican constitution made the privatization of communal lands (ejidos) possible it remains
the dominant type

The Drug Of Drug And Alcohol Abuse Essay
The movie Trainspotting is an entertaining look into the dark world of drug and alcohol abuse.
Heroin is the drug of choice for the protagonist, but other substances are also consumed throughout
the film: heroin, prescription medication, opium, hash, amphetamines, and alcohol are a constant
presence in the story. Repeated polysubstance abuse combined with a negative social environment
and a weak support structure compounds the problems of Renton, a heroinaddicted young adult man
living in Scotland. When examining the actual diagnostic criteria, causes, and treatment of drug
addictionfrom the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, comparisons can be made between the
portrayal of addictionin the film and reality. Familial and genetic influences, social and
environmental issues, positive and negative reinforcement, the opponent process theory, models of
chemical dependence and treatment methods are displayed throughout the film with high validity.
Many different influences affect the main character, and an integrative approach is needed to assess
the maladaptive behavior of Renton.
Gratuitous use and abuse of heroin is the central theme of the film Trainspotting. Heroin is in the
opioid family of narcotics. Opioid can be used in a broad sense for natural opiates like opium,
synthetic opiates such as heroin and methadone, and the natural chemicals that occur in the brain
such as enkephalins, beta endorphins, and dynorphins (Barlow Durand, 2015, p.11 4). Opioid
substances create

Nissan Xd Crew Truck Essay
A diesel driven Titan XD Crew Cab 4x4 in SL garb lands on the Auto Trends driveway.
Oftentimes, it is the second opportunity with a vehicle that paints a clearer picture of its
capabilities. Following my introduction to the all new Nissan Titan XD seven months earlier, I
welcomed a 2016 Nissan Titan XD Crew Cab 4x4 in SL trim to my home. Not only did I have
more time to put it through the paces, but I also was able to essentially completely dissect this
vehicle.
My verdict? Nissan has a formidable competitor in the Titan XD, one the manufacturer says fills the
white space between light and heavy duty trucks. In particular, instead of going up against the likes
of the Ford Super Duty and similar models from Chevrolet, Ram, and GMC, Nissan built the Titan
XD to give it enhanced towing capacity without the attendant huge price tag.
More Power, Manageable Price
The result is a powerful Crew Cab only pickup truck priced from $35,290 in base S trim, a 4x2
model with a 5.6 liter, gasoline engine. But the big news here is the availability of a turbo diesel
engine provided by Cummins, a supplier who is no stranger to the auto industry.
Cummins engines power heavy duty Ram 3500 pickups, but the engine supplied to Nissan is not ...

easier to see out the side windows. Running boards are standard on the SL edition and are a much

It doesn t help that departments and agencies turn over more frequently, causing unnecessary starts
and stops in the progress of specific areas. As well, the public sector holds flexibility in decision
making, and the way to use the public s money efficiently (Mares, 2013). Although the SIR program
is important to the safety of the public, it does not seem important enough to use taxpayers money
in order to fund it.
Yes, many people have to take this program in order to be qualified for a job, event or special
occasion, but what about the people that are not in one of these situations? Why do they need to
pay out of their pocket so that the public sector can continue to administer? We as a province,
should make a change, and hand the SIR program and it s duties over to the private sector.
Public Sector Employees versus Private Sector Employees A recent study by Fraser Institute,
reveals some critical issues in relation to the benefits that a public sector employee gets over that
of a private sector employee. The BC public sector earns more than the private sector, which would
be expected. However, how much more they make, is where the issue arises.

than unionized private workers. Not only do these workers receive better wages, but also get better

The Discovery Of Mount Everest
Over nine thousand people died and thousands were displaced when an earthquake with a
magnitude of 8.1 hit Nepal in April 2015. Consequently, this earthquake triggered the deadliest
event in the history of Mount Everest when an avalanche killed 19 people two weeks later (1).
This tragedy was caused by two pieces of the planet s crust that have been colliding for millions of
years now. Moreover, this collision is based on the scientific theory of plate tectonicsthat cases the
large scale motion of the planet s lithosphere. The same theory also explains how Mount Everest, a
part of the Himalayas, was affected. Nepal s seismic nature and the Himalayas are connected
through the collision of the Indian Plate and the Eurasian plate. First and foremost, plate tectonic
theory deals with the idea that lithospheric plates or tectonic plates move around the crust. Tectonic
plates are slabs of the Earths lithosphere which is a combination of the crust and uppermost mantle.
The lithosphere is characterized by its rigid and cooler nature. On the other hand, the asthenosphere
is hotter and more viscous and lies beneath the lithosphere. Together, the lithosphere and the
asthenosphere makes up the outer layers of the Earth. These two layers are really important because
the rigid pieces of the lithosphere ride on the viscosity of the asthenosphere (2). As previously
mentioned, the Nepal earthquake was caused collision of these plates and it has numerous
underlying factors that started

Leadership Style Of Leadership Styles
Leadership styles vary amongst every person in a leadership role. Styles may be categorized as
authoritarian, procedural, transformational, participative and laissez fair. Following an
assessment of my own leadership style (How to find your style of leadership, 2016) it appears
that my style of leadership is characterized as laissez faire. I m a leader who is not formally
recognized but rather involves the entire team and makes informed decisions based on group
ideas, discussions and team decisions. The amount of control I typically have is low and I
expect my team to contribute ideas and decisions but ultimately, I am responsible for the final
decisions and the success or failure. Assessment Results I was absolutely not surprised by the
results of my assessment. By nature, I am more of a follower than a leader. This assessment
proved my theory to be correct. I am hesitant in making uniformed and risky decisions
professionally as well as personally. I have always relied heavily on a team of people I can trust
and to help me make informed choices. Perhaps I lack self confidence in my decision making
skills, so I lean on others for guidance and support. The personal feeling of disappointing someone
is overwhelming me to the point where I am afraid to make any decisions without help from
another source. I understand I am human and humans make mistakes. The point of mistakes is to
learn from them. However, it is still hard to deal with disappointing someone on an

  • 2. Essay On Racial Profiling It is frequently said that the way you approach someone is the way that they get their first impression of you. So if you come off negatively at first, that lessens the chances of a person liking you. This can also relate to the way someone perceives what type of person you are, dependending upon looks, clothes, and of course race. The act of racial profiling has become more serious than ever; although this problem has been around for centuries, racial profiling has recently gained attention in the news. You may think that the cases broadcasted on the news are the only major cases of racial profiling and that it doesn t happen very often, but in reality it happens quite a bit. When I was in kindergarten I attended a private school, now ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I never knew that there was a big social differentiation between who hung out with who dependent upon race. To be very blunt, the ratio of black to white people in my school was about 4:1. I was a very quiet girl especially during my sixth grade year. In seventh grade I began to open up more, but this caused frequent altercations. As people began to know my name I recruited names such as preppy and white girl . I found the phrase white girl to be ironic considering the fact that I am fully Hispanic. When I corrected anyone who believed I was white, I would often get I didn t know you were mexican, you look like you re white! . These accusations and the shocked looks on the faces of those who knew the truth never disappeared. Being a Senior in High School and knowing most of my fellow classmates, I still frequently get the same comments or faces of those who have never thought twice about my race because I look white or I act white . Through the years of receiving comments like this, I ve come to the realization that these judgements of people based upon their appearance happen all of the time. I will admit to doing this myself and giving the same comments as I have gotten. These racial judgements don t just come with African American or Caucasian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Industrial Relations or Labour Relations is an expression used not only for relationships between employers and Trade Unions, but also for those involving Government with the aim of defining policies, facing labour problems. The concept of industrial relations has a very wide meaning and connotation. In the narrow sense, it means that the employer, employee relationship confines itself to the relationship that emerges out of the day to day association of the management and the labour. In its wider sense, industrial relations include the relationship between an employee and an employer in the course of the running of an industry and may project it to spheres, which may transgress to the areas of quality control, marketing, price fixation... A Trade Union is any combination, whether temporary or permanent, formed primarily for the purpose of regulating the relations between workmen and employers, or between workmen and workmen, or between employers and employers, or for imposing restrictive conditions on the conduct of any trade or business, and includes any federation of two or more trade union .Ellem, (2004).The role of trade unions and their representatives The existence of a strong and recognized trade union is a pre requisite to industrial peace. Decisions taken through the process of collective bargaining and negotiations between employer and unions are more influential. Trade unions play an important role and are helpful in effective communication between the workers and the management. They provide the advice and support to ensure that the differences of opinion do not turn into major conflicts. The central function of a trade union is to represent people at work. But they also have a wider role in protecting their interests. They also play an important educational role, organizing courses for their members on a wide range of matters. Seeking a healthy and safe working environment is also prominent feature of trade union. Although trade unions look after the interests of their members, they also recognize the advantages of working in partnership with employers. This is because a successful, profitable business is good for workers and therefore good for the union and its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We both started the fundraiser for Sophia however; the funds were released to Logan, Brigham s brother. As you know, you have been receiving numerous messages from Brigham Huff. We have also been the recipient of many harassing and obscene messages. We have responded appropriately to those messages and we would like to share with you our story. • 7. My Friend Uploaded A Post On Facebook And It Got Me... Recently my friend uploaded a post on Facebook and it got me contemplating. The question was posed by a man named Alan Watts and he asked, What would you like to do if money were no object? This inquiry seems to be wandering the internet a bit because this was roughly the third time that I have regarded it, so I took it as a sign and I paused to direct this question to myself. Of course, there is a multitude of things that I yearn to do. If money wasn t the issue like many of us make it out to be, of course, there would be ample to do. I discern that this question is posed more for what type of work would you do but I was thinking about stuff that I would love to do regardless. The most predominate desire for me is to travel. I love to write and that will always be a constant thing, but I think it would be great to do both. I recognize that many people would have a similar response, yet my strong desire to travel made me consider deeply as to why I had such a tenacious want for it. I believe one of the reasons why that deep down, we still hold on to the ancient survival instinct of migration, which can never really be satisfied. I believe that this could also hold true for me. As I think more about it, I find that it was not really the destinations that I want to go to but the means of the journey that I wish to experience. My husband is the one who made me conscious of this. He likes to travel and see places as well, but just didn t understand the concept of people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Essay on Evaluate Different Techniques for Sampling Evidence 3.1Evaluate different techniques for sampling evidence of assessment, including use of technology There are a wide variety of techniques used for sampling the evidence of assessment which are all valuable for different reasons. Below are listed these different techniques a) Direct observation is the best way to evaluate the assessor s ability to carry out a fair and valid assessment. The observation should ideally take place in the work environment and involve the learner carrying out specific tasks as required for inclusion in the learner s portfolio of evidence. The IQA can quickly establish the effect of the assessment on the learner and can get a good impression of the rapport that the assessor has with the learner and the ... This can be problematic within the actual workplace e) Questioning is another method of sampling evidence and will involve the questioning of both the assessor and the candidate. To ensure that the evidence has the necessary validity the questions to the learner should happen in private away from the assessor. The need for the learner to feel that they have the confidence to disclose the true picture of the assessment process is very important. The question sessions can be recorded on the necessary portfolio documentation but can add validity if they are recorded on tape or digitally and used as evidence. f) Underpinning knowledge questions can be sampled effectively as the Awarding Organisation will provide the answers which can be checked and a total can be calculated and compared with what the assessor has marked g) E portfolios are a useful tool for assessments and can be sampled remotely along with virtual assessment tools such as Skype etc. These can pose problems with validity as the assessor will need to agree the conditions before assessment to ensure that the tasks have been completed by the candidate and that there is no plagiarism which may interfere with the assessment process h) The candidates will generally be allocated an expert witness whilst working on site. • 9. Mexico Poverty According to a 2015 study by The Organization for Economic Corporation and Development, Mexico has one of the highest rates of income inequality in the world which inevitably leads to a sharp contrast among living conditions, agency, and power between the rich and the poor. Mexican society has been stratified since the Mexican revolution. The goals of the Mexican revolution were to disperse wealth but the policies enacted made it difficult to make a living in a rural setting thus serving as a catalyst for a mass emigration to cities where people were could only find shelter in the slums (https://history.libraries.wsu.edu/spring2016/2016/01/20/the poverty and social stratification in mexico/). After watching the documentary about the One Child Policy in China, a common theme appears to be that the poorest and most marginalized seem to be those living in rural societies. This is most likely because generally speaking, the poor are the least educated simply because they cannot afford it thus resulting in having to hold laborious jobs such as those in agriculture. The distribution of wealth in Mexico is perhaps the leading cause for the social inequality so prominent in the country. For the past 25 years the gap between the rich and poor has been steadily increasing. According to the WEA the top 1% of Mexico s distribution has an average annual income 47 times that of the poorest 1% (https://www.worldeconomicsassociation.org /newsletterarticles/inequality in mexico/). • 10. The Motif Of Entrapment By Edith Wharton Executive Order 9066, passed by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1942, forced all Japanese Americans to pack up their lives and move to internment camps, a place where they would live in shabby barracks and get treated unfairly by guards. This order confineded the American citizens in heinous camps for up to three years. Because of their heritage, which could be as little as one sixteenth Japanese, the citizens were obligated to move; they became trapped in these camps where unhappiness was present in every aspect of life. Similarly, in the novel Ethan Frome, the title character is trapped in his unhappy life due to marriage, family, property, and financial liabilities. The author, Edith Wharton uses the motif of entrapment to prove how obligations lead to unhappiness throughout the novel. Ethan Frome and his wife, Zenobia (Zeena), never really know what true love feels like because they are both very lonely people. They meet when Zeena is caring for Ethan s mother; due to their loneliness, they mistake the bizarre feeling of companionship for love. Ethan marries Zeena, not because he is in love, but because he does not want to be alone and he feels like he owes it to her for everything she is doing for him. She is aware of this and claims, ...you grudged me the money to get back my health, when I lost it nursing your own mother! And my folks all told me at the time you couldn t do no less than marry me after (Wharton 83). In addition to Zeena saying that Ethan ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It also introduced symbols for plus and minus for the first time in a printed book. Pacioli also studied the Golden Ratio in his 1509 book titled The Divine Proportion , as he closes by saying that the number was a message from God and a source of secret knowledge about the inner beauty of things. During the late 16th Century, the equals, multiplication, division, root, decimal and inequality symbols were introduced and standardized. The use of decimal fractions and decimal arithmetic is usually attributed to the Flemish mathematician Simon Stevin the late 16th Century, although the decimal point notation was not popularized until early in the 17th Century. Analysis Of The Poem Death Of A Soldier Faaiza Ajmal Webster Watnik English 100 ONLINE 1 December 2014 Analysis: Death of a Solider Louisa May Alcott served as a volunteered nurse during the American Civil War, which took place in the 1860 s. It was a brutal war between the United States and the Confederate states. Alcott documented the last days of a brave solider named John. The almost thirty year old seldom spoke, uttered no complaint, asked no sympathy, but tranquilly observed what went on about him. With the use of several changing literary parts in the essay, Death of a Soldier, written by Louisa May Alcott, the writer s remembrance of such a terrible disaster is a lot simpler to imagine and feel than if she had recited her tale dully and emotionless. The meaning of Louisa May Alcott s, Death of a Soldier is obvious in its reason to accentuate the different responses of a person in relation to death, in addition to describing the more pleasing results of such a sad incident. She expressed her story by the use of vivid descriptions and similes in her essay. It made the readers in a way experience what she was going through. In her story, Alcott showed the nurse s sympathy towards John even in the case of his unavoidable death. She showed the soldiers unselfish mindset and added meaning to her words by using similarities. She used some key strategies that really brought life to her piece of writing, with the intention of inflicting an intense feeling that is able to move the readers. She was also ... • 15. Political Philosophy Is The Issue Of Political Obligation One of the central issues in political philosophy is the issue of political obligation. This concerns the presence, the nature and especially the foundation of a particular relationship between government and its citizens. Philosophical Anarchism challenges this relationship. In this endeavor it differs from the position of Political Anarchism, which has as its main goal not only the moral devaluation but also the decline of the state. Conversely, the main method of philosophical anarchism is the rejection of theories that support the political task without necessarily to adopt the position that the state is inevitably evil and it must be abolished. The political authority concerns a grid of exclusive rights on the social life, such as how... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main concern of anarchism is that the political limitations are such that create problems as it has to do with the individual freedom and fulfillment. On the one hand, we find our lives to be controlled by political institutions and we take this power for granted. On the other, usually in our lives we want to decide ourselves about major issues that affect us, to be able to make choices and act freely, without the others to decide for us. Then why in the case of the state we consider the control and authority of others over us for granted? The answer is that the states were created in order to serve their citizens. They are good for our lives, destined to make easier and fair the coexistence between us. The states form a scheme that is created by man himself to ameliorate his life. Therefore, they are his choice, a product of the very freedom of man, of his will to govern himself. But this seems to give birth to a paradox; man decided to govern himself because he does not want to be governed. Substantially the paradox is not a paradox. It is only apparently paradoxical. This is because the restrictions are not incompatible with freedom when they derive from it. The appearance of the paradox reflects the idea that the best way to justify the authority and the limitations over people is to demonstrate that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A large amount of people might not understand that marketingis a much more diverse set of steps, not just billboards and commercials. Marketing is the process that covers product distribution and concepts ranging all the way from realization of consumer needs to satisfaction of the need with a finished product or service (Kerin et al, 2011). The government decided to take an equity stake at GM and thus was facing the possibility that a substantial amount of these funds would never be repaid. The Treasury Department is even more pessimistic, projecting that, at GM s current stock price, taxpayers will lose $23 billion[4]. This spending greatly benefited the UAW and its members. Without the Administration s intervention, a smaller bailout would have required incumbent UAW members, not just new employees, to accept pay and benefit cuts. According to Gary E. Johnson in The Case for Drug Legalization states how ...We are spending $150 billion a year to combat drugs. This also includes spending in such as courts, jails , and police. But we should also consider, if drugs were to be legalized, It ll be easier for the government to control and they will be able to tax the usage of drugs. Especially, the legalization of drugs will help spend money on other things such as education, public schools, emergency services and will save a lot of finance instead of spending on tracking down druglords. Nowadays drugs are being sold nationwide through black marketing and a lot of people could get hands on , which cause competition between others drug lords, cartels and violence is erupted. I believe if drugs were to be legalized , it would tremendously drop crime, murder, addiction to certain drugs, and the government would regulate and tax drugs. Second of all, the black market has been going for a while and it s used to sell illegal goods as a underground economy, and many people buy drugs that aren t legal. This market gets by not being taxed all and many people can get hands on drugs that can really be deleterious to themselves and other people around them. If we would to legalize drugs , the black market would drop business and the government would be able to track down who buys the drugs by having only stores that sell least harmful drugs such as marijuana. For most, not all drugs should be legalized because of the dangerous usage of drugs to the body especially if it s a first time taking in drugs. • 27. Family Dynamics In The Metamorphosis The Perils of Family Dynamics as it relates to The Metamorphosis Pam (Lawson) Beaver Belhaven University Family Dynamics The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka represents the selfish views of family. Kafka transforms Gregory, the son, into a dung beetle to show how members of the family evolve and adjust due to life changing events. Traditionally, when families overcome hardships, a stronger bond is formed between the members of the familial unit. In this story, Kafka takes the family on a journey of life, one day wonderful and the next full of strife. Kafka s view as portrayed in The Metamorphosis is that family, when faced with difficult change, sometimes transforms from a harmonious unit into its selfish individual components. The first narcissistic is the parents and the expectation of Gregory to provide. The first indication of self centeredness is the parents expectation that their son should provide for the household. When his mother arrives at his bedroom door to remind him he has to go to work, Gregory tried to get out of bed, realizing something has happened to him. Others in the home become alarmed that he is not rising as expected, so first his father comes to check on him, then his sister, who whispers Gregory, open the door, please (Kafka, 2006, p.1968). Kafka reveals the family dynamics throughout the story and how each individual fits into the entity. Gregory s sister, in the beginning, is concerned for his well being. However, she relies on him for her everyday needs, so her self indulgent motives become clear. The mother, on the other hand, is bossy and distant. The father is overbearing, depressed, and dependent on his son financially. The main concern of the familial body is getting Gregory out the door and to work so that he can make a paycheck and the individuals can continue in the roles each has absorbed. The second selfish observance is the way the family reacts when Gregory becomes a burden, creating more work for them around the house. Even the hired maid asks on bended knee to be discharged immediately (Kafka, 2006, p. 1979). Yet, this is more than the bawdy, juvenile toilet humor one would encounter in a cheeky T.V. show for it has a literary purpose. Scatology is used to define the literary trope of the grotesque body. Through the realist perspective, Swift employs scatology to both shock and attract. He uses it to draw attention to Gulliver s humanity, and normalize the strangeness of the lands Gulliver visits. By successfully employing elements of the scatological to enhance his novel, Swift manages to create a novel that has both realist aesthetic and the fantastical grotesque. As a result of the grotesque simply being an exaggeration of reality, Swift by exaggerating the role of bodily functions highlights makes a private subject public and creates a common thread with his audience. He wanted to put an end to the Jim Crow laws which gave Negroes economic, educational, and social disadvantages. These laws made white people more superior than the blacks. Hope It s Good Enough Hope it s good enough. :o) African Trypanosomiasis, commonly known as African Sleeping sickness; is an infectious disease transmitted by the tsetse fly in rural parts of the African continent. Eventually, if left untreated, the disease will lead to death often within months. The disease causes suffering for humans and animals that humans rely on, leading to poor nations and little effort to eradicate the disease. Early African trypanosomiasis is linked heavily to the slave trade, as first accounts of the disease come from doctors and officers working for slaver companies. • 36. Paradox Of Thomas Gray Literature past and present is often a reflection of desire and intimacy, one s most inner thoughts feelings. A writers thoughts spilling onto the page, a cleanse of sorts. While other times it may be a commentary on society or a satire to highlight the numerous ills within a community of culture and so in many ways nothing has to remain unwritten, nothing can remain untouched by an authors hand, and yet even with seemingly all reaching grasp an author has when producing literature, there are however things that simply cannot be said the every looming unsayable that dictates that which must be left untouched, a paradox. But the question is not only what the unsayable is in context of time place, gender, and cultural influence, but what the accumulative role of the unsayable is within literature; this then leads to a discussion as to its role as a literary device. Thinking in paradoxes, poetry is both one of the most constrained, yet free forms of literature and a poet who particularly demonstrates the both as one and thus exploring the role of the unsayable is Thomas Gray. Gray s poetic style is often very much conforming to certain styles, especially in his sonnet [on the death of Richard West] , whereby he adheres to the common 14 lines that the sonnet form requires, while simultaneously having a rather scattered rhyme scheme of a,b,c,d. A,b,a,b. E,f,g,h, with the final couplet being g,h. The fact that the two are on opposing scales demonstrates Gray s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. A Pension Policy For The Province Of Ontario A pension policy for the province of Ontario is being discussed, in an attempt to make it more effective or being readily available. The existing issue is how it functions in low interests rates and low returns in equity markets. Also, the low participation in such plans is failing the system as a whole. It is important the government to protect workers in the private sector; as it is noted one third of the paid workforce in 2005 was in a registered pension plan. Canada lacks when it comes to voluntary employer sponsored pension plans and tax assisted programs, like the TFSA, who must improve their services. The current pension plan fails to accommodate for private sector workers that are provided with no other occupation related pension program other than the CPP. Many of the solvency funding rules are still adopted from the Ontario Pension Benefits Act in 1966. The voluntary participation system has failed in Canada. The government must change into a compulsory contribution system for it to achieve the sufficient accumulation of assets. It is of concern that nearly two thirds of private sector DB pensions plans operated either closed or frozen plans . All pension plans should be based on individual circumstances, but currently the system lacks in regulating. The other main issue is low household saving rates that are misbalancing pension funds reserves. Many politicians are focusing on the type of pension scheme to use, instead of finding a way to increase the level ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Disease Classification Structures Disease Classification Structures Health care information systems cover a wide range of issues dealing with the supervision and use of biomedical information. Health information systems are central support tools in the administration of health care services. An acceptable health information system is important not only for evaluating the health needs of populations but also for preparation and for application of health interventions. It is equally imperative in the assessment of programs. The goal of information systems is to create an appropriate working environment. New diseases are being found yearly to even monthly, and every several years the classification of diseases needs to be updated, which can cause changes to the past and current classification. • 40. Examples Of Operant Conditioning The section of this Chapter that I found to be interesting was Operant Conditioning. It was interesting how we can train and produce a behavior that is more probable to recur with positive and negative reinforcements. When we are presented with a positive reinforcer, we strengthen the probability that a response will recur (pg 114). For example, when we are training a dogto do tricks, we reward the dog with a treat every time the trick is performed correctly. With negative reinforcers we use unpleasant stimuli that strengthens a behavior by their removal (pg 115). When teach a dog to heel, we may use a harness around the dogs body. When the dog is pulling away, the harness creates an uncomfortable pressure. When the dog is walking in the right spot that pressure is then remove. With negative reinforcement we hope that the dog will get to a point that it avoids the pressure and and heels by our side. This type of training is referred as escape... Factors Influencing The Adoption Behavior Of Coffee Producers Selected explanatory variables A micro level approach was used in order to test which factors influence the adoption behavior of coffee producers with regard to SMPs. The model incorporates farm and management characteristics, the socioeconomic profile of producers and social capital indicators. Table 1 presents the descriptive statistics of the data collected. Several factors that were considered are accepted as common predictors of adoption in developing countries. However, three questions related to explanatory variables were not included in the final questionnaire. Firstly, we did not take into account access to bank loans since coffee farmers in Mexico are mostly unable to obtain investment credit from lending institutions. Producers usually have the option of obtaining short term financing (cash advances) either from local traders or from coffee cooperatives for those who are members. However, the availability of long term credit has virtually disappeared making it difficult for producers to defer the costs of implementing new practices over several years (AMECAFE, 2009). Secondly, tenure arrangements were not considered since households in the sampled area are governed by a communal land resources committee, an institution independent of the municipality. Under this system, producers hold usufruct rights to their coffee parcels. While a 1991 amendment to the Mexican constitution made the privatization of communal lands (ejidos) possible it remains the dominant type ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Heroin is the drug of choice for the protagonist, but other substances are also consumed throughout the film: heroin, prescription medication, opium, hash, amphetamines, and alcohol are a constant presence in the story. Repeated polysubstance abuse combined with a negative social environment and a weak support structure compounds the problems of Renton, a heroinaddicted young adult man living in Scotland. When examining the actual diagnostic criteria, causes, and treatment of drug addictionfrom the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, comparisons can be made between the portrayal of addictionin the film and reality. Consequently, this earthquake triggered the deadliest event in the history of Mount Everest when an avalanche killed 19 people two weeks later (1). This tragedy was caused by two pieces of the planet s crust that have been colliding for millions of years now. Moreover, this collision is based on the scientific theory of plate tectonicsthat cases the large scale motion of the planet s lithosphere. The same theory also explains how Mount Everest, a part of the Himalayas, was affected. Nepal s seismic nature and the Himalayas are connected through the collision of the Indian Plate and the Eurasian plate. First and foremost, plate tectonic theory deals with the idea that lithospheric plates or tectonic plates move around the crust. Tectonic plates are slabs of the Earths lithosphere which is a combination of the crust and uppermost mantle. The lithosphere is characterized by its rigid and cooler nature. On the other hand, the asthenosphere is hotter and more viscous and lies beneath the lithosphere. Together, the lithosphere and the asthenosphere makes up the outer layers of the Earth. These two layers are really important because the rigid pieces of the lithosphere ride on the viscosity of the asthenosphere (2).
