Affirmative Action Plan.
Affirmative Action Plan
Affirmative action is a plan to promote the efforts of employers, schools and other organizations to
recruit and hire groups that have previously been discriminated against. It is important to note that
affirmative action programs do not require employers to hire unqualified people for a job. Equal
employment opportunity is used to describe policies that prohibit discrimination of any kind.
Affirmative action is a program that analyses the make up of the current workforce, establishes
guidelines to insure an employer is not underutilizing certain groups and identifies and removes
barriers for employment. Equal employment is the legislation that provides the oversight and
investigates any allegations of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important to tie the affirmative action objectives to an individual s performance and part of the
review process. This will ensure adherence.
6. The communication plan is another crucial part of the program and involves many steps. Employers
should get the word out that they are an equal opportunity employer. Communicating this message is
great publicity. Unless it is communicated effectively no one will know.
Communications must be used to promote implementation internally. Posters can be put up throughout
the facility or special edition newsletters to create enthusiasm for the program. The next level of
communication is to go out into the communities by placing advertisements in local papers, talks with
the local officials to gain support. Perhaps by establishing an arrangement to get applicant referrals
through various state agencies, college placement offices and labor organizations perspective
employees can be canvassed.
Develop the appropriate communication strategies to target the right candidates for openings. If
women are being sought after, then perhaps placing advertisements in a journal or periodical that has a
higher female readership.
Provide written notification of company affirmative action policy to subcontractors, vendors and
suppliers and make sure that the company is partnering with the right mix. Today it is very important
to align with other organizations that are minority owned.

A Study Of History Coupled With Kuhn s Model For...
Delbruck s application of science to the study of history coupled with Kuhn s model for scientific
revolutions sheds light on the German High Command s inability to adapt its strategy during World
War I. To begin, Kuhn s model addresses how scientists arrive at new knowledge from periodic
revolutions or paradigm shifts. Normal science is research based on achievements where established
rules and standards leave little disagreement among practitioners concerning the fundamentals.
Consequently, problem solving uses a predetermined solution that generally fails to account for
anomalies. Scientists become aware of this, yet they hold on to the existing theory. This continues
until the theory weakens and other possibilities are considered. At a given point, crisis occurs which
might initiate a scientific revolution. Once the revolution occurs, the new paradigm often requires
rewriting texts on the subject area. Comparatively, Delbruck s use of various scientific methodologies
resulted in new ideas offering new explanations concerning historical events. Delbruck traced the
evolution of tactics by checking facts and taking note of anomalies where he reconstructed battles
from the Persian Wars to those of Napoleon. Delbruck then connected the character and design of the
state with the tactics and strategy it employed. Discovering that warfare differed from one era to the
next, his studies overturned many common interpretations of historical events. With that, Delbruck

Charles Luciano Research Paper

English 10H

The 1920s was a very eventful time period for the US crime scene. With the emergences of major
crime bosses like Al Capone, Meyer Lansky, Charles Luciano, and others there was much to be done
in the crime world. Charles Lucky Luciano (born as Salvatore Lucania) would become a key player in
the reshaping and modernization of the mafia and the crime world. Young Luciano would show signs
of pursuing a criminal career. His parents and family however disapproved of their son s action and
career path and essentially exiled him, respecting his family s wishes he would later change his name
from Salvatore Lucania to Charles Luciano. He also by the age of 10 he involved extortion, and
thievery. Upon his arrest for the distribution of drugs in 1915, the police would offered to release him
if he would tell them what he knew about the mob, Luciano however refused to talk due to the Sicilian
code of silence, this action would vastly considered pivotal in fast tracking his career in ... Show more

He would later leave the Five Points gang (soon afterwards the gang would crumple after key players
such as Al Capone and Lucky Luciano left the gang). He would join crime boss Joe Masseria as his
chief lieutenant and oversee Masseria s crime empire. By doing this Luciano would learn the internals
of the crime world and how operations worked. He also profited greatly from the operations and
would soon become a rich man, he was also running Manhattan s sole prostitution ring using
execution as a manor to keep things under control Along this time he would also be abducted, beaten,
stabbed repeatedly with an ice pick, had his throat slit from ear to ear and was left for dead on a Staten

Affordable Care Act For Employers
If you work for a company and are employed on a part time basis, beware! Due to mandates going
into force by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act for employers, anyone working less than
30 hours most likely is going to go without health benefits at some point. PPACA, originally proposed
as a way to help control health care costs, quickly morphed into a vehicle to control the insurance
market. Regardless of your political bent, the end result of PPACA is that millions of employees are
losing their insurance coverage. What the @% #!!!
Many part timers are facing a double whammy from President Obama s health care reform. The law
requires large employers offering health insurance to include part time employees working 30 hours a
week or more. But rather than provide health care to more workers, a growing number of employers
are cutting back employee hours instead. The result: Not only will these workers earn less money, but
they ll also miss out on health insurance at work.
Across the nation, hundreds of thousands of other hourly workers may also see smaller paychecks in
the coming year because of this response to PPACA. The law exempts businesses with fewer than 50
full time workers from this requirement to provide benefits. But big restaurant chains, retailers, and
movie theaters are starting to trim employee hours. Even colleges are reducing courses for part time
professors to keep their hours down and avoid paying for their health premiums.

Buddhism And The Noble Eightfold Path
Siddhartha Gautama was the founder of Buddhism (Van Voorst, R, 2013). Gautama lived a life of a
prince until he witnessed physical suffering in the world. Upon observing the suffering, Gautama
decided to give up everything to become a holy man. He created the Middle Path meaning the moment
between self denial and regular life. He discovered the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold
Path, (Van Voorst, R, 2013).
The basic characteristics of Buddhism are meditating, prayer, rest, exercise, lecture and small group
discussion with other Buddhists in Zen centers and temples around the world. Buddhists believe that
Siddhartha Gautama discovered the Middle Path out of suffering, reaching the full enlightenment that
rescued him from constant reincarnation into this world (Voorst, R., 2013) .
They also believe in karma and rebirth until they reach the point of enlightenment. Enlightenment is
reached once they have strived and reached for nirvana. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Four Noble Truths is a fundamental concept of Buddhism. Those truths are suffering, the reason
for suffering, the end of suffering, and the path to the end of suffering as described in the 2017
Encyclopedia Britannica. Gautama claims once he discovered these truths, he enlightened and was

The Demise Of Major John Andre During The Revolutionary War
Throughout the Revolutionary War Major John Andre was the head of intelligence for the British. He
was one of the most important men for the British. This was from him being head of spy craft and
gaining information on the Patriots. His job had him gather intelligence and recruit spies for the
British. There were several major reasons that led to his downfall. A majority of the reasons for his
downfall was himself. He had a lack of field knowledge. He disobeyed direct orders from a superior
officer. He did not wear his military uniform in enemy territory. He had a downward look on the
Patriots. Major John Andre had never had any field experience so his lack of field knowledge was one
of the reasons to his downfall. With Major Andre being so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

evening, Arnold s intermediary, Joshua Smith, collected André, who was inexplicably posing a

the west bank of the Hudson. (Rose 203) By listening to Arnold and Smith, Andre wore civilian

misjudged the situation, and cheerily declared: My lads, I hope you belong to our party. Paulding
asked which party that might be. The lower, said André, referring to the British side. (Rose 205).

Public Schooling And Public Education
With the many diverse characteristics of the Unites States, perhaps the most troubling is the rising gap
in the distribution of wealth. As the wealth gap in the United States rises exponentially, the gap in the
quality of public schooling rises with it. For a country that prides itself in prestigious outlets of
education, the system of public schooling seems to be miserably failing. Public education, a system
that some fight to destroy while others fight to preserve, is perhaps the only source of academic
opportunity for many individuals living in this country. The fact that someone can live in a certain area
and receive a higher quality of public education than someone else living in a different area in the
same country even in the same state is a problem that should not trouble a progressive democratic
society. Unfortunately, areas of lower socioeconomic status receive much less funding than areas of
higher socioeconomic status, where property taxes account for 45% of funding in public school
districts. Naturally, the impoverished residents of poor neighborhoods pay a harsh price in this
situation, sending their children to an underfunded school with little to no resources, where sometimes
teachers must supply the classroom from their own pocket. As Rogerson and Fernandez note, a system
that allows the accidents of geography and birth to determine the quality of education received by an
individual is inimical to the idea of equal opportunity in the marketplace

Anarchist Wave Research Paper
An anarchist is seen as someone whose aim is to overturn any form of government or law system
conversely creating a system free state (1). Although their main aim was to create a heaven on earth
(2) , whereby each individual lives based on their morals of life, violence was commonly used to
abolish government authority. Anarchist had a strong belief, that all humans wanted to live in a state of
harmony and peace, where law and government was not forced upon them (3). In order to initiate this
a movement referred to as a wave was used. A wave is a series of movement within a time period

The flower will be in bloom for longer than an hour, but the meaning behind that shows a bigger
picture in life s upsets. Often in life we have situations that gives us insights on better things in life
because they end on a bad note. Other times, we have situations in life that show us how to overcome
sadness in bad situations. In the line of goes down to day , I think that frost is speaking on the how a
day may start fresh and great but may end on a bad note from an experience. Some may take that that
line as meaning that their good thing is gone. The day is over and the good has ended. The last line of
the the poem, is the title of the poem. I think that Frost, let it be the last thing mentioned to show the
ending of something beautiful. The last lined as mentioned takes us through what happened before the
day ended and sunset. In the last line there is a depiction of how a good day has to end even when we
do not want it to. A great example of a big day is a wedding. For most people they do not not want
their wedding day to end because, it is one of the best days of their life. Also, some people may want it

Negative Thoughts And Shame Addiction
Negative Thoughts and Shame Addiction
Posted on July 20 by johnmerideth
Addiction
When we think about addiction, it seems we mostly talk about substances or activities and rarely about
the deeply set emotions that come with being an addict. Recently I watched the HBO special
Addiction, and was struck by its limited scope in relating dependence or addiction to thoughts. As I
watched the segments, I wondered if they had considered the number of ordinary people struggling
with the less obvious but equally debilitating addiction to shame. Shame drives tapes within the mind
of each person in slightly different ways but the outcome for most of us is the same...unfulfilling
choices.
In the HBO special they did cover how brain imaging research, MRI, illustrates the way in which the
animal brain, the limbic part of our neural anatomy, overrides the decision making prefrontal lobe. It
can be a smell or place or the intensity of a conversation...whatever the cause...once the
addiction/dependence circuit is triggered there is little time for the do you really want to do that
thought to emerge and take hold before the flight or fight response kicks into overdrive. What started
as a survival mechanism, over time, becomes a sure fire method for self abuse and dis ease.
For most of us there is a mental leap to be made between negative thinking induced by shame and
addiction or dependence. We have trouble with the addicted label, at least in part, due to the stigma
attached to the words

c. You need to see that your child is your own reflection, and you can see yourself from him. I hope
every couple re consecrates themselves to the lord when they have children. Today, the Lord entrusts a

B. As parents, we must walk with God.
1. The parents should not only be holy in front of their children, but also should be really holy, really

The Instrument Used For Measure Temperature Is A Thermometer
The instrument used to measure temperature is a thermometer. There are many types of thermometers;
the most common consist of a closed, graduated glass tube in which a liquid expands or contracts as
the temperature increases or decreases. Many different types of thermometers work by detecting
changes in the volume or pressure of an enclosed gas or by registering thermoelectric changes in a

attempt at measuring temperature.

As multifaceted the word is, there have been ad nauseum amount of arguments regarding what it is
and how it relates to the physical (arguable by idealism) body. This age old topic of discussion have
presented to the public few theories and among them is materialism. Materialism, closely related to
physicalism, states that mind equals the brain; Everything can be fully explained by how the brain
functions. Materialism is associated with reductionism in that the theory simplifies the concept of
mind to neurophysiological terms. Thomas Nagel critiques this notion in his essay What Is It Like To
Be a Bat? (1974). Although he himself believes in materialism, Nagel denies that it was the absolute
solution to the mind body problem. He argues that materialist theories of mind omit the essential
component: what it is like for an organism to be it. The subjective character of conscious experience
can not be understood by anyone outside of the beholder of the consciousness and therefore
undermines reductionists effort to explain consciousness objectively. Accordingly, Nagel concludes
that is the limit of imagination. The clone and I will have exactly the same brain that has encoded my

Feminism One Of The Biggest Topics Today And Is Defined
Feminism one of the biggest topics today and is defined as the public support of the rights of women
on the basis of equality of the sexes. In fact, the main reason feminism is such a popular topic is
because of how men were treated as the dominant gender .
Back then, women were given specific roles by society to be housewives and only cook and take care
of the children. The idea of feminism, however, did slowly develop until in 1848 after their
oppression, when the first Women s conference was held in Seneca Falls, America. Ever since then,
the amount of feminists and feminist activities around the world have increased a great amount.

Heteronormativity In Giovanni s Room
In the life alternating novel Giovanni s Room A group of men faces the long path of sexuality, in a
society that is not so gracious towards homosexuality. They live in a society/ culture that bows down
to heteronormativity, where you hide in allies and rooms to love whom sexes should love. The book
takes place in the 1950 s, which means if a man didn t meet up to society standards they were treated
as trash. Thus creating not only a clash in love, but also a clash in class rankings. Heteronormativity
and class inequalities where ultimately what lead up to Giovanni s tragic fate at the end of the novel.
Firstly, this paper will explain the concept of heteronormativity which lead to Giovanni s unfortunate
death. Giovanni found himself in love with a man who was too afraid to love himself, this man s name
was David. Throughout the entire novel David has internalized heteronormativity, he told the world he

consists of African Americans and Hispanics, mainly Puerto Ricans. Although there is a significant
presence of many other racial groups including Irish, Dominican, White Americans, and Italians,
North Philadelphia has the highest percentage of Puerto Ricans in the nation (United States Census

African Americans is 34 percent higher than for the overall U.S. population (Seconds Count.org). The
American Heart Association states that heart disease is the number one cause of death for all

The Importance Of Alcoholism In Beowulf
Alcohol has been observed in countless works of literature throughout history. It has been seen a tool
of an assailant, the preferred drink of unsavory character, or maybe even a symbol of peace. The
versatile concoction has taken many forms, and at times it seems to be specifically praised and at other
moments it is just a convenient transition to the next viable part of the narrative. Yet there are some
narratives that expose alcohol as an important part of their ceremonies and rituals without calling
undue notice to this feature. While glory, fame, and reputation are significant elements to the overall
foundation of the Warrior society that is explored within Beowulf, there are other less obvious
elements that hold crucial substance as well. The ceremonies such as the feasts, the passing of the beer
horn, and gift presentations are saturated with ritual demands that must be observed. This analysis will
take a deeper look at the significance of beer drinking that is exposed as a crucial element to the ritual
completion during two different moments with the text. The first will be the Feast after Beowulf s
arrival at King Hrothgar s court and the second will be during the feast as which Freawaru is observed
distributing drink and gifts. Could the drink be used as a formality of displaying alliance and safe
boarding or could it be a be a way to temper reactions during more emotionally charged moments?

Utilitarianism, By John Stuart Mill
Utilitarianism is a doctrine in normative ethics that is outlined and defended by many philosophers,
including the English philosopher John Stuart Mill as a standard to determine what are right and
wrong actions. At its most basic claim, the right course of action one must take should be in the
interest of maximizing what is known as utility. The right course of action is determined as being right
if it maximizes the total benefit and happiness gained, while at the same time reducing the greatest
amount of pain for the greatest number of people. To put it simply, utilitarianism merits the greatest
good for the greatest number. In Utilitarianism, John Stuart Mill details his explanation and support of
the theory, and provides common criticisms of the theory that he refutes throughout the piece. A
couple of these critiques include claims that the concept of utility is opposed to the concept of
pleasure, and that it renders men cold and unsympathizing (p. 20). With conviction, Mill is able to
successfully vindicate and define utilitarianism from critiques, although he could go beyond defining
by providing examples and illustrations of utilitarianism in the way that critiques perceive it to be in
order to demonstrate faults and holes that would arise. The principle of utility is a concept that was
primarily introduced academically by philosopher Jeremy Bentham and later confounded upon to
become what is known as the Greatest Happiness Principle. Bentham focuses on the

Homeland Security Review Essay
Every year the United States faces new and different threats and hazards, which can be difficult to
identify. The 2014 Quadrennial Homeland Security Review, which was released by the Department of
Homeland Security (DHS), laid out what they believe will drive risks to the nation over the next
several years. The report pinpointed six calculated challenges terrorist threats; cyber threats; biological
concerns; nuclear terrorism; transnational criminal organizations, and natural hazards which DHS
feels are the most likely to occur (DHS, 2014, pg. 28). In this paper I will discuss each threat in more
detail and which of these threats pose the ultimate risks to local communities, and how the
communities can utilize their resources to prevent or mitigate these risks. The terrorist threat is quickly
becoming one of the most significant threats to the United States, but more importantly to local
communities. Terrorist threats can come from large scale attacks like the 9/11 attacks or from smaller
loan wolf threats like the San Bernardino, CA shootings. In either case, local communities, families,
and law enforcement (LE) agencies feel the initial impact as well as the immediate and long term
fallout. State, local, and tribal governments use the Threat and Hazard Identification and Risk
Assessment process to detect risks and decide how to tackle the challenges (DHS, 2014, pg. 36). To

Analysis Of Heidi s The Great Gatsby
Heidi s tragic side is fully revealed in this entire speech where humor and drama are perfectly blended
to emphasize her moment of realization. She becomes a diminished character who no longer knows
who she is and decides to leave New York to sort out her future. Like a true dark comedy protagonist,
she is vulnerable and has lost control. She realizes her downfalls and the comedy lies in the superiority
felt by the spectator due to man s delight in man s inhumanity to man (Capp 220). In the area of
humanness, Heidi may not be ordinary, but can still be considered an everywoman for her generation.
She is looking for fulfillment, a universal desire shared by women of all generations trying to balance
personal dreams with societal expectations. The illusion of who she longs to be is overshadowed by
her need to laugh off the heartaches and mask her true identity. She attempts to cover the duller
elements of her personality and never turns to a higher power for assistance, as is characteristic of a
dark comic protagonist. Her speech in Act II referenced above shows signs of a dark comic
protagonist who clears his throats and scratches her nose (Styan, The Dark 275). She will never
emerge as a hero, or as Guthke s tenet suggests, be able to clear her pain stricken conscience (162).
She attempts to do so by adopting a baby, however, but it is clear to the spectator that the question of
happiness will remain unanswered for Heidi: SCOOP. But now. Right now.

How Does The Author Use Time In The Great Gatsby Epistemic...
Time is essential to living in the universe. Time is the idea that with every second that passes, will be
unique. In The Great Gatsby, Nick is an epistemic narrator. This means that he is flashing back to this
time in his life where he lived in West Egg and had a neighbor by the name of Gatsby. This novel also
withholds the characteristics of Gatsby s axiological narrative. Both of these narrative modalities are
critical to the reader and further understanding of the novel.
Nick is an epistemic narrator which means he is reflecting on a certain situation. An epistemic
narrative can sometimes seem to create a mystery in how it s written. The key to an epistemic narrator
is a sustained, communal acquisition of knowledge not associated with a time variable. Throughout
this novel we are getting short pieces of the story marked through time. At nine o clock one morning
late in July... (Ch 4. Pg 63). And Nick does this again in chapter five when he states Two o clock and
the whole corner of the peninsula was blazing with light... (Ch 5. Pg 81). In both of these instances he
sets the scene with a certain time he remembers. Nick as the epistemic narrator not only selects
chapters four through six to use this type of time sense of the setting, but he does it for the rest of the
novel as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The axiological narrative involves forming moral obligations based on ethics, values, and religion. In
F. Scott Fitzgerald s text Gatsby wants nothing more that Daisy. He values who Daisy is and feels it s
a moral obligation to have her. Gatsby values the money he possess, but desires Daisy for reason that
she also has a connection, an almost symbolic connection with money. Multiple instances she is
related with wealth and prosperity. Gatsby, coming from a poor background, and not having the luxury
of the money he has now can give the reader a good understanding of how much he values money or

Investigative Techniques Of A Bomb Investigation
Investigative Techniques
In life every individual develops his or her way in which they do things. For example, you may put
your shoes on and then your coat to go outside while others may do that action in reverse. The key
though is that both people put their shoes and coat on before going outside. Just as in that example
there are certain steps to a bomb investigation, in which some investigators may do in a different order
but in the end all of the steps will be complete. There are certain questions an investigator must ask
while proceeding through those steps as well. The biggest thing that one needs to know about
investigating an explosion is that it is a rare occurrence and in the case of recent events ends up

through nitro aromatics (Toal, Sanchez, Dugan, Trogler, 2007). As stated above there are several
different ways in which that compound can be detected is utilizing Photoluminescent Metallole
containing Polymers.
However, before one can look for any trace or components of an explosive we must first understand
what questions need to be answered. There are five questions that through an investigation must be
answered. If those questions are answered you will most likely arrive at a perpetrator. These five
questions are as follows:
1. Was the explosion accidental or intentional?
2. If it was intentional, what was the target?
3. What was used to make the explosive device?
4. What level of skill was needed to make the device?
5. Where were the materials to make the device obtained from?
If an investigator answers those five questions they more than likely will be able to answer the more
important question of who detonated the device. The question then becomes how one goes about
answering those questions. In a book written by Charles and Gregory O Hara (2003) there was a
comprehensive guide to these type of investigations that encompass six useful factors:
1. Target
2. Opportunity

Tanguy s Painting The Earth And The Air
The earth and the air is an oil painting by the French Surrealist Yves Tanguy. It is one of the modern
art paintings in the Cone Collection, in the Baltimore Museum of Art. It is created by Tanguy in 1941.
It is about 30 x 40 wide with a wooden frame. The background colors divide the piece into mainly two
sections, the top and the bottom part. The top part is about 3/5 of the whole piece. It is painted in blue
and white, like a watercolor like sky without any subject matters. It has a dreamy feeling because the
colors blend smoothly.
There is no clear horizon line in the painting but it is still possible to separate the ground and the sky
by the background colors or the compositions. The top part is in mainly blue and white while the ...

The larger pieces are in the front while the objects in the back are smaller. Also the cast black shadows
of the objects are distinct with clear edges and more than one light spots are found in the painting.
Therefore there are several light sources coming from the right hand corner of the painting and shine
to the objects.
It is assumed that the main focus of the painting is the bottom part because the objects are placed there
and they draw viewers attention first. They are realistic but abstract and evenly distributed on the
page. They look like modern sculptures not only with alien shapes but also innovative colors. There
are a group of building like shapes on the most front of the painting. They are connected at the bottom
part so they can be described as a group. They have different dimensions and one of them has a very
sharp part pointing upwards to the melting land between the ground and the sky. There are several
alien objects around the main group, which some of them are really tiny but still are painted precisely.
There is a transparent object in between the middle ground and the background on the left hand side of
the painting. The whole shape blends into the background because of its transparency. Also it is
because there is not enough light shinning to the object to make it easily visible. One of the interesting
about the painting is there are two super tiny spots near the transparent object. They are painted clearly
and you can see them only on closer

Stalin Darkness At Noon Analysis
Stalin consciously and purposefully conducted a series of purges of the Bolshevik party in the 1930s.
These purges, and the Show Trials that accompanied them, solidified his cult of personality and
control of the country. Old Bolsheviks who opposed him in the past or could do so in the future were
arrested, made an example of, and typically executed. Stalin and his Politburo truly believed that
many people were out to get them, and anyone who was not on Stalin s side was against him. Often
the accused were convicted due to inaccurate or fraudulent evidence. Although Stalin was the main
perpetrator of these Purges, this essay examines the role of the accused in Darkness at Noon by Arthur
Koestler, and Last Letter to Stalin by Nikolai Bukharin, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both figures believe that throughout their entire life, their loyalty to the party has been unhindered, yet
question the system after being convicted and interrogated. During a scene in the novel where
Rubashov lectures Richard, a young German communist, Rubashov tells him, The Party can never be
mistaken...it is the embodiment of the revolutionary idea in history...knows no scruples and no
hesitation...makes no mistakes...he who has not absolute faith in history does not belong in the Party s
ranks (Koestler, p 43). Rubashov s beliefs mimic Bukharin s unyielding stance on communist
principles and party policies. Bukharin says, I know all too well that great plans, great ideas and great
interests take precedence over everything, and I know that it would be petty for me to place the
question of my own person on a par with the universal historical tasks resting, first and foremost, on
your shoulders. In these two men, the realization is that the party is the ultimate goal, individual
people can be wrong but the Communist party can never be mistaken. Not believing in these ideals is
a direct opposition to the party itself. Later in the novel Rubashov realizes that that Party s policies are
actually going against the ideals the revolution stood for when he tells Ivanov, in the interest of a just
distribution of land we deliberately let die of starvation about five million farmers...we sent about ten
million people to do forced labor...Our engineers work wight he constant knowledge that an error in
calculation may take them to prison or the scaffold...we whip the groaning masses of the country
towards a theoretical future happiness (Koestler p 163). This is where we see a split in the ideologies
of Bukharin and Rubashov. While Rubashov has lost belief in the party system, Bukharin still justifies
Stalin s actions. He still thinks there is something great and bold about the

Public Television And Its Effect On Corporate Funding
Public is a Misnomer
Public television, as it exists now in the United States, is funded, in part, by corporations. In
discussion section 306 Joe mentioned that the Ford Motor Company is one of PBS big corporate
sponsors (2016). The very definition of public television is that the content is publicly funded;
whether through government grants, or public donations. A corporation stepping in to supply funding
ruins the sanctity of the public broadcasting, by taking the bias out of what is produced and how it is
produced. If PBS is in part funded by corporations, the whole idea of a publicly funded networks is
dead.
PBS was created in a time where the classic broadcast archetype was the only way television got
made. In the first week of class, Professor Johnson explained that the classic American network
television archetype relies on corporate funding in the form of advertisement sales (2016). A certain
amount of viewership of a given show, on a given night, can drive huge ad sales. The higher a show s
ratings, the bigger the ad sales. PBS combatted this archetype by attempting to produce content by
means of government grants and viewer donations.
The creation of over the top services like Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime, are shifting the way the
model works. Crawford defines over the top as a provider who makes video available over the internet
(112). The Nielsen Company tried to account for the DVR viewers, but with companies like Netflix

Linda Papa said that while we can conduct many blood tests for other parts of the body such as the
kidneys, the heart and the liver, we have never found a reliable blood test for TBIs. With this new
system, everything could be changed. People could be tested on the field instead of having to visit the
doctor, and with its 94 percent accuracy, it makes sense to use it. When Papa and her medical team
conducted CT scans on 152 children and compared the results to a blood test, they learned that the
blood test could still accurately identify the areas that a patient had experienced a TBI. In addition,
blood testing also gave doctors an idea about the severity of the person s TBI. Despite these findings,
the study did have its limitations. For example, researchers still need to test the results on a larger
group of children to be certain. Should researchers uncover a method of taking the guess work out of
diagnosis s, it would revolutionize the manner that we test for concussions on the game field.
However, researchers want to continue with the studies on this new technology to make sure that it
works. After they have discovered the results on a larger scale, they suspect that blood testing for
concussions will be available over the next five year

Different Types Of Mutual Funds
Types of Mutual Funds
We have seen many evolutions in the stock market since its inception. Mutual funds have lasted
through many of the changes we have seen over time and show no real sign of faltering. Below you
will find a brief description of the various types of mutual funds currently on the market.
Equity Funds. These funds deal with equity shares of corporations. They carry not only high risks but
also the opportunity for high rewards. Depending on the industry involved, these funds may be sector

they consist of many funds from different sectors.

If you have a little bit of adventure but don t want to risk it all then perhaps the balance fund is your
best destination.
Price Determination
Once you have a basic understanding of the available options, the next step lies in understanding the
price and how it is determined. The income of mutual funds is generally acquired in the form of
interest, dividends, and trading. In debt securities however interest income is all but assured. This is
not the case when dealing with equity stocks and the dividend in these situations depends on the
profits earned by the company among other factors.
When investing in debt funds it may be that your best interest would not be a mutual fund. If you can
afford the investment without the mutual fund you should determine which would be best for your
situation. You want to choose the route that will offer you the higher reward. Keep in mind that market
trends do not carry quite the weight when dealing with debt funds, as they will with equity funds.
Equity funds offer trading that is based on the perception of the fund manager as to what the market is
preparing to do and the current risks vs. the potential reward. There are many things that will affect a
stocks future from legislation to competition and millions of things in between that aren t limited to
technological advances and scientific breakthroughs. Thus the higher risk nature of this particular type

The Workings of Cinematrography
Depth of field is an element in cinematography that means a range of distance between objects and
how they are being shot in sharp focus. Depth controls the perspective relations by depicting what
planes will be in focus. There is also a director s decision to choose a selective view. It is used to focus
on only one plane and the others being blurred. Selective focusing automatically makes us pay
attention to one area equally visibly but not all being in sharp view. It also examines deep focus and
racking focus. Deep focus is a tight shot of an object; it s a shorter lens and offers better lighting to be
focused on. Attention is on several areas all being visible. Racking focus also known as pulling focus .
The point of this focus is to transfers the attention from the foreground and the background. It overall
makes one action blurred and another in a sharp focus.
In the film Hurt Locker depth of field is very present. The clip I chose to give the example is

On July 23, 1967, a massive riot began in Detroit because a rumor was spread that police used
excessive force during a street bar raid on an unlicensed bar. During the riot many buildings were
destroyed and a lot of people were killed and injured, with some people being shot and killed by
police trying to control the riot. Many people like Detroit Congressman John Conyers and Mayor
Jerome Cavanaugh helped to stop the riot. Finally, the riot ended on July 27th, although the aftermath
of the riot left about $32 million in property damage. When the rumor was started that police were
using excessive force during the street bar raid on July 23, 1967, people got furious, which led to the
start of the riot, which caused a lot of damage to people

Final Essay. Trumps New World Order. Krysteena Rodriguez.
Final essay Trumps new world order Krysteena Rodriguez Western Connecticut State University
History 149 American history May 12, 2017 With last year being the first election that I could vote in,
I took particular interest in keeping up with politics as much as I could. It was truly sad to see Obama
leave office, being that he was a symbol of hope for so many, regardless of the critiques on how well
he did his job. When our current president, something that is still hard for me to face the reality of,
Donald Trump, announced his campaign I thought he had no chance. I did not see it possible for a man
with no political background, who is only known for being a wealthy businessman along with reality
star to become the leader of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It would be beneficial for the president to meet with the founders of the movement, to discuss what
they are advocating for and how the president can intervene. Let s look back at the early 1900s. Our
countries history of slavery is no secret. Although slavery was abolished decades prior, the mindsets of
those who lived during those times were stagnant. While they were freed from slavery, for long after,
African Americans were not privileged with the same freedom of white Americans. It is common
when racism is discussed that people mention when slavery was abolished however limitations were
still put on ex slaves that limited their possibility of growing and achieving more. Foner stated, Nor
could blacks, the majority desperately poor, participate fully in the emerging consumer economy,
either as employees in the new department stores (except as janitors and cleaning women) or as
purchasers of the consumer goods now flooding the marketplace. It is important that the struggles
faced even after abolition be recognized. When blacks did not abide by Jim Crow laws created to keep
black and whites divided they were met with violence. Foner mentioned a riot that resulted in the
death of 39 people, leaving 500 others injured that took place due to a black male accidently
overstepping a line that divided beaches between

Analysis and Discussion of the Representation of Women in...
In this essay I will be analysing and discussing the representation of women in the Welsh novel of The
Mabinogion, in particular; the portrayal of the calumniated wife, a theme which is recurrent through
Medieval Welsh literature. I will focusing in particular on how women s speech is represented and
how their relationships with other women and men are portrayed. I will also be looking at different
female protagonists self government and autonomy throughout the four branches. Throughout my
research I am expecting to find at least two different portrayals of women. One being a strong,
influential and sure woman, and the other being a more passive individual and more stereotypical of a
maiden in Welsh literature. The first female ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After this introduction to Rhiannon she later reiterates her authority and shows she is not afraid to
voice her opinions against an authoritative man. This can be seen when Pwyll grants the man
Rhiannon is due to marry anything he requests. Rhiannon immediately judges his actions Never has a
man been more stupid than you have been (Davies 2007: 12). This characterization of Rhiannon is
strong and sure; she is assertive and dominant, often domineering. (Ford 2008: p.36 37). Rhiannon s
speech here displays her as a wise and learned individual. She is easily a match for Pwyll, and has
been described by McKenna (2006:1622) as a catalyst in Pwyll s development as a competent ruler.
This can be further seen as after Pwyll s naïve mistake she takes control and concocts a plan to return
to Pwyll in a year s time. The words Rhiannon chooses show how she dominates the situation by
repeating the pronoun I . I ll see to it (Davies 2007: 12). This suggests she feels she has to take control
of the situation as Pwyll cannot, she thinks on her feet and immediately knows what to do. Rhiannon
is an outspoken woman and is not afraid to force her opinion upon her husband and in doing so she
carries the weight of the Kingdom of Dyfed on her shoulders through the weaknesses of her husband.
(Emrys Evans 1978: 24). This is again displayed by her fixing his mistake. When looking at the
relationship between Rhiannon and Pwyll it is important to

Hemostasis Research Paper
Hemostasis is the process that causes bleeding to stop. It also changes blood from a liquid to a gel. It
consists of three processes, vascular spasm, platelet plug formation and blood coagulation. Vascular
spasm is the first step in heeling in the wound. Vascular spasm is when the damaged blood vessels
constrict due to tightening of muscle cells on the inside wall. This helps decrease blood flow, thus
minimizing blood loss. Then platelet plug formation occurs. This is when platelets adhere to the
damaged endothelium and form a plug. Normally platelets do not stick to the endothelial lining but
during an injury collagen is exposed. The exposed collagen activates the platelets to stick together and
form a plug. Once the platelets are stuck together

Affirmative Action Plan Affirmative action is a plan to promote the efforts of employers, schools and other organizations to recruit and hire groups that have previously been discriminated against. It is important to note that affirmative action programs do not require employers to hire unqualified people for a job. Equal employment opportunity is used to describe policies that prohibit discrimination of any kind. It is important to tie the affirmative action objectives to an individual s performance and part of the review process. This will ensure adherence. 6. The communication plan is another crucial part of the program and involves many steps. Employers should get the word out that they are an equal opportunity employer. Communicating this message is great publicity. Unless it is communicated effectively no one will know. Communications must be used to promote implementation internally. • 3. A Study Of History Coupled With Kuhn s Model For... Delbruck s application of science to the study of history coupled with Kuhn s model for scientific revolutions sheds light on the German High Command s inability to adapt its strategy during World War I. To begin, Kuhn s model addresses how scientists arrive at new knowledge from periodic revolutions or paradigm shifts. Normal science is research based on achievements where established rules and standards leave little disagreement among practitioners concerning the fundamentals. Consequently, problem solving uses a predetermined solution that generally fails to account for anomalies. Scientists become aware of this, yet they hold on to the existing theory. This continues until the theory weakens and other possibilities are considered. At a given point, crisis occurs which might initiate a scientific revolution. Once the revolution occurs, the new paradigm often requires rewriting texts on the subject area. Comparatively, Delbruck s use of various scientific methodologies resulted in new ideas offering new explanations concerning historical events. Delbruck traced the evolution of tactics by checking facts and taking note of anomalies where he reconstructed battles from the Persian Wars to those of Napoleon. Delbruck then connected the character and design of the state with the tactics and strategy it employed. Discovering that warfare differed from one era to the next, his studies overturned many common interpretations of historical events. With that, Delbruck ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Due to mandates going into force by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act for employers, anyone working less than 30 hours most likely is going to go without health benefits at some point. PPACA, originally proposed as a way to help control health care costs, quickly morphed into a vehicle to control the insurance market. Regardless of your political bent, the end result of PPACA is that millions of employees are losing their insurance coverage. What the @% #!!! Many part timers are facing a double whammy from President Obama s health care reform. The law requires large employers offering health insurance to include part time employees working 30 hours a week or more. But rather than provide health care to more workers, a growing number of employers are cutting back employee hours instead. The result: Not only will these workers earn less money, but they ll also miss out on health insurance at work. Across the nation, hundreds of thousands of other hourly workers may also see smaller paychecks in the coming year because of this response to PPACA. The law exempts businesses with fewer than 50 full time workers from this requirement to provide benefits. • 10. Public Schooling And Public Education With the many diverse characteristics of the Unites States, perhaps the most troubling is the rising gap in the distribution of wealth. As the wealth gap in the United States rises exponentially, the gap in the quality of public schooling rises with it. For a country that prides itself in prestigious outlets of education, the system of public schooling seems to be miserably failing. Public education, a system that some fight to destroy while others fight to preserve, is perhaps the only source of academic opportunity for many individuals living in this country. The fact that someone can live in a certain area and receive a higher quality of public education than someone else living in a different area in the same country even in the same state is a problem that should not trouble a progressive democratic society. Unfortunately, areas of lower socioeconomic status receive much less funding than areas of higher socioeconomic status, where property taxes account for 45% of funding in public school districts. Naturally, the impoverished residents of poor neighborhoods pay a harsh price in this situation, sending their children to an underfunded school with little to no resources, where sometimes teachers must supply the classroom from their own pocket. As Rogerson and Fernandez note, a system that allows the accidents of geography and birth to determine the quality of education received by an individual is inimical to the idea of equal opportunity in the marketplace ... Negative Thoughts And Shame Addiction Negative Thoughts and Shame Addiction Posted on July 20 by johnmerideth Addiction When we think about addiction, it seems we mostly talk about substances or activities and rarely about the deeply set emotions that come with being an addict. Recently I watched the HBO special Addiction, and was struck by its limited scope in relating dependence or addiction to thoughts. As I watched the segments, I wondered if they had considered the number of ordinary people struggling with the less obvious but equally debilitating addiction to shame. Shame drives tapes within the mind of each person in slightly different ways but the outcome for most of us is the same...unfulfilling choices. Materialism, closely related to physicalism, states that mind equals the brain; Everything can be fully explained by how the brain functions. Materialism is associated with reductionism in that the theory simplifies the concept of mind to neurophysiological terms. Thomas Nagel critiques this notion in his essay What Is It Like To Be a Bat? (1974). Although he himself believes in materialism, Nagel denies that it was the absolute solution to the mind body problem. He argues that materialist theories of mind omit the essential component: what it is like for an organism to be it. The subjective character of conscious experience can not be understood by anyone outside of the beholder of the consciousness and therefore undermines reductionists effort to explain consciousness objectively. • 24. The Importance Of Alcoholism In Beowulf Alcohol has been observed in countless works of literature throughout history. It has been seen a tool of an assailant, the preferred drink of unsavory character, or maybe even a symbol of peace. The versatile concoction has taken many forms, and at times it seems to be specifically praised and at other moments it is just a convenient transition to the next viable part of the narrative. Yet there are some narratives that expose alcohol as an important part of their ceremonies and rituals without calling undue notice to this feature. While glory, fame, and reputation are significant elements to the overall foundation of the Warrior society that is explored within Beowulf, there are other less obvious elements that hold crucial substance as well. The ceremonies such as the feasts, the passing of the beer horn, and gift presentations are saturated with ritual demands that must be observed. This analysis will take a deeper look at the significance of beer drinking that is exposed as a crucial element to the ritual completion during two different moments with the text. The first will be the Feast after Beowulf s arrival at King Hrothgar s court and the second will be during the feast as which Freawaru is observed distributing drink and gifts. Could the drink be used as a formality of displaying alliance and safe boarding or could it be a be a way to temper reactions during more emotionally charged moments? • 25. Utilitarianism, By John Stuart Mill Utilitarianism is a doctrine in normative ethics that is outlined and defended by many philosophers, including the English philosopher John Stuart Mill as a standard to determine what are right and wrong actions. At its most basic claim, the right course of action one must take should be in the interest of maximizing what is known as utility. The right course of action is determined as being right if it maximizes the total benefit and happiness gained, while at the same time reducing the greatest amount of pain for the greatest number of people. To put it simply, utilitarianism merits the greatest good for the greatest number. In Utilitarianism, John Stuart Mill details his explanation and support of the theory, and provides common criticisms of the theory that he refutes throughout the piece. A couple of these critiques include claims that the concept of utility is opposed to the concept of pleasure, and that it renders men cold and unsympathizing (p. 20). With conviction, Mill is able to successfully vindicate and define utilitarianism from critiques, although he could go beyond defining by providing examples and illustrations of utilitarianism in the way that critiques perceive it to be in order to demonstrate faults and holes that would arise. The principle of utility is a concept that was primarily introduced academically by philosopher Jeremy Bentham and later confounded upon to become what is known as the Greatest Happiness Principle. • 26. Homeland Security Review Essay Every year the United States faces new and different threats and hazards, which can be difficult to identify. The 2014 Quadrennial Homeland Security Review, which was released by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), laid out what they believe will drive risks to the nation over the next several years. The report pinpointed six calculated challenges terrorist threats; cyber threats; biological concerns; nuclear terrorism; transnational criminal organizations, and natural hazards which DHS feels are the most likely to occur (DHS, 2014, pg. 28). In this paper I will discuss each threat in more detail and which of these threats pose the ultimate risks to local communities, and how the communities can utilize their resources to prevent or mitigate these risks. The terrorist threat is quickly becoming one of the most significant threats to the United States, but more importantly to local communities. Terrorist threats can come from large scale attacks like the 9/11 attacks or from smaller loan wolf threats like the San Bernardino, CA shootings. In either case, local communities, families, and law enforcement (LE) agencies feel the initial impact as well as the immediate and long term fallout. State, local, and tribal governments use the Threat and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment process to detect risks and decide how to tackle the challenges (DHS, 2014, pg. 36). She becomes a diminished character who no longer knows who she is and decides to leave New York to sort out her future. Like a true dark comedy protagonist, she is vulnerable and has lost control. She realizes her downfalls and the comedy lies in the superiority felt by the spectator due to man s delight in man s inhumanity to man (Capp 220). In the area of humanness, Heidi may not be ordinary, but can still be considered an everywoman for her generation. She is looking for fulfillment, a universal desire shared by women of all generations trying to balance personal dreams with societal expectations. The illusion of who she longs to be is overshadowed by her need to laugh off the heartaches and mask her true identity. She attempts to cover the duller elements of her personality and never turns to a higher power for assistance, as is characteristic of a dark comic protagonist. Her speech in Act II referenced above shows signs of a dark comic protagonist who clears his throats and scratches her nose (Styan, The Dark 275). She will never emerge as a hero, or as Guthke s tenet suggests, be able to clear her pain stricken conscience (162). She attempts to do so by adopting a baby, however, but it is clear to the spectator that the question of happiness will remain unanswered for Heidi: SCOOP. But now. Right now. ... • 29. How Does The Author Use Time In The Great Gatsby Epistemic... Time is essential to living in the universe. Time is the idea that with every second that passes, will be unique. In The Great Gatsby, Nick is an epistemic narrator. This means that he is flashing back to this time in his life where he lived in West Egg and had a neighbor by the name of Gatsby. This novel also withholds the characteristics of Gatsby s axiological narrative. Both of these narrative modalities are critical to the reader and further understanding of the novel. Nick is an epistemic narrator which means he is reflecting on a certain situation. An epistemic narrative can sometimes seem to create a mystery in how it s written. The key to an epistemic narrator is a sustained, communal acquisition of knowledge not associated with a time variable. Throughout this novel we are getting short pieces of the story marked through time. At nine o clock one morning late in July... (Ch 4. Pg 63). And Nick does this again in chapter five when he states Two o clock and the whole corner of the peninsula was blazing with light... (Ch 5. Pg 81). In both of these instances he sets the scene with a certain time he remembers. Rubashov s beliefs mimic Bukharin s unyielding stance on communist principles and party policies. Bukharin says, I know all too well that great plans, great ideas and great interests take precedence over everything, and I know that it would be petty for me to place the question of my own person on a par with the universal historical tasks resting, first and foremost, on your shoulders. In these two men, the realization is that the party is the ultimate goal, individual people can be wrong but the Communist party can never be mistaken. In discussion section 306 Joe mentioned that the Ford Motor Company is one of PBS big corporate sponsors (2016). The very definition of public television is that the content is publicly funded; whether through government grants, or public donations. A corporation stepping in to supply funding ruins the sanctity of the public broadcasting, by taking the bias out of what is produced and how it is produced. If PBS is in part funded by corporations, the whole idea of a publicly funded networks is dead. PBS was created in a time where the classic broadcast archetype was the only way television got made. In the first week of class, Professor Johnson explained that the classic American network television archetype relies on corporate funding in the form of advertisement sales (2016). A certain amount of viewership of a given show, on a given night, can drive huge ad sales. The higher a show s ratings, the bigger the ad sales. Depth controls the perspective relations by depicting what planes will be in focus. There is also a director s decision to choose a selective view. It is used to focus on only one plane and the others being blurred. Selective focusing automatically makes us pay attention to one area equally visibly but not all being in sharp view. It also examines deep focus and racking focus. Deep focus is a tight shot of an object; it s a shorter lens and offers better lighting to be focused on. Attention is on several areas all being visible. Racking focus also known as pulling focus . The point of this focus is to transfers the attention from the foreground and the background.
