Home Along A Busy Road
What appears to be just another white two story home along a busy road, is a lot more than it looks. If
you slow down and take a closer look, you notice a public parking lot as well as an open sign in the
window. This is not a residence but Wilmington s Oddity / Antique store. On the corner of Marsh and
Sherwood Roads, this house is coated in wonderful shade of mature trees that line the streets as well
as the whole neighborhood. Upon closer examination, you notice this is the obscure but well known
Oddporium, the Gallery of the Peculiar and the Bizarre store. A two part store, with a gold dealer in
one part and the oddity store in the other. Converted from the owners former childhood home, this is
where you need to go to pick up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The owners have tried to find an explanation but to no avail. Could this have anything to do with the
two women that died from lung disease and the spirits are causing guests to feel the pain they felt right
before they died? Shadow figures seem to roam the premises and have been witnessed by patrons and
renters alike mainly in the front and rear gallery. In recent years many customers have said they have
witnessed a shadow moving behind the coffin that lies on display in one of the show rooms. The same
shadows have been seen in other rooms, in some instances, it takes the shape of a human figure. When
Ken was alerted to this phenomena, it brought back memories of when he was a child and his uncle
would take trips out of town. Ken s job as a young boy was to enter his uncle s home and turn on a
couple of lights before darkness fell. In the morning, Ken would run back across the street and turn off
the lights. The following night, he would turn on different lights. This gave the impression that
someone was home during the night time hours. Ken s memory of turning on the lights one evening
lead to him recalling a time when he was almost at his home when he glanced back to the house, and
in total horror, he witnessed a person standing in the upstairs bedroom window. This shock him to the
core as he thought there was a stranger in the house while he turned on lights. He told his parents who

The Epidemic Of Organized Crime
During the 19th century there were various issues that were occurring that launched an epidemic of
organized crime, in the United States problems with organized crime were mainly seen in a social,
political and cultural spectrum.
During the 19th century, various problems were erupting causing conflict within society, large
numbers of immigration had occurred, the majority had come from China and Ireland. When the
Chinese arrived to the United States they were mostly utilized as workers for the railroads, they were
cheap labor and they did not complain about the work. Along with Chinese immigration people in the
United States started using Opium. With the introduction of Opium, there was a spike of opium use
during this time, which can be compared to the increased use of cocaine during the 1970 s. George
Appo was one who was a chronic user of opium, he is considered by many as good fellow . A good
fellow is a criminal who considered his illegal enterprise to be an entrepreneurial craft and shared an
ethic of loyalty, male honor, and camaraderie among his fellow outlaws.
George Appo was a son too immigrants, his mother, Catherine Fitzpatrick, was an immigrant from
Ireland, she first immigrated due to the famine crisis in Ireland. George s father, Chang Quimbo Appo,
was one of the first immigrants to arrive from China. Consequently George was a racially mixed, prior
to the 1960 s mixed race were often seen as lower end of the racial class spectrum. The majority of the

San Francisco Bay Case
December 1968, two bodies of young teenagers were found at San Francisco Bay. The teenagers were
one female and one male between the ages 16 and 17. They were found dead outside of their car when
the crime scene unit arrived on the scene they examined the vehicle as well as the vicinity. All to no
avail the crime seemed to be lacking a sexual component. Investigators assumed that the young couple
were victims of robbery but that was not the case. All of their possessions including the money had
been left untouched. Basically according to investigators the couple were victims of opportunity. Six
months later in July of 1969 to couples pulled in a recreational area located 2 miles from the

oddly enough the boy friend was shot once but no where near the vital organs. As for the female she
was shot three times, significant enough to investigators. The Federal Bureau of Investigation
gradually began to construct a preliminary profile of who this person is. Two weeks after the second
attack the San Francisco newspaper received three letters from the killer himself, taunting law
enforcement. Enclosed in the envelope along with the taunt letters a piece of paper with, Greek signs,
morse code as well series of letters from the english alphabet, each letter contained one third of a
cryptogram. If the cipher was decoded according to the person writing the letters then his identity
would be revealed. No one was able to decode it, no one not even the Central Intelligence Agency.
After a lot work a High School teacher from Salinas California was able to crack it. In translation it

Race And Ethnicity And Race

Race and Ethnicity
Ethnicity and race have been used in American society to the point where both words are
indistinguishable from each other. Race is a social construct (Throop, Lecture, 10/8/2015). Race is a
social construct because race is used to differentiate the different ethnic groups from each other. Race
should not be used to separate the different ethnic groups. In American society, it is evident that
certain ethnic groups are singled out for the problems in our society. Usually those ethnic groups are
minorities. African Americans and Latinos are usually the minorities that are singled out for the
problems or benefit of the majority. In the article, Who Dat?: Race and Its Conspicuous Consumption
in Post Katrina New Orleans, Marc Perry states how African American citizens were affected by the
devastating hurricane Katrina in 2005 and how the citizens reacted before and after hurricane Katrina
to the relocation of African Americans to other places for the restructuring of New Orleans (Perry). In
a related article titled, Putting the Ninth Ward on the map: Race, Place, and Transformation in Desire,
New Orleans, Rachel Breunlin and Helen Regis state how African Americans living in New Orleans
before and after hurricane Katrina were being dislocated for the benefit of whites for the restructuring
of Post Katrina in Desire,New Orleans and caused the culture of New

Devil In The White City Themes
In the book Devil in the White City Larson s use of themes greatly impacted the flow and message of
the book. Themes such as evil, existing anywhere and everywhere in the world with those committing
these acts of evil usually hiding behind a facade of goodwill and well meaning intentions. Another
theme that was a key concept in the book, was that of delusions and the consequences of them. As the
book progressed, the characters that represent the themes delved deeper into the depths of what these
themes really represented until their whole essence is what they represented. The themes that Lason
used are independent to one another but in their extremes they morph into a similar if not just one an
over arching theme. This is the same for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is shown in the later character developments of Holmes and Prendergast where both of them are
so far gone in each of their core representations that they lose touch with themselves. Holmes started
believing he is untouchable a mastermind that he could fool anyone even god. He believes that that he
is as evil as evil can get...he is lost in his own delusions and from this he becomes sloppy and gets
caught and later pays for his crimes. I am convinced that since my imprisonment I have changed
woefully and gruesomely from what I formerly in feature and figure. . . . My head and face are
gradually assuming an elongated shape. I believe fully that I am growing to resemble the devil that the
similitude is almost completed. (385). Prendergast also turn gets so lost in his delusions that he
commits an act of evil murder and believes he is doing what is right because he believes he was
wronged. This shows how his delusions in his mind turn to real actions in the

The Poetry of E. E. Cummings Essay
The Poetry of E. E. Cummings
Is the of style e. e. cummings poetry its true genius, or the very reason the works should be called
drivel? Alfred Kazin says that the poet s style is arrogant and slap stick and that cummings is the
duality of the traditionalist and the clown (155). Others, such as Richard P. Blackmur, say his
technique is an insult to the writing profession. He says that cummings poetry would only appeal to
those with a childish spirit (140). It was Mark Van Doren, though, who probably said the truth about
cummings. He has a richly sensuous mind; his verse is distinguished by fluidity and weight; he is
equipped to range lustily and long among the major passions (140) Through examples of his work,

[W]hose only secret all creation sings is that the mother s [l]ove provides the universal rhythm . . .
despite man s attempt to change or stop the rhythm, it marks the limits on his destructive power
(Powers 237) and who knows what lies beyond.
In Buffalo Bill s cummings style not only includes line breaks, but run on and joined words as well.
His line breaks and technique of separating words is a precise and deliberate method which causes the
reader to think. Separating defunct by itself could also mean death (Dilworth 176). Using the word
Jesus in a place by itself with a long space, indicating a pause, before and after it, indicate that it is not
being used to describe Jesus Christ, but rather as an expression of amazement and awe, common in
everyday speech. Cummings, throughout this poem, uses space in order to indicate pauses, much as a
comma would do. In this poem he also uses run on and joined words to emphasize description of
Buffalo Bill. In line four of the poem cummings wrote watersmooth silver to describe the stallion in
line five. The combination of the words are referring to the fluidity and grace of the mighty stallion,
but suggest that it is a coward by describing its blood as water. This image does not coincide with the
masculinity Buffalo Bill, himself, portrayed by not acting like a coward. Silver, used in conjunction
with watersmooth, that described the stallion, Dilworth stated, could also refer to the silver haired Bill

Biography Of Jeffrey Leonard Resected A Brain Tumor
On December 23, 2014, neurosurgeon Jeffrey Leonard resected a brain tumor in a ten year old girl that
was previously thought to be inoperable. Although it took two operations, due to modern technology
and education Dr. Leonard was successful. The girl fully recovered from surgery and was awake and
responsive the next morning. Modern surgeons knowledge of the human brain has evolved immensely
through the ages. The first brain surgeons did not have anywhere near the knowledge that we possess
today, but it is because of them that the current treatment of neurological problems is so advanced.
Doctors can now perform advanced procedures such as the resection of tumors and clipping of
aneurysms all while a patient is numbed and unconscious when previously treatment was a painful
shot in the dark. Neurosurgery has evolved not only through extensive research of anatomy and a
change in religious perspective, but came hand in hand with the development of anesthetics and the
world s major advancements in radiology and imaging.
Neurosurgery is set apart from every other field because it pertains to the most important part of the
body: the brain. If a person s entire body works perfectly with the exclusion of the brain, that person
will still never be able to function normally. There is a wide variety of neurological defects that can
arise in any one of us including aneurysms, tumors, nerve damage, and strokes. (__) The sheer
fragility of our minds demands highly skilled surgeons to fix

The New Yorker s Short Story Ghosts And Empties
The July 20, 2015 edition of The New Yorker magazine, contains short story Ghosts and Empties .
The name of which drew me in. Typically when you hear such a title, you gear yourself in the
direction of a mystery, suspense, or even a thriller. I was pleasantly surprised when the story took a
different turn than I was expecting. The story follows an unnamed narrator on her nightly walks
through her neighborhood. As I read the story Ghosts and Empties , many thoughts passed through my
head. I thought of how vividly everything was portrayed, the pace at which the sentence structure
proceeded, or for much better explanation, why I chose to take the walk with the narrator. On this
walk I enjoyed the same solidity, and calmness in the stillness ... Show more content on

This is the conclusion our narrator comes to after one of her many walks. She says, It is terribly true,
even if the truth does not comfort, that if you look at the moon for long enough night after night, as I
have, you will see that the old cartoons are correct, that the moon is, in fact, laughing, but not at us, we
who are too small and our lives too fleeting for it to give us any notice at all. Life goes on. This
statement brought me to think about one of my favorite quotes. A man said to the universe: Sir, I exist!
However, replied the universe. The fact has not created in me, A sense of obligation. Stephen Crane.
The world owes me nothing. The first time I read this quote it was a slap in the face. This story
slapped me in the face for a second time. I realized I have gone most of my feeling entitled to many
major and even minor things. I live life as though I have done much to deserve things handed to me on
a golden platter rather than through hard work. While so caught up in my own world I may have
missed out on the outside. While thinking about my misfortune, I never thought once about the
moments that passed and people I have gone by. The earth keeps turning without me giving it a reward
so then why do expect one from it. The moon laughs at a joke told by Venus about Mars, and I in my
lowly human state walk on in awe of the universe. Life goes on but it is too much of a treasure to

Aphra Ben s Oroonoko and Daniel Defoe s Moll Flanders
In his Dictionary of Literary Terms, Harry Shaw defines the novel: In effective narrative literature,
fictional persons, through characterization, become so credible that they exist for the reader as real
people, he says (1). Many eighteenth century British novelists neglected to earn this credibility.
Looking specifically at Aphra Behn s Oroonoko and Daniel Defoe s Moll Flanders, Shaw s definition
becomes especially difficult to apply to Moll and Oroonoko s narrator. While the novels should not be
declared unsuccessful in their entireties, perhaps the sincerity claimed in both introductions only
lessens their overall believability.
In the opening lines of his preface, Defoe tells us, the Author is here suppos d to be writing her own
History (1). Behn makes a similar claim in his novel: I was myself an eyewitness to a great part, of
what you will find here set down, and what I could not be witness of, I received from the mouth of the
chief actor in this history, the hero himself (75). And soon the authors claims prove themselves to be
untrue with a sizeable lack of reality in their characterization. Perhaps we cannot blame the authors
themselves, but rather their time. Serving as the inventors of the realist novel, eighteenth century
writers like Aphra Behn and Daniel Defoe were without a foundation to follow and with the
development of characters that are perhaps too unique, situations idealized, and blatant claims of
truthfulness, thus fail to convince the

The Pros And Cons Of Irregular Warfare
The title 10 versus title 50 debate is a result of a battlefield that has evolved, and policy that has not.
The requirement for congressional oversight was emplaced in the early 80s due to accusations of
domestic spying by the CIA in an effort to protect American citizens. Now that DOD collection
methods are similar and often times indistinguishable from the intelligence community s methods,
they are crying foul because the DOD operates under title 10 authorities and does not share the same
stringent oversight.

where Operational Preparation of the Battlefield (OPB) is required to ensure that should conventional
military forces be deployed, they

Revenge In Heathcliff s Wuthering Heights
Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves ( Confucius ). This quote from the
Chinese philosopher Confucius poignantly illustrates the extent of the negative effects that revenge
can have on a person. Indeed, what once was a quest to destroy another quickly becomes a countdown
until one destroys oneself. Nonetheless, the need to enact vengeance is pervasive throughout society,
from the eye for an eye ( The Code of Hammurabi ) mentality of the code of Hammurabi to Internet
mob shaming. However, these pursuits of vengeance do nothing to provide any sort of moral
reconciliation: two eyes are lost instead of just one under Hammurabi s code, and Internet mob
shaming only serves to ruin people s lives instead of combating real ... Show more content on

Hhhhh In addition, the genial atmosphere at Wuthering Heights that results due to Heathcliff s
decision to give up his pursuit of revenge demonstrates that letting go of cruelty allows for happiness
to take root. Throughout most of the book, Heathcliff is the main source of havoc and misery. Even
when his foster father, who has taken him out of poverty, is dying, Heathcliff uses the opportunity to
manipulate Hindley into doing what he wants, demonstrating a lack of care for others and a
fundamentally selfish nature. Heathcliff s treatment of Linton and Hareton also demonstrate his
selfishness. Heathcliff reduces the former to a pawn, comparing Linton to tin polished to ape a service
of silver (Brontё 185). It is heavily implied that Heathcliff even abuses and manipulates Linton, as the
latter is extremely unwilling to return to Wuthering Heights without the younger Catherine; he says
that he is not to re enter it [Wuthering Heights] without [her] (Brontё 226). Heathcliff s abuse and
neglect of Linton culminate their effects in the latter s death, and the cycle of misery inflicted by

Evaluation Of A Chemical Substance
Spectrophotometry is an analytical method that measures how much a chemical substance is able to
absorb light by measuring the light s intensity as it passes through a specified sample.3 Given certain
wavelengths, the amount of a certain substance in a solution can be determined. The device used to
measure these properties is called a spectrophotometer. This device consists of a spectrometer that
produces light of any color (wavelength), and a photometer which measures the intensity of the light.2
In this experiment serial dilutions will be performed and from this, calibration curves will be
produced. New solutions will be created from these dilutions and each new concentration will be
found by using the concentration and volume formula ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Four solutions with different concentrations were created with the B4 solution containing 10mL. The
C1V1=C2V2 formula was utilized again to calculate the new concentrations and the corresponding
values were recorded. Eight standard solutions were tested using a cuvette and a spectrophotometer.
Two spectra were ultimately saved, one for the Red 40 and one for the Blue 1. 3mL of a standard
solution was added to a cuvette and was prepared for data collection. Enough solution was added to
obtain viable results. The cuvette was placed in the SpectroVis accordingly. The absorbance of the
sample was recorded from 380 900nm, and the wavelength of maximum absorbency was determined
along with the absorbance at the λmax. These steps were repeated to determine the λmax and
absorbance for each of the eight standard solutions. The results were recorded and the spectrum was
saved. Part C was performed using prepared drink samples of Kool AidTM. The absorbance of each
sample was determined at the two average λmax wavelengths that were previously found in Part B.
The recorded absorbencies were made sure to fall in the respective absorbance values of the standard
solutions.
RESULTS DISCUSSION
In this experiment, the concepts of serial dilutions and the absorbency of light were explored and
analyzed. Calibration curves were also used that consisted of the λmax and absorbances of standards.
In addition, spectrophotometry was used to determine the concentrations of

Outliers, By Malcolm Gladwell
Outliers, a statistical observation that is markedly different in value from the others of the sample.
This basically states that anything that lies outside of the norm is an outlier. In the book Outliers, by
Malcolm Gladwell he focuses on the different set of skills, timing, background, and effort a successful
person needs to have in order to become successful. Unlike most books or biographies that write about
the intelligence and ambition of an individual, this book looks around the individuals, instead of
directly at them. Gladwell look at the outliers of these individuals, and determines how they have
become successful, either by their skill, their luck, their effort, and their whole background and what
lies around them. Gladwell had several ideas he had based people s successes on, one of which were
their skills. He focused on whether a person was capable of being successful in their career path. Not
just their IQ, or their ability to perform a task well, but whether their social skills were also capable or
not. Gladwell states that it is not possible to make it far alone, so he would check to see if an
individual wasn t an awkward loner who excelled in only academically. Gladwell would not only look
at SAT scores and how well they did in school, but look at how creative or innovative an individual
was. Another concept that Gladwell looked at was the timing of their birth, or the importance of their
birth. Gladwell was able to look at the trends and how well one was

Jesus Kick Off His Sermon With The Beatitudes Analysis
Kicking off His sermon with the Beatitudes, Jesus seeks to illustrate the necessary attitudes for life
within the kingdom of God. These types of behaviors are generally perceived as unconventional. Yet,
all nine of the Beatitudes share two common attributes: dependence upon God and trust in Him.
Starting His sermon this way would have been Jesus way of quickly dispelling the typical views held
by the Jews of His day. Frequently, Jews in the first century wouldn t have considered the aspects
detailed in the Beatitudes as being important or weighty matters. As Jesus intention is to correct the
misinterpretations propagated by the Pharisees and Sadducees, it makes sense that He would
commence His teachings with these blessed are they statements. ... Show more content on

Jesus in His final beatitude (cf. Matt. 5:11 12) instructs that those who suffer for the sake of
righteousness are blessed and shall inherit the kingdom. Contrary to contemporary views on
persecutions, Jesus is specifically referencing sufferings endured from religious people for religious
reasons. This beatitude exemplifies the idea of unconventional thought processes in the kingdom.
Rather than revile and slander their persecutors, Jesus teaches that they should rejoice and be
exceedingly glad (cf. Matt. 5:12a). Fighting back lends itself to being incorrect or undedicated;
remaining passive, on the other hand, shows a great deal of courage and contentment which would

One third of the soldiers were drafted, and two thirds of the soldiers were volunteers ( Vietnam War

ninety percent of the women were army nurses ( Women in the Vietnam War ). The American soldiers
had arrived in Vietnam with equipment that wasn t well suited to deal with the brutal jungle climates
of Vietnam. Soldiers, before being shipped out, received standard gear: steel helmets, cotton uniforms,
later nylon uniforms, M 16 rifles, anti personnel fragmentation grenades, claymore anti personnel

soldiers in order for their equipment to be more effective when combating the terrain. According to
Weapons of War , the soldiers had problems with essentially all of their gear. The helmets were
extremely weighty and sweltering, and were often abandoned in favor of floppy, fabric hats. The
cotton uniforms deteriorated in the Vietnam climate. The military tried to fix this problem by
developing clothing that was made with ripstop nylon. However, the solution didn t have the outcome

1900s Film History
Film has revolutionized the world as we know it. In the current day and age film is quite advanced.
You can watch movies with special effects and insane resolution there were never thought possible
before. But film has not always been this way. Over the decades since around the 1900s when the first
film was made there been amazing advances in technology and in acting. An examination of the past
hundred or so years will show the amazing advances film has taken to come to what we know of it
today.
The first place to look when you are looking into the history of film is the 1900s. The 1900s to 1910 is
when the very first film machine was invented and used for the first time. The early technology of film
was invented by and demonstrated by Raoul Gromain sanson. Raoul presented his Cineorama system
in the early 1900s. Cineorama featured an enormous panoramic screen, onto which were projected ten

Mathematics Has Become A Part Of Our Life
ABSTRACT: Mathematics has become part of our life. Graph Theory is a branch of mathematics that
plays a major role in every field of human being. In this paper we define different matrices associated
with the Graphs along with some properties of a graph. And Rank of rank of an incidence matrix. Key
Words: Adjacency matrix, Incidence matrix, Degree matrix, Circuit matrix and Line graph.
INTRODUCTION: Incidence Matrix is one of methods of representing the graph. Let G = (V,E) be
graph whose vertices and edges are labeled as v_1,v_2,........v_n and e_1,e_2,........e_m. An incidence
matrix B associated with graph G of order n×m is defined by b_ij={█(1 if v_i is incident with e_j@0
Otherwise )┤ [4] The graph and its incidence matrix are shown as follows: The incidence matrix
contains only two elements 0 and 1. Such a matrix is called a binary matrix or (0 1) matrix. For a
given any geometric representation of a graph without self loops we can easily write its corresponding
incidence matrix. On the other hand if we were given an incidence matrix B we can construct a graph
without any difficulty. The graph and its incidence matrix are simply two alternative ways of
representing the same graph. [1] PROPERTIES: Some observations of incidence matrix and it s graph.
Since every edge is incident on exactly two

Quinceañera Research Paper
According to Mexican tradition, your daughter s 15th birthday, or Quinceañera, symbolizes the date
she evolves from childhood and becomes a young lady. This is a momentous occasion, similar to the
coming out party in other cultures; both signify the young lady is eligible for marriage. When it comes
time to plan your Quince girl s rite of passage, it s a good idea to make Quinceañera limousine rentals
a priority. Be mindful of the Latino custom where family and dear friends help defray Quinceañera
expenses. For example: the Padrino de limosina handles the Quinceañera limo rental and associated
costs. However, as the parent, you have diligently worked to keep your daughter safe all of her life.
So, you will likely want to tag along to any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ensure you engage a service, which guarantees to please. It is important to compare the number of
passengers vs. vehicle capacity. For example, are you seeking a Quinceañera limo rental that will
accommodate the 14 Damas (women attendants) and the Quince girl? Or, will you also include the
Chambelanos (15 guy escorts)? The passenger count will determine what size limousine to consider or
whether it will be necessary to secure two Quinceañera limousine rentals. You may not be aware that
limo service is at a premium during prom season and on Saturday nights. Couples take advantage of
events such as wine tastings on Saturdays. However, Sundays are low demand days. By holding the
celebration on Sunday, you may receive a discount. At any rate, it s something to think about. Your
little princess will want to make a grander grand entrance to her Quinceañera than any of her friends.
She has likely described her perfect limousine in detail. The Cadillac Escalade is trending this year. It
s luxurious both outside and inside. This exquisite limo will help your Quince make a spectacular
grand entrance. Also, consider the Lincoln Stretch limo. Your daughter will tingle with excitement
while riding in this top of the line

Pet Adoption
Pet Adoption
Many people have different thoughts on adoption. Such as why adoption is a good thing not only for
the animal but also the owner, if each dog deserves a second chance, and if there should be kill
shelters.
Adoption is good for both the animal and the owner, by adopting an animal is gives them a new home
that they deserve. Adoption gives the owner a sense of what the animal has gone through, which
sometimes helps understand the way the animal may act and can help find ways to train them.
Adoption gives the animal a new start and a family that will love them no matter what. It can also help
a family come together in hard times and help each other get through it.
I believe that every animal deservers a second chance. It s not

Similarities And Differences Between Septimus And Clarissa
In Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway, Clarissa Dalloway and Septimus Warren Smith are perceived as
completely different people, but as one looks deeper, their characters become hard to differentiate
from one another. While Septimus is a young, male, middle class veteran suffering from post
traumatic stress disorder, Clarissa is an older woman in the upper class who enjoys throwing parties.
However, as the day continues one can see these two characters share more in common than
previously determined. All in all, Clarissa and Septimus are an unlikely pair of characters to relate to
each other, but the two are more alike than different. Clarissa and Septimus both feel trapped in their
lives and oppressed by the people around them, which leads to them find ways in which they can
escape the negative world around them. Clarissa is described to the reader as having a perpetual sense,
as she watched the taxi cabs, of being out, out, far out to sea and alone; she always had the feeling that
it was very dangerous to live even one day (Woolf, 17). Even as Clarissa walks down a crowded street
the sense of loneliness controls her mind. Societal oppression of loneliness makes her feel distant from
the rest of society. She describes herself as, no longer being Clarissa, but simply Mrs. Dalloway
(Woolf, 11). Clarissa has lost a sense of herself and feels as though she no longer fits in. However, her
parties serve as an escape from the outside world, which helps to explain why she loves

Earth Sets A Temperature Record For The Third Straight Year
Global Warming
Global warming has been a conversation holder for the past decade or so. Years ago people believed
that global warming was a myth, and was not going to happen. Now for the third year in a row
temperatures are becoming warmer and warmer. Scientists are becoming more alert to the steady pace
of earth s temperatures rising. In the article Earth Sets a Temperature Record for the Third Straight
Year by Justin Gillis, he explains that earth is casually becoming warmer every single year. After
reading Gillis s article I would strongly agree with him, I believe his article gives concrete evidence
that earth is warming up, and could potentially cause many problems. Global warming is happening
and will eventually cause extinction, rise in sea level, and effects on weather.

potentially become extinct in the near future. Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Global warming is happening now, and will keep on happening until we choose to stop it. The future

The Is A Severe Disorder
Prosopagnosia is a severe disorder which the person cannot recognize recognizable people from the
face. Prosopagnosia is also known as face blindness. Face blindness is a recognized disorder; it can
vary from person to person and situation to situation. It is not an issue with vision or absent
mindedness. People with prosopagnosia have trouble with physical recognition. Recognition and
memory are different. Memory is the thoughts, opinions and past experiences that is in our mind. The
face is the key to accessing the memory of the person. We may forget someone here and there, but that
s not a big deal. People with prosopagnosia forget often and could even forget their family. While
some people have a very selective impairment that only influences the recognition of faces, others find
have the disorder that extends to the recognition of other stimuli, such as objects, cars, or animals.
Many people also report deficits in other aspects of face processing, such as judging age or gender,
recognizing certain emotional expressions, or following the direction of a person s eye gaze. Finally, a
substantial proportion of prosopagnosics reports navigational difficulties. (Sarah Bate 2015)
The sensation is the process by which our sensory receptors and nervous system receive and represent
stimulus energies from our environment. Perception is the process or organizing and interpreting
sensory information, enabling us to recognize meaningful objects and events. Organisms

Shepard Fairey, The Artist Behind The Barack Obama...
Shepard Fairey, the artist behind the Barack Obama presidential election Hope poster, chose a
photograph as an aid to achieving an ideal pose, that was taken by an Associated Press, AP,
photographer, Mannie Garcia. This led to a controversy as Fairey used an image he did not own for his
personal artwork. This leads to the question of whether illustrators and artists should be allowed to use
photographs under the copyright Fair Use clause without having to ask permission or pay royalties to
the original artist or copyright holder.
Shepard Fairey is an American contemporary graphic designer, street artist, illustrator and founder of
the OBEY Clothing company. In 1988 he graduated from Idyllwild Arts Academy in Palm Springs,
California. Fairey realized his interest in art while working at a skateboard shop where he proceeded
to post his homemade stickers. From there, he moved into the street art culture and graffiti movement
where he became interested in stencils. While receiving his Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Rhode Island
School of Design (RISDI), Fairey became known for his Andre the Giant Has a Posse sticker
campaign for OBEY. However, his fame sprouted during the 2008 U.S. presidential election when he
created Barack Obama s Hope poster, which sparked controversy. Some of his other works which
combine elements of graffiti, pop art, business art, and Marxist Theory have been shown at The

ABSTRACT
The observed reaction that took place in this experiment was the de esterification of ethyl benzoate to
form benzoic acid. This experiment was used to determine the rate constant k of the synthesis of
benzoic acid at different temperatures and ethanol concentrations. The reaction was carried out in a
batch reactor, where ethyl benzoate was added to a mixture of water, ethanol, and sodium hydroxide.

A Comparison Between William Wordsworth s Upon Westminster...
A Comparison Between William Wordsworth s Upon Westminster Bridge and William Blake s
London
The English Romantic period spanned between 1789 and 1824. This period was not so called until the
mid 19th century when readers began to see six different poets as part of the same movement. These
poets were William Blake, William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Lord Byron, Percy Shelly
and John Keats.
Some aspects of Romantic poetry were; there was an increasing interest in nature; there was an
increased interest in landscape and scenery; human moods were connected to the moods of nature.
Although the six poets cohered to create the English Romantic movement they were all extremely

In Upon Westminster Bridge, Wordsworth uses the format of a Petrarchan sonnet whereas in London,
William Blake uses the format of long hymnal measure.
It is clear that this poem is a sonnet because it has fourteen lines and ten syllables in each line. In
Upon Westminster Bridge the rhyme scheme is abbaabba cdcdcd and is split up into an octave and
then a sestet and this means that is a Petrarchan sonnet. If you take a closer look at the poem you will
notice that the octave and the sestet are simply two whole sentences. This helps to maintain the
flowing rhythm of the poem and better defines the difference between the octave and sestet. In this
form the subject is projected and developed in the octave and then the sestet must release the tension
which has been built up. The point at which I think the tension is released is in the final two lines.
Dear God! The very houses seem asleep;
And all that mighty heart is lying still!
Wordsworth added this final couplet in order to get the epigrammatic effect which is characteristic of
the Shakespearean sonnet which is a sonnet that contains three quatrains and a couplet.
In London, long hymnal measure is used. It has a rhyme scheme of abab which helps to maintain a
steady rhythm and pace throughout the poem.
Upon Westminster Bridge tries to give an image of the scene whereas

Another AFV energy source is methanol, a type of alcohol. Methanol can be produced from a variety
of sources such as coal or natural gas, natural gas being the least costly source. The overall effect of
import dependency is relatively the same as that of LNG. Denatured alcohol, or ethanol, can be made
from corn and other biomass products. The supply within the United States is very limited at best and
foreign supply would be required to fill the demands if ethanol AFV numbers increase. Ethanol is used
to reformulate gasoline in California as a substitute for the recent reversal of state guidelines to add
Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE) to gasoline. The total demand within California requires
approximately 10% of all ethanol consumed must be imported. Increased demand will increase the
need for importation due to California and the United States current production capacity levels. No
new ethanol production plants are scheduled for construction at this time therefore guaranteeing the
import demands.
Hydrogen, as an energy source for AFV can be used in the form of either an internal combustion
engine or a fuel cell where hydrogen is mixed with oxygen to produce electrical power. Current
experimentation, testing and development are in process from all major automotive manufacturers in
North America, Europe and Japan. There is no infrastructure for the refueling of hydrogen powered
vehicles, nor are any readily available hydrogen powered vehicles being produced for

Three Perspectives On Social Support
There are various social support approaches from which to draw from, for the purpose of this paper, I
will adopt and briefly introduce the three social support perspectives on social support research
outlined by Lakey and Cohen (Cohen, Underwood Gottlieb, 2000, p. 29). The three perspectives on
social support are the (a) stress and coping perspective, (b) the social constructionist perspective and
(b) the relationship perspective (Lakey Cohen, 2000). The first perspective suggests that social support
acts as a buffer for the effect of stress (Cohen, Underwood Gottlieb, 2000). The second proposes that
our health is influenced by confidence in oneself, which is a consequent of social support (Cohen,
Underwood Gottlieb, 2000). The third perspective however focuses on the foundations of
relationships built within social support systems and how the relationships are also considered to have
an effect on health (Cohen, Underwood Gottlieb, 2000). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Anabolic Steroids And Its Effects On The Brain
Brief History Anabolic steroids are directly related to steroids, and both have similar effects, however
anabolic steroids intensify protein production in cells, leading to enlarged muscles, rather steroids
contain various hormones including testosterone. Both, however exert the chemical dopamine into the
blood stream, negatively effecting the brain driving addiction and abuse. The steps and action
foreshadowing steroids can be traced back to 1849, when a German scientist named Arnold Adolph
Berthold conducted tests and experiments on Cockerels, concluding that their male testicles contain
the necessary factors that make them male. This revelation may not attribute to the direct creation of
anabolic steroids, however it casts a light towards understanding anabolic steroids and must not be
dismissed. With the cooperation of Berthold s discovery, a German chemist Adolf Butenandt was able
to purify and extract testosterone from urine. With the collaboration of a fellow German chemist
Leopold Ruziicka, they were able to create a synthetic form of testosterone safe for human use in
1935. Their discovery received international acclaim and they were rewarded the 1939 Nobel Prize for
their work in chemistry. The initial intent of steroids was to help treat men who had growth and
development deficiencies. When World War II broke out steroids were used to help malnourished
soldiers gain weight and increase performance. After the war, steroids were being extensively abused

Voltaire s Theory Of Optimism
Candide, published in 1759 by Voltaire, is a satirical novella criticizing the type of European
Civilization Voltaire grew up around. Voltaire is known for his literary works mocking the time period
he lived in, especially when it came to their religious beliefs and the aristocracy he was surrounded
with. Due to Voltaire s experiences in Paris with European Society, Candide showcases his contempt
for organized religion, noble rank, and optimist philosophy.
Candide, the illegitimate son of a Baron s sister, lives in the Baron s castle, studying under the
philosopher Pangloss. Pangloss teaches Candide his theory of optimism, keeping Candide innocent to
the world beyond the castle. He thinks that the castle is the best castle there is, and that everything
happens for a good reason, a belief that Pangloss has instilled in him. Cunégonde, the Baron s
daughter, has caught the eye of Candide, and when they are found in a compromising romantic
position, he is tossed out of the Castle. From there, Candide sets out on many adventures, most having
unfortunate ends, giving Candide a taste of the reality he never got from castle life and studying under
Pangloss. He first enlists as a soldier, but is soon flogged for being a deserter. He escapes to Holland
where he is taken in by a kind Anabaptist, and discovers Pangloss as a deformed beggar who has
contracted syphilis. As optimistic as ever, Pangloss informs Candide that the baron and his family,
including Cunégonde have been murdered

America Land The Doers Analysis
When a butterfly flaps its wings, it is said that a hurricane can form as a result. Of course, we do not
see the hurricane that comes much later we simply see a butterfly going about its business. How can a
butterfly accomplish such a monumental feat and could a human do it too? Well, as with all actions, it
requires energy. In a recent commercial by Chevron, it is implied that oil is the source of energy for
human doers. Filled with images of patriotism, inventions, and all the wonders of mankind s
advancement, Chevron shows all the positive accomplishments doers can do. What it does not show,
however, is the resulting hurricane. Chevron s fallacious commercial about doers is an example of
stacking the deck as it only portrays one standpoint and does not list any alternatives. ... Show more

with a heavy dose of pathos. What could possibly be more thought invoking than the first lunar
landing and growth of America? Chevron has had little involvement with these accomplishments, yet
by filling their commercial with these images, it would seem as though they too were a part of
America in the making. This manipulation of logos makes viewers associate Chevron s history with
America s history and think nothing of their actual operations. They barely list any of their own
contributions and even more importantly, fail to list the

  • 2. Home Along A Busy Road What appears to be just another white two story home along a busy road, is a lot more than it looks. If you slow down and take a closer look, you notice a public parking lot as well as an open sign in the window. This is not a residence but Wilmington s Oddity / Antique store. On the corner of Marsh and Sherwood Roads, this house is coated in wonderful shade of mature trees that line the streets as well as the whole neighborhood. Upon closer examination, you notice this is the obscure but well known Oddporium, the Gallery of the Peculiar and the Bizarre store. A two part store, with a gold dealer in one part and the oddity store in the other. Converted from the owners former childhood home, this is where you need to go to pick up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The owners have tried to find an explanation but to no avail. Could this have anything to do with the two women that died from lung disease and the spirits are causing guests to feel the pain they felt right before they died? Shadow figures seem to roam the premises and have been witnessed by patrons and renters alike mainly in the front and rear gallery. In recent years many customers have said they have witnessed a shadow moving behind the coffin that lies on display in one of the show rooms. The same shadows have been seen in other rooms, in some instances, it takes the shape of a human figure. When Ken was alerted to this phenomena, it brought back memories of when he was a child and his uncle would take trips out of town. Ken s job as a young boy was to enter his uncle s home and turn on a couple of lights before darkness fell. In the morning, Ken would run back across the street and turn off the lights. The following night, he would turn on different lights. This gave the impression that someone was home during the night time hours. Ken s memory of turning on the lights one evening lead to him recalling a time when he was almost at his home when he glanced back to the house, and in total horror, he witnessed a person standing in the upstairs bedroom window. This shock him to the core as he thought there was a stranger in the house while he turned on lights. He told his parents who later told him ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Epidemic Of Organized Crime During the 19th century there were various issues that were occurring that launched an epidemic of organized crime, in the United States problems with organized crime were mainly seen in a social, political and cultural spectrum. During the 19th century, various problems were erupting causing conflict within society, large numbers of immigration had occurred, the majority had come from China and Ireland. When the Chinese arrived to the United States they were mostly utilized as workers for the railroads, they were cheap labor and they did not complain about the work. Along with Chinese immigration people in the United States started using Opium. With the introduction of Opium, there was a spike of opium use during this time, which can be compared to the increased use of cocaine during the 1970 s. George Appo was one who was a chronic user of opium, he is considered by many as good fellow . A good fellow is a criminal who considered his illegal enterprise to be an entrepreneurial craft and shared an ethic of loyalty, male honor, and camaraderie among his fellow outlaws. George Appo was a son too immigrants, his mother, Catherine Fitzpatrick, was an immigrant from Ireland, she first immigrated due to the famine crisis in Ireland. • 4. San Francisco Bay Case December 1968, two bodies of young teenagers were found at San Francisco Bay. The teenagers were one female and one male between the ages 16 and 17. They were found dead outside of their car when the crime scene unit arrived on the scene they examined the vehicle as well as the vicinity. All to no avail the crime seemed to be lacking a sexual component. Investigators assumed that the young couple were victims of robbery but that was not the case. All of their possessions including the money had been left untouched. Basically according to investigators the couple were victims of opportunity. Six months later in July of 1969 to couples pulled in a recreational area located 2 miles from the December killings in 1968 in Vallejo California. According ... • 5. Race And Ethnicity And Race Zamarripa 1 Marcos Zamarripa Anthropology 9: Society and Culture October 27, 2015 Race and Ethnicity Ethnicity and race have been used in American society to the point where both words are indistinguishable from each other. Race is a social construct (Throop, Lecture, 10/8/2015). Race is a social construct because race is used to differentiate the different ethnic groups from each other. Race should not be used to separate the different ethnic groups. In American society, it is evident that certain ethnic groups are singled out for the problems in our society. Usually those ethnic groups are minorities. African Americans and Latinos are usually the minorities that are singled out for the problems or benefit of the majority. In the article, Who Dat?: Race and Its Conspicuous Consumption in Post Katrina New Orleans, Marc Perry states how African American citizens were affected by the devastating hurricane Katrina in 2005 and how the citizens reacted before and after hurricane Katrina to the relocation of African Americans to other places for the restructuring of New Orleans (Perry). In a related article titled, Putting the Ninth Ward on the map: Race, Place, and Transformation in Desire, New Orleans, Rachel Breunlin and Helen Regis state how African Americans living in New Orleans before and after hurricane Katrina were being dislocated for the benefit of whites for the restructuring of Post Katrina in Desire,New Orleans and caused the culture of New ... • 6. Devil In The White City Themes In the book Devil in the White City Larson s use of themes greatly impacted the flow and message of the book. Themes such as evil, existing anywhere and everywhere in the world with those committing these acts of evil usually hiding behind a facade of goodwill and well meaning intentions. Another theme that was a key concept in the book, was that of delusions and the consequences of them. As the book progressed, the characters that represent the themes delved deeper into the depths of what these themes really represented until their whole essence is what they represented. The themes that Lason used are independent to one another but in their extremes they morph into a similar if not just one an over arching theme. This is the same for ... I am convinced that since my imprisonment I have changed woefully and gruesomely from what I formerly in feature and figure. . . . My head and face are gradually assuming an elongated shape. I believe fully that I am growing to resemble the devil that the similitude is almost completed. (385). • 7. The Poetry of E. E. Cummings Essay The Poetry of E. E. Cummings Is the of style e. e. cummings poetry its true genius, or the very reason the works should be called drivel? Alfred Kazin says that the poet s style is arrogant and slap stick and that cummings is the duality of the traditionalist and the clown (155). Others, such as Richard P. Blackmur, say his technique is an insult to the writing profession. He says that cummings poetry would only appeal to those with a childish spirit (140). It was Mark Van Doren, though, who probably said the truth about cummings. He has a richly sensuous mind; his verse is distinguished by fluidity and weight; he is equipped to range lustily and long among the major passions (140) Through examples of his work, from spiralling ... [W]hose only secret all creation sings is that the mother s [l]ove provides the universal rhythm . . . despite man s attempt to change or stop the rhythm, it marks the limits on his destructive power (Powers 237) and who knows what lies beyond. In Buffalo Bill s cummings style not only includes line breaks, but run on and joined words as well. His line breaks and technique of separating words is a precise and deliberate method which causes the reader to think. Separating defunct by itself could also mean death (Dilworth 176). Using the word Jesus in a place by itself with a long space, indicating a pause, before and after it, indicate that it is not being used to describe Jesus Christ, but rather as an expression of amazement and awe, common in everyday speech. Cummings, throughout this poem, uses space in order to indicate pauses, much as a comma would do. In this poem he also uses run on and joined words to emphasize description of Buffalo Bill. In line four of the poem cummings wrote watersmooth silver to describe the stallion in line five. The combination of the words are referring to the fluidity and grace of the mighty stallion, but suggest that it is a coward by describing its blood as water. This image does not coincide with the masculinity Buffalo Bill, himself, portrayed by not acting like a coward. Silver, used in conjunction with watersmooth, that described the stallion, Dilworth stated, could also refer to the silver haired Bill ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Biography Of Jeffrey Leonard Resected A Brain Tumor On December 23, 2014, neurosurgeon Jeffrey Leonard resected a brain tumor in a ten year old girl that was previously thought to be inoperable. Although it took two operations, due to modern technology and education Dr. Leonard was successful. The girl fully recovered from surgery and was awake and responsive the next morning. Modern surgeons knowledge of the human brain has evolved immensely through the ages. The first brain surgeons did not have anywhere near the knowledge that we possess today, but it is because of them that the current treatment of neurological problems is so advanced. Doctors can now perform advanced procedures such as the resection of tumors and clipping of aneurysms all while a patient is numbed and unconscious when previously treatment was a painful shot in the dark. Neurosurgery has evolved not only through extensive research of anatomy and a change in religious perspective, but came hand in hand with the development of anesthetics and the world s major advancements in radiology and imaging. Neurosurgery is set apart from every other field because it pertains to the most important part of the body: the brain. If a person s entire body works perfectly with the exclusion of the brain, that person will still never be able to function normally. There is a wide variety of neurological defects that can arise in any one of us including aneurysms, tumors, nerve damage, and strokes. • 9. The New Yorker s Short Story Ghosts And Empties The July 20, 2015 edition of The New Yorker magazine, contains short story Ghosts and Empties . The name of which drew me in. Typically when you hear such a title, you gear yourself in the direction of a mystery, suspense, or even a thriller. I was pleasantly surprised when the story took a different turn than I was expecting. The story follows an unnamed narrator on her nightly walks through her neighborhood. As I read the story Ghosts and Empties , many thoughts passed through my head. I thought of how vividly everything was portrayed, the pace at which the sentence structure proceeded, or for much better explanation, why I chose to take the walk with the narrator. On this walk I enjoyed the same solidity, and calmness in the stillness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the conclusion our narrator comes to after one of her many walks. She says, It is terribly true, even if the truth does not comfort, that if you look at the moon for long enough night after night, as I have, you will see that the old cartoons are correct, that the moon is, in fact, laughing, but not at us, we who are too small and our lives too fleeting for it to give us any notice at all. Life goes on. This statement brought me to think about one of my favorite quotes. A man said to the universe: Sir, I exist! However, replied the universe. The fact has not created in me, A sense of obligation. Stephen Crane. The world owes me nothing. The first time I read this quote it was a slap in the face. This story slapped me in the face for a second time. I realized I have gone most of my feeling entitled to many major and even minor things. I live life as though I have done much to deserve things handed to me on a golden platter rather than through hard work. While so caught up in my own world I may have missed out on the outside. While thinking about my misfortune, I never thought once about the moments that passed and people I have gone by. The earth keeps turning without me giving it a reward so then why do expect one from it. The moon laughs at a joke told by Venus about Mars, and I in my lowly human state walk on in awe of the universe. Life goes on but it is too much of a treasure to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Aphra Ben s Oroonoko and Daniel Defoe s Moll Flanders In his Dictionary of Literary Terms, Harry Shaw defines the novel: In effective narrative literature, fictional persons, through characterization, become so credible that they exist for the reader as real people, he says (1). Many eighteenth century British novelists neglected to earn this credibility. Looking specifically at Aphra Behn s Oroonoko and Daniel Defoe s Moll Flanders, Shaw s definition becomes especially difficult to apply to Moll and Oroonoko s narrator. While the novels should not be declared unsuccessful in their entireties, perhaps the sincerity claimed in both introductions only lessens their overall believability. In the opening lines of his preface, Defoe tells us, the Author is here suppos d to be writing her own History (1). Behn makes a similar claim in his novel: I was myself an eyewitness to a great part, of what you will find here set down, and what I could not be witness of, I received from the mouth of the chief actor in this history, the hero himself (75). And soon the authors claims prove themselves to be untrue with a sizeable lack of reality in their characterization. Perhaps we cannot blame the authors themselves, but rather their time. Serving as the inventors of the realist novel, eighteenth century writers like Aphra Behn and Daniel Defoe were without a foundation to follow and with the development of characters that are perhaps too unique, situations idealized, and blatant claims of truthfulness, thus fail to convince the ... The requirement for congressional oversight was emplaced in the early 80s due to accusations of domestic spying by the CIA in an effort to protect American citizens. Now that DOD collection methods are similar and often times indistinguishable from the intelligence community s methods, they are crying foul because the DOD operates under title 10 authorities and does not share the same stringent oversight. • 13. Revenge In Heathcliff s Wuthering Heights Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves ( Confucius ). This quote from the Chinese philosopher Confucius poignantly illustrates the extent of the negative effects that revenge can have on a person. Indeed, what once was a quest to destroy another quickly becomes a countdown until one destroys oneself. Nonetheless, the need to enact vengeance is pervasive throughout society, from the eye for an eye ( The Code of Hammurabi ) mentality of the code of Hammurabi to Internet mob shaming. However, these pursuits of vengeance do nothing to provide any sort of moral reconciliation: two eyes are lost instead of just one under Hammurabi s code, and Internet mob shaming only serves to ruin people s lives instead of combating real ... Hhhhh In addition, the genial atmosphere at Wuthering Heights that results due to Heathcliff s decision to give up his pursuit of revenge demonstrates that letting go of cruelty allows for happiness to take root. Throughout most of the book, Heathcliff is the main source of havoc and misery. Even when his foster father, who has taken him out of poverty, is dying, Heathcliff uses the opportunity to manipulate Hindley into doing what he wants, demonstrating a lack of care for others and a fundamentally selfish nature. Heathcliff s treatment of Linton and Hareton also demonstrate his selfishness. Heathcliff reduces the former to a pawn, comparing Linton to tin polished to ape a service of silver (Brontё 185). Evaluation Of A Chemical Substance Spectrophotometry is an analytical method that measures how much a chemical substance is able to absorb light by measuring the light s intensity as it passes through a specified sample.3 Given certain wavelengths, the amount of a certain substance in a solution can be determined. The device used to measure these properties is called a spectrophotometer. This device consists of a spectrometer that produces light of any color (wavelength), and a photometer which measures the intensity of the light.2 In this experiment serial dilutions will be performed and from this, calibration curves will be produced. New solutions will be created from these dilutions and each new concentration will be found by using the concentration and volume formula ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Four solutions with different concentrations were created with the B4 solution containing 10mL. The C1V1=C2V2 formula was utilized again to calculate the new concentrations and the corresponding values were recorded. Eight standard solutions were tested using a cuvette and a spectrophotometer. Two spectra were ultimately saved, one for the Red 40 and one for the Blue 1. 3mL of a standard solution was added to a cuvette and was prepared for data collection. Enough solution was added to obtain viable results. The cuvette was placed in the SpectroVis accordingly. The absorbance of the sample was recorded from 380 900nm, and the wavelength of maximum absorbency was determined along with the absorbance at the λmax. These steps were repeated to determine the λmax and absorbance for each of the eight standard solutions. The results were recorded and the spectrum was saved. Part C was performed using prepared drink samples of Kool AidTM. The absorbance of each sample was determined at the two average λmax wavelengths that were previously found in Part B. The recorded absorbencies were made sure to fall in the respective absorbance values of the standard solutions. RESULTS DISCUSSION In this experiment, the concepts of serial dilutions and the absorbency of light were explored and analyzed. Calibration curves were also used that consisted of the λmax and absorbances of standards. In addition, spectrophotometry was used to determine the concentrations of ... This basically states that anything that lies outside of the norm is an outlier. In the book Outliers, by Malcolm Gladwell he focuses on the different set of skills, timing, background, and effort a successful person needs to have in order to become successful. Unlike most books or biographies that write about the intelligence and ambition of an individual, this book looks around the individuals, instead of directly at them. Gladwell look at the outliers of these individuals, and determines how they have become successful, either by their skill, their luck, their effort, and their whole background and what lies around them. Gladwell had several ideas he had based people s successes on, one of which were their skills. He focused on whether a person was capable of being successful in their career path. Not just their IQ, or their ability to perform a task well, but whether their social skills were also capable or not. Gladwell states that it is not possible to make it far alone, so he would check to see if an individual wasn t an awkward loner who excelled in only academically. Gladwell would not only look at SAT scores and how well they did in school, but look at how creative or innovative an individual was. These types of behaviors are generally perceived as unconventional. Yet, all nine of the Beatitudes share two common attributes: dependence upon God and trust in Him. Starting His sermon this way would have been Jesus way of quickly dispelling the typical views held by the Jews of His day. In Upon Westminster Bridge, Wordsworth uses the format of a Petrarchan sonnet whereas in London, William Blake uses the format of long hymnal measure. It is clear that this poem is a sonnet because it has fourteen lines and ten syllables in each line. In Upon Westminster Bridge the rhyme scheme is abbaabba cdcdcd and is split up into an octave and then a sestet and this means that is a Petrarchan sonnet. If you take a closer look at the poem you will notice that the octave and the sestet are simply two whole sentences. This helps to maintain the flowing rhythm of the poem and better defines the difference between the octave and sestet. In this form the subject is projected and developed in the octave and then the sestet must release the tension which has been built up. The point at which I think the tension is released is in the final two lines. Dear God! The very houses seem asleep; And all that mighty heart is lying still! Anabolic Steroids And Its Effects On The Brain Brief History Anabolic steroids are directly related to steroids, and both have similar effects, however anabolic steroids intensify protein production in cells, leading to enlarged muscles, rather steroids contain various hormones including testosterone. Both, however exert the chemical dopamine into the blood stream, negatively effecting the brain driving addiction and abuse. The steps and action foreshadowing steroids can be traced back to 1849, when a German scientist named Arnold Adolph Berthold conducted tests and experiments on Cockerels, concluding that their male testicles contain the necessary factors that make them male. This revelation may not attribute to the direct creation of anabolic steroids, however it casts a light towards understanding anabolic steroids and must not be dismissed. With the cooperation of Berthold s discovery, a German chemist Adolf Butenandt was able to purify and extract testosterone from urine. Voltaire is known for his literary works mocking the time period he lived in, especially when it came to their religious beliefs and the aristocracy he was surrounded with. Due to Voltaire s experiences in Paris with European Society, Candide showcases his contempt for organized religion, noble rank, and optimist philosophy. Candide, the illegitimate son of a Baron s sister, lives in the Baron s castle, studying under the philosopher Pangloss. Pangloss teaches Candide his theory of optimism, keeping Candide innocent to the world beyond the castle.
