Why Learn Japanese Language Essay
Why learn the Japanese language?
Discovering the Japan s culture
Japan has developed a distinct, original and unique culture, the base of a glorious civilization.
Japanese civilization flourished and redefined a new interest and a great emotional involvement in
the arts. Traditional Japanese arts include Ikebana, origami, Ukiyo e, handicraft (dolls), poetry,
performances (bunraku, Kabuki, noh, rakugo), special traditions (games, Onsen, sento, tea
ceremony, budo, architecture, gardening, swords) and culinary arts. To properly understand them,
learning the Japanese language, it is a must.

Traditional Japanese landscapes can be divided into 3 types: Tsukiyama Gardens (hill type garden)
Karesansui Gardens (dry garden) and Chaniwa Gardens (tea garden).
Tsukiyama Gardens: ponds, hills, rocks, trees, flowers, bridges and paths are used to create a
miniature reproduction of a natural landscape that is often famous in China or Japan. The name
Tsukiyama refers to the creation of artificial hills.
Karesansui Gardens illustrate natural landscapes in a more abstract way, using stones, sand and
some paths bags for the most representative mountains, islands, rivers and seas. The gardens are
strongly influenced by Zen Buddhism and used for meditation.
Sakura and the Cherry Blossom Festival
Sakura (cherry blossom) is Japan s unofficial national flower. It is celebrated for centuries and
has a well defined place in Japanese culture. There are many varieties of cherry trees in Japan,
most blooming only for a few days in the spring. The Japanese celebrate that time of the year with
Hanami (admire the cherry blossoms) giving parties under the blooming trees. There are several
types of traditional Japanese music

Brief History on Californian Ingenuous People We have all heard the story of how America came
to be, and how Native Americans were pushed out because of this. In regards to the west coast, the
history is a bit different. There is evidence of natives living in California since from at least 17,000
BCE. Prior to contact with Europeans, the California region contained the highest native American
population north of what is now Mexico. Because of the temperate climate and easy access to food
sources, approximately one third of all Native Americans in the United States were living in
California. The Spanish began their long term occupation in California in 1769. California and its
Spanish Colonization were different from earlier efforts to simultaneously introduce missionaries
and colonists in their world conquest schemes. Organized by the driven Franciscan administrator
Junipero Serra and military authorities under Gaspar de Portola, they journeyed to San Diego to
establish the first of 21 coastal missions. The Californian missions

Anne Bradstreet s Here Follows Some Follows Upon The...
An elegy, a poem written in honor of a deceased. It mourns the death of an individual through
looking at the bright side. It can release stress because of all the emotions that could not be held in
anymore. This can be clearly portrayed in Anne Bradstreet s Here Follows Some Verses upon the
Burning of Our House and Thomas Gray s Elegy Written in Country Churchyard. Both of the
writers have feelings of depression. The writers bring up subtle comparisons between the poem and
themselves. The arising themes remain constant through spirituality. In both of the stories, there is
an identified preposition of melancholy, potential, and spirituality.
To start off with the poem Here Follows Some Verses upon the Burning of Our House, Anne
Bradstreet sets up the tone of sadness and says that she was awakened by a noise, a voice
screaming fire and how heartbreaking it was to lose her home and possessions (Elegy 178).
Bradstreet describes how her home looks after the incident. Her and her family have to start all
over again. Bradstreet feels like everything has been taken away from her and will not be able to
move on in line. She is having feelings of melancholy. Consequently, Bradstreet has an epiphany
and says, Adieu, adieu, all s vanity (Elegy 179). This means that she is saying all her possessions
are worthless. This is a turning point in Bradstreet s life that she was gifted with. She now sees
how her ambition, potential, and hope can change her future life. She had been taking

Willie Reed Racism
Thesis: The life of Willie Reed shows a different kind of truth within the Jim Crow South, the
determination of a man s soul, and his outright righteousness towards humanity. Reconstruction
defined oppression for Southern African Americans. Abolishing slavery resulted in backlash and
more intolerance to minorities. The South s image tarnished by the institution of slavery did not
alter the social confides of its representatives. African Americans gained freedom, however, their
livelihood did not change. Generations of African Americans, in the South, endured discrimination
as the white population obscured their progress. However, the popular narrative set by the elitist
whites would not endure without conflict. The life of Willie Reed shows a different kind of truth
within the Jim Crow South, the determination of a man s soul, and his righteousness towards
humanity. Paul Ortiz interviewed Mississippi native, Willie Reed, for a study on African Americans
living conditions during the Jim Crow South. Mr. Reed, a prominent African Americanman, gained
notary in Indianola, Mississippi as a self taught craftsman. His interview showcases a different light
in the culture of the Jim Crow South. A man with deep rooted religious convictions who did not
endure the typical intolerance of the white South. Mississippi portrays the typical footprint of
discrimination in the South. Once the staple of King Cotton , Mississippi embodies the accounts of
Civil Rights injustice.

Rawls Vs Norzick s Theory Essay
1.What are some important common ground, () both theorists utilize in constructing and ultimately
defending their theories?
Some important common ground both theorists utilize in constructing and defending their theories
are that both talked about justice, liberty, and equality. Both Rawls and Norzick believe that justice,
liberty, and equality would make a better society. Both talked strongly about a just society.
Rawls and Norzick tried to figure out how to create a more just society. They also believed in
moral side constraint. Lastly, they both touched on property rights.
2.By Characterizing his original position as the appropriate initial status quo what moral
sensibilities does Rawl appeal to in order to advance his theory? Please ... Show more content on

His second constraint states that they must be chosen behind a veil of ignorance. By placing the
parties behind a veil of ignorance, Rawls believes that the choice situation will nullify the effects of
specific contingencies that put men at odds. He also thinks it will tempt them to exploit social and
natural circumstances to their own advantage.
3.Norzick s entitlement theory of justice place the appeal (main argument) of the theory by looking
at two different beliefs/ behaviors in society to determine what is just. What are these two different
beliefs/behaviors? Please explain each. How do they apply to the concept of the minimal state
The entitlement theory of justice tells us that whatever arises from a just situation by just steps is
itself just. Norzick s two beliefs are absolute property ownership rights. His other belief is
redistribution rights.
Norzicks belief of property ownership rights is the right of ownership over oneself and over
things in the world. For example, in a class discussion, we talked about how if someone wanted to
give their eye to someone who needs it, they have the right to do so because they absolute property

Similarities Between Virginia And The Caribbean
During particular time periods whichever product rose to popularity, whether it be cotton, rum,
tobacco, or sugar, became the means of buying and selling or trading. Two major products that the
people of the new world depended on during the early colonial times were tobacco and sugar. Both
Virginia and the Caribbeanwere able to be successful and bloom due to these two major products.
Virginia and the Caribbean had many similarities as well as differences on how they changed
economically and socially due to tobacco and sugar plantations. John Rolfe, the father of the
tobacco industry, was the reason why tobacco made its way to America. Soon after tobacco was
perfected in both raising and curing by Rolfe, it became a popular product that... Show more content

Tobacco did not require much to process, unlike sugar that required advanced technology as
well as multiple laborers. Within a year tobacco was able to be produced, however sugar took
longer. Sugar cultivation became a business that only farmers with a lot of money could succeed
in due to the need for land and for labor to clear the fields and to run the mills. However almost
anyone could farm tobacco because it was easily planted and didn t cost as much. In Virgina,
tobacco became such a high demand that fields everywhere were used for tobacco plantations.
However farmers repeatedly used the same land over and over, ruining the soil. This limited
Virginia s fortunes to the irregular price of a single crop. The high demand for sugar in the
Caribbeans also wiped out all other forms of Caribbean agriculture. Which led to the dependence
on the north american mainland for other food supplies and basic supplies. When it comes to
tobacco and sugar plantations, both the Caribbean and Virginia were affected socially and
economically. As the plantations grew, slaves became a major factor in farming the lands. This
soon lead to the Civil War due to the differences between the free and slave states over the power of
the national government to prohibit slavery in the territories

Explain The Structure Of The Respiratory System
P6 describe the structure and function of the respiratory system
The nasal cavity (it can also be known as the nasal fossa) is a large air filled space above and
behind the nose in the middle of the face. Each cavity is the continuation of one of the two nostrils.
This picture shows us where the nasal cavity can be found in the body.
The epiglottis is a flap that is made of elastic cartilage tissue covered with a mucous membrane,
attached to the entrance of the larynx. It projects obliquely upwards behind the tongue and the
hyoid bone, pointing dorsally. There are taste buds on the epiglottis.
The image shows where the epiglottis can be found in the body.
The pharynx is an organ found in vertebrates and invertebrates. In humans the pharynx is part of the
digestive system and also of the conducting zone of the respiratory system. The conducting zone
also includes the nose, larynx, trachea, bronchi, and bronchioles, and their function is to filter,
warm, and moisten air and conduct it into the lungs. It makes up the part of the throat situated
behind the nasal cavity, and behind the mouth and superior to the esophagus and ... Show more

This refers to the process of Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide moving between the lungs and blood.
Diffusion occurs when molecules move from an area of high concentration to an area of low
concentration. This occurs during gaseous exchange as the blood in the capillaries surrounding
the alveoli has a lower oxygen concentration of Oxygen than the air in the alveoli which has just
been inhaled. Both alveoli and capillaries have walls which are only one cell thick and allow
gases to diffuse across them. The same happens with Carbon Dioxide. The blood in the
surrounding capillaries has a higher concentration of CO2 than the inspired air due to it being a
waste product of energy production. Therefore CO2 diffuses the other way, from the capillaries,
into the alveoli where it can then be

Pros And Cons Of Ration Books And The Rationing System
Ration books With the onset of WWII, the United States needed a system to savor their supplies,
so the government put in place the rationing system. They used ration books to get supplies like
meat and sugar from grocery stores, a ration book was kind of like a coupon book, you couldn t
buy a rationed item without having a ration stampfor that item (National WWII museum).
So it s like a mix of a coupon book, and a you have permission to buy this item stamp. But nothing
is perfect, not even the ration books, so here are some cons the ration books the rationing system
spawned. First, that the ration system/books spawned that was illegal was the black market,
since you could only buy something if you had a rationing stamp from a grocery store, people
sometimes needed more than they had, so the black market allowed people to buy rationed
items for a higher price, and they didn t need the ration stamp for that item (United States
History). One aspect of the rationing system was that the food wasn t very fresh, so if people
wanted some fresh vegetables they had to make their own gardens (victory gardens) and once
they did that their family could enjoy fresh food for a few months while the garden was still alive,
many people did this, there were approximately 20 million victory gardens (20,000,000) (United
States History). In addition, if you had a ration stamp for an item, it wasn t guaranteed that the store
had the item that you needed because there were a lot of

The Development And Analysis Of Microsatellite Dna Essay

THE DEVELOPMENT AND ANALYSIS OF MICROSATELLITE DNA
Summary
Due to the significant negative impact of the industrial activities on the habitat, many species have
become endangered. To conserve the species, a thorough investigation is needed. In this case, the
research is based on the study the interdependencies between the genotype and spatial dispersal of
populations.
Despite being endangered, turtles comprise rather specific object for such investigations, as well as
any other long lived organisms, because their reproduction cycles complicate the genetic
investigations using conventional methods. That is why the novel DNA markers, microsatellites,
were chosen for this research.
Although the microsatellites are very informative and universal, the overall cost for research is
higher than for RAPD and AFLP. This is mostly due to the cost of the fluorescent dye which is
used in the PCR. To eliminate this, I will apply an interesting technique which allows for
incorporation of the dye by the forward primer into the product of polymerization thus saving a
considerable amount of the dye.
Generally, I plan to base research on such steps:
Studying the populations of Apalone spinifera and Apalone mutica based on available data;
Taking samples of blood from the animals which are going to be caught by hand in their usual
habitat. The sampling will occur in the least possible harmful way;
Testing 12 pairs of primers initially developed for Apalone spinifera using the

Berger s Views On The Dialectic Character Of Society
1. I think the dialectic character of society refers to the mentality that individuals have about the
reality of the way the society is functioning. Berger mentions how this character is blind, and how
it needs to be addressed so that individuals will observe actual reality (Berger 4). Due to a variety
of cultures within society, the dialectic reality is still being disputed. Man has his own thought
process, but people are told only to believe what society has shown us. Man created society, but
society did not create man. However, man is often viewed as a product of society because this is
our everyday reality. 2. According to Berger, the three steps that constitute the process of world
building are externalization, objectivation, and internalization. Externalization is man interacting
with society being an essential step so that he can develop. Objectivation is man continuing to shape
society by developing new things in it that help shape culture, for existence: language.
Internalization is man using the structures of the objective world to help form his own thoughts and
opinions. These all maintain a stable society with a similar reality.... Show more content on

Nomos a meaningful order (Berger 19). Nomos is society establishing order for individuals.
This brings the people closer together because they are required to know the rules that they must

most individuals in society because they fear isolation. It is easier for people to belong to a

prison like box that is the cube. Along the way, they must fight to survive deadly traps using
limited resources to escape. They have no food, water, or tools. They can only use their unique
personal ability to solve the problems. The characters have no rules to guide them in escaping and
there is no one to enforce any type of rules because each character has an equality of strength. This
leads the viewer to conclude that there is a state of nature and a state of war amongst the characters.

Cuentos Del General Essay
Identification and Evaluation of Sources
This investigation analyzes the impact that Porfirio Diaz s administration had on public interest and
particularly that of the primary education system. Through Diaz s foreign expeditions and through
his involvement in governmental action, the depiction and characteristics of the primary education
system were reformed. The question that derives from this development is:
How was the Porfiriato (1876 1910) a turning point in the Mexican system of primary education?
The two sources in which the investigation bases most of its findings come from an investigation
done by Educar Fuera del Aula: Los Paseos Escolares Durante el Porfiriato (Educating Outside of

However, Diaz had an aristocratic ideology that was not well perceived by the majority of the
nation and this feeling grew more and more throughout the time of his administration. Diaz
favored the elite and foreign investors, which was also unwelcomed by public perspective.
Nevertheless there were developments within different realms. Whether those were positive or
negative developments, it is a relative matter. Diaz was especially fascinated by Europe and was
fascinated by the culture there. Vicente Riva Palacio embodies this fascination in his novel titled,
Cuentos del General, which made readers ponder about the life in Europe. This novel is an
example of many that emerged during this era and gives a glimpse into perspectives on Europe
from the eyes of different inhabitants of Latin America. On his excursions, Diaz discovered many
different techniques that he desired to introduce to the Mexican nation. Diaz s influence over
education originated from his struggle to gaining public favorability. As a result, Diaz decided that
the nation s method of teaching history should favor his and attribute to an increase of loyalty from
the Mexican public (Gutierezz). Diaz s influence over history education branched out to other
aspects of education

The Licence Fee Challenged
When the licence fee was first introduced it was seen as an appropriate way to keep the BBC free
from commercial and government interests. When the licensee was first introduced into the
wireless telegraphy act in November 1923 to cover radio sets it cost 10 shillings per year. By the
end of the year 200, 000 licences had been issued and five years later this had risen to two and a

There have also been calls to introduce a subscription model for the BBC, which has been firmly

those unable to afford to pay. Their refusal to enter into a subscription based system may be
justified, as Sky, the UK s first subscription based model announced a target of 10 million homes

Persuasive Essay On Solar Power
Cars flying across the earth s sky and energy that powers our technology drawn from the sun; this
is a futuristic utopia solely depicted in movies in our modern society. Just two years ago the film
Back To The Future, predicted that we would live in a society like this, yet we have not come
even close to what we were shown in the theaters. Why is that? Well, popularity, and innovation are
directly proportional to each other. We tend to improve on things that we use in our everyday lives;
coming out with better phones, faster cars, and more advance military weapons. Going green and
helping the environment seems to be overshadowed in terms of importance due to the lack of
potential profits outweighing that of the former.
Switching to using solar power and helping the planet is a great and efficacious process and
should be come with a reward. In the sunshine state of Florida, we do not have the ability to
power our homes the green way with solar panels unless we connect it to the power grid, and in
addition we are obliged to pay the utility companies for maintenance of them. Solar panels are
already quite costly to install; Now if you live in Florida, you must pay extra fees for backup
power. The main issue is all of the fees from the utility company (on a monthly basis) can turn solar
power from a way to save money and save the environment to be more of a burden, as a
consequence of the extra fees and paper work, which turns a majority of people away. Solar power
is a great way to go green, and this problem should be resolved so all citizens can afford to make
the switch to solar power.
The issue with solar panels is that in certain states it is very costly. So, the benefits of going
completely green and relying on solar energy are not as great. In 2017, one of the biggest problems
facing contemporary society is global warming, which comes primarily from pollution. Pollution
that could be heavily reduced by going green. So, the pressure to go green is on; that being so,
why does the government appear to make going green such a challenge? In an article by Rolf
Priesnitz titled Generating our Own Power he mentions that the government is incentivizing
citizens by giving out loans so that they can afford to go

The Scarlett Letter By Nathaniel Hawthorne
Nathalia Planas
Dr. Williams
EL3600
7, November 2016 The Scarlett Letter defines Romanticism. During the 1800 s America was in a
identity crisis, the need for literary independence weighed heavily on the culture. There was no set
genre that defined America and set them aside from other literatures. Thus resulting in the
Romanticism literary movement for their desire of a literature that was all American. The Scarlett
Letter written by Nathaniel Hawthorne who during the 19th century was one of the most famous
Romantic writers of his time. The Scarlett Letter defines the elements of Romanticism and best
represents this time period. Hawthorne emphasized on human emotions that define your inner true
self, not by the morality of social standards. In the novel, Hawthorne use of beauty and meaning
behind the unspoiled nature are used to understand the greater path to spirituality. Throughout the
novel, Hester goes from being the character most hated and ridiculed by the town people to a
character looked as a symbol of strength. Hester transition empowers the validity of individualism
and embodies the worth of individual freedom. Hawthorne opens the novel with an in depth
description of the Prison door, but puts more of a focus on the description of the rose bush. The
prison described as dark and gloomy jail cell with no life in it, except the rose bush that continues
to flourish. The color of the rose ties together with the color of the scarlett letter

My First Family Reunion
When anyone thinks of a perfect family photo, they imagine a family with fancy clothing, a bright
sunny day, green grass and faces that have been enhanced. When my family takes photos they are
not quite that picture perfect family that s advertise but a family that goes deeper than perfection. I
come from a fairly large familywith five sisters, one brother and that includes my parents four
grandchildren and one son in law. My sisters are in the middle row off to the left side, my
brothers hand is wrapped around my mother. My little sister is the one with the long black braids. I
am on the right side holding my son of five months and my husband Rudy right next to me. In the
front row is my dad with his three grandchildren.
This photo holds a special place in my heart because it was our very first family reunion.
Looking back on this day brings a tear to my eye because time is a big factor and I can tell time
has gone by since that day. I stare at this photo and can t help but feel blessed. We are all alive
and in good health. Knowing that this was the last photo we took as a family makes it so much
more meaningful to me. That day was filled with excitement and laughter. I remember this day

Emerson And Transcendentalism
Emerson was an American Transcendentalist poet who lived in the 1800 s. His writing was
heavily influenced by the fact he was a transcendentalist. His writing is characterized by the way
he comprehended reality. Transcendentalism is when someone s knowledge comes from intuition
and imagination not logic or senses. A transcendentalist is a person who accepts these ideas not
as religious beliefs but as a way to understand life. They look at themselves, nature, and art for the
answers to life s questions. This search for answers is seen in Emerson s writing by theme of not
listening to society and following the divine idea that he believes is inside of yourself. Emerson is
one of the central figures in the American Transcendentalists group that use literature and
philosophy to write. The writers in this group all shared the common belief that they could

In the essay Emerson talks about points including the importance of thinking for yourself, acting
independently, to avoid consistency, and be a risk taker. The motto that is brought up in the first
part of the essay is trust thyself. Emerson explains not to trust the opinions of others because
those opinions are cowardly and without inspiration or hope. Someone who trusts themselves can
trust their own opinions because these are the people who are original. He also talks about how
we should ignore the conformity of society throughout the first part of the essay, this is seen when
he says the only right is what is after my constitution, the only wrong is against it (Emerson). In
other words, it is better to be true to an evil nature of your own will then the behave correctly
because it is what society demands. The first section of this essay is about the need of acting

Unprotected Sex Leads to an Increase in Pregnancy, Social...
Unprotected sex is becoming increasingly common today which brings an increase in the risks of
the effects; including pregnancy, social discrimination, and various diseases. The majority of
unprotected sex is acted upon within teenagers. However, adults act upon this feat as well. While
performing sexual proceedings, you use a condom to prevent the corrupting effects due to
unprotected sex from happening to you. In the absence of using a condom, the effects are
amplified. Most people are aware of the consequences of unprotected sex, although, the choice of
using a condom to protect you during sexual intercourse is still not always the prevailing decision.

Some teens that become pregnant are still in high school or just beginning a college education.
Pregnancy is a large responsibility that can intermittently be disregarded. Thus, you don t have a
choice but to be prepared for a child and the responsibility that comes with pregnancy. Not only
do you have to help nurture a child and support them, it costs you a vast amount of money as well.
As a teenager and still in school, having enough money to sustain you and a child on your own is
very intricate. As a result, trying to finish school and accomplish future career goals is difficult
with less money and a child to care for. Social discrimination occurs as a result of unprotected sex
and as a result of pregnancy. Even considering most teenagers have unprotected sex, girls especially,
are discriminated against. Generally they are discriminated against by other girls who themselves
have unprotected sex too. You become known as promiscuous even though other girls are just as

sweat, blood and tears (energy) it took to survive the Holocaust seems to build up and haunt

that he s getting old and he cannot be what he once was and that s young again doing all the skillful

To further exacerbate the situation, a typical father son relationship is all about bonding, trust
and understanding each other. Seemingly he s not able to do so because of the distress
overpowering his brain, he continues to be insensitive to Art. Art can t fathom Vladek and he

clinical skill that I have decided to reflect on in this essay is the manual blood pressure test that I
have performed on one of my colleague during a simulative clinical skills session. The aim of
this essay is to reflect on this experience, so as to learn from it, identify areas of concern and
increase competence in this skill accordingly. To start the essay it is the custom to at least give a
definition of blood pressure test, and understand how to interprete the results. I will then proceed to

I then proceeded to record my readings onto a piece of paper, as an Early Warning Signs and
Pain Chart was not available at this time to record the collected data. After the blood pressure
test has ended, I felt quite satisfy with myself, but after a reflective session I found out that I
have not done that well although the whole procedure was considered complete and successful.
Two issues that I have identified when using the Gibb s Reflective Model to reflect on my
practice are that I have not focus enough on my colleague s well being during the whole process,
thus I might have missed important cues that would have revealed information about his
emotional state, any sign of distress or anything that would suggest any discomfort (Jasper,
2003). And secondly, I feel that I concentrated too much on the actual process of blood pressure
testing and that I forgot to look after my correct posture during the later stage of the test. When I
performed my reflective practice of this blood pressure test experience, I believe that at some
point I concentrated too much on reading and recording the data, and that I might have ignored
my colleague s feelings and comfort at the time. I was probably more focus on the blood pressure
test itself than my colleague because of my inexperience of blood pressure

Physical And Human Elements Of Coastal Zone Environment
Describe the interaction of physical and human elements of coastal zone environment and discuss
the different strategic response of individuals, groups and government bodies to the issue of
coastal management. The interaction between the physical and human elements of the coastal
environment has had a considerable effect on the various coastal zones in Australia and specific
strategic events responses of individuals, groups and governments. Australia has over 37 000
kilometres of coastline, 11 000 beaches and thousands of coastal landforms. Approximately 85%
of Australia s population live within 50 km of the coast. The coast is where the ocean meets the
land and the coastal zone comprises of many different environments including rivers, bays,

As I stated before, once the Little Mermaid reaches the top of the water, she begins to wonder
more and more, going further than any of her sisters. She also begins to dream of a life on land
and is curious about what a life with the prince on shore would be like. This is unlike Cinderella
because she goes to the festival night after night to try and conform to society, Andersen never
wrote that Cinderella dreamt of a life with the prince. The only characters in Cinderella that
dreamt of a life of fame and fortune were the stepsisters, who wanted to marry the prince, and the
stepmother, who wanted one of her biological daughters to marry the prince. Next, I would like
to compare is the course of action Cinderella and the Little Mermaid took in order to achieve all
of their dreams. While Cinderella was forbidden by her stepmother to take part in the festivities
after completing a list of tedious chores she only goal to be like everyone else and dance at the
festival. This would allow her to transform from an almost slave like daughter to a normal
member of society. Cinderella wanted to better the situation she was in, which is a goal that
everyone has; however, because she was forbidden to attend and since she had no clothes she

With the 3393 mile long running in different locations, a lot of Canadians are inspired , and they

Amateur Sport announced it the commemorate Terry s great marathon achievement and his

announcement was widely spread so that Terry s Marathon of Hope has been marked as the
significant Canadian moment. At that time, Terry was not only as a hero but also as a man who

fact, Terry s Marathon of Hope took place when the Charter of Rights and Freedoms was under

which promoted a pan Canadian vision of the federation (Hayday 2010, 311). His strong efforts and

Forensic Accounting And Fraud Examination
Problem 1 12
With 20 percent of the inventory missing, along with large portions of the written and computer
records, Mary Soto should hire an external forensic account. Mary should not jump to conclusions
and call the police just yet, but may need to do so according to the findings of the forensic
accountant. Even if thefts have occurred calling the police and alerting the employees of her
suspicion will not always be in the best interest of Mary or the company. In our textbook Forensic
Accounting and Fraud Examination George Young asserts:
It is especially important in the initial notification and evaluation stage to keep the matter as quiet
and secret as is legally possible. In many cases, especially in small businesses, the owner manager s
initial reaction is associated with anger and an overwhelming desire to confront the suspected
employee. This temptation must be strongly resisted. Confronting the suspect too soon is one of
the most damaging things that can be done in an investigation. It is much better first to secretly
gather all the facts and understand the mechanics of the suspect s fraud scheme.
If Mary is not careful she could create some legal missteps which could further damage her and the
company. For example, Mary could be sued for defamation if it is found out that the missing
records and estimated losses are due to an accounting anomaly. However, with an estimated 20
percent of the inventory missing, combined with the large amount of data missing

The Line Between Good And Evil In Philip Zimbardo s The...
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn once said, The line between good and evil cuts through the heart of every
human being. Every indivdual has the decision between good and evil. Not every person will
choose the right side of the line. When an indivdual crosses over the line to the evil side this is
known as The Lucifer Effect. Philip Zimbardo, the individual that coined the idea, presented the
ideas behind why people change and turn evil even if though their whole life they were not
known as an evil person. According to Zimbardo, people turn evil for one of two reasons; The
Lucifer Effect and the seven social processes that grease the slippery slope of evil (TED Talks).

Images arose that showed how the guards had beaten and humiliated the prisoners there had
control over. The guards had shown no signs of evil tendencies perviously, so why did they do it?
Later, after the initial controvery, information came out saying that it possibly happened because
the generals in charge of the guards put pressure on them to get information out of the prisoners.
This lead these American heroes to perform unimaginably, horibble tortures towards the inmates
(The American Prospect). The second reason that Zimbardo gives for people turning evil is the
seven social processes that grease the slippery slope of evil (TED Talks). That phrase translates to
seven thought processes that lead a person to evils that they never thought they could. Mindlessly
taking the first small step expresses in words part of what Stanley Milgram ran an experiment to
test. The first step of his experiment involved shocking a learner with fifteen volts. Taking the first
small step, in the case of Milgram the first, harmless 15 volt shock, can lead to shocks that ended at
450 volts, a lethal shock. Secondly, the dehumanization of others, when one experiences
confrontation with other people they see them as not having feelings as though they are their
enemies. Continuing on into the de individualization of self which translates to the power of
anonymity.

Go Set A Watchman Analysis
Award winning author, Harper Lee in her novel, Go Set a Watchman addresses racial
controversy during the 1950s. Lee s purpose is to create a story that many will love, while
showing her views on racism and how she felt during this time. She creates a controversial tone
in order to make people think about her views while also using familiar characters, which makes
the readers eager to have an update on these beloved characters. Although this novel created
racial tensions, Lee uses her writing skills, ethos, pathos, and logos by connecting the audience
to the story and bridging a gap between the fictional world and reality. Lee s novel combines
issues going on in the real world, while constructing a story that can relate to the readers. Lee s
first novel made people think about how racism affects the world, and she instantly became a
credible author. Lee was born in 1926, which makes her a primary source for the information on
the racial outburst in the 1950s. In Lee s first novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, she uses the quote,
You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view (Harper
Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird). This quote is arguably the most famous line from the novel, and it
tests the readers to fight against racism. As an author during this time, Lee had the ability to
educate the audience about the truth of what life was like in the south during this time, while

Ancient Heroes Vs. Modern Heroes
Ancient Heroes VS. Modern Heroes
Heroes are prevalent in everyone s life. Whether someone s hero is a living person or a fabled
character from a movie, everybody has come into contact with some sort of hero. In fact, the
concept of heroes has existed for hundreds of years, dating all the way back to Ancient Greece.
Over time, heroes have drastically changed. As society has evolved, our heroes have evolved with
it. Their goals and motivations have changed to coincide with the views of modern society. Modern
day heroes have less selfish motives, better qualities, and are portrayed differently than ancient
heroes.
The word heroism brings to mind different things to different people. This is because people tend to
have different concepts of heroism and what it means. The definition of heroism has changed a lot
since ancient times and will continue to change. Despite these changes, there are a few things about
heroes that will never change. A herocan be described as a person who is admired or idealized for
courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Both ancient and modern day heroes are
idealized for possessing these traits. Heroes, no matter from what time period, will always be
powerful, strong, brave, and valued.
In ancient times, heroes had a different motivation for performing good deeds than they do now.
Life was a lot harder during these times because food, water, and timber for building was scarce.
This caused many ancient heroes to have selfish motives.

pet are willing to pay exuberant amounts of money for a purebred dog because they are told that
the puppy has been raised in a loving environment and will grow up to have a friendly disposition
with minimal health problems, (Henn). These customers are under the assumption that because
they are being raised by one person in an open place, they automatically are free from behavioral
and health issues, when this is not the case at all. This myth has been around since breeders began,
and they will not deny this either because it gets them more money and customers. Yet, this could
not possibly be true because

Symptoms of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus Essay examples
The Symptoms of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus
Human Immunodeficiency Virus has left a deep imprint on citizens affected today. The first
recognition of AIDS occurred in the 1980 s and informed Americans to be more careful of their
sexually activity. Some symptoms were similar to the common cold but were taken seriously after
it lead to deaths. People assumed that HIV was spread by sitting on toilet seats or even hugging.
The truth was that HIV couldn t be spread as easily as everyone thought. HIV could only be
transmitted through sexual contact, or needle use from an infected individual. This virus gradually
became a scare especially when the common antibiotics failed. Later on scientists slowly realized
that when a person is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In December a 20 month old child who had received
HIV symptoms 2 transfusions of blood and blood products died from infections related to AIDS32
(Huber, 1992). This case provided evidence that AIDSis indeed caused by an infectious agent
(HIV) on addition it brought forth, concerns about the safety of the blood supply. In December of
1985, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported the first cases of possible mother to child
transmission of AIDS (Avert, 2002). This disease became a scare to the world due to sudden deaths
but the symptoms of AIDS helped people to treat themselves early on.
HIV is a well known virus that has spread throughout the world and is the leading cause for
AIDS. HIV is a retrovirus that causes immune system failure and debilitation. There is much
confusion among the general public regarding the transmission of HIV. People assume that HIV
is spread by sitting on toilet seats, hugging, sharing food or drinks, donating blood, or being
around someone with HIV. HIV cannot be spread as easily as everyone may think. HIV can be
transmitted through sexual contact with an infected individual; sharing needles with an infected
drug user, or during pregnancy in the placenta (George, 1994). Women seem to be more
susceptible to this disease due to the tearing of the vagina during sexual activity. HIV is also
spread via direct contact with bodily fluids including blood, semen, vaginal fluids, breast milk and

African American Culture
When speaking to a coworker who culture is German, we could relate to some things and we had
some differences beings though my culture is African American. There were some things we
could relate on about our cultures being similar such as most Germans are Christian he stated,
and with my culture it is about the same, you do have people who are not Christian but majority
of the population is. Another thing that he mentioned that we had alike was I asked what
holidays he celebrate and he stated Christmas and Easter which is another thing we have in
common. He states how they strive for the best and works very hard, I think that is in most
cultures. In both of our cultures we like to be well organized and be able to maintain schedules,
agendas making sure we stay on the right track. Some differences about our cultures would contain
he stakes that he speak German. He says to him German is considered his first language and when
he came here to the United Stateshe had to learn to speak English. In my culturemost of us already
know English but some people just may pronounce things differently. For him he says he had to
be taught on how to speak English in order to communicate. He states how no matter what they
do they want it to be perfect, and when it s not they will not admit to their faults and they do not
joke very often. He also explains how he is not very friendly in the beginning and that s just how
he is coming from Germany and being German. He says most of the time

Nacirema
Who are the Nacirema and how shall they be defined? The dictionary defines an Anthropologist as
a person that studies human beings and their ancestors through time and space and in relation to
physical character, environmental and social relations, and culture (Webster 2011). I am not
claiming to be an Anthropologist however, from my viewpoint, I am not sure if I am capable of
grasping my mind around the concept that the body is ugly and that its natural tendency is to
debility and disease explained, ( Horace Miner , 2005). Unfortunately, the Nacirema people believe
that this statement is true based on their cultureand their belief system. The Nacirema has a rich and

In Jones findings, the ancestral spirit, therefore, is above all and it is just a symbol ( Myth amp;
Symbol... 1980). My question is, where was Miner getting his information and during that time
what was he trying to prove?
Needless to say, we are all creatures that will go through an evolutionary process. Furthermore, with
internet moving with the speed of light, we shall all discover new cultures and advancements that
will promote behavior changes, new cultural awareness as well as similarities. My question is, was
this difficult for Miner to accept?
In conclusion I would like to point out that, Ellin (2008) explained that when Horace Miner in
1956, was using hyperbole as well as rhetorical misreading to defamiliarized his own culture in
this essay Body ritual among the Nacirema. Nacirema is American spelled backwards . He
exposed an obsession with the body that contributed to masochistic tendencies including annual
visit to holy men (dentist); and weekly head baking by women (using hair dryers); lacerating the
face with sharp instrument by men (shaving); and he discusses the ritual fast to make fat people
thin ( Life support: Nacirema redux ). Through this entire scenario, my perspective is that Miner
was not prepared for change, growth nor evolution. * Works Cited

Homeless Veterans Throughout The City Of Los Angeles
The growing number of homeless veterans in the city of Los Angeles is growing out control, this
issue is a social phenomenon that affects every city across the country; small or large. It is
important to understand that consequently, one way or another, this issue affects not only the
homeless veteran, the city, state and government, but every citizen within each city. Bring forth
more attention to the fact that additional resources are required; resources such as prevention
programs, services, education and vocational training, affordable housing, and medical services. In
the last few years, government officials have realized that the current services for veterans are
inadequate or insufficient. The government realizes that with the end of both wars, Iraq and
Afghanistan, the number of homeless veteranwill surely increase. Additionally let s not forget that
these are the men and women who put their own lives in danger to protect our freedom and our
way of life. After all that, the least we can do is to ensure that they are provide with adequate post
war services and training in order to adequately transition from military to the civilian sector.

Social Class And Family Relationships
We all have a family, but we all have grown up in a different way. Social class plays a huge role
in family life. Three of the connections between social class and family include kin, child rearing,
and education levels. To begin, kin is a part of the family, but there is a difference between kin
ship among the poor and near poor. Kin is an important part of the familylife because it is the
connection between family and, sometimes, wealth. Who people associate in times of need and
support greatly influence their lives and surroundings. In families, the father is seen as the main
economic contributor and in crisis, a loss of a job, his authority will drop. This isn t the only
loss he will face, he will also have a decreased self respect and other family members will treat
him with less respect. On the contrary, if women were to lose her job, there wouldn t be the same
treatment. In areas of chronic poverty, young mothers rely less on marriageand more on other
kinship ties for support (Cherlin, 2013, p. 127). The poor is more likely to reach out or support
more distant relatives than the other social classes. There is yet another difference between the
nonpoor. The core of kinship among the nonpoor in the United States has been the conjugal family
of wife, husband, and children (Cherlin, 2013, p. 128). Parents of the higher social classare expected
to provide for themselves and their children first and foremost. Any savings handed down are

History of Afghanistan and Pakistan
Analysis
Historically Afghanistan and Pakistan have had a good relationship. During the 1980s, Afghan
refugees used the Durand Line border to flee the soviet takeover of their country. With funds aid
from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Pakistan hosted over 3 million Afghans
at various refugee camps. In 1999, the United States gave $70 million in assistance to Afghan
refugees in Pakistan. Pakistan also became the major training ground for the Mujahideen rebel
fighters who fought against the Soviet backed Afghan government and the invading Soviet forces.
The Mujahedeen included not only locals but also Arabs and others from over 40 different Islamic
nations. A religious extremist group known as the Taliban took control of Afghanistans government
after the soviet withdrawal and established friendly relations with neighboring Pakistan. Pakistan
used the Taliban to attack Indian interests in Afghanistan, however after the overthrow of the
Taliban in late 2001 by the United States and allies, Afghan Pakistani relations became strained.
India views Afghanistan as a means of access to Central Asian trade and energy resources, as well
as a means of advancing its own broader domestic and regional interest. Central Asia is one of the
fastest growing markets in the world; and economic activity in the region has had steady growth ,
expanding at about 6 percent per year(imf,2014). Growth in the Central Asian region has mainly
been driven by strong domestic demand, oil,

Introduction
When we think of violence, we often reflect on an image the news has portrayed. We think of gun
violence, robberies, or some other brutal attack that has left one dead or seriously injured. It is
common to assume that this is often occurs in low income, poverty stricken areas. A description is
provided of substance abusers, broken families, racism, and a host of other reasons why violence
occurs. Sometimes, in the majority of cases, this description is correct.
At any time, workplace violence can occur. It can injure one person or various people,
emotionally, physically, and mental. Workplace violence occurs anytime that violence is
threatened against someone at work or there is a present threat of violence. It is often committed
against supervisors, managers, and fellow employees by former or current employees. Workplace
violence happens more often than it should. Such as was the case when the apartment manager
was stabbed in Everett in July 2010. In the United States, there has been 20,000 assaults and 792
homicides that has occurred at workplaces, according to the U.S. Department of Labor s
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). One of the very first publicized episode
of workplace violence occurred in August of 1986. Patrick Sherrill, a disgruntled post office
employee who was on the verge of being let go, committed suicide after shooting 14

Seven Eleven Japan should have employees accessing tablets computers link to headquarters as
they walk the aisles. The computer touch screen can summon up details of individual products,
sales data going back for weeks and even Japanese holidays and local events programmed that
will mix marketing with culture. A clerk can quickly see a customer approaching the cash
register, quickly key in a visual profile and match the profile to the customer purchases. That
information helps both the store and its suppliers refine marketing and inventory and allow both
the store and corporate managers to read the same data. The store manager will review the
information by sales trends and stock out by segmented groups. That way they will hold
extensive knowledge of market demands. The employees also use the tablet computer to track
freshness of every piece of food including sushi or fruit. This will be a great way to include this
cutting edge technology to serve the impulsive desires of customers. They need to market more to
professional career women not only individually but to the family oriented environment. The

The Importance Of The Five Pillars Of Islam
In order to fully understand a religion, one must first grasp the very core the religion is built upon.
To understand Islam, one must understand the 5 Pillars of Islam before they can truly appreciate
the religion in its entirety. This begs the question, what are the 5 Pillars of Islam and what do they
mean? The 5 Pillars of Islamin order are Shahadah, Salah, Zakat, Sawm, and Hajj. (Islam Explained
Video) Shahadah, the First Pillar of Islam, is an article of faith and is explained by renown
Historian Keith Hughes in his video Islam Explained: Religions in Global History as a
confession where one must say, there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger
of Allah. (Islam Explained Video) The Second Pillar of Islam is Salah, which refers to prayer.
(Islam PowerPoint) To complete the Second Pillar one must pray 5 times a day facing Mecca.
(Islam PowerPoint) Starting before Sunrise the five daily prayers are Fajr, Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib,
and ending with Isha. (Islam PowerPoint). Similar to Christianity, Moslems go to church, or the
mosque, except their day of worship is Friday. (Islam PowerPoint) After completing Salah, the next
pillar is Zakat, the pillar of charity. This pillar means exactly what one might think, giving money
to people in need of it. In countries with governments based from Islam, a tax is mandated by the
government telling each person how much they need to give to the poor. (Islam PowerPoint) The
Fourth Pillar of Islam, Sawm, translates to

Londoners Club Milestones
This week D.Y.J. faced F.C. Arsenal, dressed in their lucky yellow and blue kit. As a relatively
new team in the league, North Londoners presented a puzzle for us, although it was clear that
we were about to face a young and fit team. There was not much to worry about, after managing
to survive against a top notch team like Maxela, and paying revenge to our rivaling Reboceros,
and utilizing just eleven players in both previous games, there was a strong feeling that we were
going to be all right and in the end we would get our desired three points. D.Y.J. was approaching
several club milestones: extending its longest unbeaten run to five games, and extending the
number of wins to five also. Troubles that any coach would love to have: as it was stated several

Our main idea and the ultimate goal for D.Y.J. from the very beginning was to establish a club
organization that can participate in several leagues at the same time. Moreover, a club with
several teams, not necessarily formed by a first team and reserve team model, but rather an
organization that can support several teams of a relatively equal strength, but of a different age,
or playing a different style of a soccer. This model is intended to provide an easy transition to a
player from one team to another, if a player s level of fitness, injuries, amount of available time,
desired level of competition or a size of the dog in the fight , nor a preferred style of playing
would make any member of the club unsuitable. Building a club like this (especially when your
coach and top club officer are not sixty years old and do not have any financial interest in the
project) is not easy. In fact, I have to say this is very different than anything I ever was involved
in. The first step was to get enough players, willing to play together. Build some mutual respect,
cohesion and make sure that everyone on the field is enjoying

The Music Video Of Hong Kong
Blur, a British band, released their official music video of the song, Ong Ong , on June 3rd
2015. The whole music video is weird to most people because of its image covering with pink
color and cute figures. The song is from the album called The Magic Whip. According to the video
featuring the interviews of makings this album, the song is made in Hong Kong, and the song s
name, Ong Ong is actually derived from Hong Kong. This means that the song is about Hong
Kong, and a lot of locations in Hong Kong are mentioned in the lyrics as well ( Blur The Magic
Whip: Made in Hong Kong. ). All in all, we can assume that there are some connections between
the issues in Hong Kong and the cute music video. Instead of heavy, sad and relatively direct
presentation of the status in Hong Kong, they choose to present vague metaphors that cannot
easily be discovered because it will result in serious trouble if addressed directly in public. With
the reason above and that the band members think Hong Kong is a cute place, they developed a
main strategy, which is to introduce Hong Kong to their fans with a series of cute, relaxing, and
seemly meaningless emotion of blur, just as their band s name. In order to pass their message
carefully and vaguely, they use fantasy, funny villains, and, most of all, strong images. First of all,
the music video conducts a traditional fairytale story, which most of the boys and girls fantasized
as kids, as a metaphor for the people of Hong

A New Medical Dram Marcus Welby Essay
In 1969 the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) aired a new medical drama called Marcus
Welby, M.D. The title character was a Primary Care Physician (PCP) who made house calls, had
a kind bedside manner, and was on a first name basis with most of his patients. The drama
highlighted the meaning of caring for the whole person, not just a specific part of the body.
Unfortunately those days are gone, just when we need them the most. It is projected that the
demand for PCP s will rapidly increase due to an aging population and health care reform, leaving a
shortage of over 20,000 physicians by the year 2020 ( Projecting the Supply, 2013).
A healthy primary care base is critical to the running of an effective health care system. People
who have access to PCP s are more likely to receive preventive and timely care for medical
conditions. Having a PCP is also associated with fewer emergency department visits and fewer
hospital admissions (Abrams, Nuzum, Mika, Lawlor, 2011). Developed countries have made
primary care the foundation of their healthcare system. The U.S. followed this model until 1949,
and since that time PCP s have been steadily declining (Shi Singh, 2015). A study by West and
Dupras in 2012 showed that only 21.5 percent of third year internal medicine residents intended to
continue on and make general internal medicine their career (Shi Singh, 2015). Today, most
medical school graduates are entering specialties such as anesthesia, cardiology and

Traditional Japanese landscapes can be divided into 3 types: Tsukiyama Gardens (hill type garden) Karesansui Gardens (dry garden) and Chaniwa Gardens (tea garden). Tsukiyama Gardens: ponds, hills, rocks, trees, flowers, bridges and paths are used to create a miniature reproduction of a natural landscape that is often famous in China or Japan. The name Tsukiyama refers to the creation of artificial hills. Karesansui Gardens illustrate natural landscapes in a more abstract way, using stones, sand and some paths bags for the most representative mountains, islands, rivers and seas. The gardens are strongly influenced by Zen Buddhism and used for meditation. Sakura and the Cherry Blossom Festival Sakura (cherry blossom) is Japan s unofficial national flower. It is celebrated for centuries and has a well defined place in Japanese culture. There are many varieties of cherry trees in Japan, most blooming only for a few days in the spring. Methodology To complete the paper I will be researching and presenting, secondary data will be reviewed initially through the university library using a range of information sources such as the JSTOR system, ProQuest, academic and commercial abstracts, bibliographic databases, and Internet search engines. The website GratonRancheria.com will be used as primary data for the analyzation of the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria. 4 Brief History on Californian Ingenuous People We have all heard the story of how America came to be, and how Native Americans were pushed out because of this. In regards to the west coast, the history is a bit different. There is evidence of natives living in California since from at least 17,000 BCE. Prior to contact with Europeans, the California region contained the highest native American population north of what is now Mexico. Because of the temperate climate and easy access to food sources, approximately one third of all Native Americans in the United States were living in California. The Spanish began their long term occupation in California in 1769. California and its Spanish Colonization were different from earlier efforts to simultaneously introduce missionaries and colonists in their world conquest schemes. Organized by the driven Franciscan administrator Junipero Serra and military authorities under Gaspar de Portola, they journeyed to San Diego to establish the first of 21 coastal missions. • 4. Anne Bradstreet s Here Follows Some Follows Upon The... An elegy, a poem written in honor of a deceased. It mourns the death of an individual through looking at the bright side. It can release stress because of all the emotions that could not be held in anymore. This can be clearly portrayed in Anne Bradstreet s Here Follows Some Verses upon the Burning of Our House and Thomas Gray s Elegy Written in Country Churchyard. Both of the writers have feelings of depression. The writers bring up subtle comparisons between the poem and themselves. The arising themes remain constant through spirituality. In both of the stories, there is an identified preposition of melancholy, potential, and spirituality. To start off with the poem Here Follows Some Verses upon the Burning of Our House, Anne Bradstreet sets up the tone of sadness and says that she was awakened by a noise, a voice screaming fire and how heartbreaking it was to lose her home and possessions (Elegy 178). Bradstreet describes how her home looks after the incident. Her and her family have to start all over again. Bradstreet feels like everything has been taken away from her and will not be able to move on in line. She is having feelings of melancholy. Consequently, Bradstreet has an epiphany and says, Adieu, adieu, all s vanity (Elegy 179). This means that she is saying all her possessions are worthless. This is a turning point in Bradstreet s life that she was gifted with. She now sees how her ambition, potential, and hope can change her future life. She had been taking ... • 5. Willie Reed Racism Thesis: The life of Willie Reed shows a different kind of truth within the Jim Crow South, the determination of a man s soul, and his outright righteousness towards humanity. Reconstruction defined oppression for Southern African Americans. Abolishing slavery resulted in backlash and more intolerance to minorities. The South s image tarnished by the institution of slavery did not alter the social confides of its representatives. African Americans gained freedom, however, their livelihood did not change. Generations of African Americans, in the South, endured discrimination as the white population obscured their progress. However, the popular narrative set by the elitist whites would not endure without conflict. The life of Willie Reed shows a different kind of truth within the Jim Crow South, the determination of a man s soul, and his righteousness towards humanity. Paul Ortiz interviewed Mississippi native, Willie Reed, for a study on African Americans living conditions during the Jim Crow South. Mr. Reed, a prominent African Americanman, gained notary in Indianola, Mississippi as a self taught craftsman. His interview showcases a different light in the culture of the Jim Crow South. A man with deep rooted religious convictions who did not endure the typical intolerance of the white South. Mississippi portrays the typical footprint of discrimination in the South. Once the staple of King Cotton , Mississippi embodies the accounts of Civil Rights injustice. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some important common ground both theorists utilize in constructing and defending their theories are that both talked about justice, liberty, and equality. Both Rawls and Norzick believe that justice, liberty, and equality would make a better society. Both talked strongly about a just society. Rawls and Norzick tried to figure out how to create a more just society. They also believed in moral side constraint. Lastly, they both touched on property rights. 2.By Characterizing his original position as the appropriate initial status quo what moral sensibilities does Rawl appeal to in order to advance his theory? Please ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His second constraint states that they must be chosen behind a veil of ignorance. By placing the parties behind a veil of ignorance, Rawls believes that the choice situation will nullify the effects of specific contingencies that put men at odds. He also thinks it will tempt them to exploit social and natural circumstances to their own advantage. 3.Norzick s entitlement theory of justice place the appeal (main argument) of the theory by looking at two different beliefs/ behaviors in society to determine what is just. What are these two different beliefs/behaviors? Please explain each. How do they apply to the concept of the minimal state The entitlement theory of justice tells us that whatever arises from a just situation by just steps is itself just. Norzick s two beliefs are absolute property ownership rights. His other belief is redistribution rights. Norzicks belief of property ownership rights is the right of ownership over oneself and over things in the world. For example, in a class discussion, we talked about how if someone wanted to give their eye to someone who needs it, they have the right to do so because they absolute property ownership of their ... • 7. Similarities Between Virginia And The Caribbean During particular time periods whichever product rose to popularity, whether it be cotton, rum, tobacco, or sugar, became the means of buying and selling or trading. Two major products that the people of the new world depended on during the early colonial times were tobacco and sugar. Both Virginia and the Caribbeanwere able to be successful and bloom due to these two major products. Virginia and the Caribbean had many similarities as well as differences on how they changed economically and socially due to tobacco and sugar plantations. John Rolfe, the father of the tobacco industry, was the reason why tobacco made its way to America. Soon after tobacco was perfected in both raising and curing by Rolfe, it became a popular product that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tobacco did not require much to process, unlike sugar that required advanced technology as well as multiple laborers. Within a year tobacco was able to be produced, however sugar took longer. Sugar cultivation became a business that only farmers with a lot of money could succeed in due to the need for land and for labor to clear the fields and to run the mills. However almost anyone could farm tobacco because it was easily planted and didn t cost as much. In Virgina, tobacco became such a high demand that fields everywhere were used for tobacco plantations. However farmers repeatedly used the same land over and over, ruining the soil. This limited Virginia s fortunes to the irregular price of a single crop. The high demand for sugar in the Caribbeans also wiped out all other forms of Caribbean agriculture. Which led to the dependence on the north american mainland for other food supplies and basic supplies. When it comes to tobacco and sugar plantations, both the Caribbean and Virginia were affected socially and economically. As the plantations grew, slaves became a major factor in farming the lands. This soon lead to the Civil War due to the differences between the free and slave states over the power of the national government to prohibit slavery in the territories ... • 8. Explain The Structure Of The Respiratory System P6 describe the structure and function of the respiratory system The nasal cavity (it can also be known as the nasal fossa) is a large air filled space above and behind the nose in the middle of the face. Each cavity is the continuation of one of the two nostrils. This picture shows us where the nasal cavity can be found in the body. The epiglottis is a flap that is made of elastic cartilage tissue covered with a mucous membrane, attached to the entrance of the larynx. It projects obliquely upwards behind the tongue and the hyoid bone, pointing dorsally. There are taste buds on the epiglottis. The image shows where the epiglottis can be found in the body. The pharynx is an organ found in vertebrates and invertebrates. In humans the pharynx is part of the digestive system and also of the conducting zone of the respiratory system. The conducting zone also includes the nose, larynx, trachea, bronchi, and bronchioles, and their function is to filter, warm, and moisten air and conduct it into the lungs. This refers to the process of Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide moving between the lungs and blood. Diffusion occurs when molecules move from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. This occurs during gaseous exchange as the blood in the capillaries surrounding the alveoli has a lower oxygen concentration of Oxygen than the air in the alveoli which has just been inhaled. Both alveoli and capillaries have walls which are only one cell thick and allow gases to diffuse across them. The same happens with Carbon Dioxide. The blood in the surrounding capillaries has a higher concentration of CO2 than the inspired air due to it being a waste product of energy production. Therefore CO2 diffuses the other way, from the capillaries, into the alveoli where it can then be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Pros And Cons Of Ration Books And The Rationing System Ration books With the onset of WWII, the United States needed a system to savor their supplies, so the government put in place the rationing system. They used ration books to get supplies like meat and sugar from grocery stores, a ration book was kind of like a coupon book, you couldn t buy a rationed item without having a ration stampfor that item (National WWII museum). So it s like a mix of a coupon book, and a you have permission to buy this item stamp. But nothing is perfect, not even the ration books, so here are some cons the ration books the rationing system spawned. First, that the ration system/books spawned that was illegal was the black market, since you could only buy something if you had a rationing stamp from a grocery store, people sometimes needed more than they had, so the black market allowed people to buy rationed items for a higher price, and they didn t need the ration stamp for that item (United States History). One aspect of the rationing system was that the food wasn t very fresh, so if people wanted some fresh vegetables they had to make their own gardens (victory gardens) and once they did that their family could enjoy fresh food for a few months while the garden was still alive, many people did this, there were approximately 20 million victory gardens (20,000,000) (United States History). In addition, if you had a ration stamp for an item, it wasn t guaranteed that the store had the item that you needed because there were a lot of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Development And Analysis Of Microsatellite Dna Essay 10 THE DEVELOPMENT AND ANALYSIS OF MICROSATELLITE DNA Summary Due to the significant negative impact of the industrial activities on the habitat, many species have become endangered. To conserve the species, a thorough investigation is needed. In this case, the research is based on the study the interdependencies between the genotype and spatial dispersal of populations. Despite being endangered, turtles comprise rather specific object for such investigations, as well as any other long lived organisms, because their reproduction cycles complicate the genetic investigations using conventional methods. That is why the novel DNA markers, microsatellites, were chosen for this research. Although the microsatellites are very informative and universal, the overall cost for research is higher than for RAPD and AFLP. This is mostly due to the cost of the fluorescent dye which is used in the PCR. To eliminate this, I will apply an interesting technique which allows for incorporation of the dye by the forward primer into the product of polymerization thus saving a considerable amount of the dye. • 11. Berger s Views On The Dialectic Character Of Society 1. I think the dialectic character of society refers to the mentality that individuals have about the reality of the way the society is functioning. Berger mentions how this character is blind, and how it needs to be addressed so that individuals will observe actual reality (Berger 4). Due to a variety of cultures within society, the dialectic reality is still being disputed. Man has his own thought process, but people are told only to believe what society has shown us. Man created society, but society did not create man. However, man is often viewed as a product of society because this is our everyday reality. 2. According to Berger, the three steps that constitute the process of world building are externalization, objectivation, and internalization. Externalization is man interacting with society being an essential step so that he can develop. Objectivation is man continuing to shape society by developing new things in it that help shape culture, for existence: language. Internalization is man using the structures of the objective world to help form his own thoughts and opinions. These all maintain a stable society with a similar reality.... The characters have no rules to guide them in escaping and there is no one to enforce any type of rules because each character has an equality of strength. Cuentos Del General Essay Identification and Evaluation of Sources This investigation analyzes the impact that Porfirio Diaz s administration had on public interest and particularly that of the primary education system. Through Diaz s foreign expeditions and through his involvement in governmental action, the depiction and characteristics of the primary education system were reformed. The question that derives from this development is: How was the Porfiriato (1876 1910) a turning point in the Mexican system of primary education? Whether those were positive or negative developments, it is a relative matter. Diaz was especially fascinated by Europe and was fascinated by the culture there. Vicente Riva Palacio embodies this fascination in his novel titled, Cuentos del General, which made readers ponder about the life in Europe. This novel is an example of many that emerged during this era and gives a glimpse into perspectives on Europe from the eyes of different inhabitants of Latin America. • 17. Persuasive Essay On Solar Power Cars flying across the earth s sky and energy that powers our technology drawn from the sun; this is a futuristic utopia solely depicted in movies in our modern society. Just two years ago the film Back To The Future, predicted that we would live in a society like this, yet we have not come even close to what we were shown in the theaters. Why is that? Well, popularity, and innovation are directly proportional to each other. We tend to improve on things that we use in our everyday lives; coming out with better phones, faster cars, and more advance military weapons. Going green and helping the environment seems to be overshadowed in terms of importance due to the lack of potential profits outweighing that of the former. Switching to using solar power and helping the planet is a great and efficacious process and should be come with a reward. In the sunshine state of Florida, we do not have the ability to power our homes the green way with solar panels unless we connect it to the power grid, and in addition we are obliged to pay the utility companies for maintenance of them. Solar panels are already quite costly to install; Now if you live in Florida, you must pay extra fees for backup power. The main issue is all of the fees from the utility company (on a monthly basis) can turn solar power from a way to save money and save the environment to be more of a burden, as a consequence of the extra fees and paper work, which turns a majority of people away. Solar power is a great way to go green, and this problem should be resolved so all citizens can afford to make the switch to solar power. The issue with solar panels is that in certain states it is very costly. So, the benefits of going completely green and relying on solar energy are not as great. In 2017, one of the biggest problems facing contemporary society is global warming, which comes primarily from pollution. Pollution that could be heavily reduced by going green. So, the pressure to go green is on; that being so, why does the government appear to make going green such a challenge? A transcendentalist is a person who accepts these ideas not as religious beliefs but as a way to understand life. They look at themselves, nature, and art for the answers to life s questions. • 31. Forensic Accounting And Fraud Examination Problem 1 12 With 20 percent of the inventory missing, along with large portions of the written and computer records, Mary Soto should hire an external forensic account. Mary should not jump to conclusions and call the police just yet, but may need to do so according to the findings of the forensic accountant. Even if thefts have occurred calling the police and alerting the employees of her suspicion will not always be in the best interest of Mary or the company. In our textbook Forensic Accounting and Fraud Examination George Young asserts: It is especially important in the initial notification and evaluation stage to keep the matter as quiet and secret as is legally possible. In many cases, especially in small businesses, the owner manager s initial reaction is associated with anger and an overwhelming desire to confront the suspected employee. This temptation must be strongly resisted. Confronting the suspect too soon is one of the most damaging things that can be done in an investigation. It is much better first to secretly gather all the facts and understand the mechanics of the suspect s fraud scheme. If Mary is not careful she could create some legal missteps which could further damage her and the company. For example, Mary could be sued for defamation if it is found out that the missing records and estimated losses are due to an accounting anomaly. Every indivdual has the decision between good and evil. Not every person will choose the right side of the line. When an indivdual crosses over the line to the evil side this is known as The Lucifer Effect. Philip Zimbardo, the individual that coined the idea, presented the ideas behind why people change and turn evil even if though their whole life they were not known as an evil person. According to Zimbardo, people turn evil for one of two reasons; The Lucifer Effect and the seven social processes that grease the slippery slope of evil (TED Talks). Images arose that showed how the guards had beaten and humiliated the prisoners there had control over. The guards had shown no signs of evil tendencies perviously, so why did they do it? Later, after the initial controvery, information came out saying that it possibly happened because the generals in charge of the guards put pressure on them to get information out of the prisoners. This lead these American heroes to perform unimaginably, horibble tortures towards the inmates (The American Prospect). The second reason that Zimbardo gives for people turning evil is the seven social processes that grease the slippery slope of evil (TED Talks). That phrase translates to seven thought processes that lead a person to evils that they never thought they could. Mindlessly taking the first small step expresses in words part of what Stanley Milgram ran an experiment to test. The first step of his experiment involved shocking a learner with fifteen volts. Taking the first small step, in the case of Milgram the first, harmless 15 volt shock, can lead to shocks that ended at 450 volts, a lethal shock. This begs the question, what are the 5 Pillars of Islam and what do they mean? The 5 Pillars of Islamin order are Shahadah, Salah, Zakat, Sawm, and Hajj. (Islam Explained Video) Shahadah, the First Pillar of Islam, is an article of faith and is explained by renown Historian Keith Hughes in his video Islam Explained: Religions in Global History as a confession where one must say, there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. • 52. Londoners Club Milestones This week D.Y.J. faced F.C. Arsenal, dressed in their lucky yellow and blue kit. As a relatively new team in the league, North Londoners presented a puzzle for us, although it was clear that we were about to face a young and fit team. There was not much to worry about, after managing to survive against a top notch team like Maxela, and paying revenge to our rivaling Reboceros, and utilizing just eleven players in both previous games, there was a strong feeling that we were going to be all right and in the end we would get our desired three points. D.Y.J. was approaching several club milestones: extending its longest unbeaten run to five games, and extending the number of wins to five also. Troubles that any coach would love to have: as it was stated several times... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our main idea and the ultimate goal for D.Y.J. from the very beginning was to establish a club organization that can participate in several leagues at the same time. Moreover, a club with several teams, not necessarily formed by a first team and reserve team model, but rather an organization that can support several teams of a relatively equal strength, but of a different age, or playing a different style of a soccer. This model is intended to provide an easy transition to a player from one team to another, if a player s level of fitness, injuries, amount of available time, desired level of competition or a size of the dog in the fight , nor a preferred style of playing would make any member of the club unsuitable. Building a club like this (especially when your coach and top club officer are not sixty years old and do not have any financial interest in the project) is not easy. In fact, I have to say this is very different than anything I ever was involved in. The first step was to get enough players, willing to play together. Build some mutual respect, cohesion and make sure that everyone on the field is enjoying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. The Music Video Of Hong Kong Blur, a British band, released their official music video of the song, Ong Ong , on June 3rd 2015. The whole music video is weird to most people because of its image covering with pink color and cute figures. The song is from the album called The Magic Whip. According to the video featuring the interviews of makings this album, the song is made in Hong Kong, and the song s name, Ong Ong is actually derived from Hong Kong. This means that the song is about Hong Kong, and a lot of locations in Hong Kong are mentioned in the lyrics as well ( Blur The Magic Whip: Made in Hong Kong. ). All in all, we can assume that there are some connections between the issues in Hong Kong and the cute music video. Instead of heavy, sad and relatively direct presentation of the status in Hong Kong, they choose to present vague metaphors that cannot easily be discovered because it will result in serious trouble if addressed directly in public. With the reason above and that the band members think Hong Kong is a cute place, they developed a main strategy, which is to introduce Hong Kong to their fans with a series of cute, relaxing, and seemly meaningless emotion of blur, just as their band s name. In order to pass their message carefully and vaguely, they use fantasy, funny villains, and, most of all, strong images. First of all, the music video conducts a traditional fairytale story, which most of the boys and girls fantasized as kids, as a metaphor for the people of Hong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. A New Medical Dram Marcus Welby Essay In 1969 the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) aired a new medical drama called Marcus Welby, M.D. The title character was a Primary Care Physician (PCP) who made house calls, had a kind bedside manner, and was on a first name basis with most of his patients. The drama highlighted the meaning of caring for the whole person, not just a specific part of the body. Unfortunately those days are gone, just when we need them the most. It is projected that the demand for PCP s will rapidly increase due to an aging population and health care reform, leaving a shortage of over 20,000 physicians by the year 2020 ( Projecting the Supply, 2013). A healthy primary care base is critical to the running of an effective health care system. People who have access to PCP s are more likely to receive preventive and timely care for medical conditions. Having a PCP is also associated with fewer emergency department visits and fewer hospital admissions (Abrams, Nuzum, Mika, Lawlor, 2011). Developed countries have made primary care the foundation of their healthcare system. The U.S. followed this model until 1949, and since that time PCP s have been steadily declining (Shi Singh, 2015). A study by West and Dupras in 2012 showed that only 21.5 percent of third year internal medicine residents intended to continue on and make general internal medicine their career (Shi Singh, 2015). Today, most medical school graduates are entering specialties such as anesthesia, cardiology and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
