Satan As An Epic Hero In John Milton s Paradise Lost
John Milton s Paradise Lost has long been a widely contested, appreciated and debated epic poem
largely due to the presentation of Satan as an epic hero. Throughout the body of this essay, using a
close reading of Book 2, lines 657 669 in relation to the entirety of the poem, I will explore the ways
in which Milton portrays Satan in accordance to conventions of the hero within the epic genre as well
as dispelling any challenges to the idea of Satan as an epic hero in Paradise Lost.
Adhering to as well as challenging the conventions of the epic genre, Milton portrays Satan as heroic,
determined to form a new equilibrium for himself and his followers. Declaring For this eternal pit
shall never hold (Milton 2008), Satan presents God as a ruthless tyrant entrapping Satan and the devils
and inspires morale with the idea that they re more powerful than the confines subjected to them. The
epic hero traditionally serves as an inspiration to his followers. Additionally, Satan leaves
Pandemonium Hurling defiance towards the vault of Heaven (Milton 2008); Milton imagines Satan as
a mighty force who defies his enemy in the face of adversity to avenge his mistreatment. As Milton s
early audiences would ve been aware of Satan s infamy as a religious figure, his decision to display
Satan as heroic subverts the idea of the morally driven epic protagonist. Furthermore, Milton s
presentation of Satan has proved contentious, For roughly three centuries, readers have demanded
justice

Toni Morrison Essays
Toni Morrison
The issue of abandonment and the will that it takes to survive the hardship of it is a reoccurring theme
in Toni Morrison s writing. Tar Baby, Sula and Paradise all deal with the issue of abandonment and
how it relates to the characters in her stories. Through her fiction, Toni Morrison intends to present
problems, not their answers (Moon). Her stated aim is to show how to survive whole in a world where
we are all of us, in some measure, victims of something. (Morrison) Morrison s broad vision extends
beyond the individual to one that explores self discovery in relation to a shared history. In order to
dramatize the destructive effects of this kind of dependency, she intentionally exaggerates to find the
limits. In a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike Howard University, where black culture was neglected or minimized, at Texas Southern they
celebrated black heritage with Negro history week and introduced to her the idea of black culture as a
discipline rather than just personal family reminiscences. Morrison s discovery of the minimization of
the black culture in the school that she attended may be looked upon as the abandonment of her roots
and her black culture. This idea of abandoning the black culture is the main theme in her novel, Tar
Baby.
Tar Baby is also a name, like nigger, that white people call black children, black girls, as I recall . At
one time, a tar pit was a holy place, at least an important place, because tar was used to build things .
It held together things like Moses little boat and the pyramids. For me, the tar baby came to mean the
black woman who can hold things together.
( An Interview 255) Toni Morrison s Tar Baby (1982), is a novel about contentions and conflicts based
on learned biases and prejudices. These biases exist on a race level, gender level, and a class level.
The central conflict, however, is the conflict within the main character, Jadine. This conflict, as
Andrew W. A. LaVallee has suggested, is the conflict of the race traitor. It is the conflict of a woman
who has discarded her heritage and culture and adopted another trying to reconcile herself to the night

When Should Young People Be Allowed To Lower The Age Of...
When does someone become an adult. Is it at a certain age or certain level of maturity? A person
should be considered an adult when they mature. And by mature i mean he/she reasons better, makes
better choices, knows the consequences for making bad decisions, and are able to stand on their own.
Standing on their own is a big factor in being an adult because that s when u are able to support
yourself and not depend on parents financially and emotionally. And being able to do that and
supporting yourself means you don t need others which i believe makes a person an adult. Reasoning
better is also a sign of adulthood. Because most teenagers aren t able to reason as good as most older
people which leads to making the wrong decision which can lead to trouble. And at the age of 18 the
brain still isn t fully developed which makes people not responsible yet. In the (Greenblatt article

Biological Factors of Human Relationships
Biological factors are something that contributes hugely to the formation and maintenance of
relationships whether it is romantic, friendly or family related. Many researchers have conducted
studies in which they have attempted to try and explain the link between biological factors and human
relationships. I am going to specifically focus on Bowlby s study on the role of hormones in bonding,
Buss study on women jealousy and its relation to estrogen levels, Fishers study on the brain and its
role in romantic relationships, and Marazziti who studied the effect of serotonin on love obsession.
These studies will help me show the role that biological factors have in human relationships in both
the development and maintenance of them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The development of a relationship from the first and early stages of love to the more developed stages,
couples tend to move from the passionate love to the more intimate relationship of relaxation,
dependency, and security which all play into attachment. In 1969 Bowlby suggested, Humans have an
innate attachment system which consists of specific behaviours and psychological responses called
attachment behaviours. For his experiment it mainly was conducted for research on mother child
relationships however many believe that the results are relatable to both mother child and romantic
relationships. According to more modern research, it has been shown that both oxytocin a powerful
hormone which is released in men and women during touching and sex which helps to deepen and
intensify the feelings of the select attachment and vasopressin a hormone released also during sex help
in increasing the bond that is between two lovers. Through this it helps the couples to feel closer and
more bonded. One of the main criticisms of this experiment was the complexity of the researched
relationships and how since they didn t consider other factors that might affect the results, therefore
resulting in the possibility that it could be unreliable. However if looking at just this one aspect, this
biological factor can be considered to have an influence on human relationships both mother child and

The Hidden Assault On Our Civil Rights By Kenji Yoshino
It is not uncommon for people to wear a mask when trying to hide something they wish not to share,
but when it starts to impacting them and other people around them negatively, it becomes a problem.
Having to hide aspects of one s life just to fit in with the rest of society is something that is
unnecessary, even if one feels that it is needed. Kenji Yoshino is the Chief Justice Earl Warren
professor of Constitutional Law at New York University. Yoshino is also the author of the book,
Covering: The Hidden Assault On Our Civil Rights. In New Civil Rights, Kenji Yoshino talks about
covering as Covering is to tone down a disfavored identity to fit into the mainstream (Yoshino 552).
Although covering in society is something that appears to be normal, having to hide a part of one s life
can impact them negatively because they cannot express who they really are. Expressing oneself
should be considered the normal, not hiding how they wish to express about themselves. Covering is a
bad trait in society that people have become immune to covet because they feel like they have to so
they can fit into society and be liked by everyone.
Today people are influenced by several factors that have emerged into ... Show more content on

The thought of fitting into what is considered to be normal made up by other people is stupid. This
means everyone as a whole is living in a bunch of total lies. Living in what is called normal is the
problem of this world. The true self is associated with human spontaneity and authenticity: Only the
True Self can be creative and only the True Self can feel real (Yoshino 554). If everyone could just
live the way they wanted to society would not have as many angry people. Everyone would be doing
what they love with other people that love to do the samething. Although covering has such a negative
effect on society it could have very minor things that could help it

The Denver Developmental Screening Test, is a screening tool developed to identify young children 0
6 years of age at risk for developmental delay and disability. Its format is comparable to the structure
of pediatric growth charts, and is divided into four distinct developmental domains: personal social,
fine motor adaptive, language, and gross motor. The test can be administered with ease, in less than an
hour and scoring is based on observation, and parental reporting (Encyclopedia of Autism Spectrum

Reoccurring Themes In The Miller s Tale
In Chaucer s, The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer uses many aspects of one tale and incorporates it into
another using many reoccurring themes. Many characters go through similar circumstances as
Chaucer uses these themes to help each tale parallel another. For example, the Wife of Bath s Tale and
The Nun s Priests Tale, uses the theme of textual evidence as a basis of reasoning of men to overpower
women. The two tales that parallel each other the most are The Miller s Tale and The Summoner s
Tale. Nicholas and Absolon of the Miller s Tale act immoral in many ways which the Friar in the
Summoner s tale seems to exhibit. Chaucer uses the characteristics and actions of the characters in the
Miller s Tale to create a character that embodies many aspects ... Show more content on

The theme of immoral characters becomes quite disturbing when people who claimed to be devoted to
the Lord are partaking in such dishonorable acts. Dishonorable acts such as their treatment of women
show how they neglect their priesthood and are not truly men of God. The priests within the Miller
and Summoner s Tales disregard their vows of chastity and pursue women in order to fulfill their
desires of sex. Absolon, the incense swinger at the church vows for the love a young married women,
Alison. Absolon is fully aware of Alison s marriage, but is still very persistent in his attempts to try
and woo her. One of his schemes to make Alison think fondly of him involved him sending her, honey
wine, mead and spiced.....and as she [lived] in town, he [proffered] cash (The Millers Tale 88). With
his expensive gifts of food and cash leads readers to believe that he is breaking another vow, poverty.
His lust for this one woman drives him to spend essentially the church s money since priests are
supposed to take vows of poverty and refrain from living gluttonously. His desires for Alison portray
him as a clear contrast to what priests are expected to act like and in a sense, morally corrupt. The
Friar within the Summoner s Tale approaches is women is quite different to that of Absolom. The

Mexican American Identity
Identity is an essential necessity for humans to demonstrate the distinct individual. A person s identity
may take time to develope as the person acquires new interests, influences, and comprehension of the
surrounding people. Authors such as Adrienne Rich and Gloria Anzaldua write about the struggles
persistent in identity. Rich is identified by her gender and race by other people, while Anzaldua is
defined as to what a Mexican American women should be. As a Mexican American, Amelia Mendoza,
my best friend, encounters the strains of identity.
In the summer of 2010, Amelia travelled to Mexico and experienced culture shock. The way Mexicans
live in the United States is different from the life in Oaxaca, Mexico. She was in a different country
where the majority of the population spoke Spanish instead of English. She was not comfortable
enough to open her mouth and speak the native tongue of her parents. Amelia stood by her relatives
side at all times and did not interact with other people in the area. Communication with other people
was handled by Amelia s father. Amelia noticed houses are not all made from wood, but from adobe
and a variety of roof tiles. Trees and animals encompass the majority of the land, leading people to
cultivate their food and make a living off of it. Stores are located in a section of a person s house.

Siege Of Tobruk Essay
How the Siege of Tobruk Influenced and Shaped the Outcome of World War Two Now this is not the
end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning. (Churchill,
1942) After months of incongruity between British and American war planners regarding the viability
of a cross channel invasion in 1940, the Americans accepted the British strategy and approved the
North African Campaign. It included campaigns fought in the Libyan and Egyptian deserts, where one
of the lesser known battles of World War II was fought by a small yet valiant force of Australians in
the North African port city of Tobruk. Not only did Tobruk facilitate access to one of the greatest ports

Also, in the insightful and detailed words of Mark Owens, if the Axis had managed to seize Tobruk in
1941, there may have been a crisis where the Axis could ve threatened Britain s positioning in both
Egypt and the Middle East (Owens, 2016). The Germans would ve controlled the waters around the
port, allowing them to supply provisions such as oil, food and weaponry to men on the offensive. In
this regard, the German penetration and Iraqi Rebellion would ve continued to infiltrate the area,
giving them control over the Mediterranean and granting them a foothold in the war. Therefore, the
Allies stake in Tobruk allowed them to gain access to one of the greatest ports on the Mediterranean,
ultimately giving them the upper hand over the Axis. The Siege of Tobruk helped boost morale, which
enabled the initial capture of Tobruk, before ultimately assisting the Allies in their success. The
Germans likened the fighting style of Australians to that of rats, with the hopes that this propaganda
would express supreme confidence, reassuring the Australians of their defeat. Convictcreations, who
entertain an Ally perspective, declare that the Nazis discovered that, Germans responded to words of
optimism and success with great heart ; so they employed a similar tactic against the Australians, but

Examination Of Paul s Thesis
In Romans, the Apostle Paul creates a powerful proclamation that salvation and forgiveness of sin is
through faith in Jesus Christ. In a series of questions and historical facts, he builds a case for his
declaration. Examination of Paul s statements provides substantiation of justification by faith
supported by the apostle James teaching.
Paul exposes his thesis by declaring a righteousness from God separate from the law (Rom. 3:21
[NIV]). God s acceptance is available apart from the old legal obedience, foretold by the Law and
Prophets, to all people, through faith and belief in Jesus Christ. From this proposal, he would argue
that history and logic prove Christ as the savior of mankind.
Beginning the argument, Paul establishes his basic

In my high school career my grades have been of great importance to me both at Lemoore High
School and Hanford High School. My whole freshman year I was able to maintain a 4.0. My
sophomore year I did have a little bit of a downfall with my grades but I was put in home studies so
that I could solely focus on my schoolwork and once I was focused again I went back to Hanford
High. My junior year I came to LHS and my grades improved, I ended that year with 6 A s and 1 C.
As of right now I am ending my senior year with a 3.84 GPA which I am very satisfied with. Overall I
am proud of the grades I have kept throughout these four years and I will strive to maintain a high
academic standing as I further my education in college.

Characters In Godspell
Godspell is a musical that is not based in any specific time, but is a brief condensed version of the
New Testament. Specifically related to the Works of Jesus and his followers while he was on earth.
The setting is up to the director to decide. In this case it is set in the highline of New York City. In
previous productions it has been based in a circus setting which can lead the actors to portray a more
sophomoric humor approach to acting. In this show most of the actors don t shy that far from that style
but they tone it down. One thing that does re occur throughout the show is a kind of double acting. As
they portray actors acting the parables. A kind of puppet acting also occurs as there will be a narrator

His character was determined to help these people understand the ways of God and to lead them to
heaven. His objectives came out when the script would pull lines from the Bible. However, they
would be hidden when he too would be an actor of the parables. This is to be expected as his character
is then not meant to draw away from the story itself. His objective is cliche only from the standpoint
of he is a teacher so obviously his objective is to teach and reach out to the lives of others. There is not
a way to break that however because he is Jesus, and that is what his purpose actually was while he
was on earth. His actions would always keep the other characters in check. As if he was a teacher
keeping his class in check. Ultimately the character gives himself up as a sacrifice and dies. However
the actions of this show portray it that he accepts that he is going to be killed and there isn t anything
he can do about it. There is no clear actions that gives the audience faith that he could actually stop
this from happening to himself. The entire cast has a strong chemistry. And is needed in this show as
there are many cases where there are simultaneous things going on that require actions to line up with
lines of others. He does not exactly keep the cast together like his character probably should but he

One of my favorite movies is The Graduate released in 1967 and based on the 1963 novel The

How The Design Of Respiratory System Facilitates Gas...

DESCRIBE HOW THE DESIGN OF RESPIRATORY SYSTEM FACILITATES GAS EXCHANGE?
The most vital phenomenon of life is respiration. Without respiration life is impossible. Respiratory
System, consisting of a number of organs in human body which is taking the function of respiration.
These organs include mouth, nasal passage, glottis, trachea, larynx, pharynx, bronchi, bronchioles,
alveoli and last but not the least the LUNGS. Other supporting orangs are ribs, intercostal muscles,
diagram and cilia.
In the following lines, we ll discuss in detail about these organs and their functions and how the design
of whole RESPIRATORY SYSTEM facilitates gaseous exchange.
The respiratory system is a group of organs that work together to bring the exchange of oxygen and
carbon dioxide into and from the blood. Its main function is to transport oxygen into the body and the
excrete carbon dioxide out of the body. Respiration can occur at two separate levels, the level of the
cell (internal respiration) and the level of the organism (external respiration). Internal respiration is the
exchange of gases between the blood and body cells. External respiration, more commonly known as
breathing, is the exchange of gases between the air and the blood in the lungs.
The respiratory system can be divided into two parts, the upper and the lower respiratory tracts. The
upper respiratory tract consists of the organs which lie outside the chest cavity and these include: the
nasal cavity, the pharynx, the larynx

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a generic, lethal condition characterized by an inability to will
voluntary muscles as desired. The motor neurons responsible for exciting muscular contractions are
deficient and loss of usage in voluntary muscles results in their atrophy. Characterized early in life,
children with SMA exhibit difficulty in early voluntary muscular activities such as crawling, sucking,
imitation of facial expressions, and breathing. Three stage of SMA exist: SMA I for children younger

Genetics of Spinal Muscular Atrophy
In 1995 a French group of researchers discovered that SMA is autosomal recessive disorder due to
loss of the survival motor neuron protein gene (SMN) (Lefebvre et al., 1995). Through
experimentation the researchers discovered two copies of the SMN gene in chromosome five [chr
5q13.2]: telomeric and centromeric SMN copies. Experimentation proved that loss of the telomeric
SMN (today known as SMN1) and not loss of its centromeric counterpart, SMN2, resulted in SMA. It
took an additional six years for researchers to glimpse at the functions provided by SMN1. Meister et
al. categorized the SMN1 protein an essential to promote correct assembly of U12 small
ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs). In genetics, snRNPs are nucleic proteins responsible for the splicing of
premature ribonucleic acid chains (pre mRNA) derived from genes. Without correct splicing, mature
ribonucleic acid chains (mRNAs) produce dysfunctional proteins when translated. In this case,
splicing functionality of U12 intron containing transcripts is lost, and because the transcript is wrongly
coded, its translation will produce a functionless protein. Hence, loss of SMN1 results in an inability
form U12 snRNPs splicing complexes, and reduced splicing functionality results in loss of U12 intron
splicing functionality (Patel and Steitz, 2003). Only recently (2012) did researchers

The name of the rainforest is given by the amount of rainfall it gets per year. In the rainforest the
climate is very hot and humid so the species of plants and animals have to learn to adapt. There are
different types of rainforest there is the amazon rainforest and tropical rainforest also the daintree
rainforest. the Amazon rainforest is the northernwest of brazil ,the tropical rainforest is north or south
of the equator.
The dominant plants are the Bark, Lianas, drip tips, buttresses, prop and stilt roots, epiphytes and
bromeliads. Plants are able to grow and thrive in different environments.
The Rainforest is home to more than half of the world s animals. One of the reason for the rainforest
having this amount of animals

The Effect Of Concentration On Enzymatic Activity Of...
Effects of Concentration on Enzymatic Activity of Salivary Amylase
Rose Cruz
Arapahoe Community College
The purpose of this lab was to see if there was a relationship in the amount of concentration of
salivary amylase to the amount of time it took to break down starch. To determine if varying
concentrations affected the reaction time of the breakdown of starch, we used 4 different dilutions of
salivary amylase and used 2 controls (positive/negative). Amylase is an enzyme responsible for
breaking down starch into sugars. It is hypothesized that a lower concentration of amylase would
cause the breakdown of starch to take a longer period of time or a slower reaction rate as opposed to a
higher concentration of amylase. The results of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the concentration of the reactant (substrate) changes and is increased while the enzyme
concentration stays the same, the higher the concentration, the lower the reaction rate will be for the
enzyme to break down the increased amount of reactant (Factors affecting Enzyme Activity, n.d.). The
same applies for if the concentration of enzyme changes and is increased while other factors stay the
same. The higher the concentration of enzyme, the higher the reaction rate will be as the enzyme
breaks down the reactant. In this experiment concentration affects the enzymatic activity increasing or
decreasing the amount of concentration of amylase in a solution (Factors affecting Enzyme Activity,
n.d.). If there is more concentration of enzyme there are more active sites available for a reaction to
occur (Phenix, n.d.). To see the reaction and breakdown of starch we used Lugol s Iodine Reagent
since it turns black in the presence of starch (Bauer and Norman, 2015, p. 92). We placed mixtures of
the amylase and starch solutions in each of the wells containing Lugol s Iodine at 30 second intervals.
Depending on what solution was used and how the amylase broke down the starch, the color change
was noted over time. Due to the information about how concentration affects the reaction rate of an
enzyme and substrate, we figured that a lower concentration of amylase would cause a slower reaction
rate meaning that with a

important in helping the company define itself to its employees.
However, outside of the senior management team an all encompassing belief in the culture is less
pervasive, and use of the culture as a management tool is less effective. An employee s understanding
of the company culture is impact by the employee s national cultures and the location of business unit.
Outside of the United States, particular in my experience in Asia, when the company s credo is
translated into local languages, like Chinese and Thai, the words often do not carry the same meaning.
Even with transliterate the credo is not easily understood. This was recognized by Halsall in 2008 who
noted that national cultures may share different common values creating a challenge for standardized
management practices. We also seen that whilst many employees appreciate the credo their motivation
is driven by other needs, such as the security that the wage brings, and the impact that the financial
rewards can bring to their families. In these instances the level of the financial reward far out weights
the importance of company culture or working environment.

Rama And Jesus Comparison Essay
Religions will always compare and contrast one another. For they are all based on the belief of higher
being(s) and must follow a path of righteousness. Rama and Jesus shared this among other things: they
both honored their father s and resisted temptations that arose throughout their journeys. The major
difference noticed is the sacrifices: Jesus had to die to save the humans from our sins, while Rama
brought this with his dharma. Dharma is the religious and moral law, Rama is devoted to this for his
entire life. Rama is so dedicated to this life that he cannot deviate from it. I cannot swerve from the
path of dharma which demands that I should implicitly obey our father (NAWLA, 695). His honor for
the sacred path is exactly why he is considered a noble man. Because his father made a promise to one
of his wives many years ago, Rama must now pay the cost. He was told that he had to go on a fourteen
year journey through the forest before he could become king. Rama went without a ... Show more

Lord Visnu who sent himself to earth to destroy the king of Lanka who was seen as demonic. Jesus
was sent to earth to make sure that the people resisted sin and evil. Temptation followed Rama
throughout his life but he continuously denied it. He was confronted with symbols of wealth, lust, and
power, yet he resisted. He battled against his ego and exorcised his self. By doing this he was able to

The Clothing And Fashion Industry
Consumers in the Fashion Industry
The topic I chose to write about was the clothing and fashion industry. Clothing is something that
everyone in modern society needs, and something that a few consumers care very much about. The
number one thing clothing is used for, besides covering and protecting our bodies, is to express our
personalities, socioeconomic status, and how we feel on a given day. Because the the demographic for
people who buy clothes is so large, it has a lot of variation. People buy clothes of many different
qualities and prices, or they make their own.
The reference work I have cited is The Berg Fashion Library. This is a very in depth and detailed
website about history, current events and trends in what people wear around the world. Although, I
don t think this encyclopedia has any information on consumers themselves. The encyclopedia gives
you resources and access to articles on any clothing item, in any part of the the world, in any time
period. Berg Fashion Library does not give much analysis on the clothing items or history, it just
presents you resources that can give you more detailed information. The only objective of this
reference work is to give data about fashion history. The encyclopedia is very relevant and has articles
about the the most cutting edge trends. These articles do a very good job giving a brief evaluation of
the topics, while not conveying any opinions about the fashion industry.
The web site I am evaluating is just style.com.

Mandatory Government Spending In The United States
The government is trying to cut down on their government spending by changing the way they do the
census. As of now, they are spending 17 billion dollars on the preparation and the actual census. With
their new plan, they plan to save 5 billion dollars. They are experimenting in L.A. right now. The plan
is to send several notices to the citizens that tells them to go online and ask them questions about the
owner and the amount of people living in each home. However, Blumerman, the director of the
decennial census, expects 60,000 out of 225,000 homes not to respond. These homes will get a worker
from the census sent to them. In order to save money, the workers will use an iPad to get rid of the
costs of paper. The iPad is also a benefit because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are experimenting on L.A. now to see if there is any way to save money with a different process.
The census is done every ten years. The government counts the population in each state to see if they
need to add or subtract a seat in the House of Representatives. This allows the people to be
represented equally based on their state. Also the government is going to save a lot of money with
their new techniques. This is okay because it isn t one of the mandatory spendings that the government
has. It would be a discretionary spending because it isn t entitlement programs. They will save money
by finding new routes with the post office which is one of the biggest government corporations. They
will also try to limit going to abandon houses. However with the prices going down, it may cause
firing or census employees. This will be hard because it is difficult to hire and fire government
officials. Also with this new experiment, all people who speak a different language will be able to be
easily represented. This will hopefully allow the house to be more accurate on who they are
representing. The more diverse the house is the more opinions and views the government gets to see.
This is what democracy is all about. The census is under the leadership of the department of
commerce. This means it is an umbrella style because the department of commerce branches off to the
U.S. census bureau, so it s not the number one focus. Hopefully with these new experiments
gerrymandering will also be done less often. The new plan for the census will not only decrease
government spending, but it will also help with

War And Trade Between 1783-1860
War and Trade In between 1783 1860, the United States had many trade routes. One of the biggest
traders we have partnered with is Europe. We have traded about a value of $50 billion dollars or more
with Europe. Europe and America did not have conflict, there was too much at stake. Both were
making a lot of money off of each other, so if they went to war they would both most likely lose
money.War and trade were overlapping other places possibly because of money , also because of who
is trading with who and what they re trading. Trading agricultural goods and industrial goods was a
good thing, until trade partners started fighting. If trade led to war it had to have been because of
money. It also could have been because

Strength And Strength Of Muscular Endurance
Strength Muscular strength is much different from muscular endurance. Strength is the extent to how
much force your muscles can use and apply. Strength concentrates more on quick and short spurts of
energy. An example of how this component of fitness can be tested in an assessment is in the Upper
body push and pull strength test . For this test the equipment used is a Strength Meter dynamometer.
You have three tries when doing this test and the best of three is recorded for each test (the push and
then the pull) and the dynamometer must be set to zero each time. This assessment works by the
person taking the test having the Strength Meter dynamometer placed over their shoulders where the

The participants must continuously run between two cones or lines which are set up 20 metres apart
between two recorded beeps. The CD had all the instructions on and will tell the participants when to
start; the first level is a slight jog and gradually gets quicker up through the levels. If you reach one of
the lines before the beep has sounded then you must wait for it to sound before you start running
again. Before you drop out you have to miss three consecutive beeps (one after another). Speed Speed
is the skill to move with a quick pace or move parts of the body quickly. When you think about speed
you usually think its how fast someone can run but it s not just that, as it s also to do with their
acceleration, maximal speed of movement and speed maintenance. This is because speed needs other
components to help it move along in a rapid way, which includes: strength and power. An example of
how this component of fitness can be tested in an assessment is the 100m Swim Time Trial . This test

type of person the Pardoner is along with how money can be evil. In The Canterbury Tales, The
Pardoner s Tale , provides the most moral meaning compared to The Wife of Bath s Tale by stating
that greed can manipulate people into plotting unspeakable actions unto each other. In the prologue of
The Pardoner s Tale , he describes himself and he is also states that he is a preacher who is only after

sins. The preacer is there to listen to the people and repent them. He on the other does not care about
the sins individuals have committed because he is after their money only. Helping the sinned
individuals does not motivate him: money does. He even goes as far saying he does not care where his

The Evolution of Management Thought
The Evolution of Management Thought
Through the practice of management and the continued development of commerce and wealth we are
transforming our lives. In Massachusetts (USA) in the 1850s the life expectancy of a male would have
been 37 years of age and a female 40: in 1929 it was 58 for a male and 61 for a female; nowadays life
expectancy would be in the region 70 80 years.
While appreciating the past success of management we would also recognize that today s accelerating
pace of change is putting pressure on our organizations to be at the forefront of management thinking.
If we want to maintain our standard of living our rate of change has to be comparative to the rest of
the world.
But our present day management thinking has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our legal system is based on this misconception.
Into this growing of industrial society comes another Scot Daniel McCallum as President of the New
York to Eire Railroad. In 1854 he was facing specific problems related to the size of his organization
and a workforce that was in the main uneducated. His workers were immigrant and with an
agricultural background and not used to a factory discipline imposed by management. In this
environment he determines sound management as being based on: * Good discipline * Specific and
detailed job descriptions * Frequent and accurate reporting of performance * Pay and promotion based
on merit * Clearly defined hierarchy of superiors and subordinates * Enforcement of personal
responsibility and accountability. * The search for and correction of errors
From this thinking he follows the classic hierarchical organization chart.
Charles Darwin s work on The Origin of the Species is published in 1859. Herbert Spencer (1820
1903) subsequently develops the theme of survival of the fittest in his Social Darwinism. Our society
accepts the essential nature of competition, survival of the fittest and adulation of winners.

The South China Se The Sea Lies A String Of 14 Islands And...
Somewhere off the coast of Southeast Asia in the South China sea lies a string of 14 islands and reefs.
These reefs and islands are the center of an international dispute of sorts. Six surrounding countries
lay claim to at least a few of the islands, but China claims them all. Including the sea surrounding
them. All the Spratly Islands are claimed by China, Taiwan and Vietnam, while parts of them are
claimed by Brunei, Malaysia and the Philippines. But according to China, their territorial rights to the
islands and sea date back over 2,000 years from ancestors who discovered, named and explored the
South China sea (The World Factbook: Spratly Islands) (Livingstone).
Largely unexplored, the islands include approximately 100 inlets, coral reefs and sea mounts for a
total of less than 5 km of land scattered over 158,000 square miles and are located in the midst of
international shipping lanes. (The World Factbook: Spratly Islands)
The natural resources seem to be part of the struggle for control of the Spratlys. There are differing
opinions on the amount of oil and natural gas the islands hold. China s claim is the islands and the
surrounding sea are home to 125 billion gallons of oil and 500 trillion cubic feet of natural gas but the
United States disagrees. The U.S. Geological Survey disputes the numbers, instead estimating that the
region holds 5 to 22 billion barrels of oil and 70 to 290 trillion cubic feet of gas a sizable difference

Thin Blue Line And The Fog Of War Essay
The essay film, as contextualized in this course by Agnès Varda and Ross McElwee, has been defined
by many traits, perhaps most notable in the physical presence of said directors in their films; at times
on screen, at times in voiceovers, sometimes a combination of thereof. Over the span of several class
meetings, this particular trait (the film maker s presence a la Varda and McElwee) and its implications
became the epicenter of most discussions, as well as the assumed baseline by which other directors
would be critiqued. In this paper, the argument advanced is that by the standard(s) that emerged from
the class discussions and evaluations of the aforementioned directors, Errol Morris specifically in his
films The Thin Blue Line and The Fog of War technically is not an essayistic film maker. However,
this stance also states that Morris is a film essayist by other means, in that Morris simply implements
Laura Rascaroli s thoughts on reflectivity and subjectivity in a form dissimilar to Varda and McElwee.

On top of exceptional students getting declined, prestigious schools are accepting less qualified
students such as legacies, athletes, and minorities, contributing to the flawed system. Rather than
admitting students based on their potential to succeed and personal attributes alone, universities often

dedicated alumni. In A is For Admission, Michele Hernandez mentions some of these discrepancies

Starting in high school, students are not given equal opportunities to excel because of family
background. Furthermore, the admissions process itself has its flaws legacies, minorities, and athletes
are being chosen over exceptionally gifted valedictorians. Even after college, the problems do not end;
possible joblessness and student debt are unavoidable. On top of these major problems, educators and
parents continue to convince kids everywhere that college is the only option to become successful, and
choosing another path is heavily looked down upon. The newest generation s life is centered around
the climax of college while at the same time, more and more students are unable to attend universities
because of cost or rejection, but this is a paradox. The more high schoolers work hard, the more high
schoolers will get turned down to their dream schools, and the more the college admissions process
effectively become a lottery, leading to many highly talented, brilliant, creative people thinking they re

Rather than working to fix the unfixable, adults must stop putting such emphasis on the college
pathway, and instead stress that there are other options. The future of the job world is unknown; there
is no way to know if an expensive college education is the right choice. College, with all of its flaws,

Symbolism Of Water In Siddhartha
From the instant Siddhartha began his journey to reach enlightenment, water became an essential

Comparing Black And Brown Cultures
Both Black and Brown cultures seem to share a lot of common similarities and differences with each
other such as, friendships, family orientations, and/or religious traditions. From the people I had the
privileged to interview, have certainly granted me a much firmer grasp of the valid idea of what Black
culture, or Black societies seem to stem from. I was given the impression that young Black boys, and
girls tend to be taught survivalist values and beliefs, in order to be more independently strong, and
capable to looking out for themselves in any situation. The phrase that I learned to be very important,
and to always have on your belt as an African American, is to have some good Street Smarts . That
can be traced back to the previous topic, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Survivalist s, is something I could label Black culture philosophy because of their strong sense of will,
and strong believe in the word of God. It is apparent that their motives, and their reality seems to have
close ties to their Christian believes. The Grandparents, teach their children those same traditions that
are then passed down to the next generation to mold them, and to keep those same traditional values.
Brown cultures do things somewhat similarly, but they are not as strict in church dress code as Black
culture is. Brown cultures love cookout gatherings; that would consist of Tacos, Posole, Menudo, or
Tamales. These are Mexican cuisines that are passed down from Mexico, to every family s next
generations to come. However, Black cultures would prefer more of Ribs, Brisket, some Chicken,
Pork (Ham), or Links in those kinds of environments. Also, sauces and dressings are a key part of
Black culture as much as the food is. This is also something of a traditional kind of delicacies for both
sides, which takes place every weekend, especially somewhere in the Oakcliff

John Benet Ramsey Case
You succinctly described the errors in the Jon Benet Ramsey investigation and her subsequent
unsolved murder. A highly publicized case, Jon Benet Ramsey s tragic death is a lesson learned for
law enforcement agencies to making sure that crime scene preservation and processing procedures are
constantly reviewed and trained. These protocols and procedures exist in order to achieve continuity
of the chain of evidence and the integrity of trace evidence gathered (Julian, Kelty Robertson, 2012).
As investigators, they only have one chance and when a crime scene has been contaminated like the
Ramsey s Boulder, CO home was it opens the door for a miscarriage of justice to occur. This case was

Magna Carta Vs English Bill Of Rights Analysis
During the formation of the United States, colonists were receptive to the governments that came
before them. Earlier governments, set strong precedents, and taught American Colonists the favored
methods of creating constitutions. Two examples of ideal constitutions were the Magna Carta and the
English Bill of Rights. The Magna Carta and the English Bill of Rights were viewed by the colonists
and were stepping stones for the creation of the United States. Specific segments of these documents
were taken and transferred to the United States Constitution, due to the overall proof of success and
benefits that it presented to earlier governments. Without some of the principles set in these two
documents, the United States might not have been the way we see it today. In England, the year 1215,
the Magna Carta stood as the earliest example of a document limiting the king s power. Many of the
principles set by the Magna Carta, such as the rule of law, basic rights, and government by agreement
were transferred to the American Constitution. The most important principle transferred, however, was
the idea of limited government. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since it was written in 1689, it has been an important cornerstone of the British constitution. This Bill
contained two important principles : the rule of law and human rights and freedoms. As the most well
known example, the document gives us freedom of the press, freedom of speech, and freedom of
religion. These freedoms established by the English Bill of Rights are related to the natural rights
philosophy in many ways. One of these ways is because of the basic human rights. When we are born,
from the first breath we take, we are given the right of life, liberty, and estate. Press, speech/opinion,
and religion are all included in living. By allowing us to have these choices, it is only giving the bare

Military Substance Abuse
Research conducted by Miller et al. (2013) expands upon this hypothesis by assessing the risk factors
of substance abuse among individuals with a mild traumatic brain injury. Results from the study
suggest that all military personnel who suffer from a mild cranial injury are at a significant risk of
developing a substance use disorder. Similarly, to the research conducted by Wagner et al., (2007),
alcohol was the number one substance in which military members overindulged. Researchers assert
that although physical symptoms heal rather quickly, the psychological sequelae will span a lifetime.

In an effort to determine the impact of social support during a deployment, a study conducted by
Delahij, Kamphuis and Van Den Berg (2016) conducts a comparative analysis of how family support
promotes self efficacy. Traditionally, family is one categorical layer of support, when in reality it is
multifaceted. For this experiment, researchers focused on the perceived level of support from a service
member s family. Participants for this experimentation were North Atlantic Treaty Organization
military personnel providing direct support to the International Security Assistance Force. Service
members would document at the end of each month of their deployment the interactions with their
family members. Measuring actual support would be difficult due to the variety of communications
methods utilized in today society; therefore, researchers focused on the perception of support.
Furthermore, an individual who is in constant communication with their family may not feel as
supported than an individual with sporadic interactions may; thus, social support is subjective.
Measurements ranged across a continuum starting with service members who felt no support to
unwavering support. An additional goal of researchers was to measure the context of conversations
based on the service member s interpretation. For

Paper Airplane Challenges
Working with a new team can be a challenging effort as is; however, working with a team who was
constantly required to join other teams can place a strain on team dynamics to an even further extent.
Composed of only three individuals, working effectively together was often a very difficult task for
my team, as we were repeatedly obligated to join other groups throughout activities. This put pressure
on not only our team but others as no one was familiar with the team dynamics of each group except
for the members of that team. This was most noticeable during the paper airplane challenge and
having to join another team to discuss a case study. The paper airplane activity captivated the
challenges of a team as one of our group members was absent that class, and we were ... Show more

As this newly formed team had to spend a portion of its time developing and maintaining the
dynamics of a new team, rather than being productive and focused on the task is an example of the
process loss concept of team challenges (McShane, Steen, Tasa, 2015) This concept of process loss
then escalated as joining a group late results in a longer time spent on understanding how these new
members would transition well with the current ones (McShane, Steen, Tasa, 2015). Combining with
other groups also introduced the notion of social loafing which is defined as the process in which
individuals are seemingly less motivated when working in teams and will exert less effort compared if
they were working alone (McShane, Steen, Tasa, 2015). This concept was especially apparent for the
airplane activity as we now had a team that consisted of six members, making some members feel less
valued compared to others. A decrease in value then resulted which was noticeable when some
individuals would not participate and others not would not put much effort into this

How Deflation Impacted The Commodity Market And The Labor...
Introduction Since the global economic crisis happened in 2008, it had a severe impact on the
worldwide economy. Many countries experienced a great recession for a long time period, which
made hundreds of thousands of people lost their jobs, large number of firms failed to pay back the
loan and many investment banks went to bankruptcy. Recently, we found that many countries hadn t
yet come out from the big shock of the financial crisis; they started facing a disastrous influence on
deflation. Deflation was the reduction in the price of goods and services, which was an indication to
show that the economic conditions were bad at that moment. In this essay, I would focus on discussing
how deflation impacted the commodity market and the labor market and how to use policies to relieve
the deflation. Deflation Impact on the Commodity Market Recently, we found that the oil price
dropped a lot; one year ago, a barrel of Brent crude cost $110 and today it was merely $60, which
resulted in 45% decrease in the oil price through economies. Not only did the oil price cut, the price of
goods and services also dropped in the worldwide economy. When the price of goods and services
declined, consumers would like to consume more and purchase more products, because they could pay
less to get the same thing as before. And for firms, cheaper inputs lowered the cost of manufacturing
goods, which resulted in the increase in the overall profit. What s more, we all know that energy use
(oil) is

  • 2. Satan As An Epic Hero In John Milton s Paradise Lost John Milton s Paradise Lost has long been a widely contested, appreciated and debated epic poem largely due to the presentation of Satan as an epic hero. Throughout the body of this essay, using a close reading of Book 2, lines 657 669 in relation to the entirety of the poem, I will explore the ways in which Milton portrays Satan in accordance to conventions of the hero within the epic genre as well as dispelling any challenges to the idea of Satan as an epic hero in Paradise Lost. Adhering to as well as challenging the conventions of the epic genre, Milton portrays Satan as heroic, determined to form a new equilibrium for himself and his followers. Declaring For this eternal pit shall never hold (Milton 2008), Satan presents God as a ruthless tyrant entrapping Satan and the devils and inspires morale with the idea that they re more powerful than the confines subjected to them. The epic hero traditionally serves as an inspiration to his followers. Additionally, Satan leaves Pandemonium Hurling defiance towards the vault of Heaven (Milton 2008); Milton imagines Satan as a mighty force who defies his enemy in the face of adversity to avenge his mistreatment. As Milton s early audiences would ve been aware of Satan s infamy as a religious figure, his decision to display Satan as heroic subverts the idea of the morally driven epic protagonist. Furthermore, Milton s presentation of Satan has proved contentious, For roughly three centuries, readers have demanded justice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tar Baby, Sula and Paradise all deal with the issue of abandonment and how it relates to the characters in her stories. Through her fiction, Toni Morrison intends to present problems, not their answers (Moon). Her stated aim is to show how to survive whole in a world where we are all of us, in some measure, victims of something. Unlike Howard University, where black culture was neglected or minimized, at Texas Southern they celebrated black heritage with Negro history week and introduced to her the idea of black culture as a discipline rather than just personal family reminiscences. Morrison s discovery of the minimization of the black culture in the school that she attended may be looked upon as the abandonment of her roots and her black culture. This idea of abandoning the black culture is the main theme in her novel, Tar Baby. Tar Baby is also a name, like nigger, that white people call black children, black girls, as I recall . At one time, a tar pit was a holy place, at least an important place, because tar was used to build things . It held together things like Moses little boat and the pyramids. For me, the tar baby came to mean the black woman who can hold things together. ( An Interview 255) Toni Morrison s Tar Baby (1982), is a novel about contentions and conflicts based on learned biases and prejudices. These biases exist on a race level, gender level, and a class level. The central conflict, however, is the conflict within the main character, Jadine. This conflict, as Andrew W. A. LaVallee has suggested, is the conflict of the race traitor. It is the conflict of a woman who has discarded her heritage and culture and adopted another trying to reconcile herself to the night ... A person should be considered an adult when they mature. And by mature i mean he/she reasons better, makes better choices, knows the consequences for making bad decisions, and are able to stand on their own. Standing on their own is a big factor in being an adult because that s when u are able to support yourself and not depend on parents financially and emotionally. And being able to do that and supporting yourself means you don t need others which i believe makes a person an adult. Reasoning better is also a sign of adulthood. Because most teenagers aren t able to reason as good as most older people which leads to making the wrong decision which can lead to trouble. And at the age of 18 the brain still isn t fully developed which makes people not responsible yet. Biological Factors of Human Relationships Biological factors are something that contributes hugely to the formation and maintenance of relationships whether it is romantic, friendly or family related. Many researchers have conducted studies in which they have attempted to try and explain the link between biological factors and human relationships. The development of a relationship from the first and early stages of love to the more developed stages, couples tend to move from the passionate love to the more intimate relationship of relaxation, dependency, and security which all play into attachment. In 1969 Bowlby suggested, Humans have an innate attachment system which consists of specific behaviours and psychological responses called attachment behaviours. For his experiment it mainly was conducted for research on mother child relationships however many believe that the results are relatable to both mother child and romantic relationships. According to more modern research, it has been shown that both oxytocin a powerful hormone which is released in men and women during touching and sex which helps to deepen and intensify the feelings of the select attachment and vasopressin a hormone released also during sex help in increasing the bond that is between two lovers. Through this it helps the couples to feel closer and more bonded. One of the main criticisms of this experiment was the complexity of the researched relationships and how since they didn t consider other factors that might affect the results, therefore resulting in the possibility that it could be unreliable. The Hidden Assault On Our Civil Rights By Kenji Yoshino It is not uncommon for people to wear a mask when trying to hide something they wish not to share, but when it starts to impacting them and other people around them negatively, it becomes a problem. Having to hide aspects of one s life just to fit in with the rest of society is something that is unnecessary, even if one feels that it is needed. Kenji Yoshino is the Chief Justice Earl Warren professor of Constitutional Law at New York University. Yoshino is also the author of the book, Covering: The Hidden Assault On Our Civil Rights. In New Civil Rights, Kenji Yoshino talks about covering as Covering is to tone down a disfavored identity to fit into the mainstream (Yoshino 552). Although covering in society is something that appears to be normal, having to hide a part of one s life can impact them negatively because they cannot express who they really are. Expressing oneself should be considered the normal, not hiding how they wish to express about themselves. Its format is comparable to the structure of pediatric growth charts, and is divided into four distinct developmental domains: personal social, fine motor adaptive, language, and gross motor. The test can be administered with ease, in less than an hour and scoring is based on observation, and parental reporting (Encyclopedia of Autism Spectrum Disorders). Many characters go through similar circumstances as Chaucer uses these themes to help each tale parallel another. For example, the Wife of Bath s Tale and The Nun s Priests Tale, uses the theme of textual evidence as a basis of reasoning of men to overpower women. The two tales that parallel each other the most are The Miller s Tale and The Summoner s Tale. The theme of immoral characters becomes quite disturbing when people who claimed to be devoted to the Lord are partaking in such dishonorable acts. Dishonorable acts such as their treatment of women show how they neglect their priesthood and are not truly men of God. The priests within the Miller and Summoner s Tales disregard their vows of chastity and pursue women in order to fulfill their desires of sex. Absolon, the incense swinger at the church vows for the love a young married women, Alison. Absolon is fully aware of Alison s marriage, but is still very persistent in his attempts to try and woo her. One of his schemes to make Alison think fondly of him involved him sending her, honey wine, mead and spiced.....and as she [lived] in town, he [proffered] cash (The Millers Tale 88). With his expensive gifts of food and cash leads readers to believe that he is breaking another vow, poverty. His lust for this one woman drives him to spend essentially the church s money since priests are supposed to take vows of poverty and refrain from living gluttonously. His desires for Alison portray him as a clear contrast to what priests are expected to act like and in a sense, morally corrupt. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning. (Churchill, 1942) After months of incongruity between British and American war planners regarding the viability of a cross channel invasion in 1940, the Americans accepted the British strategy and approved the North African Campaign. It included campaigns fought in the Libyan and Egyptian deserts, where one of the lesser known battles of World War II was fought by a small yet valiant force of Australians in the North African port city of Tobruk. The Germans would ve controlled the waters around the port, allowing them to supply provisions such as oil, food and weaponry to men on the offensive. In this regard, the German penetration and Iraqi Rebellion would ve continued to infiltrate the area, giving them control over the Mediterranean and granting them a foothold in the war. Therefore, the Allies stake in Tobruk allowed them to gain access to one of the greatest ports on the Mediterranean, ultimately giving them the upper hand over the Axis. The Siege of Tobruk helped boost morale, which enabled the initial capture of Tobruk, before ultimately assisting the Allies in their success. Without respiration life is impossible. Respiratory System, consisting of a number of organs in human body which is taking the function of respiration. These organs include mouth, nasal passage, glottis, trachea, larynx, pharynx, bronchi, bronchioles, alveoli and last but not the least the LUNGS. Other supporting orangs are ribs, intercostal muscles, diagram and cilia. In the following lines, we ll discuss in detail about these organs and their functions and how the design of whole RESPIRATORY SYSTEM facilitates gaseous exchange. The respiratory system is a group of organs that work together to bring the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide into and from the blood. Its main function is to transport oxygen into the body and the excrete carbon dioxide out of the body. Respiration can occur at two separate levels, the level of the cell (internal respiration) and the level of the organism (external respiration). Internal respiration is the exchange of gases between the blood and body cells. External respiration, more commonly known as breathing, is the exchange of gases between the air and the blood in the lungs. The respiratory system can be divided into two parts, the upper and the lower respiratory tracts. The upper respiratory tract consists of the organs which lie outside the chest cavity and these include: the nasal cavity, the pharynx, the larynx ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Genetics of Spinal Muscular Atrophy In 1995 a French group of researchers discovered that SMA is autosomal recessive disorder due to loss of the survival motor neuron protein gene (SMN) (Lefebvre et al., 1995). Through experimentation the researchers discovered two copies of the SMN gene in chromosome five [chr 5q13.2]: telomeric and centromeric SMN copies. Experimentation proved that loss of the telomeric SMN (today known as SMN1) and not loss of its centromeric counterpart, SMN2, resulted in SMA. It took an additional six years for researchers to glimpse at the functions provided by SMN1. Meister et al. categorized the SMN1 protein an essential to promote correct assembly of U12 small ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs). In genetics, snRNPs are nucleic proteins responsible for the splicing of premature ribonucleic acid chains (pre mRNA) derived from genes. Without correct splicing, mature ribonucleic acid chains (mRNAs) produce dysfunctional proteins when translated. In this case, splicing functionality of U12 intron containing transcripts is lost, and because the transcript is wrongly coded, its translation will produce a functionless protein. Hence, loss of SMN1 results in an inability form U12 snRNPs splicing complexes, and reduced splicing functionality results in loss of U12 intron splicing functionality (Patel and Steitz, 2003). Effects of Concentration on Enzymatic Activity of Salivary Amylase Rose Cruz Arapahoe Community College The purpose of this lab was to see if there was a relationship in the amount of concentration of salivary amylase to the amount of time it took to break down starch. To determine if varying concentrations affected the reaction time of the breakdown of starch, we used 4 different dilutions of salivary amylase and used 2 controls (positive/negative). If the concentration of the reactant (substrate) changes and is increased while the enzyme concentration stays the same, the higher the concentration, the lower the reaction rate will be for the enzyme to break down the increased amount of reactant (Factors affecting Enzyme Activity, n.d.). The same applies for if the concentration of enzyme changes and is increased while other factors stay the same. The higher the concentration of enzyme, the higher the reaction rate will be as the enzyme breaks down the reactant. In this experiment concentration affects the enzymatic activity increasing or decreasing the amount of concentration of amylase in a solution (Factors affecting Enzyme Activity, n.d.). If there is more concentration of enzyme there are more active sites available for a reaction to occur (Phenix, n.d.). To see the reaction and breakdown of starch we used Lugol s Iodine Reagent since it turns black in the presence of starch (Bauer and Norman, 2015, p. 92). We placed mixtures of the amylase and starch solutions in each of the wells containing Lugol s Iodine at 30 second intervals. Depending on what solution was used and how the amylase broke down the starch, the color change was noted over time. We have traded about a value of $50 billion dollars or more with Europe. Europe and America did not have conflict, there was too much at stake. Strength concentrates more on quick and short spurts of energy. An example of how this component of fitness can be tested in an assessment is in the Upper body push and pull strength test . For this test the equipment used is a Strength Meter dynamometer. You have three tries when doing this test and the best of three is recorded for each test (the push and then the pull) and the dynamometer must be set to zero each time. Before you drop out you have to miss three consecutive beeps (one after another). Speed Speed is the skill to move with a quick pace or move parts of the body quickly. When you think about speed you usually think its how fast someone can run but it s not just that, as it s also to do with their acceleration, maximal speed of movement and speed maintenance. This is because speed needs other components to help it move along in a rapid way, which includes: strength and power. An example of how this component of fitness can be tested in an assessment is the 100m Swim Time Trial . This test is used to measure the participant s ability to sprint swim a given distance, in this case 100m in a timed environment. Her neighbor, Susan Savage noticed cobwebs in her windows and yellowing pile of letters in her mailbox. She reached through a broken window to unlock the door and she reached upstairs, she found Vickers s mummified boy near a heater that was running at that time. Near the body, Vickers s computer was also running. The Los Angeles Times posted a story, which quickly went viral throughout the country. Within two weeks, Vickers s lonesome death was already the subject to thousands of Facebook posts and tweets. Including the sea surrounding them. All the Spratly Islands are claimed by China, Taiwan and Vietnam, while parts of them are claimed by Brunei, Malaysia and the Philippines. But according to China, their territorial rights to the islands and sea date back over 2,000 years from ancestors who discovered, named and explored the South China sea (The World Factbook: Spratly Islands) (Livingstone). Thin Blue Line And The Fog Of War Essay The essay film, as contextualized in this course by Agnès Varda and Ross McElwee, has been defined by many traits, perhaps most notable in the physical presence of said directors in their films; at times on screen, at times in voiceovers, sometimes a combination of thereof. Over the span of several class meetings, this particular trait (the film maker s presence a la Varda and McElwee) and its implications became the epicenter of most discussions, as well as the assumed baseline by which other directors would be critiqued. In this paper, the argument advanced is that by the standard(s) that emerged from the class discussions and evaluations of the aforementioned directors, Errol Morris specifically in his films The Thin Blue Line and The Fog of War technically is not an essayistic film maker. On top of these major problems, educators and parents continue to convince kids everywhere that college is the only option to become successful, and choosing another path is heavily looked down upon. The newest generation s life is centered around the climax of college while at the same time, more and more students are unable to attend universities because of cost or rejection, but this is a paradox. The more high schoolers work hard, the more high schoolers will get turned down to their dream schools, and the more the college admissions process effectively become a lottery, leading to many highly talented, brilliant, creative people thinking they re not (Robinson). Many countries experienced a great recession for a long time period, which made hundreds of thousands of people lost their jobs, large number of firms failed to pay back the loan and many investment banks went to bankruptcy. Recently, we found that many countries hadn t yet come out from the big shock of the financial crisis; they started facing a disastrous influence on deflation. Deflation was the reduction in the price of goods and services, which was an indication to show that the economic conditions were bad at that moment. In this essay, I would focus on discussing how deflation impacted the commodity market and the labor market and how to use policies to relieve the deflation. Deflation Impact on the Commodity Market Recently, we found that the oil price dropped a lot; one year ago, a barrel of Brent crude cost $110 and today it was merely $60, which resulted in 45% decrease in the oil price through economies. Not only did the oil price cut, the price of goods and services also dropped in the worldwide economy. When the price of goods and services declined, consumers would like to consume more and purchase more products, because they could pay less to get the same thing as before. And for firms, cheaper inputs lowered the cost of manufacturing goods, which resulted in the increase in the overall profit. What s more, we all know that energy use (oil) is ...
