How To Write A Rogerian Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of "How To Write A Rogerian Essay" can be quite challenging for
several reasons. First and foremost, the Rogerian essay approach itself is distinctive and requires
a nuanced understanding of argumentation. Unlike traditional argumentative essays that often
involve a clear-cut stance, a Rogerian essay aims to find common ground and understanding
between opposing viewpoints.
The difficulty lies in striking the right balance between presenting the opposing perspectives
objectively and fostering a sense of empathy and understanding among readers. Crafting a
Rogerian essay necessitates thorough research to grasp the intricacies of both sides of the
argument. It's crucial to avoid sounding biased or favoring one viewpoint over the other, which
adds an additional layer of complexity to the writing process.
Furthermore, maintaining a respectful and conciliatory tone throughout the essay is essential, as
the goal is to establish a sense of cooperation rather than confrontation. This requires careful
choice of language, consideration of the target audience, and a strategic arrangement of
arguments to create a harmonious flow.
In essence, writing a Rogerian essay demands a high level of critical thinking, research skills, and
a deep understanding of the nuances involved in mediating opposing viewpoints. It is a task that
requires finesse in argumentation, as well as the ability to navigate complex ideas while
maintaining a neutral and respectful tone.
For those who find this task daunting or time-consuming, it's worth noting that there are
resources available to help. Similar essays and more can be ordered on HelpWriting.net, where

Rogerian essay or any other writing challenge they may encounter.

British Troop s Fault
I believe that it was the British Troop s fault. They really did not have to shoot the
colonists. Even if it was for self defense, they did not have to shoot. The colonists
were only just protesting. It is the British Troop s fault because they sent more troops
to Boston, they panicked, and they killed and injured colonists.First, the British
Government sent more troops to Boston to enforce the new acts the British
Parliament made. They ought to have known how much the settlers hated their
presence in the colony. However, the British kept on sending lobster backs there.
They likewise sent very young, unpracticed, and rude troops to Boston. The fighters
didn t have the life experience and information to de raise a stressful situation. The
The April Fool s Mistake
I do not think that Eugene TV stations overreacted about the April fool s joke.
When you are putting something out into the media that involves being dishonest,
you have to be very careful about the way that you go about it. This whole joke was
not thought out well enough and the timing was way off. When the TV stations
called to ask if it was true, the Emerald s director of media relations should have just
fessed up to the joke and told the truth. This poorly planned joke would have just
been written off and nobody would have cared about it. Although, she decided against
that and thought lying would get them more publicity which in the end got them bad
publicity. Lying to the media is the world move as a public relationsrepresentative.
This then takes away all the credibility that the organization has taken years to build

I would of much rather this thoughtless plan just disappears then it became a public
relations nightmare. There is plenty of time for the Emerald s to think of new
public relations campaign that can raise their business. If I were her I would have
also timed my joke a little better so that if it became a disaster, I would have time
to fix my mistakes before it showed up in the morning news on local television.
Also, I would advise against responding that she did not anticipate getting those
phone calls. I am not really sure what she was expecting for after releasing that sort
of news. The TV reporters were a little nicer with their comments than I would have
been if someone lied to me. If I was her, I would come out with an apology and
explain myself to the full extent and say that I understood that I lost my credibility
but I would work tirelessly to gain back their respect. Instead, she tried to brush it
under the table as if it was not a very big
Rhetorical Analysis Of Success Is Counted Sweetest
Rhetorical Analysis Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address and Emily
Dickinson s Success is Counted Sweet, are two inspirational pieces of art that fall
under two different types of discourses. The Second Inaugural Address, is a great
example and definition of what Rhetoric is. It encompasses all four resources of
languages argument, appeal, arrangement, and artistic devices. Success is Counted
Sweet, doesn t cover the four resources of language that apply to rhetoric; therefore,
it is categorized as a poem. According to the chapter, rhetoric addresses unresolved
issues that do not dictate a particular outcome and in the process it engages our value
commitments. (15). We see how Lincoln s inaugural speech tries to engage... Show

He states how both, the North and South, read the same Bible and pray to the same
God, and neither the North nor South expected for the war the magnitude or the
duration which it attained. Lincoln also maintains an optimistic tone throughout
the speech and invokes unity with his parallel structured sentences. Emily
Dickinson s Success is Counted Sweetest, doesn t cover all four resources of
language. It is a poem that does not call for action but does create an emotional
appeal for the people. Throughout her poem, she created an emotional appeal for
success and its value and the desire and want for success. We see how she creates
such emotion when she states, The distant strains of triumph break, agonizing and
clear. What Dickinson means by this is that gaining success can be the most
beautiful accomplishment but at the same time, agonizing to reach. This creates an
emotional appeal for those who are living through the Civil War, making the people
have a desire for peace, but they have to go through bloodshed in the process of
gaining success. Emily Dickinson carries out artistic devices throughout her poem,
which also creates an emotional appeal for the audience. She uses metaphors to
describe success by stating, Success is counted sweetest. Dickinson also uses her
poem to recreate what was occurring at the time of the war. She speaks of the purple

Interaction Within An Organization
Interaction within an organization sets the ton e and environment. It can foster
creativity and productivity or can devalue and demean which, of course, will
ultimately affect attitudes, productivity, loyalty, and turnover
. Employees who enjoy a high level of job satisfaction and organization commitme nt
will not only be more productive, and more open but will also create a positive
picture of your organization outside and in the marketplace.
In looking at the interaction within Apple Corporation there are mixed messages.

Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder and Parenting
Boisterous , energetic , and spontaneous were once adjectives used to describe the
behaviour of normal, healthy children [CITE]. These days, similar behaviours might
be labeled problematic , hyperactive , and uncontrollable , often resulting in the
diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and the prescription of a
psychostimulant drug [CITE]. According to the DMS V, ADHD is described as a
combination of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity (American Psychiatric
Association, 2013). Due to the nature of the symptoms, ADHD can significantly
hinder a child s ability to succeed in a school setting, both academically and socially,
which could have dire implications for their future [CITE]. With almost 11% of
children in the United States currently diagnosed with the disorder, ADHD has been
labeled an epidemic and this has lead to a significant increase in the amount of
research devoted to determining its cause and treatment [CITE]. The increased
attention has also attracted a great deal of controversy, with medical experts
questioning the safety of administering psychostimulant drugs to children. Although
the evidence is often contradictory, due to an increase in the documentation of the
adverse side effects in children caused by psychostimulant medication [CITE] as well
as an increase in the evidence of nonpharmacological treatments successfully reducing
the symptoms of ADHD, many parents have become reluctant in allowing their
children to
The Farm Of Many Faces
The Farm of Many Faces Polyface Farm is a sustainable, organic based farm located
in Shenandoah Valley, Virginia. It currently is run by four generations of the Salatin
family, but the man with the most influence is Joel Salatin, who was named the
worlds most innovative famer by Time Magazine. Joel and his family took some
extremely eroded and worn out land and transformed it into the innovative, high field,
symbiotic based farm it is today through their unconventional ways. Today they serve
upwards to 6000 families, 25 restaurants, and 10 retail outlets all within a four hour
radius, to keep it local and within their food shed.

Polyface holds very similar values to both the farms within The Good Life and
The Dirty Life. The Nearing s weren t too big on the idea of feeding the community
as much as they were in to self sufficiency, but they did heavily rely on the natural
system with in their way of life; planning everything according to seasons and
relying on organics. They also believed in the importance of educating on the subject
and allowed people to come, stay, and learn, just like the Salatins. The Essex Farm
has much more in common principles wise. Kristen and Mark s goal was that they
wanted to feed their community good, clean, healthy food, just like the Salatins.
Kristen and Mark achieved this through sustainable practices and dedication to what
they love. They maintained their CSA without advertisement and also focused on the
importance of soil health just like the Polyface farm does. I believe that the Polyface
farm is different in a sense that they have dedicated most of their efforts into creating
and maintaining the symbiotic system that occurs within the farm, in contrast to the
farms in The Good life and The Dirty Life.
On Polyface, community is such an important aspect towards the Salatins goals; to
provide good quality food to their food shed. The members who buy from the
Salatins are all located within 4 hours of the farm in order to keep their products
local. They refuse to mail products so instead they
The Devil Wears Prada Analysis
Have you ever been intimidated by someone merely by their presence? What is
making their presence intimidating, even if they haven t said anything? This
situation would be primarily due to their body language, eye contact, and/or
confidence to name a few; it is a known fact that 95% of communication revolves
around nonverbal cues such as these. This large percentage of nonverbal cues can be
seen in the movie The Devil Wears Prada.
An average but intelligent woman named Andy Sachs lands a job at a popular
fashion magazine as Meryl Streep s aka Miranda Priestly s aka the devil s assistant.
She has to deal with the devils difficult demands and trying to fit into this new
world she had mocked before; as she proves, and seemingly loses, herself she must
decide what she really wants and how to deal with Miranda.
This movie contains many examples of nonverbal language, making it hard to narrow
down. In the end I chose the three things I thought had the most prevalence in the
movie: Influencing others/body movement, the ambiguous nature of nonverbal, and
managing impressions
Influencing Others/Physical Attractiveness How we look, act, and sound to others
After a while of working there, Andy starts wearing more fashionable clothes and
changes her hair/makeup. Along with this, as she gets more accustomed and
comfortable with her job she gets more confidence in her body movements. One
particular scene about 30 minutes into the movie, Andy walks into the office very
confidently and
Jekyll And Mr Hyde Consequences
Choices and Their Consequences In the novel, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and
Mr. Hyde, the main character struggles with living a life where he is not able to
rebel. Dr. Jekyll is a respected doctor in London and a person that rarely gets to be
the opposite side of himself. So, in order to soothe the desire to defy who he
typically is, he creates a potion that transforms him into an evil version of himself,
Mr. Hyde. Mr. Hyde is capable of much more than that of Dr. Jekyll, including
murder, blackmail and other unlawful acts. While Dr. Jekyll was in his opposite
form, Mr. Hyde, he managed to murder a man named Sir Danvers Carew, Mr. Hyde
broke out of all bounds, and clubbed (Carew) to the earth, (Stevenson 15). Dr.
Jekyll quickly becomes addicted to this version of himself, he lives vicariously
through this opposite side of himself, similar to how drug addicts do through using
cocaine or meth. When he made the decision to use the potion one more time, it was
in my own person that I was once more tempted to trifle with my conscience; and it
was as an ordinary secret sinner that I at last fell before the assaults of temptation, this
was his ultimate downfall (Stevenson 50).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have decided to go to Seattle University and study teaching, but I did not easily
come to this decision. In September, I was dead set on going to the University of
Washington to pursue a career in Neonatal Nursing. I decided that was what I
wanted to do because the spring of my Junior Year, I went to a class on career day
(green day) about a woman in Neonatal Nursing. Her job seemed very interesting
and rewarding. She had long hours and worked four days a week, then had three days
off. This seemed practical to me because I figured, Hey, I ll have three days off at a
time, that will be great! But as the summer progressed, I decided that if I ever to

IV medication may include giving the medication by rapid injection (push) into the
vein using a syringe; this is called a bolus dose. One additive that must never be
given as a direct IV bolus is potassium chloride. Potassium is an essential electrolyte
which the body needs to function correctly. Potassium is works on the nerves and
muscles in the body including the heart. As important as potassium is having too
much potassium can be life threatening. Potassium s role on the heart is to keep the
heart beating at a normal rhythm. A bolus dose of potassium chloride may cause
cardiac arrest within minutes if the dose is too high is the medicine is push in too

The Verbermockle Murder
The Cold Blooded Murder of Mr. Verbermockle
54.3 percent of murder victims were killed by someone they knew (acquaintance,
neighbor, friend, boyfriend, etc.), 24.8 percent were killed by a family member.
The evidence shows that this is logically the case in the Verbermockle murder
mystery. After allegedly finding Mrs. Verbermockle s husband unconscious on the
bathroom floor, Mrs. Verbermockle calls her family doctor. Mrs. Verbermockle
claimed that he must have slipped on a bar of soap, and she did not touch him.
When the doctor arrived, he announced Mr. Verbermockle dead from a fracture to
the rear of the skull caused from blunt force. However, if the FBI statistics are
correct, then it is likely that Mrs. Verbermockle is the killer. Although... Show more

Verbermockle suffered blunt force head trauma. Knowing that he was killed using
blunt force head trauma, either the weapon or the body would have made a loud
noise from impact. Mrs. V would have been able to hear this loud bang in her own
home. Any normal person would have rushed to the scene immediately after
hearing the noise, especially if the impact was tough enough to cause a fracture in
the rear of his skull, as the doctor had mentioned. In addition, Mr. V s body seems
to be in front of the sink, implying that he was in front of the mirror at the time of
the impact. Anyone would have been able to react if they saw someone behind
them in the mirror. However, his body is placed as if he hadn t moved a muscle.
Though if he saw his wife behind him, he wouldn t have had any worry of suspicion
of an intruder. Most importantly, next to the body is a broken bottle of cologne or
mouthwash that could have been used as the murder weapon. At the murder scene
you can see that the victim has some type of liquid come from the back of his head,
where he was hit at. The bottle was used to hit Mr. V in the back of the head
causing a fracture in his skull while splashing the liquid on him at the same time.
Unless the liquid coming from his head was blood, then bottle didn t splash on him
during the attack. We also know that the attack would have to be fast and swift, as the
body seems that he hadn t moved from the shower. Thus
The Three Little Pigs By Joseph Jacobs
The Three Little Pigs is a classic fairytale about three pigs who build each their
own house, and the wolf who tries to devour the pigs by blowing down their
house. The Three Little Pigs has it origins from James Orchard Halliwell in
Popular Rhymes and Nursery Tales (1849) in England. Halliwell s rendition was the
first known print version in the world. Joseph Jacobs wrote the world s most
popular rendition in his English Fairy Tales (1898). In the 1880, Joel Chandler
Harris made The Three Little Pigspopular in the United States in Tales of Uncle
Remus (1880). Walt Disney had a large influence on The Three Little Pigs in 1933,
when Disney made a short film of The Three Little Pigs in Disney s Silly Symphonies

On the Contrary, Practical Pig works all day building a strong, sturdy house
composed of bricks. Fifer and Fiddler complete their houses briskly with much ease
and have time to play for the rest of the day. While Practical Pig is building, his
two brothers play and poke fun at him for working so hard. Practical Pig attempts
to warn the brothers saying, You can play and laugh and fiddle. Don t think you
can make me sore. I ll be safe and you ll be sorry when the Wolf comes through
your door! (The Three Little Pigs). Then, the Big Bad Wolf arrives, sneaking up on
Fifer and Fiddler. The two brother hastily retreat to their own houses. The Wolf
first goes to Fifer s straw shanty and blows down his house with little resistance
saying, I ll huff and I ll puff and I ll blow your house in. (The Three Little Pigs).
Fifer is able to elude the wolf and seek refuge in Fiddler s house. Next, the Wolf
pretends to admit defeat and go home, but he returns later disguised an innocent,
baby sheep. The pigs are not fooled by the disguise and promptly say, Not by the
hair of our chinny chin chin! You can t fool us with that old sheep skin! (The
Three Little Pigs). Thereupon, the Wolf says, I ll huff and I ll puff and I ll blow
your house in (The Three Little Pigs). The Wolf blows down Fiddler s shanty, and
Fifer and Fiddler evade the Wolf seeking refuge in Practical s brick house. Practical
Tragedy Of Commons
Garrett Hardin s, The Tragedy of the Commons discusses the exploitation of common
resources and the inability to solve the problem with technical solutions. Hardin
focuses on population and the effect it has and will continue to have on what he
refers to as the commons. The exploitation of natural resources or the tragedy of the
commons, as he puts it, refers to all resources that are not formally regulated. Such
resources include rivers, parks, the atmosphere, energy and so on. Robert Wade and
James Acheson take different approaches in how the use of commonproperty can help
address the tragedy of the commons. Hardin s primary focus is on the negative effects
of a continuous population growth and the welfare state s inevitable need to support
population growth. He often describes the optimum population being when growth
rate approaches zero. This, he points out, might lead us to believe that any population
with an increasing growth rate must be below its optimum however it is mostly the
case that the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two types of fishing areas play a role in the amount of mixed fishing that is
allowed. The more mixed an area is, the less chance of overstepping local
boundaries. Nucleated fishing areas have a stronger sense of ownership, close to
the harbor and weaker as one moves in deeper. I didn t know about the existence of
harbor gangs and how violent fishing can become. Acceptance into a harbor game
apparently isn t too difficult and mostly open to locals and those willing to follow
the local standards. Perimeter defended areas have sharper boundaries that usually
align with the location of their residence. Regardless of where the owner chooses to
anchor his boat, the area is his. Mixed fishing is less common here and the
membership of harbor gangs here is typically limited to families with land close to
Causes And Consequences Of The Lake Erie
Last summer in Toledo, toxic algae blooms contaminated the drinking water
supply of 400,000 people (Toledo water crisis, par. 1). Algae, like all organisms,
normally grow in balance with their ecosystems, limited by the amount of nutrients
in the water. But sometimes, algae can reproduce very rapidly, which causes
damage. Harmful algal blooms have been increasing in the United States to the
point where they occur along most of the coastlines and are common in many
places: Specifically, Lake Erie. Lake Erie has been affected by the blooms since the
1960 s and is still being affected. The impacts of these blooms are dangerous in
many ways: humans health is placed at risk, ecosystems are altered, and marine
mammals can either be injured or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Industrial interests argue that a reference in the text of the law to navigable waters
limits federal jurisdiction to waters you can boat on. This has let them get away with
discharging pollution into smaller waterways. Regulators disagree, since pollutants in
these waterways drain into and threaten larger passable waters, too (CLEAN WATER
ACT, par. 1 35).
A change in climate can affect the algal blooms, making the blooms to increase
rapidly. Strong winds can also drive blooms to the water s surface, where water intake
pipes can draw contaminated water into systems serving municipality. Finally, a
combination of warm temperature and excess nutrients can make the algae multiply.
Algae can multiply quickly in waterways with an overabundance of and phosphorus,
particularly when the water is warm and the weather is calm. Toledo did not have
much luck last summer. A small bloom appeared directly over the city s water intake
pipe affecting the water even more (Behind Toledo s Water Crisis
, par. 10).
Although climate can play a role in effecting the blooms, agricultural activities have
an even bigger impact on the algae blooms. Agricultural practices, such as no till
cropping, also reduced the amount of particulate phosphorus.
On March 22, the Ohio lawmakers were on the same path of agreeing on a plan that
would reduce the farm runoff that feeds the algae
The Virgin Of Guadalupe And La Virgen De Guadalupe
In the final resolution concerning religion, Chicanas declare, Revolutionary change
of [the] Catholic Church or for it to get out of the way. On the resolutions listed under
sexuality, Chicanas mention how they recognize their suppression under the Catholic
Church, how religion and culture control their sex lives, and the guilt complexes
pressured onto them when they challenge the institution. Each of these themes are
depicted through the cultural and religious symbol of the Virgin of Guadalupe. La
Virgen de Guadalupe or The Virgin of Guadalupe, the patron saint of Mexico,

The Virgin ordered Diego to collect Castilian roses around the hill and she helped
him arrange them into his cloak. On December 12 when Diego returned to the
Archbishop, he opened his tilmГЎtli or cloak in which the image of the Virgin
appeared. In response, the archbishop honored the Virgin s request and built an
altar in her honor. Today, The Basilica de Guadalupe in Tepeyac stands in
dedication to the Virgin s first appearance and remains the most visited Catholic
shrine. Because of the Virgin s Mexican history, she holds great significance to
Mexican Catholics, so it is no surprise why the Virgin remains inherent in Mexican
culture, or as literary scholar Debra J. Blake so aptly defined, Guadalupe equals
Mexico. Both men and women admire the Virgin, but her religious setting provides a
context for oppression through the church. NietoGomez explains how the church
utilized Guadalupe s image, Marianismo, the veneration of the Virgin Mary, became
the model of how to make oppression a religious obligation. This is the heritage of
the Chicana. The church created a patriarchal role for themselves by weaving the
Virgin s image as a pure mother to model ordinary women s behavior. By applying
this method through the guise of subjugation, the Church rationalized their need to
protect women in order to maintain their pure, moral status. Paradoxically, feminine
virtues expressed by the Virgin as to be employed by women represents many
contradictory elements. Debra
Mrs Compson
In the Sound and the Fury, the role of Mrs. Compson is perceived by the public as
largely negative, as a non caring mother who lets her family fall apart, the downfall
of the once great aristocratic Compson family. However, Ulrike NГјssler s scholarly
article, published in William Faulkner: German Responses, portrays Mrs. Compson
as the victim of Southern nobility. The focus of his essay is that her behavior stems
from the social pressures from her socioeconomic class. NГјssler argues that Mrs.

Compson is a victim of the Old Southern society is very eye opening for readers.
Seemingly, after reading the book, Mrs. Compson is an antagonist, the reason for
the Compson family s destruction. However, after reading Nussler s article, this
belief is disproved and the blame put upon her is lessened. These Southern
aristocratic ways of life are directly responsible for this overlying theme of pride
which leads Mrs. Compson to lose her maternal instincts, abuse Dilsey, fail to make
good investments, and get help from others. She is obsessed with her family s
reputation which creates all of her flaws/shortcomings. The Southern code really
influences all her decisions and the way she acts aloof around her family members.
When she reverted to her maiden name, Bascomb, towards the end of the novel, she
demonstrated that not only had she never really been part of the Compson family, but
that she didn t think her family had ever followed the Southern aristocratic etiquette
closely enough. Everything she does is to follow that etiquette which harms those

Advantages And Disadvantages Of DSLR
Introduction:
DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) cameras have redefined motion picture
photography. Today they offer more than what we ever thought off. Technological
revolutions have swept the world like never before and today, a camera stands for
more than just a tool to capture family functions. Who knew that major feature films
and television shows would eventually start shooting with cameras that primarily
marketed for consumers and prosumers?
The movie mode of a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera is a revolutionary
movie making technology as important like the invention of emulsion and colour film
in photography, 16mm and
35mm films for motion picture photography. Nikon D90 is the first DSLR to

There is nothing like an all purpose lens. Each lens is suitable for a particular purpose.
Each lens has some pro and cons.
Different lenses render how we perceive the subject and setting descriptively,
emotionally and aesthetically. Different lenses give the freedom of choosing the
angle of view according to the subject and are measured by the focal length. Focal
length of a DSLR camera is the distance between the optical centre of a lens to the
imaging sensor when the lens is focused at infinity.
The two main choices of a film maker while choosing lens is either a prime lens
(lens with a fixed focal length) or a zoom lens (lens with a variable focal length).
For narrative film making prime lenses are best. Prime lenses are faster as
compared to zoom lenses. Fast refers to the maximum opening (aperture) of the
lens. Fast lenses (such as f/1.4 or f/1.8) allow shooting in low lighting conditions.
Fast lenses allow capturing footage with a dramatically shallow depth of field. It
gives more visual versatility. Prime lenses have fewer lens elements and give good
sharp images in comparison to zoom lenses. For documentaries zoom lenses are
better for their flexibility in creating

The Science Of Destruction By Brian Caswell
The Science of Destruction
Leonard Mlodinow said, Politicians often misuse science for political ends and to
pursue their own agenda. (2015). Science can be misused for gain, profit and
destruction. This fact of life is clearly demonstrated throughout history, such as
through excessive technological developments and through the splitting of the atom
which has caused more devastation than good. Although these were all intended to
be good and of benefit to the world, they have been abused and contaminated by
some. Brian Caswell s novel A Cage of Butterflies explores the scientific researchon
two groups of children, the teenagers in the think tank and the Babies. A Cage of
Butterflies, while fictitious, explores the poor treatment of ... Show more content on

As the story progresses, Caswell s view on science becomes clearer and readers can
determine for themselves where the line should be drawn to keep society safe.
Throughout A Cage of Butterflies the main focus of the antagonist s attention is
money, power and fame. Larsen believes that if he understands what the Babies
are, and what they can do, he can develop a drug, or experiment on the existing
fictional drug Metamide . Ultimately developing this drug would provide the world
with one of the most powerful weapons ever seen and millions of dollars in Larsen
s bank account. Susan remarks about how Larsen cares only for this money, power
and fame by saying, ... what makes you think they d be left alone? Larsen would
publish. He s hungry for the glory. And once their secret was out there d never be
any peace. (Caswell, 1992, Pg. 86) The teens from the Adolescent Advanced
Learning Facility know that Larsen is secretly abusing his power and are willing
to do what they can to stop him. This sad reality is quite prominent in the world of
science, and in many cases it does go by unnoticed. The Space Race of the 1960 s is
a good example of this as it is very clear now that it was for profit and gain. The
Space Race was the continuation of the Cold Waras Russia and America worked to
reach space first . It spawned from the arms race and whoever won the race would
finally have victory over the other country. Though Russia was the first country to

Military Professionalism by SPC Murray
Professionals in the United States Army stand apart from others engaged in
particular careers in the civilian world. While many vocations contain some of the
characteristics of professional, a lot of careers do not include all of the elements
necessary to distinguish themselves as being as close to a professional as a United
States soldier. Professionalism grows depending on the time and service they have
in the Army. A professional has specialized knowledge and skill which can only be
acquired through prolonged education and experience. Such skill and experience
form the basis of objective standards of professional competence that separate the
practicing professional from their peers and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Soldiers must be committed to justice in the performance of their official duties.
Decisions must not be arbitrary, capricious, or biased. Individuals must be treated
equally and with tolerance. Caring. Compassion is an essential element of good
government. Courtesy and kindness, both to those we serve and to those we work
with, help to ensure individuals are not treated solely as a means to an end. Caring
for others is the counterbalance against the temptation to pursue the mission at any
cost. Respect. To treat people with dignity, to honor privacy, and to allow self
determination are critical in a government of diverse people. Lack of respect leads to
a breakdown of loyalty and honesty within a government and brings chaos to the
international community. Promisekeeping. No government can function for long if
its commitments are not kept. Soldiers are obligated to keep their promises in order
to promote trust and cooperation. Because of the importance of promisekeeping,
leaders must only make commitments within their authority. Professionalism is a
subject that is near and dear to my heart. Professionalism is important for all of us
who are part of the military institution in both active and Reserve components. It is
important for all of us who love and respect the Army. We live in a time of change
for the Army, and, as in all institutions during times of change and change in
leadership, we need to emphasize
Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter
Nathaniel Hawthorne was born July 4, 1804, in Salem Massachusetts. He was the
only son of Nathaniel and Elizabeth Clark Hathorne. Nathaniel Hathorne died from
yellow fever at sea leaving wife Elizabeth and four year old son Hawthorne behind.
Hawthorne had a relatively isolated life growing up, which left him quite shy and
pushed him towards writing. Hawthorne s family was involved with the Salem
witch trials and to distance himself from that later in his life he decided to add the w
into his last name. Hawthorne s best known works include a mix between novels,
poems and short stories written between the years 1828 1860.

In Habich s Scholarly article Hawthorne s Fuller Mystery He actually explains that a
reason for writing The Scarlet Letter, is reflecting Hawthorne s anxiety over Fuller s
impending return to America with a child of suspect legitimacy, explores marriage as
a union of souls. The Scarlet Letter Author Hunt explains the novel is about how,
Hawthorne portrays the seventeenth century Puritan settlers of New England as
seeking liberation from religious persecution in Europe only in order to establish
their own rigorous moral and religious strictures in the New World. Hawthorne
suggests that the Puritans understanding of liberation cannot be separated from
strict adherence to their own dogmatically certain moral code. (Hunt;26) In the
novel Hester Pyrnne was sent to America, she was under the impression her
husband Roger Chillingworth would arrive right after her, but he never did...
Pyrnne then had what was considered an affair and a child with a man she would
not name. The scarlet letter A was worn on her breast as her punishment, and to
symbolize adultery. After his success with this first novel he followed up with a
more suspenseful book called The House of Seven Gables, based on a haunted house
in Salem. The unexpected success Hawthorne had from this second book also then
made it possible for Hawthorne to purchase his first home for him and his
The Godfather Thesis
Director Francis Ford Coppola s dramatization The Godfather is a standout amongst
the most venerated, acclaimed and powerful works of the twentieth century. It is a
movie magnum opus of business and basic achievement as such achieving that it
routinely beat proficient and individual records as the best film ever. With a story so
soaked with profound subjects, solid characters, brilliant exhibitions, jazzy heading,
and an ageless soundtrack, there ought not be any miracle of why this work has stood
the trial of time. Notwithstanding each one of those traits is the presentation of rich
social topics and changes all through the whole film.

A case of this would be that the Don never takes cash from customers and partners
for noting a solicitation, for example, a hit, rather requiring something more
individual, for example, fellowship, administration, or favors. This is entirely clear in
the opening scene when a funeral director approaches the Don for equity against two
men who frightfully assaulted and beat his little girl. He offers Vito cash for the hit
which significantly insults The Godfather. Simply after the funeral director
understands the unintended offense and offers Vito his kinship does the Don assent
to his solicitation. Regard, fellowship, influence and control are more critical to this
family than
Cellulosic Ethanol Cons
It s not easy being green. This jeremiad of Kermit the Frog rings all too common in
today s energy production crisis. Now more than ever the US needs its energy to be
derived from natural, renewable resources. As George W Bush, an oil supporter,
even stated, America is addicted to oil (Ratliff, 2012). It s now become evident to
those in authoritative roles in the American government that oil will not be able to
sustain our nation unceasingly. Attempts at funding alternative energy sources have
included exploration of various types of ethanol sugar, corn and cellulose. Out of
these three, the most promising is the possibility of ethanol derived from cellulose.
Cellulosic ethanol is a source of energy from fibrous plant material that may... Show

The composition may pose a problem, but the components are also valuable in that
they are natural, renewable resources. Using natural resources instead of oil would
lower the US s dependence on foreign oil. By lowering our oil intake from other
countries, the US can reduce military spending that is directed at maintaining oil
supplies, and instead spend this money on other costs for internal matters. In
addition, most infrastructure is already formed to adapt to this ethanol. Most cars
on the road in the US are Fuel Flex capable, so it would pose no needed change.
Also, around the country there are about 2000 E85 spots available at gas stations.
Overall, its energy output is 2 to 36 times the energy required to produce it. With
more energy output, there is less fuel needed to be created (using less resources)
and consumers will be able to pay less at the pump and instead use it for other
expenses. Most notable, is the fact that using ethanol reduces 85 94% of emissions
compared to oil. Reducing emissions will in turn lower the greenhouse effect, and
lessen global warming effects (GreenTheFuture). In general, this matter is low
costing or free. Municipal solid waste, which can be used, can even be subsidized
to take, since normally it would have to be paid for for its disposal in a landfill. By
using non edible fuel crops and municipal solid waste, consumer prices for groceries
will not be driven upward, unlike corn, which uses farmland that otherwise would
have been used for food production. Thus, corn drives up the price of food (Christian,
Jan. 5, 2015). While opponents argue that it would require vast farming operations,
meaning clearcutting in some cases, acquisition of
Compensation for Live Organ Donors
Compensation for Live Organ Donors

Compensation for Live Organ Donors Currently, there are over 100,000 people on
the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) waiting list for organ transplantation
(2012, Transplant Trends). Only 26, 246 transplantations occurred between January
and November of 2011, (UNOS, 2012, Transplant Trends). There is a huge contrast
in the number of people needing organs and the number of organs actually available
for transplantation. This lack of organs creates a serious dilemma regarding how to
increase the supply of organs for transplantation. So far, many of the efforts to
increase organ donation have focused on the procurement from deceased donors; ...

It does not seem right that an organ donor should be expected to risk their health and
life with absolutely no consideration afforded to the potential consequences that may
be inflicted upon the donor.
Considering all of the risks a donor must take on, it only seems fair to provide
some sort of compensation for their actions. Justice theory focuses on the rights
persons are entitled to, while also taking into considerations the duties imposed on
persons in society (Parks, 2010, p. 10). Duties are the actions that are required of
citizens living within a community as part of their social contract (Parks, 2010, p.
10). Although being altruistic and donating an organ to another human being is the
current process utilized for obtaining organs, it is not necessarily a citizen s duty to
do so. Since donating organs is not a duty that citizens must uphold, it only makes
sense that these persons should be compensated for their actions. The current
process of altruism may actually inhibit those who would otherwise donate if some
sort of compensation was offered. Not everyone can afford to miss 1 2 months of
work, develop debilitating health concerns, or run the risk of losing health
insurance. These issues are easily overlooked when donating to a relative, but
sometimes even having a relative in need is not enough. Consider the following
example: A potential donor has a sister in need of an organ, but that donor is also a
single mother raising a

1. Draw a circle with your protractor or stencil
2. Starting from the 12 oВЎВ¦clock position on the circle, measure an angle of 180
degrees with your protractor. The rap pie should make up half the circle. Mark off
the radius with the ruler.
3. Repeat that process with each remaining pie and drawing in their radius according
to their percentage of 360 degrees.
The pie chart in Figure 1 quickly tells you that the majority of the patrons like rap
best, and the remaining students prefer alternative, then rock and roll, then country
and ending with classical music. Simply and quickly we are able to see that the
majority of the restaurantsВЎВ¦ patrons prefer rap music. Pie charts work well when

An Example Of Diffusion Of The Plasma Membrane
I.Introduction There s not much that comes to mind when it s time for that first cup
of coffee in the morning except hoping that it s strong enough to stimulate the mind
for the time being. This real life scenario is an example of diffusion. Simple right?
When cream is poured into coffee it remains heavily concentrated in the area it was
poured at and eventually spreads throughout it. The more the coffee is stirred the
quicker the cream spreads even more. Sugar would do the same thing as well. This is
an example of how the interstitial fluids work within the bodies of humans.
Interstitial fluids that enclose in on a cell would be the cell membraneor the plasma
membrane s doing. It creates a barrier between the internal fluids and the exterior
environment. When the body moves, the diffusing of the molecules within it
accelerates. The plasma membrane is made up of many substances, like salts,
vitamins, nutrients, waste products, etc... The plasma membrane dictates what
enters and makes sure it s sufficient. It blocks out the other substances that isn t
needed. Also it happens to be selectively permeable. This means either the
molecules progress on without a hassle or there may be a little difficulty to
progress on. Materials traverse through the membrane by two methods, which are
called passive process and active process. In this lab passive process is part of the
main focus. Energy from the cell isn t a necessity when it comes to passive process.

Disadvantages And Disadvantages Of Mutual Funds
3.1INTRODUCTION: A Mutual Fund is a kind of trust that pools money which
shares common financial goals from a group of investors and invest the money. The
Fund is mainly a corporation where sole business is to collect and invest money or
fund. You combine the pool by buying shares in the fund. Then the money is
invested by a team of professionals who research bond, stock and other assets and
then place the money as good they can earn the returns. There are several kinds of
mutual fund. Funds can also be open ended and close ended funds. Open ended
schemes sell their shares to those who are willing to buy. The money collected is
invested in capital market instruments such as debentures, shares and other securities.
The income which is been earned or got from this investment or even from capital
appreciation is distributed or shared by its unit holders in proportion to the number of
units owned by them.

These claims on banks can act as money because they are negotiable or repayable
on demand, and hence valued at par. They are effectively transferable by mere
delivery, in the case of banknotes, or by drawing a cheque that the payee may bank or
cash. 2. Netting and settlement of payments banks act as both collection and paying
agents for customers, participating in interbank clearing and settlement systems to
collect, present, be presented with, and pay payment instruments. This enables banks
to economies on reserves held for settlement of payments, since inward and outward
payments offset each other. It also enables the offsetting of payment flows between
geographical areas, reducing the cost of settlement between them. 3. Credit
intermediation banks borrow and lend back to back on their own account as middle
men. 4. Credit quality improvement banks lend money to ordinary commercial and
personal borrowers (ordinary credit quality), but are high quality borrowers. The
improvement comes from diversification of the bank s assets and capital which
provides a buffer to absorb losses without defaulting on its obligations. However,
banknotes and deposits are generally unsecured; if the bank gets into difficulty and
pledges assets as security, to raise the funding it needs to continue to operate, this puts
the note holders and depositors in an economically subordinated position.

Social Class And The Middle Class Essay
Social class can be defined as a social construct which is used to describe a group of
people with similar levels of wealth, influence and status. They tend to have
dramatically different values and mannerisms to others groups, for example, the
working class are seen as uneducated and unskilled workers, whereas the middle
class are seen as highly educated people with high incomes (Harcourt, 2016). Despite
there being other social classgroups, including, the upper class, this essay will
explore the portrayal of the working class, lower class, also known as the underclass
, and the middle class in reality television, using the example of Wife Swap.
The working class and the lower class groups have been increasingly visible on
British television screens in recent years, mainly because the increasingly popular
genre of reality television features them heavily (Morley, 2009). Debates have
sparked on whether the use of ordinary people on such programmes is
democratising or exploitative. It could be argued that because the working class
were not on such programmes, audiences and society therefore had no access to
them and their lifestyles. However, the great exposure of working classes on reality
television programmes now provides access to them and allows people to observe
and judge how they behave and how they live.
It is not a recent discovery that disadvantaged individuals, families and communities
are portrayed in negative lights by the media (Crossley and Slater, 2014),

some kids studying and most playing out in the gallis (small streets in India). After

and can affect anyone at any time. This illness is on a continuum, that can affect one

individual to feel isolated, hopeless, and worthless; therefore, result in other forms of
mental illnesses or conditions to occur. Many of these individuals may turn to drugs,

Mockingbird Essays
Mockingbird
The prejudice seen in the fictional novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
corresponds with the narrow mindedness of many people during this time period.
Due to this prejudice, a fair trial would be unlikely between a white and a black
man. In the novel, Tom Robinson was presumed guilty because of his race and did
not receive a fair trial because the jury had formed adverse opinions of him prior to
the presentation of any evidence.
Prejudice is an adverse opinion or leaning formed without just grounds or before
sufficient knowledge (Prejudice); according to Lystra Moore Richardson of Yale
University: prejudice... was part of the very fiber of Southern life [during the Great

The jury also showed signs of prejudice in the Scottsboro case. All twelve of the
jurymen concluded a guilty verdict for the first trial despite even medical
evidence: it was [Jack Tiller s] semen ... that was found in [Victoria Price s] vagina
and not that of any of the alleged black boys (Linder). The reasons the jury had for
its verdict were formed without just grounds or before sufficient knowledge going
back to the definition of prejudice stated in paragraph two. The jury had its decision
made before the case ever made it into the courtroom. The jury consisted of all
white men but it is not to say that a jury of all black men would have been any
fairer. The prejudice during the Great Depression did not only come from the
whites, many blacks also felt hate for the white men. The prejudice of white men
towards black men can be seen in To Kill a Mockingbird, especially during the trial
between Mr. Ewell and Tom Robinson over the alleged rape of his daughter Mayella.
In To Kill a Mockingbird, prejudice is seen repeatedly. Tom Robinson did not have
a chance at winning the trial solely because he was black. Despite the lack of
prejudice on Judge Taylor s behalf, the overwhelming prejudice in the jury convicted
Tom, sentencing him to the death penalty the penalty for rape in Alabama. Judge
Taylor shows that he lacks prejudice by

Fate In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Fate is a power that controls the course of events in the universe. Prevalent in many
of William Shakespeare s works, fate often appears when a protagonist grapples
with the hold fate has upon their lives. In the play Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare
introduces the idea of fate when two people fall in love despite the long standing
feud between their two families, the Capulets and the Montagues. As Romeo and
Juliet fall deeper in love, tensions between the houses increase, and the two lovers
plot how to rewrite fate in order to be together, such as wishing time to pass faster or
slower and disobeying their family s wishes. Romeo and Juliet believe they have
control over their lives, but their eventual deaths which result in the end of the feud...

When Juliet s father pressures her to marry Paris, Juliet refuses, stating, Not proud,
you have; but thankful, that you have/Proud can I never be of what I hate (III v
151 152). In this line, Juliet explains that she is not proud of how Capulet arranged
the marriage of her and Paris without her permission. Juliet acts out against her
father and fate s plan to keep Romeo and Juliet apart, as Juliet chooses Romeo over
Paris. During this Elizabethan era, people follow the Great Chain of Being, a
hierarchical structure to life. In this structure, women are supposedly subordinate
to men, and daughters were expected to demonstrate filial piety and respect
towards their parents. Although Juliet is still acting polite to Capulet, this small of
act of defiance is considered very bold, as she contravened the Great Chain of
Being. Later, when the Nurse encourages Juliet to forget about Romeo and just
marry Paris, Juliet exclaims, I ll to the Friar, to know his remedy: If all else fail,
myself have power to die (III v 254 255 ). Throughout most of the play, Juliet is
complacent in her actions and usually takes on a passive role in the romance. She
waits for Romeo to seek her out and sends the Nurse off on errands to look out for
Romeo. However, when Juliet finally decides to run to the Friar for advice on her
own as opposed to depending on the Nurse again,
Timing Switches At The Ends Of Competition Swimming
Pools
From the beginning of time, the world of competitive swimming, to the days of
Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky, has changed greatly. All areas of competitive
swimming have evolved through technological advances: timing and starting
systems, pool and aquatic venues, suit technology, and training equipment. Come join

From the 1896 Olympics to the 1967 Pan American Games events were timed with

In the early 1920s, racing suits were made of silk, which was much lighter and
more comfortable than the more popular knitted wool suits, but they were
considerably more expensive (BBC News. BBC, 03 Aug. 2004. Web. 06 Sept.

moderately affordable with materials like nylon and Lycra, a modern and extremely
effective compression fabric. In the early 20th Century, caps and goggles weren t
widely used. Since then, swimmers have seen that using these items can increase
their performance and they don t have to shave their head and swim blind . Or, if
they didn t shave their head and swim with hair, but without a cap and goggles, like
American Mark Spitz, then the advantage of swimming with these products was even
greater. Modern swim caps are made from water repellant materials like silicon,
Lycra, and Neoprene, which are very affordable. High tech innovations in racing suits
and swimming uniform have improved the swimming
The Crime Of Entertainment Television Shows Have Been...
Entertainment television shows have been fascinated with violence and murders.
The purpose of this paper is to examine season three and season ten of Law and
Order: SVU to compare variables of the victims, perpetrators, age, race, sex, motive,
who solves the cases, the outcome of the perpetrators and the type of crimethat is
being committed. The findings of this paper states that majority of the victims are
children and/or teenagers, white, and females; while the perpetrators are middle aged
white men who prey on strangers. In addition, there are explanations why majority of
the victims are women and not men.
Introduction
Crime television shows have captured millions of individual s attention in the United
States of America. Rape is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Crime drama series normally follow a two part approach: the first half hour is the
investigation of the crime committed which are usually a murder and the
apprehension of the suspect while the second half of the show is the prosecution of
the defendant. There is at least one police officer that ends the rules to serve justice.
The end of the program can create powerful images of the crime, and characteristics
of the offender and victim. Law Order: Special Victims Unitis on of NBC S most top
rated series that focuses more on the youth victims than any other Law Order
program, CSI:NY , CSI: Miami , or NYPD Blue (Nielson Media Research 2006).
The age of a victim is one of the inclusive characteristics that lead to special victim.
Detective Elliot Stabler and Detective Olivia Benson on SVU demonstrates the
struggle of handling cases of child molestation. The quote Nobody can handle
children is inevitable when it comes to this show because this shows a sensitive
subject matter addressed consisting of primarily brutal rapes and homicides. The
show supports an elite squad called the Special Victims Unit (SVU) as they
investigate and prosecute sexually motivated offenses.
I will be looking at season three and season ten of Law Order SVU to focus findings
on race of victim and perpetrator, the sex of the victim and perpetrator, age of victim
and perpetrator, the relationship between the victim and perpetrator, the type of crime
The Company Of Men By Neil Labute
In the Company of Men is a play written by Neil LaBute set in the 1990 s. The three
main characters are Howard, Christine, and Chad. It is revealed in the beginning of
the play that Chad and Howard have been friends since college, and that they work
in the same office building. While Chad and Howard are outside of the office,
Chad reveals that one day, he came home from work to find that the house had
been packed up, and his wife left him. While on the topic, Howard reveals that he
recently had his heart broken by a woman after she declined his marriage proposal.
While wallowing in their heartbreak, Chad proposes the idea of finding a girl, and
having Howard and himself date the girl simultaneously, only to break up with her

Howard breaks down and reveals that he bought a ring for Christine and he tells
her about the game that they have been playing at Christine s expense. Upon
returning, Christine tells Chad that she knows about the game, and Chad dumps
her, admitting that they were making a fool of her. A few weeks later, Howard
comes to Chad s home in the middle of the night unable to eat or sleep because he
feels so badly about what he did to Christine. Chad then reveals to Howard that his
wife never left him, and that the entire scheme was happening while Chad was still
married. Howard leaves disgusted and Chad goes to bed with his wife. Howard then
yells Listen as if Christine can hear him, and the play ends.
The Conflict of the play is created and perpetuated by Chad. Howard is manipulated
into going along with Chad s plan in order to victimize a young deaf woman
because he is mad with women as a whole. The initial conflict is that of a love
triangle in which Howard wants Christine, but Christine wants Chad. When Christine
first starts to have feelings for Chad, she rejects Howard s offer of lunch with a lie so
that she can have lunch with Chad. Howard caught Christine in her lie when he ran
into them at the same restaurant. This hurt Howard to such an extent that he sent
Chad on a business trip so that he could propose to Christine while Chad was not
around.
Comparative Analysis Of Bitch Planet And Barbie Doll
Comparative Analysis
In both Bitch Planet and Barbie Doll , the authors aimed to exemplify the
unrealistic body image that women are facing. Bitch Planet is about a futurist
world where larger women are shamed for being larger rather than stick thin like
the women in the advertisements and media. The writer uses a comic format and
futuristic setting to display a setting that feels realistic. In Barbie Doll it talks about
a girl who is made fun of for her small differences in physical appearance, even
though she was perfectly healthy and normal. They each show how the body images
set by men and other women effect how they feel about their own bodies. They each
follow similar topics however; they have different techniques as well as time frames
for conveying them.
Both Bitch Planet and Barbie Doll focus on body shaming of women. Bitch Planet
is set in a futuristic world there the women have fathers who control their life. The
main character was overweight and was taken away from her mother so that she
wouldn t be influence which only heightened the rage. Similarly, Barbie Doll is
based on a girl who does the normal girly things and is perfectly health but she is
made fun of for having a great big nose and fat legs (Piercy 348). She goes through
her whole life being critiqued on the smallest things that have nothing to do with the
person she really is. They both focus on how women are shamed for their body by
society and the people around them. For each they
The Three Types Of Ovarian Cancer
Ovarian cancer is a type of cancer related to the ovaries. It currently accounts for
approximately 3% of all cancers in women. Ovaries are comprised of three types of
cells, each of them being able to differentiate into a type of cancer. These three types
are epithelial, germ, and stromal cells. The most common type of ovarian canceris
derived from the epithelial cells. According to the American Cancer Society, ovarian
cancer is the leading cause of death from all types of cancer that are related to the
female reproductive system. Moreover, it is estimated that approximately 55% of
women diagnosed with ovarian cancer die in the first 5 years of diagnosis.
However, if the tumor is diagnosed before the age of 65, this percentage decreases.
Ovarian Cancer Symptoms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More importantly, most patients who suffer from ovarian cancer do not develop any
kind of symptoms in the early stages. Unfortunately, due to this asymptomatic onset,
ovarian cancer is usually diagnosed at a later stage, meaning it has already caused
significant damage to the surrounding tissues. In rare cases, ovarian cancer is only
diagnosed when it has already metastasized.
When symptoms do appear, they vary from patient to patient. The majority of
ovarian cancer symptoms are nonspecific, meaning that they could appear in other
conditions as well. Having any of the symptoms does not mean that cancer is
present. Due to the lack of routine tests for ovarian cancer, it is recommended that
women with family history of ovarian cancer should perform regular doctor visits
and even genetic testing in order to assess the risk of ovarian cancer

Another study conducted by researchers at Tel Aviv University published in Nature
Communications hones in on the inverse correlation between the expression of
oncosuppressor microRNA and a pre established oncogene a cancer development
gene. The study says that this explains prolonged survival of pancreatic cancer, and
the findings may very well yield future cultivation of effective drug cocktails for
fighting not only multiple cancer types but also several other mortal diseases.
Lead study author, Ronit Satchi Fainaro, chairs the Department of Physiology and
Pharmacology at TAU, and he collaborated with Dr. Shay Eliyahu and Hadas
Gibori among others on the study. Pancreatic cancer is widely considered by experts
to be one of the most aggressive cancers; most patients last less than a year after
diagnosis. Despite all the treatments afforded by modern medicine, some 75% of all
pancreatic cancer patients die within 12 months of diagnosis, including many who
die within just a few months, according to Satchi Fainaro. But around seven percent
of those diagnosed will survive more than five years. We sought to examine what
distinguishes the survivors from the rest of the patients.
Satchi Fainaro adds that his team figured they could develop new therapeutic
strategies if

Storms that form north of the equator spin counter clockwise and storms south of

Nurse Administrator Research Paper
Roles and Functions of the Nurse Manager
The nature of modern medical services requires nursing leadership professionals who
can establish and maintain an efficient atmosphere for the health care delivery. The
position of a nurse administrator has a managerial function within a medical setting.
Working on a nursing leadership post requires a strong educational background. The
most widely accepted way to become a nursing administrator is a Master of Science
in Nursing or a Master of Health Administration with an emphasis on leadership,
management or administration (Graduatenursingedu.org, 2016). Moreover, the
unique qualification that is inherent for the nurse administrators is that they can mix
business and leadership skills with their health
Anti-Consumerism in the Works of Kerouac, Ginsberg, and
Roth
Anti Consumerism in the Works of Kerouac, Ginsberg, and Roth
After World War II, Americans became very concerned with keeping up with the
Joneses. Everyday people were not only interested in fulfilling the American Dream
because of the optimistic post war environment, but also because of the economic
emphasis on advertising that found a new outlet daily in highway billboards, radio
programs, and that popular new device, the television. With television advertising
becoming the new way to show Americans what they did not (and should) have
came a wide eyed and fascinated interest in owning all kinds of things, products, and
devices suddenly necessary in every home. One could not only hear about new
necessary items, but see them as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By rejecting spoon fed aphorisms for self discovery through altruism and economic
simplicity, these writers, and indeed a whole subculture of American beatniks and
Buddhists in the 50 s and 60 s, set a new precedent for those willing to find their own
way.
Ginsberg expresses a light hearted distaste of the supermarket lifestyle in his poem, A
Supermarket in California. He envisions himself wandering around the supermarket,
surrounded by consumers eyeing produce, and, among them, Walt Whitman and
Garcia Lorca. He seems to be fascinated and repulsed at the same time by the
phenomenon, everyone looking and poking at the items to be bought, and he
wonders what their real motives in being there are. He imagines Whitman to be there
out of loneliness, flirting with the young stockboys, pretending, like everyone else, to
be interested in the products. Ginsberg s vision of America is of a whole population
so lonely and dispassionate that they have turned to these big bright places full of
people and things to look at just to have something to do. It is notable that Ginsberg
and Whitman leave the supermarket together, not having purchased anything at all.
They have taken part in the ritual of loneliness without buying into the need for
things.
In The Dharma Bums, Kerouac set out to show what an enlightening, beautiful life
comes from having as little as possible. The protagonist, Ray, (clearly Kerouac
himself) records almost
Naturalistic Observations Of Naturalistic Observation
What is naturalistic observation? How does a researcher collect data when
conducting naturalistic observation research?
Naturalistic observation gathers data to provide a complete and accurate picture of
what occurs in a setting, (Cozby Bates, 2014, P. 119). The observation describes
qualitatively events such as how people make decisions and how they solve
problems using the skills individually and sometimes as a group think (Cozby Bates,
2014). Naturalistic observations take place in a normative setting such as sports
event, work cycle, and observes behaviors in general or in a particular setting. The
observation supports information on previously acquired skill such as natural

2016, P.59). Observational study in a naturalistic setting allows the participants to
feel comfortable expressing how they think and feel about difficult topics and
discussions. Those observations become the story of that which is studied. Grounded
theory, according to Trochim et al. (2006) creates a setting where the researcher
develops theories and questions and then uses the qualitative data to expand the
theory and questions with links of understanding (P. 62). Those links of
understanding help provide a better how and why of research.
Distinguish between participant and nonparticipant observation; between concealed
and unconcealed observation.
Cresswell (2009) elaborates on the different roles of the researcher in observation
(P. 182). The roles of an observer include conducting observation as a participant or
just an observer, or unconcealed. The roles of observer can also include spending
time as a participant and then becoming an observer or spending more time as an
observer or participant and then filling the opposing role (observer or participant).
Another role option for the observer is to observe from the outside and move into the
setting, not as a participant but rather situated in the setting. Depending on the frame
of the information gathered any of these situations are acceptable as the data
gathering or researcher doesn t become intrusive or exclusive in whom they observe
to prove a point.

Concept Essay (Final Paper) How Success Breaks Down Into Life
I prefer sitting at a coffee shop to do works or read a favorite book, and sometimes
taking idly thoughts and wondering myself, How does a rich person define success?
Or, that, having lots of money, living in a big house, and owning all of the latest
cars, fashions, and technology is the key to happiness, and hence, success ? I
believe that the definition of success is deeply personal and surely will be different
for every man. I may have lived only nineteen years of the seventy years I might go
on to live, however, success is the thing that I am going to carry with throughout my
lifelong, and I know it to sufficiently to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even if you find yourself listing mostly objective factors, the subjective elements
have a way of tugging at you, don t they? The relationship between the objective
and the subjective is actually complicated and idiosyncratic. Subjective success is
an individual s response to an objective situation. A corporate lawyer may work for
a highly respected firm and have a lavish compensation package, but if her career
falls short of her dream to become a Supreme Court justice, for instance, or if
practicing law seems merely a good way to make a living and doesn t provide an
intellectual buzz, she won t feel successful. (Boris Groysberg and Robin Abrahams).
This is the essence of one of the life s great ironies: Money leads to success. This is
real world logic to say that money has always been a pursuit of man. Apparently,
money is critical in many ways, and to have more money means one can do bags
of thing. If I believe I have to choose between being rich and being healthy, why
would I want to go for rich? In sincerity, money gives one far better access to world
class healthcare, good vaccine, and better treatments. If one needs a special leading
edge procedure that s not available where he lives, he can simply fly to a place that
offers it. Being rich means one can give his family a better life, plus opportunities
that only money can buy. One will have time and resource to travel, meets nearly
anyone he wants, and enters in the

How To Write A Rogerian Essay

  • 1. How To Write A Rogerian Essay Writing an essay on the topic of "How To Write A Rogerian Essay" can be quite challenging for several reasons. First and foremost, the Rogerian essay approach itself is distinctive and requires a nuanced understanding of argumentation. Unlike traditional argumentative essays that often involve a clear-cut stance, a Rogerian essay aims to find common ground and understanding between opposing viewpoints. The difficulty lies in striking the right balance between presenting the opposing perspectives objectively and fostering a sense of empathy and understanding among readers. Crafting a Rogerian essay necessitates thorough research to grasp the intricacies of both sides of the argument. It's crucial to avoid sounding biased or favoring one viewpoint over the other, which adds an additional layer of complexity to the writing process. Furthermore, maintaining a respectful and conciliatory tone throughout the essay is essential, as the goal is to establish a sense of cooperation rather than confrontation. This requires careful choice of language, consideration of the target audience, and a strategic arrangement of arguments to create a harmonious flow. In essence, writing a Rogerian essay demands a high level of critical thinking, research skills, and a deep understanding of the nuances involved in mediating opposing viewpoints. It is a task that requires finesse in argumentation, as well as the ability to navigate complex ideas while maintaining a neutral and respectful tone. For those who find this task daunting or time-consuming, it's worth noting that there are resources available to help. The colonists were only just protesting. It is the British Troop s fault because they sent more troops to Boston, they panicked, and they killed and injured colonists.First, the British Government sent more troops to Boston to enforce the new acts the British Parliament made. They ought to have known how much the settlers hated their presence in the colony. However, the British kept on sending lobster backs there. They likewise sent very young, unpracticed, and rude troops to Boston. The fighters didn t have the life experience and information to de raise a stressful situation. The
  • 3. The April Fool s Mistake I do not think that Eugene TV stations overreacted about the April fool s joke. When you are putting something out into the media that involves being dishonest, you have to be very careful about the way that you go about it. This whole joke was not thought out well enough and the timing was way off. When the TV stations called to ask if it was true, the Emerald s director of media relations should have just fessed up to the joke and told the truth. This poorly planned joke would have just been written off and nobody would have cared about it. Although, she decided against that and thought lying would get them more publicity which in the end got them bad publicity. Lying to the media is the world move as a public relationsrepresentative. If I were her I would have also timed my joke a little better so that if it became a disaster, I would have time to fix my mistakes before it showed up in the morning news on local television. Also, I would advise against responding that she did not anticipate getting those phone calls. I am not really sure what she was expecting for after releasing that sort of news. The TV reporters were a little nicer with their comments than I would have been if someone lied to me. If I was her, I would come out with an apology and explain myself to the full extent and say that I understood that I lost my credibility but I would work tirelessly to gain back their respect. Instead, she tried to brush it under the table as if it was not a very big
  • 4. Rhetorical Analysis Of Success Is Counted Sweetest Rhetorical Analysis Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address and Emily Dickinson s Success is Counted Sweet, are two inspirational pieces of art that fall under two different types of discourses. The Second Inaugural Address, is a great example and definition of what Rhetoric is. It encompasses all four resources of languages argument, appeal, arrangement, and artistic devices. Success is Counted Sweet, doesn t cover the four resources of language that apply to rhetoric; therefore, it is categorized as a poem. According to the chapter, rhetoric addresses unresolved issues that do not dictate a particular outcome and in the process it engages our value commitments. (15). He states how both, the North and South, read the same Bible and pray to the same God, and neither the North nor South expected for the war the magnitude or the duration which it attained. Lincoln also maintains an optimistic tone throughout the speech and invokes unity with his parallel structured sentences. Emily Dickinson s Success is Counted Sweetest, doesn t cover all four resources of language. It is a poem that does not call for action but does create an emotional appeal for the people. Throughout her poem, she created an emotional appeal for success and its value and the desire and want for success. We see how she creates such emotion when she states, The distant strains of triumph break, agonizing and clear. What Dickinson means by this is that gaining success can be the most beautiful accomplishment but at the same time, agonizing to reach. This creates an emotional appeal for those who are living through the Civil War, making the people have a desire for peace, but they have to go through bloodshed in the process of gaining success. Emily Dickinson carries out artistic devices throughout her poem, which also creates an emotional appeal for the audience. She uses metaphors to describe success by stating, Success is counted sweetest. Dickinson also uses her poem to recreate what was occurring at the time of the war. She speaks of the purple Host which is the representation of the Army and capturing the

Management Theory And Practice Of Apple Management Theory and Practice 1 Abstract Management Theory and Pr actice encompasses a vast array of challenges, duties and obstacles in developing an organization with its unique culture and individual management roles. M anagement roles fall under the P O L C framework; planning, organizing, leading and controlling. Therefore, among myriad other roles, managers are tasked with strategy and leadership within the organizatio n and e ffective skills such as communication are a necessity. This paper looks at some of these issues and compares them with the real life example of Apple Corporation. Management Theory and Practice 2 Interaction Within An Organization Interaction within an organization sets the ton e and environment. It can foster creativity and productivity or can devalue and demean which, of course, will ultimately affect attitudes, productivity, loyalty, and turnover . Employees who enjoy a high level of job satisfaction and organization commitme nt will not only be more productive, and more open but will also create a positive picture of your organization outside and in the marketplace. In looking at the interaction within Apple Corporation there are mixed messages. The company, out of necessit y, values secrecy which can cause employees to feel stifled or isolated . On the other hand, this is a tech corporation whose very existence relies on creativity. Th ese mixed messages can result in a pressure cooker environment but undoubtedly Apple has been

These days, similar behaviours might be labeled problematic , hyperactive , and uncontrollable , often resulting in the diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and the prescription of a psychostimulant drug [CITE]. According to the DMS V, ADHD is described as a combination of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Due to the nature of the symptoms, ADHD can significantly hinder a child s ability to succeed in a school setting, both academically and socially, which could have dire implications for their future [CITE]. With almost 11% of children in the United States currently diagnosed with the disorder, ADHD has been labeled an epidemic and this has lead to a significant increase in the amount of research devoted to determining its cause and treatment [CITE]. The increased attention has also attracted a great deal of controversy, with medical experts questioning the safety of administering psychostimulant drugs to children. Although the evidence is often contradictory, due to an increase in the documentation of the adverse side effects in children caused by psychostimulant medication [CITE] as well as an increase in the evidence of nonpharmacological treatments successfully reducing the symptoms of ADHD, many parents have become reluctant in allowing their children to
  • 7. The Farm Of Many Faces The Farm of Many Faces Polyface Farm is a sustainable, organic based farm located in Shenandoah Valley, Virginia. It currently is run by four generations of the Salatin family, but the man with the most influence is Joel Salatin, who was named the worlds most innovative famer by Time Magazine. Joel and his family took some extremely eroded and worn out land and transformed it into the innovative, high field, symbiotic based farm it is today through their unconventional ways. Today they serve upwards to 6000 families, 25 restaurants, and 10 retail outlets all within a four hour radius, to keep it local and within their food shed. Polyface holds very similar values to both the farms within The Good Life and The Dirty Life. The Nearing s weren t too big on the idea of feeding the community as much as they were in to self sufficiency, but they did heavily rely on the natural system with in their way of life; planning everything according to seasons and relying on organics. They also believed in the importance of educating on the subject and allowed people to come, stay, and learn, just like the Salatins. The Essex Farm has much more in common principles wise. Kristen and Mark s goal was that they wanted to feed their community good, clean, healthy food, just like the Salatins. Kristen and Mark achieved this through sustainable practices and dedication to what they love. They maintained their CSA without advertisement and also focused on the importance of soil health just like the Polyface farm does. I believe that the Polyface farm is different in a sense that they have dedicated most of their efforts into creating and maintaining the symbiotic system that occurs within the farm, in contrast to the farms in The Good life and The Dirty Life. On Polyface, community is such an important aspect towards the Salatins goals; to provide good quality food to their food shed. The members who buy from the Salatins are all located within 4 hours of the farm in order to keep their products local. They refuse to mail products so instead they

This situation would be primarily due to their body language, eye contact, and/or confidence to name a few; it is a known fact that 95% of communication revolves around nonverbal cues such as these. This large percentage of nonverbal cues can be seen in the movie The Devil Wears Prada. An average but intelligent woman named Andy Sachs lands a job at a popular fashion magazine as Meryl Streep s aka Miranda Priestly s aka the devil s assistant. She has to deal with the devils difficult demands and trying to fit into this new world she had mocked before; as she proves, and seemingly loses, herself she must decide what she really wants and how to deal with Miranda. This movie contains many examples of nonverbal language, making it hard to narrow down. In the end I chose the three things I thought had the most prevalence in the movie: Influencing others/body movement, the ambiguous nature of nonverbal, and managing impressions Influencing Others/Physical Attractiveness How we look, act, and sound to others After a while of working there, Andy starts wearing more fashionable clothes and changes her hair/makeup. Along with this, as she gets more accustomed and comfortable with her job she gets more confidence in her body movements. One particular scene about 30 minutes into the movie, Andy walks into the office very confidently and

Jekyll And Mr Hyde Consequences Choices and Their Consequences In the novel, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the main character struggles with living a life where he is not able to rebel. Dr. Jekyll is a respected doctor in London and a person that rarely gets to be the opposite side of himself. So, in order to soothe the desire to defy who he typically is, he creates a potion that transforms him into an evil version of himself, Mr. Hyde. Mr. Hyde is capable of much more than that of Dr. Jekyll, including murder, blackmail and other unlawful acts. While Dr. Jekyll was in his opposite form, Mr. Hyde, he managed to murder a man named Sir Danvers Carew, Mr. Hyde broke out of all bounds, and clubbed (Carew) to the earth, (Stevenson 15). Dr. Jekyll quickly becomes addicted to this version of himself, he lives vicariously through this opposite side of himself, similar to how drug addicts do through using cocaine or meth. When he made the decision to use the potion one more time, it was in my own person that I was once more tempted to trifle with my conscience; and it was as an ordinary secret sinner that I at last fell before the assaults of temptation, this was his ultimate downfall (Stevenson 50).... The evidence shows that this is logically the case in the Verbermockle murder mystery. Knowing that he was killed using blunt force head trauma, either the weapon or the body would have made a loud noise from impact. Mrs. V would have been able to hear this loud bang in her own home. Any normal person would have rushed to the scene immediately after hearing the noise, especially if the impact was tough enough to cause a fracture in the rear of his skull, as the doctor had mentioned. In addition, Mr. V s body seems to be in front of the sink, implying that he was in front of the mirror at the time of the impact. Anyone would have been able to react if they saw someone behind them in the mirror. However, his body is placed as if he hadn t moved a muscle. Though if he saw his wife behind him, he wouldn t have had any worry of suspicion of an intruder. Most importantly, next to the body is a broken bottle of cologne or mouthwash that could have been used as the murder weapon. At the murder scene you can see that the victim has some type of liquid come from the back of his head, where he was hit at. The bottle was used to hit Mr. V in the back of the head causing a fracture in his skull while splashing the liquid on him at the same time. Unless the liquid coming from his head was blood, then bottle didn t splash on him during the attack. We also know that the attack would have to be fast and swift, as the body seems that he hadn t moved from the shower. Thus

Hardin focuses on population and the effect it has and will continue to have on what he refers to as the commons. The exploitation of natural resources or the tragedy of the commons, as he puts it, refers to all resources that are not formally regulated. Such resources include rivers, parks, the atmosphere, energy and so on. Robert Wade and James Acheson take different approaches in how the use of commonproperty can help address the tragedy of the commons. Hardin s primary focus is on the negative effects of a continuous population growth and the welfare state s inevitable need to support population growth. He often describes the optimum population being when growth rate approaches zero. Algae, like all organisms, normally grow in balance with their ecosystems, limited by the amount of nutrients in the water. But sometimes, algae can reproduce very rapidly, which causes damage. Harmful algal blooms have been increasing in the United States to the point where they occur along most of the coastlines and are common in many places: Specifically, Lake Erie. This has let them get away with discharging pollution into smaller waterways. Regulators disagree, since pollutants in these waterways drain into and threaten larger passable waters, too (CLEAN WATER ACT, par. 1 35). A change in climate can affect the algal blooms, making the blooms to increase rapidly. Strong winds can also drive blooms to the water s surface, where water intake pipes can draw contaminated water into systems serving municipality. Finally, a combination of warm temperature and excess nutrients can make the algae multiply. Algae can multiply quickly in waterways with an overabundance of and phosphorus, particularly when the water is warm and the weather is calm. Toledo did not have much luck last summer. A small bloom appeared directly over the city s water intake pipe affecting the water even more (Behind Toledo s Water Crisis , par. 10). Although climate can play a role in effecting the blooms, agricultural activities have an even bigger impact on the algae blooms. Agricultural practices, such as no till cropping, also reduced the amount of particulate phosphorus. On March 22, the Ohio lawmakers were on the same path of agreeing on a plan that would reduce the farm runoff that feeds the algae

The Virgin ordered Diego to collect Castilian roses around the hill and she helped him arrange them into his cloak. On December 12 when Diego returned to the Archbishop, he opened his tilmГЎtli or cloak in which the image of the Virgin appeared. In response, the archbishop honored the Virgin s request and built an altar in her honor. Today, The Basilica de Guadalupe in Tepeyac stands in dedication to the Virgin s first appearance and remains the most visited Catholic shrine. Because of the Virgin s Mexican history, she holds great significance to Mexican Catholics, so it is no surprise why the Virgin remains inherent in Mexican culture, or as literary scholar Debra J. Blake so aptly defined, Guadalupe equals Mexico. Both men and women admire the Virgin, but her religious setting provides a context for oppression through the church. NietoGomez explains how the church utilized Guadalupe s image, Marianismo, the veneration of the Virgin Mary, became the model of how to make oppression a religious obligation. This is the heritage of the Chicana. The church created a patriarchal role for themselves by weaving the Virgin s image as a pure mother to model ordinary women s behavior. By applying this method through the guise of subjugation, the Church rationalized their need to protect women in order to maintain their pure, moral status. Paradoxically, feminine virtues expressed by the Virgin as to be employed by women represents many contradictory elements. Debra

These Southern aristocratic ways of life are directly responsible for this overlying theme of pride which leads Mrs. Compson to lose her maternal instincts, abuse Dilsey, fail to make good investments, and get help from others. She is obsessed with her family s reputation which creates all of her flaws/shortcomings. The Southern code really influences all her decisions and the way she acts aloof around her family members. The two main choices of a film maker while choosing lens is either a prime lens (lens with a fixed focal length) or a zoom lens (lens with a variable focal length). For narrative film making prime lenses are best. Prime lenses are faster as compared to zoom lenses. Fast refers to the maximum opening (aperture) of the lens. Fast lenses (such as f/1.4 or f/1.8) allow shooting in low lighting conditions. Fast lenses allow capturing footage with a dramatically shallow depth of field. It gives more visual versatility. Prime lenses have fewer lens elements and give good sharp images in comparison to zoom lenses. For documentaries zoom lenses are better for their flexibility in creating

  • 19. The Science Of Destruction By Brian Caswell The Science of Destruction Leonard Mlodinow said, Politicians often misuse science for political ends and to pursue their own agenda. (2015). Science can be misused for gain, profit and destruction. This fact of life is clearly demonstrated throughout history, such as through excessive technological developments and through the splitting of the atom which has caused more devastation than good. Although these were all intended to be good and of benefit to the world, they have been abused and contaminated by some. Throughout A Cage of Butterflies the main focus of the antagonist s attention is money, power and fame. Larsen believes that if he understands what the Babies are, and what they can do, he can develop a drug, or experiment on the existing fictional drug Metamide . Ultimately developing this drug would provide the world with one of the most powerful weapons ever seen and millions of dollars in Larsen s bank account. Susan remarks about how Larsen cares only for this money, power and fame by saying, ... what makes you think they d be left alone? Larsen would publish. He s hungry for the glory. And once their secret was out there d never be any peace. (Caswell, 1992, Pg. 86) The teens from the Adolescent Advanced Learning Facility know that Larsen is secretly abusing his power and are willing to do what they can to stop him. This sad reality is quite prominent in the world of science, and in many cases it does go by unnoticed. The Space Race of the 1960 s is a good example of this as it is very clear now that it was for profit and gain. The Space Race was the continuation of the Cold Waras Russia and America worked to reach space first . It spawned from the arms race and whoever won the race would finally have victory over the other country. Though Russia was the first country to reach space,

Caring for others is the counterbalance against the temptation to pursue the mission at any cost. Respect. • 23. Cellulosic Ethanol Cons It s not easy being green. This jeremiad of Kermit the Frog rings all too common in today s energy production crisis. Now more than ever the US needs its energy to be derived from natural, renewable resources. As George W Bush, an oil supporter, even stated, America is addicted to oil (Ratliff, 2012). It s now become evident to those in authoritative roles in the American government that oil will not be able to sustain our nation unceasingly. Attempts at funding alternative energy sources have included exploration of various types of ethanol sugar, corn and cellulose. Out of these three, the most promising is the possibility of ethanol derived from cellulose. Cellulosic ethanol is a source of energy from fibrous plant material that may... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The composition may pose a problem, but the components are also valuable in that they are natural, renewable resources. Using natural resources instead of oil would lower the US s dependence on foreign oil. By lowering our oil intake from other countries, the US can reduce military spending that is directed at maintaining oil supplies, and instead spend this money on other costs for internal matters. In addition, most infrastructure is already formed to adapt to this ethanol. Most cars on the road in the US are Fuel Flex capable, so it would pose no needed change. Also, around the country there are about 2000 E85 spots available at gas stations. Overall, its energy output is 2 to 36 times the energy required to produce it. With more energy output, there is less fuel needed to be created (using less resources) and consumers will be able to pay less at the pump and instead use it for other expenses. Most notable, is the fact that using ethanol reduces 85 94% of emissions compared to oil. Reducing emissions will in turn lower the greenhouse effect, and lessen global warming effects (GreenTheFuture). In general, this matter is low costing or free. Municipal solid waste, which can be used, can even be subsidized to take, since normally it would have to be paid for for its disposal in a landfill. By using non edible fuel crops and municipal solid waste, consumer prices for groceries will not be driven upward, unlike corn, which uses farmland that otherwise would have been used for food production. Thus, corn drives up the price of food (Christian, Jan. 5, 2015). While opponents argue that it would require vast farming operations, meaning clearcutting in some cases, acquisition of

Only 26, 246 transplantations occurred between January and November of 2011, (UNOS, 2012, Transplant Trends). There is a huge contrast in the number of people needing organs and the number of organs actually available for transplantation. It does not seem right that an organ donor should be expected to risk their health and life with absolutely no consideration afforded to the potential consequences that may be inflicted upon the donor. Considering all of the risks a donor must take on, it only seems fair to provide some sort of compensation for their actions. Justice theory focuses on the rights persons are entitled to, while also taking into considerations the duties imposed on persons in society (Parks, 2010, p. 10). Duties are the actions that are required of citizens living within a community as part of their social contract (Parks, 2010, p. 10). Although being altruistic and donating an organ to another human being is the current process utilized for obtaining organs, it is not necessarily a citizen s duty to do so. Since donating organs is not a duty that citizens must uphold, it only makes sense that these persons should be compensated for their actions. The current process of altruism may actually inhibit those who would otherwise donate if some sort of compensation was offered. Not everyone can afford to miss 1 2 months of work, develop debilitating health concerns, or run the risk of losing health insurance. These issues are easily overlooked when donating to a relative, but sometimes even having a relative in need is not enough. An Example Of Diffusion Of The Plasma Membrane I.Introduction There s not much that comes to mind when it s time for that first cup of coffee in the morning except hoping that it s strong enough to stimulate the mind for the time being. This real life scenario is an example of diffusion. Simple right? When cream is poured into coffee it remains heavily concentrated in the area it was poured at and eventually spreads throughout it. The more the coffee is stirred the quicker the cream spreads even more. Sugar would do the same thing as well. This is an example of how the interstitial fluids work within the bodies of humans. Interstitial fluids that enclose in on a cell would be the cell membraneor the plasma membrane s doing. It creates a barrier between the internal fluids and the exterior environment. When the body moves, the diffusing of the molecules within it accelerates. The plasma membrane is made up of many substances, like salts, vitamins, nutrients, waste products, etc... The plasma membrane dictates what enters and makes sure it s sufficient. It blocks out the other substances that isn t needed. Also it happens to be selectively permeable. This means either the molecules progress on without a hassle or there may be a little difficulty to progress on. Materials traverse through the membrane by two methods, which are called passive process and active process. In this lab passive process is part of the main focus. Energy from the cell isn t a necessity when it comes to passive process. The word diffuse

  • 31. Social Class And The Middle Class Essay Social class can be defined as a social construct which is used to describe a group of people with similar levels of wealth, influence and status. They tend to have dramatically different values and mannerisms to others groups, for example, the working class are seen as uneducated and unskilled workers, whereas the middle class are seen as highly educated people with high incomes (Harcourt, 2016). Despite there being other social classgroups, including, the upper class, this essay will explore the portrayal of the working class, lower class, also known as the underclass , and the middle class in reality television, using the example of Wife Swap. The working class and the lower class groups have been increasingly visible on British television screens in recent years, mainly because the increasingly popular genre of reality television features them heavily (Morley, 2009). Debates have sparked on whether the use of ordinary people on such programmes is democratising or exploitative. It could be argued that because the working class were not on such programmes, audiences and society therefore had no access to them and their lifestyles. However, the great exposure of working classes on reality television programmes now provides access to them and allows people to observe and judge how they behave and how they live. It is not a recent discovery that disadvantaged individuals, families and communities are portrayed in negative lights by the media (Crossley and Slater, 2014),

  • 38. Mockingbird Essays Mockingbird The prejudice seen in the fictional novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee corresponds with the narrow mindedness of many people during this time period. Due to this prejudice, a fair trial would be unlikely between a white and a black man. In the novel, Tom Robinson was presumed guilty because of his race and did not receive a fair trial because the jury had formed adverse opinions of him prior to the presentation of any evidence. The reasons the jury had for its verdict were formed without just grounds or before sufficient knowledge going back to the definition of prejudice stated in paragraph two. The jury had its decision made before the case ever made it into the courtroom. The jury consisted of all white men but it is not to say that a jury of all black men would have been any fairer. The prejudice during the Great Depression did not only come from the whites, many blacks also felt hate for the white men. The prejudice of white men towards black men can be seen in To Kill a Mockingbird, especially during the trial between Mr. Ewell and Tom Robinson over the alleged rape of his daughter Mayella. In To Kill a Mockingbird, prejudice is seen repeatedly. Tom Robinson did not have a chance at winning the trial solely because he was black. Despite the lack of prejudice on Judge Taylor s behalf, the overwhelming prejudice in the jury convicted Tom, sentencing him to the death penalty the penalty for rape in Alabama. Judge Taylor shows that he lacks prejudice by

  • 40. Fate In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet Fate is a power that controls the course of events in the universe. Prevalent in many of William Shakespeare s works, fate often appears when a protagonist grapples with the hold fate has upon their lives. In the play Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare introduces the idea of fate when two people fall in love despite the long standing feud between their two families, the Capulets and the Montagues. As Romeo and Juliet fall deeper in love, tensions between the houses increase, and the two lovers plot how to rewrite fate in order to be together, such as wishing time to pass faster or slower and disobeying their family s wishes. When Juliet s father pressures her to marry Paris, Juliet refuses, stating, Not proud, you have; but thankful, that you have/Proud can I never be of what I hate (III v 151 152). In this line, Juliet explains that she is not proud of how Capulet arranged the marriage of her and Paris without her permission. Juliet acts out against her father and fate s plan to keep Romeo and Juliet apart, as Juliet chooses Romeo over Paris. During this Elizabethan era, people follow the Great Chain of Being, a hierarchical structure to life. In this structure, women are supposedly subordinate to men, and daughters were expected to demonstrate filial piety and respect towards their parents. Although Juliet is still acting polite to Capulet, this small of act of defiance is considered very bold, as she contravened the Great Chain of Being. Later, when the Nurse encourages Juliet to forget about Romeo and just marry Paris, Juliet exclaims, I ll to the Friar, to know his remedy: If all else fail, myself have power to die (III v 254 255 ). Throughout most of the play, Juliet is complacent in her actions and usually takes on a passive role in the romance. She waits for Romeo to seek her out and sends the Nurse off on errands to look out for Romeo. However, when Juliet finally decides to run to the Friar for advice on her own as opposed to depending on the Nurse again,

The most common type of ovarian canceris derived from the epithelial cells. According to the American Cancer Society, ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death from all types of cancer that are related to the female reproductive system. More importantly, most patients who suffer from ovarian cancer do not develop any kind of symptoms in the early stages. Unfortunately, due to this asymptomatic onset, ovarian cancer is usually diagnosed at a later stage, meaning it has already caused significant damage to the surrounding tissues. In rare cases, ovarian cancer is only diagnosed when it has already metastasized. When symptoms do appear, they vary from patient to patient. The majority of ovarian cancer symptoms are nonspecific, meaning that they could appear in other conditions as well. Having any of the symptoms does not mean that cancer is present. By rejecting spoon fed aphorisms for self discovery through altruism and economic simplicity, these writers, and indeed a whole subculture of American beatniks and Buddhists in the 50 s and 60 s, set a new precedent for those willing to find their own way. Ginsberg expresses a light hearted distaste of the supermarket lifestyle in his poem, A Supermarket in California. He envisions himself wandering around the supermarket, surrounded by consumers eyeing produce, and, among them, Walt Whitman and Garcia Lorca. He seems to be fascinated and repulsed at the same time by the phenomenon, everyone looking and poking at the items to be bought, and he wonders what their real motives in being there are. He imagines Whitman to be there out of loneliness, flirting with the young stockboys, pretending, like everyone else, to be interested in the products. Ginsberg s vision of America is of a whole population so lonely and dispassionate that they have turned to these big bright places full of people and things to look at just to have something to do. It is notable that Ginsberg and Whitman leave the supermarket together, not having purchased anything at all. They have taken part in the ritual of loneliness without buying into the need for things. Naturalistic observation gathers data to provide a complete and accurate picture of what occurs in a setting, (Cozby Bates, 2014, P. 119). The observation describes qualitatively events such as how people make decisions and how they solve problems using the skills individually and sometimes as a group think (Cozby Bates, 2014). Observational study in a naturalistic setting allows the participants to feel comfortable expressing how they think and feel about difficult topics and discussions. Those observations become the story of that which is studied. Grounded theory, according to Trochim et al. (2006) creates a setting where the researcher develops theories and questions and then uses the qualitative data to expand the theory and questions with links of understanding (P. 62). Those links of understanding help provide a better how and why of research. Distinguish between participant and nonparticipant observation; between concealed and unconcealed observation. Cresswell (2009) elaborates on the different roles of the researcher in observation (P. 182). The roles of an observer include conducting observation as a participant or just an observer, or unconcealed. The roles of observer can also include spending time as a participant and then becoming an observer or spending more time as an observer or participant and then filling the opposing role (observer or participant). Another role option for the observer is to observe from the outside and move into the setting, not as a participant but rather situated in the setting. Depending on the frame of the information gathered any of these situations are acceptable as the data gathering or researcher doesn t become intrusive or exclusive in whom they observe to prove a point.
