Cause And Effect Essay On Poverty
Crafting an essay on the intricate theme of poverty, exploring its causes and effects, is
undeniably a challenging endeavor. This subject demands a nuanced understanding of economic,
social, and political dynamics, making it imperative to navigate a complex web of interconnected
factors. Delving into the roots of poverty requires meticulous research to unveil the multifaceted
reasons that contribute to its existence.
The initial hurdle lies in sifting through an extensive pool of literature to gather relevant data and
scholarly perspectives. The abundance of information can be overwhelming, necessitating a
discerning eye to distinguish between credible sources and biased opinions. Analyzing statistical
data, historical contexts, and sociological theories further compounds the difficulty, as it requires
a comprehensive grasp of diverse disciplines.
The challenge extends to the critical task of organizing these myriad insights into a coherent and
persuasive argument. Sequencing ideas to establish a logical flow while maintaining the essay's
cohesion is no small feat. Balancing the exploration of causes and effects demands a delicate
equilibrium, ensuring that neither aspect overshadows the other, and the narrative remains well-
rounded.
Moreover, conveying the gravity of the issue while fostering empathy without resorting to
oversimplification is a tightrope walk. It requires a nuanced approach to articulate the
interconnectedness of poverty with systemic issues and individual circumstances. Striking a
balance between depth and accessibility is crucial to engage readers without sacrificing the
complexity inherent in the subject.
In conclusion, composing a cause and effect essay on poverty is a formidable task that demands
a combination of research acumen, analytical prowess, and effective communication skills.
Tackling such a multifaceted topic necessitates a commitment to thorough exploration and a
dedication to presenting a well-rounded perspective. For those seeking assistance, it's worth

Plagues In The Book Of Exodus
The book of exodus speaks about slavery of the Israelite by the Egyptians and how
God uses Moses to release them out of captivity. The Israelite was in slavery for a
number of years before they were release. Pharaoh had ordered all the male babies
of the isrealites to be killed. Pharoah was scared of the strength that these babies
will have when they become men. God send a number of plagues on the Egyptians
before he finally released them. The most interesting part of the plagues on the
Egyptians was that God harden Pharaohs heart through the plagues that his people
faced. Pharoah was willing to let the people of Isreal go but God harden his heart.
Why? With all the plagues that the Egyptians faced Pharoah was willing to let the

The Creation Of Adam s Ceiling Essay
According to arthistory.about.com The Creation of Adam is a fresco painting by
Michelangelo, which is on the Sistine Chapel s ceiling. The Sistine Chapel forms
part of the large Papal Chapel built within the Vatican by Pope Sixtus IV. Pope Julius
II asked Michelangelo to paint the Sistine Chapel s ceiling in 1508. Michelangelo
painted the ceiling from July 1508 to October 1512. The creation of Adam was
painted in 1511. In fact, The Creation of Adam took less than three weeks to
complete. In the Sistine Chapels this painting is located next to the Creation of Eve,
which is the panel at the center of the room, and the Congregation of the Waters,
which is closer to the altar. The ceiling measures about 141 feet by 43 feet.
Michelangelo painted over 5,000 square feet of frescoes. (arthistory.about.com)
According to www.britannica.com/art/fresco painting fresco painting is a method of
painting water based pigments on freshly applied plaster, usually on wall surfaces.
The colors are made by grinding dry powder pigments in pure water. Then, the paint
dries and sets with the plaster to become a permanent part of the wall. Fresco painting
is ideal for making murals because it lends itself to a monumental style, is durable,
and has a matte surface. This contributed to why Michelangelo chose to paint using
this style. (www.britannica.com/art/fresco painting)
I selected The Creation of Adam for this paper because of its popularity and I have
seen it in many places. In church, my
Rhetorical Analysis Of Dodge Ram Trucks
Dodge Ram Trucks, a division of the Chrysler Group created in 2009, focused on
the public needs with the pickup truck. In a male dominated truck industry,
approximately 11% of pickup trucks in the United States are registered to females.
With such a small number of percentage of women truck owners, Ram debuted a
television advertisement. In 2015, during the 141st Kentucky Derby to appeal to
female buyers. By doing so, they inspired women to break the stereotypes,
specifically the male dominated truckindustry. Through its carefully incorporated
narration, Ram appeals to the courage of women through aural and visual techniques
and utilizes specific examples of females, who overcame obstacles in their profession,
to provide further inspiration and create a valuable rhetorical commercial.
Ram s advertisement immediately begins by utilizing logos and pathos to embolden
women to fight against stereotypes. First, the commercial s narration uses a series of
repetitive rhetorical questions to inspire the audacious emotions of the audience. Ram
repeats have you ever thought multiple times to capture the female viewer s attention.
This technique establishes an understanding and inviting tone that prepares the
viewer for Ram s overarching message. Next, allowing the viewer to ponder these
rhetorical questions, Ram briefly pauses the narration. Following this pause, Ram
articulates their message: You can break a stereotype and throw it into a whole nother
gear. Because
Obstacles In The Odyssey
Life is like an obstacle course, you run into multiple obstacles on the way to the
finish line, and there s no telling how many hindrances you may encounter. Very few
people can go their whole life without obstacles along the way, others can t seem to
get away from them, but with every obstacle comes a beneficial or deleterious
concomitant. In the epic The Odyssey, a king named Odysseus, whose wife had just
given birth, was forced to soldier in the Trojan War. This event had a tremendous
effect on Odysseus s life along with his wife and son. After the war had finished, he
and his fellow companions intended on sailing back home, but not until 10 years
does Odysseus finally arrive at Ithaca. Through the many obstacles he had faced,
A Note On Dirk Niepoort
Introduction
In a short time, the Douro has created itself as Portugal s premium wine region. The
change that is now taking place in this most extraordinary wine regions. The
suddenly joined vineyards hold some delightful terroirs. Because the economic
domination of the Port trade it is only lately that these have been broadly oppressed
to produce premium wines. Table winehas continuously been made here but, with a
couple of noteworthy omissions, it has been unattractive stuff, typically badly made
from low quality grapes that were leftover to the requirements of Port producers.
Numerous factors have united to change this situation. Most significantly, a critical
mass of concurring winemakers has arisen, passionate about making the very best
wines that these extraordinary terroirs are proficient of. Dirk Niepoort has been a
key player in current developments in the region. As well as producing some
dazzlingly expressive Douro wines himself, he has been acting as a ingredient by
inspiring the leading wine producers to get together and spur each other on to better
things. (Goode 2016.)
Analysis
A few years later, events conspired to escalate the exports of Portuguese wine to
England. In 1667 Colbert, first minister of Louis XIV, embarked on a series of
measures to restrict the import of English goods into France. This provoked Charles
II of England into increasing the duty on French wines and later forbidding their
import altogether, obliging the English wine trade to seek
Amazing Grace And Twilight Analysis
Segregation is one of the many themes that connect Amazing Grace and Twilight.
Segregation is the most prominent problem discussed in both pieces. It is also
shown in a variety of ways, through economic class, race, and by making physical
and mental being examples. People in power choosing to ignore a problem that has
arisen in its people.
From what I ve read, people are not even attempting to hide their judgement, they
make it clear that they see people of color and who live in poverty as a problem. One
they do not want to deal with. The lucky majority segregate themselves from
minorities without caring about the affect it will have. The apparent consensus of the

But it isn t only language because no one talks that way to a rich lady who does
not speak English. Go downtown. You ll see what I mean. Sometimes these women
come from Italy or Argentina or from Spain. They go in the stores in their beautiful
clothes. They re treated like celebrities. It isn t the language. It s skin color and
being poor. This is something more than disrespect. It s as if they wish that you did
not exist so they would not have to be bothered. (page 46 Amazing Grace) A young

in upper class shops. She can hear the annoyance in their voices, and how they

every need. It is showing that they have no patience for those who look a certain
way because social segregation has gotten so bad, especially in New York.
Segregation is forced down these people s throats, everywhere they go people are
harassing them or darting dirty looks for being in certain neighborhoods or shops.

Gail Godwin s Fiction Writing Essay
Gail Godwin in my opinion was and still is a very talented fiction writer. She has
written many novels and many short stories like A Sorrowful Woman and Dream
Children, which is plotted around psychological realism. I enjoyed these stories
because they both included realistic aspects of life. Like a womanhaving marital
complications. By reading these stories you will see that Gail is a feminist author
who explores the trials are ordeals of modern women. According to the
Contemporary Novelists 7th edition, Gail Godwin usually portrayed her mother as
the strong feminine characters in some of her stories. Gail uses different styles and
techniques of writing, an example of this could be the way she wrote A Sorrowful
Woman which is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the MOLP, in A Sorrowful Woman, Godwin also tries to shows that a
woman with narrow options unsuccessfully tries to escape her condition through
withdrawal and isolation. According to the info I find in my research from MOLP,
an example of this is from the story where after baking a loaf of bread she receives
gratitude from her husband and son, but as soon as she feels that they are thankful,
she feels pressed into a corner, and becomes nervous, as a result she starts working
busily, which included cooking a spontaneous meal, doing laundry, creating
paintings and writing love sonnets. The part in which this is portrayed in the story
is when, the woman locks her self up in the room that used to be used by the house
keeper they had hired when her sorrow was still in its infancy. The woman
basically trying to run away from reality because of what more was expected from
her by society. Because during that time in history (beginning of the last quarter of
the 20th century) women were expected to be married and have a family, and in the
same period in history not all wives had jobs outside the household, so everything
that they could not do outside the house was to be done inside the house.
In think that writing a Sorrowful Woman during that period

Competition in the Bottled Water Industry Essay
Competition in the Bottled Water Industry
1. List and describe the dominant economic characteristics of the bottled water
industry.
В•Market size and growth rate В– The industry is size is worldwide with a growth
rate averaging nearly 9% from 1996 2001 (with a U.S. per capita growth from 20
gallons per year in 2001 to 26 gallons per year in 2005.)
В•Number of buyers В– There is a significant number of buyers in the U.S. and
internationally. No one buyer accounts for a significant fraction of overall market
demand.
В•Buyer needs and requirements В– Buyer needs have been changing recently due to
an increase of people being more health conscious and also due to increased
concerns over the quality of tap water after scares in Milwaukee ... Show more

I believe that there are exceptions in the office/home delivery market where the large
companies do not operate.
В•Learning and experience curves
2. What does a six force analysis of competition in the bottled water indicate?
В•Firms in other industries offering substitute products В– The main substitute is tap
water. Until consumers become less concerned about the quality of their location s
tap water, the bottled water industry will remain. The large companies are also the
companies that offer the substitute products. Soda, coffee, any drinkable liquids are
more than likely sold by pepsi or coca cola. This force is not only weak for this
reason but also because it appears that consumers are on a trend to remain health
conscious and therefore will steer away from soda.
В•New entrants В– new entrants do not pose a strong threat to bottled water
companies that exist in the industry. To be successful, a new company must have a
distributor that can distribute their product and pepsi and coca cola have exclusive
contracts with many retailers.
В•Supplier bargaining power В– a strong force may be supplier bargaining power. A
company that leases the land where it draws its supply from may decide to up the
lease price. A water company may also decide to raise its rates and therefore cause a
company to raise its prices. Supplier bargaining power may be quite strong due to the

Carpentry Has Had A Great Impact On The Construction
Industry
Carpenters are the second largest group with more than 1.3 million carpenters in the
workforce in the United States. (Carpenters 481). Carpentry has had a great impact on
the construction industry, such as using hand and power tools to cut, shape, and
combine wood, metal, and plastics. Carpentry is the technique of working various
different types of woods, metals, and plastics, shaping those products into works art.
A carpenter constructs and repairs buildingframeworks and structures. Carpenters
make stairways, door frames, partitions, and rafters out of wood and other materials,
including metals and metal products, concrete, plastics, and fiberglass. Some
carpenters specialize in installing kitchen cabinets, siding, and drywall. Although
carpentryhas many branches such as residential, commercial, and industrial
carpenters, the most common types include: rough carpentry and finish carpentry. (
Carpenters pg. 84) Rough carpentry is constructing and installing of temporary
structures and supporting structures. Carpenters use blueprints, sketches, and oral
instruction from the home owner to build the structures. They build and produce
frames, rafters, floor joists, subflooring, wall sheathing, prefabricated wall panels
along with prefabricated windows, and many other components. Rough carpenters
also build parts of buildings that are covered up after the structure is completed, along
with building wooden structures and supporting structures used in industrial
Adam Corolla Usc Lecture Essay
Adam Carolla Lecture Paper
One of the basic tenets of life is that greater opportunities will appear to individuals
that actively pursue and know how to recognize them. Since the majority of us do
not have the luxury of being born into wealth or power, the choices that we make
ultimately shape our successes in life. Adam Carolla begins by using examples to
highlight the concepts of consistency and residual income. He explains that it is
easier and more useful to understand how to sell something and continue selling it
again and again as opposed to figuring out how to simply make a large amount of
money. As a student that had performed poorly in high school, he worked a variety
of jobs including carpet cleaner and boxing trainer ... Show more content on

Conversely, Adam Carolla cites an example of negative reinforcement being used
as a form of motivation. He refers to his time working as a carpet cleaner out of
high school and the pain he felt from working a horrible job with people he did not
like. Carolla explains that by being miserable at a bad job, he learned he did not
want to continue working at a career that he did not enjoy. Using pain as a
motivating factor, this realization forced Adam to forge a better career path for
himself. Another important aspect of creating opportunities revolves around the
concept of doing a job well regardless of whether you enjoy it or not. In reality, the
dream job is not typically the first job, the second job, or even the third. However,
this does not count as an excuse for not performing to the highest capacity at any
level of work. Adam expands, saying that it is crucial to get in the habit of doing
things well and not judge a job because you it feel it might be below you. Doing a
job properly and to the fullest ability demonstrates attention to the detail and is a
key indicator of overall job performance to employers. Experience and knowledge
are also key elements that an individual can use to take advantage of opportunities. In
order to obtain chance for advancement, it is imperative to commit the time to
understand all the aspects of a job and acquire the knowledge necessary for when the
opportunity does come. In
Stereotypes In The Searchers Movie
The Searchers (1956) directed by John Ford is a Western movie following the life
of Ethan Edwards as he searches for his niece, Debby, who was captured by a
Comanche tribe. In this film, there is a scene (1:13:42 1:15:50) which shows Ethan
and Marty going into a US Cavalry fort to see if the Cavalry officers have Debby or
not. When Ethan and Marty go into the fort, they see a white woman on the floor,
screaming and rocking around, and two girls sitting dumbly. Then Ethan and Marty
decide that Debby is not there and leave.
In this scene, diegetic sound, sound that can be heard by the actors, is a prominent
element. Dialogue is heard in this scene, and is exchanged by a few of the characters

In the time this film was made, the dying days of the classic Western, Native
Americans were being portrayed as the savage side less and less. (ref: http:/
/www.rogerebert.com/reviews/great movie the searchers 1956). The director, John
Ford, believed that hatred of Native Americans was wrong, but the message in this
scene of the film contradicts his beliefs. However this does not mean John Ford
was racist, it simply shows the ideas that were common in society in the time this
film was made. John Ford used the characters Ethan and the US Cavarly officers to
embody the ideas of society in the 1950 s. Later in the film, the prejudice against
Native Americans reduces in Ethan s character. At the time of this scene, he hates
Native Americans with no exceptions. However near the end of the movie he
becomes more tolerant of Native Americans, for example when he brought Debby
home safely instead of killing her. As killing Debby would ve put Ethan into bad
light, the decision of him not killing her brings an anti racism message, which was
something that John Ford believed in. This helps highlight change of character in
Ethan. It shows that people should look past race and skin colour when making
decisions about and loving people. In comparison to the racist message in
Significance Of Magna Charta
Magna Charta is a Great Charter agreed by King John of England in 1215. It was
an important symbol of political freedom. Charter became a part of English
political life but after English Parliament passed new laws, it lost its significance.
After hundreds years Magna Carta was used by Parliament to protect itself from a
powerful king. It gave no real freedom to the majority of people in England. Magna
Charta was a peace treaty between the King and the rebel barons. The nobles wrote
it and forced King John to sign it. They wanted to be sure that John didn t go beyond
his rights as feudal lord. Magna Charta established common laws which replaced the
old feudal rules. Common law applies to everyone without exception. In its original

Fascist Italy and Population Essay
Overall, the fascist experiment in Italy was a failure. Benito Mussolini aimed to

the matters of the Jewish war. He helped him understand the Jewish nation and
helped with negotiations. He pled with Jerusalem to surrender to the Romans.
They called him a traitor. At this point, all he could do was witness the destruction

Now that stack has been explained in a simplified way the rest of the paper will talk
more about the origin of stack data structure, more advanced stack situations, main
uses, and possibilities that could be used in future references.
Stacks was developed by a guy named Alan M. Turing. According to the CIA
government information on Turing, he is an English mathematician, logician,
cryptanalyst , and founder of computer science(Enigma, 2015). He was born in
London, 23 June 1912, to upper middle class British parents who raised him in a
traditional schooling system that was ran by the British imperial system. Turing
entered the computer science world in his computer design where he uses the term
bury and unbury as a means of calling upon and returning the subroutines which
were implemented back in 1945 by Konrad Zuse. The idea was proposed by the
Technical University of Munich back in 1955 and the patent was filed in 1957. This
is how he is known as one of the main creators of stacks. Turing s short and
extraordinary life has attracted wide interest (Plato, 2013).
He is known for his contributions to the artificial intelligence and computer science
community before it even existed. He is most known for what is now called the
Turing Test and that is a process of testing an computer s ability to make its own
decisions or think so to say. A little bit more information on Turing s life is that he
dominated the world of technology of the twentieth century and he
Utilitarianism And Kantianism
Instagram s move to make a profit from advertising by changing the terms of service
failed to meet the company s objective and destroyed the trust of the users, the most
significant players for the success of the entity. Changing the privacy policy and term
of use without informing the 12 million daily users was way beyond an ethical thing
to do. To illustrate the argument, the act will be examined using two ethical theories
namely, Utilitarianism and Kantianism. Before tackling on these theories, we must
understand that Ethicsare the moral principles where we base our assessment for
what is right or wrong (Birt et. al. 2014) and how such action may affect others (Zhu,
May Avolio, 2010). The belief that such action is morally right or... Show more

The philosophy revolves on two essential idea that a.) it is a duty to treat humanity
with fairness, dignity and respect (Hill, 2007); and b.) it is the motive of the person
that makes the action right or wrong (Birt et. al., 2014) . Kantianism is espoused by
Immanuel Kant which simply emphasized that people should do what is right
because it is one s duty to deal with humanity as you handle yourself. Unlike
utilitarianism which is concerned with the outcomes of the action, Kant
emphasized that one need not necessarily think about the consequence of the
action as long as the act itself is morally good (Shaw, Barry, Issa Catley, 2013). He
further described that an action can be interpreted as morally right if it is made
out of good will and respect and not taking advantage of the situation (Birt et. al.,
2010). In an organization, people make decisions. The person who makes a
decision or action should be prudent enough to identify that such action is
universally right. And so he is acting wilfully out of good intentions. As with
Instagram, the information for the change was not intended for the public to have a
choice and the change was made when 12 million users are already using their
applications apps . This may be understood that Instagram did not respect their users
because they were not given the opportunity to make a choice as to whether they
will agree or not on sharing their personal information (profile and photos). The
purpose of the decision was for the good of Instagram and the users in the company s
perspective. They have to take advantage of the marketability of Instagram which was
instigated with the growing number of users and the merger with bigger social media
outfit. The idea that many advertisers are now willing to invest with the entity made
them choose to change the terms and made the users information available for

Becker Muscular Dystrophy (BMD)
Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD) is an x linked recessive inherited disorder
characterized by slowly progressive muscle weakness of legs and pelvis. This
disease primarily effects voluntary muscles such as muscles of the hips, pelvic area,
thighs and shoulders. Since this disease effects all your muscles they d weaken your
heartas well. Most people with BMD often develop cardiomyopathy ( disease in the
heart muscle).
The heart muscle deteriorates like the skeletal and smooth muscles which would
make it difficult to walk, people with BMD might waddle a little they may walk on
their toes or stick out their abdomen. Symptoms for BMD usually begins with the
hips and the pelvic area muscles start to weaken which causes people who suffer

Okonkwo s Downfall
In Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, Okonkwo, the tragic hero, allowed his fear
of failure to rule and ruin not only his life but those close to him. Eventually, his
fear led to him committing suicide while his tribe lost its religion and culture and
was overrun by Christians. Okonkwo s hubris derived from his father, Unoka. Unoka
was lazy, buried in debt, womanly , and irresponsible. Okonkwowas very ashamed
because of his father s reputation. To not be the man his father was, Okonkwo
strived to be the best of what he could be. He defeated the top wrestler in his village
because his father wasn t physical, so he pushed himself to excel at being violent.
He showed no mercy to his wives or children when they did not listen to him in order

The culture of the Igbo was destroyed by the missionaries. The white men
influenced the majority of the young men into following their new faith by
alluding to a life without an attachment to ancient traditions. Tribe members who
were outcasts gravitated to the missionaries since they were not able to be one of
the important members of the Igbo community. Specifically, a parallel is
Okonkwo s harshness driving Nowye to the new religion. Okonkwo was a
stubborn father, who only wanted the best life for his son. But, Nwoye never
knew his father s feelings and perceived his father as a hateful man. Also, Nowye
wasn t like Okonkwo s other children because he was inactive in the manual labor.
So, he followed the faith of the missionaries because there were others just as
lonely and confused about where they would fit in there and he in return would be
accepted. He then converted to Christianity. As a result, he became a successful
man, but not the way his father imagined. Okonkwo was effected in the sense he
was baffled by his own son s decision to mimic the white man even though he raised
him to be a man of the Igbo clan. He focused all his energy in reassuring his son
wouldn t replicate his own father that he lost control of his son.
Okonkwo s suicide parallels the Igbo s morals and traditions falling apart. As the
village was losing members to the white men, he was losing his own son. The impact

China s Largest Population On Earth
Introduction China is home to the largest population on Earth and they have
experienced dramatic growth during their recent history. China s GDP in 1952 was a
mere 67.9 billion USD which has grown to 10.87 trillion USD today. This GDP
growth is mirrored and positively correlated with China s tremendous population
growth. Chinahas experienced a population growth from under 552 million in 1950
to nearly 1.4 billion today. This tremendous growth has brought about an increased
dependence on the advanced production of food in China. In order to feed this
growing population farmers have been forced to effectively grow their crops and
increase their cultivation per square meter for their farm land. Food has been a staple

In October of 2005 the preserved remains of ancient noodles were discovered at the
Lajia archaeological site which sits on the second terrace of the Yellow River near
Qinghai. These noodles where a revolutionary find allowing anthropologists to
further research ancient Chinese food. The noodles were made from foxtail and
broom corn millet and were preserved for thousands of years in the rock. From
these findings it is clear that grain based noodles have been a staple part of the
Chinese diet for thousands of years. During the time frame from around 2070 BC to
221 BC five chief grains made up the staple diet of the Chinese. This time period
included the Xia, Shang, Zhou dynasties and the Warring States Periodis commonly
referred to as the period of five grains. Anthropologists and historians have found
and studied many different records that argue over which grains were in fact a part
of the five grains. According the Classic of Rites which was comprised by
Confucius and his followers during the 6th century the five staple grains included
soybeans, rice, proso millet, foxtail millet, and wheat. Scholars argue over the which
grains were a part of the traditional five. Another version of the Classic of Rights
replaces rice with hemp. Before the rise of Confucius there was no prior record of the
way that the Chinese cooked their food. Confucius through his teaching and wisdom
laid the groundwork and developed the norms
Questions On Initial Public Offerings
Isaac Smith Sinha: FIN 494 4/23/15 Initial Public Offerings Introduction: Initial
Public Offerings are when any type of security is sold to the public for the first
time within a company s history. The main reason for this is to hope that a liquid
market will grow within this security, where people are trading shares on a daily
basis. The reason that I have decided to do research on IPO s is because it sounds
very simple, yet there are many things that must be done in order to reach a point
to offer an IPO and there are also many ups and downs for companies to weigh to
see if it is worth taking their security to the general public. Throughout this paper I
will introduce to you why company s want to issue IPO s, how they do it, and how
they try to create the initial price per share. Along with those key ideas, I will talk
about why most IPO s are underpriced when they go to market, price changes once
on the market, and lockup agreements. Finally, I am going to give a few examples
of recent IPO s such as Facebook and Sportsman s Warehouse, and other IPO
fallouts. Why do firms want to go public? As noted above an IPO occurs when a
security is sold to the public for the first time. Most firms start out generating equity
privately from a relatively low amount of investors. With this type of funding there is
no liquid market for any of the shareholders to sell their stock within a privately
funded company. When companies decide that they need to raise more capital than

Aging- Living Organisms
Aging is a fundamental truth and an inevitable aspect of every living organism in
the world. There are more than four hundred theories on how and why we age.
None of them stands out as a single winner in explaining everything about aging but
in fact, they are all interconnected and together they explain the possible process of
aging. This assignment attempts to explore the research based avenues which
could possibly help Mickey live significantly longer than Minnie, based on the
assumption that Mickey and Minnie inherit the same genetic programme but
follow different life styles. Different authors and researchers define aging
differently. Aging has been defined by Balducci(2007) as a loss of entropy and
fractality. Loss of entropy implies a progressive reduction in an individual s
functional reserve, whereas loss of fractality implies a progressive reduction in the
ability to coordinate different activity and negotiate the environment . Yet another
definition which would encapsulate the wider meaning of the term aging is aging as
a multifaceted phenomenon associated with decrements in cellular and
physiological functions, increases in the incidence of numerous degenerative
diseases and diminished capacity for responding to stress (Beckman and Ames,
1998). The theories on aging can broadly be classified as programmed and damage
based. While the former argues that the complex process of aging is primarily pre
programmed by genes and not due to any random or
Globe Theater History
The famous Globe Theater had history behind being built, an amazing structure,
and tons of expenses. The Globe Theater s history behind being built was based off
the period of life that it was built in. After the plague ended in the 1800s, there was
a company of actors known as the Lord Chamberlain s Men who needed a theatre
to perform in. This group is where Shakespeare was first known to be part of.
Many theatres were unable to reopen in England after the plague ended. The group
performed in the Cross Keys Inn for a little while while looking for a theatre but
there were restrictions for performing inside of the city s limits. Shakespeare was
the lead playwright for the group by the time the plans for the Globe came about.
This group of actors were not the only actors that were struggling at the time
because the Theatre, which was a main place for plays to be performed was closed
after the lease for the land had expired and the owner refused to renew the lease.
This sent Cuthbert and Richard Burbage, the sons of the original owner of the
Theater who had died, into an outrage. They decided to build a new playhouse
located in Bankside of London (Wright 71 76). The theater became famous for being
the place where Shakespeare did... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reusing the wood saved money for the Burbages but there was still the cost of
renting or owning the land that the theatre was on. The solution to this problem was
having multiple shares of the land. These shares were bought by Lord Chamberlain s
Men like Shakespeare s father and the Burbage brothers, who now owned the theatre.
Actors owning the theatre that they acted in was something that had never happened
before this time. This gave the theatre an advantage since they could save money by
not having to pay rent. They also did not have to worry about being kicked off the
land because this was the permanent home (Morley
A Transition Of Fascination And Fear Essay
Introduction A Transition of Fascination to Fear Historically change has been vital in
the emergence of American higher education. John Thelin (2011) expresses The
single most change in American higher education at the end of the 19th century was
that college going became fashionable and prestigious (p. 156). Prior to WWII, the
public romanticized college going as a means to promote social mobility. Throughout
the evolution of higher education, individuals views transitioned from fascination to
fear. A sense of fear was instilled in students as they became aware colleges were not
exempt from violence. The transition inspired legislation of the Clery Act, which puts
practices into place to create safe communities. Has regulation of the Clery Act
benefited student populations? Do higher education institutions exclude certain
populations by complying with the act? Throughout this paper, I will address these
questions and critically analyze the Clery Acts significance within higher education.
The History and Amendments to the Clery Act Before enactment of the Campus
Security Act, there had been a multitude of particularly violent crimes on college
campuses, which threatened the security higher education institutions assured (101st
United States Congress, 1990). Due to this fact, congress proposed a disclosure of
campus security policy and campus crime. Both public and private institutions that
received federal funds were required to prepare and distribute annual

felt like her life was dwindling away as a wife and caregiver and that s when the

office environment. His boss gives him a new and very important account even
though he was unsure if he can perform his duties like past accounts before. These
dissimilar factors caused a blow up between father and son at dinner one evening.
After the blow up, the son admits to the father that he fears that his father would

A Study On Progeria Syndrome
Progeria is a syndrome that is extremely rare which causes premature aging in
children. I found this disease very interesting because infants appear perfectly
normal at birth but the aging process begins to happen very rapidly as early as 12
months. The young children will start displaying elderly characteristics as the
disease progresses. These children will often die from old age diseases such as heart
attacks, and strokes or related complications. The mayo clinic website indicates that
progeriachildren live an average of 13 years, some can live up to 20 or more. The
oldest living progeria patient recorded was Meg Casey who according to the
Orlando Sentinel newspaper died in Connecticut at 29 years old. Progeria, also

Hutchinson). In 2003, the genetic mutation for HGPS was identified as a single
base mutation in the lamin A (LMNA) gene (Rork, Huang, Gordon, Kleinman,
Kieran, Liang, 2014, p 197). This discovery has led to genetic testing and the
development of drug therapies such as farnesyltransferase inhibitors (para. Rork, et
al., p. 197). These advances allow for the importance of a timely diagnosis. The
altered LMNA protein makes the nuclear membrane unstable and gradually
damages the nucleus, making cells more likely to die prematurely, which leads to
premature aging (para. Progeria, 2014). Most prevalent cause of death is
myocardial infarction or stroke, caused by hardening of the arteries causing a mean
life expectancy of 13 years (para. Progeria, 2016).
Predisposing Factors Progeria is caused by a mutation in the lamin A, LMNA,
gene. This spontaneous mutation is not due to hereditary but most likely occurs by
chance just prior to conception, making this condition extremely rare. In fact,
according to Mayo clinic website researchers believe a single sperm or egg is
affected just before conception (Progeria, 2014). This disease does not seem to
affect any one gender or race more than another. Neither parent is a carrier for the
gene mutation is purely a chance occurance.
Clinical Manifestations
Babies born with progeria typically look normal at birth but then show signs of

patient the best possible care. This will be achieved by following the five key stages

Scene management, primary assessment, History taking, Secondary assessment and
reassessment of the patient. Following this, the patient s presenting complaint would
be managed according to the findings and relevant guidelines.

Furthermore, According to Cretikos et al. (2008), an adult with a respiratory rate of
over 24 breaths per minute in combination with other evidence of physiological
instabilities, can sometimes be an early indicator that a patient may be critically ill.
This patient has oxygen saturation levels of 94%on air. Thus, she is considered to
be within the lower level of being within the normal range. At this moment, it would
not be necessary to give emergency oxygen according to the Guideline for
emergency oxygen use in adult patients (2008). However, due to the saturations
being in the lower range, it is advised that the saturation probe stays on the patient s
finger. This would be as a precautionary measure in case she becomes hypoxic
(Henderson, 2014).
Her heart rate is high at 110 beats per minute (bpm). In medical terms, any person
who has over 100bpm is classed as having Supraventricular tachycardia (NHS
Choices, 2015). Increased heart rate can be caused due to the increased respiratory
effort or overuse of ОІ2 agonist (Henderson, 2015). Increases in breaths per minute
are a sign that there is a reduced amount of oxygen getting to the lungs. This in turn,
will show a reduction of oxygen in the blood. As a result, in order to compensate, the
heart will then work faster in an effort to provide the necessary amount of oxygen to

I have been a firm believer that if one does not understand where you come from
you can have little understanding of where your heading. The first thirty two pages
of the book on Methodism and the Christian Heritage in England gave a background
as to Wesley s foundation that so many authors overlook. The first page summed it up
best in: The long course of English ecclesiastical history met the force of a new
concern for renewal, both individual and institutional. A long tradition of
propositional certainty of faith met the power of a personal experience of faith. An
institution built by and for the establishment met a concern for the souls and bodies

Freeport Summary
Since Freeport started their journey of the mining operations, social and
environmental issues raised. Environmental issues included the effects on glaciers,
overburden storage and the tailing issue with water quality and deposition. Freeport
reactively responded to each of those issues. Although there is a huge gap between
when Freeport first signed the contract in 1966 until they developed the
environmental management in 1991, Freeport allocated huge budget, time and effort
to treat and mitigate these issues. However, such an expert company in mining it
negatively viewed that their response was reactive, instead they are acquired to
predict the consequential results on the environmentfrom mining by proactively
dealing with such issues.
Different Kinds Of Polymers And Polymers
A polymer is a large molecule that is made from many small repeating chemicals
called monomers. In the Greek language, polymer literally means many parts.
Polymers are being used more and more in medical devices, such as drug delivery,
screws, plates, fixation pins, suture anchors and many other applications. Some of
the most useful polymers for medical uses are poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and
poly(glycolic acid) (PGA). They are useful in medicine because of the fact that they
can degrade within the body to lesser components that will cause very minimal
negative effects. Scientists have found many different ways to control the
degradation of these two polymers. Combining two or more different kinds of
monomers during polymerformation is called copolymerization. Changing the
amount of different kinds of monomers during copolymerization of either poly(lactic
co glycolic) (PLGA) or PLA can change degradation characteristics. [2] For example,
combining lactic acid and glycolic acid to make PLGA will degrade quicker. There
are also stereo copolymers, such as L lactic acid, and D lactic acid which are the
same chemical, but are mirror images of each other (figure 1). These can be
combined to also lower the degradation times of PLA or PGLA. Figure 1. Difference
between L and D lactic acids (Gupta et al, 2007)
Synthesis of PLA and PLGA Synthesis of PLA is started through the fermentation
of bacteria. There are several types of bacteria that produce L , D lactic acid or a

How The Virginia State Statue Of Anti Miscegenation And...
For years there have been forbidden love and marriage in the history of the United
States, I decided to write a reflection on my thoughts views, fact findings and
information regarding biracial marriages and segregation laws that were
discriminatory in history. I read the short story about the Loving family and their
pursuit to the Supreme Court in 1967, I thought of my own family history and
realized that my paternal grandparents would ve been prosecuted had they lived in
Virginia or any other state that prohibited bi racial marriages in the 1900s.
My grandfather was an Irish man and my grandmother was a Native American Crow
Creek Dakotah/HoChunk woman, luckily they weren t victims of the injustice that
has happened, doesn t mean they didn t fight their own battles against prejudice and
discrimination but they weren t convicted of any crimes for their decision to marry
and have a bi racial a.k.a, half breed family.
I chose to write about how the Virginia State Statue of Anti Miscegenationin 1924
directly violated the Fourteenth Amendment. The Fourteenth Amendment is such a
powerful part of the Constitution because it protects minority rights and recognizes
us as true citizens of the United States.
My ancestors, like many others have been exposed to disease purposely, tortured,
sexually abused, physically beaten, mutilated, raped, sexually abused/tortured,
starved, and forced to give up their way of life (language, culture and beliefs)before
being forced to

Health Plan Recap My health plan was constructed while keeping my own specific
health profile in mind. As a mother of six, and one who developed on autoimmune
disease, Dermatomyositis, seven years ago, I confront problems which others
developing their own plans may not. The disease, which was successfully treated,
nonetheless left a residue of chronic pain and fatigue, as well as depression,
symptoms which were partnered with Primary Biliary Cholangitis, another
autoimmune disease I was diagnosed with in 2015. This disease has resulted in
additional pain. During the last few years of struggling with these illnesses, I have
added some extra weight. Despite the above difficulties, I plan to exercise, eat
better and reduce both my weight and my Body Mass Index. Not taking action is
not an option, as a Life Check Assessment test I took scored me at just 5.7 out of
10, and described my health as one that was as at risk for diabetes and other
problems. All research indicates that a clean, healthy, low sodium diet, and regular
exercise, would be a major boost to my health, and might even help in the battle
against the autoimmune issues I am currently engaged with. Research
Biomechanics Of The Tympanic Membrane

BIOE 154: Introduction to Biomechanics
Professor Norman
Biomechanics of the Tympanic Membrane
Background: Over the past years, bioengineers have applied different methods for
modelling the human ear. The human ear is an intricate biomechanical system with
its primary function to sound perception and reception. The ear is divided into 3 main
components, each with its own unique functions: the outer ear (pinna), the middle
ear, and the inner ear. The outer ear, or the pinna, consists of the auricle, the skin
covered cartilage of the ear visible on the outside of the head, as well as the
opening to the auditory canal. The middle ear refers the air filled hollow space
(tympanic cavity) behind the eardrum or tympanic membrane. The tympanic
membrane is a thin, cone shaped membrane that separates the outer ear from the
middle ear (Figure 1a). The tympanic membrane is made up of two main parts: the
fragile pars flaccida (upper region) and robust the pars tersa (lower region). The pars
tersa, composed of three layers: skin, fibrous tissue, and mucus, makes up the
majority of the tympanic membrane. The pars flaccida is often associated with
eustachian tube malfunctions and choleostomas, whereas the pars tersa is associated
with perforations. There are 3 bones, the malleus, incus, and stapes, in the middle ear
(Figure 1b) that vibrate when exposed to the vibrations of the sound waves. The
malleus is attached to the medial surface of the tympanic

Cause And Effect Essay On Poverty

  • 1. Cause And Effect Essay On Poverty Crafting an essay on the intricate theme of poverty, exploring its causes and effects, is undeniably a challenging endeavor. This subject demands a nuanced understanding of economic, social, and political dynamics, making it imperative to navigate a complex web of interconnected factors. Delving into the roots of poverty requires meticulous research to unveil the multifaceted reasons that contribute to its existence. The initial hurdle lies in sifting through an extensive pool of literature to gather relevant data and scholarly perspectives. The abundance of information can be overwhelming, necessitating a discerning eye to distinguish between credible sources and biased opinions. Analyzing statistical data, historical contexts, and sociological theories further compounds the difficulty, as it requires a comprehensive grasp of diverse disciplines. The challenge extends to the critical task of organizing these myriad insights into a coherent and persuasive argument. Sequencing ideas to establish a logical flow while maintaining the essay's cohesion is no small feat. Balancing the exploration of causes and effects demands a delicate equilibrium, ensuring that neither aspect overshadows the other, and the narrative remains well- rounded. Moreover, conveying the gravity of the issue while fostering empathy without resorting to oversimplification is a tightrope walk. It requires a nuanced approach to articulate the interconnectedness of poverty with systemic issues and individual circumstances. Striking a balance between depth and accessibility is crucial to engage readers without sacrificing the complexity inherent in the subject. In conclusion, composing a cause and effect essay on poverty is a formidable task that demands a combination of research acumen, analytical prowess, and effective communication skills. Tackling such a multifaceted topic necessitates a commitment to thorough exploration and a dedication to presenting a well-rounded perspective. • 2. Plagues In The Book Of Exodus The book of exodus speaks about slavery of the Israelite by the Egyptians and how God uses Moses to release them out of captivity. The Israelite was in slavery for a number of years before they were release. Pharaoh had ordered all the male babies of the isrealites to be killed. Pharoah was scared of the strength that these babies will have when they become men. God send a number of plagues on the Egyptians before he finally released them. The most interesting part of the plagues on the Egyptians was that God harden Pharaohs heart through the plagues that his people faced. Pharoah was willing to let the people of Isreal go but God harden his heart. Why? With all the plagues that the Egyptians faced Pharoah was willing to let the isrealites
  • 3. The Creation Of Adam s Ceiling Essay According to arthistory.about.com The Creation of Adam is a fresco painting by Michelangelo, which is on the Sistine Chapel s ceiling. The Sistine Chapel forms part of the large Papal Chapel built within the Vatican by Pope Sixtus IV. Pope Julius II asked Michelangelo to paint the Sistine Chapel s ceiling in 1508. Michelangelo painted the ceiling from July 1508 to October 1512. The creation of Adam was painted in 1511. In fact, The Creation of Adam took less than three weeks to complete. In the Sistine Chapels this painting is located next to the Creation of Eve, which is the panel at the center of the room, and the Congregation of the Waters, which is closer to the altar. The ceiling measures about 141 feet by 43 feet. Michelangelo painted over 5,000 square feet of frescoes. (arthistory.about.com) According to www.britannica.com/art/fresco painting fresco painting is a method of painting water based pigments on freshly applied plaster, usually on wall surfaces. The colors are made by grinding dry powder pigments in pure water. Then, the paint dries and sets with the plaster to become a permanent part of the wall. Fresco painting is ideal for making murals because it lends itself to a monumental style, is durable, and has a matte surface. This contributed to why Michelangelo chose to paint using this style. (www.britannica.com/art/fresco painting) I selected The Creation of Adam for this paper because of its popularity and I have seen it in many places. In church, my

Through its carefully incorporated narration, Ram appeals to the courage of women through aural and visual techniques and utilizes specific examples of females, who overcame obstacles in their profession, to provide further inspiration and create a valuable rhetorical commercial. Ram s advertisement immediately begins by utilizing logos and pathos to embolden women to fight against stereotypes. First, the commercial s narration uses a series of repetitive rhetorical questions to inspire the audacious emotions of the audience. Ram repeats have you ever thought multiple times to capture the female viewer s attention. This technique establishes an understanding and inviting tone that prepares the viewer for Ram s overarching message. Next, allowing the viewer to ponder these rhetorical questions, Ram briefly pauses the narration. Following this pause, Ram articulates their message: You can break a stereotype and throw it into a whole nother gear. Because

The part in which this is portrayed in the story is when, the woman locks her self up in the room that used to be used by the house keeper they had hired when her sorrow was still in its infancy. Until consumers become less concerned about the quality of their location s tap water, the bottled water industry will remain. The large companies are also the companies that offer the substitute products. Soda, coffee, any drinkable liquids are more than likely sold by pepsi or coca cola. This force is not only weak for this reason but also because it appears that consumers are on a trend to remain health conscious and therefore will steer away from soda. Adam Corolla Usc Lecture Essay Adam Carolla Lecture Paper One of the basic tenets of life is that greater opportunities will appear to individuals that actively pursue and know how to recognize them. Since the majority of us do not have the luxury of being born into wealth or power, the choices that we make ultimately shape our successes in life. Adam Carolla begins by using examples to highlight the concepts of consistency and residual income. He explains that it is easier and more useful to understand how to sell something and continue selling it again and again as opposed to figuring out how to simply make a large amount of money. Conversely, Adam Carolla cites an example of negative reinforcement being used as a form of motivation. He refers to his time working as a carpet cleaner out of high school and the pain he felt from working a horrible job with people he did not like. Carolla explains that by being miserable at a bad job, he learned he did not want to continue working at a career that he did not enjoy. Using pain as a motivating factor, this realization forced Adam to forge a better career path for himself. Another important aspect of creating opportunities revolves around the concept of doing a job well regardless of whether you enjoy it or not. In reality, the dream job is not typically the first job, the second job, or even the third. However, this does not count as an excuse for not performing to the highest capacity at any level of work. Adam expands, saying that it is crucial to get in the habit of doing things well and not judge a job because you it feel it might be below you. Doing a job properly and to the fullest ability demonstrates attention to the detail and is a key indicator of overall job performance to employers. Experience and knowledge are also key elements that an individual can use to take advantage of opportunities. In order to obtain chance for advancement, it is imperative to commit the time to understand all the aspects of a job and acquire the knowledge necessary for when the opportunity does come. In

John Ford used the characters Ethan and the US Cavarly officers to embody the ideas of society in the 1950 s. Later in the film, the prejudice against Native Americans reduces in Ethan s character. At the time of this scene, he hates Native Americans with no exceptions. However near the end of the movie he becomes more tolerant of Native Americans, for example when he brought Debby home safely instead of killing her. As killing Debby would ve put Ethan into bad light, the decision of him not killing her brings an anti racism message, which was something that John Ford believed in. Changing the privacy policy and term of use without informing the 12 million daily users was way beyond an ethical thing to do. Before tackling on these theories, we must understand that Ethicsare the moral principles where we base our assessment for what is right or wrong (Birt et. al. 2014) and how such action may affect others (Zhu, May Avolio, 2010). The philosophy revolves on two essential idea that a.) it is a duty to treat humanity with fairness, dignity and respect (Hill, 2007); and b.) it is the motive of the person that makes the action right or wrong (Birt et. al., 2014) . Kantianism is espoused by Immanuel Kant which simply emphasized that people should do what is right because it is one s duty to deal with humanity as you handle yourself. Unlike utilitarianism which is concerned with the outcomes of the action, Kant emphasized that one need not necessarily think about the consequence of the action as long as the act itself is morally good (Shaw, Barry, Issa Catley, 2013). He further described that an action can be interpreted as morally right if it is made out of good will and respect and not taking advantage of the situation (Birt et. al., 2010). In an organization, people make decisions. The person who makes a decision or action should be prudent enough to identify that such action is universally right. And so he is acting wilfully out of good intentions. As with Instagram, the information for the change was not intended for the public to have a choice and the change was made when 12 million users are already using their applications apps . This may be understood that Instagram did not respect their users because they were not given the opportunity to make a choice as to whether they will agree or not on sharing their personal information (profile and photos). The purpose of the decision was for the good of Instagram and the users in the company s perspective. • 23. Becker Muscular Dystrophy (BMD) Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD) is an x linked recessive inherited disorder characterized by slowly progressive muscle weakness of legs and pelvis. This disease primarily effects voluntary muscles such as muscles of the hips, pelvic area, thighs and shoulders. Since this disease effects all your muscles they d weaken your heartas well. Most people with BMD often develop cardiomyopathy ( disease in the heart muscle). The heart muscle deteriorates like the skeletal and smooth muscles which would make it difficult to walk, people with BMD might waddle a little they may walk on their toes or stick out their abdomen. Symptoms for BMD usually begins with the hips and the pelvic area muscles start to weaken which causes people who suffer from this

Eventually, his fear led to him committing suicide while his tribe lost its religion and culture and was overrun by Christians. Okonkwo s hubris derived from his father, Unoka. Unoka was lazy, buried in debt, womanly , and irresponsible. Okonkwowas very ashamed because of his father s reputation. To not be the man his father was, Okonkwo strived to be the best of what he could be. The white men influenced the majority of the young men into following their new faith by alluding to a life without an attachment to ancient traditions. Tribe members who were outcasts gravitated to the missionaries since they were not able to be one of the important members of the Igbo community. Specifically, a parallel is Okonkwo s harshness driving Nowye to the new religion. Okonkwo was a stubborn father, who only wanted the best life for his son. But, Nwoye never knew his father s feelings and perceived his father as a hateful man. Also, Nowye wasn t like Okonkwo s other children because he was inactive in the manual labor. So, he followed the faith of the missionaries because there were others just as lonely and confused about where they would fit in there and he in return would be accepted. He then converted to Christianity. As a result, he became a successful man, but not the way his father imagined. Okonkwo was effected in the sense he was baffled by his own son s decision to mimic the white man even though he raised him to be a man of the Igbo clan. He focused all his energy in reassuring his son wouldn t replicate his own father that he lost control of his son. Okonkwo s suicide parallels the Igbo s morals and traditions falling apart. As the village was losing members to the white men, he was losing his own son. The impact of the Igbo falling

China s GDP in 1952 was a mere 67.9 billion USD which has grown to 10.87 trillion USD today. This GDP growth is mirrored and positively correlated with China s tremendous population growth. Chinahas experienced a population growth from under 552 million in 1950 to nearly 1.4 billion today. This tremendous growth has brought about an increased dependence on the advanced production of food in China. In order to feed this growing population farmers have been forced to effectively grow their crops and increase their cultivation per square meter for their farm land. In October of 2005 the preserved remains of ancient noodles were discovered at the Lajia archaeological site which sits on the second terrace of the Yellow River near Qinghai. These noodles where a revolutionary find allowing anthropologists to further research ancient Chinese food. The noodles were made from foxtail and broom corn millet and were preserved for thousands of years in the rock. From these findings it is clear that grain based noodles have been a staple part of the Chinese diet for thousands of years. During the time frame from around 2070 BC to 221 BC five chief grains made up the staple diet of the Chinese. This time period included the Xia, Shang, Zhou dynasties and the Warring States Periodis commonly referred to as the period of five grains. Anthropologists and historians have found and studied many different records that argue over which grains were in fact a part of the five grains. According the Classic of Rites which was comprised by Confucius and his followers during the 6th century the five staple grains included soybeans, rice, proso millet, foxtail millet, and wheat. Scholars argue over the which grains were a part of the traditional five. Another version of the Classic of Rights replaces rice with hemp. Before the rise of Confucius there was no prior record of the way that the Chinese cooked their food. Confucius through his teaching and wisdom laid the groundwork and developed the norms
  • 26. Questions On Initial Public Offerings Isaac Smith Sinha: FIN 494 4/23/15 Initial Public Offerings Introduction: Initial Public Offerings are when any type of security is sold to the public for the first time within a company s history. The main reason for this is to hope that a liquid market will grow within this security, where people are trading shares on a daily basis. The reason that I have decided to do research on IPO s is because it sounds very simple, yet there are many things that must be done in order to reach a point to offer an IPO and there are also many ups and downs for companies to weigh to see if it is worth taking their security to the general public. Throughout this paper I will introduce to you why company s want to issue IPO s, how they do it, and how they try to create the initial price per share. Along with those key ideas, I will talk about why most IPO s are underpriced when they go to market, price changes once on the market, and lockup agreements. Finally, I am going to give a few examples of recent IPO s such as Facebook and Sportsman s Warehouse, and other IPO fallouts. Why do firms want to go public? As noted above an IPO occurs when a security is sold to the public for the first time. Most firms start out generating equity privately from a relatively low amount of investors. With this type of funding there is no liquid market for any of the shareholders to sell their stock within a privately funded company. When companies decide that they need to raise more capital than what

  • 28. Aging- Living Organisms Aging is a fundamental truth and an inevitable aspect of every living organism in the world. There are more than four hundred theories on how and why we age. None of them stands out as a single winner in explaining everything about aging but in fact, they are all interconnected and together they explain the possible process of aging. This assignment attempts to explore the research based avenues which could possibly help Mickey live significantly longer than Minnie, based on the assumption that Mickey and Minnie inherit the same genetic programme but follow different life styles. Different authors and researchers define aging differently. Aging has been defined by Balducci(2007) as a loss of entropy and fractality. Loss of entropy implies a progressive reduction in an individual s functional reserve, whereas loss of fractality implies a progressive reduction in the ability to coordinate different activity and negotiate the environment . Yet another definition which would encapsulate the wider meaning of the term aging is aging as a multifaceted phenomenon associated with decrements in cellular and physiological functions, increases in the incidence of numerous degenerative diseases and diminished capacity for responding to stress (Beckman and Ames, 1998). The theories on aging can broadly be classified as programmed and damage based. While the former argues that the complex process of aging is primarily pre programmed by genes and not due to any random or

The Globe Theater s history behind being built was based off the period of life that it was built in. After the plague ended in the 1800s, there was a company of actors known as the Lord Chamberlain s Men who needed a theatre to perform in. This group is where Shakespeare was first known to be part of. Many theatres were unable to reopen in England after the plague ended. The group performed in the Cross Keys Inn for a little while while looking for a theatre but there were restrictions for performing inside of the city s limits. Shakespeare was the lead playwright for the group by the time the plans for the Globe came about. This group of actors were not the only actors that were struggling at the time because the Theatre, which was a main place for plays to be performed was closed after the lease for the land had expired and the owner refused to renew the lease. This sent Cuthbert and Richard Burbage, the sons of the original owner of the Theater who had died, into an outrage. They decided to build a new playhouse located in Bankside of London (Wright 71 76). The theater became famous for being the place where Shakespeare did... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reusing the wood saved money for the Burbages but there was still the cost of renting or owning the land that the theatre was on. The solution to this problem was having multiple shares of the land. These shares were bought by Lord Chamberlain s Men like Shakespeare s father and the Burbage brothers, who now owned the theatre. Actors owning the theatre that they acted in was something that had never happened before this time. This gave the theatre an advantage since they could save money by not having to pay rent. They also did not have to worry about being kicked off the land because this was the permanent home (Morley
  • 30. A Transition Of Fascination And Fear Essay Introduction A Transition of Fascination to Fear Historically change has been vital in the emergence of American higher education. John Thelin (2011) expresses The single most change in American higher education at the end of the 19th century was that college going became fashionable and prestigious (p. 156). Prior to WWII, the public romanticized college going as a means to promote social mobility. Throughout the evolution of higher education, individuals views transitioned from fascination to fear. A sense of fear was instilled in students as they became aware colleges were not exempt from violence. The transition inspired legislation of the Clery Act, which puts practices into place to create safe communities. Has regulation of the Clery Act benefited student populations? Do higher education institutions exclude certain populations by complying with the act? Throughout this paper, I will address these questions and critically analyze the Clery Acts significance within higher education. The History and Amendments to the Clery Act Before enactment of the Campus Security Act, there had been a multitude of particularly violent crimes on college campuses, which threatened the security higher education institutions assured (101st United States Congress, 1990). Due to this fact, congress proposed a disclosure of campus security policy and campus crime. Both public and private institutions that received federal funds were required to prepare and distribute annual

I found this disease very interesting because infants appear perfectly normal at birth but the aging process begins to happen very rapidly as early as 12 months. The young children will start displaying elderly characteristics as the disease progresses. These children will often die from old age diseases such as heart attacks, and strokes or related complications. The mayo clinic website indicates that progeriachildren live an average of 13 years, some can live up to 20 or more. In 2003, the genetic mutation for HGPS was identified as a single base mutation in the lamin A (LMNA) gene (Rork, Huang, Gordon, Kleinman, Kieran, Liang, 2014, p 197). This discovery has led to genetic testing and the development of drug therapies such as farnesyltransferase inhibitors (para. Rork, et al., p. 197). These advances allow for the importance of a timely diagnosis. The altered LMNA protein makes the nuclear membrane unstable and gradually damages the nucleus, making cells more likely to die prematurely, which leads to premature aging (para. Progeria, 2014). Most prevalent cause of death is myocardial infarction or stroke, caused by hardening of the arteries causing a mean life expectancy of 13 years (para. Progeria, 2016). Predisposing Factors Progeria is caused by a mutation in the lamin A, LMNA, gene. This spontaneous mutation is not due to hereditary but most likely occurs by chance just prior to conception, making this condition extremely rare. In fact, according to Mayo clinic website researchers believe a single sperm or egg is affected just before conception (Progeria, 2014). This disease does not seem to affect any one gender or race more than another. Neither parent is a carrier for the gene mutation is purely a chance occurance. Furthermore, According to Cretikos et al. (2008), an adult with a respiratory rate of over 24 breaths per minute in combination with other evidence of physiological instabilities, can sometimes be an early indicator that a patient may be critically ill. This patient has oxygen saturation levels of 94%on air. Thus, she is considered to be within the lower level of being within the normal range. At this moment, it would not be necessary to give emergency oxygen according to the Guideline for emergency oxygen use in adult patients (2008). However, due to the saturations being in the lower range, it is advised that the saturation probe stays on the patient s finger. This would be as a precautionary measure in case she becomes hypoxic (Henderson, 2014). Her heart rate is high at 110 beats per minute (bpm). In medical terms, any person who has over 100bpm is classed as having Supraventricular tachycardia (NHS Choices, 2015). Increased heart rate can be caused due to the increased respiratory effort or overuse of ОІ2 agonist (Henderson, 2015). Increases in breaths per minute are a sign that there is a reduced amount of oxygen getting to the lungs. This in turn, will show a reduction of oxygen in the blood. As a result, in order to compensate, the heart will then work faster in an effort to provide the necessary amount of oxygen to the rest

  • 39. Different Kinds Of Polymers And Polymers A polymer is a large molecule that is made from many small repeating chemicals called monomers. In the Greek language, polymer literally means many parts. Polymers are being used more and more in medical devices, such as drug delivery, screws, plates, fixation pins, suture anchors and many other applications. Some of the most useful polymers for medical uses are poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(glycolic acid) (PGA). They are useful in medicine because of the fact that they can degrade within the body to lesser components that will cause very minimal negative effects. Scientists have found many different ways to control the degradation of these two polymers. Combining two or more different kinds of monomers during polymerformation is called copolymerization. Changing the amount of different kinds of monomers during copolymerization of either poly(lactic co glycolic) (PLGA) or PLA can change degradation characteristics. [2] For example, combining lactic acid and glycolic acid to make PLGA will degrade quicker. There are also stereo copolymers, such as L lactic acid, and D lactic acid which are the same chemical, but are mirror images of each other (figure 1). These can be combined to also lower the degradation times of PLA or PGLA. Figure 1. Biomechanics Of The Tympanic Membrane Darisha Jhutty April 27, 2015 BIOE 154: Introduction to Biomechanics Professor Norman Biomechanics of the Tympanic Membrane Background: Over the past years, bioengineers have applied different methods for modelling the human ear. The human ear is an intricate biomechanical system with its primary function to sound perception and reception. The ear is divided into 3 main components, each with its own unique functions: the outer ear (pinna), the middle ear, and the inner ear. The outer ear, or the pinna, consists of the auricle, the skin covered cartilage of the ear visible on the outside of the head, as well as the opening to the auditory canal. The middle ear refers the air filled hollow space (tympanic cavity) behind the eardrum or tympanic membrane. The tympanic membrane is a thin, cone shaped membrane that separates the outer ear from the middle ear (Figure 1a). The tympanic membrane is made up of two main parts: the fragile pars flaccida (upper region) and robust the pars tersa (lower region). The pars tersa, composed of three layers: skin, fibrous tissue, and mucus, makes up the majority of the tympanic membrane. The pars flaccida is often associated with eustachian tube malfunctions and choleostomas, whereas the pars tersa is associated with perforations. There are 3 bones, the malleus, incus, and stapes, in the middle ear (Figure 1b) that vibrate when exposed to the vibrations of the sound waves. The malleus is attached to the medial surface of the tympanic
