This I Believe Essay Examples
Crafting an essay on the topic of "This I Believe Essay Examples" poses its own set of
challenges. The intricacies lie not only in expressing personal beliefs but also in weaving them
into a coherent narrative that resonates with the audience. The task demands introspection, a
deep exploration of one's values, and the ability to articulate these convictions effectively.
One of the challenges is striking the right balance between self-disclosure and relatability. The
essay must reveal enough about the author's beliefs to make a meaningful connection with the
reader, yet not overshare to the point of becoming self-indulgent. Striking this delicate
equilibrium requires careful consideration of language, tone, and pacing.
Another hurdle is the need for authenticity. Expressing one's beliefs genuinely is essential for the
essay's success. However, the vulnerability that comes with exposing personal convictions can be
intimidating. Writers must navigate the fine line between sincerity and avoiding oversharing, all
while ensuring the essay remains compelling and engaging.
Structuring the essay poses its own challenges. Balancing the personal narrative with broader
implications can be tricky. The essay should not only delve into individual beliefs but also
connect them to universal themes, making the piece relevant and thought-provoking for a
diverse audience.
Furthermore, the challenge lies in finding a unique angle or perspective. Given the topic's broad
nature, avoiding clichГ©s and offering fresh insights is crucial. Writers must strive to present
their beliefs in a way that stands out, prompting readers to reflect on their own convictions.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "This I Believe Essay Examples" is a complex task that
requires a delicate blend of introspection, authenticity, and skillful storytelling. Navigating the
fine line between personal disclosure and broader relevance, all while maintaining a unique and
engaging perspective, adds layers of difficulty to the process. However, with careful thought and
creativity, writers can overcome these challenges and produce a compelling essay that resonates
with readers.

The Ku Klux Klan ( Kkk )
The Ku Klux Klan (KKK) came into being in 1865 and was widespread in the
southern states of the USA. It was founded by former Confederate veterans in
Pulaski, Tennessee. It was a movement, formed after the civil war of America, to
oppress the Republican Party s policies of reconstruction. Few years after its
formation, the movement engaged in war, fear and hatred in the war ravaged south.
The group s activities during this period have had adverse effects on the American
society that still haunt them to date (Southern Poverty Law Centre, 2011).
Racial supremacy was the driving force of the group s initial driving force. Ku Klux
Klan objectives aimed at re establishing white authority throughout America. The
southern states were characterized by lawlessness and violence in an attempt to
intimidate the black community and sympathizers of the Republican s policies of
slavery abolishment. The group has been powerful and very evident twice in the
American history (Southern Poverty Law Centre, 2011).
In this paper, we will concentrate on the movement s activities and defining
moments from 1865 to 1900. The above is the first period of the clan widely known
as the first Klan. The paper looks at how the group contributed to the reestablishment
of white supremacy in the social, political and economic life of the South America.
The goals and tactics of the clan led to bloody events that shaped the socio economic
and political lifestyle of both white and black Southern Americans.

Foolproof Tactics
Wow, that assembly was extremely interesting. I felt so inspired by their sleep
inducing speeches and extremely confident stutter. The people I m talking about,
is of course the idiots who think they can win the nomination for Board of
trustees(B.O.T). School politics are so easy to manipulate, for even the stupidest
people. Here are some foolproof tactics to win at school politics. Firstly and
probably most importantly, before I say this I must stress not to skip this step, is to
volunteer for the position. This might seem extremely for the average reader but it
is possible and armed with these foolproof tactics there is no way you could ever lose.

False promises are key to getting your audience to vote for you. Claim you want do
the best for everyone but in reality it is all about you winning. One great example
is to attempt to promise the ability for people to leave school during lunch. This is
excellent because it is what the people want but obviously there is no way the
republicans will let anything through the senate. The hype train is important for
people to win you would want the to be derailed. This can be done by focusing
upon the young and naive as the will are likely to believe whatever you say so add
a few hype men to their ranks and easy votes are gained. The plan would influence
them to want to vote for as it seems popular. Quantity not quality of vote matters. On
that note it is important you stand fresh and trendy, try something like this, check
my lit instagram for some fire photos or damn (somebody s name, don t actually say
somebody s name use the name of the person ur trying to target) back at it again with
the dank memes. This makes seem like an ordinary peasent but in reality they are
nothing to you.
Looking through these ideas I have seen a clear victor this year with his false
promises, riding the hype train with his fancy slogans and his fake
recommendations. For his trickery and underhand tactics he deserves an applause for
his ideas, I can still hear yes for
Those Winter Sundays Analysis
In Robert Hayden s poem Those Winter Sundays tells of an individual reminiscing
about their father and the sacrifices he made to provide for them. In the poem, the
father was not appreciated for his contribution but the narrator seems to now
acknowledge the hard work of the father. As the poem progresses the tone of the
narrator is one of regret and remorse. The relationship of the parent and child is
often one of misunderstanding and conflict until the experiences life more and come
in grasps of the parent s intention. So, the relation between a parent and child
evolves as the child emerges to adulthood. I was able to connect to this poem as I
experienced mutual feelings for my own father. Similar to the narrator in the writing,

Hayden uses the juxtaposition of the cold of the outdoors to the warmth of the home
that the writer creates to present the father s love for his child. Although the father
did not demonstrate conventional love for the narrator but proved his unconditional
love by putting a roof over the child s head. The winter night is metaphor for the
absence of love. Though the child did not comprehend the love the father had for
them, they reminiscence upon how the would be left in the cold if the father did not
meet the provisions. So the father s love was not evident in displays of affection but
meeting the needs of the child. Most fathers demonstrate their love in what seems
like a harsh manner, working most of the time and not spending quality time to fulfil
their first role as a father the provider. Nevertheless as a transformation take place the
role of the father or parent become replicated in the adult child. Through
understanding the contribution of the caregiver; once empathic response to the
parent increases. Hence it closes the gap of differences that exist within the child

After the discovery of red ants at Port Botany, inspectors are asking for
homeowners to be vigilant for signs this insect has appeared on their property.
While these are a problem in some parts of America, this type of ant is rarely found
in Australia and the government would like to keep it that way. To help you know
what you are looking for while you are outside doing some winter garden

Dysfunction In American Beauty
American Beauty What is it saying about the pursuit of the American Dream?
The portrayal of an American family as shown in the movie, American Beauty, is one
of dysfunction. In fact, the homosexual couple is the only family that seem to display
somewhat normal behavior. As a non traditional family, the homosexual couple
appear connected, loving, and very happy. Most importantly, they demonstrate great
respect for each other, something the heterosexual families do not. This non
traditional family is seen in small doses throughout the movie. However, the families
that are prominently displayed for the majority of the movie are The Burnhams and
The Fitts; the so called normal family unit. What is striking about this display of
normalcy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Burnhams strive to follow a modern version of the American Dream . The
father, Lester, has taken a passive role in the family and is viewed as feeble by both
his daughter and wife. His wife, Carolyn, sees herself as a strong and independent
working woman. Her own insecurities become more obvious throughout the film. She
must have a beautiful single family home in a suburban neighborhood, a successful
career, and a display of perfectly groomed roses that line her fence. Carolyn has
insecurities that run deep. She often catches herself in a weak, emotional moment
where she feels inferior. A quote from Carolyn, My company sells an image. It s
part of my job to live that image. I interpreted this quote as how she views life on a
global scale. This is her American Dream and her own happiness. Janey Burnham,
Lester and Carolyn s daughter, is shown at the beginning of the film viewing
articles online for breast augmentation. This reveals her low self esteem and desire
towards a perfect image. Janey feels as though she doesn t live up to the standards
of what a young teenager should look like. Throughout the film, the viewer sees
Janey redefine her idea of perfection and her growing sense of

An Overview of Postmodernism Essay
The political climate at the beginning of the 1940 s and the changes taking place
all around the world drastically influenced the face of contemporary society. The
invasion of Poland by Germany on 1st of September 1939 was the first stone
thrown in the face of freedom of expression and liberty out of the many that
followed for the next decades. The dawn of the Second World War was one of the
premises that forced many European artists, pioneers par excellence in their field,
through their French or German inherited status, to immigrate across the ocean. Due
to the exile, the art centre also moved overseas, from Paris to New York, offering a
new opportunity for American art to be the initiator in what was generally accepted
as the new... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This description is trying to clearly position postmodernism in a specific time frame
and outline its main characteristics. However, when consulting the Macmillan
Dictionary (2010) the description offered is significantly less conclusive:
ideas, attitudes, or styles of art, literature, or thinking that have developed after
modernism, often as a reaction against
The main accent is set on the chronological aspect of postmodernism and its logical
and historical flow offering the reader not enough information to identify a clear
period or any particular feature. Only by comparing the two definitions, a very
small part of the available explanations on the subject, and at the same time reading
them together one can identify one of the main components of the movement:
diversity in all its aspects. The difference in these definitions is not just a simple
coincidence and should be taken as a figure of speech for the description of the
entire period. During this time critics and writers, artists and architects etc. have tried
to find a proper explanation for the changes they were being part of, concretised in
what became known as Postmodernism.
During the 1960s attacks started appearing against the elitism shown by modernism.
One of the first voices pointing at modernism s faults was the poet Karl Shapiro ,
who in 1959 in an article for The Times Book
Delian League Research Paper
The Delian League was an alliance of eastern Greek city states formed in 478
BCE, to protect the rights and interests of those states against additional attacks
from the Persians, following the battles of Marathon, Salamis, and Plataea
(Cartlwright, 2016). How successful that alliance was is a matter of perspective
and timeline. Image of the Delian League ((Gill, 2017). There is an old Latin
phrase attributed to the Roman general Vegetius, if you want peace, prepare for
war (Gill, 2017b), which has commonly been abbreviated to Peace through strength
. Military Success From that perspective, the Delian League was extremely
effective in dealing with, and deterring outside threats (for a time at least). As a
direct result of their combined strength, the Delians defeated the Persia in a series
of decisive battles, ending with the battle of Eurymedon in 466. According to
Samons (1998), Kimon, Kallias and Peace with Persia, these victories lead directly
to a peace treaty being signed by the Persian Emperor Xerxes prior to his death in
465 BCE (p. 129). This was the Golden Age of Athens, which continued until the
beginning of the Peloponnesian wars. Summary and Observations I think the Delian

The Grecian city states were a fractious lot with self serving alliances shifting daily.
This prevented any war from engulfing all nations. Only when faced with an external
threat would they combine their forces. In 446/5 that ended with a treaty splitting
Greece into 2 hegemonies (Gill, 2017a). With the contentious nature of the city states
(particularly Athens), war was inevitable, and when it happened, Greece was
devastated, and left it ripe for external invasion. Ironically, such external threats were
the original justification for the formation of the Delian League. In this regard it was

Jewish American Literatue
Jewish American Literature Duty Matters Throughout the course of the semester,
the concept of duty has been a major theme in various novels, such as in Anzia
Yezierska s Bread Givers, Cynthia Ozick s The Shawl, and Saul Bellow s Herzog.
Although Yezierska, Ozick, and Bellow offer different circumstances, they all
suggest a sense of responsibility from parent to child. I will show how the
relationship between Sara and her father in Bread Givers differ from Rosa and the
living incarnation of her daughter in The Shawl and Herzog s fight to gain
custody of his daughter June in Herzog. They are all significant in understanding
the parent child commitment in Jewish American families. According to these
three novels, parents are obligated to their children parents must give emotional
support as well as security to them. According to Norman Soloman s Judaism: A
Very Short Introduction, the idea of duty is an act when one is obligated to carry
out as well as a feeling of responsibility. In Judaism, a man s duties are defined by
God s commandments. One must decree to the Torah, the first five books of the
Bible as a guide to holiness. The complete theological idea of a man s role in life is
comprised within the notion of mitzvah, which means duty . The term ḥovah,
denotating obligation or duty is also used the same as mitzvah. To complete a divine
commandment is to satisfy one s duty. In these three novels, duty is the chief reason
for the actions of these characters.
God The Son, The Incarnation And Attributes Of God
When exploring the concept of God the Son , the incarnation and attributes of God as
seen in Christ enter the picture. In order for human sin to be covered, a human
sacrifice is all that could meet the requirement ordained by God, yet, they had to be
sinless. Only the incarnate God could fulfill this role, exhibiting qualities of God
Himself, such as selflessness, unconditional love, and purity. Another core trait was
humbleness, although Jesusheld the highest status in all the world, which shone
brightly in His ministry, as He also served the children of God. Paul captured the
essence of Jesus as God and the reality of the incarnation in these verses, let this
mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who being in the form of God...made
Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the
likeness of men (Philippians 2:5 7, NKJV).
Johannine literature truly portrays Jesus as God, with the theme of His deity
interwoven throughout numerous passages. In this respect, John s style differs from
the other four gospels, as Bickel Jantz (1998) point out that the other three had been
written prior to John s gospel, therefore, he wasn t interested in just retelling the
events (p. 222). Since Jesus is the focal point of Scripture, a scholar of the New
Testament with uncertainty concerning Jesus oneness with God will fail to perceive
the crux of Christianity. Therefore, in spite of its importance, John does not focus on
Jesus entrance into the

Mandatory Dress Codes In Schools

The Buddhism Wheel
Buddhism made its debut around the 5th or 6th century B.C.E. in Eastern India.
With access to the Silk Road, Buddhism effectively flourished to the surrounding
areas of Central and Eastern Asia. For example, we begin to see the areas of China
and Tibet adopting Buddhist practices and beliefs. One of the most fundamental
Buddhist teachings is known as the Wheel of Life. In short, we as sentient beings,
are all stuck in an endless cycle of rebirth that is a result of our past actions.
However, just because the cycle is endless, does not mean we cannot escape it.
Ultimately, this Wheel provides all living beings an instruction manual for how to
escape Saб№ѓsДЃra. Throughout this paper, we will examine some of the
components of this wheel, and their importance to the ideas of Buddhism. Finally, we

Here, one might notice a pig, pigeon, and a snake chasing each other in a circle. On
a basic level, one might not understand the significance of these animals. However,
these animals are symoblic of the emotional states that we all share. Geshe Sopa

Every action we perform produces karma (good or bad) The karma we accumulate
through one lifetime decides are next rebirth. Hence, good actions lead to good
rebirths, and bad actions lead to bad rebirths. We are trapped in this cycle because
of these 3 poisons. So, to escape the cycle we first need to understand the idea of
karma. Only in the human world can we recognize the workings of karma, and thus
strive to escape rebirth, and eventually attain a state of Nirvana (no

Summary Of Henry David Thoreau s Resistance To Civil...
Why has every man a conscience, then? I think that we should be men first, and
subjects afterward. (Thoreau 853) Henry David Thoreau, in his writing,
Resistance to Civil Government, defines both what a true man is and what a
subject is. A man is someone who thinks with their conscience, and a subject is
someone who respects and abides by the law. Thoreau wants all people to be men.
To him a subject is nothing more than an inanimate object, because he sees it as
having no moral conscience. He wants people to question their injustices. Thoreau
pushes people to take a chance and disobey unjust laws. His main concepts and
ideas revolve around the large aspect of civil disobedience which tie in with many
different events in society today. On Saturday March 9th, 2013 a young teenager
by the name of Kimani Gray was shot and killed by two police officers in
Brooklyn, New York. Kimani was reported by police to have been with a group of
men late at night in front of a house when the Brooklyn South Anti Crime Patrol
arrived to question them. The sixteen year old boy was said to have been acting
suspicious and went to grab something from his waist. Police said that Kimani had
pointed a .38 caliber revolver at them. Two of the patrollers reacted with having
eleven shots fired at... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason there can be two arguments to this situation is because the facts aren t set
and there seems to be no truth. There is no proof that Kimani had a gun, but there is
not proof against it. This is where Thoreau s thoughts hit a gray area. What is truth in
this situation? It s hard to tell which side is using their moral conscience. The only
obligation which I have a right to assume, is to do at any time what I think right .
(Thoreau 853) Are the police, the community, or both
How Ketchum Is A Small Town Of Northeast Oklahoma
That Has...
Ketchum is a small town in northeast Oklahoma that has a present day population of
450 residents. Ketchum first became a town in 1899 and was named after a
Delaware tribe member named James Ketchum. The town was originally located in
the northeast part of Mayes County, close to James and his wife Elisabeth s home.
However, in 1912 once the Kansas, OklahomaGulf Railroad was expanded from
Kansas to Texas the town was relocated. Residents moved the town site to the
southeastern part of Craig County sandwiched between Mayes County and Delaware
County to be near the railroad.
In 1803 part of the land that would someday become Ketchum was a small portion of
the land that was acquired through the Louisiana Purchase. This land was unsettled
and deemed only suitable for Indian relocation. In 1830 President Andrew Jackson
signed The Indian Removal Act and all Indians West of the Mississippi were forced
to move to the Indian Territory. Once the tribes arrived in Indian Territory they
began to rebuild. The struggles to rebuild lasted many years and some tribes never
flourish as they once did. Many of the effects of the forced relocation are still felt
today. Because of the forced removal the Indians did not trust the federal
government. When the civil war began in 1861 many of the Indians sided with the
confederates due to the lack of trust they had with the federal government and many
of the tribes fought alongside with the Confederate army. Old Military Road was a

Keeping The Arms that Built America
Keeping The Arms That Built America The tree of liberty must be refreshed from
time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure. This quote
from Thomas Jefferson exemplifies the cautious attitude the founding fathers had
when they were creating the constitution. Having just won a war with a tyrant
country, they knew the trouble that a very powerful government could cause. With
America turning towards socialistic and capitalistic ideals, American citizens must
maintain the right to keep and bear arms and therefore returning America to the
democratic principles set forth by our founding fathers. The men who wrote the Bill
of Rights, having just escaped a controlling country, wanted to make a final check on
the government that they had just created (Richardson 2). They accomplished this
with the Second Amendment which gives U.S. citizens the right to keep and bear
arms. And more specifically, the supreme court has decided that people as individuals
have the right to keep and bear arms rather than just a collective militia i.e. the coast
guard (1). Also, the Fourteenth Amendment prevents any stage from making or
enforcing an law that threatens the rights of a U.S. citizen (14th amendment 1). This
means that state governments can not pass a law that infringes upon the Second
Amendment (McDonald v. Chicago). People on the opposing side argue that relaxed
gun laws cause more violence and more death ( Williams 1); however, Washington
Hebrew God Vs Sumerian God
Sumerian gods and the Hebrew s god were part of everyday people s lives. These
gods influenced people s decisions. The Sumerian worked to please their gods, and
the Hebrews view of their god was based on faith and obedience. The Sumerian
gods, as well as the Hebrew s god, were powerful. For instance, they could create
and destroy life, but these gods cared about their people as well. While the Hebrews
had a covenant between them and their god, that could not be broken if they wanted
to prosper, the Sumerian had the Code of Ur Nammu. This code was the will of the
gods and was administered by the state (Joshua J., 2014).The Hebrew s god was also
severe, strict and righteous. Breaking a clause of the covenant would result in facing
the anger of god.
The polytheistic religion of the Sumerian contrasted with the monotheistic religion of
the Hebrews. The people of Sumeria worshipped thousands of gods, and each city
state adopted a god as their protector (Hunt, Martin, Rosenwein Smith, 2013, p.10).
Moreover, the Sumerian built ziggurats, a temple tower, to please their gods (Hunt,...

The gods of both religions had control over all the different aspects of life such as
weather, fertility, and war (Hunt, Martin, Rosenwein Smith, 2013, p.10). For
instance, in the Book of Genesis 17:16 19, the Hebrew s god says to Abraham that
he is going to bless his wife, who is ninety years old, and he is going to give him a
son by her. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, the Sumerian god Aruru creates Enkidu to
destroy Gilgamesh (p. 3). Another aspect of the Sumerian religion is the god like
attributes of the Sumerian kings. This is reflected at the beginning of the Epic of
Gilgamesh: Anu granted him the totality of knowledge of all. He saw the Secret,
discovered the Hidden (p. 1). In the Hebrews religion, only god knows everything,
and he is universal and omnipresent. There is no one in the world more powerful than
The Assassination Of Kris Jenner
Caitlyn Jenner may have fired Kris Jenner from being her manager, but Kris is
crafty enough to find a way to profit. Radar Online, July 22, 2015, reported Kris
found a way around being fired to grab some cash. She secretly managed to make a
deal for Kendall, Kylie, Kim, Kourtney, and Khloe to appear on Caitlyn s
docuseries. For each daughter that appears on the show, Kris receives a
commission of 20 percent. Some believe this may have a bit of revenge in it for
Kris. After Caitlyn s new agent got E to offer her $5 million for the docuseries, Kris
probably felt the sting of how much money she lost. Apparently, this is the largest
deal that E has ever done. When E and the network gave them their first offer, around
$2 million, Caitlyn s agent

Post And Lintel Research Paper
The development of both architecture and pictures both have several creative forms
that are associated with them. The development of Post and Lintel, arches, intaglio
/etching and planographic process are a few that have interesting backgrounds. Post

third member called the lintel. What s interesting about Post and Lintel is that all
structural openings that have been development from the basic idea of post and lintel.

However, prints or printmaking is an interesting technique that can lead to creating
unique designs. The intaglio process, which has been around since the 1400s, and
is still used today, is a perfect example. This technique is one that s not talked
about much and has a rather interesting process. Intaglio can be used with a variety
of different materials such as glass, wood, and stone, but zinc seems to be the
favorite. Intaglio is used in a variety of different methods such as etching, drypoint,
line engraving and aquatint. The process may seem a little lengthy, but it s well
worth the effort. A gooey black waxy material is spread all over the material used.
When it is dries, the designer scratches into it and then placed in an acid bath. The
ink is then applied and ran through a press where duplicates can be made. There are
a variety of hard grounds that can be used such as aquatint, sugar lift and spit bit.
Intaglio pictures are so unique and interesting due to the simple fact of how unique
the process is. The pieces are elegant, beautiful and permanent. Intaglio is an art that
only certain people can master due to the technicality associated with it. It requires
concentration and muscle control to effectively apply even pressure through each
The Oil And Natural Gas Resources
In North Dakota, the nation s second largest petroleum producing state after Texas,
the number of rigs has dropped to 65 from some 191 last year. More than 10,000
jobs have been lost. And unemployment insurance benefits have risen by a reported
115 percent (Bobb). The Bakken Formation is the oil and natural gasresource in North
Dakota. The Bakken Oil Field in North Dakota is young, at only ten to fifteen years
old. It has experienced tremendous growth and success, but is now in its first
recession or bust cycle. The drop in oil prices on a worldwide level has forced oil
companies to stop drilling. Prices of Bakken Oil topped out over one hundred
dollars per barrel, and now are in the teens. Because of the drop, it is not profitable
to drill new oil wells. The result of fluctuating prices is a continuous boom and
bust cycle in the oil industry. When oil prices drop, most people think of the
positive sides and personal benefits of inexpensive fuel. However, many people do
not take into consideration the negatives. People who rely on oil field production,
as well as supporting industries are adversely affected through job layoffs and
company bankruptcy (Bringe). As a result of lower oil and gas prices in the Bakken
Oil Field, North Dakota has experienced overbuilt housing, a financial crisis, and
resource company bankruptcy. One effect of low oil prices in North Dakota is
overbuilt housing. Developers and towns accurately predicted a boom, so many

Computer-Based Career Information Systems Essay
Computer Based Career Information Systems
The adage information is power can certainly be applied to the marriage of career
information with computers. In an era that is characterized by a rapidly changing
employment and occupational outlook, the ability to access computerized career
information has been empowering to both youth and adults (Bloch 1989; Tice and
Gill 1991). Defined as all that people need to know to make choices and take action

preparation for these activities (Bloch 1989, p. 120), career information includes

Predictions about the future of CCIS are presented in conclusion.
Career Information Systems: An Overview
The best known computer based career information systems are the state based career
information delivery systems (CIDS). Serving over 9 million customers yearly at
more than 20,000 sites, CIDS operate in 48 states and provide information about
occupations and educational programs within that state (Mariani 1995 96; National
Occupational Information Coordinating Committee 1996). Although CIDS have been
developed by a number of different vendors and customized for particular audiences,
they share the following core features (ibid.):
Assessment. Most CIDS now have one or more online tools that help users assess
their values, interests, skills, aptitudes, or experiences as well as the characteristics
they expect from a job. These assessments help users learn about themselves and the
qualities they might prefer in a career. A relatively new feature of CIDS, skills
assessments have proven especially helpful to experienced workers who need to find
a new career.
Occupational Search. The occupational search feature allows users to match
personal characteristics with compatible job and career possibilities. Some
occupational searches are based on the results of the assessments, but, in others, the
user selects and rates search variables that are then used to generate a list of
occupations. Users may also simply access an index of occupations
George Washington A Good President Essay

Washington. George Washington was a great leader of his country. He was tall, rich,
and born into the Virginian Gentry, which was helpful for the national leadership in
his time. His morals are continuously looked upon to follow. He passionately spread

Political historian Thomas A. Bailey of Standford stated, Lincoln was undeniably a
great man... In spirit, in humility, in humanity, in magnanimity, in patience, in
Christlike spirit, in capacity for growth, in political instincts, in holding together a
discordant political following, in interpreting and leading public opinion and in
seizing with bulldog grip the essential idea of preserving the Union. Lincoln was a
political genius. His greatness shined when he brought the nation through its crisis.
Democrats had hoped that the Kansas Nebraska Act would calm the passions of
the slavery issue. Because this had an opposite effect, Lincoln not only saw this,
but crafted a rhetorical concept of both the crisis and a pathway for getting through
it. He made a way for the 13th amendment, getting rid of slavery in the U.S.. His
perseverance and determination not only saved the Union, but insured, in his own
words, a new birth of freedom and that government of the people, by the people, for
the people, shall not perish from the earth. Along with his leadership skills, Lincoln
had a great personality and was very empathetic towards others. People gravitated
towards him for his presence. Lincoln sought the good in those around him. His

Wars, Wars and rumors of wars!!!! Everyone knows the United States has had its fair

Wars of 1812, Mexican American War (1846 48), American Civil War(1861 65),
Indian War (1865 91), Spanish American War( 1898), Philippine American War
(1899 1902) Border War(Mexican Revolutionary)1910 1919, World War I (1917

Vietnam War (1964 1975), Persian Gulf War (1990 91), and of course the War on
Terrorism (2001 present). And that s just the major wars. Out of all of these wars
the one that I will discuss is the American Civil War. First, I will enlighten you on
why I chose the American Civil War. Next, I will expound upon the reason that
commenced the American Civil War. Last, I will inform you on what the after effects
were from the American Civil War. The American Civil War just might be one of the
most historic and significant wars for the United States of America s history. Some
might say well what about the American Revolutionary War? Well then let me help
you distinguish the difference between American Revolutionary War and the
American Civil War. The American Revolutionary War was the battle between Great
Britain and thirteen of its North American colonies, which had proclaimed

Essay On Coriolanus Banishment
Ralph Fiennes, actor and director, portrays the fearsome Roman military hero who
loathes those of lesser class than to him, protagonist Coriolanus. One of the most
important scenes for the film Coriolanus is his banishment, done by the people he
sought lesser of (plebeians). His sudden outburst to the banishment y the common
people will be referred to as the common cry of curs speech from the Shakespeare
play, to the common people on power and honour. Specifically this scene, is after
his banishment from the common people chanting in empowered it shall be so

juxtaposition. Film techniques I will discuss are eye level angle shots, cut aways and

This creates a complete contrast to the effect the eye level angle shots. Eye angle
shots suggest equality compared to the hyperboles, used in effect to construct
Coriolanus as a man who believes himself to be the most prized military possession
of the world used by shakespeare in Coriolanus s retaliation to his banishment.
Near the closing of Coriolanus s retaliation, Coriolanus declares he will find a
world elsewhere where his military prowess is needed. The same world where
without Coriolanus the Romans will be annihilated by their enemies (Volscians)
That won you without blows . By choosing to use eye level angle shots Coriolanus
and the common people are perceived to be equals. In contrast Coriolanus states
boldly with reassurance how the Romans will inevitably be drained from existence
without his presence, creating a gap between him and the common people in terms
of power and who holds importance. Coriolanus would rather hold power and be
banished, as he values power and honour over powerlessness and being a flattering
empathetic politician to the people. Coriolanus, born a Roman in Rome holds his
beliefs of honour being the utter most important thing to live for with

Similar to how the great painter Pablo Picasso paints a picture using colors on a
canvas, an author paints an image in the reader s mind through the style that they can
write. The way an author chooses to write their novel can help the reader understand
the author s personality, beliefs, and general lifestyle. Every author who has ever
written anything from a letter to a friend to a novel has their own personal writing
style unique to their author that can be observed through their works. Maya Angelous

There are many similarities between the style of writing in Maya Angelou s I

The Indidy Of Aeschylus As An Ancient Greek Tragedy
Aeschylus was an ancient Greek tragedian. He is often described as the father of
tragedy. Academics knowledge of the genre begins with his work, and
understanding of earlier tragedies is largely based on his surviving plays.
According to Aristotle, he expanded the number of characters in theater allowing
conflict among them; characters had previously interacted only with the chorus.
Only seven of Aeschylus s estimated seventy to ninety plays have survived, and
there is a longstanding debate regarding his authorship of one of these plays,
Prometheus Bound, which some believe his son Euphorion wrote. Fragments of
some other plays have survived in quotes and more continue to be discovered on
Egyptian papyrus, often giving us surprising insights into his work. He was
probably the first dramatist to present plays as a trilogy; his Oresteia is the only
ancient example of the form to have survived. At least one of his plays was
influenced by the Persians second invasion of Greece (480 479 BC). This work, The
Persians, is the only surviving classical Greek tragedy concerned with contemporary
events ,and a useful source of information about its period. The significance of war in
Ancient Greek culture was so great that Aeschylus epitaph commemorates his
participation in the Greek victory at Marathon while making no mention of his
success as a playwright. Despite this, Aeschylus work particularly the Oresteia is
generally acclaimed by modern critics and scholars. Aeschylus was
Colonisation Assignment
Colonisation definition
The New Zealand Oxford dictionary (2005) defines colonisation as establishing a
colony or colonies in a country or area (p. 215). That means a group of people
invading and fully forming a community in a new country or an area. In New
Zealand, colonisation was the process of British migrants settling down in the
country and building a government after the signing the Treaty of Waitangiin 1840.
History of immigration (2005) explains that large numbers of people from Britain

Waitangi Tribunal (2011) writes, the Treaty of Waitangi has two texts, one Maori
and one English. The English text is not an exact translation of the Maori text
(para.2). In the Maori version the word sovereignty was translated as kawanatanga
(governance). New Zealand History (2011) indicates that Maori believed they had
ceded a right of governance over their lands but retained the power to manage their
own affairs. Maori had big expectations of the treaty, they hoped there would be a
sharing of authority and the country would be protected from other foreign powers.
Treaty of Waitangi Settlement Process (1999) points out that in reality, when New
Zealand became a colony of the British the treaty was practically ignored, and there
was expropriation of land and the culture of the native people was disregarded.
Many British migrants came to New Zealand after the treaty was signed and the
government took land from Maori for British settler families to live on. Maori had
no power to manage their own land once the British government took over. Waitangi
Tribunal (2011) states, ...the Government took far more land than it said it would
take (para. 4). Maori lost much of the land that they had owned for years.
After the Treaty of Waitangi, British (non Maori) become powerful throughout the
country and Maori become powerless. New Zealand in History (2000)

Max Weber Theory
The fate of our time is characterized by rationalization and intellectualization and,
above all, by the disenchantment of the world Max Weber was a political economist
and social theorist from the late 19th century. He was most well known for his theory
of Weberian bureaucracy and rationalization. Max Weberwas born Maximillian Karl
Emil Weber he was born April 21, 1864 in in Prussia and lived to be 56 and died on
June 14,1920, in Munich, Germany. Weber Was the oldest of 7 kids, and his
father was a prominent civil servant and member of the National Liberal Party, but
Weber was not close to his father and they were estranged until his death in 1897,
due to Weber taking his mothers side during marital fights. His mother Helene was
an absolutist and Weber was very very close with her. It is to be noted that growing
up intellectualism was always valued and even encouraged, at age 13 for
Christmas Weber got his parents two historical essays as gifts and during his
school years he read all 40 volumes of Goethe and this was highly thought to have
influenced some of his later works. Weber started off as a law student in 1882 at
the University of Heidelberg but in 1883 took a year off in 1993 for military
service before transferring to the University of Berlin. Weber passed the Referendar
in 1886 after completing his apprenticeship as a junior lawyer. He continued
studying law throughout the late 1880 s and in 1889 he earned his doctorate based

Similarities And Differences Between The Spanish

Several nations, most notably Spain, France, and Great Britain, attempted to colonize
North America after the Americas were discovered. Some of these colonies became
successful and was very beneficial to their nations, bringing in raw materials and new
crops. However, this also led to some conflicts between the Native Americans and the
Europeans. Even though these European colonies developed in different areas in
North America, there were some political, social, and economic similarities, such as
the French and Spanish governments, main religion in New France and New Spain,
and the basis of the economy, and some differences, such as the views on the Indians,
the New England government, and the focus on what was traded. All of these colonies

The majority of the population in each of the colonies was Christian, but New
France and New Spain had mainly Catholics while New England was mainly
Protestant. This disparity was due to the reasons the people decided to move to
the colonies. Protestants moved to New England to move away from the Church
of England since they believed that the English Reformation didn t change enough
things in the church. However, the Catholics from New Spain and New France
wanted to either convert the Native Americans into Christians or establish some
Christian influence in North America. In addition, they had very different views
on what the Native Americans were and how to treat them. In New Spain, they
saw them strictly as savages that were either supposed to be saved by converting
them into Christians or killed and conquered. In New England, their view of them
was originally positive because they were given assistance to survive on the
colonies, but they did become enemies due to their greed. In New France, their
view was very positive as they tried to make an alliance with the natives due to the
Indians involvement in the fur trade. All of these varying views were a result of
their differing goals in which they became friends or enemies depending on the
positives of having that relationship, such as New France s

This law states how companies exchange information of cyber threats with the higher

Dreamliner 787 Case Study
Boeing is the worlds largest aerospace company. While Boeing is known mostly
known for their commercial airplanes they also manufactures defense, space and
security systems, military aircrafts, weapons, satellites, electronic defense systems,
launch systems and information and communication systems (Boeing, 2013). In this
case we are going to focus on the Dreamliner 787, and the problems that came with
the creation of it. The first Boeing 787Dreamliner was delivered to Japan s ANA in
2011, nearly 40 months after the planned delivery date. The expected delivery was
in May 2008, but the fuel efficient 787 Dreamliner s manufacturing had become
complicated due to multiple changes in the design and supply chain implemented all
at once. Far from the traditional manufacturing, Dreamliner design consists of many
new features like unique design, one piece fuselage, reduced weight, 20% increase
in fuel economy, and reduction in maintenance time. Apart from the changes in
design, another major difficulty was the company s global supply chain network.
For the first time ever Boeing outsourced two most critical parts fuselage and
wings. Everything put together, the complications kept increasing and so is the
delay. At least when the plane finally the entered the market years later design came
out as expected, and there weren t any sacrifices to the design that had to be made.
The plane can hold from 210 250 passengers on routes of 7650 8200 nautical miles

treatment and prevention has become more difficult. Resources are being spent on
trying to develop vaccinations and antibiotics for wildly diverse and common
infections, and none more than the prevalence of the microbial pathogen Salmonella.
Our understanding of this pathogen has only reached infancy stage, leaving a high
demand for further understanding of the organism, pathways of infection, and its
potential effect on our society. The bacteriaSalmonella is rod shaped, Gram negative
staining and has flagella exposed on all sides. An average cell has a diameter of 0.7
1.5 micrometers, and a length of 2 5 micrometers. These bacteria are facultative
anaerobes,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Freezing the food may kill some of the bacteria and inhibit growth. (F. W. Schofield,
1945) Treating with heat has become the basic form of treating Salmonella, but in
some foods cells can become heat resistance, such as the case with peanut butter.
Antibodies and vaccines have been developed that protect children from bacterial
infection caused by Salmonella. The largest preventive measure taken thus far has
been the collaborative approach in food safety handling and processing, applying
preventive measures in food safety in all stages of the food supply chain. Further
strategies for reducing the spread of Salmonella include educating the consumers,
foodservice establishments, and food workers on public
Eli Lilly Pharmaceutical Company
Eli Lilly Co. lost a group of important select patents so they are now looking to
compete by producing new drugs . Due to long research and development times
prior to a drug hitting the market, revenue forecasts for the company are unknown.
Lilly s short term forecast is not much clearer as revenue for the fourth quarter of
2013 declined 2 percent to $5.80 billion largely on Cymbalta s patentexpiration, the
company affirmed. Net income dropped 12 percent to $727.5 million, or 67 cents
per diluted share, compared with $827.2 million, or 74 cents per share, for the year
earlier quarter (Zhang).
Lilly s unique proficiency is its capability to bring about drug advancement. Lilly
has the skill to identify prospective drug applicants by frequently improving
processes with their research and development. To give an example, in the 1960s
Lilly started a line of oral and injectable antibiotics called cephalosporins. Lilly has
many examples such as this in which they are the first company to do XY or Z. The
company is continually investing in new alliances and technologies around the
world to aid in their research and to expand their abilities. The company will be able
to achieve further patents as a result of their new alliances and technology research.
Eli Lilly s main focal points are quality, innovation, and customer care. With a focus
on the not yet met medical needs of clients, the response time in which they deliver
important drug therapies hit the market, and top

MR and CT scanners both produce images of anatomical structure, but the images
they generate look quite different. The striking difference between the two is that,
bone structure
(cortical) appears bright in CT, so is black in MR. MR images tend to have much
higher contrast between grey matters. There are many instances in which it would be
desirable to integrate the information obtained from two or more studies of the same
patient. Application areas of multimodality matching include radio therapy and
nuclear medicine [2]. In radiation therapy planning, a CT scan is needed fordose
distribution calculations while the contours of the target lesion are often best outlined
on MRI [3,4]. In nuclear medicine, determination of the anatomical location of
dysfunctional areas and studies in functional structural relationships are facilitated by
integration of functional and morphological information, and anatomical information
may be used to improve PET or SPECT reconstructions. Since information gained
from two images acquired in the clinical track of events is usually of a
complementary nature, proper integration of useful data obtained from the separate
images is often desired. The first step in the integration process is to bring the
modalities involved into spatial alignment, a procedure referred to as registration
/matching as shown in Figure 1.
After registration, a fusion step is
Transgender History
In the E book Transgender History in the United States , Genny Beemyn looks back
on the past of transgender visibility and discrimination in America, citing those who
historically broke out of their traditional gender roles, and using these stories to prove
that there have been gender questioning people for millennia. Beemyn also helps to
differentiate crossdressing and being transgender. The author explains the
discrimination these people faced, how they lived their lives, and the ways they hid
their past identities. He supports this claim by first telling the story of Billy Tipton,
a jazz musician from the 1980 s. Beemyn explains how Tipton was defined female at
birth, but lived his life as man, and even ...avoided doctors and died from... Show

He explains that it is a common misconception that crossdressers and transgenders are
the same, when crossdressers continue to identify personally as their birth gender, and
transgender individuals identify as a gender other than what they were assigned at
birth, typically experiencing body dysphoria as well. This could certainly be
contributing to the issue of transphobia as well, causing confusion about whether
someone is just pretending to be another gender, or actually identifies as such.
Misconceptions and confusion such as this could be adding fuel to the fire over the
controversy of transgenders and bathroom laws, people believing that individuals
who are the gender they dress like are simply acting, doing it for personal enjoyment
or deceiving. Beemyn s purpose is to show how early on gender nonconformity has
lasted, and to get rid of misconceptions as to what being transgender actually
Substanc Substance Abuse
Substance abuse is a mistreatment of liquid or solid substances or drugs. When you
think of individuals who take advantage of substances, what is your impression? Do
you feel it is a choice and are exceptions? If so what are those exceptions. Substances
come in various forms. You have your gateway substances such as marijuana and
alcohol, which are common among the majority, are considered harmless then you
have your harmful frowned upon substances like cocaine and meth that are
notoriously known for damages on the brains functionality.
The negative effects of substance abuse on the individual, more so the society as a
whole, cannot be overestimated. Researchers of health, social and psychological
fields have compounded various studies to help identify and determine abused
substances and in painstakingly find what motivates the populace against abusing
substances. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many do not understand the fact that not all substances that are abused are drugs,
inhalants and solvents like nitrates, spray paints, markers, glues are sometimes
abused for their mood altering effects and it is mostly common amongst young
children and adolescents. These are definitely common everyday life tools and
materials and people do not typically think of them as drugs. Some drugs commonly
associated with the terms substance abuse are cocaine, ecstasy, alcohol,
amphetamines, nicotine, opiates and
Methods Of Marker Assisted Selection
Marker assisted selection (MAS) is a method using fluoresces to determine whether
there are mutations in a particular gene. One form of MAS is Fluorescence in situ
Hybridization (FISH), in which the target gene (ADA gene) is denatured (splits into
single strands) in a solution containing a direct DNA probe which has an identical
base pair sequence to the ADA gene being analyzed (these DNAprobes are also
denatured into single strands). A direct DNA probe is made up of modified dNTPs
which have been altered to contain a fluorophore (a fluorescent chemical compound
that has the ability to re emit light upon mild excitation), these will bind to the ADA
gene strands if there are no mutations present (i.e. it is a fully functioning gene). If...

In this time the blastocyst also connects to the endometrial blood vessels in order for
it to gain the nutrients necessary for survival through the blood supply, it is after this
that implantation is considered complete. Medication can also be taken to increase
the chances of successful implantation, such as progesterone, progestins or a GnRH
agonist, however these are nonessential for successful implantation to occur.
Implantation is not 100% successful hence the use of these medications for
increased chances perhaps if only a few viable embryos are able to be implanted
Gene Therapy
Gene therapy is a way in which an individual with a preexisting genetic disorder (in
this case ADA deficiency) can be treated. This involves the insertion of a functioning
ADA gene into an individual s cells through the use of viral vectors, to replace the
mutated ADA gene that is non functioning or functioning incorrectly. In order for this
process to be viable multiple techniques are used, including: restriction enzymes,
ligation, PCR and transfection. Through these processes an individual is able to
As there are 70 known mutations on the ADA gene currently that can cause ADA
deficiency, I have chosen to focus on one specific mutation s gene therapy. This
mutation is a substitution mutation located at the 646th base pair on exon 7, where a
G base has been substituted for an A base. In this case a fully functioning ADA gene
is sourced from a donor, in which it will
The Future of Potential Energy Sources
Future of Potential Energy
A lot of factors must be considered when it comes to assessing the potential of
renewable energy for economic sustainability bearing in mind that the energy sector
is continuously growing. It is imperative that available information on Department of
Energy DOE, lands and solar and wind renewable energy resources are gathered.
This should be followed with appropriate screens for GIS analysis (Dahle, Elliot,
Heimiller, Mehos, Robichaud, Schwartz, Stafford, and Walker, 2008, p.23). Finally,
data identifying Department of Energy Office of Legacy Management, DOE LM sites
with potential for renewable energy development should be processed. One way of
understanding a site s renewable development potential for renewable energy
resources like wind or solar is their intensity. Site conditions like steep slopes,
access to transmission lines, or proximity to disturbance free environment can
grossly affect development opportunities. When gathering information on DOE
lands, it is imperative that focus is put on parcels currently under Legacy
Management administration (Dahle et al, 2008, p. 23). In this respect, property
listing like reference coordinate and the acreage of the property have to be focused
on. The property information should therefore be matched with renewable energy
resource datasets to identify the level of resource at each site. For site specific
applications more detailed data should be used (Dahle et al, 2008, p.24). To develop

Humor In The Princess Bride
The Princess Bride captures the element of humor and witty comedy through
effective characterization to bring out the true version of the fantasy involving the
classic love stories in medieval kingdom setting. Firstly, from the onset, the film
opens with hilarious comments from the grandson as the grandfather prepares to
read the story. The grandson appears less enthusiastic to hear the narration, and
seeks to know what exactly the story will unfold by remarking that if the fairytale
will have scenes involving a lot of kissing. Falk in preemptive version alludes to the
fact that obviously the story has eminent kissing and bounty of screaming Eels
(Haase, 2007). This claim sets the tone for a true comedy delivered in quasi heroic
epic fantasy version where the episodes transcend viewers emotional expectations in
engaging humor scenes despite the enthralling swordfights and combats. In fact, The

DOCUMENT ANALYSIS LUCRETIUS: EPICUREAN PHILOSPHY AT ROME
Within Lucretius dialectic and poetic writings in Robert Latham s translation of
Lucretius: On the Nature of the Universe, three major topics are discussed:
philosophy, religion, and science. Lucretius was devoted to the works of his teacher
and renowned philosopher Epicurus, praising him as a prophetic or god like figure.
His poetic prose uses a host of concrete examples to show validity in his beliefs.
Lucretius effectively supports the Epicurean worldview that everything can be
explained by material forces. Memmius is the addressee of the poem, and Lucretius
enlightens him to the nature of happiness, how religion is based on superstition, and
the idea of atoms composing earthly matter. Evaluating reality gives mankind the
natural answers to life s questions without concerning themselves with gods,
prophets, or beliefs, and this was Lucretius main task in his work. Lucretius was a
Roman poet who believed that the Epicurean systems provided the most important
and valuable way of thinking. He pledged all of his poetic and persuasive writing
skills towards presenting Epicurus teachings in a concise expose. A key Epicurean
doctrine which he explores is the concept of the Nature of Happiness. Philosophy, in
this mindset, is a refuge from the trials and tribulations of the
Neighbors Movie Psychology
The movie Neighbors clearly demonstrates psychological motives when Pete,
played by Dave Franco, states that he is a psychology minor. At the one hour and
five minutes mark of the movie, he proceeds to explain Teddy s, played by Zac
Efron, motives for why he becomes obsessed with hating their new neighbors
(IMDb.com, n.d.). He explains Teddy doesn t like the familynext door because they
remind him of his future and he is having too much fun, not planning for it. As the
conversation continues, Teddy identifies other reactions he had been having to
problems the two best friends have been having (Stoller, Neighbors ). Earlier in the
movie, Pete slept with Teddy s girlfriend, but as a way to cope with that, Teddy
demonstrates a defense mechanism... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, Teddy s parents are still together, therefore leaving him
oblivious to the stress level that Pete could sense (Stoller, Neighbors ). Weiten

is a commonly used drug throughout the movie. Page 212 and 214 show the effects
of this drug, as well as others and alcohol and Neighbors distinctly exhibits these
effects. As being centered around a college fraternity, drugs and alcohol are apparent
and these said effects are shown, whether being good or bad (Stoller,
Women To Work At Lowell Essay
In Lowell, Massachusetts, in 1822, a new opportunity arose for young single
women. A factory operated there with several cotton mills. Their work
environment wasn t in the best shape as their factory yard was full of mud. The
work involved cleaning, burling, inking, marking, and fine drawing cloth. These
women could work long days at the mills in exchange for pay. This work became
very popular and many women came to work at the mills from morning until night.
However, they didn t receive an extraordinary amount of money for it. Josephine
Baker claimed that the most positive aspect of her work was the fact that her earned
money comes quickly, and though the work is intensive that she is free at the end of
her work day, and there is access to lectures, schools, and libraries. She found it...

Surely Lowell was very intensive, but it is a choice. Lowell offers a variety of
benefits, like pay, school, and libraries. Lowell offered a new opportunity to women.
It might also help a woman to be independent. Lowell gave a new role to women in
American society. No longer were women banished to their homes, dependent on
family or a husband. This opened new opportunities in women s lives because they
could also partake in the lectures, schooling, and libraries permitted by the factory.
However, they still participated in a male dominated society with probably not
much hope of advancing in the factory setting. In the end, at least this movement
would open doors for many women in the future. Being able to work in the factory
puts their foot in the door for greater things. In the future women may make a stand
for having their rights. Surely they deserve the right to an appropriate wage that
wouldn t lessen every couple of years. This provided a greater chance for women to
have other jobs in the future. Josephine Baker gives her opinion by submitting her

observed a male pushing a female, trying to force the female to drink something, and
then pouring whatever it was on the female.
While I was enroute, dispatch stated Navarro spoke to a differenent witness who

that area.
William replied Elizabeth is Bi Polar and has mood swings when she has not eaten or
drank anything for an extended period of time. William explained when
Elizabeth has her mood swings, he hugs her tight with one arm, bringing her in close
to him, and it helps her to calm down.
William said Elizabeth was having one of mood swings, so he wrapped an arm
around her and tried to calm her down. William said he also tired to get Elizabeth to
drink some soda he had, but it did not work to calm her down. William said
Elizabeth grabbed the soda from his hand and threw it. William said he walked with
Elizabeth back to their apartment where she was able to eat some food and relax. I
asked William if he ever poured the soda on Elizabeth, and he replied no .
Joshua, who is Elizabeth s 7 year old son, was standing next to William while we
were talking. When I asked William if he poured soda on Elizabeth, Joshua laughed
and said, He didn t pour soda on her. . Joshua told me she was walking with
Elizabeth and William and stated said William hugged Elizabeth because they were
arguing a little bit , but William never hit or pushed Elizabeth.
Officer Bemis told me Elizabeth had the same story as William and Joshua.

Donald Trump s landmark victory as the soon to be 45th president of the United
States shakes the political paradigm as we know it, turning the world on its ear.
Lance Wallnau, a refreshing Dallas based prophetic voice in the business world and
the church, has been prophesying about Donald Trump for over a year in videos and
posts all over social media to a growing audience of 200,000 or more.
In his landmark and popular book released in September 2016 he describes Donald
Trump as: God s Chaos candidate. This term is based on a word he received from the
Lord:
In a Charisma News article dated October 5, entitled Why I Believe Donald Trump
is the Prophesied President, he said this: I heard the Lord say: Donald Trump is a
wrecking ball to the spirit of political correctness.
Wallnau is not alone in his belief; well known prophets including Dutch Sheets,
Chuck Pierce, Kim Clement, Rick Joyner, and Elijah List founder Steve Shultz, as
well as many other prophetic voices around the world felt it was a turning point in
history for which Donald Trump was the chosen vessel God would use to change the
direction of our nation.
Now here we stand to make no bones about it; Donald Trump is president elect and
will take office on January 20. Until then our divided country will try to heal and find

How Does Steinbeck Present Cain In The Bible
In John Steinbeck s East of Eden, Adam s son Cal reflects the character of Cain in
the Bible. Cain is born to Adam and Eve. When Cain and Abel present gifts to God,
God favors Abel s gift. Cain grows jealous and kills his brother out of jealousy.
Though similar to Cain, John Steinbeck uses the choices Cal makes to contrast his
character to Cain in the Bible and to demonstrate that, despite being evil, people
can choose their course in life. Cal is similar to the Biblical character Cain in many
ways. Both Cal and Cain are born to men named Adam and both have brothers who
are favored. In the Bible, God curses Cain, and makes him a restless wanderer on the
earth (New Jerusalem Bible, Genesis. 4:14). In East of Eden, Cal wanders around at
night,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cain hated his brother but Cal truly loves his brother. So, when Cal finds out that
his mother is still alive, he realizes that he should not tell his brother (380). Cal
knows that his brother would not be able to handle the idea of their mother being
alive or even the idea that their father lied. For his brother, he hides the secret. Cal
also inspires Aron to go to college early as he tells him, I m going to try to make
some money. If you knuckle down and pass examinations a year early, why, I ll
help you through college (Steinbeck 476). Cal tries to be good to his brother, but
unfortunately he lets his anger get the best of him. After being rejected by Adam,
Cal becomes jealous of Aron and ignores his conscience. Despite the consequences,
Cal tells Aron what he knows about their mother (546), which ends up indirectly
killing Aron. Aron volunteers for the war in response to finding out about their
mother and is killed in the war. Although Cal makes a couple of bad decisions, he
also makes a lot of good choices to try to be a better person. In contrast to Cain who
is viewed to have hated his brother, Cal loves his brother and feels guilty over his

When a person or worker is performing heavy work in a hot environment the body is
building up heat. The body uses two cooling mechanisms to get rid of the excess heat
and to keep the internal temperature of 38 degrees Celsius. The first thing is that the
rate from the heart is increases for the blood to move and the heat from lungs, heart,
and other organs that are vital to the skin. The second is that the sweat increases to
help cool the body and blood. When the cooling mechanisms from the body work
pretty well, the core temperature form the body drops or is stabilized at a safe level.
But when too much sweat is lost through either heavy labor or performing work
under hot conditions or environment, humid conditions or environment, the body
does not have enough water left to cool itself. The outcome of this or result is called
dehydration. There are many ways to recognize heat stress disorders and treat them,
but first one must understand that they can range from minor to life threatening.
They are ranged from: heat rash, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and the most
dangerous heat stroke. In the following paragraphs the symptoms and treatment for
each will be discussed for the purpose of heightening up the awareness of one s self
and to gain knowledge.
Heat rash is the most common of them all. Some of the symptoms for heat rash are
extreme itching in areas that are persistently damp with sweat and red

  • 1. This I Believe Essay Examples Crafting an essay on the topic of "This I Believe Essay Examples" poses its own set of challenges. The intricacies lie not only in expressing personal beliefs but also in weaving them into a coherent narrative that resonates with the audience. The task demands introspection, a deep exploration of one's values, and the ability to articulate these convictions effectively. One of the challenges is striking the right balance between self-disclosure and relatability. The essay must reveal enough about the author's beliefs to make a meaningful connection with the reader, yet not overshare to the point of becoming self-indulgent. Striking this delicate equilibrium requires careful consideration of language, tone, and pacing. Another hurdle is the need for authenticity. Expressing one's beliefs genuinely is essential for the essay's success. However, the vulnerability that comes with exposing personal convictions can be intimidating. Writers must navigate the fine line between sincerity and avoiding oversharing, all while ensuring the essay remains compelling and engaging. Structuring the essay poses its own challenges. Balancing the personal narrative with broader implications can be tricky. The essay should not only delve into individual beliefs but also connect them to universal themes, making the piece relevant and thought-provoking for a diverse audience. Furthermore, the challenge lies in finding a unique angle or perspective. Given the topic's broad nature, avoiding clichГ©s and offering fresh insights is crucial. Writers must strive to present their beliefs in a way that stands out, prompting readers to reflect on their own convictions. In conclusion, writing an essay on "This I Believe Essay Examples" is a complex task that requires a delicate blend of introspection, authenticity, and skillful storytelling. Navigating the fine line between personal disclosure and broader relevance, all while maintaining a unique and engaging perspective, adds layers of difficulty to the process. However, with careful thought and creativity, writers can overcome these challenges and produce a compelling essay that resonates with readers. • 2. The Ku Klux Klan ( Kkk ) The Ku Klux Klan (KKK) came into being in 1865 and was widespread in the southern states of the USA. It was founded by former Confederate veterans in Pulaski, Tennessee. It was a movement, formed after the civil war of America, to oppress the Republican Party s policies of reconstruction. Few years after its formation, the movement engaged in war, fear and hatred in the war ravaged south. The group s activities during this period have had adverse effects on the American society that still haunt them to date (Southern Poverty Law Centre, 2011). Racial supremacy was the driving force of the group s initial driving force. Ku Klux Klan objectives aimed at re establishing white authority throughout America. The southern states were characterized by lawlessness and violence in an attempt to intimidate the black community and sympathizers of the Republican s policies of slavery abolishment. The group has been powerful and very evident twice in the American history (Southern Poverty Law Centre, 2011). In this paper, we will concentrate on the movement s activities and defining moments from 1865 to 1900. The above is the first period of the clan widely known as the first Klan. The paper looks at how the group contributed to the reestablishment of white supremacy in the social, political and economic life of the South America. The goals and tactics of the clan led to bloody events that shaped the socio economic and political lifestyle of both white and black Southern Americans. The
  • 3. Foolproof Tactics Wow, that assembly was extremely interesting. I felt so inspired by their sleep inducing speeches and extremely confident stutter. The people I m talking about, is of course the idiots who think they can win the nomination for Board of trustees(B.O.T). School politics are so easy to manipulate, for even the stupidest people. Here are some foolproof tactics to win at school politics. Firstly and probably most importantly, before I say this I must stress not to skip this step, is to volunteer for the position. This might seem extremely for the average reader but it is possible and armed with these foolproof tactics there is no way you could ever lose. A key to success is a good appearance. A good appearance has very specific circumstances. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... False promises are key to getting your audience to vote for you. Claim you want do the best for everyone but in reality it is all about you winning. One great example is to attempt to promise the ability for people to leave school during lunch. This is excellent because it is what the people want but obviously there is no way the republicans will let anything through the senate. The hype train is important for people to win you would want the to be derailed. This can be done by focusing upon the young and naive as the will are likely to believe whatever you say so add a few hype men to their ranks and easy votes are gained. The plan would influence them to want to vote for as it seems popular. Quantity not quality of vote matters. On that note it is important you stand fresh and trendy, try something like this, check my lit instagram for some fire photos or damn (somebody s name, don t actually say somebody s name use the name of the person ur trying to target) back at it again with the dank memes. This makes seem like an ordinary peasent but in reality they are nothing to you. Looking through these ideas I have seen a clear victor this year with his false promises, riding the hype train with his fancy slogans and his fake recommendations. For his trickery and underhand tactics he deserves an applause for his ideas, I can still hear yes for
  • 4. Those Winter Sundays Analysis In Robert Hayden s poem Those Winter Sundays tells of an individual reminiscing about their father and the sacrifices he made to provide for them. In the poem, the father was not appreciated for his contribution but the narrator seems to now acknowledge the hard work of the father. As the poem progresses the tone of the narrator is one of regret and remorse. The relationship of the parent and child is often one of misunderstanding and conflict until the experiences life more and come in grasps of the parent s intention. So, the relation between a parent and child evolves as the child emerges to adulthood. I was able to connect to this poem as I experienced mutual feelings for my own father. Similar to the narrator in the writing, I too feel... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hayden uses the juxtaposition of the cold of the outdoors to the warmth of the home that the writer creates to present the father s love for his child. Although the father did not demonstrate conventional love for the narrator but proved his unconditional love by putting a roof over the child s head. The winter night is metaphor for the absence of love. Though the child did not comprehend the love the father had for them, they reminiscence upon how the would be left in the cold if the father did not meet the provisions. So the father s love was not evident in displays of affection but meeting the needs of the child. Most fathers demonstrate their love in what seems like a harsh manner, working most of the time and not spending quality time to fulfil their first role as a father the provider. Nevertheless as a transformation take place the role of the father or parent become replicated in the adult child. Through understanding the contribution of the caregiver; once empathic response to the parent increases. Hence it closes the gap of differences that exist within the child parent

  • 7. Dysfunction In American Beauty American Beauty What is it saying about the pursuit of the American Dream? The portrayal of an American family as shown in the movie, American Beauty, is one of dysfunction. In fact, the homosexual couple is the only family that seem to display somewhat normal behavior. As a non traditional family, the homosexual couple appear connected, loving, and very happy. Most importantly, they demonstrate great respect for each other, something the heterosexual families do not. This non traditional family is seen in small doses throughout the movie. However, the families that are prominently displayed for the majority of the movie are The Burnhams and The Fitts; the so called normal family unit. What is striking about this display of normalcy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Burnhams strive to follow a modern version of the American Dream . Her own insecurities become more obvious throughout the film. She must have a beautiful single family home in a suburban neighborhood, a successful career, and a display of perfectly groomed roses that line her fence. Carolyn has insecurities that run deep. She often catches herself in a weak, emotional moment where she feels inferior. A quote from Carolyn, My company sells an image. It s part of my job to live that image. I interpreted this quote as how she views life on a global scale. This is her American Dream and her own happiness. Janey Burnham, Lester and Carolyn s daughter, is shown at the beginning of the film viewing articles online for breast augmentation. This reveals her low self esteem and desire towards a perfect image. Janey feels as though she doesn t live up to the standards of what a young teenager should look like. Throughout the film, the viewer sees Janey redefine her idea of perfection and her growing sense of

  • 9. An Overview of Postmodernism Essay The political climate at the beginning of the 1940 s and the changes taking place all around the world drastically influenced the face of contemporary society. The invasion of Poland by Germany on 1st of September 1939 was the first stone thrown in the face of freedom of expression and liberty out of the many that followed for the next decades. The dawn of the Second World War was one of the premises that forced many European artists, pioneers par excellence in their field, through their French or German inherited status, to immigrate across the ocean. Due to the exile, the art centre also moved overseas, from Paris to New York, offering a new opportunity for American art to be the initiator in what was generally accepted as the new... However, when consulting the Macmillan Dictionary (2010) the description offered is significantly less conclusive: ideas, attitudes, or styles of art, literature, or thinking that have developed after modernism, often as a reaction against The main accent is set on the chronological aspect of postmodernism and its logical and historical flow offering the reader not enough information to identify a clear period or any particular feature. Only by comparing the two definitions, a very small part of the available explanations on the subject, and at the same time reading them together one can identify one of the main components of the movement: diversity in all its aspects. The difference in these definitions is not just a simple coincidence and should be taken as a figure of speech for the description of the entire period. During this time critics and writers, artists and architects etc. have tried to find a proper explanation for the changes they were being part of, concretised in what became known as Postmodernism. During the 1960s attacks started appearing against the elitism shown by modernism. One of the first voices pointing at modernism s faults was the poet Karl Shapiro , who in 1959 in an article for The Times Book

Delian League Research Paper The Delian League was an alliance of eastern Greek city states formed in 478 BCE, to protect the rights and interests of those states against additional attacks from the Persians, following the battles of Marathon, Salamis, and Plataea (Cartlwright, 2016). How successful that alliance was is a matter of perspective and timeline. Image of the Delian League ((Gill, 2017). There is an old Latin phrase attributed to the Roman general Vegetius, if you want peace, prepare for war (Gill, 2017b), which has commonly been abbreviated to Peace through strength . Military Success From that perspective, the Delian League was extremely effective in dealing with, and deterring outside threats (for a time at least). As a direct result of their combined strength, the Delians defeated the Persia in a series of decisive battles, ending with the battle of Eurymedon in 466. According to Samons (1998), Kimon, Kallias and Peace with Persia, these victories lead directly to a peace treaty being signed by the Persian Emperor Xerxes prior to his death in 465 BCE (p. 129). This was the Golden Age of Athens, which continued until the beginning of the Peloponnesian wars. With the contentious nature of the city states (particularly Athens), war was inevitable, and when it happened, Greece was devastated, and left it ripe for external invasion. Ironically, such external threats were the original justification for the formation of the Delian League. In this regard it was an utter

Jewish American Literatue Jewish American Literature Duty Matters Throughout the course of the semester, the concept of duty has been a major theme in various novels, such as in Anzia Yezierska s Bread Givers, Cynthia Ozick s The Shawl, and Saul Bellow s Herzog. Although Yezierska, Ozick, and Bellow offer different circumstances, they all suggest a sense of responsibility from parent to child. I will show how the relationship between Sara and her father in Bread Givers differ from Rosa and the living incarnation of her daughter in The Shawl and Herzog s fight to gain custody of his daughter June in Herzog. They are all significant in understanding the parent child commitment in Jewish American families. According to these three novels, parents are obligated to their children parents must give emotional support as well as security to them. According to Norman Soloman s Judaism: A Very Short Introduction, the idea of duty is an act when one is obligated to carry out as well as a feeling of responsibility. In Judaism, a man s duties are defined by God s commandments. One must decree to the Torah, the first five books of the Bible as a guide to holiness. The complete theological idea of a man s role in life is comprised within the notion of mitzvah, which means duty . The term ḥovah, denotating obligation or duty is also used the same as mitzvah. To complete a divine commandment is to satisfy one s duty. In these three novels, duty is the chief reason for the actions of these characters.
  • 12. God The Son, The Incarnation And Attributes Of God When exploring the concept of God the Son , the incarnation and attributes of God as seen in Christ enter the picture. In order for human sin to be covered, a human sacrifice is all that could meet the requirement ordained by God, yet, they had to be sinless. Only the incarnate God could fulfill this role, exhibiting qualities of God Himself, such as selflessness, unconditional love, and purity. Another core trait was humbleness, although Jesusheld the highest status in all the world, which shone brightly in His ministry, as He also served the children of God. Paul captured the essence of Jesus as God and the reality of the incarnation in these verses, let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who being in the form of God...made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men (Philippians 2:5 7, NKJV). Johannine literature truly portrays Jesus as God, with the theme of His deity interwoven throughout numerous passages. In this respect, John s style differs from the other four gospels, as Bickel Jantz (1998) point out that the other three had been written prior to John s gospel, therefore, he wasn t interested in just retelling the events (p. 222). Since Jesus is the focal point of Scripture, a scholar of the New Testament with uncertainty concerning Jesus oneness with God will fail to perceive the crux of Christianity. Therefore, in spite of its importance, John does not focus on Jesus entrance into the

(Thoreau 853) Henry David Thoreau, in his writing, Resistance to Civil Government, defines both what a true man is and what a subject is. A man is someone who thinks with their conscience, and a subject is someone who respects and abides by the law. Thoreau wants all people to be men. To him a subject is nothing more than an inanimate object, because he sees it as having no moral conscience. He wants people to question their injustices. Thoreau pushes people to take a chance and disobey unjust laws. His main concepts and ideas revolve around the large aspect of civil disobedience which tie in with many different events in society today. On Saturday March 9th, 2013 a young teenager by the name of Kimani Gray was shot and killed by two police officers in Brooklyn, New York. Ketchum first became a town in 1899 and was named after a Delaware tribe member named James Ketchum. The town was originally located in the northeast part of Mayes County, close to James and his wife Elisabeth s home. However, in 1912 once the Kansas, OklahomaGulf Railroad was expanded from Kansas to Texas the town was relocated. Residents moved the town site to the southeastern part of Craig County sandwiched between Mayes County and Delaware County to be near the railroad. In 1803 part of the land that would someday become Ketchum was a small portion of the land that was acquired through the Louisiana Purchase. This land was unsettled and deemed only suitable for Indian relocation. In 1830 President Andrew Jackson signed The Indian Removal Act and all Indians West of the Mississippi were forced to move to the Indian Territory. Once the tribes arrived in Indian Territory they began to rebuild. The struggles to rebuild lasted many years and some tribes never flourish as they once did. Many of the effects of the forced relocation are still felt today. Because of the forced removal the Indians did not trust the federal government. When the civil war began in 1861 many of the Indians sided with the confederates due to the lack of trust they had with the federal government and many of the tribes fought alongside with the Confederate army. It is its natural manure. This quote from Thomas Jefferson exemplifies the cautious attitude the founding fathers had when they were creating the constitution. Having just won a war with a tyrant country, they knew the trouble that a very powerful government could cause. With America turning towards socialistic and capitalistic ideals, American citizens must maintain the right to keep and bear arms and therefore returning America to the democratic principles set forth by our founding fathers. The men who wrote the Bill of Rights, having just escaped a controlling country, wanted to make a final check on the government that they had just created (Richardson 2). They accomplished this with the Second Amendment which gives U.S. citizens the right to keep and bear arms. And more specifically, the supreme court has decided that people as individuals have the right to keep and bear arms rather than just a collective militia i.e. the coast guard (1). Also, the Fourteenth Amendment prevents any stage from making or enforcing an law that threatens the rights of a U.S. citizen (14th amendment 1). This means that state governments can not pass a law that infringes upon the Second Amendment (McDonald v. Chicago). People on the opposing side argue that relaxed gun laws cause more violence and more death ( Williams 1); however, Washington

For instance, they could create and destroy life, but these gods cared about their people as well. This code was the will of the gods and was administered by the state (Joshua J., 2014).The Hebrew s god was also severe, strict and righteous. Breaking a clause of the covenant would result in facing the anger of god. The polytheistic religion of the Sumerian contrasted with the monotheistic religion of the Hebrews. Lincoln was a political genius. His greatness shined when he brought the nation through its crisis. Democrats had hoped that the Kansas Nebraska Act would calm the passions of the slavery issue. Because this had an opposite effect, Lincoln not only saw this, but crafted a rhetorical concept of both the crisis and a pathway for getting through it. He made a way for the 13th amendment, getting rid of slavery in the U.S.. Near the closing of Coriolanus s retaliation, Coriolanus declares he will find a world elsewhere where his military prowess is needed. The same world where without Coriolanus the Romans will be annihilated by their enemies (Volscians) That won you without blows . By choosing to use eye level angle shots Coriolanus and the common people are perceived to be equals. In contrast Coriolanus states boldly with reassurance how the Romans will inevitably be drained from existence without his presence, creating a gap between him and the common people in terms of power and who holds importance. Coriolanus would rather hold power and be banished, as he values power and honour over powerlessness and being a flattering empathetic politician to the people. • 34. The Indidy Of Aeschylus As An Ancient Greek Tragedy Aeschylus was an ancient Greek tragedian. He is often described as the father of tragedy. Academics knowledge of the genre begins with his work, and understanding of earlier tragedies is largely based on his surviving plays. According to Aristotle, he expanded the number of characters in theater allowing conflict among them; characters had previously interacted only with the chorus. Only seven of Aeschylus s estimated seventy to ninety plays have survived, and there is a longstanding debate regarding his authorship of one of these plays, Prometheus Bound, which some believe his son Euphorion wrote. Fragments of some other plays have survived in quotes and more continue to be discovered on Egyptian papyrus, often giving us surprising insights into his work. He was probably the first dramatist to present plays as a trilogy; his Oresteia is the only ancient example of the form to have survived. At least one of his plays was influenced by the Persians second invasion of Greece (480 479 BC). This work, The Persians, is the only surviving classical Greek tragedy concerned with contemporary events ,and a useful source of information about its period. The significance of war in Ancient Greek culture was so great that Aeschylus epitaph commemorates his participation in the Greek victory at Marathon while making no mention of his success as a playwright. Despite this, Aeschylus work particularly the Oresteia is generally acclaimed by modern critics and scholars. Aeschylus was

The English text is not an exact translation of the Maori text (para.2). In the Maori version the word sovereignty was translated as kawanatanga (governance). New Zealand History (2011) indicates that Maori believed they had ceded a right of governance over their lands but retained the power to manage their own affairs. Maori had big expectations of the treaty, they hoped there would be a sharing of authority and the country would be protected from other foreign powers. Treaty of Waitangi Settlement Process (1999) points out that in reality, when New Zealand became a colony of the British the treaty was practically ignored, and there was expropriation of land and the culture of the native people was disregarded. Many British migrants came to New Zealand after the treaty was signed and the government took land from Maori for British settler families to live on. Maori had no power to manage their own land once the British government took over. Waitangi Tribunal (2011) states, ...the Government took far more land than it said it would take (para. 4). Maori lost much of the land that they had owned for years. After the Treaty of Waitangi, British (non Maori) become powerful throughout the country and Maori become powerless. Lucretius was devoted to the works of his teacher and renowned philosopher Epicurus, praising him as a prophetic or god like figure. His poetic prose uses a host of concrete examples to show validity in his beliefs. Lucretius effectively supports the Epicurean worldview that everything can be explained by material forces. Their work environment wasn t in the best shape as their factory yard was full of mud. The work involved cleaning, burling, inking, marking, and fine drawing cloth. These women could work long days at the mills in exchange for pay. This work became very popular and many women came to work at the mills from morning until night. However, they didn t receive an extraordinary amount of money for it. Josephine Baker claimed that the most positive aspect of her work was the fact that her earned money comes quickly, and though the work is intensive that she is free at the end of her work day, and there is access to lectures, schools, and libraries. She found it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Surely Lowell was very intensive, but it is a choice. Lowell offers a variety of benefits, like pay, school, and libraries. Lowell offered a new opportunity to women. It might also help a woman to be independent. Lowell gave a new role to women in American society. No longer were women banished to their homes, dependent on family or a husband. This opened new opportunities in women s lives because they could also partake in the lectures, schooling, and libraries permitted by the factory. However, they still participated in a male dominated society with probably not much hope of advancing in the factory setting. In the end, at least this movement would open doors for many women in the future. Being able to work in the factory puts their foot in the door for greater things. In the future women may make a stand for having their rights. Surely they deserve the right to an appropriate wage that wouldn t lessen every couple of years. This provided a greater chance for women to have other jobs in the future. Josephine Baker gives her opinion by submitting her thoughts to The Lowell Offering

The Power of the Second I heard the Lord say: Mike Pence will be My Daniel and Joseph in America, for there is power in My second in command! Donald Trump s landmark victory as the soon to be 45th president of the United States shakes the political paradigm as we know it, turning the world on its ear. Lance Wallnau, a refreshing Dallas based prophetic voice in the business world and the church, has been prophesying about Donald Trump for over a year in videos and posts all over social media to a growing audience of 200,000 or more. In his landmark and popular book released in September 2016 he describes Donald Trump as: God s Chaos candidate. This term is based on a word he received from the Lord: In a Charisma News article dated October 5, entitled Why I Believe Donald Trump is the Prophesied President, he said this: I heard the Lord say: Donald Trump is a wrecking ball to the spirit of political correctness. Wallnau is not alone in his belief; well known prophets including Dutch Sheets, Chuck Pierce, Kim Clement, Rick Joyner, and Elijah List founder Steve Shultz, as well as many other prophetic voices around the world felt it was a turning point in history for which Donald Trump was the chosen vessel God would use to change the direction of our nation. Now here we stand to make no bones about it; Donald Trump is president elect and will take office on January 20. Until then our divided country will try to heal and find its
  • 56. How Does Steinbeck Present Cain In The Bible In John Steinbeck s East of Eden, Adam s son Cal reflects the character of Cain in the Bible. Cain is born to Adam and Eve. When Cain and Abel present gifts to God, God favors Abel s gift. Cain grows jealous and kills his brother out of jealousy. Though similar to Cain, John Steinbeck uses the choices Cal makes to contrast his character to Cain in the Bible and to demonstrate that, despite being evil, people can choose their course in life. Cal is similar to the Biblical character Cain in many ways. Both Cal and Cain are born to men named Adam and both have brothers who are favored. In the Bible, God curses Cain, and makes him a restless wanderer on the earth (New Jerusalem Bible, Genesis. 4:14). In East of Eden, Cal wanders around at night,... If you knuckle down and pass examinations a year early, why, I ll help you through college (Steinbeck 476). Aron volunteers for the war in response to finding out about their mother and is killed in the war. Although Cal makes a couple of bad decisions, he also makes a lot of good choices to try to be a better person.
