1. Essays On Cooking
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Essays On Cooking" can be both a delectable and challenging
endeavor. The intricacies of this subject demand a delicate blend of culinary knowledge, literary
finesse, and a keen understanding of the art of essay writing.
To begin with, delving into the world of cooking essays necessitates a comprehensive
exploration of various culinary aspects. From the rich history of gastronomy to the nuanced
techniques of food preparation, the writer must navigate a diverse landscape of ingredients,
flavors, and cultural influences. This requires not only a passion for cooking but also a
commitment to thorough research to ensure the accuracy and depth of the content.
Moreover, the challenge lies in finding a balance between the technical aspects of cooking and
the art of storytelling. A successful essay on this topic should not merely list recipes or cooking
methods; it should weave a narrative that engages the reader, creating a sensory experience that
goes beyond the page. Achieving this requires a mastery of language, a creative flair, and the
ability to communicate the essence of culinary delights in a way that captivates the audience.
Furthermore, the essayist must grapple with the subjective nature of taste and personal
preferences. What one person finds exquisite, another may find mundane. Striking a chord with
a diverse readership means navigating the fine line between universal culinary truths and
individual tastes, making the task even more challenging.
In conclusion, tackling the theme of "Essays On Cooking" demands a unique blend of culinary
expertise, writing proficiency, and a deep appreciation for the diverse world of food. It is an art
form that requires the author to don the hat of both chef and wordsmith, creating a literary feast
that satiates the intellectual appetite of the reader.

2. Adolf Hiltler Shows Good Can be Manipulated into Evil
Is humanity inherently good or evil? I believe that humanity is inherently good
and really does believe in doing good and helping. But I believe that if that good is
put into the wrong hands or is treated the wrong way then that good can be
manipulated into the evil that we find today in our world. The political figure that I
have chosen to show how I express this belief is Adolf Hitler. Adolf Hitler was born
on the 20th of April in the year 1889, in the small Austrian town of Braunau. Both
of Hitlers parents came from very poor families, his father was the illegitimate son
of a housemaid, Alois Hitler was a intelligent and ambitious man and was very
much respected man at hitlers time. Alois was a senior customs official in lower
Austria. Klara Polzl, hitlers mom, left her home at the age of sixteen to live with
her cousin, Alois Hitler, in the house hold that the cousins lived in Alois started a
sexual relationship with a house maid, Franziska Matzelberger. Franziska saw
Klara as a potential rival who could get in the middle of her and Alois love and
insisted that she leave household which she did. In 1882 Franziska gave birth to a
son named Alois. When Anna Hitler(woman Alois first married) died in 1883, Alois
then married Franziska and two months after the wedding Franziska gave birth to
the second child, Angela. Soon after Franziska developed tuberculosis and Alois
told Klara to come back to the house to care for his two children to relive the stress on

Unpredictability is a source of spontaneous emotions such as suspense, excitement,
and angst. These mixture of feelings are simultaneous and conflicting which the
brain has difficulty processing. To avoid this conflict, people use logic to make
predictions about the future and create a sense of order. In Mark Haddon s The
Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, Christopher Boone s Asperger s
syndrome makes it more difficult for him to understand social cues and the meaning
of things. Christopher s lack of basic understanding is a major cause for additional
unpredictability in his life. In order to cope with the unpredictability, Christopher
resorts finding order through his use of logic. Christopher also detaches himself from
emotions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Emotions are the spark of inspiration to create goals and can often help achieve
them. At the same time rational thinking allows for the goal to be seen clearly and
can help achieve the goal. Intertwining emotion and logic allows for people to make
better decisions by weighing both sides to determine a form of action. Overall, this
combination increases empathy. When Christopher is kneeling beside the dog
Wellington, he thinks to himself, I like dogs. You always know what a dog is
thinking. It has four moods. Happy, sad, cross, and concentrating (Haddon 3 4).
Christopher often has a difficult time connecting with humans because of his social
drawbacks. In contrast, Christopher feels a strong emotional connection to Wellington
because a dog s emotions are basic and easy for Christopher to understand. Because of
Christopher s connection to Wellington, he decides to embark on a journey to solve
the mystery of who killed Wellington. In Siegelman s literary criticism, she speculates
that the book is presumably Christopher s attempt to create order out of uncertainty
by writing a mystery novel, under the aegis of Siobhan (Siegelman 50). Christopher s
emotional attachment to the dog drives him to solve the unpredictable. Throughout
the case, Christopher uses his logic to guide him. The combination of emotion and
logic allow him
4. How to Succeed in College Essay
How to Succeed in College
College 101 has been a very informative class. It has taught me a lot about college
and the changes you have to make while attending college. I learned a lot about
certain programs that the school offers, I knew nothing about these programs before I
took this class and I probably never would have known anything about them if I never
would have taken this class. In this class I have learned about three important
concepts that can be very useful throughout my college years to come. I think time
management, determining values and balancing lifestyles are the three most important
concepts you need to help you succeed in college.
I think planning a day to day schedule of the things you have to do is very ... Show

Some people value education and material things while others value religion and
spirituality. You have to identify the values that are going to make you happy
because if you don t you may try to accomplish things to make other people happy.
Having values helps you to determine where you want to go in life and the
decisions you make. If you value something you are pretty much going to base
every thing you do around that. Having values makes you a unique person because
it has a big impact on the choices you make and the lifestyle you live. One thing
you have to value is college because if you don t value it you won t succeed in it
because you don t care what you do and you won t achieve anything.
Balancing your lifestyle while in college is very difficult because if you have a lot
on your plate like children or other important responsibilities it s hard to balance
them all and attend college. I think this has a lot to do with time management
because when making a schedule you have to put your family or other
responsibilities in that schedule and make time for everything. Some people work
full time and go to school full time and if you have a lot of things to deal with you
will burn out from the stress that such a pace imposes on your mind and body. If you
work less and eliminate some things than you will have more time while in college.
In conclusion I really have learned a lot in this class and really has helped me to
manage my time better

While our team was composed of completely different preference types (as classified
by the Myers Briggs Type Indicator), we believe that such varying opinions led to our
group s success in the Subarctic Survival Simulation. In fact, our group boasted the
highest team percentage change in the activity 43 percent. The team percentage
change represents the improvements made in the ranking of survival tools through
our team s discussion from our individual assessments. The change shows how the
group s gain score (24.4) relates to the average individual score (56.4). Additionally,
our gain score was the highest in the class, further showing the strengths of our

Obviously in jest, the comment gave the team pause to get back on track. Our use
of humor kept C type conflicts from becoming A type conflicts. We must keep in
mind, though, that our group s use of humor was so effective because it was used
appropriately we were able to clear our heads of the task momentarily, but not to
the point of ineffectiveness. As we learned in discussion, what we perceived to be
one of our greatest strengths was also one of our greatest weaknesses. Deborah
Ancona et al. reference the idea of psychological safety in their piece, Team Process
Observation Guide . The idea of psychological safety states that with comfortability
with other team members, individuals are more likely to take risks in proposing ideas
(Ancona et al. M5 13). To a fault, all team members enjoyed working with one
another in this activity. Even with such comfortability, there were very few polarizing
or risky suggestions. More often than not, members proposed modifications of one
another s ideas. For instance, instead of completely striking down the importance of
the snowshoes, a member argued that ranking the flashlight higher might be useful
for survival. Another problem that occurred during the discussion was a lack of
concentration. At times, the discussion moved too quickly from one subject to another.
6. The Definition Of Tradition In Federico Garcia Lorca s...
The definition of tradition is an inherited, established, or customary pattern of
thought, action, or behavior ( Tradition ). Tradition is the quiet force that lies
behind people s choices in society. Whether they know it or not, they tend to follow
certain traditions unquestionably. As stated in its definition, tradition can be
inherited. The influence of inherited tradition can be seen Federico Garcia Lorca s
Blood Wedding. This play is set in Spain during the 1920 s. It follows the story of
an unhappy bride at her wedding, where her mysterious past lover showing up at
the festivities. When the bride and her past lover run away together, her husband,
Bridegroom, follows. This all culminates to a bloody ending, as the play is aptly
named. Through an analysis of the characters actions in Blood Wedding, it
becomes clear that when tradition is unquestionably followed, it has a powerful
negative influence on an individual s choices. It can be seen that the confining
bonds of tradition cause Bride and Leonardo to run away together, only to be
thwarted. After they escape, Leonardo confronts Bride after she tries to deny her
part in their escape, asking Who led the way down the stairs? (Lorca 58). After she
admits it was her, Leonardo asks a follow up question, Who put a new bridle on the
horse? (Lorca 58). Bride then again answers that it was her. It is clear that Bride is
the one who initiated the escape from the wedding as she confirms that she was
the one who led Leonardo away. This shows just how desperate Bride is to be free
of the suffocating bonds of tradition. She does not want a future with Bridegroom,
she only wishes to follow her heart, which is with Leonardo. The bride s heart is
truly with Leonardo, and tradition has prevented her from having the life that she
really wants. The bride and Leonardo try to break tradition, only to meet a grim
fate. The fate of Leonardo is confirmed by First Girl who is standing in the
doorway, after the climax of the story when she says, The lover is speechless./ The
groom is red./ On the bank if the river/ I saw them lying (64). In this line of
dialogue, it becomes clear that tradition is strong within this society, and it is
impossible to escape. Leonardo

Relevance of adaptive selling for marketing
Since the 1970s, researchers are trying to understand the various determinants,
antecedents and consequences of adaptive selling. It all began with the perception of
personal selling as a dyadic sales process (Spiro 1976). This process is determined by
a continuous reflection and consideration of the progress ... Show more content on

In 1976 Spiro, Perreault and Reynolds described the sales interaction as a process
that is governed by the buyer and the salesman. If their expectations and needs differ,
the seller has to revise his sales objectives and strategy in order to adapt to the
respective situation. In 1978, Weitz presented the ISTEA model, introducing a so
called adjustment stage, giving the salesperson the possibility to alter his way to
communicate the marketing message several times during the sales interaction based
on his evaluation of the customer s reaction. Building on this insights, Weitz, Sujan
and Sujan defined adaptive selling as the altering of sales behaviors during customer
interaction or across customer reactions based on perceived information about the
nature of the selling situation (1986, p. 175). Thus, a salesman who varies his sales
presentation regularly engages highly in adaptive selling. A salesman that, on the
contrary, uses the same sales presentation all the time shows no engagement.
2.2 Adaptive selling confidence and adaptive selling behaviour
The ADAPTS scale defined by Spiro and Weitz was the first scale determined to
measure the predisposition of salespeople to use adaptive selling. Over the course of
time, various scientists and scholars followed Spiro s and Weitz call to continue
research on this issue. Thereby,
10. Carthage In Greek And Roman Empires
In ancient history when empires were emerging, it seemed like if a nation wanted to
become the world s superpower, they would have to have knowledge of who else
was rivalling their strength. Rome had done a good job conquering and colonizing
areas that are now known as southern Italy but began to want power outside the
country (Morey, 1901). Carthage, which is modern day Tunisia, also started amassing
power and expanding and was considered the prominent force on the western
Mediterranean (Carthage, n.d.). Carthage and Rome were seen as nearly equal forces
but their strengths were very different from one another (Morey, 1901). It was the
power struggle between these two nations that led to the development of Rome s navy.

slave named Harriet Bailey, and his father he believes to be a white man possibly

beating of his Aunt Hester. Every now and the Frederick talks about his new
slaveholders. He works for Colonel Edward Lloyd who was an unkind master that
would beat slaves if he spoke the truth of their living situation. Here we Frederick
reveals that killing a slave is not a crime. Therefore it is a common occurrence that
slaves are whipped and beaten to death. Around the age of eight we move to

12. Analysis Of Centennial Park Pond System
1. Introduction and objectives
Centennial Park has the largest freshwater wetland system in inner metropolitan
area of Sydney. Its ponds cover approximately 26 ha of area connected in a water
flow system that acts as detention basin for stormwater drainage during flood events
(Centennial Parklands, ponds, 2016). Moreover, these ponds provided the water as
the Sydney s main source of drinking water from 1837. The park provides an open
area for families and kids to enjoy picnics and therefore the pond is required to
maintain its water quality and sustainable for the environment.
The report reviews the Centennial Park pond system; it acts as a performance around
the outskirts of the flood retention basin, and the report also reviews regarding full
flood conservation and water quality norm to find a potential problem in the system
and is coming up with improvements.
2. Background
Flooding History: Historical records show that there were several flooding within the
catchment November 1984, January1991. For instance, driver Avenue was road
flooded (Michael Wyk , 2016). Water Pollution: From previous engineering reports,
from early mid1990s, it was estimated that blue green algal blooms occurred in most
of the ponds in the Centennial Park over several years (Mal Brown, 2012).Due to the
accumulation of the nutrients in the Musgrave Pond from the storm water inflow, the
nutrient enriched the water in the pond (Mal Brown, 2012).

Social entrepreneurship is gaining such strong interest in nonprofit world because of
the economic challenges that have plagued this sector with cuts in philanthropic and
government funding. According to Nash (2010) not only are there cuts, there are

capitalistic America, and the ease of nonprofits to embrace this concept; evidenced
by their ability to sell their once free services, to meet the demands of the consumer.
According to the IRS (2010) nonprofits have increased their selling power on

Introduction: The mitochondria is a double membrane organelle that is found in
all eukaryotic organisms. There is some evidence that proves some eukaryotes
lack mitochondria, but there is no true evidence about complete lack of
mitochondria in the organisms. Mitochondria is known as a power house of the
living body cell. They store energy in the cell and release it as needed. Every
structure in Mitochondria have their own specific roles which helps in storing
energy (See Figure 1 for details). Evidence shows that mitochondria evolved from
primitive bacteria. Is it really evolved from primary bacteria or were they the new
adaptation in the plant and animal body? In this paper we are going to see how
Mitochondrion have been evolved in different species and what methods have been
used to prove that evolution. There is still debate between scientists about whether
mitochondrion really evolved from bacteria or if it was present in the cells before
bacteria were present. Yung et al. [1] says that Mitochondria s cytochromes c (which
is a mitochondrial intermembrane protein that is loosely attached to the inner
membrane of mitochondrial membrane) is relatively close to the bacterial medium
subunit in sequence of cytochrome. However,
18. The Four Families of the Filovirus Ebola
The filovirus Ebola consists of 4 families: Marburg, Ebola Zaire, Ebola Sudan, and
Ebola Reston. It is a rather simple virus in structure; each contain a single strand
RNA strand and 7 different proteins, 3 which are only slightly understood and 4 that
are completely unknown. The virus harms the immune system like the HIV virus, but
Ebolacauses an explosive attack. The virus is associated with the measles and
mumps family, pneumonia viruses, parainfluenza viruses which include colds, and
respiratory system related viruses. Unlike common viruses which are ball shaped,
Ebola s shape represents that similar to a shepherd s crook, a long snake like thread
that looks like a worm. Because the Ebola virus has a distinct structure, it has been
classified as a thread virus in its own family of viruses, the filoviruses.

wrapped in looks similar to donuts. In this way, for some time, Marburg was called
stretched rabies, its worm like shapes stretched out unlike the rabies virus which is

CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
Background of the Problem
With the introduction of the Open Skies program and the continuation of
globalization, U.S. airlines are facing stiffer competition. As the possibility of
cabotage
looms in the future, American passengers may have more opportunities to fly foreign
carriers both at home and abroad. Open Skies operations have commenced on
transatlantic and intra EU routes, meaning that choice of carrier has expanded for U.S.
air travelers abroad. EU authorities challenenged US authorities for the right to
operate
EU carriers within the U.S. domestic market, as well as the right to own larger shares
of
American carriers, by 2010. As of this writing, the U.S. has not recipricated these air

Base.
Statement of the Problem
As of 4 May 2012, the United States has entered into Open Skies agreements with
105 countries (Open Skies Partners, 2012). United States based airlines now have
more
competition than in the past and need a strategic plan to remain competitive. As a
part of
this plan, the airlines will need to possess an understanding of how consumer

U.S.
airlines to foreign carriers in a domestic Open Sky market, as well as foreign markets.
Understanding which factors affect the customer s decision the most, and how U.S.
customers view foreign airlines, will be critical in understanding the shift in demand
resulting from increased foreign ownership and foreign airline access.
Significance of the Problem
If U.S. airlines do not understand the perceptions of foreign and foreign owned
airlines, they stand to lose market share and revenue in an Open Sky market. The
International Trade Administration and the State Department claim that the estimated
current economic value of the US EU open skies agreement is worth $12 billion

author of the affidavit, Adnan had spoken to her at library when he was supposedly

that Adnan is innocent, Quote, We left around 2:40, unquote. Remember, Hae is

time with Asia at the library, being there during the frame of time in which Hae s

whether or not the infants who were bottle fed turned out to be heavier in weight than
those who were breast fed. In order to conduct such a study twenty one mothers had
signed up for the testing of their infants. Within the study the mothers feed their
infants the normal ways they would feed them at home and then the ways the
researchers had wanted them to feed them. With the results that the researchers got
back from the study they were able to calculate that the infants intake and rate of
feeding could account for the obesity within the infants.

23. Who Owns the Power to Control Communication
Some theorists seem to suggest that the power to control communication is held by
the producers of messages whereas other theorists argue that the power to control
interpretations of texts are held by the consumers of culture operating within specific
cultural contexts. Which of these positions is true? Why?
It can be agreed to a large extent that the power to control interpretations of texts are
held by the consumers of culture operating within specific cultural contexts.
However, this is not to refute completely that producers of messages hold some power
to control communication. Previous studies of the theories of communication provide
the set of assumptions that the process of communication is actually one way. On the

345). He felt that while encoders, or the producers of texts, played an important role
in communication, decoders, also known as the consumers who deduce the meaning
of the texts, were marginally more prevailing. The encoding phase is where a
common set of codes are used to put together a message but this phase takes note of
the audience as both source and receiver of the message. An example would be the
mindset of a journalist whose main purpose of producing an article is to provide the
reader with something they desire to read. This implies that the consumers of texts
heavily influence the producers into developing texts with messages that the reader
wants to derive from them.
Another reason why the consumers of texts hold power over the producers is simply
the copious amount of texts that are made available to them. This increase in the
choice between media and within media has led to development of narrowcasting and
niche audiences. With the advent of mass consumerism and technology, the
production of texts have skyrocketed, leaving the audience spoilt for choice.
Raymond Bauer (1964) placed an emphasis on choice that was anchored in and
ensured by an independent, even obstinate, audience. The active individual was a
modern citizen consumer patrolling the periphery of his or her consciousness with a
vigilant consumerism (Biocca, n.d.). Bauer (1964) felt that the consumers could not

Due to the concept that I choose, I gained a better understanding on how much
influence the executive branch has over the people. The reason why secondary

branch is entrusted with implementing the laws that are passed from the national to
federal level, and if it was not for the governor of California being in sync with the
people. Any proposed law that was passed from the national level would ve not

started from mere curiosity to understanding the electrons, protons and neutrons.
The knowledge gained over the span of 200 years was so vast that the humankind
has evolved usage of nuclear energy from being beneficial to the humankind to
becoming weapons of mass destruction. It has left the world leaders bewildered as
to whether these advancements in development of nuclear weapons is for welfare

look at the effect of the technology, and the possible ways that someone could

The only area in which the government gets involved in privacy collection is to
enforce fair trade agreements, and practices that directly violate the terms of use
agreement that exists between an end users and a company or group (Solove and
Hartzog 585). In the European Union, the standards for privacy is vaguely worded,
and only protects from the transmission of data to countries outside the EU (Sipior
et al. 6) The major issue with this practice is many forms of gathering data, can
legally be done so long as the end user has been informed of this practice, and has
agreed to it (Warner 18). Most users however are not going to spend the time to
actually read what they are agreeing to, and therefor will likely agree to something
that they would actually object to (Warner 14). Obviously, in an ideal world, people
would read everything that they are agreeing to, but the fact of the matter is that
people will not. Knowing this, there is an obvious legal loophole that anyone
wishing to do mine and profit from data gathered can easily exploit. Since the laws
are not currently able to protect people from these practices, the ethical responsibility
lies directly on the companies and programmers that write the software. These kinds

Between 1880 and 1920 more than 4.1 million Italians were recorded as entering the
United States (Daniels, p. 188). The Italian immigrants of post 1880 were different
from other immigrant groups by these topics of religion, labor, family orientation,
politics, and education. The 1880s brought a change not only in the amount of Italian
immigrants but also the characteristic of them as a group. This group of immigrants
was incredibly male dominated, in comparison to the other immigrants of this time,
most settling in New York and Chicago. The living conditions that these Italians
encountered were not pleasant. It was common for them to live in very crowded four
bedroom apartments. Compared to other immigrants, they had one of the worsts...

The padrone system faded out as family networks grew. The relationships of their
family were essentially the only connection they had. They did not rely on politics
or get involved in public office. They tended to only associate with family or
fellow Italians in the area. For this reason, mafias emerged in America because of
the strong devotion to family and eventually family business. The Italians were
mostly Catholic with the belief that priests were agents of the pope and bishops
(Daniels, p. 197). As more Italians arrived, they began to form distinct enclaves in
neighborhoods first settled by earlier immigrants. Interestingly the issue of diet
among immigrant workers received attention during this time. Italian Laborers,
Padrones, and Pernicious Pasta reads, In the process, Italian foods were redefined
as a problem for the fitness, health, and future prosperity of the Italian worker and
therefore a threat to workplace efficiency and productivity (Slideshow 7: Additional
Links). The padrone system became concerned with the foods their workers ate
because it could affect the way they worked and essentially the way the padroni was
paid. In 1890, Jacob Riis, a Danish immigrant and police reporter published How the
Other Half Lives where he wrote about a mixed impression from the Italian
immigrants in New York City. In the excerpt regarding Italians, Riis judged them on

29. Scavengers In The Military
Humankind has been waging war since the first sword was crafted by the
warmongering tribes that sought to overthrow each other, and death upon the
battlefield has become a daily routine. A boy grows up, bears the mantle of soldier,
and dies for a cause that not even he can fully understand. Meanwhile, the world
prepares for the inevitable with rising conflicts, and radical militants striving to
bring about a world that follows solely their beliefs. Ask yourself this: are our
soldiers not to be protected from needless casualties at all costs? Keeping in mind this
question, we must now refer to something that humanity chooses to hide, like a secret
that could taint our reputation forever. I am referring to the use of mercenaries and

The use of mercenaries dates back to medieval ages, where kings and queens
frequently hired them to fight battles in their name, and handle revolts and
rebellions. However, the industry of hired soldiers was driven underground, and
became nothing more than a whisper on the tongues of those who sought to use
them for small conflicts and issues. Ironically, the development of drones and high
tech weaponry has caused a revolution in the world of soldiers of fortune, and their
presence in the battlefield is not unheard of in these violent times. So, knowing
that they re back, why haven t we employed them globally? Well, the answer is that
it s simply hard to trust these combatants; after all, mercenaries have a notorious
history of abandoning their original contractors for a higher bidder. Furthermore,
having to keep them in check is a hassle; the US typically prefers for these
corporations to abide by a ruleset on what they can and cannot use during armed
conflicts. The issue with this is that we would be handicapping our own soldiers,
and the risk of letting them use banned military equipment is simply too much.
Don t be mistaken, however; these armed mercenaries are far from weak, and they
typically employ the best of the best. They also hold possession over numerous
weapons, ranging from M4 carbines to armored vehicles that have been sold by
various countries. To restate, the standard PMS is too costly, and too risky to
deploy over our own armed forces, despite having a solid foothold in the war
economy.

Throughout the story, The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, uses of propaganda are
displayed. Sinclair applies numerous hyperboles and unrealistic ideas/scenarios to his
novel. This can be proven through the Calamities that befall on Jurgis and his
immigrant family. Sinclair describes the conditions of the family as well as their
workplaces. His true goal was to display the hardships of immigrants caused by
politics, economics, and industry. Therefore, his exaggeration use is applied to gain
the attention of the public through the use of propaganda. This was an attempt to

Abstract: The experiment s goal was to study the effects of temperature and the rate of
breakdown of starch by fungal and bacterial amylase. In order to conduct this
experiment four samples were taken from both specimen and placed in four
different temperatures. After a period of time a portion of the sample was taken
and added to a portion of starch which was then mixed with iodine. Iodine reacts
with starch to produce a change in color in the iodine from a brown to a dark purple.
This serves as a method of measuring the breakdown of the starch by the amylase by
comparing the color of iodine when mixed with starch and comparing it with the
added amylase. It was also noted that because both specimen reacted differently with
the temperature change, it was concluded that thy had differing optimal temperatures
(Bacillus licheniformis reacting with an optimal temperature of 55 degrees Celsius
while Aspergillus oryzae reacted optimally with a temperature of 25 degrees
Celsius). In order to conduct the experiment, samples from both specimens were
taken and placed in four test tubes all with a different temperature. Iodine was then
taken and placed into a spot plate labeled with the type of amylase and corresponding
33. Sibling Rivalry May Refer To The Kind Of Competition,
Rivalry
Sibling rivalry may refer to the kind of competition, rivalry or rifts that occur amid
brothers and sisters. It has increasingly proven to be an issue to closely all parents
who have more than one child. Whereas some scholars argue that the rivalry begin
immediately after a second child gets born, others hold that it may as well begin
before this, continuing as the children grow, having to contest for every property like
the toys they play with and even attention from their parents and friends (Volling,
Kennedy and Jackey 387). Whereas many siblings find it lucky enough to be friendly
with their brothers and sisters, it is common that there occur fights between them.
Additionally, it is something usual that they often swing back and forth... Show more

Therefore, as a consequence of the natural stages of development that children
undergo, they are likely to experience rivalry among them.
Kids, just as adults, have their individual temperaments dictate how they relate to
others, including their siblings. Among such discrete natures, including their moods,
adaptability, disposition and uniqueness in personalities. All these factors contribute
to the way they are capable of getting along with one another with siblings of almost
the same age or even other family members. For instance, in a case where one child
easily gets rattled or has high anxiousness levels while the other one is laid back
and friendly, they might not easily get along with one another because one always
feel irritated by the other s behaviors. On the same note, they might as well be of the
same character of quickly getting annoyed. Children, unlike adults readily confront
one another. Consequently, in a case where both the siblings are of moods and
personalities that easily get irritated and angered; they occasionally get involved in
fights.
Another issue that has raised the rivalry among siblings lies with the presence of
those children with special needs. It has long emerged that siblings of toddlers found
themselves with special needs because of the lost

Mary Deal has created word images so vivid it is almost like watching a movie. She

An archaeological student has the mystical ability to communicate with the ancient

1. Give the title, author, genre, and date of original publication.
Freakonomics is the title of this nonfiction book; it was written by Steven D. Levitt
and Stephen J. Dubner. On April 12, 2005, by HarperCollins.
2. What is author s purpose for writing the book? Write a paragraph summarizing the
main argument or purpose.
In this unique book, economist Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner, an award
winning author and journalist team up to create a powerful and freakish work that
challenges the typical rules of economics. Economics is above all a science of
measurement. It comprises an extraordinarily powerful and flexible set of tools
that can reliably assess a thicket of information to determine the effect of any one
factor, or even the whole effect. That s what the economy is, after all: a thicket of
information about jobs and real estate and banking and investment. But the tools of
economics can be just as easily applied to subjects that are more well, more
interesting. (Dubner, Levitt 11). That is exactly what this book is all about, not just
the value of money but the way resources are managed and how different factors
affect one another. In Freakonomics, Levitt and Dubner collaborate to explore the
hidden side of everything (Dubner, Levitt 1). Through this writing, the two men
evaluate everyday situations in life and ask questions that have not yet

T 00586085, University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service. Public
service is the passion of an individual or a community to contribute positive work
with the goal of developing a sustainable and meaningful service. An active public
service community uses available resources and their expertise of the human
resources to create a lasting impact by identifying issues and creating solutions for
single or multiple communities according to their apparent needs. Public service
may be implemented physically, financially or by compensation with the intent of
an individual but rather the positive impact that it can have on society as a whole.
In Public service for one to come up with a positive and lasting impact on the
community one has to have a passion or commitment to whatever he/she does, for
instance an example of a traffic police officer in Uganda who stands in the
scorching sun from morning to sunset not only to fulfill his obligation but also to
ensure that the people on the road have got to move or vehicles to move and the
rate of accident reduced. In the reading of People s Lawyers, Crusaders for Justice

passion that this lawyer had for Public service and his work where he took two
weeks off from his law practice to assist Houston with the brief. His passion was

38. God s Love For Mankind
A wise man once said, Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not
boast, it is not proud (1 Corinthians 13:4). Love is one of the many attributes of
God and His creation. Through all of the various types of love in this world, God s
love is the most abundant. His love is cast over every being on earth. This specific
love, Divine Love, can be coupled with charity.. These two attributes contribute to
Gods love for mankind, mankind s love for God, and mankind s love for one
another. God s love for mankind is portrayed by the sacrifice of his son on the cross
for our sins. Through the suffering and death of his son, we have the hope of eternal

For example, believing in Him as the Triune God, praying, and essentially love
fellow humans. The Divine Servant is a key symbol when talking about loving
others. To follow in jesus footsteps and to help the homeless, blind, weak, lame,
and crippled is truly love. In my personal opinion I believe many Christians flaunt
this statue and talk the talk, but do not walk the walk. Although some may walk
the walk, they do it with bad intentions in their heart. They may be servicing a
human who is less fortunate just for publicity or praise. In today s society people
are indulged in social media and cell phones which makes it extremely easy for one
to boast about the service he/she did. So, many may fall short in loving humans,
therefore fall short in loving God. In this situation, a saying near and dear to my
heart The unseen is eternal (I m sorry for taking a biblical sentence out of context)
comes to mind. I believe this saying is relevant because acts of kindness and love
that are unseen by others are longer lasting than acts performed in front of others
with faulty motives. Others on this earth may not be able to tell between good and
bad intentions, but God can. Ultimately, that is who we will all answer to one day.
For God knows us better than we know ourselves. This lack of love for fellow

relates back to the demons. Unfortunately, this may be the deciding factor

Specifically, Title 23, Article 22 of the California Code of Regulations aims to
monitor the overall distribution and usage of water in California. In January and
April of 2014, Governor Jerry Brown issued two Executive Orders which put
California in an official state of emergency due to its inability to effectively meet the
water demand throughout the state. The Executive Orders also directed the State
Water Resource Control Board to implement emergency drought regulations by
adding additional the following sections to Title 23: в—ЏSection 863 discusses the
background information leading up to the issuance of this additional section.
в—ЏSection 864 prohibits the usage of potable water for domestic activities such as:

40. Decarbonize Urban Areas
If we are going to decarbonise our cities and regions, we need to promote high
density urban development. Increasing density reduces the size of houses and overall
its consumption of resources (Rauland and Newman 2011). The authors further
contend, therefore that increasing density has numerous other benefits, including
enabling better public transport infrastructure such as light rail and trains as well as
increasing the walkability of cities, all of which will significantly reduce transport
emissions ( Rauland and Newman p. 6. 2011). Adding density to transform cities can
also improve quality of life by offering more local amenities and better lifestyles (
Rauland and Newman 2011). The Cockburn Town Centre development is perfect
example.
41. Pros And Cons Of Birth Control
traception
Contraception is used to prevent pregnancy. The use of condoms can prevent
pregnancy and protect against STDs. Other protective barriers, such as dental dams,
are recommended for oral sex and analingus. Some sexually transmitted infections,
such as genital warts and genital herpes can be spread through skin to skin contact,
not just penetrative sex. For those in committed relationships who seek only to
prevent pregnancy, there are many forms of birth control, and a healthcare provider
can discuss options and detail what is the ideal form of birth control. There is no
single universal method that works for everyone.
According to Michael McGee, MEd, a certified sexual health educator and adjunct
professor at Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey, sexual health is
intimately related to reproduction. Birth control choices to prevent pregnancy and the
steps couples need to take to have a healthy pregnancy are all aspects of sexual health.
Some factors a qualified physician will take into consideration when discussing
options are:
Patient s sexual activity
Previously used birth control methods
Existing medical conditions
Lifestyle and likelihood of taking a daily pill on schedule
Use of tobacco products
Existence of menstrual migraines
Menstrual flow
Personal and family history of blood clots
Existence or history of breast cancer

There are multiple theories in relation to the prevention of war and even theories
to support why there are wars. War is can be caused by the opposing interests and
capabilities more specifically socio cultural difference and also similarities
between the two parties. Significant changes in the balance of power that can be
caused by individual perception and expectations. Wars have been started over the
simplest and mediocre things such as The War of the Golden Stool (1900) fought
of the disrespect of a golden stool. Theories help to identify reasons behind even
the simplest wars. On April 11th, 1870 Lord Muncaster of Britain is kidnapped by
pirates led by a man Takos Arvanitakis. Takos Arvanitakis and his men were very
experienced in kidnapping and used these skills in creating an income for several
years. The capture of Lord Muncaster along with other English tourist created
problems between England and Greece, almost leading to war. After receiving the
ransom note from Takos and his pirates, King George of Greece refused and rather
offered him himself in exchange for the hostages in an attempt to deter or even
appease the English government. Before any negotiations could be completed a
fight started between the pirates and Greek troops resulting in the death of Lord
Muncaster. This incident forced the hand of England, almost declaring war.
However with Russia a great power at the time siding with Greece, the crisis was

his protest songs in them. His protest son What are you fighting for was a bit
different than Seeger s song Bring em Home . Seeger s protest song was fairly
short and every other line had the title of the song in it. Ochs song was a bit

The Los Angeles Union Station Los Angeles Union Station began as a thought in
the early1900 s but it was not until 1933 that construction began based upon the
plans of Parkinson and Parkinson, a father and son team. With the collaborative
efforts of many designers, such as Herman Sachs and Warren Hoak, construction
was completed in 1939. The only major structural changes made since then have
been the massive semi dome on the east side, and an office complex that was
added in the 1990 s. The elements used for a building must blend together or the
design will not seem unified and LAUS is an iconic and almost seamless cultural
blend of old style Spanish Colonial Revival, which includes elements of
Romanesque Revival as well as Moorish Revival and Southwestern elements with
the newest style of the period known as Art Deco Modern Streamline. Constructed
at the tail end of the glamour and opulence associated with the railway romanticist
era, it has been credited by many as the last great train station ever built, and it may
also be the only one built during the height of the art deco era (Solomon 2015 p 34

48. A Brief Biography of Clara Barton
I may be compelled to face danger, but never fear it, and while our soldiers can
stand and fight, I can stand and feed and nurse them, Clara Barton once said. She
was always quick to help others, and put their lives before her own. She wasn t
very talkative, but she was very generous. Barton was named The Angel of The
Battlefield she got this name while she was considering having an escort and months
after he has been her escort that s what she got named. Clara would make sure she
gave the soldiers the correct care they needed. Clara Bartonchanged the health for
many. Barton benefited in changing others health, prior to her helping and nursing
her brother, when Clara was 11 years old, after his accident for two years. Clara did
not attend school for two years, that way she could constantly be there for her
brother. She learned to dispense all of his medicine, even the Great, loathsome
crawling leeches. Finally Barton s parents hired a steam doctor She would always put
his and anyone else s health before her own. She once said The door that nobody else
will go in at, seems always to open widely for me.
Barton was always sure to help the soldiers be as healthy as she could possibly make
them. She made a donation and people would donate food and games to the
soldiers. Barton would take food to where the soldiers would be. There is no food left
in its track for a rabbit to eat, and, indeed, no rabbit to eat it, if there were, Clara
Barton stated. If a

52. The Elder Sister By William Bouguereau s The Elder Sister
This essay reviews the painting by William Bouguereau s The Elder Sister. It
reviews the elements of design and principles practiced in the artwork. This essay
assesses the correct use of the elements and the influence that they have on the
entire perception of the painting. The artist has applied an amazing background as
well as perfect balance of the piece. The elder sister s arm balances with her leg, the
baby s foot balances with older sisters foot, the clouds balance with the bushes. This
explains the initial acclaim of this painting. Upon viewing the picture one gets a
feeling that the artist meant to depict a young girl who is captivated by her little
sibling. This is clearfrom the use of the angelic almost celestial background that
unquestionably creates an affectionate mood. The enchanting smile across the young
girl s face communicates the elder sisters bliss. The painterhas accomplished quite a
bit with the use of the fundamentals in this painting.
The heavenly portrayal of the background and foreground shows a flawless use of
space. The distance between the foreground and background was well selected for
this piece. This is die to the fact that the two children are not close enough to
exaggerate the way they look but they are also not too far away. The distance
covered in the background communicates a message of clarity and relaxation that is
evident in the children s faces. Two dimensional portrayal of the painting appears to
fit the calculated purpose. The
53. Research Note On Distressed Debt
Research Note on Distressed Debt
Distressed securities are securities of companies or government that are experiencing
distress (either in financial or operational terms), default, or even bankruptcy. In case
of debt, this is called distressed debt. Investing in distressed debt can result in big
returns, but the downside is that when a company goes completely bankrupt, the
value of your securities can go to zero.
Distressed debt sells at a very low percentage of par value, for example 30 cents on
the dollar. This percentage indicates that you can buy debt that is worth 1$ at
maturity for 30 cents, which seems very attractive but there is of course a reason that
it is only worth 30 cents on the dollar. If the distressed company emerges as ... Show

This limits the scope of potential investors to sophisticated individual investors, hedge
funds, private equity firms, vulture funds, and certain investment banks. The majority
of distressed debt is bought by these institutional investors because they have the
resources, expertise, and sophisticated risk management systems to assess the risk of
these debt securities.
There are various ways investors can invest in distressed debt. The easiest way is to
buy the distressed debt in the bond market. Because most mutual funds are not
allowed to invest in distressed debt, there is ample supply of debt available shortly
after a firm defaults. The second way is to buy distressed debt directly from a
mutual fund, since they have to sell according to their mandate. These transactions
are generally limited to institutional investors since large quantities of debt, and
therefore large quantities of cash, exchange hands. The third and final options is to
buy directly into the distressed firm. This involves working directly with the
company to extend its credit, either in the form of bonds or a revolving line of
credit. Distressed companies usually need significant amounts of cash for a
turnaround, so it is common for a consortium of investment banks and hedge funds to
provide this cash to avoid overexposure to one

single hung single leaf swing door is the most commonly used between rooms and
corridors. The advantages of having a single swing door is that they are very
strong and stable, making it easier for maintenance. In addition they have weather
proof qualities which allows it to possess an anti rust quality. However, the short
back of having a single hung single leaf swing wall are it is inflexible as compared
to a double swing door, as it can only be open from one way. It also cause
inconvenient to the users as they have to open the door manually. Although it is
weather resistance, they are prone to water stain due to its material used.
Furthermore, they took up larger amount of space as compared to other door options.

55. Sources of Pollution and Their Effect
Air pollution used to be a natural occurrence that had no major effects on the Earth s
inhabitants. Such instances were caused by forest fires, emission from the Earth, and
volcanoes. It was not until humans discovered how to start and control fire that we
started over polluting the planet. For many years cities have struggled through thick
smogdue to dense smoke emissions. Officials, like in Los Angeles, have tried to adopt
multiple measures to combat the smog but the city, and the rest of the world,
continued to boom in industry. Thus, overwhelming the air pollutionreforms the city
tried to enforce. However, it was not until about seventy one years ago during the
height of World War Two, when the dire consequences of air pollution
began to
dramatically increase. Instead of a foreign enemy attacking the city of Los Angeles,
it was a domestic one, smog. On July 26, 1943 downtown Los Angeles was covered
in smoke and fumes. The smog was extreme to the extent that it cut off visibility of
three blocks. This spontaneous gas attack came about in the middle of a heat wave.
For the citizens it was unbearable. They suffered from throat scraping and eye
stinging sensations. The people soon realized that something must have gone wrong..
The day after the incident, the city officials blamed the Southern California Gas Co. s
Aliso Street plant for the catastrophe. In order to stop the smog, the angry public had
the plant shut down temporarily. Yet they were unpleasantly surprised to

political parties, shows how they both rejected a monarchy, but the Democratic
Republicans pushed for rule by the common people, and the Federalists sided with
rule by the wealthier class.
Both Federalists and Democratic Republicans completely disregarded the idea of a
monarchy. When the Constitution was established, and during the Constitutional
Convention, the concept of a monarchy was requested by neither Federalists or
Democratic Republicans. Both of the creators of the two parties attended the

Their variation is actually what set them apart from each other. Democratic
Republicans and Federalists had extremely diverse views on who would select the
representatives and the future of the new government. The people are turbulent and
changing; they seldom judge or determine right, Alexander Hamilton stated in his
speech at the Constitutional Convention. To summarize, Alexander Hamilton was
claiming that people are constantly altering their ideas and beliefs. Thus, relying on a
group of mind changers was not going to contribute to a stable government. I am not
among those who fear the people. They, and not the rich, are our dependence for
continued freedom, Thomas Jefferson declared in a letter to Samuel Kercheval. In
other words, everyone wishes to obtain freedom. So, to keep us completely free, we
must let those people determine the fate of our country. Democratic Republicans also
feared a powerful government, and didn t want to put the fate of our country in the
hands of a certain class, but the people everywhere. When the people fear the
government, there is Tyranny, when the government fears the people, there is
Liberty, Thomas Jefferson conveyed. He did not consider a dominant government a
knowledgeable solution. Democratic Republicans sided with the common people,

58. If People Were Good For Homeless People
Many people believe that all human natural reactions were good. Although, the
word good has many definitions. One of the main definitions is, that which is
morally right; righteousness (Google 1). This means that being good is doing the
right thing. If being good means to do the right thing then why are there
orphanages, wars, homeless people, and police? If people were good, then they
would do the right thing and adopt children in orphanages. If people were good,
then countries would help each other instead of fighting. If people were good, then
there would not be homeless people on the streets not being helped. If people were
good, then there would not be policemen trying to stop murderers or kidnappers. If
people were really good the world would not have these problems. Humans are evil,

an area that is unsafe. If humans were kind to one another, the Jews would not be
in that position. Besides the widespread hunger and poverty, overpopulation lead
to diseases ( The Holocaust 1). This proves that the Germans treated the Jews
terribly and they were not nice enough to let them go. Meanwhile, beginning in the

59. Risk Analysis For The Republic Of Nicaragua
Introduction of Risk Analysis for the Republic of Nicaragua A risk analysis is a
compilation of detailed factors weaved together to determine the likelihood of
success or failure for a project, goal, or investment. Businesses use these to
determine the viability or feasibility of a new product, initiative, or opening into a
new market segment. A country risk analysis is simply the extension of a risk
analysis to include an entire country. In essence, a country risk analysis is a tool
used to identify the risks associated with opening a business, creating trade
agreements, or investing in a country. A country risk analysis is very important
because it takes into account many factors including the current and past political
climate, economic risk, geography and climate risks, cultures, and laws pertaining to
the country being analyzed. Often, countries are given a grade to enable a quick
comparison to how risky investing in one country is compared to another country. It
is important to indicate that a country risk analysis is not static. As factors of the
analysis change within the country, the risk of investing in that country also changes.
These analyses are fluid and are always fluctuating. Changes can be indicative of
deliberate governmental action taken by the country while other times the risks may
change because of an action other countries have taken. The purpose of this paper is
to create a risk analysis for the Republic of Nicaraguaand to explain the
