Internal Reality In The Minister s Black Veil
In the same way as other authors of his time, Hawthorne underlined man s internal reality, and those
musings and sentiments which are not promptly clear. As he investigated this inward nature, he not
just discovered the wellspring of poise and excellence, additionally certain components of haziness
and roughness. In The Minister s Black Veil, these components are dealt with as genuine and
unpreventable strengths in human presence. The bringing together subject is the contention between
the dull, shrouded side of man and the guidelines forced by his rigid legacy, and the mental and handy
ramifications of this contention. Hawthorne brings malicious and unapproved longing into the circuit
of puritan life, and in this way passes on a significant truth that is irritating in its suggestion, to be
specific that we can never would like to know one another s actual selves. The subjects in the story are
recommended by the cover image, the pressure between the clergyman and the group, and the
utilization of ace Freudian mental examination. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Numerous individuals accept that the face gives data around a man s hidden qualities and,
consequently, about his or her likely conduct. Subsequently, by wearing the cover, the pastor takes
away the premise on which individuals can anticipate his conduct. This is the primary driver of the
clergyman s detachment, despite the fact that he is made unusual as of now by the unimportant
demonstration of wearing the cloak. Some piece of the startling impact of the shroud gets from the
learning that the individual behind it can see everything without being seen

The Revolution Of Modernism And The Mesopotamian Architecture
A building is designed for functionality. This principle has served as the cornerstone of architecture in
the United States and throughout the world since the first hut of the Mesopotamian civilization. As the
centuries go by, this principle started to deviate. With a series of political debris left over from the
World War II, the Cold War and the revitalizing economic policies of the Reagan Era, Canadian
American architect Frank Gehry was able to shatter the established architectural norm of the modern
era and pen an iconoclastic style called deconstructivism in the postmodern 1980s, leaving a
resounding legacy in the architecture industry.
The social and political debris remaining by the end of World War II and the Cold War stifled the
possibility of a new architectural movement. The revolution of modernism, a form of architecture in
which function dictated form, in the postwar decades turned into a routinized corporation that headed
towards unpromising directions as it instigated the diminishment of architectural meaning and artistic
expression. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even after completing in 1978, the house still appeared to be under construction, wrapped in materials
out of an industrial catalogue. The house retained its essence as a perpetual construction site,
exemplifying Gehry s contradictory mixture of the ordinary and the avant garde. Combining
modernist form making with common materials, he had the courage to exploit the implicit freedom of
the American middle class neighborhood. This method became a first in the United States and caught
the attention of critics. In spite of the first evidence of an imminent prominence, Gehry had to hone
the power of architecture to counter the forces of capital; otherwise, its capacity to sustain any critical
role could be largely

In the connection of the World Wide Web, a bookmark is a provincially put away Uniform Resource

Racial Inequalities
Inequalities Between Whites and African Americans In order for us to work towards a more racially
equal society, we need to know what type of social policies contribute to racial inequalities. Then, we
need to either change those social policies or get rid of them completely. Rothstein focuses mainly on
housing policies, which segregated African Americans from whites. Those social policies did not only
constraint African Americans from buying a house in neighborhoods predominantly white, but it
limited their accessibility to other important resources and services such as employment and
education. This is very similar to today s racial inequalities. According to Rohstein, ... St. Louis was
segregated by interlocking and racially explicit public policies of zoning, public housing, and
suburban finance, and by publicly endorsed segregation policies of the real estate, banking, and
insurance industries (30). Real estate agents and banks contributed to this segregation between whites
and African Americans. As soon as African Americans moved to a predominantly white neighborhood,
whites would pack their things and leave. According to Rothstein, Once [a black family] moved in and
was visible, real estate agents solicited nearby homeowners to sell quickly before an imminent influx
of black buyers caused their homes to lose value (25). This is one of the techniques that real estate
agents used to maintain whites and African Americans segregated. Real estate agents and mortgage

The Differences Between Calvinism And Arminianism
Has God decided whether or not you will be saved and go to Heaven? Is there anything you can do in
determining your place in either Heaven or Hell? Calvinism and Arminianism are two differing
theological standpoints that have been and are being debated frequently. These stances give an answer
to the question of whether or not people are subject to predestination. Both sides hold that they are
correct and backed by biblical proofs. Upon having a first look towards both views it is immediately
clear and evident that it is rather difficult to discern which of the two have strong biblical support.
Calvinism and Arminianism are held by all sorts of Christians from all denominations. To achieve a
better understanding of each view it is important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that without God granting us faith we cannot choose to have it and therefore not receive a
key to paradise. So Calvinism rose as a new way of viewing salvation in response towards the
Catholic Church s twisted and deformed teachings to gain money from the common man. What does
Calvinism teach exactly? According to David N. Steele and Curtis Thomas in their article The Five
Points of CALVINISM Defined, Defended, Documented Calvinism holds that Salvation is
accomplished by the almighty power of the Triune God. The Father chose a people, the Son died for
them, the Holy Spirit makes Christ s death effective by bringing the elect to faith and repentance,
thereby causing them to willingly obey the gospel. The entire process (election, redemption,
regeneration) is the work of God and is by grace alone. Thus God, not man, determines who will be
the recipients of the gift of salvation. Calvinism can be better understood when taking a look at the
five points of Calvinism commonly referred to as T.U.L.I.P, which stands for Total Depravity,
Unconditional Election, Limited Atonement, Irresistible Grace, and Perseverance of the Saints (Slick
The Five Points of Calvinism ). The first point, total depravity, states that man is completely affected
by sin. However, this does not mean that man is

From Bondage to Freedom
Whenever Abraham Lincoln heard anyone arguing for slavery he would feel a strong impulse to see it
tried on him personally . Experiencing slavery first hand would definitely give someone an opposing
view towards slavery. Despite the quick fix for slavery this option offers, it is not one of the more
humane or reasonable choices. Slavery has a long history as something that will ruin a person s life.
One of the most horrific outcomes of human nature, slavery becomes recognizable not only as an
outward and physical bondage, but as something that controls people s emotions and financial
statuses. Enslaved people are often pitied, and treated as if they have no control over the matter.
Several notable works, The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass
by Frederick Douglass, and Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston focus on varying
aspects of slavery. The main characters in these books all undergo some form of slavery. Whether
enslaved physically, economically, or mentally, perseverance, knowledge, and a mind open to change
will most often result in freedom from one s bondages.
Physical slavery, by far the most obvious and apparent type, has tormented not only Africans, but
other people as well. Although not technically slaves, some people tend to get bossed around
controlled more easily than others. On the other hand, some people order others around, and expect to
be obeyed. In Their Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora

Building Faith Community From Day One
Building Faith Community From Day One
As an architect in a Catholic school, the principal bears the load of responsibility for setting the tone
for each school year and as an architect of Catholic culture, is to connect the school s core values and
beliefs to Christ and the Gospel intentionally, deliberately, and continually. (Cook, 2001, p. 20) The
principal, being the spiritual leader of the school, helps support the Catholic school s mission and the
xxxx of the Catholic identity of the school. They must lead through example and build the faith
community. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops states that Within such communities
teachers and pupils experience together what it means to live a life of prayer, personal responsibility
and freedom reflective of Gospel Values. (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, 1973, p. 30)
During the first week of school is when the mission of the school and the Gospel Values or the core
beliefs and values of Catholic schooling, should be reveled and xxx to the faith community. My vision
would be to reveal the Gospel values of Faith and Love and the greatest link for those is prayer.
Prayer
The National Directory for Catechist states that faith must be know, celebrated, lived, and expressed in
prayer. (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, 2005, p. 60) Prayer is a direct path to growing
closer with God and it is fundamental task of a catechist to teach others how to pray. Prayer is a way

Application Letter For A Design Patent
on April 15, 2011. Appel made national headline when they accused Samsung of infringement on
three of their design patent. Sparking a national debate about infringement and kick starting the patent
wars. but what exactly is a design patent and why should we care? In this paper, I hope to inform the
reader on what a design patent is, what is the use of a design patent, the requirement of obtaining a
design patent, and a look into the ethical issue surrounding patent assertion entities before we can talk
about what a design patent is, we first must know what a design is. According to the united states
patent and trademark office(U.S. Patent and trademark office. Design patent application
guide.2009.web
), A design consists of the visual ornamental characteristics embodied in, or applied to, an article of
manufacture. A design could relate to the shape and proportion of an article, the surface of an article or
a combination of the two. For instance, a Donald duck telephone would be an example of a design
related to shape and proportion, and a picture of a race car used as a watch face is an example of a
surface design. A patent is a property right to an inventor. patents grant the right to exclude others
from making, using, offering for sale, or selling an invention in the United States or importing the
invention into the United States.
To obtain rights to a design patent, an applicate must meet three requirements. The design patent must
be a patentable subject, it must be

The Causes And Consequences Of Grade Inflation
Grade inflation has been a widespread issue that has been affecting many institutions. It may be in a
way where the instructor raises a students grade by one letter, or by raising a failing grade to a passing
grade. Many colleges and universities to this day use the typical letter grading system which is
A,B,C,D,F. Some universities, on the other hand feel that this grading system is under estimating
students intelligence and abilities. Also, many universities are suffering from the problem of grades
that are expanding. Professors and teachers who over evaluate the quality of the student s work or
assignment and consequently assign a grade higher than what the student deserves mainly cause the
problem. Causes that might cause grade inflation is portrayed through personal motives, target of
getting an A grade and avoiding an F and students being in competition with their classmates.
One of the causes of grade inflation is portrayed through personal motives or high expectations from
parents to their children. Many parents put pressure on their children to get good grades. As a result,
the children demand to get A s to meet one of their parents expectations, which is to good a good job.
They get motivated to only get the best of grades. This later becomes a students personal motive. The
students get motivated by letter grades and believe that an A is the only acceptable grade and a
doorway to a brighter future. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If one student gets an A while their classmate gets a grade below a C grade he or she tends to make the
other feel worse. This type of behavior automatically drives the other student out of his mind and
causes major jealousy. In this case, the student s aim is not to get a higher grade but to win the
competition to prove himself/herself better than his

The Benefits Of Uber
Uber, which started their business in Hong Kong in the middle of 2014, has aroused an intense
controversy currently. As they are now operated in more than 20 cities in Asia, their large expansion
has made all taxi drivers affected places envious (Entrepreneurhk, n.d.). Because of their similarity in
providing driving service, there is one after another protest by the local taxi drivers in those countries.
Meanwhile, Uber is still not legalized in Hong Kong. Then, should it be legalized by the government?
Based on its benefits, I strongly believe that it should be legalized in Hong Kong due to three reasons,
to provide a higher quality transportation service to customers, a substitute for drivers to work and
facilitate healthy competition among ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many licensed drivers would choose to drive it as their part time occupation to earn extra income. For
example, some senior drivers would choose to drive it to earn part time income; it provides chance for
them to work again freely based on their schedule. Also, Uber drivers enjoy higher flexibility in
adjusting the fare that they can either offer a lower price by giving a discount or a higher price on
public holidays and weekends (Rott, 2013). However, taxi drivers can only charge a fixed price;
otherwise, they will receive complaints for overcharging. They can only earn more by driving more.
Besides, Uber drivers enjoy high autonomy as they are not working as shift taxi drivers; instead, they
can pick up passengers based on their free schedule. In other words, it is much less stressful to drive
an Uber rather than a taxi (UberPeople, n.d.). Moreover, if Uber is legalized in Hong Kong, then its
drivers are regarded as the employee, but not self employed. In light of this, Uber needs to pay its
drivers compensation for overtime and holiday working, which allows Uber drivers to earn more, then
their income are secured and they are safeguarded by the law. Therefore, legalizing Uber should be
advantageous to drivers in Hong

The Outlook For Children Foster Care During The U.s. Is...
The outlook for children in foster care in the U.S. is cause for alarm (Zetlin, MacLeod, Kimm, 2012).
Foster youth, otherwise known as youth who are ward of the court, are one of the most at risk
populations in areas such as physical and emotional health, juvenile delinquencies and educational
achievement. This is primarily due to factors such as disruptive a history of abuse, school changes,
social stigma and isolation, lack of educational supports, disproportionately high rates of special
education services, and exclusionary disciplinary actions (Gallegos White, 2013). Specific to
education, foster youth are twice as likely to be suspended and almost four times as likely to be
expelled on a national scale (Courtney, Terao, Bost, 2004). Additionally, approximately 30 50% of
children in care qualify for special education compared with 11.5% children not in foster care (Zetlin,
MacLeod, Kimm, 2012). As a result, interventions have been developed to support foster youth to
overcome such detrimental challenges in their academic journey. To negate the educational
consequences of undergoing the foster care system, many higher education institutions have emplaced
programs to encourage the academic achievement and success of foster youth in higher education.
One such program is the Guardian Scholars Program (GSP) at Los Angeles Pierce College (LAPC).
The GSP aims to provide social, academic and financial support to foster youth in order to reduce

Brazos Theological Argumentary On The Bible Exodus
On the individual side of commentaries, I used the Brazos theological commentary on the bible
exodus by Thomas Joseph White to analyze Ex 2:1 21. The main difference with The New Interpreter
s Bible is that this book seems to be solely focus on the events in exodus. Before the introduction we
are given a set of series prefaces compose of acknowledgements and abbreviations to help us read the
book. The organization of the book starts with an index named contents where we are given the
number of chapters and subcategories of these chapters. In the chapter part we start with Introduction,
then Deliverance from Egypt: Exodus 1 12, Wilderness: Exodus 13 18, Covenant: Exodus 19 24,
Cultic Rituals: Exodus 25 31, and at last Fall and Eschatological Restoration: Exodus 32 40. The
introduction is divided in three categories, the darkness and light of god, the division of the book of
exodus, the four senses of scripture. These points summarize of the book literally. First the darkness
and light of god, Mr. Joseph White argues that the dense dark aspects are often around us. Sometimes
we get the idea that God has abandoned us. We may think so because we have always seen God as a
God of dazzling brilliance (Rev. 21:11; Hebrews 12:29) and God in good times. However, this type of
idea is challenged when one reads Exodus 20:21 As the people stood in the distance, Moses
approached the dark cloud where God was. Where the author of the commentary gives us a basic

Forbidden Love In Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet My only love, sprung from my only hate, too early seen unknown, and known to
hate. (Act I, Scene VI, Lines 136 137) The classic tale of the tragic love story Romeo and Juliet has
been told time and time again to dozens of generations. This play tells the story of Romeo Montague
and Juliet Capulet and their forbidden love. The Montague s and Capulet s have been feuding for as
long as anyone in Verona can remember, but one night young Juliet met a masked stranger at a ball
and they fall in love. She ends up discovering this stranger is Romeo Montague and it is forbidden to
have any connection with one of the Montagues, let alone a relationship. Both her and Romeo decide
to keep their love a secret and continue to be together. This causes many problems in the story
including Lord Capulet threatening to disown Juliet if she continued to see Romeo and there being a
miscommunication where Romeo thought Juliet has died and commits suicide because he could never
live without her; where in fact she was under a sleeping potion so her family would think ... Show

If their parents or the townsfolk found out about a Capulet loving a Montague, havoc would rein. Both
of them would have most likely been disowned by their parents and banished from Verona. There was
also the possibility of violence breaking out between the two families if news of this relationship
surfaced. The play s use of secrecy is needed to help create and progress the story line. If Romeo or
Juliet would have either decided to tell their parents about their relationship sooner or would have
married other people; the story would have either been incredibly short or boring. The aspect of family
feuds, true love, and civil battles all help make the play more intriguing, enticing, and iconic. Their
choice of secrecy also shows how they truly loved one another and were willing to face challenges and
adversity for each

Essay about The uncertainties of using a ruler and caliper
The uncertainties of measurements using a ruler, caliper, and spring scales.
Isaiah Gonzales, Roman Acuna
September 19, 2014
Abstract: The experimenters conducted a total of four mini labs. In each lab they had to find
measurements dealing with different instruments such as a ruler, caliper, stopwatch, and two spring
scales of different newtons. The objective in each experiment was to record and measure different
objects and to also give advantages and uncertainties when dealing with different instruments. The
experimenters found that each instrument comes with an uncertainty. When dealing with a ruler, the
measurement can be very accurate but is not as precise as a caliper. The caliper was the most precise
instrument that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the final experiment, Density of the Mass Set, the experimenters used the vernier caliper to lead
them to the volume of some of the figures in the mass set, and this eventually led them to find the

10 N Spring Scale
Procedures: Step one: The experimenters used the vernier caliper to measure the height of a 100 g
mass(from the mass set).
Step two: They recorded the height on the table and included an uncertainty.
Step three: The experimenters repeated the process to measure the diameter of the 100 g mass.
Step four: The experimenters calibrated the 10 N spring scale, and confirmed the mass of 100 g mass.
Step five: Then they recorded the mass and uncertainty onto the table.
Step six: After this, they used the equation, Density = Mass/Volume, to find the density of the 100 g
mass and recorded it onto the table.

Examples Of Irony In Open The Window
In the two short stories, Like the Sun and Open the Window there is irony and paradox hidden within
them both . Paradox is when a statement or phrase cancels out another sentence . For example , I ate
no pizza , but I had a piece . Irony is when you say something that references something else . For
example , a person doesn t know that there is a scary clown outside, but the audience or reader does .
The first paradox is in the story Like the Sun . The main paradox in this story is you are suppose to tell
people the truth, but if you do it can cause many conflicts, than if you just say nothing and nod . In the
story, Sekhar was asked if he heard about the death of a character, if it was a pity . The other man

Sexual Masochism Disorder
Sexual Masochism Disorder I found the inclusion of sexual masochism disorder (and sexual sadism
disorder) in the DSM 5 interesting and outdated. Sexual Masochism Disorder is a Paraphilic Disorder
which is defined as recurrent, intense sexually arousing fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors generally
involving i) non human objects, ii) the suffering or humiliation of oneself or one s partner, or iii)
children or other non consenting persons that occur over a period of at least 6 months with a proposed
new definition of any powerful and persistent sexual interest other than sexual interest in copulatory or

I know that my proclivity toward dangerous sex can be precarious and even perilous with an untrained
partner but I am careful to choose partners that are well versed in the art of sadism, as are most
masochists. While I do suffer from mental health diagnoses of Anxiety and Depression, I have never
been diagnosed with SMD, or another Paraphilia based disorder. I do believe that for most people who
practice or seek out dangerous sex it is because of the thrill of participating in deviant behavior. It is

is no longer the fear of criminal charges or medicalization of said sexual behaviors, there is a higher
likelihood that those who participate in said behaviors will come forward and seek help if they do feel

Leadership Qualities In George Washington And Frank R....
Leadership is shown or expressed in different ways. George Washington and Frank R. Stockton have
shown leadership qualities in their articles Thanksgiving Proclamation and The Lady or The Tiger.
Even though both articles show leadership, George Washington is more effective demonstrating
leadership. George Washington s Thanksgiving Proclamation speech in 1789 shows qualities of a
leader better than the king in Frank R. Stockton article The Lady or The Tiger did. This selection is
more effective at communicating the author s message is that Thanksgiving Proclamation is important
because it has a lot of speeches that are communicated the message effectively. George Washington
article Thanksgiving Proclamation demonstrated how the qualities of a leader could be persuasive.
According to George Washington, Thanksgiving Proclamation , it states Now therefore I do

Frank Lloyd Wright s Fallingwater And Wim Delvoye
Visual art and construction can be integrated within one another through different mediums. Frank
Lloyd Wright shows this in the building, Fallingwater, while Wim Delvoye presents it in his piece,
Caterpillar 5bis. These two men have very unique and different styles but in the end they both relate to
art and construction. Whether it be art in construction or construction in art there is no doubt that the
two have crossed paths. Frank Lloyd Wright is an architect who lets art influence his construction. In
some of his pieces Wright lets the artistic beauty of surroundings and nature influence and be a part of
his buildings. Wright addressed the issue of boundaries in architecture, he had unique ideas and

Kill Devil Hill Challenges
Think about inventing something that no one has never imagined before. Wouldn t it be cool? Now
imagine how hard it would be. Really hard right? Well, while constructing the first aircraft, the Wright
brothers went through many problems and challenges, but they had to learn how to overcome them.
For example, they went through weather issues, religious problems and technical difficulties. They
must of had incredible inventing skills to overcome these complicated challenges! The weather in Kill
Devil Hill affected the process of inventing the first motorized aircraft. When the aircraft first arrived
in Kill Devil Hills, the weather was despot and stormy, however, that challenge did not stop the
brothers. They kept on working on assembling the aircraft. After a crash, the airplane was ready to fly

Nietzsche s Loss Of The Power Of God
God is dead. This is perhaps one of the most famous quotes in the history of philosophy. It has been
subject to many interpretations and in this essay, one of these interpretations is going to be explored.
God is dead means that the source of man s guidance through life, which is God, has lost its power.
This loss of power of God will impact society from its foundation to its apex. This is because as the
old structure, which is dependent on God collapses, what will fill the void left by Santa Claus? What
is man supposed to do then, other than following a moral code that has been the norm for ages? What
will fill that void? All of these are questions that arise out of the fear of the void left by God upon the
heart of man. Must man then become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As it seems, humans will always need something to follow that is outside of themselves. From the
Nietzschean point of view, instead of looking outward for guidance, we must look inward and become
the driving force of our lives through lived experience and this is what makes Nietzsche an
existentialist.
What I relate is the history of the next two centuries. I describe what is coming, what can no longer
come differently: the advent of nihilism. . . . For some time now our whole European culture has been
moving as toward a catastrophe. This quote is projecting the consequences of God s death and not
long after Nietzsche s time, what he predicted had come to pass. Furthermore, The Death of God has
two possible implications. In the short run, the consequences will not be pleasant, but in the long term,
they will be. The projected short term implication of this is the rise of Nihilism. Described as
ambiguous by Nietzsche, nihilism is an outlook on life that sees life as meaningless. The problem with
nihilism is that it still relies on the void left by the external source of direction even though the idea of
God that once governed it is dead. For this reason, nihilism is ambiguous because

Essay on Bop Music in the 1950s
The Bop Beat
The bebop revolution coincided with the birth of the Beat Generation. In a slightly unbalanced
relationship, Beat writers often molded their poetics and style after the playing of such jazz music.
Jazz writers, such as Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg, upheld their poetic ideals to the techniques of
jazz musicians, such as rhythm, improvisation, and call and response. The structure of creative writing
underwent a change, as the importance of form equaled that of theme.
Swing, the predecessor of bop, was big, sweet, and hot. The performers were big bands, fronted by a
charismatic bandleader, yet the success of a piece depended mostly on the unity of the ensemble as a
whole, rather than on the showcasing of prodigious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of the traditional stressing of the first and third beat of a measure, as in traditional Western
music, bop music stresses the second and fourth. The playing pattern usually initiates with the theme,
then follows with a reed solo, trumpet solo, piano solo, bass or drum solo every second, third, or
fourth number. Within a song would sometimes hold trading fours, alternating four bar improvisations
between instruments. Usually, the piece would end with a restatement of the theme (Jones 42 43).
Additionally, when familiar tunes were included, it was to satirize such antiseptic creations of the
white world, and were more often then not turned upon their heads and wrecked for bop motives.
Bop musicians rejected the idea of playing solely for an audience; they graduated from the roles of
entertainers to the positions of musicians. Their music was not as melodic and hyperactive as swing.
Subsequently, bop never became an obsession of popular culture, and remained introspective, for a
largely introspective Beat culture.
The Beat Generation was a movement which rebelled against the social and literary conformity and
conservatism of white, middle class, suburban, post war America. The term Beat holds many origins.
One is canonized, as tired and weary. Another derivation, pinpointed by Kerouac, comes from the
word beatitude, holy, state of ultimate bliss. A relevant definition to jazz involves the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Statutory Interpretation
TRADITIONAL RULES OF STATUTORY INTEPRITATION

when parliament has exceeded a certain stage, it falls to the court to apply the statute in a particular
case. This can lead to hardship in the sense that the fact of certain issues may not have been concluded
by the parliament or where right are been moved as an error in the statute.
The three traditional rules of statutory interpretation are:

Advantage and disadvantage of the golden rule
1: The main advantage of the golden rule is that raising mistakes and statutes can be corrected
immediately. This is seen in the (R V ALLEN)1872 case where the loopholes where closed the
decision was in line with parliament intentions and it gave a more just outcome
2: the main disadvantage of the golden rule is that judges can technically and wisely change the law
by exchanging the meaning of words in the statute . the can potentially infringing the separation of
power between legal and legislature.
The golden rule would help if there is no absurdity in the statute. For example the London and

The Causative Agent Of Human Monocytotrophic Ehrlichiosis
Members of the genus Ehrlichia, the causative agent of human monocytotrophic ehrlichiosis (HME),
are important emerging tick borne pathogens globally. Ehrlichia spp. is naturally transmitted by
Ixodidae family ticks and maintained between the ticks and the wild or domestic animal reservoir
hosts.
E. canis can cause illness in dogs and other canids, and these animals are thought to be the reservoir
hosts. Evidence of infection with this or a similar organism has also been reported in cats and captive
wild felids. Human infections with E.canis have been reported but the incidence is quite few. In
Venezuela, chronic, asymptomatic infections with E. canis in human patients have been reported as
well as six clinical cases with ehrlichiosis. All patients with clinical cases had a fever, and most had a
headache and/or myalgia. Also, malaise, arthralgia, nausea, vomiting, rash, bone pain, diarrhea or
abdominal pain occurred in some patients. Leukopenia was seen in one patient and anemia in another.
All of the six patients were young and otherwise healthy, and the E. canis strains were identical to
those seen in dogs. E. canis nucleic acids have also been detected in a small number of stored human
serum samples in the U.S. Although E. canis occur worldwide, its presence and density in an area
varies with the distribution of its tick vectors. The presence of novel Ehrlichia genotype suspected to
be E.canis detected in dogs in South Africa has been reported by Allsopp and Allsopp

How The Gap Between Healthcare And Technology And Help The...
ABSTRACT
Healthcare sector is facing plethora of challenges ranging from poor infrastructure to population
explosions, large masses of population shifting from rural to urban area etc. Traditional facilities
makes user confined thus restricts user movement especially elderly people. Our goal is to increase
medical efficiency and reduce burden on healthcare infrastructure. We intend to create a prototype of a
self sufficient health monitoring system which requires low investment for development and provide
quality healthcare at the same time. For proposed system, Arduino Mega 2560 processor is used along
with various sensors and data transmission system. Sensors used are accelerometer, body temperature,
heart rate and Electrocardiogram which gives basic patient monitoring data. Attached LCD displays
various health related parameters. Interactive mobile app is developed on android platform which
displays parameters. Received data can be transmitted remotely for further analysis also help doctors
monitor overall health of their patient remotely while transmission system ensures safety during
critical times. Through our project, we want to bridge the gap between healthcare and technology and
help the masses stay fit and healthy.
INTRODUCTION
Current methods of providing medical assistance are based on person physically present in the
hospital and constantly monitor physiological parameters. Lack of number of doctors is the major
problem in most of the hospitals especially in

The Future Of Transportation, Electricity, And Energy
When Benjamin Franklin first discovered electricity, it was one of the biggest discoveries known to
mankind. Even though our dependence on electricity is enormous, it is still easy to forget just how
dependent we are on electricity. Electricity has played a huge part in our everyday lives and will
continue to do so. In fact, it is quite hard to imagine humanity without electricity. When it comes to
transportation, electricity will someday rewrite the history books. One of the most important issues in
the future of transportation is to decrease emissions. The amount of people that are driving individual
vehicles will also need to be reduced. One of the bigger problems is that we are using our fossil fuels

This is because they are supposed to give power during a large amount of time. In result, deep cycle
batteries are used instead of SLI batteries for these applications. Many current technologies have much
lower specific energy which impacts the maximum all electric range of the vehicles. On the other
hand, metal air batteries have high specific energy because the cathode is provided by the surrounding
oxygen in the air. One definite application of electromagnetic technology relates to a form of
transportation that might appear to be old news at first, which is trains. However, magnetic levitation
trains are as far removed from the old stream engines of the Union Pacific as the space shuttle is from
the Wright brothers experimental airplane. Those type of engines most likely laid the ground work for

calculate electric current. You have to understand the use of magnetism in

Smithfield Foods Executive Summary
Consequent to realizing my B.S in Science from Kansas State University I was recruited to work for
Smithfield Foods, Oklahoma Division. I used to work for this respected company for nine years.
During my employment, I realized the food industry invested millions every year in promoting their
brand towards consumers. The marketing department did a phenomenal job in advertising the
Smithfield brand across the world. Smithfield Foods is the No. 1 U.S. producer of packaged pork
products. Their brand encompasses the labels: Farmland, John Morrell, and Eckrich; just to name a
few. Labeling is vital to the success of the corporation. Even though Smithfield makes John Morrell
products, the company does not believe in changing the label to Smithfield Foods because their
customers have product acceptance. Nevertheless, as Smithfield releases a new food product line
customers are more apt to buy the product since they trust the brand. Moreover, Smithfield does an
exceptional job of product identification. Customers can easily identify with the Smithfield logo
without looking at the letters on the package. Therefore, making it easier for people to buy their
products. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

African American Education History
The Declaration of Independence declared that all men were created equally. So why were people not
treated like it? We can conclude that they were not treated the same because African Americans faced
slavery, segregation, and other things that proved they were treated differently from Caucasians. We
had the thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth amendment put into place to make the life of an African
American easier. However, just because there were amendments to help them, does not mean people
listened. In 1909 the National Association for the Advancement of Colored people was founded. This
was one of the biggest organizations made to help African Americans. The people working for the
organization tried fighting laws to protect African Americans. ... Show more content on

What if it never went to the courts? What if they voted against it again and again? The world would be
a much different place today. African Americans and whites would still probably be separated. No one
would know any better to not put them together. There would most likely be a lot more fighting in the
world than there is today. And you would not see caucasians and African Americans being friends like
they are today. It is weird to imagine what the world would be like without this court case happening.
But because of it, the world has become a much better place, and it helped people become a lot more
friendly. Because of this court case, African Americans were able to get the same education as whites.
Thus increasing their knowledge. Before Brown v. Board of Education, one and forty African
Americans would get a college degree. Now, one in five African Americans will graduate college. Not
only did schools become unsegregated, but so did the work place. Both African Americans and
caucasians had the equal opportunity to work wherever the pleased, no matter what color skin tone
they were. However, even with all the better things in the world, there are still problems with equality.
According to reports, whites are finishing college at a much faster rate than African Americans. And
because of this, median income for African American families still remains only about three fifths that
for whites. This is not much better than it was

Research Question Does the development of the dark triad personality traits in adolescence contribute
as the main factor to juvenile delinquency?
As Humans, we are understood to have a higher degree of variance in our behaviours than most other
species and this has a significant impact on the way we interact with others in society. My personal
interest in behavioural studies and criminology lead me to research more on the characteristics of
adolescence in relation to juvenile delinquency. Upon further research, I stumbled across the subject

The key findings so far have suggested that the psychopathic and narcissistic traits are highly
prevalent among adolescents. They also show factors leading to delinquency which include callous
unemotional and sadistic traits particularly in boys. Disengagement is another factor that plays a large
part in the emergence of Machiavellianism at an early stage. These findings will be useful in locating a
link between these behaviours and if they can be the main reason for juvenile delinquency.
The gap in these research papers is that they have not yet looked into why it was particularly boys that
developed these traits were more prone to delinquent behaviour than girls who did. Works Cited

Taking a Look at Ancient Empires
Ancient Empires such as Gupta, Rome, Maya, and Rome were some important empires. They all have
Pros/Cons in their Empire. No empire was perfect, each empire had its own ups and downs. The
Romans had a strong military that gained lots of new land compared to the Mayans who did not have a
strong military because their military did not help gain lots of land and didn t really defend their land
well like the Romans did. Rome had better beliefs and religion such as Roman mythology which had
stronger beliefs compared to hinduism in Gupta. Even though, Maya enjoyed good trade such as
animal skin, and jade, Romans still had better architecture which was more helpful. Rome has better
characteristics compared to the other empires which makes it the most successful.
When the idea comes to military, it is important that the military is strong so it can help protect
land/people and help the empire in gaining new land. Mayans didn t have a good military compared to
the military the Romans had. Furthermore, the Roman s military was strong because they conquered
lots of land in places like Italy, Malta, Spain, Portugal, and etc with strong military tactics compared to
the Mayan s military which didn t help in gaining lots of new land. Weapons like shield, sandal,
gladius, other weapons and smart strategies like the orb helped Romans in achieving lots of new land.
For example, The orb was a defensive position which helped in the defense of the Romans. People can

taken place (Whitman Mattord, 2012). Adequately preparing for disasters would help in fast recovery.
For example, fire is a catastrophic disaster, so backups should be at off site location to minimize the
damage caused to clients, employees, stakeholders and investors. Disaster recovery plan must be
developed and implemented with top down support across all departments in an organization. Every
department in an organization must contribute to the disaster plan. IT team should write the disaster

unique position of understanding of the daily operations of each department, as well as constant
communication with leads within those each department. Without a cross departmental participation it
is impossible to put out a proper plan. The disaster plan should include more possible scenarios
because the cause of disaster is more. The following are considered as disasters in the typical
organization: 1) Employee fraud 2) Stolen laptop 3) Fire 4) Terrorist attacks To effectively face the

Jamacia Kimcaid s Girl
Girl is a story by Jamacia Kimcaid and it is about a mother who has a series of instructions for her
daughter on how she should live her life. She constantly accuses and ridicules the girl about being a
slut and singing calypso songs in church. She tells the girl how she must plant foods, how she must
take care of herself and her house so as not to reveal herself as a slut . Her tone changes towards the
end when she tells the girl to touch the bread at the bakery to see if it is right, to which the daughter
asks what to do if the baker doesn t let her. The mother then says what kind of girl is she that the baker
won t even let her touch bread? The mother is seemingly unreasonable and cruel towards the girl who
seems honest and innocent as she listens to her mother s instructions on how to complete the tasks in
her life. One theme of this story is that of a jealous or vindictive mother that thinks of her child as no
good and commands her to be good she must obey everything she says. Another theme is that there are
many unfair double standards put on young women not only by men but by other women as well. ...

The Rabbits-Deconstruction of Visual Essay
John Marsden s and Shaun Tan s epic picture book, The Rabbits , is an allegorical fable about
colonisation, told from the perspective of the natives. An unseen narrator describes the coming of
rabbits in the most minimal detail, an encounter that is at first friendly and curious, but later darkens
as it becomes apparent that the visitors are actually invaders. My chosen image (above), embodies the
overall style of the book which is deliberately sparse and strange. Both text and image conveys an
overall sense of bewilderment and anxiety as native numbat like creatures witness the environmental
devastation under the wheels of a strange new culture, represented by the rabbits. The image projects a
painting of a striking sunset and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This metaphorically suggests that the rabbits have already begun to construct their homes, and now
nobody can stop them. Their forceful invasion into the native indigenous landscape is further
emphasised by the dead lizard featured in the foreground, which has been brutally squashed with
seemingly no remorse. Furthermore, the buildings in the background are entirely formed by jigsaw
pieces. Thus Tan presents us with a visual allegory of the rabbit society as manipulative and un
relentless nature. The small strip across the top of the visual, presents us with an alternate world that is
natural and heaven like where numbat like creatures are suspended upon tree branches. The gaze of
the numbat like creatures leads us to the quote, They didn t live in trees like we did . Through the
inclusion of text Tan portrays that the numbat like creatures don t understand the rabbits. This quote
does not show any strong emotions, but instead the blatant tone bestows a clueless feeling to us, the
responders. This section is very small in contrast to the rest of the image showing the rabbits. This
symbolically represents the unprecedented manner in which the rabbits came and quickly made their
own houses . At observing the picture more closely, we can conclude that where the numbat like
creatures are sitting, the sky is lighter compared to where the rabbits are placed; implying that the
lighter colour is the time the numbat like creatures were familiar

Robotic-Assisted Hysterectomy Essay
Hysterectomy is one of the commonest gynecologic procedures, with approximately 600,000 women
undergoing this procedure annually in the United States for various indications.9
Robotic assisted hysterectomy has gained widespread acceptance in many centers since U.S. Food and

endometrial cancer surgery suggest potential advantages over traditional laparoscopic surgery,
including improved surgeon ergonomics, high definition three dimensional visions, and wristed

Art In Art, Art And The Art Of Art
Drawing is not an activity, but a piece of me that I could never let go of. Drawing has transformed
itself from a fun hobby into an essential form of expression. It has transformed the way I look at
things; nothing is mundane in art. A tree, for example, is a beautiful thing. Every single tree is unique,
with its own bark texture, its own arrangement of branches, and its own color. The limit only gets
pushed further when the tree inherits the personality of its artistic creator. Whenever I feel emotionally
connected to something, I generally have an impulse to draw it, which strengthens the connection.
Both the result and the process are rewarding; it is always possible to improve, challenge, and discuss
with other artists. There aren t always right ways to draw things, which allows illustration to evolve
throughout time. One room: a dancing lion, a painting cat, and a programming dragon. A normal scene

American Imperialism Analysis
My entire life I was taught that education is a major key to success. This notion was embedded in me,
just like many others to receive an education so you can support yourself and truly experience the
quintessential American Dream. At a very young age in America we are taught to compete in every
aspect of life, to fight for ourselves (metaphorically), don t take no for an answer, always get better ,
and never accept mediocrity , these two phrases are what my high school football coach would preach
to the team daily. Having this competitive mindset of always wanting more and stopping at nothing to

government has done an excellent job of dividing and conquering civilians by humanitarian versus
militaristic imperialism (neocons) in politics. The neocons of the Reagan and Dubya s administration

Woodrow Wilson (Johnson, 70). This, as you would imagine is the Right or conservative Republican

humanitarian, it also has the word imperialist, which contradict the phrase all together. The Clinton

These soft imperialists as Johnson describes are not in any way anti war. The neocons espouse
preventative war (Johnson, 70), while the humanitarians consent to war due to an act of force of
humanitarianism (Kumar, 59). The September 11th attacks were not due to any sort of humanitarian
effort it was an all out nationalistic effort to go to war with the middle east. As far as politics in
America is concerned, these two ideologies are used to gain votes or support the agenda the

The Aftermath Of Colonial Rule On Sub Saharan Africans
The aftermath of colonial rule on Sub saharan Africans has been debilitating. It is present in the
statistics, cultural changes, politics, and the historical unrest in the post colonial state. European
colonists concentrated on the export of Africa s resources, production of cash crops, and profit gained
by displacement of ethnic groups, with no focus on African development. In fact, the complete
disregard for African nations lead to modern day dependency on foreign economy, hindering Africa
even in its emerging independence. W.O. Maloba explains, Economically, colonialism had linked
Africa tightly to the world capitalist system dominated by Europe and later the USA. African
countries, it needs to be repeated, produced raw materials and imported selected manufactured goods
each largely determined by Colonial Capitalism (Decolonization 8). Post colonization did not lead to
complete independence for many countries, including Kenya, but a new form from within:
Neocolonialism, which carries the power of colonialism under Kenyan rule. On independence and
exploitation, Maloba continues, the inherited economical institutions in many countries do not have
the capacity to lead to sustained growth development. They were established to exploit and not
develop these countries (Decolonization 13). Colonialism, though short lived, entrenched Africa into
underdevelopment.
There is an almost tangible link between the economic underdevelopment of Africa and the political

This paper examines the pricing behavior of securities of firms which repurchase their own shares.
The results are consistent with a market in which investors price securities such that expected
arbitrage profits are precluded. The results are also consistent with the hypothesis that firms offer

The direction of this signal is ambiguous.
It may be that the company perceives no profitable use for internally generated funds because of a lack
of growth opportunities.
On the other hand, especially when a company offers to buy its shares at a substantial premium above
the market price, management may believe that their company is undervalued.
The tender offer then represents an attempt to pass on the value of this inside information to the
current shareholders.

Firms repurchase stock in order to let the shareholders benefit from the preferential tax treatment of
repurchases relative to dividends; the tax advantage may be weakened to a certain extent by the

  • 3. The Revolution Of Modernism And The Mesopotamian Architecture A building is designed for functionality. This principle has served as the cornerstone of architecture in the United States and throughout the world since the first hut of the Mesopotamian civilization. As the centuries go by, this principle started to deviate. With a series of political debris left over from the World War II, the Cold War and the revitalizing economic policies of the Reagan Era, Canadian American architect Frank Gehry was able to shatter the established architectural norm of the modern era and pen an iconoclastic style called deconstructivism in the postmodern 1980s, leaving a resounding legacy in the architecture industry. The social and political debris remaining by the end of World War II and the Cold War stifled the possibility of a new architectural movement. The revolution of modernism, a form of architecture in which function dictated form, in the postwar decades turned into a routinized corporation that headed towards unpromising directions as it instigated the diminishment of architectural meaning and artistic expression. ... Combining modernist form making with common materials, he had the courage to exploit the implicit freedom of the American middle class neighborhood. This method became a first in the United States and caught the attention of critics. In spite of the first evidence of an imminent prominence, Gehry had to hone the power of architecture to counter the forces of capital; otherwise, its capacity to sustain any critical role could be largely ... Racial Inequalities Inequalities Between Whites and African Americans In order for us to work towards a more racially equal society, we need to know what type of social policies contribute to racial inequalities. Then, we need to either change those social policies or get rid of them completely. Rothstein focuses mainly on housing policies, which segregated African Americans from whites. Those social policies did not only constraint African Americans from buying a house in neighborhoods predominantly white, but it limited their accessibility to other important resources and services such as employment and education. This is very similar to today s racial inequalities. According to Rohstein, ... St. Louis was segregated by interlocking and racially explicit public policies of zoning, public housing, and suburban finance, and by publicly endorsed segregation policies of the real estate, banking, and insurance industries (30). Real estate agents and banks contributed to this segregation between whites and African Americans. As soon as African Americans moved to a predominantly white neighborhood, whites would pack their things and leave. According to Rothstein, Once [a black family] moved in and was visible, real estate agents solicited nearby homeowners to sell quickly before an imminent influx of black buyers caused their homes to lose value (25). Is there anything you can do in determining your place in either Heaven or Hell? Calvinism and Arminianism are two differing theological standpoints that have been and are being debated frequently. These stances give an answer to the question of whether or not people are subject to predestination. Both sides hold that they are correct and backed by biblical proofs. Upon having a first look towards both views it is immediately clear and evident that it is rather difficult to discern which of the two have strong biblical support. This means that without God granting us faith we cannot choose to have it and therefore not receive a key to paradise. So Calvinism rose as a new way of viewing salvation in response towards the Catholic Church s twisted and deformed teachings to gain money from the common man. What does Calvinism teach exactly? According to David N. Steele and Curtis Thomas in their article The Five Points of CALVINISM Defined, Defended, Documented Calvinism holds that Salvation is accomplished by the almighty power of the Triune God. The Father chose a people, the Son died for them, the Holy Spirit makes Christ s death effective by bringing the elect to faith and repentance, thereby causing them to willingly obey the gospel. The entire process (election, redemption, regeneration) is the work of God and is by grace alone. Thus God, not man, determines who will be the recipients of the gift of salvation. Calvinism can be better understood when taking a look at the five points of Calvinism commonly referred to as T.U.L.I.P, which stands for Total Depravity, Unconditional Election, Limited Atonement, Irresistible Grace, and Perseverance of the Saints (Slick The Five Points of Calvinism ). • 7. From Bondage to Freedom Whenever Abraham Lincoln heard anyone arguing for slavery he would feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally . Experiencing slavery first hand would definitely give someone an opposing view towards slavery. Despite the quick fix for slavery this option offers, it is not one of the more humane or reasonable choices. Slavery has a long history as something that will ruin a person s life. One of the most horrific outcomes of human nature, slavery becomes recognizable not only as an outward and physical bondage, but as something that controls people s emotions and financial statuses. Enslaved people are often pitied, and treated as if they have no control over the matter. Several notable works, The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass by Frederick Douglass, and Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston focus on varying aspects of slavery. The main characters in these books all undergo some form of slavery. Whether enslaved physically, economically, or mentally, perseverance, knowledge, and a mind open to change will most often result in freedom from one s bondages. Physical slavery, by far the most obvious and apparent type, has tormented not only Africans, but other people as well. • 10. The Causes And Consequences Of Grade Inflation Grade inflation has been a widespread issue that has been affecting many institutions. It may be in a way where the instructor raises a students grade by one letter, or by raising a failing grade to a passing grade. Many colleges and universities to this day use the typical letter grading system which is A,B,C,D,F. Some universities, on the other hand feel that this grading system is under estimating students intelligence and abilities. Also, many universities are suffering from the problem of grades that are expanding. Professors and teachers who over evaluate the quality of the student s work or assignment and consequently assign a grade higher than what the student deserves mainly cause the problem. Causes that might cause grade inflation is portrayed through personal motives, target of getting an A grade and avoiding an F and students being in competition with their classmates. One of the causes of grade inflation is portrayed through personal motives or high expectations from parents to their children. Many parents put pressure on their children to get good grades. As they are now operated in more than 20 cities in Asia, their large expansion has made all taxi drivers affected places envious (Entrepreneurhk, n.d.). Because of their similarity in providing driving service, there is one after another protest by the local taxi drivers in those countries. Meanwhile, Uber is still not legalized in Hong Kong. Then, should it be legalized by the government? Based on its benefits, I strongly believe that it should be legalized in Hong Kong due to three reasons, to provide a higher quality transportation service to customers, a substitute for drivers to work and facilitate healthy competition among ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many licensed drivers would choose to drive it as their part time occupation to earn extra income. For example, some senior drivers would choose to drive it to earn part time income; it provides chance for them to work again freely based on their schedule. Also, Uber drivers enjoy higher flexibility in adjusting the fare that they can either offer a lower price by giving a discount or a higher price on public holidays and weekends (Rott, 2013). However, taxi drivers can only charge a fixed price; otherwise, they will receive complaints for overcharging. They can only earn more by driving more. Besides, Uber drivers enjoy high autonomy as they are not working as shift taxi drivers; instead, they can pick up passengers based on their free schedule. In other words, it is much less stressful to drive an Uber rather than a taxi (UberPeople, n.d.). Moreover, if Uber is legalized in Hong Kong, then its drivers are regarded as the employee, but not self employed. In light of this, Uber needs to pay its drivers compensation for overtime and holiday working, which allows Uber drivers to earn more, then their income are secured and they are safeguarded by the law. • 12. The Outlook For Children Foster Care During The U.s. Is... The outlook for children in foster care in the U.S. is cause for alarm (Zetlin, MacLeod, Kimm, 2012). Foster youth, otherwise known as youth who are ward of the court, are one of the most at risk populations in areas such as physical and emotional health, juvenile delinquencies and educational achievement. This is primarily due to factors such as disruptive a history of abuse, school changes, social stigma and isolation, lack of educational supports, disproportionately high rates of special education services, and exclusionary disciplinary actions (Gallegos White, 2013). Specific to education, foster youth are twice as likely to be suspended and almost four times as likely to be expelled on a national scale (Courtney, Terao, Bost, 2004). Additionally, approximately 30 50% of children in care qualify for special education compared with 11.5% children not in foster care (Zetlin, MacLeod, Kimm, 2012). As a result, interventions have been developed to support foster youth to overcome such detrimental challenges in their academic journey. To negate the educational consequences of undergoing the foster care system, many higher education institutions have emplaced programs to encourage the academic achievement and success of foster youth in higher education. One such program is the Guardian Scholars Program (GSP) at Los Angeles Pierce College (LAPC). • 13. Brazos Theological Argumentary On The Bible Exodus On the individual side of commentaries, I used the Brazos theological commentary on the bible exodus by Thomas Joseph White to analyze Ex 2:1 21. The main difference with The New Interpreter s Bible is that this book seems to be solely focus on the events in exodus. Before the introduction we are given a set of series prefaces compose of acknowledgements and abbreviations to help us read the book. The organization of the book starts with an index named contents where we are given the number of chapters and subcategories of these chapters. In the chapter part we start with Introduction, then Deliverance from Egypt: Exodus 1 12, Wilderness: Exodus 13 18, Covenant: Exodus 19 24, Cultic Rituals: Exodus 25 31, and at last Fall and Eschatological Restoration: Exodus 32 40. The introduction is divided in three categories, the darkness and light of god, the division of the book of exodus, the four senses of scripture. These points summarize of the book literally. First the darkness and light of god, Mr. Joseph White argues that the dense dark aspects are often around us. Sometimes we get the idea that God has abandoned us. We may think so because we have always seen God as a God of dazzling brilliance (Rev. 21:11; Hebrews 12:29) and God in good times. However, this type of idea is challenged when one reads Exodus 20:21 As the people stood in the distance, Moses approached the dark cloud where God was. (Act I, Scene VI, Lines 136 137) The classic tale of the tragic love story Romeo and Juliet has been told time and time again to dozens of generations. This play tells the story of Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet and their forbidden love. The Montague s and Capulet s have been feuding for as long as anyone in Verona can remember, but one night young Juliet met a masked stranger at a ball and they fall in love. She ends up discovering this stranger is Romeo Montague and it is forbidden to have any connection with one of the Montagues, let alone a relationship. Both her and Romeo decide to keep their love a secret and continue to be together. This causes many problems in the story including Lord Capulet threatening to disown Juliet if she continued to see Romeo and there being a miscommunication where Romeo thought Juliet has died and commits suicide because he could never live without her; where in fact she was under a sleeping potion so her family would think ... If Romeo or Juliet would have either decided to tell their parents about their relationship sooner or would have married other people; the story would have either been incredibly short or boring. God is dead means that the source of man s guidance through life, which is God, has lost its power. This loss of power of God will impact society from its foundation to its apex. This is because as the old structure, which is dependent on God collapses, what will fill the void left by Santa Claus? What I relate is the history of the next two centuries. I describe what is coming, what can no longer come differently: the advent of nihilism. . . . For some time now our whole European culture has been moving as toward a catastrophe. This quote is projecting the consequences of God s death and not long after Nietzsche s time, what he predicted had come to pass. Furthermore, The Death of God has two possible implications. In the short run, the consequences will not be pleasant, but in the long term, they will be. The projected short term implication of this is the rise of Nihilism. Described as ambiguous by Nietzsche, nihilism is an outlook on life that sees life as meaningless. The problem with nihilism is that it still relies on the void left by the external source of direction even though the idea of God that once governed it is dead. In a slightly unbalanced relationship, Beat writers often molded their poetics and style after the playing of such jazz music. Jazz writers, such as Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg, upheld their poetic ideals to the techniques of jazz musicians, such as rhythm, improvisation, and call and response. The structure of creative writing underwent a change, as the importance of form equaled that of theme. Swing, the predecessor of bop, was big, sweet, and hot. The performers were big bands, fronted by a charismatic bandleader, yet the success of a piece depended mostly on the unity of the ensemble as a whole, rather than on the showcasing of prodigious ... Within a song would sometimes hold trading fours, alternating four bar improvisations between instruments. Usually, the piece would end with a restatement of the theme (Jones 42 43). Their music was not as melodic and hyperactive as swing. Subsequently, bop never became an obsession of popular culture, and remained introspective, for a largely introspective Beat culture. The Beat Generation was a movement which rebelled against the social and literary conformity and conservatism of white, middle class, suburban, post war America. The term Beat holds many origins. The gap in these research papers is that they have not yet looked into why it was particularly boys that developed these traits were more prone to delinquent behaviour than girls who did. • 34. Taking a Look at Ancient Empires Ancient Empires such as Gupta, Rome, Maya, and Rome were some important empires. They all have Pros/Cons in their Empire. No empire was perfect, each empire had its own ups and downs. The Romans had a strong military that gained lots of new land compared to the Mayans who did not have a strong military because their military did not help gain lots of land and didn t really defend their land well like the Romans did. Rome had better beliefs and religion such as Roman mythology which had stronger beliefs compared to hinduism in Gupta. Even though, Maya enjoyed good trade such as animal skin, and jade, Romans still had better architecture which was more helpful. Rome has better characteristics compared to the other empires which makes it the most successful. When the idea comes to military, it is important that the military is strong so it can help protect land/people and help the empire in gaining new land. Mayans didn t have a good military compared to the military the Romans had. Furthermore, the Roman s military was strong because they conquered lots of land in places like Italy, Malta, Spain, Portugal, and etc with strong military tactics compared to the Mayan s military which didn t help in gaining lots of new land. Weapons like shield, sandal, gladius, other weapons and smart strategies like the orb helped Romans in achieving lots of new land. • 36. Jamacia Kimcaid s Girl Girl is a story by Jamacia Kimcaid and it is about a mother who has a series of instructions for her daughter on how she should live her life. She constantly accuses and ridicules the girl about being a slut and singing calypso songs in church. She tells the girl how she must plant foods, how she must take care of herself and her house so as not to reveal herself as a slut . Her tone changes towards the end when she tells the girl to touch the bread at the bakery to see if it is right, to which the daughter asks what to do if the baker doesn t let her. The mother then says what kind of girl is she that the baker won t even let her touch bread? The mother is seemingly unreasonable and cruel towards the girl who seems honest and innocent as she listens to her mother s instructions on how to complete the tasks in her life. One theme of this story is that of a jealous or vindictive mother that thinks of her child as no good and commands her to be good she must obey everything she says. Another theme is that there are many unfair double standards put on young women not only by men but by other women as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 37. The Rabbits-Deconstruction of Visual Essay John Marsden s and Shaun Tan s epic picture book, The Rabbits , is an allegorical fable about colonisation, told from the perspective of the natives. An unseen narrator describes the coming of rabbits in the most minimal detail, an encounter that is at first friendly and curious, but later darkens as it becomes apparent that the visitors are actually invaders. My chosen image (above), embodies the overall style of the book which is deliberately sparse and strange. Both text and image conveys an overall sense of bewilderment and anxiety as native numbat like creatures witness the environmental devastation under the wheels of a strange new culture, represented by the rabbits. The image projects a painting of a striking sunset and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This metaphorically suggests that the rabbits have already begun to construct their homes, and now nobody can stop them. Their forceful invasion into the native indigenous landscape is further emphasised by the dead lizard featured in the foreground, which has been brutally squashed with seemingly no remorse. Furthermore, the buildings in the background are entirely formed by jigsaw pieces. Thus Tan presents us with a visual allegory of the rabbit society as manipulative and un relentless nature. The small strip across the top of the visual, presents us with an alternate world that is natural and heaven like where numbat like creatures are suspended upon tree branches. The gaze of the numbat like creatures leads us to the quote, They didn t live in trees like we did . Through the inclusion of text Tan portrays that the numbat like creatures don t understand the rabbits. This quote does not show any strong emotions, but instead the blatant tone bestows a clueless feeling to us, the responders. This section is very small in contrast to the rest of the image showing the rabbits. This symbolically represents the unprecedented manner in which the rabbits came and quickly made their own houses . At observing the picture more closely, we can conclude that where the numbat like creatures are sitting, the sky is lighter compared to where the rabbits are placed; implying that the lighter colour is the time the numbat like creatures were familiar ... • 42. Art In Art, Art And The Art Of Art Drawing is not an activity, but a piece of me that I could never let go of. Drawing has transformed itself from a fun hobby into an essential form of expression. It has transformed the way I look at things; nothing is mundane in art. A tree, for example, is a beautiful thing. Every single tree is unique, with its own bark texture, its own arrangement of branches, and its own color. The limit only gets pushed further when the tree inherits the personality of its artistic creator. Whenever I feel emotionally connected to something, I generally have an impulse to draw it, which strengthens the connection. Both the result and the process are rewarding; it is always possible to improve, challenge, and discuss with other artists. There aren t always right ways to draw things, which allows illustration to evolve throughout time. One room: a dancing lion, a painting cat, and a programming dragon. This notion was embedded in me, just like many others to receive an education so you can support yourself and truly experience the quintessential American Dream. At a very young age in America we are taught to compete in every aspect of life, to fight for ourselves (metaphorically), don t take no for an answer, always get better , and never accept mediocrity , these two phrases are what my high school football coach would preach to the team daily. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... government has done an excellent job of dividing and conquering civilians by humanitarian versus militaristic imperialism (neocons) in politics. The neocons of the Reagan and Dubya s administration was a mixture of military imperialism of Theodore Roosevelt and the idealistic imperialism of Woodrow Wilson (Johnson, 70). This, as you would imagine is the Right or conservative Republican side. On the other dividing side, is what is referred by Johnson and Kumar as the humanitarian imperialist (Kumar, 59; Johnson, 71). Even though this phrase has a positive connotation in the word humanitarian, it also has the word imperialist, which contradict the phrase all together. The Clinton and Obama administrations would be referred to as humanitarian imperialists (Kumar, 59; Johnson, 71). These administrations use rhetoric such as making the world safe for democracy (Johnson, 71). These soft imperialists as Johnson describes are not in any way anti war. The neocons espouse preventative war (Johnson, 70), while the humanitarians consent to war due to an act of force of humanitarianism (Kumar, 59). The September 11th attacks were not due to any sort of humanitarian effort it was an all out nationalistic effort to go to war with the middle east. • 45. The Aftermath Of Colonial Rule On Sub Saharan Africans The aftermath of colonial rule on Sub saharan Africans has been debilitating. It is present in the statistics, cultural changes, politics, and the historical unrest in the post colonial state. European colonists concentrated on the export of Africa s resources, production of cash crops, and profit gained by displacement of ethnic groups, with no focus on African development. In fact, the complete disregard for African nations lead to modern day dependency on foreign economy, hindering Africa even in its emerging independence. W.O. Maloba explains, Economically, colonialism had linked Africa tightly to the world capitalist system dominated by Europe and later the USA. African countries, it needs to be repeated, produced raw materials and imported selected manufactured goods each largely determined by Colonial Capitalism (Decolonization 8). Post colonization did not lead to complete independence for many countries, including Kenya, but a new form from within: Neocolonialism, which carries the power of colonialism under Kenyan rule. On independence and exploitation, Maloba continues, the inherited economical institutions in many countries do not have the capacity to lead to sustained growth development. They were established to exploit and not develop these countries (Decolonization 13). Colonialism, though short lived, entrenched Africa into underdevelopment.
