Examples Of Subcultures
When discussing subcultures it s important to establish what a subculture is to be able to correctly
identify a specific subculture and differentiate it from a main culture. An example of a main culture or
parent culture could be the most prominent culture of Great Britain, which would be its development
from an island to a civilized prospering democratic country. The main culture that is associated with
Britain that separates it from other cultures is that it is seen as a liberal democracy. The main religion
associated with British culture would be Christianity, and most people would generalise British culture
to be drinking tea, eating scones and having a particular posh accent. These small characteristics are

They must be focused around certain activities, values, certain uses of material artefacts, territorial
spaces etc. Which significantly differentiate them from wider culture. But, since they are sub sets,
there must also be significant things which bind and articulate them with their parent culture. (Gelder,
K. et al (2005) The Subculture Reader, New York Routledge). Although this could come across as
contradictory, I believe Gelder is trying say is a subculture is defined by the differences from its parent
cultures, but there is no specific characteristic required to make it a subculture, however there does
have to be something to make it distinguishable from other subcultures, but It should also resemble
characteristics from its parent culture to show its origin and show what it was developed from. There
is a lot of misconception of what a subculture is and it is believed by many that most subcultures
derive from poor, lower class areas however it is not limited to one particular country, class, society,

Leadership Style Of Leadership Styles Essay
Most individuals probably feel as if they know enough about leadership to speak on the subject. In
many cases, however, this is not truly the case at all. Leadership is a broad concept, and there are
several different styles and approaches to consider when studying the topic. It is important to consider
these styles and approaches when evaluating the effectiveness, or lack thereof, of any particular form
of leadership. With that in mind, this essay will consider the leadership styles of two leaders who are
involved in the current presidential election process. Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate, and Gary
Johnson, the Libertarian nominee each utilize different leadership styles, though, the two operate
within the same professional arena. That said, the two candidates share the same battle of being
outsider candidates struggling to gain notoriety and momentum from a portion of the voting
population no longer willing to support mainstream political candidates. This essay begins with a
theoretical discussion of leadership and then focuses on the two political leaders, comparing and
contrasting each one. This will allow for conclusions to be drawn about how they both work within
the same public sphere, while employing different styles to earn votes.
Leadership, according to John Kotter, is about coping with change (Kotter, 1990, p. 4). By this
definition, leadership can be considered the product of change and the different ways that response to
this change directs future

Consciousness and Philosophers of the Mind
Consciousness and Philosophers of Mind
Consciousness is a word used by philosophers, to signify that immediate knowledge which we have of
our present thoughts and purposes, and, in general of all the operations of our mind... [and] if I am
asked to prove that I cannot be deceived by consciousness to prove that it is not a fallacious sense I
can find no proof... (Thomas Reid, referenced by Lehrer, 2008).
Introduction
There are many features of consciousness that philosophers of the mind discuss and debate. Two are
found within the philosophy of Russ McBride; they are: a) ...a conscious creature or subject ; and b) a
conscious mental state (Manson, 2011, 100). Another philosophy professor, Michael Antony, sees two
features that are commonly debated and dissected by scholars in and out of the field of philosophy.
Those features are the conscious state and the conscious creature both of which will be further
developed in this paper. Are mental states always clearly conscious states ? Or are they clearly not
conscious? Antony argues that it is impossible to accept that there could be any borderline cases or
fuzzy boundaries for concepts of consciousness (Antony, 2008). Antony s and other approaches to
consciousness are reviewed and critiqued in this paper.
The Literature on Consciousness
The concept of consciousness is ambiguous and polysemic (having more than one meaning),
according to professor Neil Manson (King s College in London). The fact that

Russia and its Lack of a Government Essay
Russia and its Lack of a Government
The main problem in Russia is lack of a non corrupt government. It is impossible to run any country,
poor or rich, crime or no crime, healthcare or no healthcare, economy or no economy, without some
sort of government. Russia needs assistance in the form of socialist diplomatic support, advice, and
very carefully monitored loans. There is no question of producing a Marshall Plan for Russia of the
sort that the United States pioneered after World War II, but Russia needs to make that plan, and the
U.S. needs to let Russia know that plan will be supported. Although the conditions in Russia differ
significantly from the post war Europe, this struggling nation needs a similar plan to restore it s ...

Faced with such bleak figures, some observers argue that the figures are simply false. There is little
doubt that data collection is plagued with difficulties, and there are fierce debates about methodology.
There are problems that exaggerate, and others which artificially underplay, the true state of Russia s
population. But as Tatiana Khokhlova of the Russian European Centre for Economic Policy in
Moscow argues: It is very difficult to talk about the absolute level of poverty, but you can analyse the
trends. And those trends are distinctly pessimistic.
Government figures often show what citizens are entitled to receive rather than what they do receive.
In 1997, just 20 per cent of income that Russians were entitled to under federal laws was actually paid
(Andrew, POVERTY: Bleak future for the poor ). Since then, arrears on the payment of wages and
social benefits have increased sharply. Pensions are on average paid with a delay of one month at
present, and wages are 2.5 months behind (Andrew, POVERTY: Bleak future for the poor ). Equally,
there is little doubt that Russians conceal the true extent of their income from official surveys as part
of a broader strategy of tax avoidance. A recent World Bank study found that most people admitted to
spending twice what they claimed to earn. Other research suggested that undeclared informal income
had rocketed in the past few years to an average of

Going Back to College as a Single Mom Essay
Going back to college after you have been out of school for quite a few years, had three children, been
married, and divorced is a lot harder than I ever imagined. It takes hard work, dedication, and missing
out on the little things previously taken for granted. I miss taking naps the most. I believe if you can
tough it out through the worst days, you can finish school and provide a better life for your children
and yourself. You need a lot of willpower and a large sense of humor. Set your alarm at least an hour
before you really need to get out of the bed. If you set the alarm for an earlier hour you get to hit the

Start helping the kids to get ready for school. When you start looking for shoes, do not forget places
such as the trampoline, under the kitchen table, in the couch, and on top of the aquarium. This will
help speed up the process of getting the kids ready before the bus arrives. Once the bus does pull up to
the driveway send the kids on their way. Remember that standing outside in your pajamas and waving
until the bus is out of sight does not embarrass your children. These actions show them how much you
love them no matter what they say. Get yourself ready for the school day. Warm up your second cup of

Chinese Gunpowder Research Paper
The Chinese developed the first compass as early as the 3rd century B.C.E. The first Chinese
compasses were pieces of a magnetic mineral called lodestone. Earth itself is like a giant magnet with
north and south poles. Because lodestone is magnetic, it is influenced by Earth s magnetic poles. If
you put a piece of lodestone on wood and float it in a bowl of water, the lodestone will turn until it
points in a north south direction.
The Chinese also made sea travel safer by improving boat construction. By the 2nd century C.E., they
started building ships with separate, watertight compartments. Builders divided the ships into sections
and sealed each section with caulk, a sealant that keeps out water. If there were a leak, it would be

Abstract
We will discuss in this paper the data warehousing and the online processing of data. We will describe
the best ways to manage the data and the difficulties that you could face. Also we will talk about how
can we solve or reduce these difficulties.
Database Management Systems (DBMS)
Database Management Systems (DBMS) maximize:
● Data security
● Data integrity
● Data independence
Data Warehousing
Data warehousing is a powerful business intelligence tool for maximizing the organization s
investment in the information technology. It is can be describe as a collection of decision support
technologies, maid to allow executive, manager, and analyst, to make faster decisions.
IT managers need to learn and implement data warehousing because it is very powerful tool provides
storage, functionality and responsiveness to queries beyond the capabilities of today s databases. It
also improves the data access performance. Since it is very rare today to remove the data because most
users have only read access also rapid access to a larger volume of data which could be inconvenient
sometimes.
Software and systems support started to design systems to support decision makers as online
analytical processing (OLAP), decision support systems (DSS) and data mining.

The IQ Debate Essay
Intelligence can be defined in many different ways. This concept has been the focus of numerous
studies and investigations by psychologists and other scientific experts. Intelligence can be the mental
ability to reason, plan ahead, understand a wide range of complex issues and learn from past
experiences (Gottfredson, 1997). Intelligence is the resultant of the process of acquiring, storing in
memory, retrieving, combining, comparing, and using in new contexts information and conceptual
skills (Humphreys, 1979)
Intelligence is commonly measured through the use of a number of scales and quantitative measures,
like the Intelligence Quotient (IQ), developed by Alfred Binet in early 20th century to identify which

Far right commentators generally support this argument, which has been supported by the findings of
a number of researches, including those led by Professor Robert Plomin
(http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/850358.stm). They have also utilised these arguments to explain a
wide range of social phenomena, including crime. Other experts have strongly disagreed with this
view, arguing that intelligence levels are directly related to situational factors. Environmental factors
like the quality of the education system can have a very significant influence in the development of
intelligence. Situational factors have been used by psychologists to explain a wide range of
phenomena. A great number of sociologists, psychologists and criminologist have studied the
circumstances and background that makes crime possible, in order to identify the main reasons and
causes of crime by looking at the learning process that generates crime. The use of IQ to explain
deviancy and crime has greatly influenced the debates of psychologists in this respect.
In this respect, studies like those carried out by Sutherland have looked at the role played by
psychological issues and disorders. The Differential Association Theory was a theory on crime and
deviancy developed by Edwin Sutherland during the thirties. Unlike other experts like Eleanor and
Sheldon Glueck, who stated that deviancy is generated by numerous factors, Sutherland

The Bible, The Word `` Covenant ``
Despite the continuous disobedience and failures from God s people, His love for humanity is so deep
and faithful that He made promises to His people so that they would rebuild their relationship and
fellowship with Him once again. In the Bible, the word covenant is used to describe the relationship
between both God and man. God blesses those who receive the promises because of their faith and
their commitments to His commandments. His covenants with His people give an important theme for
Christianity because it still upholds truth to today s society and future generations to come.
The first covenant God made with His people after the fall of Adam and Eve was the Noahic covenant.
This covenant was made during the time where only one man Noah, was able to make God smile and
stay faithful to God s plan despite the continuous sinful actions made by the other people. This
covenant shows God s grace towards humanity and their disobedience towards His commands. The
Noahic covenant lays down the foundation for the existence of humankind. It also addresses in
particular the matter of capital punishment that took place during this time. Genesis 9:12 13 states,
And God said, This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living
creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it
will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. This covenant was set after God flooded

Summary Of Short Story By Rabindranath Tagore
Through the story, Tagore is primarily concerned with criticism of social behaviour, which he
condemns without didacticism but also without complacency. Women, in Tagore s short stories is most
often a living dead, a known person whom society deprives of independence. At first subjected to her
father, then to her husband, and at last to her son. They are caught in a conflict between the individual
aspirations and social demands. They are torn between self expression and social stigmas (
psychological and material ). In the story, the writer deals with a contrast between good and evil,
innocence and experience, life and death. He blends in it the techniques of psycho analysis and being
unconscious factors (forging a short span of death) to interpret her existence at social and personal
levels. The author leads the audience to participate emotionally in the protagonist s conflict with her
own unconscious experience. He aims his audience to achieve a state of awareness, which implies
both an intellectual perception of the wholeness of situations and more importantly emotionally
behaviour of the turmoiled life. The story also maintains the impact of Aristotle s theory Catharsis as
by the catastrophic end of Kadambini, the audience is purged of the emotions of pity and fear . Tagore
s short stories divulge in many psychological emotions which are acknowledged through his
characters. His main interest is the inner man , the sou l or the psyche of the individual

Culture in Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer’s Book...
Culture Industry: Enlightenment as Mass Deception is a chapter in Theodor Adorno and Max
Horkheimer s book Dialectic of Enlightenment it goes onto discus the conflicts presented by the
culture industry. Adorno states that the culture industry is a main phenomenon of late capitalism,
encompassing all products from Hollywood films, to advertisements, and even extending to musical
compositions. Adorno is very deliberate in noting the term culture industry over mass culture this was
done to specifically distinguish, that it is not to be understood as something which spontaneously
stems from the masses themselves. Products of the culture economy take on the appearance of artwork
but are in fact dependant on industry and economy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author goes on to explain that the public refrains from criticizing the media because they are
dependent upon it. They need the culture industry in order to achieve pleasure and satisfaction and
cannot imaging their lives without it. The industry preserves its power by presenting an ideal of the
good life as reality and through false conflicts that trade him for his real ones. The industry spreads
false values and establishes the individual s willingness to be a part of society and to coordinate his
interests with it. Adorno also states that the culture industry takes advantage of the weaker classes by
making its content shallow and widely appealing and thus demoting the value of culture Everyone
knows that they are helpless within the system, and ideology must take account for this The main
argument behind the article is that the commodification of culture is the commodification of human
awareness. The culture industry provides easy entertainment which is able to distract the masses from
the wrongs of a capitalist ruling order. It goes onto argue that the culture industry has over taken
reality and the way that it is experienced, where it completely shapes and conditions the experiences
we have creating an alternate reality of consumerism. Popular culture gives the allusion of a
distraction from our everyday lives, but in fact it causes those consuming to further dwell into

Over the summer, I was able to observe an ELL students through the children s Sunday school at my

and give it meaning. Syntax on the other hand was a little more challenging for him because he could

On Laziness By Christopher Morley Summary
Generally, lazy people are not admired. Society, as a whole, prefers those who are willing and able to
actively and positively contribute to its progress. Effort is praised while indifference can typically be
seen as shameful. Christopher Morley understands this. In his short essay, On Laziness, he indirectly
confronts the slothful in an effort to make them see the error of their ways. Morley deals with the topic
of laziness in a overly sarcastic and satirical tone to stress the absurdity of the trait. Early in his essay,
Morley utilizes irony that made it evident that his essay on the supposed benefits of laziness is meant
to be treated as a satire. He in no way is actually believing what he is explicitly stating. The opening
statement can only reasonably be viewed as an intentional joke. Morley claims that he intends to write
an essay on Laziness but [is] too indolent to [even] do so. Yet, the paper does not end here; he
continues on and completes an entire academic essay, blatantly contradicting his first sentence in it. If
Morley stays true to his words and fully believes in the value of idleness, no work would have been
made to defend it. He makes the sarcasm even more obvious through his deliberate choice of words.
While criticizing activeness and energy, Morley spoke of having a determined effort to be more
languid and demure. It is paradoxical to try to be lazy. Putting in effort and making an attempt to be so
goes against its basic definition. Morley provides examples of where laziness was shown to be
virtuous. However, he purposely makes them flawed and highly debatable, forcing the slothful to
consider if there is in actuality a strong case for their behavior. Morley initially calls upon recent
history for proof. He reminds the audience of the Great War the essay being written in 1920 shortly
after it ended and declares that the world would have been spared a great deal... if the Germans had
been as lazy, as indifferent, and as righteously laissez fairish as their neighbours... This is a bold claim.
War is an atrocious ordeal whose causes are complex and cannot solely be blamed on one group of
people. Many including the toughest advocate for indolence will not support the idea that the

world, but even more so specifically for those living in the Middle East. After the United States
invaded Iraq due to the belief that they had weapons of mass destruction, Saddam Hussein was killed,
and the country was forever changed. Three of the many cultural practices in Iraq include food,
marriage, and education. In the Middle East the the traditional meal includes rice with soup or sauce,

marriage at a young age was a standard procedure. As of roles in the family, girls were mostly taught

boys were taught to be hard working and dominate. In Iraq, their schools teach children about religion
and were very strict. A critical factor in everyday life for them is to hold values and claim
responsibility for themselves and their families. The majority of Iraqis practice the Muslim religion
but there is still a small percentage of Iraqis that practice the Christian religion. For example, every

Christians, Sundays are a holy day for prayer

Ocean Exploration The ocean is a scary place, and to be honest, the similarly terrifying land agrees.
Taking up 70% of the earth, a majority of the vast ocean still remains unexplored. The exploration of
the ocean, however, presents itself as quite complicated due to the fact that humans can t breathe or
live under water. There is also a bit of a transportation difficulty because it is proven that people can t
just drive cars through the water in attempt to later use them to collect valuable data. These
complications are definitely an obstacle, but with the right technology, anything is possible. The

Hierarchical Issues From The Contextual Investigation Of...
Hierarchical issues are assorted and they can show themselves inside the association in a way that
might be hard to identify. These issues if not identified before, can keep the association from
accomplishing its set objectives and goal. More or less authoritative issues are hierarchical issues that
can obstruct the smooth operation of the association. They go from worker business related issues to
hierarchical auxiliary related issues (Lorenzi and Riley, 2003). As a rule the hidden reason for these
issues inside the association is absence of open stream of data or notwithstanding utilizing incorrectly
hierarchical structure. From the contextual investigation of Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant, there are a
few authoritative issues that are clear and have come about into hierarchical clash. These issues
present themselves nearly in all associations. It is accordingly imperative for the administration of any
association to guarantee they have viable procedures to manage any issue that may emerge inside the
association since inability to address such issues may result to significantly more issues inside the
association. The absolute most regular authoritative issues that present themselves practically in all
associations include:

story the other sniper was distinguished clearly as his enemy, which emphasized that he put his job

be considered and laid emphasis on in this paper is the ethnic classification. The rich cultural diversity
that the Indian Americans and African Americans brought into America can be identified through their
cultures and how they interact and relate to one another. Through this paper, I will discuss the
elements of each culture, compare and contrast the differences and similarities and how the two may
interact with the dominant group as minority groups.
African Americans
Most of the African Americans in the United States have their roots deeply embedded in Africa. The
Africans were held captive in the US from 1555 to 1865 when the slave trade was rampant (Tishkoff,

are no longer accepted in English and currently people of the ethnic group are referred to as African
Americans or Blacks. The Blacks originated from the numerous ethnic groups from mainly the Central

Cesar Chavez Civil Rights Movement Summary
The Civil Rights Movement, led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., played a massive role in American
history and it did so not through a revolution of savagery, but one of peace. The right to peaceably
assemble for change has always been a staple in American society, defined as a right in the first
amendment to the Constitution, ensuring that everyone could protest and call for peaceful action
without being persecuted by the government. In 1978, Cesar Chavez wrote an article addressing the
usefulness of nonviolent resistance, especially referring to Dr. King s Civil Rights Movement. His
usage of juxtaposition, logical fallacies, and unifying diction assist in Chavez s attempt to drive the
point that nonviolent resistance is the greatest way to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So is the case for Cesar Chavez and the argument he develops in favor of peaceful protests. Case in
point: Chavez makes a rather blunt claim that If we resort to violence, he one of two things will
happen: either [it] will be escalated and there will be [losses] on both sides, or there will be total
demoralization of the workers (Chavez 17 21), assuming that these are the only two possible options
creates an either/or fallacy error, it is entirely possible that there are other options. Perhaps one side
will emerge entirely victorious over the other, there are an untold number of other options that could
be available. Chavez also utilizes appeals to pity to convince readers that his movement is morally
superior to that of standard groups pushing for change. This is evident when Chavez writes that he
believes that ...when poor people are faced with a direct appeal from the poor struggling nonviolently
against great odds, they will react positively (Chavez 27 30) and that [his movement] can gather the
support of millions who have a conscience... (Chavez 24 25). Chavez s usage of the phrase people
who have a conscience alone manipulates the logic of regular people by convincing them that if they
aren t a part of nonviolent resistance, then they have no conscience, which clearly is not the case as
people can choose to not involve themselves whatsoever and still have a clear moral compass in line
with that of a reasonable society. Chavez s bandwagoning claims that The American people and
people everywhere still yearn for peace (Chavez 30 31) so as to convince the audience that since so
many people already yearn for justice, that they should as well. Besides these fallacies, Chavez
utilizes one far more than any

The American Dream And Its Means Of The American Dream
The American dream is what maintains the steady flow of immigrants into America. Overtime the
American dream has given a new hope to immigrants. People come to America in hopes to improve
their lives in a way that makes them happy to be apart of the country. When people immigrate to this
country and contribute to the betterment of society, they become American. When people look at this
country and the citizens from the outside, they do not always see what Americans see as being
American. Being American has taken on many different meanings over the years. What it means to be
an American is a complex definition, however, three words that can best describe what it means to be
an American are equal, free, and prosperous. In America, the idea of equality for all has been brought
up and debated since the birth of the country. People argue that every man is created equal, however, it
is clear that not every man is truly equal. Whether it be in stature, power, or well being, not every man
is the same. In America, this idea has been modified and revised to mean that every man has the same
rights no matter what race or what background they come from. During the independence period in
America, The Bill of Rights was amended into the constitution to preserve ten rights for all of the
American citizens. These rights cannot be taken away regardless of what race, gender, or social class
one is. One of the most important rights that cannot be taken away is stated in Amendment I:

When an album enters into the realm of reverence, it is attached with an increasingly difficult to break

be scoffed at or ignored. We lose the ability to critique when some sort of consensus has been
achieved. The critical hivemind encourages us to move forward and accept the established
masterpieces as masterpieces. And without a potential for hindsight, the worst portions of albums
belonging to this universal canon are left without scrutiny. This is not to say that a classic album is

Aristotle s Life And Political Beliefs Of Aristotle And...
Aristotle:
Aristotle preserves pleasure as a central resolve of human life as a goal. Therefore, he is more
attracted to the subject of happiness than any philosopher prior to the era. Living during the ancient
times same as Mencius, but on the opposing side of the world, he attracts similar conclusions.
Happiness depends on the cultivation of the asset of virtue, however his virtues are rather distinctive
social qualities of the Confucians. Aristotle was influenced to have a genuinely happy life. the serenity
of a broad range of conditions, including but not limited to physical as well as mental well being. The
idea of the science of happiness in the traditional sense, in terms of a new field of facts.
Essentially, Aristotle argues that virtue is realized by maintaining the Mean, which is the balance
between two extravagances. Aristotle s principle of the Mean is suggestive of Buddha s Middle Path,
but there are fascinating differences. For Aristotle the unkind method of attaining virtue; for
Buddhism, the Middle Path referred to a peaceful way of life which negotiated the extremes of self
discipline and physical pleasure seeking. The Middle Path was a minimal requirement for the
reflective life, and not the source of virtue.

Colombia And The Colombian Armed Conflict
Introduction
Colombia is facing an internal armed conflict for more than six decades. The causes for the
Colombian armed conflict can be more than one which include the conflict over land ownership, the
existence of marked economic differences, the pursuit of civilians because of their political
orientation. It also highlights the persistence of guerrillas with communist orientation and the
existence of drug traffickers that have involved their corruption to all levels of the Colombian sociaty.
The narco guerrillas and drug traffickers have given the idea to make a lot of money easy and fast. So
culturally in Colombia many people believe in this concept for that reason there is a lot of corruption
in Colombia, people porsuit this idea. The corruption in Colombia is much seen in the misuse or abuse
of public power for private or personal gains, meaning that this phenomenon is not limited to civil
servants, it is also defined as the set of attitudes and activities through which a person violates
commitments made himself, using the privileges granted, those agreements made with the aim of

Irony In The Most Dangerous Game
Irony and imagery are both important writing tools, used to guide the reader through the story while
keeping them engaged and thinking about the story complexly. When used together successfully, the
reader can walk away with something to think about, a new perspective on something they might have
thought different about before. When considering this, I would argue that The Most Dangerous Game,
is overall a better story than The Necklace .
In both stories, irony is used to to teach a lesson. In Richard Cowell s The Most Dangerous Game, he
tells a story of a hunter who is put into the place of the hunted. At the beginning of the story the
protagonist, Reinsford, boasts about the extravagant nature of hunting for sport. The best sport in the

By the end Reinsford feels sympathy for the hunted, being able to relate to the animals directly. The
irony used in this story is easily relatable to the reader, everyone at one point in time has had some
sort of drastic change in opinion. Whether it is about something as relative as the quality of a story, or
something considerably more important, like what makes something s life important, we have all had
that feeling. On the other hand, we have The Necklace, by Guy De Maupassant. Maupassant s use of
irony is less relatable and more comedic. He does this very well, oh my poor Mathilde, but mine was

Wherever he goes, the monster cannot find a person who accepts his way of being. This is shown in
the different villages the monster visits. we see that the monster is attacked and harassed by the
villagers. The rejection of the monster by the villagers is a symbol of rejection as it may happen when
someone is introduced to a new culture which does not accept him.

Juxtaposed To Autonomies Analysis
Aphra Behns, 1688 novella purveys the experiences of coloured womanhood in relationship to a
patriarchal framework, and the dominant forces of manhood, and whiteness. Behns writings
personifies the experiences of coloured womanhood through the characterization of Imoindia. A
characterization which decentralises coloured womanhood; reduced to an ornamental configuration
which is exchanged through white and male cantered discourses and acts of sexual violation; solely
existent as a commodity which is ultimately consumable. Such an illustration is juxtaposed to
autonomies and agencies allotted to narrator and Oroonoko, imploring t the responder to examine and

The Deforestation of the Ecuadorian Amazon Essay
The Amazon is a vast region spanning across Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela,
Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana (Walker, Cesareo 2014). Possessing the most developed
rainforest of anywhere in the world, over two thirds of all the fresh water and 20% of the earth s
oxygen are produced in the Amazons (wcupa.edu). Despite the vital role of the Amazons, the rapid
deforestation continues to affect the ecosystem. (Mainville, et al, 2006). The main causes of
deforestation include unsustainable logging, agriculture, invasive species, fire, fuel wood gathering,
and livestock grazing. The widespread of this issue has become an important consideration in global
policy processes that deal with biodiversity, climate change, and ... Show more content on

Soil erosion is a natural process in which wind and water remove soil. The removal of the soil roughly
occurs at the same rate soil is formed. But accelerated soil erosion, is a far more recent problem. The
result is mankind s unwise actions, such as overgrazing or unsuitable cultivation practices (Collins,
2001). Recent studies link deforestation to the accelerating soil erosion process and to the leaching of
naturally occurring mercury (Mainville, et al., 2006). The acceleration of soil erosion then leads to
land infertility affecting local and worldwide (Pimentel, et al. 1995). Forest fragmentation is another
hazard of deforestation. According to the EPA, the fragmentation process breaks up large parts of
forest into smaller pieces. Continuous fragmentation may accelerate global warming by releasing
carbon stored in trees (Wade, T., 2003) The Ecuador Amazonian native communities are experiencing
the environmental impacts in their flora and fauna as well as risks to their health. Infectious disease
dynamics are being altered in animals and humans, strongly affecting cross species infection rates
(Pongsiri, et al 2009). Biodiversity loss may increase species into atypical ecological interactions,
which facilitate transmission. Diseases such as Lyme disease, Malaria, and Yellow Fever Possibly can
be associated with deforestation (Wilcox Ellis, 2006). In the Napo

Anabolic-Androgenic Steroids Research Paper
Anabolic Androgenic Steroid Abuse
In any competition it is common for the participants to try any way possible to get the winning edge.
This is extremely prominent in athletics all across the world. One of the most popular methods of
gaining a competitive edge is the use of anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS). In the Texas Public
Health Journal, Mathias B. Forrester explains: Anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS), commonly known
as anabolic steroids, are a family of hormones that include the natural male hormone testosterone...
These hormones have anabolic ( muscle building ) and androgenic ( masculinizing ) effects, resulting
in increased muscle strength and athletic performance, at times beyond what could be attained
naturally (7).
Steroid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When used in the correct way there can be the desired results of increased muscle mass, higher
athletic performance, and an increased strength. While this is true, even some moderate and correct
usage has its negative side effects. The use of AASs in professional athletes is actually banned in
almost every professional sport. In an article written by Josh Hidnok on vpxsports.com, the use of
anabolic steroids in the NFL has been banned since 1987 (longer than any other sport), and they are
adding more variations of the drugs to the list every year (n.p.). So even the NFL has seen the negative
effects of these steroids and banned them with serious consequences of any violator. Another positive
effect for a body builder using these steroids is increase in muscle mass. For a professional lifter, this
is a great benefit. However, when a user has realized how well the steroid is working they tend to
increase the dosage to continue becoming bigger and leaner. Slowly, the AAS user will either become
dependent on the steroid or abuse it. Either of these two things can lead to the many negative
symptoms described earlier. While it is possible to use AAS in a responsible way, the negatives still
outweigh the positives of using this

An example of a main culture or parent culture could be the most prominent culture of Great Britain, which would be its development from an island to a civilized prospering democratic country. The main culture that is associated with Britain that separates it from other cultures is that it is seen as a liberal democracy. The main religion associated with British culture would be Christianity, and most people would generalise British culture to be drinking tea, eating scones and having a particular posh accent. • 3. Leadership Style Of Leadership Styles Essay Most individuals probably feel as if they know enough about leadership to speak on the subject. In many cases, however, this is not truly the case at all. Leadership is a broad concept, and there are several different styles and approaches to consider when studying the topic. It is important to consider these styles and approaches when evaluating the effectiveness, or lack thereof, of any particular form of leadership. With that in mind, this essay will consider the leadership styles of two leaders who are involved in the current presidential election process. Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate, and Gary Johnson, the Libertarian nominee each utilize different leadership styles, though, the two operate within the same professional arena. That said, the two candidates share the same battle of being outsider candidates struggling to gain notoriety and momentum from a portion of the voting population no longer willing to support mainstream political candidates. This essay begins with a theoretical discussion of leadership and then focuses on the two political leaders, comparing and contrasting each one. This will allow for conclusions to be drawn about how they both work within the same public sphere, while employing different styles to earn votes. Leadership, according to John Kotter, is about coping with change (Kotter, 1990, p. 4). By this definition, leadership can be considered the product of change and the different ways that response to this change directs future ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

[and] if I am asked to prove that I cannot be deceived by consciousness to prove that it is not a fallacious sense I can find no proof... (Thomas Reid, referenced by Lehrer, 2008). Introduction There are many features of consciousness that philosophers of the mind discuss and debate. Two are found within the philosophy of Russ McBride; they are: a) ...a conscious creature or subject ; and b) a conscious mental state (Manson, 2011, 100). Another philosophy professor, Michael Antony, sees two features that are commonly debated and dissected by scholars in and out of the field of philosophy. Those features are the conscious state and the conscious creature both of which will be further developed in this paper. Are mental states always clearly conscious states ? Or are they clearly not conscious? Antony argues that it is impossible to accept that there could be any borderline cases or fuzzy boundaries for concepts of consciousness (Antony, 2008). Antony s and other approaches to consciousness are reviewed and critiqued in this paper. The Literature on Consciousness The concept of consciousness is ambiguous and polysemic (having more than one meaning), according to professor Neil Manson (King s College in London). It is impossible to run any country, poor or rich, crime or no crime, healthcare or no healthcare, economy or no economy, without some sort of government. Russia needs assistance in the form of socialist diplomatic support, advice, and very carefully monitored loans. There is no question of producing a Marshall Plan for Russia of the sort that the United States pioneered after World War II, but Russia needs to make that plan, and the U.S. needs to let Russia know that plan will be supported. Faced with such bleak figures, some observers argue that the figures are simply false. There is little doubt that data collection is plagued with difficulties, and there are fierce debates about methodology. There are problems that exaggerate, and others which artificially underplay, the true state of Russia s population. But as Tatiana Khokhlova of the Russian European Centre for Economic Policy in Moscow argues: It is very difficult to talk about the absolute level of poverty, but you can analyse the trends. And those trends are distinctly pessimistic. Government figures often show what citizens are entitled to receive rather than what they do receive. In 1997, just 20 per cent of income that Russians were entitled to under federal laws was actually paid (Andrew, POVERTY: Bleak future for the poor ). Since then, arrears on the payment of wages and social benefits have increased sharply. Pensions are on average paid with a delay of one month at present, and wages are 2.5 months behind (Andrew, POVERTY: Bleak future for the poor ). Equally, there is little doubt that Russians conceal the true extent of their income from official surveys as part of a broader strategy of tax avoidance. A recent World Bank study found that most people admitted to spending twice what they claimed to earn. Other research suggested that undeclared informal income had rocketed in the past few years to an average of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Intelligence can be the mental ability to reason, plan ahead, understand a wide range of complex issues and learn from past experiences (Gottfredson, 1997). Intelligence is the resultant of the process of acquiring, storing in memory, retrieving, combining, comparing, and using in new contexts information and conceptual skills (Humphreys, 1979) Intelligence is commonly measured through the use of a number of scales and quantitative measures, like the Intelligence Quotient (IQ), developed by Alfred Binet in early 20th century to identify which French children needed ... They have also utilised these arguments to explain a wide range of social phenomena, including crime. Other experts have strongly disagreed with this view, arguing that intelligence levels are directly related to situational factors. Environmental factors like the quality of the education system can have a very significant influence in the development of intelligence. Situational factors have been used by psychologists to explain a wide range of phenomena. A great number of sociologists, psychologists and criminologist have studied the circumstances and background that makes crime possible, in order to identify the main reasons and causes of crime by looking at the learning process that generates crime. The use of IQ to explain deviancy and crime has greatly influenced the debates of psychologists in this respect. In this respect, studies like those carried out by Sutherland have looked at the role played by psychological issues and disorders. The Bible, The Word `` Covenant `` Despite the continuous disobedience and failures from God s people, His love for humanity is so deep and faithful that He made promises to His people so that they would rebuild their relationship and fellowship with Him once again. In the Bible, the word covenant is used to describe the relationship between both God and man. God blesses those who receive the promises because of their faith and their commitments to His commandments. His covenants with His people give an important theme for Christianity because it still upholds truth to today s society and future generations to come. The first covenant God made with His people after the fall of Adam and Eve was the Noahic covenant. This covenant was made during the time where only one man Noah, was able to make God smile and stay faithful to God s plan despite the continuous sinful actions made by the other people. This covenant shows God s grace towards humanity and their disobedience towards His commands. The Noahic covenant lays down the foundation for the existence of humankind. It also addresses in particular the matter of capital punishment that took place during this time. Summary Of Short Story By Rabindranath Tagore Through the story, Tagore is primarily concerned with criticism of social behaviour, which he condemns without didacticism but also without complacency. Women, in Tagore s short stories is most often a living dead, a known person whom society deprives of independence. At first subjected to her father, then to her husband, and at last to her son. They are caught in a conflict between the individual aspirations and social demands. They are torn between self expression and social stigmas ( psychological and material ). In the story, the writer deals with a contrast between good and evil, innocence and experience, life and death. He blends in it the techniques of psycho analysis and being unconscious factors (forging a short span of death) to interpret her existence at social and personal levels. The author leads the audience to participate emotionally in the protagonist s conflict with her own unconscious experience. He aims his audience to achieve a state of awareness, which implies both an intellectual perception of the wholeness of situations and more importantly emotionally behaviour of the turmoiled life. The story also maintains the impact of Aristotle s theory Catharsis as by the catastrophic end of Kadambini, the audience is purged of the emotions of pity and fear . • 16. On Laziness By Christopher Morley Summary Generally, lazy people are not admired. Society, as a whole, prefers those who are willing and able to actively and positively contribute to its progress. Effort is praised while indifference can typically be seen as shameful. Christopher Morley understands this. In his short essay, On Laziness, he indirectly confronts the slothful in an effort to make them see the error of their ways. Morley deals with the topic of laziness in a overly sarcastic and satirical tone to stress the absurdity of the trait. Early in his essay, Morley utilizes irony that made it evident that his essay on the supposed benefits of laziness is meant to be treated as a satire. He in no way is actually believing what he is explicitly stating. The opening statement can only reasonably be viewed as an intentional joke. Morley claims that he intends to write an essay on Laziness but [is] too indolent to [even] do so. Yet, the paper does not end here; he continues on and completes an entire academic essay, blatantly contradicting his first sentence in it. If Morley stays true to his words and fully believes in the value of idleness, no work would have been made to defend it. He makes the sarcasm even more obvious through his deliberate choice of words. While criticizing activeness and energy, Morley spoke of having a determined effort to be more languid and demure. It is paradoxical to try to be lazy. Putting in effort and making an attempt to be so goes against its basic definition. Morley provides examples of where laziness was shown to be virtuous. However, he purposely makes them flawed and highly debatable, forcing the slothful to consider if there is in actuality a strong case for their behavior. Morley initially calls upon recent history for proof. He reminds the audience of the Great War the essay being written in 1920 shortly after it ended and declares that the world would have been spared a great deal... if the Germans had been as lazy, as indifferent, and as righteously laissez fairish as their neighbours... This is a bold claim. War is an atrocious ordeal whose causes are complex and cannot solely be blamed on one group of people. These issues if not identified before, can keep the association from accomplishing its set objectives and goal. More or less authoritative issues are hierarchical issues that can obstruct the smooth operation of the association. They go from worker business related issues to hierarchical auxiliary related issues (Lorenzi and Riley, 2003). As a rule the hidden reason for these issues inside the association is absence of open stream of data or notwithstanding utilizing incorrectly hierarchical structure. From the contextual investigation of Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant, there are a few authoritative issues that are clear and have come about into hierarchical clash. These issues present themselves nearly in all associations. It is accordingly imperative for the administration of any association to guarantee they have viable procedures to manage any issue that may emerge inside the association since inability to address such issues may result to significantly more issues inside the association. The right to peaceably assemble for change has always been a staple in American society, defined as a right in the first amendment to the Constitution, ensuring that everyone could protest and call for peaceful action without being persecuted by the government. Perhaps one side will emerge entirely victorious over the other, there are an untold number of other options that could be available. Chavez also utilizes appeals to pity to convince readers that his movement is morally superior to that of standard groups pushing for change. This is evident when Chavez writes that he believes that ...when poor people are faced with a direct appeal from the poor struggling nonviolently against great odds, they will react positively (Chavez 27 30) and that [his movement] can gather the support of millions who have a conscience... Overtime the American dream has given a new hope to immigrants. People come to America in hopes to improve their lives in a way that makes them happy to be apart of the country. When people immigrate to this country and contribute to the betterment of society, they become American. When people look at this country and the citizens from the outside, they do not always see what Americans see as being American. Being American has taken on many different meanings over the years. What it means to be an American is a complex definition, however, three words that can best describe what it means to be an American are equal, free, and prosperous. In America, the idea of equality for all has been brought up and debated since the birth of the country. People argue that every man is created equal, however, it is clear that not every man is truly equal. Whether it be in stature, power, or well being, not every man is the same. In America, this idea has been modified and revised to mean that every man has the same rights no matter what race or what background they come from. During the independence period in America, The Bill of Rights was amended into the constitution to preserve ten rights for all of the American citizens.
