Joe Watson Research Paper
Why to Maintain your Hobbies After Joe Watson had been told he was deathly allergic to the
sun and his frail lungs would not allow him breathe the outside air, also not to mention his high
level of paranoia for potential of getting robbed outside at night, he decided that he would never
leave his home for the rest of his life. He had done everything right he went to a liberal arts
college, got a salary job at a local car manufacturer, married a beautiful woman he loved, started a
family, and continued to work hard. But after his health issues arose during his retirement and his
wife had passed, the time to stay inside was now. First, he remodeled the small laundry room to not

anxious all day, it was time for Joe to execute his plan. He snuck out the back door of his home
after unlocking all 6 locks on it and he walked around the corner to first check his air conditioner.
It was in perfect condition as expected. Then came the trash compactors, this check took a little
longer because of the compactor s complexity, but it was in working order, with full loads of trash
and recycling in the proper bins. Then came his garden and it was far from how Joe had left

Health Promotion Is A Process Of Empowerment
The main purpose of this essay is to provide a critical analysis of....Discussion will centre round the
importance of utilising health promotion to reduce health inequalities.
Health promotion is a process of empowerment which enables communities and individuals to
strengthen control over the determinants of health in order to achieve their fullest potential. (WHO
2008) 1The rationale for health promotion derives from the opportunity to prevent ill health and
reduce inequalities through the promotion of health and healthy living. It incorporates a broad
range of interventions, measures, approaches and activities to enhance the health of populations,
individuals and the communities in which they live. Earle (2007) 2 intimated that anyone
concerned with trying to facilitate change or influence and improve health needs to recognise what
people mean when they talk about health. He proposes that understanding why people behave in a
certain way when it comes to their health and lifestyle choices can ultimately influence the way in
which health promotion interventions are coordinated, designed, communicated and implemented
by the health professionals as they work towards health improvement. Tones and Green 3(2004)
agree that a definition of health can provide a firm premise for practice in promoting health and has
implications for theory, practice policy and promotion of public health. The World Health
Organisation (1986) 4 defines health as

The Assessment Of Water Quality And Stream Health Essay
cology Lab Four: The Assessment of Water Quality and Stream Health in Local (Lowell MA)
Freshwater Systems via the Analysis of Biotic and Abiotic Indicators Abstract: Overall the
objective of this lab exercise was to introduce students to watershed ecology and the ecological
factors that affect water quality. Students used biotic (macroinvertebrates ) and abiotic
indicators to asses the quality of water in a freshwater body. Specifically students collected
water chemistry data (hardness, nitrate/phosphate concentrations, dissolved O2 and pH) to
asses the quality of water. Additionally macroinvertebrates from the benthic environment of a
respective field site were collected, analyzed as well as catalogued. Collectively the results
indicated that a greater species diversity was indicative of greater water quality(Lenat). Likewise
within a freshwater ecosystems a negative correlation was found to exist between fluctuating
abiotic factors, species diversity and water quality. It can be concluded that amongst the three
field sites the ranking of water quality from highest to lowest is as follows; Great Brook Farm,
Russell Mill pond, Lawrence Street Stream. Introduction: There are two categories for bodies of
freshwater, these are lentic and lotic. A lentic body of water in stationary such as a lake or pond
and a lotic body of water is flowing such as a river or stream. Lentic or lotic, a productive body of
freshwater is a resource that provides water for drinking, agriculture,

Karen Carlin Case
Memo
To: Ms. Boyce, Chief Executive Officer
From: Student, Personnel Management Consultant
Subject: Karen Carlin Case Study: Issue Analysis and Proposed Solutions
Date: 21 October 2010
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this memo is to analyze and propose solutions for the issues Karen Carlin faces as
she takes on the supervisor role for the schedule typist department of Hepplewhite Boyce. The
three issues to be analyzed are (1) lack of productivity, (2) insubordination and abuse of company
resources, and (3) staff mismanagement. First, the problems will be defined and probable causes
discussed. Then, recommendations will be made to resolve these issues.

She has also been known to report to work, only to leave the office for hours at a time doing
personal errands. Pat is influencing the others to take long lunches and be late for work as well.
This blatant abuse can be attributed to the following possible causes:
1.The employees are not challenged.
2.The employees resent management for not listening to their ideas regarding process improvement.
Clearly, the insubordination and abuse of company resources cannot be allowed to continue. Staff
Mismanagement
And finally, there is the issue of staff mismanagement. The supervisor, Keith Frazier, is only
checking in with this department one to two times per week. Mr. Frazier is aware that Pat is
making international phone calls. He is also aware that Pauline found a way for Pat to make these
calls from the building s elevator once he had the phone system modified to only allow internal
calls. Mr. Frazier has also been fielding complaints from the accountants about not receiving their
tax schedules in a timely fashion. However, he has failed to confront either of these issues. This
lack of management can be attributed to the following:
1.Mr. Frazier does not respect the type of work done by this department.
2.Mr. Frazier fears confrontation.
Something must be done to allow for better management of the staff.
RECOMMENDED SOLUTIONS
Recommendations to solve the issues in the three areas

Paws With A Cause Essay
It was a typical day for visually impaired Sharon Giovinazzo walking through an airport through the
guidance of her service dog Watson when a small dog charges at them, biting Watson under his chin.
As the president and CEO of World Services for the Blind, a rehabilitation center for blind or
visually impaired people, Giovinazzo travels at least once a week. Watson, a service dogbred and
trained to help a person with disability, guides Giovinazzo around obstacles and prevents her from
getting harmed. His intensive 18 month training allows him to be almost invisible in public spaces
and to perform special skills like guiding Giovinazzo to the nearest ladies room or to an electrical

The goal of this legislation is to maintain the integrity of these very important service animals for
those who truly need them.
Paws With a Cause, an organization which specializes in custom trained service dogs for people
with disabilities, believes that the bill also needs to address the growing concern regarding
emotional service dogs.
Something we would like to see further clarified in the bill is the definition between emotional
support animal and a service dog, Deb Davis, Paws With a Cause community outreach manager,
said. A service animal is a dog [that is] specifically trained to mitigate a person s disability. It s
custom trained specifically for that individual.
Emotional support animals, on the other hand, are untrained animals that provide comfort and
support to people.
There s so much ambiguity and so much confusion, Davis added, Emotional support animals do
not have public access rights under the Americans With Disabilities Act. So while Senate Bill 663
has its strengths and great steps forward, it s not going to superseded the ADA which is already
there.
Jessica Payne has a 4 year old dog emotional support dog named Daisy. She told WebMD that
Daisy started out as a pet, but now comforts the anxiety ridden Payne.
On her first plane flight more than a year ago, Payne was crying

Super Power Should Have More Benefits Of Power
At some point in our lives, we all wished we had super powers. Most of us grew up watching
movies like Superman or The Incredibles, which awakened in us the desire to have their
abilities. I used to imagine how different, easy and awesome my life would be if I were to have
super powers, but I never thought on which one would I prefer if I were told to pick just one. It
is indeed a difficult answer, since there are so many choices of useful and incredible powers; but I
would say that having Superhuman Speed is the most convenient and valuable of them all. Being
super fast has more benefits than any other power because it does not only include super speed but
also timetraveling, eating whatever you like without getting fat, and going anywhere... Show more

If you are super fast, you could be anywhere in a matter of minutes or seconds, without the need of
a car. You could get ready a few minutes you and never be late to school or work. If you wantto go
to a place and you don t have the tickets or permission to enter, you could just run so fast that no
one would notice you and that way you ll get to be there without complications. If you want to
take your date to Italy to eat pizza, you could just run there, eat pizza, and be back the same day.
You could sneak out from your house and go to the party your parents did not allow you to go to,
and they would never know. You would be able to go anywhere, at any time and all the times you
want.
Having super human speed gives you more than just the ability to run fast, but the opportunity to
do many things while you are running. With this super power, life would be much more exciting
and you would have less things to worry about. A great superpower is one that will bring you
happiness, and at the same time will solve your problems or allow you to help others. That is what

Manage Budgets and financial plan
Task 01
Activity A Important Notes:
According to company strategic plans, the company aims to achieve a net profit before tax of
$1,000,000. The chief risks to this goal are: poor sales due to economic downturn increases in
expenses such as wage expenses.
In addition to Australian operations, the company is considering manufacturing overseas to take
advantage of reduced costs. The company is also considering diversifying its product range to
reduce exposure to poor sales of one product.

Both Federalists and Democratic Republicans completely disregarded the idea of a monarchy.

Their variation is actually what set them apart from each other. Democratic Republicans and
Federalists had extremely diverse views on who would select the representatives and the future of
the new government. The people are turbulent and changing; they seldom judge or determine right,
Alexander Hamilton stated in his speech at the Constitutional Convention. To summarize,
Alexander Hamilton was claiming that people are constantly altering their ideas and beliefs. Thus,
relying on a group of mind changers was not going to contribute to a stable government. I am not
among those who fear the people. They, and not the rich, are our dependence for continued
freedom, Thomas Jefferson declared in a letter to Samuel Kercheval. In other words, everyone

fate of our country. Democratic Republicans also feared a powerful government, and didn t want to

The Sensational Murder Of Helen Jewett
In the past few decades, a new stream of research has emerged in American crime and criminality. It
entails the study of sensationalized murder stories. Such an inquiry is critical to understand
Americans past in crime and criminality. Case studies such as the murder of Jewett are riveting thus
creating a nuanced portrait of a historical moment. Such study paints a picture on important changes
in American culture and society over time. With this in mind, the paper details the sensational
murder of Helen Jewett. A cursory glance at the argument shows that Jewett personality and lifestyle
shatters the common ideas particularly in popular minds about prostitutes as pathetic and broken
persons living impoverished lives. However, understanding Jewett murder demand a closer look at
the 1830s and 1840s prostitution.
On a cold night in1836, Jewett was found dead with her corpse roasting on her elegant bed. With
engrossing details, Jewett murder became an example of media sensation with leading newspapers
featuring stories on the murder case with the accused Richard Robinson trial becoming the center
of focus. The intensive coverage of the gruesome crime established the template for crime
reporting, which ideally endure to present day. Certainly, the murder of one prostitute in a
metropolis city like the New York could have easily been, forgotten had it not been for the
sensational reporting. By drawing evidence from a range of renowned scholars, the paper aims to

Mary Shelley s Frankenstein And The Bride Of Frankenstein...
It is amazing how words on a page take a life of their own once they are written. An author s story
can take readers away on a magic carpet ride, to a magical castle that anything can happen in
Britain, even through a wardrobe to a land far away and draft them in the battle of a lifetime. But
what is even more fascinating is that unlike humans, the words on the page never changes. From
this moment to 200 years from now, the words on this page will always be the same, it is only the
reader and the world around them that changes. Take for example Mary Shelley s Frankenstein. In
1818, Shelley had a nightmare that lead her to write her novel as a personification of the Victorian
Culture s fascination of science and death. In 1934, director James Whaleadapted the material into
The Bride of Frankensteinfilm, and was an allegory for pre WWII unity, then in 1997, someone
interpreted the film as a homosexual allegory for the 1990 s. This paper will examine how Mary
Shelley adapted her nightmare into an allegory for her Victorian era audience, how James
Whale used her original text to turn The Bride of Frankenstein into a message of unity for a pre
WWII audience, as well as how Garry Morris uses Whale s film to create a pro same sex marriage
message out of the text in 1997.
Mary Shelley adapted her nightmare of a mad scientist bringing a dead body back to life, into a text
that reflects Victorian Customs is by featuring the importance of education in Victorian society as

Marine Insurance
INTRODUCTION
Insurance is a form of risk management in which the insured transfers the cost of potential loss to
another entity in exchange for monetary compensation known as the premium.
Insurance allows individuals, businesses and other entities to protect themselves against
significant potential losses and financial hardship at a reasonably affordable rate. We say
significant because if the potential loss is small, then it doesn t make sense to pay a premium to
protect against the loss. After all, you would not pay a monthly premium to protect against a Rs.
1000 loss because this would not be considered a financial hardship for most.
In one form or another, we all own insurance. Whether its auto, medical, liability, disability or ...

Insuring anything other than human life is called general insurance. Examples are insuring
property like house and belongings against fire and theft or vehicles against accidental damage or
theft. Injury due to accident or hospitalization for illness and surgery can also be insured. Your
liabilities to others arising out of the law can also be insured and is compulsory in some cases like
motor third party insurance.
General insurance companies have willingly catered to these increasing demands and have offered
a plethora of insurance covers that almost cover anything under the sun.
Any insurance other than Life Insurance falls under the classification of General Insurance. It
comprises of: * Insurance of property against fire, theft, burglary, terrorism, natural disasters etc
* Personal insurance such as Accident Policy, Health Insurance and liability insurance which
covers legal liabilities. * Errors and Omissions Insurance for professionals, credit insurance etc. *
Policy covers such as coverage of machinery against breakdown or loss or damage during the

Introduction
The presence of natural resources in a country is supposed to a positive addition towards realizing
development goals. Both economic and social development is supposed to benefit from
approximated revenues that are to be generated from mining industries. However, the views that
natural resources are a major source of economic and social growth has been scrutinized over the
past decade, with the rising number of countries where resources expectations have not been met
having contributed to these reviews (Collier). These reviews have led to the emergence of two
major views with regards to the relationship that exist between natural resources and general
national development. These views are; the conventional view and the alternative view. The
conventional view holds that there still exist a positive relationship between natural resources and
growth while the alternative view uses the examples of countries where growth has declined or
stalled after discovery of natural resources. The alternative describes what is regarded as the
resources curse (Davis). This discussion paper will discuss the relationship that exists between
natural resources, governance and national growth. In doing this, North Korea will be used a case
study while seeking to identify the resources that are found in the country, their status and the
avenues through which the resource curse can be avoided. The cases on the OT mining in

The Massacre At Nanjing
Historical Idea: The Japanese were particularly brutal because they saw the Chinese as an inferior
race.
A topic of debate in recent history is the reasoning behind the Japanese overly brutal violence
towards the Chinese during the massacre at Nanjing. The prevailing theory is that the Japanese saw
the Chinese as an inferior race, or Chancorro (sub human) thus, killing Chinese held no great
significance. Chinese soldiers were not the only targets for the brutality, innocent Chinese citizens
were treated with the same violence. Chinese men were used for bayonet practice, as well as in
decapitation contests , and an estimated 20,000 80,000 Chinese women were raped. Other examples

The Chimney Sweeper in Innocence vs. The Chimney Sweeper in Experience
In William Blake s Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience, many of the poems correlate in
numerous aspects. For example, The Chimney
Sweeper is a key poem in both collections that portrays the soul of a child with both a naГЇve and

the chimney sweeper itself to convey the similarities and differences of the figure in both poems.

After Tom awakes from this dream, he was happy and warm with the knowledge that with God,
there was no need to fear death.
However, in Songs of Experience, the outlook on life and death is not so joyful. The religious
imagery is not so much as in Songs of
Innocence, possibly because people tend to believe more religiously when innocence dominates
terrible experiences. In the latter poem, however, the little black thing has been clothed in the
clothes of death by his parents forcing him to become a chimney sweeper. His parents have gone
to praise God and his Priest and King, who make up a heaven of our misery and the boy cannot
understand this as he
sings the notes of woe and not happiness. This chimney sweeper does not have the innocence and
hopefulness of the chimney sweeper in Songs of Innocence. This child possesses experience of
hardship and does not hold much faith in God and religion. This version of The Chimney
Sweeper lacks the hopefulness and faith found in the former version although it is the same setting,
factors, and occupation.
William Blake conveys both innocence and experience with the literary technique of light versus
dark imagery. In Songs of Innocence, Blake discusses the issue of soot on several instances. In the
beginning verse, the young chimney sweeper slept in soot, showing the incorruptibility and despair
of the young child. Also, Tom Dacre s

A Book Bum Rush The Page By Teri Ellen Cross
In the world we live in there are multiple definitions of what beauty is. However is it right to
deemed a certain skin color more beautiful than the other? In our history we are taught that being
a white complexion has many advantages, and that being a dark complexion is a shame.
Although that is history, in our world today believe it or not individuals are still subjected to
discrimination because of their skin color. In a book called Bum Rush The Page , a poem called
Complected written by Teri Ellen Cross, the author indicates the clear epidemic problem of racism
and identity that is occurring nationwide today.
The title of the poem Complected gives off a pessimistic tone. The word itself is not a real word, I
believe that the author got this title by piecing the word complexion and complicated together. The
two words completely define the racial discrimination dark complexion individuals encounter. Skin
complexion should not be a complicated matter anymore especially considering our history and all
the terrible acts that s been done. But yet today, our skin color seems to be the only thing that
identifies us, and not what we do or what we have achieved.
The author of the poem writes about two young girls and she is also comparing them as they
stand next to each other side by side. The main focus of the poem is the first girl she starts off
writing about, which is also the one that is not Venus ( line 10). This girl has a dark complexion,

Analysis Of The Movie The Night By F. Scott Fitzgerald...
Dilsey Gibson, a black woman, serves as a mother figure for the children and a caretaker for the
rest of the family. Dilsey feels as though she really is a part of the family. However, Mrs.
Compson and a grown up Jason disagree and feel that she is easily replaceable. It goes against
community and identity in the South to have a black woman step out of place, and Jason feels
that she does step out of place quite often. Dilsey is shown as a stabilizer when she defends Miss
Quentin. Faulkner writes, [Mrs. Compson] come on and lay down now, she said. I find her in ten
minutes. Mrs. Compson shook her off. Find the note, she said. Quentin left a note when he did it
(283). This is showing that Dilsey can figure Mrs. Compson out and wants to protect her. She
believes that Miss Quentin will come back and wants to help spare Mrs. Compson some heartache.
Even though Mrs. Compson treats her poorly, she still looks out for her. I believe that at this time
in the South, black peopleknew white peoplebetter than white people knew black people. White
people could not see past the prejudice. Dilsey also stabilizes the house when she looks after
Miss Quentin. For example, Dilsey says to Jason, Well, you tend to yo business and let her

Americans After Reconstruction
Over 150 years ago, the slaves were proclaimed free by President Lincoln. However many people
even today still consider the african americans under the bindings of slavery and barred from
true freedom. The african american slaves were brought to America while it was still being
colonized to replace the rather expensive indentured servants. They were sold into slavery to
carry out often harsh chores and tasks for their owner. Eventually, a civil war broke out between
the north and south over the south not wanting slavery to be abolished. However, the south lost
and President Lincoln established the Emancipation Proclamation, which completely freed the
slaves. The period following the civil war, known as reconstruction, was a failure due to the fact
that the newly freed slaves still experienced inequality, racism, and exclusion. Even though the
african americans were completely freed from slavery, they still had to face many hardships such
as inequality. An example of this appears in a labor contract from 1886 when it mainly discusses
the chores and tasks of a black man while... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A piece of evidence that displays this issue is from the Louisiana Law of 1865. It states, Every
negro is required to be in the regular service of some white person, or former owner, who shall
be held responsible for the conduct of the said negro. This shows how the african americans
were still considered slavery and barred from any freedom. One other documentation of racism is
a political cartoon from 1868 showing three white men stepping on a black man captioned, This is
a White Man s Government. The cartoon describes how white men felt it was wrong to have free
african americans and that they shouldn t be apart of american culture. This evidence shows how
racism was a still a huge issue that the african americans still had to face even after finding

Black Sacred Cosmos Research Paper
The Black Sacred Cosmos was developed through the conjoining of the African traditional past
with Western Christianity. It explains the influence of the Middle Passage, and the efforts of
enslavers to force assimilation of the Africans to Western religious beliefs and cultural practices.
Traditional African religions encompassed all portions of life; believers found something sacred
in their daily experiences. Modern day black religions encompass life as well, but there are certain
days like Sunday, or Saturday in the Adventist church, where we may dedicate more time to God.
Traditional religions were tied to family lines, from birth to death. The religionthat one s maternal
or paternal family practiced, was passed down from generation to generation; there was no
acceptance of faith like Christianity. There was a strong sense of community, where the gods and
goddesses were responsible for the wellbeing of the Africans, while the Africans as a... Show more

It is believed that during that journey, something was spiritually awoken in those Africans. This
caused them to refine their African religious practices as the reached South Central America, as
well as the Caribbean. This journey also allowed them to become more spiritual in Christianity;
Protestantism in North America and Catholicism in South America, Central America, and the
Caribbean. Once the Africans reached South and Central America, there was greater leniency with
the religions they practiced, due to there being more slaves than enslavers. This allowed them to
choose to practice their own religion or convert to Catholicism. In North America, there were more
enslavers than the enslaved, so African traditional practices were scarce. Until the African were

Americans Gift To My Generation
America s gift to my generation
Freedom is a gift to my generation. Americans have the freedom of speech, voting ,and purchasing.
Freedom is a responsibility Americans have, therefore Americans must work hard for freedom.
Americans have the responsibility of driving safely, getting a job, and serving on a jury. Freedom
is a choice Americans have the choice of who Americans want to be, where Americans want to
work, and how you act.
Freedom is a reward. Everyone here in America had to earn their freedom through years of war and
protesting. Moreover, Americans should know freedom comes at a price/cost. Nonetheless,
Americans should work persistently because Americans have the freedom to get a full time job, if

Essay about Blake Edwards
1. How do any one of the films screened in weeks 6 12 of the course represent and/or foreground
authorship?
Dating back to the 1920 s, the term auteur was debated over, claiming to describe an author of
script and film maker as one and the same versus the view of scripts being appointed from authors
or scriptwriters (1996, p12).

Clouseau continues for the hotel room door yet stumbles over a suitcase. While finally for the

only to be hit by the door from behind.
Audiences are encouraged to adapt completely to this style in order for the comic lines and/or
events to take on a familiar quality of convention rather than becoming abstractions to the field of
movement or speech (Meisel, 1983). *
Edwards genius at creating a logically evolving chaos and building laughter through long
stretches of farcical sostenuto (1981, p.26) is what sets him apart from other directors of the time,
yet is respected as being apart of the few who were to be considered apart of the pantheon of
directors (1973, p50).
The ideology of Hollywood surrounding S.O.B was Blake Edwards intentions to assault the motion
picture industry as thanks for the excessive disputes between studio executives and himself in order
to maintain Hollywood success (1981, p39).
Within the chapter of Authorship, James Naremore notes that authors are written by a series of
historical, social and cultural determinants (1999, p22), which can be said to easily differentiate
films precisely from one another.
We see a paradoxical linkage to some of these determinants in each of Edwards films.
S.O.B and Sunset (1988) both illustrate the malice and treachery

Essay On Chocolate Labour In West Africa
Do you enjoy eating chocolate? Many people around the world love eating chocolate. People in
the United States eat around 120 chocolate bars each year. But would you still enjoy eating that
chocolate bar if you knew that the chocolate that is used to make those delicious bars comes from
the forced labor of young children? Chocolate is made from cacao beans that grow in tropical
places like West Africa. The countries in West Africasupply more than 70 percent of the world s
cocoa. They sell the cocoa they grow and harvest to many of the chocolate companies who make
our chocolate candy bars. In recent years, news reporters, as well as human rights organizations
around the world, have discovered that there is widespread child slaveryfor growing and harvesting
cocoa beans on cocoa farms in West Africa. As chocolate has gotten more popular around the
world, so has the demand for cheap cocoa. Many cocoa farmers earn less than $2 per day. To help
keep the cost of cocoa low, they use children as workers. The children living in West Africa are
very poor. Some of these children go to work on cocoa farms because their desperately poor
families need them to earn money. Other children are taken against their will from small
villages and sold to cocoa farm owners. These children work 80 to 100 hours a week. They are not
paid. They do not go to school. They are often beaten if they try to escape. Most of these children
are between the ages of 11 and 16, but some people have seen

Baseball Is A Fan Of Sports
The Atlanta Braves Not everybody is a fan of sports. Baseball is one of the most popular sports
in America. Baseball is basically two teams of nine players batting against each other to score
the most runs in nine innings. In order to make a run, he must hit the ball and make it to first,
second, third, and back home. In some cases, he will be able to run all three bases and make it to
the home plate, and that is called a home run. A home run can be up to four points, depending on
how many people are out on the bases. A batter is somebody that hits the ball when the pitcher
throws at him. In order for a player to be out, he has to get three strikes. As of right now, there are
thirty major league baseballteams and the Atlanta Braveshave a long, storied history which
involves many of the greatest players and managers in the 20th century and so far the 21st.
Baseball is not just about the players. Its takes the coaches, the managers, and the players
working together to make a great team. One if the greatest managers to ever manage the Atlanta
Braves was Bobby Cox. He managed the Atlanta Braves until he retired. He even led the Atlanta
Braves to a world series championship. Now he is oddly remembered for being the most thrown out
manager of all time. Bobby Cox is the only person among all of the players and managers to be

Similarities And Differences Between The Hunger Games...
Both Suzanne Collins The Hunger Games and Gary Ross movie, The Hunger Games, represent
characters thoughts and feelings through their respective mediums. While the novel is written as a
first person narrative, the story is told with a third person narrator the film, the latter giving insights
to happenings outside the arena due to the ability to switch between internal and external
focalisation (Fisher 28). Characters thoughts are foreshadowed throughout the novel using diction
unlike the film, which portrays differed details from the novel to achieve the same effect (Lothe
86). With a long discourse time in the novel, and the use of tropes and symbols in the film, both
Collins and Ross portray characters inner thoughts (Fisher 30). These examples would give a better
understanding of how the novel and film version of The Hunger Games represent characters
thoughts and feelings such as that of hatred, being hurt, love, and grief.
Written in first person, readers are limited to Katniss view on events in the novel, but shown

Results: This table shows the HR and Times of the subjects during each submaximal test. For the

subjects are females between the ages of 21 23. Some Sub Maximal Test required multiple Heart

Discussion/Conclusion Each one of these tests were submaximal meaning the patient was not to

Artificial Sweeteners Should Be Banned
Artificial sweeteners should be banned because of their harmful effects
Kaleb Kassaye
Nova Southeastern University
[Comp 1050 EV2: Kevin Dvorak] The use of artificial sweeteners in beverages and food has been
on a steady rise since 1969, the year it was authorized in the United States of America. The
popularity of artificial sweeteners has been on a rise because of the benefit that it is a zero calorie
sweetener .Even though artificial sweeteners have some great benefits many scientists believe that
it causes adverse effects such as cancer, weight gain and depression. I strongly believe that
consumers are not aware of the side effects of artificial sweeteners hence the increase in
consumption since 1969.
Through extensive research, scientists have concluded that artificial sweeteners are carcinogenic; a
cancer causing agent. Scientific research has revealed that cyclamate in combination with
saccharin, the two main ingredients in artificial sweeteners, caused bladder cancer in laboratory
rats. Though test where not done on humans scientist believe that the long term effect of using
artificial sweeteners would lead to the same complications in humans. Amino acids are biologically
important organic compounds composed of amine and carboxylic acid functional groups. The human
body needs amino acids to thrive. It is documented that ingestion of high amounts of artificial amino
acids found in artificial sweeteners can have adverse effects on the human body such as cancer.

Confucianists, Daoists, and Legalists faced the central problem of finding new guiding values in
the massive economic, social, and political transitional era. In Eastern Zhou dynasty, a strong central
government proved a failure. The weakness of central authority stimulated the society of free

Martin Luther Motivation
Martin Luther was a German theologian and religious reformer who is credited for sparking the
Protestant Reformation in the 16th century.
Martin Luther was born into a world dominated by the Catholic Church, which held spiritual and
political authority over all the nations of Europe. Martin Luther vowed to become a monk and
devote his life to the Church s promise of salvation [saving a soul from hell]. After Martin Luther
entered the monastery, Luther became doubtful that the Church could offer him salvation. During a
visit to Rome, the center of the Catholic Church, he found corruption and a lack of spirituality.
Luther began to realize that many of the things he believed about the Church were not true. As time
progressed, he encountered more examples of his growing doubts in the Church.
In 1516, Johann Tetzel, a Dominican friar and papal commissioner for indulgences, was sent to
Germany by the Roman Catholic Church to sell indulgences to raise money to rebuild St. Peter
s Basilica in Rome. Indulgences were pieces of paper issued by the Catholic Church that forgave
sins so one s soul could go to heaven instead of hell when they died. Indulgences implied that the
rich could buy their way into heaven while the poor could not if they were unable to pay for
indulgences. Upon hearing the news that Tetzel was preaching that people could be forgiven by
paying for indulgences, Luther was deeply troubled and irritated. In response to the sale of
indulgences, on October 31, 1517,

Native American Traditions And Traditions Of Clothing,...
The Navajos did not make war just to steal and kill; they earned their reputation as warriors
fighting to protect their lands, properties, and families and a just cause it was. The Navajo tribe
is one of the oldest and is the largest tribe in the United States and branches from the Apache
tribe. Their characteristics and traditions of clothing, shelter, and food are still around today.
This tribe is known for their peacefulness and religious beliefs and 0many experts consider their
lifestyle to have been a wealth of culture. They were resilient and seemed to recuperate from the
many hardships they faced, even destitution. Navajo traditions were orally passed on to younger
generations from elders, and even other tribes that the navajos branched from. They formed a
very distinct type of religion known as the Peyote religion. This religion was unconventional
compared to other native american religions. Some of their rituals used in healing members of
the tribe could last for days and even over a week. Every aspect of their life involved some type
of religious ceremony. When it came to planting crops and harvesting they would pray, sing, and
dance to the sun god named Tsohanoai for a bountiful year. Not all followed this religion once
Christianity was shared with them. In more modern times between twenty and fifty percent now
identify themselves as Christians. Another large part of their religion and beliefs are their healing
ceremonies. In 1941 an

Symbolism In Ethan Frome Essays
Symbolism can give additional meaning to a variety of texts. From music to movies to novels,
symbolism creates an even deeper meaning than found in a surface reading. The symbolism found
within Ethan Frome adds to the inherent meaning of the text to give it an even deeper meaning.
Edith Wharton uses the pickle dish, the Oak tree, and the cat as symbols to achieve deeper
meaning. The pickle dish is of great significance in the novel. It is used to represent Zeenas
virginity.
Mattie seamed to know a great deal more about the pickle dish than Ethan did. She had to remind
him quot;It was a wedding present don t you remember? It came all the way from Philadelphia,
from Zeena s aunt that married a minister quot;(70). Ethan never bothered to ... Show more content

The symbolism becomes clear when Zeena explains that the only person to touch it is herself and
only to clean it.
The oak tree is used to symbolize Ethan in the novel. The connection can be seen by comparing
the characteristics of each. The Oak tree is seen by the characters in the novel as a solid,
unchanging, and immovable object. The same can be said about Ethan. He has always has and
probably always will live in Starkfield.
According to the narrator, quot;he was the most striking figure in Starkfield, though he was but
the ruin of a man. It was not so much his great height that marked him, for the natives were
easily singled out by their lank longitude from the stockier foreign breed: it was the careless
powerful look he had, in spite of a lameness checking each step like the jerk of a chain quot;(11).
Although he wasn t dangerous by nature, people still respected and sometimes feared him. He had
a commanding air about him that everyone noticed. The cat is used to be symbolic of Zeena. While
Zeena was away, the cat was constantly underfoot and in the way of Ethan and Mattie.
The cat was trying to get attention by jumping quot; between them into Zeena s empty chair
quot;(68). quot; The cat tried to get attention

Irgages And Disadvantages Of Alternative Dispute Resolution
1)Alternative Dispute resolution or ADR refers to any sort of action that is utilize instead of a court
of action. The following are advantages to alternative dispute resolution.
One of this advantages is that it allows both parties to obtain some sort of gain because in a court
of action only party would be the beneficiary. Another benefit is that the process would not be as
bureaucratic as it would be on court of action where representatives of the company would also
focus on the case and not in the activities of the company. ADR also provides the ability for the
company to not get negative attention as matters can be keep private. Lawyer and administrative
cost would be greatly reduce because not many lawyers would be need it for negotiations.
Furthermore, Alternative Dispute resolution are often use by companies operating in international
markets.
2)Negotiation, refers to the process of having the two sides come to an agreement without the help
of an externality. This could be beneficial to both parties because they can come to an agreement of
their own terms and both side win. Mediation is when a neutral authority brings both sides to the
table to help solve the dispute. Benefits to doing this process, is that the mediator can provide
alternatives to how to solve the dispute, although results are nonbinding. Arbitration is when a third
party decides the outcome of a dispute. For the winning party is an advantage because the decision
in not appealable, it only can be

The Scarlett Letter, And The Crucible
1.Identify (and define) the genre of this novel.
It is leaning more on historical fiction. In historical fiction, writers will incorporate past events or
people into their fictitious stories. Though the characters and the story are fiction, this lifestyle and
rule was far from fiction. It is even believed that even though Hester Prynne was fictitious there was
a similar scandal that Hawthorne was referring to. The life of the Puritans has been a subject of
interest for years, with works of literature such as The Scarlett Letter, and the Crucible that depict
this time period of extreme conservatism and harsh punishment. After further analysis and research
it has come to my attention that the Scarlett Letter is actually categorized as a Gothic Romance
novel. It shouldn t be that difficult to believe since Pearl was the result of passionate love affair. I
think what sets it apart from other romance novel is it isn t like other novels.
2.Provide an author biography (as it pertains to the novel).
Nathaniel Hawthorne was born on July 4, 1804 in Salem, Massachusetts
John Hathorne, was one of the judges who oversaw the Salem witch trials. Having learned about
this, the author probably added the W to his surname in his early twenties in an effort to dissociate
himself from his notorious forebears Hawthorne began The Scarlet Letter in September, 1849, and
finished it, amazingly, in February, 1850. He spent a mp

The Public s Argument Against Nuclear Waste
The necessity for a new type of energy increases with every year. Energy consumption rates are
increasing continuously, and with them, pollution and wastes directly harming the Earth and her
atmosphere. While other energy competitors constantly fell short of impacting fossil fuels enough
to significantly lower their usage rates, nuclear energy can not only compete against the highly
efficient yet harmful fossil fuels but can reign as king as a more efficient and cleaner source of
energy. There are two pivotal arguments against nuclear energy: the public s perception and nuclear
waste. In arguments pertaining to this topic, it is commonly asked as the waste continues to build
up, what can be done with it? However, Bennie Olsen stated, All... Show more content on

Casks are double walled containers, created from high grade steel, which protect the waste and
prevent radioactivity from escaping. These casks can then store the waste for over a century
and can withstand harsh treatment such as surviving over 30 minutes in a fire at 1,470 degrees
Fahrenheit or being struck by a locomotive traveling at 90 miles per hour. In both of these tests,
the casks protected their load and prevented exposure. There have been approximately 24,000
casks used worldwide, and not a single time has a cask failed to contain the nuclear waste within
(Transporting Nuclear Waste, 2018). Unfortunately, the nuclear answer isn t to all forms of
energy. It wouldn t be practical to power cars with nuclear energy, nor would it be efficient to use
nuclear energy in a location dominated by flowing rivers where hydroelectric power would prove
more effective. Additionally, locating a nuclear reactor on a fault line would be an accident waiting
to happen, almost setting up the site to fail. In 2012, when a tsunami struck Japan, the Fukushima
Daiichi nuclear plant lost power and could no longer cool its turbines, which caused a meltdown of
the facility, and the exposure of radiation to the nearby

  • 3. Health Promotion Is A Process Of Empowerment The main purpose of this essay is to provide a critical analysis of....Discussion will centre round the importance of utilising health promotion to reduce health inequalities. Health promotion is a process of empowerment which enables communities and individuals to strengthen control over the determinants of health in order to achieve their fullest potential. (WHO 2008) 1The rationale for health promotion derives from the opportunity to prevent ill health and reduce inequalities through the promotion of health and healthy living. It incorporates a broad range of interventions, measures, approaches and activities to enhance the health of populations, individuals and the communities in which they live. Earle (2007) 2 intimated that anyone concerned with trying to facilitate change or influence and improve health needs to recognise what people mean when they talk about health. He proposes that understanding why people behave in a certain way when it comes to their health and lifestyle choices can ultimately influence the way in which health promotion interventions are coordinated, designed, communicated and implemented by the health professionals as they work towards health improvement. Tones and Green 3(2004) agree that a definition of health can provide a firm premise for practice in promoting health and has implications for theory, practice policy and promotion of public health. The Assessment Of Water Quality And Stream Health Essay cology Lab Four: The Assessment of Water Quality and Stream Health in Local (Lowell MA) Freshwater Systems via the Analysis of Biotic and Abiotic Indicators Abstract: Overall the objective of this lab exercise was to introduce students to watershed ecology and the ecological factors that affect water quality. Students used biotic (macroinvertebrates ) and abiotic indicators to asses the quality of water in a freshwater body. Specifically students collected water chemistry data (hardness, nitrate/phosphate concentrations, dissolved O2 and pH) to asses the quality of water. Additionally macroinvertebrates from the benthic environment of a respective field site were collected, analyzed as well as catalogued. Collectively the results indicated that a greater species diversity was indicative of greater water quality(Lenat). Likewise within a freshwater ecosystems a negative correlation was found to exist between fluctuating abiotic factors, species diversity and water quality. It can be concluded that amongst the three field sites the ranking of water quality from highest to lowest is as follows; Great Brook Farm, Russell Mill pond, Lawrence Street Stream. Introduction: There are two categories for bodies of freshwater, these are lentic and lotic. A lentic body of water in stationary such as a lake or pond and a lotic body of water is flowing such as a river or stream. Clearly, the insubordination and abuse of company resources cannot be allowed to continue. Staff Mismanagement And finally, there is the issue of staff mismanagement. • 15. Mary Shelley s Frankenstein And The Bride Of Frankenstein... It is amazing how words on a page take a life of their own once they are written. An author s story can take readers away on a magic carpet ride, to a magical castle that anything can happen in Britain, even through a wardrobe to a land far away and draft them in the battle of a lifetime. But what is even more fascinating is that unlike humans, the words on the page never changes. From this moment to 200 years from now, the words on this page will always be the same, it is only the reader and the world around them that changes. Take for example Mary Shelley s Frankenstein. In 1818, Shelley had a nightmare that lead her to write her novel as a personification of the Victorian Culture s fascination of science and death. In 1934, director James Whaleadapted the material into The Bride of Frankensteinfilm, and was an allegory for pre WWII unity, then in 1997, someone interpreted the film as a homosexual allegory for the 1990 s. The Presence Of Natural Resources Name Institution Course Unit Lecturer Date Introduction The presence of natural resources in a country is supposed to a positive addition towards realizing development goals. Both economic and social development is supposed to benefit from approximated revenues that are to be generated from mining industries. However, the views that natural resources are a major source of economic and social growth has been scrutinized over the past decade, with the rising number of countries where resources expectations have not been met having contributed to these reviews (Collier). These reviews have led to the emergence of two major views with regards to the relationship that exist between natural resources and general national development. These views are; the conventional view and the alternative view. The conventional view holds that there still exist a positive relationship between natural resources and growth while the alternative view uses the examples of countries where growth has declined or stalled after discovery of natural resources. The alternative describes what is regarded as the resources curse (Davis). This discussion paper will discuss the relationship that exists between natural resources, governance and national growth. However, in Songs of Experience, the outlook on life and death is not so joyful. The religious imagery is not so much as in Songs of Innocence, possibly because people tend to believe more religiously when innocence dominates terrible experiences. In the latter poem, however, the little black thing has been clothed in the clothes of death by his parents forcing him to become a chimney sweeper. His parents have gone to praise God and his Priest and King, who make up a heaven of our misery and the boy cannot understand this as he sings the notes of woe and not happiness. In our history we are taught that being a white complexion has many advantages, and that being a dark complexion is a shame. Although that is history, in our world today believe it or not individuals are still subjected to discrimination because of their skin color. In a book called Bum Rush The Page , a poem called Complected written by Teri Ellen Cross, the author indicates the clear epidemic problem of racism and identity that is occurring nationwide today. The title of the poem Complected gives off a pessimistic tone. The word itself is not a real word, I believe that the author got this title by piecing the word complexion and complicated together. The two words completely define the racial discrimination dark complexion individuals encounter. Skin complexion should not be a complicated matter anymore especially considering our history and all the terrible acts that s been done. But yet today, our skin color seems to be the only thing that identifies us, and not what we do or what we have achieved. The author of the poem writes about two young girls and she is also comparing them as they stand next to each other side by side. The main focus of the poem is the first girl she starts off writing about, which is also the one that is not Venus ( line 10). This girl has a dark complexion, we know this ... • 21. Analysis Of The Movie The Night By F. Scott Fitzgerald... Dilsey Gibson, a black woman, serves as a mother figure for the children and a caretaker for the rest of the family. Dilsey feels as though she really is a part of the family. However, Mrs. Compson and a grown up Jason disagree and feel that she is easily replaceable. It goes against community and identity in the South to have a black woman step out of place, and Jason feels that she does step out of place quite often. Dilsey is shown as a stabilizer when she defends Miss Quentin. Faulkner writes, [Mrs. Compson] come on and lay down now, she said. I find her in ten minutes. Mrs. Compson shook her off. Find the note, she said. Quentin left a note when he did it (283). This is showing that Dilsey can figure Mrs. Compson out and wants to protect her. She believes that Miss Quentin will come back and wants to help spare Mrs. Compson some heartache. Even though Mrs. Compson treats her poorly, she still looks out for her. I believe that at this time in the South, black peopleknew white peoplebetter than white people knew black people. White people could not see past the prejudice. Dilsey also stabilizes the house when she looks after Miss Quentin. For example, Dilsey says to Jason, Well, you tend to yo business and let her lone... • 22. Americans After Reconstruction Over 150 years ago, the slaves were proclaimed free by President Lincoln. However many people even today still consider the african americans under the bindings of slavery and barred from true freedom. The african american slaves were brought to America while it was still being colonized to replace the rather expensive indentured servants. They were sold into slavery to carry out often harsh chores and tasks for their owner. Eventually, a civil war broke out between the north and south over the south not wanting slavery to be abolished. However, the south lost and President Lincoln established the Emancipation Proclamation, which completely freed the slaves. The period following the civil war, known as reconstruction, was a failure due to the fact that the newly freed slaves still experienced inequality, racism, and exclusion. Even though the african americans were completely freed from slavery, they still had to face many hardships such as inequality. An example of this appears in a labor contract from 1886 when it mainly discusses the chores and tasks of a black man while... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One other documentation of racism is a political cartoon from 1868 showing three white men stepping on a black man captioned, This is a White Man s Government. • 23. Black Sacred Cosmos Research Paper The Black Sacred Cosmos was developed through the conjoining of the African traditional past with Western Christianity. It explains the influence of the Middle Passage, and the efforts of enslavers to force assimilation of the Africans to Western religious beliefs and cultural practices. Traditional African religions encompassed all portions of life; believers found something sacred in their daily experiences. Modern day black religions encompass life as well, but there are certain days like Sunday, or Saturday in the Adventist church, where we may dedicate more time to God. Traditional religions were tied to family lines, from birth to death. Once the Africans reached South and Central America, there was greater leniency with the religions they practiced, due to there being more slaves than enslavers. People in the United States eat around 120 chocolate bars each year. But would you still enjoy eating that chocolate bar if you knew that the chocolate that is used to make those delicious bars comes from the forced labor of young children? Chocolate is made from cacao beans that grow in tropical places like West Africa. The countries in West Africasupply more than 70 percent of the world s cocoa. They sell the cocoa they grow and harvest to many of the chocolate companies who make our chocolate candy bars. In recent years, news reporters, as well as human rights organizations around the world, have discovered that there is widespread child slaveryfor growing and harvesting cocoa beans on cocoa farms in West Africa. As chocolate has gotten more popular around the world, so has the demand for cheap cocoa. Many cocoa farmers earn less than $2 per day. To help keep the cost of cocoa low, they use children as workers. The children living in West Africa are very poor. Some of these children go to work on cocoa farms because their desperately poor families need them to earn money. Other children are taken against their will from small villages and sold to cocoa farm owners. These children work 80 to 100 hours a week. They are not paid. They do not go to school. Shi Huang Di frequently collected money from the people and forced a lot of corvee labor to his massive public works projects. On the northern border, Qin was faced with the challenge of barbarians and the government demanded a large number of corvee labors to build the Great Wall to prevent invasions. However, these only proved to be mistakes that the disgruntled people sent the Qin Dynasty to an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Martin Luther Motivation Martin Luther was a German theologian and religious reformer who is credited for sparking the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century. Martin Luther was born into a world dominated by the Catholic Church, which held spiritual and political authority over all the nations of Europe. Martin Luther vowed to become a monk and devote his life to the Church s promise of salvation [saving a soul from hell]. After Martin Luther entered the monastery, Luther became doubtful that the Church could offer him salvation. During a visit to Rome, the center of the Catholic Church, he found corruption and a lack of spirituality. Luther began to realize that many of the things he believed about the Church were not true. As time progressed, he encountered more examples of his growing doubts in the Church. In 1516, Johann Tetzel, a Dominican friar and papal commissioner for indulgences, was sent to Germany by the Roman Catholic Church to sell indulgences to raise money to rebuild St. Peter s Basilica in Rome. Indulgences were pieces of paper issued by the Catholic Church that forgave sins so one s soul could go to heaven instead of hell when they died. Indulgences implied that the rich could buy their way into heaven while the poor could not if they were unable to pay for indulgences. Upon hearing the news that Tetzel was preaching that people could be forgiven by paying for indulgences, Luther was deeply troubled and irritated. In response to the sale of indulgences, on October 31, 1517, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They were resilient and seemed to recuperate from the many hardships they faced, even destitution. Navajo traditions were orally passed on to younger generations from elders, and even other tribes that the navajos branched from. They formed a very distinct type of religion known as the Peyote religion. This religion was unconventional compared to other native american religions. Some of their rituals used in healing members of the tribe could last for days and even over a week. Every aspect of their life involved some type of religious ceremony. When it came to planting crops and harvesting they would pray, sing, and dance to the sun god named Tsohanoai for a bountiful year. Not all followed this religion once Christianity was shared with them. In more modern times between twenty and fifty percent now identify themselves as Christians. The symbolism becomes clear when Zeena explains that the only person to touch it is herself and only to clean it. The oak tree is used to symbolize Ethan in the novel. The connection can be seen by comparing the characteristics of each. The Oak tree is seen by the characters in the novel as a solid, unchanging, and immovable object. The same can be said about Ethan. He has always has and probably always will live in Starkfield. According to the narrator, quot;he was the most striking figure in Starkfield, though he was but the ruin of a man. It was not so much his great height that marked him, for the natives were easily singled out by their lank longitude from the stockier foreign breed: it was the careless powerful look he had, in spite of a lameness checking each step like the jerk of a chain quot;(11). Although he wasn t dangerous by nature, people still respected and sometimes feared him. He had a commanding air about him that everyone noticed. The cat is used to be symbolic of Zeena. • 47. The Scarlett Letter, And The Crucible 1.Identify (and define) the genre of this novel. It is leaning more on historical fiction. In historical fiction, writers will incorporate past events or people into their fictitious stories. Though the characters and the story are fiction, this lifestyle and rule was far from fiction. It is even believed that even though Hester Prynne was fictitious there was a similar scandal that Hawthorne was referring to. The life of the Puritans has been a subject of interest for years, with works of literature such as The Scarlett Letter, and the Crucible that depict this time period of extreme conservatism and harsh punishment. After further analysis and research it has come to my attention that the Scarlett Letter is actually categorized as a Gothic Romance novel. It shouldn t be that difficult to believe since Pearl was the result of passionate love affair. I think what sets it apart from other romance novel is it isn t like other novels. 2.Provide an author biography (as it pertains to the novel). Nathaniel Hawthorne was born on July 4, 1804 in Salem, Massachusetts John Hathorne, was one of the judges who oversaw the Salem witch trials. • 48. The Public s Argument Against Nuclear Waste The necessity for a new type of energy increases with every year. Energy consumption rates are increasing continuously, and with them, pollution and wastes directly harming the Earth and her atmosphere. While other energy competitors constantly fell short of impacting fossil fuels enough to significantly lower their usage rates, nuclear energy can not only compete against the highly efficient yet harmful fossil fuels but can reign as king as a more efficient and cleaner source of energy. There are two pivotal arguments against nuclear energy: the public s perception and nuclear waste. In arguments pertaining to this topic, it is commonly asked as the waste continues to build up, what can be done with it? However, Bennie Olsen stated, All... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Casks are double walled containers, created from high grade steel, which protect the waste and prevent radioactivity from escaping. These casks can then store the waste for over a century and can withstand harsh treatment such as surviving over 30 minutes in a fire at 1,470 degrees Fahrenheit or being struck by a locomotive traveling at 90 miles per hour. In both of these tests, the casks protected their load and prevented exposure. There have been approximately 24,000 casks used worldwide, and not a single time has a cask failed to contain the nuclear waste within (Transporting Nuclear Waste, 2018). Unfortunately, the nuclear answer isn t to all forms of energy. It wouldn t be practical to power cars with nuclear energy, nor would it be efficient to use nuclear energy in a location dominated by flowing rivers where hydroelectric power would prove more effective. Additionally, locating a nuclear reactor on a fault line would be an accident waiting to happen, almost setting up the site to fail. In 2012, when a tsunami struck Japan, the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant lost power and could no longer cool its turbines, which caused a meltdown of the facility, and the exposure of radiation to the nearby ...
