Genetic Testing Doesn T Equal To Animals
An Australian Philosopher; Peter Singer noun says, Humans aren t superior to animals, so it is not ok

of themselves, and conjunction that is not right. First, it is unethical. As Peter Singer says, humans are
not superior to animals, so humans cannot decide their fate. Next, there are many possible alternatives.
Two of them being stem cell and genetic testing models. Lastly, who is to say they are accurate?

Dead Chivalry in the Wife of Bath’s Tale
In the time period between 1066 and 1485, better known as the medieval age, a set of standards and
how people are placed into order of importance in society is known as feudalism. In this caste system
there are four groups; Kings, Barons, Vassals, and Serfs. The main individual of focus comes from the
vassals, better known as the knight. Knights from this time period start out around 7 years old and are
taught a code of chivalry (code of conduct) and the basics of knight hood. The knight in the Wife of
Bath s tale forcibly violates a young madden and punished with execution by decapitation. He is saved
by the queen but is sent on a twelve month and a day quest. The knight in the Wife of Bath s Tale
doesn t display chivalry by his actions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The knight shows his true chivric colors by saying My lady and my love, my dearest wife, I leave the
matter to your wise decision. (406 407) By allowing his wife to chose for him he displays true
chivalry. He is also allowing to choose what she wants for her husband; this is a recall to the answer
she gave him to save his life.
The knight in the Wife of Bath s tale doesn t display chivalry by his actions of violating an innocent
woman and continues to dishonor this code by being deeming and crass to an old woman who helps
save his life yet at the end allows the old woman to make a decision regarding his life. Chivalry is a
code of conduct on how to treat and respect women. Raping a young madden is probably back in the
medieval ages illegal and against the code of chivalry for a knight. Chivalry is also a way of how to
behave, when acting rudely towards the old woman he breaks that code, even if it was not direct to her
face. At the end we see the knight finally display chivalry by allowing the old woman to decide his
fate and because he was chivric he got what he truly

Is There a Significant Difference in Height of Bracken...
Is there a significant difference in height of Bracken (Pteridium aquilinum) from a light area and a
dark area?
Abstract: This investigation was designed to compare the height of Pteridium aquilinum in a light area
and a dark area of Rushy Plains, Epping Forest and to establish if light intensity does have an effect on
the growth of Pteridium aquilinum, commonly known as Bracken. From my research it was clear that
the height of Bracken is affected by abiotic factors, other than light intensity, such as: soil moisture,
soil temperature, air temperature and soil pH so I had to control these factors. I carried out preliminary
experiments to find a suitable site where all these factors where constant. For my actual investigation I

The diagram above shows the two stages of photosynthesis. As you can see, light is a key component
as it start the light dependent reactions which produces ATP and NADPH, which is needed in the light
independent reactions to make glucose. So without light, there is no ATP and NADPH produced and
thus no glucose produced, therefore the food chain cannot be started. Glucose is also needed to make
DNA and hormones for plant growth, it is also require during plant respiration. So it can be
established the light is vital for plant growth and it affects the height of plants indefinitely.
Photoperiodism:
Photoperiodism is the effect of the relative lengths of light and dark periods on plant growth. This
occurs when photoreceptor proteins e.g phytochromes are produced by plants in response to light
intensity or the absence of light. This in effect affects the height of plants. [5]
Phototropism:
Phototropism is the growth of a plant in the direction of its light source. Phototropism occurs due to a
hormone called auxin which is produced at shoot tips. Auxin influences cell division, if there is light
on one side then the dark side will receive more auxin and therefore more cell division will occur on
that side, which will force the plant to bend towards the light therefore affecting the height of the

Descriptive Essay About Disney
Disney
The plane still struck the nerves in my stomach, it felt like 30 knives in my chest and if I made one
slight move, it was going to put a slice in my stomach open. It was the longest plane ride in my life.
When the plane landed, I was mixed with exhaustion, nausea, and excitement. Then all of a sudden I
was walking into this terminal that had trees inside and people were watching you walk out of the gate
way from the airplane. Then we went into this circular object with an LED light and before I knew it, I
was on a train with my family that goes to the bus station. The bus seemed to take forever to board
and leave! People were taking their time to get on a bus that is only 20 minutes away from Disney and
they couldn t just drop the luggage off with the bus driver who take care of it, but no, they have to
help and say Oh please let me do it, many fragile things in here that I don t want to break ! Well this is
a message to the people who do that, if you don t leave your bag with the bus driver to put into the
bottom compartment, they the fragile stuff isn t the only thing that will break in your general area.
It was the fifth time my family went to Disney, we were still amazed that how one place on earth can
make you the happiest person in the world. There was just something in the air that made you feel like
you could do any wrong and that you didn t have to worry about things that are happening in the
world like wars because the only war you would need to worry

pool of incredible NBA talent and we ll get into some deeper pockets, as well. Read below for more
rich NBA bank accounts.
Number Five: Dirk Nowitzki
With $204 million, Dirk is the most well off European player on this list. He is also arguably the
greatest European player of all time. He has the distinction of being the best player on an NBA
championship team, and even if it only happened once, Dirk will retire having pretty much

And he has helped to revolutionize the power forward position even as new power forwards continue
to do so today. The competitive old vet will probably always be around basketball, even though he
could easily retire with his $315 million.
Number Two: Kobe Bryant
The player nicknamed the Black Mamba is one of the most divisive, controversial figures in NBA
history. He was biggest scoring phenomenon for many years, replacing Michael Jordan as the shooting
guard of his generation even though his reputation as a person was as far from Michael as it could get.
He made a lot of friends, maybe more enemies, and $279 million along the way. It s his last year in the
league now, as he s announced his retirement. But he ll be just fine.
Number One: LeBron James
LeBron will go down as one of the best basketball players to have ever lived. Period. Like Kobe,
LeBron has his made his share of haters and doubters. But anyone who thinks he hasn t been the best
player in the game every year he s played at least until very recently is lying to themselves. He s made
$130 playing the game so far, but it looks like he s get more than a few years left in him. Thanks for

Essay On Is College Worth It
Is College Really Worth It? Furthering your education in this world is important. Going to college is
very beneficial to society because it helps the country run smoother. Some reasons people believe
everyone should attend college are that college graduates tend to make more income than a non
college attendee, more companies and businesses require you to have a degree to your name to work
for them, and you are more likely to have a better health care insurance and retirement plan. But
others tend to feel like college is not isn t worth the time of day. Others who believe in not attending
colleges usually have reasons like it takes too long to pay off your student loans and debt, recent
college graduates are underemployed or struggle to find work, and many students who attend colleges
and universities tend to drop out and wastes their own and government money. The individuals who

Child Poverty in New Zealand
Child poverty is a major and complex issue that New Zealand faces today. The degree is far more
severe than the public s perception and it is a problem that we cannot afford to ignore. A combination
of factors contributes to child poverty, from individual causes at the micro level to the macro
collective government involvement. This occurs partly due to social construction and it is potentially
avoidable. The consequences can impact on both individual and to a great extent affect significantly
on the country as a whole. If the issue is not resolved, the inequality will continue, if not worsen and
becomes an ongoing intergeneration cycle. The poor get poorer and poorer , children can easily fall

Socio economic factors are widely acknowledged as important determinants of poverty. If an
individual experiences adverse living conditions in childhood, majority of them will have inadequate
income and result in low socio economic status as adults (Carroll et al, 2011). Children born in poor
households have difficulty in accessing the basic needs (e.g. food, clothing, and good living
environment) and this can affect their learning ability at school, unable to focus. In other words, they
have a higher chance of dropping out of school or lower education attainment, unable to provide
appropriate qualifications when they move onto adulthood, seeking for job opportunities. These
children are finding day to day life tough, they are living in cold, damp houses, do not have warm or
rain proof clothing, their shoes are worn, and many days they go hungry (Children s Commissioner,
2012). Often this has taken place over a long period of time, impacting on their development,
behaviour and physical health furthermore limiting their potential as they grow into adults.
Unemployment or underemployment can cause significant household stressors; parent may feel
incompetent to meet the basic needs for their children, unable to make ends with financial problems.
Consequently, individual seek alcohol and drug as a way to escape their problems. This could lead to
child abuse; children who suffer from this can develop emotional,

Participant Observation Research Paper
Observation paper
The most naturally challenge and quality data collection and exploration method is observation,
Participant observation is in some ways both the most natural and the most challenging of qualitative
data collection methods participant observation is used across the social sciences, as well as in various
forms of commercial, public policy, and nonprofit research.. Such discovery is natural in that all of us
have done this repeatedly throughout our lives, learning what it means to be members of our own
families, our ethnic and national cultures, our work groups, and our personal circles and associations.
The challenge of observation is taking notes, recording voices, sounds, and images; and asking
questions that are designed to uncover the meaning behind the behaviors. Sociologists also conducted
participant observation studies and discussed the use of the technique early on, including Beatrice
Webb (1926) in the 1880s and the Chicago school of urban sociologists in the 1920s (Park, Burgess,
McKenzie, 1925). Observation means being embedded in the action and context of a social setting, we

The Book Of Sand
Finitude is the sole concept which pervades all walks of life; all regions of the world; all aspects of
daily life and human society. It challenges our perceptions and potentially destroys dreams, making
the viable inviable and even some difficulties impossibilities. Yet, are we truly confined to finitude for
an infinitude of time, or is the universe an infinitude in which we, as a species, have yet to achieve our
fullest potential? Jorge Luis Borges, in his short story The Book of Sand , provides not only a set of
answers to these questions, but also compounds it with remarkable perspective and insight into the
nature of infinitude, our understanding of our own limitations, and how we naturally perceive the
foreign concept of infinity as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first paragraph, Borges writes of the universe in a mathematical manner that relates the abstract
generalization of the known to the unknown: The line is made up of an infinite number of points; the
plane of an infinite number of lines; the volume of an infinite number of planes; the hypervolume of
an infinite number of volumes... What we know about time and life, in this context, is continually
growing, unlimited by any external force, such as the starting point of the evolution of human
understanding of the universe. In this case, just as the Book of Sand has neither a starting point nor an
end point, the universe does not have an end point, nor a clearly defined, discernible, universally
agreed upon start point. Infinite dimensions of the universe are infinite dimensions of thought; we can
always expand our horizons, broaden our understanding to any infinite degree. So long as we operate
in a truly infinite plane, our ideas and thoughts are unrestrained and infinite as

The Role Of Hero In Aristotle s Tragic Hero
Hero is a specific character of many literatures. They are imaged as to worship, or character that saves
the universe on the literature. However, some heroes face tragedy by heading to their darkest abyss of
their path. In Aristotle s Tragic hero thesis, the hero gets called from adventure and achieves aids from
supernatural phenomenon. But by hero s own flaws, he/she transforms his/her identity with sinister
ambition to achieve the goal. However, the hero fails his/her goal because during the steps hero takes,
he/she commits evil actions that makes hero fall in challenges and temptations. The most important
cause that fails hero is the flaw of hero in him/her self. The definition of flaw is a feature that mars the
perfection of something; deflect; fault; Hero s tragedy is being caused by hero s antagonists or hero
transforming him/herself malice. In the play Macbeth, both of these ways are related to supernatural
phenomenon affecting tragic hero s journey. The steps of tragic hero are starting from call to the
adventure, supernatural aid, saving, transformation, challenge temptation and facing the abyss at the
end. By hero making a journey of this path, it consequences the great fall of him/her self. The
antagonists are also being an important part of hero failing. They plan conspiracies to make hero fail
in most painful and desperate way. In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, the three witches are

Taoism By Lao Tzu
Anette Dopico
PHI 2010
Professor Jacob
March 18, 2018
Taoism is a philosophy which also means a way of life. Lao Tzu started this, he lived a little before
Confucius, about 600 BC. Tao means the path or way . Lao Tzu worked as a a record keeper. He
believed that happiness was for people to just go with the flow , meaning to let things go about on
their own rather than forcing the situations. According to Confucius, each person should act with
virtue in all social matters; family, community, state, and kingdom, to ensure unity. Lao Tzu thought it
was extremely wrong for people to fight in wars. He was also extremely against a government making
up rules and regulations on how people should do things in their life. Taoism is against anything with
certain regulations, even a food diet.
Lao Tzu thinks people should make their own decisions in situations that they experience in life. To
follow Taoism is to understand who you are yourself and everything else will come naturally. By
doing nothing one could accomplish everything. Don t go against what you have been faced, instead
go through it and learn from it, and never force anything because by doing that, you are not doing
anything good for yourself. Another key point of Tzu s writing is: we need to be in touch with our real
selves. We spend a great deal of time worrying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lao Tzu liked to compare people to certain parts of nature or virtues. There are almost half a billion of
Daoist s in the world. Lao Tzu s philosophy is all about learning how to live with harmony. We have
to make more time for ourselves, we have to worry less about the world and experience the world
more to be able to take it all in. Certain things happen on their own and cannot be forced, like grieving
gaining knowledge, developing relationships. Lao Tzu says we cannot be too preoccupied with
anxiety and worries because we will miss many opportunities and experiences that life has to

Essay On Rural India
Access to Internet is a prerequisite to go digital. But how many indians have the fortune of possessing
it? As per TRAI report, the figure is not more than 28 per cent of the population. Out of 36.74 core
internet subscribers till September, 2016, 24.7 core of the connections are concentrated only in cities.
Urban India is way ahead with 61.9 internet subscriptions per 100 people while rural India is
struggling with 13.7 subscriptions per 100 people. Digital disparity is so high that Delhi alone has 2.2
core internet connections while the entire North East lags behind with just 4.3 lakh connection. Half of
the 3 core connections in Maharashtra are concentrated in Mumbai.

1.7 Awareness
Reaction is impulsive and rigorous in case of a threat. It is mild and lukewarm in case of an
opportunity. Same is the case with going cashless. Cyber security is one of the retarding factor which
can cast doubt in the mind of people, especially in those areas lagging behind in financial literacy. The
mass should be made aware of the benefits of going cashless. At the same time, they should have the
faith that their digital money is safe. India fares quite high in the United Nation s Telecommunication
Union s index of cyber security, placed in the maturing category at 23rd position out of 165 nations.
However, most of the ATMs in India still run on the outdated Windows XP which is vulnerable and
proned to cyber attacks. The case of 3.2 million debits of Yes Bank, Axis Bank, HDFC, SBI, ICICI
compromised last year makes cyber security a challenge that need to be given due importance else
people will not have the confidence to go digital.
1.8 Suggestions
1. Limit in cash withdrawal should be reinstated to restrict uncontrolled flow of cash back into the
system.
2. ATMs should be upgraded regularly to latest version of Windows.
3. Startups in smartphone sector should be encouraged by proving subsidies to local entrepreneur so
that these can be availed at reasonable price in the market which is now being dominated by the
Chinese manufacturers.
4. Projects like Bharatnet should be allocated maximum fund( an

Compare And Contrast Christianity And Islam
There are an estimated two billion people on earth professing to be Christians and follow the teachings
of Jesus and God. An estimated one billion, three hundred million people on earth profess to be
Muslim and follow the teachings of Muhammad and Allah.
(http://www.religionfacts.com/islam/comparison_chartsislam_judaism_christianity.htm) Both are
monotheistic religions, both agree in the existence of prophets, and both religions follow certain
rituals in worshipping their particular God. Christianity and Islam produce the largest number of
devout followers on earth, and when compared are very similar to one another.
Christianity began before Islam in approximately 30 A.D. Christians believe in the existence of one
supreme God, creator of the universe, who remains involved in the events on earth through the actions
of his believers. The Christian theory of creation proposes God created the earth and universe in six
days and rested on the seventh, known as the Sabbath, a day to rest and worship God. Man and
woman were created on the sixth day, named Adam and Eve, and placed in a paradise like location on
earth known as the Garden of Eden. God specifically prohibited them from eating the fruit of a
particular tree from the garden, referred to as the tree of knowledge. Tempted by a serpent, they both
ate the fruit and immediately became aware of human conditions, such as being naked. When God
discovered what they had done he banished them from the garden, leaving the couple to

State vs Constitutional Decisions
Individual rights are a very crucial part of our United States constitution, because whether these rights
are being provided towards a criminal defendant or a victim the goal of our national government is to
provide the same level of rights adequately to all its citizens. From the time in which the new judicial
federalism began up until now, these rights have been more and more in debate case after case both in
federal and state courts. A good example to this fact is a comparison between 3 different cases that
pertain to decisions from both state and federal court, these cases are Maryland v Craig, Pennsylvania
v Ludwig, and Ohio v Self. These cases deal with the defendant s right to confront witnesses when the
witness is a child who is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Craig then objected to the motion basing it on the confrontation clause but then the trial court rejected
her, in which then the trial court allowed children to testify under statute, then Craig was convicted of
all counts. Maryland court of last resort reversed and remanded for a new trial by rejecting Craig s
contention, but concluding that the 6th amendment s confrontation clause guarantees face to face
confrontation. For the statute to be invoked in the first place the defendant must have had a face to
face with it s accusers, and also that the state s showing of expert testimony was insufficient in order
to comply with regulations required in Coy v Iowa (1988), which was a similar case to this one but the
main difference was that there was a curtain to conceal the child victim instead of a one way closed
circuit camera, therefore the defendant s constitutional rights were violated by not being provided that
right. The case was then taken by Craig to the U.S. Supreme court. The constitutional question the
U.S. Supreme court is addressing was whether the one way closed circuit testimony of a child witness
who is alleged to be a victim of child abuse violates the confrontation clause of the sixth amendment.
Since the court determined that closed circuit questioning met the fundamental purposes of the clause,
(which in general are the right to personally examine the witness

Introducing America s New Family
Introducing America s New Family: The Bundy s American television today has drastically changed
from the first appearance of the television in the 1920s. Currently, television is nothing but sitcoms
poking jokes at the disabled, the LGBT community adapting to the American family standard, and
even late night television poking fun at our 2016 Presidential candidates.1950s television depicted
America s heterosexual, patriarchal society in which an ideal and acceptable family consisted of a
generous working class father, an accommodating and good natured mother, and a few respectful
children. Whereas 1950s American television required the audience to accept television families
without question, American networks today understand that times are changing and just like mass
communication, adapting to the millennial generation of technology is a must for television families to
appeal to the growing masses. But when did television families first start to step away from the
cultural ideals of its time? From the 1920s through the 1960s television upheld the Father Knows Best
standard of television with shows such as Father Knows Best and I Love Lucy. Well, fast forward 30
years, and in came the Bundy s. The Bundy s were television s first dysfunctional, on screen family to
undermine the idea that an ideal family must function perfectly all the time. Married with Children

How Is Roman Civilization Successful
Roman Civilization The Roman civilization was a successful and powerful civilization that began
around 753 BC. Rome was equipped with a mighty army, strong leaders, and Roman organization.
(Aaron.J.Elcock 2011) Although problems did come, Rome was able to bend and transform to fit the
ever changing world. These are some of the factors that led the Roman civilization to be one of the
most successful places in history. The Roman s way of living contributed heavily to the Western world
in political, social, and cultural matters. Rome began as a small Italian city state ruled by a monarchy.
(Grant 1976) Over the years the city expanded from Italy to Carthage. Next, the Romans took over the
Western Mediterranean and the Eastern Mediterranean as well, becoming a civilization and eventually
an empire. Then there was a transformation in Rome. An emergence of Christianity, a division of the
empire, and the Barbarians were threatening Rome. There was also chaos in the empire because of
financial troubles and natural disasters. Some thought their problems were caused by the god s anger
because of Christianity in the city. After being weakened by attacks from multiple barbarians, the

Examples Of Outsiders In The Outsiders
What does it take to not be an outsider and to fit in with everybody else? Ponyboy Curtis in S.E.
Hinton s The Outsiders tries to explain that he and his friends, the Greasers, are more than just thugs.
They have low external expectations which also leads to low internal expectations. His friends have
all grown up in poor conditions. His best friend, Johnny, is constantly beat at home and is only himself
when he is with the gang. The Greasers are rivals with the Socs, a rich gang made of rich kids.
Ponyboy thought that the Socs had it made, but after he meets Cherry he finds out that they also have
external and internal expectations that make their lives not so made. Ponyboy and Cherry are outsiders
because they see the world differently than the groups that they are in and have a window to escape
stereotype threat and into society where they will be known as an individual, while Dally and Bob
have decided that they are what their group is and they won t have that window.
Ponyboy Curtis faces stereotype threat because of the actions of the group that he is in. They ll know

stereotype threat because people are scared just at the sight of Johnny and Ponyboy. Stereotype threat

Texas Government Vs Federal Government Essay
National and State governments are organized in similar ways. Both have powers derived from the
people, three branches of government, checks and balances on political power, individual rights, and
federalism. They may have many similarities, but they also have many differences which sets them
apart from each other. The Texas Constitution was written to limit the expansion of governmental
authority, while the U.S. Constitution was written to act effectively in the public welfare. Over the
years, the National government has indeed expanded. Federalism is power divided by a constitution
between a central and regional government. The U.S. Constitution gave Congress many enumerated

The judicial system in the U.S. government allows for only a Supreme Court, and they can create any
lower necessary courts. The Texas government has a Supreme Court to hear civil cases and one court
for criminal appeals to hear criminal cases, along with courts of appeal, district courts, commissioner s
court, and justice of the peace courts. For the U.S. judicial branch, the president appoints the judges
with approval by the Senate, while in the Texas judicial branch the judges are elected by the voters.
All of the state judges are bound by the U.S. Constitution, which makes the Texas Constitution weaker
than the U.S. Constitution. The U.S. Constitution includes the supremacy clause, which states that it is
the law of the land. It says that if for some reason there is a conflict between the two constitutions, the
U.S. Constitution will overrule Texas . The most recent ruling on same sex marriage revealed this
power. Some states had laws preventing same sex marriage, but once the Supreme Court ruled it
constitutional, the laws were no longer valid and they must recognize same sex

Alpha Synuclein Protein
Degenerative diseases are due to aggregation of proteins within specific neurons. These proteins are
overproduced as a result of an overactive gene. This process interferes with normal cellular function
leading to multiple degenerative diseases and is a field that requires researchers to find treatments.
The alpha synuclein protein is abundant in the brain and can be found also in other parts of the body.
In the brain, it is mainly found at the tips of neurons called the presynaptic terminals. Presynaptic
terminals release neurotransmitters which talk to neurons to perform normal brain function. Though
the function isn t clearly understood, it has been found to interact with dopamine neurotransmitter (1)

When this gene is expressed, Tau protein is able to stabilize microtubules via two ways: isoforms and
phosphorylation. Isoforms are defined as having different variations of the same protein and can be
involved in alerting domains by deletion or creating shorter loops. In the brain, there are six isoforms
of tau protein that exist. They differ in either three or four binding domains in the c terminal (carboxyl
terminal) which helps to make microtubules stable. (3) These binding regions have also been found to
have a role in development and regulate function of microtubules in axon. Phosphorylation is the
addition of a phosphoryl compound which can turn protein enzymes on and off which can change
functions of cellular activity. Different processes can cause Tau phosphorylation which results in
activity of specific kinases and phosphatases towards serine and threonine sites (3). This activity will
influence how microtubules are assembled. With differences in age, we will see different activation
and deactivation of different tau proteins on microtubules

The Politics behind Dante’s Inferno
The Divine Comedy is much more than an epic poem depicting a man s interpretation of Heaven,
Hell, and Purgatory. Written by Italian poet, Dante Alighieri, the Divine Comedy frequently alludes to
the political turmoil that was prevalent throughout 14th century Italy, specifically, the city of Florence.
During this period of Italian history, there was a lack of a stable government and a power struggle
between the Papacy and the Holy Roman Emperor. This paper will analyze the political aspects within

spending money. Their punishment is to eternally run away from dogs who try to maul

While it s not viewed as a hard drug it still has side effects that people can either view as fun or

What Role Does Super Huge Mustard Play In American Culture
People are constantly looking for something better in order to feel as if they have the best they can get.
Such people can be categorized as Costco shoppers, which often are the people who want to save
money by buying items of extravagant sizes for less, in result thinking they are doing something
beneficial. The prevalence of these super sized items glaringly reflects the American culture, as well
as the American Dream, and how it plays a role in the lives of many American citizens.
Mustard, more specifically super huge mustard is simply mustard that is put into large packaging.
Largely apparent at stores such as Costco, which is mostly known for selling items in bulk and excess.
There is something about super huge mustard that makes the average shopper at Costco s eyes widen
with amazement at such the grandeur that mustard could have. Why opt for less when you can have
more for close to the same price? is the point of view of many Costco shoppers. This saving of money
by buying more for less portrays in a larger sense America as a whole. As a small child walking
through Costco, I always stared in awe at the warehouse esque shelving and bulk packaging that was
apparent in this unending store. I would always wander through the aisles grabbing the many items I
wanted and vehemently tried to convince my parents to buy it as they proceeded to place it back on
the shelf. The American Dream. A dream that many people try to achieve, including myself, so that
life will seemingly be better. The need to achieve more is the constant drive of many Americans. In a
way, Costco represents this American Dream, because by buying these largely sized items we are
trying to have more, thus having a sense of extravagance. Extravagance, a way for Americans to
surpass everybody else by having more than others. By buying items in excess from places such as
Costco, Americans end up having more than they need. It is through having this surplus of items that
Americans may be able to portray success. Since by having the ability to buy this large amount of
items, Americans are showing how they are better than somebody who may have a lesser amount than
them. Such extravagance as a result of shopping at Costco has been

The Chemistry Of Natural Waters Lab
In the Chemistry of Natural Waters Lab we were to collect a sample of water, ranging from a fountain,
stream, bottle, or tap water. After we collected the samples we all did many tests to see what the
hardness was for each one. Water hardness is determined by the amount of Calcium and Magnesium
in the water.(2) Water that has more Calcium or Magnesium is considered to be harder than water with
less of those two elements. When you use soap and detergent, this is where you see water hardness
coming into play in everyday life when you are washing things. During the experiment we found out
whether the samples had solutes in them by evaporating them and seeing what type of residue is left
behind. These materials that are left behind are called TDS (Total Dissolved Solids.) EDTA was one of
the tests that we used to test the hardness of the water. C10H16N2O8 is EDTA which stands for
ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid and this would be the chelating agent in the complexation tritation.
EDTA provided us with a number for the residue remaining. Another indicator for water hardness is
EBT (Erichrome Black T.) Then next way that we determined the hardness of water was through
Atomic Absorption spectrophotometry (AA). The way that this hardness is determined

Refer to the paradox between the pleasure domes likeness...
Refer to the paradox between the pleasure domes likeness to Eden, and the sin of pleasure. Is Kubla
Khan challenging God by recreating heaven, or is this simply to highlight the God like qualities of
Kubla Khan?
The first stanza sets the tone, theme and location of the poem. Most of this is achieved in the first five
lines. The rhyme pattern makes the first five lines almost independent of the rest of the stanza and the
indentation of the fifth line marks the change in pace that can be seen between the two halves of the
first stanza. Inn the second half of this stanza, the rhyme scheme is changed and this has a noticeable
effect on the stanza as a whole. It creates a definition between the broad description of Xanadu in the

The second half of this stanza describes the pleasure dome. The poet continues his use of strange,
mystical language, as he refers to the gardens and the blossoming, incense bearing trees. Soft
consonants reflect the subject matter, such as sinuous rills and sunny spots of greenery . There is
repetition of the e sound, which places emphasis on the last word. Specifically, on the first syllable of
the last word, green . This is to leave the reader with the desired impression of the pleasure dome. It s
a natural place, similar to the popular notion of Eden.
The second verse immediately contrasts the first using harsh words like chasm and savage . There is a
very strong distinction between the beautiful landscape described in the first stanza, and the wild,
destructive atmosphere of the second. The reference to the deep chasm arouses connotations of hell,
and this is reinforced as ideas of enchantment several lines later. By explicitly referring to
enchantment, instead of hinting at it, as was done in the first verse,
Coleridge would have created a clear message that this place was evil, compared to the beauty of the
pleasure dome. A modern audience may not see this explicit reference to enchantment as an indication
of evil, but in the 1700 s ideas of mysticism and witchcraft had far more importance. The idea that the

St. Augustine Of Hippo Research Paper
Saint Augustine of Hippo is not only a rhetorician, but played an instrumental role in the Christian
faith. Next to St. Paul, St. Augustine is seen as one of the most significant Christian thinkers in all of
history. St. Augustine s creation of a theological system created a lasting influence in society today
and his writings still play a major role in the modern practice of Christianity, specifically in Roman
Catholicism. Throughout his 75 years on earth St. Augustine played influential roles in Christianity
and his roles as a rhetorician. His contributions to this field helped shape society not only during the
middle ages, but also in present day. All of these contributions have shaped the field of

Throughout the remainder of his life, Augustine had built a reputation for himself as a writer in Africa
and beyond. He had become known in countries such as: Gaul, Italy, Spain, the Middle East, etc. His
writing circulated throughout these areas. Even to his competitors Augustine s writing was respected
due to the power and effectiveness. Despite all this fame he reached in the later years of his life, he
died a failure. St. Augustine and the rest of the city of Hippo were prisoners to an army of invaders.
This group of invaders were called the vandals and were made up of a group of barbarians and
adventurers in search of a home. After St. Augustine passed away the cities of Hippo and Carthage
fell. Christian practices in Northern Africa died away when St. Augustine passed and only made a
short revival in the 6th century. However more Christian influence colonized in North Africa in the
19th century. Although St. Augustine s practices died off when he did his legacy remains in his several
books. In all of St. Augustine s famous writings he managed to establish several theories and made
significant contributions to the field of

First English Parliament During The Industrial Revolution
7) Parliament comes into being (Jan. 20, 1265) After his victory at the Battle of Lewes over Henry III,
De Montfort seized power in England. Even though he was in control, De Montfort s grip on the
country was threatened. He summoned the barons and the county knights, along with burgesses from
major towns to join him January 20th in an attempt to gain more support. This was called De Montfort
s Parliament. They discussed reforms and were able to temporarily stabilize de Montfort s political
state. Unfortunately, later that year he was killed at the Battle of Evesham, but his idea of parliament
did not die out. Under reign of Edward I, the idea of inviting both knights and the burgesses to
parliament become more popular. By the 14th century, this became normal and it became known as
the House of Commons. This parliament sometimes in referred to as the First English parliament, and
de Montfort is most often deemed the founder of the commons. 8) Industrial Revolution (1760 1850)

East Bakersfield Personal Expectations
I once read, to change the system, you have to be the system unknown. Determination will take me
where I need to go in order to create an impact on the life of others, even if it is only one life I am
affecting. For many years I was determined to experience college somewhere outside of Bakersfield
however, about halfway through my junior year I realized I could help the people in the city I am
from. Opportunities will get me to where I am going and Bakersfield will remain my background. East
Bakersfield High School and its staff play a huge role in all that I wish to become as a person and in
my career. I come from a family of four, and as the baby of the family one may say the pressure to
succeed is intense within myself. My father did not graduate from high school, although he has been

them reach their own goals and help them discover all that they can be in life.. A lot of how I think and
my ambition comes from living in Bakersfield, because it is not always well spoken of by others. The
city I live in constantly reminds me that anything is possible no matter where you come from. All it
takes to achieve your goals is motivation and determination to finish what you have started. My family

There is some evidence that family members of workers exposed to asbestos heavily face an increased
risk for developing mesothelioma. Believed this danger as a result of exposure to asbestos fibers

exposure to these workplace practices, reducing the possibility of asbestos going back that way. May
require some employees shower and change their clothing before leaving work, store street clothes in

Currently a chest x ray is the most common tool used to detect asbestos related diseases. However, it
is important to note that chest x ray cannot detect asbestos fibers in the lungs, but it can help to
identify any early signs of lung disease caused by exposure to asbestos.
Studies have shown that computed tomography (CT) (a series of detailed pictures of areas inside the
body from different angles; the pictures are created by a computer linked to a x) may be more
effective than traditional chest x rays to detect asbestos related lung abnormalities in individuals who
have been exposed to asbestos.
Lung biopsy, which reveals the microscopic asbestos fibers in pieces of lung tissue removed by
surgery, is the most reliable test to confirm the existence of asbestos related abnormality. Less invasive
test than biopsy Bronchoscopy reveals asbestos fibers in materials that are rinsed out of the lungs. It is
important to note that these tests cannot determine how much asbestos individual were or whether to
develop the disease. It can also detect asbestos fibers in the urethra or mucus or feces, but these tests
cannot be relied upon to determine how much asbestos may be in the

Practical And Experiential Knowledge
A major criteria that separates practical knowledge from that of theoretical, is the former s vast use in
the everyday walks of life. Practical knowledge also ensures an accurate application of the learned
skills and techniques unlike that in theoretical knowledge. As Rohtas Goel, CMD, Omaxe Ltd.
explains, Both practical and theoretical experiences go hand in hand and each has their own
significance. At every level, in an organisation, where theoretical experience helps the individual to
comprehend the basic notions, practical knowledge enables them to execute plans and strategies in the
most effective manner . For example, well established firms today are eyeing and admitting
professionals who possess not essentially the scholarly theories ... Show more content on

Last year I travelled abroad for the first time all by myself. Until then it was on the of my family that I
travelled from place to place and I was totally dependent on them. But this time being all alone, I
naturally was self conscious, more aware and more receptive to the world which sparked off lots of
learning and street smartness in me. I faced so many situations where I learned decision making skills
and felt more responsible because I was all alone and sub consciously knew that my safety was my
concern. I think the amount of learning, exposure and understanding you gain on such occasions are in
no comparison to theoretical knowledge. This kind of learning like travelling opens up our horizons
and perspectives, we achieve whole education rather than one sided knowledge obtained from
textbooks and also helps me remember these things for a longer time since I have experienced it.
Hence with the help of this example I come under the conclusion that practical knowledge is better
than theoretical knowledge in terms of gaining a deeper understanding to things in the

could go anywhere. Literacy is one of the most important things that a child could ever learn. In order
to succeed in society today, one must be able to read, write, speak and even listen. There has been
great debate over the different approaches when it comes to teaching children how to read. This essay
will go more in depth on both approaches, how the writer learned how to read, how the writer will
teach their students how to read. The first approach that we are going to talk about are going to talk

Nocturnal Sleep
In this article, the researchers attempted to discover that learning a new word requires an incubation
period for the word to be processed and remembered, and this period is commonly connected to sleep
(Dumay Gaskell, 2007, p. 35). The authors hypothesized that nocturnal sleep (along with its
physiological and neural correlates) enables listeners to lexicalize spoken words, and the researched
assumed that sleep allows this information to be stored into long term memory (Dumay Gaskell, 2007,
p. 36). Furthermore, they assumed that an increase in lexical activity induced by exposure to a novel
competitor (e.g., cathedruke ) would produce longer PD latencies to a neighboring existing word (e.g.,
cathedr_al ) (Dumay Gaskell, 2007, p. 35). In the following experiment, the independent variable was
whether the participants slept or were awake during the a.m. hours, and the dependent variable was the

To listen to these words, participants wore a pair of headphones and listened to each of the 24 novel
words a total of 36 times in the exposure phase (Dumay Gaskell, 2007, p. 37). Then, in the
lexicalization test, the participants took a forced choice test and were instructed to push one of the two
buttons in order to determine if there had been a pause in a spoken stimulus (Dumay Gaskell, 2007, p.
37). Then, participants were instructed to give a free recall period to state as many of the new words as
possible (Dumay Gaskell, 2007). Then in the 2 AFC recognition test, participants heard the new word
along with its foil and were given a forced choice test and were instructed to push a button when one
of the words sounded familiar. In addition to the initial test, The subsequent retests (12 and 24hr) used
the same test battery but involved no exposure phase (Dumay Gaskell, 2007, p.

Two Organelles Research Paper
The largest organelle, the nucleus is a membrane bound organelle that contains the vast majority of the
cell s DNA. The nucleus is considered the defining feature of a eukaryotic cell because its presence
separates eukaryotes from the more ancient prokaryotic cell. The nucleus is often referred to as the
control center of the cell because the DNA that it contains directs all aspects of cellular function (18).
While most cells only have one nucleus, some cells (red blood cells) lack a nucleus and are therefore
unable to divide and produce daughter cells. In humans, some types of skeletal muscle cells have
multiple nuclei during their development; however multinucleated cells can also be associated with
inflammation (19) and tumor development (20).
The nucleus is bound by the nuclear envelope, a two membrane structure that forms an impermeable
barrier around the DNA and other nuclear components, separating them from the cytoplasm. The inner
nuclear membrane faces the chromosomes and is a phospholipid bilayer that contains many different
proteins. The outer membrane, also a phospholipid bilayer, faces the cytoplasm and in many cells it is
continuous with the rough ER (21). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each pore complex is composed of approximately 1000 proteins called nucleoporins (18). Each pore
is large enough to allow passage of ribosomal subunits, large protein RNA complexes, and other
materials that are necessary for gene expression and chromosomal maintenance. Larger molecules
must be actively transported through the pore while small molecules and ions move freely between the
nucleus and the cytosol. Therefore in addition to providing a protected compartment for the DNA, the
nuclear envelope also regulates gene expression by controlling the movement of proteins, RNA and
other regulatory molecules into or out of the nucleus

Dead Chivalry in the Wife of Bath’s Tale In the time period between 1066 and 1485, better known as the medieval age, a set of standards and how people are placed into order of importance in society is known as feudalism. In this caste system there are four groups; Kings, Barons, Vassals, and Serfs. The main individual of focus comes from the vassals, better known as the knight. Knights from this time period start out around 7 years old and are taught a code of chivalry (code of conduct) and the basics of knight hood. Chivalry is a code of conduct on how to treat and respect women. Raping a young madden is probably back in the medieval ages illegal and against the code of chivalry for a knight. Chivalry is also a way of how to behave, when acting rudely towards the old woman he breaks that code, even if it was not direct to her face. Abstract: This investigation was designed to compare the height of Pteridium aquilinum in a light area and a dark area of Rushy Plains, Epping Forest and to establish if light intensity does have an effect on the growth of Pteridium aquilinum, commonly known as Bracken. From my research it was clear that the height of Bracken is affected by abiotic factors, other than light intensity, such as: soil moisture, soil temperature, air temperature and soil pH so I had to control these factors. Lao Tzu started this, he lived a little before Confucius, about 600 BC. Tao means the path or way . Lao Tzu worked as a a record keeper. He believed that happiness was for people to just go with the flow , meaning to let things go about on their own rather than forcing the situations. According to Confucius, each person should act with virtue in all social matters; family, community, state, and kingdom, to ensure unity. Lao Tzu thought it was extremely wrong for people to fight in wars. He was also extremely against a government making up rules and regulations on how people should do things in their life. Taoism is against anything with certain regulations, even a food diet. Lao Tzu thinks people should make their own decisions in situations that they experience in life. To follow Taoism is to understand who you are yourself and everything else will come naturally. By doing nothing one could accomplish everything. The Christian theory of creation proposes God created the earth and universe in six days and rested on the seventh, known as the Sabbath, a day to rest and worship God. Man and woman were created on the sixth day, named Adam and Eve, and placed in a paradise like location on earth known as the Garden of Eden. State vs Constitutional Decisions Individual rights are a very crucial part of our United States constitution, because whether these rights are being provided towards a criminal defendant or a victim the goal of our national government is to provide the same level of rights adequately to all its citizens. From the time in which the new judicial federalism began up until now, these rights have been more and more in debate case after case both in federal and state courts. A good example to this fact is a comparison between 3 different cases that pertain to decisions from both state and federal court, these cases are Maryland v Craig, Pennsylvania v Ludwig, and Ohio v Self. Craig then objected to the motion basing it on the confrontation clause but then the trial court rejected her, in which then the trial court allowed children to testify under statute, then Craig was convicted of all counts. Maryland court of last resort reversed and remanded for a new trial by rejecting Craig s contention, but concluding that the 6th amendment s confrontation clause guarantees face to face confrontation. For the statute to be invoked in the first place the defendant must have had a face to face with it s accusers, and also that the state s showing of expert testimony was insufficient in order to comply with regulations required in Coy v Iowa (1988), which was a similar case to this one but the main difference was that there was a curtain to conceal the child victim instead of a one way closed circuit camera, therefore the defendant s constitutional rights were violated by not being provided that right. The case was then taken by Craig to the U.S. Supreme court. The constitutional question the U.S. Supreme court is addressing was whether the one way closed circuit testimony of a child witness who is alleged to be a victim of child abuse violates the confrontation clause of the sixth amendment. Since the court determined that closed circuit questioning met the fundamental purposes of the clause, (which in general are the right to personally examine the witness ... Currently, television is nothing but sitcoms poking jokes at the disabled, the LGBT community adapting to the American family standard, and even late night television poking fun at our 2016 Presidential candidates.1950s television depicted America s heterosexual, patriarchal society in which an ideal and acceptable family consisted of a generous working class father, an accommodating and good natured mother, and a few respectful children. Whereas 1950s American television required the audience to accept television families without question, American networks today understand that times are changing and just like mass communication, adapting to the millennial generation of technology is a must for television families to appeal to the growing masses. But when did television families first start to step away from the cultural ideals of its time? From the 1920s through the 1960s television upheld the Father Knows Best standard of television with shows such as Father Knows Best and I Love Lucy. Well, fast forward 30 years, and in came the Bundy s. Such people can be categorized as Costco shoppers, which often are the people who want to save money by buying items of extravagant sizes for less, in result thinking they are doing something beneficial. The prevalence of these super sized items glaringly reflects the American culture, as well as the American Dream, and how it plays a role in the lives of many American citizens. Mustard, more specifically super huge mustard is simply mustard that is put into large packaging. Largely apparent at stores such as Costco, which is mostly known for selling items in bulk and excess. There is something about super huge mustard that makes the average shopper at Costco s eyes widen with amazement at such the grandeur that mustard could have. Why opt for less when you can have more for close to the same price? is the point of view of many Costco shoppers. This saving of money by buying more for less portrays in a larger sense America as a whole. As a small child walking through Costco, I always stared in awe at the warehouse esque shelving and bulk packaging that was apparent in this unending store. When you use soap and detergent, this is where you see water hardness coming into play in everyday life when you are washing things. During the experiment we found out whether the samples had solutes in them by evaporating them and seeing what type of residue is left behind. These materials that are left behind are called TDS (Total Dissolved Solids.) EDTA was one of the tests that we used to test the hardness of the water. C10H16N2O8 is EDTA which stands for ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid and this would be the chelating agent in the complexation tritation. EDTA provided us with a number for the residue remaining. Another indicator for water hardness is EBT (Erichrome Black T.) Then next way that we determined the hardness of water was through Atomic Absorption spectrophotometry (AA). The way that this hardness is determined ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Refer to the paradox between the pleasure domes likeness... Refer to the paradox between the pleasure domes likeness to Eden, and the sin of pleasure. Is Kubla Khan challenging God by recreating heaven, or is this simply to highlight the God like qualities of Kubla Khan? The first stanza sets the tone, theme and location of the poem. Most of this is achieved in the first five lines. The rhyme pattern makes the first five lines almost independent of the rest of the stanza and the indentation of the fifth line marks the change in pace that can be seen between the two halves of the first stanza. Inn the second half of this stanza, the rhyme scheme is changed and this has a noticeable effect on the stanza as a whole. It creates a definition between the broad description of Xanadu in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second half of this stanza describes the pleasure dome. The poet continues his use of strange, mystical language, as he refers to the gardens and the blossoming, incense bearing trees. Soft consonants reflect the subject matter, such as sinuous rills and sunny spots of greenery . There is repetition of the e sound, which places emphasis on the last word. Specifically, on the first syllable of the last word, green . This is to leave the reader with the desired impression of the pleasure dome. It s a natural place, similar to the popular notion of Eden. The second verse immediately contrasts the first using harsh words like chasm and savage . There is a very strong distinction between the beautiful landscape described in the first stanza, and the wild, destructive atmosphere of the second. The reference to the deep chasm arouses connotations of hell, and this is reinforced as ideas of enchantment several lines later. By explicitly referring to enchantment, instead of hinting at it, as was done in the first verse, Coleridge would have created a clear message that this place was evil, compared to the beauty of the pleasure dome. A modern audience may not see this explicit reference to enchantment as an indication of evil, but in the 1700 s ideas of mysticism and witchcraft had far more importance. The idea that the ... • 43. First English Parliament During The Industrial Revolution 7) Parliament comes into being (Jan. 20, 1265) After his victory at the Battle of Lewes over Henry III, De Montfort seized power in England. Even though he was in control, De Montfort s grip on the country was threatened. He summoned the barons and the county knights, along with burgesses from major towns to join him January 20th in an attempt to gain more support. This was called De Montfort s Parliament. They discussed reforms and were able to temporarily stabilize de Montfort s political state. Unfortunately, later that year he was killed at the Battle of Evesham, but his idea of parliament did not die out. Under reign of Edward I, the idea of inviting both knights and the burgesses to parliament become more popular. By the 14th century, this became normal and it became known as the House of Commons. This parliament sometimes in referred to as the First English parliament, and de Montfort is most often deemed the founder of the commons. 8) Industrial Revolution (1760 1850) ... Currently a chest x ray is the most common tool used to detect asbestos related diseases. However, it is important to note that chest x ray cannot detect asbestos fibers in the lungs, but it can help to identify any early signs of lung disease caused by exposure to asbestos. Studies have shown that computed tomography (CT) (a series of detailed pictures of areas inside the body from different angles; the pictures are created by a computer linked to a x) may be more effective than traditional chest x rays to detect asbestos related lung abnormalities in individuals who have been exposed to asbestos. Lung biopsy, which reveals the microscopic asbestos fibers in pieces of lung tissue removed by surgery, is the most reliable test to confirm the existence of asbestos related abnormality. Less invasive test than biopsy Bronchoscopy reveals asbestos fibers in materials that are rinsed out of the lungs. It is important to note that these tests cannot determine how much asbestos individual were or whether to develop the disease. Practical knowledge also ensures an accurate application of the learned skills and techniques unlike that in theoretical knowledge. As Rohtas Goel, CMD, Omaxe Ltd. explains, Both practical and theoretical experiences go hand in hand and each has their own significance. At every level, in an organisation, where theoretical experience helps the individual to comprehend the basic notions, practical knowledge enables them to execute plans and strategies in the most effective manner . For example, well established firms today are eyeing and admitting professionals who possess not essentially the scholarly theories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I faced so many situations where I learned decision making skills and felt more responsible because I was all alone and sub consciously knew that my safety was my concern. I think the amount of learning, exposure and understanding you gain on such occasions are in no comparison to theoretical knowledge. This kind of learning like travelling opens up our horizons and perspectives, we achieve whole education rather than one sided knowledge obtained from textbooks and also helps me remember these things for a longer time since I have experienced it. • 48. Nocturnal Sleep In this article, the researchers attempted to discover that learning a new word requires an incubation period for the word to be processed and remembered, and this period is commonly connected to sleep (Dumay Gaskell, 2007, p. 35). The authors hypothesized that nocturnal sleep (along with its physiological and neural correlates) enables listeners to lexicalize spoken words, and the researched assumed that sleep allows this information to be stored into long term memory (Dumay Gaskell, 2007, p. 36). Furthermore, they assumed that an increase in lexical activity induced by exposure to a novel competitor (e.g., cathedruke ) would produce longer PD latencies to a neighboring existing word (e.g., cathedr_al ) (Dumay Gaskell, 2007, p. 35). In the following experiment, the independent variable was whether the participants slept or were awake during the a.m. hours, and the dependent variable was the change in lexical ... • 49. Two Organelles Research Paper The largest organelle, the nucleus is a membrane bound organelle that contains the vast majority of the cell s DNA. The nucleus is considered the defining feature of a eukaryotic cell because its presence separates eukaryotes from the more ancient prokaryotic cell. The nucleus is often referred to as the control center of the cell because the DNA that it contains directs all aspects of cellular function (18). While most cells only have one nucleus, some cells (red blood cells) lack a nucleus and are therefore unable to divide and produce daughter cells. In humans, some types of skeletal muscle cells have multiple nuclei during their development; however multinucleated cells can also be associated with inflammation (19) and tumor development (20). The nucleus is bound by the nuclear envelope, a two membrane structure that forms an impermeable barrier around the DNA and other nuclear components, separating them from the cytoplasm. The inner nuclear membrane faces the chromosomes and is a phospholipid bilayer that contains many different proteins. The outer membrane, also a phospholipid bilayer, faces the cytoplasm and in many cells it is continuous with the rough ER (21). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each pore complex is composed of approximately 1000 proteins called nucleoporins (18). Each pore is large enough to allow passage of ribosomal subunits, large protein RNA complexes, and other materials that are necessary for gene expression and chromosomal maintenance. Larger molecules must be actively transported through the pore while small molecules and ions move freely between the nucleus and the cytosol. Therefore in addition to providing a protected compartment for the DNA, the nuclear envelope also regulates gene expression by controlling the movement of proteins, RNA and other regulatory molecules into or out of the nucleus ...
