allows for a nonstandard means of leadership opportunities and unequal qualification

Critically discuss the uses and limitations of the CAPM
Introduction
Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) was developed in 1964 based on Modern
Portfolio Theory. CAMP widely used in investment decisions and financial areas of
the company. The main research of CAMP are the relationship between expected
rate of return and risk assets in the stock market, as well as how the equilibrium price
formation. In terms of the valuation of assets, CAPM primarily used to determine
whether the securities market be mispricing. Capital Asset Pricing Model measure
risk by non diversified variance, it linked risk and expected return, any non
diversified risk assets can be described by the value of ОІ, then calculate the expected
rate of return. Rate of return required by investors is equals to the discount rate. The
limitation of CAPM are: CAPM assumptions inconsistent with the actual; CAPM
Should apply only to capital assets, human assets may not be traded; Estimated ОІ
coefficient represents the past of variation, but investors are concerned about the
security volatility of future price; In the actual situation, the risk free asset and the
market portfolio may not exist.
Main Body
The advantage of CAPM is that it provide a clear and intuitively explicit forecast in
regard to how to measure risk and the connection between risk and expected

4. Essay On Foreign Law
Foreign Law
Canada s Legal System is based on the English and French systems, they base this
system on common law and civil law, also called Bijuralism. Common law is law
that evolved from precedent but is not written as legislation. Civil law is rules to
be a general guidance to problems that arise, courts do look at precedent, but they
first look at the rules. Canada is a federation, which means it has a federal
parliament that makes laws for all of Canada, and a legislature in each provinces and
territories to make laws for their areas.
With laws comes law reform, some laws may not cover specific situations, or
become obsolete all together. With law reform Canada can sometimes change the
system of law and even justice itself. Everyone ... Show more content on

Civil law is usually between people or people and the government, they usually
deal with things like contracts, property, and personal injuries (also known as
torts). Public law can be relevant in both criminal cases and civil cases, when a
case show that the powers of the government or rights of the citizens under the
constitution or a federal law is involved in the case. An example of a public law case
would be a person accusing someone of revoking a constitutional right.
Disputes can sometimes be taken to court, although a large percentage is settled
outside of the courtroom. When taking a case to court there are two kinds, trial
courts, and appeals courts. Trial courts are where evidence is presented, witnesses
are questioned, and the case is put before a judge or a judge and jury. If one of the
parties is unhappy with the outcome they could appeal the case sending it to appeals
court. In appeals court the appellant submits its case to a panel of judges to review
the previous court s decision to either change the previous decision or continue with
the decision of the previous court. Legislation is only the beginning to the law, the
judicial system is what makes the law a reality and that is the court system.
Law effects the people even if the crime is never committed by that person, although
laws help to prevent crime, the laws help lead to resolutions after a crime has been
committed. The
5. How To Reduce Textbook Prices Benefit College Students
Textbook prices have reached outrageously high numbers! Today there are many
college students who are struggling in making a decision between paying for their
rent, or paying for their college textbooks. This has also limited students abilities to
attend classes which require expensive textbooks. However, there are multiple ways
to help make college textbooks more affordable for all students. Some examples
include using open online resources, and textbooks made by colleges and
universities, or even a combination of the two. Tennessee can be a leader in making
education affordable while also making a great investment in students who are the
future of the United States and the world. All of which, can be done by helping to
reduce the high costs... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tennessee has already passed laws to make professors aware of textbook prices
(Friedl 1). However, with forced new editions of textbooks, the prices are renewed,
and used books are unavailable. Education is a great investment because it
generally helps people to earn higher income which in return, will allow people to
pay higher amounts of money in taxes. A great way the state of Tennessee can help
reduce costs of textbooks is by removing sales tax on textbooks. Sure, 9.25% is not
a very high percentage. However, 9.25% of $900 is roughly eighty four dollars.
Eighty four dollars is enough to buy an additional textbook that could be used for
another class. Regulations should be set in place to encourage companies to charge
less for textbooks, and to slow down the high rate of textbook price inflation.
Examples of regulations to be considered include the following: a required
percentage of content changes and/or updates in new textbook editions, and taxing
textbook publishers based on profit margins of textbooks. While the second
regulation may seem extreme, with it, textbook publishers will be encouraged to
keep profits low to avoid paying higher tax

prepared for our deliverables with high quality. I also actively looked for and
suggested solutions to problems. Even when I was busy, I would make sure to
deliver what I promised to the team on time. For every project, I am the person who
did the most research. However, in the presentation, my voice was usually considered
to be too soft, which may not have an optimal demonstration on our findings.

The external speakers background varies. They work in companies such as the public
accounting companies, the corporate and the consulting firms. However, they all
hold a position in accounting and use accounting systems every single day. Thus, I
could learn the practical experience in different environment, which complemented
my academic experience.
This class is very different from the traditional lecture classes. The professor did not
teach the concept and cases from the textbook. Instead, students needed to study on
their own and took quizzes to test their understandings. This saved time and left more
time to discuss in class. Usually, students would bring up new topics and knowledge
accordingly, which motivated us to learn more and deeper.
The topics regarding accounting systems include:
Integrated enterprise systems and cloud computing
Accounting and business intelligence
Accounting and sustainability intelligence
XBRL: intelligent business reporting
Fraud and internal control
Cybersecurity
The risk intelligent enterprise: enterprise risk management
Business reporting, visual analytics, and business performance management
Data mining

First of all, the Coelho emphasized on the importance of dreams and striving for
attaining our personal legends; as the main purpose around Santiago s actions was
chasing his dream. Moreover, the most important message in the novel was to follow

stressed on the fact that everything is determined; as the motto of the crystal

Water resource is the most important part of our life. Almost everything cannot
leave with water. From food to production, demand for water is growing. Water in
different states constantly moves and nourish all. Thus, recognizing the water
cycle is vital and necessary for development and Environmental Protection.
Introduction Water cycle is also known as hydrological cycle . It describes the
continuous movement of water on, above, and below the surface of the Earth.
Water is always changing states between liquid, vapor, and ice. Water cycle has
been going on for billions of years and all life on Earth is dependent on the water
cycle. If there is no water cycle, the Earth would be a lifeless place. There is no
clear starting point of water cycle, but the ocean can be counted as the beginning of
it. The sun drives the entire water cycle. Water changes into water vapor due to the
rice of ocean temperature and then evaporates into the air. Freshwater lakes and
rivers have similar evaporated phenomenon. On land, water of transpiration from the
plant and land also change into steam and evaporate into the air. A small amount of
water in the air from the sublime, which is the direct evaporation of ice and snow
and it is completely omitted from the melting process. Updrafts carry water vapor
into the atmosphere and water vapor condenses into a cloud due to the low
temperature of atmosphere. Airflow driven cloud to move around the Earth Cloud

Abstract (Summary)
The concept of integrated marketing communication (IMC) has received considerable
coverage in the literature, but even its most ardent supporters have noted problems in
translating the concept into reality. Reports on an extensive two phase study of the
New Zealand advertising and marketing industry, undertaken as part of an
international series of studies of IMC implementation and usage, which was
conducted over the 1997 1998 period. The findings of the first phase, conducted in

The first part of this paper represents a phase of a longitudinal multinational
investigation (i.e. Schultz and Kitchen, 1997; Kitchen and Schultz, 1998) of the
emergent concept and field of Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC). Both
parts of this study and paper were conducted with the full support of the two major
industry organizations; the Association of New Zealand Advertisers (ANZA)
representing major marketing organizations, and the Association of Advertising
Agencies (3As). Advertising agencies were selected as they are the dominant
marketing communication supplier in New Zealand. Public relations, direct
marketing and sales promotion organizations, while important providers of marketing
communications, take a subservient role to advertising agencies in strategy
development and many of these organizations are either owned by, or combine in
strategic alliances with, advertising agencies.
Literature review
There is no doubt that the marcom industry (in all of its multifaceted formats) is
transitioning through a period of marked, sometimes turbulent, change, forcing a
reexamination of roles and responsibilities of both marketers and of marketing
communications (marcoms) suppliers. Most marketing texts (i.e. Boyd et al., 1998)
stress variations of the conventional received wisdom that planning and co ordination
of all company activity be centered around the primary goal of satisfying customer
needs. This is perceived to be the most effective

Human activities generate many different forms of pollution that are harmful to our
environment, for example; water pollution. Pollutants change the pH balance of the
water sources they infest, which in large cases is dangerous to the plants and animals
that both live in that water source and rely on it for survival. Industrial activities such
as mining and manufacturing produce waste that make the pH balance of water
acidic, while in suburban areas the waste produced and the activities that affect the
water sources generally make the water more alkaline.
This investigation will determine whether a river running through the local suburban
area is being polluted by the community, its occupants, and their regular lifestyles or
not.
Hypothesis: The water in the river running through a suburban area is more polluted
with alkaline substances than acidic substances.
Aim: to investigate whether the water in the river running through a suburban area is
more polluted with alkaline substances than acidic substances.

11. Value Of Life Ethos
Inquiry The unit Value of Life explores the core ideas of emotions, morals and
perceptions surrounding the definition of life. These complicated notions are what
present this inquiry. The concept of different perceptions of the value of life is
what motivated the researcher to look further into the unit. This led to the
researcher to analyze the short film Zero . Zero directed by Christopher Kezelos
published in 2010 argues the topic of societal values and the effects of self worth vs
society s worth. Kezelos supports his claim through conveying pathos by showing the
morals, emotions and perceptions of animated string dolls. Kezelos point of direction
with this short film shines a light on society s views. Kezelos pathos driven film
motivated the researcher to take technological view of how films can convey
emotion. This connected with the Ted Talk, The magic ingredient that brings pixar

From the late 1800s to current time movies, tv shows and films have always been

are more captured by the idea to binge watch Netflix then grab a book to read. The
constant trailers, magazines covers, reviews, and personal experiences from
movies, tv shows, and documentaries have brought new perspectives and influences
to our society. It is safe to say that exposure to films from a young age and on have
an effect on people/society. This elongated exposure raises the question, how do film
industries define society? To understanding the long, not just personal, but societal
effects it is necessary to conduct a research on the history of film, and the individual
effects of the exposure of it from any

She would get her fruits and vegetables from the local farmers market in Luling.
Mrs. Jenkins remembers canning figs and peaches with her mother. When Mrs.
Jenkins moved to Houma, her mother would go to Dugas, the local market place,
located on Division Street, to purchase her fresh fruits and vegetables. Mama
would make a rustic vegetable soup with her fresh cabbage, shallots, corn, parsley,
and snap beans; adding a little tomato sauce for color and some noodles for extra
starch, Mama s soup was the ultimate get well dish. Aunt Ducky made homemade
pies: apple, lemon, and sweet potato; her pies made for the best of desserts. These
days many fruits and vegetables are shipped internationally to our supermarkets,
where we can find frozen pies and canned goods including fruits, vegetables, and even
readymade soup. Though commercialization has helped save time, the quality has
diminished and the title is still held in the traditional preparations. It is as if you can

About the Author
Jane Austen was born on December 16, 1775 at Steventon, England. She was the
seventh child of the rector of the parish at Steventon, and lived with her family until
they moved to Bath when her father retired in 1801.
Her father, Reverend George Austen, was from Kent and attended the Tunbridge
School before studying at Oxford and receiving a living as a rector at Steventon. Her
mother, Cassandra Leigh Austen, was the daughter of a patrician family. Among her
siblings she had but one sister, Cassandra, with whom she kept in close contact her
entire life. Her brothers entered a variety of professions: several joined the clergy,
one was a banker, while several more spent time in the military. Although her family

Emma advises the innocent Harriet in virtually all things, including the people with
whom she should interact. She suggests that Harriet not spend time with the
Martins, a local family of farmers whose son, Robert, is interested in Harriet.
Instead, Emma plans to play matchmaker for Harriet and Mr. Elton, the vicar of the
church in Highbury. Emma seems to have some success in her attempts to bring
together Harriet Smith and Mr. Elton. The three spend a good deal of leisure time
together and he seems receptive to all of Emma s suggestions.
The friendship between Emma and Harriet does little good for either of them,
however. Harriet indulges Emma s worst qualities, giving her opportunity to meddle
and serving only to flatter her. Emma in turn fills Harriet Smith with grand
pretensions that do not suit her low situation in society. When Robert Martin
proposes to Harriet, she rejects him based on Emma s advice, thinking that he is too
common. Mr. Knightley criticizes Emma s matchmaking, since he thinks that the
dependable Robert Martin is Harriet s superior, for while he is respectable, she is
from uncertain origins.
Emma s sister, Isabella, and her husband, Mr. John Knightley, visit Highbury, and
Emma uses their visit as an opportunity to reconcile with Mr. Knightley after their
argument over Harriet.

14. What Was The Purpose Of The Monster Study In The 1930 s
PSYCHOLOGY ETHICS KEYNOTE
The Monster Study
1939
What is the Monster Study?
The Monster Study was a psychological experiment conducted in 1939 by Wendell
Johnson and one of his graduate students, Mary Tudor at the University of Iowa. She
was apart of the Stuttering Research Program and conducted her study at one of the
Iowa Orphanages in Davenport. They wanted to investigate 22 normal, fluent
speaking orphan children to see if the use of negative comments made towards their
speech would cause and/or worsen stuttering.
What was the purpose of this study?
In the 1930 s it was believed that stuttering only occurred in people because of their
genetics. Dr. Wendell Johnsonwanted to show that this wasn t the case. He thought
that it may also be because of the labelling of children as stutterers that caused their
stuttering to worsen. He also thought that the so called normal children may also ...

They cannot be paid or bribed in anyway. It is entirely up to the willingness of the
person. In this experiment the orphans did not volunteer themselves as they didn t

fully comprehend and understand anyway. The teachers and others care givers at the
orphanage agreed to participate but they were also not given the purpose of the
study and had hardly no idea of what was going on.

It is important that prior to giving consent, all participants must have all information,
(apart from the main aim and nature of the research) about the research and what is
required of them. They must also give their informed consent to be able to
participate. The children never gave their informed consent to participate in this
research, nor were they told that they were even participating in an experiment until
it was revealed by a newspaper 60 years later.

proteins which prevent the binding called tropomyosin (form a filament which semi

Euthyphro, Socrates wanted to learn the nature of piety in order to tell the court his
action of corrupting the young with impiety was wrong and had come to a
realization. With Socrates many lines of questioning for Euthyphro, one specific
question lead to the creation of Euthyphro s argument, known as Euthyphro s
dilemma, an argument that refuses the Divine Command Theory. To better understand
Euthyphro s argument, I will present the similarity between Euthyphro s Dilemma
and the Divine Command Theory, along with the two types of DCT and lastly,
explain the version I believe is the most plausible.
Socrates former question to Euthyphro in what is known as E. Dilemma is, Do the
gods love what s holy because it is holy, or is it holy simply because the gods love it?
Euthyphro s response to this was, the gods love what is holy because it is holy,
Euthyphro s explanation for this was like a cycle:
It is holy because gods love it.

Moreover, the second part of the argument asserts that morality is not objective if
Gods decisions are arbitrary. It affirms that anything can be either good or bad, for
example, one should not steal comes from one of Gods own commandments.
However, how God feels about this certain action can change, by making stealing a
morally right action. Furthermore, if God commands someone to steal, then it will
be a justifiable action. If Gods choices are said to be arbitrary, then it would make
them irrational, creating no reason to obey God, besides the fact that with obedience
may bring a greater reward and disobedience
20. My Introduction to the Legal Process Class Essay
On Tuesday the 28th of February our Introduction to the Legal Process class went to
the Maine Legislature and had the chance to meet some Representatives and Senators
that we had contacted previously. We had studied lobbying and how to effectively
lobby a bill beforehand, and met with the officials we had contacted individually.
This is some information that could help you lobby a bill in the Maine legislature. I
was assigned four representatives and one senator to contact beforehand, and it is
essential to do this early. With the massive amount of emails and calls an official
gets in a day, it is easy to get lost in the crowd. Many legislators will not contact you
back due to their busy schedule. I only received responses from two of the... Show

That means you need to research on the bill you are presenting, and why this bill was
created. You should also know the legislator you are lobbyingto. One of my
representatives, Gay Grant, was a co sponsor on the Ocean Acidification I was
presenting so she was more familiar with the bill than my other representative. The
other, Kim Monaghan Derrig, was on the Workforce and Job committee so I had
to tailor how I lobbied the bill to talk about how it would affect jobs in Maine.
Doing research on the person you are lobbying to can make your case stronger by
making it personal. It is also good to memorize the face of the official you are
meeting so you can find them in a crowd. I had studied the faces of my
representatives before meeting them, but I still didn t recognize Rep. Derrig until
she came up to me and asked if she knew where she could find Tyler amongst our
group of students. Being prepared also means bringing the right materials. Wearing
formal clothing is usually required for entering political buildings, and it also sets
the tone for how serious you are about the time this person is setting aside for you
and the bill you are trying to present. In the Maine Legislature it is a little more lax,
but you should still dress respectfully when lobbying. Beyond clothes, bringing hard
copies of the bill and an informational page on the bill you are lobbying that gives
the key points of
21. Violence Is Immoral And Wrong
Society has been subjected to many violent acts over the course of its history.
Although violence is immoral and wrong, somehow people everyday condone and
commit violence for countless reasons. Many Hollywood films glorify mindless
violence to their advantage and captivate audiences through its entertaining shock
value and rake large box office profits. Car chases, crashes and glorified gladiator
sword fights are all familiar scenes in which violenceis portrayed in an unrealistic
glamorised manner.
Alternatively, many directors aim to portray violence in a far more realistic way as it
aims not to condone it. Instead, they seek to show the true repercussions of violent
acts among society. Hany Abu Assad(Paradise Now) and Tony Kaye (American
History X) intend to challenge and create an alternative view to violence through the
way they portray it. They all demonstrate the vicious and futile cycle of violence and
how it is a useless notion that only sparks more terror and misery. Further, they seek
to show an understanding to the audiences of just why people succumb to such
violent acts, opening a window into the world of the perpetrators and how they
perceive violence as an answer to their struggles. Both films deal with different issues
of violence, however, fundamentally sustain the same profoundness. They all seek to
teach peace through violence in the way they depict violent acts and hateful
behaviour as senseless and wrong, aiming for the moral message to transcend

In the beginning of The Plague, Father Paneloux emotes the essence of the knight
of faith. The knight of faith is rooted in the world. He is never stuck questioning

bad times in life. The knight of faith stand firm in his beliefs. But to be able to fall
down in such a way that the same second looks as if one were standing and walking

Father Paneloux believes the plague is a punishment from God. Through Father
Paneloux first sermon, there is a sense of him being the knight of faith. The first
time this scourge appears in history, it was wielded to strike down the enemies of
God. Pharaoh set himself up against the divine will, and the plague beat him to his
knees. Thus from dawn of recorded history the scourge of God has humble the
proud heart....Ponder This well, my friends and fall to your knees. Father
Paneloux believes strongly in his faith that the plague is there to teach the people a
lesson, either you repent for sins or suffer from the plague. If today the plague is in
your midst that is because the hour has struck for taking thought. The just man need
have no fear, but the evildoer has good cause to tremble. For plague is the flail of
God and the world His threshing floor, and implacably He will thresh out His harvest
until the wheat is separated from the chaff? Father Paneloux is not sitting around
pondering the reasons of the plague; he believe that God is punishing those who have
sinned. At this point in The Plague, Father Paneloux is a knight of

During the summer of 2014 I was given a summer reading assignment. That
reading assignment was to read to books called The Life of Pi and How to read
Literature like a Professor . The story that best describes the letters that we are

there is survival, friendship, and boat sailing. To begin with The life of Piis a story on
how a boy survived a sunken ship which was caused by a massive storm. After the
storm he is placed on a raft with 4 different animals that includes zebra, tiger,
orangutan, and hyena. In order to survive he would fish for his food something the
Native Americans would do. The Native Americans would let their prisoner John

The labour market is defined as the place where employment and employee
interaction take place, otherwise known as Job Sector . In the labour market,
employers and companies whether big or small always compete to hire the best
skilled, highly motivated and hard working of individuals to compete for the best
job available. (Economic, 2015). A labour market in complex terms is defined as an
economic function which supplies different level of demand and supply of labour
(Webster, 2015). E.g. labour demand is essentially the firm s demand for labour
whether high or low depending on certain factors influencing the demand whereas
supply is often explained via the individual employee s supply of labour via how
much input and output they apply to the job.
My chosen field of work is going to be in the business marketing sector such as
Commercial Marketing and will be analysing the labour market within marketing and
distinguish what the influences change in the labour market concerning marketing.
Location of the job would preferably in the London districts mostly central London.
Current labour market trends have to be thoroughly and constantly analysed to get a
perspective on how they affect the labour supply and demand on certain areas such as
marketing and other business sectors yearly as market trends are constantly
fluctuating. Recent future graduate statistics for the previous years have given us a
clear window of the up rise and downfall of the market trends as comparison

Bird Imagery in Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
The works of twentieth century Irish writer James Joyce resound vividly with a
unique humanity and genius. His novel, A Portrait of the
Artist as a Young Man, published in 1916, is a convincing journey through the inner
mind and spirit of Stephen Dedalus. Portrayed with incredible fluency and realism,
imagery guides the reader through the swift current of growth tangible in the
juvenile hero. Above all heavy imagery in the novel is the recurring bird motif.
Joyce uses birds to ultimately relate Stephen to the Daedelus myth of the hawklike
man; however, these images also exemplify Stephen s daily experiences, and longing
for true freedom

Byron s poetry, Joyce s bird imagery bears in this scene a restraint of Stephen s
uniqueness by threatening his self expression.
As Stephen mentally develops in the progression of the novel, he begins his search
for the freedom and power of his soul, as the great artificer whose name he bore

maturity as he grows near to the wild heart of life . Walking down a rocky slope, he
takes notice to a girl alone and still, gazing out to sea . Stephen watches her, and
awed by her likeness of a strange and beautiful sea bird, he realizes she is the epitome
of all that is the wonder of mortal beauty . Painted by
Joyce s radiant imagery of the darkplumaged dove he sees before him, this

Othello as a Black Man in a White Society
Shakespeare s play,Othello, explores themes of love and passion, otherness ,
jealousy, revenge and order vs. Chaos, which all revolve mainly around the
protagonist, Othello. Surrounded by Venetians within a white society, Othello begins
to realise his otherness thus his insecurities as an outside and a Moor increase. The
deceptive Iago uses these dangerous blemishes in Othello s personality to manipulate

What he meant by this is that Othello is a foreigner to all, because of his blackness
he can never fit in. However, this is ironic as the people of Venice accepted Othello
as a righteous and valiant general in the army, due to his brave act of protecting the
Venetians from the evil grasp of the Turkish people.
Interestingly enough, these Venetians don t compare Othello to the supposedly
iniquitous Turks because he had defeated them, so they placed him higher up in
the hierarchy of racial and social class. Iago expresses his own opinion that Othello
is an erring barbarian which is very ironic as Othello has the status of a shielding
warrior, a generous being that is a strong part of the army. Roderigo calls him the
lascivious Moor and tends to see Othello s black colour as a sign of dirtiness and
obscenity. The characters in Othello may possible have felt that Othello was a threat
due to his otherness in his appearance, such as his thick lips .
Othello s character is overtly and crudely sexualised, which is also a disadvantage to
Othello as other characters begin to believe that he is aggressive and sadistic. Black
people, during the time of Shakespeare, were mysterious to the white society.
Venetians were not used to seeing and living with people of other races and feared
them because they were not familiar with

The poem, We Real Cool, by Gwendolyn Brooks speaks through the voice of a
young clique who believes it is real cool. Using slang and simple language to depict
the teenage voice in first person, Brooks s narrators explain that they left school to
stay out together late at night, hanging around pool halls, drinking, causing trouble,
and meeting girls. Their lifestyle, though, will ultimately lead them to die at a young
age. But, despite an early death, the narrator expresses that they are real cool
because of this risky routine. Through her poem, Brooks s shows the ironic
consequence of acting cool : it leads to death.

We die soon. The reader envisions these teenagers having fun going out late, singing,
drinking, dancing and then, without any transition, Brooks s throws her message in
the reader s face: they will die. There is no gradual release of this idea throughout
the poem. Brooks s intends for the reader to be surprised and a bit shaken. She wants
her young audience to think of themselves doing all of the things her narrators are
doing and then, without warning, force them to envision themselves dying as a
result. Her intention is push young people to think about their own lifestyle and
question whether it s cool to die young for fun.
Gwendolyn Brooks s We Real Cool aims to reach a young audience of readers who
can relate to her narrators, a group of teens in a cool clique. Through a strong first
person voice with a care free yet arrogant tone, she is able to express her theme:
living a free and rebellious lifestyle can lead to an early death. Many young people
who live in the way she describes are not aware that the cool life is most likely a
short one. Brooks uses few words to express her theme, but each word is chosen
wisely to create a rhythmic poem that attracts her target audience. Through a strong
shift at the end, Brooks is able to shock her readers with an ironic message that leaves
them thinking about the poem long after they have put it down. Her intention is that

The shortcoming is forcing Microsoft management to plan for a way to make up for
the loss in profit (Schenker, 2007, p.1). Electronic business is an external trend that
has developed rapidly changing the way in which businesses market their products.
These changes have influenced Microsoft s management to make plans to pursue the
advanced abilities the Internet has created. Microsoft s current goal is to achieve
acknowledgement in the business arena of advertisement via the online market.
Microsoft (MSFT) aims to stitch together its software, ad serving, and media

Innovation continues to affect different planning functions of Microsoft. Innovation
is defined as the introduction of new things or methods (Dictionary, 2008). Therefore,
planning must be calculated in a strategic, tactical and operational manner in order to
be effective. With strategic planning, Microsoft must think of long term goals and

The Impact of Surging Oil Prices on the U.S Economy
Although the lingering effects of the Great Recession of 2007 2009 continue to
dissipate and economic growth resumes, volatile global oil prices remain a source of
concern for economists and consumers alike. While the experts debate the precise
date at which peak oil will be reached and the search for alternative energy sources
has assumed new importance and relevance, it is clear that the world s commercial
infrastructure will depend on fossil fuels well into the foreseeable future. Indeed,
some authorities caution that unless drastic steps are taken today, the world will
deplete its fossil fuel resources long before commercially viable alternatives become
available. In this environment, determining how surging oil prices affect the U.S.
economy represents a timely and valuable enterprise. To this end, this paper provides
a review of the relevant peer reviewed and scholarly literature to determine the
impact of surging oil prices on the U.S. economy, followed by a summary of the
research and important findings in the conclusion.

volatility in global oil prices, beginning with a significant increase in 1999 that
continued to accelerate until 2003, reaching an unprecedented pricing level of $145
a barrel in July 2008 (Ono, 2011). The Great Recession appears to have stunted this
acceleration in oil prices, though, at least in part and

Milk is Bad for Long Term Health Drinking milk is one of the oldest American

problems that are not expected.
Humans and cows are different in so many ways. One example of this is that
humans and the domestic cat are the only mammals that continue to drink milk
after weaning ( Milk ). A mother s breast milk, which is more nutritious for humans

hard they try to leave they wind up right back to where they originally were. The
major themes in Dublinersthat was articulated in Joyce s stories was the
repetitiveness of routines, and the sense of escape. The Dead was the last story in
Dubliners that brought together all of his ideas. Joyce created Gabriel in many ways

Objective:
We will determine the acceleration of the weights of an Atwood s Machine, both
experimentally and theoretically. We will attempt to verify Newton s Second law
which is a mathematical statement relating force, mass, and acceleration. Newton s
Second law states that acceleration, a, is directly related to net force, F, and inversely
related to mass, m. Naturally this give F=ma. Using the Atwood s Machine
experimental acceleration data (for 10 different runs with 10 different combinations
of masses) will be gathered and compared to the theoretical acceleration which is
predicted by Newton s Second Law using a modified version of F=ma. The only two
variables in this system system that we will control are the the two masses. We ...

The inversely proportional relationship between total mass and acceleration is also
shown in our graph. I took the liberty of plotting the non constant mass by F vs.
aexp. Which clearly showed that with an increase in total mass resulted in a
gradual decrease of the acceleration of the system. There were several sources of
error in our experiment. But none affected the ability for a relationship between
mass, acceleration, force to be drawn. The largest error was the one mentioned
above. But its source was the easiest to account for. We mis imputed the value of
the spoke length into DataStudio. Luckley this mistake was easily remedied due
to the design of the pulley. The electronic eye was recording a time that was
exactly half of what it should have been. This time data produced an acceleration
that was exactly double what it should be. Therefore this was issue was easily
remedied by dividing the times by 2. Other sources of error were due to the
frictional forces in the pulley system, also the masses of the weights might not have
been perfect. Air resistance was a major player when the difference in masses was
large, therefore acceleration was high. The weights could have been verified to
eliminate that error, and more advanced physics could have been used to take into
account the friction of the pulley and the air resistance.

hearing aids in order to fix our ear. We have lasik surgery in order to fix our eyes,
People... you can t fix stupid! by Ron White . So let me start, what comes into your
mind when you hear the word lasik? So basically lasik means an eye correct vision
which needs a laserto reshape the inner cornea. There are three types of eye
conditions, the nearsighted, farsighted and astigmatism. So first let us know the
nearsighted or (myopia), basically means that people who are nearsighted they can t
clearly see a text or a thing that is too far from them and they need to move closer
in that certain area, nearsighted people usually experiencing blur vision when they
are far well they can read it but then the text itself will turn into a blur one. It can be
a common cause of having a blur vision. So here is a sample picture of myopia. The
second is farsighted or (hyperopia), basically means that people who are farsighted
they are unable to see things clearly they can see it but it needs to have a good
distance most of them usually imagine or foresight on what will happen on the things
that has been shown in front they can clearly see it because they are... Show more

and $1630 with the older model excimer lasers not guided by wave front technology

41. The Irony In The Cask Of Amontillado
There are numerous interesting stories we have read and characters we have come
to know throughout our readings. I found all of them interesting, but I found
Cathedral to be a very intriguing story. The personality that Carver gave the
husband was interesting to me because other than his jealousy of Robert due to his
relationship with his wife, he had no real reason as to why he did not like him.
Jealousy can be a dangerous thing if we allow it to consume our lives and I felt
that this is what the husband was doing. Robert was blind and the wife had worked
for him and had kept in touch via recordings. He was allowing his jealousy to blind
him from seeing what a good person Robert actually was. The husband was a major
part of the stories... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Themes may be interpreted differently and that is what keeps the stories
interesting. A theme that is seen throughout our readings is consequences. This
theme could fit into The Cask of Amontillado, Babylon Revisited, The Birthmark,
A Good Man is Hard to Find, Good Country People, and Where Are You Going,
Where Have You Been. In all of these stories the character s actions end with
consequences. In The Cask of Amontillado, Fortunato believes he is just having
fun with Montresor, but receives grave consequences when Montresor plots to kill
him after he has taken more embarrassment than he can handle. Another example is
in Babylon Revisited. F. Scott Fitzgerald has a recurring theme of consequences.
First there is the overall view that people in the 1920 s had invested all of their
money in the stock market and then it crashed, thus leading to momentous amounts
of consequences because people were left with nothing. There are also
consequences for Charlie as the party life he had lived with his wife was actively
effecting his present situation and his future. He no longer had custody of his
daughter as a consequence of his behaviors. The Birthmark is another good example
of consequences. Aylmer is obsessed with removing Gerogiana s birthmark in order
to make her more beautiful. He goes through all kinds of experiments in order to
remove the mark. Eventually he does get the birthmark to fade away, but
42. Lascaux Cave Painting
The famous shaft scene of Lascaux: a man with a bird head and a bison is the
artwork that I chose for my original art work analysis. The artwork belongs to the
movement in the Paleolithic time period created by an unknown cave artist during
the prehistoric era. (Web)One of the most intriguing images from the latter of these
three periods is the so called Shaft Scene of Lascauxcave, dating from approximately
17,300 years B.P., in the Dordogne region of France. This image of the famous Bird
Man figure, like most Palaeolithic art, defies unambiguous explanation and although
symblolic elements are clearly visible in the depiction, other more obscure elements
do not permit us to offer a simple interpretation of what we are seeing. (Web)The
painting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By comparing the two, clearly the shaft scene has is very simplistic and less
detailed since it contains far less characters and contour lines. Exploring the two
cave s paintings gave me an in depth look at how prehistoric artists in France
masterfully employ unique art perspectives in their artistic endeavors. Depictions of
animals are common to both the Lascaux and Chauvet Cave drawings which imply a
grandiose appreciation for wildlife by both cultures. (Web) In addition, another
similarity present in both artworks is the abstract markings of figures and symbols
indicative of both traditions of the people in the Paleolithic time period. In the
Chauvet painting, the contour lines are more refined and detailed as opposed to the
Lascaux paintings which are more simple and bold. Furthermore, the Lascaux
paintings implement a multitude of vibrant colors such as red, yellow, and orange
while the majority of the Chau vet paintings lacked this quality in retrospect. By
carbon dating, the time of the Chau vet painting is circa 27,000 years old while the
Lascaux painting is circa 17,300 years old. I do believe that the Chau vet paintings
are older since the majority are black in color even though the detail is extensive.

RISK AND RETURN
op yo R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company (RJR) was the second largest tobacco firm in
the world, with a share of approximately 30 per cent of the U.S. cigarette market.
R.J. Reynolds was a wholly owned subsidiary of
Reynolds American Inc. (NYSE: RAI). The company faced some unique challenges;
for example, most consumer product companies did not have to spend millions of
dollars annually on advertising aimed at discouraging use of their product for
consumers under the age of 18. R.J. Reynolds had been subject to significant
litigation for many decades, but the company had a strong track record in defending
tobaccorelated cases in court and assured its shareholders that it would continue to
take appropriate steps to maintain a successful litigation record.

45. The Social And Cultural Profile Of The Family
The Social and Cultural Profile of the Family
Most of Myanmar/Burma is Buddhist. The Saw family is Christian of the
Presbyterian denomination. My church, Paulin Memorial Presbyterian, sponsored
much of the Saw family to come over to Canada. Tha Hser said that the country s
persecution of the Christian religion was not the reason he left Myanmar. He said
the reason he left was politics . He went on to say that It is messed up over there . .
. it is much better over here . 89 per cent of Myanmar is Buddhist (Infoplease.com,
n.d.). Schooling is mandatory in Myanmar only until age nine; however, they have
many universities which is surprising considering it is a small country (Wikipedia,
2008). This is probably due to the country s large population. With more
globalization it seems to me that Myanmar s economy may grow like its neighbors
China and India. There has been a big push for English in Myanmar s schools
(Wikipedia, 2008), and I don t know if this has been a remnant of English
colonization or if it is sparked by a desire to be like China since I have heard there
are many private English schools in China. In 2002, Tha Hser came to Canada
with his mother and three sisters as refugees. Tha Hser met Larcapaw in Thailand.
They got married in 2004, and she came to Canada in 2005. Tha Hser marrying
Larcapaw enabled her to come to Canada as a family re unification immigrant. A push
factor for the Saws to leave Myanmar was that Myanmar is so corrupt.

Survivors say there were more than 100 bodies. This was a category 4 hurricane
wiping out thousands or people. Hurricane in Galveston, Texas is the hurricane
that changed people s lives, the worst hurricane of all time... The Galveston
Hurricane was a strong force of nature that affected many people. First, hurricanes
form in warm water. Therefore, states or places closest to the equator will most
likely get hurricanes. In different places, it has different names, like a typhoon or a
cyclone. Hot air rises making less hot air below. It makes clouds, then circulate to
form a hurricane. On the scale, a category 5 hurricane can have winds up to
157mph, maybe even more. Next, it was in 1990 on September 8, in the state of

was an unwead tennagaer when she had Howell. In his early childhood he claims
he was abused by his mother s partner. When he was eighteen he dropped out of
high school to pursue a career as a rock star. When he was in his twenties he caused
his familyto get kicked out of their church, the Seventh Day Advent, because he was
questioning the way the leaders interpreted the Seven Seals of the bible. Soon after
being kicked out of the church he found the Branch Davidians and joined the
religious group. Once in the group he changed his name to David Koresh.

48. Identity In The Dark Knight
Clearly the name of the movie The Dark Knight is referring to the batman. He is the
knight that protects Gotham and its people of any threats, but he is a dark knight
because he protects Gotham in shadows and most of the scenes in the movie of him
in the batman suit is at night. And of course, a hero needs a villain and that villain is
Joker. Movie starts with Joker robbing a bank and telling all the robbers to kill each
other and in the end, he is alone standing, which shows how twisted and crazy he is.
Now both batmanand joker are hiding their identity in the movie by wearing a mask
and make up, which could be recognized as one of the theme of identity in the movie.
The disguise to hide the identity can lead to the question, what can
49. Jetblue Airlines Summary of Case
Barger, previously president and COO of JetBlue, was named the airline s CEO.
JetBlue s board promoted Barger to the CEO role in the wake of a highly publicized
operational crisis in February that led to the cancellation of over 1,100 JetBlue flights
and adversely affected the travel plans of thousands of passengers. Though numerous
interviews and meetings during the past day allowed Barger to outline his vision for
the airline, he realized that he needed to move quickly in implementing that vision to
maintain the confidence of customers, employees, and shareholders.
Just a few miles outside Barger s window was John Fitzgerald Kennedy (JFK)

JetBlue began operations as a low cost carrier (LCC) in 2000 and, by the ... Show

Attracting passengers who would have otherwise traveled by car or bus, Southwest
was able to maintain high levels of plane utilization, thereby keeping its operating
costs low enough to support its discounted fares.
A key component of Southwest s ability to manage costs was its reliance on a single
type of plane the Boeing 737. * Over time, Southwest s ground and flight personnel
became very familiar with the 737; this decreased the airline s average turnaround
time between landing a plane and putting it back into the air. * This efficiency,
combined with the shrewd use of fuel hedges, buoyed Southwest s profits.
* Attempts by competitors to mimic Southwest s LCC model typically were
unsuccessful, as demonstrated by the infamous rise and fall of no frills People
Express Airlines during the 1980s and the short lived attempts of several major
airlines including Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines to create
LCC subsidiaries during the 1990s.
By 2006, Southwest was firmly established as the only consistently profitable airline
in an industry rocked by deregulation, fare wars, overcapacity, and the terrorist
attacks of September 11, 2001.
Specifically, Southwest was the only airline in America to show a profit for each
year since 1973 up to 2005.
After September 11, the airline industry
50. Mandala Religion Essay
The beliefs and symbols illustrated in my mandala are positioned in a way that they
connect to each other. The first Hindu belief is Brahman. I put the symbol of
Brahman on the bottom of the mandala to show that it controls and connects to the
other four beliefs. Next, the belief of multiple gods will be placed on the right side
of Brahman because he is one of the many gods that the Hindus believe in. On the
other side of Brahman will be Dharma because they both have to do with balancing
society and the universe. On top of Dharma will be Karma. I will put it in this
position because Dharma affects your Karma. If you follow rules then your Karma
will be good, and if you don t follow the rules then your Karma won t be as good.
Lastly, Samsara will be placed next to Karma and Dharma. Samsara would be
placed next to these beliefs because your Karma is what you will receive or be like
in your next life. Dharma connects to Samsara because the release called Moksha
will be achieved if you follow certain spiritual and ritual practices to have a good
relation and personal experience with Gods. There are many other ways that all these
beliefs connect to each other, but the ways I just talked about relate to the illustrations
I have drawn on the mandala.
I illustrated the belief of Brahman by using the Earth, Sun, and water droplets as
symbols. I choose to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I thought these two symbols represent dharma straight forward and they were easy
to identify what they were. The social class triangle represents each of the levels of
social class that the Hindus are recognized as. If you follow your dharma which is
performing and following duties and rules of your social class, then you will
contribute to a better world and a stronger social class. I drew the rocks balancing to
represent that they believed that as you follow your dharma, they contribute to both
the harmony and balance of society and the

The history of ancient peoples extends far longer a lifetime, but just what happened
behind all this history? Who created the wheel, discovered astronomy and even

Chaldeans have a great and long history generating from Mesopotamia. They are the
descendants of Mesopotamian nations and have lived there for thousands of years. (

Most nations that originated from Mesopotamia developed the first languages

52. Nominalism Essay
Nominalism The great revival of philosophical and theological study which the
thirteenth century witnessed was conditioned by the influence of Aristotle. The
theory of the universe propounded by the Stagirite had to be reconciled with the
traditional Platonic Augustinian realism. This Thomas Aquinas undertook to do,
following, Aristotle as closely as possible. Duns Scotus, on the other hand, attempted
to maintain the ancient realism, while supporting it by modern or Aristotelian
methods. Interests and tendencies, however, came up in his work which drove his
disciples away from his position. The growth of empirical research and psychological
analysis together with the new activity of the reason in the epistemological field on

In respect of the theory of cognition, where Duns Scotus had placed between the
perceiving subject and the object perceived a sensible species and an intelligible
species, Ockham considers these as superfluous machinery. Objects call forth sense
impressions in us, which are transmuted by the active intellect into mental images.
These images are thus a product of the intellect, not species which flow from the
object into the intellectus possibilis. The reality of these images is thus, in the
modern use of the terms, not objective but subjective. This is true not merely of the
terms of first intention formed directly from sense impression, but also of the terms
of second intention, i.e., the abstract terms which take note of common attributes, or
universals. These latter correspond to a tendency of the human mind, which can not
perceive individuals without at the same time attempting to form a general concept. A
white object simultaneously suggests abstract whiteness; an extended, related,
enduring object forces the conception of extension, relation, duration. The result of
this line of reasoning is the absolute subjectivity of all concepts and universals and
the limitation of knowledge to the mind and its concepts although these are real
entities because of their subjective existence in the mind, reproducing the actual
according to the constitution of the mind. Thus Ockham is really the pioneer of
modern epistemology. The
53. Hardware Controls, Proper Risk Assessment, And
Management...
3. There are many components including each of the general controls, applications
controls, proper risk assessment, and management policies. Each of the previously
mentions plays a key roles in the organizational framework but must be utilized in the
proper manner to work reliably and effectively.
General Controls include software, hardware, computer operations controls data
security, implementation, administrative controls and basically dictate all aspects of
the organizations information technology infrastructure. Software controls monitor
systems and prevent access from authorized users. Hardware controls make sure
that the actual hardware is safe and is always checking to make sure that the
equipment doesn t malfunction. This also covers the backup systems. Computer
operations controls keep the data in check by correctly storing it. Data security
does just as it suggests keep the data safe in whatever form so that it is not
destroyed or altered. Implementation is basically the systems checker and makes sure
that at each point the controls are working. Lastly administrative controls are used to
create rules and procedures that need to be carried out in order to keep the system
running in proper order.
Application Controls are more specific and are often more unique to each
organization and make sure that the accurate data is processed for the organization.
These controls are input, processing, and output. Input controls which is just like a
fact checker and make
