Crash safety ratings for the passenger vehicle means the rank that vehicle get after passing through
the entire crash safety analysis test. For the successful sell or increase demand of vehicle, it must
have crash safety rating high. For any vehicle buyer safety is the main concern. How much safe
the vehicle is determines the demand of the vehicle in the market. Crash safety analysis test
examines the different parts of the vehicle to check if all parts are functioning well or not. It
includes the test of seat belts, head restraints, anti lock brakes, traction control, all wheel drive etc.
So, the vehicle getting good rank in crash safety analysis test will get high ratings.

There are various factors that plays role while buying cars that are the age of the customer,

mountain region will prefer high crash safety rating car as compared to the people living in plain

Most concerned buyers with crash safety ratings: I cannot say exactly this type of buyers are
most concerned with the crash safety ratings because all are concerned with their safety. Nobody
wants to risk their life. But for some extent there are some factors that impact on the importance of
crash safety ratings for different buyers and that are the age, education, geographical region of the
customer, etc. The customer living in the mountain region is most likely to prefer high crash safety
rating cars as compared to those living in plain region. Also, the customer who loves stylish cars
may choose low rating cars.

Examples Of Determinism In Arrival
Determinism and Free Will in Arrival
If you could see your whole life from start to finish, would you change things? This is one of the
heaviest hitting questions in the movie Arrival and it serves as the philosophical launching point
for my discussion here. This question comes from the main character Louise directed at her future
husband. As the movie progresses, we as viewers learn that the main character Louise has been
given the ability to see into the future. Part of these visions include the death of her future
daughter to a rare disease at a young age. Yet, even though she can see these events of the future
and even though she knows of the pain and suffering they will bring, she still chooses to follow
the same course of her life because she recognizes some type of greater purpose. It is through the
actions and decisions of Louise that this movie explicitly explores the notion of whether
knowledge of future events would affect or negate our concept of free will as human beings. Like
Ted Chiang s short story entitled The Story of You Life that... Show more content on

Rowlands discusses this in Chapter 9 of his book and he argues that this concept allows us to
understand what it means to be a human being and how we are to achieve authenticity in our lives.
Namely, this type of thinking causes us to live in the light of our death. To do so, we require a
different understanding of time, one that transcends our standard linear notions of a past, present,
and future. By having a being towards death understanding, we begin to see everything in relation
to the now. This understanding applies directly to our understanding of our mortality. As finite
beings, this mindset makes us confront our finite nature and creates a sense of meaning through the
reality of death. It is through this realization that we find our meaning and true

Lake Pollution Issues
The issue regarding the Lake of the Ozarks is one that has been floating around for some time.
The water quality has gone down the drain in recent years due to numerous factors such as
leaking sewage and trash pollution. This issue is an environmental concern because it makes the
escherichia coli (e. coli) levels in the water go up, which can lead to illnesses and deaths of people
and animals across the area. There was said to have been as much as 15,000 gallons of sewage that
led directly into the Lake of the Ozarks(DNR). This is obviously a problem because it is affecting
the health of everyone and everything; however, people are asking why it may matter.
Many people care about their lake. It s where they can go to swim and hang out with friends.
Residents care about the pollution issue that is going on because more and more people are
deciding to live by the lake full time which increases lake pollution. Another aspect that is being
affected with the pollution are the animals in the water. The e. coli levels in the area are shifting
because of the pollution issues. When the sewage is released into the lake it most definitely does
not help with keeping the lake clean. As more pollution problems come up, they need to be fixed
by the public living there. The residents surrounding the lake need to pay more attention of what is
being thrown into the lake and the status of their sewage tanks to insure they are not leaking or
damaged. If those tasks are fixed little by little

A Brief Note On High Performance Computing ) Frameworks...
HPC (high performance computing) frameworks are based on both software and hardware
platforms. The mechanism called fault tolerance is nothing but process which allows system
(frequently software based) to continue working properly in case of failure of its components (one
or more faults) on MPI (message passing interface). In HPC systems like grid computing, cloud
computing etc. fault tolerancemethod highly applicable in order to ensure that long operating
applications are finished their tasks according to time. Therefore, there are different types of fault
tolerance methods introduced in literature.
The goal of this section is to present the study on various fault tolerance methods with its working
and issues associated for HPC systems on MPI computations. Fault tolerance methods are basically
divided into five main research points listed below:
Migration methods
Redundancy methods
Failure masking methods
Failure semantic methods
Recovery methods

Big business versus small business has been an issue since business started. Small businesses need
to have a solid structure and a large backing of consumers to survive against big business. Josh

Ben was bypassed when he was familiar with the IT office going through him for such needs.
The team just wanted to bounce a few ideas off of them, but Ben thought it was a formal meeting
that he had to be present and a part of. The team was angry because Ben was so aggressive. They
just needed to be reminded that IFG had certain protocols they needed to follow. Josh s team
also struggled with coming up with the costs and benefits of their proposed work for Sheema
(McKeen et al., 2012). They wouldn t be aware of the fiscal cost until they knew exactly what
they were capable of. It would be difficult for his team to outline their budget, but they could come
up with an approximate estimate of their costs and benefits for Sheema. They could sit down with
her and explain the possible worth of their proposed ideas, so she would not be bothering them
during their process.
How can Josh win support for his team s three point plan to use technology to help IFG reach its
customers? When Josh and his team was finally ready for his presentation, it was picked apart by
the IT office. They exploited every hole in his three point plan. Sheema was concerned about the
business values of the initiatives. Ben needed a clear commitment on the benefits. John was
worried about bad reviews by customers. Rick had a security concern about the cloud. In order to

The issue here is injured dancers and dancers dancing over or recovering from injuries. This does
not follow any kind of predictable timeline in terms of recovery. From what we know of
Boylston s injury it occurred during the Giselle and involved her ankle. Executing 32 fouettГ©s
requires turning on one ankle for a few minutes, really grinding that leg into the floor almost. So
perhaps to prevent reinjuring her ankle, Boylston dumbed down the choreography. As we know,
not all great Odette/Odiles have performed the 32 fouettГ©s Maya Plisetskaya is a leading

Igor Stravinsky Conductors
In Igor Stravinsky s standpoint of a conductor, he describes a conductor being a field . . . more for
the making of careers and exploitation of personalities . . . than a profession for the application of
exact and standardized disciplines. It is conclude that the great conductor . . . substitutes looking for
listening . . . [that] the important part of the performance becomes a gesture.
The essay begins with a comparison of conducting and politics. Politics is given a bad connotation;
as it is seen as a corrupt dealing. Stravinsky states, The success of a conductor can be an incomplete
musician . He wants people to understand that conductors have no talent but are anglers , men
scheming for fame. For example, conductors can enchant the society women and critics on which is

Machiavelli and the Use of Antiquity in The Prince and The...
Machiavelli and the Use of Antiquity in The Prince and The Discourses
The Renaissance was a time of classical revival and a turning point from the Middle Ages to the
Early Modern period in the course of history. Ancient texts and artifacts became sources of
inspiration for intellectuals and artists alike, and the desire to emulate or even surpass the
achievements of the past prompted them to study antiquities closely and saw them as models and
guidance. People were consciously distinguishing themselves from the medieval thoughts and using
history to make something new for their own era. In the field of political philosophy there s no
exception. Niccolo Machiavelli is perhaps the most representative and groundbreaking figure of this
trend in political philosophy. With his erudition in ancient literature, histories and political thoughts,
Machiavelli draws various sources from antiquity to critic and response to the political environment
of histime. While one may find seemingly discrepancies in The Prince and The Discourse on the
First Ten Books of Tius Livy, the use of histories as guide to demonstrate or propose ideal rules is
apparent in both works. We should note that synthesizing ancient philosophy or thoughts with
contemporary thoughts is nothing new. Thomas Aquinas, for example, reconciled Aristotelianism
and Christianity in his work Summa Theologica, using ancient antiquity to back up his Christian
beliefs. What is so noteworthy in Machiavelli is his emphasis and

Genes can either be sex linked or autosomal. If a gene appears mostly in one sex chances are the
gene is sex linked and if it appears frequently in both sexes it is most likely autosomal. Using
Drosophila melanogaster, also known as the fruit fly, we will determine whether the gene is sex
linked or autosomal. Drosophila melanogasters have a relatively short life span and are an excellent
organism for genetic studies because it has simple food requirements, occupies little space, is
hardy, completes its life cycle in about 12 days at room temperature, produces large numbers of

Argumentative Essay About Video Games
Video games are ubiquitous in modern life. It has not only been a source of entertainment, but also
played an important role in a child growth and brain development. Many parents have a bad
perspective towards video games, they consider it as a devil that corrupts mind and engages their
child into non productive, virtual, and harmful environment. Hence, they try to stop them
completely from playing games by all means. This kind of attitude and behavior from the parent
might not only effect their relationship with their child, but also deprive the child from some
advantages of playing video games that enhance brain power. Therefore, parents should allow their
children engage with video games in reasonable amount.
One main concern of parents is that their child would become an addict, and would not be able to
perform as a healthy successful individual in the society when they grow up. Indeed, intense and
prolong gaming will lead to addiction, which can decrease a person s productivity, and, disturbing
the daily routine, meaning they would stay up all night. However, to be called as an addict one
has to show characteristics of addiction, which is a factor of personal behavior, performance, etc.

Mary Warren Character Analysis
Mystery of Mary Warren
Everything is not what it seems, while this lyric may seem trite, it holds great truth. People, places,
activities, each can be viewed in more than one way depending on the circumstances. From these
viewpoints spring complexities and mystery in the shape of differing facades.
Mary Warren, a young woman living in Massachusetts during the Salem witch trials, shows no
exception to differing viewpoints. Throughout The Crucible, in which Mary Warren is a character,
the very children whom the town considers holy, appear also to perpetrate the vicious crime of
murder through false allegations of witchcraft. Unable to recognize the children s crime because of

The sudden change in Mary s opinion of both the girls and John Proctor, exhibits her apparent
inability to stand firm against the manipulative powers of Abigail. While this trait could seem
negative, passed off as fickle, Mary was able to keep her true identity a mystery to Salem.
Through turning against John, Mary deceived not only him, but indirectly Abigail too. After
Mary had sided with Abigail and the other girls, she accused John of personifying . . . the devil s
man (524), meaning a wizard. Previously, Abigail and John Proctor were involved, a relationship
in which Mary knew of. By accusing John of wizardry, Mary hurt the only person in Salem
Abigail had strong, positive feelings towards, likely knowing the consequences of her accusation.
While the accusation of John could have been simply the opportunity of the moment, it is likely
Mary used her personal knowledge of Abigail to get revenge after being accused of witchcraft. A
facade of innocence allowed Mary to deceive those around her, often without their knowledge.
Along with giving the impression of manipulability, Mary shows apparent genuine concern for
those who appear to control her. When the governor visited the Proctors home to arrest Elizabeth,
Mary was there working as a servant and was asked about the court s main piece of evidence, the
poppet , or doll. Mary also answered Reverend Hale, who asked about the needle in the poppet,
insisting she meant no harm

Ethics Of Drones Essay
Drones or unmanned aircraft are like a hammer or gun. They are tools. They are not inherently
good or bad. How they are used becomes the ethical issue at hand. Drones have a broad spectrum
of wage; from the delivery of pizza, to weather forecasting, to weapons platforms in armed
conflict. It is the purpose of this paper to show the use of drones in warfare is necessary and can
be ethically justified using the principles of both deontology and utilitarianism. The fact that drones
are remotely controlled, sometimes from great distances, does not remove the operators from
responsibility, no more than the bullet fired from a gun, it is still the responsibility of the soldier

Deontology would say that it, is the pilot s choice to attack a known target or no to attack a
known target. Michael Bergmann advises this would be distinction between objective and
subjective moral duties he also notes this is fairy common (Bergmann). I liken this to the
choices the pilot believes they are in possession of, versus the reality of the choices they
ultimately have. Deontologicaly speaking the pilot would only be held responsible for the good
or wrongness of their actions alone. For example, if a pilot controlling a drone was sent to back
up allied troops pinned down by enemy fire and fired two missiles with the first missile striking
and neutralizing the enemy combatants. This would be a good thing. However if that second
missile missed the target and hit a building where it is unknown if the occupant inside are hostile,
it is still a justified use of the drone to defeat an enemy and the drone pilot would not held

Summary Of Penelope Landlow s Hold Me Like A Breath
They Said She Couldn t. So She Did
There are two families in Penelope Landlow s life. The Family, which is an illegal business run
by her father that sells organs on the black market, and her family, who are scared to even let her
leave the property in fear of losing their precious daughter. It is dangerous enough for a normal
child, like Penny s brother, Carter, to go out into the public when the FBI are against him, but
for Penny, going out into the real world would be walking to her death. Her rare blood disorder
leaves Penny at the mercy of bruises, appearing because of anything from a too tight hug to a
sharp corner. While the world is deemed too dangerous for her by her parents, Penelope still dreams
of going to New York City. After years of waiting, Penelope finally attains what she wants just not
the way she wants it. When tragedy strikes the Landlow family, Penny has no choice but to flee to
New York. There, she discovers the truthto her family s murder, reveals secrets that could change
her life s path, and falls in love. Tiffany Schmidt writes about PennyЕ› brave journeys, her

Funeral Home Industry
Introduction:
There has always been a death industry but as the industry changes from product based purchases to
experience based there is a growing need in the industry to accommodate for how the industry is
doing to shift in the upcoming generations. The existing funeral homes are the traditional style
interiors that the previous generation got accustom with the product base design, but more funerals
are become more personal and deviate from the previous funeral ideas. Just like every funeral
service is unique, the grieving process is different from one person to the next. With providing a
service that takes into account of different techniques, whether through the space, social interaction
or counselling helps process the grief of the individual. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The funeral industry is changing from product based to experience based, and from burial to
cremations (National Funeral Directors Association [NFDA], 2015; Koop Kemp, 2007;
Wolfelt, 2004). Traditional funeral homes started off as having funerals in the deceased homes,
then creating buildings that have a home like interiors. The generation at the time was all about
the price of the required products; like the price of the casket, what was the casket made of,
wood or metal, what was the best price for the burial lots (Steven Kemp, 2007). The industry was
previously mostly a product driven industry but, as the industry is changing the funeral service
must focus on being customer and experience driven (Wolfelt, 2004). The baby boomer
generation is coming, they are sceptical of traditional funerals but want some sort of service and
want more information about the entire funeral process and more ideas for personalizing the
service (Wolfelt, 2004). Through the generation difference and the changing market that allows
for more of an experience customizable space that depends on tradition, customs and beliefs of
the customer (Wolfelt, 2004; Parkes Laungani Young, 2003). The baby boomers are more likely
to choose cremation for body disposition (Wolfelt, 2004; NFDA, 2015) which provides a market
change within the industry. The business of the past is not, and cannot be, the business of the
future. But there is a future in funeral service (Wolfelt, 2004). Today s funeral director must
consciously work to create a package of experience to offer families in conjunction with or even
instead of the product (Wolfelt, 2004). Through bundling of products, it allows for easier
understanding of the products but still allows for customization of the service that the client

Quetiapine Case Studies
Quetiapine Fumarate is a novel atypical antipsychotic used in the treatment of schizophrenia,
bipolar I mania, bipolar II depression and bipolar I depression [1]. The antipsychotic effect of
quetiapine might be mediated through antagonist activity at dopamine and serotonin receptors.
Quetiapine specifically antagonized the D1 and D2 dopamine, the alpha 1 adrenoreceptor and alpha
2 adreno receptor, and 5 HT1A and 5 HT2 serotonin receptor subtypes[1].
In vitro: Quetiapine has shown affinity for various neurotransmitter receptorsincluding dopamine,
serotonin, histamine, and adrenergicreceptors, Quetiapine exihibited binding characteristics at the
dopamine 2receptorsimilar to those of clozapine [1].
In vivo: In animal models, Quetiapineexihibited a preclinical profile suggestive of antipsychotic
activity with a reduced tendency to cause extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS) and sustained prolactin
elevation.Quetiapine altered neurotensin neurotransmission and c fos expression in limbic but not

Motors, Gears, And Generators Lab
Motors, Gears, Generators Lab
Objectives:
1) Learn about motor and generator operation.
2) Generate and use motor torque/speed curves.
3) Learn about gear ratios and observe how they affect the rotational speed and torque of a motor or
generator.
Pre lab Questions
Answer the following questions before you begin the lab: For the motor characteristic curve shown
below, determine the equation of the line: torque (T) as a function of the rotational speed ( ). In the
figure below, is the stall torque and is the no load speed. The equation of the line should be written
in terms of the variables above.
How can you calculate the gear ratio of a simple gear train with two gears? List 4 expressions that
you could use to calculate the gear ratio. What is the difference between a motor and a generator?
(Hint: what are the energy conversions that occur in each)
Problem Description:
Motors and generators are used frequently in engineering applications. In fact, you will use them
in your final project. Gears (or pulleys) are usually used to transmit the power from the motor
(input) to the output. A pair of gears forms a simple gear train. As engineers, you will need to
understand how motors and generators work in order to pick appropriate ones to use in different
applications or to know how your design will behave when hooked up to a particular motor
/generator. In your final project for this course, you will use a generator (i.e. for wind power
generation) and

Essay on Women s Rights in Canadian History
A Women s Rights to Equality in Canada
Every woman has the right to moral, legal and political choice. As we look to the past, women
fought for the right to be treated the same as men and fundamentally to have the same rights as
men. Prior to the turn of the century, women had little to no rights. World War Iand II gave way to
change, allowing women to work and eventually allowing them to vote. The feminist movement
has made drastic progress since the war. Today women are seen as equal and have the right not
only to vote, but to be educated. In 1977 the Canadian Human Rights Act ensured that women
could no longer be discriminated based on their sex, race, religion or sexuality. The act specified
that there must be equal pay for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women were also allowed to get educations and go into teaching and nursing positions. The
Person s Case was another highlight which demonstrates the advancements of women s right in
Canadian history. This case included five women who ultimately help transform the way
women were seen. Emily Murphy played a significant role in establishing women s rights which
led to women being called persons in matters of rights and privileges. Furthermore, another
female Canadian named Nellie McClung helped in getting the right to vote for women.
Ultimately resulting in the May 24th, 1918 Act allowing all women 21 years of age or more in
Canada the official right to vote even if they did not have the provincial license. The war brought
many changes to Canada and around the world. Women were finally being recognized for their
efforts and perseverance and acquiring new freedoms and improved rights for themselves. During
the 1920 s, women became more involved in society and continued to participate in the work
force. Women continued to make half the earning men were making at that time but by 1929
women made up about 20% of the workforce. The Women s Labour League worked to defend
women workers and the labour movement. They exposed shortfalls in the minimum wage laws and
fought for equal pay, maternity care and a women right for birth control. Women were finally
making their mark in government. By 1939,

Why Are We Dreaming Research Paper
Why do we dream? I see dreaming as benefiting humans by helping our conscious and
subconscious minds shake hands and come to an agreement, so to speak. Our brains operate on
conscious, subconscious and unconscious levels, and I believe there is a strong link between our
subconscious minds and our dreams. Perhaps the information we store in our subconscious minds
during waking hours manifest into these hallucinatory pictures while we sleep. The part of our
brain which operates on a conscious level is significantly diminished when we are asleep, which
gives the subconscious part of our brain more energy to process what it s learned or stored.
When the lights go out, Subconscious Brain raises the curtain and puts on a weird show while
Conscious Brain sits quietly in the audience. Subconscious Brain is like, Finally! I ve been
waiting all day for this! I m so jazzed! Meanwhile, Conscious Brain says, ... Show more content on

There is no part of the brain that is totally inactive during dream state, but of course some parts of
the brain are more active than others. One particularly active area of the brain during REM sleep
is the limbic system, which includes the hippocampus and the amygdala. This area of the brain is
involved in processing emotions and fear, among other things. The prefrontal cortex shows low
activity during REM sleep, which is responsible for logical reasoning and self control. During
dreams, the brain allows the controlling side of the brain to give way to the more primitive, less
rational way of thinking, which is better known as the Activation Synthesis Model of dreaming. The
brain synthesizes and interprets this internal activity and attempts to find meaning in these signals,
which results in dreaming. This model suggests that dreams are a subjective interpretation of
signals generated by the brain during sleep,

How Did The Government Cause Social Conflict In The French...
1790 s France had different groups with conflicting ideas on how their government should run. In
the French society, the rich wanted to stay rich and not pay taxes or accept other responsibilities.
The poor demanded change. The difference of opinions created a lot of conflicts because each
group had strong opinions on how the country should run. During the immediate period prior to and
during the French Revolution, the demands and interests of different groups caused social conflict.
For example the Third Estate demanded better voting procedures in order to address the inequality
between the Estates. Deficit spending was used selfishly by the First and Second Estate and The
King was indifferent to the hunger and poverty of the Third Estate (see right).
It was clear that the wealth of the First and Second Estate took advantage of the Third Estate, even
though the bourgeoisie had about eighty percent of the French population and wanted human
rights. When it came to The French government each of the three Estates would turn into a single
chamber legislature that would reform France in its own way (566 Spielvogel). Even though the
Third Estate had substantially more people, their vote was treated the same as the First and
Second Estates vote. The Third Estate wanted to change and Push its demands for voting by head
(566 Spielvogel), where each person would get one vote and the country was run by the population,
not by each Estate. This was rejected by the government and

Pros And Cons Of Truck Drivers
The one thing that commercial or owner operator truckers dread the most is getting into an
accident. Given the weight and size of a semi rig compared to the average car, an accident can be
very serious if not catastrophic. To make matters worse, even the most careful truck drivers aren t
guaranteed that they won t have an accident at some point in their careers. The reason is that any
one of the motor vehicles on the roadcan do something unexpected that leaves the truckdriver with
no way out.
However, one defense against this is learning how to read the intentions of other drivers. This gives

The Power Of Money In The Great Gatsby
The Power of Pennies Money is a power that comes with a price. In the 1920 s during the great
depression, money was a huge issue, because of all the people losing their jobs. This caused
people to do whatever they can to get it. In The Great Gatsby the characters suffer from a similar
problem: They all want money, but not all of them have it. They then do whatever they have to do
to climb to the top of the social ladder. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald shows the motif money is
power through the characters Daisy, Myrtle, and Gatsby. Daisy would suffer through any pain
as long as she got to be rich. Gatsby conveys Daisy s lust for money when he says, Her voice is
full of money (Fitzgerald 120). Daisy wants money more than anything else; even to the point that
it shows in her voice and actions. Everything she does is meticulously planned around keeping
her social status and access to money alive but not around her own happiness. She is even referred
to as The king s daughter and The golden girl further showing her desire for money(Fitzgerald
120). Daisy perfectly shows how money can take controlof life as it did to hers. Without her desire
for money, Daisy would not have done most of the things she ended up doing in The Great
Gatsby. Daisy will be shaped forever by the crude force of Tom s money (Jr. Leland S). To Daisy,
the force of money is so strong that she will allow others to control how she lives just to obtain its
power. Even though Tom is the one who has

The Role Of Oxidative Stress On A Free Radicals
The role of oxidative stress is the imbalance of detoxified free radicals. When the body fails to
detoxify free radicals, the free radicals take an electron from another molecule. As a result, the
molecule is no longer stable. An unstable molecule can lead to damage within the cell and cause
the cell to function improperly. Therefore, preventing oxidative stress is very important for the
cell to maintain its proper function. If the cell does not function properly, an increase in
antioxidants can help to repair the cell. Antioxidants are produced by the cell but increasing
antioxidants for example in ones diet can reduce the amount of free radicals in the body that
cause harm and as a result lead to oxidative stress in the body. Oxidative stress is an imbalance
between the manifestation of reactive oxygen species and the bodies ability to detoxify the
reactive intermediates, the free radicals, or to repair the damage resulting from the free radicals.
Free radicals are uncharged molecules that have unpaired electrons. Free radicals floating in the
cell are dangerous because free radical will take and or steal electrons from other molecules in the
cell. When a molecule does not have the correct amount of electrons that specific molecule cannot
function properly. When one molecule does not function correctly is can cause other cells to
function improperly and cause damage to the cell and other parts. Free radicals in the body can

CHAPTER I: TYPES OF REPRESENTATION OF WOMEN IN VIDEO GAMES
1.1. Damsel in distress One of the most widely used clichГ©s in video games is Damsel in
distress. The word comes from French demoiselle, which means young lady . Demoiselle en
detresse translates into damsel in distress . As a trope the damsel in distress is a plot device in
which a female character is placed in a perilous situation from which she cannot escape on her own
and must be rescued by a male character, usually providing a core incentive or motivation for the
protagonist s quest.
First known example of the Damsel in distress can be seen in the myth about Perseus and his wife
Andromeda, who is chained naked to a rock by the sea as a sacrifice, and is then ... Show more

The protagonist Booker DeWitt, is sent there to find a young lady called Elizabeth, who has
been held captive by her father Zachary Comstock in a tower for most of her life. The scenario
sounds to be the classic example of Damsel in distress, but when Booker reaches the tower, he
realizes that she is not so gentle, helpless and defenseless as he thinks. She is unlike any
character that I have seen in a game, especially when you play through the entire thing and you
see how she evolves. DeWitt manages to rescue Elizabeth and they both get involved in the city
s conflict, during which she shows her strange, but strong superpowers. Her character is well
rounded. Her backstory is interesting and complex. Her flaws and the way she expresses
emotions makes her more real and human. She s resourceful and quick witted, with the ability
to break codes and pick locks like they re nothing (being locked in a tower with nothing but
books means she s got a lot of hobbies). Elizabeth has no experience with shooting and fighting,
but she effectively helps Booker. She looks for ammunition and health kits and provides them to
the main character. Her participation plays a vital role during battles. Elizabeth even saves
Booker life few times. That time Elizabeth gave him CRP on the beach when he almost drowned,
or that time she caught him with a blimp to save him from falling off the city, or that time she
gave herself up to Songbird to save his life. Elizabeth is essential to succeed. There is also no
sexual undertone in her relationship with Booker. Creative director of Irrational Games, said that In
terms of her body type, I think certainly people on the Internet have spent way more time thinking
about Elizabeth s chest than I have, he said. It s something I ve barely thought about. Levine said it
becomes disappointing for him when Elizabeth s measurements become the topic of conversation,
because this was

Political Identity In Persepolis
Are clothing, fashion, and lifestyle choices an effective way to make a political statement? Can
individuals express themselves without being constrained? This is an effective way and it is
shown in many ways. In the novel, Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, Marji does not wear her veil
because she is less of a person and it is a constant reminder of women oppression. In Politicsof the
Hoodie, the hoodie extinguishes individuality in this politicized life. In my eyes, this tactic is
very potent because in this society today, it is not easy to reside in. This is one of the ways that
citizens can express themselves instead of retorting to violence, especially teenagers today.
Despite the negative aspects that are created by the individuals on this earth, clothing, fashion,
and lifestyle decisions can make a compelling ideological statement. In the novel Persepolis, the
use of clothing, fashion, and lifestyle choices are used to make a political assertion. During the
Iranian Revolution, women were forced to wear the veil, but Marji disagreed with this. In the
text it states, Guns may shoot and knives may carve but we won t wear your silly scarves! (76).
This shows that the veil was a way women became involved in politics because it represented
their attitude towards the veil and how it should become an option. This was also a way that
women showed their rebellion towards the veil. Marji is approached by a female guardian of
the revolution and she insults her choice of clothing. In the text it states, Why are you wearing
those punk shoes? Aren t you ashamed to wear tight jeans like those? (133). This shows that
Marji s decision to wear her western style culture clothing to make a political statement was
effective. All of those items were forbidden it can be seen as an act of rebellion. Lastly, when
Marji received her Kim Wilde Poster, she loved it and hung it up in her room even though it was
not allowed. In the text it states It is so far out... I put my posters up in my room! (181). This
shows that even though posters conflicted with Iran s Islamic laws, this was Marji s way of
rebelling against the regime. Day by day society is regulated and it limits expression that can be
used to show individuality.

Attack of the Cloning Regulations Essay
Attack of the Cloning Regulations
Better and new technologies and ideas are constantly introduced through the passage of time, most
of which are just for the convenience of modern life. There is usually not much of an objection
when they are introduced into society because the pros of the idea greatly outweigh the cons;
however, this is not the case with the discovery that human cloning is now practically possible.
When a breakthrough like cloning comes about regulations must be set forth to insure the safety of
all those who would use it. On one side there are people who want strong restrictions on cloning.
They would prefer to have cloning be as limited as possible or even banned to prevent any
unethical or dangerous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the ban cloning side of the argument there is Canada s pro life pro family newspaper online
known as The Interim. It contains stories and editorials all about the subject of pro life and related
topics. Stop Cloning Now, the article selected from the February 2003 issue, is an editorial that
discusses the subject of cloning. The position that the editor takes is that cloning is just plain evil.
The main point presented is that cloning is unsafe and should not be performed under any
circumstances. The editorial is divided into several parts covering the topics of why cloning should
not be done, what the public thinks about cloning, and what politicians are doing about it.
Beginning the editorial with a comparison of cloning scientists to Jack Kevorkian is a very
powerful use of pathos. It creates in the mind of the reader the image that both cloning scientists
and Jack Kevorkian are evil. There are many people opposed to Dr. Kevorkian and with those who
would clone being made into the equivalent of the doctor then those same people should logically
be opposed to cloning.
Next, the editorial starts to talk about the problems with cloning. The first problem stated is that
cloning is unsafe. Ethos is gained in the article by quoting the head of Russia s Molecular Genetics
Institute,

Argumentative Essay On Antidepressants
Antidepressant Prescriptions
More than 17 million Americans have depression. Depression is much more than grieving or the
blues . It s a serious illness that can take a terrible toll on individuals and families says the Mayo
Clinic Health Center. In reality the effect of antidepressants is not that much, but it bases on the
certain person and their lifestyle such as sleeping habits, mood, etc. However many have benefited
from antidepressants and lives have changed for the better. Yet some have had no effects. Therefore,
antidepressants should not be prescribed for children diagnosed with depression. Medication can
relieve symptoms in most people with depression, and it s become the first line of treatment for
most types of the disorder. (par. 41 ). And the extra benefit of antidepressants was even less than we
saw when we analyzed only published studies. Scientists say in the article The Depressing News
About Antidepressants. (par. 8). One reason why antidepressants should not be prescribed is that
people could get used to taking those specific drugs, decreasing their effectiveness and increasing
the likelihood of reliance or addiction. If patients take medications too long, they might get too used
to them over time and eventually increase their dosage without consulting their doctors. If the
overmedication continued, patients might eventually take too much of their medication, leading to
an overdose. Many drugs should not be prescribed in case of patients trying to seek more
medication without professional assistance.
Many people experience side effects from taking medication that they are prescribed for mental
illnesses. The article Depression it is announced that medication and psychotherapy can take 4 to 8
weeks to have an effect. The delay can actually increase depression and risk of suicide(par. 48).
Three quarters of the benefit from antidepressants seems to be a placebo effect says scientists from
The Depressing New About Antidepressants. (par. 4). Most common side effects are fatigue,
nausea, anxiety, irritability, and dizziness. These side effects could impact how many who take the
drugs live, such as molding the rest of their lives around those side effects to make sure they are

  • 4. Examples Of Determinism In Arrival Determinism and Free Will in Arrival If you could see your whole life from start to finish, would you change things? This is one of the heaviest hitting questions in the movie Arrival and it serves as the philosophical launching point for my discussion here. This question comes from the main character Louise directed at her future husband. As the movie progresses, we as viewers learn that the main character Louise has been given the ability to see into the future. Part of these visions include the death of her future daughter to a rare disease at a young age. Yet, even though she can see these events of the future and even though she knows of the pain and suffering they will bring, she still chooses to follow the same course of her life because she recognizes some type of greater purpose. It is through the actions and decisions of Louise that this movie explicitly explores the notion of whether knowledge of future events would affect or negate our concept of free will as human beings. Like Ted Chiang s short story entitled The Story of You Life that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rowlands discusses this in Chapter 9 of his book and he argues that this concept allows us to understand what it means to be a human being and how we are to achieve authenticity in our lives. Namely, this type of thinking causes us to live in the light of our death. To do so, we require a different understanding of time, one that transcends our standard linear notions of a past, present, and future. By having a being towards death understanding, we begin to see everything in relation to the now. This understanding applies directly to our understanding of our mortality. As finite beings, this mindset makes us confront our finite nature and creates a sense of meaning through the reality of death. It is through this realization that we find our meaning and true ... • 5. Lake Pollution Issues The issue regarding the Lake of the Ozarks is one that has been floating around for some time. The water quality has gone down the drain in recent years due to numerous factors such as leaking sewage and trash pollution. This issue is an environmental concern because it makes the escherichia coli (e. coli) levels in the water go up, which can lead to illnesses and deaths of people and animals across the area. There was said to have been as much as 15,000 gallons of sewage that led directly into the Lake of the Ozarks(DNR). This is obviously a problem because it is affecting the health of everyone and everything; however, people are asking why it may matter. Many people care about their lake. It s where they can go to swim and hang out with friends. Residents care about the pollution issue that is going on because more and more people are deciding to live by the lake full time which increases lake pollution. Another aspect that is being affected with the pollution are the animals in the water. The e. coli levels in the area are shifting because of the pollution issues. When the sewage is released into the lake it most definitely does not help with keeping the lake clean. As more pollution problems come up, they need to be fixed by the public living there. The residents surrounding the lake need to pay more attention of what is being thrown into the lake and the status of their sewage tanks to insure they are not leaking or damaged. If those tasks are fixed little by little ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Machiavelli and the Use of Antiquity in The Prince and The... Machiavelli and the Use of Antiquity in The Prince and The Discourses The Renaissance was a time of classical revival and a turning point from the Middle Ages to the Early Modern period in the course of history. Ancient texts and artifacts became sources of inspiration for intellectuals and artists alike, and the desire to emulate or even surpass the achievements of the past prompted them to study antiquities closely and saw them as models and guidance. People were consciously distinguishing themselves from the medieval thoughts and using history to make something new for their own era. In the field of political philosophy there s no exception. Niccolo Machiavelli is perhaps the most representative and groundbreaking figure of this trend in political philosophy. With his erudition in ancient literature, histories and political thoughts, Machiavelli draws various sources from antiquity to critic and response to the political environment of histime. While one may find seemingly discrepancies in The Prince and The Discourse on the First Ten Books of Tius Livy, the use of histories as guide to demonstrate or propose ideal rules is apparent in both works. We should note that synthesizing ancient philosophy or thoughts with contemporary thoughts is nothing new. Thomas Aquinas, for example, reconciled Aristotelianism and Christianity in his work Summa Theologica, using ancient antiquity to back up his Christian beliefs. Many parents have a bad perspective towards video games, they consider it as a devil that corrupts mind and engages their child into non productive, virtual, and harmful environment. This kind of attitude and behavior from the parent might not only effect their relationship with their child, but also deprive the child from some advantages of playing video games that enhance brain power. After Mary had sided with Abigail and the other girls, she accused John of personifying . . . the devil s man (524), meaning a wizard. Previously, Abigail and John Proctor were involved, a relationship in which Mary knew of. By accusing John of wizardry, Mary hurt the only person in Salem Abigail had strong, positive feelings towards, likely knowing the consequences of her accusation. Her rare blood disorder leaves Penny at the mercy of bruises, appearing because of anything from a too tight hug to a sharp corner. While the world is deemed too dangerous for her by her parents, Penelope still dreams of going to New York City. After years of waiting, Penelope finally attains what she wants just not the way she wants it. When tragedy strikes the Landlow family, Penny has no choice but to flee to New York. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The funeral industry is changing from product based to experience based, and from burial to cremations (National Funeral Directors Association [NFDA], 2015; Koop Kemp, 2007; Wolfelt, 2004). Traditional funeral homes started off as having funerals in the deceased homes, then creating buildings that have a home like interiors. The generation at the time was all about the price of the required products; like the price of the casket, what was the casket made of, wood or metal, what was the best price for the burial lots (Steven Kemp, 2007). The industry was previously mostly a product driven industry but, as the industry is changing the funeral service must focus on being customer and experience driven (Wolfelt, 2004). The baby boomer generation is coming, they are sceptical of traditional funerals but want some sort of service and want more information about the entire funeral process and more ideas for personalizing the service (Wolfelt, 2004). Through the generation difference and the changing market that allows for more of an experience customizable space that depends on tradition, customs and beliefs of the customer (Wolfelt, 2004; Parkes Laungani Young, 2003). The baby boomers are more likely to choose cremation for body disposition (Wolfelt, 2004; NFDA, 2015) which provides a market change within the industry. The business of the past is not, and cannot be, the business of the future. But there is a future in funeral service (Wolfelt, 2004). Today s funeral director must consciously work to create a package of experience to offer families in conjunction with or even instead of the product (Wolfelt, 2004). As we look to the past, women fought for the right to be treated the same as men and fundamentally to have the same rights as men. Prior to the turn of the century, women had little to no rights. World War Iand II gave way to change, allowing women to work and eventually allowing them to vote. The feminist movement has made drastic progress since the war. Today women are seen as equal and have the right not only to vote, but to be educated. In 1977 the Canadian Human Rights Act ensured that women could no longer be discriminated based on their sex, race, religion or sexuality. The act specified that there must be equal pay for ... Our brains operate on conscious, subconscious and unconscious levels, and I believe there is a strong link between our subconscious minds and our dreams. Perhaps the information we store in our subconscious minds during waking hours manifest into these hallucinatory pictures while we sleep. The part of our brain which operates on a conscious level is significantly diminished when we are asleep, which gives the subconscious part of our brain more energy to process what it s learned or stored. When the lights go out, Subconscious Brain raises the curtain and puts on a weird show while Conscious Brain sits quietly in the audience. Subconscious Brain is like, Finally! The prefrontal cortex shows low activity during REM sleep, which is responsible for logical reasoning and self control. During dreams, the brain allows the controlling side of the brain to give way to the more primitive, less rational way of thinking, which is better known as the Activation Synthesis Model of dreaming. The brain synthesizes and interprets this internal activity and attempts to find meaning in these signals, which results in dreaming. In the French society, the rich wanted to stay rich and not pay taxes or accept other responsibilities. The poor demanded change. The difference of opinions created a lot of conflicts because each group had strong opinions on how the country should run. During the immediate period prior to and during the French Revolution, the demands and interests of different groups caused social conflict. For example the Third Estate demanded better voting procedures in order to address the inequality between the Estates. Deficit spending was used selfishly by the First and Second Estate and The King was indifferent to the hunger and poverty of the Third Estate (see right). It was clear that the wealth of the First and Second Estate took advantage of the Third Estate, even though the bourgeoisie had about eighty percent of the French population and wanted human rights. When it came to The French government each of the three Estates would turn into a single chamber legislature that would reform France in its own way (566 Spielvogel). Even though the Third Estate had substantially more people, their vote was treated the same as the First and Second Estates vote. • 36. The Power Of Money In The Great Gatsby The Power of Pennies Money is a power that comes with a price. In the 1920 s during the great depression, money was a huge issue, because of all the people losing their jobs. This caused people to do whatever they can to get it. In The Great Gatsby the characters suffer from a similar problem: They all want money, but not all of them have it. They then do whatever they have to do to climb to the top of the social ladder. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald shows the motif money is power through the characters Daisy, Myrtle, and Gatsby. Daisy would suffer through any pain as long as she got to be rich. Gatsby conveys Daisy s lust for money when he says, Her voice is full of money (Fitzgerald 120). Daisy wants money more than anything else; even to the point that it shows in her voice and actions. Everything she does is meticulously planned around keeping her social status and access to money alive but not around her own happiness. She is even referred to as The king s daughter and The golden girl further showing her desire for money(Fitzgerald 120). Daisy perfectly shows how money can take controlof life as it did to hers. Without her desire for money, Daisy would not have done most of the things she ended up doing in The Great Gatsby. Daisy will be shaped forever by the crude force of Tom s money (Jr. Leland S). Public Residential Treatment Facilities For Youth Policy Brief Abstract Over the last decade, there has been a rapid increase in the number of private residential treatment facilities for youth in the United States. These private residential treatment facilities are often referred to as specialty programs and include the following: emotional growth schools; therapeutic boarding schools; outdoor therapeutic programs; behavior modification schools; wilderness experience programs; and boot camps. There are no federal regulations regarding the operation of these programs and few states have regulations in place either. The majority of the programs are neither accredited nor licensed. A number of reports have surfaced with claims of abuse, neglect, maltreatment, and even deaths occurring in these unregulated facilities. After a decade of such reports the troubled teen industry has come under scrutiny. A solution is needed to protect the youth that are required to participate in such programs. • 44. The Role Of Oxidative Stress On A Free Radicals The role of oxidative stress is the imbalance of detoxified free radicals. When the body fails to detoxify free radicals, the free radicals take an electron from another molecule. As a result, the molecule is no longer stable. An unstable molecule can lead to damage within the cell and cause the cell to function improperly. Therefore, preventing oxidative stress is very important for the cell to maintain its proper function. If the cell does not function properly, an increase in antioxidants can help to repair the cell. Antioxidants are produced by the cell but increasing antioxidants for example in ones diet can reduce the amount of free radicals in the body that cause harm and as a result lead to oxidative stress in the body. Oxidative stress is an imbalance between the manifestation of reactive oxygen species and the bodies ability to detoxify the reactive intermediates, the free radicals, or to repair the damage resulting from the free radicals. Free radicals are uncharged molecules that have unpaired electrons. Free radicals floating in the cell are dangerous because free radical will take and or steal electrons from other molecules in the cell. When a molecule does not have the correct amount of electrons that specific molecule cannot function properly. When one molecule does not function correctly is can cause other cells to function improperly and cause damage to the cell and other parts. Free radicals in the body can interacts with different cell components such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Examples Of Damsel In Distress Sonia PiД…tek CHAPTER I: TYPES OF REPRESENTATION OF WOMEN IN VIDEO GAMES 1.1. Damsel in distress One of the most widely used clichГ©s in video games is Damsel in distress. The word comes from French demoiselle, which means young lady . Demoiselle en detresse translates into damsel in distress . As a trope the damsel in distress is a plot device in which a female character is placed in a perilous situation from which she cannot escape on her own and must be rescued by a male character, usually providing a core incentive or motivation for the protagonist s quest. First known example of the Damsel in distress can be seen in the myth about Perseus and his wife Andromeda, who is chained naked to a rock by the sea as a sacrifice, and is then ... The protagonist Booker DeWitt, is sent there to find a young lady called Elizabeth, who has been held captive by her father Zachary Comstock in a tower for most of her life. The scenario sounds to be the classic example of Damsel in distress, but when Booker reaches the tower, he realizes that she is not so gentle, helpless and defenseless as he thinks. She is unlike any character that I have seen in a game, especially when you play through the entire thing and you see how she evolves. DeWitt manages to rescue Elizabeth and they both get involved in the city s conflict, during which she shows her strange, but strong superpowers. Her character is well rounded. Her backstory is interesting and complex. Her flaws and the way she expresses emotions makes her more real and human. She s resourceful and quick witted, with the ability to break codes and pick locks like they re nothing (being locked in a tower with nothing but books means she s got a lot of hobbies). Elizabeth has no experience with shooting and fighting, but she effectively helps Booker. She looks for ammunition and health kits and provides them to the main character. Her participation plays a vital role during battles. Elizabeth even saves Booker life few times. That time Elizabeth gave him CRP on the beach when he almost drowned, or that time she caught him with a blimp to save him from falling off the city, or that time she gave herself up to Songbird to save his life. Elizabeth is essential to succeed. There is also no sexual undertone in her relationship with Booker. Creative director of Irrational Games, said that In terms of her body type, I think certainly people on the Internet have spent way more time thinking about Elizabeth s chest than I have, he said. It s something I ve barely thought about. Levine said it becomes disappointing for him when Elizabeth s measurements become the topic of conversation, because this was ... • 47. Political Identity In Persepolis Are clothing, fashion, and lifestyle choices an effective way to make a political statement? Can individuals express themselves without being constrained? This is an effective way and it is shown in many ways. In the novel, Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, Marji does not wear her veil because she is less of a person and it is a constant reminder of women oppression. In Politicsof the Hoodie, the hoodie extinguishes individuality in this politicized life. In my eyes, this tactic is very potent because in this society today, it is not easy to reside in. This is one of the ways that citizens can express themselves instead of retorting to violence, especially teenagers today. Despite the negative aspects that are created by the individuals on this earth, clothing, fashion, and lifestyle decisions can make a compelling ideological statement. In the novel Persepolis, the use of clothing, fashion, and lifestyle choices are used to make a political assertion. During the Iranian Revolution, women were forced to wear the veil, but Marji disagreed with this. In the text it states, Guns may shoot and knives may carve but we won t wear your silly scarves! (76). This shows that the veil was a way women became involved in politics because it represented their attitude towards the veil and how it should become an option. This was also a way that women showed their rebellion towards the veil. Marji is approached by a female guardian of the revolution and she insults her choice of clothing. In the text it states, Why are you wearing those punk shoes? Aren t you ashamed to wear tight jeans like those? (133). This shows that Marji s decision to wear her western style culture clothing to make a political statement was effective. All of those items were forbidden it can be seen as an act of rebellion. Lastly, when Marji received her Kim Wilde Poster, she loved it and hung it up in her room even though it was not allowed. In the text it states It is so far out... I put my posters up in my room! (181). This shows that even though posters conflicted with Iran s Islamic laws, this was Marji s way of rebelling against the regime. Day by day society is regulated and it limits expression that can be used to show individuality. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Attack of the Cloning Regulations Essay Attack of the Cloning Regulations Better and new technologies and ideas are constantly introduced through the passage of time, most of which are just for the convenience of modern life. There is usually not much of an objection when they are introduced into society because the pros of the idea greatly outweigh the cons; however, this is not the case with the discovery that human cloning is now practically possible. When a breakthrough like cloning comes about regulations must be set forth to insure the safety of all those who would use it. On one side there are people who want strong restrictions on cloning. The main point presented is that cloning is unsafe and should not be performed under any circumstances. The editorial is divided into several parts covering the topics of why cloning should not be done, what the public thinks about cloning, and what politicians are doing about it. Beginning the editorial with a comparison of cloning scientists to Jack Kevorkian is a very powerful use of pathos. It creates in the mind of the reader the image that both cloning scientists and Jack Kevorkian are evil. There are many people opposed to Dr. Kevorkian and with those who would clone being made into the equivalent of the doctor then those same people should logically be opposed to cloning. Next, the editorial starts to talk about the problems with cloning. The first problem stated is that cloning is unsafe. It s a serious illness that can take a terrible toll on individuals and families says the Mayo Clinic Health Center. In reality the effect of antidepressants is not that much, but it bases on the certain person and their lifestyle such as sleeping habits, mood, etc. However many have benefited from antidepressants and lives have changed for the better. Yet some have had no effects. Therefore, antidepressants should not be prescribed for children diagnosed with depression. Medication can relieve symptoms in most people with depression, and it s become the first line of treatment for most types of the disorder. (par. 41 ). And the extra benefit of antidepressants was even less than we saw when we analyzed only published studies. Scientists say in the article The Depressing News About Antidepressants. (par. 8). One reason why antidepressants should not be prescribed is that people could get used to taking those specific drugs, decreasing their effectiveness and increasing the likelihood of reliance or addiction. If the overmedication continued, patients might eventually take too much of their medication, leading to an overdose. Many people experience side effects from taking medication that they are prescribed for mental illnesses.
